Abstract
Unregulated discharge of antibiotics in waterbodies has posed a significant threat to the aquatic flora and fauna in post-pandemic times. This alarming situation has ascertained the need for suitable sensors to detect persistent antibiotic residues. In this context, functional hybrid materials centralized on reticular metal-organic frameworks (MOFs)/composites have been a research hot spot for photoelectrochemical host-guest recognition events over the past two decades. The unique amalgamation of the robust framework, ease of synthesis, and tunable photophysical properties complemented with in silico approaches render these materials highly promising for recognition events over other contemporaries. The present review provides a critical analysis of the state-of-the-art advancement of MOFs along with their allied composites toward the detection of targeted amino-drug residues (nitrofurazone, norfloxacin, ciprofloxacin, tetracycline, acetaminophen) within the last quinquennial period (approximately 2019-2024). Detection of the targeted drug residues by electrochemical and fluorometric pathways and their host-guest mechanistic pathways have been precisely described. Additionally, different functionalization methods and luminescence strategies with their structural viewpoint have been concisely summarized. Moreover, we delve into the futuristic possibility of integrating artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) for better quantification of antibiotics. Finally, the unmet challenges and future research directions of the current research strategies have been outlined for automatic ML (AutoML) assisted next-generation POCT device fabrication.

Abstract
Lomefloxacin hydrochloride (LMFX) and sodium salicylate (SS) are important targets for real-time detection due to their widespread uses in daily life; accurate and portable monitoring of LMFX and SS is crucial for human health concerns accordingly. Developing a precise and smart platform for determination of the above analytes remains a significant challenge. Herein, a high-sensitivity platform incorporating a luminescence electrospinning film, self-designed smart-phone app, and portable 3D printing device has been developed to identify LMFX and SS. In this work, two heterometallic coordination polymers with two-dimensional layer structures have been synthesized based on 2,2'-oxidiacetic acid ligand (H2oda), namely, [LnPb(oda)2(CH3COO)]n [Ln = Eu (IMU-1); Tb (IMU-2)]. IMU-1 and IMU-2 were ratio-dependent luminescence probes, which could selectively and sensitively sense with LMFX and SS, respectively. Additionally, the synthesized electrospinning films incorporating IMU-1 and IMU-2 were employed to identify LMFX and SS. Both films could rapidly photograph and color-capture through a portable 3D printing device, along with a self-designed smart-phone app that enabled convenient and quick determination of the concentrations of the above analytes. Remarkably, the mechanism exploration indicated that electron transfer from ligands to analytes affected the antenna effect and further utilized the intrinsic luminescence of analytes along with the luminescence quenching of Ln3+ ions. Furthermore, a strategy for constructing ratio-based fluorescent probes by exploiting the luminescence of analytes and Ln3+ ions in host coordination polymers is proposed. This work provides a new insight by combining luminescence probes, portable devices, and a smart-phone app for real-time detection of drugs and food additives.

Abstract
The photoluminescent properties of lanthanide complexes have been thoroughly investigated; however, there have been much fewer studies showcasing their potential use in ionizing radiation detection. In this work, we delve into the photo- and radio-induced luminescence of a series of lanthanide-bearing organic-inorganic hybrids and their potential as a platform for X-ray scintillation and imaging. The judicious synergy between lanthanide cations and 2,6-di(1H-pyrazol-1-yl)isonicotinate (bppCOO-) ligands affords six new materials with three distinct structures. Notably, Eu-bppCOO-1 and Tb-bppCOO-2 display sharp fingerprint X-ray-excited luminescence (XEL), the intensities of which can be linearly correlated with the X-ray dose rates over a broad dynamic range (0.007-4.55 mGy s-1). Moreover, the X-ray sensing efficacies of Eu-bppCOO-1 and Tb-bppCOO-2 were evaluated, showing that Tb-bppCOO-2 features a lower detection limit of 4.06 μGy s-1 compared to 14.55 μGy s-1 of Eu-bppCOO-1. Given the higher X-ray sensitivity and excellent radiation stability of Tb-bppCOO-2, we fabricated a flexible scintillator film for X-ray imaging by embedding finely ground Tb-bppCOO-2 in the polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) polymer. The resulting scintillator film can be utilized for high-resolution X-ray imaging with a spatial resolution of approximately 7 lp mm-1.

Abstract
Adenosine triphosphate (ATP) is a small molecule that is released to the urine from bladder urothelial cells and the bladder mucosal band of the human body. In certain cases, ATP can serve as a biomarker in bladder disease. For the practical applicability of luminescent sensors for ATP in urine, it is significant to find a new strategy for making the detection progress simple and available for in-field urine analysis. Here, a novel luminescent lanthanide coordination polymer (Tb-BPA) was designed and synthesized for quick and sensitive detection of ATP through luminescence quenching with a quenching constant of 4.90 × 103 M-1 and a detection limit of 0.55 × 10-6 M. Besides, Tb-BPA has excellent anti-interference ability and can detect ATP in simulated urine with a small relative standard deviation (<4%). Moreover, the luminescent polyacrylonitrile nanofiber films modified by Tb-BPA were prepared by electrospinning and were used for ATP visual detection. Notably, this film is easy to recover and reuse, and maintains good detection performance after at least 7 cycles.

