Abstract
A complex sequence of occurrences, including host genetic vulnerability, Helicobacter pylori infection, and other environmental variables, culminate in gastric cancer (GC). The development of several genetic and epigenetic changes in oncogenes and tumor suppressor genes causes dysregulation of several signaling pathways, which upsets the cell cycle and the equilibrium between cell division and apoptosis, leading to GC. Developments in computational biology and RNA-seq technology enable quick detection and characterization of long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs). Recent studies have shown that long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) have multiple roles in the development of gastric cancer. These lncRNAs interact with molecules of protein, RNA, DNA, and/or combinations. This review article explores several gastric cancer-associated lncRNAs, such as ADAMTS9-AS2, UCA1, XBP-1, and LINC00152. These various lncRNAs could change GC cell apoptosis, migration, and invasion features in the tumor microenvironment. This review provides an overview of the most recent research on lncRNAs and GC cell apoptosis, migration, invasion, and drug resistance, focusing on studies conducted in cancer cells and healthy cells during differentiation.

Abstract
This comprehensive article explores the complex field of glioma treatment, with a focus on the important roles of non-coding RNAsRNAs (ncRNAs) and exosomes, as well as the potential synergies of immunotherapy. The investigation begins by examining the various functions of ncRNAs and their involvement in glioma pathogenesis, progression, and as potential diagnostic biomarkers. Special attention is given to exosomes as carriers of ncRNAs and their intricate dynamics within the tumor microenvironment. The exploration extends to immunotherapy methods, analyzing their mechanisms and clinical implications in the treatment of glioma. By synthesizing these components, the article aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of how ncRNAs, exosomes, and immunotherapy interact, offering valuable insights into the evolving landscape of glioma research and therapeutic strategies.

Abstract
Ferromagnetic insulators (FM-Is) are the materials of interest for the new generation quantum electronic applications. Here, we have investigated the physical observables depicting FM-I ground states in epitaxial Sm2NiMnO6(SNMO) double perovskite thin films fabricated under different conditions to realize the different level of Ni/Mn anti-site disorders (ASDs). The presence of ASDs immensely influence the characteristic magnetic and anisotropy behaviors in SNMO system by introducing short scale antiferromagnetic interactions in predominant long range FM ordered host matrix. Charge disproportion between cation sites, in the form of Ni2++ Mn4+→ Ni3++ Mn3+, causes mixed valency in both Ni and Mn species, which is found insensitive to ASD concentrations. Temperature dependent photo emission, photo absorption measurements duly combined with cluster model configuration interaction simulations, suggest that the eigenstates of Ni and Mn cations can be satisfactorily described as a linear combination of the unscreeneddnand screeneddn+1L̲(L̲: O 2phole) states. The electronic structure across the Fermi level (EF) exhibits closely spaced Ni 3d, Mn 3dand O 2pstates. From occupied and unoccupied bands, estimated values of the Coulomb repulsion energy (U) and ligand to metal charge transfer energy (Δ), indicate charge transfer insulating nature, where remarkable modification in Ni/Mn 3d-O 2phybridization takes place across the FM transition temperature. Existence of ASD broadens the Ni, Mn 3dspectral features, whereas the spectral positions are found to be unaltered. Hereby, present work demonstrates SNMO thin film as a FM-I system, where the FM state can be tuned by manipulating ASD in the crystal structure, while the I state remains intact.

Abstract
The germanium auto-diffusion effects on the inter-atomic distance between the nearest neighbors of the Ga atom in GaP epilayers are investigated using high-resolution X-ray diffraction (HRXRD) and X-ray absorption spectroscopy. The GaP layers grown on Ge (111) are structurally coherent and relaxed but they show the presence of residual strain which is attributed to the auto-diffusion of Ge from the results of secondary ion mass spectrometry and electrochemical capacitance voltage measurements. Subsequently, the inter-atomic distances between the nearest neighbors of Ga atom in GaP are determined from X-ray absorption fine-structure spectra performed at the Ga K-edge. The estimated local bond lengths of Ga with its first and second nearest neighbors show asymmetric variation for the in-plane and out-of-plane direction of GaP/Ge(111). The magnitude and direction of in-plane and out-of-plane microscopic residual strain present in the GaP/Ge are calculated from the difference in bond lengths which explains the presence of macroscopic residual tensile strain estimated from HRXRD. Modified nearest neighbor configurations of Ga in the auto-diffused GaP epilayer are proposed for new possibilities within the GaP/Ge hetero-structure, such as the conversion from indirect to direct band structures and engineering the tensile strain quantum dot structures on (111) surfaces.

