Abstract
The craniocervical flexion test (CCFT) is commonly used for assessing the performance and function of the deep cervical flexor muscles; however, objective measurements of cervical segmental motion during craniocervical flexion (CCF) are lacking. Therefore, the purpose of this study aimed to investigate cervical segmental motions during CCFT and determine the relationship between changes of cervical segmental motions and the cervical lordotic angle. A cross-sectional study of prospectively collected data. Twenty healthy participants without neck pain underwent standing cervical radiography (lateral view) to measure the cervical lordotic angle, followed by radiography in supine position during the CCFT. The occipito-atlantal (OA) joint angle, atlantoaxial (AA) joint angle, and cervical spinous process posterior displacement (CSPPD) of the C1-C6 vertebrae were measured using lateral cervical radiographs taken during the initial (20 mm Hg) and low-stage (24 mm Hg) CCFT conditions. The CCF motion during the low-stage CCFT was characterized by a significantly increased OA joint angle, decreased AA joint angle, and increased C1-C6 CSPPD compared with the initial stage (P < .05). The change in the value of C1-C6 CSPPD at low-stage CCFT showed a significant positive correlation with the cervical lordotic angle. These results indicate that the cervical lordotic angle is important in minimizing CSPPD and performing appropriately-isolated CCF motion during CCFT.

Abstract
Objective Ankle injuries in delivery workers (DWs) are often caused by trips, and high recurrence rates of ankle sprains are related to chronic ankle instability (CAI). Heel rise requires joint angles and moments similar to those of the terminal stance phase of walking that the foot supinates. Thus, our study aimed to develop, determine, and compare the predictive performance of statistical machine learning models to classify DWs with and without CAI using ankle kinematics during heel rise. Methods In total, 203 DWs were screened for eligibility. Seven predictors were included in our study (age, work duration, body mass index, calcaneal stance position angle [CSPA] in the initial and terminal positions during heel rise, calcaneal movement during heel rise [CMHR], and plantar flexion angle during heel rise). Six machine learning algorithms, including logistic regression, decision tree, AdaBoost, Extreme Gradient boosting machines, random forest, and support vector machine, were trained. Results The random forest model (area under the curve [AUC], 0.967 [excellent]; F1, 0.889; accuracy, 0.925) confirmed the best predictive performance in the test datasets among the six machine learning models. For Shapley Additive Explanations, old age, low CMHR, high CSPA in the initial position, high PFA, long work duration, low CSPA in the terminal position, and high body mass index were the most important predictors of CAI in the random forest model. Conclusion Ankle kinematics during heel rise can be considered in the classification of DWs with and without CAI.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION The pelvic floor muscle (PFM) could affect female sexual functions. The hip muscles are morphologically and functionally linked to PFM and are important elements of female sexual attraction. AIM To determine the relationship between female sexual function and hip muscle strength and PFM functions in women with stress urinary incontinence (SUI). METHODS A total of 42 women with SUI were recruited in this study. Female sexual function was measured using the pelvic organ prolapse urinary incontinence sexual function questionnaire (PISQ). PFM functions were measured using a perineometer. Hip muscle strength was measured using a Smart KEMA tension sensor. The relationship between female sexual function and PFM function and hip muscle strength was assessed using Pearson correlation coefficients and multiple regression analyses with forward selection. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES PISQ score, PFM functions (strength and endurance), and strength of hip extensor, abductor, and adductor were the main outcome measures. RESULTS For the behavioral/emotive domain in the PISQ, hip extensor strength (r = 0.452), PFM strength (r = 0.441), PFM endurance (r = 0.362), and hip adductor strength (r = 0.324) were significantly correlated and hip extensor strength emerged in multiple regression. For the physical domain in the PISQ, hip abductor strength (r = 0.417), PFM endurance (r = 0.356), hip adductor strength (r = 0.332), and PFM strength (r = 0.322) were significantly correlated and hip abductor strength entered in multiple regression. For partner-related domain in the PISQ, hip adductor (r = 0.386) and abductor strength (r = 0.314) were significantly correlated and hip adductor strength appeared in multiple regression. For the PISQ total score, hip extensor strength (r = 0.484), PFM endurance (r = 0.470), hip adductor strength (r = 0.424), hip abductor strength (r = 0.393), and PFM strength (r = 0.387) were significantly correlated and hip extensor strength and PFM endurance emerged in multiple regression. Abstract
BACKGROUND The pelvic floor muscle (PFM) is associated with respiratory function. We investigated the effects of PFM training by pelvic floor electrical stimulation (PFES) on PFM strength, diaphragm excursion, and upper rib cage movement during tidal and forceful breathing and coughing in women with stress urinary incontinence (SUI). METHODS In total, 33 participants with SUI were divided into PFES and control groups. The two groups were measured pre- and post-8 weeks of training. Diaphragm excursion and upper rib cage movement during tidal and forceful breathing and coughing and PFM strength were measured using sonography, electromagnetic sensors, and perineometry. RESULTS There were significant difference of main effect between pre- and post-training and between groups in PFM strength (between groups: P = .001, between time: P < .001) and diaphragm excursion during forceful breathing (between groups: P = .015, between time: P = .026) and coughing (between groups: P = .035, between time: P = .006). There were significant differences in diaphragm excursion during tidal (P = .002) and forceful breathing (P = .005) and coughing (P < .001) between pre- and post-training in the PFES group. Elevation of the upper rib cage during tidal (P < .001) and forceful breathing (P = .001) was significantly decreased after 8 weeks of training in the PFES group. Widening in the horizontal plane in the upper rib cage during forceful breathing (P < .001) was significantly increased after 8 weeks of training in the PFES group. PFM strength (P < .001) was significantly increased after 8 weeks of training in the PFES group. CONCLUSIONS Pelvic floor muscles training by electrical stimulation can improve diaphragm excursion and breathing patterns in women with SUI.

