Abstract
As the global climate continues to change, plants will increasingly experience abiotic stress(es). Stomata on leaf surfaces are the gatekeepers to plant interiors, regulating gaseous exchanges that are crucial for both photosynthesis and outward water release. To optimise future crop productivity, accurate modelling of how stomata govern plant-environment interactions will be crucial. Here, we synergise optical and thermal imaging data to improve modelled transpiration estimates during water and/or nutrient stress (where leaf N is reduced). By utilising hyperspectral data and partial least squares regression analysis of six plant traits and fluxes in wheat (Triticum aestivum), we develop a new spectral vegetation index; the Combined Nitrogen and Drought Index (CNDI), which can be used to detect both water stress and/or nitrogen deficiency. Upon full stomatal closure during drought, CNDI shows a strong relationship with leaf water content (r2 = 0.70), with confounding changes in leaf biochemistry. By incorporating CNDI transformed with a sigmoid function into thermal-based transpiration modelling, we have increased the accuracy of modelling water fluxes during abiotic stress. These findings demonstrate the potential of using combined optical and thermal remote sensing-based modelling approaches to dynamically model water fluxes to improve both agricultural water usage and yields.

Abstract
The COVID-19 pandemic has underscored the pressing need for safe and effective booster vaccines, particularly in considering the emergence of new SARS-CoV-2 variants and addressing vaccine distribution inequalities. Dissolving microneedle array patches (MAP) offer a promising delivery method, enhancing immunogenicity and improving accessibility through the skin's immune potential. In this study, we evaluated a microneedle array patch-based S1 subunit protein COVID-19 vaccine candidate, which comprised a bivalent formulation targeting the Wuhan and Beta variant alongside a monovalent Delta variant spike proteins in a murine model. Notably, the second boost of homologous bivalent MAP-S1(WU + Beta) induced a 15.7-fold increase in IgG endpoint titer, while the third boost of heterologous MAP-S1RS09Delta yielded a more modest 1.6-fold increase. Importantly, this study demonstrated that the administration of four doses of the MAP vaccine induced robust and long-lasting immune responses, persisting for at least 80 weeks. These immune responses encompassed various IgG isotypes and remained statistically significant for one year. Furthermore, neutralizing antibodies against multiple SARS-CoV-2 variants were generated, with comparable responses observed against the Omicron variant. Overall, these findings emphasize the potential of MAP-based vaccines as a promising strategy to combat the evolving landscape of COVID-19 and to deliver a safe and effective booster vaccine worldwide.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Empty pelvis syndrome (EPS) is a significant source of morbidity following pelvic exenteration (PE), but is undefined. EPS outcome reporting and descriptors of radicality of PE are inconsistent; therefore, the best approaches for prevention are unknown. To facilitate future research into EPS, the aim of this study is to define a measurable core outcome set, core descriptor set and written definition for EPS. Consensus on strategies to mitigate EPS was also explored. METHOD Three-stage consensus methodology was used: longlisting with systematic review, healthcare professional event, patient engagement, and Delphi-piloting; shortlisting with two rounds of modified Delphi; and a confirmatory stage using a modified nominal group technique. This included a selection of measurement instruments, and iterative generation of a written EPS definition. RESULTS One hundred and three and 119 participants took part in the modified Delphi and consensus meetings, respectively. This encompassed international patient and healthcare professional representation with multidisciplinary input. Seventy statements were longlisted, seven core outcomes (bowel obstruction, enteroperineal fistula, chronic perineal sinus, infected pelvic collection, bowel obstruction, morbidity from reconstruction, re-intervention, and quality of life), and four core descriptors (magnitude of surgery, radiotherapy-induced damage, methods of reconstruction, and changes in volume of pelvic dead space) reached consensus-where applicable, measurement of these outcomes and descriptors was defined. A written definition for EPS was agreed. CONCLUSIONS EPS is an area of unmet research and clinical need. This study provides an agreed definition and core data set for EPS to facilitate further research.

Abstract
Parasitic diseases, notably babesiosis, exert a substantial impact on the global cattle industry, posing challenges to commerce, economies, and human health. This study, conducted in Southern Punjab, Pakistan, aimed to assess the prevalence of Babesia spp. across various livestock species using microscopic and PCR methods. A total of 180 blood samples (60 from each district) were systematically collected from apparently healthy animals, with 36 samples obtained from each domestic animal species, including camel, cattle, buffalo, goat, and sheep, noting that 12 samples were collected from each district for each animal species. Overall prevalence was determined to be 32.8% (59/180), with varying rates among species: 25.0% in cattle, 41.66% in buffalo, 30.55% in goats, 33.3% in sheep, and 33.3% in camels. Microscopic examination revealed slightly varied infection rates among large and small domestic animals (22.2%), while PCR results indicated a 32.8% overall infection rate in both large and small domestic animals, with no statistical significance. District-wise analysis showed regional variations, with Muzaffargarh recording a prevalence rate of 23.33% through microscopic examination, while Lodhran and Bahawalpur recorded 21.67%. PCR results revealed higher rates (38.33%, 26.67%, and 33.33%, respectively), underlining the importance of employing PCR for accurate detection. Examining ruminant types, large ruminants exhibited a 32.4% infection rate, while small domestic animals showed 33.3%, with no significant difference (p=0.897). District-wise prevalence showcased significant variation, with Muzaffargarh demonstrating a 25% prevalence, Lodhran 22%, and Bahawalpur 22%, through microscopic examination. PCR results displayed 38.33%, 27%, and 33.3%, respectively, with no statistical significance. Detailed analysis of individual districts highlighted variations in infection rates among camels, cattle, buffalo, goats, and sheep. The binomial test indicated significant differences through microscopic analysis (P=0.011) but non-significant variations through PCR (P=0.065), emphasizing the precision of PCR. Regional variations in prevalence, notably with Punjab exhibiting the highest frequency (33.87%) and KPK the lowest (13.24%), suggest potential influences from varying veterinary practices and environmental factors. This study underscores the pivotal role of PCR alongside microscopy for accurate babesiosis diagnosis. These findings contribute to the broader understanding of babesiosis prevalence, emphasizing the necessity of advanced molecular techniques for informed control measures.

Abstract
Third-generation organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) based on metal-free thermally activated delayed fluorescent (TADF) materials have sparked tremendous interest in the last decade due to their nearly 100% exciton utilization efficiency, which can address the low-efficiency issue of the first-generation fluorescent emitters and the high-cost issue of the second-generation organometallic phosphorescent emitters. Construction of efficient and stable TADF-OLEDs requires utilizing TADF materials with a narrow singlet-triplet energy gap (ΔEST), high photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) and short TADF lifetime. A small ΔEST is necessary for an efficient reverse intersystem crossing (RISC) process, which can be achieved through the effective spatial separation of the highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) and the lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO). TADF emitters have been generally designed as intramolecular charge transfer (ICT) molecules with highly twisted donor-acceptor (D-A) molecular architectures. A wide variety of combinations of electron donors and acceptors have been explored. In this review, we shall focus on recent progress in organic TADF molecules incorporating strong electron-donor phenoxazine moiety and their application as emitting layer (EML) in OLEDs.

