Abstract
BACKGROUND The diagnosis of primary aldosteronism (PA) requires screening and confirmation testing. The present study examined whether the 1 µg ACTH stimulation test for plasma aldosterone concentration (PAC) can accurately diagnose PA by bypassing the regular confirmatory steps of PA diagnosis. METHODS A cross-sectional study with a total of 36 patients with an aldosterone-renin ratio (ARR) > 20 ng/dL per ng/m/hr were included. The confirmation test for PA was performed by saline infusion and the patients were categorized into PA and non-PA. PAC was collected at 20 and 40 min after 1 µg ACTH stimulation test. Multivariable logistic regression analysis was performed, and the associations are presented as odds ratios (OR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI). Diagnostic accuracy is presented as AuROC. RESULTS Multivariable analysis found only PAC at 20 min after ACTH stimulation showed significant association with a diagnosis of PA (OR 1.18, 95%CI (0.99, 1.31), p = 0.040). AuROC for this value was 0.95 and the proposed cut-off was 52 ng/dL with a sensitivity of 71.4% and a specificity of 96.6%. CONCLUSIONS Diagnosing PA may be aided by PAC at 20 min following 1 µg ACTH stimulation. This value may be used with patients for whom the confirmation test for PA cannot be conducted.

Abstract
BACKGROUND To date, no studies have addressed the comparative efficacy of glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP1-RAs) therapy on body composition and anthropometric indices among adult overweight or obese patients with or without type 2 diabetes. To provide evidence-based recommendations, we will conduct a traditional pairwise and network meta-analysis of all available randomized clinical trials that evaluated the effects of GLP1-RAs interventions for adult overweight or obese patients with or without type 2 diabetes. METHODS AND DESIGN Electronic databases, including Medline, Embase, PubMed, Cochrane Library (CENTRAL), Scopus, and CINAHL, will be searched from inception without language restriction. Grey literature will be searched, including Google Scholar, ongoing clinical trial registries, and preprint reports. Reference lists of included trials, relevant major endocrinology scientific meetings, and manual hand searches from key general medicine and obesity and endocrinology journals will also be browsed. Two authors will screen, select, extract, appraise the risk of bias, and rate the evidence findings. Any disagreement will be resolved through team discussion. Based on a random-effects model, we will employ a two-step approach of traditional pairwise meta-analysis and network meta-analysis for quantitative synthesis. The pooled effect estimates using a frequentist approach with 95% confidence intervals for continuous endpoints will be expressed as the standardized mean difference, whereas odds ratios will be used for categorical endpoints. The quality of included trials will be evaluated using the Cochrane risk-of-bias version 2 assessment tool. Certainty of evidence for each outcome will be assessed using the modified confidence in network meta-analysis approach and the Grading of Recommended Assessment, Development, and Evaluation approach. The magnitude of the effect size, prediction intervals, surface under the cumulative ranking curve values, and certainty of evidence will be incorporated to draw evidence-based conclusions. CONCLUSION This systematic review and network meta-analysis will summarize the comparative efficacy of GLP1-RAs therapy on body composition and anthropometric indices. Evidence identified from this review will promote the rational use of interventions for adult overweight or obese patients with or without type 2 diabetes and will serve as an important step for evidence-based practice within this area. Abstract
Background Sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitors (SGLT2i) are a novel medication for treating type 2 diabetes (T2DM), which have the pleiotropic effect of weight reduction. This study aimed to evaluate clinical and biochemical predictors of effective weight reduction in T2DM patients who use various types of SGLT2i. Materials and methods A retrospective study was conducted with 289 adults diagnosed with T2DM who were first prescribed SGLT2i either as monotherapy or add-on therapy. The primary outcome was the identification of clinical and biochemical factors that can potentially induce meaningful weight reduction (>3% in 1 year) in T2DM patients while using SGLT2 inhibitors. The relationship between predictors and significant weight loss was assessed using logistic regression analysis, including adjustment for confounding factors. Results are presented as odds ratios (ORs) with a 95% confidence interval (CI). Results Among the 289 patients, 45.6% had significant weight loss following SGLT2i use. The significant clinical predictors were age >70 years old (OR 3.26, 95% CI 1.39-7.6, p=0.006), body mass index >25 kg/m2 (OR 1.02, 95% CI 1.01-1.05, p=0.049), and the use of sulfonylureas (OR 2.41, 95% CI 1.15-5.09, p=0.020). Additionally, the use of HCTZ showed significantly decreased odds of weight loss (OR 0.35, 95% CI 0.13-0.96, p=0.043). Conclusion This research highlights multiple clinical factors that potentially can predict meaningful weight loss in patients with T2DM who are treated with SGLT2i. These findings could facilitate the identification of patients who might benefit from the weight loss effects of SGLT2i.

Abstract
AIMS/INTRODUCTION High glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) variability has been reported to be linked with cardiovascular events in type 2 diabetes patients. Only a few studies have been carried out on Asian patients. This study aimed to investigate the association of prediabetes and type 2 diabetes in Asian patients by performing a post-hoc analysis of a multicenter, prospective, observational study. MATERIALS AND METHODS Data for prediabetes and type 2 diabetes patients were retrieved from a multicenter national registry entitled "CORE-Thailand study." The primary outcome was 4P-MACE (major adverse cardiovascular events, including non-fatal myocardial infarction, heart failure hospitalization, non-fatal stroke and all-cause death). Patients were stratified according to quartiles of HbA1c standard deviation. The Cox proportional hazards regression model was used to estimate the association of HbA1c variability with incident cardiovascular disease. RESULTS A total of 3,811 patients with prediabetes and type 2 diabetes were included. The median follow-up duration was 54 months. In the fully adjusted model, the highest quartile of HbA1c variability showed a statistically significant association with 4P-MACE (hazard ratio [HR] 2.77, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.77-4.35), fatal and non-fatal myocardial infarction (HR 6.91, 95% CI 1.90-25.12), hospitalization for heart failure (HR 3.34, 95% CI 1.20-9.26) and all-cause death (HR 3.10, 95% CI 1.72-5.57). All these outcomes were statistically significantly different among four quartiles of HbA1c (log-rank P-value <0.05). Fatal and non-fatal stroke showed no statistically significant association with high HbA1c variability. CONCLUSION High HbA1c variability in the highest quartile showed a statistically significant association with multiple adverse cardiovascular events in an Asian population. Minimizing HbA1c fluctuation during long-term follow up should be another important objective for type 2 diabetes patients.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) were developed to examine patients' perceptions of functional health. Most studies compare the responsiveness of each type of questionnaire. However, reports of patient preferences among PROMs commonly used with patients with hand/wrist injuries or disorders are limited. This study aimed to compare patient preferences, factors associated with those preferences and responsiveness among the Disability of the Arm, Shoulder, and Hand (DASH), Michigan Hand Outcomes Questionnaire (MHQ), Patient-Rated Wrist/Hand Evaluation (PRWHE) and EQ-5D in patients with hand/wrist injuries or disorders. MATERIAL AND METHODS This retrospective cohort study collected data on 183 patients with hand/wrist injuries or diseases who had visited a hand/wrist outpatient clinic or were hospitalized for surgery between 2017 and 2020. Patients had to be at least 18 years old and able to complete the four questionnaires included in the study. The four PROMs (DASH, MHQ, PRWHE and EQ-5D) were administered to the patients prior to treatment. After completing the questionnaires, patients were asked to answer two open-ended questions regarding their preferences. Multinomial logistic regression was used to identify factors related to patient preferences. Results are presented as the relative risk ratio (RRR). The standardized response mean (SRM) was used to evaluate questionnaire responsiveness. RESULTS Of the 183 patients, most preferred the PRWHE questionnaire (n = 74, 41%), with the main reasons cited being "specific to injuries/diseases and reflects hand/wrist function (n = 23, 31%)" and "easy to complete (n = 22, 30%)." Sex was found to be associated with patient preference after adjusting for demographic data and reasons for choosing a PROM as confounders (RRR = 0.46, P value = 0.049). The PRWHE had the highest SRM, followed by DASH (0.92 and 0.88, respectively). CONCLUSIONS The PRWHE is the most preferred by patients and is the most responsive questionnaire. It is recommended for use in clinical practice in situations where a clinician would like to use only one PROM for evaluating patients with various types of hand/wrist problems. Abstract
We developed a classification for open hand fractures based on risk score to predict the risk of infection requiring re-debridement. A total of 846 retrospectively included patients underwent multivariable analysis with backward elimination to derive the predictive risk score from independent predictors. The incidence of infection requiring re-debridement was 4%. Independent predictors include diabetes mellitus or immunocompromised condition, injuries from a bite, fractures with comminution/bone loss, neurovascular injuries and inadequate soft tissue coverage. The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve of the prediction score was 0.79. The new classification system for open hand fractures divides patients into three groups: low-risk open fractures (Type I, score <1); moderate-risk open fractures (Type II, score 1 to 2.5); and high-risk open fractures (Type III, score >2.5), based on the risk of infection requiring re-debridement. Re-debridement and delayed primary closure are suggested for type III open fractures.Level of evidence: III.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Steroid injection and splinting, which are commonly recommended nonsurgical treatments in adults with trigger finger, have been demonstrated to effectively relieve pain and improve function. However, to our knowledge, there have been no direct comparisons of pain relief and function improvement with splinting alone, steroid injection alone, or a combination of splinting and steroid injection in patients with this diagnosis. QUESTION/PURPOSE Are there differences in pain reduction and functional improvement in adults with trigger finger treated with splinting alone, steroid injection alone, and a combination of splinting and steroid injection at 6, 12, and 52 weeks after the intervention? METHODS Between May 2021 and December 2021, we treated 165 adult patients for trigger finger at an academic university hospital. Based on prespecified criteria, all patients we saw during that period were eligible, but 27% (45 of 165) were excluded because they had received a previous local corticosteroid injection (n = 10) or they had concomitant carpal tunnel syndrome (n = 14), first carpometacarpal joint arthritis (n = 3), osteoarthritis of the hand (n = 6), de Quervain disease (n = 3), multiple-digit trigger finger (n = 6), or pregnancy during the study period (n = 3). After screening, 120 patients were randomized to receive either splinting (n = 43), steroid injection (n = 40), or splinting plus steroid injection (n = 37). Patients were randomly assigned to the different treatments using computer-generated block randomization (block of six). Sequentially numbered, opaque, sealed envelopes were used in the allocation concealment process. Both the allocator and the outcome assessor were blinded. Splinting involved the patient wearing a fixed metacarpophalangeal joint orthosis in the neutral position at least 8 hours per day for 6 consecutive weeks. Steroid injection was performed using 1 mL of 1% lidocaine without epinephrine and 1 mL of triamcinolone acetonide (10 mg/mL) injected directly into the flexor tendon sheath. No patients were lost to follow-up or had treatment failure (that is, the patient had persistent pain or triggering with the trigger finger treatment and requested additional medical management including additional splinting, steroid injection, or surgery) at 6 or 12 weeks after the intervention, and at 52 weeks, there was no difference in loss to follow-up among the treatment groups. An intention-to-treat analysis was performed with all 120 patients, and a per-protocol analysis was conducted with 86 patients after excluding patients who were lost to follow-up or had treatment failure. Primary outcomes evaluated were VAS pain reduction and improvement in Michigan Hand Outcomes Questionnaire (MHQ) scores at 6, 12, and 52 weeks after the intervention. The minimum clinically important difference (MCID) values were 1 and 10.9 for the VAS and MHQ, respectively. RESULTS There were no clinically important differences in VAS pain scores among the three treatment groups at any timepoint, in either the intention-to-treat or the per-protocol analyses. Likewise, there were no clinically important differences in MHQ scores at any timepoint in either the intention-to-treat or the per-protocol analyses. CONCLUSION Splinting alone is recommended as the initial treatment for adults with trigger finger because there were no clinically important differences between splinting alone and steroid injection alone in terms of pain reduction and symptom or functional improvement up to 1 year. The combination of steroid injection and splinting is disadvantageous because the benefits in terms of pain reduction and symptom or functional improvement are not different from those achieved with steroid injection or splinting alone. Abstract
Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) represents a significant health threat worldwide. The aging population and a rise in metabolic syndrome in Asia might influence the epidemiology of NAFLD among the elderly. However, there is a lack of understanding of the burden and recommendations for NAFLD in this group. Our study sought to investigate the trends in the NAFLD burden among the elderly in the Asia-Pacific region. We employed data from the Global Burden of Disease 2019 study for an in-depth analysis of the prevalence and disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) along with age-standardized rate (ASR) associated with NAFLD in elderly populations (age 65-89 years) across the Asia-Pacific region, including the Southeast Asia (SEA) and Western Pacific (WP) regions, from 2010 to 2019. This study also examined the trends and disparities in NAFLD burden across different nations and sexes. In 2019, there were over 120 million cases of NAFLD in the elderly in the Asia-Pacific region. The ASR of prevalence was higher in SEA compared to WP (36,995.37 vs. 32,821.78 per 100,000). ASR of prevalence increased with annual percentage change (APC) +0.95% in the WP while it increased by +0.87% in SEA. During the study period, the ASR of DALYs decreased in SEA (APC -0.41%) but remained stable in the WP region. The burden of NAFLD in the elderly population in Asia-Pacific has increased, underscoring the timely intervention to tackle this high and rising burden.

