Abstract
Dapagliflozin (DAPA) has been demonstrated to reduce cardiovascular mortality and heart failure hospitalization rates in diabetic patients. However, the mechanism underlying its cardio-protective effect in non-diabetic patients remains unclear. Our study aimed to explore the cardio-protective impact of DAPA on myocardial infarction in non-diabetic mice. We induced myocardial infarction in C57BL/6 mice by ligating the descending branch of the left coronary artery. After surgery, the animals were randomly treated with either saline or DAPA. We employed echocardiography, Western blot analysis, and tissue staining to assess post-infarction myocardial injury. Additionally, we investigated the mechanism of action through cell experiments. Compared to the myocardial infarction group, DAPA treatment significantly attenuated ventricular remodeling and improved cardiac function. By mitigating myocardial oxidative stress and apoptosis, DAPA may activate the AMPKα signaling pathway, thereby exerting a protective effect. These findings suggest that DAPA could serve as a novel therapeutic approach for patients with cardiac infarction.

Abstract
Inflammatory macrophages play a crucial role in atherosclerosis development. The long non-coding RNA growth arrest-specific 5 (GAS5) regulates THP-1 macrophage inflammation by sponging microRNAs. The purpose of this study was to investigate the regulatory mechanism of GAS5 in atherosclerosis development. GSE40231, GSE21545, and GSE28829 datasets from the Gene Expression Omnibus database were integrated after adjusting for batch effect. Differential analysis was performed on the integrated dataset and validated using the Genotype-Tissue Expression and GSE57691 datasets. Potential biological functions of GAS5 and annexin A2 (ANXA2) were identified using gene set enrichment analysis (GSEA). ssGSEA, CIBERSORTx, and ImmuCellAI algorithms were used to identify immune infiltration in plaque samples. GAS5 and ANXA2 expression levels in RAW264.7 cells treated with oxidized low-density lipoprotein (ox-LDL) were measured by qRT-PCR and Western blot. Small interfering and short hairpin RNA were used to silence GAS5 expression. Plasmids of ANXA2 were used to establish ANXA2 overexpression. Apoptosis and inflammatory markers in macrophages were detected by Western blot. Aortic samples from APOE-/- mice were collected to validate the expression of GAS5 and ANXA2. GAS5 expression was significantly increased during atherosclerosis. GAS5 expression was positively correlated with macrophage activation and ANXA2 expression in plaques. Furthermore, ANXA2 upregulation was also related to the activation of macrophage. GSEA indicated similar biological functions for GAS5 and ANXA2 in plaques. Moreover, in vitro experiments showed that both GAS5 and ANXA2 contributed to macrophage apoptosis and inflammation. Rescue assays revealed that the inflammatory effects of GAS5 on macrophages were ANXA2-dependent. In vivo experiments confirmed the highly expression of Gas5 and Anxa2 in the plaque group. We identified the atherogenic roles of GAS5 and ANXA2 in the inflammatory response of macrophages. The inflammatory response in ox-LDL-treated macrophages was found to be mediated by GAS5-ANXA2 regulation, opening new avenues for atherosclerosis therapy.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Population aging might increase the prevalence of undernutrition in older people, which increases the risk of frailty. Numerous studies have indicated that myokines are released by skeletal myocytes in response to muscular contractions and might be associated with frailty. This study aimed to evaluate whether myokines are biomarkers of frailty in older inpatients with undernutrition. METHODS The frailty biomarkers were extracted from the Gene Expression Omnibus and Genecards datasets. Relevant myokines and health-related variables were assessed in 55 inpatients aged ≥ 65 years from the Peking Union Medical College Hospital prospective longitudinal frailty study. Serum was prepared for enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay using the appropriate kits. Correlations between biomarkers and frailty status were calculated by Spearman's correlation analysis. Multiple linear regression was performed to investigate the association between factors and frailty scores. RESULTS The prevalence of frailty was 13.21%. The bioinformatics analysis indicated that leptin, adenosine 5'-monophosphate-activated protein kinase (AMPK), irisin, decorin, and myostatin were potential biomarkers of frailty. The frailty group had significantly higher concentrations of leptin, AMPK, and MSTN than the robust group (p < 0.05). AMPK was significantly positively correlated with frailty (p < 0.05). The pre-frailty and frailty groups had significantly lower concentrations of irisin than the robust group (p < 0.05), whereas the DCN concentration did not differ among the groups. Multiple linear regression suggested that the 15 factors influencing the coefficients of association, the top 50% were the ADL score, MNA-SF score, serum albumin concentration, urination function, hearing function, leptin concentration, GDS-15 score, and MSTN concentration. CONCLUSIONS Proinflammatory myokines, particularly leptin, myostatin, and AMPK, negatively affect muscle mass and strength in older adults. ADL and nutritional status play major roles in the development of frailty. Our results confirm that identification of frailty relies upon clinical variables, myokine concentrations, and functional parameters, which might enable the identification and monitoring of frailty.

