Abstract
BACKGROUND With improving living standards, the incidence of cervical spondylotic myelopathy (CSM) has become increasingly high. OBJECTIVE The study aims to explore the effect of diversified health-promoting models on rehabilitation exercises in patients with CSM after an operation. METHOD This was a randomized controlled trial, wherein 107 patients with CSM treated by neurosurgery were selected as the subjects. Of those, 52 patients in the control group adopted the conventional health-promoting model, while the remaining 55 patients in the intervention group adopted diversified health-promoting models. The effect of rehabilitation exercises in the two groups was evaluated according to the self-efficacy rehabilitation outcome scale, grip strength measurement of the affected limb, and Barthel index. RESULTS At Day 3 post-operation and before discharge, the self-efficacy management of rehabilitation exercises in the intervention group was better than that of the control group (P< 0.05). The grip strength measurement of the affected limb, Japanese Orthopedic Association score of the cervical vertebra, and Barthel index of the two groups at Day 3 post-operation were lower than before the intervention and were not statistically significant (P> 0.05). However, these three items before discharge were improved when compared with those of before intervention and were statistically significant (P< 0.05). CONCLUSION Postoperative rehabilitation exercises guided by the diversified health-promoting models for patients with CSM can improve the patients' self-efficacy management ability in rehabilitation exercises, help improve grip strength, and promote the recovery of cervical vertebra function, thereby improving the patients' quality of life.

Abstract
Objectives To evaluate the long‐term biosafety and efficacy of transplantation of human embryonic stem cells‐derived retinal pigment epithelial (hESC‐RPE) cells in early‐stage of Stargardt macular degeneration (STGD1). Materials and methods Seven patients participated in this prospective clinical study, where they underwent a single subretinal transplantation of 1 × 105 hESC‐RPE cells in one eye, whereas the fellow eye served as control. These patients were reassessed for a 60‐month follow‐up through systemic and ophthalmic examinations. Results None of the patients experienced adverse reactions systemically or locally, except for two who had transiently high intraocular pressure post‐operation. Functional assessments demonstrated that all of the seven operated eyes had transiently increased or stable visual function 1‐4 months after transplantation. At the last follow‐up visit, two of the seven eyes showed visual function loss than the baseline; however, one of them showed a stable visual acuity when compared with the change of fellow eye. Obvious small high reflective foci in the RPE layer were displayed after the transplantation, and maintained until the last visit. Interestingly, three categories of patients who were classified based on autofluorescence, exhibited distinctive patterns of morphological and functional change. Conclusions Subretinal transplantation of hESC‐RPE in early‐stage STGD1 is safe and tolerated in the long term. Further investigation is needed for choosing proper subjects according to the multi‐model image and function assessments.

