Abstract
INTRODUCTION Psoriasis (PsO) is associated with the development of psoriatic arthritis (PsA). Patients with PsO often experience pre-PsA musculoskeletal (MSK) symptoms, leading to potential structural damage and substantial disease burden with impact on function. The objective of this study is to describe prevalence rates and evidence of MSK symptoms, including incidence of comorbid PsA diagnosis, in patients newly diagnosed with PsO and identify factors associated with PsA diagnosis. METHODS This retrospective analysis included administrative claims from the Optum Research Database for adult patients with a new PsO diagnosis between January 2008 and February 2019. Eligible patients had ≥ 2 claims for PsO on unique dates, were aged ≥ 18 years at the date of the first claim with a diagnosis of PsO (index date), and had continuous enrollment with medical and pharmacy coverage for 12 months before (baseline period) and ≥ 12 months following the index date. Primary outcomes were incidence of comorbid PsA diagnosis, prevalence of MSK symptoms other than PsA, and evidence of MSK symptoms collected at baseline and assessed in 12-month intervals through 60 months. RESULTS Of the 116,203 patients with newly diagnosed PsO, 110,118 were without baseline comorbid PsA. High prevalence rates of MSK symptoms among patients with only PsO were seen at baseline (47.1%), 12 months (48.2%), and 60 months (82.1%). Patient age, baseline MSK symptoms, and baseline MSK symptom-related healthcare utilization were associated with increased hazard of a PsA diagnosis. CONCLUSION Increased prevalence rates of MSK symptoms and burden are experienced by patients newly diagnosed with PsO through 60 months of follow-up. Several baseline factors were associated with increased risk of PsA diagnosis.

Abstract
Cystic fibrosis arthropathy (CFA) is a transient, intermittent form of arthritis that cannot be associated with any other disease other than CF thus making CFA a diagnosis of exclusion. NSAIDs, short-term intermittent splinting, glucocorticoids, and disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs are treatment options for CFA. Currently, there is no consensus on how to best treat CFA. Diagnosis and treatment of CFA remain a challenge for physicians and people with CF. The newest CFTR modulator therapy, elexacaftor/tezacaftor/ivacaftor (ETI), was approved by the FDA recently for children over the age of 6 with at least one Phe508del allele in the CFTR gene. Multiple clinical benefits of ETI in pulmonary functions and overall disease burden have been reported since its approval, however, the data on the musculoskeletal therapeutic benefits of ETI has been limited. In this report, we present a 7-year-old female with CF whose CFA symptoms resolved after starting ETI therapy.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Musculoskeletal symptoms in welders may affect their health and quality of life. This study determined the prevalence of musculoskeletal symptoms among welders compared to non-welders and determined the body part(s) mostly affected. METHODOLOGY The study is a comparative cross-sectional study. 142 welders and 136 security officers in Ikenne local government area of Ogun State, Nigeria were included in the study. The Nordic Musculoskeletal Questionnaire (NMQ) was used to obtain information on the prevalence of musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs). Descriptive statistics methods were used to summarize the data. Chi-square bivariate analysis was conducted to test for associations between welders' occupational characteristics and the 12-month prevalence of back pain. RESULTS The mean age of respondents was 36.8±13.9 years and 36.7±9.4 for non-welders. Two-fifth (40.8%) of the welders had less than 10 years of work experience. About half (50.7%) of them worked six days a week, and many (54.9%) worked more than eight hours daily. The prevalence of back pain was higher among welders (74.6%) than in security officers (33.8%). This finding was significant (P<0.001). Also, knee pain was more common among welders (31.7%) compared to security officers (16.2%). The 12-month prevalence of back pain among welders and control was 74.6% and 33.8% respectively and knee pain among welders and control was 31.7% and 16.2% respectively. Both were statistically significant (p=0.001). In the last seven days, back pain was present more among welders than in controls (50.0% Vs 26.5%). CONCLUSION The study shows a high prevalence of musculoskeletal symptoms among welders compared to non-welders. The lower back is the part of the body most affected. Training and health education of the workers on the negative effect of musculoskeletal symptoms on the body, and the right posture to adopt at work would go a long way in reducing the occurrence of these symptoms.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND AIMS The efficacy of statin therapy is hindered by intolerance to the therapy, leading to discontinuation. Variants in SLCO1B1, which encodes the hepatic transporter OATB1B1, influence statin pharmacokinetics, resulting in altered plasma concentrations of the drug and its metabolites. Current pharmacogenetic guidelines require sequencing of the SLCO1B1 gene, which is more expensive and less accessible than genotyping. In this study, we aimed to develop an easy, clinically implementable functional gene risk score (GRS) of common variants in SLCO1B1 to identify patients at risk of statin intolerance. METHODS AND RESULTS A GRS was developed from four common variants in SLCO1B1. In statin users from Tayside, Scotland, UK, those with a high-risk GRS had increased odds across three phenotypes of statin intolerance [general statin intolerance (GSI): ORGSI 2.42; 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.29-4.31, P = 0.003; statin-related myopathy: ORSRM 2.51; 95% CI: 1.28-4.53, P = 0.004; statin-related suspected rhabdomyolysis: ORSRSR 2.85; 95% CI: 1.03-6.65, P = 0.02]. In contrast, using the Val174Ala genotype alone or the recommended OATP1B1 functional phenotypes produced weaker and less reliable results. A meta-analysis with results from adjudicated cases of statin-induced myopathy in the PREDICTION-ADR Consortium confirmed these findings (ORVal174Ala 1.99; 95% CI: 1.01-3.95, P = 0.048; ORGRS 1.76; 95% CI: 1.16-2.69, P = 0.008). For those requiring high-dose statin therapy, the high-risk GRS was more consistently associated with the time to onset of statin intolerance amongst the three phenotypes compared with Val174Ala (GSI: HRVal174Ala 2.49; 95% CI: 1.09-5.68, P = 0.03; HRGRS 2.44; 95% CI: 1.46-4.08, P < 0.001). Finally, sequence kernel association testing confirmed that rare variants in SLCO1B1 are associated with the risk of intolerance (P = 0.02). CONCLUSION We provide evidence that a GRS based on four common SLCO1B1 variants provides an easily implemented genetic tool that is more reliable than the current recommended practice in estimating the risk and predicting early-onset statin intolerance.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Musculoskeletal disorders are common health problems worldwide. Several factors cause these symptoms, including ergonomics and other individual considerations. Computer users are prone to repetitive strain injuries that increase the risk of developing musculoskeletal symptoms (MSS). Radiologists are susceptible to developing MSS because they work long hours analysing medical images on computers in an increasingly digitalised field. This study aimed to identify the prevalence of MSS among Saudi radiologists and the associated risk factors. METHODS This study was a cross-sectional, non-interventional, self-administered online survey. The study was conducted on 814 Saudi radiologists from various regions in Saudi Arabia. The study's outcome was the presence of MSS in any body region that limited participation in routine activities over the previous 12 months. The results were descriptively examined using binary logistic regression analysis to estimate the odds ratio (OR) of participants who had disabling MSS in the previous 12 months. All university, public, and private radiologists received an online survey containing questions about work surroundings, workload (e.g., spent at a computer workstation), and demographic characteristics. RESULTS The prevalence of MSS among the radiologists was 87.7%. Most of the participants (82%) were younger than 40 years of age. Radiography and computed tomography were the most common imaging modalities that caused MSS (53.4% and 26.8%, respectively). The most common symptoms were neck pain (59.3%) and lower back pain (57.1%). After adjustment, age, years of experience, and part-time employment were significantly associated with increased MSS (OR = .219, 95% CI = .057-.836; OR = .235, 95% CI = 087-.634; and OR = 2.673, 95% CI = 1.434-4.981, respectively). Women were more likely to report MSS than males (OR = 2.12, 95% CI = 1.327-3.377). CONCLUSIONS MSS are common among Saudi radiologists, with neck pain and lower back pain being the most frequently reported symptoms. Gender, age, years of experience, type of imaging modality, and employment status were the most common associated risk factors for developing MSS. These findings are vital for the development of interventional plans to reduce the prevalence of musculoskeletal complaints in clinical radiologists.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Despite an increase in mental health problems, with psychosomatic symptoms having been observed in new generations of Swedish youth, the extent to which these problems correspond to an increase in adult mental problems is unknown. The present study investigates whether Swedish adolescents with high levels of psychosomatic symptoms are at risk of developing depression and anxiety problems in adulthood and whether sex moderates any association. Moreover, we aim to understand whether different clusters of youth psychosomatic symptoms - somatic, psychological and musculoskeletal - have different impacts on adult mental health. METHODS One thousand five hundred forty-five Swedish adolescents - aged 13 (49%) and 15 (51%) - completed surveys at baseline (T1) and 3 years later (T2); of them, 1174 (61% females) also participated after 6 years (T3). Multivariate logistic models were run. RESULTS Youth with high levels of psychosomatic symptoms had higher odds of high levels of depressive symptoms at T2 and T3. Moreover, psychosomatic symptoms at T1 predicted a high level of anxiety symptoms and diagnoses of anxiety disorders at T3. When analyzed separately, musculoskeletal symptoms predicted higher odds of having high levels of depressive symptoms at T2 and T3 while somatic symptoms predicted high levels of anxiety symptoms at T2. Moreover, somatic symptoms at T1 predicted diagnoses of depression and anxiety disorders at T3. Sex did not moderate any of the relationships. CONCLUSIONS The study supports the idea that an increase in mental health problems, such as psychosomatic symptoms, can seriously impact the psychological health of new generations of young adults.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Poor operative ergonomics can lead to muscle fatigue and injury. However, formal ergonomics education is uncommon in surgical residencies. Our study examines the prevalence of musculoskeletal (MSK) symptoms, baseline ergonomics knowledge, and the impact of an ergonomics workshop in general surgery residents. METHODS An anonymous voluntary presurvey and postsurvey was distributed to all general surgery residents at a single academic residency, assessing resident characteristics, MSK symptoms, and ergonomic knowledge before and after an ergonomics workshop. The workshop consisted of a lecture and a personalized posture coaching session with a physiatrist. RESULTS The presurvey received 33/35 (94%) responses. Of respondents, 100% reported some degree of MSK pain. Prevalence of muscle stiffness and fatigue decreased with increasing height. Females reported higher frequencies of MSK pain (P = 0.01) and more muscle fatigue than males (100% versus 73%, P = 0.03). All residents reported little to no ergonomics knowledge with 68% reporting that ergonomics was rarely discussed in the operating room. The postsurvey received 26/35 (74%) responses. Of respondents, 100% reported the workshop was an effective method of ergonomics education. MSK symptom severity improved in 82% of residents. Reports that ergonomics was rarely discussed in the operating room significantly decreased to 22.8% of residents (P < 0.01). CONCLUSIONS Surgical resident ergonomics knowledge is poor and MSK symptoms are common. Resident characteristics are associated with different MSK symptoms. Didactic teaching and personalized posture coaching improve ergonomics knowledge and reduce MSK symptom severity. Surgical residencies should consider implementing similar interventions to improve resident wellbeing.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Universitas Indonesia (UI) implemented a work from home program (WFH) to curb the spread of the coronavirus, as the use of gadgets including mobile phones and tablets were becoming prolonged and more frequent. As a result, musculoskeletal symptoms in certain limbs due to awkward posture sprang up. Therefore, the aim of this study was to quantify the degree of the use of these devices among UI community during the WFH initiative, as well as to identify musculoskeletal complaints resulting from defective postures. Consequently, this cross-sectional survey employed an online-based questionnaire, and the minimum number of respondents was 1080, as calculated using Slovin Formula. Meanwhile, a total of 1083 individuals, including lecturers (118), students (709), and managerial staff (256), obtained from 14 faculties, three schools, as well as administrative centres, volunteered to respond to the online poll. Apparently, 95% of the scholars owned mobile phones while only 16% possessed tablets, and 56% had used phones for over 10 years. The typical posture when using mobile devices was a reclining position on a sofa or mattress for a duration of 1–3 h as recounted by 34.6%. Also, sitting at a table for less than 30 min was reported by 25.3% of the subjects who used tablets. Furthermore, 70.5% of the respondents complained of musculoskeletal discomfort, particularly in the neck (86.4%), lower back (75.9%), and right & left shoulders (76.2%). In addition, the postures significantly related to these grievances included sitting at a table, alongside a prone position whilst using a mobile phone, as well as a latent or floor-sitting posture when using a laptop, whether at a table or not. Therefore, it is essential to do stretching, limiting usage time, look away every 20 min at an object that is about 20 feet away for a full 20 s when using a gadget and having adequate rest time to reduce musculoskeletal complaints.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Multi-site musculoskeletal symptoms (MSS) are considered to be more common and have more serious consequences than single-site MSS. This study aimed to determine whether derived patterns of MSS may be identified in electronic assembly workers and if extracted MSS classes are associated with personal and work-related factors. METHOD A cross-sectional questionnaire study was performed with 700 participating electronic assembly workers. The questionnaire included individual factors, psychosocial and physical exposures, and MSS. The derived patterns of MSS and their relationships with ergonomic factors were analyzed using latent class analysis (LCA) and multinomial logistic regression models (MLRM). RESULTS The 1-year prevalence of MSS affecting only one body site or two or more body sites was 14.9% and 32.7%, respectively. The results of LCA showed three distinct classes of MSS patterns, which were labelled 'MSS in most sites' (5.0%), 'MSS in neck and shoulder' (27.0%), and 'MSS in one or no site' (68.0%). The results of MLRM showed that the 'MSS in neck and shoulder' was associated with job tenure (OR 5.579, 95% CI 2.488-12.511), excessive dynamic and static loads (OR 3.868, 95% CI 1.702-8.793 and OR 5.270, 95% CI 2.020-13.747, respectively); while the 'MSS in most sites' was associated with high job demands (OR 4.528, 95% CI 1.647-12.445) and excessive dynamic loads (OR 111.554, 95% CI 4.996-2490.793). CONCLUSIONS The results showed unique patterns of MSS among electronic assembly workers that were associated with personal and work-related factors. PRACTICAL APPLICATIONS The findings highlight that the high prevalence of multi-site MSS in this group should be a focus. It also provides further evidence that LCA considering the number and location of anatomical sites involving MSS can be used to determine distinct classes of MSS patterns, which is of great significance for the epidemiological study and management of MSS in the future.