Abstract
Background: Sterile inflammation contributes to the pathogenesis of cardiac dysfunction caused by various conditions including pressure overload in hypertension. Mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) released from damaged mitochondria has been implicated in cardiac inflammation. However, the upstream mechanisms governing mtDNA release and how mtDNA activates sterile inflammation in pressure-overloaded hearts remain largely unknown. Here, we investigated the role of inducible NO synthase (iNOS) on pressure overload-induced cytosolic accumulation of mtDNA and whether mtDNA activated inflammation through the cyclic GMP-AMP synthase (cGAS)-stimulator of interferon genes (STING) pathway. Methods: To investigate whether the cGAS-STING cascade was involved in sterile inflammation and cardiac dysfunction upon pressure overload, cardiomyocyte-specific STING depletion mice and mice injected with adeno-associated virus-9 (AAV-9) to suppress the cGAS-STING cascade in the heart were subjected to transverse aortic constriction (TAC). iNOS null mice were used to determine the role of iNOS in cGAS-STING pathway activation in pressure-stressed hearts. Results: iNOS knockout abrogated mtDNA release and alleviated cardiac sterile inflammation resulting in improved cardiac function. Conversely, activating the cGAS-STING pathway blunted the protective effects of iNOS knockout. Moreover, iNOS activated the cGAS-STING pathway in isolated myocytes and this was prevented by depleting cytosolic mtDNA. In addition, disruption of the cGAS-STING pathway suppressed inflammatory cytokine transcription and modulated M1/M2 macrophage polarization, and thus mitigated cardiac remodeling and improved heart function. Finally, increased iNOS expression along with cytosolic mtDNA accumulation and cGAS-STING activation were also seen in human hypertensive hearts. Conclusion: Our findings demonstrate that mtDNA is released into the cytosol and triggers sterile inflammation through the cGAS-STING pathway leading to cardiac dysfunction after pressure overload. iNOS controls mtDNA release and subsequent cGAS activation in pressure-stressed hearts.

Abstract
BACKGROUND There are no specific treatment methods for intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH). Neuroinflammation triggered by microglial pyroptosis plays an important role in ICH pathophysiology. Bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) are widely used in the treatment of neurological diseases because of their paracrine function. In this study, we aimed to clarify whether BMSCs can alleviate microglial pyroptosis after ICH by secreting C1q/tumor necrosis factor-related protein 3 (CTRP3), a adiponectin paralog with established metabolic regulatory properties and neuroprotective effects. METHODS In an in vitro study, microglia were stimulated with hemin for pyroptosis and then co-cultured with BMSCs, CTRP3, or CTRP3-small interfering RNA (siRNA)-BMSC; in an in vivo study, intracerebroventricular transplantation of BMSCs or siRNA-CTRP3-BMSCs was performed after ICH surgery. The expression of inflammation-related factors was detected by qRT-PCR and ELISA. Western blotting and immunofluorescence staining were performed to detect the expression of pyroptotic protein, and western blotting was used to detect the activation of phosphoinositide 3-kinase (PI3K), protein kinase B (AKT) and splenic tyrosine kinase (Syk). Behavioral changes were detected 7 days after transplantation. RESULTS ELISA and qRT-PCR results showed that the production of inflammatory cytokines in hemin-stimulated microglia was significantly downregulated following pretreatment with BMSCs or CTRP3. The Caspase-1 activity assay kit and western blotting results showed that BMSCs attenuated microglial pyroptosis by secreting CTRP3. Furthermore, the modulation functions of BMSCs or CTRP3 involve the promotion of PI3K/AKT and inhibition of Syk signaling pathway activation. Neurological deficits, edema, and disruption of tight junction protein were completely alleviated, while inflammation-related factors and microglial pyroptosis after ICH were significantly downregulated after BMSCs administration. CONCLUSION BMSCs can inhibit neuroinflammation by inhibiting microglial pyroptosis, thus alleviate ICH symptoms, likely by suppressing the Syk signaling pathway while promoting the PI3K/AKT signaling pathway activation through producing CTRP3.

