Abstract
Two bench-stable Fe(II) alkyl complexes [Fe(κ3PCP-PCP-iPr)(CO)2(R)] (R = CH2CH2CH3, CH3) were obtained by the treatment of [Fe(κ3PCP-PCP-iPr)(CO)2(H)] with NaNH2 and subsequent addition of CH3CH2CH2Br and CH3I, respectively. The reaction proceeds via the anionic Fe(0) intermediate Na[Fe(κ3PCP-PCP-iPr)(CO)2]. The catalytic performance of both alkyl complexes was investigated for the transfer hydrogenation of terminal and internal alkynes utilizing PhSiH3 and iPrOH as a hydrogen source. Precatalyst activation is initiated by migration of the alkyl ligand to the carbonyl C atom of an adjacent CO ligand. In agreement with previous findings, the rate of alkyl migration follows the order nPr > Me. Accordingly, [Fe(κ3PCP-PCP-iPr)(CO)2(CH2CH2CH3)] is the more active catalyst. The reaction takes place at 25 °C with a catalyst loading of 0.5 mol%. There was no overhydrogenation, and in the case of internal alkynes, exclusively, Z-alkenes are formed. The implemented protocol tolerates a variety of electron-donating and electron-withdrawing functional groups including halides, nitriles, unprotected amines, and heterocycles. Mechanistic investigations including deuterium labeling studies and DFT calculations were undertaken to provide a reasonable reaction mechanism.

Abstract
The chemo- and stereoselective semi-hydrogenation of alkynes to alkenes is a fundamental transformation in synthetic chemistry, for which the use of precious 4d or 5d metal catalysts is well-established. In mankind's unwavering quest for sustainability, research focus has considerably veered towards the 3d metals. Given their high abundancy and availability as well as lower toxicity and noxiousness, they are undoubtedly attractive from both an economic and an environmental perspective. Herein, we wish to present noteworthy and groundbreaking examples for the use of 3d metal catalysts for diastereoselective alkyne semi-hydrogenation as we embark on a journey through the first-row transition metals.

Abstract
The bis-NHC–Ag/Pd(OAc)2 catalytic system (NHC = N-heterocyclic carbene), a combination of bis-NHC–Ag complex and Pd(OAc)2, was found to be a smart catalyst in the Pd-catalyzed transfer hydrogenation of various functionalized arenes and internal/terminal alkynes. The catalytic system demonstrated high efficiency for the reduction of a wide range of various functional groups such as carbonyls, alkynes, olefins, and nitro groups in good to excellent yields and high chemoselectivity for the reduction of functional groups. In addition, the protocol was successfully exploited to stereoselectivity for the transformation of alkynes to alkenes in aqueous media under air. This methodology successfully provided an alternative useful protocol for reducing various functional groups and a simple operational protocol for transfer hydrogenation.

Abstract
We report a transition-metal-free trans-selective semireduction of alkynes with pinacolborane and catalytic potassium tert-butoxide. A variety of 3-substituted primary and secondary propiolamides, including an analog of FK866, a potent nicotinamide mononucleotide adenyltransferase (NMNAT) inhibitor, are reduced to the corresponding (E)-3-substituted acrylamide derivatives in up to 99% yield with >99:1 E/Z selectivity. Mechanistic studies suggest that an activated Lewis acid-base complex transfers a hydride to the α-carbon followed by rapid protonation in a trans fashion.

Abstract
The formation of ferrocenyl-functionalized iron and cobalt carbonyl clusters is reported, based on a reaction of FcPCl2 (3) (Fc = Fe(η5-C5H5)(η5-C5H4)) with Fe2(CO)9 and Co2(CO)8, respectively. Therein, nido-Fe3(CO)9(μ3-PFc)2 (4) and nido-Co4(CO)10(μ3-PFc)2 (5) clusters were obtained as the first diferrocenyl-substituted carbonyl clusters with a symmetrical cluster core. Cluster 4 shows two reversible one-electron processes within the anodic region, based on Fc/Fc+ redox events, as well as two processes in the cathodic region. In situ IR and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) measurements of all electronic states confirmed an Fc-based oxidation and a core-based reduction. On the basis of the results of a single-crystal X-ray analysis of structures of 4 and 5, computational studies of the highest occupied molecular orbital-lowest unoccupied molecular orbital energies, the spin density, quantum theory of atom-in-molecule delocalization indices, and the atomic charges were performed to explain the experimental results. The latter revealed a reorganization of the cluster core upon reduction and the existence of weak P···P interactions in 4 and 5. Ferrocenyl-related redox processes, occurring reversibly in case of 4, were absent for 5, due to a different distribution of the HOMO energies. EPR measurements furthermore confirmed the core-based radical anion and the formation of a decomposition product at potentials lower than [M]2- (M = Fe, Co).