Abstract
Background and objectives Latest studies have revealed that an increasing number of Corona Virus Disease of 2019 (COVID-19) patients may continue to feel symptoms after the acute phase. This study aimed to evaluate the prevalence of musculoskeletal symptoms after the acute phase of COVID-19 and its associated factors. Methods We designed a cross-sectional study from January 2021 to April 2021. An online questionnaire was designed and sent to patients who had recovered from COVID-19. The questionnaire contained questions on participants' demographic characteristics, COVID-19 course at its acute phase, and musculoskeletal symptoms after recovering from COVID-19. Musculoskeletal symptoms associations with patients’ characteristic and COVID-19 course was evaluated. Result 239 patients, including 72 (30.1%) males and 167 (69.9%) females with a mean age of 37.96 years (SD = 11.19), were included in the study. 98.74% of our patients had experienced at least one musculoskeletal symptom after recovering from COVID-19, and the most common symptom was fatigue, as 91.2% of participants experienced this symptom, followed by myalgia, headache, and low back pain. High BMI, hospitalization, and ICU admission were associated with a higher risk of musculoskeletal symptoms. Conclusion This study indicated a high prevalence of persistent musculoskeletal symptoms among patients who recovered from COVID-19. Modifiable factors, such as BMI, can be targeted to reduce the prevalence of musculoskeletal symptoms in COVID-19 survivors and reduce its burden.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Musculoskeletal (MSK) symptoms, including arthritis and arthralgia, are common manifestations of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE); definitions of activity patterns in SLE differ across studies. This study described clinical characteristics and treatment patterns of patients with SLE-MSK over time and by disease activity patterns from a real-world setting. METHODS This retrospective descriptive analysis includes a subset of patients with SLE from the Hopkins Lupus Cohort with identified MSK involvement by scores on the arthritis domain of the Safety of Estrogens in Systemic Lupus Erythematosus National Assessment-Systemic Lupus Erythematosus Disease Activity Index (SELENA-SLEDAI) or Lupus Activity Index. Clinical characteristics and treatment patterns were described for patients with at least two visits over the observation period (2010-2019) for the SLE-MSK population based on three disease activity patterns: chronically active (MSK-CA), relapsing-remitting (MSK-RR), and long quiescence (MSK-LQ). RESULTS The SLE-MSK subpopulation included 664 patients (4069 person-years). The most frequently used medications over the observation period were antimalarials (95%), corticosteroids (92%), immunosuppressants (58%), and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) (48%); 7% of patients used biologics. The highest use of corticosteroids was in the MSK-CA group (90.5% of follow-up time), followed by MSK- RR (83.9%), and MSK-LQ (46.5%). Mean prednisone dose was significantly higher in MSK-RR (8.5 mg) compared to MSK-CA (6.5 mg). CONCLUSIONS This descriptive analysis highlights the impact of prevalent manifestations such as arthritis on the chronic use of corticosteroids, immunosuppressants, and NSAIDs to manage disease activity in patients with SLE, suggesting there is a need for new therapeutic options that enable a lower use of medication when treating lupus.

Abstract
PURPOSE The variation in the immune response to Bartonella spp. infection in humans remains unclear. The present study compares the expression of selected interleukins, cytokines and cathelicidin (LL-37) in rheumatology clinic patients suffering from musculoskeletal symptoms with healthy blood donors. The patients had previously been tested for the presence of Bartonella henselae antibodies. METHODS Gene expression of LL-37, interleukin (IL)-2, IL-4, IL-6, IL-12, interferon-(IFN)-γ, and tumor necrosis factor (TNF-α)-α was determined in blood samples using quantitative Polymerase Chain Reaction (qPCR). Statistical analysis was prepared with STATISTICA. RESULTS Statistically significant differences in the mRNA levels of the tested cytokines (IFN-γ, TNF-α, IL-2, IL-4, IL-6, IL-12; p<0.0001) were observed between the healthy controls and patients; however, no difference was observed for LL37 mRNA (p = 0.1974). No significant differences in mRNA expression were observed between IgG in anti-Bartonella seropositive and seronegative individuals (p>0.05). The only significant differences between the Bartonella spp. DNA positive and negative patients, indicated by PCR, were observed for TNF-α and IL-12 mRNA (p = 0.0045 and p = 0.0255, respectively). CONCLUSION A broadly similar immune response to the tested cytokines was observed among the participants irrespective of anti-Bartonella spp. IgG seropositivity. However, the Bartonella DNA-positive participants demonstrated significantly lower expression of IL-12 and TNF-α mRNA; this may indicate that these bacteria have a suppressive influence on the immune system.

