Abstract
BACKGROUND Considering the health literacy status of service seekers is crucial while developing programs and policies to improve service delivery in primary health care settings. OBJECTIVE Our aim was to assess health literacy among adults seeking non-communicable disease (NCD)-related services in primary health care centers (PHC) of Bangladesh and identify its contributing factors and its preventive effect on risky behaviors. METHODS In this cross-sectional study, 2,793 NCD service seekers were interviewed face-to-face from eight rural and three urban PHCs selected by a multi-stage random sampling method. We used the European Health Literacy Survey Questionnaire to collect data on health literacy. We applied logistic regression analysis to identify the contributing factors related to adequate health literacy. Odds ratios were used to calculate the preventive fraction of health literacy for NCD risk behaviors. KEY RESULTS Limited health literacy was found among 43% of the respondents. Adequate health literacy was associated with younger age, male sex, having a formal education, living in an extended family, hailing from a high socioeconomic group, and attending urban PHC. After adjusting the sociodemographic factors, the prevalence of smoking, smokeless tobacco usage, and inadequate fruits and vegetables consumption among participants were found to be 25%, 51%, and 18% lower for people with sufficient health literacy. CONCLUSIONS NCD service seekers have a high rate of inadequate health literacy. Adequate health literacy has the potential to lower the behavioral risk factors of NCDs. Abstract
Neddylation is a protein modification process similar to ubiquitination, carried out through a series of activating (E1), conjugating (E2), and ligating (E3) enzymes. This process has been found to be overactive in various cancers, leading to increased oncogenic activities. Ubiquitin-conjugating enzyme 2 M (UBE2M) is one of two neddylation enzymes that play a vital role in this pathway. Studies have shown that targeting UBE2M in cancer treatment is crucial, as it regulates many molecular mechanisms like DNA damage, apoptosis, and cell proliferation. However, developing small molecule inhibitors against UBE2M remains challenging due to the lack of suitable druggable pockets. We have discovered that Micafungin, an antifungal agent that inhibits the production of 1,3-β-D-glucan in fungal cell walls, acts as a neddylation inhibitor that targets UBE2M. Biochemical studies reveal that Micafungin obstructs neddylation and stabilizes UBE2M. In cellular experiments, the drug was found to interact with UBE2M, prevent neddylation, accumulate cullin ring ligases (CRLs) substrates, reduce cell survival and migration, and induce DNA damage in gastric cancer cells. This research uncovers a new anti-cancer mechanism for Micafungin, paving the way for the development of a novel class of neddylation inhibitors that target UBE2M.

Abstract
The World Health Organization recommended reducing one's salt intake below 5 g/day to prevent disability and death from cardiovascular and other chronic diseases. This review aimed to identify salt estimation at the population level in South Asian countries, namely Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. We searched electronic databases and government websites for the literature and reports published between January 2011 and October 2021 and also consulted key informants for unpublished reports. We included studies that assessed salt intake from urinary sodium excretion, either spot urine or a 24 h urine sample, on a minimum of 100 samples in South Asian countries. We included 12 studies meeting the criteria after screening 2043 studies, out of which five followed nationally representative methods. This review revealed that salt intake in South Asian countries ranges from 6.7-13.3 g/day. The reported lowest level of salt intake was in Bangladesh and India, and the highest one was in Nepal. The estimated salt intake reported in the nationally representative studies were ranging from 8 g/day (in India) to 12.1 g/day (in Afghanistan). Salt consumption in men (8.9-12.5 g/day) was reported higher than in women (7.1-12.5 g/day). Despite the global target of population salt intake reduction, people in South Asian countries consume a much higher amount of salt than the WHO-recommended level.

Abstract
Dysregulation of various cells in the tumor microenvironment (TME) causes immunosuppressive functions and aggressive tumor growth. In combination with immune checkpoint blockade (ICB), epigenetic modification-targeted drugs are emerging as attractive cancer treatments. Lysine-specific demethylase 1 (LSD1) is a protein that modifies histone and non-histone proteins and is known to influence a wide variety of physiological processes. The dysfunction of LSD1 contributes to poor prognosis, poor patient survival, drug resistance, immunosuppression, etc., making it a potential epigenetic target for cancer therapy. This review examines how LSD1 modulates different cell behavior in TME and emphasizes the potential use of LSD1 inhibitors in combination with ICB therapy for future cancer research studies.

