Abstract
Objective: To explore the clinical effects of fractional carbon dioxide laser combined with minimally invasive scar release in the treatment of post-acne atrophic scars. Methods: A retrospectively observational study was conducted. From January to June 2021, 60 patients with grade 3 and 4 post-acne atrophic scars who met the inclusion criteria were admitted to the First Affiliated Hospital of Henan University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. According to the adopted treatment methods, 30 patients treated with fractional carbon dioxide laser combined with minimally invasive scar release were included in combined treatment group (19 males and 11 females, aged (26±4) years), and 30 patients treated with fractional carbon dioxide laser alone were included in laser alone group (18 males and 12 females, aged (25±6) years). All the patients received the treatment once every two months, totally 3 times. Before the first treatment and 2 months after the last treatment, the scars were assessed by échelle d'évaluation clinique des cicatrices d'acné (ECCA). In 2 months after the last treatment, the curative effect was evaluated and the total effective rate was calculated according to the ECCA score. The adverse reactions of patients during the treatment were recorded. Data were statistically analyzed with independent sample t test, Wilcoxon rank-sum test, Mann-Whitney U test, chi-square test, and Fisher's exact probability test. Results: Before the first treatment, the ECCA scores of patients in the two groups were similar (P>0.05). In 2 months after the last treatment, the ECCA scores of patients in combined treatment group were significantly lower than those of laser alone group (Z=-2.89, P<0.05). The ECCA scores of patients in combined treatment group and laser alone group in 2 months after the last treatment were both significantly lower than those before the first treatment (with Z values of -4.81 and -4.79, respectively, P<0.05). In 2 months after the last treatment, the treatment in laser alone group cured the scars in 2 patients, and were markedly effective in 13 patients, effective in 7 patients, and ineffective in 8 patients; the treatment in combined treatment group cured the scars in 4 patients, and were markedly effective in 22 patients, effective in 3 patients, and ineffective in one patients. The total effective rate of scar treatment in combined treatment group (96.67%, 29/30) was significantly higher than 73.33% (22/30) in laser alone group (P<0.05). During treatment, in combined treatment group, 3 patients had pain, one patient had redness and swelling, and one patient had pigmentation. In laser alone group, one patient had pain, and 2 patients had pigmentation. No infection occurred in the wounds of all the patients in the two groups. Conclusions: Compared with fractional carbon dioxide laser alone, fractional carbon dioxide laser combined with minimally invasive scar release for post-acne atrophic scars can result in a higher total effective rate, with simple operation and good effect, so it is worthy of clinical application.

Genetic and neural mechanisms of sleep disorders in children with autism spectrum disorder: a review. Front Psychiatry 2023; 14:1079683. [PMID: 37200906 PMCID: PMC10185750 DOI: 10.3389/fpsyt.2023.1079683] [Citation(s) in RCA: 0] [Impact Index Per Article: 0] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Key Words] [Grants] [Track Full Text] [Figures] [Journal Information] [Submit a Manuscript] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Received: 10/25/2022] [Accepted: 04/13/2023] [Indexed: 05/20/2023] Open
Abstract
Background The incidence of sleep disorders in children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is very high. Sleep disorders can exacerbate the development of ASD and impose a heavy burden on families and society. The pathological mechanism of sleep disorders in autism is complex, but gene mutations and neural abnormalities may be involved. Methods In this review, we examined literature addressing the genetic and neural mechanisms of sleep disorders in children with ASD. The databases PubMed and Scopus were searched for eligible studies published between 2013 and 2023. Results Prolonged awakenings of children with ASD may be caused by the following processes. Mutations in the MECP2, VGAT and SLC6A1 genes can decrease GABA inhibition on neurons in the locus coeruleus, leading to hyperactivity of noradrenergic neurons and prolonged awakenings in children with ASD. Mutations in the HRH1, HRH2, and HRH3 genes heighten the expression of histamine receptors in the posterior hypothalamus, potentially intensifying histamine's ability to promote arousal. Mutations in the KCNQ3 and PCDH10 genes cause atypical modulation of amygdala impact on orexinergic neurons, potentially causing hyperexcitability of the hypothalamic orexin system. Mutations in the AHI1, ARHGEF10, UBE3A, and SLC6A3 genes affect dopamine synthesis, catabolism, and reuptake processes, which can elevate dopamine concentrations in the midbrain. Secondly, non-rapid eye movement sleep disorder is closely related to the lack of butyric acid, iron deficiency and dysfunction of the thalamic reticular nucleus induced by PTCHD1 gene alterations. Thirdly, mutations in the HTR2A, SLC6A4, MAOA, MAOB, TPH2, VMATs, SHANK3, and CADPS2 genes induce structural and functional abnormalities of the dorsal raphe nucleus (DRN) and amygdala, which may disturb REM sleep. In addition, the decrease in melatonin levels caused by ASMT, MTNR1A, and MTNR1B gene mutations, along with functional abnormalities of basal forebrain cholinergic neurons, may lead to abnormal sleep-wake rhythm transitions. Conclusion Our review revealed that the functional and structural abnormalities of sleep-wake related neural circuits induced by gene mutations are strongly correlated with sleep disorders in children with ASD. Exploring the neural mechanisms of sleep disorders and the underlying genetic pathology in children with ASD is significant for further studies of therapy.

