Abstract
Background/Objectives: Addressing the risk of malnutrition at an early stage is crucial to preventing its development, which can have a detrimental impact on physical and mental health status. This study investigates the potential role of biochemical biomarkers such as sirtuin 1 (SIRT-1), melatonin, cholecystokinin-8 (CCK-8), and total antioxidant capacity (TAC) in identifying the risk of malnutrition. Methods: This cross-sectional study assessed malnutrition risk in 153 community-dwelling older adults using the Mini Nutritional Assessment (MNA). Serum levels of SIRT-1, melatonin, and CCK-8 were analyzed with enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), and total antioxidant capacity (TAC) was measured using the ferric reducing ability of plasma (FRAP) method. Results: Serum levels of TAC and CCK-8 were significantly positively correlated with grip strength and visceral adipose tissue, with TAC levels also showing associations with appendicular skeletal muscle mass index (ASMI), total body water, total energy expenditure, fat-free mass index, and fat mass index (p < 0.001). CCK-8 emerged as a strong predictor of malnutrition risk (AUC = 0.58 in females, AUC = 0.64 in males), whereas SIRT-1 (AUC = 0.57 for both sexes), melatonin (AUC = 0.46 for females, AUC = 0.51 for males), and TAC (AUC = 0.42 for females, AUC = 0.54 for males) exhibited weaker predictive abilities. A multivariate model incorporating CCK-8 demonstrated excellent predictive accuracy (AUC = 0.84, 95% CI: 0.77-0.90) and indicated a potential association between elevated CCK-8 levels and a higher risk of malnutrition. Conclusions: In conclusion, this study highlights the effectiveness of a multi-parameter model incorporating CCK-8 as a reliable approach for assessing malnutrition risk in older adults, offering a comprehensive evaluation of the condition. However, further research is needed to confirm its applicability and accuracy in diverse elderly populations and clinical settings.

Abstract
Background/Aim Identifying prognostic and molecular markers as therapeutic targets for esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) could enhance the efficacy of multidisciplinary treatments. While tissue expression of sirtuin 1 (SIRT1) has been linked to tumor progression in ESCC, prognostic significance of serum SIRT1 levels and their correlation with tissue SIRT1 remains unexplored. This study aimed to investigate the correlation between serum and tissue SIRT1 levels in patients with ESCC. Patients and Methods A total of 38 patients diagnosed with ESCC who were untreated preoperatively were recruited for this study. SIRT1 expression in the surgical specimens was assessed through immunostaining, while serum SIRT1 levels were measured using an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. We analyzed the association between tissue and serum SIRT1 levels, clinicopathological features, and patient prognosis. Results Positive SIRT1 expression in tissue was significantly associated with deeper tumor depth (p=0.020). It was also significantly associated with poorer overall survival (OS) and relapse-free survival (RFS) (p=0.041 and p=0.012, respectively). Elevated serum SIRT1 levels were significantly correlated with increased tumor depth and weight loss (p=0.012 and p=0.030). While higher serum SIRT1 levels tended to be associated with poorer OS (p=0.069), no significant correlation was found between SIRT1 expression in tissue and its concentration in serum. Conclusion SIRT1 tissue expression may be a valuable prognostic marker in ESCC. However, the clinical significance of serum SIRT1 levels appears to differ from that of its tissue expression. Future research is required to clarify the role of serum SIRT1 in ESCC.

Abstract
Undernutrition and inflammatory processes are predictors of early mortality in the elderly and require a rapid and accurate diagnosis. Currently, there are laboratory markers for assessing nutritional status, but new markers are still being sought. Recent studies suggest that sirtuin 1 (SIRT1) has the potential to be a marker for undernutrition. This article summarizes available studies on the association of SIRT1 and undernutrition in older people. Possible associations between SIRT1 and the aging process, inflammation, and undernutrition in the elderly have been described. The literature suggests that low SIRT1 levels in the blood of older people may not be associated with physiological aging processes, but with an increased risk of severe undernutrition associated with inflammation and systemic metabolic changes.

