Improved data assimilation for algal bloom dynamics simulation in the Three Gorges Reservoir using particle filter

Algal blooms have been increasingly prevalent in recent years, especially in lakes and reservoirs; their accurate prediction is essential for preserving water quality. In this study, the observed chlorophyll a (chl-a) levels were assimilated into the Environmental Fluid Dynamics Code (EFDC) of algal bloom dynamics by using a particle filter (PF), and the state variables of water quality and model parameters were simultaneously updated to achieve enhanced algal bloom predictive performance. The developed data assimilation system for algal blooms was applied to Xiangxi Bay (XXB) in the Three Gorges Reservoir (TGR). The results show that the ensemble mean accuracy and reliability of the confidence intervals of the predicted state variables, including chl-a and indirectly updated phosphate (PO4), ammonium (NH4), and nitrate (NO3) levels, were considerably improved after PF assimilation. Thus, PF assimilation is an effective tool for the dynamic correction of parameters to represent their inherent variations. Increased assimilation frequency can effectively suppress the accumulation of model errors; therefore, the use of high-frequency water quality data for assimilation is recommended to ensure more accurate and reliable algal bloom prediction.

Elastic Relaxor Ferroelectric by Thiol-ene Click Reaction

As ferroelectrics hold significance and application prospects in wearable devices, the elastification of ferroelectrics becomes more and more important. Nevertheless, achieving elastic ferroelectrics requires stringent synthesis conditions, while the elastification of relaxor ferroelectric materials remains unexplored, presenting an untapped potential for utilization in energy storage and actuation for wearable electronics. The thiol-ene click reaction offers a mild and rapid reaction platform to prepare functional polymers. Therefore, we employed this approach to obtain an elastic relaxor ferroelectric by crosslinking an intramolecular carbon-carbon double bonds (CF=CH) polymer matrix with multiple thiol groups via a thiol-ene click reaction. The resulting elastic relaxor ferroelectric demonstrates pronounced relaxor-type ferroelectric behaviour. This material exhibits low modulus, excellent resilience, and fatigue resistance, maintaining a stable ferroelectric response even under strains up to 70 %. This study introduces a straightforward and efficient approach for the construction of elastic relaxor ferroelectrics, thereby expanding the application possibilities in wearable electronics.

Effects of interaction of multiple large-scale atmospheric circulations on precipitation dynamics in China

Different scenarios of precipitation, that lead to such phenomena as droughts and floods are influenced by concurrent multiple teleconnection factors. However, the multivariate relationship between precipitation indices and teleconnection factors, including large-scale atmospheric circulations and sea surface temperature signals in China, is rarely explored. Understanding this relationship is crucial for drought early warning systems and effective response strategies. In this study, we comprehensively investigated the combined effects of multiple large-scale atmospheric circulation patterns on precipitation changes in China. Specifically, Pearson correlation analysis and Partial Wavelet Coherence (PWC) were used to identify the primary teleconnection factors influencing precipitation dynamics. Furthermore, we used the cross-wavelet method to elucidate the temporal lag and periodic relationships between multiple teleconnection factors and their interactions. Finally, the multiple wavelet coherence analysis method was used to identify the dominant two-factor and three-factor combinations shaping precipitation dynamics. This analysis facilitated the quantification and determination of interaction types and influencing pathways of teleconnection factors on precipitation dynamics, respectively. The results showed that: (1) the Atlantic Multidecadal Oscillation (AMO), EI Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENSO), East Asia Summer Monsoon (EASM), and Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD) were dominant teleconnection factors influencing Standardized Precipitation Index (SPI) dynamics; (2) significant correlation and leading or lagging relationships at different timescales generally existed for various teleconnection factors, where AMO was mainly leading the other factors with positive correlation, while ENSO and Southern Oscillation (SO) were mainly lagging behind other factors with prolonged correlations; and (3) the interactions between teleconnection factors were quantified into three types: enhancing, independent and offsetting effects. Specifically, the enhancing effect of two-factor combinations was stronger than the offsetting effect, where AMO + NAO (North Atlantic Oscillation) and AMO + AO (Atlantic Oscillation) had a larger distribution area in southern China. Conversely, the offsetting effect of three-factor combinations was more significant than that of the two-factor combinations, which was mainly distributed in northeast and northwest regions of China. This study sheds new light on the mechanisms of modulation and pathways of influencing various large-scale factors on seasonal precipitation dynamics.

Universal origin of glassy relaxation as recognized by configuration pattern matching

Relaxation processes are crucial for understanding the structural rearrangements of liquids and amorphous materials. However, the overarching principle that governs these processes across vastly different materials remains an open question. Substantial analysis has been carried out based on the motions of individual particles. Here, as an alternative, we propose viewing the global configuration as a single entity. We introduce a global order parameter, namely the inherent structure minimal displacement (IS Dmin), to quantify the variability of configurations by a pattern-matching technique. Through atomic simulations of seven model glass-forming liquids, we unify the influences of temperature, pressure and perturbation time on the relaxation dissipation, via a scaling law between the mechanical damping factor and IS Dmin. Fundamentally, this scaling reflects the curvature of the local potential energy landscape. Our findings uncover a universal origin of glassy relaxation and offer an alternative approach to studying disordered systems.

Living Growth Kinetics of Polymeric Micelles on a Substrate

Living growth of micelles on the substrate is an intriguing phenomenon; however, little is known about its growth kinetics, especially from a theoretical viewpoint. Here, we examine the living growth kinetics of polymeric micelles on a hydrophobic substrate immersed in an aqueous solution. The block copolymers first assemble into short cylinder seeds anchored on the substrate. Then, the small aggregates of block copolymers in the solutions fuse onto the active ends of the anchored seeds, leading to micelle growth on the substrate. A theoretical model is proposed to interpret such living growth kinetics. It is revealed that the growth rate coefficient on the substrate is independent of the copolymer concentration and the multistep feedings; however, it is significantly affected by the surface hydrophobicity. Brownian dynamics simulations further support the proposed growth mechanism and the kinetic model. This work enriches living assembly systems and provides guidance for fabricating bioinspired surface nanostructures.

An enzymatic continuous-flow reactor based on a pore-size matching nano- and isoporous block copolymer membrane

Continuous-flow biocatalysis utilizing immobilized enzymes emerged as a sustainable route for chemical synthesis. However, inadequate biocatalytic efficiency from current flow reactors, caused by non-productive enzyme immobilization or enzyme-carrier mismatches in size, hampers its widespread application. Here, we demonstrate a general-applicable and robust approach for the fabrication of a high-performance enzymatic continuous-flow reactor via integrating well-designed scalable isoporous block copolymer (BCP) membranes as carriers with an oriented and productive immobilization employing material binding peptides (MBP). Densely packed uniform enzyme-matched nanochannels of well-designed BCP membranes endow the desired nanoconfined environments towards a productive immobilized phytase. Tuning nanochannel properties can further regulate the complex reaction process and fortify the catalytic performance. The synergistic design of enzyme-matched carriers and efficient enzyme immobilization empowers an excellent catalytic performance with >1 month operational stability, superior productivity, and a high space-time yield (1.05 × 105 g L-1 d-1) via a single-pass continuous-flow process. The obtained performance makes the designed nano- and isoporous block copolymer membrane reactor highly attractive for industrial applications.

Engineering a polyvinyl butyral hydrogel as a thermochromic interlayer for energy-saving windows

Achieving mastery over light using thermochromic materials is crucial for energy-saving glazing. However, challenges such as high production costs, limited durability, and recyclability issues have hindered their widespread application in buildings. Herein, we develop a glass interlayer made of a polyvinyl butyral-based hydrogel swollen with LiCl solution. In addition to a fast, isochoric, and reversible transparency-to-opacity transition occurring as ambient temperatures exceed thermally comfortable levels, this hydrogel uniquely encompasses multiple features such as frost resistance, recyclability, scalability, and toughness. The combination of these features is achieved through a delicate balance of polyvinyl butyral's amphiphilicity and the suppression of network-forming phase separation. This design endows a nanostructured polyvinyl butyral-LiCl composite gel with swollen molecular segments linked by dispersed cross-linking sites in the form of hydrophobic nano-nodules. Upon laminating this hydrogel (a thickness of 0.3 mm), the resultant glazing product demonstrates approximately 90% luminous transmittance even at sub-zero temperatures, along with a significant modulation of solar and infrared radiation at 80.8% and 68.5%, respectively. Through simulations, we determined that windows equipped with the hydrogel could reduce energy consumption by 36% compared to conventional glass windows in warm seasons. The widespread adoption of polyvinyl butyral in construction underscores the promise of this hydrogel as a thermochromic interlayer for glazing.

Early properties of magnesium phosphate cement repairing material used in slab track

Magnesium phosphate cement (MPC) is a high-performance repairing material suitable for the interfacial disease of slab track. In this study, the early properties of MPC were optimized using central composite design (CCD) approach based on response surface methodology (RSM). Three factors with five levels and three responses were considered. The significance of the factors and their interactions were verified by using analysis of variance (ANOVA). The result show that the mass ratio of water-to-binder (W/b) affects fluidity, while the mass ratio of magnesia-to-phosphate (M/P) and borax-to-magnesia (B/M) impact the setting time of MPC. Higher W/b results in higher fluidity, while an increase in M/P reduces the setting time by increasing the neutralization reaction. Borax addition retards the reaction, prolonging the setting time. The three factors significantly affect the early compressive strength of MPC. At M/P = 3.5, the interweaving of MgO and K-struvite (MKP) forms a dense network structure, enhancing the strength. Borax and W/b interact to affect compressive strength, with borax retarding MKP crystal growth and higher W/b reducing compactness. Combined with microscopic property test, the strength generation mechanism of MPC with optimized mixing ratio was revealed, And the feasibility of field application of MPC was verified by strength test.