Both family-based Helicobacter pylori infection control and management strategy and screen-and-treat strategy are cost-effective for gastric cancer prevention. Helicobacter 2022; 27:e12911. [PMID: 35706404 DOI: 10.1111/hel.12911] [Citation(s) in RCA: 3] [Impact Index Per Article: 1.5] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Key Words] [Track Full Text] [Journal Information] [Submit a Manuscript] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Received: 02/08/2022] [Revised: 05/23/2022] [Accepted: 05/28/2022] [Indexed: 12/16/2022]
Abstract
BACKGROUND Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection and its related diseases are substantial public health burden for highly infected areas. Recently, a novel family-based H. pylori infection control and management (FBCM) strategy is introduced for H. pylori infection prevention and control. However, its cost-effectiveness has not been evaluated. We conducted this health economic evaluation to investigate the cost-effectiveness of FBCM, screen-and-treat, and no-screen strategies in Chinese population. MATERIALS AND METHODS Cost-effectiveness analysis was performed using decision tree and Markov model. Parameters required for the model were from published literatures and public databases, including health state utility, screening characteristics, treatment effectiveness, and medical costs for the three strategies. Outcomes were cost, quality-adjusted life year (QALY), incremental cost-effectiveness ratio (ICER). Uncertainty analysis was performed to verify the robustness of this model. RESULTS To prevent gastric cancer in a cohort of 1 million asymptomatic Chinese families, FBCM and screen-and-treat strategies prevented 1010 and 1201 new gastric cancer cases, reduced 2809 and 3339 gastric cancer-related death, and saved 956,971 and 1,137,549 QALYs, respectively, when compared with no-screen strategy. Cost-effectiveness analysis showed that FBCM strategy cost $9.18/QALY, and screen-and-treat strategy cost $12.08/QALY for gastric cancer prevention when compared with no-screen strategy. One-way sensitivity analysis revealed that screening from younger age by both strategies are more cost-effective. When compared with FBCM strategy, screen-and-treat strategy saved 5.98% gastric cancer cases and 5.78% of gastric cancer deaths, but costed $9348 to reduce a gastric cancer case. Results are not sensitive to any variables, and probabilistic sensitivity analysis confirmed robustness of the results. CONCLUSIONS Both FBCM and screen-and-treat strategies are cost-effective for gastric cancer prevention compared with no-screen strategy. Since FBCM is more practical and convenient, it may be an efficient and excellent cost-effective strategy for gastric cancer prevention in H. pylori and gastric cancer prevalent areas.

Rabeprazole plus amoxicillin dual therapy is equally effective to bismuth-containing quadruple therapy for Helicobacter pylori eradication in central China: A single-center, prospective, open-label, randomized-controlled trial. Helicobacter 2022; 27:e12876. [PMID: 35150597 DOI: 10.1111/hel.12876] [Citation(s) in RCA: 2] [Impact Index Per Article: 1.0] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Key Words] [Track Full Text] [Journal Information] [Submit a Manuscript] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Received: 11/30/2021] [Revised: 01/10/2022] [Accepted: 01/16/2022] [Indexed: 12/11/2022]
Abstract
BACKGROUND Antibiotic resistance emerges as a major issue for Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) treatment. High-dose dual therapy has recently shown encouraging results in H. pylori eradication, but it has yet to be validated in this H. pylori highly infected area; it is also not known if this concept can be extended to antibiotics other than amoxicillin, and factors that affect the eradication. We investigate if rabeprazole plus amoxicillin or furazolidone regimens could be a first-line therapy for H. pylori eradication, and factors that affect the curing rate. METHODS This is a single-center, prospective, open-label, randomized-controlled trial. Naive patients (n=292) were randomly treated with bismuth-containing quadruple therapy (BQT), rabeprazole plus amoxicillin (RADT), or furazolidone (RFDT) groups. RADT and FADT use three times daily regimens. H. pylori diagnosis and eradication were determined and confirmed by 13 C-urea breath test. RESULTS In per-protocol (PP) analysis, H. pylori eradication rate was 91.2% in BQT group, 89.6% in RADT, and 51.0% in RFDT group. In intention-to-treat (ITT) analysis, infection was eradicated in 86.7% of patients in BQT group, 85.8% in RADT, and 48.1% in RFDT groups, respectively. Noninferiority was confirmed between BQT and RADT groups. The incidence of side effects in BQT group was significantly higher than that in RADT group. Successful eradication was associated with lower body surface area (BSA) and low body mass index (BMI) in BQT group. Smoking and high BSA index reduced H. pylori eradication rate in RADT group. CONCLUSIONS Rabeprazole-amoxicillin dual therapy is equally effective to the bismuth-containing quadruple therapy for H. pylori eradication with fewer side effects and saves use of one antibiotic per each treatment. Successful eradication is also associated with low BSA and non-smoking condition, which deserves future stratified analysis for refinement and optimization.