Endothelial dysfunction develops gradually with age, and is the foundation of many age-related diseases in the elderly. The purpose of this study was to investigate the role of the cyclic GMP-AMP synthase (cGAS)-stimulator of interferon genes (STING) pathway in aging-related endothelial dysfunction. Endothelial functional parameters and biochemical indices of vascular function were examined in 2-, 6-, 12- and 24-month-old mice. Then, 6-month-old mice were administered RU.521, a specific inhibitor of cGAS, for 6 months, and endothelial functional parameters and biochemical indices of vascular function were re-examined. An in vitro model of cell senescence was established by treating human aortic endothelial cells (HAECs) with D-Galactose (D-GAL). Using inhibitors or siRNA interference, cGAS and STING were suppressed or silenced in senescent HAECs, and changes in the expression of eNOS, the senescence markers, p53, p21 and p16, components of the cGAS-STING pathway and Senescence-Associated β-galactosidase (SA-β-gal) staining were examined. Finally, cGAS, STING and p-IRF3 levels were measured in aorta tissue sections from eight patients. A decline in endothelial function, up-regulation of p53, p21 and p16 expression, and activation of the cGAS-STING pathway were observed in aging mice. Inhibition of cGAS was found to improve endothelial function and reverse the increased expression of aging markers. Our in vitro data demonstrated that D-GAL induced a decrease in eNOS expression and cell senescence, which could be partly reversed by cGAS inhibitor, STING inhibitor, siRNA-cGAS and siRNA-STING treatment. Higher expression levels of cGAS, STING and p-IRF3 were observed in aged human aortic intima tissue compared to young aortic intima tissue. Our study demonstrated that activation of the cGAS-STING pathway played a vital role in aging-related endothelial dysfunction. Thus, the cGAS-STING pathway may be a potential target for the prevention of cardiovascular diseases in the elderly.

Abstract
We aimed to examine the effects of aerobic exercise training on renal function in spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR) and elucidate their possible mechanisms. Adult male SHR and age-matched Wistar-Kyoto rats (WKY) were divided into four groups: WKY sedentary group, SHR sedentary group, low-intensity training group, and medium-intensity training group. Using molecular and biochemical approaches, we investigated the effects of 14-week training on renalase (RNLS) protein levels, renal function, and apoptosis and oxidative stress modulators in kidney tissues. In vitro, angiotensin II (Ang II)-induced human kidney proximal epithelial cells (HK-2) were treated with RNLS, and changes in apoptosis and oxidative stress levels were observed. Our results show that moderate training improved renal function decline in SHR. In addition, aerobic exercise therapy significantly increased levels of RNLS in the renal medulla of SHR. We observed in vitro that RNLS significantly inhibited the increase of Ang II-inducedapoptosis and oxidative stress levels in HK-2. In conclusion, aerobic exercise training effectively improved renal function in SHR by promoting RNLS expression in the renal medulla. These results explain the possible mechanism in which exercise improves renal injury in hypertensive patients and suggest RNLS as a novel therapy for kidney injury patients.