Abstract
PURPOSE To examine benefit of sulindac for relief of musculoskeletal symptoms (MSS) in patients stable on aromatase inhibitors (AIs). METHODS Sulindac was evaluated at 150 mg twice daily for effects on MSS at 3, 6, 9, and 12 months in 50 postmenopausal women stable on AI therapy for a median of 12.5 months for hormone receptor-positive breast cancer. A separate, non-randomized group of 50 similar patients was observed for change in MSS over 12 months. MSS severity was assessed using the Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis (WOMAC) Index and Brief Pain Inventory Short Form (BPI-SF). The Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy-General form (FACT-G) measured quality of life (QOL). Change in MSS and QOL across time was assessed in each group using linear mixed effects models. RESULTS Stiffness, not pain, was the main complaint at baseline. At 12 months, sulindac patients reported decreases (improvements) in mean (95% CI) Total WOMAC score [- 5.85 (- 9.73, - 1.96)] and WOMAC pain [- 5.40 (- 10.64, - 0 .18)], Stiffness [- 9.53 (- 14.98, - 4.08)] and Physical Function [- 5.61 (- 9.62, - 1.60)] subscales, but not BPI-SF worst pain. Among sulindac patients with higher baseline MSS severity, 35% experienced ≥ 50% improvement in Total WOMAC and Total FACT-G scores [6.18 (2.08, 10.27); P = 0.003]. For the observation group, MSS and QOL did not improve over 12 months, even among those with higher baseline MSS severity. CONCLUSIONS Sulindac may relieve MSS in AI patients, especially physical function and stiffness. Randomized controlled trials should further evaluate NSAIDs on AI-MSS and AI adherence. Abstract
Background Dental students are frequently affected by work-related musculoskeletal symptoms (WMSs) due to reasons such as working conditions, difficult education process and long work periods. The aim of the study was to investigate the frequency and anatomical distribution of WMSs, and its effect on the quality of life (QoL) in dental students. Methods Sociodemographic and health-related characteristics of one-hundred and five dental students were recorded. WMSs were scored by the participants with the Nordic Musculoskeletal Questionnaire. Then, participants were asked to evaluate their QoL by scoring the World Health Organization Quality of Life-Brief Form. Differences between independent groups for continuous variables were evaluated by Student’s t-test and ANOVA as appropriate. Linear regression analysis was performed to determine the effect of demographic and health-related parameters in predicting the QoL subscales. Results The most common painful region in the last 12 months was the neck (66.7%). The body region with the most WMSs in the last 7 days was the upper back (43.8%). Physical health-related QoL of those with diagnosed musculoskeletal symptoms, and general health-related QoL of those using medicine due to any musculoskeletal symptoms were found to be statistically significantly lower (p = 0.018, p = 0.041, respectively). It was observed that the general and physical health, psychological well-being, and social relationship of the participants who reported the presence of neck pain in the last 7 days were statistically significantly lower (p = 0.003, p < 0.001, p = 0.004, p = 0.012; respectively). According to multiple regression analyses, pain occurrence in the body in the last 12 months and/or in the last 7 days had a negative impact on the participants’ general and physical health, psychological well-being, social relationship, and environmental status and related QoL (p = 0.026, p = 0.047, p = 0.021, p = 0.001, p = 0.027, respectively). Conclusions The results of this study show that dental students’ body regions, especially the neck and the back, are affected by WMSs. These negative changes observed in the body had a negative effect on the QoL of the dental students.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Aromatase inhibitor (AI)-induced joint pain is a common toxicity of AI treatment. Although many studies have been conducted to examine the occurrence and severity of AI-induced joint pain in breast cancer survivors, none of the studies focused on the Chinese population with breast cancer. Given that the differences in cultural background and the genetic structure between Asians and Caucasians may contribute to different phenotypes of joint pain, this cross-sectional study was therefore conducted to examine the prevalence of AI-induced joint pain among Chinese breast cancer survivors receiving AI treatment and the correlates of pain. METHODS This cross-sectional study was conducted in a tertiary hospital in China. Breast cancer survivors undergoing AI treatment were recruited to complete the following questionnaires: a self-designed baseline data form, the Nordic Musculoskeletal Questionnaire (NMQ), the Brief Pain Inventory (BPI), the 36-Item Short Form Health Survey (SF-36), and the Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy-Breast (FACT-B). Based on the assessment results of NMQ (if the participant indicated pain in specific body parts), participants were then invited to complete other questionnaires to specifically assess the joint symptoms, including the Oxford Knee Score (OKS), the Oxford Hip Score (OHS), the Michigan Hand Outcomes Questionnaire (MHQ), and the Manchester Foot Pain Disability Questionnaire (MFPDQ). Descriptive analysis was used to analyse participants' baseline data and the prevalence of pain. Stepwise multiple regression was used to identify the correlates of pain. RESULTS Four hundred and ten participants were analysed. According to the NMQ, 71.7% of the participants experienced joint symptoms in at least one joint, and the most frequently mentioned joint was knee (39.0%). The diagram in BPI indicated that 28.0% of the participants had the worst pain around knees. In patients with knee pain, the mean OKS score was 40.46 ± 6.19. The sub-scores of BPI for pain intensity and pain interference were 1.30 ± 1.63 and 1.24 ± 1.79, respectively. Patients' poorer physical well-being/functioning, previous use of AI treatment, presence of osteoarthritis, and receiving of physiotherapy were identified as four common correlates of greater severity of pain and pain interference (p < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS Chinese breast cancer survivors can experience joint pain at various locations, particularly knees. In addition to increasing the use of interventions for pain alleviation, a comprehensive assessment of survivors' conditions such as physical functioning, history of AI treatment, and presence of osteoarthritis should be emphasized to identify survivors who need more attention and tailored interventions.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) play a major role in economic growth and employment, and they come with a greater risk of work-related illnesses for workers. Metal-based SMEs are recognised as the sector with the most demanding physical work activities and awkward postures, which are considered risk factors of musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs). This study analysed the risk factors of MSDs associated with different work postures during production. METHODS Body postures were examined using the Rapid Entire Body Assessment (REBA) method, and the data on musculoskeletal symptoms were collected using the Nordic Musculoskeletal Questionnaire (NMQ). RESULTS The results were calculated using the REBA method to determine the level of risk of various postures, namely, low risk (3.6%), medium risk (25.0%), high risk (60.7%), and very high risk (10.7%). The NMQ results indicated that most of the symptoms and discomfort were in the lower back (65%), wrist (45%), shoulder (35%), and ankle (35%) regions. CONCLUSIONS The physical factors contributed more to the musculoskeletal symptoms in the body regions affected. The use of tools in lifting activities could decrease the level of risk.

Abstract
PURPOSE Precision handicraft workers are often exposed to stressful postures and poor working conditions while performing different jobs, that are directly associated with the development of musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs). This cross-sectional study aimed at evaluating the prevalence of MSDs and contributing risk factors among male precision handicraft workers. METHODS 334 handicraft workers involved in different precision activities: 125 gemstone cutters, 98 miniature painters, and 111 metal craft workers, were surveyed. Information about the prevalence of musculoskeletal symptoms and work-related factors was collected using the self-reported questionnaire and direct observation methods, viz. rapid upper limb assessment (RULA) and rapid entire body assessment (REBA). Chi-square test was performed to analyze the association of MSD symptoms between the handicraft occupations. Further, binary logistic regression was used to identify the potential risk factors for MSD symptoms among workers. RESULTS In all occupational groups, most participants reported high prevalence of MSDs primarily in the neck (61.6%), lower back (74.8%), and knee (54.7%) regions. Results revealed that age, work experience, prolonged work hours, sustained awkward posture, continuous work without break, extensive work pressure, and poor job control increased the risk of MSD symptoms in different body regions, while with a higher level of education, MSDs in the neck and lower back regions reduced. CONCLUSION The findings indicated incompatibility between precision handicraft workers and the occupational environment. Logistic regression models showed significant contribution of physical and psychosocial work-related factors in developing MSD symptoms. Ergonomic interventions are imperative to evade adverse consequences on the occupational health of precision craft workers.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The aim of this study was to assess the occurrence of self-reported musculoskeletal disorders (MSD) among Polish territorial army soldiers during the COVID-19 pandemic and to investigate whether there was a relationship between occupational physical activity (OPA), leisure time physical activity (LTPA), and MSD. METHODS The study used a cross-sectional design with a sample of 373 territorial army soldiers ages 18-55 who had not previously suffered from COVID-19 and were not convalescents. The symptoms prevalence data was collected using the standardized Nordic Musculoskeletal Questionnaire. OPA and LTPA data was collected using the Seven-Day Physical Activity Recall (SDPAR). RESULTS The OPA, LTPA, and total physical activity (PA) among the studied soldiers was very diverse and the mean level of PA was relatively high. A total of 56 and 40% of territorial army soldiers had experienced pain or other discomfort in one or more of nine body regions during the past 12 months and during the past 7 days, respectively. The most common MSD among Polish territorial army soldiers were low back pain, followed by pain in the neck and knees. CONCLUSIONS The study revealed that the OPA of the studied soldiers, especially vigorous-intensity and high vigorous-intensity OPA, was associated with a higher prevalence of MSD in several regions of the body, i.e. the lower back, elbows, wrists or hands, hips or thighs, and ankles or feet. Along with the increase in energy expenditure on total PA, a greater percentage of respondents experienced low back pain. Vigorous and high vigorous-intensity PA may contribute to the occurrence of MSD.