Abstract
Currently approved COVID-19 vaccines prevent symptomatic infection, hospitalization, and death from the disease. However, repeated homologous boosters, while considered a solution for severe forms of the disease caused by new SARS-CoV-2 variants in elderly individuals and immunocompromised patients, cannot provide complete protection against breakthrough infections. This highlights the need for alternative platforms for booster vaccines. In our previous study, we assessed the boost effect of the SARS-CoV-2 Beta S1 recombinant protein subunit vaccine (rS1Beta) in aged mice primed with an adenovirus-based vaccine expressing SARS-CoV-2-S1 (Ad5.S1) via subcutaneous injection or intranasal delivery, which induced robust humoral immune responses (1). In this follow-up study, we demonstrated that a second booster dose of a non-adjuvanted recombinant Omicron (BA.1) S1 subunit vaccine with Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) agonist RS09 (rS1RS09OM) was effective in stimulating strong S1-specific immune responses and inducing significantly high neutralizing antibodies against the Wuhan, Delta, and Omicron variants in 100-week-old mice. Importantly, the second booster dose elicits cross-reactive antibody responses, resulting in ACE2 binding inhibition against the spike protein of SARS-CoV-2 variants, including Omicron (BA.1) and its subvariants. Interestingly, the levels of IgG and neutralizing antibodies correlated with the level of ACE2 inhibition in the booster serum samples, although Omicron S1-specific IgG level showed a weaker correlation compared to Wuhan S1-specific IgG level. Furthermore, we compared the immunogenic properties of the rS1 subunit vaccine in young, middle-aged, and elderly mice, resulting in reduced immunogenicity with age, especially an impaired Th1-biased immune response in aged mice. Our findings demonstrate that the new variant of concern (VOC) rS1 subunit vaccine as a second booster has the potential to offer cross-neutralization against a broad range of variants and to improve vaccine effectiveness against newly emerging breakthrough SARS-CoV-2 variants in elderly individuals who were previously primed with the authorized vaccines.

Abstract
The design and development of new small-molecule glycation inhibitors are essential for preventing various chronic diseases, including diabetes mellitus, immunoinflammation, cardiovascular, and neurodegenerative diseases. 4-Thiazolidinone or thiazolidine-4-one is a well-known heterocyclic compound with the potential to inhibit the formation of advanced glycation end products. In the present work, we report the synthesis and characterization of four new 5-arylidene 3-cyclopropyl-2-(phenylimino)thiazolidin-4-one (1-4) compounds and their human serum albumin glycation inhibitory activity. One of the compounds 5-(2H-1,3-benzodioxol-5-ylmethylidene)-3-cyclopropyl-2-(phenylimino)-1,3-thiazolidin-4-one (3) showed potent inhibition in the synthesis of initial, intermediary, and final products of glycation reactions. Besides, conformational changes in the α-helix and β-sheet (due to hyperglycemia) were also found to be reversed upon the addition of (3). Experimental findings were complemented by computational [molecular docking, ADME/Tox, and density functional theory (DFT)] studies. The docking scores of the compounds were in order 1 > 3 > 2 > 4, indicating the importance of the polar group at the 5-arylidene moiety. The results of ADME/Tox and DFT calculations revealed the safe nature of the compounds with high drug-likeness and stability. Overall, we speculate that the results of this study could provide valuable insights into the biological activity of 4-thiazolidinones.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Despite advances in antiarrhythmia therapies, ventricular tachycardia (VT) is a leading cause of sudden cardiac death. Investigation into the characteristics and new treatments for this arrhythmia is required to improve outcomes and a reproducible model of VT would be useful in these endeavors. We therefore created a canine model of ischemia-induced VT. MATERIALS AND METHODS A pacing lead was implanted in the right ventricle in canines (n = 13) and the left anterior descending artery was occluded in two locations for 2 h and subsequently released to create an ischemia-reperfusion injury. In the 10 dogs that survived the first 48 h following the initial study, a terminal study was conducted 4-7 d later and VT was induced using premature stimulation or burst pacing through the right ventricle lead. The arrhythmia was terminated using either antitachycardia pacing or a defibrillatory shock. Multiple inductions into sustained VT were attempted. RESULTS Sustained VT was induced in eight of 10 dogs with an average cycle length of 335 ± 70 bpm. Multiple episodes of VT were induced. Episodes of VT exhibited different electrocardiogram morphologies and cycle lengths in individual animals. CONCLUSIONS This canine model provides a consistent technique for inducing multiple episodes of sustained VT. It may be useful for investigating VT mechanisms and testing novel therapeutics and treatments for patients with VT.

Antimicrobial Susceptibility Patterns of Bacterial Isolates from Blood Culture of Pediatric Patients with Suspected Sepsis at a Tertiary Care Hospital in Mymensingh, Bangladesh. Abstract
Sepsis is a serious, life-threatening condition, occurring when an infectious agent invades the body, resulting in systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS). Neonates and children are among the most vulnerable population groups of developing sepsis because of their weak immune barrier. Despite major advances in prevention, diagnosis and treatment of bacterial infections, invasive infections followed by sepsis remain one of the leading causes of childhood mortality. The aim of this study was to identify bacterial agents and antimicrobial resistance patterns of aerobic bacteria among children suspected of having sepsis. This cross-sectional descriptive type of observational study was conducted in the Department of Microbiology, Mymensingh Medical College, Bangladesh from March 2021 to February 2022. Blood samples were collected from pediatric patients, suspected of having sepsis referred from inpatient facility of department of Neonatology and Pediatrics, Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH). Blood samples were inoculated into BacT/ALERT PF Plus bottles followed by sub-culture of positive samples in blood agar, MacConkey agar and chocolate agar plates. Isolated bacteria were identified by routine biochemical tests. Antimicrobial resistance pattern of all isolated bacteria was seen by disk diffusion method. MIC of vancomycin by agar dilution method was determined for isolated S. aureus and Coagulase negative Staphylococci (CoNS). The prevalence of pediatric sepsis was 31.82% with highest isolation rate 35.55% among neonates. The isolation rate of gram-positive bacteria was 62.50% where S. aureus was the most common isolate 32.15% followed by CoNS 30.36%. Out of 21 gram-negative bacteria, Pseudomonas spp. was the most frequent isolate 7(33.33%), all of which were resistant to cefuroxime, ceftriaxone and ceftazidime along with all klebsiella and Acinetobacter isolates. Out of 18 S. aureus isolates, 94.44%, 88.89% and 66.67% were resistant to Azithromycin, Penicillin-G and Ciprofloxacin respectively. The MIC of Vancomycin by agar dilution method was observed <2μg/ml against all isolated S. aureus and CoNS. All the Gram-positive isolates were sensitive to Linezolid and Vancomycin. Early detection of bacteria followed by antimicrobial susceptibility test can help by selection of appropriate antibiotic and prevent spread of infection.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Integrated disease surveillance (IDS) offers the potential for better use of surveillance data to guide responses to public health threats. However, the extent of IDS implementation worldwide is unknown. This study sought to understand how IDS is operationalized, identify implementation challenges and barriers, and identify opportunities for development. STUDY DESIGN Synthesis of qualitative studies undertaken in seven countries. METHODS Thirty-four focus group discussions and 48 key informant interviews were undertaken in Pakistan, Mozambique, Malawi, Uganda, Sweden, Canada, and England, with data collection led by the respective national public health institutes. Data were thematically analysed using a conceptual framework that covered governance, system and structure, core functions, finance and resourcing requirements. Emerging themes were then synthesised across countries for comparisons. RESULTS None of the countries studied had fully integrated surveillance systems. Surveillance was often fragmented, and the conceptualization of integration varied. Barriers and facilitators identified included: 1) the need for clarity of purpose to guide integration activities; 2) challenges arising from unclear or shared ownership; 3) incompatibility of existing IT systems and surveillance infrastructure; 4) workforce and skills requirements; 5) legal environment to facilitate data sharing between agencies; and 6) resourcing to drive integration. In countries dependent on external funding, the focus on single diseases limited integration and created parallel systems. CONCLUSIONS A plurality of surveillance systems exists globally with varying levels of maturity. While development of an international framework and standards are urgently needed to guide integration efforts, these must be tailored to country contexts and guided by their overarching purpose.

