Abstract
As one of the most widely used herbicides in agricultural industry, the residues of glyphosate (GLY) are frequent environmental pollutants. Freshwater planarian Dugesia japonica has been developed as a model for neurotoxicology. In this study, the effects of GLY on locomotion and feeding behavior, as well as neuroenzyme activities and mRNA expressions of D. japonica were determined. Additionally, histochemical localization was executed to explore the damage to the central nervous system (CNS) of planarians stressed by GLY. The results showed that the locomotor velocity, ingestion rate and the neuroenzyme activity were inhibited and the gene expressions were altered. Also, histo-architecture injury to CNS of planarians upon GLY exposure in a time-dependent manner was observed. Collectively, our results indicate that GLY can cause neurotoxicity to freshwater planarians representing as reduction in locomotor velocity and feeding rate by disturbing the neurotransmission systems and damaging the structure of CNS.

Abstract
Glyphosate (GLY) is one of the most widely used agrochemicals in the world, and its exposure has become a public health concern. The freshwater planarian is an ideal test organism for detecting the toxicity of pollutants and has been an emerging animal model in toxicological studies. Nevertheless, the underlying toxicity mechanism of GLY to planarians has not been thoroughly explored. To elucidate the toxicity effects and molecular mechanism involved in GLY exposure of planarians, we studied the acute toxicity, histological change, and transcriptional response of Dugesia japonica subjected to GLY. Significant morphological malformations and histopathological changes were observed in planarians after GLY exposure for different times. Also, a number of differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were obtained at 1, 3 and 5 d after exposure; Gene Ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) enrichment analysis of these DEGs were performed, and a global and dynamic view was obtained in planarians upon GLY exposure at the transcriptomic level. Furthermore, real-time quantitative PCR (qRT-PCR) was conducted on nine DEGs associated with detoxification, apoptosis, stress response, DNA repair, etc. The expression patterns were well consistent with the RNA sequencing (RNA-seq) results at different time points, which confirmed the reliability and accuracy of the transcriptome data. Collectively, our results established that GLY could pose adverse effects on the morphology and histo-architecture of D. japonica, and the planarians are capable of responding to the disadvantageous stress by dysregulating the related genes and pathways concerning immune response, detoxification, energy metabolism, DNA damage repair, etc. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of transcriptomic analyses of freshwater planarians exposed to environmental pollutants, and it provided detailed sequencing data deriving from transcriptome profiling to deepen our understanding the molecular toxicity mechanism of GLY to planarians.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study is to investigate the association of the liver and spleen signal intensity on MRI with anemia in patients with gynecologic cancer. METHODS 332 patients with gynecological cancer and 78 healthy women underwent MRI examination. Liver and spleen MRI parameters and laboratory tests were obtained within 1 week. The signal intensity ratios of liver and spleen to the paraspinous muscle were calculated on gradient echo T1-weighted images (T1WI) and T2-weighted images (T2WI) in both patients and healthy women, respectively. RESULTS The ratios of liver and spleen to paraspinous muscle on T1WI and T2WI were lower in patients than in the healthy women, respectively (all P<0.0001). The ratios of the liver and spleen to paraspinous muscle on T1WI and T2WI decreased with the increasing stage of anemia and decreasing of the hemoglobin levels (all P<0.001). The ratios of the liver to paraspinous muscle on T1WI, spleen to paraspinous muscle on T1WI, and the liver and spleen to paraspinous muscle on T2WI could predict anemia stage≥1 (AUC=0.576, 0.643, 0.688, and 0.756, respectively), ≥2 (AUC=0.743, 0.714, 0.891, and 0.922, respectively) and 3 (AUC=0.851, 0.822, 0.854, and 0.949, respectively). CONCLUSION T2WI-based spleen signal intensity ratios showed the highest potential for noninvasive evaluation of anemia in gynecological cancer.

Abstract
Objective: Most patients with asymptomatic colorectal diverticulosis are easily overlooked. However, some of diverticulosis become diverticulitis, bleeding and even perforation, which cause extensive harm to patients. The purpose of this study is to analyze the incidence, clinical features, diagnosis and treatment of colorectal diverticulosis in order to improve the clinical understanding of diverticulosis and its related complications. Methods: A descriptive cohort study was carried out. Clinical data of 554 patients with colorectal diverticulosis confirmed by CT, colonoscopy, digestive tract radiography or operation in Peking University First Hospital from January 2009 to June 2019 were retrospectively analyzed. Patients with malignant tumors, autoimmune diseases, long term use of immunosuppressive drugs, chronic liver diseases and renal diseases, and mental disorders were excluded. The analysis parameters included gender, onset age, clinical symptoms, location of diverticulitis, treatment and prognosis. According to the criteria established by the World Society of Emergency Surgery (WSES), acute diverticulitis was divided into 5 stages based on the extension of the infectious process. Stage 0 was simple diverticulitis and stage 1-4 was complicated diverticulitis. Results: Among the 554 patients with colorectal diverticulosis, 358 (64.6%) were males, the median onset age was 63 years; 191 patients (34.5%) had various digestive symptoms, of whom 113 (20.4%) had chronic constipation and abdominal distension, 78 (14.1%) had chronic diarrhea and abdominal pain; the other 363 patients had no obvious abdominal symptoms. Four hundred and six patients were found by colonoscopy and 465 patients were found by CT. Twenty-five patients were diagnosed by lower gastrointestinal tract radiography and 3 were confirmed during operation. There were 339 patients with multiple diverticula (61.2%) and 215 patients with single diverticulum (38.8%). 76.5% (424/554) of diverticula were located in colon, 37.0% (205/554) in ascending colon, 21.3% (118/554) in multiple sites, and 2.2% (12/554) in rectum. The median diameter of diverticulum was 7 mm, and 78 cases (14.1%) was ≥30 mm. Forty-nine patients (8.8%) developed acute diverticulitis, including 13 patients with simple diverticulitis and 36 patients with complicated diverticulitis. Among 36 patients with complicated diverticulitis, 29 (80.6%) were males, 27 (75.0%) had recurrent abdominal pain and fever before onset; diverticula of 25 cases were located in sigmoid colon; 11 cases in ascending colon. Nine cases developed sigmoid colon perforation and 8 cases developed vesicocolonic fistula, and these 17 patients underwent surgical treatment. The other 19 cases with complicated diverticulitis developed gastrointestinal bleeding, of whom 18 cases were male, 11 cases were located in ascending colon; 13 cases were healed after conservative treatment, 4 cases received endoscopic hemostatic intervention, and 2 cases underwent surgery. Conclusions: Colorectal diverticulosis is more common in male patients, and CT and colonoscopy are main diagnostic methods. The symptoms of complicated colonic diverticulitis are related to the location of diverticulum. In addition to symptomatic treatment, surgical procedures are the most important treatments.

