Abstract
BACKGROUND acute radiation dermatitis (ARD) is the most widely reported radiotherapy-induced adverse event. Currently, there is no objective or reliable method to measure ARD. OBJECTIVE our main objective was to identify and quantify the effects of radiotherapy with a computational model using optical coherence tomography (OCT) skin scanning. Secondary objectives included determining the ARD impact of different radiotherapeutic schemes and adjuvant topical therapies. METHODS we conducted a prospective, single-center case series study in a tertiary referral center of patients with breast cancer who were eligible for whole breast radiotherapy (WBRT). RESULTS a total of 39 women were included and distributed according to the radiotherapeutic schemes (15, 20, and 25 fractions). A computational model was designed to quantitatively analyze OCT findings. After radiotherapy, OCT scanning was more sensitive revealing vascularization changes in 84.6% of the patients (vs 69.2% of the patients with ARD by clinical examination). OCT quantified an increased vascularization at the end of WBRT (P < .05) and a decrease after 3 months (P = .032). Erythematous skin changes by OCT were more pronounced in the 25-fraction regime. CONCLUSION an OCT computational model allowed for the identification and quantification of vascularization changes on irradiated skin, even in the absence of clinical ARD. This may allow the design of standardized protocols for ARD beyond the skin color of the patients involved.

Abstract
PURPOSE Compartment syndrome is a surgical emergency that can occur in any part of the body and can cause cell necrosis when maintained over time. The resulting defects can affect the nerves, muscle cells, bone tissue, and other connective tissues inside the compartment, and fasciotomy has to be performed. The anatomical and histological characteristics of the leg make acute, chronic, and exertional compartment syndrome more likely in this limb. For these reasons, knowledge of the ultrasound, anatomical, and histological features of the crural fascia can help in the treatment of leg compartment syndrome. METHODS Twenty-one cryopreserved lower limbs from adult cadavers and from one 29-week-old fetus were obtained from the dissection room. They were examined by ultrasound and a subsequent anatomical dissection and microscopy to study the crural fascia and its relationship with the different muscles. Anthropometric measurements were taken of the distances from the head of the fibula and lateral malleolus to the origin of the tibialis anterior muscle in the crural fascia, the exit of the superficial fibular nerve, and the fascia covering the deep posterior muscles of the leg. RESULTS The crural fascia has very important clinical relationships, which can be identified by ultrasound, as the origin of the tibialis anterior muscle at 16.25 cm from the head of the fibula and the exit of the superficial fibular nerve that crosses this fascia at 21.25 cm from the head of the fibula. Furthermore, the presence of a septum that fixes the deep posterior muscles of the leg and the vessels and nerve can be seen by ultrasound and can explain the possible development of a posterior compartmental syndrome of the leg. Awareness of these features will help to keep these structures safe during the surgical treatment of compartment syndrome. CONCLUSION The ultrasound study allows identification of anatomical structures in the leg and, thus, avoids damage to them during surgery for compartmental syndromes.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Molecular skin profiling techniques, typically performed on skin samples taken by punch biopsy, have enhanced the understanding of the pathophysiology of atopic dermatitis (AD), thereby enabling the development of novel targeted therapeutics. However, punch biopsies are not always feasible or desirable, and novel minimally invasive methods such as skin tape stripping have been developed. AIM To develop, optimize and validate a novel tape stripping method guided by noninvasive in vivo skin imaging to sample atopic skin in children. METHODS Skin tape stripping-based procedures were compared and optimized using data from 30 healthy controls (HCs: 5 adults, 25 children) and 39 atopic children. Evaluations were guided by high-resolution photography, reflectance confocal microscopy, optical coherence tomography and transepidermal water loss measurements. We assessed and compared adverse events (AEs), the time needed to perform the sampling and the cDNA levels obtained from the tapes. RESULTS Tape stripping methods based on previously described protocols resulted in erosions in all participants and required a median time of 65 min to perform (range 60-70 min), but provided good cDNA yield. Shorter durations appeared less invasive but provided lower cDNA yield. The final optimized tape stripping protocol, using 11 tapes of 22 mm in diameter, each applied twice for 5 s with 90° rotation, did not produce significant AEs, was completed within a median time of 7 min (range 5-15 min) and provided good cDNA yield both in HCs and atopic children. CONCLUSION Our minimally invasive method is safe and reliable, and provides reproducible acquisition of cDNA in atopic children. In addition, it enables rapid sample collection, a crucial factor in clinical practice.

