Abstract
Previous studies showed that transglutaminase (TGase) and microwaves acted synergistically to improve the functional properties of proteins. The mechanism behind this has yet to be elucidated. In this study, the phenomenon of microwaves enhancing TGase activity was experimentally validated. Molecular docking and molecular dynamics simulations revealed that moderate microwaves (105 and 108 V/m) increased the structural flexibility of TGase and promoted the orientation of the side chain carboxylate anion group on Asp255, driving the reaction forward. Also, TGase underwent partial transformation from α-helix to turns or coils at 105 and 108 V/m, exposing more residues in the active site and facilitating the binding of the substrate (CBZ-Gln-Gly) to TGase. However, 109 V/m microwaves completely destroyed the TGase structure, inactivating the enzyme. This study provides insights into the molecular mechanisms underlying the interactions between TGase and substrate subjected to microwaves, promoting the future applications of TGase and microwaves in food processing.

Abstract
Background With ageing, the elderly are facing a complex situation where multiple chronic diseases coexist. This paper aims to investigate the effect of intensity-specific physical activity on the number of multiple chronic diseases in the elderly. Methods Our data came from wave 4 of the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Survey (CHARLS), which involved 10,341 residents aged ≥ 60 years. The intensity-specific physical activity was divided into two categories: moderate-intensity physical activity (MPA) lasting ≥ 150 min/week and vigorous-intensity physical activity (VPA) lasting ≥ 75 min/week. Data on 14 types of chronic diseases were collected. Propensity score matching (PSM) with controlling nine confounding factors were used to analyse the effects of intensity-specific physical activity. Results Among 10,341 samples, 40.12% of the elderly often participated in MPA and 25.72% participated in VPA. The PSM results showed that performing 150 min/week of MPA leads to 0.0675(P<0.05) fewer multiple chronic diseases than not achieving this standard, and VPA up to 75 min/week leads to 0.0785(P<0.05) fewer multiple chronic disease than that does not meet this criterion. Additionally, VPA is more effective than MPA. Conclusion Both MPA of at least 150 min/week and VPA of at least 75 min/week can significantly reduce the number of multiple chronic diseases in elderly. Elderly people should increase their exercise intensity as much as possible while ensuring safety.

Abstract
The use of static solution-assisted laser drilling can effectively improve hole roundness, decrease taper angle, and reduce recast layer thickness and hole wall slag adhesion. However, the enormous energy of the laser will evaporate the solution to form a suspension droplet and reduce the quality and efficiency of laser drilling. To deal with this defect, the mist-blowing method was used to reduce the influence of droplets on the taper angle and recast layer. In this work, the effect of wind speed on drilling quality was examined, and laser drilling in air, water, and NaCl solution was carried out to analyse the effect of solution composition on hole wall morphology. The results showed that a speed fan with a proper wind speed that disperses the droplets formed in the processing area can significantly reduce the refraction and scattering of the laser, and the taper angle and roundness of the drilling hole were also reduced by 15.6% and improved by 2.4%, respectively, under the wind speed of 2 m/s. The hole wall morphology showed a thicker recast layer and cracking in air, while it was thinner in water and there was little or no layer in the NaCl solution in the same current. When drilling in NaCl, the taper angle and roundness of the drilling hole were reduced by 4.13% and improved by 2.11%, respectively, compared to water. Due to the mechanical effect of the laser in the NaCl solution, the impact force on the material was much greater than that in water. The solution cavitation effect, generated by the absorption of laser energy, caused an explosive impact on the molten material adhered to the surface of the hole wall. Above all, drilling in the NaCl solution with a current of 200 A and a wind speed of 2 m/s was the optimal condition for obtaining the best processing quality.

Abstract
Heavy metal-rich environments can promote the selection of metal-resistance genes (MRGs) in bacteria, often leading to the simultaneous selection of antibiotic-resistance genes (ARGs) through a process known as co-selection. To comprehensively evaluate the biological pollutants at electronic-waste (e-waste) recycling facilities, air, soil, and river samples were collected at four distinct Swiss e-waste recycling facilities and analyzed for ARGs, MRGs, mobile genetic elements (MGEs), endotoxins, and bacterial species, with correlations drawn to heavy metal occurrence. To our knowledge, the present work marks the first attempt to quantify these bio-pollutants in the air of e-waste recycling facilities, that might pose a significant health risk to workers. Although ARG and MRG's profiles varied among the different sample types, intl1 consistently exhibited high relative abundance rates, identifying it as the predominant MGE across all sample types and facilities. These findings underscore its pivol role in driving diverse bacterial adaptations to extreme heavy metal exposure by selection and dissemination of ARGs and MRGs. All air samples exhibited consistent profiles of ARGs and MRGs, with blaTEM emerging as the predominant ARG, alongside pbrT and nccA as the most prevalent MRGs. However, one facility, engaged in batteries recycling and characterized by exceptionally high concentrations of heavy metals, showcased a more diverse resistance gene profile, suggesting that bacteria in this environment required more complex resistance mechanisms to cope with extreme metal exposure. Furthermore, this study unveiled a strong association between gram-negative bacteria and ARGs and less with MRGs. Overall, this research emphasizes the critical importance of studying biological pollutants in the air of e-waste recycling facilities to inform robust safety measures and mitigate the risk of resistance gene dissemination among workers. These findings establish a solid foundation for further investigations into the complex interplay among heavy metal exposure, bacterial adaptation, and resistance patterns in such distinctive ecosystems.

Abstract
We examined the initial stages of orthographic learning in real time as literate adults learned spellings for spoken pseudowords during fMRI scanning. Participants were required to learn and store orthographic word forms because the pseudoword spellings were not uniquely predictable from sound to letter mappings. With eight learning trials per word form, we observed changes in the brain's response as learning was taking place. Accuracy was evaluated during learning, immediately after scanning, and 1 week later. We found evidence of two distinct learning systems-hippocampal and neocortical-operating during orthographic learning, consistent with the predictions of dual systems theories of learning/memory such as the complementary learning systems framework (McClelland et al., 1995). The bilateral hippocampus and the visual word form area (VWFA) showed significant BOLD response changes over learning, with the former exhibiting a rising pattern and the latter exhibiting a falling pattern. Moreover, greater BOLD signal increase in the hippocampus was associated with better postscan recall. In addition, we identified two distinct bilateral brain networks that mirrored the rising and falling patterns of the hippocampus and VWFA. Functional connectivity analysis revealed that regions within each network were internally synchronized. These novel findings highlight, for the first time, the relevance of multiple learning systems in orthographic learning and provide a paradigm that can be used to address critical gaps in our understanding of the neural bases of orthographic learning in general and orthographic word-form learning specifically.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Antidepressants, noninvasive brain stimulation (NIBS), and their combination are commonly used in routine clinical practice. Nevertheless, there is a continuous dispute regarding whether the effectiveness of NIBS in combination with antidepressants exceeds that of antidepressants alone. This meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the existing evidence and draw a definitive conclusion on this issue. METHODS We conducted a comprehensive search of five databases: Embase, PubMed, Web of Science, SinoMed, and the Cochrane Database of Randomized Controlled Trials. The search was conducted until October 6, 2023. The primary outcomes were the pre- and post-intervention depression and anxiety scores. Secondary outcomes included dropout rates, response rates, and certain levels of neurotransmitters [ 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT), dopamine (DA), and gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA)] at the end of the intervention. Subgroup, meta-regression, and sensitivity analyses were performed to explore the sources of heterogeneity. The data were analysed using R 4.2.2. RESULTS We included 18 RCTs [1357 participants; 11 studies used repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) and 7 studies used transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS)]. The follow-up duration varied from two weeks to three months. Overall, whether in combination with rTMS or tDCS, antidepressants proved more effective in alleviating depressive symptoms compared to when used as monotherapy. However, this advantage was not evident during the follow-up period. (p > 0.05). And the combination's efficacy in improving anxiety was found to be lacking. Post-treatment serum levels of 5-HT, DA, and GABA were higher in the rTMS group were higher than antidepressant medication group (p < 0.05). Furthermore, subgroup analysis results indicated that only the rTMS + antidepressant medication treatment significantly improved remission and remission rates. The meta-regression results showed that the type of antidepressant and the sex of the participants had a significant association with the depression score. CONCLUSION Combination treatment with NIBS was significantly more effective in improving depression symptoms than medication alone. rTMS combined with antidepressants appears to be more effective in improving response and remission rates. However, efficacy may be influenced by the type of medicine used in combination, and long-term efficacy data is lacking. SYSTEMATIC REVIEW REGISTRATION PROSPERO CRD42023388259.

