Abstract
PURPOSE This study was designed to explore the effects of interleukin 33 (IL-33) on the progression of atherosclerosis and the possible mechanism. METHODS The adhesion assay was performed on isolated peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) and human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVEC). The expression of proteins and messenger RNA (mRNA) were detected by western blot and quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR), including intercellular cell adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1), vascular cell adhesion molecule-1 (VCAM-1), and P-selectin. The effect of IL-33 on the interaction of growth stimulation expressed gene 2 (ST2) with myeloid differentiation factor 88 (MyD88) and interleukin-1 receptor-associated kinase (IRAK) 1/4 were investigated using co-immunoprecipitation assay. An apolipoprotein (Apo) E-/- mice model was used to confirm the effect of IL-33 on atherosclerosis progression. Area of plaques was recorded by hematoxylin-eosin (H&E) staining. The severity of atherosclerosis plaque was evaluated using immunohistochemistry assay, and lipid accumulation was measured by an oil red O staining. In contrast, western blot was performed to detect the expression levels of VCAM-1, extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK) 1/2, and interferon regulatory factor 1 (IRF1). RESULTS Our study observed that IL-33 suppressed cell adhesion and the expression of VCAM-1 in tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) exposed HUVEC. Moreover, the addition of IL-33 significantly inhibited the expression of IRF1 and the binding level of IRF1 to VCAM-1 and also promoted the phosphorylation level of IRAK1/4 and ERK1/2 compared to TNF-α-stimulated HUVEC. The ST2 neutralizing antibody or ERK pathway inhibitor SCH772984 reversed the regulatory effects of IL-33 on HUVEC, suggesting that IL-33 suppressed IRF1 and VCAM-1 dependent on binding to ST2 and activating the ERK1/2 signaling pathway. Further investigation in vivo confirmed that IL-33 decreased the expressions of IRF1 and VCAM-1 by activating the phosphorylation of ERK1/2 in the thoracic aorta of Apo E-/- mice. CONCLUSION In conclusion, our results demonstrated that IL-33 plays a protective role in the progression of atherosclerosis by inhibiting cell adhesion via the ERK1/2-IRF1-VCAM-1 pathway. This study may provide a potential therapeutic way to prevent the development of atherosclerosis.

Cognitive decrements in 1991 Gulf War veterans: associations with Gulf War illness and neurotoxicant exposures in the Boston Biorepository, Recruitment, and Integrative Network (BBRAIN) cohorts. Environ Health 2023; 22:68. [PMID: 37794452 PMCID: PMC10548744 DOI: 10.1186/s12940-023-01018-2] [Citation(s) in RCA: 0] [Impact Index Per Article: 0] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Key Words] [MESH Headings] [Grants] [Track Full Text] [Journal Information] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Received: 06/23/2023] [Accepted: 09/19/2023] [Indexed: 10/06/2023]
Abstract
BACKGROUND During deployment, veterans of the 1991 Gulf War (GW) were exposed to multiple war-related toxicants. Roughly a third of these veterans continue to exhibit neurotoxicant induced symptoms of Gulf War Illness (GWI), a multi-faceted condition that includes fatigue, pain and cognitive decrements. When studied empirically, both deployed veterans with exposures and those who meet the criteria for GWI are more likely to show deficits in the area of neuropsychological functioning. Although studies have shown cognitive impairments in small sample sizes, it is necessary to revisit these findings with larger samples and newer cohorts to see if other areas of deficit emerge with more power to detect such differences. A group of researchers and clinicians with expertise in the area of GWI have identified common data elements (CDE) for use in research samples to compare data sets. At the same time, a subgroup of researchers created a new repository to share these cognitive data and biospecimens within the GWI research community. METHODS The present study aimed to compare cognitive measures of attention, executive functioning, and verbal memory in a large sample of GWI cases and healthy GW veteran controls using neuropsychological tests recommended in the CDEs. We additionally subdivided samples based on the specific neurotoxicant exposures related to cognitive deficits and compared exposed versus non-exposed veterans regardless of case criteria status. The total sample utilized cognitive testing outcomes from the newly collated Boston, Biorepository, Recruitment, and Integrative Network (BBRAIN) for GWI. RESULTS Participants included 411 GW veterans, 312 GWI (cases) and 99 healthy veterans (controls). Veterans with GWI showed significantly poorer attention, executive functioning, learning, and short-and-long term verbal memory than those without GWI. Further, GW veterans with exposures to acetylcholinesterase inhibiting pesticides and nerve gas agents, had worse performance on executive function tasks. Veterans with exposure to oil well fires had worse performance on verbal memory and those with pyridostigmine bromide anti-nerve gas pill exposures had better verbal memory and worse performance on an attention task compared to unexposed veterans. CONCLUSIONS This study replicates prior results regarding the utility of the currently recommended CDEs in determining impairments in cognitive functioning in veterans with GWI in a new widely-available repository cohort and provides further evidence of cognitive decrements in GW veterans related to war-related neurotoxicant exposures.