Abstract
Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle is centered on Chengdu City and Chongqing Municipality, with aims to build the "fourth growth pole" of China's economy. During this circle, elimination of schistosomiasis had been achieved in 82.5% of the endemic counties (districts) of Sichuan Province, and schistosomiasis is not historically endemic in Chongqing Municipality; however, there is still a risk of schistosmiasis transmission in Sichuan Province and Chongqing Municipality because the natural and social factors affecting schistosomiasis transmission have not been completely eliminated in these areas. Based on the endemic situation of schistosomiasis in Sichuan Province and Chongqing Municipality, we analyzed the opportunities and challenges of schistosomiasis control during the construction of Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle, and proposed the corresponding suggestions, so as to provide insights into the sustainable development of schistosomiasis control in the context of the Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle construction.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Accurate and robust pathological image analysis for colorectal cancer (CRC) diagnosis is time-consuming and knowledge-intensive, but is essential for CRC patients' treatment. The current heavy workload of pathologists in clinics/hospitals may easily lead to unconscious misdiagnosis of CRC based on daily image analyses. METHODS Based on a state-of-the-art transfer-learned deep convolutional neural network in artificial intelligence (AI), we proposed a novel patch aggregation strategy for clinic CRC diagnosis using weakly labeled pathological whole-slide image (WSI) patches. This approach was trained and validated using an unprecedented and enormously large number of 170,099 patches, > 14,680 WSIs, from > 9631 subjects that covered diverse and representative clinical cases from multi-independent-sources across China, the USA, and Germany. RESULTS Our innovative AI tool consistently and nearly perfectly agreed with (average Kappa statistic 0.896) and even often better than most of the experienced expert pathologists when tested in diagnosing CRC WSIs from multicenters. The average area under the receiver operating characteristics curve (AUC) of AI was greater than that of the pathologists (0.988 vs 0.970) and achieved the best performance among the application of other AI methods to CRC diagnosis. Our AI-generated heatmap highlights the image regions of cancer tissue/cells. CONCLUSIONS This first-ever generalizable AI system can handle large amounts of WSIs consistently and robustly without potential bias due to fatigue commonly experienced by clinical pathologists. It will drastically alleviate the heavy clinical burden of daily pathology diagnosis and improve the treatment for CRC patients. This tool is generalizable to other cancer diagnosis based on image recognition.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the mechanical effects during en-mass retraction of maxillary anterior teeth with clear aligner using three-dimensional finite element method. Methods: Cone-beam CT (CBCT) was used to scan a female orthodontic patient (26 years old, from Department of Orthodontics, Stomatological Hospital of Chongqing Medical University) whose maxillary first premolars were extracted and maxillary dentition had been aligned and leveled. A finite element model including maxillary teeth-periodontal ligament (PDL)-alveolar bone-clear aligner was established by using Mimics 17.0, SolidWorks 2016 and Geomagic Studio 2015 software packages. The process of 0.2 mm en-mass retraction of anterior teeth using clear aligner was simulated by using non-linear contact method of Abaqus 6.14. The trend and displacement of maxillary teeth, the stress distribution of PDL and alveolar fossae, and the deformation trend of clear aligner were obtained and analyzed. Results: Under the experimental condition, lingual crown tipping and distal tipping movement of anterior teeth were observed, and all of them had the tendency of overbite increasing.The maximum displacement of the central incisor, lateral incisor and canine were 25.16, 50.34 and 24.98 μm, respectively. Meanwhile, the second premolar, first molar and second molar had the tendency of mesial tipping movement, and the maximum displacement of them were 33.04, 2.90 and 16.63 μm, respectively. The stress distribution both at the PDL and alveolar fossae were consistent with tooth movement pattern. It was noted that the stress in the PDL of the canine and second premolar were comparatively big, and the corresponding apical areas of alveolar fossae appeared stress concentration. Concurrently, it was found that the clear aligner showed stress concentration at the junction of adjacent teeth with a tendency of crown directional dislocation. Conclusions: During en-mass retraction of anterior teeth with clear aligner, attention should be paid to the overbite and torque in anterior teeth, and the anchorage protection of posterior teeth. At the same time, we should be careful of root resorption of the teeth on both sides of the extraction space.

Abstract
Based on a content analysis of 533 Chinese listed companies, this study examines how corporate environmental performance affects not only the level of detail of a company's environmental disclosures, but also what information is disclosed. The results show that (1) both poor and good performers have more disclosure than the median (i.e., "mixed") performers, which provides empirical evidence to support a nonlinear relationship between corporate environmental performance and environmental disclosure; (2) poor performers disclose more soft information on environmental performance than good performers, and good performers disclose more solid information; and (3) although poor performers increase disclosure after being exposed as environmental violators, they avoid disclosing negative environmental information, such as the violation and the associated penalties. This study provides additional evidence for a nonlinear relationship between environmental performance and disclosure in emerging markets, and suggests environmental disclosure may not be a valid signal to differentiate good performers from poor performers in contemporary China.