Abstract
The layered nanosheets exhibit a variety of physical and optical properties originating from amalgamation of intra- and inter- layer electronic interactions, which makes them promising materials for advanced devices with varsatile controlling channels. In particular, the dilute magnetic semiconductor multilayered nanosheets have promising optical, electrical and magnetic properties that have been less explored so far. Here, the spin permissible optical properties from solvothermally grown Mn doped CdSe (thickness ~2.26 nm) multilayered nanosheets are reported on. The presence of multi-phase magnetic orderings with a sharp ferromagnetic transition at temperature ~48 K pertinent to the stabilization and co-existence of Mn2+ and Mn3+ based local phases have been observed from the (Cd,Mn)Se layered nanosheets corroborating to the x-ray absorption near edge structure, electron paramagnetic resonance, Raman scattering and magnetic measurements. The optical absorption and photoluminescence (PL) studies at room temperature affirm wide array of optical properties in the visible regime corresponding to the band edge and intriguing dopant-phase mediated spin approved transitions. The circularly polarized magneto-PL and life time analysis exhibits the spin-polarized fast radiative transitions confirming the presence of spin-active electronic states.

Abstract
The adsorption of molecular acceptors is a viable method for tuning the work function of metal electrodes. This, in turn, enables adjusting charge injection barriers between the electrode and organic semiconductors. Here, we demonstrate the potential of pyrene-tetraone (PyT) and its derivatives dibromopyrene-tetraone (Br-PyT) and dinitropyrene-tetraone (NO2-PyT) for modifying the electronic properties of Au(111) and Ag(111) surfaces. The systems are investigated by complementary theoretical and experimental approaches, including photoelectron spectroscopy, the X-ray standing wave technique, and density functional theory simulations. For some of the investigated interfaces the trends expected for Fermi-level pinning are observed, i.e., an increase of the metal work function along with increasing molecular electron affinity and the same work function for Au and Ag with monolayer acceptor coverage. Substantial deviations are, however, found for Br-PyT/Ag(111) and NO2-PyT/Ag(111), where in the latter case an adsorption-induced work function increase of as much as 1.6 eV is observed. This behavior is explained as arising from a face-on to edge-on reorientation of molecules in the monolayer. Our calculations show that for an edge-on orientation much larger work-function changes can be expected despite the prevalence of Fermi-level pinning. This is primarily ascribed to a change of the electron affinity of the adsorbate layer that results from a change of the molecular orientation. This work provides a comprehensive understanding of how changing the molecular electron affinity as well as the adsorbate structure impacts the electronic properties of electrodes.

Abstract
The influence of carbon concentration on the electronic and magnetic properties of C-implanted ZnO thin films has been studied using synchrotron radiation based X-ray absorption spectroscopic techniques and vibrating sample magnetometer measurements. 20 keV carbon ions were implanted in ZnO films with different fluences (2 × 1016, 4 × 1016 and 6 × 1016 ions per cm2). The pristine ZnO film shows diamagnetic behaviour while the C-implanted films exhibit room temperature ferromagnetism. Our first-principles calculations based on density functional theory show an appreciable magnetic moment only when the implanted C atom sits either in the O-site (2 μB) or in the interstitial position (1.88 μB), whereas the C atom in the Zn substitutional position does not possess any magnetic moment. X-ray absorption near edge structure analysis at the O K-edge reveals that the charge transfer from O-2p to the C-defect site causes the ferromagnetism in the C-implanted ZnO film at low fluence. However at high fluence, the implanted C replaces the lattice and produces more Zn vacancies, as evidenced by extended X-ray absorption fine structure studies at the Zn K-edge, which favors the ferromagnetism. The persistence of the implanted carbon and ferromagnetism of the C-implanted ZnO film has also been studied by isothermal annealing at 500 °C and discussed in detail.

Abstract
In recent years, immunological barriers historically considered as absolute contraindications to transplantation are being reevaluated. One such barrier is the ABO blood group incompatibility. With better understanding of immunological mechanisms and effective various regimens for controlling it, ABO-incompatible (ABO-I) kidney transplantation is now being performed with increasing frequency. For good outcome, most important is to achieve and maintain low anti-blood group antibody titers (ABGATs). Twenty-two patients with ABO-I donors have been studied. The anti-A and anti-B antibody titers (IgG and IgM) were estimated by column agglutination technology using Automated Ortho BioVue System. For desensitization, pretransplant plasmapheresis and/or immunoadsorption and rituximab were used. ABGAT was determined before transplant and periodically after transplant. It was observed that one-third of the patients have low baseline ABGAT. In these cases with low ABGAT, transplant can be performed without any desensitization. In those with titers <1:256, rituximab (two doses of 200 mg weekly) and 3–6 sessions of plasmapheresis can bring down titers to <1:32. In those with titers >1:256, immunoadsorption may be used from the beginning to reduce ABGAT. After transplant, the titers drop to <1:8 in majority. Rise in titers to >1:64 require close observation and biopsy. If there is evidence of antibody-mediated rejection, treatment should be promptly started. Rise in titers 4–6 weeks after transplant is not associated with any graft dysfunction, and hence not of any clinical significance.