Abstract
The phonocardiogram (PCG) or heart sound auscultation is a low-cost and non-invasive method to diagnose Congenital Heart Disease (CHD). However, recognizing CHD in the pediatric population based on heart sounds is difficult because it requires high medical training and skills. Also, the dependency of PCG signal quality on sensor location and developing heart in children are challenging. This study proposed a deep learning model that classifies unprocessed or raw PCG signals to diagnose CHD using a one-dimensional Convolution Neural Network (1D-CNN) with an attention transformer. The model was built on the raw PCG data of 484 patients. The results showed that the attention transformer model had a good balance of accuracy of 0.923, a sensitivity of 0.973, and a specificity of 0.833. The Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) plot generated an Area Under Curve (AUC) value of 0.964, and the F1-score was 0.939. The suggested model could provide quick and appropriate real-time remote diagnosis application in classifying PCG of CHD from non-CHD subjects.Clinical Relevance- The suggested methodology can be utilized to analyze PCG signals more quickly and affordably for rural doctors as a first screening tool before sending the cases to experts.

Abstract
Histone deacetylase 6 (HDAC6) is a class IIb histone deacetylase that contains two catalytic domains and a zinc-finger ubiquitin binding domain (ZnF-UBP) domain. The deacetylation function of HDAC6 has been extensively studied with common substrates such as α-tubulin, cortactin, and Hsp90. Apart from its deacetylase activity, HDAC6 ZnF-UBP binds to unanchored ubiquitin of specific sequences and serves as a carrier for transporting aggregated proteins. As a result, aggresomes are formed and protein degradation is facilitated by the autophagy-lysosome pathway. This HDAC6-dependent microtubule transport can be used by cells to assemble and activate inflammasomes, which play a critical role in immune regulation. Even viruses can benefit from the carrier of HDAC6 to assist in uncoating their surfaces during their infection cycle. However, HDAC6 is also capable of blocking virus invasion and replication in a non-enzymatic manner. Given these non-enzymatic functions, HDAC6 is closely associated with various diseases, including neurodegeneration, inflammasome-associated diseases, cancer, and viral infections. Small molecule inhibitors targeting the ubiquitin binding pocket of HDAC6 have been investigated. In this review, we focus on mechanisms in non-enzymatic functions of HDAC6 and discuss the rationality and prospects of therapeutic strategies by intervening the activation of HDAC6 ZnF-UBP in concrete diseases.

Abstract
Histone deacetylase 6 (HDAC6) is the only member of the HDAC family that resides primarily in the cytoplasm with two catalytic domains and a ubiquitin-binding domain. HDAC6 is highly expressed in various solid tumors and participates in a wide range of biological activities, including hormone receptors, the p53 signaling pathway, and the kinase cascade signaling pathway due to its unique structural foundation and abundant substrate types. Additionally, HDAC6 can function as an oncogenic factor in solid tumors, boosting tumor cell proliferation, invasion and metastasis, drug resistance, stemness, and lowering tumor cell immunogenicity, so assisting in carcinogenesis. Pan-HDAC inhibitors for cancer prevention are associated with potential cardiotoxicity in clinical investigations. It's interesting that HDAC6 silencing didn't cause any significant harm to normal cells. Currently, the use of HDAC6 specific inhibitors, individually or in combination, is among the most promising therapies in solid tumors. This review's objective is to give a general overview of the structure, biological functions, and mechanism of HDAC6 in solid tumor cells and in the immunological milieu and discuss the preclinical and clinical trials of selective HDAC6 inhibitors. These endeavors highlight that targeting HDAC6 could effectively kill tumor cells and enhance patients' immunity during solid tumor therapy.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Secundum atrial septal defect (ASD) is treated following trans-catheter closure in alternative to surgical treatment. Per-intervention selection of device size with balloon occlusive diameter (BOD) often cause tearing or enlarging, causing arrhythmias and hypotension. We assessed the suitability of percutaneous device closure for ASD using 3-dimensional transthoracic echocardiography (3DTTE). OBJECTIVES This study was conducted to investigate if 3DTTE could be an alternative of balloon sizing for selection of device size in atrial septal defect device closure. DESIGN It was a cross-sectional comparative study. METHODS This study was conducted at the department of Pediatric Cardiology, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University for a period of 2 years. Thirty-three purposively selected secundum ASD patients suitable for device closure were included in the study. Ethical permission was taken from the Institutional Review Board and written consent was taken from each patient's guardian. In this study, 3DTTE derived ASD diameter and BOD were compared with that of deployed device size using correlation analysis. RESULTS Out of 33 patients, 63.6% were female and 36.4% were males had a mean age of 18.07 ± 14.58 years (range 2-55 years). Mean diameter of ASD measured by 2-dimensional (2D) and 3-dimensional (3D) echocardiography were 17.09 ± 6.08 mm and 21.30 ± 6.56 mm, respectively, yielding a significant difference (p < 0.001). 3D echocardiography derived ASDs diameter were highly correlated with device size than BOD and 2D echocardiography derived diameter (2D echocardiography: r = 0.796, p = <0.001, 3D echocardiography: r = 0.960, p = <0.001, BOD: r = 0.840, p = <0.001). CONCLUSION 3DTTE can accurately measure ASD diameter and can be used as an alternate, effective, and safe method to select device size.