GPRC5A promotes paclitaxel resistance and glucose content in NSCLC

Lung cancer is one of the most common and malignant cancers worldwide. Chemotherapy has been widely used in the clinical setting, and paclitaxel is the first-line therapy for lung cancer patients but paclitaxel resistance is the main problem. First, we successfully established paclitaxel-resistant lung cancer cells treated with elevated doses of paclitaxel for 3 months, as confirmed by the CCK-8 assay. Paclitaxel-resistant cancer cells increased glucose content. Second, Gtex, Oncomine, and gene expression omnibus database data mining identified GPRC5A, G protein-coupled receptor, as the most prominent differentially expressed gene in drug-resistant datasets including gemcitabine, paclitaxel, and gefitinib overlapped with the microarray data from cancer cell metabolism. Third, qPCR analysis and western blot technique showed that GPRC5A mRNA and protein levels were significantly enhanced in paclitaxel-resistant lung cancer cells. Fourth, functional analysis was conducted by siRNA-mediated transient knockdown of GPRC5A. Silencing GPRC5A significantly decreased paclitaxel resistance and glucose content. In the end, retinoic acid substantially upregulated GPRC5A proteins and promoted glucose content in two lung cancer cells. Kaplan-Meier plot also confirmed that lung cancer patients with high expression of GPRC5A had a relatively lower survival rate. Our study provided a potential drug target GPRC5A, which may benefit lung cancer patients with acquired paclitaxel resistance in the future and a theoretical basis for future preclinical trials.

Study on Plastic Constitutive Relation and Ductile Fracture Criterion of AM60B Magnesium Alloy

It is currently a challenge to accurately predict the deformation and fracture behavior of metal parts in automobile crashes. Many studies have shown that the deformation and fracture behavior of materials are significantly affected by the stress state during automobile crashes with complex stress state characteristics. In order to further promote the application of die-cast magnesium alloys in automobiles, it is particularly important to study the material deformation and fracture behavior of die-cast magnesium alloys. In this paper, the mechanical properties of the AM60B die-cast magnesium alloy sheet under four stress states (shear, tension, R10 notch tension, and cupping) were designed and tested. Based on the von Mises isotropic constitutive model and Swift weighted Hockett-Sherby hardening model, the plastic constitutive model of die-cast magnesium alloy was established. Based on the plastic model and the fracture model (JC, MMC, and DIEM) considering the influence of three stress states, the deformation and fracture behavior of the AM60B die-cast magnesium alloy front-end members in three-point bending were predicted by experiments and finite element simulation. The experimental results show that the deformation mode and loading-displacement curve trend of the AM60B die-cast magnesium alloy front members are the same, the crack initiation point and crack initiation time are the same, and the crack shape is similar. The results show that the complex stress state constitutive model parameters and the DIEM fracture model obtained in this paper can accurately predict the deformation and fracture failure behavior of the AM60B die-cast magnesium alloy sheet.

Lichen pectin-containing polysaccharide from Xanthoria elegans and its ability to effectively protect LX-2 cells from H2O2-induced oxidative damage

Xanthoria elegans, a drought-tolerant lichen, is the original plant of the traditional Chinese medicine "Shihua" and effectively treats a variety of liver diseases. However, thus far, the hepatoprotective effects of polysaccharides, the most important chemical constituents of X. elegans, have not been determined. The aim of this study was to screen the polysaccharide fraction for hepatoprotective activity by using free radical scavenging assays and a H2O2-induced Lieming Xu-2 cell (LX-2) oxidative damage model and to elucidate the chemical composition of the bioactive polysaccharide fraction. In the present study, three polysaccharide fractions (XEP-50, XEP-70 and XEP-90) were obtained from X. elegans by hot-water extraction, DEAE-cellulose anion exchange chromatography separation and ethanol gradient precipitation. Among the three polysaccharide fractions, XEP-70 exhibited the best antioxidant activity in free radical scavenging capacity and reducing power assays. Structural studies showed that XEP-70 was a pectin-containing heteropolysaccharide fraction that was composed mainly of (1 → 4)-linked and (1 → 4,6)-linked α-D-Glcp, (1 → 4)-linked α-D-GalpA, (1 → 2)-linked, (1 → 6)-linked and (1 → 2,6)-linked α-D-Manp, and (1 → 6)-linked and (1 → 2,6)-linked β-D-Galf. Furthermore, XEP-70 exhibited effectively protect LX-2 cells against H2O2-induced oxidative damage by enhancing cellular antioxidant capacity by activating the Nrf2/Keap1/ARE signaling pathway. Thus, XEP-70 has good potential to protect hepatic stellate cells against oxidative damage.

Light-triggered AND logic tetrapeptide dynamic covalent assembly

We demonstrate light-triggered dynamic covalent assembly of a linear short tetrapeptide containing two terminal cysteine residues in an AND logic manner. A photobase generator is introduced to accomplish light-mediated pH regulation to increase the reduction potential of thiols in the tetrapeptide, which activates its oxidative polymerization through disulfide bonds. Interestingly, it is elucidated that under light irradiation, mere co-existence of photobase generator and the oxidizing agent permits the polymerization performance of this tetrapeptide. Hence, a light-triggered AND logic dynamic covalent assembly of a tetrapeptide is achieved. Further, upon redox response, the reversible aggregation and disaggregation can be transformed for numerous times due to the dynamic covalent feature of disulfide bond. As a comparison, no assembly occurs for a short peptide containing one terminal cysteine residue under the same stimuli condition. This work offers a new approach to remotely control programmable molecular assembly of short linear peptides based on dynamic covalent bond, holding great potential in wide bioapplications.

Clearance of VWF by hepatic macrophages is critical for the protective effect of ADAMTS13 in sickle cell anemia mice

ABSTRACT

Although it is caused by a single-nucleotide mutation in the β-globin gene, sickle cell anemia (SCA) is a systemic disease with complex, incompletely elucidated pathologies. The mononuclear phagocyte system plays critical roles in SCA pathophysiology. However, how heterogeneous populations of hepatic macrophages contribute to SCA remains unclear. Using a combination of single-cell RNA sequencing and spatial transcriptomics via multiplexed error-robust fluorescence in situ hybridization, we identified distinct macrophage populations with diversified origins and biological functions in SCA mouse liver. We previously found that administering the von Willebrand factor (VWF)-cleaving protease ADAMTS13 alleviated vaso-occlusive episode in mice with SCA. Here, we discovered that the ADAMTS13-cleaved VWF was cleared from the circulation by a Clec4f+Marcohigh macrophage subset in a desialylation-dependent manner in the liver. In addition, sickle erythrocytes were phagocytized predominantly by Clec4f+Marcohigh macrophages. Depletion of macrophages not only abolished the protective effect of ADAMTS13 but exacerbated vaso-occlusive episode in mice with SCA. Furthermore, promoting macrophage-mediated VWF clearance reduced vaso-occlusion in SCA mice. Our study demonstrates that hepatic macrophages are important in the pathogenesis of SCA, and efficient clearance of VWF by hepatic macrophages is critical for the protective effect of ADAMTS13 in SCA mice.

Recent advances in nanotechnology for programmed death ligand 1-targeted cancer theranostics

Programmed cell death ligand 1 (PD-L1)/programmed cell death protein 1 (PD-1) checkpoint inhibitor-based immunotherapy has provided a unique and potent weapon against cancer in clinical practice. The likelihood of achieving beneficial effects from PD-L1/PD-1 immune checkpoint blockade (ICB) therapy is clinically assessed by detecting PD-L1 expression through invasive tissue biopsies. However, PD-L1 expression is susceptible to tumor heterogeneity and dynamic response to ICB therapy. Moreover, currently, anti-PD-L1 immunotherapy still faces challenges of the low targeting efficiency of antibody drugs and the risk of immune-associated adverse events. To overcome these issues, advanced nanotechnology has been developed for the purpose of quantitative, non-invasive, and dynamic analyses of PD-L1, and to enhance the efficiency of ICB therapy. In this review, we first introduce the nanoprobe-assisted in vitro/in vivo modalities for the selective and sensitive analysis of PD-L1 during the diagnostic and therapeutic process. On the other hand, the feasibility of fabricating diverse functional nanocarriers as smart delivery systems for precisely targeted delivery of PD-L1 immune checkpoint inhibitors and combined therapies is highlighted. Finally, the current challenges are discussed and future perspectives for PD-L1-targeted cancer theranostics in preclinical research and clinical settings are proposed.

Kilohertz volumetric imaging of in-vivo dynamics using squeezed light field microscopy

Volumetric functional imaging of transient cellular signaling and motion dynamics poses a significant challenge to current microscopy techniques, primarily due to limitations in hardware bandwidth and the restricted photon budget within short exposure times. In response to this challenge, we present squeezed light field microscopy (SLIM), a computational imaging method that enables rapid detection of high-resolution three-dimensional (3D) light signals using only a single, low-format camera sensor area. SLIM pushes the boundaries of 3D optical microscopy, achieving over one thousand volumes per second across a large field of view of 550 μm in diameter and 300 μm in depth. Using SLIM, we demonstrated blood cell velocimetry across the embryonic zebrafish brain and in a free-moving tail exhibiting high-frequency swinging motion. The millisecond temporal resolution also enables accurate voltage imaging of neural membrane potentials in the leech ganglion. These results collectively establish SLIM as a versatile and robust imaging tool for high-speed microscopy applications.