Abstract
A 38-year-old female on Vitamin D therapy presented with hypercalcemia induced acute kidney injury. Evaluation revealed primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT) and iatrogenic hypervitaminosis D. After medical stabilization, she underwent surgical removal of the parathyroid adenoma, and made a full recovery. This case highlights unmasking of subclinical hyperparathyroidism by vitamin D therapy leading to severe hypercalcemia.

Abstract
Culture-dependent detection of gastroenteric bacteria is labour-intensive and does not provide results in a clinically relevant time frame. Several commercially available multiplex molecular panels are now available which may be more sensitive and could potentially provide rapid results. We compared the diagnostic accuracy, turnaround time and ease of use of three such molecular panels: the RIDA®GENE Bacterial Stool and EHEC/EPEC Panels (R-Biopharm AG, Darmstadt, Germany), the FTD® Bacterial Gastroenteritis Panel (Fast Track Diagnostics, Junglinster, Luxembourg) and the BD MAX™ Enteric Bacterial Panel (Becton Dickinson GmbH, Heidelberg, Germany). The results from 116 retrospective selected and 318 prospective unselected stool samples were compared with conventional culture-based techniques using a gold standard for a positive test of either culture or agreement in two of the three molecular panels. For most targets, the molecular panels were more sensitive than culture, detecting an additional 13 cases that culture missed. The laboratory turnaround time was under 3 h for all molecular panels, compared with 66.5 h for culture. The BD MAX™ panel was the fastest, easiest to use and most flexible.

Abstract
Surface X-ray diffraction has been employed to elucidate the structure of the interface between a well-characterized (001) surface of 0.1 wt % Nb-SrTiO3 and liquid H2O. Results are reported for the clean surface, the surface in contact with a drop of liquid water, and the surface after the water droplet has been removed with a flow of nitrogen. The investigation revealed that the clean surface, prepared via annealing in 1 × 10-2 mbar O2 partial pressure, is unreconstructed and rough on a short length scale. The surface is covered with large terraces, the topmost layer of which is either TiO2 or SrO with an area ratio of about 7/3. For the surface in contact with water, our results reveal that associative H2O adsorption is favored for the TiO2-terminated terrace whereas adsorption is dissociative for the SrO-terminated terrace, which validates recent first-principles calculations. After removal of the water droplet, the surface largely resembles the water-covered surface but now with a disordered overlayer of water present on the surface.

Abstract
Spin valves have revolutionized the field of magnetic recording and memory devices. Spin valves are generally realized in thin film heterostructures, where two ferromagnetic (FM) layers are separated by a nonmagnetic conducting layer. Here, we demonstrate spin-valve-like magnetoresistance at room temperature in a bulk ferrimagnetic material that exhibits a magnetic shape memory effect. The origin of this unexpected behavior in Mn(2)NiGa has been investigated by neutron diffraction, magnetization, and ab initio theoretical calculations. The refinement of the neutron diffraction pattern shows the presence of antisite disorder where about 13% of the Ga sites are occupied by Mn atoms. On the basis of the magnetic structure obtained from neutron diffraction and theoretical calculations, we establish that these antisite defects cause the formation of FM nanoclusters with parallel alignment of Mn spin moments in a Mn(2)NiGa bulk lattice that has antiparallel Mn spin moments. The direction of the Mn moments in the soft FM cluster reverses with the external magnetic field. This causes a rotation or tilt in the antiparallel Mn moments at the cluster-lattice interface resulting in the observed asymmetry in magnetoresistance.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Androgenetic alopecia (AGA) has received scant attention, despite it being a common entity that may result in significant psychosocial morbidity. There are some patients who do not fit into any of the proposed types. Moreover, there have been no published studies of pattern and prevalence of AGA in males in an Indian context. Hence, the present study was an attempt to classify AGA in males with the aim of producing a simple, effective and easily reproducible classification. METHODS In total, 150 male patients were clinically diagnosed as AGA. After obtaining informed consent from all patients, a detailed history/examination was carried out, including a hair pull test, a trichogram investigation and a biopsy. Classification of AGA was subsequently attempted across Norwood guidelines. RESULTS A gradual shift in the type of AGA from the earlier types (II and III) to more severe types (VI) with increasing age was significant. Twenty-seven patients did not fit into specific patterns according to Hamilton and Norwood classifications. In addition, type 'a' variant was recorded in 20% of patients, clearly indicating limitations of the existing classifications. CONCLUSIONS It was possible to classify 80% of the AGA, with II (28%) and III (15%) being the most common types of AGA. Twenty-seven patients (18%) could not be classified as a significant finding. There was considerable overlap in types IV, V and VI in the Norwood classification with the 'a' variants further confusing the picture.