Abstract
Background In Bangladesh, there is a scarcity of nationally representative data on the burden of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Methods To estimate the COPD prevalence in rural settings, this cross-sectional, population-based study was conducted in all eight administrative divisions of Bangladesh, and involved adults aged 40 years and above. By using multi-stage random sampling, 2,458 individuals were enrolled. The Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease (GOLD) guidelines were used to diagnose COPD based on post-bronchodilator lung function, while additional participant data was gathered through computer-assisted personal interviews. Results A 2% COPD prevalence (95% CI: 1.45, 2.55) was found in the study sample with a statistically significant difference between males (2.7%; 95% CI: 1.8, 3.6) and females (1.2%; 95% CI: 0.59, 1.81). Increasing age significantly inflated the odds of having COPD irrespective of sex (OR: 1.03; 95% CI: 1.00, 1.05; P value < 0.05). Furthermore, prevalence of COPD was higher among manual workers, cigarette smokers, and those that used the indoor kitchen and did not have a primary education. Sex-based analysis showed that smokeless tobacco consumption was significantly associated with COPD occurrence among males (OR: 2.14; 95% CI: 1.05, 4.37; P value < 0.05), but not females. Further, using an indoor kitchen increased the odds of developing COPD by 400% among female participants (OR: 4.39; 95% CI: 1.37, 14.10; P value < 0.05). Conclusion This study provides a comprehensive sex-based estimation of COPD prevalence among rural population and imparts significant contribution to the growing database on COPD prevalence in Bangladesh.