Abstract
Several biomarkers have been proposed to identify frailty, a multisystemic age-related syndrome. However, the complex pathophysiology and the absence of a consensus on a comprehensive and universal definition make it challenging to pinpoint a singular biomarker or set of biomarkers that conclusively characterize frailty. This review delves into the main laboratory biomarkers, placing special emphasis on those associated with various pathways closely tied to the frailty condition, such as inflammation, oxidative stress, mitochondrial dysfunction, metabolic and endocrine alterations and microRNA. Additionally, we provide a summary of different clinical biomarkers encompassing different tools that have been proposed to assess frailty. We further address various imaging biomarkers such as Dual Energy X-ray Absorptiometry, Bioelectrical Impedance analysis, Computed Tomography and Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Ultrasound and D3 Creatine dilution. Intervention to treat frailty, including non-pharmacological ones, especially those involving physical exercise and nutrition, and pharmacological interventions, that include those targeting specific mechanisms such as myostatin inhibitors, insulin sensitizer metformin and with special relevance for hormonal treatments are mentioned. We further address the levels of different biomarkers in monitoring the potential positive effects of some of these interventions. Despite the availability of numerous biomarkers, their performance and usefulness in the clinical arena are far from being satisfactory. Considering the multicausality of frailty, there is an increasing need to assess the role of sets of biomarkers and the combination between laboratory, clinical and image biomarkers, in terms of sensitivity, specificity and predictive values for the diagnosis and prognosis of the different outcomes of frailty to improve detection and monitoring of older people with frailty or at risk of developing it, being this a need in the everyday clinical practice.

Abstract
Background Relationship age, hemoglobin, and physical frailty have all been investigated in older people with more than one chronic disease. There has been little analysis of the relationship between hemoglobin, age, physical frailty, plasma levels of Sirtuin1 (SIRT1), and the gene polymorphism (SNP) rs7895833 A>G. The goal of this study was to find out how SIRT1 level, SNP rs7895833, hemoglobin, age, and physical frailty (frail score) are related in older Indonesian adults with comorbid chronic diseases. Methods This was an observational study. Demographic and clinical data were retrieved from the electronic health records of Universitas Sumatera Utara Hospital, Medan, Indonesia. Physical frailty, SIRT1 level, and SNP rs7895833 were measured using an appropriate and valid method. Purposive sampling was used to determine the eligibility of 132 elderly adults from November 2022 to February 2023. Results The indirect effect of hemoglobin on the frail score (FS) through age was negative and significant, according to a conditional mediation analysis (β=-0.0731; p=0.023). Meanwhile, the direct effect of hemoglobin on the FS was negative and not significant (β=0.1632; p=0.052). According to the conditional moderated mediation analysis, the size of the direct effect of age on FS was increased by genotype AG-GG and SIRT1 level (β low=0.2647; p=0.002, β middle=0.2956; p<0.001, and β high=0.319; p<0.001). The size of the conditional indirect effect of Hemoglobin on FS through age was negative and significantly increased by SNP genotype AG-GG and SIRT1 level (β low=-0.0647; p=0.032, β middle=-0.0723; p=0.024, and β high=-0.078; p=0.02). Conclusions Higher plasma levels of SIRT1 and the SNP genotype AG-GG may both contribute to physical frailty in the elderly population. Hemoglobin levels in the blood fall with age, which can negatively impact older persons who already have chronic diseases. However, the interactions between these factors are intricate, requiring more study to completely understand the processes underlying development.

Abstract
Lipodystrophies (LDs) are rare, complex disorders of the adipose tissue characterized by selective fat loss, altered adipokine profile and metabolic impairment. Sirtuins (SIRTs) are class III NAD+-dependent histone deacetylases linked to fat metabolism. SIRT1 plays a critical role in metabolic health by deacetylating target proteins in tissue types including liver, muscle, and adipose. Circulating SIRT1 levels have been found to be reduced in obesity and increased in anorexia nervosa and patients experiencing weight loss. We evaluated circulating SIRT1 levels in relation to fat levels in 32 lipodystrophic patients affected by congenital or acquired LDs compared to non-LD subjects (24 with anorexia nervosa, 22 normal weight, and 24 with obesity). SIRT1 serum levels were higher in LDs than normal weight subjects (mean ± SEM 4.18 ± 0.48 vs. 2.59 ± 0.20 ng/mL) and subjects with obesity (1.7 ± 0.39 ng/mL), whereas they were close to those measured in anorexia nervosa (3.44 ± 0.46 ng/mL). Our findings show that within the LD group, there was no relationship between SIRT1 levels and the amount of body fat. The mechanisms responsible for secretion and regulation of SIRT1 in LD deserve further investigation.