Abstract
Objective: The surgical indications, resection extent and management principle of lateral lymph node dissection (LLND) in lower rectal cancer have been controversial between Eastern and Western countries. This study aims to provide a theoretical basis for the rational implementation of LLND by reviewing the changes of LLND strategy over the past 30 years in a single-center, and analyzing prognostic factors for the survival outcomes of patients with lateral lymph node metastasis (LLNM). Methods: A retrospective observational study was performed. Clinical data of 289 patients with rectal cancer who received LLND at the Department of General Surgery of Peking University First Hospital from 1990 to 2019 were collected. Patients were divided into three groups based on decades. There were 89 cases in 1990-1999 group, 92 cases in the 2000-2009 group, and 108 cases in the 2010-2019 group. Data analyzed: (1) patient baseline data; (2) surgery and postoperative recovery; (3) lateral lymph node dissection; (4) postoperative survival and prognosis of patients with positive lateral lymph nodes. The surgical methods and pathological results of LLND were compared between groups, and the prognostic risk factors of patients with LLNM were analyzed. Results: A total of 289 patients underwent radical resection with LLND' accounting for 6.3% of the 4542 patients with rectal cancer during the same period in our hospital. Except decade-by-decade increase in tumors with distance from anal verge ≤ 7 cm, the proportion of ulcerated tumors, and the proportion of neoadjuvant radiochemotherapy, the differences in other baseline data were not statistically significant among 3 decade groups (all P>0.05). The proportion of LLND in the 3 groups decreased decade by decade [9.9% (89/898) vs. 8.0% (92/1154) vs. 4.3% (108/2490), χ(2)=40.159, P<0.001]. The proportion of laparoscopic surgery and unilateral LLND increased, while the mean operative time, intraoperative blood loss, surgical complications above grade III and postoperative hospital stay decreased decade by decade. These 289 patients completed a total of 483 lateral dissections, including 95 cases of the unilateral dissection and 194 cases of the bilateral dissection. The proportion of LLND in the 3 groups decreased decade by decade [9.9% (89/898) vs. 8.0% (92/1154) vs. 4.3% (108/2510), P<0.001]. The median number of dissected lymph nodes in the internal iliac artery and obturator regions increased (2 vs. 3 vs. 3, P<0.001), but those in the common iliac and external iliac regions decreased significantly (4 vs. 3 vs. 2, P=0.014). A total of 71 patients with LLNM were identified. The rate of LLNM in the 2010-2019 group was significantly higher than that in the previous two groups [37.0% (40/108) vs. 16.9% (15/89) vs. 17.4% (16/92), P=0.001]. The patients with LLNM showed a poorer overall survival (OS) and disease-free survival (DFS) compared with negative lateral lymph nodes (P<0.001). There were statistically significant differences in 5-year OS rate (30.9% vs. 27.2% vs. 0, P=0.028) and 5-year DFS rate (28.3% vs. 16.0% vs. 0, P=0.038) among patients with only internal iliac lymph node metastasis, patients with only obturator lymph node metastasis, and patients with external iliac or common iliac lymph node metastasis. Multivariate analysis of prognostic factors showed that external iliac or common iliac lymph node metastasis was an independent risk factor for OS (HR=1.649, 95%CI: 1.087-2.501) and DFS (HR=1.714, 95%CI: 1.173-2.504) in patients with LLNM (all P<0.05) . The OS and DFS were not significant different in patients with LLNM among 3 decade groups. Conclusions: In the past decade, the proportion of LLND in rectal cancer has decreased significantly. However, LLNM rate has been significantly increased due to preoperative imaging assessments focusing on suspicious LLNM without compromising the survival. Internal iliac artery and obturator lymph nodes can be regarded as regional lymph nodes with a satisfactory prognosis after LLND. For suspected external iliac or common iliac lymph node metastasis, the significance of LLND remains to be further evaluated.

Abstract
Two new species of the genus Dugesia (Platyhelminthes, Tricladida, Dugesiidae) from the tropical monsoon forest in southern China are described on the basis of an integrative taxonomic study involving morphology, karyology, histology, and molecular analyses. The new species Dugesiacircumcisa Chen & Dong, sp. nov. is characterised by asymmetrical openings of the oviducts; right vas deferens opening at anterior portion of the seminal vesicle and the left one opening at mid-lateral portion of the seminal vesicle; two diaphragms in ejaculatory duct, the latter being ventrally displaced and opening at the tip of the penis papilla, which is provided with a nozzle; wide duct connecting male atrium and common atrium; chromosome complement triploid with 24 metacentric chromosomes. The other new species, Dugesiaverrucula Chen & Dong, sp. nov., is characterised by the large size of the living worm, usually exceeding 3.5 cm in length; asymmetrical openings of the oviducts; subterminal opening of ventrally displaced ejaculatory duct; vasa deferentia symmetrically opening into the postero-lateral portion of the seminal vesicle; well-developed duct between the seminal vesicle and diaphragm; single dorsal bump near the root of the penis papilla; bursal canal with pleated wall and spacious posterior section; unstalked cocoons; chromosome complement diploid with 16 metacentric chromosomes. Inter-specific molecular distances and their positions in the phylogenetic tree reveal that D.circumcisa and D.verrucula are clearly separated from their congeners.

Abstract
Autophagy-related gene 6 (Atg6) plays an essential role in autophagy, and loss of its function impairs neurogenesis. Planarian is a good model for the study of the central nervous system (CNS) regeneration. It can regenerate a new head de novo in 1 week following decapitation. Therefore, functional analysis of Atg6 in planarian CNS regeneration is very important for understanding of autophagy in the regulation of neurogenesis. In this work, we reported the molecular characteristics of Atg6 in Dugesia japonica (DjAtg6) for the first time and examined its function by RNAi. The full-length cDNA of DjAtg6 is 1366 bp encoding 423 amino acids. The deduced amino sequence of DjAtg6 contains the coil-coil domain and β-α-repeated autophagy-specific domain shared by ATG6/Beclin 1 family. Following amputation before and after the pharynx, DjAtg6 transcripts increased and were mainly distributed in the newly regenerated brain structure. RNAi-DjAtg6 delayed planarian head regeneration with a small size of brain, and decreased the expression levels of neural-related genes. In addition, our results revealed that RNAi-DjAtg6 did not affect the stem cell proliferation, but down-regulated the cell migration-related genes mmp1 and mmp2. Furthermore, RNAi-mmp1 and RNAi-mmp2 delayed planarian head regeneration. Therefore, our results suggest that DjAtg6 is important for planarian CNS regeneration. The abnormal CNS regeneration caused by RNAi-DjAtg6 may be related to cell migration, but the detailed mechanism needs to be further investigated.

Abstract
Objective: To explore the otological and hearing characteristics in children with Turner syndrome (TS), to determine risk factors of hearing loss, and to discuss algorithms for future surveillance. Methods: The clinical data of otolaryngology in children with TS from January 2018 to April 2020 were reviewed retrospectively. A total of 46 female children with TS, aged from 5 to 18 years were enrolled. Karyotypes included 17 cases (37.0%) of monosomy, 16 cases (34.7%) of mosaicism, and 13 cases (28.3%) of abnormal X chromosome structures. The otoscopic characteristics, audiological performance, and otologic diagnoses were evaluated. Multivariate logistic regression and Mann-Whitney U test were used for statistical analysis. Results: The most common otologic comorbidity was otitis media with effusion (OME), including 20 cases (43.5%) with 33 ears (35.9%). 14 cases (30.4%) were diagnosed with hearing loss. The regression analysis revealed that the age (OR=1.345, 95%CI: 1.072-1.760) and comorbidity of OME (OR=9.460, 95%CI: 2.065-60.350) were risk factors associated with hearing loss. In TS with OME, when compared with the mean air conduction threshold, the hearing loss of the group with pars flaccida retractions was significantly higher ((24.3±13.8) dB HL vs. (14.4±4.2) dB HL, U=59.500, P=0.008) than that of the group with none retractions. Conclusion: OME and hearing loss are common in children with TS. As age increases or suffers from OME, the risk of hearing loss increases.

Abstract
Two new species of the genus Dugesia (Platyhelminthes, Tricladida, Dugesiidae) from Hainan Island of China are described on the basis of morphological, karyological and molecular data. Dugesiasemiglobosa Chen & Dong, sp. nov. is mainly characterized by a hemispherical, asymmetrical penis papilla with ventrally displaced ejaculatory duct opening terminally at tip of penis papilla; vasa deferentia separately opening into mid-dorsal portion of intrabulbar seminal vesicle; two diaphragms in the ejaculatory duct; copulatory bursa formed by expansion of bursal canal, lined with complex stratified epithelium, which projects through opening in bursa towards intestine, without having open communication with the gut; mixoploid chromosome complement diploid (2n = 16) and triploid (3n = 24), with metacentric chromosomes. Dugesiamajuscula Chen & Dong, sp. nov. is mainly characterized by oviducts opening asymmetrically into female reproductive system; hyperplasic ovaries; expanded posterior section of bursal canal; vasa deferentia separately opening into mid-dorsal portion of seminal vesicle; asymmetrical penis papilla due to ventral course of ejaculatory duct, which has subterminal and dorsal opening at tip papilla; mixoploid chromosome complement diploid (2n = 16) and triploid (3n = 24); chromosomes metacentric. Apart from their anatomy, separate species status of the two new species is supported also by their genetic distances and by their positions in the phylogenetic tree. The sexualization process may have been induced by the lower temperatures, in comparison with their natural habitat, under which the worms were cultured in the laboratory.

Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the factors affecting the degree of radical resection and the prognosis of patients with locally recurrent rectal cancer (LRRC). Methods: A retrospective case-control study was performed. Clinical data of 111 patients with LRRC undergoing operation at the General Surgery Department of Peking University First Hospital from January 2009 to August 2019 were analyzed retrospectively. The "Peking University First Hospital F typing" was performed according to the preoperative images of the pelvic involvement. The pelvis was assigned into four directions: the front wall, lateral sides of the pelvic wall and the sacrum. According to the degree of pelvic wall involvement, F typing included F0 type (no involvement of the pelvic wall, the cancer only involved the adjacent organs or invaded conteriorly the urinary tract, genital organs or small intestine), F1 type (cancer involved the pelvic wall in one direction, such as the sacrum, or one side of the pelvic wall), F2 type (cancer involved the pelvic wall in two directions) and F3 type (cancer involved the pelvic wall in three directions). Case inclusion criteria: (1) LRRC was confirmed by imaging and pathological examination of samples (puncture or endoscopic biopsy); (2) complete clinical and follow-up data; (3) informed consent of patient. Those with dysfunction of heart, lung, etc., intolerance of operation, F3 type indicated by image, and distant metastasis were excluded. The degree of radical resection was evaluated according to the postoperative pathological results. Patients were followed up every 12 months and related examinations were arranged. The univariate analysis of radical resection was performed by χ(2) test, and the multivariate analysis was performed by logistic methods. The survival rate was calculated by Kaplan-Meier method and the survival curve was drawn. The survival rate was compared by log-rank test. Cox proportional hazards model was used to analyze the factors affecting the prognosis of patients with LRRC. Results: A total of 111 patients were included in this study. Of 111 patients, 59 were male and 52 were female; recurrent age of 36 cases was ≥ 65 years old; CEA level of 48 cases was ≥15 μg/L. According to the "Peking University First Hospital F typing", 70 cases were F0 type, 38 F1 type and 3 F2 type. Surgical procedures were abdominoperineal resection (n=28), posterior pelvic exenteration (n=32), and total pelvic exenteration (n=51, including 1 case of TPE combined with sacrectomy). According to the postoperative pathological results, R0, R1 and R2 resections were 83, 20 and 8 cases, respectively. Univariate analysis showed that the degree of radical resection was associated with the secondary surgical procedure, F typing and lymph node metastasis (all P<0.05). Multivariate analysis showed that F typing (F1-F2) was an independent risk factor for non- R0 resection (OR=37.256, 95%CI:8.572 to 161.912, P<0.001). The morbidity of operative complications was 22.5% (25/111); the perioperative mortality was 1.8% (2/111); the local recurrence rate after the second operation was 37.8% (42/111). The 3- and 5-year overall survival rates were 41.2% and 21.9% respectively. The 3-year survival rates of patients with and without postoperative chemotherapy were 52.7% and 32.4% respectively (P=0.005). The 3-year survival rates of patients with lower (<15 μg/L) and higher CEA level (≥15 μg/L) were 52.9% and 24.3% respectively (P<0.001). The 3-year survival rates of patients with R0, R1 and R2 resection were 49.8%, 21.3% and 8.5% respectively (P=0.002). The 3-year survival rates of patients with F0, F1 and F2 type were 52.7%, 22.0% and 0 respectively (P<0.001). Cox analysis confirmed that the degree of radical resection (HR=2.088, 95%CI:1.095 to 3.979, P=0.025), the CEA level before the secondary operation (HR=1.857, 95%CI:1.157 to 2.980, P=0.010) and postoperative chemotherapy (HR=1.826, 95%CI:1.137 to 2.934, P=0.013) were independent factors affecting the prognosis. Conclusions: The indication of LRRC surgical treatments must be strictly limited. Evaluation of the fixation site to the pelvic wall is helpful for improving the rate of R0 resection. Lower preoperative CEA level, radical resection and postoperative chemotherapy are protective factors of prolonged overall survival time of patients with LRRC.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To determine diagnostic performance of diffusion-weighted (DW) magnetic resonance (MR) volume and apparent diffusion coefficient values (ADCs) for assessing lymph node metastases (LNM) and good response after chemoradiation therapy (CRT) in patients with locally advanced rectal cancer (LARC). MATERIALS AND METHODS This retrospective study consisted of 61 patients with LARC who underwent pre- and post-CRT DW images. Two radiologists independently placed free-hand regions of interest in each tumor-containing section on DW images to calculate pre- and post-CRT tumor volume and tumor volume reduction rates (Δvolume). Regions of interest were drawn to include tumor on maximum cross-sectional slice to obtain ADCs. Areas under the receiver operating characteristic curves (AUCs) were calculated to evaluate diagnostic performance in identifying LNM and good response after CRT using these parameters. RESULTS Inter-observer agreement and intra-observer agreement were excellent for pre- and post-CRT DW MR volume (intraclass correlation coefficient [ICC], 0.889-0.948) and moderate for pre- and post-CRT ADCs (ICC, 0.535-0.811). AUCs for identifying LNM were 0.508 for pre-CRT DW MR volume versus 0.705 for pre-CRT ADC, 0.855 for post-CRT DW MR volume versus 0.679 for post-CRT ADC, and 0.887 for Δvolume versus 0.533 for ΔADC. AUCs for identifying good response were 0.518 for pre-CRT volume versus 0.506 for pre-CRT ADC, 0.975 for post-CRT volume versus 0.723 for post-CRT ADC, and 0.987 for Δvolume versus 0.655 for ΔADC. CONCLUSION DW MR Δvolume provided high diagnostic performance in discriminating LNM after CRT. DW MR Δvolume was equally as accurate as post-CRT DW MR volume for evaluating good response. Abstract
This study is to investigate optimum apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) parameter for predicting lymphovascular invasion (LVI), lymph node metastasis (LNM) and histology type in resectable rectal cancer. 58 consecutive patients with resectable rectal cancer were retrospectively identified. The minimum, maximum, average ADC and ADC difference value were obtained on ADC maps. Maximum ADC and ADC difference value increased with the appearance of LVI (r = 0.501 and 0.495, P < 0.001, respectively) and development of N category (r = 0.615 and 0.695, P < 0.001, respectively). ADC difference value tended to rise with lower tumor differentiation (r = - 0.269, P = 0.041). ADC difference value was an independent risk factor for predicting LVI (odds ratio = 1.323; P = 0.005) and LNM (odds ratio = 1.526; P = 0.005). Maximum ADC and ADC difference value could distinguish N0 from N1 category, N0 from N1-N2, N0-N1 from N2 (all P < 0.001). Only ADC difference value could distinguish histology type (P = 0.041). ADC difference value had higher area under the receiver operating characteristic curve than maximum ADC in identifying LVI (0.828 vs 0.797), N0 from N1 category (0.947 vs 0.847), N0 from N1-N2 (0.935 vs 0.874), and N0-N1 from N2 (0.814 vs 0.770). ADC difference value may be superior to the other ADC value parameters to predict LVI, N category and histology type of resectable rectal cancer.

Abstract
As the worldwide top-selling herbicide, glyphosate is ubiquitously distributed in the natural environment, and its influence on the ecological safety and human health has being increasingly concerned. In this study, mRNA expressions of GPX and three heat shock protein genes in freshwater planarian Dugesia japonica in response to glyphosate were determined, and two oxidative stress parameters were measured. The results suggested that GPX activity can be used as a more sensitive biomarker in contrast with GPX gene expression, and mRNA expressions of Hsp70, Hsp90 genes are more sensitive than Hsp40 for planarians in response to glyphosate stress. Besides, the deduced T-AOC as well as varied GPX activity and mRNA expression levels of Hsps also indicated that glyphosate exposure would inhibit antioxidation and induce oxidative stress in D. japonica, while specific antioxidant systems and stress proteins tried to protect cells by their own regulation. The results of this study will be helpful to elucidate the stress response mechanisms of freshwater planarians to herbicide glyphosate.

Abstract
Background Pulmonary artery aneurysm (PAA), usually associated with congenital heart disease (CHD), is a very rare clinical condition. Pulmonary artery dissection (PAD) is considered the most life-threatening complication of PAA, and patients can progress from being asymptomatic to sudden death. We report the following case of PAA associated with complicated congenital heart disease and simultaneous chronic PAD. To our knowledge, few such complicated cases have ever been reported. Case presentation A 36-year-old male presented to our hospital with a 10-year history of heart fatigue after activities and aggravated for 2 years. Computed tomography angiography (CTA) and echocardiogram showed a giant main pulmonary artery aneurysm (14 cm) with complicated congenital heart disease (a small patent ductus arteriosus, ventricular septal defects, aortic coarctation). Chronic PAD, which was mistaken for a pulmonary valve before operation, was detected during surgery. Conclusions PAA associated with complicated CHD and simultaneous PAD is very rare, and its clinical symptoms are varied. Radiologists and surgeons should pay attention to determining whether this patient simultaneously had PAD when PAA was detected on preoperative CTA imaging.

