Abstract
Sexual minority men (SMM) are disproportionately affected by HIV. Although pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) is an effective way of reducing HIV incidence, PrEP use has remained relatively low. Social support may be one effective factor in increasing PrEP use among SMM, but the association between social support and PrEP use/adherence is not well understood. The objective of this paper was to summarize the current literature on the association of social support and PrEP use among SMM in the United States. A systematic search was conducted using six different databases MEDLINE / PubMed, PsycINFO, Cochrane CENTRAL, Google Scholar, Embase, and Web of Science using terms established from keywords and medical subject headings (MeSH) terms before being adapted to each database. Data were extracted for key study factors (e.g., study population, geographic location, study design) and main findings. This search produced eleven articles: ten manuscripts and one conference abstract. Of these, two were randomized control trials, two were interventions, three were qualitative, and four were cross-sectional. The studies were widespread across the country, but most were in major metropolitan areas. From the articles included in this review, findings were inconsistent in the association between social support; some studies showed null findings, others that only certain sources of social support were significant, and others that there was a significant association between social support and PrEP use. This review highlights the complexity of the relationship between social support and PrEP use among SMM, indicating the need for further research to identify specific types and sources of support that effectively enhance PrEP uptake and adherence. Targeted interventions based on these insights could significantly reduce HIV incidence in the population.

Abstract
This study draws on social normative and social learning theories to examine the masspersonal safer sex communication (i.e., Facebook posts about safer sex) and safer sex behavior (i.e., condom use) in a cohort of Black sexual minority men (BSMM) (N = 340), with an eye toward understanding their relationship with the safer sex communication and behaviors of their BSMM Facebook friends. Using linear network autocorrelation regression models, results showed that BSMM's safer sex communication and condom use behavior were each associated with the communication and behavior of their online peers. Specifically, BSMM's condom use was positively associated with their friends' condom use and friends' safer sex communication, and BSMMs' safer sex communication was positively associated with friends' safer sex communication. Moreover, contrary to prior research, BSSM's safer sex communication and condom use were not related to one another, suggesting that talking about safer sex on social media should not be interpreted to be an indication of engageDment in safer sex behavior. These findings underscore an opportunity to leverage peer influence in social media networks, particularly in the form of masspersonal communication, to encourage cascades of safer sex messaging among peers and adoption of safer sex behavior.

Abstract
Although parents of sexual and gender minority (SGM) adolescents play a critical role in communicating about sexual health to their children, most parents have reported that they are unknowledgeable and uncomfortable talking about sexual health to their SGM adolescent. Because of the limited availability of sex education programs for parents of SGM adolescents, the study aimed to (1) describe the attitudes toward using and willingness to use a hypothetical online sex communication intervention for parents of SGM adolescents and (2) examine factors associated with willingness to use such an intervention. Parents of SGM adolescents from across the United States (N = 385) completed an online survey from March 10-16, 2023. Most participants were open to participating in a hypothetical online sex communication program and had positive attitudes toward it. Logistic regression results showed that participants who overall agreed a hypothetical online parent-based sex education intervention would be helpful and of interest had higher odds of being overall willing to participate in such a hypothetical intervention. Additionally, participants with higher income levels were also more likely to be willing to participate in a hypothetical program. Results from this exploratory study suggest that most parents of SGM adolescents have positive attitudes toward a hypothetical online parent-based sex education program and are willing to participate in it, highlighting a need to develop sex education programs tailored to the needs and preferences of parents of SGM adolescents. Additionally, equitable access to such programs is necessary especially regarding income level.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Latino men who have sex with men (LMSM) are disproportionally affected by HIV infections in the USA. The uptake rate of pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) for HIV prevention has remained low among LMSM. Long-acting injectable PrEP (LAI-PrEP) may have the potential to improve structural, behavioral, and cognitive barriers to adherence. Given the potential benefits of LAI-PrEP and the limited data with this population, the aim of our study was to explore experiences and attitudes of LAI-PrEP among LMSM and identify implementation barriers compared to the standard oral presentation, align proposed implementation strategies, and propose outcomes to monitor and assess impact. METHODS In this qualitative study, guided by the Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research, we explored health care providers perspectives on facilitators and barriers to LAI-PrEP implementation strategies for LMSM. Interviews were recorded, transcribed, and analyzed using thematic content analysis. RESULTS Fear of immigration policies, ability to conceal PrEP medication, health insurance coverage, health information fatigue, lack of culturally adapted information, and provider's lack of knowledge were among the main barriers to LAI-PrEP. Most providers discussed the need for adapted and/or tailored training materials for and suggested designing marketing materials and specific clinical recommendations for LAI-PrEP. CONCLUSION In order to ensure an effective adaptation process that encompasses local and national goals of HIV prevention, future interventions should be designed in a way that incorporates culturally relevant information for LMSM. This study provides an implementation research logic model to guide future studies.