Abstract
Human Papillomavirus (HPV) type 16 is the main etiological agent of cervical cancer worldwide. Mutations within the virus genome may lead to an increased risk of cancer development and decreased vaccine response, but there is a lack of information about strains circulating in Sub-Saharan Africa. Endocervical cytology samples were collected from 480 women attending a voluntary cervical cancer screening program at Monkole Hospital and four outpatient centers in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). The prevalence of HPV infection was 18.8% and the most prevalent high-risk types were HPV16 (12.2%) followed by HPV52 (8.8%) and HPV33/HPV35 (7.8% each). HPV16 strains were characterized: 57.1% were classified as C lineage; two samples (28.6%) as A1 and one sample belonged to B1 lineage. HPV33, HPV35, HPV16, and HPV58 were the most frequent types associated with low-grade intraepithelial lesion while high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesions were predominantly associated with HPV16. Several L1 mutations (T266A, S282P, T353P, and N181T) were common in Kinshasa, and their potential effect on vaccine-induced neutralization, especially the presence of S282P, should be further investigated. Long control region (LCR) variability was high with frequent mutations like G7193T, G7521A, and G145T that could promote malignancy of these HPV16 strains. This study provides a helpful basis for understanding HPV16 variants circulating in Kinshasa and the potential association between mutations of LCR region and malignancy and of L1 and vaccine activity.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Most pituitary adenomas (PAs) are considered to have a soft tumor consistency. However, there is a non-negligible percentage (5-13%) of tumors presenting or exhibiting a fibrous consistency that would entail a more difficult and complicated surgical excision with higher surgical morbidity and mortality rates. PURPOSE To analyze the clinical consequences of PA tumor consistency on the surgical outcomes in patients undergoing endonasal endoscopic transsphenoidal (EET) pituitary surgery. METHODS An ambispective study of patients with PAs operated on through an EET approach in two Spanish tertiary hospitals over the last 12 years. A total of 226 consecutive interventions were carried out in the Neurosurgery Departments of the Hospital Universitario Ramón y Cajal (HURC) and the Hospital Universitario Puerta del Sur by the same neurosurgeon. PAs were grouped into soft (n = 150) and fibrous (n = 76). All patients underwent hormonal and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) studies before and after surgery. In addition, neurosurgical complications were recorded in each patient. RESULTS Fibrous adenomas were independently associated with lower resection rates compared to soft adenomas (fibrous gross total resection [GTR] rate 48.7% vs. 76.3%, p < 0.001), even in those adenomas without invasion of the cavernous sinus (Knosp grades 0, I, and II). There were more intraoperative cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leaks in patients with fibrous PAs. Moreover, fibrous PAs showed higher rates of postoperative hypopituitarism, permanent diabetes insipidus (DI) and postoperative treatments (hormonal treatment and radiotherapy). The excision of a fibrous PA required a longer surgical time (22.5 min more than soft PAs, p = 0.014), regardless of other factors. CONCLUSION The consistency of the PAs significantly conditions both the results of surgery (lower resections rates), complications (higher incidence of postoperative hypopituitarism, permanent DI), and the prognosis (higher incidence of postoperative treatments) of the patient undergoing EET.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Reducing cardiovascular risk through lifestyle changes that include a heart-healthy diet and regular exercise is recommended in the rehabilitation of patients with coronary artery disease (CAD). We pilot-tested the effectiveness of a dietary-education and high-intensity interval resistance training (DE-HIIRT) program on healthy food choices and associated anthropometric variables in patients with established CAD. METHODS A total of 22 participants, aged 60.0 ± 7.2 years, were enrolled in the study. Over 3 months, under the guidance and supervision of a physiotherapist, participants performed the resistance exercises 2×/week in a group setting (cohort of 11). Participants additionally attended three sessions of dietary education led by a dietician. Participants demonstrated their knowledge and understanding of dietary education by picking heart-healthy foods by reading food labels. Outcomes included change in diet (measured using the tricipital skinfold thickness Mediterranean Diet Adherence questionnaire (MEDAS-14) and the Food Consumption Frequency Questionnaire (FCFQ)) and anthropometric measurements (body composition, body circumference, and tricipital skinfold thickness). A paired t-test was performed to analyze the differences between the baseline and post-intervention results. RESULTS Participants significantly increased their consumption of vegetables (p = 0.04) and lowered their consumption of sweet snacks (p = 0.007), pastries (p = 0.02), and processed food (p = 0.05). Significant improvements in body mass index (p = 0.001), waist circumference (p = 0.0001), hip circumference (p = 0.04), and body fat (p = 0.0001) were also achieved. CONCLUSION Making lifestyle changes that include both diet and exercise is essential in the management of CAD. The HIIRT program combined with dietary changes shows promise in achieving weight-loss goals in this population and needs to be further investigated with appropriate study designs.

Abstract
Novel species of fungi described in this study include those from various countries as follows: Australia, Agaricus albofoetidus, Agaricus aureoelephanti and Agaricus parviumbrus on soil, Fusarium ramsdenii from stem cankers of Araucaria cunninghamii, Keissleriella sporoboli from stem of Sporobolus natalensis, Leptosphaerulina queenslandica and Pestalotiopsis chiaroscuro from leaves of Sporobolus natalensis, Serendipita petricolae as endophyte from roots of Eriochilus petricola, Stagonospora tauntonensis from stem of Sporobolus natalensis, Teratosphaeria carnegiei from leaves of Eucalyptus grandis × E. camaldulensis and Wongia ficherai from roots of Eragrostis curvula. Canada, Lulworthia fundyensis from intertidal wood and Newbrunswickomyces abietophilus (incl. Newbrunswickomyces gen. nov.) on buds of Abies balsamea. Czech Republic, Geosmithia funiculosa from a bark beetle gallery on Ulmus minor and Neoherpotrichiella juglandicola (incl. Neoherpotrichiella gen. nov.) from wood of Juglans regia. France, Aspergillus rouenensis and Neoacrodontium gallica (incl. Neoacrodontium gen. nov.) from bore dust of Xestobium rufovillosum feeding on Quercus wood, Endoradiciella communis (incl. Abstract
Research on immunotherapeutic agents has become a focus for the treatment of fish diseases. The ability of algae to produce secondary metabolites of potential interest as immunotherapeutics has been documented. The present research intended to assess antiviral and antibacterial activities of macro- and microalgae extracts against viral and bacterial pathogens and explore their immunomodulatory potential using zebrafish (Danio rerio) larvae as a model organism. The cytotoxicity and antiviral activity of eight methanolic and ethanolic extracts from two macroalgae (Fucus vesiculosus, Ulva rigida) and two microalgae (Nannochloropsis gaditana, Chlorella sp.) were analyzed in established fish cell lines. Six extracts were selected to evaluate antibacterial activity by disk diffusion and growth inhibition assays. The three most promising extracts were characterized in terms of fatty acid composition, incorporated at 1% into a plant-based diet, and evaluated their effect on zebrafish immune response and intestinal morphology in a short-term feeding trial. All extracts exhibited in vitro antiviral activity against viral hemorrhagic septicemia and/or infectious pancreatic necrosis viruses. Methanolic extracts from F. vesiculosus and U. rigida were richer in saturated fatty acids and exhibited in vitro antibacterial action against several bacteria. Most promising results were obtained in vivo with F. vesiculosus methanol extract, which exerted an anti-inflammatory action when incorporated alone into diets and induced pro-inflammatory cytokine expression, when combined with the other extracts. Moreover, dietary inclusion of the extracts improved intestinal morphology. In summary, the results obtained in this study support the potential of algae as natural sources of bioactive compounds for the aquaculture industry.