Abstract
An essential prerequisite to safeguard pollinator species is characterisation of the multifaceted diversity of crop pollinators and identification of the drivers of pollinator community changes across biogeographical gradients. The extent to which intensive agriculture is associated with the homogenisation of biological communities at large spatial scales remains poorly understood. In this study, we investigated diversity drivers for 644 bee species/morphospecies in 177 commercial apple orchards across 33 countries and four global biogeographical biomes. Our findings reveal significant taxonomic dissimilarity among biogeographical zones. Interestingly, despite this dissimilarity, species from different zones share similar higher-level phylogenetic groups and similar ecological and behavioural traits (i.e. functional traits), likely due to habitat filtering caused by perennial monoculture systems managed intensively for crop production. Honey bee species dominated orchard communities, while other managed/manageable and wild species were collected in lower numbers. Moreover, the presence of herbaceous, uncultivated open areas and organic management practices were associated with increased wild bee diversity. Overall, our study sheds light on the importance of large-scale analyses contributing to the emerging fields of functional and phylogenetic diversity, which can be related to ecosystem function to promote biodiversity as a key asset in agroecosystems in the face of global change pressures.

Abstract
IMPORTANCE The study provides important insights into the immunogenicity and efficacy of a tetravalent protein subunit vaccine candidate against severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). The vaccine induced both humoral and cellular immune responses in nonhuman primates with controlled SIVagm infection and was able to generate Omicron variant-specific antibodies without specifically vaccinating with Omicron. These findings suggest that the tetravalent composition of the vaccine candidate could provide broad protection against multiple SARS-CoV-2 variants while minimizing the risk of immune escape and the emergence of new variants. Additionally, the use of rhesus macaques with controlled SIVsab infection may better represent vaccine immunogenicity in humans with chronic viral diseases, highlighting the importance of preclinical animal models in vaccine development. Abstract
Two new organo-europium complexes (OEuCs) [Eu(btfa)3(Bathphen)] (OEuC-1) and [Eu(tta)3(Bathphen)] (OEuC-2) where btfa and tta are the anions of 4,4,4-trifluoro-1-phenyl-1,3-butanedione and 2-thenoyltrifluoroacetone while Bathphen = Bathophenanthroline have been synthesized and characterized. Both complexes in the solid state exhibit strong red emissions with photoluminescence quantum yields (PLQYs) of 80% ± 10%. These complexes were tested as dopants in the emitting layer (EML) to fabricate red organic light emitting diodes (R-OLEDs). Through device engineering involving the amalgamation of appropriate host materials and complexes, we have achieved exceptional overall R-OLED performance for an OEuC-2 based device, with maximum current efficiency (CEmax) = 9.91 cd A-1, maximum power efficiency (PEmax) = 9.15 lm W-1, maximum external quantum efficiency (EQEmax.) = 6.24%, brightness (B) of 545 cd m-2, and (CIE)x,y = 0.620, 0.323 at J = 10 mA cm-2.

Abstract
There is a plethora of literature that suggests that a failure by a medical practitioner to obtain informed consent from a patient amounts to assault. Assault is a loaded concept in South African (SA) law, and has applicability to both criminal and civil law. When one thinks of the term 'assault', it is normally associated with a criminal activity. It is well documented that a civil case can be levelled against a medical practitioner who fails to obtain informed consent from a patient. However, the criminal law aspect has not been explored in the same level of detail. This article aims to delve deeper into this aspect by outlining the requirements for assault as defined by the SA common law, and to evaluate whether a criminal offence has actually been committed by a medical practitioner in the event that proper informed consent was not obtained.

Abstract
This study presents the case of a 23-year-old woman diagnosed with celiac disease (CD), a condition triggered by an immune response to gluten, leading to inflammation in the small intestine. The patient manifested typical gastrointestinal symptoms, including diarrhea, abdominal pain, and vomiting, complemented by extra-intestinal signs such as fatigue and skin rashes. Diagnosis was corroborated through the presence of tTG-IgA antibodies and distinct histological changes in the duodenum. A notable finding was the patient's iron deficiency anemia, directly linked to the duodenal damage caused by CD. Effective management, encompassing a strict gluten-free diet and iron supplementation, resulted in marked improvement in her condition. This case accentuates the significance of early CD detection, especially in patients exhibiting a combination of gastrointestinal and extra-intestinal symptoms. Emphasis is placed on the pivotal role of timely diagnosis, adherence to a gluten-free regimen, and sustained monitoring to ensure patient well-being and prevent complications.

Abstract
Otomycosis, a fungal infection of external ear, is challenging for both patients and otolaryngologist as it requires long term treatment and follow up. Candida spp. is second common organism causing otomycosis with Aspergillus being first. Among Candida species, C. albicans is considered as most common but in recent years there is increasing incidence of Non albicans Candida (NAC) species with greater resistance and recurrence. This descriptive type of observational study was planned to determine the species distribution and antifungal susceptibility of Candida spp. causing otomycosis. From March 2021 to February 2022, 60 patients clinically suspected of Candida associated otomycosis at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, Bangladesh were enrolled. Specimens were taken by an otorhinolaryngologist. After culture and microscopic examination, isolated Candida species were identified by phenotypic and genotypic method and antifungal susceptibility was determined at Department of Microbiology, Mymensingh Medical College. From 60 samples 18(30.0%) were positive for Candida on microscopy and culture. Of the isolates, C. albicans were 2(11.11%) and Non albicans Candida (NAC) 16(88.89%). Five different NAC species were identified of which C. parapsilosis was predominant 5(27.77%) followed by C. tropicalis 4(22.22%) and C. famata 3(16.67%). Rare species of C. ciferrii 2(11.11)%, Kodamaea ohmeri 2(11.11%) were isolated. Candida spp. showed highest resistance to Clotrimazole 8(44.0%) followed by Itraconazole 6(33.0%), Nystatin 4(22.0%) and Fluconazole 3(17.0%). C. ciferrii and Kodamaea ohmeri showed resistance to all antifungals except Nystatin. Outcomes from this study showed a different picture of species distribution, with isolation of rare and emerging drug resistant threatening species like C. ciferri and Kodamea ohmeri which necessitates more detailed survey.

Abstract
Vulvovaginal Candidiasis (VVC), a frequent and cumbersome reproductive tract infection affects women's physical and mental health. Although Candida albicans was reported as the most common agent of VVC yet, recently there are significant changes in the pattern of Candida species causing VVC with varying antifungal susceptibility pattern. Therefore this cross-sectional, descriptive type of observational study conducted to identify the spectrum of Candida species associated with VVC and assesses their antifungal susceptibility pattern from March 2021 to February 2022. High vaginal swabs from 175 patients clinically suspected of VVC were collected and cultured on Sabouraud dextrose agar with Chloramphenicol. Species were identified by phenotypic methods like- germ tube test, sub-culture in chromogenic agar media and genotypic methods like- Polymerase chain reaction (PCR), Restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP). Antifungal susceptibility was done by disk diffusion method. Out of 175 patients, 52(29.7%) were positive for Candida species. Of the isolates- C. albicans 34(65.0%), Non albicans Candida (NAC) 18(35.0%). Among NAC, C. glabrata 5(9.6%), C. tropicalis 5(9.6%), C. parapsilosis 4(7.7%) and each of C. krusei, C. kefyr, C. ciferrii, C. dubliniensis were 1(1.9%). On susceptibility testing highest resistance was to Clotrimazole 31.0% followed by Nystatin 13.0%, Itraconazole 12.0% and Fluconazole 10.0%. Resistance to azole was higher in NAC than in albicans. Of these patients, 16(31.0%) had history of recurrent VVC (RVVC) of which 12(75.0%) were by NAC, predominantly C. glabrata 5(32.0%). The results showed the increasing incidence of NAC associated vaginitis with higher resistance and recurrence that should be considered in gynecology clinics.