Abstract
Background The present study aimed to determine the prevalence of work-related musculoskeletal symptoms (WMSs), identify potential factors associated with WMSs, and determine the association between WMSs and fatigue among nurses. Methods This cross-sectional study was carried out among 500 Iranian nurses. Data was gathered by the 1) Persian version of the Nordic musculoskeletal questionnaire (P-NMQ) to examine WMSs, and 2) Persian version of the Multidimensional Assessment of Fatigue (P-MAF) Scale to evaluate fatigue among the study population. Then, data was analyzed by SPSS version 21 using the χ2 test, multiple logistic regression for detection of potential factors associated with WMSs, and multiple linear regression for detection of potential factors associated with fatigue. Results Ankles/feet, lower back, knees, and shoulders had the highest prevalence of WMSs among nurses within the last 12 months prior to the study. Independent variables including age, job tenure, gender, smoking, shift work, and type of employment were significantly associated with WMSs in different body regions with odds ratios (ORs) ranging from 1.635–2.835. Moreover, WMSs in some body regions were associated with subscales of fatigue and total fatigue. Conclusions Ergonomic and organizational interventions for fitting the job to the nurses considering demographic/occupational characteristics are highly essential to improve musculoskeletal system health and relieve fatigue.

Abstract
[Purpose] The purposes of this study were to: 1) survey smartphone addiction among
university students, 2) survey the prevalence of upper body musculoskeletal symptoms in
relation to the respondents’ sitting posture, and 3) determine the association between
smartphone addiction and upper body musculoskeletal symptoms, classified by age and
gender. [Participants and Methods] Two self-report questionnaires were employed to collect
data from 2,645 university students in Chiang Mai, Thailand. [Results] Of 2,027
respondents (860 males and 1,167 females), the participants’ ages ranged from 18 to
26 years with a mean age of 20.5 ± 1.38 years. The prevalence of smartphone addiction and
upper body musculoskeletal symptoms among participants were 15.9% and 30%, respectively.
Overall, the mean value of pain severity was 3.66 ± 1.67 out of 10 on the visual analog
scale. Multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed that smartphone addiction
(OR=6.05, 95% CI: 4.68–7.84), was significantly associated with upper-body musculoskeletal
symptoms when adjusted by age and gender. [Conclusion] The prevalence of upper body
musculoskeletal symptoms was relatively high, especially for female smartphone users and
students aged over 20 years. These results suggest that smartphone addiction may be a
potential risk factor for upper body musculoskeletal symptoms in university students.

Abstract
To describe the rheumatic and musculoskeletal symptoms at hospitalization as well as their persistence/severity after discharge with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and to identify whether age, sex, body mass index (BMI), and length of hospital stay are associated with persistence of these symptoms. In this single-center cohort study, comprising 300 participants, two phone interviews were conducted (2-week and 1-month after hospitalization) and symptoms were queried with a standardized form. This form included musculoskeletal symptoms and other COVID-19 symptoms. Considering all symptoms (musculoskeletal and other), 100.0%, 86.7%, and 72.0% of patients reported one or more symptoms, at hospitalization, 2-week, and 1-month, respectively. Considering only musculoskeletal symptoms, 92.3%, 72.7%, and 56.3% of patients reported any musculoskeletal symptom at hospitalization, 2-week, and 1-month, respectively. The musculoskeletal symptoms were fatigue (44.3% of patients reported), back pain (22.7%), arthralgia (22.0%), myalgia (21.0%), low back pain (16.3%), and neck pain (10.3%); the other symptoms were shortness of breath (26.3%), loss of taste (15.0%), cough (14.0%), loss of smell (12.3%), loss of appetite (10.3%), headache (8.7%), sore throat (3.0%), diarrhea (1.3%), dizziness (1.3%), and fever (0.3%) at 1-month. Increasing BMI was associated with higher odds of persistence of fatigue (OR: 1.08, 1.03 to 1.13), myalgia (OR: 1.08, 1.01 to 1.14), and arthralgia (OR: 1.07, 1.02 to 1.14, p = 0.012) at 1-month. Nearly three-quarters reported one or more symptoms, with more than half of patients reported any musculoskeletal symptom at 1 month. The most common musculoskeletal symptom was fatigue, followed by back pain, arthralgia, myalgia, low back pain, and neck pain. The persistence of fatigue, myalgia, and arthralgia was related to BMI. The study results increase our understanding of the spectrum of COVID-19, which, in turn, may lead to more efficient and better care for COVID-19 survivors.

Abstract
Currently, there is no guidance on the training programme approach that should be provided to new sit-stand workstation users to optimally integrate workstation usage patterns into their working day. The objective of this research study was to determine if a training programme could influence long-term usage of sit-stand workstations. Thirty-five employees from the University of Waterloo volunteered to participate in this longitudinal study. Two different types of training programmes were delivered: (1) an example from industry and (2) based on current literature. There was an influence of training programme on the frequency of sit to stand transitions made each day. Those who received the additional training programme also reported sitting less, standing more and used their sit-stand workstations more consistently day-to-day than those who did not. Practitioner Summary: A longitudinal study was conducted to assess the impact of training programmes on sit-stand workstation usage. A training programme based on current literature resulted in more consistent sit-stand usage than an industry example.

Abstract
Objectives The aim of this study was to explore the use of Bayesian networks (BNs) to understand the relationships between musculoskeletal symptoms and the development of PsA in people with psoriasis. Methods Incident cases of psoriasis were identified for 1998 to 2015 from the UK Clinical Research Practice Datalink. Musculoskeletal symptoms (identified by Medcodes) were concatenated into primary groups, each made up of several subgroups. Baseline demographics for gender, age, BMI, psoriasis severity, alcohol use and smoking status were also extracted. Several BN structures were composed using a combination of expert knowledge and data-oriented modelling based on: (i) primary musculoskeletal symptom groups; (ii) musculoskeletal symptom subgroups and (iii) demographic variables. Predictive ability of the networks using the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve was calculated. Results Over one million musculoskeletal symptoms were extracted for the 90 189 incident cases of psoriasis identified, of which 1409 developed PsA. The BN analysis yielded direct relationships between gender, BMI, arthralgia, finger pain, fatigue, hand pain, hip pain, knee pain, swelling, back pain, myalgia and PsA. The best BN, achieved by using the more site-specific musculoskeletal symptom subgroups, was 76% accurate in predicting the development of PsA in a test set and had an area under the receiver operating characteristic curve of 0.73 (95% CI: 0.70, 0.75). Conclusion The presented BN model may be a useful method to identify clusters of symptoms that predict the development of PsA with reasonable accuracy. Using a BN approach, we have shown that there are several symptoms which are predecessors of PsA, including fatigue, specific types of pain and swelling.

Abstract
Musculoskeletal symptoms may be due to noninflammatory causes, including genetic disorders. We aimed to examine the final genetic diagnosis in patients who presented with musculoskeletal complaints to the rheumatology department. Patients who presented to the Department of Pediatric Rheumatology and were referred to the pediatric genetic department between January 2015 and May 2019 were evaluated retrospectively. A total of 60 patients, 19 boys (31.66%), with a mean age of 12.46 ± 1.41 years were included in the study. The total consanguinity rate was 25%. The most common (29.5%) cause of referral to the pediatric genetic department was the presence of skeletal anomalies (such as camptodactyly, clinodactyly, and short stature) with accompanying joint findings. Approximately one-third of the patients (n: 19) were diagnosed and followed up by the pediatric genetics department. The diagnoses of patients were as follows: camptodactyly, arthropathy, coxa vara, and pericarditis (CACP) syndrome (n: 3); trichorhinophalangeal syndrome (n: 1); progressive pseudorheumatoid dysplasia (n: 2); LIG4 syndrome (n: 1); H syndrome (n: 1); spondyloenchondrodysplasia (SPENCD) (n: 3); and nonspecific connective tissue disorders (n: 8). In the differential diagnosis of patients who are referred to the Department of Pediatric Rheumatology with complaints of the musculoskeletal system, genetic disorders should also be considered.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE There is limited information on cold-related pain (CRP) in various parts of the body among workers employed in cold environments. We, therefore, determined the prevalence of CRP among Thai chicken industry workers and attempted to identify vulnerable subgroups. METHODS Four hundred and twenty-two workers in four chicken meat factories in Thailand were asked about CRP in the face, upper limbs, and lower body. The results were expressed as adjusted prevalence and prevalence differences [PD; in percentage points (pp)] and their 95% confidence intervals (CI). RESULTS Overall, 80% of the subjects suffered from CRP in at least one site on the body: 66% in the upper limbs, 65% in the lower body, and 44% in the face. In most sites, CRP increased from the lowest to the highest educational level, notably in the nose with a PD of 36 pp [95% CI 23, 49]. Forklift drivers experienced knee pain [PD 21 pp (0, 41)], and manufacturing [PD 27 pp (15, 38)] and storage workers [PD 24 pp (10, 37)] experienced thigh pain more often than office workers, while office workers reported CRP in the cheeks, ears, wrists, and fingers more often than other workers. Women had more CRP than men in several body sites. CONCLUSIONS The majority of workers suffered from CRP. Intensified protective measures should be targeted not only for forklift drivers and storage and manufacturing workers, but also for the highly educated as well as the office staff who showed excessive prevalence of CRP in several body sites.