Abstract
We investigated the minimal clinically important difference (MCID) of the Michigan Hand Outcomes Questionnaire (MHQ) and the pain visual analogue scale (VAS-pain) after conservative treatment of trigger finger. This secondary analysis of a randomized controlled trial compared pain reduction, symptoms and functional improvement at 12 weeks. Patients included were at least 18 years old and able to complete MHQ and VAS-pain at enrolment and 12 weeks after treatment. The MCIDs of MHQ and VAS-pain were evaluated using a distribution-based, anchor-based and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve-based approach. Of the 117 patients, the MCIDs of MHQ and VAS-pain using a distribution-based approach were 5.3 and 0.6, respectively; applying ROC method were 23.5 and 2.5, respectively; and using anchor questions were 15 and 2, respectively. These MCID values by anchor-based method with a minimal difference of 15 for MHQ and 2 for VAS-pain are recommended as primary evidence to determine clinically significant improvement after conservative treatment of trigger finger.Level of evidence: I.

Abstract
Identifying secondary causes among osteoporotic patients is crucial. However, there is no simple tool for screening secondary osteoporosis. A predictive model for screening secondary osteoporosis was constructed using simple clinical and biochemical parameters. This predictive model may provide clinicians with guidance to perform further investigations for specific causes of osteoporosis. PURPOSE Establishing whether a fragility fracture is secondary to a specific cause of osteoporosis is crucial for treatment outcomes. Therefore, this study aimed to develop a simple screening tool for secondary osteoporosis in the elderly initially presented with fragility fractures. METHODS A retrospective cohort study including 456 patients with fragility hip and vertebral fractures that occurred between January 2017 and July 2022 was conducted. Demographic, clinical, biochemical, and final diagnostic data were retrieved. Potential predictors for secondary osteoporosis were determined by multivariable logistic regression analysis, and a predictive model for secondary osteoporosis was subsequently developed using identified potential predictors. RESULTS This study included 343 females and 113 males with a mean age of 76.9 ± 11.0 years. One hundred and twenty-one patients (26.5%) were diagnosed with secondary osteoporosis. Vitamin D deficiency (71.9%) was the most common cause of secondary osteoporosis, followed by glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis (23.9%) and primary hyperparathyroidism (9.9%). The potential predictors for secondary osteoporosis included in the predictive model were age, body mass index (BMI), corrected calcium, phosphate, thyroid stimulating hormone, and a 10-year probability of hip fractures calculated by BMI-based FRAX®. With a cut-off level of 0.22, the proposed predictive model has an AuROC of 0.75 (95% CI 0.69 to 0.81) with a sensitivity of 77%, a specificity of 66%, and an accuracy of 68.9%. CONCLUSION A predictive model for screening secondary osteoporosis was constructed using simple clinical and biochemical parameters. This newly developed predictive model may provide clinicians with guidance to perform further advanced investigations for secondary causes of osteoporosis.