Intravenous tranexamic acid significantly improved visualization and shortened the operation time in microscopic middle ear surgery: a randomized controlled trial

BACKGROUND

The microscopic middle ear surgery involves a limited operating space and numerous important anatomical structures in which good visualization is crucial, as even a small amount of bleeding can greatly affect the clarity of surgical field. This study aims to investigate whether intravenous 1gram of tranexamic acid can improve surgical visualization and further shorten the operation time in microscopic middle ear surgery.

METHODS

This study is a prospective, randomized, double-blind, controlled trial conducted from December 2021 to December 2022, enrolling patients who were scheduled for microscopic modified radical mastoidectomy due to chronic otitis media. In addition to standard techniques to optimize the surgical field, participants were randomized into the TXA (tranexamic acid) group (1gram diluted to 20 mL normal saline) and the control group (20 mL normal saline). The primary outcome was assessed based on the clarity of the surgical field using the Modena Bleeding Score. Secondary outcomes included operation time, the surgeon satisfaction with the visual clarity, postoperative 24-hour coagulation parameters, and the incidence of adverse events. Student's t test, Chi-square test and ANOVA of repeated measures were used for statistical analyses.

RESULTS

A total of 28 patients were enrolled in each group using a 1:1 randomized allocation with similar demographic characteristics, including 24 male and 32 female individuals, and the mean age is 45.6±11.9 years. The surgical visualization in the TXA group was significantly better than that of the control group (2.29±0.46 vs. 2.89±0.31, P<0.001) as assessed by the Modena Bleeding Score. Furthermore, the TXA group demonstrated a shorter operation time compared to the control group (88.61±10.9 vs. 105.2±15.9, P<0.001) and higher surgeon satisfaction with surgical field (7.82±0.55 vs. 6.50±0.64, P<0.001). No statistically significant differences were found in postoperative coagulation parameters in the two groups. No TXA-related adverse events or complications occurred during the 12-month follow-up.

CONCLUSION

Intravenous 1gram of TXA can further significantly improve the visual clarity in the microscopic middle ear surgery and shorten the operation time based on other standard measures implemented.

In-Synthesis Se-Stabilization Enables Defect and Doping Engineering of HgTe Colloidal Quantum Dots

Colloidal Quantum Dots (CQDs) of mercury telluride (HgTe) hold particular appeal for infrared photodetection due to their widely-tunable infrared absorption and good compatibility with Si electronics. While advances in surface chemistry have led to improved QD solids, the chemical stability of HgTe material has not been fully emphasized. In this study, we aimed to address this issue and identified a Se-stabilization strategy based on the surface coating of Se on HgTe CQDs via engineering in the precursor reactivity. The presence of Se-coating enables HgTe CQDs with improved colloidal stability, passivation and enhanced degree of freedom in doping tuning. This enables the construction of an optimized p-i-n HgTe CQDs infrared photodetectors with an ultra-low dark current 3.26 × 10-6 A/cm2 at -0.4 V and a room-temperature specific detectivity of 5.17 × 1011 Jones at a wavelength ∼2 um, approximately one order of magnitude improvement compared to that of the control device. The stabilizing effect of Se is well preserved in the thin film state, contributing to much improved device stability. The in-synthesis Se-stabilization strategy highlights the importance of the chemical stability of materials for the construction of semiconductor-grade CQD solids and might have important implications for other high-performance CQD optoelectronic devices. Theoretical analysis on D-π-A dye molecules with different acceptors and terminal branches for highly efficient dye-sensitized solar cells

Triphenylamine and 9-phenylcarbazole are the most common electron donor groups, now based on the two groups, eight D-π-A dyes are designed as sensitizers for dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs).The eight dyes use the same π-conjugated bridge (thiophene moiety and carbon-carbon double bond) and acceptor fragment (cyanoacrylic acid), and the donor group is added with additional electron-D groups to the original triphenylamine and 9-phenylcarbazole (C4H9 alkyl chain, C4F9 perfluoroalkyl chain, and methoxy), and comparing the properties of several donor groups and terminal branched chains while ensuring that the π-bridges and acceptors are identical. The photophysical properties, electronically excited states, and chemical reactivity affecting the performed dyes have been determined with DFT and TD-DFT calculations of bond lengths and dihedral angles between fragments, frontier molecular orbitals, density of states, isosurface molecular electrostatic potential, charge density differences, fragment transition density matrix, UV-Vis absorption spectra, quantum chemical, and photovoltaic parameters. Comparisons have been made between the dyes under study's photophysical characteristics, electrically excited states, and chemical reactivity. Among all the different donor dyes designed, SH-3 and ZD-3 are poorly molecularly planar compared to the same series of molecules with parameters such as large HOMO-LUMO energy gaps (2.78 eV, 3.28 eV), maximum excited energies (2.93 eV, 3.13 eV), and the shortest absorption peaks (422.76 nm, 396.48 nm), which are considered to be the worst material for photovoltaic applications. Whereas, SH-4 and ZD-4 have the smallest energy gap values (2.35 eV, 2.74 eV) and vertical excitation energies (2.66 eV, 3.04 eV) as well as having the longest absorption peaks (465.34 nm, 408.42 nm), the largest open circuit voltages (1.42 eV, 1.34 eV), which are the best designs among the two groups of molecules. The rest of the designed organic dyes have suitable photophysical properties and all of them are highly recommended for DSSCs.

Development and validation of a model for predicting the risk of prostate cancer

BACKGROUND

Abnormal hematologic parameters before patients undergoing prostate biopsy play a pivotal role in guiding the surgical management of prostate cancer (PCa) incidence. This study aims to establish the first nomogram for predicting PCa risk for better surgical management.

METHODS

We retrospectively reviewed and analyzed the data including basic information, preoperative hematologic parameters, and imaging examination of 540 consecutive patients who underwent transrectal ultrasound (TRUS)-guided prostate biopsy for elevated prostate-specific antigen (PSA) in our medical center between 2017 and 2021. Logistic regression analysis was used to determine the risk factors for PCa occurrence, and the nomogram was constructed to predict PCa occurrence. Finally, the data including 121 consecutive patients in 2022 were prospectively collected to further verify the results.

RESULTS

In retrospective analyses, univariate and multivariate logistic analyses identified that three variables including age, diabetes, and De Ritis ratio (aspartate transaminase/alanine transaminase, AST/ALT) were determined to be significantly associated with PCa occurrence. A nomogram was constructed based on these variables for predicting the risk of PCa, and a satisfied predictive accuracy of the model was determined with a C-index of 0.765, supported by a prospective validation group with a C-index of 0.736. The Decision curve analysis showed promising clinical application. In addition, our results also showed that the De Ritis ratio was significantly correlated with the clinical stage of PCa patients, including T, N, and M stages, but insignificantly related to the Gleason score.

CONCLUSIONS

The increased De Ritis ratio was significantly associated with the risk and clinical stage of PCa and this nomogram with good discrimination could effectively improve individualized surgical management for patient underdoing prostate biopsy.

Efficacy and safety of coadministration of venetoclax and anti-fungal agents under therapeutic drug monitor in unfit acute myeloid leukemia and high-risk myelodysplastic syndrome with neutropenia: a single-center retrospective study

Unfit acute myeloid leukemia and high-risk myelodysplastic syndrome patients with prolonged neutropenia demand coadministration of venetoclax and azoles. However, venetoclax dosing under drug-drug interaction with azoles remains controversial. Therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) is expected to guide drug dosage adjustments. We retrospectively enrolled 17 patients under this coadministration and TDM. Venetoclax dosages were interfered when inappropriate drug concentrations appeared. The primary endpoints were objective response and adverse events. Venetoclax concentration outliers were more frequently evaluated before than after dose adjustment (Cmax 60.87% vs. 0.00%, p < .0001). MRD negativity rate was higher in patients staying within reference range than those having outliers (90.91% vs. 33.33%, p = .028). Objective response rate was 100%. Hematologic adverse events included neutropenia (93.3%), febrile neutropenia (53.3%), and thrombocytopenia (81.3%). Median time to neutropenia and thrombocytopenia recovery was 20 (14-32) and 16.5 (6-34) days, respectively. No invasive fungal and other life-threatening infections were observed.

Compliant gait control method based on CVSLIP-FF model for biped robot walking over uneven terrain

Bipedal walking over uneven terrain remains a challenging task due to the environmental complexity and unavoidable landing impact. To realize the stable and robust walking of biped robots, this paper proposes a compliant gait control method, which focuses on walking compliance and conducts research on two levels. In the gait generation level, a Continuous-Variable Spring-Loaded Inverted Pendulum with Finite-sized Foot (CVSLIP-FF) model is provided with the consideration of the ankle joint and compliant spring-loaded leg. Then, a CVSLIP-FF based gait generation pattern with relevant walking strategies is provided to enhance the mobility of biped robots. In the joint control level, an ankle joint admittance control strategy is applied to achieve compliant robot-environment interaction. Experimental results indicate that compared with the traditional SLIP model, the proposed method performs better adaptability to uneven terrain with a 217.77% improvement, and enables biped robots to cope with slight unknown disturbance.