Abstract
How working hours are organized can have a substantial effect on workers' health. Using a questionnaire and cross-sectional study design, we evaluated the relationship between working time characteristics, job demands, and health behaviors on musculoskeletal symptoms among 316 Department of Transportation (N = 174) and Department of Corrections (N = 142) workers. Low schedule control was associated with neck/shoulder musculoskeletal symptoms (prevalence ratio: 1.20, 95% confidence interval: 1.06-1.34, p < 0.01), and working long (>48 hours per week) hours more frequently was associated with leg/foot musculoskeletal symptoms (prevalence ratio: 1.26 95% confidence interval: 1.06-1.50, p = 0.02). Some working time characteristics were associated with musculoskeletal symptoms, and should be taken into consideration as part of interventions to prevent musculoskeletal disorders and promote health of workers.

Abstract
This study followed assembly line workers during 7 months, comprising a 4-wk season
holidays. The main purposes were to determine the potential effect of working time on the
presence and intensity of upper limb musculoskeletal symptoms, as to verify the effect of
4 wk of job interruption in the upper limb musculoskeletal symptoms presence and
intensity. Data was collected during 6 moments. Generalized estimating equations analyses
were used. For the effect estimates, odds ratio with corresponding 95% confidence
intervals were reported for each outcome/model. The upper limb musculoskeletal symptoms
showed a significant increase (p=0.001), especially after
the 4 wk off. In all data collection points there was a significant positive association
between the upper limb musculoskeletal symptoms and general health status
(p<0.001). Considering symptoms’ intensity,
significant relations were found (p<0.001). Work time had
a negative effect on the work-related upper limb musculoskeletal symptoms over 7 months
(OR 0.909, 95% CI 0.861–0.960, p=0.001). For the intensity
of upper limb symptoms, the effect of time was also statistical significant (OR 0.115, 95%
CI 1.031–1.220, p=0.008). A 4-wk job interruption did not
show an immediately positive effect on upper limb musculoskeletal symptoms presence.

Abstract
BACKGROUND In the past decade, mobile phone usage rates have increased and there have been concerns that overuse of mobile phones may contribute to various musculoskeletal (MSK) problems. OBJECTIVES The aim of the present study was to systematically review available literature on the prevalence of MSK complaints, symptoms, and pathologies associated with mobile phone use. STUDY DESIGN Systematic review. METHOD In this systematic review, Medline (Pubmed), Wiley, WOS, and EMBASE electronic databases were searched for studies published in English between January 1, 2000 and March 25, 2019 using the following. KEY TERMS: 'mobile phone', 'smartphone', 'musculoskeletal pain', 'pain', 'musculoskeletal symptoms', and 'musculoskeletal pathology'. RESULTS The search strategy identified 196 papers, of which 18 met the inclusion criteria. Among the studies included in the systematic review, five were high quality, twelve were of acceptable quality, and one was of low quality. The review demonstrated that the prevalence of MSK complaints among mobile phone users ranged 8.2%-89.9%, and that neck and upper back complaints had the highest prevalence rates ranging from 55.8% to 89.9%. The most common MSK symptom associated with mobile phone use was pain. Myofascial pain syndrome, fibromyalgia, thoracic outlet syndrome, tendonitis, and De Quervain's syndrome were the most commonly associated MSK pathologies. CONCLUSION The evidence concerning MSK complaints among mobile phone is somewhat limited because the data were obtained from cross-sectional and case-control study results. Consequently, there is need for higher quality and prospective studies to better understand the relationship between mobile phone use and MSK symptoms and pathologies.

Abstract
Background The practice of clinical radiology has become more sedentary in the era of the Picture Archiving and Communication System. Physical inactivity is a well-known risk factor for various chronic diseases. This study aimed to determine the frequency and pattern of physical exercises among radiologists in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia and the association between physical exercises and the prevalence of work-related musculoskeletal symptoms. Methods An online survey was sent to radiologists in all hospitals (academic, public, and private) in the major cities of the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia. It covered information about demographic characteristics and the frequency and pattern of physical exercises. It also included an evaluation of work-related musculoskeletal symptoms using the Nordic Musculoskeletal Questionnaire. This survey of 263 radiologists was conducted in April 2019. The study outcome was the presence of disabling musculoskeletal symptoms in any body region which restricted the performance of normal activities within the last 12 months. The study results were analyzed descriptively using the Chi-square test. Results The survey was completed by 198 participants (111 men and 87 women) with a response rate of 75.3%. Most participants (71.2%) were less than 40 years. Eighty-three men (74.8%) did a physical exercise at least weekly, compared to 45 (51.7%) women. Men were more likely to engage in various physical exercises than women. Overall, 60.9% of participants who did not do any physical exercise regularly (less than monthly) reported having disabling neck pain. This figure was found lower among participants who did physical exercises monthly (45.8%) or at least weekly (32.8%). A similar pattern was observed with shoulder pain, with 45.7% found in participants who did not exercise and only 25.8% in those engaging in physical activities at least weekly. Conclusions Physical inactivity is common among radiologists, especially female ones, in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia. The physical inactivity was significantly associated with work-related musculoskeletal symptoms. Gender-specific health promotion programs are needed to mitigate the negative health outcomes due to the sedentary nature of the radiology current practice.

Abstract
Background Health-related quality of life (HRQoL) is defined as the patient’s perception of their health status. HRQoL can be modified by illnesses, treatments or social and health policies. Chronic musculoskeletal pain is a modifying factor of HRQoL that leads to lower quality of life, elevated suffering and disability. Knowing HRQoL in subjects reporting chronic musculoskeletal symptoms (cMSS), like pain, discomfort or swollenness lasting more than 3 months, will provide information to health teams and organizations engaged in the Chilean health system. This study aim was to determine the relationship between HRQoL and musculoskeletal symptoms measured in three different Chilean groups: [1] without symptoms; [2] with acute symptoms; and [3] with cMSS. Methods A secondary analysis of the 2009–10 Chilean National Health Survey (NHS) was executed to determine the relationship between HRQoL (measured with SF-12) in three MSS groups. The Chilean NHS considered a national, probabilistic, stratified and multistage sample of 5293 participants aged 15 and older; it was representative at the national, urban-rural and regional levels. A multivariate logistic regression model studied the relationship between cMSS and HRQoL, adjusted for age, sex, educational level and residence area as control variables (p < 0.05). Results Out of 5293 participants in the NHS 2009–10, 5276 subjects were included for analysis. The median age was 46 years (IQR 31–60), 59.4% women, a median of 10 years formal education (IQR 7–12) and an urban residence in 85.2% of the population of the NHS 2009–10. The observed population prevalence of people with cMSS was 42.6% (95% CI 40.4–44.9). Presence of cMSS is a risk factor for low HRQoL, exhibited both in the physical (OR 3.1 95% CI 2.7–3.5) and mental (OR 1.9 95% CI 1.6–2,) HRQoL dimensions, independent of control variables. Conclusions Physical and mental HRQoL are affected in people with cMSS, low educational level and advanced age. This is especially seen in women. This information will facilitate assessment and treatment of cMSS as a prevalent and multidimensional health problem.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Evidence is mixed regarding the effect of exercise programs on improving musculoskeletal symptoms and quality of life. Previous meta-analyses have not focused specifically on the musculoskeletal symptoms. Therefore, this meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the effect of exercise on these outcomes in breast cancer survivors taking aromatase inhibitors. METHODS PubMed, CINAHL, EMBASE, Web of Science, Wan Fang, CNKI, VIP, and CBM were searched for randomized control trials or quasi-experimental studies from the establishment of the database to May 2019. Studies comparing exercise programs with usual care among breast cancer survivors taking aromatase inhibitors were included. The primary outcome was the degree of musculoskeletal symptoms, as assessed by scores of pain, stiffness, and grip strength. The secondary outcome was the total quality of life score. RESULTS A total of 9 studies involving 743 participants were included. Exercise programs were more effective than usual care in improving musculoskeletal symptoms among breast cancer patients taking AIs. The subgroup scores of pain (SMD = -0.46, 95% CI -0.79 to -0.13, P = 0.006), stiffness (SMD = -0.40, 95% CI -0.71 to -0.08, P = 0.01), and grip strength (SMD = 0.43, 95% CI 0.16 to 0.71, P = 0.002) benefited from exercise interventions. Similar effects were found for the quality of life scores (SMD = 2.24, 95% CI 0.28 to 4.21, P = 0.03). CONCLUSIONS Results indicate that exercise relieves musculoskeletal symptoms and improves quality of life, which can be used to motivate patients to exercise actively under professional guidance. Due to a small sample size, further research is required to ensure the effectiveness of exercise on musculoskeletal symptoms and quality of life.