Abstract
Introduction The Boston Carpal Tunnel Questionnaire (BCTQ) is a widely recommended patient-reported outcome measure to evaluate symptoms and functions in carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) patients. We aimed to evaluate the translation and cross-cultural adaptation of the Thai version of the BCTQ (Thai BCTQ) and to investigate the psychometric properties including internal consistency, test-retest reliability, construct validity and responsiveness. Methods The Thai BCTQ was field tested with 15 healthy volunteers and 15 CTS patients to evaluate the item-objective congruence of each item. Following that, one hundred and twenty-four CTS patients were included for psychometric evaluation in this study. Internal consistency was assessed using Cronbach's alpha. Test-retest reliability was examined using the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC). To evaluate construct validity, Spearman's rank correlation of the symptom severity scale (Thai BCTQ -S), the functional status scale (Thai BCTQ -F) and the subscales of the Thai MHQ were analyzed. Responsiveness was determined using the standardized response mean (SRM). Results Minor modification of the Thai version was made to better explain the term "tingling". The Thai BCTQ-S, Thai BCTQ-F and Thai BCTQ demonstrated adequate Cronbach's alpha values (0.91-0.94) and good test-retest reliability (ICC=0.89-0.98). Regarding related dimensions, a strong correlation (r=0.67, P<0.008) was found between the Thai BCTQ-F and the Function subscale of Thai MHQ as well as between Thai BCTQ-F and the Activities of Daily Living subscale of the Thai MHQ (r=0.75, P<0.008). In unrelated dimensions, there was a relatively weak correlation between the Thai BCTQ-S and the Aesthetics subscale of the Thai MHQ (r=0.32, P=0.0116). The SRM of the Thai BCTQ was 1.46, indicating large responsiveness. Discussion The Thai BCTQ has adequate internal consistency in both the symptom and function scales as well as good construct validity and test-retest reliability indicating it is suitable for evaluating Thai CTS patients. This tool also has a high ability to detect clinically significant changes in symptoms and function over time after receiving conservative or surgical treatment.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) is the most common entrapment mononeuropathy. Menopausal status and/or estrogen level may play a role in CTS. The evidence regarding the association between hormone replacement therapy (HRT) in postmenopausal women and CTS is still conflicting. This meta-analysis aimed to investigate the association between carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) and women using hormone replacement therapy (HRT). METHODS A search was conducted in the PubMed/Medline, Scopus, Embase, and Cochrane databases, from their inception through July 2022. Studies which reported on the association between any type of HRT use and the risk of developing CTS in postmenopausal women compared to a control group were included. Studies which did not include a control group were excluded. Of the 1573 articles extracted from database searches, seven studies involving 270,764 women were included of which 10,746 had CTS. The association between CTS and HRT use was evaluated using the pooled odds ratio (OR) with a 95% confidence interval (CI) under random-effects modelling. Risk of bias in each study was assessed using the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale (NOS) and version 2 of the Cochrane tool for assessing risk of bias in randomized trials (RoB 2). RESULTS HRT use showed no statistically significant association with a higher risk of CTS with pooled odds ratio (OR) 1.49, 95% confidence interval (CI) 0.99-2.23, and p = 0.06, although high heterogeneity among the studies was observed (I2 97.0%, Q-test p-value < 0.001). Subgroup analysis of groups in non-randomized controlled studies showed a significantly increased risk of CTS, while groups in randomized controlled studies showed a decreased risk of CTS (pooled OR 1.87, 95% CI 1.24-2.83 versus pooled OR 0.79, 95% CI 0.69-0.92, respectively) with the p-value of group difference < 0.001. The risk of bias in most of the included studies was estimated to be low. CONCLUSIONS This meta-analysis supports the safety of using HRT in postmenopausal women with potential risk factors for CTS. Abstract
INTRODUCTION Recurrent trigger finger after surgery is one of the major adverse events. However, studies to identify factors associated with recurrence after open surgical release in adult trigger finger patients are still limited. PURPOSE To identify factors associated with recurrent trigger finger after open surgical release. METHODS This 12-year retrospective observational study included 723 patients with 841 trigger fingers who underwent open A1 pulley release. Patients were categorized into 2 groups: those with recurrent trigger finger after surgery and those without. Associations between potential predictors including age, sex, duration of symptoms, occupation status, active smoker status, number of steroid injections before surgery, and types of comorbidities and the outcome of interest, recurrence of trigger finger, were examined using univariable and multivariable analyses. The results are presented as hazard ratios (HR) with a 95% confidence interval (95% CI). RESULTS The recurrence rate after trigger finger release was 2.39% (20 of 841 fingers). After adjusting for confounders, more than 3 steroid injections before surgery and manual labor were the independent predictors of recurrent trigger finger (HR = 4.87, 95%CI = 1.06-22.35 and HR = 3.43, 95%CI = 1.15-10.23, respectively). CONCLUSIONS More than 3 steroid injections before surgery and manual labor increase the risk of recurrent trigger finger after an open A1 pulley release. There may be limited benefit in administering a fourth steroid injection.

Abstract
Prolonged length of stay (LOS) in osteoporotic femoral neck fracture patients increased the hospital care cost and demonstrated in-hospital complications. This study aimed to develop an ease-of use predictive model of prolonged LOS in osteoporotic femoral neck fracture patients. In this 5-year retrospective study, the medical charts of 255 patients admitted to hospital with an osteoporotic femoral neck fracture resulting from a simple fall from January 2014 to December 2018 were reviewed. Multivariable fractional polynomials (MFP) algorithms was applied to develop the predictive model from candidate predictors of prolonged LOS. The discrimination performance of predictive model was evaluated using the receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC). Internal validity was assessed using bootstrapping. From 289 patients who were hospitalized with an osteoporotic fracture of femoral neck throughout this study, 255 (88%) fulfilled the inclusion criteria. There was 54.90% (140 of 255 patients) of patients who had prolonged LOS. The predictors of the predictive model were age, BMI, ASA score class 3 or 4, arthroplasty and time from injury to surgery. The area under ROC curve of the model was 0.83 (95% confidence interval 0.77-0.88). Internal validation with bootstrap re-sampling revealed an optimism of -0.002 (range -0.300-0.296) with an estimated shrinkage factor of 0.907 for the predictive model. The current predictive model developed from preoperative predictors which had a good discriminative ability to differentiate between length of hospitalization less than 14 days and prolonged LOS in osteoporotic femoral neck patients. This model can be applied as ease-of use calculator application to help patients, their families and clinicians make appropriate decisions in terms of treatment planning, postoperative care program, and cost-effectiveness before patients receiving the definitive treatments.

Abstract
The effect of sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitors (SGLT2i) on plasma aldosterone concentration (PAC) and plasma renin activity (PRA) levels are still inconclusive. This meta-analysis aimed to demonstrate the changes in PAC and PRA levels after the use of SGLT2i in type 2 diabetes patients. A search for relevant publications was performed using PubMed/Medline, Scopus, Cochrane, and Embase databases from their inception through May 2022. Inclusion criteria were studies that contained data on crude PAC and PRA levels before and after the use of SGLT2i in adult type 2 diabetes patients. Standardized mean difference (SMD) with a 95% confidence interval (95% CI) was calculated. Data was separately analyzed by study design: randomized controlled study (RCT) and non-randomized controlled study (non-RCT). Ten studies involving 380 patients were included with two RCT and eight non-RCT. Serum PAC levels showed no significant change after the use of SGLT2i in both RCT and non-RCT. Significantly higher PRA levels were observed after the use of SGLT2i in both RCT and non-RCT with SMD of 0.40 ng/mL/hr; 95% CI (0.06, 0.74) and SMD of 0.36 ng/mL/hr; 95%CI (0.17, 0.55), respectively. Subgroup analysis found significantly higher PRA levels after the use of SGLT2i (SMD 0.45 ng/mL/hr; 95% CI (0.18, 0.71)) only in subgroups that used for three months or less. The use of SGLT2i in diabetes mellitus type 2 patients can affect PRA levels, especially during short-term use. PRA levels should be interpreted with caution in this population.

Abstract
Background: Thyroid hormone and cortisol levels can change during a course of illness. Our study was conducted to assess the ability of the level of these hormones to predict mortality among intensive care unit (ICU) patients. The added predictive value of these hormones with APACHE II scores was also evaluated. Methods: Thyroid hormones and random cortisol levels in adult ICU patients were collected on admission. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was used to assess the relationship between hormone levels and mortality. The added value of the mortality predictive ability was determined by area under the receiver operating characteristic (AuROC). Results: A total of 189 patients were included in the study. Free T3 and serum random cortisol levels were statistically significantly related to ICU mortality with OR 0.51 (0.28, 0.97), p = 0.047 and OR 1.02 (1.01, 1.04), p < 0.002, respectively. Free T3 and serum random cortisol significantly enhanced the predictive performance of APACHE II scores with an AuROC of 0.656 (non-added value model) versus 0.729 (added value model), p = 0.009. The scoring system was created with a total score that ranged from 1 to 14. A score above 7.0 indicated a high mortality rate with a sensitivity of 81.5% and a specificity of 33%. Conclusions: Serum free T3 and cortisol levels are significantly associated with ICU mortality and can enhance the ability of APACHE II scores to predict ICU mortality.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The data on lipid profile differences between primary aldosteronism (PA) and essential hypertension (EH) patients are inconsistent and inconclusive. Most studies reported lower levels of lipid profiles in PA than in EH. This meta-analysis aimed to explore differences in serum lipid profiles including triglyceride (TG), total cholesterol (TC), LDL and HDL levels in PA patients and EH patients. METHODS A search of published studies was performed using PubMed, Embase and Scopus databases from their inception through August 2022. Thirty studies involving 11,175 patients were identified. Inclusion criteria included 1) observational studies which contained data on any of the lipid profiles of interest (TG, TC, LDL and HDL) which could be acquired from baseline data or the outcomes, 2) data which should be compared between adult PA and EH patients and 3) the use of appropriate methods to diagnose PA. Standardized mean difference (SMD) with a 95% confidence interval (95% CI) was calculated to assess effect size by using STATA program version 15.0. Risk of bias was assessed by Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) Critical Appraisal Tools for cross-sectional, cohort and case-control studies. RESULTS Levels of the lipid parameters TG (SMD - 0.16 mmol/L; 95%CI (- 0.25, - 0.07)), TC (SMD - 0.30 mmol/L; 95%CI (- 0.41, - 0.19)) and LDL (SMD - 0.17 mmol/L; 95%CI (- 0.27, - 0.08)) were significantly lower in PA than in EH patients. There was no statistically significant difference in HDL between PA and EH patients (SMD - 0.08 mmol/L; 96%CI (- 0.23,0.07)). High levels of heterogeneity for TG, TC, HDL and LDL were observed in all studies. Risk of bias among the studies was low to moderate. CONCLUSION Lower levels of TG, TC and LDL were observed in PA than in EH patients. Further study should be conducted to address the underlying mechanisms of lipid alteration in PA.

