Abstract
The study investigates the health-related quality of life (HRQoL) of elementary-aged children with developmental disabilities in Singapore, focusing on the influences of individual and family factors. Data from 113 students from special education schools was examined, with data collected from parents, teachers, and direct assessments of the children. The Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory (PedsQL) was used to measure HRQoL across four domains: physical, emotional, social, and school functioning. Results showed that children with developmental disabilities generally experience lower HRQoL compared to typically developing peers, with the social functioning domain presenting the greatest challenges. Executive functioning difficulties emerged as the most significant predictor of overall HRQoL, affecting all domains, particularly social and school functioning. Parental psychological well-being was also significantly associated with children's emotional functioning, highlighting the broader influence of family factors on children's well-being. This study contributes to the literature by examining a broad-based sample in a multicultural Asian context. Results underscores the importance of addressing both child-specific challenges, such as executive functioning, and family-centered interventions to improve parental mental wellbeing. In the pursuit of positive quality of life for children with developmental disabilities across multiple domains, this study's findings highlight the need for a multi-component approach. Limitations and future directions, including the use of proxy reports and the need for culturally relevant interventions, are discussed.

Abstract
Background/objectives: Juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) is the most common rheumatic disease in childhood, leading to severe disability and negatively affecting patients' health-related quality of life (HRQoL). The aim of this systematic review was to evaluate the adoption, reporting and assessment methodology of HRQoL in phase III clinical trials involving children with JIA. Methods: An electronic and manual search was conducted to identify primary and secondary publications of pharmacological trials conducted between 2012 and 2023. Data were extracted and recorded in duplicate. Results: A total of 222 studies were screened and 24 articles (22 primary and 2 secondary publications) were included in the review. HRQoL was not listed among the endpoints in 10 trials (45.5%), while it was a secondary endpoint in 12 trials (54.5%). The proportion of trials that did not consider HRQoL was equally relevant in both for-profit and no-profit settings (44.4% versus 50.0%), but it was higher in studies on systemic JIA compared to other JIA subtypes (62.5%), and on IL inhibitor treatment (72.7%) with respect to other disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs. Information on HRQoL was usually collected from parents/caregivers, and only three studies were categorized as "probably robust" with regard to HRQoL assessment. Conclusions: Systematic incorporation of HRQoL measures represents an urgent need in pediatric rheumatology, aiding clinicians in their decision-making in relation to treatment effectiveness and considering the children's perspective.

Abstract
PURPOSE Although asthma is common in children with sleep-disordered breathing (SDB), it is unclear whether and to what extent asthma is associated with SDB-related outcomes. Our objectives are to describe risk factors for asthma among children with mild SDB (mSDB) and assess the association between asthma and the severity of sleep-related outcomes. METHODS Cross-sectional analyses were conducted for children aged 3-12.9 years with mSDB enrolled in Pediatric Adenotonsillectomy for Snoring Children Study. Sleep-related outcomes included SDB symptoms (Pediatric Sleep Questionnaire-Sleep-Related Breathing Disorder scale (PSQ-SRBD)), SDB-specific quality of life (OSA-18), sleepiness (modified Epworth Sleepiness Score) and polysomnographic and actigraphic measures. Asthma was defined by caregiver-reported diagnosis with current asthma symptoms and medication use, or a Composite Asthma Severity Index (CASI) score ≥ 4. Asthma was further categorized into mild (CASI < 4) and moderate-to-severe (CASI ≥ 4). Regression analyses were conducted to identify asthma risk factors and estimate the associations between mild and moderate-to-severe asthma with sleep-related outcomes. RESULTS The sample included 425 children (20.3%-Black, 17.4%-Hispanic; 51.7%-female). The prevalence of asthma was 19.1% (7.1% moderate-to-severe, 12.0% mild). Environmental tobacco smoke exposure and markers of atopy were associated with asthma in multivariable-adjusted analyses. Moderate-to-severe asthma was associated with increased OSA symptoms measured by PSQ-SRBD (adjusted effect estimate for moderate-to-severe vs. no asthma ( β ^ adj; 95%CI): 0.08; 0.01, 0.15)) and decreased quality of life measured by OSA-18 ( β ^ adj; 95%CI: 7.5; 1.20, 13.82)), and a small increase in the arousal index ( β ^ adj; 95%CI: 0.80; 0.09, 1.51)). CONCLUSION Moderate-to-severe asthma was associated with worse QoL and greater SDB symptoms among children with mSDB. The co-occurrence of common risk factors for mSDB and asthma and worse symptoms and quality of life in children with both conditions support coordinated strategies for prevention and co-management of both disorders. Abstract