[Effects of plasma lipopolysaccharide changes on platelet release of vascular endothelial growth factor and thromobospondin-1 in patients with cirrhotic portal hypertension after TIPS procedure]. ZHONGHUA GAN ZANG BING ZA ZHI = ZHONGHUA GANZANGBING ZAZHI = CHINESE JOURNAL OF HEPATOLOGY 2022; 30:207-212. [PMID: 35359073 DOI: 10.3760/cma.j.cn501113-20200206-00031] [Citation(s) in RCA: 0] [Impact Index Per Article: 0] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Key Words] [MESH Headings] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Indexed: 06/14/2023]
Abstract
Objective: To investigate the effects of plasma lipopolysaccharide (LPS) concentration changes on platelet release of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and thrombospondin (TSP)-1 in patients with decompensated cirrhotic portal hypertension after transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS) procedure. Methods: 169 cases with cirrhotic portal hypertension were enrolled, of which 81 cases received TIPS treatment. LPS, VEGF, and TSP-1 concentrations with different Child-Pugh class in peripheral blood plasma of patients were measured. After pre-incubation of normal human platelets with different concentrations of LPS and stimulated by collagen in vitro, platelet PAC-1 expression rate, VEGF, and TSP-1 concentrations were detected. PAC-1 expression rate and the concentrations of LPS, VEGF and TSP-1 in peripheral blood plasma of patients before and after TIPS procedure were detected. The relationship between plasma LPS, VEGF and TSP-1 concentrations and Child-Pugh score changes in patients after TIPS procedure was analyzed. Statistical analysis was performed by t-test, one-way ANOVA or Pearson's rho according to different data. Results: Plasma LPS and TSP-1 concentrations were significantly higher in Child-Pugh class C patients than class A and B, but the concentration of plasma VEGF was significantly lower than class A and B (P < 0.01). In vitro experiments showed that concentration of LPS, TSP-1, and platelet PAC-1 expression rate was higher in the supernatant, but the difference in the concentration of VEGF in the supernatant was not statistically significant. Portal vein pressure and platelet activation were significantly decreased (P < 0.01) in patients after TIPS procedure. Portal venous pressure, platelet activation, plasma LPS, and TSP-1 levels were significantly decreased continuously, while VEGF levels were significantly increased continuously after TIPS procedure. Plasma LPS concentration was positively correlated with TSP-1 concentration (r = 0.506, P < 0.001), and negatively correlated with VEGF concentration (r = -0.167, P = 0.010). Child-Pugh score change range was negatively correlated with change range of plasma VEGF concentration (r = -0.297, P = 0.016), and positively correlated with change range of plasma TSP-1 concentration (r = 0.145, P = 0.031) after TIPS. Conclusion: Portal venous pressure gradient, plasma LPS concentration and corresponding platelet activation was decreased in cirrhotic portal hypertension after TIPS procedure, and with TSP-1 reduction and VEGF elevation it is possible to reduce the liver function injury caused by portal venous shunt.

Abstract
Abstract Synthetic cannabinoids are currently a class of new psychoactive substances with the largest variety and most abused. Metabolite identification research can provide basic data for monitoring synthetic cannabinoids abuse, which is the current research hotspot. The main trend of structural modification of synthetic cannabinoid is to replace the fluorine atom on pentyl indole or indazole cyclopentyl with hydrogen atom, which greatly improves the biological activity of the compound. The main metabolic reactions include hydroxylation, fluoropentyl oxidative, ester hydrolyze, amide hydrolysis. Liquid chromatography-high resolution mass spectrometry has become the preferred choice for the structural identification of metabolites. This review mainly summarizes research on metabolism software prediction and human hepatocyte model, human liver microsomes model, rat in vivo model, zebrafish model and fungus C. elegans model in metabolite identification based on the structure and classification of synthetic cannabinoids.