Abstract
Background
Primary aldosteronism (PA) is the most common cause of secondary hypertension. The diagnosis of PA currently requires multiple complicated measures. The aims of this study were to identify easy-to-obtain clinical and biochemical predictors, and to create predictive model to facilitate the identification of a patient at high risk of having PA.
Materials and methods
This 2-year retrospective cohort study was conducted at a tertiary care medical center. A total of 305 patients who had been tested for plasma aldosterone concentration (PAC) and plasma renin activity (PRA) were identified. Patients with incomplete results of PAC and PRA and those who had an established diagnosis of Cushing’s syndrome or pheochromocytoma were excluded. Logistic regression analysis was used to identify significant predictors and to create predictive model of PA.
Results
PA was diagnosed in 128 of the patients (41.96%). Significant predictive factors for PA were age >60 years (OR 2.12, p = 0.045), female (OR 1.65, p<0.001), smoking (OR 2.79, p<0.001), coronary artery disease (OR 2.29, p<0.001), obstructive sleep apnea (OR 1.50, p = 0.017), systolic blood pressure >160 mmHg (OR 1.15, P<0.001), serum potassium <3 mEq/L (OR 3.72, p = 0.030), fasting blood glucose >126 mg/dL (OR 0.48, p = 0.001) and estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) <60 mL/min/1.73m2 (OR 1.79, p = 0.001). Predictive model was created with a total score ranged from 0 to 42. A score above 7.5 indicated a higher probability of having PA with a sensitivity of 72% and a specificity of 70%. The diagnostic performance of the predictive model based on area under the curve was 71%.
Conclusions
The clinical and biochemical predictive factors including predictive model identified in this study can be employed as an additional tool to help identify patients at risk of having PA and could help reduce the number of screening and confirmation tests required for PA.

Abstract
Trial design The prospective randomized controlled trial. Background This study compares outcomes in terms of early postoperative anterior wrist pain and time to return to work or activities of daily living of patients who underwent carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) release with short incision and those who had minimally invasive surgery (MIS) with CTS kits. Methods A total of 24 patients diagnosed with primary CTS confirmed with electrodiagnosis at an academic university hospital were randomly assigned into one of two groups of 12 patients each: a short incision group and an MIS with tool-kit group using computer-generated block randomization (block of four). Sequentially numbered, opaque, sealed envelopes were used in the allocation concealment process. In the short incision group, skin was incised longitudinally from Kaplan’s line to the area distal to transverse wrist crease (2.5–4.0 cm) while in the tool-kit group, an incision of less than 2.5 cm. was made using special MIS-CTS kits. Primary outcomes evaluated include visual analogue scale (VAS) measurement of pain intensity in the anterior carpal area both while at rest and while conducting daily activities at the 2nd week postoperatively as well as the time to return to activities of daily living and work. Improvement in the Michigan hand questionnaire (MHQ) score, a secondary outcome, was also measured at the 2nd week postoperatively. Patients, allocator and outcome assessor were blinded. Results Demographic data, including preoperative electrodiagnostic severity and occupation, were similar in the two groups. There were no significant differences in terms of VAS of the early postoperative anterior carpal area at rest (p > 0.99), while conducting daily activities (p = 0.89) and time to return to activities of daily living (p = 0.46) and work (p = 0.24). The MHQ score improvement at the 2nd week postoperatively showed no significant difference between the groups (p = 0.95). The MIS wound length in the tool-kit group was significantly shorter than in the short incision group (1.95 vs 2.92 cm, p < 0.01). Conclusions There is no difference in early postoperative anterior wrist pain, time to return to work or to activities of daily living between the surgical techniques. Short incision is recommended for benefit in term of cost-effectiveness, while MIS with tool-kit could be preferred in patients who concerned in cosmetic appearance between the surgical techniques. Abstract
Background and Objectives: There is a lack of data regarding hormonal metabolic abnormalities resulting from the R-CHOP regimen (rituximab, cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin, vincristine, prednisolone), a commonly used chemotherapy in diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL). This study aimed to determine the incidence of hormonal and metabolic changes after R-CHOP therapy. Methods and Methods: This prospective cohort study initially included 17 DLBCL patients. Hormonal tests, including gonadal function, thyroid function, and ACTH stimulation tests for cortisol and metabolic markers, were performed before the 1st and after the 5th cycle of R-CHOP. The paired t-test was used to evaluate the changes. Statistical significance was set at p < 0.05. Results: Out of 17 patients, two died before the last follow-up, and 15 completed the study. LH levels were significantly higher in males after the 5th cycle (p = 0.04), while no significant changes were observed in other hormonal levels. After the 5th cycle, the only trend toward statistical significance was observed with higher FSH in males, higher blood glucose, and cholesterol. After the 5th cycle of chemotherapy, seven patients had at least one hormonal dysfunction, three patients had alterations in their thyroid function tests. Three patients had adrenal insufficiency (AI), one of whom also had secondary hypothyroidism concomitant with hypogonadism and AI. Additionally, two males had hypogonadism, and impaired fasting glucose was observed in three patients. Conclusions: Hormonal and metabolic abnormalities can occur in DLBCL after the 5th R-CHOP cycle. A high level of awareness and careful observation is of value in detecting these abnormalities, as some can be lethal.

Abstract
Background and Objectives: Adrenal incidentaloma is an adrenal mass that is found incidentally in abdominal imaging studies. It is important to categorize whether the mass is a functioning or non-functioning incidentaloma to determine the appropriate management and follow-up. Our study aimed to identify predictive factors for functioning adrenal incidentaloma that could assist in early detection and in determining which patients may require hormonal investigations. Materials and methods: This 15-year retrospective study was performed in a tertiary care medical center. A total of 244 patients with adrenal incidentaloma were identified, of whom 88 had functioning adrenal incidentaloma. The patients’ clinical biochemical factors and radiographic parameters were reviewed. Multivariable analysis using logistic regression with backward stepwise selection analysis was performed. Results are presented as odds ratios (ORs) with 95% confidence interval (CI). Statistical significance was set at p < 0.05. Results: A significant clinical predictor for functioning adrenal incidentaloma is a history of hypertension (OR 2.72, 95% CI(1.53, 4.82)), while significant radiological predictors include mass size >4 cm (OR 2.20, 95% CI(1.20, 4.02)) and Hounsfield units (HU) < 10 (OR 2.47, 95% CI(1.23, 4.94)). Conclusions: These easy-to-obtain clinical and radiological predictors can be used to help identify functioning adrenal incidentaloma. In clinical practice, taking these factors into consideration could potentially reduce the number of investigations required to diagnose functioning adrenal incidentaloma.

Abstract
Background The relationship of glycemic abnormalities between primary aldosteronism (PA) patients and essential hypertension (EH) patients is still debatable. This meta-analysis aimed to explore differences in the prevalence of glycemic abnormalities and levels of abnormal glucose metabolism in PA and EH patients. Methods A search was performed using PubMed, Scopus, Cochrane and Web of Science databases from their inception through January 2022. Inclusion criteria for this study were 1) observational studies which contained specific data of interest, 2) studies including data which compared adult PA and EH patients and 3) studies which used appropriate methods to diagnose PA. Risk ratio (RR) or standardized mean difference (SMD) with a 95% confidence interval (95% CI) was calculated. Results Twenty-six studies involving 53,186 patients were included in the meta-analysis. Patients with PA demonstrated significantly higher overall incidence of glycemic abnormalities than patients with EH [RR 1.54; 95% CI (1.20,1.98)]. Risk of diabetes mellitus (DM) and impaired glucose tolerance (IGT) in PA patients were higher than in EH patients [RR 1.27; 95%CI (1.08, 1.49) and RR 2.99; 95%CI (1.74, 5.16), respectively]. There was no statistically significant difference of risk between these groups for impaired fasting glucose (IFG) [RR 1.70; 95%CI (0.55, 5.26)]. Moderate heterogeneity was observed in overall glycemic abnormalities outcomes. A high level of heterogeneity was observed for IFG, while the level was low for DM and IGT. Conclusions PA patients have a higher risk of glycemic abnormalities than in EH patients. Further study should be conducted to investigate underlying mechanisms of glycemic abnormalities in PA. Abstract
Purpose Osteoporotic hip fracture surgery is associated with a risk of morbidity and mortality. Admission hemoglobin levels <10 g/dL have been documented as a strong predictor of mortality risk. This study aimed to investigate the mortality outcome between osteoporotic hip fracture patients who had preoperative hemoglobin levels raised to ≥10 g/dL and those with hemoglobin levels were <10 g/dL. Patients and Methods This 5-year retrospective observational study included 226 participants with osteoporotic hip fractures that required surgery and who had admission hemoglobin levels <10 g/dL. Patients were categorized into two groups: those with corrected preoperative hemoglobin ≥10 g/dL and those with either corrected or uncorrected preoperative hemoglobin <10 g/dL. Outcomes were analyzed using Cox proportional hazard regression adjusted for confounders. Results are presented as hazard ratio (HR) and 95% confidence interval (95% CI). Results Among 226 the patients, the overall mortality rate was 17.25% (n=39/226) of the 226 patients, 93 (41.15%) had their hemoglobin levels raised to ≥10 g/dL by red blood cell transfusion. Multivariable analysis after adjustment for confounders showed a 50% lower incidence of mortality among patients with preoperative hemoglobin levels ≥10 g/dL than among those with hemoglobin levels <10 g/dL (HR 0.50, 95% CI (0.25–0.99), p=0.048). Conclusion In osteoporotic hip fracture patients with admission hemoglobin <10g/dL, raising preoperative hemoglobin levels to ≥10 g/dL can significantly reduce the risk of mortality. Testing for and correction of low preoperative hemoglobin levels is of value in hip surgery patients.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Unilateral adrenalectomy is the mainstay treatment for unilateral primary aldosteronism (PA). This meta-analysis aimed to systematically analyse predictors of clinical success after unilateral adrenalectomy in PA. METHODS A search was performed using PubMed/Medline, Scopus, Embase and Web of Science from their inception to February 2022. Observational studies in adult PA patients which reported predictors of clinical success after unilateral adrenalectomy were included. A random-effects model was employed to pool the fully adjusted odds ratio (OR) or standardized mean difference (SMD) with 95% confidence interval (95% CI). RESULTS Thirty-two studies involving 5,601 patients were included. Females had a higher clinical success rate (OR 2.81; 95% CI 2.06-3.83). Older patients, patients with a longer duration of hypertension and those taking a higher number of antihypertensive medications had lower clinical success rates (OR 0.97; 95% CI 0.94-0.99, OR 0.92; 95% CI 0.88-0.96 and OR 0.44; 95% CI 0.29-0.67, respectively). Compared to non-clinical success cases, patients with clinical success had a lower body mass index (SMD -0.49 kg/m2; 95% CI -0.58,-0.39), lower systolic (SMD -0.37 mmHg; 95% CI -0.56,-0.18) and diastolic blood pressure (SMD -0.19 mmHg; 95% CI -0.33,-0.06), lower serum potassium (SMD -0.16 mEq/L; 95% CI -0.28,-0.04), higher eGFR (SMD 0.51 mL/min/1.73m2; 95% CI 0.16,0.87), a lower incidence of dyslipidemia (OR 0.29; 95% CI 0.15-0.58) and a lower incidence of diabetes mellitus (OR 0.36; 95% CI 0.22-0.59). CONCLUSIONS Multiple predictors of clinical success after unilateral adrenalectomy in PA were identified which can help improve the quality of care for PA patients. Abstract
The concomitant occurrence of diabetes mellitus and cardiomyopathy secondary to occult malignant pheochromocytoma has rarely been reported. This case report describes the case of a 48-year-old female with a previous history of diabetes mellitus, hypertension, and cardiomyopathy who presented with fatigue and significant weight loss. Neither typical symptoms of pheochromocytoma nor metastatic symptoms were presented. Pheochromocytoma with extension to the liver was incidentally found from computed tomography of the abdomen and laboratory investigations during the work-up to identify the cause for the weight loss. Right adrenalectomy and a right hepatectomy were performed. Malignant pheochromocytoma was diagnosed based on pathology. All of her underlying conditions including diabetes mellitus, hypertension, and cardiomyopathy, were improved following the complete resection of the tumor. This case emphasizes the importance of early suspicion and diagnosis of malignant pheochromocytoma in individuals with atypical presentation of a chromaffin-secreting tumor.