Abstract
The debate on the relationship between corporate or industrial environmental performance (EP) and financial performance (FP) has yet to be resolved, and studies need to examine the possible moderating effects on the EP-FP link. We argue that industrial EP has a positive effect on FP and that industrial munificence and resource slack can moderate the EP-FP link. Using a dataset from Chinese industrial firms, we examine the direct effect of industrial EP on FP and the indirect effects of industrial munificence and resource slack on the EP-FP link. Our results show that improving corporate or industrial-level EP significantly influences FP and that slack resources play a significant role on the EP-FP link. However, we found no significant moderating effect of industrial munificence on the link.

Abstract
UNLABELLED To reveal the mechanism of inflammation-accompanied osteoporosis, mouse CD11b cells and CD4+CD25+ T cells were cocultured. Our results showed that CD11b+ monocytes cocultured with CD4+CD25+ T cells generated significantly less osteoclasts than those cocultured with CD4+CD25- T cells. The levels of MMP-7 and 9 in coculture supernatant were decreased significantly when CD11b+ monocytes and CD4+CD25+ T cells were cocultured comparing to the CD4+CD25- T cell group. These results highlight the role of CD4+CD25+ T cells on rheumatic osteoporosis. INTRODUCTION The purpose of this study was to reveal the mechanism of inflammation-accompanied osteoporosis by examining the effect of CD4+CD25+ T cells on osteoclast formation, as well as the production of matrix metalloproteinases (MMP)-2, 3, 7, and 9 from osteoclasts. METHODS Mouse CD11b cells and CD4+CD25+ T cells were isolated using the microbead-based kits. Activated CD11b cells and CD4+CD25+ T were cocultured. CD4+CD25- T cells were used as controls. Osteoclasts were evaluated by counting the average of tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase-positive multinucleated large cells among five high-power fields (×200). After 2 days of coculture, supernatants were harvested for MMP measurement (by ELISA). RESULTS At day 7, the CD11b+ monocytes cocultured with CD4+CD25+ T cells generated significantly (both p < 0.01) less osteoclasts (3.4 ± 0.8) than those cocultured with CD4+CD25- T cells (16.2 ± 1.3) and those cultured alone (16.2 ± 2.7). The supernatant levels of MMP-7 and 9 were decreased significantly (p < 0.01) when CD11b+ monocytes and CD4+CD25+ T cells were cocultured compared to the other two conditions. CONCLUSIONS The decreased CD4+CD25+ T cells may cause an overproduction of MMP-7 and 9 from osteoclasts, which highlight the role of CD4+CD25+ T cells on rheumatic osteoporosis.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To evaluate the impact of different screening intervals on screening for nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). METHODS A Markov model was constructed, based on the natural history of NPC. The 5-year mortality rate of NPC was the major measurement to evaluate the efficacies of 16 screening strategies. Parameters for the model were derived from published literature. RESULTS Screening reduced the 5-year mortality rate for NPC by 20.4 - 43.3%, compared with the equivalent rate without screening. The 5 year mortality rate and the NPC pick-up rate with strategy A1 (annual screening) were 23.6% and 83.9%, respectively. Compared with strategy A1, strategy B1 (annual screening for seropositive subjects; biennial screening for seronegative subjects) had a similar 5-year mortality rate (24.0%) and a slightly smaller NPC pick-up rate (81.7%), but led to a 39.3% reduction in total screenings. Compared with all other strategies excluding strategy A1, strategy B1 achieved the lowest 5-year mortality rate and the largest NPC pick-up rate. CONCLUSIONS Strategy B1 had the highest efficacy for NPC screening.

Abstract
AIM To study macular features in patients with congenital nystagmus and to assess the utility of spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) in nystagmus. METHODS The macular areas of 51 outpatients with congenital nystagmus were examined using SD-OCT. Morphological changes in the retinal layers of the macular area were analysed. RESULTS Macular images were successfully obtained with SD-OCT from 50 (98%) patients. Patients with ocular albinism mainly have macular hypoplasia, abnormal foveal depression, and increased foveal thickness with persistence of an inner nuclear layer, an inner plexiform layer, a ganglion cell layer and a nerve fiber layer. Macular morphology similar to albinism was observed in three patients with idiopathic macular hypoplasia. The OCT findings of cone dystrophy included unclear, disrupted or invisible photoreceptor outer segment/inner segment in the fovea; fusion, thickening and uneven reflection of the outer segment/inner segment with external limiting membrane. Some patients with congenital idiopathic nystagmus showed normal macular morphology and structure, and others showed indistinct macular external limiting membrane reflection. CONCLUSION SD-OCT is an effective and reliable method to detect the macular morphology of congenital nystagmus patients. This technique has diagnostic value in particular for patients with macular hypoplasia and cone cell dystrophy with no distinct abnormality on fundoscopy.