Abstract
Ethylene/polar monomer coordination copolymerization offers an attractive way of making functionalized polyolefins. However, ethylene copolymerization with industrially relevant short chain length alkenoic acid remain a big challenge. Here we report the efficient direct copolymerization of ethylene with vinyl acetic acid by tetranuclear nickel complexes. The protic monomer can be extended to acrylic acid, allylacetic acid, ω-alkenoic acid, allyl alcohol, and homoallyl alcohol. Based on X-ray analysis of precatalysts, control experiments, solvent-assisted electrospray ionization-mass spectrometry detection of key catalytic intermediates, and density functional theory studies, we propose a possible mechanistic scenario that involves a distinctive vinyl acetic acid enchainment enabled by Ni···Ni synergistic effects. Inspired by the mechanistic insights, binuclear nickel catalysts are designed and proved much more efficient for the copolymerization of ethylene with vinyl acetic acid or acrylic acid, achieving the highest turnover frequencies so far for both ethylene and polar monomers simultaneously.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Two critical concerns during Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) eradication are the successful eradication and recurrence. It is debatable whether whole family-based H. pylori treatment regimen might have any advantage over single-infected patient treatment approach in increasing eradication rate and reducing recurrence rate. We conduct systematic review and meta-analysis to compare the efficacy of these two treatment regimens in order to provide clinical practice a better option for H. pylori eradication. METHODS Randomized controlled trials evaluating H. pylori eradication and recurrence in whole family-based treatment group (WFTG) versus single-infected patient treatment group (SPTG) were collected from published literature up to July 2020 from common databases. Pooled results were analyzed using either fixed-effect or random-effect model. Results were expressed as the odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence interval (CI). RESULTS A total of 1751 relevant articles were identified, and 12 studies were eligible for analysis. Among them: (a) Eight articles including 1198 patients were selected to analyze H. pylori eradication rate, pooled result showed that eradication rate of WFTG was higher than that of SPTG (OR=2.93; 95% CI 1.68-5.13). Stratified analysis showed that H. pylori eradication rate in WFTG were higher over SPTG in children subgroup, but had no difference in spouse subgroup. (b) Six studies including 881 patients were analyzed for recurrence rate between the two groups, pooled analysis showed that the overall recurrence rate of WFTG was lower than that of SPTG (OR=0.3; 95% CI 0.19-0.48). Stratified analysis showed that the recurrence rate in WFTG was lower over SPTG at 6, 12, 18, and more than 24 months post-treatment subgroups. CONCLUSION Whole family-based H. pylori treatment can partially increase eradication rate and reduce recurrence rate over single-infected patient treatment approach, the results provide clinical practice a novel notion for H. pylori eradication and infection prevention.

Abstract
Objective: To compare the clinical efficacy of transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS) with expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (ePTFE)-covered stent and drug combined with gastroscopy as the secondary prevention of esophageal-gastric variceal bleeding in portal hypertension. Methods: Patients with esophageal-gastric variceal bleeding who received TIPS treatment (ePTFE covered stent) or gastroscopy for the first time as the secondary prevention for portal hypertension at Nanfang Hospital of Southern Medical University through March to July 2017 were selected. One year after the operation, liver function changes, ascites remission rates, incidence of hepatic encephalopathy, re-bleeding rate, average hospitalization frequency and expenses, survival time, as well as the TIPS patency conditions were analyzed in the two groups of patients. 2 test, Kaplan-Meier method and Mann-Whitney U test were used to analyze the data. Results: There were 74 and 66 cases in the TIPS and the drug combined gastroscopy group and the follow-up duration (14.57 ± 0.79) was 12-16 months. One year after surgery, the remission rate of ascites in the TIPS group was higher 57.1% (32/56) than that of the drug combined gastroscopy group (0), and the difference was statistically significant (χ(2) = 2 = 36.73, P < 0.01). The cumulative incidence of hepatic encephalopathy at 1, 3, 6, and 12 months after surgery in the TIPS group was 32.4% (24/74), 37.8% (28/74), 40.5% (30/74), and 40.5% (30/74), respectively. The cumulative incidence of hepatic encephalopathy in the drug combined gastroscopy group was 3.0% (2/66), 3.0% (2/66), 3.0% (2/66), and 6.1% (4/66), respectively. Kaplan-Meier analysis showed that the cumulative incidence of hepatic encephalopathy in the TIPS group was higher than that of the drug combined gastroscopy group (χ(2) = 11.29, P < 0.01). The incidence of severe hepatic encephalopathy ( grade III to IV) at 1, 3, 6, and 12 months after surgery in the TIPS group was 2.7% (2/74), 0, 0, and 0, respectively. The incidence of severe hepatic encephalopathy in drug combined gastroscopy group was 0, and there was no statistically significant difference in development of hepatic encephalopathy between the two groups (P > 0.05). The re-bleeding rates of TIPS group and drug combined gastroscopy group were 0 and 27.3% (18/66), respectively, and the difference was statistically significant (χ(2) = 22.42, P < 0.01). There was no death reported during the follow-up period between both groups. The hospitalization frequency times (1.45 ± 0.80) in TIPS group was lower than that of the drug combined gastroscopy group times (3.24 ± 1.80), and the difference was statistically significant (U = -4.52, P < 0.01). Conclusion: In the prevention of esophageal-gastric variceal bleeding, TIPS (ePTFE-covered stent) treatment has the advantages of reducing re-bleeding rate, high ascites remission rate and hospitalizations frequency. In addition, patients treated with TIPS have a higher incidence of hepatic encephalopathy than that of drugs combined with gastroscopy. However, TIPS did not exacerbate the incidence of hepatic encephalopathy, and there was no significant difference in the 1-year survival rate after TIPS and drugs combined with gastroscopy treatment.