Abstract
Purpose This study aimed to identify predictive factors and to develop a predictive model for adrenal insufficiency (AI) related to topical corticosteroids use. Methods The research was conducted using a cross-sectional design. Adult patients with dermatological conditions who had been prescribed topical steroids for at least 12 months by the dermatology outpatient departments of the Faculty of Medicine, Chiang Mai University from June through October 2020 were included. Data on potential predictors, including baseline characteristics and laboratory investigations, were collected. The diagnoses of AI were based on serum 8AM cortisol and low-dose ACTH stimulation tests. Multivariable logistic regression was used for the derivation of the diagnostic score. Results Of the 42 patients, 17 (40.5%) had AI. The statistically significant predictive factors for AI were greater body surface area of corticosteroids use, age <60 years, and basal serum cortisol <7 µg/dL. In the final predictive model, duration of treatment was added as a factor based on its clinical significance for AI. The four predictive factors with their assigned scores were: body surface area involvement 10–30% (20), >30% (25); age <60 years old (15); basal serum cortisol of <7 µg/dL (30); and duration of treatment in years. Risk of AI was categorized into three groups, low, intermediate and high risk, with total scores of <25, 25–49 and ≥50, respectively. The predictive performance for the model was 0.92 based on area under the curve. Conclusion The predictive model for AI in patients using topical corticosteroids provides guidance on the risk of AI to determine which patients should have dynamic ACTH stimulation tests (high risk) and which need only close follow-up (intermediate and low risk). Future validation of the model is warranted.

Abstract
Predictive post-hip fracture mortality models have been presented for specific time points (in-hospital, 30-days or 1-year) and most provide marginal predictions based on the patient's risk group. However, the predictive model for individual survival probability following hip fracture is not available. This study aimed to develop a flexible parametric model for predicting individual survival probability for hip fracture patients. In this retrospective study, the medical charts of 765 Thai patients admitted to hospital with a hip fracture resulting from low-impact injury from January 2014 to December 2018 were reviewed. Predictors for all-cause mortality were identified using flexible parametric survival analysis and were used to develop the predictive model. The model was calibrated using a calibration graph and discrimination performance was evaluated using the C-statistic. Internal validity was assessed using bootstrapping. The overall mortality rate of the hip fracture patients was 14%. Predictors significantly associated with survival after hip fracture were age, active malignancy, dementia or Alzheimer's disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder, diabetes mellitus, hemoglobin concentration, eGFR<30 mL/min/1.73m2 and operative treatments. The model-predicted survival was similar to that actually observed in the very low survival group in the first year after hip fracture. In bootstrapping, the apparent C-statistic and the test C-statistic of the reduced model were 0.79 (95% CI 0.77-0.81) and 0.79 (95% CI 0.78-0.80), respectively. The flexible survival model provides good predictive power for individual survival probability at any given time point within the first year after hip fracture and would be an easy to use tool in clinical practice.

Abstract
PURPOSE To translate the Patient-Rated Wrist/Hand Evaluation (PRWHE) which is widely used as the evaluation in healthcare and research system in wrist/hand disorder patients into Thai (Thai PRWHE) and to examine its psychometric properties. METHODS The PRWHE was translated to Thai, including cross-cultural adaptations, following standard guidelines. Psychometric properties were evaluated with 292 wrist/hand musculoskeletal disorder patients. Internal consistency was assessed using Cronbach's alpha. Intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) was used to determine test-retest reliability over a 7-day interval. Construct validity was evaluated using two methods: Spearman's rank correlation of related and unrelated subscales and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). Responsiveness was analyzed using the standardized response mean (SRM). RESULTS All subscales had high Cronbach's alpha (0.91-0.96). Evaluation of the Pain subscale found good correlations with the Thai PRWHE and the Thai version of disabilities of the arm, shoulder, and hand (Thai DASH) questionnaire (r = 0.55, P < 0.0001) in related dimensions. Unrelated dimensions, the Total Function subscale of the Thai PRWHE, and the Mobility subscale of the Thai EQ-5D-5L had a weak correlation (r = 0.09, P < 0.12). Comparison of the one-factor solution and the bifactor model found the first-order three-factor solution fitted the data better than other models. The test-retest reliability with 61 patients in each subscale revealed excellent reliability (ICC = 0.94-0.96). In the assessment of responsiveness, the SRM with 54 patients was large (0.94). CONCLUSIONS The Thai PRWHE has excellent internal consistency in all modules and good construct validity and reliability for Thai patients and provides a large standardized response mean after treatment.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Excess aldosterone has been shown to be associated with obesity; however, there is currently a lack of data regarding the relationship between percentage of body fat and primary aldosteronism (PA), particularly pertaining to Asian populations. Furthermore, essential hypertension may mimic the condition of PA and there needs to be differentiation between the two. This study aimed to assess the association between percentage of body fat and PA. METHODS A cross-sectional study was conducted in the outpatient department of the Endocrine and Metabolism Unit of the tertiary care medical center in Thailand. Data was obtained from 79 patients who had been screened for PA due to hypertension in young-onset, hypokalemia, adrenal incidentaloma or resistance hypertension. Essential hypertension was defined as patients who had high blood pressure and were negative for PA screening. Body fat percentage was assessed by bioelectrical impedance analysis. The relationship between percentage of body fat and a diagnosis of PA was assessed using logistic regression analysis, including adjustment for confounding factors. RESULTS The participants were divided into a PA group (n = 41) and an essential hypertension group (n = 38). After controlling for confounding variables (age, sex, body mass index, cholesterol and insulin resistance status), the odds ratio of having PA in males with a percentage of body fat > 25% and females with percentage > 30% was 1.82 (95%CI = 1.79-1.86, p < 0.001). CONCLUSION A higher percentage of body fat is associated with an increased risk of PA. Further studies need to be conducted to confirm the relationship between body fat percentage and PA.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To evaluate the anti-ageing activity of cream containing the methanolic purple glutinous rice extract loaded in niosomes. METHODS The in vitro biological activities of the purple glutinous rice extracted by methanol maceration were determined. The extract loaded in niosomes and the cream containing the niosomes were developed. The in vivo anti-ageing activity in 20 human volunteers including skin hydration, pigmentation, roughness and elasticity after daily application for 28 days compared to at initial was evaluated by Corneometer, Mexameter, Visiometer and Cutometer, respectively. RESULTS The purple glutinous rice extract showed free radical scavenging (SC50 ), lipid peroxidation inhibition (IPC50 ), metal ion chelating (CC50 ) and tyrosinase inhibition (IC50 ) values at 32.31 ± 1.28, 57.40 ± 2.12, 85.05 ± 5.43 and 43.89 ± 2.14 mg/mL which were 0.00031, 0.011, 0.0078 and 0.0016 times of the standards (0.01 ± 0.00, 0.62 ± 0.14, 0.66 ± 0.05 and 0.07 ± 0.01), respectively. The purple glutinous rice extract contained 0.35 µg of anthocyanin/1 mg of the extract determined by HPLC. After loaded in niosomes, the solubility of the extract was not only increased in various solvents, but also the chemical stability in different environments (weak base, reducing agent and acid salt) was improved. The cream formulation containing niosomes loaded with 1%w/v of the purple glutinous rice extract indicated the anthocyanin remaining percentages after 6 cycles of heating and cooling test at 52.28% of the initial. For in vivo anti-ageing activities, cream containing niosomes loaded with the extract gave significant decreased melanin index and skin roughness reduction of -14.05 and -9.95% of the initial, respectively. The % changes of the increased skin hydration, skin elastic extension and skin elastic recovery when applied on human volunteers' skin with this formulation were +48.73, -24.51 and +35.98%, respectively. CONCLUSION The cream containing niosomes loaded with the 1%w/v methanolic purple glutinous rice extract gave not only the suitable in vitro antioxidant activity and physical stability of the active anthocyanin, but also the superior in vivo anti-ageing activity on human skin compared to the cream base and before application which can be further developed as a novel anti-ageing cosmeceutical product.