Abstract
Excessive oxidative stress is a major causative factor of endothelial dysfunction in hypertension. As an endogenous pro-oxidant, thioredoxin-interacting protein (TXNIP) contributes to oxidative damage in various tissues. The present study aimed to investigate the role of TXNIP in mediating endothelial dysfunction in hypertension. In vivo, an experimental model of acquired hypertension was established with two-kidney, one-clip (2K1C) surgery. The expression of TXNIP in the vascular endothelial cells of multiple vessels was significantly increased in hypertensive rats compared with sham-operated rats. Resveratrol, a TXNIP inhibitor, suppressed vascular oxidative damage and increased the expression and activity of eNOS in the aorta of hypertensive rats. Notably, impaired endothelium-dependent vasodilation was effectively improved by TXNIP inhibition in hypertensive rats. In vitro, we observed that Ang II increased the expression of TXNIP in primary human aortic endothelial cells (HAECs) and that TXNIP knockdown by RNA interference alleviated cellular oxidative stress damage and mitigated the impaired eNOS activation and intracellular nitric oxide (NO) production observed in Ang II-treated HAECs. However, inhibiting thioredoxin (TRX) with PX-12 completely blunted the protective effect of silencing TXNIP. In addition, TXNIP knockdown facilitated TRX expression and promoted TRX nuclear translocation to further activate AP1 and REF1. TRX overexpression exhibited favorable effects on eNOS/NO homeostasis in Ang II-treated HAECs. Thus, TXNIP contributes to oxidative stress and endothelial dysfunction in hypertension, and these effects are dependent on the antioxidant capacity of TRX, suggesting that targeting TXNIP may be a novel strategy for antihypertensive therapy.

Abstract
AIM To examine the effect of diacerein on vascular dysfunction in type 2 diabetic rats and elucidate the mechanism of diacerein. METHODS In a rat model, type 2 diabetes was induced by high-fat diet and streptozotocin. Vascular function was assessed in vascular reactivity experiment. The effect of diacerein (10 or 20 mg/kg/day) on blood glucose, inflammation and insulin signaling, and modulators in vascular tissue in diabetic rats were investigated by molecular and biochemical approaches. RESULTS In this study, diacerein inhibited diabetes-induced vascular dysfunction. Diacerein treatment normalized blood glucose, insulin tolerance test, inflammatory cytokine levels and nitric oxide synthases expression in diabetic rats. Moreover, diacerein inhibited NF-κB and NLRP3 pathways and activated insulin signaling pathway related proteins IRS-1 and AKT in diabetic rats. CONCLUSION Diacerein improved vascular function effectively in diabetic rats by suppressing inflammation and reducing insulin resistance. These results suggest that diacerein may represent a novel therapy for patients with diabetes.

Abstract
Sepsis-induced cardiac dysfunction (SICD) is one of the key complications in sepsis and it is associated with adverse outcomes and increased mortality. There is no effective drug to treat SICD. Previously, we reported that tubeimoside I (TBM) improved survival of septic mice. The aim of this study is to figure out whether TBM ameliorates SICD. Also, SIRT3 was reported to protects against SICD. Our second aim is to confirm whether SIRT3 plays essential roles in TBM's protective effects against SICD. Our results demonstrated that TBM could alleviate SICD and SICD's key pathological factor, inflammation, oxidative stress, and apoptosis were all reduced by TBM. Notably, SICD induced a significant decrease in cardiac SIRT3 expression, while TBM treatment could reverse SIRT3 expression. To clarify whether TBM provides protection via SIRT3, we injected a specific SIRT3 inhibitor 3-(1H-1,2,3-triazol-4-yl) pyridine (3-TYP) into mice before TBM treatment. Then the cardioprotective effects of TBM were largely abolished by 3-TYP. This suggests that SIRT3 plays an essential role in TBM's cardioprotective effects. In vitro, TBM also protected H9c2 cells against LPS-induced injury, and siSIRT3 diminished these protective effects. Taken together, our results demonstrate that TBM protects against SICD via SIRT3. TBM might be a potential drug candidate for SICD treatment.