Abstract
The emergence of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) variants has raised concerns about reduced vaccine effectiveness and the increased risk of infection, and while repeated homologous booster shots are recommended for elderly and immunocompromised individuals, they cannot completely protect against breakthrough infections. In our previous study, we assessed the immunogenicity of an adenovirus-based vaccine expressing SARS-CoV-2 S1 (Ad5.S1) in mice, which induced robust humoral and cellular immune responses (E. Kim, F. J. Weisel, S. C. Balmert, M. S. Khan, et al., Eur J Immunol 51:1774-1784, 2021, https://doi.org/10.1002/eji.202149167). In this follow-up study, we found that the mice had high titers of anti-S1 antibodies 1 year after vaccination, and one booster dose of the nonadjuvanted rS1Beta (recombinant S1 protein of SARS-CoV-2 Beta [B.1.351]) subunit vaccine was effective at stimulating strong long-lived S1-specific immune responses and inducing significantly high neutralizing antibodies against Wuhan, Beta, and Delta strains, with 3.6- to 19.5-fold increases. Importantly, the booster dose also elicited cross-reactive antibodies, resulting in angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) binding inhibition against spikes of SARS-CoV-2, including Omicron variants, persisting for >28 weeks after booster vaccination. Interestingly, the levels of neutralizing antibodies were correlated not only with the level of S1 binding IgG but also with ACE2 inhibition. Our findings suggest that the rS1Beta subunit vaccine candidate as a booster has the potential to offer cross-neutralization against broad variants and has important implications for the vaccine control of newly emerging breakthrough SARS-CoV-2 variants in elderly individuals primed with adenovirus-based vaccines like AZD1222 and Ad26.COV2.S. IMPORTANCE Vaccines have significantly reduced the incidences of severe coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases and deaths. However, the emergence of SARS-CoV-2 variants has raised concerns about their increased transmissibility and ability to evade neutralizing antibodies, especially among elderly individuals who are at higher risks of mortality and reductions of vaccine effectiveness. To address this, a heterologous booster vaccination strategy has been considered as a solution to protect the elderly population against breakthrough infections caused by emerging variants. This study evaluated the booster effect of an S1 subunit vaccine in aged mice that had been previously primed with adenoviral vaccines, providing valuable preclinical evidence for elderly people vaccinated with the currently approved COVID-19 vaccines. This study confirms the potential for using the S1 subunit vaccine as a booster to enhance cross-neutralizing antibodies against emerging variants of concern.

Abstract
Preclinical large animal models of chronic heart failure (HF) are crucial to both understanding pathological remodeling and translating fundamental discoveries into novel therapeutics for HF. Canine models of ischemic cardiomyopathy are historically limited by either high early mortality or failure to develop chronic heart failure. Twenty-nine healthy adult dogs (30 ± 4 kg, 15/29 male) underwent thoracotomy followed by one of three types of left anterior descending (LAD) coronary artery ligation procedures: group 1 (n = 4) (simple LAD: proximal and distal LAD ligation); group 2 (n = 14) (simple LAD plus lateral wall including ligation of the distal first diagonal and proximal first obtuse marginal); and group 3 (n = 11) (total LAD devascularization or TLD: simple LAD plus ligation of proximal LAD branches to both the right and left ventricles). Dogs were followed until chronic severe HF developed defined as left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) < 40% and NH2-terminal-prohormone B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) > 900 pmol/L. Overall early survival (48-h postligation) in 29 dogs was 83% and the survival rate at postligation 5 wk was 69%. Groups 1 and 2 had 100% and 71% early survival, respectively, yet only a 50% success rate of developing chronic HF. Group 3 had excellent survival at postligation 48 h (91%) and a 100% success in the development of chronic ischemic HF. The TLD approach, which limits full LAD and collateral flow to its perfusion bed, provides excellent early survival and reliable development of chronic ischemic HF in canine hearts.NEW & NOTEWORTHY The novel total left anterior descending devascularization (TLD) approach in a canine ischemic heart failure model limits collateral flow in the ischemic zone and provides excellent early survival and repeatable development of chronic ischemic heart failure in the canine heart. This work provides a consistent large animal model for investigating heart failure mechanisms and testing novel therapeutics.

Prevalence and difference of COVID-19 symptoms, post-COVID conditions and duration of illness among the vaccinated and unvaccinated population: a cross-sectional study in Peshawar. Abstract
Studies on coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) symptoms, post-coronavirus disease (COVID) conditions, and vaccination outcomes in Pakistan are limited and inconsistent. The study investigated differences in symptoms and post-COVID conditions between vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals and the impact of vaccination on illness duration based on existing literature. Methods The study was a 3-month cross-sectional study conducted in Peshawar, Pakistan. It targeted individuals aged 16 and above who had contracted COVID-19 at least once during the recent pandemic, regardless of gender, and confirmed through reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction testing. The sample size was 250, determined using the WHO sample size calculator. Data were collected through questionnaires after obtaining verbal consent and analyzed using IBM SPSS version 26, taking into account their vaccination status along with other important variables. Results Among the 250 respondents, 143 (57.2%) were unvaccinated, while 107 (42.8%) were vaccinated at the time of contracting COVID-19. Unvaccinated subjects developed a greater variety of symptoms that lasted for longer durations (P<0.001) with symptoms like dyspnea [55 (38.5%, P=0.011)], anosmia [76 (53.1%, P=0.001)], and chest pain [24 (16.8%, P=0.029)] occurring at greater percentages. Sixty-one (42.7%) unvaccinated subjects reported post-COVID conditions as opposed to 29 (27.1%) among the vaccinated group [P=0.011; odds ratio (OR)=0.5; 95% CI=0.29-0.86]. Conclusion The study found that COVID-19 vaccination can reduce the duration and frequency of symptoms, as well as post-COVID conditions. This is the first research of its kind conducted in Peshawar, Pakistan, and may serve as a foundation for future research in this demographic.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Antitachycardia pacing (ATP) is used to terminate ventricular tachycardia (VT) by delivering rapid, low energy pacing to the right ventricle (RV). Unfortunately, ATP is not effective against all VT episodes and can result in adverse outcomes, such as VT acceleration and degeneration into ventricular fibrillation (VF). Improving ATP is therefore desirable. Our objective was to compare the efficacy and safety of ATP delivered at the His bundle to traditional ATP. METHODS Six dogs were anesthetized and pacing leads were implanted in the RV and His bundle. The left anterior descending artery was occluded for 2 h to create an ischemic injury. In a study 4-7 days later, a 128-electrode sock was placed snugly around the ventricles and VT was induced using rapid pacing. ATP was delivered from either the His bundle or RV lead, then attempted at the other location if unsuccessful. Success rates and instances of VT acceleration and degeneration into VF were calculated. RESULTS We induced 83 runs of VT and attempted ATP 128 times. RV ATP was successful in 36% of attempts; His ATP was successful in 38% of attempts. RV ATP resulted in significantly more adverse outcomes. RV and His ATP induced VT acceleration in 9% and 3% of trains, respectively, and induced degeneration into VF in 5% and 1% of trains, respectively. CONCLUSION His bundle ATP is safer, but not significantly more effective, than RV ATP.

Abstract
In our country majority of the coronary artery bypass surgery (CABG) are done off-pump and was reported having excellent clinical outcome along with cost efficiency by various investigators. Heparin is commonly used as most effective anticoagulant, and protamine sulfate is now generally used to reverse the anticoagulant action of heparin. While under dosing of protamine may result in incomplete heparin reversal and prolonged anticoagulation, protamine overdosing is associated with impaired clot formation exerted by the intrinsic anti-coagulation properties of protamine itself, moreover protamine administration is associated with mild to severe cardiovascular and pulmonary complications. Apart from traditional full neutralization of heparin now-a-days, half dose protamine was also introduced showing good outcome regarding lower activated clotting time (ACT), overall, less surgical bleeding with less transfusion. This comparative study was designed to detect differences between traditional and decreased protamine dosing in Off-Pump Coronary Artery Bypass (OPCAB) surgery. Four hundred (400) patients who underwent Off-Pump Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery (OPCAB) surgery at our institution over a period of 12 months were analyzed and were divided into two groups. Group A- received 0.5mg of protamine per 100 unit of heparin; Group B-received 1.0mg of protamine per 100 unit of heparin. ACT, blood loss, hemoglobin and platelet count units of blood and blood product transfusion requirements, clinical outcome and hospital stay were assessed in each patient. This study showed that 0.5mg of protamine per 100 unit of heparin was always able to reverse the anticoagulant effect of heparin with no significant difference in hemodynamic parameters, amount of blood loss and requirements of blood transfusion in between the groups. A standard protamine dosing formula (protamine-heparin at ratio of 1:1) adequate for on-pump cardiac surgical procedures significantly overestimates protamine requirements for OPCAB. Patients treated with decreased protamine do not appear to have adverse outcomes in terms of post-operative bleeding.