OBJECTIVES Chronic diseases impact people's quality of life (QoL). Behçet's disease (BD) is a multisystemic chronic disease characterized by vasculitis of various vessels. We aimed to assess QoL in paediatric BD (PEDBD) patients and their parents. METHODS We conducted a cross-sectional study from June to December 2022, including PEDBD patients meeting classification criteria. We recorded clinical characteristics and assessed QoL using PedsQL for patients and WHOQOL-Bref for parents. RESULTS A study of 38 patients (60.5% girls, 39.5% boys), median age 15.5 years (range 10-17), with oral aphthae and various mucocutaneous symptoms: genital ulcers (78.9%), pseudofolliculitis (76.3%), erythema nodosum (23.6%), and some with uveitis (13.1%), vascular (13.1%), neurological (10.5%), and gastrointestinal (5.2%) involvement. All were in remission under treatment. Median PedsQL scores: total 74.5 (range 40-94.8), physical health 76.5 (43-100), psychosocial health 75 (25-92); 14 patients scored below cutoff. Girls had lower physical health scores (P = .004), and disease duration correlated negatively with PedsQL score (r = -0.648, P = .001). Median WHOQOL score for parents: 50 (25-100), with 20 scoring below cutoff. CONCLUSION One-third of PEDBD children and over half of their parents had low QoL. Disease duration and gender, as with many chronic illnesses, correlated with QoL in PEDBD.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to investigate the contextual factors associated with the quality of life (QOL) of Brazilian children aged 0-12 years during the strict period of social isolation. METHODS This observational cross-sectional study was conducted between July and September 2020 using an online questionnaire on QOL-related family factors and the Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory (PedsQL™). Results were analyzed by multinomial logistic regression analysis. RESULTS The sample had 849 children, mostly from the South Region of Brazil (75%), white (83%), with typical development (79%), sedentary (68%), using screen (85%) for >3 h/day (44%). Their mothers were their main caregivers (90%). The following variables were significantly associated with high scores of QOL: typical health status (OR 2.38; 95%CI 1.60-3.55; screen time ≤2 h/day (OR 1.62; 95%CI 1.17-2.24); social distancing considered as "easy" (OR 1.67; 95%CI 1.20-2.32), and stimulation of the child by the family (OR 1.93; 95%CI 1.08-3.45). CONCLUSIONS This study indicates that the family context can influence children's QOL, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic and home environment reorganization.

Abstract
PURPOSE Measuring health-related quality of life (HRQoL) of children with suspected genetic conditions is important for understanding the effect of interventions such as genomic sequencing (GS). The Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory (PedsQL) is a widely used generic measure of HRQoL in pediatric patients, but its psychometric properties have not yet been evaluated in children undergoing diagnostic GS. METHODS In this cross-sectional study, we surveyed caregivers at the time of their child's enrollment into GS research studies as part of the Clinical Sequencing Evidence Generating Research (CSER) consortium. To evaluate structural validity of the PedsQL 4.0 Generic Core Scales and PedsQL Infant Scales parent proxy-report versions, we performed a confirmatory factor analysis of the hypothesized factor structure. To evaluate convergent validity, we examined correlations between caregivers' reports of their child's health, assessed using the EQ VAS, and PedsQL scores by child age. We conducted linear regression analyses to examine whether age moderated the association between caregiver-reported child health and PedsQL scores. We assessed reliability using Cronbach's alpha. RESULTS We analyzed data for 766 patients across all PedsQL age group versions (1-12 months through 13-18 years). Model fit failed to meet criteria for good fit, even after modification. Neither age group (categorical) nor age (continuous) significantly moderated associations between PedsQL scores and caregiver-reported child health. Cronbach's alphas indicated satisfactory internal consistency for most PedsQL scales. CONCLUSION The PedsQL Generic Core Scales and Infant Scales may be appropriate to measure HRQoL in pediatric patients with suspected genetic conditions across a wide age range. While we found evidence of acceptable internal consistency and preliminary convergent validity in this sample, there were some potential problems with structural validity and reliability that require further attention.