High-Curie-Temperature Elastic Polymer Ferroelectric by Carbene Cross-Linking

With the emergence of wearable electronics, ferroelectrics are poised to serve as key components for numerous potential applications. Currently, intrinsically elastic ferroelectrics featuring a network structure through a precise "slight cross-linking" approach have been realized. The resulting elastic ferroelectrics demonstrate a combination of stable ferroelectric properties and remarkable resilience under various strains. However, challenges arose as the cross-linking temperature was too high when integrating ferroelectrics with other functional materials, and the Curie temperature of this elastic ferroelectric was comparatively low. Addressing these challenges, we strategically chose a poly(vinylidene fluoride)-based copolymer with high vinylidene fluoride content to obtain a high Curie temperature while synthesizing a cross-linker with carbene intermediate for high reactivity to reduce the cross-linking temperature. At a relatively low temperature, we successfully fabricated elastic ferroelectrics through carbene cross-linking. The resulting elastic polymer ferroelectrics exhibit a higher Curie temperature and show a stable ferroelectric response under strains up to 50%. These materials hold significant potential for integration into wearable electronics.

[Diagnostic value of high frequency oscillation in localization of type Ⅱ focal cortical dysplasia epilepsy]

Retrospective analysis was conducted on 9 patients with type Ⅱ focal cortical dysplasia (FCD) who underwent stereo-electroencephalography (SEEG) implantation in the Department of Neurosurgery of the First Affiliated Hospital of Fujian Medical University from November 2020 to February 2023. The onset area, onset time, and frequency of high-frequency oscillations (HFO) were analyzed and the correlation of HFOs with interictal, preictal, and ictal periods. SEEG recordings of 80-500 Hz HFOs were observed in both interictal and ictal periods in 9 patients, with 6 patients exhibiting fast ripples (FR) in the range of 250-500 Hz. Surgical resection of the seizure onset area and FR-generating electrodes was performed, and postoperative follow-up for over 2 years indicated Engel I in 5 cases. 6 patients showed continuous discharge during the preictal period, and the distribution index of continuous discharge was positively correlated with seizure frequency. HFOs in the range of 80-500 Hz were present in all four seizure onset patterns during the ictal period. The onset area and FR-emitting electrode were surgically removed in 6 patients with continuous discharge and overlapping HFOs during the preictal period, with 5 cases of Engel I. Type Ⅱ FCD discharges exhibited complexity, high discharge indices, and a close association with HFOs. Compared with the spike wave, the electrode range of HF is more limited, and the incidence of HF before attack is significantly increased, which is closely correlated with the onset area. The simultaneous occurrence of HFO and the spike waves has higher diagnostic value than the individual occurrence, effectively enhancing surgical efficacy.

Hierarchical processing enabled by 2D ferroelectric semiconductor transistor for low-power and high-efficiency AI vision system

The growth of data and Internet of Things challenges traditional hardware, which encounters efficiency and power issues owing to separate functional units for sensors, memory, and computation. In this study, we designed an α-phase indium selenide (α-In2Se3) transistor, which is a two-dimensional ferroelectric semiconductor as the channel material, to create artificial optic-neural and electro-neural synapses, enabling cutting-edge processing-in-sensor (PIS) and computing-in-memory (CIM) functionalities. As an optic-neural synapse for low-level sensory processing, the α-In2Se3 transistor exhibits a high photoresponsivity (2855 A/W) and detectivity (2.91 × 1014 Jones), facilitating efficient feature extraction. For high-level processing tasks as an electro-neural synapse, it offers a fast program/erase speed of 40 ns/50 µs and ultralow energy consumption of 0.37 aJ/spike. An AI vision system using α-In2Se3 transistors has been demonstrated. It achieved an impressive recognition accuracy of 92.63% within 12 epochs owing to the synergistic combination of the PIS and CIM functionalities. This study demonstrates the potential of the α-In2Se3 transistor in future vision hardware, enhancing processing, power efficiency, and AI applications.

[OCT analysis of in-stent neointima over 5 years post-DES implantation]

Objective: To investigate the characteristics of neointimal hyperplasia (NIH) in patients with in-stent restenosis (ISR) over 5 years post-drug-eluting stent (DES) implantation based on optical coherence tomography (OCT). Methods: In this cross-sectional study, patients with DES-ISR who underwent OCT examination at PLA General Hospital between March 2010 and March 2022 were retrospectively included. All patients were divided into≤5 years DES-ISR group and>5 years DES-ISR group according to the time interval after DES implantation. Quantitative and qualitative analyses were conducted on OCT images to compare the clinical data and lesion characteristics of two patient groups. Furthermore, the independent clinical predictive factors of in-stent neoatherosclerosis (ISNA) were analyzed by multivariable logistic regression. Results: A total of 230 DES-ISR patients with 249 lesions were included, with an age of (63.1±10.4) years and 188 males (81.7%). The median interval after DES implantation was 6 (2, 9) years. There were 117 patients (122 ISR lesions) in the≤5 years DES-ISR group, and 113 patients (127 ISR lesions) in the>5 years DES-ISR group. Compared with≤5 years DES-ISR,>5 years DES-ISR showed more heterogeneous patterns (65.4% (83/127) vs. 48.4% (59/122), P=0.007), diffuse patterns (46.5% (59/127) vs. 31.2% (38/122), P=0.013), macrophage accumulations (44.1% (56/127) vs. 31.2% (38/122), P=0.035) in NIH and higher prevalence of ISNA (83.5% (106/127) vs. 72.1% (88/122), P=0.031). According to multivariable logistic regression, the independent predictive factor for ISNA was female (OR=0.44, 95%CI 0.21-0.90, P=0.026). Female (OR=0.48, 95%CI 0.23-0.99, P=0.046) and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol level (OR=1.62, 95%CI 1.01-2.59, P=0.046) were independent predictive factors, respectively, for lipid ISNA. Calcified ISNA was independently associated with time interval of post-DES implantation (OR=1.18, 95%CI 1.07-1.29, P=0.001). Conclusion: DES-ISR patients with a time interval of>5 years after stent implantation have a higher prevalence of ISNA and more complex lesions. Gender, the level of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, and the time interval post-DES implantation are independently correlated with ISNA, lipid ISNA, and calcified ISNA.

Short-Wave Infrared Detection and Imaging Employing Size-Customized HgTe Nanocrystals

HgTe nanocrystals (NCs) possess advantages including tunable infrared absorption spectra, solution processability, and low fabrication costs, offering new avenues for the advancement of next-generation infrared detectors. In spite of great synthetic advances, it remains essential to achieve customized synthesis of HgTe NCs in terms of industrial applications. Herein, by taking advantage of a high critical nucleation concentration of HgTe NCs, a continuous-dropwise (CD) synthetic approach that features the addition of the anion precursors in a feasible drop-by-drop fashion is demonstrated. The slow reaction dynamics enable size-customized synthesis of HgTe NCs with sharp band tails and wide absorption range fully covering the short- and mid-infrared regions. More importantly, the intrinsic advantages of CD process ensure high-uniformity and scale-up synthesis from batch to batch without compromising the excitonic features. The resultant HgTe nanocrystal photodetectors show a high room-temperature detectivity of 8.1 × 1011 Jones at 1.7 µm cutoff absorption edge. This CD approach verifies a robust method for controlled synthesis of HgTe NCs and might have important implications for scale-up synthesis of other nanocrystal materials.

Erianin promotes endogenous neurogenesis in traumatic brain injury rats

The objective of this study was to explore the positive influence and potential mechanism of Erianin on the recovery of brain cells following a traumatic brain injury (TBI). TBI rat models were prepared and treated with Erianin injection via tail vein. The assessment included evaluating the rats' levels of oxidative stress, inflammation, neuronal damage, mitochondrial damage, neuronal regeneration, transformation of pro-inflammatory microglial cells, activation status of the ERK signal pathway, and the functionality of their learning and memory. After administering Erianin, there was a suppression of oxidative stress, inflammation, nerve cell damage, and mitochondrial damage in the TBI rats. Additionally, there was an increase in neuronal regeneration in the cortex and hippocampus, inhibition of pro-inflammatory microglial cell transformation in the cortex, improvement in learning and memory function in TBI rats, and simultaneous inhibition of the activation of the ERK1/c-Jun signal pathway. The findings suggest that Erianin has the potential to reduce oxidative stress and inflammatory reaction in rats with TBI, safeguard nerve cells against apoptosis, stimulate the growth of new neural cells, ultimately enhancing the cognitive abilities and memory function of the rats. The inhibition of the ERK signaling pathway could be closely associated with these effects.

Step-growth Polymerization of Aziridines with Elemental Sulfur: Easy Access to Linear Polysulfides and Their Use as Recyclable Adhesives

The bulk radical polymerization of bis(aziridine) with molten elemental sulfur resulted in brittle, cross-linked polymers. However, when the bis(aziridine) was treated with elemental sulfur in the presence of an organobase, the ring-opening reaction of aziridine with oligosulfide anions occurred, leading to the formation of linear polymers by step-growth polymerization. These newly synthesized polymers possess repeating units containing a sulfonamide or amide functional moiety and oligosulfide bonds with an average sulfur segment of about two. A small molecular model reaction confirmed the nucleophilic addition reaction of elemental sulfur to aziridine. It was verified that S-S dynamic bond exchange takes place in the presence of an organic base within the linear chains. The mixture of the synthesized polysulfides with pyridine exhibits exceptional adhesive properties when applied to steel, and aluminum substrates. Notably, these prepared adhesives displayed good reusability due to the dynamic S-S exchange and complete recyclability due to their solution processability. This elemental sulfur-involved polymerization approach represents an innovative method for the synthesis of advanced sulfur-containing polymers, demonstrating the potential for various applications in adhesives and beyond.