Type I and type II Helicobacter pylori infection status and their impact on gastrin and pepsinogen level in a gastric cancer prevalent area. World J Gastroenterol 2020; 26:3673-3685. [PMID: 32742135 PMCID: PMC7366059 DOI: 10.3748/wjg.v26.i25.3673] [Citation(s) in RCA: 12] [Impact Index Per Article: 3.0] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Key Words] [MESH Headings] [Track Full Text] [Download PDF] [Journal Information] [Submit a Manuscript] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Received: 01/04/2020] [Revised: 04/08/2020] [Accepted: 06/03/2020] [Indexed: 02/06/2023] Open
Abstract
BACKGROUND Type I Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection causes severe gastric inflammation and is a predisposing factor for gastric carcinogenesis. However, its infection status in stepwise gastric disease progression in this gastric cancer prevalent area has not been evaluated; it is also not known its impact on commonly used epidemiological gastric cancer risk markers such as gastrin-17 (G-17) and pepsinogens (PGs) during clinical practice.
AIM To explore the prevalence of type I and type II H. pylori infection status and their impact on G-17 and PG levels in clinical practice.
METHODS Thirty-five hundred and seventy-two hospital admitted patients with upper gastrointestinal symptoms were examined, and 523 patients were enrolled in this study. H. pylori infection was confirmed by both 13C-urea breath test and serological assay. Patients were divided into non-atrophic gastritis (NAG), non-atrophic gastritis with erosion (NAGE), chronic atrophic gastritis (CAG), peptic ulcers (PU) and gastric cancer (GC) groups. Their serological G-17, PG I and PG II values and PG I/PG II ratio were also measured.
RESULTS A total H. pylori infection rate of 3572 examined patients was 75.9%, the infection rate of 523 enrolled patients was 76.9%, among which type I H. pylori infection accounted for 72.4% (291/402) and type II was 27.6%; 88.4% of GC patients were H. pylori positive, and 84.2% of them were type I infection, only 11.6% of GC patients were H. pylori negative. Infection rates of type I H. pylori in NAG, NAGE, CAG, PU and GC groups were 67.9%, 62.7%, 79.7%, 77.6% and 84.2%, respectively. H. pylori infection resulted in significantly higher G-17 and PG II values and decreased PG I/PG II ratio. Both types of H. pylori induced higher G-17 level, but type I strain infection resulted in an increased PG II level and decreased PG I/PG II ratio in NAG, NAGE and CAG groups over uninfected controls. Overall PG I levels showed no difference among all disease groups and in the presence or absence of H. pylori; in stratified analysis, its level was increased in GC and PU patients in H. pylori and type I H. pylori-positive groups.
CONCLUSION Type I H. pylori infection is the major form of infection in this geographic region, and a very low percentage (11.6%) of GC patients are not infected by H. pylori. Both types of H. pylori induce an increase in G-17 level, while type I H. pylori is the major strain that affects PG I and PG IIs level and PG I/PG II ratio in stepwise chronic gastric disease. The data provide insights into H. pylori infection status and indicate the necessity and urgency for bacteria eradication and disease prevention in clinical practice.

Effects of lipid form and source on digestibility of fat and fatty acids in growing pigs. J Anim Sci 2017; 95:3103-3109. Abstract
The objective of this study was to compare the effect of source (corn DDGS, rice bran, or soybean) or form of oil (extracted or intact) on apparent total tract digestibility (ATTD) and true total tract digestibility (TTTD) of acid-hydrolyzed ether extract (AEE) and fatty acids. The study determined and compared the ATTD or TTTD of AEE and fatty acids in extracted corn oil, rice oil, and soybean oil with intact oil in corn DDGS, full-fat rice bran, and full-fat soybean. Seventy-eight barrows (initial BW = 47.2 ± 3.9 kg; Duroc × Landrace × Yorkshire) were allotted to 1 of 13 dietary treatments in a randomized complete block design with 6 barrows in each dietary treatment. The 13 experimental diets included 1 cornstarch-soybean meal basal diet (AEE, 0.56%) and 3 diets containing 6% extracted oils (corn oil, rice oil, and soybean oil) and 9 diets supplemented with 3 levels of corn DDGS (17%, 34%, and 51%), full-fat rice bran (14%, 28%, and 42%), and full-fat soybean (12%, 24%, and 36%). These diets provided about 2%, 4%, and 6% intact oil, respectively. The barrows were housed in individual metabolism crates and were fed the assigned test diets at 4% of initial BW per day. A 5-d total collection of feces followed a 7-d diet adaptation period. The ATTD of AEE were calculated for each diet. The endogenous flow of AEE associated with each ingredient and values for TTTD were calculated using regression methods. The ATTD of AEE were greater ( < 0.05) for extracted oil than for intact oil. Compared to extracted oil, intact oil had lower ( < 0.01) ATTD of palmitic acid (C16:0), stearic acid (C18:0), oleic acid (C18:1), linoleic acid (C18:2), and linolenic acid (C18:3). However, a source by form interaction ( < 0.01) was observed for ATTD of C18:0, C18:2, and C18:3. The ATTD of C18:0, C18:2, and C18:3 in extracted corn and rice oil were greater compared with intact corn DDGS and rice oil ( < 0.05), while there was no significant difference for the ATTD of C18:0, C18:2, and C18:3 between extracted soybean oil and intact oil in full-fat soybean. In conclusion, lipids that are extracted have a greater digestibility compared with intact lipids, and this is especially true regarding saturated fatty acids. The ATTD of AEE in 2 forms of rice oil (intact oil and extracted oil) was less than the values in corn oil and soybean oil. The TTTD of AEE in corn DDGS and full-fat soybeans were greater than in full-fat rice bran.