Abstract
A ligand-promoted iridium-catalyzed transfer hydrogenation of terminal alkynes with ethanol and its application has been developed. Highly chemical selectivity control is achieved based on ligand regulation. 1,2-Bis(diphenylphosphino)ethane was found to be critical for the transfer hydrogenation of alkynes. The general applicability of this procedure is highlighted by the synthesis of 30 terminal alkenes with a good yield. In addition, we conducted drug effect studies of phenelzine using zebrafish as the vertebrate model. Phenelzine shows a significant effect on promoting vascular proliferation and inhibiting nerve growth. The results of these studies have an important reference value for promoting drug research in cerebrovascular diseases, epilepsy, mania, and psychosis.

Abstract
The stereoselective hydrogenation of alkynes constitutes one of the key approaches for the construction of stereodefined alkenes. The majority of conventional methods utilize noble and toxic metal catalysts. This study concerns a simple catalyst comprised of the commercial chemicals iron(II) acetylacetonate and diisobutylaluminum hydride, which enables the Z-selective semihydrogenation of alkynes under near ambient conditions (1-3 bar H2 , 30 °C, 5 mol % [Fe]). Neither an elaborate catalyst preparation nor addition of ligands is required. Mechanistic studies (kinetic poisoning, X-ray absorption spectroscopy, TEM) strongly indicate the operation of small iron clusters and particle catalysts.

Abstract
A porous organic polymer (POL-Xantphos) was synthesized and employed as a heterogeneous ligand for selective hydrosilylation of alkynes. It exhibits high selectivity and catalytic efficiency toward a broad range of alkynes. Owing to the confinement effect of the micropore structure, POL-Xantphos was far superior to the monomeric Xantphos ligands in controlling the selectivity. By performing hydrosilylation in a flow reactor system, separation and regeneration of the Ni/POL-Xantphos catalyst are easily achieved without any loss in selectivity or activity.

Abstract
The most commonly used method for the formation of well-defined iron and iron-containing heterometallic nanoparticles is the thermal decomposition of iron pentacarbonyl (Fe(CO)5). However, iron pentacarbonyl is highly toxic and volatile, which introduces safety concerns and drastically diminishes control over the reaction stoichiometry. Here we alleviate these issues by beginning with an easy-to-handle solid, triiron dodecacarbonyl (Fe3(CO)12). The issue of poor solubility of this cluster is addressed by its reaction with amine, which renders the cluster fully soluble in common high boiling point solvents. This reaction generates non-volatile anionic iron carbonyl species in solution which are subsequently used as the nanoparticle precursor. We demonstrate that the thermolysis of this novel precursor solution yields well-defined Fe, Fe1-xCox, and Fe1-xPtx nanoparticles. In addition, the same approach overcomes the solubility issue of another poorly soluble iron carbonyl compound, diiron nonacarbonyl (Fe2(CO)9). By using these precursors in an array of nanoparticle-forming reactions, we demonstrate a convenient replacement for the commonly used Fe(CO)5, producing particles of similar quality, but without the drawbacks of the precursor volatility and high toxicity.

Abstract
The highly regioselective iron-catalyzed formal hydrofunctionalization of styrene derivatives with a diverse range of electrophiles has been developed using a single, operationally simple hydromagnesiation procedure and only commercially available, bench-stable reagents. Using just 0.5 mol % FeCl2·4H2O and N,N,N',N'-tetramethylethylenediamine, hydromagnesiation and electrophilic trapping have been used to form new carbon-carbon bonds (13 examples) and carbon-heteroatom bonds (5 examples) including the products of formal cross-coupling reactions, hydroboration, hydroamination, hydrosilylation, and hydrofluorination.