Abstract
Lifting equipment can reduce the risk of injury from patient handling, but limited availability and adoption have been a persistent problem. Data from statewide surveys of California nurses (N = 389) in 2013 and 2016 were analyzed to evaluate lift use, perceptions about lifts and injury risk, and musculoskeletal symptoms by type of available lifts. Nurses with ceiling lifts (23%) were significantly more likely to use lifts and had more positive perceptions about lifts, regarding worker safety, patient safety and comfort, ease of use, access, and storing, than nurses with only floor lifts (77%). Nurses with ceiling lifts reported less low back pain and shoulder pain. Our study findings suggest that providing ceiling lifts can result in superior outcomes to floor-based lifts in multiple aspects, including better acceptance and use by nurses for patient handling, as well as being associated with reduced work-related musculoskeletal symptoms in the low back and shoulders.

Abstract
While the prevalence of musculoskeletal disorders has recently increased among Korean workers employed in highly physically and psychologically demanding jobs, the relation among these domains remains relatively unexplored. We examined 2,037 subway workers in Seoul, that collected data via questionnaire survey on musculoskeletal symptoms and the work environment, administered in 2009, 2012, and 2015. Generalized estimating equation (GEE) analysis was used for statistical analysis. After conducting GEE analysis by adjusting for the sociodemographic and occupational characteristics, we found the prevalence of musculoskeletal symptoms significantly increased in cases with high Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scales (DASS) scores compared with low DASS scores, especially on shift workers. An integrated management method that considers ergonomic and mental health factors, should be used to better manage musculoskeletal symptoms in subway workers.

Abstract
Background Musculoskeletal symptoms account for the majority of work-related illnesses resulting in a significant economic burden on society. Computer users are subject to unique repetitive strains that predispose them to musculoskeletal symptoms. In the digitalized field of radiology, radiologists spend long hours interpreting medical images on computers. This study aimed to determine the prevalence of musculoskeletal symptoms among radiologists in Saudi Arabia and their contributing factors. Methods An online survey was sent to radiologists in all hospitals (academic, public and private) in the major cities of the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia covering demographic characteristics, workload (e.g. the time spent at a computer workstation), and workstation environments including the number of monitors as well as the adjustability of the height of the workstation and the viewing distance. This survey of 263 radiologists was conducted in April 2019. It included an evaluation of musculoskeletal symptoms using the Nordic Musculoskeletal Questionnaire. The study outcome was the presence of disabling musculoskeletal symptoms in any body region, which restricted the performance of normal activities in the last 12 months. Results were analyzed descriptively using a Chi-square test and logistic regression analysis to estimate the odd ratio of experiencing disabling musculoskeletal symptoms in the last 12 months. Results The survey was completed by 198 participants (111 men and 87 women) with a response rate of 75.3%. Most participants (71.2%) were aged below 40 years. A multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed being a female radiologist (OR = 2.7; 95% CI: 1.2–6.5), aged 30–39 years (OR = 4.1; 95% CI: 1.1–15.3), and predominantly reviewing computed tomography (CT) images (OR = 4.1; 95% CI: 1.4–12.3) or ultrasound scans (OR = 5.9; 95% CI: 1.4–25.3) were associated with higher prevalence of disabling musculoskeletal symptoms, compared to those aged below 30 years and those who reviewed various imaging modalities, respectively. Conclusions Musculoskeletal symptoms are common among radiologists with lower back and neck pain being the most frequent complaints. Being a female radiologist, aged 30–39 years, and reviewing CT or ultrasound scans were associated with higher rates of disabling musculoskeletal symptoms.

Abstract
Hypophosphatasia (HPP) is an inherited metabolic disorder that causes defective skeletal and dental mineralization. HPP exhibits a markedly heterogeneous range of clinical manifestations caused by dysfunction of the tissue-nonspecific isozyme of alkaline phosphatase (TNSALP), resulting from loss-of-function mutations in the ALPL gene. HPP has been associated with predominantly missense mutations in ALPL, and a number of compound heterozygous genotypes have been identified. Here, we describe a case of a subject with adult-onset HPP caused by a novel combination of missense mutations p.Gly473Ser and p.Ala487Val, resulting in chronic musculoskeletal pain, myopathy, persistent fatigue, vomiting, and an uncommon dental phenotype of short-rooted permanent teeth. Pedigree and biochemical analysis indicated that severity of symptoms was correlated with levels of residual ALP activity, and co-segregated with the p.Gly473Ser missense mutation. Bioinformatic analysis to predict the structural and functional impact of each of the point mutations in the TNSALP molecule, and its potential contribution to the clinical symptoms, revealed that the affected Gly473 residue is localized in the homodimer interface and predicted to have a dominant negative effect. The affected Ala487 residue was predicted to bind to Tyr479, which is closely located the N-terminal α-helix of TNSALP monomer 2, suggesting that both changes may impair dimer stability and catalytic functions. In conclusion, these findings assist in defining genotype-phenotype associations for HPP, and further define specific sites within the TNSALP molecule potentially related to neuromuscular manifestations in adult HPP, allowing for a better understanding of HPP pathophysiology.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Bartonella spp. can cause a variety of diseases, such as lymphadenopathies, cat scratch disease, and trench fever, but can also give rise to many non-specific symptoms. No data exists regarding the prevalence of Bartonella spp. in patients with musculoskeletal complaints, nor among blood donors in Poland. METHODS The presence of anti-Bartonella IgM and IgG in the serum of blood donors (n = 65) (Lodz, Poland) and in the patients of the Department of Rheumatology Clinic (n = 40) suffering from musculoskeletal symptoms was tested by immunofluorescence. Blood samples were cultured on enriched media. Epidemiological questionnaires were used to identify key potential risk factors, such as sex, age, contact with companion animals, and bites from insects or animals. RESULTS Altogether, 27 of the 105 tested subjects were seropositive for Bartonella henselae IgG (23%) and three for Bartonella quintana IgG (2.85%); IgMs against B. henselae were found in three individuals (2.85%), and IgMs against B. quintana were found in one (1.54%). No statistically significant difference was found between the prevalence of B. henselae in the blood of donors or patients and the presence of unexplained musculoskeletal complaints (23% vs 30%). Individuals who had kept or been scratched by cats were not more likely to be B. henselae seropositive (p > 0.01). Tick bites were more commonly reported in patients, but insignificantly (p > 0.01). CONCLUSION This is the first report of a high seroprevalence of anti-Bartonella IgG in patients with musculoskeletal symptoms and in blood donors in Poland. The obtained results indicate that such seroprevalence may have a possible significance in the development of musculoskeletal symptoms, although it should be confirmed on a larger group of patients. Asymptomatic bacteremia might occur and pose a threat to recipients of blood from infected donors. Hence, there is a need for more detailed research, including molecular biology methods, to clarify the potential risk of Bartonella spp. being spread to immunocompromised individuals. KEY POINTS • This is the first study presenting high seroprevalence of Bartonella spp. in Poland. • IgG and IgM antibodies against B. quintana were found in blood samples of blood donors.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The emergency department is a highly demanding work environment, considered by high workload and stress. The impact of work-related factors on musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) in emergency nurses (ENs) are not yet well understood. We investigated the association of MSDs and workload with work schedule (permanent day and night work) and job satisfaction in ENs. METHOD Data were collected through a questionnaire including individual and work-related factors, workload (National Aeronautics and Space Administration-Task Load Index [NASA-TLX]) and MSDs (Standardized Nordic Questionnaire) from 380 ENs in five hospitals. RESULTS The findings revealed that work schedule and job satisfaction levels were significantly associated with the MSDs in different body regions. Work schedule was significantly related to physical demand, performance, frustration, and overall workload, whereas it was not to the mental and temporal demands and effort. Job satisfaction level was negatively associated with mental demand and frustration. A high prevalence of musculoskeletal problems, particularly in knees, upper back, lower back, neck and shoulders were found. CONCLUSION MSDs are highly prevalent among ENs involved in night work and with low job satisfaction levels. The results are discussed in terms of their implications for emergency hospital nurses. The findings can help to better understand the working conditions and emphasize the need for ergonomic interventions in order to reduce MSDs and workload. Also, the study findings highlight the importance of mental aspects of workload in this occupational group.