Abstract
The preparation of waste plastics-derived catalysts is an effective strategy for the waste reclamation. However, plastic-derived material is unsuitable for wastewater purification due to its small specific surface area (SSA) and inadequate active sites (such as N/O sites). Herein, we synthesized graphene-like nanosheets using g-C3N4 as the self-sacrificing soft template and plastic as the carbon precursor. Consequently, this strategy greatly promoted the efficiencies of the emerging organic pollutants degradation with the SSA and N content of the plastic-derived biochar increasing up to 1043.4 m2/g and 17.53 at.%, respectively. In detail, 100 % sulfadiazine (SD) removal could be achieved in 180 s via the activation of peroxymonosulfate (PMS) and the catalytic activity is far higher than previous research. Mechanism experiments corroborated that such a striking performance was attributed to the generation of SO4•-, O2•- and 1O2. Meanwhile, kinds of plastic precursors, even medical waste (i.e., masks, gauze, operating caps and degreasing cotton) were also applicable. And the practical application of the plastic-derived catalyst was further demonstrated by treating pollutants in a continuous flow mode with in situ fabricated membrane. This work provides valuable insights into waste plastics processing and water pollutants removal.

Abstract
Treatment of bone defects remains crucial challenge for successful bone healing, which arouses great interests in designing and fabricating ideal biomaterials. In this regard, the present study focuses on developing a novel fluffy scaffold of poly Lactide-co-glycolide (PLGA) composites with hydroxyapatite (HA) scaffold used in bone defect repair in rabbits. This fluffy PLGA/HA composite scaffold was fabricated by using multi-electro-spinning combined with biomineralization technology. In vitro analysis of human bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) seeded onto fluffy PLGA/HA composite scaffold showed their ability to adhere, proliferate and cell viability. Transplant of fluffy PLGA/HA composite scaffold in a rabbit model showed a significant increase in mineralized tissue production compared to conventional and fluffy PLGA/HA composite scaffold. These findings are promising for fluffy PLGA/HA composite scaffolds used in bone defects.

Abstract
Aiming at the multi-attribute bilateral matching problem with unknown attribute weights under a linguistic intuitionistic fuzzy environment, a decision method based on TODIM considering satisfaction and fairness degrees is proposed. First, the theories of linguistic intuitionistic fuzzy sets and bilateral matching are given, and the multi-attribute bilateral matching problem under a linguistic intuitionistic fuzzy environment is described. To solve this problem, according to linguistic intuitionistic fuzzy preference matrices, the overall attribute dominances are calculated based on TODIM; considering group consensus, a new method is proposed to calculate attribute weights based on linguistic intuitionistic fuzzy induced ordered weighted averaging (LIFIOWA) operator; then, the overall dominances of bilateral subjects are obtained by aggregating the overall attribute dominances and attribute weights. Furthermore, the overall dominances are standardized to calculate the satisfaction degrees of bilateral subjects; the fairness degrees of bilateral subjects are calculated considering the loss attenuation coefficient. Based on satisfaction degree matrices, fairness degree matrices and bilateral matching matrices, multiple bilateral matching models are established and then solved to obtain the optimal bilateral matching scheme. Finally, an example shows the effectiveness, reliability and accuracy of the proposed method. The research results indicate the following main characteristics of the proposed method: (1) A new method for calculating the unknown attribute weights using LIFIOWA operator is proposed. (2) According to the TODIM idea, a calculation method for fairness degree considering the loss attenuation coefficient is proposed. (3) Considering satisfaction and fairness degrees, multiple bilateral matching models under a linguistic intuitionistic fuzzy environment are established.

Abstract
Brown discoloration was observed in the crust of commercial frozen steamed stuffed buns (FSSBs) during resteaming. Culture-dependent and culture-independent analyses demonstrated that Serratia marcescens, a prodigiosin-producing species, was more abundant in spoiled samples than in unspoiled samples. Inoculation of experimental FSSBs with S. marcescens isolated from spoiled FSSBs confirmed that this species causes brown discoloration of FSSBs during resteaming. S. marcescens formed prodigiosin only between 15 and 28 °C but brown discoloration appeared only upon resteaming after storage at 4 °C. High-performance liquid chromatography analyses revealed that prodigiosin was absent from yellow-brown FSSBs. The pigmentation observed during resteaming is thus likely attributable to the intermediate 2-methyl-3-amylpyrrole. These findings provide valuable insights into the microbial contamination of FSSBs and will facilitate the prevention of spoilage of FSSBs.

Abstract
Porous carbon is widely used in energy storage-conversion systems, and the question of how to explore an efficient strategy for preparation is very significant. Herein, the flame retardant capability of (NH4 )2 SO4 /Mg(OH)2 that contains gas phase-heat absorption-condensate phase components is assisted to carbonize coal tar pitch in air and obtain the porous carbon. The mechanism of stepwise inflaming retarding is systematically investigated. In the carbonization process in a muffle furnace, (NH4 )2 SO4 decomposes releasing gases at below 400 °C to act as the role of gas phase flame retardant. Mg(OH)2 starts to decompose at ≥ 400 °C, and it has the effect of heat absorption and condensed phase flame retardation (MgSO4 and MgO). What's more, the flame retardant also serves as an N, S source and template. The obtained porous carbon possesses an ultrahigh carbon yield of 56.9 wt.%, hierarchical pore structure, and multi-heteroatoms doping. It can still reach up to 244.7 F g-1 even loaded 20 mg of active material. In addition, the (NH4 )2 SO4 /agar gel electrolyte is synthesized, and the fabricated flexible ammonium ion capacitor exhibits a superior energy density of 40.8 Wh kg-1 . This work uncovers a new way to construct porous carbon, which is expected to synthesize more carbon materials using other carbon sources.

Abstract
Chronic tinnitus is highly prevalent but lacks precise diagnostic or effective therapeutic standards. Its onset and treatment mechanisms remain unclear, and there is a shortage of objective assessment methods. We aim to identify abnormal neural activity and reorganization in tinnitus patients and reveal potential neurophysiological markers for objectively evaluating tinnitus. By way of analyzing EEG microstates, comparing metrics under three resting states (OE, CE, and OECEm) between tinnitus sufferers and controls, and correlating them with tinnitus symptoms. This study reflected specific changes in the EEG microstates of tinnitus patients across multiple resting states, as well as inconsistent correlations with tinnitus symptoms. Microstate parameters were significantly different when patients were in OE and CE states. Specifically, the occurrence of Microstate A and the transition probabilities (TP) from other Microstates to A increased significantly, particularly in the CE state (32-37%, p ≤ 0.05 ); and both correlated positively with the tinnitus intensity. Nevertheless, under the OECEm state, increases were mainly observed in the duration, coverage, and occurrence of Microstate B (15-47%, ), which negatively correlated with intensity ( [Formula: see text]-0.513, ). Additionally, TPx between Microstates C and D were significantly reduced and positively correlated with HDAS levels ( [Formula: see text] 0.548, ). Furthermore, parameters of Microstate D also correlated with THI grades ( [Formula: see text]-0.576, ). The findings of this study could offer compelling evidence for central neural reorganization associated with chronic tinnitus. EEG microstate parameters that correlate with tinnitus symptoms could serve as neurophysiological markers, contributing to future research on the objective assessment of tinnitus.

Abstract
We successfully developed an induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) line, SYSUSHi001-A, from the peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) of a patient with Acute Myeloid Leukemia, harboring two genetic mutations (XPO1: c.591-4_591-3dupTT; PALB2: c.3296C > T; p.T1099M). This iPSC line was facilitated through the use of episomal plasmids encoding OCT4, SOX2, KLF4, L-MYC, and human miR-302. The SYSUSHi001-A iPSC line exhibited characteristic embryonic stem cell-like morphology, maintained the XPO1 and PALB2 mutations, expressed key pluripotency markers, preserved a normal karyotype (46, XY), and demonstrated the ability to differentiate into cells from all three germ layers in vitro.