Planar Cation Passivation on Colloidal Quantum Dots Enables High-Performance 0.35-1.8 µm Broadband TFT Imager

Solution-processed colloidal quantum dots (CQDs) are promising candidates for broadband photodetectors from visible light to shortwave infrared (SWIR). However, large-size PbS CQDs sensitive to longer SWIR are mainly exposed with nonpolar (100) facets on the surface, which lack robust passivation strategies. Herein, an innovative passivation strategy that employs planar cation, is introduced to enable face-to-face coupling on (100) facets and strengthen halide passivation on (111) facets. The defect density of CQDs film (Eg ≈ 0.74 eV) is reduced from 2.74 × 1015 to 1.04  × 1015 cm-3 , coupled with 0.1 eV reduction in the activation energy of defects. The resultant CQDs photodiodes exhibit a low dark current density of 14 nA cm-2 with a high external quantum efficiency (EQE) of 62%, achieving a linear dynamic range of 98 dB, a -3dB bandwidth of 103 kHz and a detectivity of 4.7 × 1011 Jones. The comprehensive performance of the CQDs photodiodes outperforms previously reported CQDs photodiodes operating at >1.6 µm. By monolithically integrated with thin-film transistor (TFT) readout circuit, the broadband CQDs imager covering 0.35-1.8 µm realizes the functions including silicon wafer perspectivity and material discrimination, showing its potential for wide range of applications.

Achievement of Target Gain Larger than Unity in an Inertial Fusion Experiment

On December 5, 2022, an indirect drive fusion implosion on the National Ignition Facility (NIF) achieved a target gain G_{target} of 1.5. This is the first laboratory demonstration of exceeding "scientific breakeven" (or G_{target}>1) where 2.05 MJ of 351 nm laser light produced 3.1 MJ of total fusion yield, a result which significantly exceeds the Lawson criterion for fusion ignition as reported in a previous NIF implosion [H. Abu-Shawareb et al. (Indirect Drive ICF Collaboration), Phys. Rev. Lett. 129, 075001 (2022)PRLTAO0031-900710.1103/PhysRevLett.129.075001]. This achievement is the culmination of more than five decades of research and gives proof that laboratory fusion, based on fundamental physics principles, is possible. This Letter reports on the target, laser, design, and experimental advancements that led to this result.

Genome-wide survey reveals the genetic background of Xinjiang Brown cattle in China

Introduction: Xinjiang Brown cattle are a famous dual-purpose (dairy-beef) cultivated breed in China that occupy a pivotal position within the cattle breeding industry in Xinjiang, China. However, little information is available on the genetic background of this breed. To fill this research gap, we conducted a whole-genome screen using specific-locus amplified fragment sequencing to examine the genetic structure and diversity of 130 Xinjiang Brown cattle-grazing type (XBG, traditional type) cattle. Methods: A subsequent joint analysis incorporating two ancestral breeds, specifically 19 Brown Swiss (BS) foreign and nine Kazakh (KZ) Chinese cattle, as well as 20 Xinjiang Brown cattle-housing type (XBH) cattle, was used to explore the genetic background of the Xinjiang Brown cattle. Results: The results showed that, after nearly a century of crossbreeding, XBG cattle formed a single population with a stable genetic performance. The genetic structure, genetic diversity, and selection signature analysis of the two ancestral types showed highly different results compared to that of XBH cattle. Local ancestry inference showed that the average proportions of XGB cattle within the BS and KZ cattle lineages were 37.22% and 62.78%, respectively, whereas the average proportions of XBH cattle within the BS and KZ cattle lineages were 95.14% and 4.86%, respectively. Thus, XGB cattle are more representative of all Xinjiang Brown cattle, in line with their breeding history, which involves crossbreeding. Two complementary approaches, fixation index and mean nucleotide diversity, were used to detect selection signals in the four aforementioned cattle breeds. Finally, the analysis of 26 candidate genes in Xinjiang Brown cattle revealed significant enrichment in 19 Gene Ontology terms, and seven candidate genes were enriched in three pathways related to disease resistance (CDH4, SIRPB1, and SIRPα) and the endocrine system (ADCY5, ABCC8, KCNJ11, and KCNMA1). Finally, development of the core SNPs in XBG cattle yielded 8,379 loci. Conclusion: The results of this study detail the evolutionary process of crossbreeding in Xinjiang Brown cattle and provide guidance for selecting and breeding new strains of this species.

Scalable co-cured polyimide/poly(p-phenylene benzobisoxazole) all-organic composites enabling improved energy storage density, low leakage current and long-term cycling stability

The all-organic high-temperature polymer dielectrics with promising scale-up potential have witnessed much progress in the energy storage area, etc. However, the electron suppression trap mechanisms behind many all-organic dielectrics are still unclear, especially for high temperature resistant poly(p-phenylene benzobisoxazole) (PBO) polymers. To resolve this tough issue, we herein innovatively prepared PBO-based all-organic thin films containing sulfone-based polyimide (P(DSDA-ODA)) functioning as an electron trap phase using a facile and scalable co-curing method. The great linear dielectric properties of the prepared P(DSDA-ODA)/PBO films hold high dielectric thermal stability over the temperature range from 25 °C to 200 °C. The 60 wt% P(DSDA-ODA) systems yield the lowest leakage current (3.8 × 10-8 A cm-2). The tight structure and reduced leakage current enable an enhanced breakdown strength of 60 wt% P(DSDA-ODA)/PBO (470 kV mm-1), which is 1.7 times that of pure PBO. Meanwhile, it can reach 4.16 J cm-3 of energy density, which is 257% higher than that for pure PBO thin films while concurrently maintaining a long stable charge-discharge cycle (at least 5000 times) and high charge-discharge efficiency at 85.10%. Moreover, P(DSDA-ODA)/PBO still exhibits excellent energy storage performance at high temperature compared to PBO. This innovative strategy is further verified by replacing P(DSDA-ODA) with P(6FDA-ODA), and therefore lays a solid foundation for more investigation on scalable all-organic dielectrics.

Surrogate-Assisted Multi-Objective Evolutionary Optimization With Pareto Front Model-Based Local Search Method

Some local search methods have been incorporated into surrogate-assisted multi-objective evolutionary algorithms to accelerate the search toward the real Pareto front (PF). In this article, a PF model-based local search method is proposed to accelerate the exploration and exploitation of the PF. It first builds a predicted PF model with current nondominated solutions. Then, some sparse points in the predicted PF are selected to guide the search directions of the local search in order to promote the search of promising sparse areas. The approximation degree of the predicted and real PFs will influence the speed of the local search, while extreme points can significantly influence the shape of the PF. To accelerate the search progress, the optima of surrogate models are utilized to promote the progress of finding extreme points. The proposed local search method is incorporated into a surrogate-assisted multi-objective evolutionary algorithm. The proposed surrogate-assisted multi-objective evolutionary algorithm with the proposed local search method is tested with Zitzler-Deb-Thiele (ZDT), Deb-Thiele-Laummans-Zitzler (DTLZ), and MAF instances. The experimental results demonstrated the efficiency of the proposed local search method and the superiority of the proposed algorithm.

Heat Shock Factor A1s are required for phytochrome-interacting factor 4-mediated thermomorphogenesis in Arabidopsis

Thermomorphogenesis and the heat shock (HS) response are distinct thermal responses in plants that are regulated by PHYTOCHROME-INTERACTING FACTOR 4 (PIF4) and HEAT SHOCK FACTOR A1s (HSFA1s), respectively. Little is known about whether these responses are interconnected and whether they are activated by similar mechanisms. An analysis of transcriptome dynamics in response to warm temperature (28°C) treatment revealed that 30 min of exposure activated the expression of a subset of HSFA1 target genes in Arabidopsis thaliana. Meanwhile, a loss-of-function HSFA1 quadruple mutant (hsfa1-cq) was insensitive to warm temperature-induced hypocotyl growth. In hsfa1-cq plants grown at 28°C, the protein and transcript levels of PIF4 were greatly reduced, and the circadian rhythm of many thermomorphogenesis-related genes (including PIF4) was disturbed. Additionally, the nuclear localization of HSFA1s and the binding of HSFA1d to the PIF4 promoter increased following warm temperature exposure, whereas PIF4 overexpression in hsfa1-cq partially rescued the altered warm temperature-induced hypocotyl growth of the mutant. Taken together, these results suggest that HSFA1s are required for PIF4 accumulation at a warm temperature, and they establish a central role for HSFA1s in regulating both thermomorphogenesis and HS responses in Arabidopsis.

Manganese activates autophagy and microglia M2 polarization against endoplasmic reticulum stress-induced neuroinflammation: Involvement of GSK-3β signaling

BACKGROUND

Endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress-induced nerve cell damage has been known to be a hallmark feature of Mn-induced parkinsonism pathogenesis. However, several compensatory machineries, such as unfolded protein response (UPR), autophagy, and immune response, play an essential role in this damage, and the underlying molecular mechanisms are poorly understood.

METHODS

Neurobehavioral impairment was assessed using catwalk gait analysis and open field test. RNA-seq analyzed the differentially expressed genes (DEGs). TUNEL staining and immunohistochemical analysis evaluated the nerve cells apoptosis and microglial cell activation. Flow cytometry assay measured microglia M1/M2 polarization. Western blotting measured protein expression. Immunofluorescence staining was used to observe the target molecules' subcellular localization.

