Abstract
OBJECTIVE Eating disorder (ED) behaviors are often characterized as indirect forms of self-harm. However, recent research has found less clear demarcations between direct self-harming behaviors (e.g., nonsuicidal self-injury [NSSI], suicidal behaviors) than previously assumed. The aim of this study was to replicate findings of this prior research on adult populations in adolescents with a history of restrictive eating. METHOD A total of 117 adolescents between ages 12-14 were included in the study. Participants reported the presence and frequency of binge eating, compensatory, restrictive eating, and NSSI. Participants also reported thoughts of and intentions to hurt and kill themselves when engaging in each behavior on average. The t-tests and linear effects models were conducted to compare self-harming thoughts and intentions across behaviors. RESULTS Participants reported at least some intent to hurt themselves physically in the moment and in the long-term when engaging in all ED behaviors and NSSI, and reported engaging in these behaviors while thinking about suicide. Direct self-harming knowledge and intentions were most frequently reported with NSSI and longer-term knowledge and intentions via NSSI and restrictive eating. Additionally, participants reported some suicidal thoughts and intentions across behaviors. DISCUSSION This study replicates prior research, suggesting that adolescents engage in ED behaviors and NSSI with non-zero self-harming and suicidal thoughts and intentions. ED behaviors and NSSI may better be explained on a continuum. Implications include the recommendation of safety planning during ED treatment. PUBLIC SIGNIFICANCE STATEMENT This study highlights the overlap between eating disorder (ED) behaviors, nonsuicidal self-injury (NSSI), and suicide. Though clear distinctions typically exist for motives of self-harming behavior between ED behaviors (i.e., indirect, in the long run) and NSSI (i.e., direct, in the moment), this research suggests that intentions for self-harming and suicide may exist on a continuum. Clinical ED treatment should consider safety planning as part of routine interventions.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Suicidality is known to be elevated among people with an eating disorder. The aim of the current study was to examine whether any of three specific behavioral facets of eating disorders (i.e., purging, binge eating, restricting) would be the strongest predictors of suicidal ideation, controlling for one another, in longitudinal analyses from admission to discharge. We hypothesized that purging, above and beyond restricting or binge eating, would be the most important predictor of suicidal ideation. METHOD In the present study, patients with an eating disorder (N = 936), the majority of whom met criteria for a current DSM-5 diagnosis of Anorexia Nervosa (n = 560), completed the Eating Pathology Symptoms Inventory (EPSI) and the Beck Depression Inventory II-Item 9 suicidal ideation index, at admission and again at discharge. The settings were eating disorder treatment facilities offering inpatient, residential, partial hospitalization program (PHP), and intensive outpatient (IOP) levels of care. We pitted EPSI purging, EPSI restriction, and EPSI binge eating against one another in a regression framework predicting discharge suicidal ideation controlling for suicidal ideation at admission. RESULTS EPSI Purging significantly predicted both presence/absence of suicidal ideation (β = .22, t = 2.48, p = .01; OR = 1.25, 95% CI [1.05, 1.49]) and intensity of suicidal ideation (β = .04, t = 2.31, p = .02) at discharge, whereas neither EPSI Restricting nor EPSI Binge Eating did (p > .30). DISCUSSION Study results suggest that purging may have particular relevance in estimating suicide risk in patients with an eating disorder.

Abstract
BACKGROUND: Many transgender individuals of varying ages are at risk of developing eating disorder behaviors or unhealthy weight management behaviors. AIMS: This article reports the results of a review of the current literature on eating disorder behaviors among transgender individuals. METHODS: A literature search using CINAHL Complete, PubMed, and PsychInfo was conducted using key words "eating disorder," "eating disorder behaviors," and "transgender." Results were narrowed through author review and concurrence to eight peer-reviewed English language articles from 2013 to 2018. RESULTS: Four main themes emerged across the articles reviewed: gender characteristics and body dissatisfaction, public affirmations and stigma, amenorrhea, and mental health treatment and therapies. CONCLUSIONS: There is still much exploration needed to better care for this population in a sensitive and timely manner. Many valuable clinical implications have emerged from the current literature, which provide a positive step toward optimal individualized patient care.

Abstract
Abdominal obesity is important for understanding obesity, which is a worldwide medical problem. We explored structural and functional brain differences in people with abdominal and non-abdominal obesity by using multimodal neuroimaging and up-to-date analysis methods. A total of 274 overweight people, whose body mass index exceeded 25, were enrolled in this study. Participants were divided into abdominal and non-abdominal obesity groups using a waist–hip ratio threshold of 0.9 for males and 0.85 for females. Structural and functional brain differences were assessed with diffusion tensor imaging and resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging. Centrality measures were computed from structural fiber tractography, and static and dynamic functional connectivity matrices. Significant inter-group differences in structural and functional connectivity were found using degree centrality (DC) values. The associations between the DC values of the identified regions/networks and behaviors of eating disorder scores were explored. The highest association was achieved by combining DC values of the cerebral peduncle, anterior corona radiata, posterior corona radiata (from structural connectivity), frontoparietal network (from static connectivity), and executive control network (from dynamic connectivity) compared to the use of structural or functional connectivity only. Our results demonstrated the effectiveness of multimodal imaging data and found brain regions or networks that may be responsible for behaviors of eating disorders in people with abdominal obesity.