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study evaluated the quality of life (QoL) in patients who have recovered from surgical necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC). METHODS This is a cross-sectional study conducted in a tertiary centre and patients who have received surgery for NEC between 2000 and 2014 were invited to participate. The Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory Generic (PedsQL™) Core Scale Version 4.0 was used as the assessment tool. Values were reported as median (interquartile rage) and compared with age-matched controls. RESULTS During the study period, 90 patients were eligible for the study and 29 patients have completed the survey. There was no gender difference and the median age was 10 years (9-13 years). Nine patients have suffered from short bowel syndrome (SBS) as a result of the surgery. For the QoL assessment, 17 participants have completed both parent proxy and child-rated survey; 11 completed the parent-rated survey and 1 completed child-rated survey only. The scores for parent-rated survey were - overall: 86.4 (70.7-92.7); physical: 95.3 (83.6-100) and psychosocial: 82.5 (66.3-90.4). The scores for child-rated survey were - overall: 82.1 (73.4-96.2); physical: 96.9 (90.6-99.2) and psychosocial: 81.7 (64.2-95.8). Regarding the impact of previous SBS on the QoL, there were no significant difference in the overall score for both parent proxy and child-rated survey (SBS-ve vs + ve) (parent-rated: 87.5 vs 85.3, p = 0.849; child-rated: 81.0 vs 88.0, p = 0.503). There were also no differences in physical and psychosocial assessments (parent-rated: [physical] 95.3 vs 95.3, p = 0.267; [psychosocial] 84.2 vs 80.0, p = 0.274; child-rated: [physical] 95.3 vs 96.9, p = 0.395; [psychosocial] 79.2 vs 87.5, p = 0.611). CONCLUSION The QoL in long-term survivors of surgical NEC without major medical illnesses is comparable to normal population. However, they may have a lower psychosocial well-being that should be addressed. Previous history of SBS does not have a significant impact on the future QoL. LEVEL OF EVIDENCE III.

Abstract
AIMS In type 1 diabetes (T1D), psychosocial factors may impact quality of life (QOL) and clinical outcomes, but remain understudied, particularly during late adolescence. Our aim was to determine whether stigma, diabetes distress and self-efficacy are associated with QOL in adolescents with T1D as they are preparing to transition to adult care. METHODS We conducted a cross-sectional study of adolescents (ages 16-17 years) with T1D participating in the Group Education Trial to Improve Transition (GET-IT) in Montreal, Canada. Participants completed validated questionnaires on stigma using the Barriers to Diabetes Adherence (BDA) stigma subscale, self-efficacy (Self-Efficacy for Diabetes Self-Management Measure [SEDM], score 1-10), diabetes distress (Diabetes Distress Scale for Adults with type 1 diabetes) and QOL (Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory [PedsQL] 4.0 Generic Core Scale and PedsQL 3.2 Diabetes Module). We examined associations of stigma, diabetes distress and self-efficacy with QOL using multivariate linear regression models adjusted for sex, diabetes duration, socioeconomic status and HbA1c. RESULTS Of 128 adolescents with T1D, 76 (59%) self-reported having the diabetes-related stigma and 29 (22.7%) reported experiencing diabetes distress. Those with stigma had lower diabetes-specific and general QOL scores compared with those without stigma, and stigma and diabetes distress were both associated with lower diabetes-specific QOL and lower general QOL. Self-efficacy was associated with higher diabetes-specific and general QOL. CONCLUSIONS Stigma and diabetes distress are associated with lower QOL, whereas self-efficacy is associated with higher QOL in adolescents with T1D preparing to transfer to adult care.

Abstract
Aims To evaluate mid-to long-term patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) of endoprosthetic reconstruction after resection of malignant tumours arising around the knee, and to investigate the risk factors for unfavourable PROMs. Methods The medical records of 75 patients who underwent surgery between 2000 and 2020 were retrospectively reviewed, and 44 patients who were alive and available for follow-up (at a mean of 9.7 years postoperatively) were included in the study. Leg length discrepancy was measured on whole-leg radiographs, and functional assessment was performed with PROMs (Toronto Extremity Salvage Score (TESS) and Comprehensive Outcome Measure for Musculoskeletal Oncology Lower Extremity (COMMON-LE)) with two different aspects. The thresholds for unfavourable PROMs were determined using anchor questions regarding satisfaction, and the risk factors for unfavourable PROMs were investigated. Results The thresholds for favourable TESS and COMMON were 64.8 and 70.4 points, respectively. Multivariate analysis showed that age at surgery (p = 0.004) and postoperative leg length discrepancy (p = 0.043) were significant risk factors for unfavourable TESS results, while age at surgery (p < 0.001) was a significant risk factor for unfavourable COMMON-LE results. Following receiver operating characteristic analysis, the threshold for both TESS and COMMON-LE was 29 years of age at surgery. Additionally, a leg length discrepancy of 8.2 mm was the threshold for unfavourable TESS. Conclusion Patients aged > 29 years at the time of surgery require appropriate preoperative counselling and adequate postoperative physical and socioemotional support. Reconstruction equivalent to the length of the resected bone can reduce the risk of functional disabilities in daily living.