Abstract
It has been revealed that widespread vascular endothelial dysfunction occurs in septic shock, ultimately resulting in multiple organ failure. The mitochondrial deacetylase sirtuin 3 (SIRT3) is essential in the regulation of metabolism, anti-inflammation, and anti-oxidation. The purpose of this study is to investigate whether SIRT3 is associated with the pathological progression of endothelial dysfunction in sepsis. Septic shock model was induced by cecal ligation and puncture (CLP) surgery on wild-type C57BL/6 mice. We activated and inhibited the function of SIRT3 with honokiol (HKL) and 3-TYP, respectively, and then biochemical, inflammatory, and endothelial function parameters of vascular tissue and survival were determined after CLP. CLP significantly activated NF-κB and NLRP3 pathways and decreased survival rate, endothelium-dependent relaxation function, and expression of Ser1177 phosphorylation of endothelial nitric oxide synthase (p-eNOS). The activation of SIRT3 significantly attenuated the increases of NF-κB and NLRP3 pathways and the declines of p-eNOS, endothelium-dependent relaxation function, and survival rate in septic mice. However, it presented exactly opposite results if SIRT3 was suppressed. We suggested that SIRT3 had a critical protective effect against vascular inflammation and endothelial dysfunction in early sepsis. Our data support a potential therapeutic target in vascular dysfunction and septic shock.

Abstract
ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE Tubeimoside I (TBM) is a triterpenoid saponin purified from tubeimu (tuber of Bolbostemma paniculatum (Maxim.) Franquet). In traditional Chinese medicine, tubeimu had been used to treat acute mastitis, snake bites, detoxication, inflammatory diseases, and tumors for over 1000 years. AIM OF THE STUDY This study aimed to investigate whether TBM could promote angiogenesis and how to promote angiogenesis. MATERIALS AND METHODS In vivo, the pro-angiogenic effects of TBM were examined using the hindlimb ischemia model. After the ischemia operation, 1 mg/kg/day TBM was given via intraperitoneal injection for 28 days and the recovery of blood flow was monitored by Doppler scanner every 7 days. The capillary density in gastrocnemius muscle was detected by immunofluorescence. Expression of related proteins were determined by western blotting. In vitro, the pro-angiogenic effects of TBM on HUVECs were examined by Cell Counting Kit-8, scratch assay, endothelial cell tube formation assay and western blotting. RESULTS TBM improved recovery from hindlimb ischemia in C57BL/6 mice. TBM promoted endothelial cell viability, migration and tube formation in HUVECs. TBM could activate eNOS-VEGF signaling pathway by enhancing expression of eNOS. And TBM's pro-angiogenesis effects could be abolished by L-NAME (an inhibitor of eNOS). CONCLUSIONS TBM promoted angiogenesis via the activation of eNOS-VEGF signaling pathway and TBM could be a novel agent for therapeutic angiogenesis in ischemic diseases.

Abstract
ABSTRACT Myocardial fibrosis (MF) is a pathological process that accelerates cardiac remodeling in myocardial infarction (MI), and miR-29 has become one of the foci of research into MF. As an alkaloid extracted from Herba leonuri, leonurine (LE) has been found to be an effective natural active ingredient for inhibiting fibrosis in many preclinical experiments. However, whether LE protects against MF after MI through modifying miR-29 remains unclear. The present study aimed to investigate the therapeutic effects of LE on MF, and to elucidate the underlying mechanisms involved. A mouse model of MI was established, followed by administration of LE for 4 weeks. We found that LE effectively improved cardiac function, and attenuated fibrosis and cardiac remodeling in mice post-MI. In vitro, LE simultaneously inhibited proliferation and migration of neonatal mouse cardiac fibroblasts (CFs) exposed to angiotensin II (Ang II), and the activation of collagen synthesis and myofibroblast generation was markedly suppressed by LE. Notably, we found that all mature miR-29 family members were downregulated in the myocardial tissues of mice post-MI, whereas LE significantly upregulated miR-29a-3p expression, and such upregulation was also detected in LE-treated CFs under Ang II stimulation. Knockdown of miR-29a-3p by a specific miRNA inhibitor upregulated the protein levels of TGF-β, collagen III, and collagen I in CFs, and completely reversed the antifibrotic effects of LE on CFs. Our study suggests that LE exerts cardioprotective effects against MF, possibly through the upregulation of miR-29a-3p.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Recently, the role of long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) in tumor progression has caught attention in numerous researchers. In our investigation, lncRNA PCAT-1 was studied to identify how it functioned in the progression of ovarian cancer. PATIENTS AND METHODS LncRNA PCAT-1 expression was detected by quantitative Real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) in both ovarian cancer cells and tissue samples. Furthermore, to identify the function of PCAT-1 in ovarian cancer, cell proliferation, transwell assay and Matrigel assay were conducted. In addition, by performing qRT-PCR and Western blot assay, the underlying mechanism was explored. RESULTS PCAT-1 expression was remarkably higher in ovarian cancer samples when compared with that in corresponding ones. Moreover, cell proliferation, migration and invasion were inhibited after PCAT-1 was knocked down in ovarian cancer cells. Moreover, the mRNA and protein expression of KLF6 (Krüppel-like factor 6) was upregulated after PCAT-1 was knocked down. Furthermore, the KLF6 expression level was negatively related to the PCAT-1 expression level in ovarian cancer samples. CONCLUSIONS We showed that PCAT-1 promotes the progression of ovarian cancer through enhancing cell metastasis and proliferation via suppressing KLF6, which might be a novel therapeutic strategy in ovarian cancer.