Abstract
The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the need for safe and effective vaccines to be rapidly developed and distributed worldwide, especially considering the emergence of new SARS-CoV-2 variants. Protein subunit vaccines have emerged as a promising approach due to their proven safety record and ability to elicit robust immune responses. In this study, we evaluated the immunogenicity and efficacy of an adjuvanted tetravalent S1 subunit protein COVID-19 vaccine candidate composed of the Wuhan, B.1.1.7 variant, B.1.351 variant, and P.1 variant spike proteins in a nonhuman primate model with controlled SIVsab infection. The vaccine candidate induced both humoral and cellular immune responses, with T- and B cell responses mainly peaking post-boost immunization. The vaccine also elicited neutralizing and cross-reactive antibodies, ACE2 blocking antibodies, and T-cell responses, including spike specific CD4+ T cells. Importantly, the vaccine candidate was able to generate Omicron variant spike binding and ACE2 blocking antibodies without specifically vaccinating with Omicron, suggesting potential broad protection against emerging variants. The tetravalent composition of the vaccine candidate has significant implications for COVID-19 vaccine development and implementation, providing broad antibody responses against numerous SARS-CoV-2 variants.

Abstract
A warming climate coupled with reductions in water availability and rising salinity are increasingly affecting rice (Oryza sativa) yields. Elevated temperatures combined with vapour pressure deficit (VPD) rises are causing stomatal closure, further reducing plant productivity and cooling. It is unclear what stomatal size (SS) and stomatal density (SD) will best suit all these environmental extremes. To understand how stomatal differences contribute to rice abiotic stress resilience, we screened the stomatal characteristics of 72 traditionally bred varieties. We found significant variation in SS, SD and calculated anatomical maximal stomatal conductance (gsmax ) but did not identify any varieties with SD and gsmax as low as transgenic OsEPF1oe plants. Traditionally bred varieties with high SD and small SS (resulting in higher gsmax ) typically had lower biomasses, and these plants were more resilient to drought than low SD and large SS plants, which were physically larger. None of the varieties assessed were as resilient to drought or salinity as low SD OsEPF1oe transgenic plants. High SD and small SS rice displayed faster stomatal closure during increasing temperature and VPD, but photosynthesis and plant cooling were reduced. Compromises will be required when choosing rice SS and SD to tackle multiple future environmental stresses.

Abstract
This paper presents a novel approach for improving the efficacy of COVID-19 vaccines against emergent SARS-CoV-2 variants. We have evaluated the immunogenicity of unadjuvanted wild-type (WU S1-RS09cg) and variant-specific (Delta S1-RS09cg and OM S1-RS09cg) S1 subunit protein vaccines delivered either as a monovalent or a trivalent antigen in BALB/c mice. Our results show that a trivalent approach induced a broader humoral response with more coverage against antigenically distinct variants, especially when compared to monovalent Omicron-specific S1. This trivalent approach was also found to have increased or equivalent ACE2 binding inhibition, and increased S1 IgG endpoint titer at early timepoints, against SARS-CoV-2 spike variants when compared monovalent Wuhan, Delta, or Omicron S1. Our results demonstrate the utility of protein subunit vaccines against COVID-19 and provide insights into the impact of variant-specific COVID-19 vaccine approaches on the immune response in the current SARS-CoV-2 variant landscape. Particularly, our study provides insight into effects of further increasing valency of currently approved SARS-CoV-2 vaccines, a promising approach for improving protection to curtail emerging viral variants.

Abstract
The design and development of functional materials with real-life applications are highly demanding. Understanding and controlling inter- and intra-molecular interactions provide opportunities to design new materials. A judicious manipulation of the molecular structure significantly alters such interactions and can boost selected properties and functions of the material. There is burgeoning evidence of the beneficial effects of non-covalent interactions (NCIs), showing that manipulating NCIs may generate functional materials with a wide variety of physical properties leading to applications in catalysis, drug delivery, crystal engineering, etc. This prompted us to review the implications of NCIs on the molecular packing, optical properties, and applications of functional π-conjugated materials. To this end, this tutorial review will cover different types of interactions (electrostatic, π-interactions, metallophilic, etc.) and their impact on π-conjugated materials. Attempts have also been made to delineate the effects of weak interactions on opto-electronic (O-E) applications.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Initiation and up-titration of guideline-directed medical therapies (GDMTs) for heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) remains suboptimal, in part because of concerns regarding tolerability and adverse events (AEs). OBJECTIVES The authors sought to compare rates of AE in patients randomized to GDMT medication vs placebo in a meta-analysis of landmark cardiovascular outcomes trials. METHODS The authors assessed rates of reported AE in 17 landmark HFrEF clinical trials across each class of GDMT in the placebo and intervention arms. The overall rates of AE for each drug class, the absolute difference in frequency in AEs between the placebo and intervention arms, and the odds of each AE according based on randomization strata were calculated. RESULTS AE were reported commonly in trials across each class of GDMT, with 75% to 85% of participants reporting at least 1 AE. There was no significant difference in the frequency of AE between the intervention and placebo arms, except for angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors (87.0% [95% CI: 85.0%-88.8%] vs 82.0% [95% CI: 79.8%-84.0%], absolute difference: +5% with intervention; P < 0.001). There was no significant difference in drug discontinuation because of AE between placebo and intervention arms in angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors, mineralocorticoid receptor antagonists, sodium glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitors, or angiotensin receptor neprilysin inhibitor/angiotensin II receptor blocker trials. Patients randomized to beta-blocker were significantly less likely to stop study drug because of AE than placebo (11.3% [95% CI: 10.3%-12.3%] vs 13.7% [95% CI: 12.5%-14.9%], absolute difference: -1.1%; P = 0.015). When individual types of AE were assessed, the initiation of an intervention vs placebo resulted in small differences in absolute frequency of AE that were largely not statistically significant. CONCLUSIONS In clinical trials of GDMT for HFrEF, AEs are observed frequently. However, rates of AE are similar between active medication and control, suggesting these may reflect the high risk nature of the heart failure disease state rather than be attributive to a specific therapy.