Abstract
Introduction Sirtuin 1 (SIRT1) is known to be involved in sensing cellular energy levels and regulating energy metabolism. This study aimed to evaluate fasting serum SIRT1 levels in healthy children, and to analyse the influence of age, sex, puberty, body weight, height, and diet on its concentration. Methods 47 healthy children aged 4-14 with weight and height within normal range and no chronic disease were included into the study. Fasting serum SIRT1 concentrations were estimated by Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA). Results Results showed that serum SIRT1 concentrations in healthy children did not differ with respect to sex, age, height, weight and puberty. Whereas, it appeared that a higher frequency of fruits, vegetables and dairy products consumption was associated with an increase in serum SIRT1 levels. Discussion Studying SIRT1 in the context of children's health may have implications for a broader understanding of growth processes, pubertal development, metabolic disorders and nutrition.

Abstract
Introduction Circulating cytokines were considered to play a critical role in the initiation and propagation of sarcopenia and frailty from observational studies. This study aimed to find the casual association between circulating cytokines and sarcopenia and frailty from a genetic perspective by two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis. Methods Data for 41 circulating cytokines were extracted from the genome-wide association study dataset of 8,293 European participants. Inverse-variance weighted (IVW) method, MR-Egger, and weighted median method were applied to assess the relationship of circulating cytokines with the risk of aging-related syndromes and frailty. Furthermore, MR-Egger regression was used to indicate the directional pleiotropy, and Cochran's Q test was used to verify the potential heterogeneity. The "leave-one-out" method was applied to visualize whether there was a causal relationship affected by only one anomalous single-nucleotide polymorphisms. Results Genetic predisposition to increasing levels of interleukin-10 (IL-10), IL-12, and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) was associated with the higher risk of low hand grip strength according to the IVW method [R = 1.05, 95% CI = 1.01-1.10, P = 0.028, false discovery rate (FDR)-adjusted P = 1.000; OR = 1.03, 95% CI = 1.00-1.07, P = 0.042, FDR-adjusted P = 0.784; OR = 1.02, 95% CI = 1.00-1.05, P = 0.038, FDR-adjusted P = 0.567]. Furthermore, genetically determined higher macrophage colony-stimulating factors (M-CSFs) were associated with a lower presence of appendicular lean mass (OR = 1.01, 95% CI = 1.00-1.02, P = 0.003, FDR-adjusted P = 0.103). Monokine induced by interferon-γ (MIG) and tumor necrosis factor-beta (TNF-β) were associated with a higher risk of frailty (OR = 1.03, 95% CI = 1.01-1.05, P < 0.0001, FDR-adjusted P = 0.012; OR = 1.01, 95% CI = 1.00-1.03, P = 0.013, FDR-adjusted P = 0.259). In this study, we did not find heterogeneity and horizontal pleiotropy between the circulating cytokines and the risk of frailty and sarcopenia. Conclusion Genetic predisposition to assess IL-10, IL-12, and VEGF levels was associated with a higher risk of low hand grip strength and M-CSF with the presence of appendicular lean mass. The high levels of TNF-β and MIG were associated with a higher risk of frailty. More studies will be required to explore the molecular biological mechanisms underlying the action of inflammatory factors.

Abstract
The population of older individuals is increasing rapidly, but only a small fraction among them is able to experiences a healthy life. Due to lack of physical exercise and oxidative stress, aging leads to sarcopenia and finally end up with frailty. Sarcopenia is a component of the frailty and described as age related degenerative changes in the skeletal muscle mass, strength and quality. Though the loss of muscle strength and mass gradually seem inevitable during aging, it can be partially prevented or overcome by a deeper insight into the pathogenesis. Sirtuin protein leads to longevity across different organisms ranging from worms to mammals. Expression of sirtuin protein increases during physical exercise and thus strengthens muscle mass. Satellite cells leads to muscle repair in a SIRT1 dependent manner. In addition, SIRT1 improves insulin sensitivity and induces autophagy in the aged mice. The current paper discussed the putative role of sirtuins in sarcopenia and frailty. Moreover, it highlighted the pathways by which sirtuins can inhibit ROS production, inflammation and mitochondrial dysfunctions and therefore confers a protective role against frailty and sarcopenia. The critical role of sirtuins in the sarcopenia and frailty pathogenesis can eventually fuel the development of novel interventions by targeting sirtuins.