Abstract
Background The Michigan Hand Questionnaire (MHQ) is widely used to assess the hand/wrist conditions. We translated the original version into Thai (Thai MHQ) and evaluated its psychometric properties. Methods After receiving permission, the original MHQ was translated and cross-culturally adapted to Thai following standard guidelines. Two hundred and seventeen patients who had hand/wrist injuries or disorders were included in the study. Internal consistency was evaluated using Cronbach’s alpha. Test-retest reliability was analyzed using the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC). Spearman’s rank correlation among the subscales of Thai MHQ, Thai DASH and Thai EQ-5D-5L and also confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) were used to explore construct validity. The standardized response mean (SRM) was used to evaluate the responsiveness of the Thai MHQ. Results All subscales showed an acceptable Cronbach’s alpha (0.79–0.98). The test-retest reliability of each subscale was good (ICC = 0.83–0.95). In related dimensions, strong correlation was demonstrated between the Activities of daily living subscale of the Thai MHQ and the Common activities subscale in the Thai DASH (r = 0.77, P < 0.0001). For unrelated dimensions, a weak correlation was found between the Aesthetics subscale in the Thai MHQ and the Mobility subscale in the Thai EQ-5D-5L (r = − 0.13, P = 0.05). The Thai MHQ had strong correlation with Thai DASH (r = − 0.79, P < 0.0001) and Thai EQ-5D-5L (r = 0.63, P < 0.0001). CFA showed that the 6-factor model demonstrated an acceptable fit to the data. The SRM of the Thai MHQ was 0.78, indicating relatively large responsiveness. The MIC of Thai MHQ using distribution methods (SEM) was 5.2. Conclusions The Thai MHQ provides adequate internal consistency in all subscales as well as good construct validity and reliability for Thai patients and a relatively large standardized response mean at 2 months after treatment.

Abstract
The risk of tumours including pheochromocytoma and gastrointestinal stromal tumour (GIST) has been reported to be higher in neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) patients. The concomitant occurrence of these two tumours was rare in NF1 patient and most were symptomatic. In this case report, we describe the case of a 47-year-old man with NF1 who presented with microscopic haematuria. Neither hypertension nor any gastrointestinal symptoms were reported by the patient. While investigating for haematuria, left adrenal mass and arterial enhancing lesions in the small bowel were incidentally documented during computerised urography. The patient subsequently underwent a left adrenalectomy and small bowel resection. The pheochromocytoma and multiple GIST tumours were diagnosed based on pathology. Here, we discuss the rare association of pheochromocytoma and GIST and the asymptomatic presentation of those tumours in an NF1 patient. We further suggest that in NF1 patients a heightened level of vigilance can help identify this infrequent combination.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Adrenal insufficiency (AI) in hospitalized patients is a fatal condition if left undiagnosed. Most patients may require an adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) stimulation test to facilitate AI diagnosis. We aim to identify simple biochemical and clinical factors and derive a predictive model to help identify hospitalized patients with biochemical AI who have indeterminate 0800 h serum cortisol levels. METHODS A seven-year retrospective study was performed in a tertiary care medical center. We identified 128 inpatients who had undergone low-dose or high-dose ACTH stimulation tests. The association between biochemical AI and other factors was evaluated using a logistic regression model clustering by ACTH dose. Stepwise regression analysis was used to demonstrate the predictive model. Diagnostic performance was evaluated using ROC analysis. RESULTS Of the 128 patients, 28.1% had biochemical AI. The factors associated with biochemical AI were serum random cortisol < 10 μg/dL (OR = 8.69, p < 0.001), cholesterol < 150 mg/dL (OR = 2.64, p = 0.003), sodium < 140 mmol/L (OR = 1.73, p = 0.004)). Among clinical factors, cirrhosis (OR = 9.05, p < 0.001), Cushingoid appearance in those with exogenous steroid use (OR = 8.56, p < 0.001), and chronic kidney disease (OR = 2.21, p < 0.001) were significantly linked to biochemical AI. The AUC-ROC of the final model incorporating all factors was 83%. CONCLUSIONS These easy-to-perform biochemical tests and easy-to-assess clinical factors could help predict biochemical AI in hospitalized patients with high accuracy. The physician should therefore have a high index of suspicion to perform dynamic tests for AI diagnosis in those who meet the proposed model criteria.

Abstract
Background and Objectives: To diagnose adrenal insufficiency (AI), adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) stimulation tests may need to be performed, but those tests may not be available in some institutions. In addition, they may not be necessary for some patients. The objective of this study was to identify clinical and biochemical factors that could facilitate AI diagnosis in outpatient departments and decrease the number of unnecessary dynamic tests. Materials and Methods: This seven-year retrospective study was performed in a tertiary care medical center. A total of 517 patients who had undergone ACTH stimulation tests in the outpatient department were identified. AI was described as a peak serum cortisol level of <18 µg/dL at 30 or 60 min after stimulation. The associations between clinical factors, biochemical factors, and AI were analyzed using the Poisson regression model and reported by the risk ratio (RR). Results: AI was identified in 128 patients (24.7%). Significant predictive factors for the diagnosis of AI were chronic kidney disease (RR = 2.52, p < 0.001), Cushingoid appearance (RR = 3.44, p < 0.001), nausea and/or vomiting (RR = 1.84, p = 0.003), fatigue (RR = 1.23, p < 0.001), serum basal cortisol <9 µg/dL (RR = 3.36, p < 0.001), serum cholesterol <150 mg/dL (RR = 1.26, p < 0.001), and serum sodium <135 mEq/L (RR = 1.09, p = 0.001). The predictive ability of the model was 83% based on the area under the curve. Conclusion: The easy-to-obtain clinical and biochemical factors identified may facilitate AI diagnosis and help identify patients with suspected AI. Using these factors in clinical practice may also reduce the number of nonessential dynamic tests for AI.

Abstract
PURPOSE Optimized postoperative blood glucose control can minimize postoperative complications. Conventional perioperative glycemic control protocol (CG), which has been routinely used in our institution, lacks detailed perioperative glycemic management. A new standardized glycemic control protocol (SG) was designed which employs frequent postoperative monitoring of blood glucose, more tightly targeted blood glucose control, and adjustment of insulin dosage prior to surgery. This study compared the efficacy of postoperative glycemic control and complications with the two protocols, CG and SG. PATIENTS AND METHODS Three hundred and eighty type 2 diabetes patients who underwent elective surgeries were included in the study. Of those, 182 patients with CG were identified retrospectively as a historical control cohort. Additional 198 patients with SG were prospectively enrolled. Covariate imbalance was controlled using propensity score matching. Outcomes were evaluated using regression analysis clustered by type of surgery. RESULTS The SG group had lower mean levels of postoperative 24-hr blood glucose than the CG group (β =-8.6 mg/dL; 95% CI (-16.5 to -7.9), p=0.042). In SG group, the incidence of ICU admission and of acute kidney injury after surgery was lower than in the CG group (OR 0.36; 95% CI (0.18-0.74), p=0.005 and OR=0.59; 95% CI (0.41-0.85), p=0.005, respectively). There was no significant difference in postoperative hypoglycemia, infection, cardiovascular complications, stroke, or mortality rate between the two groups. CONCLUSION For type 2 diabetes patients undergoing elective surgery, the SG protocol is more effective in controlling blood glucose. The protocol can also reduce the incidence of some postoperative complications compared to CG with no increased risk of hypoglycemia.

Abstract
Increasingly, primary hypertension is being considered a syndrome and not a disease, with the individual causes (diseases) having a common sign-an elevated blood pressure. To determine these causes, genetic tools are increasingly employed. This review identified 62 proposed genes. However, only 21 of them met our inclusion criteria: (i) primary hypertension, (ii) two or more supporting cohorts from different publications or within a single publication or one supporting cohort with a confirmatory genetically modified animal study, and (iii) 600 or more subjects in the primary cohort; when including our exclusion criteria: (i) meta-analyses or reviews, (ii) secondary and monogenic hypertension, (iii) only hypertensive complications, (iv) genes related to blood pressure but not hypertension per se, (v) nonsupporting studies more common than supporting ones, and (vi) studies that did not perform a Bonferroni or similar multiassessment correction. These 21 genes were organized in a four-tiered structure: distant phenotype (hypertension); intermediate phenotype [salt-sensitive (18) or salt-resistant (0)]; subintermediate phenotypes under salt-sensitive hypertension [normal renin (4), low renin (8), and unclassified renin (6)]; and proximate phenotypes (specific genetically driven hypertensive subgroup). Many proximate hypertensive phenotypes had a substantial endocrine component. In conclusion, primary hypertension is a syndrome; many proposed genes are likely to be false positives; and deep phenotyping will be required to determine the utility of genetics in the treatment of hypertension. However, to date, the positive genes are associated with nearly 50% of primary hypertensives, suggesting that in the near term precise, mechanistically driven treatment and prevention strategies for the specific primary hypertension subgroups are feasible.