Abstract
Objective This study aimed to investigate and compare the efficacy and safety of retinal laser photocoagulation (PRP) alone, PRP with aflibercept 3+PRN, and PRP with aflibercept 5+PRN in patients with both high-risk proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR) and diabetic macular edema (DME). Methods Overall, 170 patients with high-risk PDR and DME (170 eyes from 170 patients) who visited our ophthalmology clinic from December 2018 to December 2020 were divided into the PRP (n=58), aflibercept 5+PRN with PRP (n=53), and aflibercept 3+PRN with PRP (n= 59) groups. General information, such as age, sex, and eye category, was obtained. Moreover, best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA), baseline central macular foveal thickness (CFT), microaneurysm (MA), area of neovascularization (NV), area of hard exudate (HE), and cytokine levels in atrial fluid before and after treatment, were assessed. The χ2 test was used for comparison between groups for statistical data. Analysis of variance was used for the statistical description of measurement data, independent samples were analyzed using Student's t-test, and Student-Newman-Keuls test was used for group comparisons. Differences were considered statistically significant at P < 0.05. Results After treatment, no significant improvement in the BCVA (logMAR) of patients in the PRP group was observed. The BCVA (log MAR) decreased from 0.72 ± 0.17 and 0.74 ± 0.17 to 0.50 ± 0.13 and 0.53 ± 0.17 in PRP with aflibercept 5+PRN and PRP with aflibercept 3+PRN groups, respectively, with a statistically significant difference compared to those in the PRP group (P<0.05 in all cases). However, no statistically significant difference was observed between the combined treatment groups (P>0.05). The CFT in the PRP-only group decreased slightly from 361.80 ± 36.70 μm to 353.86 ± 40.88 μm, with no statistically significant difference (P>0.05), whereas the CFT in the aflibercept 5+PRN with PRP and aflibercept 3+PRN with PRP groups decreased from 356.57 ± 37.57 μm and 358.17 ± 44.66 μm to 284.87 ± 31.52 μm and 303.19 ± 37.00 μm, respectively, with statistically significant differences before and after treatment (P<0.05 for both groups). Statistically significant differences were observed in CFT between the three groups after treatment (P<0.05 in all cases). The number of MA (pcs) in the PRP, aflibercept 5+PRN with PRP, and aflibercept 3+PRN with PRP groups decreased from 118.34 ± 27.96, 118.60 ± 33.34, and 116.59 ± 28.95 to 92.95 ± 29.04, 44.60 ± 20.73, and 54.26 ± 25.43, respectively. The two-way comparison of the three groups revealed statistically significant differences in MA (P<0.05 in all cases). In the three groups, NV decreased from 1.00 ± 0.21 mm², 1.01 ± 0.18 mm², and 0.98 ± 0.20 mm² before treatment to 0.49 ± 0.17 mm², 0.31 ± 0.16 mm², and 0.38 ± 0.14 mm², respectively, with statistically significant differences (P<0.05 in all cases). After 12 months of treatment, 13, 18, and 18 patients had reduced HE area in the PRP-only, aflibercept 5+PRN with PRP, and aflibercept 3+PRN with PRP groups, respectively, with statistically significant differences (P<0.05 in all cases). After 12 months of treatment, vascular endothelial growth factor, monocyte chemoattractant protein-1, and glial fibrilliary acidic protein levels (pg/mL) in the aqueous humor decreased in both combined treatment groups compared with that at baseline, with statistically significant differences; however, no significant difference was observed between the two combined treatment groups (P>0.05). Conclusion Aflibercept 5+PRN combined with PRP was safe and effective in treating patients with high-risk PDR and DME, and was more effective than PRP-only and aflibercept 3+PRN with PRP in improving CFT and MA.

Abstract
Hazardous waste rotary kiln incineration, as the most effective and comprehensive technology to reduce and detoxify waste, generally faces problems such as low load rate and short continuous operating periods. However, there are few studies on the actual operation of such facilities and evaluation of their technical efficiency. Based on the 77-week time-series data of the case company, this study introduces in-depth key operating parameters and evaluates long-term technical efficiency through the data envelopment analysis (DEA) method. The results show that the continuous operating period of the rotary kiln incineration facility can reach more than half a year, with an average load rate of 91.7%. In the analysis of 9 input indicators, the amount of injected activated carbon could not be effectively evaluated due to the lack of relevant standards and online real-time monitoring of dioxins, which might become a weak link in the control of flue gas pollution. The average comprehensive technical efficiency of rotary kiln incineration facilities was 0.939, of which the average pure technical efficiency was 0.949 while the average scale efficiency was 0.989. With 33 of the 77 decision-making units being invalid, there is scope for improvement. The amount of incineration could be increased by 5.34%, and among the input variables, dosage of urea, calcium hydroxide and lye with a relatively high improvement ratio. Based on the results, targeted suggestions were proposed to advance the scientific and precise compatibility of hazardous waste, strengthen the control of dioxin emissions, and promote the intelligent control of the entire process.

Abstract
In view of the fact that people pay more and more attention to the principle of "getting the position according to the person" and "adapting the person to the position" in person-position matching, a dynamic person-position matching decision method based on hesitant fuzzy numbers is proposed. First, the dynamic person-position matching problem with hesitant fuzzy numbers is described. Then, according to hesitant fuzzy evaluation matrices of positions and candidates, expected score matrices of bilateral subjects are calculated. Furthermore, based on the idea of the generalized optimal order method and the dominant correlation and the missing correlation coefficients, satisfaction means of people and positions are calculated. According to satisfaction means, growth satisfactions at each period are obtained, and then the exponential decay formula is used to determine weights of growth satisfactions. Dynamic satisfactions of bilateral subjects are calculated by aggregating initial satisfaction means and growth satisfactions. On this basis, a stable person-position matching model considering dynamic satisfactions is established and then is solved to obtain the optimal stable person-position matching scheme. Finally, the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed method are verified by an example analysis of person-position matching. Main contributions of this paper are as follows: an effective calculation method for the missing correlation coefficient is presented; a novel effective calculation method for dynamic satisfactions is proposed by introducing the correlation parameter to combine the missing correlation coefficient with the dominant correlation coefficient; an effective stable person-position matching model considering dynamic satisfactions is established.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The complex network connections, information transmission and organization play key roles in brain cognition on sensory stimulation. Previous studies showed that several brain regions of somatosensory, motor, emotional, cognitive, etc. are linked to fabric-evoked prickle. But the functional connectivity characteristics of the brain network involved in prickle perception is still unclear. MATERIALS AND METHODS In the present study, resting state fMRI (functional magnetic resonance imaging) with functional connectivity analysis was adopted to build the initial brain functional network, and task fMRI with psychophysiological interaction analysis was employed to investigate modulation features of prickling task to functional connections in the brain network. RESULTS The results showed that, in resting state, six groups or sub-networks can be identified in the prickle network, and when the subjects performed the prickling task, functional connectivity strength between some seed regions (e.g., somatosensory regions and precuneus, emotional regions and the prefrontal cortex, etc.) in the network increased. CONCLUSION Combining resting-state fMRI with task fMRI is a feasible and promising method to study functional connectivity characteristics of the brain network involved in prickle perception. It is inferred that the "itch" ingredient of prickle sensation was transmitted from somatosensory cortices to precuneus, and emotional attribute (e.g., pain) from somatosensory cortices to the prefrontal cortex and at last to emotional regions.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The prevalence of ectopic pregnancy after assisted reproduction is notably high, posing a significant threat to the life safety of pregnant women. Discrepancies in published results and the lack of a comprehensive description of all risk factors have led to ongoing uncertainties concerning ectopic pregnancy after assisted reproduction. OBJECTIVE This study aimed to understand the risk factors for ectopic pregnancy after in vitro fertilization-embryo transfer in the Chinese population and provide a reference for targeted prevention and treatment. METHODS A comprehensive search of the China National Knowledge Infrastructure, Wang fang Database, China Science Technology Journal Database, Chinese Biomedical Literature Database, PubMed, Web of Science, and Embase was conducted to identify relevant literature on the risk factors for ectopic pregnancy in Chinese women after assisted reproductive technology in Chinese women. A meta-analysis of the included studies was performed using Stata17. RESULTS Overall, 34 articles were included in the analysis. The risk factors for ectopic pregnancy after in vitro fertilization-embryo transfer in the Chinese population included a thin endometrium on the day of HCG administration and embryo transplantation, a history of ectopic pregnancy, secondary infertility, a history of induced abortion, polycystic ovary syndrome, decreased ovarian reserve, tubal factor infertility, cleavage stage embryo transfer, fresh embryo transfer, artificial cycle protocols, elevated estradiol levels on the day of human chorionic gonadotropin administration, a history of tubal surgery, two or more number of embryo transfers, previous pregnancy history, and a history of pelvic surgery. CONCLUSION This study clarified the factors influencing ectopic pregnancy after in vitro fertilization and embryo transfer in the Chinese population, focusing on high-risk groups. Targeted and personalized intervention measures should be adopted to prevent and detect the disease early to reduce its incidence and harm. Abstract
Purpose We investigate the efficacy and safety of butorphanol in multimodal analgesia combined with dexmedetomidine and ketorolac via patient-controlled intravenous analgesia (PCIA) after hepatobiliary surgery, as compared with sufentanil. Patients and Methods Postoperative follow-up data of hepatobiliary surgery patients in Henan Provincial People's Hospital from March 2018 to June 2021 were collected retrospectively and divided into butorphanol group (group B) or sufentanil group (group S) according to the postoperative intravenous controlled analgesia scheme. The baseline characteristics and surgical information of the two groups were matched through propensity score matching (PSM). Results A total of 3437 patients were screened, and PSM yielded 1816 patients after matching, including 908 in the butorphanol group and 908 in the sufentanil group. Compared with group S, the incidence of moderate-to-severe pain on the first postoperative day and the second postoperative day was lower in group B during rest (3.2% vs 10.9%, P<0.001; 1.2% vs 4.6%, P<0.001), and during movement (7.0% vs 18.9%, P<0.001; 2.6% vs 8.7%, P<0.001). Patients receiving butorphanol had a lower morphine consumption (50mg vs 120mg, P<0.001). The bolus attempts of an analgesic pump in group B were significantly lower than in group S (1 vs 2, P<0.001). Postoperative hospital length of stay was shortened in group B (11d vs 12d, P=0.017). The occurrence of postoperative vomiting was lower in group B (1.4% vs 3.0%, P=0.025) than in group S. However, more patients in group B experienced dizziness (0.9% vs 0.1%, P=0.019). Conclusion Compared with sufentanil, the application of butorphanol in multimodal analgesia combined with dexmedetomidine and ketorolac via PCIA ameliorated postoperative pain after hepatobiliary surgery, with reduced opioid consumption and shorter postoperative hospital length of stay.