Hsp90 modulates the stability of MLKL and is required for TNF-induced necroptosis. Cell Death Dis 2016; 7:e2089. Abstract
The pseudokinase mixed lineage kinase domain-like protein (MLKL) is a key component of tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-induced necroptosis and plays a crucial role in necroptosis execution. However, the mechanisms that control MLKL activity are not completely understood. Here, we identify the molecular chaperone Hsp90 as a novel MLKL-interacting protein. We show that Hsp90 associates with MLKL and is required for MLKL stability. Moreover, we find that Hsp90 also regulates the stability of the upstream RIP3 kinase. Interference with Hsp90 function with the 17AAG inhibitor destabilizes MLKL and RIP3, resulting in their degradation by the proteasome pathway. Furthermore, we find that Hsp90 is required for TNF-stimulated necrosome assembly. Disruption of Hsp90 function prevents necrosome formation and strongly reduces MLKL phosphorylation and inhibits TNF-induced necroptosis. Consistent with a positive role of Hsp90 in necroptosis, coexpression of Hsp90 increases MLKL oligomerization and plasma membrane translocation and enhances MLKL-mediated necroptosis. Our findings demonstrate that an efficient necrotic response requires a functional Hsp90.

Abstract
The study was conducted to investigate the effect of dietary manganese (Mn) on reproductive performance of female Ussuri raccoon dogs (Nyctereutes procyonoides) during the breeding season. Healthy female Ussuri raccoon dogs (n=72) were randomly divided into six groups of twelve each. The six experimental diets were formulated to contain graded amounts of Mn (0, 40, 80, 120, 200 and 400mg/kg of diet; Groups A through F, respectively). Litter size of Group D was greater than that of Groups A, B, C and E (P<0.05), with Group E having the smallest litter size. Values of number born alive were affected by different amounts of organic Mn. Number of pups born alive in Group D was greater than that of Groups B, C, E and F (P<0.05). Number of pups weaned alive for Group D was greater than that of Groups A, B, C and E (P<0.05). Mn supplementation of the control diet (containing 24.32 mg/kg from raw materials) with 120 mg/kg of Mn was adequate for female Ussuri raccoon dogs during the breeding season, based on positive effects of reproduction performance.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Macrovascular disease is a common complication of Diabetes Mellitus (DM). Study of renal artery endothelium may serve as a surrogate for cardiovascular and renal vascular disease. OBJECT This study is to elucidate (1) how about the changes of renal endothelial ultrastructures it is in different time of diabetes animals (2) Whether PPARgamma ligand (such as rosiglitazone: ROS) could improve endothelium destruction in diabetes. METHODS Streptozoticin (STZ) induced diabetic rats were stratified by age groups from 6 to 10 weeks of age and were paired with age-matched control non-diabetic rats. Further, another group of diabetic rats were treated with ROS and matched with non-treated diabetic rats. RESULT The renal artery endothelium of diabetic rats was partially coarse, distended, cracked and destroyed. The Vascular Endothelial Structure Score (VESS) was 34.5 in diabetic rats compared with non-diabetic control male rats (P=0.001). The older rats demonstrated more endothelial wall damage, more pronounced in male rats. Compared with non-treated control diabetic rats, ROS prevented diabetic endothelial damage (VESS=4.6, P=0.001). CONCLUSION Renal artery endothelium damage in STZ induced diabetic rats was significantly attenuated by rosiglitazone.

Abstract
The decay J/psi-->NNpi provides an effective isospin 1/2 filter for the piN system due to isospin conservation. Using 58x10(6) J/psi decays collected with the Beijing Electromagnetic Spectrometer at the Beijing Electron Positron Collider, more than 100 thousand J/psi-->ppi-n+c.c. events are obtained. Besides the two well-known N* peaks at around 1500 MeV/c2 and 1670 MeV/c2, there are two new, clear N* peaks in the ppi invariant mass spectrum around 1360 MeV/c2 and 2030 MeV/c2 with statistical significance of 11sigma and 13sigma, respectively. We identify these as the first direct observation of the N*(1440) peak and a long-sought missing N* peak above 2 GeV/c2 in the piN invariant mass spectrum.

Abstract
An enhancement near the m(p)+M(Lambda) mass threshold is observed in the combined pLambda and pLambda invariant-mass spectrum from J/psi-->pK(-)Lambda;+c.c. decays. It can be fit with an S-wave Breit-Wigner resonance with a mass m=2075+/-12(stat)+/-5(syst) MeV and a width of Gamma=90+/-35(stat)+/-9(syst) MeV; it can also be fit with a P-wave Breit-Wigner resonance. Evidence for a similar enhancement is also observed in psi(')-->pK(-)Lambda;+c.c. decays. The analysis is based on samples of 5.8x10(7)J/psi and 1.4x10(7)psi(') decays accumulated in the BES II detector at the Beijing Electron-Positron Collider.