Abstract
Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is the most aggressive breast cancer, and thus, has limited treatment options. Neuropilin1 (NRP1) is a multi-functional transmembrane protein that interacts with a number of signaling receptors and plays an important role in cancer progression. Previous studies demonstrated that the expression of NRP1 is activated and promotes the progression of breast cancer particularly in TNBC compared to other molecular subtypes; however, whether or not the level of NRP1 expression is related to the progression of TNBC warrants further study. In the current study, we determined the expression and function of NRP1 and evaluated the clinical significance of NRP1 in patients with TNBC. In addition, we determined whether or not an NRP1 antagonist potentiates the inhibitory effects of paclitaxel (PTX) in patients with TNBC. In our clinical study, NRP1 had higher expression in TNBC tissues than non-TNBC tissues at the same stage, and NRP1 was an independent prognostic factor. Specifically, the high expression of NRP1 was associated with shorter survival in TNBC patients. In addition, TNBC cells treated with NRP1 antagonist significantly potentiated the effect of PTX on cell proliferation, cell migration, and apoptosis. Our findings suggest that NRP1 expression can act as an independent prognostic factor for TNBC patients, and the combination of PTX and an NRP1 antagonist may be an effective treatment regimen for TNBC.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Epirubicin is a potent chemotherapeutic agent for the treatment of breast cancer. However, it may lead to cardiotoxicity and cardiomyopathy, and no reliable biomarker was available for the early prediction of epirubicin-induced cardiomyopathy. METHODS Global gene expression changes of peripheral blood cells were studied using high-throughput RNA sequencing in three pair-matched breast cancer patients (patients who developed symptomatic cardiomyopathy paired with patients who did not) before and after the full session of epirubicin-based chemotherapy. Functional analysis was conducted using gene ontology and pathway enrichment analysis. RESULTS We identified 13 significantly differentially expressed genes between patients who developed symptomatic epirubicin-induced cardiomyopathy and their paired control who did not. Among them, the upregulated Bcl-associated X protein was related to "apoptosis," while the downregulated 5'-aminolevulinate synthase 2 (ALAS2) was related to both "glycine, serine, and threonine metabolism" and "porphyrin and chlorophyll metabolism" in pathway enrichment analysis. CONCLUSIONS ALAS2 and the metabolic pathways which were involved may play an important role in the development of epirubicin-induced cardiomyopathy. ALAS2 may be useful as an early biomarker for epirubicin-induced cardiotoxicity detection.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Microscopic structures of the ossification centres of the odontoid process were studied from the micro-computed tomography (CT) images of the axis, and the potential influence of the ossification centres with different microscopic structures on odontoid process fractures was analysed. MATERIALS AND METHODS Eighteen odontoid process specimens were randomly collected and scanned by micro-CT. The obtained images were then input into the software for further observation and measurement. Incomplete absorption of the ossification centres in the base was observed, along with the anatomic structure of the regions with incomplete ossification and structural parameters of the trabecular bones. RESULTS The microscopic structures of the trabecular bones in the ossification centres in the base of the odontoid process could be clearly visualised from the micro-CT images. Among the 18 odontoid process specimens, 11 specimens were found with incomplete absorption of the ossification centres in the axis, the prevalence reaching up to 61%. Regions with incomplete ossification varied in size and morphology, and their three-dimensional morphology was predominantly oval. Of all structural parameters examined for the trabecular bones, there were only significant differences in the degree of anisotropy between the regions with incomplete absorption of ossification centres and the average vertebral trabecular bones (p < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS Incomplete absorption of the ossification centres in the base of the odontoid process is a relatively prevalent condition. The cavitation effect of the trabecular bones may be the primary cause for odontoid process fractures.