Abstract
Objectives: The standard reference value of anti-streptolysin O (ASO) titre for diagnosing acute rheumatic fever (RF) in children is yet to be determined in Bangladesh. We aimed to measure the upper limit of the normal (ULN) of ASO titre among healthy children to determine the cut-off value for the diagnosis of RF in Bangladesh. Methods: A total of 400 healthy children aged 5–15 years with no history of fever, sore throat and impetigo during the last 8 weeks of the study were enrolled. The respondents were randomly selected from an urban non-slum area, an urban slum area and a rural area of Bangladesh. ASO titre was measured using a turbidimetric immunoassay based on the principle of an agglutination reaction. The 80th percentile value was considered as the ULN of ASO titre. Results: Approximately 55% of the children were male. The mean (SD) age of children was 9.1 (2.7) years. The ULN of ASO titre for 5–15 years aged children was 217.4 IU/mL. Conclusion: Our reference value of ASO titre at the 80th percentile will be an essential guide for clinicians to diagnose acute RF.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Interventions aimed at promoting healthy eating habits in adolescence can help prevent chronic diseases and promote healthy ageing. The aim of this paper is to describe the fruit and vegetables consumption habits of adolescents in Dhaka, Bangladesh as well as to identify the socio-environmental, personal, and behavioral factors that influence these habits. MATERIALS AND METHODS The baseline data from an intervention study involving 823 grade ten students from two randomly selected secondary schools in a semi-urban area of Dhaka were analyzed. The intake of fruit and vegetables was measured in terms of serving size per day. Hierarchical multiple regression was used to assess the ability of socio-environmental factors such as social support, perceived barriers, and living with patient with chronic diseases; personal factors such as knowledge, self-rated practice, behavioral intention, and body mass index; and behavioral factors such as physical activity, sedentary hours, and sleep duration to predict the level of daily fruit and vegetables intake, after controlling the effect of demographic characteristics of adolescents. RESULTS The average daily consumption of fruit and vegetables was 1.22 and 1.99 servings, respectively. Only one-fifth of the respondents (21%) reported eating five servings of fruit and vegetables a day. Inaccessibility at home was reported as the most perceived barrier for both fruit and vegetables intake. Adolescents' higher fruit and vegetables intake was found to be associated with higher maternal educational attainment, more social support, adequate self-rated practice, positive behavioral intention, higher body mass index, better physical activity, and adequate daily sleeping. CONCLUSION The findings revealed insufficient fruit and vegetables intake among adolescents in a semi-urban area of Bangladesh and associated socio-environmental, personal, and behavioral factors that were utilized in developing an intervention program for this transient age group. Abstract
According to the Non-communicable disease Risk Factors Survey of 2018, more than one-fifth (21.0%) of adults aged 25 years or older have hypertension and one-third of the adults did not have their blood pressure (BP) measured in their lifetime in Bangladesh. The National Heart Foundation of Bangladesh participated in May Measurement Month (MMM) 2017 and 2018 as well as this 2019 as a part of a global initiative aimed at raising awareness of high BP and to act as a temporary solution to the lack of screening programmes worldwide. This opportunistic screening of voluntary participants aged ≥18 years was carried out from May to July 2019. Data were collected from 100 screening sites in 16 districts in Bangladesh. BP measurement, the definition of hypertension, and statistical analysis followed the MMM protocol. Data on 24 941 individuals were analysed. Among the participants, 12 658 (50.8%) were female. After multiple imputation, 6990 (28.0%) had hypertension. Among the 6990 participants with hypertension, 5007 (71.6%) were on antihypertensive medication and 5331 (76.3%) were aware of having hypertension. Among 6990 participants with hypertension, 3217 (46.0%) had controlled BP (<140/90 mmHg) and among the participants with hypertension and on antihypertensive medication, 64.2% had controlled BP. Opportunistic BP screening can identify significant numbers of people with raised BP and thus assist in the prevention of cardiovascular diseases.

Abstract
This cross-sectional study explored stressful situations of caregivers related to life events of their children suffering from neurodevelopmental disorders along with potential contributing factors. A total of 906 caregivers of children with diagnosed neurodevelopmental disorder, from eight administrative districts and two city corporation areas in Bangladesh were interviewed. The Family Stress and Coping Interview scale was used to evaluate parenting stress. The diagnosis of neurodevelopmental disorder at the outset, feelings about the cause of the disorder, future planning for employment and accommodation for the child and dealing with child sexuality were some important stressful situations for parents. Parenting stress is found to be higher among female [regression coefficient (B) = 5.09, p < 0.001] and less educated caregivers [B = 2.69, p < 0.01]. Increasing age of child [B = 0.82, p < 0.001] and diagnosis of neurodevelopmental disorder before child's second birthday [B = 4.22, p < 0.001] are also associated with higher parenting stress.

Ubiquitin-conjugating enzyme E2 M (UBE2M) and ubiquitin-conjugating enzyme E2 F (UBE2F) are the two NEDD8-conjugating enzymes of the neddylation pathway that take part in posttranslational modification and change the activity of target proteins. The activity of E2 enzymes requires both a 26-residue N-terminal docking peptide and a conserved E2 catalytic core domain, which is the basis for the transfer of neural precursor cell-expressed developmentally downregulated 8 (NEDD8). By recruiting E3 ligases and targeting cullin and non-cullin substrates, UBE2M and UBE2F play diverse biological roles. Currently, there are several inhibitors that target the UBE2M-defective in cullin neddylation protein 1 (DCN1) interaction to treat cancer. As described above, this review provides insights into the mechanism of UBE2M and UBE2F and emphasizes these two E2 enzymes as appealing therapeutic targets for the treatment of cancers.