Abstract
Cellular and molecular aging biomarkers might contribute to identify at-risk individuals for frailty before overt clinical manifestations appear. Although studies on the associations of aging biomarkers and frailty exist, no investigation has gathered this information using a structured framework for identifying aging biomarkers; as a result, the evidence on frailty and aging biomarkers is diffuse and incomplete. Therefore, this narrative review aimed to gather information on the associations of the hallmarks of aging and frailty under the perspective of geroscience. The literature on human studies on this topic is sparse and mainly composed of cross-sectional investigations performed in small study samples. The main putative aging biomarkers associated to frailty were: mitochondrial DNA copy number (genomic instability and mitochondrial dysfunction), telomere length (telomere attrition), global DNA methylation (epigenetic alterations), Hsp70 and Hsp72 (loss of proteostasis), IGF-1 and SIRT1 (deregulated nutrient-sensing), GDF-15 (mitochondrial dysfunction, cellular senescence and altered intercellular communication), CD4 + and CD8 + cell percentages (cellular senescence), circulating osteogenic progenitor (COP) cells (stem cell exhaustion), and IL-6, CRP and TNF-alpha (altered intercellular communication). IGF-1, SIRT1, GDF-15, IL-6, CRP and TNF-alpha presented more evidence among these biomarkers, highlighting the importance of inflammation and nutrient sensing on frailty. Further longitudinal studies investigating biomarkers across the hallmarks of aging would provide valuable information on this topic.

Abstract
The past years have seen an increasing concern about frailty, owing to the growing number of elderly people and the major impact of this syndrome on health and social care. The identification of frail people passes through the use of different tests and biomarkers, whose concerted analysis helps to stratify the populations of patients according to their risk profile. However, their efficiency in prognosis and their capability to reflect the multisystemic impairment of frailty is discussed. Recent works propose the use of miRNAs as biological hallmarks of physiological impairment in different organismal districts. Changes in miRNAs expression have been described in biological processes associated with phenotypic outcomes of frailty, opening intriguing possibilities for their use as biomarkers of fragility. Here, with the aim of finding reliable biomarkers of frailty, while considering its complex nature, we revised the current literature on the field, for uncovering miRNAs shared across physical and cognitive frailty domains. By applying in silico analyses, we retrieved the top-ranked shared miRNAs and their targets, finally prioritizing the most significant ones. From this analysis, ten miRNAs emerged which converge into two main biological processes: inflammation and energy homeostasis. Such markers, if validated, may offer promising capabilities for early diagnosis of frailty in the elderly population.

Abstract
Sirtuin 1 (SIRT) is a class III, NAD+-dependent histone deacetylase that also modulates the activity of numerous non-histone proteins through deacylation. SIRT1 plays critical roles in regulating and integrating cellular energy metabolism, response to stress, and circadian rhythm by modulating epigenetic and transcriptional regulation, mitochondrial homeostasis, proteostasis, telomere maintenance, inflammation, and the response to hypoxia. SIRT1 expression and activity decrease with aging, and enhancing its activity extends life span in various organisms, including mammals, and improves many age-related diseases, including cancer, metabolic, cardiovascular, neurodegenerative, respiratory, musculoskeletal, and renal diseases, but the opposite, that is, aggravation of various diseases, such as some cancers and neurodegenerative diseases, has also been reported. Accordingly, many natural and synthetic SIRT1 activators and inhibitors have been developed. Known SIRT1 activators of natural origin are mainly polyphenols. Nonetheless, various classes of non-polyphenolic monoterpenoids have been identified as inducers of SIRT1 expression and/or activity. This narrative review discusses current information on the evidence that supports the role of those compounds as SIRT1 activators and their potential both as tools for research and as pharmaceuticals for therapeutic application in age-related diseases.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Physical frailty and sarcopenia show extensive clinical similarities. Whether biomarkers exist that are shared by the two conditions is presently unclear. METHODS We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of cross-sectional and longitudinal studies that investigated the association of frailty and/or sarcopenia with biomarkers as a primary or secondary outcome in adults aged 60 years and older. Only studies published in English that defined frailty using a validated scale and/or questionnaire and diagnosed sarcopenia according to the presence of muscle atrophy plus dynapenia or low physical function were included. Studies were identified from a systematic search of MEDLINE and SCOPUS databases from inception through August 2020. The quality of reporting of each study was assessed by using the Quality Assessment Tool for Observational Cohort, Cross-Sectional and Case-Control studies of the National Institute of Health. A meta-analysis was conducted when at least three studies investigated the same biomarker in both frailty and sarcopenia. Pooled effect size was calculated based on standard mean differences and random-effect models. Sensitivity analysis was performed based on age and the setting where the study was conducted. RESULTS Eighty studies (58 on frailty and 22 on sarcopenia) met the inclusion criteria and were included in the qualitative analysis. Studies on frailty included 33,160 community-dwellers, hospitalized, or institutionalized older adults (60-88 years) from 21 countries. Studies on sarcopenia involved 4904 community-living and institutionalized older adults (68-87.6 years) from 9 countries. Several metabolic, inflammatory, and hematologic markers were found to be shared between the two conditions. Albumin and hemoglobin were negatively associated with both frailty and sarcopenia. Interleukin 6 was associated with frailty and sarcopenia only in people aged < 75. Community-dwelling older adults with frailty and sarcopenia had higher levels of tumor necrosis factor alpha compared with their robust and non-sarcopenic counterparts. CONCLUSIONS A set of metabolic, hematologic, and inflammatory biomarkers was found to be shared by frailty and sarcopenia. These findings fill a knowledge gap in the quest of biomarkers for these conditions and provide a rationale for biomarker selection in studies on frailty and sarcopenia.