Abstract
Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) is a highly effective HIV prevention option for gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men (GBMSM). However, with newer PrEP options, a greater understanding of whether and why GBMSM switch dosing strategies is needed to inform clinical practice and research. We assessed the dosing strategies (daily or on-demand) of GBMSM enrolled in an mHealth PrEP adherence pilot intervention at four timepoints over approximately 10 months. Among GBMSM with complete data (n = 66), a consistent daily dosing strategy was used by most (73%) participants across all time points, while on-demand PrEP was used at least once during the study period by 27% of participants. A higher percentage of on-demand PrEP users self-reported as Asian/Pacific Islander and had less positive attitudes toward PrEP, adjusting for key sociodemographic variables and intervention arm. Daily PrEP users reported high numbers of sexual partners, and the primary reason that they would switch to on-demand PrEP is reduced sexual activity. At the final assessment, 75% of participants were taking daily PrEP, of whom 27% reported that they would like to switch to another option, including on-demand and long-acting injectable PrEP. While findings were largely descriptive, they showed that switches in PrEP dosing strategies are relatively common and PrEP strategy choice may vary across racial and ethnic groups.

Abstract
BACKGROUND This study addresses the gap in the literature on protective factors for preexposure prophylaxis (PrEP) stigma and attitudes among Black men who have sex with men (BMSM) and young adults using the Developmental Assets Framework to examine how external assets (eg, family support, open family communication, and communication with parents about sex and drugs) can help reduce stigma and increase positive attitudes toward PrEP use. METHODS A cross-sectional survey was administered to participants (N = 400, mean age = 23.46, standard deviation = 2.59) using Amazon Mechanical Turk, social media sites, and community-based organization. A path analysis was conducted to examine associations between stigma and positive attitudes toward PrEP among external assets (family support, communication with parents about sex and drugs, and open family communication). RESULTS Communication with parents about sex and drugs was positive and directly associated with PrEP stigma (β = 0.42, P < 0.001). Family support was negative and indirectly associated with stigma associated with PrEP (β = -0.20, P < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS This is the first study to use a developmental asset framework to assess positive PrEP attitudes and stigma among young BMSM. Our results underscore that parents have an influence on human immunodeficiency virus prevention behaviors for BMSM. In addition, their influence can be both positive by helping lowering PrEP stigma and negatively lowering PrEP attitudes. It is critical that we develop culturally competent human immunodeficiency virus and sexuality prevention and intervention programs for BMSM and their families.

Abstract
Primary care providers (PCPs) are critical in prescribing human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) to adolescents at risk of HIV. More research is needed to identify facilitators and barriers PCPs encounter in prescribing PrEP to eligible adolescents post-Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval. This online cross-sectional survey examined the PrEP implementation facilitators and barriers among a national sample of PCPs in the United States. PCPs (n = 502) specializing in family medicine or pediatrics were recruited from a Qualtrics panel from July 15 to August 9, 2022. We analyzed the collected data using content analysis and applied the Expert Recommendations for Implementing Change (ERIC) to codebook creation and data analysis. We conducted a Fisher's exact chi-square test of independence to compare facilitator and barrier prevalence differences between participants who had and had not prescribed PrEP to an adolescent patient. Results demonstrate that (1) distributing prescriber-focused educational materials, (2) involving parents, (3) changing liability laws, (4) enhancing adolescent PrEP uptake and adherence, (5) changing clinical resources, and (6) using mass/social media to change community norms might be strategies that influence PCPs prescribing PrEP to eligible adolescent patients. Results from this study could facilitate the planning of hybrid implementation-effectiveness trials designed to determine the acceptability, feasibility, and effectiveness of implementation strategies in improving the practices of PCPs prescribing PrEP to at-risk adolescents.