Genetic association between the APOE ε4 allele, toxicant exposures and Gulf war illness diagnosis. Environ Health 2023; 22:51. [PMID: 37415220 PMCID: PMC10324249 DOI: 10.1186/s12940-023-01002-w] [Citation(s) in RCA: 0] [Impact Index Per Article: 0] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Key Words] [MESH Headings] [Grants] [Track Full Text] [Journal Information] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Received: 04/13/2023] [Accepted: 06/28/2023] [Indexed: 07/08/2023]
Abstract
INTRODUCTION Exposure to nerve agents, pyridostigmine bromide (PB), pesticides, and oil-well fires during the 1991 Gulf War (GW) are major contributors to the etiology of Gulf War Illness (GWI). Since the apolipoprotein E (APOE) ε4 allele is associated with the risk of cognitive decline with age, particularly in the presence of environmental exposures, and cognitive impairment is one of the most common symptoms experienced by veterans with GWI, we examined whether the ε4 allele was associated with GWI. METHODS Using a case-control design, we obtained data on APOE genotypes, demographics, and self-reported GW exposures and symptoms that were deposited in the Boston Biorepository and Integrative Network (BBRAIN) for veterans diagnosed with GWI (n = 220) and healthy GW control veterans (n = 131). Diagnosis of GWI was performed using the Kansas and/or Center for Disease Control (CDC) criteria. RESULTS Age- and sex-adjusted analyses showed a significantly higher odds ratio for meeting the GWI case criteria in the presence of the ε4 allele (Odds ratio [OR] = 1.84, 95% confidence interval [CI = 1.07-3.15], p ≤ 0.05) and with two copies of the ε4 allele (OR = 1.99, 95% CI [1.23-3.21], p ≤ 0.01). Combined exposure to pesticides and PB pills (OR = 4.10 [2.12-7.91], p ≤ 0.05) as well as chemical alarms and PB pills (OR = 3.30 [1.56-6.97] p ≤ 0.05) during the war were also associated with a higher odds ratio for meeting GWI case criteria. There was also an interaction between the ε4 allele and exposure to oil well fires (OR = 2.46, 95% CI [1.07-5.62], p ≤ 0.05) among those who met the GWI case criteria. CONCLUSION These findings suggest that the presence of the ε4 allele was associated with meeting the GWI case criteria. Gulf War veterans who reported exposure to oil well fires and have an ε4 allele were more likely to meet GWI case criteria. Long-term surveillance of veterans with GWI, particularly those with oil well fire exposure, is required to better assess the future risk of cognitive decline among this vulnerable population.

Abstract
ObjectiveThis study explored the relationship between college students’ physical activity motivation and exercise behavior and constructed a chain mediation model through the mediating roles of exercise climate and exercise self-efficacy.MethodsBy random sampling, 1,032 college students were investigated using the Exercise Motivation Scale, Physical Exercise Rating Scale, Exercise Climate Scale, and Exercise Self-Efficacy Scale.Results(1) There was a huge positive correlation between exercise motivation and exercise behavior (r = 0.240, p < 0.01), and the immediate ways of linking exercise motivation to exercise behavior were critical (β = 0.068, t = 0.040, p < 0.01). (2) Exercise motivation could positively predict exercise climate (β = 0.373, t = 0.061, p < 0.01) and exercise self-efficacy (β = 0.174, t = 0.039, p < 0.01), and exercise climate could emphatically foresee exercise behavior (β = 0.302, t = 0.051, p < 0.01). Exercise self-efficacy could foresee exercise behavior decidedly (β = 0.190, t = 0.048, p < 0.01). (3) Exercise climate and exercise self-efficacy play a critical intervening role between exercise motivation and exercise behavior. The intercession impact is explicitly made out of aberrant impacts created in three ways: exercise motivation → exercise climate → exercise behavior (mediating effect value: 0.113); exercise motivation → exercise self-efficacy → exercise behavior (mediating effect value: 0.033); exercise motivation → exercise climate → exercise self-efficacy → exercise behavior (mediating effect value: 0.027).Conclusion(1) Exercise climate, exercise self-efficacy, and exercise behavior can all be significantly predicted by exercise motivation, suggesting that exercise motivation may help to enhance these variables. (2) In addition to having a direct impact on exercise behavior, exercise motivation can also have an indirect impact through the separate mediating effects of exercise climate and exercise self-efficacy as well as the chain mediating effect of exercise climate and exercise self-efficacy, which is crucial for encouraging college students to engage in physical activity.