Introduction. Dietary and exercise interventions are effective strategies for improving physical and nutritional status of patients with coronary artery disease (CAD). However, few studies have applied a combined exercise protocol based on high intensity interval training (HIIT) and dietary education in patients with CAD with percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI).
Purpose
This study researches the effectiveness of a multidisciplinary program based in HIIT with dietary education (DEHIIT) in comparison with only HIIT, on adherence to Mediterranean diet in CAD patients with PCI.
Methods. A prospective, assessor-blinded, parallel group, randomized trial was developed. The study was developed at a University research lab. Forty-four adults diagnosed with CAD (between 40 and 72 years), were randomized to receive either combined dietary intervention and HIIT (DEHIIT, n = 22) or only HIIT (HIIT, n = 22). The adherence to the Mediterranean diet was assessed with a 14-item tool of adherence to the Mediterranean diet (MEDAS-14) at baseline and after the intervention. DEHIIT performed a 3-month dietary intervention program combined with 24 HIIT sessions at 85-95% of peak heart rate, whilst HIIT performed a 3-month HIIT sessions at 85-95% of peak heart rate. This study did not receive any funding. No conflict of interest is declared.
Results. After three months, regarding to MEDAS-14, DEHIIT increased the fish/seafood consumption significantly (p = 0.001) and decreased the fruit consumption (p = 0.032) and dry fruits (p = 0.006). And, when comparing between groups, DEHIIT obtained significantly more MEDAS-14 score (p = 0.01) and more adherence to dieta mediterránea (p = 0.001). No adverse events were reported.
Conclusions. A combined protocol including dietary intervention and HIIT can bring benefits for CAD patients with PCI on adherence to Mediterranean diet in comparison to only HIIT. Consequently, our combined program could be used as a treatment option in the therapeutic approach for these patients.

Introduction. The interventions on eating habits and exercise in physiotherapy programs are usually recommended in coronary artery disease (CAD), since they are beneficial to improve physical and nutritional status of patient. Despite this, scarce studies are focused on combined protocols based on high intensity interval training (HIIT) and dietary education in CAD patients with percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI).
Purpose
The main goal of this study was to compare the effectiveness of a multidisciplinary program based in HIIT, with a program based in dietary education and HIIT (DEHIIT), on eating habits in CAD patients with PCI.
Methods. A prospective, randomized controlled trial with blinded outcome assessment was developed. The study was developed at a University research laboratory. 44 participants diagnosed with CAD, aged between 40 and 72 years, were randomly allocated to two treatment groups: HIIT group (HIITG, n = 22) and dietary intervention and HIIT group (DEHIITG, n = 22). The assessment consisted of applying a Food Frequency Questionnaires (FFQ) at baseline and post-intervention. DEHIITG performed a 3-month dietary intervention program combined with 24 HIIT sessions at 85-95% of peak heart rate, whilst HIITG performed a 3-month HIIT sessions at 85-95% of peak heart rate. This study did not receive any funding. No conflict of interest is declared.
Results. At the end of the program, when comparing between groups, statistically significant changes were noted. DEHIITG consumed more olive oil (p = 0.021), chicken or turkey (p = 0.039), stir-fried with vegetables (p = 0.033), vegetables (p = 0.003), fish and seafood (p = 0.039), and quantity of commercial juices (p = 0.042), sweets and snacks (p = 0.033). HIITG showed more improvements than DEHIITG in soups and creams consumption (p = 0.042). No adverse events were reported.
Conclusions. A dietary intervention with HIIT protocol yields better benefits than only HIIT on eating habits in CAD patients with PCI. Thus, our combined program could be considered a suitable treatment option among these patients.

Introduction. On the one hand, physical training such as High intensity interval training (HIIT) and on the other, eating habits, it is often prescribed to patients with coronary artery disease (CAD). Nevertheless, the combination of HIIT and eating habits in CAD with percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) there is no consensus on using a combined protocol of both.
Purpose. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the impact of an HIIT program with eating habits, with a program based in HIIT, on anthropometric parameters in CAD patients with PCI.
Methods. A randomized controlled trial was carried out in a hospital. 44 patients with CAD and PCI were recruited. All participants signed an informed consent. Patients were randomly allocated to a HIIT group (HIIT, n = 22, 81.8% men, 62.05 ± 4.9 years) or to a Dietary education and HIIT (DEHIIT) group (n = 22, 81.8% men, 60.2 ± 5.6 years). HIIT consisted of a 3-month physiotherapy program, twice a week for one hour, at 85-95% peak heart rate. DEHIIT consisted of a multidisciplinary program, including the same HIIT program explained, plus eating habits. Body composition (weight, BMI, % body fat, % visceral fat, muscle mass) and waist circumference, hip circumference and Waste-to-Hip Ratio (WHR) were evaluated at baseline and at week 12.
Results. At the end of the program, DEHIIT significantly decreased all anthropometrics parameters except muscle mass. The following parameters decreased: weight (p ≤ 0.001), BMI (p ≤ 0.001), body fat (p ≤ 0.001), visceral fat (p ≤ 0.001), waist circumference (p ≤ 0.001), hip circumference (p = 0.043) and WHR (p ≤ 0.001). Instead, the muscle mass increased significantly (p ≤ 0.001). When comparing between groups, DEHIIT did not show significant differences weight (p = 0.575), BMI (p = 0.404), % body fat (p = 0.217), muscle mass (p = 0.508), waist circumference (p = 0.165), hip circumference (p = 0.307), WHR (p = 0.379), except for presenting less visceral fat (p = 0.040) than HIIT.
Conclusions
HIIT programme with eating habits reducing visceral fat in CAD patients with PCI compared to a HIIT-only program.