Abstract
The decay psi(2S)-->K(0)(S)K(0)(L) is observed using psi(2S) data collected with the Beijing Spectrometer at the Beijing Electron-Positron Collider; the branching fraction is determined to be B(psi(2S)-->K(0)(S)K(0)(L))=(5.24+/-0.47+/-0.48)x10(-5). Compared with J/psi-->K(0)(S)K(0)(L), the psi(2S) branching fraction is enhanced relative to the prediction of the perturbative QCD "12%" rule. The result, together with the branching fractions of psi(2S) decays to other pseudoscalar meson pairs (pi(+)pi(-) and K+K-), is used to investigate the relative phase between the three-gluon and the one-photon annihilation amplitudes of psi(2S) decays.

Abstract
The epicardial coronary arteries experience significant torsion in the axial direction due to changes in the shape of the heart during the cardiac cycle. The objective of this study was to determine the torsional mechanical properties of the coronary arteries under various circumferential and longitudinal loadings. The coronary artery was treated as a two-layer composite vessel consisting of intima-medial and adventitial layers, and the shear modulus of each layer was determined. Eight porcine hearts were obtained at a local abattoir, and their right coronary and left anterior descending arteries were isolated and tested in vitro with a triaxial torsion machine (inflation, longitudinal stretch, and circumferential twist). After the intact vessel was tested, the adventitia was dissected away, leaving an intact media that was then tested under identical triaxial loading conditions. We proposed a biomechanical analysis to compute the shear modulus of the adventitia from the measured shear moduli of the intact vessel and the media. To validate our predictions, we used four additional hearts in which the shear modulus of the adventitia was measured after dissection of media. Our results show that the shear modulus does not depend on the shear stress or strain but varies linearly with circumferential and longitudinal stresses and in a nonlinear way with the corresponding strains. Furthermore, we found that the shear modulus of the adventitia is larger than that of the intact vessel, which is larger than the vessel media. These results may have important implications for baroreceptor sensitivity, circulation of the vasa vasorum, and coronary dissection.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate whether partial unilateral ureteric obstruction (PUUO) produces renal dysplasia in newborn rats. MATERIALS AND METHODS Left mild (in 31) or severe (in 34) PUUO was induced in 2-day-old rats by embedding a quarter or two-thirds of the ureter into the psoas muscles, respectively. Sham-operated control rats (36) were assessed in parallel. Kidney morphology, renal parenchymal weight and histology were examined 24 weeks and 30 months afterward. RESULTS There was significant pelvic dilatation in all obstructed kidneys; four kidneys were dysplastic in those severely obstructed, with a significant decrease in renal volume. There were three dysplastic kidneys after 6 months and one at 30 months. The in vitro dysplastic kidney weight was 36% of the control kidneys. Microscopy showed primitive glomerular and tubular structures, with renal parenchymal developmental disorganization and marked fibrosis. The glomeruli, tubules and collecting ducts were deficient in number and had often undergone cystic changes. Columnar tubular epithelium and peritubular mesenchymal collars were present. There was no renal dysplasia in the mildly obstructed and sham-operated rats. The parenchymal weight of the kidneys contralateral to the dysplastic kidneys was significantly higher than in the controls (P < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS Severe PUUO can produce renal dysplasia in newborn rats. However, only 12% with severe obstruction had renal dysplasia, indicating that the cause of renal dysplasia might also be related to other factors.

Abstract
The goal of this study is to quantitatively describe the remodeling of the zero-stress state of the femoral artery in flow overload. Increased blood flow, approximately as a unit step change, was imposed on the femoral artery by making an arteriovenous (a-v) fistula with the epigastric vein. The a-v fistula was created in the right leg of 36 rats, which were divided equally into six groups (2 days and 1, 2, 4, 8, and 12 wk after the fistula). The vessels in the left leg were used as controls without operative trauma. The in vivo blood pressure, flow, and femoral outer diameter and the in vitro zero-stress state geometry were measured. The in vivo shear rate at the endothelial surface increased approximately as a step function by approximately 83%, after 2 days, compared with the control artery. The arterial luminal and wall area significantly increased postsurgically from 0.15 +/- 0.02 and 0.22 +/- 0.02 mm(2) to 0.28 +/- 0.04 and 0.31 +/- 0.05 mm(2), respectively, after 12 wk. The wall thickness did not change significantly over time (P > 0.1). The opening angle decreased to 82 +/- 4.2 degrees postsurgically when compared with controls (102 +/- 4.4) after 12 wk and correlated linearly with the thickness-to-radius ratio. Histological analysis revealed vascular smooth muscle cell growth. The remodeling data are expressed mathematically in terms of indicial functions, i.e., change of a particular feature of a blood vessel in response to a unit step change of blood flow. The indicial function approach provides a quantitative description of the remodeling process in the blood vessel wall.