Abstract
Epigenetics, as a discipline that aims to explain the differential expression of phenotypes arising from the same gene sequence and the heritability of epigenetic expression, has received much attention in medicine. Epigenetic mechanisms are constantly being discovered, including DNA methylation, histone modifications, noncoding RNAs and m6A. The immune system mainly achieves an immune response through the differentiation and functional expression of immune cells, in which epigenetic modification will have an important impact. Because of immune infiltration in the tumor microenvironment, immunotherapy has become a research hotspot in tumor therapy. Epigenetics plays an important role in autoimmune diseases and cancers through immunology. An increasing number of drugs targeting epigenetic mechanisms, such as DNA methyltransferase inhibitors, histone deacetylase inhibitors, and drug combinations, are being evaluated in clinical trials for the treatment of various cancers (including leukemia and osteosarcoma) and autoimmune diseases (systemic lupus erythematosus, rheumatoid arthritis, systemic sclerosis). This review summarizes the progress of epigenetic regulation for cancers and autoimmune diseases to date, shedding light on potential therapeutic strategies.

Abstract
BACKGROUND A magnetic ball is a toy for children that can cause physical injury when used improperly. The injury of urethra and bladder caused by magnetic ball is rarely reported. CASE Here we present a case of self-inflicted intravesical insertion of 83 magnetic balls by a 10-year-old boy. Preliminary diagnosis was made by a plain radiograph of the pelvis and ultrasonic examination of bladder and all the magnetic balls were removed under cystoscopy successfully. CONCLUSIONS For children with recurrent bladder irritation, the possibility of bladder foreign body should be considered. Surgery is an effective method. For patients without serious complications, cystoscopy is the gold standard for diagnosis and treatment.

Abstract
Background: With the continued advancement of RNA-seq (RNA-sequencing), microRNA (miRNA) editing events have been demonstrated to play an important role in different malignancies. However, there is yet no description of the miRNA editing events in recurrent bladder cancer. Objective: To identify and compare miRNA editing events in primary and recurrent bladder cancer, as well as to investigate the potential molecular mechanism and its impact on patient prognosis. Methods: We examined the mRNA and miRNA transcriptomes of 12 recurrent bladder cancer cases and 13 primary bladder cancer cases. The differentially expressed mRNA sequences were analyzed. Furthermore, we identified the differentially expressed genes (DEGs) in recurrent bladder cancer. The Gene Ontology (GO) functional enrichment analyses on DEGs and gene set enrichment analysis were performed. The consensus molecular subtype (CMS) classification of bladder cancer was identified using the Consensus MIBC package in R (4.1.0); miRNA sequences were then further subjected to differentially expressed analysis and pathway enrichment analysis. MiRNA editing events were identified using miRge3.0. miRDB and TargetScanHuman were used to predict the downstream targets of specific differentially edited or expressed miRNAs. The expression levels of miR-154-5p and ADAR were validated by RT-qPCR. Finally, survival and co-expression studies were performed on the TCGA-BLCA cohort. Results: First, the mRNA expression levels in recurrent bladder cancer changed significantly, supporting progression via related molecular signal pathways. Second, significantly altered miRNAs in recurrent bladder cancer were identified, with miR-154-5p showing the highest level of editing in recurrent bladder cancer and may up-regulate the expression levels of downstream targets HS3ST3A1, AQP9, MYLK, and RAB23. The survival analysis results of TCGA data revealed that highly expressed HS3ST3A1 and RAB23 exhibited poor prognosis. In addition, miR-154 editing events were found to be significant to CMS classification. Conclusion: MiRNA editing in recurrent bladder cancer was detected and linked with poor patient prognosis, providing a reference for further uncovering the intricate molecular mechanism in recurrent bladder cancer. Therefore, inhibiting A-to-I editing of miRNA may be a viable target for bladder cancer treatment, allowing current treatment choices to be expanded and individualized.