Abstract
We examined the association of musculoskeletal symptoms (MSS) with workplace sitting, standing and stepping time, as well as sitting and standing time accumulation (i.e. usual bout duration of these activities), measured objectively with the activPAL3 monitor. Using baseline data from the Stand Up Victoria trial (216 office workers, 14 workplaces), cross-sectional associations of occupational activities with self-reported MSS (low-back, upper and lower extremity symptoms in the last three months) were examined using probit regression, correcting for clustering and adjusting for confounders. Sitting bout duration was significantly (p < 0.05) associated, non-linearly, with MSS, such that those in the middle tertile displayed the highest prevalence of upper extremity symptoms. Other associations were non-significant but sometimes involved large differences in symptom prevalence (e.g. 38%) by activity. Though causation is unclear, these non-linear associations suggest that sitting and its alternatives (i.e. standing and stepping) interact with MSS and this should be considered when designing safe work systems. Practitioner summary: We studied associations of objectively assessed occupational activities with musculoskeletal symptoms in office workers. Workers who accumulated longer sitting bouts reported fewer upper extremity symptoms. Total activity duration was not significantly associated with musculoskeletal symptoms. We underline the importance of considering total volumes and patterns of activity time in musculoskeletal research.

Abstract
Background Work-related musculoskeletal disorders are a significant concern for public health, leading to temporary and permanent disability. Health care workers, including nurses, are at high risk for these disorders. This study aimed to assess the health-promoting lifestyles of nurses and their association with musculoskeletal disorders and symptoms. Methods This study explored health-promoting lifestyles and their association with musculoskeletal symptoms in nurses. In this cross-sectional study, a total of 300 nurses working in the teaching hospitals affiliated with Shiraz University of Medical Sciences (SUMS), were selected using systematic random sampling. Data were collected by two questionnaires, the Health-promoting Lifestyle Profile (HPLP) and the Nordic Musculoskeletal Questionnaire (NMQ). Results Study findings showed that 47% of the study participants had a moderate level lifestyle. In terms of musculoskeletal symptoms, the most prevalent were reported in the back (88.33%), knees (83.33%), and thighs (71%). Moreover, Pearson correlation analysis revealed significant negative correlations between eating habits and musculoskeletal symptoms and interpersonal relations, while a significant positive correlation was found between nutrition and stress management with musculoskeletal symptoms. Conclusion Lifestyle variables are a good predictor for nurses’ musculoskeletal symptoms. Therefore, knowledge of health-promoting lifestyle behaviors and practice of these behaviors are necessary to reduce musculoskeletal disorders among nurses.

Abstract
PURPOSE OF REVIEW To (1) explain what yoga is, (2) summarize published literature on the efficacy of yoga for managing cancer treatment-related toxicities, (3) provide clinical recommendations on the use of yoga for oncology professionals, and (4) suggest promising areas for future research. RECENT FINDINGS Based on a total of 24 phase II and one phase III clinical trials, low-intensity forms of yoga, specifically gentle hatha and restorative, are feasible, safe, and effective for treating sleep disruption, cancer-related fatigue, cognitive impairment, psychosocial distress, and musculoskeletal symptoms in cancer patients receiving chemotherapy and radiation and cancer survivors. Clinicians should consider prescribing yoga for their patients suffering with these toxicities by referring them to qualified yoga professionals. More definitive phase III clinical trials are needed to confirm these findings and to investigate other types, doses, and delivery modes of yoga for treating cancer-related toxicities in patients and survivors.

Abstract
Fabry disease, a lysosomal storage disorder, is a rare inborn error of metabolism caused by deficiency of the enzyme alpha galactosidase A and resulting accumulation of globotriaosylceramide. The symptoms of Fabry disease are heterogeneous including renal failure, cardiac hypertrophy, and stroke and may not be well recognized by non-specialist physicians. Patients with milder, later onset of disease often have a delay in diagnosis.Fabry patients may suffer significant neuropathic pain in the extremities (acroparasthesia) but the degree to which musculoskeletal symptoms contribute to total pain and disability is unknown. Here, we present a questionnaire study focusing on joint manifestations and their impact on daily life of patients with Fabry disease.Seventy-seven patients with Fabry disease and age-matched healthy controls (49 female and 28 male) took part in a survey focused on joint problems, pain, disability, and quality of life. Joint pain and swelling were reported by 43% of male and 39% of female Fabry patients. Analysis by age group showed higher prevalence of joint problems and decreased quality of life, in terms of mobility, activity, pain, and anxiety, in Fabry patients younger than 50 years compared to healthy controls. Female Fabry patients had higher fatigue scores compared to control subjects. Fabry patients reported problems with vigorous daily activities and gripping.Musculoskeletal symptoms are common in Fabry patients and contribute to overall pain and decreased quality of life. Awareness of Fabry disease by physicians may be raised to ensure timely diagnosis of this rare disease.

Abstract
PURPOSE Although individual studies have reported high prevalence of musculoskeletal symptoms (MSS) among construction workers, no systematic review has summarized their prevalence rates. Accordingly, this systematic review/meta-analysis aimed to synthesize MSS prevalence in different construction trades, gender and age groups, which may help develop specific ergonomic interventions. METHODS Nine databases were searched for articles related to the research objective. Two reviewers independently screened citations, extracted information and conducted quality assessment of the included studies. Meta-analyses were conducted on clinical and statistical homogenous data. RESULTS Thirty-five out of 1130 potential citations were included reporting diverse types of period prevalence and case definitions. Only the 1-year prevalence rates of MSS (defined as at least one episode of pain/MSS in the last year) at nine anatomical regions had sufficient homogeneous data for meta-analysis. Specifically, the 1-year prevalence of MSS was 51.1% for lower back, 37.2% for knee, 32.4% for shoulder, 30.4% for wrist, 24.4% for neck, 24.0% for ankle/foot, 20.3% for elbow, 19.8% for upper back, and 15.1% for hip/thigh. Female workers demonstrated a higher prevalence of MSS while there was insufficient information on the prevalence of trade-specific or age-related MSS. The quality assessments revealed that many included studies estimated prevalence solely based on self-reported data, and did not report non-respondents' characteristics. CONCLUSIONS Lumbar, knee, shoulder, and wrist MSS are the most common symptoms among construction workers. Future studies should standardize the reporting of period prevalence of MSS in different construction trades to allow meta-analyses and to develop relevant MSS prevention program.

Abstract
While prolonged standing has shown to be detrimentally associated with musculoskeletal symptoms, exposure limits and underlying mechanisms are not well understood. We systematically reviewed evidence from laboratory studies on musculoskeletal symptom development during prolonged (≥20min) uninterrupted standing, quantified acute dose-response associations and described underlying mechanisms. Peer-reviewed articles were systematically searched for. Data from included articles were tabulated, and dose-response associations were statistically pooled. A linear interpolation of pooled dose-response associations was performed to estimate the duration of prolonged standing associated with musculoskeletal symptoms with a clinically relevant intensity of ≥9 (out of 100). We included 26 articles (from 25 studies with 591 participants), of which the majority examined associations of prolonged standing with low back and lower extremity symptoms. Evidence on other (e.g., upper limb) symptoms was limited and inconsistent. Pooled dose-response associations showed that clinically relevant levels of low back symptoms were reached after 71min of prolonged standing, with this shortened to 42min in those considered pain developers. Regarding standing-related low back symptoms, consistent evidence was found for postural mechanisms (i.e., trunk flexion and lumbar curvature), but not for mechanisms of muscle fatigue and/or variation in movement. Blood pooling was the most consistently reported mechanism for standing-related lower extremity symptoms. Evidence suggests a detrimental association of prolonged standing with low back and lower extremity symptoms. To avoid musculoskeletal symptoms (without having a-priori knowledge on whether someone will develop symptoms or not), dose-response evidence from this study suggests a recommendation to refrain from standing for prolonged periods >40min. Interventions should also focus on underlying pain mechanisms.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To assess the prevalence and describe the clinical, laboratory and radiological findings, treatment and outcome of children with cancer initially referred to a tertiary outpatient pediatric rheumatology clinic. METHODS Retrospective analysis of medical records from patients identified in a list of 250 new patients attending the tertiary Pediatric Rheumatology Clinic, Ribeirão Preto Medical School hospital, University of São Paulo, from July 2013 to July 2015, whose final diagnosis was cancer. RESULTS Of 250 patients seen during the study period, 5 (2%) had a cancer diagnosis. Among them, 80% had constitutional symptoms, especially weight loss and asthenia, and 60% had arthritis. Initially, all patients had at least one alteration in their blood count, lactate dehydrogenase was increased in 80% and a bone marrow smear was conclusive in 60% of patients. Bone and intestine biopsies were necessary for the diagnosis in 2 patients. JIA was the most common initial diagnosis. The definitive diagnosis was acute lymphoblastic leukemia (2 patients), M3 acute myeloid leukemia, lymphoma, and neuroblastoma (one case each). Of 5 patients studied, 3 (60%) are in remission and 2 (40%) died, one of them with prior use of steroids. CONCLUSION The constitutional and musculoskeletal symptoms common to rheumatic and neoplastic diseases can delay the diagnosis and consequently worsen the prognosis of neoplasms. Initial blood count and bone marrow smear may be normal in the initial framework of neoplasms. Thus, the clinical follow-up of these cases becomes imperative and the treatment, mainly with corticosteroids, should be delayed until diagnostic definition.