Abstract
BACKGROUND To examine the associations of the independent and combined healthy lifestyle factors with health-related quality of life (HRQOL) in adolescents, and to test the moderating role of gender. METHODS This cross-sectional study included 5125 adolescents aged between 11 and 20 years. They provided self-reported data on six healthy lifestyle factors, including never smoking, never drinking, good sleep quality, sufficient sleep duration, appropriate Internet use, and adequate physical activity. Adolescents' HRQOL was evaluated using the Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory version 4.0. Linear regression models were conducted to explore the association of individual and combined healthy lifestyle factors with adolescents' HRQOL. We further performed stratified analyses and likelihood ratio test to explore the moderating role of gender in these associations. RESULTS Of the included adolescents, the proportions with 0-2, 3, 4, and 5-6 healthy lifestyle factors were 13.6%, 26.4%, 44.3%, and 15.7%, respectively. Compared to adolescents with composite healthy lifestyle scores of 0-2, those with scores of 3, 4, or 5-6 had significantly higher HRQOL scores across all dimensions, summary scales, and total scale in both unadjusted and adjusted models. Specifically, adolescents with 5-6 healthy lifestyle factors had a total scale score that was 19.03 (95%CI: 17.76 to 20.30) points higher than their counterparts who only had 0-2 healthy lifestyle factors. Significant dose-response patterns were also observed in aforementioned associations. Gender was a significant moderator in the associations between composite healthy lifestyle groups and HRQOL scores, except for the social functioning dimension. CONCLUSIONS Our results confirmed that combined healthy lifestyle factors were associated with improved HRQOL among adolescents, with a stronger association observed in girls. These findings underscore the necessity for education and healthcare authorities to design health-promoting strategies that encourage multiple healthy lifestyle factors in adolescents, with the objective of enhancing their overall health outcomes.

Abstract
PURPOSE To explore muscle properties, gross motor performance, and quality of life (QoL) in children with sickle cell disease (SCD) compared with controls and to assess relationships among these outcomes. METHODS A cross-sectional study of 24 children assessed muscle properties including: knee extension strength by dynamometry; vastus lateralis (VL) and rectus femoris (RF) muscle thickness by ultrasonography; and VL and RF neuromuscular activation (rate of muscle activation [RoA]) by electromyography (EMG). Gross motor performance and QoL were assessed by standardized tests and questionnaires. RESULTS Children with SCD had impaired knee extension strength, VL EMG RoA, gross motor performance, and QoL compared with children without SCD. Relationships among muscle properties, gross motor performance, and QoL were identified. CONCLUSIONS These findings indicate that comprehensive muscle properties, gross motor performance, and QoL assessments should be considered to support and develop individualized physical therapy plans for children with SCD.

Abstract
Health-related quality of life (HRQoL) provides a broad assessment of an individual's well-being and can serve as a good prognosticator of life's outcomes later for children and adolescents. Understanding the factors associated with HRQoL is crucial for promoting better health and life satisfaction. This study investigated the cross-sectional association of socioeconomic status, cardio fitness, and physical activity levels with HRQoL in 224 Italian early adolescents attending secondary school in the Emilia-Romagna region located in Northern Italy. In a multivariate path regression model, younger students and females reported a higher quality of life (β = -0.139, p = 0.015, 95% CI: -0.254--0.023 and β = 0.142, p = 0.019, 95% CI: 0.011-0.273, respectively). Having both parents employed and having a higher familiar educational status were also associated with a higher quality of life (β = 0.142, p = 0.013, 95% CI 0.027-0.257 and β = 0.133, p = 0.017, 95% CI 0.022-0.244, respectively). Greater engagement in routine physical activity levels from moderate to vigorous intensity was positively associated with quality of life (β = 0.429, p < 0.001, 95% CI: 0.304-0.554). Endurance (speed) was positively associated with quality of life (β = 0.221, p = 0.001, 95% CI: 0.087-0.355), and students with longer times on the shuttle run reported less quality of life (β = -0.207, p = 0.002, 95% CI: -0.337--0.077). These relations remained intact even when controlling for socioeconomic factors. The current findings reinforce the importance of promoting regular physical activity among younger children and also addressing socioeconomic status disparities to improve children's well-being. Future studies may want to consider expanding the array of measures used to assess physical activity and include additional measures assessing nutrition, cultural factors, and family functioning, all of which can influence a child's willingness to engage in physical activity and their well-being. The emphasis on fitness and physical activity and their contribution to a child's well-being should be the prime focus for stakeholders who work in the education, public health, and health policy sectors.