Abstract
As the top-selling herbicide in the world, glyphosate distributes widely in natural environment and its influence on the ecological security and human health has attracted more and more concern. Glutathione S-transferases (GSTs) are a well-characterized superfamily of isoenzymes for cellular defense against exogenous toxic substances and therefore protect organisms from injury. In this study, the complete cDNA sequence of GST gene (named as Dja-GST) in freshwater planarian Dugesia japonica was firstly cloned by means of RACE method. The full-length Dja-GST comprises of 706 nucleotides which encodes a polypeptide of 200 amino acids. Dja-GST has two representative GST domains at the N- and C-termini. The conservative GST-N domain includes G-site Y8, F9, R14, W39, K43, P52 and S64, while the variable GST-C domain contains H-site K104, V156, D159 and L161. Sequence analysis, phylogenetic tree reconstruction and multiple alignment collectively indicate that Dja-GST belongs to the Sigma class of GST superfamily. Also, GST gene expression profile, GST enzymatic activity and MDA content in response to glyphosate exposure were systematically investigated and the correlations among them were analyzed. The results suggest that glyphosate exposure modified the mRNA transcription and enzymatic activity of GST, as well as the MDA content in planarians, indicating that Dja-GST might play an important part in organisms defending against oxidative stress induced by glyphosate. This work lays a molecular foundation for further exploring the exact functions of Dja-GST and gives an important implication for evaluating the ecological environment effects of herbicide glyphosate.

Abstract
Objective: To research build a kind of occupational disease risk assessment model which provides scientific basis for prevention and control of occupational diseases. Methods: Based on the principle of information diffusion, this paper uses spread function to extend the incomplete gathered information, establishes the mapping relationship between observation samples and risk probability distributions, and constructs the occupational disease risk assessment model, to analyzes the risk data of occupational disease reported cases in Guangdong Province in the past five years. Results: Through evaluation analysis, every year, 200-300 cases of pneumoconiosis probability is 67.77%, 100-200 cases of occupational poisoning probability is 68.52%, 20-40 cases of occupational cancers probability is 71.62%, each year, the incidence of occupation otorhinolaryngology and oral diseases in 200 cases was 62.23%. Conclusion: A model of occupational disease risk assessment based on information diffusion theory is constructed, the evaluation result is basically consistent with the actual situation of occupational disease, which can provide reference for occupational disease prevention and control.

Abstract
Objectives: To examine the value of multi-slice spiral CT angiography (MSCTA) in the analysis of anatomical variation and structural classification of right colon vessels. Methods: From August 2015 to August 2017, 198 patients (96 of whom underwent laparoscopic radical resection of right colon cancer) at Department of General surgery of Peking University First Hospital were retrospectively collected, and the results of abdominal enhanced CT scan were collected and three-dimensional reconstruction of blood vessels was performed. There were 104 males and 94 females. The age was 64(27) years (M(Q(R)), range: 19 to 87 years). Right gastroepiploic vein, anterior superior pancreaticoduodenal vein, right colonic vein (RCV), superior right colonic vein, ileocolon artery or vein (ICA or ICV), middle colon artery or vein (MCA or MCV) and Henle trunk were observed and recorded respectively. The anatomical relationship between the positions of blood vessels, the length of Henle trunk and surgical trunk were measured. Results: ICV and ICA were the most constant anatomic structures. The ICV/ICA of all patients came directly from SMV/SMA, 36.9% (73/198) ICV going in front of SMV and 63.1% (125/198) behind SMV. 72.2% (143/198) of the patients had RCV imported into Henle trunk and the rest into SMV. Middle colonic vein (MCV) could be observed in 81.3% (161/198) of the cases. 81.4% (131/161) of MCV were imported into SMV, 16.8% (27/161) into Henle trunk, 1.2% (2/161) into the first jejunal vein and 0.6% (1/161) into the splenic vein. Henle trunk was divided into 4 types, among which the occurrence probability of gastric node and pancreatic trunk was the highest. The dry length of Henle trunk was (0.82±0.39) cm (range: 0.37 to 1.68 cm). The length of surgical trunk was (2.54±0.83) cm (range: 1.57 to 3.95 cm). Accuracy of MSCTA results was 96.9%(93/96). Conclusions: Anatomical variation of blood vessels in the right colon is common. Abdominal CT angiography can accurately determine the anatomical structure of the blood vessels in the right colon.

Abstract
Heavy metal pollution is a global health issue affecting people worldwide, and the exploration of sensitive biomarkers to assess the toxicity of heavy metals is an important work for researchers. Cathepsin L, role as a tissue-specific biomarker to assess the biological effects of environmental pollutants, has not received much attention. In this work, the full-length cDNA of cathepsin L gene from the planarian Dugesia japonica (designated DjCatL) was cloned by rapid amplification of cDNA ends (RACE) technique. The cDNA sequence of DjCatL is 1161 bp, which encodes a protein of 346 amino acids with a molecular weight of 39.03 kDa. Sequence analysis revealed that DjCatL contains highly conserved ERF/WNIN, GNFD, and GCXGG motifs, which are the features of the cathepsin L protein family. Whole-mount in situ hybridization (WISH) results revealed that the transcripts of DjCatL are specifically distributed in the intestinal system, suggesting that this gene is related to food digestion in planarians. Both quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) and WISH results revealed that the transcriptional levels of DjCatL are inhibited significantly by heavy metal (Cd2+, Hg2+, and Cu2+) exposure in a dose-dependent manner. Therefore, we proposed that cathepsin L can be used as a tissue-specific biomarker to assess the heavy metal pollution in the aquatic environment.

Abstract
Objective: To evaluate ROMA in assessing malignancy risk of pelvic mass with Meta-analysis. Methods: PubMed, ISI Web of Science, and Cochrane literature were searched until December 2017. Combine and analyse sensitivity, specificity, positive likelihoodratio, negative likelihood ratio, diagonistic odd ratio and AUC. Results: Data of ROMA was retrieved from 8 studies, sensitivity and specificity were 86% and 77% respectively, and AUC was 0.899. Conclusion: According to Meta analysis of previous studies, sensitivity and specificity of ROMA are high enough to be used as an index in setting of ovarian cancer diagnosis.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE. The purpose of this study was to assess whether MR volumetric data on DW and T2-weighted MR images are correlated with lymphovascular invasion and lymph node metastases in resectable rectal cancer. MATERIALS AND METHODS. This retrospective study consisted of 50 consecutive patients with rectal cancer who underwent radical surgery within 1 week of MRI. The gross tumor volume was determined on both diffusion-weighted and T2-weighted MR images and correlated with pathologic lymphovascular invasion and lymph node metastases using univariate, multivariate, and ROC curve analyses. RESULTS. Both gross tumor volume values showed correlations with lymphovascular invasion (r = 0.750 vs r = 0.710; p < 0.0001) and lymph node metastases (r = 0.780 vs r = 0.755; p < 0.0001). Both values were associated with lymphovascular invasion and lymph node metastases in univariate analysis (all p < 0.0001), whereas only the DWI-based value was an independent risk factor for lymphovascular invasion (odds ratio = 1.207; p = 0.005) and lymph node metastases (odds ratio = 1.420; p = 0.005) in multivariate analysis. Both values could distinguish between N0 and N1, N0 and N1-N2, and N0-N1 and N2 disease (all p < 0.0001) in the Mann-Whitney U test. The area under the ROC curve was higher for the DWI-based value in lymphovascular invasion (0.899 vs 0.877), N0 vs N1 (0.865 vs 0.827), N0 vs N1-N2 (0.934 vs 0.911), and N0-N1 vs N2 (0.932 vs 0.927). CONCLUSION. Tumor volumetry data correlated with both lymphovascular invasion and lymph node metastases in resectable rectal cancer. In particular, the DWI-based gross tumor volume showed the most potential for noninvasive preoperative evaluation of lymphovascular invasion and lymph node metastases.

Abstract
As an important antioxidant enzyme, the superoxide dismutase (SOD) can protect aerobic organisms from oxidative damage through catalyzing the dismutation of superoxide into hydrogen peroxide and oxygen. The SODs have been cloned in some species and their dynamic expression or enzymatic activity in response to environmental stressors were investigated. In the current study, the full-length cDNA of two SODs from freshwater planarian Dugesia japonica were firstly cloned (named as DjCuZnSOD and DjMnSOD, respectively). The complete cDNA of DjCuZnSOD consists of 661 nucleotides encoding 186 amino acids while the 765 bp DjMnSOD encodes a polypeptide of 226 residues. Sequence analysis and multiple alignment showed that DjCuZnSOD possesses two CuZnSOD family signature motifs and an N-terminal signal peptide suggesting it is an extracellular secretory protein. DjMnSOD possesses the MnSOD family signature sequence and is predicted to be located in mitochondrion with a mitochondrial targeting sequence. Phylogenetic analysis based on CuZnSOD and MnSOD orthologs from representative species further verified that DjCuZnSOD is an extracellular CuZnSOD while DjMnSOD is a mitochondrial MnSOD. For the purpose of studying their potential role against environmental pollutants, D. japonica were exposed to glyphosate or 1-decyl-3-methylimidazolium bromide ([C10mim]Br), and the mRNA expression levels of DjCuZnSOD and DjMnSOD along with total SOD activity were measured. The results showed that DjCuZnSOD exhibited more sensitive expression profiles in response to environmental pollutants in contrast with DjMnSOD, and the total SOD activity in response to both pollutants was more related to the expression level of DjCuZnSOD than to DjMnSOD, indicating that the mRNA expression of CuZnSOD would be a more sensitive biomarker than MnSOD in monitoring the pollution of aquatic environment and CuZnSOD might play more important role than MnSOD in eliminating superoxide anions caused by pollutants in D. japonica.