Abstract
Three-dimensional (3D) hanging drop cell culture is widely used in organoid culture because of its lack of selection pressure and rapid cell aggregation. However, current hanging drop technology has limitations, such as a dependence on complex microfluidic transport channels or specific capillary force templates for drop formation, which leads to unchangeable drop features. These methods also hinder live imaging because of space and complexity constraints. Here, we have developed a hanging drop construction method and created a flexible 3D hanging drop construction platform composed of a manipulation module and an adhesion module. Their harmonious operation allows for the easy construction of hanging drops of varying sizes, types, and patterns. Our platform produces a cell hanging drop chip with small sizes and clear fields of view, thereby making it compatible with live imaging. This platform has great potential for personalized medicine, cancer and drug discovery, tissue engineering, and stem cell research.

Abstract
We applied the time-series clustering method to analyze the trajectory data of rummy-nose tetra (Hemigrammus rhodostomus), with a particular focus on their spontaneous paired turning behavior. Firstly, an automated U-turn maneuver identification method was proposed to extract turning behaviors from the open trajectory data of two fish swimming in an annular tank. We revealed two distinct ways of pairwise U-turn swimming, named dominated turn and non-dominated turn. Upon comparison, the dominated turn is smoother and more efficient, with a fixed leader-follower relationship, i.e., the leader dominates the turning process. Because these two distinct ways corresponded to different patterns of turning feature parameters over time, we incorporated the Toeplitz inverse covariance-based clustering (TICC) method to gain deeper insights into this process. Pairwise turning behavior was decomposed into some elemental state compositions. Specifically, we found that the main influencing factor for a spontaneous U-turn is collision avoidance with the wall. In dominated turn, when inter-individual distances were appropriate, fish adjusted their positions and movement directions to achieve turning. Conversely, in closely spaced non-dominated turn, various factors such as changes in distance, velocity, and movement direction resulted in more complex behaviors. The purpose of our study is to integrate common location-based analysis methods with time-series clustering methods to analyze biological behavioral data. The study provides valuable insights into the U-turn behavior, motion characteristics, and decision factors of rummy-nose tetra during pairwise swimming. Additionally, the study extends the analysis of fish interaction features through the application of time-series clustering methods, offering a fresh perspective for the analysis of biological collective data.

Abstract
The meaning of most words in language depends on their context. Understanding how the human brain extracts contextualized meaning, and identifying where in the brain this takes place, remain important scientific challenges. But technological and computational advances in neuroscience and artificial intelligence now provide unprecedented opportunities to study the human brain in action as language is read and understood. Recent contextualized language models seem to be able to capture homonymic meaning variation ("bat", in a baseball vs. a vampire context), as well as more nuanced differences of meaning-for example, polysemous words such as "book", which can be interpreted in distinct but related senses ("explain a book", information, vs. "open a book", object) whose differences are fine-grained. We study these subtle differences in lexical meaning along the concrete/abstract dimension, as they are triggered by verb-noun semantic composition. We analyze functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) activations elicited by Italian verb phrases containing nouns whose interpretation is affected by the verb to different degrees. By using a contextualized language model and human concreteness ratings, we shed light on where in the brain such fine-grained meaning variation takes place and how it is coded. Our results show that phrase concreteness judgments and the contextualized model can predict BOLD activation associated with semantic composition within the language network. Importantly, representations derived from a complex, nonlinear composition process consistently outperform simpler composition approaches. This is compatible with a holistic view of semantic composition in the brain, where semantic representations are modified by the process of composition itself. When looking at individual brain areas, we find that encoding performance is statistically significant, although with differing patterns of results, suggesting differential involvement, in the posterior superior temporal sulcus, inferior frontal gyrus and anterior temporal lobe, and in motor areas previously associated with processing of concreteness/abstractness.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Immunotherapy has been proven to improve the prognosis of patients with advanced malignancy but has shown limited efficacy in patients with Colorectal Cancer (CRC). Increasing evidence suggests that butyrate, a bacterial metabolite, enhances the efficacy of cancer therapies by modulating immune responses. Here, the effect and the mechanism of butyrate on anti-PD-L1 therapy were investigated in CRC. METHODS The expression of PD-L1 and STAT1, and the lysine acetylation of STAT1 in CRC cells were observed after treatment with butyrate (2, 5, and 10 mM) for 24h or butyrate (5 mM) for 8, 16, and 24h. Site-directed mutations of STAT1 (K410R or K413R) were introduced to determine the role of STAT1 acetylation in modulating PD-L1 expression. The effect of butyrate on the cytotoxicity of CD8+ T-cells against CRC cells with or without PD-L1 overexpression was explored in vitro and in vivo. RESULTS Butyrate could suppress IFN-γ-induced PD-L1 up-regulation in CRC cells in a dose- and time-dependent way. Butyrate promoted the lysine acetylation of STAT1 to reduce STAT1 expression. Non-acetylated mutant STAT1 not only ameliorated butyrate-induced suppression of lysine acetylation and nuclear translocation of STAT1 but also blocked the effect of butyrate on PD-L1. Butyrate attenuated the IFN-γ-induced impairment of CD8+ T-cell cytotoxicity against CRC cells. Meanwhile, butyrate suppressed CRC tumor growth by enhancing CD8+ T-cell infiltration. However, directly overexpressing PD-L1 in CRC cells could abolish the effect of butyrate. CONCLUSION Butyrate strengthens the immune response to CRC cells by suppressing PD-L1 expression via acetylation of STAT1.