Abstract
Objective In chronic heart failure (HF) patients supported with continuous-flow left ventricular assist device (CF-LVAD), we aimed to assess the clinical association of pre-LVAD QRS duration (QRSd) with post-LVAD cardiac recovery, and its correlation with pre- to post-LVAD change in left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) and left ventricular end-diastolic diameter (LVEDD). Methods Chronic HF patients (n = 402) undergoing CF-LVAD implantation were prospectively enrolled, at one of the centers comprising the U.T.A.H. (Utah Transplant Affiliated Hospitals) consortium. After excluding patients with acute HF etiologies, hypertrophic or infiltrative cardiomyopathy, and/or inadequate post-LVAD follow up (<3 months), 315 patients were included in the study. Cardiac recovery was defined as LVEF ≥ 40 % and LVEDD < 6 cm within 12 months post-LVAD implantation. Patients fulfilling this condition were termed as responders (R) and results were compared with non-responders (NR). Results Thirty-five patients (11 %) achieved 'R' criteria, and exhibited a 15 % shorter QRSd compared to 'NR' (123 ± 37 ms vs 145 ± 36 ms; p < 0.001). A univariate analysis identified association of baseline QRSd with post-LVAD cardiac recovery (OR: 0.986, 95 % CI: 0.976-0.996, p < 0.001). In a multivariate logistic regression model, after adjusting for duration of HF (OR: 0.990, 95 % CI: 0.983-0.997, p = 0.006) and gender (OR: 0.388, 95 % CI: 0.160-0.943, p = 0.037), pre-LVAD QRSd exhibited a significant association with post-LVAD cardiac structural and functional improvement (OR: 0.987, 95 % CI: 0.977-0.998, p = 0.027) and the predictive model showed a c-statistic of 0.73 with p < 0.001. The correlations for baseline QRSd with pre- to post-LVAD change in LVEF and LVEDD were also investigated in 'R' and 'NR' groups. Conclusion Chronic advanced HF patients with a shorter baseline QRSd exhibit an increased potential for cardiac recovery after LVAD support.

Abstract
Cases of baby swapping in South Africa (SA) are very rare. In 1996 the first of these cases, Clinton-Parker v Administrator, Transvaal; Dawkins v Administrator, Transvaal, appeared before our courts. The parties in that instance decided to keep the babies who had been erroneously given to them, but the plaintiffs were awarded compensation for the emotional shock and injury they endured as the result of the defendant's negligence. In recent times we had the case of Child Law v NN and NS (GP), where the parties also decided to keep the children who had been erroneously given to them by the hospital staff. These scenarios, while difficult, have had amicable conclusions, with the parents electing not to pursue custody of their natural children. The situation would be more complex if either of the parties were to decide that they want their natural child back. A number of questions are pertinent here, and will guide the discussion in this article. Is it as simple as both of the 'psychological' parents returning the babies to their natural parents? Do the parents have a claim against the hospital staff? Unfortunately there is not a wealth of legal precedent to assist the SA courts in this regard. The article explores the jurisprudence that speaks to baby swapping, in an attempt to provide clarity and assistance in resolving these difficult cases.

Abstract
Corneal epithelial thickness (CET) and the regional variations in response to changes in corneal architecture and biomechanics have recently drawn the interest of corneal surgeons. Corneal epithelium possesses the tremendous capability of remodeling and changing its thickness. This remodeling of corneal epithelium takes place in response to underlying stromal irregularities which can result from a variety of corneal disorders including corneal ectasia. Measurement of CET can reveal the underlying stromal abnormalities and supplement in early diagnosis of corneal disorders especially corneal ectasia which has been one of the leading challenges in planning corneal refractive surgery. A significant number of patients ends up in ectasia after refractive surgery and the most common cause of this complication is the presence of preoperative subclinical keratoconus. Furthermore, postoperative complications of corneal refractive surgery are partly masked by epithelial remodeling and make the diagnosis and management difficult and extremely challenging. This leads not only to unpredictable visual and refractive outcome but also the need of multiple interventions to treat these complications. Although corneal tomography is considered as gold standard in the detection and diagnosis of corneal ectasia, a small number of subclinical cases may still go undetected. In this review, we have highlighted the underlying mechanism of epithelial remodeling, the devices and imaging modalities used to measure CET, and application of epithelial mapping in the diagnosis and management of various corneal disorders.

Abstract
Trialkyl and triaryl phosphines are important classes of ligands in the field of catalysis and materials research. The wide usability of these low-valent phosphines has led to the design and development of new synthesis routes for a variety of phosphines. In the present work, we report the synthesis and characterization of some mixed arylalkyl tertiary phosphines via the Grignard approach. A new asymmetric phosphine is characterized extensively by multi-spectroscopic techniques. IR and UV–Vis spectra of some selected compounds are also compared and discussed. Density functional theory (DFT)-calculated results support the formation of the new compounds.

Abstract
Additional COVID-19 vaccines that are safe and immunogenic are needed for global vaccine equity. Here, we developed a recombinant type 5 adenovirus vector encoding for the SARS-CoV-2 S1 subunit antigen and nucleocapsid as a fusion protein (Ad5.SARS-CoV-2-S1N). A single subcutaneous immunization with Ad5.SARS-CoV-2-S1N induced a similar humoral response, along with a significantly higher S1-specific cellular response, as a recombinant type 5 adenovirus vector encoding for S1 alone (Ad5.SARS-CoV-2-S1). Immunogenicity was improved by homologous prime-boost vaccination, and further improved through intramuscular heterologous prime-boost vaccination using subunit recombinant S1 protein. Priming with low dose (1 × 1010 v.p.) of Ad5.SARS-CoV-2-S1N and boosting with either wild-type recombinant rS1 or B.1.351 recombinant rS1 induced a robust neutralizing response, which was sustained against Beta and Gamma SARS-CoV-2 variants. This novel Ad5-vectored SARS-CoV-2 vaccine candidate showed promising immunogenicity in mice and supports the further development of COVID-19-based vaccines incorporating the nucleoprotein as a target antigen.

Abstract
Objectives The aim of this study is to gain experienced nursing perspective on current and future complication reporting and grading in Urology, establish the CAMUS CCI and quality control the use of the Clavien‐Dindo Classification (CDC) in nursing staff. Subjects and Methods The 12‐part REDCap‐based Delphi survey was developed in conjunction with expert nurse, urologist and methodologist input. Certified local and international inpatient and outpatient nurses specialised in urology, perioperative nurses and urology‐specific advanced practice nurses/nurse practitioners will be included. A minimum sample size of 250 participants is targeted. The survey assesses participant demographics, nursing experience and opinion on complication reporting and the proposed CAMUS reporting recommendations; grading of intervention events using the existing CDC and the proposed CAMUS Classification; and rating various clinical scenarios. Consensus will be defined as ≥75% agreement. If consensus is not reached, subsequent Delphi rounds will be performed under Steering Committee guidance. Results Twenty participants completed the pilot survey. Median survey completion time was 58 min (IQR 40–67). The survey revealed that 85% of nursing participants believe nurses should be involved in future complication reporting and grading but currently have poor confidence and inadequate relevant background education. Overall, 100% of participants recognise the universal demand for reporting consensus and 75% hold a preference towards the CAMUS System. Limitations include variability in nursing experience, complexity of supplemental grades and survey duration. Conclusion The integration of experienced nursing opinion and participation in complication reporting and grading systems in a modern and evolving hospital infrastructure may facilitate the assimilation of otherwise overlooked safety data. Incorporation of focused teaching into routine nursing education will be essential to ensure quality control and stimulate awareness of complication‐related burden. This, in turn, has the potential to improve patient counselling and quality of care.

Abstract
PURPOSE The potential of pacing and capturing the His-Purkinje system (HPS) to synchronize VF wavefronts is not known even though the HPS is thought to be electrically linked during VF. In this study the effect of selective His Bundle (HB) pacing was compared with nearby working myocardial (WM) pacing on the left ventricular (LV) endocardial activation rates. METHODS Rabbit hearts (n = 9) were explanted and Langendorff perfused. Electrodes directly on the HB were identified and paced subsequently using an electrode array. The WM was paced through a silver wire inserted in the right ventricular septal wall. After VF was induced, the HB was paced at rates faster than the intrinsic HB activation rate (n = 18 episodes) and also at rates faster than the LV activation rate (n = 16). A basket array inserted in the LV was used to record electrograms before and during each pacing episode. Activation rates at five LV electrodes each from the earliest and latest activating sinus rhythm regions were analyzed before and during pacing. RESULTS Both HB and WM pacing reduced LV activation rates during pacing, but WM pacing was more effective (p < 0.005). WM pacing events were more effective (p < 0.05) in reducing LV activation rates than HB pacing in episodes which were faster than LV activation rates. CONCLUSION This study provides evidence that during early VF in rabbit hearts, the HPS cannot be driven to effectively modulate the LV activation rates.