Abstract
The crude methanolic and hexane extracts of non-cooked, steamed and roasted from three Job's Tears cultivars were prepared and further semi-purified by liquid-liquid extraction techniques and silica gel column. The six single semi-purified extracts (F1-F6) were combined as nine cocktails (CT1, CT6, CT8, CT13, CT14, CT21, CT24, CT25 and CT31) according to the IC50 values from the preliminary study and investigated for anti-proliferative and apoptotic induction on mouth cancer cell line (KB) and immunostimulating as well as antioxidative activities. The highest anti-proliferative activity was observed in CT13 showing the IC50 value of 0.53±0.45 µg/mL which was higher than 5-fluorouracil and doxorubicin of 20.34 and 1.60 times, respectively. CT1 which was the combination of F1-F6 and CT13 which was the combination of F4-F6 exhibited significant strong synergistic activity with the combination index value (CI) of 0.28. CT1 at 200 µg/mL showed the highest percentages of apoptotic cells (40.65±10.97%) with no necrotic cells, but lower than cisplatin (100 µg/mL) of 2.18 times. CT14 gave the highest immunostimulating activity with the phagocytosis percentage of 13.0±1.7%, but lower than lipopolysaccharide of 1.08 times. CT31 gave the highest free radical scavenging and metal chelating activities with the SC50 and MC50 values of 0.73±0.07 and 1.99±0.24 µg/mL, but lower than ascorbic acid and EDTA of 18.25 and 4.33 times, respectively. The linoleic acid contents related to anti-cancer activity were also examined by HPLC. This study has demonstrated that CT1 composing of F1-F6 at the percentage ratio of 0.71:2.06:81.38: 8.47:4.92:2.46 was the potential cocktails of the semi-purified extracts from the Job's Tears which can be further developed as a novel active compound for oral cancer treatment.

Abstract
Liposomes, entrapped with Job's Tears fractions, were prepared by the supercritical carbon dioxide fluid (scCO₂) technique with and without sonication. Physical characteristics, which were the particle size, zeta potential, vesicular morphology, microviscosity and bioactivities including anti-proliferative, apoptotic and antioxidative activities of the S1L-S5L liposomal systems, were investigated. The potent anti-proliferative activity with the IC50 value of 4.44±2.31 ug/ml in a colon cancer cell (HT-29) was observed in the S5L. S5L also showed the apoptotic activity of 4.45±0.92% in an HT-29 cell. For antioxidative activities, the S3L showed the highest free radical scavenging activity and lipid peroxidation inhibition, whereas the S4L gave the highest metal chelating activity. This study has demonstrated the potent anti-proliferative activity on an HT-29 cell of the S5L liposomal formulation prepared by the scCO₂ technique which can be further developed towards a novel anticancer drug.

Abstract
The relationship between biological sex and aldosterone on blood pressure (BP) is unclear. We hypothesized that sex would modify the interaction between aldosterone and vascular responses to salt intake and angiotensin II (AngII). To test this hypothesis, in 1592 subjects from the well-controlled Hypertensive Pathotype cohort, we compared responses of women and men to chronic (BP and aldosterone levels in response to dietary salt) and acute (BP, renal plasma flow, and aldosterone responses to AngII infusion) manipulations. Women had a 30% higher salt sensitivity of BP than men (P<0.0005) regardless of age or hypertension status, a greater BP response to AngII, and a 15% greater aldosterone response to AngII on both restricted and liberal salt diets (P<0.005). Furthermore, there was an interaction (P=0.003) between sex and aldosterone on BP response to AngII. Women also had a greater (P<0.01) increment in renal plasma flow in response to AngII than men. To assess potential mechanisms for this sex effect, we compared aldosterone responses to AngII or potassium from rat zona glomerulosa cells and observed greater aldosterone production in female than male zona glomerulosa cells basally and in response to both agonists (P<0.0001). In a rodent model of aldosterone-mediated cardiovascular disease induced by increased AngII and low NO, circulating aldosterone levels (P<0.01), myocardial damage (P<0.001), and proteinuria (P<0.05) were greater in female than male rats despite having similar BP responses. Thus, increased aldosterone production likely contributes to sex differences in cardiovascular disease, suggesting that women may be more responsive to mineralocorticoid receptor blockade than men.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Recent studies have reported that radial extracorporeal shock wave therapy (rESWT) reduces pain and improves function in patients with mild to moderately severe carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) compared to a placebo. However, most of those studies used multi-session rESWT combined with wrist support and evaluation of efficacy was limited to a maximum of 14 weeks. METHODS The prospective randomized controlled trial compared efficacy in relieving pain and improving clinical function between single-dose rESWT and local corticosteroid injection (LCsI) over the mid-term (24 weeks). Twenty-five patients with mild to moderately severe CTS were randomized to receive either single-dose rESWT (n = 13) or LCsI (n = 12). Primary outcomes were evaluated using the Boston self-assessment questionnaire (BQ), while secondary outcomes used the Visual analogue scale (VAS) and electrodiagnostic parameters. Evaluations at baseline and at 1, 4, 12 and 24 weeks after treatment were performed. RESULTS There was significantly greater improvement in symptom severity scores, functional scores and Boston questionnaire scores at weeks 12 to 24 in the rESWT group compared to the LCsI group. When compared to the baseline, there was significant reduction of VAS and functional score in the rESWT group at weeks 12 and 24. The LCsI group had no statistically significant differences in VAS reduction and functional score of the same period. CONCLUSIONS Treatment of CTS using single-dose rESWT has a carry-over effect lasting up to 24 weeks suggesting that single-dose rESWT is appropriate for treatment of mild to moderate CTS and provides longer-lasting benefits than LCsI. Abstract
BACKGROUND Understanding the interactions between genetics, sodium (Na+) intake, and blood pressure (BP) will help overcome the lack of individual specificity in our current treatment of hypertension. This study had 3 goals: expand on the relationship between striatin gene (STRN) status and salt-sensitivity of BP (SSBP); evaluate the status of Na+ and volume regulating systems by striatin risk allele status; evaluate potential SSBP mechanisms. METHODS We assessed the relationship between STRN status in humans (HyperPATH cohort) and SSBP and on volume regulated systems in humans and a striatin knockout mouse (STRN+/-). RESULTS The previously identified association between a striatin risk allele and systolic SSBP was demonstrated in a new cohort (P = 0.01). The STRN-SSBP association was significant for the combined cohort (P = 0.003; β = +5.35 mm Hg systolic BP/risk allele) and in the following subgroups: normotensives, hypertensives, men, and older subjects. Additionally, we observed a lower epinephrine level in risk allele carriers (P = 0.014) and decreased adrenal medulla phenylethanolamine N-methyltransferase (PNMT) in STRN+/- mice. No significant associations were observed with other volume regulated systems. CONCLUSIONS These results support the association between a variant of striatin and SSBP and extend the findings to normotensive individuals and other subsets. In contrast to most salt-sensitive hypertensives, striatin-associated SSBP is associated with normal plasma renin activity and reduced epinephrine levels. These data provide clues to the underlying cause and a potential pathway to achieve, specific, personalized treatment, and prevention.

Abstract
Compared with persons of European descent (ED), persons of African descent (AD) have lower aldosterone (ALDO) levels, with the assumption being that the increased cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk associated with AD is not related to ALDO. However, the appropriateness of the ALDO levels for the volume status in AD is unclear. We hypothesized that, even though ALDO levels are lower in AD, they are inappropriately increased, and therefore, ALDO could mediate the increased CVD in AD. To test this hypothesis, we analyzed data from HyperPATH - 1,788 individuals from the total cohort and 765 restricted to ED-to-AD in a 2:1 match and genotyped for the endothelin-1 gene (EDN1). Linear regression analyses with adjustments were performed. In the total and restricted cohorts, PRA, ALDO, and urinary potassium levels were significantly lower in AD. However, in the AD group, greater ALDO dysregulation was present as evidenced by higher ALDO/plasma renin activity (PRA) ratios (ARR) and sodium-modulated ALDO suppression-to-stimulation indices. Furthermore, EDN1 minor allele carriers had significantly greater ARRs than noncarriers but only in the AD group. ARR levels were modulated by a significant interaction between EDN1 and AD. Thus, EDN1 variants may identify particularly susceptible ADs who will be responsive to treatment targeting ALDO-dependent pathways (e.g., mineralocorticoid-receptor antagonists).