Abstract
Objective:To evaluate the influence of voice disorders on children's quality of life through the parental version of pediatric voice-related quality of life(pVRQOL). Method:Three hundred and eighty-six children from August 2017 to December 2018 were enrolled in this study. A total of 214 parents of children had voice disorders(dysphonic group), and 172 parents of children were without voice disorders(control group). Both groups were filled out the questionnaire containing the parental version of pVRQOL. Result:① The most common disease in children with voice disorder was vocal fold nodule, and boys were more susceptible to voice disorder than girls(71.5%, 28.5%); ②In dysphonic group, the scores of total(91.40±8.63, 97.94±4.23), physiology and function(87.55±10.98, 96.99±6.10), social emotion(98.86 ±3.29, 99.73±1.08) were lower than those in control group(P<0.01); ③In dysphonic group, there was a correlation between the parents' overall evaluation of the children's voice quality and the three dimensions of the parental version of pVRQOL(total: r=-0.398, P<0.01, physical function: r=-0.448, P<0.01, social-emotion: r=-0.125, P<0.05). Conclusion:Voice disorders could cause a negative impact on children's voice related quality of life. pVRQOL could be applied to assess the voice-related quality of life in children with voice disorders.

Abstract
AIMS Cardiac dysfunction is a major cause of multi-organ dysfunction in critical care units following severe burns. The purpose of this study was to investigate the role of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) in cardiac dysfunction in burned mice. MATERIALS AND METHODS Wild-type and iNOS-knockout mice were subjected to 30% total body surface area burns. Next, the expression of iNOS was measured at 1, 3 and 7 days post-burn. Cardiac function, insulin sensitivity, inflammation, oxidative stress, and apoptosis in the hearts of the mice were assessed at 3 days post-burn. KEY FINDINGS Compared to control mice, iNOS expression was increased and reached a maximum in the heart of burned mice at 3 days post-burn. iNOS deficiency significantly alleviated the cardiac dysfunction and insulin resistance in burned mice. In addition, burn-induced inflammation, oxidative stress, and apoptosis in the heart were markedly reduced in iNOS-knockout burned mice when compared to corresponding values in wild-type burned mice. SIGNIFICANCE Our study demonstrates that iNOS contributes to insulin resistance in the hearts of mice following burn injury, and iNOS deficiency protects cardiac function against burn injury in mice, suggesting iNOS as a potential therapeutic target to treat burn injuries.

Abstract
Objective:The aim of this study is to investigate the voice function change in patients who underwent total thyroidectomy between preoperative and the third day postoperative, Taking the result data to explore methods for voice protection and be valuable for clinical diagnose and treatment. Method:Three hundred and fifth-three patients with thyroid papillary carcinoma without preoperative vocal dysfunction were treated with total thyroidectomy and single or bilateral central cervical lymph node dissection. At preoperative and the third day postoperative, videostroboscopic, acoustic analysis, voice handicap index 10(VHI-10)are measured. Result: At the third day postoperative, 294 (83.29%)patients have voice symptoms,the most common voice disorder is hoarseness in 105 cases (35.71%),phonasthenia in 78 cases(26.53%),unable speak louderly in 53 cases (18.03%), unable speak high-pitch in 24 cases (8.16%), unable speak low-pitch in 29 cases (9.86%), pronunciation leakage in 5 cases (1.70%). Videostroboscopic examinations are normal in all patients at the third day postoperative. The total score of VHI-10, Physiology(P), Emotion(E) dimensions in VHI-10 between preoperative and the third day postoperative are statistically significant (P<0.05). For male patients, the acoustic analysis (fundamental frequency, Harmonicto Noise Ratio, Shimmer and Maximum phonation time) are statistically significant between preoperative and the third day postoperative (P<0.05). For female patients, acoustic analysis (fundamental frequency, Harmonicto Noise Ratio, Shimmer, Jitter and Maximum phonation time) are statistically significant between preoperative and the third day postoperative (P<0.05). Conclusion:These patients who underwent total thyroidectomy with bilateral or unilateral central partment lymph node dissection may develop voice complications even their recurrent laryngealnerve be undamaged during the surgery. Changes in surgery and voice may cause changes in the patient's psychology, suggesting that clinicians need to have adequate communication between doctors and patients before surgery, pay attention to the patient's voice quality and psychological changes, and give positive intervention.