Abstract
The present study evaluates the removal capacity of microalgae photobioreactors of environmental pollutants present in wastewater from the dry riverbed El Albujón, as a way to minimize the eutrophication process of the Mar Menor. Particularly, the capacity of four autochthonous microalgae consortia collected from different locations of the salty lagoon to remove emerging contaminants (simazine, atrazine, terbuthylazine, adenosine and ibuprofen), nitrates, and phosphates, was evaluated. Among the four microalgae consortia, consortium 1 was the best in terms of biomass productivity (0.11 g L-1 d-1) and specific growth rate (0.14 d-1), providing 100% removal of emerging contaminants (simazine, atrazine, terbuthylazine, adenosine and ibuprofen), and a maximal reduction and consumption of macronutrients, especially nitrates and phosphates, reaching levels below 28 mg L-1, that is, a decrease of 89.90 and 99.70% of nitrates and phosphates, respectively. Therefore, this consortium (Monoraphidium sp., Desmodesmus subspicatus, Nannochloris sp.) could be selected as a green filter for successful large-scale applications. This study is the first one that combines the successful removal of herbicides, ibuprofen and adenosine as emerging contaminants, and nitrate removal.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To analyze the clinical and analytical features, diagnostic tests, therapies, and outcomes of pheochromocytoma (PCC). DESIGN AND METHODS A multicenter retrospective study in surgically treated patients with PCC followed in 3 Spanish tertiary referral hospitals. RESULTS A total of 106 patients (61 [57.5%] women, mean age 52.3 ± 14.8 years) were evaluated. At diagnosis, PCC was symptomatic in 62% and sporadic in 83%. Patients with familial PCC were significantly younger than those with sporadic disease (40.8 ± 14.2 years vs. 54.5 ± 13.9 years, p<.001). Familial PCCs were more frequently associated with MEN2A (n=8). Levels of 24-h urinary fractionated metanephrines were positively related to tumor size. The maximum tumor diameter was 4.3cm (3-6cm); 27.7% of the patients had tumors ≥6cm. Incidental PCCs were significantly smaller than symptomatic PCCs (3.4cm [2.4-5.0cm] vs. 5.6cm [4.0-7.0cm], p<.001). Scintigraphy by 123I-metaiodobenzylguanidine showed a high sensitivity (81.9%). Preoperative alpha blockade with phenoxybenzamine was used in 93.6% and doxazosin in the rest. Laparoscopic surgery was used in 2/3 of the patients, with a low conversion (1.9%) to open surgery. Perioperative complications appeared in approximately 20% of patients, mainly hypertensive crisis (9.4%). Recurrent disease appeared in 10%, and malignant PCC was uncommon (6.3%). CONCLUSIONS PCCs surgically treated in Spain are usually large, symptomatic, and sporadic tumors diagnosed around the sixth decade of life. Hereditary PCC is usually associated with MEN2A. The main type of surgical technique used is laparoscopic surgery, and the prevalence of metastatic PCC is low.

Abstract
This study aimed to evaluate the effects of including microalgae Chlorella sp. or Nannochloropsis sp. in plant-based diets on antioxidant mechanisms of European sea bass (Dicentrarchus labrax) juveniles. For this purpose, three isoproteic (50%) and isolipidic (19%) diets were formulated: a practical diet, containing 15% fish meal (FM) and plant ingredients as the protein source and a mixture of fish oil and vegetable oils (40: 60) as lipid source (control diet); and two diets identical to the control but with the FM replaced by Nannochloropsis sp. or Chlorella sp. (diets Nanno and Chlo, respectively). The diets were offered to quadruplicate groups of 25 fish (initial body weight: 24 ± 1 g) for 11 weeks and then enzymatic and non-enzymatic antioxidant mechanisms and lipid oxidative biomarkers were assessed in the liver and intestine of these fish. Results showed that the antioxidant response was tissue-dependent, with the liver exhibiting lower glutathione peroxidase and glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (only in Chlo group) activities, and intestine lower superoxide dismutase activity with the diets including microalgae compared to control diet. An increase of oxidized glutathione content was also observed in the intestine of fish fed the microalgae diets. Catalase and glutathione reductase activities, oxidative stress index, and total and reduced glutathione, were unaffected by dietary treatments in both tissues. Overall, the lipid peroxidation status was not compromised by the replacement of FM by microalgae.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To analyze the clinical and analytical features, diagnostic tests, therapies, and outcomes of pheochromocytoma (PCC). DESIGN AND METHODS A multicenter retrospective study in surgically treated patients with PCC followed in 3 Spanish tertiary referral hospitals. RESULTS A total of 106 patients (61 [57.5%] women, mean age 52.3 ± 14.8 years) were evaluated. At diagnosis, PCC was symptomatic in 62% and sporadic in 83%. Patients with familial PCC were significantly younger than those with sporadic disease (40.8 ± 14.2 years vs 54.5 ± 13.9 years, p < .001). Familial PCCs were more frequently associated with MEN2A (n = 8). Levels of 24-h urinary fractionated metanephrines were positively related to tumor size. The maximum tumor diameter was 4.3 cm (3-6 cm); 27.7% of the patients had tumors ≥6 cm. Incidental PCCs were significantly smaller than symptomatic PCCs (3.4 cm [2.4-5.0 cm] vs 5.6 cm [4.0-7.0 cm], p < .001). Scintigraphy by ¹²³I-metaiodobenzylguanidine showed a high sensitivity (81.9%). Preoperative alpha blockade with phenoxybenzamine was used in 93.6% and doxazosin in the rest. Laparoscopic surgery was used in 2/3 of the patients, with a low conversion (1.9%) to open surgery. Perioperative complications appeared in approximately 20% of patients, mainly hypertensive crisis (9.4%). Recurrent disease appeared in 10%, and malignant PCC was uncommon (6.3%). CONCLUSIONS PCCs surgically treated in Spain are usually large, symptomatic, and sporadic tumors diagnosed around the sixth decade of life. Hereditary PCC is usually associated with MEN2A. The main type of surgical technique used is laparoscopic surgery, and the prevalence of metastatic PCC is low.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Treatment response for psoriasis is typically evaluated using clinical scores. However, patients can relapse after clinical clearance, suggesting persistent inflammation. Dermoscopy, reflectance confocal microscopy (RCM) and optical coherence tomography (OCT) can non-invasively improve treatment response assessment. OBJECTIVES To compare the clinical and non-invasive microscopic features in a psoriatic target lesion treated with clobetasol cream or calcipotriol/betamethasone dipropionate foam (Cal/BD foam). METHODS Prospective, unicentric, open, randomized clinical trial comparing clinical data [total clinical score (TCS)] and microscopic data (dermoscopy, RCM and OCT) in psoriasis patients treated with clobetasol or Cal/BD foam. RESULTS We included 36 adult patients (22 men). At week 4, more patients treated with Cal/BD foam achieved TCS ≤1 than with clobetasol (63.2% vs. 18.8%, P = 0.016). Treatment satisfaction was higher with Cal/BD foam (P < 0.03). Microscopically, Cal/BD foam induced more reduction in epidermal thickness at week 4 (P < 0.049). Dilated horizontal blood vessels were more common with clobetasol than with Cal/BD foam at week 8 (69.2% vs. 31.2%, P = 0.159). If epidermal hyperplasia was noted at baseline, the response was poorer with clobetasol (P = 0.029). LIMITATIONS Small sample size, open study, imaging sampling bias. CONCLUSION Cal/BD foam is more effective than clobetasol, has better patient satisfaction and induces greater reduction in the hyperkeratosis/acanthosis, regardless of baseline epidermal hyperplasia.