Abstract
Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a serious issue that is continuously growing and spreading, leading to a dwindling number of effective treatments for infections that were easily treatable with antibiotics in the past. Animal farms are a major hotspot for AMR, where antimicrobials are often overused, misused, and abused, in addition to overcrowding of animals. In this study, we investigated the risk of AMR transmission from a farm to nearby residential areas by examining the overall occurrence of endotoxins, antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs), and mobile genetic elements (MGEs) in the air of a cattle farm. We assessed various factors, including the season and year, day and nighttime, and different locations within the farm building and its vicinity. The most abundant ARGs detected were tetW, aadA1, and sul2, genes that encode for resistances towards antibiotics commonly used in veterinary medicine. While there was a clear concentration gradient for endotoxin from the middle of the farm building to the outside areas, the abundance of ARGs and MGEs was relatively uniform among all locations within the farm and its vicinity. This suggests that endotoxins preferentially accumulated in the coarse particle fraction, which deposited quickly, as opposed to the ARGs and MGEs, which might concentrate in the fine particle fraction and remain longer in the aerosol phase. The occurrence of the same genes found in the air samples and in the manure indicated that ARGs and MGEs in the air mostly originated from the cows, continuously being released from the manure to the air. Although our atmospheric dispersion model indicated a relatively low risk for nearby residential areas, farm workers might be at greater risk of getting infected with resistant bacteria and experiencing overall respiratory tract issues due to continuous exposure to elevated concentrations of endotoxins, ARGs and MGEs in the air of the farm.

Abstract
Gellan, an anionic heteropolysaccharide synthesized by Sphingomonas elodea, is an excellent gelling agent. However, its poor mechanical strength and high gelling temperature limit its application. Recent studies have reported that combining gellan with other polysaccharides achieves desirable properties for food- and biomaterial-related applications. This review summarizes the fabrication methods, functional properties, and potential applications of gellan-polysaccharide systems. Starch, pectin, xanthan gum, and konjac glucomannan are the most widely used polysaccharides in these composite systems. Heating-cooling and ionic-induced cross-linking approaches have been used in the fabrication of these systems. Composite gels fabricated using gellan and various polysaccharides exhibit different functional properties, possibly because of their distinct molecular interactions. In terms of applications, mixed gellan-polysaccharide systems have been extensively used in texture modification, edible coatings and films, bioactive component delivery, and tissue-engineering applications. Further scientific studies, including structural determinations of mixed systems, optimization of processing methods, and expansion of applications in food-related fields, are needed. Abstract
Introduction Bacterial metabolic environment influences antibiotic killing efficacy. Thus, a full understanding for the metabolic resistance mechanisms is especially important to combat antibiotic-resistant bacteria. Methods Isobaric tags for relative and absolute quantification-based proteomics approach was employed to compare proteomes between ceftazidime-resistant and -sensitive Edwarsiella tarda LTB4 (LTB4-RCAZ and LTB4-S, respectively). Results This analysis suggested the possibility that the ceftazidime resistance mediated by depressed glucose is implemented through an inefficient metabolic flux from glycolysis, the pyruvate cycle, glutamate metabolism to purine metabolism. The inefficient flux was demonstrated by the reduced expression of genes and the decreased activity of enzymes in the four metabolic pathways. However, supplement upstream glucose and downstream guanosine separately restored ceftazidime killing, which not only supports the conclusion that the inefficient metabolic flux is responsible for the resistance, but also provides an effective approach to reverse the resistance. In addition, the present study showed that ceftazidime is bound to pts promoter in E. tarda. Discussion Our study highlights the way in fully understanding metabolic resistance mechanisms and establishing metabolites-based metabolic reprogramming to combat antibiotic resistance.

Abstract
Coronary artery malformations are rare in the clinic. When with severe atherosclerosis, there is an additional risk. Specific coronary artery malformations, such as single right coronary artery, may be involved in the arteriosclerotic process, especially when accompanied by significant coronary artery tortuosity. It will remarkably challenge the treatment. We report a case of a single right coronary artery with severe stenosis and heart valve disease. She successfully underwent coronary artery bypass grafting and aortic valve replacement.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Selenium, a significant trace element needed by the human body, is closely related to thyroid. Therefore, this study aimed to explore the status of selenium and thyroid diseases, analyze emerging insights, and predict future trends. METHODS Literature on selenium and thyroid included in the core database of Web of Science from January 1992 to October 2022 was retrieved. CiteSpace and VOSviewer software were used for visual analysis in terms of publication, author, country, institution, co-citation, and keywords. RESULTS A total of 1,142 works of literature were included after the screening, and the annual publication showed a fluctuating upward trend. The country and the institution with the highest publication volume were the United States and Charité Universitätsmedizin Berlin, respectively. In terms of authors, Schomburg L has formed a cooperative network and has published the largest number of papers and made great contributions in this field. The biggest cluster of keywords was trace elements, and the hot keywords in recent years were oxidative stress, Hashimoto's thyroiditis, cadmium, copper, etc. Conclusion: This paper analyzes the current status, insights, and trends of the studies on selenium and thyroid diseases by the method of bibliometrics and delivers ideas and methods for subsequent research in this field. The therapeutic effect of selenium on Hashimoto's thyroiditis is controversial and needs further research, and oxidative stress is also a research hotspot in this field. The cross-study of multiple trace elements and diseases may be the development trend in the future.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate clinical features and outcomes of Chinese patients with Takotsubo syndrome (TTS). METHODS We established the first Chinese Registry of Takotsubo Syndrome (ChiTTS Registry) and analyzed demographic, clinical, therapeutical, and outcome data to characterize clinical and outcome features of Chinese TTS patients. RESULTS In 112 enrolled patients in the ChiTTS registry from 02/01/2016 to 12/28/2021, the mean age was 59.4 ± 18.7 years old, and 27.7% were men. A total of 41.1% patients experienced respiratory and circulatory complications during hospitalization, and 17.3% patients developed cardiogenic shock. Physical triggers, dyspnea, tachycardia, and younger age (< 70 years old) predicted in-hospital complications. The MACCE rate during follow up was 13.9% per patient per year and the rate of all-cause death was 12.8% per patient per year. TTS patients with in-hospital complications developed more long-term MACCE (24.6% vs. 6.6% per patient-year, P < 0.001) and higher all-cause mortality (21.9% vs. 6.6% per patient-year, P = 0.001) than those without. The Kaplan-Meier survival analysis showed that more MACCE occurred in TTS patients with tachycardia during 3-year follow-up (HR 4.18; 95% CI 1.80-9.74; log-rank test P < 0.001). Among all medications at discharge, only beta-blocker was associated with reduced long-term MACCE (HR: 0.35; 95% CI: 0.12-0.996; P = 0.049). CONCLUSION We investigated clinical and outcome features of patients in the first Chinese TTS Registry. Tachycardiac TTS patients developed more inpatient and long-term adverse cardiovascular events.