Abstract
Objective:To discuss the clinical diagnosis, therapies and prognosis of adenoid cystic carcinoma of external auditory canal.Method:Eleven patients with adenoid cystic carcinoma of external auditory canal, who had been admitted to West China hospital, Sichuan university from April 2009 to October 2015 were recruited and a retrospective analysis was performed.Result:All the 11 patients were treated with surgery except one elderly with T1 stage who was only treated with radiotherapy(RT),1 of the 10 patients treated with surgery were added on radiotherapy after surgery. Following up for 12-104 months,the patient who was treated with RT alone has survived with carcinoma for 51 months by now,among the remainder stage T1 patients,one was reoperated for local recurrence 95 months after surgery, and therefore survived without recurrence.The other 2 patients all survived with free-disease;in the stage T2 patients,one was lost to follow-up after identified local recurrence with pulmonary masses 12 months after surgery, another one committed suicide because of family problems 56 months after operation,and the other one survived without recurrence for 57 months after surgery; the stage T3 patient survived without recurrence for 26 months at present;in the T4 patients, one died after gamma knife therapy for local recurrent disease with brain metastasis 22 months after surgery, another one died from pulmonary metastasis 17 months after surgery,and the other one survived without recurrence for 56 months.Conclusion:Adenoid cystic carcinoma of external auditory canal is a rare disease with high misdiagnosis rate and progresses slowly.Surgery is the preferred therapy.The prognosis is closely related to disease clinical stage at presentation type of pathology and surgical approaches. Adenoid cystic carcinoma of external auditory canal is characteristically susceptible to local recurrence and distant metastasis,inaddition to routine re-exam of ear,the patients should be reviewed carefully to exclude of pulmonary,brain and kidney metastasis during follow-up.

Abstract
The plasma cell granuloma occurred in nasal cavity and sinus, which is rarely seen in clinical practice,the common clinical features included nasal congestion,nose bleeding,eye protrusion and olfactory impairment.Its clinical manifestations are similar to the clinical manifestations of malignant tumors, the correct diagnosis depends on histopathology and immunohistochemistry, and surgical treatment is the main method, can be supplemented by hormone therapy, radiotherapy,the prognosis could be better.

Abstract
Non-Hodgkin' s lymphoma is a kind of disease which might manifest in varied form. Unlike squamous cell carcinoma, the majority of laryngeal tumors, non-Hodgkin' s lymphoma in larynx is extremely rare. Here we present a primary laryngeal non-Hodgkin' s lymphoma, a 66-year-old female, with a history of recurrent sore throat and hoarseness for over 1 year. Laryngoscope and computed tomography result were presented, and surgical resection was performed under the suspension laryngoscope using CO₂ laser. According to the pathological immunohistochemistry result, the final diagnosis was laryngeal non-Hodgkin' s lymphoma. Postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy was applied. There was no recurrence.

Abstract
Objective:To investigatethe effect of voice therapy on anxious and depressive in patients with voice disorders.Method:The patients who received voicee therapy in our department from May 2014 to July 2016 were enrolled in our study and evaluated by self-rating anxiety scale (SAS) and self rating depression scale (SDS), before and after voice therapy.result:Before voicee therapy, the score of SAS and SDS were 47.52±11.15 and 48.63±8.70 respectively, which were higher than domestic norm (37.23±12.59 and 41.88±10.57 for SAS and SDS, respecative) with P< 0.05. After voice therapy, the score of SAS and SDS were 38.03±6.95 and 42.21±7.71, which were lower than the score of before voice therapy (P< 0.05). And compared with the domestic norm, the difference was not statistically significant (P> 0.05).Conclusion:The anxiety and depression scores of patients with voice disorders are higher than those of ordinary people. The voice therapy can effectively relieve anxiety and depression of patients with voice disease.