Abstract
Frailty is an age-related clinical syndrome that may increase the risk of falls, disability, hospitalization, and death in older adults. Delaying the progression of frailty helps improve the quality of life in older adults. Caloric restriction (CR) may extend lifespan and reduce the risk of age-related diseases. However, few studies have explored the relationship between CR and frailty. In this review, we focused on the impact of CR on frailty and aimed to identify potential associated mechanisms. Although CR may help prevent frailty, further studies are required to determine the underlying mechanisms and specific CR regimens suitable for use in humans.

Abstract
BACKGROUND & AIMS The favorable effect of caloric restriction (CR) on health span is well known and partly mediated by the sirtuin system. Sirtuin1, a regulator of energy homeostasis in response to nutrient availability, is activated by CR. We therefore investigated effects of two different CR regimens on Sirtuin1 concentrations. METHODS & RESULTS The study included 112 abdominally obese subjects, randomized to intermittent or continuous CR for 1 year. Blood samples and anthropometric measures were collected at baseline and after 12 months. Sirtuin1 concentrations were measured by ELISA. Sirtuin1 correlated significantly to BMI at baseline (r = .232, p = 0.019). Mean reduction in body-weight was 8.0 and 9.0 kg after intermittent and continuous CR, respectively. After 1 year, no significant between-group differences in Sirtuin1 levels were observed according to regimen (p = 0.98) and sex (p = 0.41). An increase in median Sirtuin1 concentrations (pg/mL) [25, 75 percentiles] from baseline was observed after intermittent CR in the total population (884 [624, 1285] vs.762 [530, 1135]; p = 0.041), most marked in men (820 [623, 1250] vs. 633 [524, 926]; p = 0.016). Improvement in BMI after 1 year correlated to Sirtuin1 changes, but varied according to sex. In women, Spearman's rho = .298, p = 0.034, with stronger correlation in the intermittent CR group (r = .424, p = 0.049). In men, there was an inverse relation to Sirtuin1 changes, only in the intermittent CR group (r = -.396, p = 0.045). CONCLUSIONS Effects on Sirtuin1 concentrations after 1 year of CR are sex and BMI-related. Intermittent CR regimen affected Sirtuin1 to a stronger extent than continuous CR, suggesting individualized dietary intervention.

Abstract
Although geriatric research in general has increased in recent years, there is no effective treatment for frailty. Among older adults, those with frailty have an increased risk of falls, disability, and death. The population of older adults has increased rapidly in China, and resulting in an increased demand for medical care services for older adults, including those with frailty. However, much of the research on frailty has been conducted in Europe and the United States, and European and American standards for frailty are not always applicable to Chinese individuals. Clinicians and researchers in China have shown increasing interest in frailty in recent years. Here, we reviewed the current state of frailty research in China.