Abstract
MXenes, a novel family of 2D transition metal carbide, nitride and carbonitride materials, have been gaining tremendous interest in recent days as potential electrocatalysts for various electrochemical reactions, including hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). MXenes are characterized by their etchable metal layers, excellent structural stability, versatility for heteroatoms doping, excellent electronic conductivity, unique surface functional groups and admirable surface area, suitable for the role of electrocatalyst/support in electrochemical reactions, such as HER. In this review article, we summarized recent developments in MXene-based electrocatalysts synthesis and HER performance in terms of the theoretical and experimental point of view. We systematically evaluated the superiority of the MXene-based catalysts over traditional Pt/C catalysts in terms of HER kinetics, Tafel slope, overpotential and stability, both in acidic and alkaline electrolytic environments. We also pointed out the motives behind the electro catalytic enhancements, the effect of synthesis conditions, heteroatom doping, the effect of surface terminations on the electrocatalytic active sites of various MXenes families. At the end, various possible approaches were recommended for a deeper understanding of the active sites and catalytic improvement of MXenes catalysts for HER.

Abstract
Purpose: To explore new treatment options for bladder cancer (BC) based on topiramate (TPM).Methods: The MTT assay and flow cytometry were used to determine the effect of topiramate on partial growth-related malignant phenotype of BC cells. Expression levels of apoptosis-related biomarkers and signaling pathway-related factors were analyzed using quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) and Western blotting. In vivo experiments were conducted to investigate the role of TPM on tumor growth in mice with bladder cancer. Results: The MTT results showed that topiramate blocked the growth of BC cells (p < 0.05). Growth inhibition was positively correlated with TPM concentration. Flow cytometry results revealed that bladder cancer cell apoptosis rose with increase in TPM concentration, while the mRNAs of apoptosisassociated factors Bcl-2 and Mcl-1 were down-regulated in a concentration-based manner by TPM (p < 0.05). Western blot assay indicated that Bax and Caspase-3 proteins were up-regulated, and the higher the concentration of TPM, the more significant the protein expression levels (p < 0.05).Conclusion: Topiramate (TPM) slows down the rate of growth of BC cells and accelerates their rate of apoptosis through the regulation of P13K/AKT/mTOR signaling pathway. Thus, the compound has potentials for development as an anti-bladder cancer agent.

Abstract
Society is currently contemplating sustainable growth strategies, which have become somewhat apprehensive by associating entrepreneurship, innovation, and sustainable development. In this perspective, this article's objective is to connect sustainable development to environmentally sensitive entrepreneurship via scientific proof of developing nations. Therefore, this research objective is to confirm the hypothesis of corporate social responsibility (CSR) to confirm that Pakistan achieves its objectives for sustainable development. The combined average estimator and pooled mean group (PMG) model of the self-release lag model determines a lengthy-term combination of factors and environmental analysis in the Kuznets. We can see the U-shaped ecological arcs in Pakistan. Further results show that the pooled mean group autoregressive distributed lag (PMG-ARDL) estimator has a long-term relationship. This indicates that a 1% rise in per-capita income at some stage of industrial growth will reduce environmental emissions by 2.88%, 4.54%, and 2.48%. The results show that (1) CSR has a substantial and robust link to the two factors of organizational success (employee engagement and credibility); (ii) respectively socio-cultural and ecological CSR make a positive contribution to the success of Pakistani companies; (iii) the ecological dimensions of CSR being the essential relevance to Pakistani companies' credibility and engagement of employees. This research attempts to include additional analytical information on the contribution of CSR to profitable growth. This also has academic and empirical ramifications, showing how domestic and international companies in developing countries can do CSR. This research is expected to give guidance to policymakers.