Abstract
BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVE Health-related quality of life is a concept that includes aspects about physical, emotional and social well-being. The aim of the study was to validate the PedsQL for parent report for toddlers in Spain and provide reference data in a Spanish population. METHOD The sample included 478 parents (89.5% mothers) of children aged 18-36 months (M = 26.75 months). Sociodemographic data were gathered, and the PedsQL and Kiddy-KINDL-R were completed by the participants. RESULTS The fit of the original structure of the PedsQL was acceptable (CFI = 0.93; TLI = 0.92; RMSEA = 0.06), and the results showed good internal consistency (α = 0.85). The items about nursery school were excluded, since not all the toddlers attended this type of educational centre. Significant differences were found in physical health and activities and in the total mean in terms of parent education level, and in social activities regarding gender. For the normative interpretation of the PedsQL, the first, second and third quartiles corresponded to 77.78, 84.72 and 90.28, respectively. CONCLUSIONS This instrument is not only useful to individually evaluate the quality of life of a child with respect to his/her group, but also to measure the efficacy of a possible intervention.

Abstract
Supporting a child's health-promoting lifestyle is an investment in their future health and health-related quality of life (HRQoL). Particularly children with overweight and obesity may be at an increased risk of a poor HRQoL. Currently, a comprehensive evaluation of lifestyle factors and age in relation to HRQoL in healthy children and, further, separate child and parental proxy-reports of HRQoL are lacking. The aims of this cross-sectional study in Finland are to compare healthy elementary school-aged children's and parents' reports of the child's HRQoL, and to view them in relation to lifestyle markers. The HRQoL was measured with Pediatric Quality of Life InventoryTM 4.0, and the following lifestyle markers: leisure-time physical activity as MET, diet quality via a validated index (ES-CIDQ), sleeping time and screen time by questionnaires. Furthermore, age and BMI were recorded. Data were obtained from 270 primary school-aged children (6-13 years). Female gender, the child's older age (8-13 years), high physical activity level and less screen time were strong predictors of a higher HRQoL in both the child's and parental proxy-reports. Means to promote healthy lifestyles should be particularly targeted to young children, especially boys, and new ways to promote physical activity and other forms of free-time activities should be sought.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES This study aims to describe the prevalence of gastrointestinal (GI) symptoms following the first time occurrence of acute pancreatitis (AP) and to measure the impact of the episode on patient health-related quality of life (HRQOL) from the perspectives of patients and parents. METHODS Questionnaires regarding GI symptoms 1 year following the initial occurrence of AP were obtained from 74 pediatric patients. Thirty of these patients completed both the Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory (PedsQL) 4.0 Generic Core Scales and the PedsQL Gastrointestinal Symptoms and Worry Scales. These data were compared to legacy-matched healthy controls. RESULTS Children with a standalone occurrence of AP experienced a similar rate of GI symptoms compared to those who progressed to acute recurrent pancreatitis (ARP) within 1 year. PedsQL 4.0 Generic Core Scales scores were significantly lower for children self-report and parent proxy-report for patients that experienced AP compared to healthy controls. AP patients also demonstrated significantly more symptoms than healthy controls in the Gastrointestinal Symptoms and Worry Scales across multiple domains. CONCLUSIONS Gastrointestinal symptoms affect many children who experience a single AP event even without recurrent attacks. The burden of symptoms is not significantly different from those who develop ARP. This is a novel study that evaluates patient-reported outcomes in children following an AP attack and demonstrates there is a significant impact on HRQOL in children and family experiences post AP. More data are needed to study the progression of disease and the extended impact of AP following an initial AP attack in pediatric patients.