Abstract
Introduction:Bipolar patients show a significant degree of psychosocial disfunction even in euthymia. Recent studies have reported deficits in Theory of Mind and emotion recognition in BD. Our hypothesis is that social cognition deficit could be associated with a poor general functioning and psychosocial disadvantage in BD.Methods:A sample of 27 euthymic bipolar patients were recluted. Based on Global Assessment of Functioning, they were divided into two groups: good or low general functioning. Euthymia was defined as YMRS < 6 and HDRS < 8, during a 3-month period. Patients with high (n 18) and low (n 9) functioning were compared on several clinical variables and on social / general cognitive measures. Both verbal and non verbal Theory of Mind capacities were assesed (faux pas test and face emotion recognition test). Finally, sustained attention and executive functions were evaluated (Asarnow Test and WSCT).Results:High- and low-functioning groups did not differ with respect to demographic and clinical variables (age, sex, age at onset, years of evolution of illness, history of prior psychotic symptoms; p = n.s.). However, low-functioning group showed poorer performance than high-functioning group both in faux pas test (U Mann Whitney; p=0.035) and face emotion recognition (U; p = 0.021). In addition, low-functioning group also showed a significant impairment in general cognitive funtions such as sustained attention (U, p = 0.007) and executive funtions (U, p = 0.046).Conclusion:Social cognition deficit is associated with a poorer general functioning and psychosocial disadvantage.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Pituicytomas (PTs) are extremely rare, low-grade glial tumors closely related to the neurohypophyseal axis. Definite conclusions concerning the optimal diagnostic and therapeutic approach to these neoplasms are lacking to date, as most of this information has been presented as case reports. METHODS Retrospective review of case reports published in the scientific literature to date, including a new illustrative example treated in our department. RESULTS 116 cases were collected. PTs had a higher prevalence in the fifth and sixth decades of life, with a slight male predominance. Main symptoms, which tended to be progressive, included visual field defects and pituitary-hypothalamic dysfunction. Radiologically, PTs were found anywhere along the hypothalamic-pituitary axis mimicking other, more frequent tumors growing in this anatomical region. Surgical treatment included both transcranial or transsphenoidal approaches, and resulted in gross total resection and morbidity rates of 46.8 and 59%, respectively; the latter essentially consisted in anterior and posterior pituitary dysfunction, with limited impact on daily quality of life. CONCLUSIONS Due to both low frequency and the absence of pathognomonic clinical and/or radiological features, formulating a suspicion diagnosis of PT represents a considerable challenge even for experienced professionals. The indication for treatment should be made on an individual basis, but it is inescapable in the presence of a visual field defect. The surgical approach has to be tailored according to the topography of the tumor and preoperative symptoms; the greatest challenges in accomplishing a gross total removal are represented by the degree of adherence and vascularization of the PT.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Binge drinking is widespread in medical students but is poorly studied in France. The aim was to evaluate the number of binge drinking episodes and to better characterize them among a sample of French medical students. METHODS We carried out a cross-sectional study at Paris VII's Faculty of Medicine. Through a brief self-questionnaire we focused on the prevalence rate of binge drinking in the past two weeks and examined the associations between hazardous drinking and the number of drinks consumed, demographic data (gender, age, familial status and student fraternity membership), clinical aspects (context, intended effects and adverse consequences), tobacco or illegal substances use, and eventual relationship with alcohol or tobacco use disorders. RESULTS Among 302 medical students, 74.8% of them experienced at least one binge-drinking episode in the last two weeks. There was no significant difference in demographic data. However, the association between binge drinking and to living alone was borderline significant (P=0.051). Students experienced on mean 2.4 (SD, 1.6) episodes in the last two weeks and their mean maximum number of drinks was equal to 10.3 (SD, 4.6). We observed a significant association between the number binge drinking episodes and the mean maximum consumption of alcohol drinks (P=0.004). The maximum quantity of alcohol drinks was significantly higher (P<0.001) in students who experienced two binge-drinking episodes (mean=11.23, SD=4.56), compared to those who experienced only one episode (mean=9.04, SD=3.96). Binge drinkers were more likely to consume alcohol at a party than at a friendly drink (P=0.029) and more frequently sought drunkenness (P<0.001) and to escape from daily concerns (P=0.004). They experienced more negative events like black-outs (P<0.001), aggressive behaviors (P=0.002), drunk driving (P=0.025), unsafe sexual relationships (P=0.010) and need of emergency responders (P=0.047). Binge drinkers were more likely to simultaneously consume tobacco (P<0.001) or illegal substances (P<0.001), and presented more alcohol use disorder (P<0.001) and tobacco-dependence (P=0.007). CONCLUSIONS This first French study in 302 medical students has highlighted the extent of binge drinking in this specific population. The threshold of two binge-drinking episodes in two weeks may be useful to identify a distinctive pattern of consumption and set up adequate prevention actions. Finally binge drinking seemed to be close to an addictive process. Our findings support the need to develop targeted prevention programs in French medical students, which could be designed around several interventions in campuses and student parties. Cohort studies could be necessary to provide an epidemiological follow-up of the French medical student population, particularly about the risk of alcohol use disorder.

Abstract
Our aim was to assess short-term natural course of hypogonadism diagnosed during hospitalization for acute disease in aged male patients after discharge. A group of 43 hypogonadal males, aged 86.7±5.7 year, was studied. Serum concentrations of testosterone (T) and gonadotropins (follicle-stimulating hormone, FSH, and luteinizing hormone, LH) were measured in every patient both at admission and one month after discharge. Mean serum T at entry was 115.4±48.0 ng/dl. Hypogonadism was hyper-, hypo-, and normogonadotropic in 20 (46.5%), 20 (46.5%), and 3 (7.0%) patients, respectively. One month after discharge serum T concentrations increased significantly (230.9±135.6 ng/dl, p<0.001). At this point, more than half of the patients (n=27, 62.8%) showed normal serum T concentrations. Both gonadotropins, FSH (p<0.001), and LH (p=0.04) also increased one month after discharge. Approximately, half of the patients (13, 48.1%) who normalized serum T concentrations also showed normal serum gonadotropin concentrations. Patients who normalized their serum T concentrations one month after discharge showed significantly higher baseline values of T (134.7±33.9 ng/dl) than those who persisted with hypogonadism (n=16, 32.7%; 82.8±51.6 ng/dl, p<0.001). Lastly, serum T was the only independent predictor for achieving eugonadal status (OR 1.030; CI 95%, 1.010-1.050; p<0.001). In conclusion, about 63% of aged patients hospitalized for acute illness with hypogonadism discovered during hospitalization spontaneously normalize their serum T concentrations one month after discharge. Serum gonadotropin concentrations also increased after discharge. Serum T levels at admission was an independent predictor for the normalization of serum T concentrations.