Abstract
Parents can have a substantial impact on adolescent sexual decision-making, but few studies have explored the role of parents in providing sexual health information to transgender and non-binary (TNB) youth, a population that experiences significant sexual and mental health disparities and lower levels of perceived family support compared with other youth. This study aimed to elucidate existing knowledge gaps and content deemed important for a sexual health curriculum and educational materials for parents of TNB youth. We conducted 21 qualitative interviews with five parents of TNB youth, 11 TNB youth aged 18+, and five healthcare affiliates to identify parents' educational needs. We analyzed the data using theoretical thematic analysis and consensus coding. Parents self-reported multiple knowledge deficits regarding gender/sexual health for TNB individuals and were primarily concerned with long-term impacts of medical interventions. Youth goals for parents included greater understanding of gender/sexuality and sufficient knowledge to support youth through social transition to their affirmed gender identity. Content areas suggested for a future curriculum for parents of TNB youth included: basics of gender/sexuality, diverse narratives of TNB experiences/identities, gender dysphoria, non-medical gender-affirming interventions, medical gender-affirming interventions, and resources for peer support. Parents desired access to accurate information and wanted to feel equipped to facilitate affirming conversations with their child, something that could combat health disparities among TNB youth. An educational curriculum for parents has the potential to provide a trusted information source, expose parents to positive representations of TNB individuals, and help parents support their TNB child through decisions about potential gender-affirming interventions.

Abstract
Although parents of sexual and gender minority (SGM) adolescents are key stakeholders in SGM adolescents using HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), there is limited understanding of parental concerns and attitudes about their SGM adolescents taking PrEP. Fifty-four parents in the West South Central region of the U.S. completed an online, mixed-method, cross-sectional questionnaire to explore their concerns and questions about PrEP. Quantitative and qualitative results show that participants were more concerned about side effects, drug interactions, (non)adherence, and eligibility and duration of PrEP. Parents are less worried about picking PrEP from a pharmacy or returning to follow-up lab testing every three months. Most parents reported receiving medication information their adolescent takes from a medical provider and the media. Findings from this study can inform the development of parent-based PrEP interventions. Without further parent-based research and programming, SGM adolescents may continue to be disproportionately affected by HIV.

Abstract
Rates of pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) uptake for HIV prevention continue to increase rapidly among men who have sex with men (MSM) in the United States (U.S.); however, these increases have been slower among young MSM. Emerging adulthood (ages 18-25) is a time of transitions and social development, resulting in increased vulnerability to HIV. Analyzing data from a cross-sectional survey of emerging adult MSM (ages 18-25 years; n = 281) in the Mid-Atlantic urban metropolitan region of the U.S., we examined how social identity support, descriptive PrEP norms, and economic instability were related to PrEP engagement. In structural equation models, PrEP norms were directly associated with PrEP engagement (β = 0.29, 95% CI = [0.12,0.46]) and social identity support was indirectly associated with PrEP engagement through its association with descriptive PrEP norms (β = 0.18, 95% CI = [0.09,0.28]). Economic instability was not significantly associated with PrEP engagement, although a negative trend was present (β = -0.19, 95% CI = [-0.39,0.02]). Our results suggest that an integrative socioecological model is appropriate for the study of PrEP engagement among emerging adult MSM. Efforts to increase PrEP engagement should support community capacity building, amplify positive descriptive PrEP norms, and address unmet economic needs.