RESULTS

The study revealed that Mn caused a reduction in motor capacity, nerve cell apoptosis, and microglia activation with an imbalance in M1/M2 polarization, coupled with NF-κB signaling and PERK signaling activation. 4-PBA pretreatment could counteract these effects, while 3-MA administration exacerbated them. Additionally, autophagy could be activated by Mn. This activation could be further upregulated by 4-PBA pretreatment, whereas it was suppressed under 3-MA administration. Mn also decreased inactive GSK-3β, increased STAT3 signaling activation, and increased colocalization of GSK-3β and STAT3. These effects were strengthened by 4-PBA pretreatment, while 3-MA administration reversed them.

DISCUSSION

This study suggests that autophagy and M2 microglia polarization might be protective in Mn-induced ER stress damage, possibly through GSK-3β-ULK1 autophagy signaling and STAT3 signaling activation.

BLM mutation is associated with increased tumor mutation burden and improved survival after immunotherapy across multiple cancers

BACKGROUND

BLM encodes a RecQ DNA helicase that regulates genomic stability, and its mutations are associated with increased cancer susceptibility. Here, we show a multifaceted role of BLM mutations in tumorigenesis and immunotherapy.

METHODS AND RESULTS

A total of 10,967 cancer samples from the cancer genome atlas database were analyzed, 1.6% of which harbored BLM somatic mutations. BLM mutation was found to be associated with increased tumor mutation burden and more immune-active tumor microenvironment in these patients. Moreover, clinical data of 2785 patients from nine immunotherapy studies were analyzed to study BLM mutations' impact on immunotherapy. Among them, 69 patients harbored BLM mutations, and interestingly, they had significantly higher survival probability than patients without BLM mutations. Cancer patients with BLM mutations had higher complete response and partial response rates, but lower progressive disease rate than BLM nonmutant patients.

CONCLUSION

Our study shows that BLM mutation is related to improved survival after immunotherapy across multiple cancers.

Colloidal PbS Quantum Dot Photodiode Imager with Suppressed Dark Current

Lead sulfide (PbS) colloidal quantum dots (CQDs) for photodetectors (PDs) have garnered great attention due to their potential use as low-cost, high-performance, and large-area infrared focal plane arrays. The prevailing device architecture employed for PbS CQD PDs is the p-i-n structure, where PbS CQD films treated with thiol molecules, such as 1,2-ethanedithiol (EDT), are widely used as p-type layers due to their favorable band alignment. However, PbS-EDT films face a critical challenge associated with low film quality, resulting in many defects that curtail the device performance. Herein, a controlled oxidization process is developed for better surface passivation of the PbS-EDT transport layer. The dark current density (Jd) of PbS CQD PDs based on optimized PbS-EDT layer shows a dramatic decrease by nearly 2 orders of magnitude. The increase of carrier lifetime and suppression of carrier recombination via controlled oxidation in PbS-EDT CQDs were confirmed by transient absorption spectra and electrochemical impedance spectra. The device based on the optimized PbS-EDT hole transport layer (HTL) exhibits a specific detectivity (D*) that is 3.4 times higher compared to the control device. Finally, the CQD PD employing oxidization PbS-EDT CQDs is integrated with a thin film transistor (TFT) readout circuit, which successfully accomplishes material discrimination imaging, material occlusion imaging, and smoke penetration imaging. The controlled oxidization strategy verifies the significance of surface management of CQD solids and is expected to help advance infrared optoelectronic applications based on CQDs.

[Significance of triggering receptor expressed on myeloid cells-2 prognostic evaluation in hepatitis B virus-related acute-on-chronic liver failure]

Objective: To explore the significance of triggering receptor expressed on myeloid cells-2 (TREM-2) prognostic evaluation so as to provide novel biological markers in clinical practice for patients with hepatitis B virus-related acute-on-chronic liver failure ( HBV-ACLF). Methods: The research subjects of this study were divided into an experimental group and a control group. Fifty HBV-ACLF cases admitted to the Department of Infectious Diseases of the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanchang University from January 1, 2019 to December 31, 2019 were selected as the experimental group. Patients were divided into survival and death groups according to the actual prognosis at discharge (self-discharge and dead patients were considered death groups, and all enrolled patients were hospitalized for more than 28 days). Twenty-five healthy subjects were chosen as the control group. Peripheral venous blood was collected from the experimental group and the control group. Plasma and peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) were isolated. The concentrations of TREM-2, interleukin (IL)-6, and IL-8 were detected in the plasma. TREM-2 mRNA expression was detected in PBMC. A single blood sample was collected from the control group, whereas five blood samples were dynamically collected from the experimental group on the day of admittance and at 7, 14, 21, and 28 days after treatment commenced. Simultaneously, upon admission, the relevant clinical indicators of HBV-ACLF patients were monitored, including the liver function test: alanine aminotransferase, aspartate aminotransferase, total bilirubin, albumin, coagulation function test: international normalized ratio, prothrombin time, and other indicators. Measurement data were expressed as mean±standard deviation (x±s). Count data were compared and analyzed using the χ(2) test. The intra-group factor mean was compared using a repeated measures ANOVA. The means were analyzed by t-tests between the two groups. Bivariate correlation analysis was used to analyze the correlation between the two variables. The value of TREM-2 as a diagnostic marker was analyzed using the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve. Results: The mRNA expression of TREM-2 in the PBMC of HBV-ACLF patients showed a gradually increasing trend at various time points and was significantly higher in the survival group than that of the control group at 28 days (P < 0.01), while the death group showed a gradually weakening trend at various time points and was significantly lower than the control group at 28 days (P < 0.01). (1) The levels of TREM-2 in the plasma of HBV-ACLF patients generally showed a gradually increasing trend at various time points in the survival group. The levels on the day of admission and 7, 14, 21, and 28 days after the initiation of treatment were (1.49±0.85), (1.62±0.58), (1.95±0.69), (2.33±0.71), and (2.00±0.67) ng/ml, respectively. The expression of TREM-2 in the death group showed a gradually weakening trend at various time points. The levels on the day of admission and 7, 14, 21, and 28 days after initiation of treatment were (1.40±0.73), (1.59±0.79), (1.56±0.80), (1.05±0.49), and (0.81±0.21) ng/ml, respectively. The survival group's various detection time points were higher than those of the death group, and the difference was statistically significant. The plasma level of TREM-2 in the healthy control group was (1.25±0.35) ng/ml. (2) The concentrations of IL-6 and IL-8 in the plasma of HBV-ACLF patients showed a gradually decreasing trend at various time points in the survival group. The levels on the day of admission and 7, 14, 21, and 28 days after initiation of treatment were (46.70±26.31), (33.98±20.28), (19.07±10.24), (14.76±7.84), (9.12±7.65) and (108.29±47.07), (93.85±26.53), (79.27±34.63), (56.72 ±18.30), (37.81±13.88) pg/ml, respectively. However, its concentration in the death group fluctuated within a relatively high range. The levels on the day of admission and 7, 14, 21, and 28 days after the initiation of treatment were (41.94±24.19), (36.99±19.78), (34.30±20.62), (34.14±14.52), (36.64±23.61) and (104.65±50.16), (112.98±45.03), (118.43±45.00), (111.67±40.44), (109.55±27.54) pg/ml, respectively. (3) Bivariate correlation analysis results indicated that the plasma TREM-2 content was negatively correlated with the plasma levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines IL-6 and IL-8 (r = -0.224, P = 0.025; r = - 0.223, P = 0.026). ROC curve analysis showed that the mRNA levels of TREM-2 in PBMCs at various time points for prognostic evaluation of HBV-ACLF patients were 1d=0.667, 7d=0.757, 14d=0.979, 21d=0.986, and 28d= 0.993. The areas under the ROC curve of the TREM-2 content in the plasma at various time points were 1d=0.522, 7d=0.571, 14d=0.658, 21d=0.927, and 28d=0.994. Conclusion: TREM-2 mRNA expression in PBMC and TREM-2 content in plasma have a significant relationship to the prognosis of HBV-ACLF patients and may inhibit the liver inflammatory response by regulating the secretion of pro-inflammatory cytokines IL-6 and IL-8. Dynamic monitoring of TREM-2 expression in peripheral blood is favorable for evaluating the prognostic condition of HBV-ACLF patients.

Dual-signal and one-step monitoring of Staphylococcus aureus in milk using hybridization chain reaction based fluorescent sensor

Food-borne pathogens in dairy products that was contaminated from raw ingredients or improper food handling can cause a major threaten to human health. Here, to construct the pathogens detection, a dual-signal readout fluorescent switching sensor was designed for one-step determination of Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus), which was a marker of food contamination. Graphene oxide (GO) was used as a fluorescence quencher, while fluorophore-labeled hairpin DNA was used as a donor, resulting in fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) from the fluorophore to GO (signal off). Enzyme-free hybridization chain reaction could generate remarkable signal amplification, which avoided the nonspecific desorption caused by any enzymatic proteins in GO surface. With the strong binding ability of aptamer to S. aureus, a long bifluorescent molecules-labeled double-stranded DNA product was formed, bringing in dual-signal readout responses (signal on). Consequently, a reliable, sensitive and selective sensor was obtained for one-step quantification of S. aureus concentration from 10 to 108 CFU/mL with a detection limit of 1 CFU/mL. Furthermore, satisfactory stability, reproducibility, specificity and good recovery efficiency in milk samples revealed that the proposed sensor could be served as a prospective tool for food safety analysis.