Abstract
BACKGROUND A polymorphism (1359 G/A) of the CNR1 gene was reported as a common polymorphism in Caucasian populations and was related to cardiovascular risk factors. The present study aimed to investigate the allelic distribution of polymorphism (G1359A) of the CB1 receptor gene in a geographical area of Spain (Community of Castilla y Leon) and to evaluate the influence of this polymorphism on obesity anthropometric parameters and cardiovascular risk factors in the fasted state in obese patients. METHODS A population of 341 obese subjects was analysed. Tetrapolar electrical bioimpedance measurement, blood pressure measurement, a serial assessment of nutritional intake with 3 days of written food records and a biochemical analysis were all performed. RESULTS One hundred and seventy-seven patients (51.9%) had the genotype G1359G (wild-type group) and 164 (48.1%) patients were A carriers: G1359A (136 patients; 39.9%) or A1359A (28 patients; 8.2%) (mutant type group). The Health Area of Palencia had a lower frequency of wild-type genotype and G allelic frequency than all the other Health Areas. Segovia and Burgos Areas had a higher frequency of wild-type genotype and G allelic frequency than the other Health Areas. High-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol was higher in the mutant type group and blood tryglicerides were lower in the same group. CONCLUSIONS In conclusion, the novel finding of the present study is the association of the mutant type group G1359A and A1359A with a better lipid profile (triglycerides and HDL cholesterol) than the wild-type group. The frequencies of this polymorphism are different among Health Areas of Castilla y Leon (Spain).

Abstract
Preoperative use of levosimendan in cardiac surgery patients is one of the most attractive therapeutic alternatives in subjects with left or right ventricular dysfunction. Our review explores the pharmacological bases and clinical evidence for the use of levosimendan, with the intention of making a series of recommendations regarding its use in preoperative optimization prior to cardiac surgery. We carried out a survey of 102 Spanish anesthesiologists in order to shed light on the grey areas regarding the use of this drug prior to surgery. Our findings suggest that levosimendan is recommended for patients with severe left or right ventricular dysfunction, moderate left ventricular dysfunction in which Intra-aortic Balloon Counterpulsation (IABC) is necessary and severe pulmonary hypertension. Administration of levosimendan prior to surgical cardiac intervention without an initial bolus reduces the likelihood of complications.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Male hypogonadism is common in the elderly and has been associated with increased risk of mortality. Our objective has been to assess the prevalence of primary and central hypogonadism in elderly male patients admitted to the hospital because of acute illness. We also evaluated the relationships between gonadal dysfunction and in-hospital mortality. PATIENTS AND METHODS 150 patients, aged ≥65 years, admitted during 2010 and 2011 in our geriatric unit, were studied. Serum concentrations total, bioavailable and free testosterone, as well as of follicle-stimulating hormone and luteinizing hormone were quantified in every patient. Hypogonadism was defined by the presence of serum testosterone levels lower than 200 ng/dl. RESULTS Hypogonadism was found in 80 patients (53.3 %). Serum gonadotropin concentrations were elevated in 43.7 % of these patients, whereas 41.3 % of hypogonadic patients showed normal and 15 % low gonadotropin concentrations. Respiratory tract infection and congestive heart failure were the main causes of hospitalization in hypogonadal men, whereas acute cerebrovascular disease was the main reason for admission in eugonadal patients. Of the 13 patients who died during hospitalization, 12 were hypogonadic. Patients who died showed significantly lower serum levels of total, free and bioavailable testosterone than those found in patients who survived. CONCLUSION Our results show that about half of patients admitted for acute illness have hypogonadism, mainly of non-hypergonadotropic type. Gonadal hypofunction is significantly related with in-hospital mortality. A low value of serum testosterone may be a predictor for mortality in elderly male patients.

Abstract
PURPOSE The benefits of intraoperative administration of halogenated agents in patients undergoing cardiac surgery have been shown by numerous studies. The mechanisms of preconditioning and postconditioning appear to be the cause of these benefits. The possibility of maintaining the early postoperative sedation with halogenated agents, after its intraoperative administration, can increase their benefits. PATIENTS AND METHODS This is a prospective trial with 60 patients undergoing coronary artery bypass graft surgery divided into 3 groups according to the administration of hypnotic drugs in the intraoperative and postoperative periods (sevoflurane, sevoflurane: SS, sevoflurane-propofol: SP, propofol-propofol: PP). For the first 48 hours, hemodynamic parameters, the need for inotropic drugs, N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide, and troponin I plasmatic concentrations were obtained. RESULTS There were significant differences between group SS and the other 2 groups in the levels of N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide (SS [501±280 pg/mL] compared with SP [1270±498 pg/mL] and PP [1775±527 pg/mL] [P<.05]) and troponin I (SS [0.5±0.4 ng/mL] compared with SP [1.61±1.30 ng/mL] and PP [2.27±1.5 ng/mL] [P<.05]) and a lower number of inotropic drugs. CONCLUSION Sevoflurane administration in patients undergoing off-pump coronary artery bypass graft, in the operating room and the intensive care unit, decreases myocardial injury markers compared with patients who only received sevoflurane in the intraoperative period, but both were a better option to decrease levels of myocardial markers when compared with the propofol group.