Abstract
In this study, a red-green dual-emitting fluorescent composite (RhB@MOFs) was constructed by introducing the red-emitting organic fluorescent dye rhodamine B (RhB) into metal-organic frameworks (Tb-MOFs). The sample can be used as a ratiometric fluorescent probe, which not only avoids errors caused by instrument and environmental instability but also has multiple applications in detection. The results indicated that the RhB@MOFs exhibited a turned-off response toward Fe3+ and a turned-on response for the continuous detection of ascorbic acid (AA). This ratiometric fluorescent probe possessed high sensitivity and excellent selectivity in the continuous determination of Fe3+ and AA. It is worth mentioning that remarkable fluorescence change could be clearly observed by the naked eye under a UV lamp, which is more convenient in applications. In addition, the mechanisms of Fe3+- and AA-induced fluorescence quench and recovery are discussed in detail. This ratiometric probe displayed outstanding recognition of heavy metal ions and biomolecules, providing potential applications for water quality monitoring and biomolecule determination.

Abstract
The development of highly luminescent two-dimensional covalent organic frameworks (COFs) for sensing applications remains challenging. To suppress commonly observed photoluminescence quenching of COFs, we propose a strategy involving interrupting the intralayer conjugation and interlayer interactions using cyclohexane as the linker unit. By variation of the building block structures, imine-bonded COFs with various topologies and porosities are obtained. Experimental and theoretical analyses of these COFs disclose high crystallinity and large interlayer distances, demonstrating enhanced emission with record-high photoluminescence quantum yields of up to 57% in the solid state. The resulting cyclohexane-linked COF also exhibits excellent sensing performance for the trace recognition of Fe3+ ions, explosive and toxic picric acid, and phenyl glyoxylic acid as metabolites. These findings inspire a facile and general strategy to develop highly emissive imine-bonded COFs for detecting various molecules.

Abstract
As an important biomarker in urine, the level of uric acid is of importance for human health. In this work, a Cu(II) functionalized metal–organic framework (Cu2+@Tb-MOFs) is designed and developed as a novel fluorescence probe for wide-range uric acid detection in human urine. The study shows that this fluorescence platform demonstrated excellent pH-independent stability, high water tolerance, and good thermal stability. Based on the strong interaction between metal ions and uric acid, the designed Cu2+@Tb-MOFs can be employed as efficient turn-on fluorescent probes for the detection of uric acid with wide detection range (0~104 µM) and high sensitivity (LOD = 0.65 µM). This probe also demonstrates an anti-interference property, as other species coexisted, and the possibility for recycling. The sensing mechanisms are further discussed at length. More importantly, we experimentally constructed a molecular logic gate operation based on this fluorescence probe for intelligent detection of uric acid. These results suggest the Cu(II) functionalized metal–organic framework can act as a prominent candidate for personalized monitoring of the concentration of uric acid in the human urine system.

Abstract
In this work, dual-emissive ratiometric fluorescent system was constructed by the introduction of an ideal internal reference. By virtue of its unique alkalinity, N2H4 could undergo a hydrazinolysis reaction with the ester group of F1, inducing remarkable fluorescence enhancement while the blue fluorescence of the internal reference DPA remained constant. Consequently, the fluorescence intensity ratios (I540/I440) were proportional to the concentrations of N2H4, which was beneficial for the exactly quantitative detection. The skillful strategy granted the sensing system advantages such as relative good solubility in aqueous media, easy-to-design, simple synthesis, large emission shift, good ratiometric response, as well as the successful application in real water samples and cell imaging.

Abstract
A tubelike Zn(II)-Yb(III) cluster, [Zn6Yb5L5(HL)(NO3)4(DMF)6(EtOH)4(H2O)4] (1; DMF = N,N-dimethylformamide and EtOH = ethanol; molecular size 1.5 × 1.8 × 2.9 nm), was synthesized from a new long-chain Schiff base ligand. 1 exhibits a regulatable near-IR-luminescent response to nitrofuran antibiotics (NFAs) and fluoroquinolones with high sensitivity, which is not influenced by other antibiotics. The quenching constants of NFAs and fluoroquinolones range from 0.55 × 104 to 8.8 × 104 M-1, and the detection limits of 1 to them are from 4.2 × 10-4 to 2.6 × 10-5 M. It also shows a luminescent response to real antibiotic drugs containing NFAs and fluoroquinolones.