Abstract
The maize crop is used as food for humans, livestock and poultries forms, it is also used in bread making, corn flakes, corn syrup, corn starch and corn oils. The field study consisted of one experimental trial, about the incidence of that insect pest complex on maize cultivar Azam during the Kharif season 2020 at the Agricultural, Research Station, Baffa, Mansehra. The trial was laid out in the Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD), and then it was divided into three replications. The result obtained from the trial showed that a number of the pest species were recorded during the experimental period; however, the population was noticed at a low level. The obtained insect species were corn leaf aphid (6.90 ± 5.5) per square inch, corn leafhopper (1.32 ± 0.63), maize stem borer (0.63 ± 0.29), corn flea beetle (0.43 ± 0.28), Thrips (0.38 ± 0.22), Hairy caterpillar (0.21 ± 0.22), Grasshopper (0.17 ± 0.11) and shoot fly (0.11 ± 0.08) throughout the season.

Abstract
Background:
Coronary artery aneurysm (CAA) incidence is thought to be as common as 0.3 to 5 % of the angiographically examined patients. Regardless of underlying pathogenic mechanism, it results in adverse long-term outcomes. The management of the CAA can be challenging because of lack of clearly defined guidelines.
Case Presentation:
A 75-year-old male without known history of tobacco abuse, DM, hypertension, OSA, CAD, PCI or connective tissue disorder presented with a chief complaint of 2 months of intermittent angina. He had an unremarkable serum troponin level and an EKG. Echocardiogram revealed moderate mitral regurgitation without any regional wall motion abnormality [1]. Because of equivocal exercise stress EKG test, he underwent a coronary angiogram which showed a proximal LAD stenosis followed by a localized fusiform aneurysm [2]. Given his significant symptoms, large size of the aneurysm, ostial LAD stenosis and proximity of diagonal arterial branch the patient underwent CABG surgery involving LIMA to LAD.
Discussion:
CAA patients may present with stable angina, ACS or it may just be an incidental finding on a coronary angiogram. The pathogenesis of CAA is not well known. However, some of the risk factors can be genetic predisposition, underlying atherosclerotic coronary artery disease, autoimmune and connective tissue disorders, trauma such as following PCI, and infections. Coronary CT can be of great utility in evaluating giant CAA as it can help to delineate mechanical complications of these aneurysms. In our patient it was unusual to see localized CAD and an aneurysm limited to one coronary artery territory when atherosclerotic CAAs usually affect more than one artery.
Conclusion:
Since pathophysiology of CAA is not well understood and there are no obvious society guidelines regarding their management, therefore, it becomes important to tailor treatment based on the location and size of the CAA, underlying risk factors and the clinical presentation.

Abstract
Global warming is occurring at an alarming rate, with climate change creating severe water-related hazards that are at the top of the natural disasters list. The highest human losses have been recorded in the past 50 years based on world meteorological organization calculations. Thus, everyone needs to play their part in environmental sustainability (ES). This will require a change in behavior; therefore, the current study considered pro-environmental behavior (PEB) crucial to ES among university employees. The moderating effect of green organizational culture (GOC) on the relationship between PEB and ES was also investigated. As it is typical of a Thai public university to expend a considerable amount of natural resources in the process of conducting its routine academic and operational activities, it is a setting worthy of investigation. The higher education sector is rarely explored in the areas of resource use and conservation; for this reason, this study was specifically targeted at the human factor in this specialized setting. A survey was performed on the faculty members of Thai public universities to verify the model. It was found that PEB influenced ES, and GOC moderated the relationship between PEB and ES. The results encompassed six dimensions of PEB and the moderating effect of GOC in the context of higher educational institutions. The findings have provided new insights into PEB intervention and modification in the context of higher education institutions whose management may use the results to strengthen employees' PEB by offering information, knowledge, and training.

Abstract
Termites are known as social insects worldwide. Presently in China 473 species, 44 genera and 4 families of termites have been reported. Of them, 111 Reticulitermes species are widely spread in different zones of China. The dispersion flight season of these Chinese Reticulitermes species are usually started from February to June, but in some regions different species are distributed, sharing their boundaries and having overlapping flight seasons. These reasons become important sources of hybridization between two different heterospecific populations of termites. It was confirmed that the fertilized eggs and unfertilized eggs of some Reticulitermes termites have the capacity of cleavage. While the unfertilized eggs of R. aculabialis, R. chinensis and R. labralis cleaved normally and the only R. aculabialis unfertilized eggs develop in embryos. While, the R. flaviceps and R. chinensis were observed with their abnormal embryonic development, and not hatching of eggs parthenogenetically. They were reported more threatening to Chinese resources as they propagate with parthenogenesis, hybridization and sexual reproduction. Eggshell and macrophiles of eggs play important roles in species identification and control. Although, they are severe pests and cause a wide range of damages to wooden structures and products in homes, buildings, building materials, trees, crops, and forests in China's Mainland.

Abstract
Objectives. Spinal cord injury (SCI) is defined as damage to spinal cord that result in loss of sensory, motor and autonomic function. With advancement in medical profession, it is reported that the death rate of SCI patients decreases, and patients survive after initial injury therefore, problem extends beyond patients to their family members. Caregiver is responsible to provide emotional, physical and functional support. As a result, burden on caregivers increases, which not only affected them physically but mentally as well. In this study we aimed to find out the mental burden among caregivers of spinal cord injured patients. Methods. Census was conducted among caregivers of SCI patients in paraplegic centre, Peshawar. Data was collected from 80 participants/caregivers, included both male and female. Zarit burden interview scale was used to gather data regarding mental burden from caregivers of SCI patients. SPSS version 25 was used for data analysis. Outcomes. In this study the number of participants who responded to this survey was 80 out of 86 participants. Among these 80 participants, 59 (73.75%) were male while 21 (26.25%) were female with mean age of 31.83 ± 12.050. Participants experienced different intensities of mental burden (11.3% no or little burden, 31.3% mild to moderate, 45% moderate to severe and 12.5% had severe burden. Response to question 3, 4, 20 and 21 was quite different from other questions in questionnaire. Significant difference between means of male and female caregivers regarding mental burden was calculated (p = 0.030). No significant difference between age and total score obtained was found (p = 0.116). Conclusions. Caregivers of SCI patients had moderate to severe level of burden. Response to certain questions in questionnaire was quite different from others. There was significant difference between means of male and female caregivers regarding mental burden and no significant difference between age and total score obtained was found in caregivers of SCI patients.