Abstract
Catalase (CAT) is an important antioxidant enzyme that protects aerobic organisms against oxidative damage by degrading hydrogen peroxide to oxygen and water. CAT mRNAs have been cloned from many species and employed as useful biomarkers of oxidative stress. In the present study, we cloned the cDNA sequence of CAT gene from freshwater planarian Dugesia japonica (designated as DjCAT) by means of RACE method. Sequence analysis and multiple alignment jointly showed that the full-length cDNA sequence consists of 1734 nucleotides, encoding 506 amino acids. Three catalytic amino acid residues of His71, Asn144 and Tyr354, two CAT family signature sequences of a proximal active site signature (60FDRERIPERVVHAKGGGA77) and a heme-ligand signature motif (350RLFSYRDTQ358) are highly conserved, suggesting that the DjCAT belongs to the NADPH and heme-binding CAT family and has similar functions. In addition, the transcriptional level of CAT gene and activity of CAT enzyme upon acute exposure of environmental pollutants glyphosate and 1-decyl-3-methylimidazolium bromide ([C10mim]Br) were investigated systematically. The variation of CAT mRNA expression in D. japonica was quantified by real-time PCR and the results indicated that it was up-regulated after exposure to glyphosate or [C10mim]Br with a dose-dependent manner but not linearly. Even though the variation trend of CAT activity upon glyphosate stress was not monotonously increased and inconsistent with that after [C10mim]Br exposure on day 1 and 3 sampling time, with the duration prolonged to day 5 they both presented a dose-dependent increase and the differences achieved extreme significance in all treated groups compared to the control. These findings suggested that DjCAT plays an important role in antioxidant defense in D. japonica, and the mRNA expression of CAT would also be used as an effective biomarker to monitor the pollution in aquatic environment just like its corresponding enzyme.

Methods: From May, 2015 to May, 2017, four uteri retrieval procedures, characterized with radical hysterectomy and uterine vascular pedicles dissection, were performed in multi-organ brain-dead donors.The uterus was the third authorized organ after the kidney and liver retrieval procedures in the first two cases.The uterine pedicles included the uterus, ovaries, fallopian tubes, the upper one-third of the vagina and internal iliac vessels or external iliac vessels.The perfusion of the uterus was conducted after the retrieval for evaluating the availability, followed by histopathological examination of the uterine issues per 30 minutes. Results: Since the uterine vein was quite difficult to identify and dissect in the first two case, which result in the rupture of triple uterine veins.Therefore, the uterine venous vessels including uterine vein connected with internal iliac vein and internal iliac arteries were selected as vascular grafts and dissected successfully in the last two cases, which could be perfused with the mixture of 4 ℃ heparinized physiological saline through each artery because of shortening the surgical time and arranging the uterine procurement as the first authorized organ procedure.Mean (SD) operative time was 152.5±39.0 min (115-215 min, n=4). Conclusion: Our preliminary experience indicated that the uterus could be retrieved from the brain-dead multi-organ donors and transplanted to the recipient.The attempt of skeletonizing the uterine veins should be replaced by dissection of internal iliac vein.

Abstract
Purpose To determine whether gross tumor volume of resectable gastric adenocarcinoma on multidetector computed tomography could predict presence of lymphovascular invasion and T-stages. Results Gross tumor volume increased with the lymphovascular invasion (r = 0.426, P < 0.0001) and T stage (r = 0.656, P < 0.0001). Univariate analysis showed gross tumor volume could predict lymphovascular invasion (P < 0.0001). Multivariate analyses indicated gross tumor volume as an independent risk factor of lymphovascular invasion (P = 0.026, odds ratio = 2.284). The Mann-Whitney U test showed gross tumor volume could distinguish T2 from T3, T1 from T2–T4a, T1–T2 from T3–T4a and T1–T3 from T4a (P = 0.000). In the development cohort, gross tumor volume could predict lymphovascular invasion (cutoff, 15.92 cm3; AUC, 0.760), and distinguish T2 from T3 (cutoff, 10.09 cm3; AUC, 0.828), T1 from T2-T4a (cutoff, 8.20 cm3; AUC, 0.860), T1-T2 from T3-T4a (cutoff, 15.88 cm3; AUC, 0.883), and T1-T3 from T4a (cutoff, 21.53 cm3; AUC, 0.834). In validation cohort, gross tumor volume could predict presence of lymphovascular invasion (AUC, 0.742), and distinguish T2 from T3 (AUC, 0.861), T1 from T2-T4a (AUC, 0.859), T1–T2 from T3–T4a (AUC, 0.875), and T1–T3 from T4a (AUC, 0.773). Materials and Methods 360 consecutive patients with gastric adenocarcinoma were retrospectively identified. Gross tumor volume was evaluated on multidetector computed tomography images. Statistical analysis was performed to determine whether gross tumor volume could predict presence of lymphovascular invasion and T-stages. Cutoffs of gross tumor volume were first investigated in 212 patients and then validated in an independent 148 patients using area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) for predicting lymphovascular invasion and T-stages. Conclusions Gross tumor volume of resectable gastric adenocarcinoma at multidetector computed tomography demonstrated capability in predicting lymphovascular invasion and distinguishing T-stages.

Abstract
The aim of this study was to evaluate the genotoxic potential of an urban river - the Wei River in Xinxiang, China using randomly amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) assay in planarians. The results showed that the total number of polymorphic bands and varied bands in RAPD patterns of treated planarians decreased with the water sample site far away from the sewage outlet of a factory. In addition, the genome template stability of treated groups decreased and the degree of the decline was negatively related to the distance between the sample site and the sewage outlet, suggesting that the Wei River water had genotoxicity effects on planarians and strengthening the management of the Wei River was necessary. Furthermore, this work also indicated that RAPD assay in planarians was a very promising test for environmental monitoring studies.

Abstract
The randomly amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) assay has been used to detect DNA alternation and mutation recently. However, the effectiveness of this method in detecting DNA damage in planarians, a model organism for assessing the toxicity of environmental pollutants is unknown. In the present study, RAPD assay was used to detect the DNA damage in planarians treated by the ionic liquid 1-octyl-3-methylimidazolium bromide ([C8mim]Br) for the first time. Among the 20 test RAPD primers, 13 primers with 60-70% GC content produced unique polymorphic band profiles. A total of 60 bands were observed in the untreated control planarians. In comparison with the control group, the [C8mim]Br-treated groups displayed differences in RAPD patterns in the band intensity, disappearance of normal bands and appearance of new bands. The variation of RAPD profiles showed both concentration- and time-effect relationships. Meanwhile, the genomic template stability (GTS) of treated planarians decreased and exhibited negative correlation to the exposure concentration and time of [C8mim]Br. Our results suggested that [C8mim]Br had genotoxic effects on planarians, and this DNA damage analysis would lay the foundation for further elucidating the toxicity mechanisms of ionic liquids on planarians. Furthermore, RAPD analysis was proved to be a highly sensitive method for the detection of DNA damage induced by environmental pollutants like toxic chemicals on planarians.

Abstract
Non-erosive reflux disease (NERD) is an independent subtype of gastroesophageal reflux disease, and it is often concomitant with anxiety and/or depression, which seriously influence the patient's quality of life. This article summarizes the research progress of NERD with regard to the pathogenesis of NERD and NERD with anxiety and/or depression, the effect of common treatments on NERD, and psychological intervention for auxiliary treatment of NERD (including establishing a good relationship between doctors and patients, psychological hints, health education, social support and so on). Some deficiencies in the understanding and treatment of NERD are pointed out. In addition, the following suggestions are put forward: more attention should be paid to the psychological factors of patients and psychological intervention should be adopted in the clinical practice and study of NERD; further research should be made on the mechanism of psychological intervention so as to form a unified understanding; epidemiological research and evidence-based medicine research should be carried out to explore the psychological intervention norms on NERD with anxiety and/or depression, in order to improve the curative effect of NERD and the quality of life of patients.

