Abstract
A plethora of proteins are able to express iron-sulfur clusters, but have a clear picture of the different types of proteins and the different iron-sulfur clusters they harbor it is not easy. In the last five years we have reviewed structure/electrochemistry of metalloproteins expressing: (i) single types of iron-sulfur clusters (namely: {Fe(Cys)4}, {[Fe2S2](Cys)4}, {[Fe2S2](Cys)3(X)} (X = Asp, Arg, His), {[Fe2S2](Cys)2(His)2}, {[Fe3S4](Cys)3}, {[Fe4S4](Cys)4} and {[Fe4S4](Cys)3(nonthiolate ligand)} cores); (ii) metalloproteins harboring iron-sulfur centres of different nuclearities (namely: [4Fe-4S] and [2Fe-2S], [4Fe-4S] and [3Fe-4S], and [4Fe-4S], [3Fe-4S] and [2Fe-2S] clusters. Our target is now to review structure and electrochemistry of proteins harboring canonical, non-canonical and hybrid iron-sulfur proteins.

Abstract
Abstract
Pyrazolyl-substituted 1,4-dihydroxybenzene and 1,4-dihydroxynaphthene derivatives have been synthesized by reaction of 1,4-benzoquinone and 1,4-naphthoquinone, respectively, with pyrazole. Cyclovoltammetric measurements have shown that 1,4-benzoquinone possesses the potential to oxidize 2-(pyrazol-1-yl)- and 2,5-bis(pyrazol-1-yl)-1,4-dihydroxybenzene. The 2,5-bis(pyrazol-1-yl)- 1,4-dihydroxybenzene reacts with air to give quantitatively black insoluble 2,5-bis(pyrazol-1-yl)-1,4- quinhydrone. Black crystals of 2,5-bis(pyrazol-1-yl)-1,4-quinhydrone suitable for X-ray diffraction were grown from methanol at ambient temperature (monoclinic C2/c). The poor yields of pyrazolylsubstituted 1,4-dihydroxybenzene and 1,4-dihydroxynaphthene derivatives can be explained by the formation of insoluble black quinhydrons in the reaction of benzoquinone and naphthoquinone with pyrazole. The dianions of 2-(pyrazol-1-yl)- and 2,5-bis(pyrazol-1-yl)-1,4-dihydroxybenzene react with oxygen to give the corresponding semiquinone anions. 2,5-Bis(pyrazol-1-yl)-1,4-benzoquinone shows two reversible one-electron reduction processes in cyclovoltammetric measurements, whereas pyrazolyl-substituted 1,4-dihdroxybenzene and -naphthene derivatives undergo irreversibile electrontransfer processes.

Abstract
New styryl-substituted tetrapyrazinoporphyrazines [St8PyzPzM] (M = 2NaI , MgII(H2O) and ZnII ; St = -CH=CHAr , where Ar = phenyl or cumyl) were prepared by template cyclotetramerization of 5,6-distyrylpyrazine-2,3-dicarbonitriles available from condensation of diaminomaleodinitrile with the substituted cinnamils (StCO)2 obtained from biacetyl and arylaldehydes ArCHO . The new porphyrazine macrocycles were characterized by electronic absorption and emission spectra, which provide evidence of efficient π-interaction of the peripheral styryl moieties with the central pyrazinoporphyrazine framework. The electronic excitation of the stylbenoid chromophore in the near UV-region (400 nm) leads to strong emission of the porphyrazine chromophore near 700 nm, allowing to consider the styryl-substituted porphyrazines as efficient light-harvesting species. Their spectral properties and electrochemical behavior are compared with those of stylbenoid phthalocyanines and peripherally substituted tetrapyrazinoporphyrazines.

Abstract
Reaction of [Pt(6)(CO)(4)(P(t)Bu(2))(4)Cl(2)] with excess HS(CH(2))(4)SH in Et(2)NH gave highly stable [Pt(6)(CO)(4)(P(t)Bu(2))(4){S(CH(2))(4)SH}(2)], which adsorbs unchanged onto gold surfaces. This permitted the fabrication and electrical characterisation of gold|molecule|gold junctions involving a well-defined metal carbonyl cluster compound.