Incidence of different pressure patterns of spinal cerebellar ataxia and analysis of imaging and genetic diagnosis

Neurologists have a difficult time identifying sporadic cerebellar ataxia. Multiple system atrophy of the cerebellar type (MSA-C), spontaneous late cortical cerebellar atrophy, and prolonged alcohol use are a few possible causes. In a group of people with sporadic cerebellar ataxia that was not MSA-C, an autosomal-dominant spinocerebellar ataxia (SCA) mutation was recently discovered. Chinese single-hospital cohort will be used in this study to genetic screen for SCA-related genes. One hundred forty individuals with CA were monitored over 8 years. Thirty-one individuals had familial CA, 109 patients had sporadic CA, 73 had MSA-C, and 36 had non-MSA-C sporadic CA. In 28 of the 31 non-MSA-C sporadic patients who requested the test, we carried out gene analysis, including SCA1, SCA2, SCA3, SCA6, SCA7, SCA8, SCA12, SCA17, SCA31, and dentatorubro-pallidoluysian atrophy (DRPLA). The control group consisted of family members of the patients. In 57% of the instances with spontaneous CA that were not MSA-C, gene abnormalities were discovered. The most frequent exception among individuals with sporadic CA was SCA6 (36%), followed by monsters in SCA1, 2, 3, 8, and DRPLA. In contrast, 75% of the patients with familial CA had gene abnormalities, the most frequent of which was SCA6 abnormality. The age of 69 vs 59 was higher, and the CAG repeat length was a minor age of 23 vs 25 in the former instances compared to the last one among individuals with SCA6 anomalies that were sporadic as opposed to familial cases. In sporadic CA, autosomal-dominant mutations in SCA genes, notably in SCA6, are common. Although the cause of the increased incidence of SCA6 mutations is unknown, it may be related to a greater age of onset and varied penetrance of SCA6 mutations.

[Efficacy observation and compliance analysis of pollen allergen drops in seasonal allergic rhinitis]

To study the efficacy and compliance analysis of pollen allergen drops in the treatment of allergic rhinitis. The method of single-center controlled was used to analyze the dates' results. From July 2021 to September 2021, 80 patients with seasonal allergic rhinitis were referred to the clinic of otorhinolaryngology in First Hospital of Shanxi Medical University.40 patients received sublingual immunotherapy (SLIT group), and the other 40 patients received symptomatic drug treatment as the control group. The total rhinoconjunctivitis symptom score (TRSS), the visual analogue scale(VAS), total medication score (TMS) and combined scores of medication and rhinoconjunctivitis symptoms (CSMRS) of the patient before the start of the treatment and after the first year of the treatment were compared to assess the efficacy of sublingual immunotherapy of Artemisia pollen. Follow the shedding during the study, the safety of the drug and the causes for compliance analysis were analyzed and recorded. The results of comparison with TRSS, VAS, TMS and CSMRS in two groups in the period of pretherapy were as follows: TRSS(12.393±3.023, 12.450±3.029, t=-0.077, P=0.939), VAS(8.357±1.026, 8.400±0.982, t=-0.173, P=0.862), TMS(3.214±0.568, 3.175±0.501, t=0.301, P=0.764), CSMRS (5.286±0.680, 5.253±0.677, t=0.199, P=0.843), there was no significant difference (P>0.05); lower observed symptom scores were got in the post-treatment pollen peak SLIT group compared to the control group, TRSS(3.964±1.551, 7.750±2.169, t=-7.918, P<0.05), VAS(2.893±0.956, 5.175±1.481, t=-8.286, P<0.05), TMS (1.821±0.863, 3.175±0.501, t=-8.163, P<0.05), CSMRS (2.489±0.921, 4.468±0.601, t=-10.723, P<0.05), and the differences between the groups were statistically significant (P<0.05); the SLIT group significantly reduced all symptom scores at the first peak compared to the starting, TRSS(12.393±3.023, 3.964±1.551, t=20.576, P<0.05), VAS (8.357±1.026, 2.893±0.956, t=30.070, P<0.05), TMS (3.214±0.568, 1.821±0.863, t=7.151, P<0.05), CSMRS(5.286±0.680, 2.489±0.921, t=14.533, P<0.05) and there was statistical difference (P<0.05). No significant adverse reactions occured during medication in the SLIT group. A total of 12 cases were shed in the SLIT group, so the compliance rate was 70%. The four reasons were that patients considered the course was long (4 cases, 33%); the drugs were expensive (3 cases, 25%); patients were busy with their work and life (3 cases, 25%); patients were affected by the outbreak (2 cases, 17%). In summary, Artemisia pollen sublingual drops may improve the symptoms of the patients who got allergic rhinitis caused by Artemisia pollen after the treatment for one year. However, due to the lack of sufficient understanding of immunotherapy or the difficulty in adhering to standardized medication, the compliance with sublingual immunotherapy is still poor, the compliance with sublingual immunotherapy needs to be further improved through patient education.

Penpulimab combined with anlotinib in patients with R/M HNSCC after failure of platinum-based chemotherapy: a single-arm, multicenter, phase Ⅱ study

BACKGROUND

Treatment regimens for recurrent or metastatic head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (R/M HNSCC) after failure of platinum-based chemotherapy have been illustrated with limited efficacy.

PATIENTS AND METHODS

Here, we report a single-arm, multicenter, phase Ⅱ study of R/M HNSCC patients treated with a programmed cell death-1 antibody penpulimab (200 mg) and anlotinib (12 mg) after failing at least one line of platinum-based chemotherapy.

RESULTS

Of 38 patients in total, 13 (34.21%) patients achieved partial response and 16 (42.11%) patients achieved stable disease. After a median follow-up of 7.06 months (range: 4.14-15.70 months), the independent review committee-assessed objective response rate was 34.21%, the disease control rate was 76.32%. The median progression-free survival was 8.35 months (95% confidence interval 5.95-13.11 months). Twelve patients died and the median overall survival (OS) was not reached. The 12-month OS rate was 59.76%. Grade 3/4 treatment-related adverse events occurred in 47.37% of the patients.

CONCLUSION

Penpulimab combined with anlotinib demonstrated promising efficacy and manageable safety in R/M HNSCC patients after failure of platinum-based chemotherapy.

The contribution of typhoon local and remote forcings to storm surge along the Makou-Dahengqin tidal reach of Pearl River Estuary

Due to the interaction between upstream discharge and astronomical tides in tidal reaches, the typhoon-induced storm surge processes are quite different from that in other coastal regions. Investigating the contributions of driving factors is essential to deepen the understanding of storm surges in tidal reaches. In this study, a coupled hydrological-hydrodynamic storm surge model is first developed to explore the main driving factors of storm surges in Makou-Dahengqin tidal reach during the three most influential typhoon events (Hagupit, Hato and Mangkhut). After that, the machine learning method is integrated to assess the water level in response to storm surges. The driving factors of storm surge are decomposed into remote forcing (upstream discharge, astronomical tide) and direct local forcing (wind stress, atmospheric pressure). The relative contributions of remote forcing are the highest near the estuary mouth. The relative contributions of local forcing to water levels are higher in the sections 40-80 km away from the estuary mouth. The most impacting period of the local forcing is about 48 h, while the relative contributions of remote forcing increase before and after the period. The local forcing-induced surges are highest at the upper reach during Hagupit, while it causes extreme surges at the estuary mouth during more powerful typhoons (Hato, Mangkhut). The maximum water levels and remote forcing-induced maximum surges invariably appear at the upper reach. However, when local and remote forcings are in the same phase, the maximum storm surge appears in the lower reaches during Hato. If local and remote forcings are in the same phase, the peak water levels would be amplified by up to 15.04 %, 36.23 % and 40.68 % during Hagupit, Hato and Mangkhut, respectively. Moreover, Remote forcing contributes more to the amplification of peak water levels than local forcing does, accounting for 68.5 % to 100 %.

Extended X-ray absorption fine structure of dynamically-compressed copper up to 1 terapascal

Large laser facilities have recently enabled material characterization at the pressures of Earth and Super-Earth cores. However, the temperature of the compressed materials has been largely unknown, or solely relied on models and simulations, due to lack of diagnostics under these challenging conditions. Here, we report on temperature, density, pressure, and local structure of copper determined from extended x-ray absorption fine structure and velocimetry up to 1 Terapascal. These results nearly double the highest pressure at which extended x-ray absorption fine structure has been reported in any material. In this work, the copper temperature is unexpectedly found to be much higher than predicted when adjacent to diamond layer(s), demonstrating the important influence of the sample environment on the thermal state of materials; this effect may introduce additional temperature uncertainties in some previous experiments using diamond and provides new guidance for future experimental design.

Stepwise taming of triplet excitons via multiple confinements in intrinsic polymers for long-lived room-temperature phosphorescence

Polymeric materials exhibiting room temperature phosphorescence (RTP) show a promising application potential. However, the conventional ways of preparing such materials are mainly focused on doping, which may suffer from phase separation, poor compatibility, and lack of effective methods to promote intersystem crossing and suppress the nonradiative deactivation rates. Herein, we present an intrinsically polymeric RTP system producing long-lived phosphorescence, high quantum yields and multiple colors by stepwise structural confinement to tame triplet excitons. In this strategy, the performance of the materials is improved in two aspects simultaneously: the phosphorescence lifetime of one polymer (9VA-B) increased more than 4 orders of magnitude, and the maximum phosphorescence quantum yield reached 16.04% in halogen-free polymers. Moreover, crack detection is realized by penetrating steam through the materials exposed to humid surroundings as a special quenching effect, and the information storage is carried out by employing the Morse code and the variations in lifetimes. This study provides a different strategy for constructing intrinsically polymeric RTP materials toward targeted applications.