Abstract
Cases of patients with cystic partially differentiated nephroblastoma (CPDN) have been reported to date, which presented as polycystic renal tumor in all of them. It is a special pathological type of nephroblastoma. Here, we report the first case of a unicystic CPDN in a child. The patient was diagnosed with a simple renal cyst and underwent laparoscopic decortication. The naive nephron was found in the pathological section, and the diagnosis of CPDN was confirmed. The patient then underwent a radical nephrectomy and six cycles of postoperative chemotherapy. There was no recurrence or metastasis after 2 years of follow-up. Pediatric CPDN presenting as a unicystic renal tumor poses a new challenge to the diagnosis, differential diagnosis, and treatment of unicystic renal tumor.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Dieulafoy lesion is a calibre persistent submucosal artery associated with a minuter mucosal defect. Dieulafoy lesion has been reported to account for 1-5.8% of acute nonvariceal upper gastrointestinal bleeding in adults, but it is rarely reported in children. CASE Here we report a case of duodenal Dieulafoy lesion in a 13-year-old boy. After endoscopy and laparotomy, he still had no definite diagnosis and effective treatment. The duodenal Dieulafoy lesion was finally identified by selective angiography and was effectively treated by intravascular embolization. CONCLUSIONS For unexplained upper gastrointestinal bleeding, the possibility of duodenal Dieulafoy lesion should be considered. A combination of multiple diagnosis and treatment methods can improve the success rate of diagnosis and treatment when a single test or treatment method cannot provide definitive diagnosis or effective treatment.

Abstract
Purpose
Steered by upper echelon theory, this study aims to scrutinize the prevalence of project manager demographic factors (age, education and experience) in project sustainability management and project performance.
Design/methodology/approach
We used a sample of 209 project managers/supervisor/team leaders who were working in the projects of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
Findings
The results indicate that project manager demographic factors have a significant influence on project performance (except experience) and project sustainability management. Moreover, project sustainability management partially mediates the relationship between age, education and project performance while it fully mediates the path between experience and project performance.
Practical implications
The research recommends senior, high educated and experienced managers for CPEC who promote sustainability and gain high project performance.
Originality/value
A number of studies have been carried out to assess the relationship between top managers’ attributes and environmental activities. However, so far, none of the studies has paid attention to the CPEC and projects working in Pakistan.

Abstract
Objectives: To investigate the predictive factors for successful recanalization based on digital subtraction angiography and three-dimensional T1W sampling perfection with application-optimized contrasts using different flip angle evolutions (3D T1-SPACE) high-resolution magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) signal features. Methods: Consecutive internal carotid artery occlusion cases with ipsilateral ischemic stroke refractory to therapy who visited our institution between February 2017 and August 2020 were retrospectively analyzed. Epidemiology, symptomatology, imaging morphology on angiography and MRI, peri-procedural complications, technical success rate, and follow-up results were summarized. Factors related to technical success were analyzed using univariate and multivariate analyses. Results: In total, 75 cases (53 men, mean age 57.51 ± 9.71 years) were included. The total successful recanalization rate was 72.00% (54/75), with a complication rate of 13.33% (9/75). Through multivariate analysis, first ischemic stroke in <3 months (OR: 2.57; 95% CI: 1.13–4.58), tapered stump (OR: 4.31; 95% CI: 1.37–13.55), reversed flow of the ophthalmic artery (OR: 2.99; 95% CI: 1.06–8.49), high intraluminal signal on unenhanced T1-SPACE sequence (OR: 16.15; 95% CI: 3.40–76.72), no vessel wall collapse (OR: 17.00; 95% CI: 3.57–81.02), short occlusion length (OR: 9.87; 95% CI: 2.09–46.64), and primary occlusion site at the cervical internal carotid artery (OR: 8.42; 95% CI: 1.04–68.19) were associated with successful recanalization. Conclusion: Besides traditional features such as short ischemic event time, tapered stump, and distal ICA reconstitution by the ophthalmic artery, our study demonstrates that luminal and mural changes determined by 3D SPACE high-resolution MRI could also predict successful endovascular recanalization. Endovascular recanalization for non-acute internal carotid artery occlusion is feasible, but prudent case selection is mandatory considering the high periprocedural complication rate.