Abstract
Strokes affect up to 10% of children with sickle-cell disease (SCD). The most commonly used strategy to prevent a first-time stroke or its recurrence is to perform periodic red blood cell transfusions. This article aims to evaluate the quality of life (QoL) of children and adolescents with SCD undergoing a chronic transfusion regimen (CTR) for stroke prophylaxis, according to their caregivers' perception. A cross-sectional study was conducted using a sociodemographic interview with an application of a validated instrument (Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory) involving 16 caregivers of patients with SCD aged <18 years undergoing CTR in a reference center. The data were processed using STATA version 13.0. The caregivers were predominantly the mothers of the minors that were part of the study cohort (87.5%), an income of <2 minimum wages (81.2% of cases) and >8 years of schooling (56.2%). The patients had a mean age of 10.4 years, 68.8% were male, 75% were mixed-race and came from small towns and rural areas (68.8%). The overall mean QoL was 45.8 (95% confidence interval [CI] 42.5-49.2). Female patients and those aged <12 years had lower levels of overall QoL. The emotional dimension of the children was the least compromised as per the caregivers' perception. The mean QoL of children with SCD on a CTR is lower than the estimated global mean QoL reported in the literature. It is possible that the occurrence of a stroke enhances the caregivers' negative perceptions about the QoL of patients with SCD.

Abstract
PURPOSE With improved long-term survival rates, measuring the quality of surgical care has gradually shifted from clinical morbidity and mortality to patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs). Since the use of PROMs in pediatric surgery is still limited, we undertook a study to identify current PROMs, assess their characteristics, and identify gaps and areas for improvement. METHODS A search was conducted in eight databases from their inception until May 2021 to identify PROMs that have been used in pediatric surgical patients. PRISMA standards were followed, and screening was completed by two independent reviewers. The quality of the included studies was appraised using the AXIS and the Mixed Methods Appraisal Tool. RESULTS Of 8282 studies screened, 101 articles met the inclusion criteria. Most of the studies (99%) were cross-sectional. We identified 85 different PROMs among the studies, 53 being disease-specific and the rest generic. The PedsQL™ was the most frequently used tool (42 studies). Almost half of the instruments (41 studies) were not validated, and 28% were developed ad hoc for each specific study. Significantly, all PROMs encountered were standardized (consisting of pre-determined domains), with no individualized tools currently in use. The overall quality of the included studies was good. CONCLUSIONS PROMs are increasingly used in pediatric surgery. Disease-specific PROMs predominate the field, yet validated and especially individualized PROMs are notably absent. Future efforts are needed to develop robust tools that reflect individual patient and family needs, preferences, and values, with the aim of furthering family-centered pediatric surgical care.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES The objective was to report on the initial measurement properties of the Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory™ (PedsQL™) Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) Module in youth with SCI from the youth and parent perspectives. METHODS PedsQL™ SCI Module and PedsQL™ 4.0 Generic Core Scales SF15 were completed in a multisite national study by 166 youth ages 8 to 25 years and 128 parents of youth ages 5 to 23 years. Data from the PedsQL™ Generic Core Scales were compared with an age- and sex-matched healthy control sample. Factor analysis was conducted to determine the factor structure of the items. RESULTS In addition to a Total Scale Score, nine unidimensional scales were derived measuring daily activities, mobility, bladder function, bowel function, pressure injury, pain interference, social participation, worry bladder bowel, and worry social. The PedsQL™ SCI Module evidenced excellent reliability for Total Scale Scores (youth self-report, α = 0.93; parent proxy-report, α = 0.93) and acceptable reliability for the nine individual scales (youth self-report, α = 0.71-0.83; parent proxy-report, α = 0.67-0.87). Intercorrelations with the Generic Core Scales supported construct validity with medium to large effect sizes (most ps < .001). Factor analysis supported the unidimensionality of the nine individual scales. PedsQL™ Generic Core Scales comparisons to healthy controls demonstrated significantly impaired generic health-related quality of life in youth with SCI with large effect sizes. CONCLUSION The PedsQL™ SCI Module Scales demonstrated acceptable measurement properties and may be utilized as standardized scales to assess SCI-specific concerns and problems in clinical research and practice in youth with SCI.