Abstract
BACKGROUND A kind of prickle sensation, which is a composite feeling of pain and itch, can be evoked by mechanical stimulation of fiber ends from fabric surface against to human hairy skin, rather than glabrous skin. Now, a functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) study was conducted to investigate the cognitive differences in the brain for mechanical prickling stimuli to the two types of skin. MATERIALS AND METHODS A nylon filament with the diameter of 205 μm and the length of 8 mm was used to deliver mechanical prickling stimuli respectively to two skin sites, fingertip (glabrous skin) and volar forearm (hairy skin), of eight healthy male subjects. Simultaneously, the technology of fMRI was adopted to acquire BOLD (Blood Oxygen Level-Dependent) signals of brain functional response of the subjects. RESULTS Somatosensory areas, emotional areas, and the posterior parietal cortex (especially the precuneus) are important brain regions that distinguish between the two conditions. The representation of mechanical prickling stimulation to glabrous skin in the brain favors much more the tactile information of the stimulation and contains no itch, while the key brain area, precuneus, involved in itch was activated by the same mechanical prickling stimulation to hairy skin, and brain response for the condition of hairy skin contains more emotional information, which plays an important role in pain processing. CONCLUSION Therefore, it can be inferred that a kind of stronger prickle sensation, which contains both pain and itch, was evoked by mechanical stimulation to hairy skin than glabrous skin.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Kiwifruit is highly susceptible to fungal pathogens, such as Botrytis cinerea, which reduce crop production and quality. In this study, dipicolinic acid (DPA), which is one of the main components of Bacillus spores, was evaluated as a new elicitor to enhance kiwifruit resistance to B. cinerea. RESULTS DPA enhances antioxidant capacity and induces the accumulation of phenolics in B. cinerea-infected 'Xuxiang' kiwifruit. The contents of the main antifungal phenolics in kiwifruit, including caffeic acid, chlorogenic acid and isoferulic acid, increased after DPA treatment. DPA enhanced H2 O2 levels after 0 and 1 days, which promoted catalase (CAT) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) activities, reducing long-term H2 O2 levels. DPA promoted the up-regulation of several kiwifruit defense genes, including CERK1, MPK3, PR1-1, PR1-2, PR5-1 and PR5-2. Furthermore, DPA at 5 mM inhibited B. cinerea symptoms in kiwifruit (95.1% lesion length inhibition) more effectively than the commercial fungicides carbendazim, difenoconazole, prochloraz and thiram. CONCLUSIONS The antioxidant properties of DPA and the main antifungal phenolics of kiwifruit were examined for the first time. This study uncovers new insights regarding the potential mechanisms used by Bacillus species to induce disease resistance. © 2023 Society of Chemical Industry.

Abstract
Objective This study aimed to observe and compare retinal vein diameter changes and other essential indicators in patients with high-risk proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR) treated with intravitreal injection of conbercept (IVC) combined with panretinal photocoagulation (PRP) versus PRP monotherapy. Methods A retrospective analysis was conducted on data from patients with high-risk PDR who received specific treatment and were followed up for 24 months. Among 82 patients with high-risk PDR, 50 eyes received PRP combined with IVC, whereas 32 eyes received PRP alone. During the 24-month follow-up period, changes in best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA), central foveal thickness (CFT), retinal vein diameter, number of microaneurysms (MA), neovascularization (NV) area, hard exudate (HE) area, size of the foveal avascular zone (FAZ), superficial capillary plexus (SCP) blood flow density, and adverse effects were recorded and compared between the two groups at baseline and at 6, 12, 18, and 24 months after treatment. The relationship between each observation index and vein diameter was also analyzed. Results During the 24-month follow up, significant improvements in the BCVA, CFT, retinal vein diameter, number of MAs, NV area, HE area, FAZ, and SCP were observed in the IVC+PRP group after treatment. The PRP group only showed significant reductions in NV and HE areas. The IVC+PRP group showed significant superiority over the PRP group in improving the vein diameter, number of MA, and HE area. However, no statistically significant difference in NV area reduction was found between the groups. Conclusion In the treatment of high-risk PDR, IVC+PRP therapy has a significant advantage over PRP monotherapy. IVC+PRP therapy may reverse diabetes-induced retinal vein changes, restoring morphology and function.

Abstract
Background The progression of complex diseases sometimes undergoes a drastic critical transition, at which the biological system abruptly shifts from a relatively healthy state (before-transition stage) to a disease state (after-transition stage). Searching for such a critical transition or critical state is crucial to provide timely and effective scientific treatment to patients. However, in most conditions where only a small sample size of clinical data is available, resulting in failure when detecting the critical states of complex diseases, particularly only single-sample data. Methods In this study, different from traditional methods that require multiple samples at each time, a model-free computational method, single-sample Markov flow entropy (sMFE), provides a solution to the identification problem of critical states/pre-disease states of complex diseases, solely based on a single-sample. Our proposed method was employed to characterize the dynamic changes of complex diseases from the perspective of network entropy. Results The proposed approach was verified by unmistakably identifying the critical state just before the occurrence of disease deterioration for four tumor datasets from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database. In addition, two new prognostic biomarkers, optimistic sMFE (O-sMFE) and pessimistic sMFE (P-sMFE) biomarkers, were identified by our method and enable the prognosis evaluation of tumors. Conclusions The proposed method has shown its capability to accurately detect pre-disease states of four cancers and provide two novel prognostic biomarkers, O-sMFE and P-sMFE biomarkers, to facilitate the personalized prognosis of patients. This is a remarkable achievement that could have a major impact on the diagnosis and treatment of complex diseases.

Abstract
The functionality of tunable liquid droplet adhesion is crucial for many applications such as self-cleaning surfaces and water collectors. However, it is still a challenge to achieve real-time and fast reversible switching between isotropic and anisotropic liquid droplet rolling states. Inspired by the surface topography on lotus leaves and rice leaves, herein we report a biomimetic hybrid surface with gradient magnetism-responsive micropillar/microplate arrays (GMRMA), featuring dynamic fast switching toward different droplet rolling states. The exceptional dynamic switching characteristics of GMRMA are visualized and attributed to the fast asymmetric deformation between the two different biomimetic microstructures under a magnetic field; they endow the rolling droplets with anisotropic interfacial resistance. Based on the exceptional morphology switching surface, we demonstrate the function of classification and screening of liquid droplets, and thus propose a new strategy for liquid mixing and potential microchemical reactions. It is expected that this intelligent GMRMA will be conducive to many engineering applications, such as microfluidic devices and microchemical reactors.

Abstract
Bottom-up self-assembly is regarded as an alternative way to manufacture series of microstructures in many fields, especially chiral microstructures, which attract tremendous attention because of their optical micromanipulations and chiroptical spectroscopies. However, most of the self-assembled microstructures cannot be tuned after processing, which largely hinders their broad applications. Here, we demonstrate a promising manufacturing strategy for switchable microstructures by combining the flexibility of femtosecond laser printing induced capillary force self-assembly and the temperature-responsive characteristics of smart hydrogels. Through designing asymmetric cross-link density, the printed microarchitectures can be deformed in the opposite direction and assembled into switchable ordered microstructures driven by capillary forces under different temperatures. Finally, the assembled chiral microstructures with switchable opposite handedness are realized, which shows tunable vortical dichroism. The proposed strategy holds potential applications in the fields of chiral photonics, chiral sensing, and so on.

Objective: To investigate the efficacy and safety of Bruton tyrosine kinase inhibitors (BTKi) ibrutinib or zanubrutinib monotherapy in newly diagnosed patients with Waldenström macroglobulinemia (WM) . Methods: The efficacy and adverse effects of 58 patients with newly diagnosed WM receiving BTKi monotherapy in Ruijin Hospital Affiliated to Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine were analyzed retrospectively from January 2018 to August 2022. Results: The response of 55 patients may be examined. Forty patients received ibrutinib monotherapy for a median of 15 months, with an overall response rate (ORR) of 85%, a main remission rate (MRR) of 70%, and a very good partial remission (VGPR) rate of 10%. Fifteen patients received zanubrutinib monotherapy for a median of 13 months, with an ORR of 93%, an MRR of 73%, and a VGPR rate of 0%. For various reasons, 10 patients were converted from ibrutinib to zanubrutinib. Ibrutinib treatment lasted an average of 7.5 months before conversion. The median duration of zanubrutinib therapy after conversion was 3.5 months. The ORRs before and after conversion were 90% and 100%, MRRs were 80% and 80%, and VGPR rates were 10% and 50%, respectively. After a median of 16 months, the 24-month progression-free survival (PFS) rate of patients who received both BTKi was 86%. PFS did not differ statistically across individuals with low, medium, and high-risk ISS scores (P=0.998). All of the patients survived. The most common side effects of BTKi were neutropenia and thrombocytopenia, which occurred in 12% and 10% of all patients, respectively. Ibrutinib accounts for 5% of atrial fibrillation, and zanubrutinib has a 7% risk of bleeding. Conclusions: In treating WM, ibrutinib or zanubrutinib provides good efficacy and tolerable adverse effects.