Abstract
In a broiler carcass production conveyor system, inspection, monitoring, and grading carcass and cuts based on computer vision techniques are challenging due to cuts segmentation and ambient light conditions issues. This study presents a depth image-based broiler carcass weight prediction system. An Active Shape Model was developed to segment the carcass into 4 cuts (drumsticks, breasts, wings, and head and neck). Five regression models were developed based on the image features for each weight estimation (carcass and its cuts). The Bayesian-ANN model outperformed all other regression models at 0.9981 R2 and 0.9847 R2 in the whole carcass and head and neck weight estimation. The RBF-SVR model surpassed all the other drumstick, breast, and wings weight prediction models at 0.9129 R2, 0.9352 R2, and 0.9896 R2, respectively. This proposed technique can be applied as a nondestructive, nonintrusive, and accurate on-line broiler carcass production system in the automation of chicken carcass and cuts weight estimation.

Abstract
Aconitine is a natural toxic substance belonging to the family of aconitum alkaloids, which is used in small doses by Traditional Chinese practitioners. We present a case of accidental death due to acute aconitine poisoning. A 65-year-old Chinese man presented to a medical clinic with fever and shoulder pain. Soon after administration of intravenous ceftriaxone, a bottle of Chinese medicinal wine was administered. The man rapidly experienced headache, hearing loss and tinnitus, nausea, diarrhea, numbness of the lips, tongue, face, and the upper and lower extremities, cold sweat, fall of blood pressure, and discomfort of the entire body, and he died on the same day. Postmortem examination showed cyanosis of the nail beds, severe congestion in lungs and other organs, bilateral pleural effusions, and infiltration of basophils in the intestinal submucosa. No significant increase of IgE was found in the blood. Toxicological analysis detected aconitine in the medicinal wine, blood, and stomach contents by liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS⁄MS). Aconitine was quantified in cardiac blood as 16.4 ng/ml, and in stomach contents (63.8 ng/ml) and wine sample (10.1 ug/ml). The cause of death was aconitine poisoning. This case report highlights the danger of aconitine. LC-MS⁄MS has the advantages of high analytic speed, sensitivity, and accuracy. It would be desirable for the government to control the use of aconitine-containing herbal extracts.

Abstract
Graphene, a new two-dimensional (2D) material, has attracted considerable attention in recent years because of the metallic characteristics at terahertz frequencies. The phase coupling of multilayer graphene-coupled grating structures is normally used to realize multiple plasmon-induced transparency (PIT) spectral responses. However, the device becomes more complicated with the increase in the number of graphene layers. In this work, we propose a five-step-coupled pyramid-shaped monolayer graphene metamaterial and predict a dynamically controllable PIT with four transparency peaks for the first time in the monolayer graphene metamaterial. A tunable multi-switch and good slow light effect is predicted over the wide PIT window, and the maximum modulation depth is high up to 16.89 dB, which corresponds to 97.95%, while the time delay of the induced transparent window is as high as 0.488 ps, where the corresponding group refractive index is 586. The electric field distributions and quantum level theory are used to explain the physical mechanism of the PIT with four transparency peaks. The coupled mode theory (CMT) is employed to establish the mathematical model of the PIT with four transparency peaks, and the consistency between the simulated and the calculated results is nearly perfect. We believe that the pyramid-shaped monolayer graphene metamaterial could be useful in efficient filters, switches, and slow light devices.

Abstract
Soil samples were collected to determine the pollution status, spatial distribution and mobility of Vanadium (V) in soil around an iron smelter in Panzhihua. The results showed that the topsoils and deep soils were unpolluted to moderately polluted and the subsurface soils was unpolluted with V. V concentrations in the topsoils decreased with the increase of the altitudes and the distances to the smelter. There was a great potential mobility of V in soil and the reductive dissolution of reducible V in the topsoils was responsible for the high concentration of V in the deep soils. Therefore, more attention should be paid to the reducible V when evaluating the mobility of V in soil.