Digital particle image velocimetry investigation of the pulsating flow around a simplified 2-D model of a bileaflet heart valve. THE JOURNAL OF HEART VALVE DISEASE 2001; 10:239-53. Abstract
BACKGROUND AND AIM OF STUDY Strong interactions are believed to exist between the pulsating valvular flow and the valve leaflet motions. Hinge position, indicated by d/W (d = distance between the two axes of the hinge pivots; W = width of the testing section in the middle plane), plays a critical role in MHV performance. An optimized hinge position for a bileaflet heart valve can be identified as a design criterion for better valve performance. METHODS A two-dimensional (2-D) digital particle image velocimetry (DPIV) system was used to map the transient flow field of a simplified 2-D model of a bileaflet heart valve with a hydraulic diameter enlarged three-fold under pressure waveforms which was expanded based on Womersley number and Euler number considerations. Six different hinge positions were investigated. RESULTS At extreme hinge positions (d/W <0.2 or d/W >0.3), large-scale and long-duration stagnation of flow was found in the central orifice, and instability and highly disturbed flow was noted in plots of velocity vectors. CONCLUSION The transient flow pattern in the vicinity of the valve was greatly affected by the hinge position of moving leaflets. An optimum d/W in the range 0.2-0.3 yielded good velocity field and opening and closing behaviors.

Abstract
As part of a general investigation on the effects of blood flow patterns in sidewall aneurysm, in vitro steady flow studies on rigid aneurysm models have been conducted using Particle Image Velocimetry over a range of Reynolds number from 200 to 1600. Above Reynolds number 700, one large recirculating vortex would be formed, occupying the entire aneurysmal pouch. The centre of the vortex is located at region near to the distal neck. A pair of counter rotating vortices would however be formed at Reynolds numbers below 700. For all the aneurysm models considered, the vortex strength, in general, is stronger at higher Reynolds numbers but lower at larger aneurysm size. Maximum strength of the vortex is about 15% of the bulk mean velocity in the upstream parent tube. Estimates of the wall shear stresses are derived from the near wall velocity measurements. Highest level of wall shear stresses always appears at the distal neck of the aneurysmal pouch. Stents and springs of different porosity have been used to dampen the flow movement inside the aneurysm so as to induce the possible formation of thrombosis. It is found that the flow movement inside the aneurysmal pouch can be suppressed to less than 5% of the bulk mean velocity by both devices. Furthermore, regions of high wall shear stresses at the distal neck could also be suppressed by almost 90%. The present results would be useful for further improvements in stent (or spring) technology.

Abstract
Morphological changes in liver biopsies from 40 alcoholic patients were studied, 20 of which being ordinary alcoholics (40-80g ethanol/day) and the other 20 being heavy drinkers (above 80g ethanol/day for over 20 years). All being male who have neither type B nor type C hepatitis. The basic morphological changes observed being: 1. Liver cell degeneration including fatty degeneration & focal ballooning, decrease in liver cell size, occasional giant mitochondrion and Mallory's body formation. 2. Focal necrosis with neutrophil infiltration. 3. Pericellular fibrosis of liver cells, hepatic fibrosis and early cirrhosis. Alcoholic liver disease can be divided into 5 types: I. alcoholic fatty liver (AFL), II. alcoholic hepatitis (AH), III. alcoholic hepatic fibrosis (AHF), IV. alcoholic liver cirrhosis (ALC), V. slight alcoholic liver disease (SALD). The degree of liver damage (liver cell necrosis and hepatic fibrosis) is closely related to the amount of daily ethanol intake. The progression of liver damage observed in our study is much milder than reports from Europe, the U.S. and Japan.

Abstract
We have studied nearly 100 patients with beta-thalassaemia major and 60 patients with Hb H disease who were attending the Haematology Clinic of Guangxi Medical College. Treatment of the patients was limited and only a few patients with beta-thalassaemia major received blood transfusion(s). As a result, the severe anaemia has led to early death at 3-4 years for beta zero-thalassaemia homozygotes, and 8-12 years for beta(+)-thalassaemia homozygotes. Four beta-thalassaemia alleles are responsible for nearly 90% of all beta-thalassaemia chromosomes. This information has resulted in the initiation of a prenatal testing programme at the local level. The patients with Hb H disease maintained a haemoglobin level of 6-10 g/dl and early death was infrequently observed. The --SEA deletion was the major type of alpha-thalassemia-1, while three smaller deletions (-2.7, -3.7 and -4.2 kb) and two nondeletional alpha-thalassaemia determinants (Hbs Constant Spring and Quong Sze) were the alpha-thalassaemia-2 types.

Abstract
Non-enzymatic glycosylation of vascular wall collagen is considered to be most important in the pathogenesis of diabetic microangiopathy, and glycosylated collagens are reported to bind immunoglobulins in vivo. We investigated the occurrence of IgG or IgM deposits in the microvasculature of certain organs of diabetics using routine autopsy materials. Glomerular capillary basement membrane/endothelium was often positive for IgM in diabetics. Endothelial cells of glomerular capillaries were positive for HLA-DR in 6 of 16 diabetics and in 2 of 11 controls. This was associated with IgM or IgG deposits in 5 cases. In the esophagus and/or tongue of diabetics, IgG was frequently deposited in the microvasculature. In total, IgG deposits were found in 13 of 16 diabetics, either in the esophagus or the tongue, but in only 3 of 16 controls. The difference was significant at p less than 0.005. These observations suggest that deposition of immunoglobulins is a component of diabetic microangiopathy. Differences in expression of HLA-DR in glomeruli between diabetics and non-diabetics remain to be explored.