Abstract
Given their disproportionate HIV incidence, there is a critical need to identify factors related to HIV risk among Black young men who have sex with men (YMSM) in the southeastern United States. This study investigated the association of family factors and HIV-related outcomes among Black YMSM in Mississippi ages 14-20 (n = 72). Multivariable regression models evaluated associations of family factors and outcomes. Greater parent/child communication about sex was associated with fewer lifetime male sex partners and lower odds of lifetime anal sex. Greater parental monitoring was associated with greater likelihood of future condom use. Sexual orientation disclosure was associated with more lifetime male sex partners. Parental monitoring and parent/child communication about sex were protective, suggesting that family-based interventions are promising for HIV prevention among Black YMSM in Mississippi. Results also indicated that YMSM who are "out" to family are important to reach, and families could be useful in encouraging healthy behaviors.

Abstract
Between one to two-thirds of HIV infections among gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men are from primary partners, and there has been increased research attention focused on strategies to increase PrEP adoption among male couples. While there is evidence that partner support is a strong correlate of pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) adoption, there has been a lack of attention on PrEP communication dynamics among male couples. In this paper, we build upon this literature through analysis of dyadic data from a large cross-sectional survey of 543 concordant sero-negative and serodiscordant male couples to examine individual and relationship factors associated with reports of partner communication around PrEP, comfort in discussing PrEP, and perceived partner-level support for PrEP use. PrEP use was relatively low (16.2%), and although 87.5% of men reported their partners would support their PrEP use, only 26.3% had talked to their partner recently about PrEP. PrEP communication and perceived support for PrEP were significantly negatively associated with PrEP stigma and stigma based on sexuality (i.e., internalized homophobia and enacted external stigma based on sexuality), while men with sexual agreements were more comfortable talking about PrEP with their partner. There is a need to adapt current interventions, or develop new dyadic interventions, that provide opportunities for male couples to talk and learn about PrEP together, as a potential pathway to engage them toward PrEP use.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Human papillomavirus (HPV) is epidemic among young people, especially those at highest risk of acquiring HPV-related cancers. METHODS Youth aged 14-24 years old (N = 1628) were recruited from 13 clinics, community agencies, and social media sites in Los Angeles, California, and New Orleans, Louisiana, that specialized in serving sexual and gender minority youths (SGMY), especially males at risk for HIV. A cross-sectional comparison of sociodemographic and risk histories of HPV vaccinated/unvaccinated youths was conducted using both univariate and multivariate regressions. RESULTS About half (51.9%) of youth were vaccinated, with similar percentages across states and across genders. Sexual and gender minority youths (SGMY, i.e., gay, bisexual, transgender, and non-heterosexual; 68.8%) and their heterosexual peers (15%) were equally likely to be vaccinated (54%), even though their risk for HPV-related cancers is very different. Vaccinations were higher among younger youth, those not using condoms, youth with greater education, that possessed a primary health care provider, and youth diagnosed with HIV. Vaccinations were lower among youth that were out-of-home due to mental health inpatient hospitalization, drug treatment, homelessness, or incarceration. CONCLUSIONS Special programs are required to target youth experiencing multiple life stressors, especially out-of-home experiences, those with less education, and without the safety net of health insurance or a provider.

Abstract
Protective effects of talk with parents about sex, for delaying sex and reducing young people's risky sexual behaviour may extend from adolescence to emerging adulthood. However, little is known about the content and process of this communication, or how parents and their emerging adult children perceive their conversations about sex and relationships. This study offers a novel exploration of family talk about sex during emerging adulthood and addresses topics that are not typically assessed as part of communication research, such as consent and positive talk about sexuality. This study uses thematic analysis to investigate perceptions of family talk about sex in a qualitative sample of 16 pairs of parents and their emerging adult children in the USA, and includes talk about protection, sexual behaviour, pregnancy and parenting; the positive aspects of sex; consent; and sexual orientation. Findings identified variation across topics in terms of 1) similarities and differences in parents' and emerging adults' comfort in talking with each other about sexual topics; and 2) how they perceive this communication across a range of sexual issues. Findings can inform the development of resources to support parents on how to talk with their emerging adult children about sexual issues in a developmentally appropriate way.