Abstract
CONTEXT Hypertension in young women is uncommon compared with young men and older women. Estrogen appears to protect most women against hypertension, with incidence increasing after menopause. Because some premenopausal women develop hypertension, estrogen may play a different role in these women. Genetic variations in the estrogen receptor (ER) are associated with cardiovascular disease. ER-β, encoded by ESR2, is the ER predominantly expressed in vascular smooth muscle. OBJECTIVE To determine an association of single nucleotide polymorphisms in ESR2 with salt sensitivity of blood pressure (SSBP) and estrogen status in women. METHODS Candidate gene association study with ESR2 and SSBP conducted in normotensive and hypertensive women and men in two cohorts: International Hypertensive Pathotype (HyperPATH) (n = 584) (discovery) and Mexican American Hypertension-Insulin Resistance Study (n = 662) (validation). Single nucleotide polymorphisms in ESR1 (ER-α) were also analyzed. Analysis conducted in younger (<51 years, premenopausal, "estrogen-replete") and older women (≥51 years, postmenopausal, "estrogen-deplete"). Men were analyzed to control for aging. RESULTS Multivariate analyses of HyperPATH data between variants of ESR2 and SSBP documented that ESR2 rs10144225 minor (risk) allele carriers had a significantly positive association with SSBP driven by estrogen-replete women (β = +4.4 mm Hg per risk allele, P = 0.004). Findings were confirmed in Hypertension Insulin-Resistance Study premenopausal women. HyperPATH cohort analyses revealed risk allele carriers vs noncarriers had increased aldosterone/renin ratios. No associations were detected with ESR1. CONCLUSIONS The variation at rs10144225 in ESR2 was associated with SSBP in premenopausal women (estrogen-replete) and not in men or postmenopausal women (estrogen-deplete). Inappropriate aldosterone levels on a liberal salt diet may mediate the SSBP.

Abstract
Hair lotion containing methyl myristate loaded in cationic niosomes (HL-MMnio) composed of Brij72/cholesterol/DDAB at 7:3:0.65 molar ratio was developed. The remaining percentages of MM loaded in cationic niosomes in hair lotion were higher than free MM in hair lotion of about 1.2 times. The cumulative amounts in porcine skin and the receiver compartment of MM loaded in cationic niosomes incorporated in hair lotion were higher than those of free MM in hair lotion of 1.45 and 1.32 times, respectively. HL-MMnio showed very slightly irritation on rabbit skin, which was disappeared after 4 d. For melanogenesis induction in C57BL/6 mice with aged-induced grey body coat hairs, the highest pigmentation scores of HL-MMnio applied on the dorsal area were observed after 21 days, while hair lotion containing the free MM indicated after 35 days. This study has suggested that HL-MMnio was the high potential formulation for canities treatment.

Abstract
ETHONOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCES Job's tears (Coix lacryma-jobi Linn.) is commonly used as an herbal medicine. The low incidence of cancer has been observed in the area of China where regularly consume Job's tears. The effects of preparation methods of Job's tears on anti-cancer activities were investigated. Potent in vitro anti-proliferative, apoptotic and anti-oxidative activities of semi-purified Job's tears extracts from different preparation methods on 5 human cancer cell lines comparing with standards and commercial product were observed. AIM OF STUDY To study the anti-proliferative, apoptotic and anti-oxidative activities of semi-purified Job's tear extracts from different preparation methods on 5 human cancer cell lines. MATERIALS AND METHODS The crude methanolic extracts of non-cooked, steamed and roasted Job's tears cultivars were prepared and further semi-purified by liquid-liquid extraction techniques. Both of crude and semi-purified extracts were tested for anti-proliferative, apoptotic induction, anti-oxidative activities and phytochemicals content. RESULTS The highest yields of crude and-purified extracts were 4.60% and 1.46%, respectively. In crude extracts, the steamed whole Thai Black Loei Job's tears (W-TBL-S1) extract showed the highest anti-proliferative activity in mouth epidermal carcinoma cell (KB) at the IC50 of 43.61±0.76μg/ml (0.005 folds of doxorubicin), whereas the roasted whole Laos White Loei Job's tears (W-LWL-R2) extract showed the highest apoptotic activity in cervical adenocarcinoma (HeLa) at 21.52±1.50% (0.22 and 15.05 folds of doxorubicin and commercial product, respectively). After liquid-liquid extraction, almost all of the semi-purified extracts showed increases in anti-proliferative activity. Ethyl acetate fraction of the roasted whole Laos White Loei Job's tears (W-LWL-R2) showed the highest anti-proliferative activity in HeLa cell at the IC50 of 0.97±0.82μg/ml (7.82 and 45.39 folds of doxorubicin and crude extract, respectively) and apoptotic activity of 18.77±6.31% (0.19 folds of doxorubicin). The commercial product showed no anti-proliferative activity in all cell lines but induced apoptosis in HeLa cell at 1.43±0.34%. The butanol and hexane soluble fractions of the roasted whole of Laos White Loei Job's tears (W-LWL-R2) showed the highest free radical scavenging (SC50) and metal chelating activity (MC50) of 0.31±0.06mg/ml (0.64 folds of ascorbic acid) and 0.08±0.01mg/ml (6.37 folds of EDTA), respectively. All ethyl acetate fractions contain high content of carotenoid and tannin, whereas the hexane soluble fraction of the roasted hull of Laos Black Loei Job's tears (H-LBL-R1) showed the highest linoleic acid content of 8.09±0.74% w/w. CONCLUSIONS This study has demonstrated the potent anti-cancer activity of the semi-purified extracts from roasted Job's tears with high potential for further development to modern anti-cancer drug.

Abstract
The in vivo anticancer activity and stability of liposomes encapsulated with semi-purified Job's tear (Coix lacryma-jobi Linn.) extracts (S5L), prepared by supercritical carbon dioxide fluid technique, on human colon adenocarcinoma (HT29) xenografted mice were investigated. For the stability and the physicochemical characteristics, S5L showed a high stability of pH, good dispersibility, small particle size and stable zeta potential. Liposomes can protect linoleic acid in the extract comparing with the free S5. S5L kept at 4 °C for 3 months showed the highest linoleic acid content of 63.50%, whereas at 45 °C, the lowest linoleic acid content of 42.66% was observed. The anticancer activity and toxicity on xenografted mice were observed for 14 days. At the end of the experiment, the relative tumor volume (RTV) in the S5L-treated xenografted mice showed a significant RTV reduction. The high dose of S5 and S5L were potent with the highest inhibition of tumor growth of 48.67 and 54.75%, which was 86.94% and 97.81% of 5-fluorouracil, respectively. The apoptotic activity was shown in xenografted mice treated with S5 at medium and high dose, S5L, 5-fluorouracil and commercial product. All treated xenografted mice showed no toxic signs and symptoms, abnormality of internal organs histopathology and blood chemistry. This study has demonstrated the high physicochemical stability of liposomes encapsulated with semi-purified Job's tear extract and their potent anticancer activity on human colon adenocarcinoma xenografted model with the potential for further development to anticolon cancer drug.

Abstract
Parathyroid carcinoma is a rare etiology of primary hyperparathyroidism responsible for 0.4 to 5.2% of all primary hyperparathyroidism cases. The overt hyperparathyroid bone or renal disease with palpable neck mass, as well as severe hypercalcemia with extremely high parathyroid hormone, are clinical parameters raising the suspicionforparathyroid carcinoma. However a definite diagnosis can be confirmed only by examining the histopathology of the tumor. The curative treatment solely depends on an en bloc surgical approach. Therefore, preoperative clinical diagnosis of carcinoma is essentialfor optimal surgical planning. Thepresent study reported asymptomatic subclavian vein thrombosis andpulmonary embolism in parathyroid carcinoma, suggesting paraneoplastic syndrome of hypercoagulability in this cancer type. The presence of this paraneoplastic syndrome in a case of overt clinical hyperparathyroidism in addition to a palpable neck mass indicated the diagnosis of carcinoma preoperatively in the present patient, which led to an en bloc surgical plan. Since this paraneoplastic syndrome can be asymptomatic, the exploration ofthis syndrome by a commonly used imaging technique for parathyroid tumor localization, computerized tomography, would enable a preoperative diagnosis of cancer especially in an equivocal situation.

Abstract
CONTEXT Thai/Lanna medicinal plant recipes have been used for the treatment of several diseases including oral and cervical cancers. OBJECTIVE To investigate anti-proliferative activity on human cervical (HeLa) and oral (KB) cancer cell lines of medicinal plants selected from Thai/Lanna medicinal plant recipe database "MANOSROI III". MATERIALS AND METHODS Twenty-three methanolic plant crude extracts were tested for phytochemicals and anti-proliferative activity on HeLa and KB cell lines for 24 h by the sulforhodamine B (SRB) assay at the doses of 1 × 10(1)-1 × 10(-6 )mg/ml. The nine extracts with the concentrations giving 50% growth inhibition (GI50) lower than 100 µg/ml were further semi-purified by liquid/liquid partition in order to evaluate and enhance the anti-proliferative potency. RESULTS All extracts contained steroids/triterpenoids, but not xanthones. The methanolic extracts of Gloriosa superba L. (Colchinaceae) root and Albizia chinensis (Osbeck) Merr. (Leguminosae-Mimosoideae) wood gave the highest anti-proliferative activity on HeLa and KB cell lines with the GI50 values of 0.91 (6.0- and 0.31-fold of cisplatin and doxorubicin) and 0.16 µg/ml (28.78- and 82.29-fold of cisplatin and doxorubicin), respectively. Hexane and methanol-water fractions of G. superba exhibited the highest anti-proliferative activity on HeLa and KB cell lines with the GI50 values of 0.15 (37- and 1.9-fold of cisplatin and doxorubicin) and 0.058 µg/ml (77.45- and 221.46-fold of cisplatin and doxorubicin), respectively. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION This study has demonstrated the potential of plants selected from MANOSROI III database especially G. superba and A. chinensis for further development as anti-oral and cervical cancer agents.