Abstract
Background The prevalence of effort-reward imbalance (ERI) among qualified childcare workers in Germany is currently estimated at around 65%. High rates of burnout and musculoskeletal symptoms (MS) have also been reported for this group. Previous longitudinal studies show inconsistent results with regard to the association between ERI and MS. As yet, no longitudinal studies have been conducted to investigate the association between ERI and burnout or MS in childcare workers. This study aims to investigate the extent to which a relationship between ERI and MS or burnout can be observed in childcare workers in Germany on a longitudinal basis. Methods In 2014 childcare workers (N = 199, response rate: 57%) of a provider of facilities for children and youth in Hamburg were asked about stress and health effects in the workplace. Follow-up was completed one year later (N = 106, follow-up rate: 53%) For the baseline assessment, ERI was determined as the primary influencing factor. Data on MS was recorded using the Nordic questionnaire, and burnout using the personal burnout scale of the Copenhagen Burnout Inventory (CBI). The statistical analysis was carried out using multivariate linear and logistic regression. Results At baseline ERI was present in 65% of the sample population. The mean burnout score at the time of follow-up was 53.7 (SD: 20.7); the prevalence of MS was between 19% and 62%. ERI was identified as a statistically significant factor for MS, after adjusting especially for physical stress (lower back: OR 4.2; 95% CI: 1.14 to 15.50, neck: OR 4.3; 95% CI: 1.25 to 15.0, total MS: OR 4.0; 95% CI: 1.20 to 13.49). With regard to burnout, a relative increase of 10% in the ERI ratio score increased the burnout score by 1.1 points (p = 0.034). Conclusions ERI was revealed to be a major factor in relation to MS and burnout in childcare workers. Based on this observation worksite interventions on the individual and organizational level should be introduced in order to prevent ERI. Abstract
Background Manual handling operations (MHO) are known to be risk factors for work-related upper limb disorders (WRULDs), e.g. symptoms and conditions such as carpal tunnel syndrome. To estimate the risk of WRULDs, a Key Indicator Method (KIM) for the risk assessment of MHO was developed. The method was validated in regard to different criteria, including face validity, criterion validity, reliability and further aspects concerning utility. This paper describes the KIM-MHO and criterion validity of this method with reference to prevalence of musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs). Methods A cross-sectional sample of 643 employees exposed to MHO was compared to a reference group of 804 unexposed subjects predominantly working at visual display terminals. The Nordic Questionnaire and a standardized clinical examination were used to obtain the 7-day and 12-months prevalence of symptoms and clinical conditions of the musculoskeletal system. Job specific exposure levels to MHO were assessed by ergonomists using the KIM-MHO. The resulting risk scores were categorized into risk categories 1 - low risk (reference group), 2 - increased risk, 3 - highly increased risk, and 4 - high risk. Log-linear Poisson regression models were applied to obtain adjusted prevalence ratios (PR) with 95%-confidence intervals. Results The 7-day prevalence of symptoms for subjects in risk category 3 compared to risk category 1 was significant for the regions shoulder [women (w): PR 1.8 (1.2–2.7), men (m): PR 2.3 (1.2–4.4)], elbow [w: PR 3.3 (1.5–7.2), m: PR 2.4 (0.8–7.3)], and hand/wrist [w: PR 3.0 (1.7–5.3), m: PR 5.5 (2.7–11.3)]. The 7-day prevalence of symptoms for risk category 4 was also significant for the regions shoulder [w: PR 1.9 (1.3–2.8), m: PR 1.9 (1.3–2.7)], elbow [w: PR 4.5 (2.3–8.7), m: PR 3.3 (2.1–5.4)], and hand/wrist [w: PR 4.2 (2.6–6.9), m: PR 5.5 (3.5–8.5)]. The 12-months prevalence in these joint regions show comparable increases in the risk categories 3 and 4. Conclusions The KIM-MHO is valid in regard to criterion validity. The hypothesis could be confirmed, that high risk scores were associated with an increased prevalence of symptoms and clinical conditions especially in the shoulder, elbow and hand/wrist regions among employees exposed to MHO. Abstract
PURPOSE Previous studies have suggested that musculoskeletal symptoms are common among practicing otolaryngologists. Early training can be the ideal time to foster knowledge of ergonomics and develop safe work habits, however, little data exists regarding musculoskeletal symptoms in residents. The purpose of this study was to identify and characterize musculoskeletal symptoms in a preliminary sample of otolaryngology residents. MATERIALS AND METHODS A cross-sectional survey incorporating the Nordic Musculoskeletal Questionnaire was sent to 30 Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery residencies to examine musculoskeletal symptoms among residents. A two-sample test of proportions was performed to compare symptoms between male and female residents. RESULTS In total, 141 respondents (response rate=34.7%) completed the survey. Fifty-five percent of survey respondents were male and 45% were female. Musculoskeletal symptoms were most frequently reported in the neck (82.3%), followed by the lower back (56%), upper back (40.4%), and shoulders (40.4%). The most common symptoms were stiffness in the neck (71.6%), pain in the neck (61.7%), and pain in the lower back (48.2%). In total, 6.4% of residents missed work and 16.3% of residents stopped during an operation at some point due to their symptoms. Most residents (88.3%) believed their musculoskeletal symptoms were attributed to their surgical training. Female residents were significantly more likely to experience neck (p<0.0001) and wrist/hand (p=0.019) discomfort compared to male residents. CONCLUSIONS Musculoskeletal symptoms were common among residents, approaching rates similar to those previously identified in practicing otolaryngologists. Increased emphasis on surgical ergonomics is warranted to improve workplace safety and prevent future injury.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Sedentary work is associated with many adverse health outcomes, and sit-stand workstations in offices have emerged as a way to counteract sedentary work. OBJECTIVE This paper reviews the existing knowledge on sit-stand workstations, treadmill workstations and bicycle workstations. METHODS The inclusion/exclusion criteria were: 1) empirical research examining the effectiveness of sit-stand workstations in lab or field studies, 2) working adult population, 3) sit-stand workstation interventions where workers performed the same task from a seated or standing position, 4) outcomes measures of discomfort (comfort), performance, sit-stand behaviors, user satisfaction, kinematic and physiological measures. Search terms were: sit-stand, treadmill, bicycle, workstations, sedentary behavior, office ergonomics, and comfort. RESULTS Many studies considered productivity, comfort and physiological measures as important outcomes to assess the efficacy of sit-stand workstations and the experimental design was variable. Preliminary data suggests that some amount of standing during an 8-hour workday could be beneficial without compromising user comfort or productivity; however, there is very little data on the efficacy of treadmill and bicycle workstations. CONCLUSIONS Based on these preliminary data from 26 studies, conducting large scale randomized controlled trials with ergonomic training as their essential component is recommended to understand the benefits of sit-stand workstations for prevention of sedentary work.

Abstract
PURPOSE New onset symptoms on adjuvant aromatase inhibitors for hormone receptor positive early breast cancer may associate with clinical outcomes. We performed this exploratory analysis of the association of new onset musculoskeletal (MSK) and vasomotor (VM) symptoms with clinical outcomes in the NCIC CTG MA.17 trial 5 years of extended adjuvant endocrine therapy with letrozole after tamoxifen. METHODS Symptoms were collected at baseline, 1, 6, and every 12 months on study. Multivariate Cox Models adjusting for age, nodal status, duration of tamoxifen and prior chemotherapy were used to compare disease-free survival (DFS), distant disease-free survival (DDFS), and overall survival (OS) based on data collected before, and after, the unblinding between women with VM or MSK symptoms and those without. RESULTS Data post-unblinding showed new VM symptoms on extended letrozole significantly improved DFS and DDFS when occurring 1 month (DFS HR 0.52, 95% CI, 0.28-0.96; p = 0.04; DDFS HR 0.49, 95% CI, 0.24-0.99; p = 0.046) and 6 months (DFS HR 0.43, 95% CI, 0.24-0.78; p = 0.006; DDFS HR 0.44, 95% CI, 0.22-0.85; p = 0.02) after treatment initiation. Those with new VM symptoms at 12 months also had a significantly better DFS (HR 0.47, 95% CI 0.26, 0.84; P = 0.01) and a trend in improved DDFS. Only a trend to improved OS was found for those with VM symptoms 6 month after treatment. No significant improvement was found for those with new MSK symptoms at any time point or for any endpoint. CONCLUSIONS New onset VM symptoms with extended letrozole may be useful in predicting treatment benefit.

Abstract
The research aims to address the physically loading task and quality and productivity problems in the brazing of coils of air-handler units. Eight operators participated in two intervention studies conducted in a factory in Malaysia to compare the status quo brazing with (1) the use of a new twin-brazing torch that replaced the single-brazing gun and (2) brazing in a sitting position. The outcome measures are related to quality, productivity, monetary costs, body postures and symptoms. After baseline, Interventions I and II were applied for 3 months respectively. The results show a 58.9% quality improvement, 140% productivity increase and 113 times ROI. There was also a reduction in poor work postures e.g. in the raising of the arms and shoulders; bending, twisting and extending of the neck; and bending of left and right wrists, and the back. This research can be replicated in other factories that share similar processes.