Abstract
Graphene, whose absorbance is approximately independent of wavelength, allows broadband light–matter interactions with ultrafast responses. The interband optical absorption of graphene can be saturated readily under strong excitation, thereby enabling scientists to exploit the photonic properties of graphene to realize ultrafast lasers. The evanescent field interaction scheme of the propagating light with graphene covered on a D-shaped fibre or microfibre has been employed extensively because of the nonblocking configuration. Obviously, most of the fibre surface is unused in these techniques. Here, we exploit a graphene-clad microfibre (GCM) saturable absorber in a mode-locked fibre laser for the generation of ultrafast pulses. The proposed all-surface technique can guarantee a higher efficiency of light–graphene interactions than the aforementioned techniques. Our GCM-based saturable absorber can generate ultrafast optical pulses within 1.5 μm. This saturable absorber is compatible with current fibre lasers and has many merits such as low saturation intensities, ultrafast recovery times, and wide wavelength ranges. The proposed saturable absorber will pave the way for graphene-based wideband photonics.

Abstract
The activities of antioxidant enzymes and the levels of glutathione (GSH) and malondialdehyde (MDA) were determined when freshwater planarian Dugesia japonica was exposed to different concentrations of 1-octyl-3-methylimidazolium bromide ([C8mim]Br) for one, three, and five days. The results showed that superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity began to increase in all treated groups after three days of exposure, while catalase (CAT) activity was inhibited after the first day, but increased notably on the fifth day except for the lowest concentration group. The activity of glutathione peroxidase (GPX) was induced from the first day of exposure and increased significantly after five days in all treated groups. During the experiment, the levels of intracellular GSH in all treated groups were higher than that of the control group. Changes in MDA suggest that [C8mim]Br is toxic to D japonica and may result in lipid peroxidation in planarian. Our results also indicate that GPX as well as GSH seem to be more sensitive biomarkers of oxidative stress compared with SOD and CAT.

Abstract
AIM: To investigate whether liver lobe volume and albumin (ALB) could predict the presence and severity of liver cirrhosis, and esophageal varices.
METHODS: Seventy-one cirrhotic patients with hepatitis B and 21 healthy individuals were enrolled in this study. All the participants underwent abdominal enhanced magnetic resonance imaging to measure each liver lobe volume, and biochemical workup for testing ALB and Child-Pugh class. All cirrhotic patients underwent upper gastrointestinal endoscopy to show the presence of cirrhotic esophageal varices. Right liver lobe volume (RV), left medial liver lobe volume (LMV), left lateral liver lobe volume (LLV), and caudate lobe volume (CV) were measured using enhanced magnetic resonance imaging. The ratios of RV to ALB (RV/ALB), LMV to ALB (LMV/ALB), LLV to ALB (LLV/ALB) and CV to ALB (CV/ALB) were calculated. Statistical analyses were performed to determine whether and how the combination of liver lobe volume measured using magnetic resonance imaging and albumin could predict the presence and severity of liver cirrhosis, and the presence of esophageal varices.
RESULTS: RV, LMV, LLV and CV decreased (r = -0.51-0.373; all P < 0.05), while RV/ALB increased (r = 0.424; P < 0.05), with the progress of Child-Pugh class of liver cirrhosis. RV, LMV, CV, LLV/ALB and CV/ALB could identify presence of liver cirrhosis; LLV and LMV could distinguish Child-Pugh class A from B; RV, LMV, LLV, CV, RV/ALB and LLV/ALB could distinguish class A from C; RV and LLV/ALB could differentiate B from C; and RV, RV/ALB and CV/ALB could identify presence of esophageal varices (all P < 0.05). Among these parameters, CV/ALB could best identify the presence of liver cirrhosis, with an area under receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) of 0.860, a sensitivity of 82.0% and a specificity of 83.0%. LLV could best distinguish class A from B, with an AUC of 0.761, a sensitivity of 74.4% and a specificity of 73.1%. RV could best distinguish class A from C, with an AUC of 0.900, a sensitivity of 90.3% and a specificity of 84.5%. LLV/ALB could best distinguish class B from C, with an AUC of 0.900, a sensitivity of 93.8% and a specificity of 81.5%. RV/ALB could best identify esophageal varices, with an AUC of 0.890, a sensitivity of 80.0% and a specificity of 83.5%.
CONCLUSION: The combination of liver lobe volume and ALB has potential to identify presence and severity of cirrhosis, and presence of esophageal varices.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate MRI features and associated histological and pathological changes of hilar and extrahepatic big bile duct cholangiocarcinoma with different morphological sub-types, and its value in differentiating between nodular cholangiocarcinoma (NCC) and intraductal growing cholangiocarcinoma (IDCC). METHODS Imaging data of 152 patients with pathologically confirmed hilar and extrahepatic big bile duct cholangiocarcinoma were reviewed, which included 86 periductal infiltrating cholangiocarcinoma (PDCC), 55 NCC, and 11 IDCC. Imaging features of the three morphological sub-types were compared. RESULTS Each of the subtypes demonstrated its unique imaging features. Significant differences (P < 0.05) were found between NCC and IDCC in tumor shape, dynamic enhanced pattern, enhancement degree during equilibrium phase, multiplicity or singleness of tumor, changes in wall and lumen of bile duct at the tumor-bearing segment, dilatation of tumor upstream or downstream bile duct, and invasion of adjacent organs. CONCLUSION Imaging features reveal tumor growth patterns of hilar and extrahepatic big bile duct cholangiocarcinoma. MRI united-sequences examination can accurately describe those imaging features for differentiation diagnosis.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To determine the clinical value of dual-source CT angiography (DSCTA) in the diagnosis of postoperative aortic intramural hematoma (AIMH) in patients with endovascular stent-graft exclusion (EVE) surgery. METHODS Between Oct 2008 and May 2013, thirty-six patients were diagnosed with AIMH by DSCTA, and 12 of these patients with type B underwent EVE. The 12 patients were followed up with DSCTA, which included imaging reconstruction (multi-plane reconstruction, MPR), maximum intensity projection (MIP) and volume rendering technique (VRT). The extent and type of AIMH, aortic ulcers and the outcomes and complications of AIMH were observed. RESULTS The 36 cases of AIMH included 11 Stanford type A and 25 type B. No tearing intimal flap or contrast materials within the hematoma were observed. The maximum aortic diameter of the hematoma areas varied from 3.8 to 5.4 cm (average 4.3 cm) and the maximum thickness of the hematoma ranged from 0.5 cm to 1.3 cm (average 0.9 cm). The ratio between the minimum and the maximum diameter of the aortic lumen in the hematoma areas ranged from 0. 74 to 0. 98 (average 0.85). Aortic ulcers were revealed in 3 patients with type A AIMH and 8 patients with type B AIMH. Intimal tearing of distal abdominal aorta was found in 3 patients with type B AIMH. In the 12 patients underwent EVE surgery, hematoma shrank in all cases with 4 cases almost resolving and aortic ulcers in the area of stent-graft exclusion disappeared in 3 cases. The form of stent-graft appeared normal in 9 cases and slightly abnormal in 3 cases. Fluent main branches of aortic arch and none existence of stent endoleaking were observed. CONCLUSION DSCTA with handy, effective and non-invasive advantages is one of the important imaging methods in the diagnosis of AIMH in patients with EVE surgery.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To assess the implementation of standard case management of asthma in Huaiyuan County, Anhui Province, China, in 2008. DESIGN The study project began with the local adaptation of international asthma guidelines, followed by a situation analysis, pre-intervention study, training and intervention. Inhaled beclomethasone (US$15 for a 200-puff [250 µg/puff] inhaler) was prescribed for patients with persistent asthma. Treatment outcome was assessed at 1 year after enrolment. RESULTS Asthma was never diagnosed in the participating facilities before the project was introduced. Of the 95 patients diagnosed with persistent asthma, 72 (75.8%) were prescribed inhaled beclomethasone, and 23 (24.2%) were not, because they either refused to use inhaled beclomethasone or did not return after the initial visit. At 1 year evaluation, of the 72 patients with persistent asthma treated with inhaled corticosteroids, 12 (16.7%) improved, 7 (9.7%) remained stable, none were worse, 1 (1.4%) had died, and 52 (72.2%) were lost to follow-up. Of the 52 patients lost to follow-up, 25 (48%) were found to be alive but had stopped using inhaled beclomethasone. CONCLUSION Asthma is more frequently disabling and costly than had been recognised earlier. Asthma patients can be provided the care that they require, but affordable access to inhaled corticosteroids remains a challenge.