Abstract
Selenium (Se), a fundamental element of nutrigenomic science in fish nutrition, was used to investigate its impact on selenoproteome expression and Se regulation in tilapia. Different concentrations (T1 - 0, T2 - 0.5, T3 - 1.0 and T4 - 2.0 mg/kg of feed) of dietary nano-Se were incorporated in the diets of monosex Nile tilapia. A total of 180 tilapia fingerlings with initial weight (15.73 ± 0.05 g) were stocked in 150 L capacity FRP tanks categorized into four diet groups with triplicate each for a feeding trial of 90 days. At the end of first, second and third months of the feeding trial, gill, liver, kidney and muscle tissues were harvested to evaluate the effect on the kinetics of Se bioaccumulation and assimilation as well as immune-regulated selenoprotein transcripts (GPx2, SelJ, SelL, SelK, SelS, SelW and Sepp1a) and their synthesis factors (SPS1 and Scly). The findings depicted that significantly (p < 0.05) higher weight gain was found in the diet supplemented with 1.0 mg/kg of nano-Se. The theory of second-order polynomial regression supported the same. The liver showed significantly (p < 0.05) higher Se accumulation and concentration factor among the harvested tissues in a different timeline. All the selected immune-regulated selenoproteins and synthesis factors in different fish tissues showed significantly (p < 0.05) up-regulation in the diet supplemented with 1.0 mg/kg of nano-Se for the second month. Therefore, the present findings suggested that the supplementation of nano-Se could be more effective for improved growth, better selenium regulation and expression of immune-regulated selenoproteins in the fish model.

Abstract
Elevated blood pressure (BP) is a growing burden worldwide, leading to over 10 million deaths each year. According to Non-communicable disease (NCD) Risk Factors Survey Bangladesh 2010, one-fifth (21.9%) of adults aged 25 years or more have hypertension. Almost one-third of the adult population did not have their BP measured in their lifetime in Bangladesh. National Heart Foundation of Bangladesh participated in May Measurement Month (MMM) 2018 as a part of a global initiative aimed at raising awareness of high BP and to act as a temporary solution to the lack of screening programmes nationally. An opportunistic cross-sectional survey of volunteers aged ≥18 years was carried out in May 2018. Blood pressure measurement, the definition of hypertension and statistical analysis followed the MMM protocol. Data were collected from 10 screening sites in 9 districts in Bangladesh. A total of 5208 individuals were screened during MMM18. After multiple imputation, 1750 (33.6%) had hypertension. Among the 1750 participants with hypertension, 1312 (75.0%) were aware of having hypertension. Among those that were not on antihypertensive medication, 15.2% were hypertensive and among those that were on antihypertensive medication 33.6% had uncontrolled hypertension. The present study showed that opportunistic screening can identify significant numbers of people with raised BP. A periodic public health programme at a national level needs to be initiated to increase hypertension detection and control rates and thus for prevention of cardiovascular diseases.

Abstract
Objective Healthcare personnel (HCP) are undoubtedly one of the major frontline fighters in the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. Therefore, it comes as no surprise that many HCP have become infected by COVID-19 globally. The infection of HCP has received great attention in social media and is frequently reported from different parts of the world. However, there are few scientific reports addressing this aspect of the COVID-19 pandemic. The aim of this study was to evaluate the characteristics of clinical presentation, treatment, and outcome of COVID-19 infection among the HCP of our setting. Methods This cross-sectional study was performed in the National Heart Foundation Hospital & Research Institute of Bangladesh from April 29 to July 20, 2020. HCP employed in this hospital who experienced fever or respiratory symptoms or came in close contact with COVID-19 patients at home or their workplace were included in this study. The presence of COVID-19 disease was confirmed by real-time reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction on nasopharyngeal samples. A total of 394 HCP were sampled and 139 had a positive corona test. Structured interviews were conducted to document symptoms for all HCP with confirmed COVID-19. Data analysis was performed in July 2020. Results Out of 1,409 HCP, 139 subjects tested positive for COVID-19. Among the HCP, infection rate was 9.86%. The mean age of the study population was 34.08±11.11 years (range: 20-69 yrs), of whom 82 (59%) were female. Most of this cohort were nurses (56 [40.3%]) and physicians (25 [18%]), and the remaining 58 (41.7%) were other staff. The mean duration of onset of symptoms to test was 2.89±2.07 days. The most common symptoms were fever (84.2%), fatigue (56.1%), cough (54%), body ache (39.6%), headache, and anosmia (38.8%). Most subjects had mild disease (125 [93%]), three (2.1%) of the HCP had moderate disease and one (0.7%) had severe disease. Ten of the HCP (7.2%) were asymptomatic. Most of them were treated either by ivermectin plus azithromycin or ivermectin plus doxycycline. Only 20 (14.4%) of the HCP were hospitalized, while others were treated either in home isolation (59.7%) or in institutional isolation (25.9%). Recovery was almost uneventful except one healthcare worker who died. Conclusion Most HCP had mild symptoms and a few of them were asymptomatic also. HCP with mild COVID-19 symptoms may be treated in home or institutional isolation. As they are a vulnerable group for infection, providing adequate protection to HCP is absolutely mandatory to safeguard them from this pandemic.