Abstract
Prolactinomas are the most common type of pituitary adenomas. Macroprolactinomas are the name used for these tumors when their size is ≥ 1 cm. These tumors commonly cause symptoms due to the excessive production of prolactin as well as complaints caused by tumor mass and compression of neural adjacent structures. Clinical diagnosis and assessment of macroprolactinoma are based on the measurement of serum prolactin concentrations and the morphological evaluation of the pituitary gland by magnetic resonance imaging. Dopamine agonists are the first-line treatment modality, with cabergoline being preferred to bromocriptine, because of its better tolerance and feasibility of administration. Cabergoline therapy has been reported to achieve normalization of prolactin levels and gonadal function and reduction of tumor volume in >50% of patients with macroprolactinoma. Resistance or intolerance to dopamine agonists are the main indications for transsphenoidal adenomectomy in patients with macroprolactinoma. External radiation therapy has been used in patients with poor response to medical and surgical procedures. Clinically significant tumor growth may occur during pregnancy in women with macroprolactinomas, especially if they have not received prior surgical or radiation therapy. Visual fields should be assessed periodically during pregnancy and therapy with dopamine agonists is indicated if symptomatic tumor growth occurs. Cystic and giant prolactinomas as well as the rare cases of malignant prolactinomas have special peculiarities and entail a therapeutic challenge.

Abstract
AIMS We aimed to assess the relative risk for hypothyroidism in patients with Type 2 diabetes. METHODS In this study, 1112 patients with Type 2 diabetes (58% women, mean age 66.7 years, median duration of diabetes 10 years, 179 with previous history of thyroid disease) and 911 subjects without diabetes were evaluated. RESULTS The gender-, age- and weight-adjusted relative risk (odds ratio) of newly identified hypothyroidism in patients with Type 2 diabetes in comparison with control subjects was 2.81 (1.77-4.48). This odds ratio was significant in patients over 65 years [4.02 (1.95-8.31)], as well as in both men [4.84 (1.58-14.80)] and women [2.60 (1.54-4.38)], in obese patients [2.56 (1.36-4.82)] and non-obese patients [3.11 (1.56-6.20)] and in individuals with [4.26 (1.73-10.46)] and without [2.93 (1.50-5.75)] thyroid autoantibodies. Logistic regression analysis showed that newly diagnosed hypothyroidism was significantly and directly related not only with thyroid autoimmunity [19.15 (8.73-42.01)], but also with the presence of macroangiopathy [2.85 (1.51-5.35)] and metformin treatment [2.51 (1.28-4.92)]. CONCLUSIONS Our results favour screening for hypothyroidism in patients with Type 2 diabetes older than 65 years, especially in the presence of diabetic macroangiopathy or treatment with metformin.

Abstract
AIMS To evaluate serum levels of osteocalcin (OC), procollagen type 1 N-terminal propeptide (P1PN) and beta-CrossLaps (beta-CTx) in obese subjects and their relationship with glucose metabolism parameters. SUBJECTS Sixty-four obese patients classified according to their glucose tolerance. DESIGN Case-control study. MEASUREMENTS A 75-g oral glucose tolerance test was performed with determinations of glucose and insulin between 0 and 120 min. Serum concentrations of OC, P1PN and beta-CTx were quantified in baseline samples. RESULTS Patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D, n = 24) exhibited OC serum levels (2·6 ± 1·0 nm) significantly lower than those found in subjects with normal glucose tolerance (NGT, n = 20, 3·9 ± 1·5 nm, P < 0·01). We found no significant differences in P1NP and beta-CTX levels among patients with NGT, prediabetes and T2D. Multiple regression analysis showed that serum OC concentration, but not P1NP or beta-CTx levels, was independently related to 2-h plasma glucose. CONCLUSION Obese patients with T2D showed significantly reduced levels of OC in comparison with patients with lower degrees of glucose tolerance derangement. Our results also suggest that OC was the only bone marker independently related to the degree of glucose metabolism derangement in these patients.

Abstract
BACKGROUND An association between prolactin-secreting pituitary adenomas and anaemia in male patients has been recently reported. Our aim has been to evaluate the prevalence of anaemia in men with prolactinomas and to assess the relationships between haemoglobin concentrations and pituitary function at diagnosis in these patients. METHODS In a retrospective analysis, 26 male patients with prolactinomas (22 macroprolactinomas and 4 microprolactinomas) were studied. Blood haemoglobin concentration, haematocrit value and baseline hormonal levels were collected at the time of prolactinoma diagnosis. The presence or absence of partial or total hypopituitarism was also evaluated at diagnosis. Logistic regression analysis was used to assess the presence of anaemia as a function of serum hormone concentrations and pituitary dysfunction. RESULTS Patient bearing macroprolactinomas showed significant lower haemoglobin concentrations than those found in patients with microprolactinomas (13.5 ± 1.2 g/dl vs. 15.1 ± 0.9 g/dl, p < 0.05). Anaemia (haemoglobin < 13 g/dl) was present in nine (34.6%) patients, all of them with macroprolactinomas. The degree of anaemia was mild (haemoglobin > 11 g/dl) in all patients. No correlation between haemoglobin and serum prolactin was found. Haemoglobin concentration was significantly lower in men with hypogonadism (n = 14) than in eugonadal men. Haemoglobin value was also significantly lower in patients with total hypopituitarism in comparison with patients with partial hypopituitarism (12.4 ± 1.0 g/dl, n = 7 vs. 14.0 ± 1.2 g/dl, n = 13, p = 0.007). The number of affected pituitary axes was found to be related with the presence of anaemia. Logistic regression analysis showed that anaemia was related with FT4 (OR 0.23; 95% CI 0.06-0.81, p = 0.02), cortisol (OR 0.81; 95% CI 0.68-0.96, p= 0.02) and the presence of hypopituitarism (OR 20.0; 95% CI 1.68-238.63, p = 0.02). CONCLUSIONS Anaemia was found in about a third of men with prolactinomas. Our results also suggest that the presence of anaemia in these patients seems to be associated with panhypopituitarism.