Abstract
Cardiomyocytes can resist ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury through ischemic postconditioning (IPoC) which is repetitive ischemia induced during the onset of reperfusion. Myocardial ischemic preconditioning up-regulated protein 2 (MIP2) is a member of the WD-40 family proteins, we previously showed that MIP2 was up-regulated during ischemic preconditioning (IPC). As IPC and IPoC engaged similar molecular mechanisms in cardioprotection, this study aimed to elucidate whether MIP2 was up-regulated during IPoC and contributed to IPoC-mediated protection against I/R injury. The experiment was conducted on two models, an in vivo open chest rat coronary artery occlusion model and an in vitro model with H9c2 myogenic cells. In both models, 3 groups were constituted and randomly designated as the sham, I/R and IPoC/hypoxia postconditioning (HPoC) groups. In the IPoC group, after 45 min of ischemia, hearts were allowed three cycles of reperfusion/ischemia phases (each of 30 s duration) followed by reperfusion. In the HPoC group, after 6 h of hypoxia, H9c2 cells were subjected to three cycles of 10 minute reoxygenation and 10 minute hypoxia followed by reoxygenation. IPoC significantly reduced the infarct size, plasma level of Lactate dehydrogenase and creatine kinase MB in rats. 12 h after the reperfusion, MIP2 mRNA levels in the IPoC group were 10 folds that of the sham group and 1.4 folds that of the I/R group. Increased expression of MIP2 mRNA and attenuation of apoptosis were similarly observed in the HPoC group in the in vitro model. These effects were blunted by transfection with MIP2 siRNA in the H9c2 cells. This study demonstrated that IPoC induced protection was associated with increased expression of MIP2. Both MIP2 overexpression and MIP2 suppression can influence the IPoC induced protection.

Abstract
AIM: To investigate the influencing factors for and imaging manifestations of biliary complications in patients after living donor liver transplantation (LDLT).
METHODS: The imaging data for 119 patients who underwent LDLT at West China Hospital from January 2007 to March 2011 were retrospectively analyzed. All biliary system images were read and analyzed independently by two radiologists.
RESULTS: A total of 119 patients were followed up for 1-18 mo. During the follow-up period, 22 patients developed biliary complications, including 9 cases of cholestasis, 5 cases of cholangitis, 4 cases of stenosis, and 4 cases of bile leakage. Different complications occurred at different time points. Multidetector computed tomography (MDCT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) can display cholestasis, cholangitis and biliary stenosis well, and MRI has greater diagnostic value than MDCT. Both methods had limited value in the diagnosis of bile leakage.
CONCLUSION: The influencing factors for biliary complications in recipients after LDLT are diverse. MDCT and MRI have great value in the detection of these complications.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To test the values of MR spectroscopy (MRS) and fat saturation (FATSAT) in quantifying fat content in pancreas with 3.0T MR. METHODS Thirty-five healthy volunteers were examined with 3 different MR techniques IP/OP, MRS, and FATSAT, to quantify pancreas fat content (FC). The IP/OP result served as a reference standard. RESULTS The IP/OP, FATSAT and MRS detected (8.2 +/- 2.0)%, (11.8 +/- 4.7)% and (8.8 +/- 4.6)% of pancreas fat content, respectively. The IP/OP result correlated with the MRS result (r = 0.809, P < 0.001), but not with the FATSAT result (r = 0.311, P = 0.069). CONCLUSION For 3.0T MRI, MRS technique can quantify pancreas fat content, but FATSAT can not.

Abstract
AIM: To study the relationship between innate immune response and liver regeneration (LR) at transcriptional level.
METHODS: Genes associated with innate immunity response were obtained by collecting the data from databases and retrieving articles. Gene expression changes in rat regenerating liver were detected by rat genome 230 2.0 array.
RESULTS: A total of 85 genes were found to be associated with LR. The initially and totally expressed number of genes at the phases of initiation [0.5-4 h after partial hepatectomy (PH)], transition from G0 to G1 (4-6 h after PH), cell proliferation (6-66 h after PH), cell differentiation and structure-function reconstruction (66-168 h after PH) was 36, 9, 47, 4 and 36, 26, 78, 50, respectively, illustrating that the associated genes were mainly triggered at the initial phase of LR and worked at different phases. According to their expression similarity, these genes were classified into 5 types: 41 up-regulated, 4 predominantly up-regulated, 26 down-regulated, 6 predominantly down-regulated, and 8 approximately up/down-regulated genes, respectively. The expression of these genes was up-regulated 350 times and down-regulated 129 times respectively, demonstrating that the expression of most genes was enhanced while the expression of a small number of genes was decreased during LR. Their time relevance was classified into 14 groups, showing that the cellular physiological and biochemical activities during LR were staggered. According to the gene expression patterns, they were classified into 28 types, indicating that the cellular physiological and biochemical activities were diverse and complicated during LR.
CONCLUSION: Congenital cellular immunity is enhanced mainly in the forepart, prophase and anaphase of LR while congenital molecular immunity is increased dominantly in the forepart and anaphase of LR. A total of 85 genes associated with LR play an important role in innate immunity.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To determine the characteristics of a novel gene Mip5 (GenBank accession number AY553870) and its expression under physiological and pathological conditions. METHODS The characteristics of Mip5 were analyzed by bioinformatic programs including BLAST, spidey, psort, ClustalW and so on. RT-PCR was performed to detect Mip5 expression. RESULTS Bioinformatic analysis showed that Mip5 gene lied in the 13th chromosome and contained 8 exons and 7 introns, its open reading frame contained 909 bp and its protein production was 302 amino acid residues including 6 kelth domains. Under normal conditions, MIP5 expressed abundantly in the heart, brain and kidney, but its expression could not be detected in the liver and muscle. Expression of Mip5 gene was increased significantly after ischemia-reperfusion compared with the sham groups, and reached its peak at 3 h and recovered at 12 h after the reperfusion. Conclusion Mip5 gene is a novel gene containing a putative open reading frame of 302 amino acids residues and may play an important role in rat cardiomyocytes suffering ischemia processing.

Abstract
Diallyl disulfide (DADS), one of the major components of garlic (Allium sativum), is well known to have chemopreventative activity against human cancer such as colon, lung and skin. But the exact mechanism of the action is still unclear. In this study, we investigated how DADS--induced cell cycle arrest and apoptosis in T24 human bladder cancer cells in vitro. Apoptosis induction, cell viability, cell cycle arrest, caspases-3, -9 activity and gene expression were measured to determine their variation by flow cytometric assay, western blot, and determination of caspase-3 activity, PCR and cDNA microarray. There are significant differences in cell death (decreased viable cells then increased the amounts of apoptosis) of T24 cells that were detected between DADS (5-75 microM) treated and untreated groups. A significant increase was found in apoptosis induction when cells were treated with DADS (50 microM) compared to without DADS treated groups. DADS also promoted caspase-3 activity after exposure for 1, 3, 6, 12, and 24 h, which led to induce apoptosis. DADS also increased the product of intracellular hydrogen peroxide. Furthermore, the DADS-induced apoptosis on T24 cells was blocked by the broad-spectrum caspase inhibitor, z-VAD-fmk and antioxidant (catalase). DADS also increased cyclin E and decreased CDK2 gene expression which may lead to the G2/M arrest of T24 cells.

Abstract
Two components of garlic, diallyl sulfide (DAS) and diallyl disulfide (DADS), inhibited arylamine N-acetyltransferase (NAT) activity and 2-aminofluorene-DNA adduct in human promyelocytic leukemia cells (HL-60). The NAT activity was measured by high performance liquid chromatography assaying for amounts of N-acetyl-2-aminofluorene (2-AAF) and remaining 2-aminofluorene (2-AF). Cellular cytosols and intact cell suspensions were assayed. The inhibition of NAT activity and 2-AF-DNA adduct formation in human leukemia cells by DAS and DADS were dose-dependent and were directly proportional. The data also indicated that DAS and DADS decrease the apparent values of Km and Vmax from human leukemia cells in both assays. This is the first report of garlic components affecting human leukemia cell NAT activity and 2-AF-DNA adduct formation.