Abstract
Introduction Increased level of serum uric acid (SUA) is often considered a risk factor for ischemic stroke. This study was conducted to examine the association of SUA level with ischemic stroke and assessed gender-based differences, if any. Methods In this case-control study, neuroimaging-confirmed ischemic stroke patients were recruited as cases within three days of an incident from neurology in-patient department, and as controls, patients without stroke history were recruited from neurology out-patient department. Blood was collected from the respondents of both groups to assess SUA level, lipid profile and oral glucose tolerance test. Binary logistic regression was done for estimating the risks of ischemic stroke. Results A total of 338 participants were recruited, where 169 were cases and 169 were controls. Around 60 percent respondents of both case and control groups were male. Mean SUA levels for cases and controls were 6.03 (SD 1.84) mg/dl and 4.04 (SD 1.46) mg/dl, respectively. After adjustment for age, tobacco consumption status, diabetes, hypertension, coronary heart disease and dyslipidemia, elevated SUA level was found to be significantly associated with ischemic stroke only in females (OR = 1.49; 95% CI = 1.01–2.19; p<0.05). Overall, each unit increase in SUA level exhibits 25 percent increment in odds of having ischemic stroke (OR = 1.25; 95% CI = 1.02–1.5372; p<0.05). Conclusion This study concluded that elevated SUA level is significantly associated with the acute phase of an ischemic stroke and gender-specific analysis demonstrates this association only in females.

Abstract
The epigenetic regulation of gene expression (via DNA methylation, histone modification and microRNA interference) contributes to a variety of diseases, particularly cancer. Protein deubiquitination serves a key role in the mechanism underlying histone modification, and consequently influences tumor development and progression. Improved characterization of the role of ubiquitinating enzymes has led to the identification of numerous deubiquitinating enzymes (DUBs) with various functions. Gastric cancer (GC) is a highly prevalent cancer type that exhibits a high mortality rate. Latest analysis about cancer patient revealed that GC is sixth deadliest cancer type, which frequently occur in male (7.2%) than female (4.1%). Complex associations between DUBs and GC progression have been revealed in multiple studies; however, the molecular mechanism underpinning the metastasis and recurrence of GC is yet to be elucidated. Generally, DUBs were upregulated in gastric cancer. The relation of DUBs and tumor size, classification and staging was observed in GC. Besides, 5-yar survival rate of patients with GC is effeccted by expression level of DUBs. Among the highly expressed DUBs, specifically six DUBs namely UCHs, USPs, OTUs, MJDs, JAMMs and MCPIPs effect on this survival rate. Consequently, the association between GC and DUBs has received increasing attention in recent years. Therefore, in the present review, literature investigating the association between DUBs and GC pathophysiology was analyzed and critically appraised.