Abstract
The reaction of (β-phenylethynyl)pentafluorocyclotriphosphazene, [(PhC≡C)(F)PN](PNF2)2, with Fe2(CO)9 in refluxing hexane resulted in five new compounds, namely, [Fe(CO)2{η(2):η(2)-2,4-(P3N3F5)2Ph2C4Fe(CO)3}-μ-CO] (1), [Fe(CO)2{η(2):η(2)-2,5-(P3N3F5)2Ph2C4Fe(CO)3}-μ-CO] (2), [Fe(CO)2{η(5)-2,5-(P3N3F5)2Ph2C4CO}C(Ph)═C(P3N3F5)](3), [Fe(CO)3{η(2):η(2)-2,4-(P3N3F5)2Ph2C4CO] (4), and [Fe(CO)3{η(2):η(2)-2,5-(P3N3F5)2Ph2C4CO] (5). While compounds 1, 2, 4, and 5 have five-membered ferracyclopentadiene or cyclopentadienone rings coordinated to the Fe(CO)3 unit in the η(2):η(2) mode, compound 3 has a 2,5-cyclopentadienone ring attached to an Fe(CO)2(P3N3F5)C═C(Ph) unit, where Fe is η(5)-bonded to the cyclopentadienone ring, and the carbon that is α to the phenyl unit of the Fe(CO)2(P3N3F5)C═C(Ph) group is σ-bonded to the oxygen atom of the cyclopentadienone ring. Formation of five-membered cyclic compounds having two fluorophosphazene units on the vicinal carbon atoms of C4R2R'2Y rings was not observed in this reaction. No examples of Fe(CO)3-bound cyclobutadiene complexes were also isolated from this reaction. A similar reaction in the presence of trimethylamine N-oxide, NMe3O, was found to proceed at -20 °C with the formation of compounds 4 and 5 only. In contrast to the Fe2(CO)9 reaction, a reaction of alkyne-derived pentafluorocyclotriphosphazenes, [(RC≡C)(F)PN](PNF2)2 [R = Ph, Fe(C5H5)2] with the molybdenum complex Cp(CO)3Mo-Mo(CO)3Cp (Cp = cyclopentadienyl) in refluxing toluene resulted in the simple tetrahedral clusters Cp(CO)2Mo(P3N3F5)C-C(Ph)Mo(CO)2Cp (6) and Cp(CO)2Mo(P3N3F5)C-C(Fc)Mo(CO)2Cp (7) (Fc = ferrocenyl). A similar reaction of Cp(CO)3Mo-Mo(CO)3Cp with butadiyne-derived fluorophosphazenes, [(RC≡C-C≡C)(F)PN](PNF2)2 [R = Ph, Fe(C5H5)2], yielded the tetrahedral clusters Cp(CO)2Mo(P3N3F5)C-C(C≡CPh)Mo(CO)2Cp (8) and Cp(CO)2Mo(P3N3F5)C-C(C≡CFc)Mo(CO)2Cp (9) with the tetrahedral Mo2C2 unit forming exclusively with the alkyne unit of the butadiyne group bound to the cyclophosphazene ring. The crystal structures and infrared spectral data of these molybdenum clusters showed the presence of a semibridging carbonyl on one of the molybdenum units. All new compounds were characterized by IR, NMR [(1)H, (13)C{(1)H}, (31)P{(1)H}, and (19)F{(1)H}] and high-resolution mass spectrometry studies. Compounds 2, 3, 5, and 7-9 were also structurally characterized using single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies.

Abstract
An operationally simple and environmentally benign formal hydrogenation protocol has been developed using highly abundant iron(iii) salts and an inexpensive, bench stable, stoichiometric reductant, NaBH4, in ethanol, under ambient conditions. This reaction has been applied to the reduction of terminal alkenes (22 examples, up to 95% yield) and nitro-groups (26 examples, up to 95% yield). Deuterium labelling studies indicate that this reaction proceeds via an ionic rather than radical mechanism.

Abstract
A highly stereoselective and efficient transition-metal-free semihydrogenation of internal alkynes to E-alkenes using cheap and green water as hydrogen donor is described. The reactions are conducted under convenient conditions and provide products in good to excellent yields, with broad substrate scope, including a variety of diarylalkynes.