Abstract
The upregulated autophagy fuels the activation of hepatic stellate cells (HSCs) to promote hepatic fibrosis. However, the lack of specific inhibitors targeting autophagy and high requirements for cell targeting impede the application of antifibrotic therapy that targets autophagy. RNA interference (RNAi)-based short interfering RNA (siRNA) provides an approach to specifically inhibit autophagy. The therapeutic potential of siRNA, however, is far from being exploited due to the lack of safe and effective delivery vehicles. The cytoplasmic delivery of siRNA is essential for RNAi, and the intracellular trafficking pathway of vehicles determines the fate of siRNA. Unfortunately, the lysosomal degradation pathway, the intracellular fate of most gene vehicles, impedes RNAi efficiency. Inspired by the trafficking pathway of some viruses infecting cells, KDEL-grafted chondroitin sulfate (CK) was designed to alter the intracellular delivery fate of siRNA. The well-designed CD44-Golgi-ER trafficking pathway of CK was realized by triple cascade targeting including (1) CD44 targeting mediated by chondroitin sulfate, (2) Golgi apparatus targeting mediated by the caveolin-mediated endocytic pathway, and (3) endoplasmic reticulum (ER) targeting mediated by coat protein I (COP I) vesicles. CK was adsorbed on the complex of cationic liposomes (Lip) encapsulating siRNA targeting autophagy-related gene 7 (siATG7) to afford Lip/siATG7/CK. Lip/siATG7/CK functions as a drifting boat that follows the CD44-Golgi-ER flow and travels downstream to its destination (ER), bypassing the lysosomal degradation pathway and endowing HSCs with excellent RNAi efficiency. The efficient downregulation of ATG7 leads to an excellent antifibrotic effect both in vitro and in vivo.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study aims to evaluate the value of microbial rapid on-site evaluation (M-ROSE) of sepsis, and septic shock caused by pulmonary infection. PATIENTS AND METHODS Thirty-six patients with sepsis and septic shock due to hospital-acquired pneumonia were analyzed. Accuracy and time were compared with M-ROSE, traditional culture, and next-generation sequencing (NGS). RESULTS A total of 48 strains of bacteria and 8 strains of fungi were detected by bronchoscopy in 36 patients. The accuracy rate of bacteria and fungi was 95.8% and 100%, respectively. M-ROSE took an average of 0.34±0.01 hours, much faster than NGS (22h±0.01 h, p<0.0001) and traditional culture time (67.50±0.91 h, p<0.0001). CONCLUSIONS M-ROSE may quickly identify common bacteria and fungi, so it may be a useful method for the etiological diagnosis of sepsis and septic shock caused by pulmonary infection.

Abstract
Mucosal barriers provide the first line of defense between internal body surfaces and microbial threats from the outside world. 1 In the colon, the barrier consists of two layers of mucus and a single layer of tightly interconnected epithelial cells supported by connective tissue and immune cells. 2 Microbes colonize the loose, outer layer of colonic mucus, but are essentially excluded from the tight, epithelial-associated layer by host defenses. 3 The amount and composition of the mucus is calibrated based on microbial signals and loss of even a single component of this mixture can destabilize microbial biogeography and increase the risk of disease. 4-7 However, the specific components of mucus, their molecular microbial targets, and how they work to contain the gut microbiota are still largely unknown. Here we show that high mobility group box 1 (HMGB1), the prototypical damage-associated molecular pattern molecule (DAMP), acts as an agent of host mucosal defense in the colon. HMGB1 in colonic mucus targets an evolutionarily conserved amino acid sequence found in bacterial adhesins, including the well-characterized Enterobacteriaceae adhesin FimH. HMGB1 aggregates bacteria and blocks adhesin-carbohydrate interactions, inhibiting invasion through colonic mucus and adhesion to host cells. Exposure to HMGB1 also suppresses bacterial expression of FimH. In ulcerative colitis, HMGB1 mucosal defense is compromised, leading to tissue-adherent bacteria expressing FimH. Our results demonstrate a new, physiologic role for extracellular HMGB1 that refines its functions as a DAMP to include direct, virulence limiting effects on bacteria. The amino acid sequence targeted by HMGB1 appears to be broadly utilized by bacterial adhesins, critical for virulence, and differentially expressed by bacteria in commensal versus pathogenic states. These characteristics suggest that this amino acid sequence is a novel microbial virulence determinant and could be used to develop new approaches to diagnosis and treatment of bacterial disease that precisely identify and target virulent microbes.

Abstract
One of the impending consequences of the rapid penetration of electric vehicles (EVs) is that a substantial amount of expired EV batteries will present an increasing waste collection and management problem, particularly in the urban context. Motivated by a lack of research on this issue, this paper comprehensively evaluates the relative benefits of shared versus non-shared collection systems, where the service outlets are not exclusive to specified automakers. Using a mixed-integer optimization model, the analysis features spatiotemporal and multiple stakeholder complexities. Based on the historical monthly EV sales data from 2016 to 2021, a representative case study of Beijing, China is conducted, including 16 district centers, 32 major automobile manufacturers, 153 collection service outlets and 4 disposal centers. The results show that a shared collection service system leads to higher profitability, higher collection rates, increased environmental benefits and improved facility utilization. Consequently, this research contributes to supply chain liberalization to foster the efficient waste management of EV batteries. With a further model extension, it can also provide decision support for the policy-making of more countries.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Foreign studies have reported that coronary artery disease (CAD) patients with high baseline low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) may have a good prognosis, which is called the "cholesterol paradox". This study aimed to examine whether the "cholesterol paradox" also exists in the Chinese population. METHODS A total of 2,056 patients who underwent the first percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) between 2014 and 2016 were enrolled in this retrospective cohort study and classified into two groups based on baseline LDL-C = 2.6 mmol/L (100 mg/dL). The outcomes of interest included major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE), all-cause mortality, recurrent nonfatal myocardial infarction, unexpected coronary revascularization, or any nonfatal stroke. RESULTS All-cause mortality occurred in 8 patients (0.7%) from the low-LDL-C group and 12 patients (2.4%) in the high-LDL-C group, with a significant difference between the two groups (adjusted hazard ratio: 4.030, 95% confidence interval: 1.088-14.934; P = 0.037). However, no significant differences existed for the risk of MACE or other secondary endpoints, such as unexpected revascularization, nor any nonfatal stroke in the two groups. CONCLUSION In this study, a high baseline LDL-C was not associated with a low risk of clinical outcomes in CAD patients undergoing first PCI, which suggested that the "cholesterol paradox" may be inapplicable to Chinese populations.