Abstract
Juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA), as a chronic condition, is associated with symptoms negatively impacting health-related quality of life (HRQL). Regarding growing interest in the implementation of the patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs), we aimed to review the non-disease specific PROMs addressing HRQL assessment, potentially useful in the clinical care of JIA and daily practice. A systematic literature search was conducted using MEDLINE/PubMed, Google Scholar, Scopus and Embase databases (1990 to 2021), with a focus on the recent 5-years period. Entry keywords included the terms: “children”, “adolescents”, “JIA”, “chronic diseases”, “HRQL”, “PROMs” and wordings for the specific tools. Several available PROMs intended to measure HRQL, non-specific to JIA, were identified. The presented outcomes differed in psychometric properties, yet all were feasible in assessing HRQL in healthy children and those with chronic diseases. Both EQ-5D-Y and PedsQL have already been tested in JIA, showing relevant reliability, validity, and similar efficiency as disease-specific measurements. For PROMIS® PGH-7 and PGH-7 + 2, such validation and cross-cultural adaptation need to be performed. Considering the future directions in pediatric rheumatology, the large-scale implementation of PROMIS® PGH-7 and PGH-7 + 2 in JIA offers a particularly valuable opportunity. The PROMs reflect the patient perception of the chronic disease and allow to understand child’s opinions. The PROMs may provide an important element of the holistic medical care of patients with JIA and a standardized tool for clinical outcomes, monitoring disease severity and response to treatment.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Previous research has shown that female adolescents and adults report lower health status than their male peers. Possibly, this discrepancy already develops during childhood. We collected sex-specific data with the Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory (PedsQL) in a large school-based sample. METHODS The online version of the PedsQL was administered to healthy Dutch children aged 5-7 years (parent proxy-report), 8-12 years (parent proxy-report and child self-report), and 13-17 years (parent proxy-report and child self-report), recruited through regular primary and secondary schools. Sex differences were assessed using t-tests or Mann-Whitney U-tests. Wilcoxon signed-rank tests and intraclass correlation coefficients served to compare parent proxy-reports with child self-reports. Multivariable linear regression analyses were used to assess the associations of sex of the child, age, and parental educational level with PedsQL scores. RESULTS Eight hundred eighty-two parents and five hundred eighty one children were recruited from 15 different schools in the Netherlands. Parents of 8-to-12-year-olds reported higher scores on School Functioning for girls than for boys (mean difference [MD]: 6.56, p < 0.001). Parents of 13-to-17-year-olds reported lower scores on Physical and Emotional Functioning for girls than for boys (MDs: 2.14 and 5.79, p = 0.014 and p < 0.001, respectively). Girls aged 8-12 years reported lower scores than boys in this age group on Physical Functioning (MD: 3.09, p = 0.005). Girls aged 13-17 years reported lower scores than boys in this age group on Physical Functioning (MD: 3.67, p < 0.001), Emotional Functioning (MD: 8.11, p < 0.001), and the Total Score (MD 3.26, p = 0.004). No sex differences were found in children aged 5-7 years. Agreement between child self-reports and parent proxy-reports was poor to moderate. CONCLUSIONS Girls generally had lower PedsQL scores than boys, both in parent proxy-reports and in child self-reports. We recommend to apply sex-specific data when assessing health status using the PedsQL.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Identification of the obstruction site in the upper airway may help in treatment selection for patients with sleep-disordered breathing. Because of limitations of existing techniques, there is a continuous search for more feasible methods. Snoring sound parameters were hypothesized to be potential predictors of the obstruction site. Therefore, this review aims to i) investigate the association between snoring sound parameters and the obstruction sites; and ii) analyze the methodology of reported prediction models of the obstruction sites. METHODS The literature search was conducted in PubMed, Embase.com, CENTRAL, Web of Science, and Scopus in collaboration with a medical librarian. Studies were eligible if they investigated the associations between snoring sound parameters and the obstruction sites, and/or reported prediction models of the obstruction sites based on snoring sound. RESULTS Of the 1016 retrieved references, 28 eligible studies were included. It was found that the characteristic frequency components generated from lower-level obstructions of the upper airway were higher than those generated from upper-level obstructions. Prediction models were built mainly based on snoring sound parameters in frequency domain. The reported accuracies ranged from 60.4% to 92.2%. CONCLUSIONS Available evidence points toward associations between the snoring sound parameters in the frequency domain and the obstruction sites in the upper airway. It is promising to build a prediction model of the obstruction sites based on snoring sound parameters and participant characteristics, but so far snoring sound analysis does not seem to be a viable diagnostic modality for treatment selection.