Abstract
Frailty is a clinical state characterized by an age-related unsteady state of the body, a decline in physiological function, and an increased vulnerability to adverse outcomes. Early diagnosis of frailty is important for improving the quality of life in older adults and promoting healthy aging. The biological mechanisms underlying frailty have been extensively studied in recent years. Combining assessment tools and biomarkers can facilitate the early diagnosis of frailty. However, there is a lack of stable and reliable frailty-related biomarkers for use in clinical practice. Advances in the multi-omics platforms have provided new information on the molecular mechanisms underlying frailty. Thus, identifying biomarkers using omics-based approaches helps explore the physiological mechanisms underlying frailty, and aids the evaluation of the risk of frailty development and progression. This article reviews the current status of frailty biomarkers from the genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, and metabolomics perspectives.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION During aging, individuals can be classified as being in one of 3 different states: robust, frail or dependent. Frailty is described as reversible, so early detection offers the potential of returning the subject to a robust status. There are multiple clinical frailty scales but no gold standard and frailty is not systematically assessed in clinicians' daily practice. Reliable biomarkers of frailty are lacking, however, while their identification and systematic use would make this simple scale a useful clinical tool. OBJECTIVE To conduct a review of the literature concerning the biomarkers associated with frailty and to compare in a meta-analysis the plasmatic values of each biomarker in the frail with the robust group. RESULTS 503 articles were identified on PubMed, 467 on Scopus and 369 on Web Of Science. 67 articles were included, collecting a total of 32,934 robust subjects and 6864 frail subjects. C-reactive protein (CRP) (Standardized Mean Difference (SMD): 0.49 CI 95% [0.37-0.61]) was significantly higher in the frail group whereas hemoglobin (SMD: -0.67[-0.90; -0.44]), albumin (SMD: -0.62[-0.84; -0.41]), 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25OHD) (SMD: -0.43 [-0.64; -0.21]) and, in men, free testosterone (SMD: -0.77 [-1.05; -0.49]) were significantly lower in the frail group. CONCLUSION We found 5 biomarkers that were associated with frailty (CRP, hemoglobin, albumin, 25OHD and free testosterone in men) belonging to multiple physiological systems. Further cohort studies are needed to verify their ability to screen for frailty.

Abstract
Declines in both physical and cognitive function are associated with increasing age. Understanding the physiological link between physical frailty and cognitive decline may allow us to develop interventions that prevent and treat both conditions. Although there is significant epidemiological evidence linking physical frailty to cognitive decline, a complete understanding of the underpinning biological basis of the two disorders remains fragmented. This narrative review discusses insights into the potential roles of chronic inflammation, impaired hypothalamic-pituitary axis stress response, imbalanced energy metabolism, mitochondrial dysfunction, oxidative stress, and neuroendocrine dysfunction linking physical frailty with cognitive decline. We highlight the importance of easier identification of strategic approaches delaying the progression and onset of physical frailty and cognitive decline as well as preventing disability in the older population.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Frailty is one of the most important risk factors for adverse outcomes in older adults. Despite a high prevalence, there is still a lack of frailty screening instruments specific to Chinese older adults. We developed a simple frailty screening questionnaire (FSQ) that could predict long-term mortality. We aimed to explore the reliability and construct validity of this new measurement tool. METHODS A total of 205 individuals aged 65 years or older were recruited in this study. The FSQ and frailty phenotype were assessed. The FSQ included self-reported slowness, weakness, weight loss, inactivity, and exhaustion. A subgroup of 109 participants completed the FSQ a second time 2 weeks later for test-retest reliability. Frailty phenotype included slowness, exhaustion, weight loss, weakness, and inactivity. RESULTS The intraclass correlation coefficient for the FSQ, slowness, weakness, weight loss, inactivity and exhaustion were 0.937, 0.938, 0.934, 0.921, 0.826, and 0.832, respectively. Using a cut-off of 3, the sensitivity, specificity, and area under the curve of the receiver operating characteristic were 52.6%, 93.5%, and 0.883 (p < 0.001), respectively. The kappa coefficient between the FSQ and frailty phenotype was 0.431 (p < 0.001). FSQ score was negatively correlated with walking speed and grip strength, and positively correlated with age. Frailty defined by the FSQ was associated with older age, chronic diseases, and worse physical function. CONCLUSIONS The FSQ is a potentially useful, reliable, and valid instrument in screening frailty in older adults, and can be recommended to identify frailty in clinical settings.