Abstract
PURPOSE To investigate the dose-dependent protective effects of statins, specific classes of statins, and different intensities of statin use on sepsis risk in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). METHODS We included patients with T2DM aged ≥ 40 years. Statin use was defined as the use of statin on most days for > 1 months with a mean statin dose of ≥ 28 cumulative defined daily doses (cDDDs) per year (cDDD-year). An inverse probability of treatment-weighted Cox hazard model was used to investigate the effects of statin use on sepsis and septic shock while considering statin use status as a time-dependent variable. RESULTS From 2008 to 2020, a total of 812 420 patients were diagnosed as having T2DM. Among these patients, 118,765 (27.79%) statin nonusers and 50 804 (12.03%) statin users developed sepsis. Septic shock occurred in 42,755 (10.39%) individuals who did not use statins and 16,765 (4.18%) individuals who used statins. Overall, statin users had a lower prevalence of sepsis than did nonusers. The adjusted hazard ratio (aHR) of statin use was 0.37 (95% CI 0.35, 0.38) for sepsis compared with no statin use. Compared with the patients not using statins, those using different classes of statins exhibited a more significant reduction in sepsis, with aHRs (95% CIs) of sepsis being 0.09 (0.05, 0.14), 0.32 (0.31, 0.34), 0.34 (0.32, 0.36), 0.35 (0.32, 0.37), 0.37 (0.34, 0.39), 0.42 (0.38, 0.44), and 0.54 (0.51, 0.56) for pitavastatin, pravastatin, rosuvastatin, atorvastatin, simvastatin, fluvastatin, and lovastatin use, respectively. In the patients with different cDDD-years of statins, multivariate analysis indicated a significant reduction in sepsis, with aHRs of 0.53 (0.52, 0.57), 0.40 (0.39, 0.43), 0.29 (0.27, 0.30), and 0.17 (0.15, 0.19) for Q1, Q2, Q3, and Q4 cDDD-years (P for trend < 0.0001). The optimal daily statin dose of 0.84 DDD was associated with the lowest aHR. Similar trends of higher cDDD-year and specific statin types use were associated with a decrease in septic shock when compared to statin non-users. CONCLUSION Our real-world evidence demonstrated that the persistent use of statins reduced sepsis and septic shock risk in patients with T2DM and a higher cDDD-year of statin use was associated with an increased reduction of sepsis and septic shock risk in these patients.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The incidence of infections among cancer patients is as high as 23.2-33.2% in China. However, the lack of information and data on the number of antibiotics used by cancer patients is an obstacle to implementing antibiotic management plans. AIM This study aimed to investigate bacterial infections and antibiotic resistance in Chinese cancer patients to provide a reference for the rational use of antibiotics. DESIGN This was a 5-year retrospective study on the antibiotic resistance of cancer patients. METHODS In this 5-year surveillance study, we collected bacterial and antibiotic resistance data from 20 provincial cancer diagnosis and treatment centers and three specialized cancer hospitals in China. We analyzed the resistance of common bacteria to antibiotics, compared to common clinical drug-resistant bacteria, evaluated the evolution of critical drug-resistant bacteria and conducted data analysis. FINDINGS Between 2016 and 2020, 216 219 bacterial strains were clinically isolated. The resistance trend of Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae to amikacin, ciprofloxacin, cefotaxime, piperacillin/tazobactam and imipenem was relatively stable and did not significantly increase over time. The resistance of Pseudomonas aeruginosa strains to all antibiotics tested, including imipenem and meropenem, decreased over time. In contrast, the resistance of Acinetobacter baumannii strains to carbapenems increased from 4.7% to 14.7%. Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) significantly decreased from 65.2% in 2016 to 48.9% in 2020. CONCLUSIONS The bacterial prevalence and antibiotic resistance rates of E. coli, K. pneumoniae, P. aeruginosa, A. baumannii, S. aureus and MRSA were significantly lower than the national average.

Abstract
Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is a myeloid malignancy with generally high mortality. Although recent advances in AML research have revealed that circRNAs play significant roles in AML progression, our understanding of the leukemogenic mechanism of circRNAs remains very limited. In this study, increased expression of hsa_circ_0013880 was observed in bone marrow mononuclear cells (BMNCs) of AML patients. Overexpression of hsa_circ_0013880 promotes AML cell proliferation and migration and reduces cell apoptosis. Mechanistically, hsa_circ_0013880 could elevate the expression of USP32, a deubiquitinating enzyme that is highly expressed in the BMNCs of AML patients. Given the deubiquitination function of USP32, we further hypothesize that USP32 may mediate the malignant behaviors of AML cells by regulating the stability of Ras-related protein (Rap1b). At the molecular level, we find that silencing of USP32 increases ubiquitinated Rap1b. Overexpression of Rap1b restores the effects of USP32 knockdown, which further verifies our hypothesis. In addition, we propose another hypothesis that a potential regulatory network among hsa_circ_0013880, miR-148a-3p/miR-20a-5p and USP32 might exist in the development of AML, according to bioinformatics website predictions and our preliminary experimental verification. Overall, our findings will enrich the understanding of the hsa_circ_0013880/USP32/Rap1b axis in AML development, which may contribute to the development of novel therapeutic strategies for AML.

Abstract
The treatment of locally advanced rectal cancer (LARC) or locally recurrent rectal cancer (LRRC) has been a difficulty and challenge in the field of advanced rectal cancer, while pelvic exenteration (PE), as an important way to potentially achieve radical treatment of LARC and LRRC, has been shown to significantly improve the long-term prognosis of patients. The implementation of PE surgery requires precise assessment of the extent of invasion of LARC or LRRC and adequate preoperative preparation through multidisciplinary consultation before surgery. The lateral pelvis involves numerous tissues, blood vessels, and nerves, and resection is most difficult, and the ureteral and Marcille triangle approaches are recommended; while the supine transabdominal approach combined with intraoperative change to the prone jacket position facilitates adequate exposure of the surgical field and enables precise overall resection of the bony pelvis and pelvic floor muscle groups invaded by the tumor. Empty pelvic syndrome has always been an major problem to be solved during PE. The application of extracellular matrix biological mesh to reconstruct pelvic floor defects and isolate the abdominopelvic cavity is expected to reduce postoperative pelvic floor related complications. Reconstruction of the urinary system and important vessels after PE is essential, and the selection of appropriate reconstruction methods helps to improve the patient's postoperative quality of life, while more new methods are also being continuously explored.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the value of reconstruction of pelvic floor with biological products to prevent and treat empty pelvic syndrome after pelvic exenteration (PE) for locally advanced or recurrent rectal cancer. Methods: This was a descriptive study of data of 56 patients with locally advanced or locally recurrent rectal cancer without or with limited extra-pelvic metastases who had undergone PE and pelvic floor reconstruction using basement membrane biologic products to separate the abdominal and pelvic cavities in the Department of Anorectal Surgery of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Naval Military Medical University from November 2021 to May 2022. The extent of surgery was divided into two categories: mainly inside the pelvis (41 patients) and including pelvic wall resection (15 patients). In all procedures, basement membrane biologic products were used to reconstruct the pelvic floor and separate the abdominal and pelvic cavities. The procedures included a transperitoneal approach, in which biologic products were used to cover the retroperitoneal defect and the pelvic entrance from the Treitz ligament to the sacral promontory and sutured to the lateral peritoneum, the peritoneal margin of the retained organs in the anterior pelvis, or the pubic arch and pubic symphysis; and a sacrococcygeal approach in which biologic products were used to reconstruct the defect in the pelvic muscle-sacral plane. Variables assessed included patients' baseline information (including sex, age, history of preoperative radiotherapy, recurrence or primary, and extra-pelvic metastases), surgery-related variables (including extent of organ resection, operative time, intraoperative bleeding, and tissue restoration), post-operative recovery (time to recovery of bowel function and time to recovery from empty pelvic syndrome), complications, and findings on follow-up. Postoperative complications were graded using the Clavien-Dindo classification. Results: The median age of the 41 patients whose surgery was mainly inside the pelvis was 57 (31-82) years. The patients comprised 25 men and 16 women. Of these 41 patients, 23 had locally advanced disease and 18 had locally recurrent disease; 32 had a history of chemotherapy/immunotherapy/targeted therapy and 24 of radiation therapy. Among these patients, the median operative time, median intraoperative bleeding, median time to recovery of bowel function, and median time to resolution of empty pelvic syndrome were 440 (240-1020) minutes, 650 (200-4000) ml, 3 (1-9) days, and 14 (5-105) days, respectively. As for postoperative complications, 37 patients had Clavien-Dindo < grade III and four had ≥ grade III complications. One patient died of multiple organ failure 7 days after surgery, two underwent second surgeries because of massive bleeding from their pelvic floor wounds, and one was successfully resuscitated from respiratory failure. In contrast, the median age of the 15 patients whose procedure included combined pelvic and pelvic wall resection was 61 (43-76) years, they comprised eight men and seven women, four had locally advanced disease and 11 had locally recurrent disease. All had a history of chemotherapy/ immunotherapy and 13 had a history of radiation therapy. The median operative time, median intraoperative bleeding, median time to recovery of bowel function, and median time to relief of empty pelvic syndrome were 600 (360-960) minutes, 1600 (400-4000) ml, 3 (2-7) days, and 68 (7-120) days, respectively, in this subgroup of patients. Twelve of these patients had Clavien-Dindo < grade III and three had ≥ grade III postoperative complications. Follow-up was until 31 October 2022 or death; the median follow-up time was 9 (5-12) months. One patient in this group died 3 months after surgery because of rapid tumor progression. The remaining 54 patients have survived to date and no local recurrences have been detected at the surgical site. Conclusion: The use of basement membrane biologic products for pelvic floor reconstruction and separation of the abdominal and pelvic cavities during PE for locally advanced or recurrent rectal cancer is safe, effective, and feasible. It improves the perioperative safety of PE and warrants more implementation.