Abstract
Although lumbopelvic stability exercise improves lumbopelvic motor control function in patients with chronic low back pain (CLBP), the difference in lumbopelvic motor control function between the patients with CLBP and the healthy controls is unclear. The purpose of this study was to compare lumbopelvic motor control function between patients with CLBP and healthy controls and to determine the prevalence of CLBP according to core stability function.For this study, 278 participants were recruited, including patients with CLBP (n = 137) and healthy controls (n = 141). The participants performed a core stability function test and were classified to either the low or high core stability function group according to their core stability function for CLBP prevalence analysis.Lumbopelvic motor control was significantly higher in the healthy controls than in patients with CLBP. Of the patients in the low lumbopelvic motor control function group, 65.9% had CLBP, whereas 36.8% of the patients in the high lumbopelvic motor control function group had CLBP. Lumbopelvic motor control function demonstrated a significant difference between the patients with CLBP and the healthy controls. The lumbopelvic motor control function test was demonstrated to be an effective diagnostic tool for distinguishing CLBP. This information can be applied in assessments and interventions for CLBP in clinical settings.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Previous studies suggested that patients with symptomatic intervertebral disc degeneration (IDD) of lumbar spine have reduced cross-sectional area (CSA) and functions of core muscles. However, reduced CSA and functions of core muscles have been observed not only in patients with symptomatic IDD but also in patients with other subgroups of low back pain (LBP). Thus, it is uncertain whether reduced CSA and functions of core muscles lead to IDD and LBP, or pain leads to reduced CSA and functions of core muscles in patients with symptomatic IDD. Therefore, this study aimed to compare the CSA and functions of core muscles between asymptomatic participants with and without IDD in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). METHODS Twenty asymptomatic participants (12 men and 8 women) participated in this study. Ten participants had asymptomatic IDD at L4-5. The others were healthy controls (without IDD at all levels of lumbar spine). The CSA of core muscles was measured using MRI. Maximal isometric trunk flexor strength and side bridge strength were measured by a Smart KEMA strength sensor. Trunk flexor endurance test, side bridge endurance test and plank endurance test were used to measure core endurance. Double legs loading test was used to measure core stability. Mann-Whitney U test was used to compare the differences between two groups. RESULTS There were no significant differences in core muscle functions between the two groups (p > 0.05). Moreover, there was no significant difference in CSA between the two groups (p > 0.05). CONCLUSIONS There was no significant difference in CSA and core muscle functions between asymptomatic participants with and without IDD. These findings indicate that a degenerative or bulging disc in asymptomatic individuals has little effect on CSA and functions of core muscles, especially in young age. Therefore, the general core endurance test or strength test could not differentiate asymptomatic people with and without IDD of lumbar spine. Abstract
Findings about predictors of chronic lower-back pain (CLBP) were inconsistent and inconclusive in previous studies because patients with CLBP are heterogeneous. Subgrouping patients with CLBP, according to a CLBP classification system, might thus clarify the research findings. CLBP in the direction of lumbar flexion movement, that is, the flexion pattern, is common in clinical situations. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to determine the predictors of dysfunction (pain, disability) and health-related quality of life in the flexion pattern subgroup of patients with CLBP.A cross-sectional study of prospectively collected data. One hundred eight subjects in the flexion pattern subgroup of CLBP. Thirteen variables were measured: the visual analog scale (VAS), the Oswestry Disability Index (ODI), the Short Form-36 (SF-36), the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), hip internal rotation range of motion, hip flexion range of motion, knee extension range of motion, knee extension with dorsiflexion range of motion, ratio forward flexion, knee extension strength, hip extension strength, hip flexion strength, and lumbopelvic stability.The models for predictors of lower-back pain in the CLBP flexion pattern subgroup included knee extension and the BDI as predictor variables that accounted for 8.1% of the variance in the VAS (P < .05); predictors for disability included the BDI, age, and hip flexion strength, which accounted for 21.2% of the variance in the ODI (P < .05); predictors for health-related quality of life included the BDI, sex, knee extension with dorsiflexion range of motion, and age, which accounted for 38.8% of the variance in the SF-36 (P < .05) in multiple regression models with a stepwise selection procedure.The current results suggest that knee extension, the BDI, age, hip flexion strength, knee extension with dorsiflexion, and sex should be considered when determining appropriate prediction, prevention, and intervention in the flexion pattern subgroup of patients with CLBP.