Abstract
AIM Assess the prevalence of thyroid dysfunction in patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D) in Segovia (Spain). METHODS A screening program for thyroid dysfunction including all patients with T2D attending the diabetes clinic at the Hospital General de Segovia was performed from 2003 to 2005. RESULTS 318 patients (191 women, aged 29-89 yr, median duration of diabetes 8 yr) attended the diabetes clinic. The number of patients with thyroid dysfunction and their respective prevalences were: overt hyperthyroidism, 11 (3.5%); subclinical hyperthyroidism, 10 (3.1%); overt hypothyroidism, 48 (15.1%), and subclinical hypothyroidism, 34 patients (10.7%). The screening program detected the following cases of newly diagnosed thyroid dysfunction: subclinical hyperthyroidism, 5 (1.6%); overt hypothyroidism, 6 (1.9%), and subclinical hypothyroidism, 20 patients (6.3%). Therefore, total thyroid dysfunction was present in 32.4% (95% CI, 27.3-37.5%), and newly diagnosed thyroid dysfunction was present 9.7% (95% CI, 6.5-13.0%) of the patients. Logistic regression analysis showed that there were no significant relationships between the presence of thyroid dysfunction and duration of diabetes, hemoglobin A1c levels, and the presence of diabetic complications. CONCLUSION This screening program detected new cases of thyroid dysfunction in ∼10% of diabetic subjects. However, we could not identify any diabetes-related clinical parameter with predictive value on the presence of thyroid dysfunction.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Admission hyperglycaemia has shown to be a marker of poor clinical outcome. The prevalence of admission hyperglycaemia and its relationship with in-hospital mortality in elderly population has not been clearly defined. We assessed the prevalence and prognostic significance of admission fasting hyperglycaemia in aged patients. METHODS A total of 808 elderly patients were studied. Patients were classified into group I (serum glucose < 126 mg/dl), II (126-180 mg/dl) and III (> 180 mg/dl). Groups II and III were considered newly recognised fasting hyperglycaemia (NRFH) in non-diabetic patients. RESULTS NRFH was present in 18.6%. After excluding diabetic patients (n = 206, 25.5%), the distribution of patients (n = 602, 74.5%) was as follows: group I (n = 452, 55.9%), group II (n = 122, 15.1%) and group III (n = 28, 3.5%). In the whole cohort, median fasting glucose was lower in patients who survived [105 mg/dl (88-135)] than in those who died [127 mg/dl (93-159), p < 0.001]. This significant difference was maintained only when non-diabetic patients were considered [100 mg/dl (87-122) vs. 118 mg/dl (92-149), p < 0.001]. In-hospital mortality rate in groups I, II and III was 8.5%, 14.1% and 22.9%, respectively (p < 0.001). Mortality rate was 8.4%, 18.0% and 32.1% (p < 0.001) in groups I, II and III, respectively in non-diabetic population. Both low albumin and high glucose serum concentrations were the only independent risk factors for in-hospital all-cause mortality in non-diabetic patients. CONCLUSIONS In non-diabetic elderly patients admitted for acute disease, serum glucose concentration is an important, simple and independent predictor of hospital mortality.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Several studies have reported that thyrotropin (TSH) levels are slightly increased in obese subjects. On the contrary, other studies have provided no evidence for an association between thyroid status and body mass index (BMI). AIM Our aim has been to evaluate the relationship between TSH and BMI in a group of subjects with obesity, overweight and normal weight with serum TSH levels within the reference range, excluding subjects with hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism. SUBJECTS AND METHODS We evaluated a cohort of 778 euthyroid subjects (488 women, mean age 58.5 ± 15.9 yr) with TSH values between 0.4 and 5.0 mU/l. There were 321 subjects with obesity (BMI ≥ 30 kg/m²), 319 with overweight (25-29.9 kg/m²) and 138 with normal weight (18.5-24.9 kg/m²). RESULTS Serum TSH levels significantly increased with weight category in studied subjects (normal weight, median [interquartile range], 1.24 [0.94-1.72]; overweight, 1.31 [1.00-1.93]; obesity, 1.66 [1.15-2.44] mU/l; P<0.001). Free thyroxine (T4) was not statistically different in subjects within the 3 weight categories. A significant correlation was found between TSH and BMI (r=0.217, P<0.001). Subjects with serum TSH levels in the upper tertile (1.84-5.0 mU/l) exhibited a BMI value (30.8 [26.9-34.9] kg/m²) significantly higher (P<0.001) than that found in subjects with TSH levels in the middle (1.13-1.83 mU/l, 28.8 [25.8-32.3] kg/m²) or in the lower tertile (0.4-1.12 mU/l, 27.4 [25.4-30.6] kg/m²). There were no differences in BMI in patients classified according to tertiles of free T4. However, when studying a subgroup of patients with negative thyroid autoimmunity (n=375), we could not observe any significant difference in TSH levels between obese (n=106, 1.24 [0.90-1.81] mU/l) and non-obese subjects (n=269, 1.23 [0.90-1.80] mU/l). No correlation was found between TSH and BMI in this subgroup of subjects with negative thyroid autoimmunity (r=-0.035, NS). CONCLUSION These results suggest that the relationship between TSH and BMI observed in euthyroid subjects is lost when subjects with negative autoimmunity are selected.

Abstract
BACKGROUND A transition of guanin to alanin at codon 54 of the fatty acid-binding protein 2 gene (FABP2) results in an amino acid substitution (Ala54 to Thr54). This polymorphism was associated with some cardiovascular risk factors. OBJECTIVE The aim of our study was to investigate the influence of the Thr54 polymorphism in the FABP2 gene on obesity anthropometric parameters and cardiovascular risk factors in the fasted state in obese subjects and the allelic distribution of this polymorphism in a geographic area of Spain. DESIGN A population of 264 obese subjects was analyzed in a cross-sectional study from all health centers of Castilla y Leon (Spain). A nutritional and biochemical evaluation was performed. The statistical analysis was performed for the combined Ala54/Thr54 and Thr54/Thr54 genotype as a dominant model. RESULTS The mean age was 41.1 ± 13.1 years and the mean BMI 36.5 ± 5.9, with 94 males (35.6%) and 170 females (74.4%). One hundred and fifty-three subjects (58%) had the genotype Ala54/Ala54 (wild-type group) and 111 (42%) participants had the genotype Ala54/Thr54 (n = 92, 34.8%) or Thr54/Thr54 (n = 19, 7.2%) (mutant-type group). The health area of Valladolid had a lower frequency of wild-type genotype and Ala54 allelic frequency than all the other health areas of Castilla y Leon. C-reactive protein was higher in the mutant-type than the wild-type group (3.4 ± 5.6 vs. 7.9 ± 10.4 mg/dl; p < 0.05). CONCLUSION The finding of this study is the association of the Thr54/Ala54 and Thr54/Thr54 FABP2 phenotypes with higher levels of C-reactive protein without relation to insulin resistance. Frequencies of this polymorphism are different among health areas of Castilla y Leon.