Abstract
Background Evaluating premature (<65 years of age) mortality because of acute myocardial infarction (AMI) by demographic and regional characteristics may inform public health interventions. Methods and Results We used the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s WONDER (Wide‐Ranging Online Data for Epidemiologic Research) death certificate database to examine premature (<65 years of age) age‐adjusted AMI mortality rates per 100 000 and average annual percentage change from 1999 to 2019. Overall, the age‐adjusted AMI mortality rate was 13.4 (95% CI, 13.3–13.5). Middle‐aged adults, men, non‐Hispanic Black adults, and rural counties had higher mortality than young adults, women, NH White adults, and urban counties, respectively. Between 1999 and 2019, the age‐adjusted AMI mortality rate decreased at an average annual percentage change of −3.4 per year (95% CI, −3.6 to −3.3), with the average annual percentage change showing higher decline in age‐adjusted AMI mortality rates among large (−4.2 per year [95% CI, −4.4 to −4.0]), and medium/small metros (−3.3 per year [95% CI, −3.5 to −3.1]) than rural counties (−2.4 per year [95% CI, −2.8 to −1.9]). Age‐adjusted AMI mortality rates >90th percentile were distributed in the Southern states, and those with mortality <10th percentile were clustered in the Western and Northeastern states. After an initial decline between 1999 and 2011 (−4.3 per year [95% CI, −4.6 to −4.1]), the average annual percentage change showed deceleration in mortality since 2011 (−2.1 per year [95% CI, −2.4 to −1.8]). These trends were consistent across both sexes, all ethnicities and races, and urban/rural counties. Conclusions During the past 20 years, decline in premature AMI mortality has slowed down in the United States since 2011, with considerable heterogeneity across demographic groups, states, and urbanicity. Systemic efforts are mandated to address cardiovascular health disparities and outcomes among nonelderly adults.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Peritoneal tuberculosis is difficult to diagnose as it may mimic peritoneal carcinomatosis, which has similar symptomatology. We sought to determine the diagnostic accuracy of computed tomography in differentiating peritoneal tuberculosis versus peritoneal carcinomatosis. MATERIALS AND METHODS The associations of radiological findings in 124 patients with peritoneal carcinomatosis (n = 55) or tuberculosis (n = 69) were determined using Chi-square test. Sensitivity, specificity, positive and negative predictive value, and total diagnostic accuracy of CT imaging, with histopathology as gold standard, was determined. Subgroup analyses to determine these parameters by age (>40 years and ≤40 years) and gender (male and female) were performed. RESULTS Mean age of study population was 44.1 ± 13.2 years with 61 males (49.2%) and 63 females (50.8%). The most common radiological abnormality in both peritoneal carcinomatosis (90.9%) and peritoneal tuberculosis (89.9%) was omental smudging, followed by presence of extraperitoneal mass (81.8%) in carcinomatosis and presence of micro-nodules in tuberculosis (88.4%). The findings significantly different in both the carcinomatosis and tuberculosis groups were high-density ascites, splenic calcification, splenomegaly, lymph node calcifications, micro-nodules, and macro-nodules. The diagnostic accuracy of CT in differentiating peritoneal tuberculosis from peritoneal carcinomatosis was 83.8%; sensitivity and specificity for peritoneal tuberculosis were 88.4% and 78.2%, respectively. CONCLUSION The diagnostic accuracy of CT in differentiating peritoneal tuberculosis from peritoneal carcinomatosis revealed an overall diagnostic accuracy of 83.8%. Subgroup analysis revealed that CT may be a more specific diagnostic tool to predict peritoneal tuberculosis in female patients and in those over 40 years old.

Abstract
Background Women remain relatively underrepresented in all subspecialties of academic medicine. While sex disparity is prevalent in a number of specialties, the association between academic productivity and sex in academic cardiology has not been assessed in the Canadian context. Methods Academic faculty of accredited Canadian Resident Matching Service (CaRMS) programs were included from cardiology division websites across 17 universities. Cardiology faculty members’ names, academic ranks, leadership positions, and sex were obtained from each institutions’ website. The Elsevier database Scopus© was used to extract the Hirsch index (H-index), years of active research, and number of publications of each faculty member. The H-index was used as a metric of academic output and research productivity. Univariate regression was run with the H-Index as the outcome of interest, and multiple linear regression analysis was used to determine factors associated with higher H-index. Results Sex was identified for 1,040 members, of whom 836 (80%) were male. Male members had higher numbers of publications (p <0.001). There was a trend for males in a leadership position to have a higher H-index (p = 0.07). Median H-index was lower for women (p = 0.02). Males across assistant and associate professor ranks had a higher H-index. Women achieving professor rank demonstrated greater productivity with a higher median H-index (p = 0.002). Conclusions There is a prevalent sex gap in academic cardiology with regard to scholarly productivity and academic achievement. Factors that may help narrow the sex gap need to be identified and corrective measures implemented to enhance sex equity.

Abstract
The present study describes the haematological profile, feeding preference, and comparison of morphometric characters of blue rock pigeon (Columba livia) breeding pairs. For this purpose, 25 pairs (25 samples per sex) were sampled through Mist nets from district Okara and Bahawalnagar, Punjab, Pakistan. Birds were then anaesthetized with a combination of ketamine HCL (10 mg/kg) and diazepam (0.2 mg/kg) and subjected to morphometric measurements. 5µL blood also was taken from the jugular vein of each anaesthetized bird for haematological analysis. Few pairs were also dissected to remove gastrointestinal tracts (GITs) for food preferences. Results revealed that there are no significant differences in the haematological parameters and feeding preference of breeding pairs of Columba livia. The gut analysis further revealed, the major portion of gut contents consisted of pea and corn in most of the pairs. Regarding the mensural measurements, significant differences were recorded in the body weight, length of the longest primary feather, and chest circumference, whereas the rest of the studied parameters remain nonsignificant between sexes. So, it is concluded that apart from 3 morphometric parameters (body weight, length of longest primary feather and chest circumference), both sexes are alike in term of morphometry, haematology and food preference.

Introduction
The management of recurrent non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC) typically requires repeated transurethral resections under general anaesthesia. This is costly and results in poor health-related quality-of-life for patients. Outpatient-based laser ablation and diathermy to recurrent tumours could reduce morbidity and cost of managing NMIBC. This systematic review evaluates the safety and efficacy of outpatient-based diathermy or laser ablation for recurrent NMIBC.
Method
The EMBASE, MEDLINE and Cochrane Library were searched until June 2020. All studies evaluating the use of outpatient diathermy or laser ablation for NMIBC were included. The quality of evidence and risk of bias were assessed using the GRADE and ROBINS-I tools, respectively.
Results
From 1328 studies identified, 17 studies (1584 patients) were included. Overall, the majority of tumours (80%) were low-grade (G1 and G2). Laser ablation and diathermy resulted in a mean recurrence rate of 47% and 40% at 20-31 months follow-up, respectively, with a mean progression rate of 3-11%. Both procedures were well-tolerated with low pain scores (mean score of 1) and low periprocedural complication rates. However, the overall quality of evidence of low.
Conclusions
This review demonstrates that both procedures have good short-term efficacy in patients with low-grade NMIBC. The procedures are well-tolerated with low complication rates and importantly, reduce the need for intervention under general anaesthesia. These findings can aid patient counselling regarding less invasive treatment options, avoiding the morbidity of transurethral resection. Future randomised studies with standardised risk stratification and outcome measures are required to add to the quality of evidence.

Aim
Non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC) is the most prevalent form of bladder cancer, predominantly affecting the elderly population. The most common treatment for recurrent NMIBC is transurethral resection of the bladder tumour (TURBT), which carries a risk of perioperative morbidity and mortality in this often-co-morbid population. Outpatient laser ablation of low-grade NMIBC recurrences is a minimally invasive treatment option, but long-term efficacy is poorly reported.
Method
We retrospectively reviewed the case notes of all patients treated with Holmium:YAG laser ablation from 2008-2016. Data regarding patient demographics, original histology, dates of procedures, follow-up time, recurrence, progression, and complications were recorded.
Results
A total of 199 procedures were performed on 97 patients (mean age of 83.56), 73 (75.3%) of which originally had low-grade (G1 or G2) tumours. Overall, 55 (56.7%) patients developed tumour recurrence at long-term follow-up (mean 5.36 years), and only 9 (9.3%) patients had tumour progression to a higher stage or grade, but there was no progression to muscle-invasive disease. The median recurrence-free, progression-free and overall survival times were 1.69 years (95% CI 1.20-2.25), 5.70 years (95% CI 4.10-7.60) and 7.60 years (95% CI 4.90-8.70), respectively. No patients required emergency inpatient admission after laser ablation for any associated complications.
Conclusions
Office-based Holmium: YAG laser ablation is an oncologically-safe method of managing recurrent low-grade non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer in the long-term, with no patients progressing to muscle-invasive disease. Furthermore, the procedure is safe, and no significant complications were seen in this elderly and co-morbid population.