Abstract
AIMS To determine the composition and temporal stability of the gut (faecal) microbiota of sheep (Ovis aries). METHODS AND RESULTS Microbial population dynamics was conducted using ARISA (28 sheep) and 16S rRNA sequencing (11 sheep). Firmicutes and Bacteroidetes were the predominant bacterial phyla, constituting ~80% of the total population. The core faecal bacterial microbiota of sheep consisted of 67 of 136 detected families and 91 of 215 detected species. Predominant microbial taxa included Ruminococcaceae, unassigned families in Bacteroidales and Clostridiales, Verrucomicrobiaceae and Paraprevotellaceae. Diversity indices and core microbiota composition demonstrated the stability of the core microbiota over 2-4 weeks. The core microbiota remained similar over ~5 months. CONCLUSIONS Temporal stability of the sheep microbiota is high over 2-4 weeks in the absence of experimental variables. The core microbiota of Merino sheep shares taxa found in other breeds of sheep and other ruminants. SIGNIFICANCE AND IMPACT OF THE STUDY Numerous studies seek to investigate the impact of experimental variables on gut microbiota composition. To do so, knowledge of the innate stability (or instability) of the microbiota over an experimental time course is required, independent of other variables. We have demonstrated high stability of the gut microbiota in sheep over 3-4 weeks, with moderate stability over ~5 months.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Developing strategies aimed at reducing behavioral risk factors and hence the prevalence of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) is a major challenge to the policy makers today. Like the same age group worldwide, the prevalence of obesity, unhealthy dietary habit, physical inactivity, smoking and alcohol intake is high among the adolescents of Bangladesh. Studies showed promising results of an early intervention at adolescent age in reducing the likelihood of NCDs at adult age. So, this study is designed to implement a behavior change intervention and evaluate the effectiveness of the intervention in reducing the behavioral risk factors of NCDs among the adolescents of Bangladesh. METHODS A before-after designed intervention study will be conducted in two randomly selected secondary schools- one will be selected randomly as intervention school and the another as control school. A baseline survey will be conducted among the students of both schools by a pre-tested questionnaire to attain their current status of knowledge, attitude and practices related to NCDs. Afterward, students will be enrolled in the intervention group who will meet the eligibility criteria from the intervention school. The intervention will be given through a health promotion session to a group of students, not more than 25 at a time, by trained facilitators. A post-intervention end line survey will be conducted among all the participants from both schools using the same questionnaire 3 months after the baseline survey. DISCUSSION An intervention has been developed based on some principals of two psychosocial theory- Motivational Interview and Social Cognitive Theory. Emphasis will be given on motivating the adolescents towards a healthy lifestyle, supporting self-efficacy to be changed, guiding self-regulatory ways along with facilitating desired changing process by empowering them with choices about the preventive measures of NCDs. This intervention is expected to increase awareness by equipping the adolescents with specific knowledge and skills and thus, facilitate an eventual change in their practiced risk behaviors. Besides, this intervention will address multiple behaviors at a time, and will be delivered to a group of adolescents, to attain the cost-effectiveness and thereby making it more realistic in the resource-poor context of Bangladesh. Abstract
Elevated blood pressure (BP) is a growing burden worldwide, leading to over 10 million deaths each year. Based on the findings of the non-communicable disease Risk Factors Survey Bangladesh 2010, the prevalence of hypertension in adults 25 years or older in Bangladesh is 20.1%. The Bangladesh Demographic Health Survey, 2011 showed that approximately 50% of those affected are unaware of their hypertensive condition. The May Measurement Month 2017 (MMM17) is a global initiative of the International Society of Hypertension (ISH) aimed at raising awareness of high BP. We participated in MMM17 to raise awareness of hypertension screening and identify those with elevated BP who were unaware, and those on treatment with still uncontrolled hypertension. Following the standard protocol designed by the ISH, we participated in MMM17, an opportunistic cross-sectional survey of volunteers aged ≥18. It was carried out in May 2017. BP measurement, the definition of hypertension and statistical analysis followed the standard MMM protocol. Data were collected from 35 screening sites in 33 districts in Bangladesh. Personnel from several government and non-government organizations volunteered in this huge event. A total of 11 418 individuals were screened during MMM17, of which 5401 (47.3%) were found to have hypertension. Of 8365 individuals not receiving anti-hypertensive medication, 2348 (28.1%) were hypertensive. Of 3053 individuals receiving anti-hypertensive medication, 1594 (52.2%) had uncontrolled BP. MMM17 was the largest BP screening campaign undertaken in Bangladesh. This study suggests that opportunistic screening can identify significant numbers of people with raised BP. A periodic public health programme at a national level needs to be initiated to increase hypertension detection and control rate and thus for the prevention of cardiovascular diseases.