Abstract
This study employs the ecodevelopmental theory to examine the influence of mother and father bonding, family engagement in healthcare, and family support on PrEP stigma among BLMSM. We used a cross-sectional sample from wave five of the Healthy Young Men (HYM) study, with a survey sample of 399 participants aged 16−24 years. We conducted two-path analyses to test multiple hypotheses: (1) mother/father bonding is associated with an increase in family engagement in healthcare; (2) family engagement in healthcare is associated with family social support; and (3) family social support is associated with PrEP stigma. Family social support was negatively correlated with PrEP stigma (r = −0.15; p < 0.001). The findings show that families either led by a Black/Latino father or mother have a significant impact on the sexual health-seeking behavior of BLMSM and their perception of HIV and PrEP.

Abstract
Parent–child communication about sex and relationships can protect adolescents from risky sexual behaviors, but few studies investigate how family talk may change over the course of development from adolescence to emerging adulthood. This current study uses thematic analysis to explore continuity and change in perceived talk with parents about sex and relationships, following a United States sample of 15 adolescent participants over three time points: early adolescence (age 13–14), middle adolescence (age 15–16), and emerging adulthood (age 20–21). Analyses addressed participants’ experiences of talk with parents about sex and relationships (comfort, engagement) and the content of talk: dating and relationships, pregnancy and parenting, protection, STIs, and sexual behavior. Findings show that family communication about sex and relationships extends from early adolescence to emerging adulthood, but changes in content to reflect shifts in adolescent and emerging adult development. Further, while positive engagement and comfort with talk about sex remain relatively high over time, participants’ discomfort and negative engagement appear to increase, highlighting challenges for ongoing family communication. These findings suggest a meaningful, ongoing role for parents in family communication about sex and relationships as their children develop, and suggest some opportunities and challenges that parents may face through this process.

Abstract
Researching PrEP retention in adolescent sexual minority men (ASMM) is critical to increasing persistence of PrEP in this priority population, yet this research is lacking. ASMM (N = 1433) completed a baseline survey for an online HIV prevention program between 2018 and 2020. Open- and closed-ended survey items identified their beliefs about attending 3-month PrEP follow-up appointments and examined the association of Andersen's Behavioral Model factors (predisposing, enabling, and need) and confidence to attend these appointments. Qualitative and quantitative findings show that perceived parental support is a salient factor in ASMM attending PrEP follow-up appointments. Participants did not want to have to go to the doctor and get bloodwork done trimonthly, and qualitative findings elucidated rationales for this, such as perceptions that follow-ups might be time-consuming, costly, and could out their sexuality to their parents. This study suggests that parents are gatekeepers for ASMM to initiate and sustain the PrEP care continuum.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Our study sought to assess the interplay of family dynamics, namely familial warmth and LGBTQ+ specific rejection, and its association to self-esteem in a non-probabilistic sample of LGBTQ+ adolescents in the United States. METHODS Stratified by (1) cisgender and (2) transgender and non-binary LGBTQ+ adolescents (N = 8774), we tested multivariable regression analyses to assess the association between familial warmth and LGBTQ+ specific family rejection, adjusted for sociodemographic characteristics. We then conducted a sub-analysis with LGBTQ+ adolescents who reported being out to any family member about their LGBTQ+ identity; specifically, we tested a series of multivariable regression models to assess whether levels of LGBTQ+ specific family rejection attenuated the association between familial warmth and self-esteem. RESULTS Full sample models indicated a positive association between familial warmth and self-esteem. Findings from our sub-analysis indicated that familial warmth remained positively linked to self-esteem and family rejection was negatively associated with self-esteem. Family rejection was a statistically significant moderator, attenuating the association between familial warmth and self-esteem. With respect to being out about one's sexual orientation, these findings were robust across gender stratification groups. CONCLUSIONS Families of origin serve as sources of stress and resilience for LGBTQ+ adolescents. Our findings contribute support to arguments that familial warmth and LGBTQ+ specific rejection are not mutually-exclusive experiences among LGBTQ+ adolescents. We provide recommendations for multilevel interventions to leverage activities that support positive family dynamics and self-esteem among LGBTQ+ adolescents.