Abstract
In this work, a luminescent metal–organic framework (Eu-MOF {[Eu6L6(μ3-OH)8(H2O)3]8·H2O}n) was constructed by a solvothermal method with a linear organic ligand L (10-[(2-amino-4-carboxyl-phenyl)ethynyl]anthracene-9-carboxylic acid) based on anthracene and alkyne groups and using Eu3+ as the metal center. The MOF exhibits a stable UiO-66 crystal structure, and a six-core cluster twelve-linked secondary structural unit was successfully synthesized using 2-fluorobenzoic acid as a modulator, forming a classical fcu topology. Moreover, it exhibits good chemical stability. Interestingly, Eu-MOF exhibited high selectivity and sensitive fluorescence burst properties towards Fe3+ ions and 2,4,6-trinitrophenol (TNP) in DMF solution. For Fe3+, the KSV value is 5.06 × 105 M−1 and the LOD value is 5.1 × 10−7 M. For TNP, the KSV value is 1.92 × 104 M−1 and the LOD value is 1.93 × 10−6 M. In addition, Eu-MOF showed good anti-interference ability and fast response. This work provides an excellent fluorescent sensor for the detection of Fe3+ and 2,4,6-trinitrophenol (TNP) residues in contaminants. In this work, Eu-MOF has been synthesized and has excellent luminescence recognition ability for Fe3+ and TNP with good selectivity and high sensitivity via luminescence quenching.![]()

Abstract
Dipicolinic acid (DPA) is an anthrax biomarker. Its serious consequences make its detection a great need. In this paper, three novel metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) with different coordination modes were synthesized by a simple solvothermal method, which can be used as highly efficient fluorescence sensors for the highly selective and sensitive trace detection of DPA. MOFs 1-3 showed rapid responses to DPA (<30 s), and the limits of detection (LODs) were calculated to be 1.01 × 10-6 M-1 (MOF 1), 1.17 × 10-6 M-1 (MOF 2) and 2.07 × 10-6 M-1 (MOF 3). DPA detection based on MOFs 1-3 in fetal bovine serum is highly reliable based on the high recovery rates (90% to 115%). Hence, the three MOF-based sensors can be used in the real-time detection of DPA.

Abstract
Qualification and quantification of trace organic contaminants necessitates development of highly efficient sensing system, where excited-state inter-ligand proton transfer (ESILPT) provides a feasible pathway to construct efficient chemo-sensors. Herein, a strategically synthesized lanthanide complex, Eu(DBM)3(MeOH)3 (briefly as Eu-DBM-MeOH; DBM = dibenzoylmethane), features two-step ESILPT processes, along with modification on molecular structure and energy band. As a result, Eu-DBM-MeOH exhibits excellent photophysical properties with characteristic luminescence of Eu3+ ion. Benefiting from these merits, the Eu-DBM-MeOH complex acts as ultra-sensitive chemo-sensor toward nanomolar-level nitrofuran antibiotics (nitrofurazone and nitrofurantoin) in water, by disrupting ESILPT processes. Combining the advantages on photophysical property and luminescent sensitivity, ESILPT-active compounds are expected to widen and deepen the research on complex-based luminophores, being potentially useful in trace detection and biological imaging.

Abstract
Industrial pollution and harmful chemicals seriously affect environment and human health. Styrene is a common air toxicant with widespread exposure sources, including smoking, automobile exhaust, and plastic pollutants. Phenylglyoxylic acid (PGA) is a typical biomarker for exposed styrene. Therefore, it is crucial to quickly identify and quantitatively detect PGA. Herein, an ultrastable terbium metal-organic framework (Tb-MOF 1) was developed, and the luminescence film (1/PLA) consisting of polylactic acid (PLA) and 1 was fabricated as a sensor for rapid detection of PGA. The sensor possesses the advantages of efficient detection [limit of detection (LOD) is 1.05 × 10-4 mg/mL] and rapid response speed (less than 10 s) for PGA in urine. Furthermore, this sensor exhibits high stability, outstanding anti-interference ability, and excellent recyclability. Based on this film technology, a paper-based probe was then developed for portable and convenient detection. The probe could easily distinguish different concentrations of PGA under the naked eye toward practical sensing applications. Meanwhile, photoinduced electron transfer was demonstrated to be responsible for the luminescence sensing. Hence, this study indicates that Tb-MOF is a promising material to detect PGA for evaluating the effect of styrene on the body.

Abstract
One NIR luminescent 14-metal Nd(iii) nanoring (1, molecular size: 1.0 × 2.2 × 2.6 nm) was obtained from a rigid tridentate ligand, which can absorb and transfer light energy to the Nd(iii) ions. 1 shows interesting luminescence sensing activity to antibiotics, in particular to NFAs with high sensitivity due to the inner filter effect. The quenching constants and the limits of detection of 1 to NFAs are 1.05 × 104 M-1-2.33 × 104 M-1 and 3.05 μM-6.75 μM, respectively. The high fluorescence sensitivities of 1 to NFAs are not changed by the existence of other antibiotics. It also exhibits high sensitivity in the luminescent detection of NFAs contained in real antibiotic drugs.

Abstract
Two NIR luminescent Zn(II)/Cd(II)-Yb(III) complexes were obtained by the use of a Schiff base ligand with a binaphthyl backbone. Cd(II)-Yb(III) complex 2 has a triangular structure and exhibits interesting luminescent sensing activity to antibiotics, in particular to ciprofloxacin (CPFX) and norfloxacin (NFX) due to the inner filter effect. The limits of the detection of 2 to CPFX and NFX are 0.18 and 0.36 μM, respectively, and the fluorescence sensitivity is not changed with the existence of other antibiotics tested in this study.