Abstract
Seasonal variation of white spot syndrome virus (WSSV) prevalence in broodstocks shrimp, nauplii and postlarvae were investigated from 2004 to 2006 in Bangladesh by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assay. There was consistent pattern of fluctuation of WSSV prevalence in broodstocks, nauplii and postlarvae. WSSV fluctuation pattern in three stages were more or less similar for each year. Average lowest prevalence in broodstock was 0% in September and highest was 90% in May-June during the monsoon season in Bangladesh. The WSSV fluctuation patterns for nauplius correlated with broodstock patterns with average lowest prevalence of 0% in September compared to the highest of 40% in July. Similarly, average lowest prevalence of WSSV in postlarvae was 0% in December and highest was 14% in July. It was evident from this study that WSSV prevalence in broodstock, nauplius and postlarvae remained high during the monsoon season and low during the winter season when the water current, salinity and tidal flashing remained more or less stable in the Bay of Bengal in Bangladesh. Abstract
Background: Musculoskeletal disorders are very common among the diabetic patients and frozen shoulder is one of the disabling conditions. The present study was conducted to compare the serum triglyceride level among the patients of type 2 diabetic presented with and without frozen shoulder.Methodology: This case control study was conducted from January 2008 to December 2009, in the department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), Dhaka with an aim to compare the serum triglyceride level among diabetic patients presented with, and without frozen shoulder. Thirty types 2 diabetic patients with frozen shoulder were selected as cases and similar number well matched type 2 diabetic patients without frozen shoulder were selected as control.Results: We prospectively studied 30 diabetes mellitus (type 2) patients with the diagnosis of frozen shoulder. The blood sugar both fasting and 2 hours after breakfast, HbA1c and serum triglyceride levels were measured in all patients and compared with those in 30 diabetic patients without frozen shoulder. The blood sugar, fasting and 2 hours after breakfast, HbA1C and serum triglyceride levels were significantly elevated in the frozen-shoulder group (fasting blood sugar p = 0.012; blood sugar 2 hours after breakfast p<0.01; HbA1C p<0.05; and triglyceride p < 0.001).Conclusion: Diabetic type 2 patients presented with frozen shoulder had higher serum triglyceride level compare to the diabetic type 2 patients without frozen shoulder. Abstract
Introduction: Meconium staining amniotic fluid is associated with lots of adverseoutcome and has long been considered to be a bad predictor of fetal outcome.Objective: This prospective observational study was undertaken to find out immediatefetal outcome in meconium stained liquor.Materials and Methods: This study was conducted in Obstetrics and Gynecologydepartment of Dhaka National Medical Collage Hospital from July to December 2008.The pregnant women with yellow, brown and thinly stained amniotic fluid in labour withgestational age 37 completed weeks were enrolled in the study. Their babies weretaken as case and followed upto 7 days after delivery in National Medical CollageHospital and in Dhaka Shishu Hospital after admission when required. Babies bornwithout meconium stained liquor were taken as a control.Results: Total 80 cases were enrolled in the study as case and 80 cases wereenrolled as control. Mean gestational age was 39.3±1.5 weeks in cases and 38.5±1.3weeks in control. There was 13.8% pregnancy induced hypertension in case groupand 3.8% in control group. Pre-eclampsia were present 10% in case group and 1.1%in control group (p<0.05). Caesarean deliveries were high (75%) in cases and it wasmuch higher with thick meconium (75%) as compared to the thin meconium (25%,p<0.001). Apgar scores in first minute and fifth minute were also low in cases. Birthasphyxia was more in cases (20%). Meconium Aspiration syndrome (25%) andConvulsion (3.8%) were developed only in cases. Admission in neonatal ward wasmore (22.5%) in cases (p<0.05) as compared to control. Neonatal mortality was high(3.8%) in cases than control (1.3%).Conclusion: Meconium stained amniotic fluid were associated with higher rate ofcaesarian delivery, increased need for neonatal resuscitation, increased rate of birthasphyxia with hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy, meconium aspiration syndrome,hospital admission and mortality.Key words: Meconium stained liquor; foetal outcome.DOI: 10.3329/bjch.v33i2.5675Bangladesh Journal of Child Health 2009; Vol.33(2): 41-45