Abstract
AIM This study aims to present a general bibliometric overview of the development status of global nursing research from 2000 to 2019. DESIGN A longitudinal bibliometric analysis of nursing research was conducted. METHODS Nursing research publications (N = 88,665) were obtained from Web of Science. Bibliometric method was used to map the output and citation impact trends of countries/regions, institutions, disciplines, and journals and analyse the research collaboration among countries/regions and institutions. RESULTS The global paper output in nursing research increased steadily over the past two decades and it varied in different countries/regions with the USA being far ahead of the others. The paper output and cross-border collaboration are mainly distributed in several developed countries like the USA, the UK, Australia, and Canada. The University of Pennsylvania, Harvard University, University of Toronto, and University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill have high academic influence in the field of nursing. Increasing attention from academic fields has been paid to research on nursing. Journal of Advanced Nursing is the most prolific and most cited journal in nursing field. CONCLUSION Nursing research has developed steadily over the last two decades. Both the scientific output and research collaboration are disproportionally distributed between high-income countries/regions and low- and middle-income countries/regions. Most research and collaboration have taken place in a few developed countries across North America, Europe, and Oceania. IMPACT The study highlighted the need for policy makers and funding agencies, especially those from low- and middle-income countries/regions, to allocate research funding that supports the nursing higher education and international cooperation so as to promote the development of high-quality nursing research in those countries/regions. At the same time, researchers from non-English-speaking countries/regions should attach more importance to publishing papers in English, strengthening the academic exchanges with international nursing colleagues and better integrating into the international academic community.

Abstract
Background Expert groups have recommended incorporation of a geriatric assessment into clinical practice for older patients starting oncologic therapy. However, that practice is not standard primarily because of resource limitations. In the present study, we evaluated the effect on treatment decisions by oncologists in the community oncology setting of a brief geriatric assessment tool that estimates risk of toxicity. Methods This prospective longitudinal study in 5 community oncology practices in British Columbia involved patients 70 years of age and older starting a new cytotoxic chemotherapy regimen. Clinical personnel completed a brief validated geriatric assessment tool-the Cancer and Aging Research Group chemotherapy toxicity tool (carg-tt)-that estimates the risk of grade 3 or greater toxicity in older patients. Physicians were asked if the carg-tt changed their treatment plan or prompted extra supports. Patients were followed to assess the incidence of toxicity during treatment. Results The study enrolled 199 patients between July 2016 and February 2018. Mean age was 77 years. Treatment was palliative in 61.4% of the group. Compared with physician judgment, the carg-tt predicted higher rates of toxicity. In 5 patients, treatment was changed based on the carg-tt. In 38.5% of the patients, data from the tool prompted extra supports. Within the first 3 cycles of treatment, 21.3% of patients had experienced grade 3 or greater toxicity. Conclusions This study demonstrates that use of a brief geriatric assessment tool is possible in a broad community oncology practice. The tool modified the oncologist's supportive care plan for a significant number of older patients undertaking cytotoxic chemotherapy.

Ultrasound-assisted oil removal of γ-Al 2O 3-based spent hydrodesulfurization catalyst and microwave roasting recovery of metal Mo. ULTRASONICS SONOCHEMISTRY 2018; 49:24-32. Abstract
Currently, roasting-leaching is the main treatment process of spent hydrodesulfurization (HDS) catalyst, but it will produce impurities, such as nickel molybdate and cobalt molybdate (NiMoO4 or CoMoO4), which is adverse to recover valuable metals. In this paper, a combined ultrasonic-microwave method was developed to remove oil and recover molybdenum (Mo) from the spent HDS catalyst. Firstly, ethanol was used to extract the surface oil of the spent MoNiCo/Al2O3 catalyst with ultrasonic assistance. Effects of temperature, ultrasonic time, liquid-solid ratio and ultrasonic power on the oil removal rate were investigated systematically and the process conditions were optimized using response surface methodology (RSM). The results showed that the oil removal rate was over 99% under the optimum conditions of temperature 55 °C, ultrasonic time 2 h, liquid to solid ratio 5:1, and ultrasonic power 600 W. After oil removal, the sample was roasted in microwave field at 500 °C for 15 min. The generation of toxic gas could be effectively avoided and no hardest-to-recycle impurity CoMoO4 was found. At last, the roasted sample was subjected to ultrasonic leaching with sodium carbonate (Na2CO3) solution for recovering Mo. Extraction of Mo of the deoiled sample after microwave roasting reached 94.3%, which is about 7% higher than that of oily sample. Moreover, microwave roasting method resulted in a much higher Mo extraction than traditional method for both the oily and deoiled spent catalyst. It was concluded that the ultrasonic-microwave assisted method could remarkably improve the recovery of Mo and greatly shorten the processing time.