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The efficacy of facial muscle exercises (FMEs) for facial rejuvenation is controversial. In the majority of previous studies, nonquantitative assessment tools were used to assess the benefits of FMEs. OBJECTIVES This study examined the effectiveness of FMEs using a Pao (MTG, Nagoya, Japan) device to quantify facial rejuvenation. METHODS Fifty females were asked to perform FMEs using a Pao device for 30 seconds twice a day for 8 weeks. Facial muscle thickness and cross-sectional area were measured sonographically. Facial surface distance, surface area, and volumes were determined using a laser scanning system before and after FME. Facial muscle thickness, cross-sectional area, midfacial surface distances, jawline surface distance, and lower facial surface area and volume were compared bilaterally before and after FME using a paired Student t test. RESULTS The cross-sectional areas of the zygomaticus major and digastric muscles increased significantly (right: P < 0.001, left: P = 0.015), while the midfacial surface distances in the middle (right: P = 0.005, left: P = 0.047) and lower (right: P = 0.028, left: P = 0.019) planes as well as the jawline surface distances (right: P = 0.004, left: P = 0.003) decreased significantly after FME using the Pao device. The lower facial surface areas (right: P = 0.005, left: P = 0.006) and volumes (right: P = 0.001, left: P = 0.002) were also significantly reduced after FME using the Pao device. CONCLUSIONS FME using the Pao device can increase facial muscle thickness and cross-sectional area, thus contributing to facial rejuvenation. LEVEL OF EVIDENCE 4

Abstract
BACKGROUND This study was conducted in order to compare the strength of scapular elevator and shoulder abductor with and without restricted scapular elevation between male subjects with and without myofascial trigger points in the upper trapezius. METHODS In total, 15 male subjects with myofascial trigger points, and 15age- and weight-matched male subjects without myofascial trigger points in the upper trapezius. Each subject was measured in the strength of maximum isometric scapular elevation and shoulder abduction with and without restricted scapular elevation. Maximum isometric contractions were measured using the Smart KEMA strength measurement system. Independent t-tests were used to compare shoulder strength values between the myofascial trigger points and non- myofascial trigger points groups. FINDING The results showed that shoulder abductor strength in the group with myofascial trigger points (5.64kgf) was significantly lower than in the group without myofascial trigger points (11.96kgf) when scapular elevation was restricted (p<0.05). However, there was no significant difference in the strength of the scapular elevator or shoulder abductor between groups (p>0.05). INTERPRETATION These findings suggest that decreased strength in the shoulder abductor with restricted scapular elevation should be considered in evaluating and treating individuals with myofascial trigger points of the upper trapezius.

Abstract
CONTEXT A variety of ankle self-stretching exercises have been recommended to improve ankle-dorsiflexion range of motion (DFROM) in individuals with limited ankle dorsiflexion. A strap can be applied to stabilize the talus and facilitate anterior glide of the distal tibia at the talocrural joint during ankle self-stretching exercises. Novel ankle self-stretching using a strap (SSS) may be a useful method of improving ankle DFROM. OBJECTIVE To compare the effects of 2 ankle-stretching techniques (static stretching versus SSS) on ankle DFROM. DESIGN Randomized controlled clinical trial. SETTING University research laboratory. PATIENTS OR OTHER PARTICIPANTS Thirty-two participants with limited active dorsiflexion (<20°) while sitting (14 women and 18 men) were recruited. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURE(S) The participants performed 2 ankle self-stretching techniques (static stretching and SSS) for 3 weeks. Active DFROM (ADFROM), passive DFROM (PDFROM), and the lunge angle were measured. An independent t test was used to compare the improvements in these values before and after the 2 stretching interventions. The level of statistical significance was set at α = .05. RESULTS Active DFROM and PDFROM were greater in both stretching groups after the 3-week interventions. However, ADFROM, PDFROM, and the lunge angle were greater in the SSS group than in the static-stretching group (P < .05). CONCLUSIONS Ankle SSS is recommended to improve ADFROM, PDFROM, and the lunge angle in individuals with limited DFROM.