Genome-wide identification and analysis of TMT-based proteomes in longissimus dorsi tissue from Kazakh cattle and Xinjiang brown cattle

With the gradual completion of the human genome project, proteomes have gained extremely important value in the fields of human disease and biological process research. In our previous research, we performed transcriptomic analyses of longissimus dorsi tissue from Kazakh cattle and Xinjiang brown cattle and conducted in-depth studies on the muscles of both species through epigenetics. However, it is unclear whether differentially expressed proteins in Kazakh cattle and Xinjiang brown cattle regulate muscle production and development. In this study, a proteomic analysis was performed on Xinjiang brown cattle and Kazakh cattle by using TMT markers, HPLC classification, LC/MS and bioinformatics analysis. A total of 13,078 peptides were identified, including 11,258 unique peptides. We identified a total of 1874 proteins, among which 1565 were quantifiable. Compared to Kazakh cattle, Xinjiang brown cattle exhibited 75 upregulated proteins and 44 downregulated proteins. These differentially expressed proteins were enriched for the functions of adrenergic signaling in cardiomyocytes, fatty acid degradation and glutathione metabolism. In our research, we found differentially expressed proteins in longissimus dorsi tissue between Kazakh cattle and Xinjiang brown cattle. We predict that these proteins regulate muscle production and development through select enriched signaling pathways. This study provides novel insights into the roles of proteomes in cattle genetics and breeding.

iPS-cell-derived microglia promote brain organoid maturation via cholesterol transfer

Microglia are specialized brain-resident macrophages that arise from primitive macrophages colonizing the embryonic brain1. Microglia contribute to multiple aspects of brain development, but their precise roles in the early human brain remain poorly understood owing to limited access to relevant tissues2-6. The generation of brain organoids from human induced pluripotent stem cells recapitulates some key features of human embryonic brain development7-10. However, current approaches do not incorporate microglia or address their role in organoid maturation11-21. Here we generated microglia-sufficient brain organoids by coculturing brain organoids with primitive-like macrophages generated from the same human induced pluripotent stem cells (iMac)22. In organoid cocultures, iMac differentiated into cells with microglia-like phenotypes and functions (iMicro) and modulated neuronal progenitor cell (NPC) differentiation, limiting NPC proliferation and promoting axonogenesis. Mechanistically, iMicro contained high levels of PLIN2+ lipid droplets that exported cholesterol and its esters, which were taken up by NPCs in the organoids. We also detected PLIN2+ lipid droplet-loaded microglia in mouse and human embryonic brains. Overall, our approach substantially advances current human brain organoid approaches by incorporating microglial cells, as illustrated by the discovery of a key pathway of lipid-mediated crosstalk between microglia and NPCs that leads to improved neurogenesis.

[Safety of double and a half layered esophagojejunal anastomosis in radical gastrectomy: A prospective, multi-center, single arm trial]

Objective: To evaluate the safety of double and a half layered esophagojejunal anastomosis in radical gastrectomy. Methods: This prospective, multi-center, single-arm study was initiated by the Affiliated Cancer Hospital of Zhengzhou University in June 2021 (CRAFT Study, NCT05282563). Participating institutions included Nanyang Central Hospital, Zhumadian Central Hospital, Luoyang Central Hospital, First Affiliated Hospital of Henan Polytechnic University, First Affiliated Hospital of Henan University, Luohe Central Hospital, the People's Hospital of Hebi, First People's Hospital of Shangqiu, Anyang Tumor Hospital, First People's Hospital of Pingdingshan, and Zhengzhou Central Hospital Affiliated to Zhengzhou University. Inclusion criteria were as follows: (1) gastric adenocarcinoma confirmed by preoperative gastroscopy;(2) preoperative imaging assessment indicated that R0 resection was feasible; (3) preoperative assessment showed no contraindications to surgery;(4) esophagojejunostomy planned during the procedure; (5) patients volunteered to participate in this study and gave their written informed consent; (6) ECOG score 0-1; and (7) ASA score I-III. Exclusion criteria were as follows: (1) history of upper abdominal surgery (except laparoscopic cholecystectomy);(2) history of gastric surgery (except endoscopic submucosal dissection and endoscopic mucosal resection); (3) pregnancy or lactation;(4) emergency surgery for gastric cancer-related complications (perforation, hemorrhage, obstruction); (5) other malignant tumors within 5 years or coexisting malignant tumors;(6) arterial embolism within 6 months, such as angina pectoris, myocardial infarction, and cerebrovascular accident; and (7) comorbidities or mental health abnormalities that could affect patients' participation in the study. Patients were eliminated from the study if: (1) radical gastrectomy could not be completed; (2) end-to-side esophagojejunal anastomosis was not performed during the procedure; or (3) esophagojejunal anastomosis reinforcement was not possible. Double and a half layered esophagojejunal anastomosis was performed as follows: (1) Open surgery: the full thickness of the anastomosis is continuously sutured, followed by embedding the seromuscular layer with barbed or 3-0 absorbable sutures. The anastomosis is sutured with an average of six to eight stitches. (2) Laparoscopic surgery: the anastomosis is strengthened by counterclockwise full-layer sutures. Once the anastomosis has been sutured to the right posterior aspect of the anastomosis, the jejunum stump is pulled to the right and the anastomosis turned over to continue to complete reinforcement of the posterior wall. The suture interval is approximately 5 mm. After completing the full-thickness suture, the anastomosis is embedded in the seromuscular layer. Relevant data of patients who had undergone radical gastrectomy in the above 12 centers from June 2021 were collected and analyzed. The primary outcome was safety (e.g., postoperative complications, and treatment). Other studied variables included details of surgery (e.g., surgery time, intraoperative bleeding), postoperative recovery (postoperative time to passing flatus and oral intake, length of hospital stay), and follow-up conditions (quality of life as assessed by Visick scores). Result: [1] From June 2021 to September 2022,457 patients were enrolled, including 355 men and 102 women of median age 60.8±10.1 years and BMI 23.7±3.2 kg/m2. The tumors were located in the upper stomach in 294 patients, mid stomach in 139; and lower stomach in 24. The surgical procedures comprised 48 proximal gastrectomies and 409 total gastrectomies. Neoadjuvant chemotherapy was administered to 85 patients. Other organs were resected in 85 patients. The maximum tumor diameter was 4.3±2.2 cm, number of excised lymph nodes 28.3±15.2, and number of positive lymph nodes five (range one to four. As to pathological stage,83 patients had Stage I disease, 128 Stage II, 237 Stage III, and nine Stage IV. [2] The studied surgery-related variables were as follows: The operation was successfully completed in all patients, 352 via a transabdominal approach, 25 via a transhiatus approach, and 80 via a transthoracoabdominal approach. The whole procedure was performed laparoscopically in 53 patients (11.6%), 189 (41.4%) underwent laparoscopic-assisted surgery, and 215 (47.0%) underwent open surgery. The median intraoperative blood loss was 200 (range, 10-1 350) mL, and the operating time 215.6±66.7 minutes. The anastomotic reinforcement time was 2 (7.3±3.9) minutes for laparoscopic-assisted surgery, 17.6±1.7 minutes for total laparoscopy, and 6.0±1.2 minutes for open surgery. [3] The studied postoperative variables were as follows: The median time to postoperative passage of flatus was 3.1±1.1 days and the postoperative gastrointestinal angiography time 6 (range, 4-13) days. The median time to postoperative oral intake was 7 (range, 2-14) days, and the postoperative hospitalization time 15.8±6.7 days. [4] The safety-related variables were as follows: In total, there were 184 (40.3%) postoperative complications. These comprised esophagojejunal anastomosis complications in 10 patients (2.2%), four (0.9%) being anastomotic leakage (including two cases of subclinical leakage and two of clinical leakage; all resolved with conservative treatment); and six patients (1.3%) with anastomotic stenosis (two who underwent endoscopic balloon dilation 21 and 46 days after surgery, the others improved after a change in diet). There was no anastomotic bleeding. Non-anastomotic complications occurred in 174 patients (38.1%). All patients attended for follow-up at least once, the median follow-up time being 10 (3-18) months. Visick grades were as follows: Class I, 89.1% (407/457); Class II, 7.9% (36/457); Class III, 2.6% (12/457); and Class IV 0.4% (2/457). Conclusion: Double and a half layered esophagojejunal anastomosis in radical gastrectomy is safe and feasible.

Coded aperture snapshot hyperspectral light field tomography

Multidimensional imaging has emerged as a powerful technology capable of simultaneously acquiring spatial, spectral, and depth information about a scene. However, existing approaches often rely on mechanical scanning or multi-modal sensing configurations, leading to prolonged acquisition times and increased system complexity. Coded aperture snapshot spectral imaging (CASSI) has introduced compressed sensing to recover three-dimensional (3D) spatial-spectral datacubes from single snapshot two-dimensional (2D) measurements. Despite its advantages, the reconstruction problem remains severely underdetermined due to the high compression ratio, resulting in limited spatial and spectral reconstruction quality. To overcome this challenge, we developed a novel two-stage cascaded compressed sensing scheme called coded aperture snapshot hyperspectral light field tomography (CASH-LIFT). By appropriately distributing the computation load to each stage, this method utilizes the compressibility of natural scenes in multiple domains, reducing the ill-posed nature of datacube recovery and achieving enhanced spatial resolution, suppressed aliasing artifacts, and improved spectral fidelity. Additionally, leveraging the snapshot 3D imaging capability of LIFT, our approach efficiently records a five-dimensional (5D) plenoptic function in a single snapshot.