Abstract
New microspheres containing hydrophilic core and hydrophobic coating as a controlled-release system with no toxic reagents were proposed. Water in oil in water (W/O/W) emulsion and solvent evaporation methods were used to make chitosan/ cellulose acetate (CCA) microspheres sized 200 - 400 microm. Ranitidine hydrochloride, as a model drug, was investigated for its release properties in vitro. The loading efficiency and release rate of ranitidine were affected by chitosan concentration and molecular weight. Higher loadings were obtained at lower concentrations in the interval of 1% to 2%. With chitosan at a 2% concentration microspheres could be obtained with more spherical appearance, smaller size, and higher ranitidine loading efficiency microspheres than at other concentrations. Among the different molecular weight chitosan (47, 145, 308, 499, and 1130 KD) microspheres, the high molecular weight chitosan (1130 KD) microspheres had relatively high loading efficiency (10%). Molecular weight and concentration of chitosan as well as the size of microspheres affected the release of ranitidine. Microspheres smaller than 280 microm released the drug faster than did the bigger by about 10%. The optimal condition for the preparation of the microspheres was chitosan concentration 2%, molecular weight 1130 KD. The ranitidine release from the microspheres was 30% during 48 h in phosphate-buffer saline medium.

Abstract
Partial (DNA) sequences are presented for 2 nuclear (18S and 28S rRNA genes) and 2 mitochondrial (12S rRNA and ND1 genes) loci for 5 species belonging to the Schistosoma japonicum, S. sinensium and S. indicum groups of Asian Schistosoma. Fresh field isolates were collected and cultured for the following taxa: S. incognitum (S. indicum group, central Thailand), S. mekongi (S. japonicum group, southern Laos), S. ovuncatum (S. sinensium group, northern Thailand), S. spindale (S. indicum group, northeast Thailand and central Thailand isolates) and S. sinensium (S. sinensium group, Sichuan Province, China). This represents the first published DNA sequence data for S. ovuncatum and for S. sinensium s.s. from the type locality in China. The paper also presents the first sequence data at the above loci for S. incognitum (except for the 28S sequences) and S. sinensium. Congruence was observed between the phylogenies estimated for each locus, although the relationships of S. incognitum were not so well resolved. Fitch-Margoliash, maximum likelihood (M/L) and maximum parsimony methods were used to estimate the phylogenies and the agreement between them was similar to that observed between loci. The ML tree was considered to best represent the data and additional 28S sequences (taken from the GenBank), for S. haematobium, S. japonicum, S. mansoni and Orientobilharzia turkestanicum, were used to construct an overall phylogeny. The S. indicum group taxa showed considerable divergence from the other Asian species and closest affinity with the African group. S. ovuncatum and S. sinensium appeared as sister taxa but their status as sibling species remained supported. The findings are discussed in the context of phylogeographical hypotheses for the origin of Schistosoma. An Asian origin for Schistosoma is also considered.