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To identify the most suitable existing generic and condition-specific health-related quality of life (HRQoL) patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) for active youth with and without a musculoskeletal injury, based on measurement properties, interpretability, and feasibility. DESIGN Systematic review of clinimetrics. LITERATURE SEARCH We searched MEDLINE, Embase, CINAHL, SPORTDiscus, PsycINFO, and Scopus from inception to April 30, 2020. STUDY SELECTION CRITERIA Records with original data describing the evaluation of a PROM or PROM subscale in active youth (15-24 years old) with or without a musculoskeletal injury were included. Non-English studies and those including individuals with a cognitive, developmental, or systemic condition were excluded. DATA SYNTHESIS This review was conducted according to the COSMIN user manual for systematic reviews of PROMs and the PRISMA guidelines. The COSMIN user manual guided our measurement property evaluation and interpretability and feasibility description. RESULTS Of 6931 potential records, 21 studies were included. Eleven generic and 7 condition-specific PROMs were identified. No PROM received a final COSMIN recommendation of "A" because all lacked sufficient content validity. The 8-item Disablement in the Physically Active scale-mental summary component Short Form (DPA-MSC SF-8), Quality of Life Survey, and Functional Arm Scale for Throwers (FAST) were the most suitable existing PROMs, given their high-quality evidence for sufficient structural validity and internal consistency. CONCLUSION No definitively robust PROM for measuring generic or condition-specific HRQoL of active youth was identified. Until one exists, we recommend the DPA-MSC SF-8, the Quality of Life Survey, or the FAST and applying mixed methods to best characterize the HRQoL of active youth. Abstract
AIM To identify generic measures used to measure quality of life (QoL) in pediatric multiple sclerosis research, estimate an overall score of children and adolescents with pediatric multiple sclerosis, and compare the scores to scores of typically developing children and adolescents. METHOD A systematic search was conducted on four databases. All studies were included if: the sample was children with pediatric demyelinating disorders; self-reported QoL/health-related quality of life (HRQoL) measures or results were reported; and the mean age of the sample was below 21 years. Quality of the included articles was appraised using the Strengthening the Reporting of Observational Studies in Epidemiology (STROBE) checklist and the Mixed Methods Appraisal Tool checklist. A meta-analysis was also conducted. RESULTS A total of 12 full-text articles were included. Content analysis showed that many components of QoL were not included in the measures. Seven studies were included in the meta-analysis. The meta-analyzed score was 75.7 (95% confidence interval 71.2-80.3) with a pooled standard deviation of 16.6. Scores of typically developing children and children with pediatric multiple sclerosis were similar. INTERPRETATION Most measures assessed HRQoL and not QoL. Development of a condition-specific measure of QoL for children and adolescents with pediatric multiple sclerosis would make an important contribution to the field. What this paper adds Health-related quality of life (HRQoL) measures were used to measure quality of life in pediatric multiple sclerosis. HRQoL scores in pediatric multiple sclerosis were similar to typically developing children and adolescents.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The objective of this qualitative methods study was to develop the domains and items to support the content validity for the Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory (PedsQL) Multiple Sclerosis Module for youth with pediatric-onset multiple sclerosis. METHODS A literature review of multiple sclerosis-specific questionnaires and clinical research was conducted to generate domains. An expert panel composed of 12 neurologists who were pediatric-onset multiple sclerosis specialists provided feedback on the conceptual framework. Focus interviews with 9 youth with pediatric-onset multiple sclerosis and 6 parents were conducted to develop the relevant domains and item content from the patient and parent perspective. In the cognitive interviews phase, 9 youth with pediatric-onset multiple sclerosis and 6 parents provided feedback on item content, relevance, importance, and understandability of the pediatric-onset multiple sclerosis-specific domains and items. The final interview phase with 5 youth with pediatric-onset multiple sclerosis and 5 parents comprised a pilot testing of the new PedsQL MS Module. RESULTS Eighteen domains were derived from the qualitative methods with item content saturation achieved at 100 items based on 40 interviews with 23 youth with pediatric-onset multiple sclerosis aged 10-21 years and 17 parents. The domains derived include general fatigue, sleep/rest fatigue, cognitive functioning, tingling sensations, numbness sensations, physical weakness, pain, speech, balance, fine motor, vision, urination, constipation, bowel incontinence, worry, communication, treatment, and medicines. CONCLUSIONS Qualitative methods involving 23 youth with pediatric-onset multiple sclerosis and 17 parents in the domain and item development process support the content validity for the new PedsQL MS Module. Future plans include a national field test of the PedsQL MS Module scales and items.