Abstract
In recent years, Ru(iii) complexes have emerged as a new class of effective anticancer agents against tumors that proved to be resistant to all other chemotherapeutic drugs currently in clinical use. To extend our previous studies on metal complexes containing sulfur-donor ligands, we report here on the synthesis and characterization, by means of several spectroscopic and analytical techniques, some [Ru(RSDT)(3)] and [Ru(2)(RSDT)(5)]Cl complexes with dithiocarbamato ligands derived from methyl/ethyl/tert-butyl esters of sarcosine. Their electrochemical behaviour was also studied by cyclic voltammetry. All the complexes were tested for their cytotoxicity on a panel of human tumor cell lines showing highly significant antitumor activity. The chemical and biological properties of the newly synthesized complexes, were compared with those of [Ru(DMDT)(3)] and [Ru(2)(DMDT)(5)]Cl species (DMDT = N,N-dimethyldithiocarbamate) whose chemical (not biological) characterization has been already reported in literature.

Abstract
The previously reported hexanuclear cluster [Pt(6)(mu-PtBu(2))(4)(CO)(6)](2+)[Y](2) (1-Y(2): Y=CF(3)SO(3) (-)) contains a central Pt(4) tetrahedron bridged at each of the opposite edges by another platinum atom; in turn, four phosphido ligands bridge the four Pt-Pt bonds not involved in the tetrahedron, and, finally, one carbonyl ligand is terminally bonded to each metal centre. Interestingly, the two outer carbonyls are more easily substituted or attacked by nucleophiles than the inner four, which are bonded to the tetrahedron vertices. In fact, the reaction of 1-Y(2) with 1 equiv of [nBu(4)N]Cl or with an excess of halide salts gives the monochloride [Pt(6)(mu-PtBu(2))(4)(CO)(5)Cl](+)[Y], 2-Y, or the neutral dihalide derivatives [Pt(6)(mu-PtBu(2))(4)(CO)(4)X(2)] (3: X=Cl; 4: X=Br; 5: X=I). Moreover, the useful unsymmetrically substituted [Pt(6)(mu-PtBu(2))(4)(CO)(4)ICl] (6) was obtained by reacting equimolar amounts of 2 and [nBu(4)N]I, and the dicationic derivatives [Pt(6)(mu-PtBu(2))(4)(CO)(4)L(2)](2+)[Y](2) (7-Y(2): L=(13)CO; 8-Y(2): L=CNtBu; 9-Y(2): L=PMe(3)) were obtained by reaction of an excess of the ligand L with 1-Y(2). Weaker nitrogen ligands were introduced by dissolving the dichloride 3 in acetonitrile or pyridyne in the presence of TlPF(6) to afford [Pt(6)(mu-PtBu(2))(4) (CO)(4)L(2)](2+)[Z](2) (Z=PF(6) (-), 10-Z(2): L=MeCN; 11-Z(2): L=Py). The "apical" carbonyls in 1-Y(2) are also prone to nucleophilic addition (Nu(-): H(-), MeO(-)) affording the acyl derivatives [Pt(6)(mu-PtBu(2))(4)(CO)(4)(CONu)(2)] (12: Nu=H; 13: Nu=OMe). Complex 12 is slowly converted into the dihydride [Pt(6)(mu-PtBu(2))(4)(CO)(4)H(2)] (14), which was more cleanly prepared by reacting 3 with NaBH(4). In a unique case we observed a reaction involving also the inner carbonyls of complex 1, that is, in the reaction with a large excess of the isocyanides R-NC, which form the corresponding persubstituted derivatives [Pt(6)(mu-tPBu(2))(4)(CN-R)(6)](2+)[Y](2), (15-Y(2): R=tBu; 16-Y(2) (2-): R=-C(6)H(4)-4-C triple bond CH). All complexes were characterized by microanalysis, IR and multinuclear NMR spectroscopy. The crystal and molecular structures of complexes 3, 5, 6 and 9-Y(2) are also reported. From the redox viewpoint, all complexes display two reversible one-electron reduction steps, the location of which depends both upon the electronic effects of the substituents, and the overall charge of the original complex.