Abstract
Schistosoma sinensium Bao, 1958 was first isolated from an unidentified snail in Sichuan Province, PR China. This species was apparently rediscovered in Chiang Mai Province, northwest Thailand (Baidikul et al., 1984); the definitive host was the rat Rattus rattus and the intermediate host was the snail Tricula bollingi. In this paper S. sinensium is rediscovered in Sichuan Province and compared with worms recovered from experimentally infected mice, which had been exposed to cercariae shed by T. bollingi from Chiang Mai. Evidence is presented suggesting that the schistosome collected by Baidikul was not S. sinensium and that a new species is involved. The new species, named Schistosoma ovuncatum (etymology: ovum (egg) + uncatus (hooked)), is described and compared with related taxa. All previous papers on the Thai schistosome have used worms recovered from field-collected rodents only; this is the first account in which the life-cycle has been completed in the laboratory, using cercariae shed by T. bollingi, and the resulting worms described. S. ovuncatum differs from S. sinensium in terms of size and shape of body and egg, number of testes, size of ovary, length of vitellarium, intermediate host and biogeographical distribution. The relationships of the two taxa and their position with respect to the Schistosoma indicum- and S. japonicum-groups are discussed. The implications of the findings for the evolution of human schistosomiasis in the region are also commented upon.

Abstract
In this paper, adaptive control systems have been developed for the closed-loop control of mean arterial pressure using vasoactive drugs. An adaptive algorithm based on generalized predictive control law has been presented. A adaptive PI controller has been designed. The recursive least-square identification algorithm is used for on-line parameter estimation. The supervisor is added to provide safety and efficacy of control under the consideration of the physical and physiological constraints. Extensive computer simulation in the presence of unpredictable disturbances shows the system is capable of inducing hypertension.

Abstract
The sorting of the Ash1 protein to the daughter nucleus of Saccharomyces cerevisiae in late anaphase of the budding cycle correlates with the localization of ASH1 mRNA at the bud tip [1] [2]. Although the 3' untranslated region (3' UTR) of ASH1 is sufficient to localize a reporter mRNA, it is not necessary, a result which indicates that other sequences are involved [1]. We report the identification of three additional cis-acting elements in the coding region. Each element alone, when fused to a lacZ reporter gene, was sufficient for the localization of the lacZ mRNA reporter to the bud. A fine-structure analysis of the 3' UTR element showed that its function in mRNA localization did not depend on a specific sequence but on the secondary and tertiary structure of a minimal 118 nucleotide stem-loop. Mutations in the stem-loop that affect the localization of the lacZ mRNA reporter also affected the formation of the localization particles, in living cells, composed of a green fluorescent protein (GFP) complexed with lacZ-ASH1-3' UTR mRNA [3]. A specific stem-loop in the 3' UTR of the ASH1 mRNA is therefore required for both localization and particle formation, suggesting that complex formation is part of the localization mechanism. An analysis on one of the coding-region elements revealed a comparable stem-loop structure with similar functional requirements.

Abstract
Testis brain RNA-binding protein (TB-RBP) suppresses translation in vitro and attaches mRNAs to microtubules by binding to conserved elements in the 3' untranslated regions (UTRs) of specific testis and brain mRNAs. Purification of TB-RBP from testicular and brain cytoplasmic extracts has revealed that mouse TB-RBP is 99% identical to the human protein translin, a recombination "hot spot" binding protein associated with chromosomal translocations. Using a cDNA encoding TB-RBP, the gene copy number and the developmental expression of TB-RBP have been analyzed by Southern blotting, Northern blotting, and in situ hybridization. In the mouse, TB-RBP is encoded by a single copy gene. In mouse testes, three TB-RBP mRNAs of about 1.2, 1.7, and 3.0 kb are developmentally regulated with high levels of expression in meiotic and postmeiotic germ cells. A fourth TB-RBP transcript of about 3.2 kb is seen in the brain. In situ hybridization confirms high levels of testicular TB-RBP mRNAs in meiotic and postmeiotic cells, with the highest levels of TB-RBP mRNAs in pachytene spermatocytes and round spermatids of the mouse and in round spermatids of the rat. RNase H digestion assays reveal that the three TB-RBP mRNAs of mouse testes result from processing differences in their 3' untranslated regions. These data demonstrate that multiple TB-RBP mRNAs are primarily expressed in meiotic and postmeiotic germ cells in the mammalian testis, and although the specific RNA-binding ability of TB-RBP appears limited to brain and testis, TB-RBP mRNAs are widely expressed.