Abstract
The technique of differential display was used previously to profile the gene expression patterns of non-small cell lung cancer, and several genes differentially expressed were thus identified. In this report, we demonstrate that a DNA fragment of 347-bp length, up-regulated in tumor tissues, showed 100% sequence similarity to human cDNA FLJ20693 for a 370-residue protein. The gene product of cDNA FLJ20693 was postulated to be a shorter isoform of transmembrane GTPase, termed TG370, based upon the results of searching for sequence homology. The nucleotide sequence alignment also indicated that the cDNA FLJ20693 and the cDNA for 741-residue human mitofusin 1 (TG741) possibly resulted from the event of alternative splicing from which a 127-bp region was retained in the latter. Analysis of the genome sequence confirmed the speculation that both cDNAs were mapped to the same chromosomal position composing of 18 exons, of which the 127-bp region of TG741 constituted exon 11. The alternative splicing in all lung cancer cell lines was also observed to occur nearly in all tissue specimens examined. The up-regulated expression of transmembrane GTPase was subsequently found in tumor tissues from at least five of seven non-small cell lung cancer patients. Also, a distinct PCR product was initially detected in cell line H520, and further sequence analysis identified the presence of the 86-bp region mapped to the genome sequence immediately followed by exon 10. To evaluate the retention of 86-bp region, it was found that, besides the predicted 486-bp product, an unexpected 332-bp product was concomitantly observed and identified as the result of exon 8 deletion. The expression and subcellular localization of the full-length TG741 and other shorter isoforms were detected by flow cytometry using three polyclonal antibodies. It was concluded that the full-length TG741 located at plasma membrane with its NH(2)-terminal domain exposed extracellularly and the shorter isoforms retained at cytosol. Finally, the up-regulation of transmembrane GTPase in tumor tissues was further illustrated using immunohistochemical staining.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Amantadine and rimantadine have been used for treatment and prophylaxis of influenza A virus infection. We examined the amantadine susceptibility of field isolates of influenza A virus in Taiwan from 1996 to 1998 to monitor the presence of resistant strains. METHODS Eighty-four field isolates of influenza A virus were examined for resistance to amantadine by plaque inhibition assay. Virus isolates with amantadine 50% inhibitory concentrations (IC50) greater than 0.9 microgram were chosen for sequence analysis of the M gene that is the molecular target for amantadine/rimantadine. Reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) was used to amplify the viral RNA. RT-PCR products were examined and purified by agarose gel electrophoresis for further sequence analysis. The Genetics Computer Group Sequence Analysis Package and the neighbor-joining method listed in the Molecular Evolutionary Genetic Analysis package were used for phylogenetic analysis. RESULTS One field strain was amantadine resistant (IC50 > 10 micrograms/mL), with a mutation (position 31, serine to asparagine) in the M2 protein. The resistant virus was isolated from a non-immunocompromised child without a history of amantadine/rimantadine treatment. None of the family members reported previous exposure to amantadine/rimantadine. CONCLUSIONS In this series, amantadine-resistant influenza A (H1N1) virus was isolated from a non-immunocompromised Taiwanese child without a known history of exposure to this drug. Resistant field isolates were rare. Due to the increasing use of amantadine/rimantadine in Taiwan, continued surveillance for amantadine/rimantadine-resistant influenza A viruses is warranted.

Abstract
Growth inhibition and arylamine N-acetyltransferase (NAT) activity in Neisseria gonorrhoeae were inhibited by luteolin, a drug which originated from herbs. The growth inhibition was based on changes in optical density (OD) using a spectrophotometer, and arylamine NAT activity with 2-aminofluorene (2-AF) was determined using high pressure liquid chromatography. The inhibition of growth in N. gonorrhoeae demonstrated that luteolin elicited a dose-dependent growth inhibition in the N. gonorrhoeae cultures. Suspensions of N. gonorrhoeae with or without specific concentrations of luteolin cotreatment showed different percentages of 2-AF acetylation. The data indicated that there was reduced NAT activity associated with increased levels of luteolin in N. gonorrhoeae suspensions. Time-course experiments showed that NAT activity measured from intact N. gonorrhoeae cells was inhibited by luteolin for at least 4 h. Using standard steady-state kinetic analysis, it was demonstrated that luteolin was a possible uncompetitive inhibitor to NAT activity in N. gonorrhoeae. This report is the first to show that luteolin can inhibit N. gonorrhoeae NAT activity.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the clinical efficacy of Tianfoshen oral liquid (TFS) in treating moderate and advanced malignant tumors and its mechanism. METHODS Therapeutic effect of TFS in treating 71 patients of malignant tumor was analyzed with the criteria, including quality of life, 3-year survival rate and immune function. And experimental studies of inhibitory effect on tumor clone primordial cells and tumor growth rate of TFS on human gastric tumor (MGC803) cell, human liver cancer (SMMC7721) cell and mice galactophore cancer (EMT6) cell by colony forming method and dye exclusion test respectively were also conducted. RESULTS Clinical study showed that in the 71 cases treated, the total remission rate was 45.1%, the effective rate 71.8%, with improvement in quality of life and immune function, the 1-, 2- and 3-year survival rate being 78.5%, 38.5% and 10.8% respectively and the mean survival time 24.2 months. Experimental study showed that TFS could kill the cancer cells directly, inhibit the proliferation of single clonogenic cell, and had a broad-spectrum dose-dependent inhibitory action on various tumors with significant difference in comparing with the effects of the control (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION TFS had obvious therapeutic effect to moderate and advanced tumors, its anti-tumor effect was related to the enhancement of immune function and tumor inhibiting or direct killing action.

Abstract
The effects of butylated hydroxyanisole (BHA) and butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT) on N-acetyltransferase (NAT) activity were examined using a human colon tumor cell line (colo 205). BHA or BHT were added to the cytosols or to the medium of human colon tumor cells: The NAT activity was measured by high performance liquid chromatography, assaying the amounts of acetylated 2-aminoflluorene (AAF), p aminobenzoic acid (N-Ac-PABA), nonacetylated 2 aminofluorene (AF) and p-aminobenzoic acid (PABA). The NAT activity in the human colon tumor cells and cytosols was suppressed by BHA or BHT in a dose-dependent manner. The apparent values of Km and Vmax of NAT of human colon tumor cells were also decreased by BHA or BHT in cytosols and in intact cells. BHA or BHT may act as a noncompetitive inhibitor. After the incubation of human colon tumor cells with AF in the presence of BHA or BHT, the cells were recovered and DNA was prepared and hydrolysed to nucleotides. Adducted nucleotides were extracted into butanol and AF-DNA adducts were analysed by HPLC. The results also demonstrated that when BHA or BHT was added to the media, a decrease in AF-DNA adduct formation was seen in the human colon tumor cells. The finding of AF-DNA adduct formation in cultured human colon tumor cells suggest the possibility of using cultured cells for assessing arylamine-induced DNA damage.

Abstract
Berberine is an alkaloid occurring in the plant genera Berberis and Coptis. Although berberine had been demonstrated to have antineoplastic function by inhibiting DNA-synthesis in activated lymphocytes, there is no available information to address berberine affects on human leukemia cell N-acetyltransferase (NAT) activity and 2-aminofluorene (AF)-DNA adduct formation. Thus, berberine was tested for inhibition of arylamine NAT activity and AF-DNA adduct formation in human leukemia cells. The NAT activity was measured by a high performance liquid chromatography assaying for the amounts of N-acetyl-2-aminofluorene (AAF) and N-acetyl-p-aminobenzoic acid (N-Ac-PABA) and the remaining AF and p-aminobenzoic acid (PABA). The NAT activity and AF-DNA adduct formation in human leukemia cells were inhibited by berberine in a dose-dependent manner, i.e. the higher the concentration of berberine, the higher the inhibition of NAT activity and AF-DNA adduct. The data also indicate that berberine decreased the apparent values of Km and Vmax from human leukemia cells in both cytosol and intact cells.

Abstract
The synthesis of novel aquayamycin-derived angucycline antibiotics 13a-d has been achieved. Glycosylation of aquayamycin (6) using 2-selenoglycosyl acetate 7 as glycosyl donor proceeded in excellent yield but attempts to reductively remove the selenyl group led to rearrangement or further aromatization of the aglycon. As a consequence of these results, it became possible to prepare urdamycinone B (10) starting from aquayamycin (6). In addition, silyl protected D-olivals 12a,b were attached to the C-glycoside domain of aquayamycin (6) under protic conditions. As expected, the hydroxy and phenol groups of the benz[a]anthracene framework of 6 did not react under the glycosylation conditions employed. Stepwise removal of the silyl protecting group starting with tetrabutyl ammonium fluoride followed by use of the HF/pyridine complex suppressed a possible rearrangement of the aglycon and successfully terminated the sequence. The new angucycline-antibiotics 13a and 13b are some of the most potent xanthine oxidase inhibitors known and show cytotoxic activity with ED50-values in the range of 12.6-2.9x 10(-6) M.