Efficient generation of antigen-specific CTLs by the BAFF-activated human B Lymphocytes as APCs: a novel approach for immunotherapy. Oncotarget 2018; 7:77732-77748. Abstract
Efficient antigen presentation is indispensable for cytotoxic T lymphocyte (CTL)-mediated immunotherapy. B-lymphocytes propagated with CD40L have been developed as antigen-presenting cells (APCs), but this capacity needs further optimization. Here, we aimed to expand human B-lymphocytes on a large scale while maintaining their antigen-presenting ability by using both CD40L and B-cell activating factor (BAFF). The addition of BAFF enhanced the expansion efficiency and prolonged the culture time without causing apoptosis of the expanded B-cells. This method thus provided an almost unlimited source of cellular adjuvant to achieve sufficient expansion of CTLs in cases where several rounds of stimulation are required. We also showed that the addition of BAFF significantly enhanced the expression of major costimulatory molecules, CD80 and CD86. Subsequently, the antigen-presenting ability of the B-lymphocytes also increased. Consequently, these B-lymphocytes showed robust CTL responses to inhibit tumor growth after tumor-specific peptide pulses. A similar method induced potent antigen-specific CTL responses, which effectively eradicated human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) latency in CD4 T-lymphocytes isolated from patients receiving suppressive anti-retroviral therapy (ART). Together, our findings indicate that potent antigen-specific CTLs can be generated using BAFF-activated B-lymphocytes as APCs ex vivo. This approach can be applied for CTL-mediated immunotherapy in patients with cancers or chronic viral infections.

Abstract
Post-menopausal osteoporosis (PMOP) is a metabolic bone disorder characterized by low bone mass and micro-architectural deterioration of bone tissue. The over-activated osteoclastogenesis, which plays an important role in osteoporosis, has become an important therapeutic target. M54 was a bioactive derivative of the Chinese traditional herb matrine. We found that M54 could suppress RANKL-induced osteoclastogenesis in bone marrow mononuclear cells and RAW264.7 cells through suppressing NF-κB, PI3K/AKT, and MAPKs pathways activity in vitro, and prevent ovariectomy-induced bone loss in vivo. Our previous study has proved that ribosomal protein S5 (RPS5) was a direct target of M19, based on which M54 was synthesized. Thus we deduced that M54 also targeted RPS5. During osteoclastogenesis, the RPS5 level in RAW264.7 cells was significantly down-regulated while M54 could maintain its level. After RPS5 was silenced, the inhibitory effects of M54 on osteoclastogenesis were partially compromised, indicating that M54 took effects through targeting RPS5. In summary, M54 was a potential clinical medicine for post-menopause osteoporosis treatment, and RPS5 is a possible key protein in PMOP.

Abstract
Evaluation of output images carrying visual semantics is a challenging task which is carried out by domain experts through visual inspection. Automatic test oracle is required to augment the test oracle problem and to eliminate the manual efforts. Metamorphic testing is an effective technique to alleviate these problems. In this paper, the authors have demonstrated that how inherent properties of implementation under test can be used to generate an automatic test oracle for image processing applications. Metamorphic testing is a general technique in which follow-up test cases are generated using a transformation function and the anticipated output is evaluated. They have used some general metamorphic relations and also designed some algorithm specific metamorphic relations for morphological image operations. Selection of metamorphic relations is the most important step and the authors have analyzed relative effectiveness of different metamorphic relations using mutation analysis. The results show metamorphic testing is a very effective technique to automate output images evaluation and to alleviate oracle problem.

Abstract
AbstractThe main non-biodegradable compounds (soluble microbial product – SMP) of wastewater from the Maotai aromatic factories, located in the Chishui river region, were analyzed by UV spectroscopy, and by solid-phase extraction followed by gas chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry, after a two-stage biochemical treatment. The UV-Vis spectra revealed that the wastewater contained two double-bonds in conjugated systems (conjugated diene or α, β- unsaturated ketone, etc.) and simple non-conjugated chromophores containing n electrons from carbonyl groups or the like. The residual organic non-biodegradable substances were identified using SPE-GC/MS analysis as complex polymers containing hydroxyl, carbonyl, and carboxyl functional groups with multiple connections to either benzene rings or heterocyclic rings. As these compounds are difficult to remove by conventional biochemical treatments, our findings provide a scientific basis for the design of efficient new strategies to remove SMP from wastewater.
