Abstract
The triglyceride glucose (TyG) index is used to assess insulin resistance, which is associated with the occurrence and development of cardiovascular diseases, but the risk of carotid plaques is controversial in Asia. We searched PubMed, Embase, Scopus, and Cochrane Library for articles published up to October 15, 2023, to assess the association and dose-response association of the TyG index with the risk of carotid plaques in Asia. The random effects model was used to calculate the effect estimates and 95% confidence intervals (CIs). A total of 534 articles were retrieved, and eleven studies were selected, involving 145 218 Asian participants. When the TyG index was analyzed as a categorical variable, compared with the low TyG index, the high TyG index increased the risk of carotid plaques (OR=1.38, 95% CI: 1.20, 1.60, p<0.001). As continuous variables were analyzed, similar results were observed (OR=1.33, 95% CI: 1.22, 1.45, p<0.001). Meanwhile, dose-response analysis showed that the risk of carotid plaque increased by 1.03 times for every unit increase in the TyG index (RR=1.03, 95% CI: 1.02, 1.03, p<0.001). Our meta-analysis indicates an association between the TyG index and the risk of carotid plaques in Asia. Further studies are required to substantiate these findings.

Abstract
BACKGROUND In recent years, triglyceride glucose (TyG) index, as a popular metabolic index, has been proposed as an alternative index of insulin resistance, and it has been proved to be associated with many cardiovascular diseases, but the relationship between it and aortic valve calcification is still unknown. METHODS A total of 450 aortic valve disease patients were enrolled in this study, including 361 patients with aortic valve calcification (AVC) (calcification group) and 89 patients without (control group). According to the severity of AVC, patients with AVC included severe calcification, moderate calcification and low calcification. The TyG index was calculated based on fasting triglyceride and fasting blood glucose levels. RESULTS The TyG index in the calcification group was significantly higher than that in the control group (P < .05), and with the increase of the degree of calcification, the TyG index showed an increasing trend. The univariate and multivariate logistic regression analysis showed TyG index has a high predictive value for the presence of AVC (OR (95% CI): 1.743 (1.036-2.933)) and severe AVC (OR (95% CI): 1.608 (1.143-2.262)). In assessing the predictive value of the TyG index distribution width for AVC, with the first quartile as a reference, the last quartile of the TyG index had significant predictive value for the presence of AVC and severe AVC. CONCLUSIONS TyG index was significantly associated with the presence and severity of AVC, suggesting that TyG index may be a valid predictor of AVC.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES The triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index is a novel diagnostic marker for various metabolic and cardiovascular diseases. However, little is known about the association of the TyG index with plasma atherogenicity, especially with its latent forms. The aim of this study was to assess the potential of the use of the TyG index as a marker of atherogenic risk. METHODS A total of 202 men with normolipidaemia, aged 20-60 years, were enrolled in this study. Fasting biochemical parameters were measured. The TyG index was calculated as ln[triglyceride(mg/dL)×glucose(mg/dL)]/2. The diagnostic ability of the TyG index for detecting atherogenic risk was tested by receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis. RESULTS A substantial portion of normolipidaemic men had deviations from the reference values for the indices calculated using apolipoproteins. Unfavorable values for the apolipoprotein (apo) B/apoA-I ratio, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol/apoB (LDL-C/apoB) ratio, and the atherogenic index (ATH index) were observed in 32.7%, 31.7%, and 14.4% of men, respectively. The results of ROC curve analysis showed that the TyG index had good diagnostic ability for identifying unfavorable apolipoprotein indices in normolipidaemic men. CONCLUSIONS Thus, the TyG index can be a valuable additional marker for assessing latent atherogenic risk; it can provide useful information for the diagnosis and treatment of early atherosclerosis.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Identifying high-risk populations and promoting stroke prevention measures can be achieved through studies on stroke and its risk factors. As a new alternative indicator of insulin resistance (IR), the triglyceride glucose (TyG) index may potentially increase stroke risk. However, the evidence confirming this association is inadequate and inconsistent, possibly due to variations in stroke assessment criteria or characteristics of the study populations. This study aims to evaluate the association between the TyG index and stroke risk level among individuals with normal-weight. METHODS A total of 30,895 participants aged ≥ 40 years with normal-weight were enrolled in this study. The TyG index was calculated as Ln [fasting triglycerides (mg/dL) × fasting glucose (mg/dL)/2]. Normal-weight was described as a body mass index (BMI) of 18.5-<24.0 kg/m2. Stroke risk was assessed by the Stroke Risk Assessment Scale, developed by the China National Stroke Screening and Prevention Project. To evaluate the associations between the TyG index and stroke risk level, multivariate logistic regression models were employed. RESULTS Results showed that when the TyG index was considered as a continuous variable, each one unit increase in the TyG index was associated with a significantly higher risk of stroke [Moderate-risk (OR, 2.15; 95% CI, 2.03-2.28; P<0.001); High-risk (OR, 3.83; 95% CI, 3.57-4.10; P<0.001)]. Compared with Q1 of the TyG index, Q4 was significantly associated with moderate stroke risk (OR, 2.73; 95% CI, 2.50-2.99; P<0.001) and high stroke risk (OR, 5.39; 95% CI, 4.83-6.01; P<0.001). The continuous TyG index was an important risk factor for high stroke risk in the metabolically obese, normal-weight (MONW) individuals (OR, 3.44;95% CI, 2.92-4.06; P < 0.001). In the MONW individuals, when Q1 was used as a reference, participants in Q4 (OR, 5.33; 95% CI, 4.19-6.78; P < 0.001) was significantly associated with high stroke risk. Subgroup analysis showed significant interaction in the age and sex subgroups in the overall population (Pinteraction <0.001). CONCLUSION The risk of stroke is increased with the TyG index among Chinese adults of normal weight; hence, the index may be an important indicator for identifying high-risk stroke populations among individuals with normal body weight.

Abstract
This study assessed the association between atherosclerosis indices, serum uric acid to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol ratio (UHR) and triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index and the prevalence of hypertension among MASHAD cohort participants. In this cross-sectional study, the participants were divided into hypertensive and non-hypertensive subjects. The atherosclerosis indices, UHR and TyG index of the two groups were compared. Logistic regression analyses were used to determine the associations of these indices with hypertension in both sex. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis was used to establish the cut-off values for differentiating hypertensive from non-hypertensive subjects. p-values < .05 were considered statistically significant. Data related to 9675 subjects (3035 hypertensive and 6640 non-hypertensive) were analyzed. The mean values of atherosclerosis indices, UHR and TyG index were significantly higher (p < .001) in the hypertensives compared to non-hypertensives. After adjustment for potential confounders, among men, the TyG index (OR = 1.360; 95% CI: 1.210-1.530; p < .001) remained an independent factor for hypertension. Among women, atherogenic index of plasma (OR = 1.005; 95% CI: 1.002-1.007; p < .001), UHR (OR = 1.043; 95% CI: 1.026-1.060; p < .001) and TyG index (OR = 1.519; 95% CI: 1.376-1.677; p < .001) remained independent factors for hypertension. ROC curve analysis revealed that compare to the other indices, TyG index had a better predictive value for hypertension in both sex, especially in women.

Abstract
Recently, the role of trace elements in the pathophysiology of obesity, insulin resistance (IR), and metabolic diseases has been explored. In this cross-sectional study, we aimed to assess the association of overweight, obesity, and cardiometabolic traits with serum copper (Cu) levels in 346 Mexican adults. Serum Cu level was measured by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). Anthropometrical data were collected, and biochemical parameters were measured. The triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index was used as a surrogate marker to evaluate IR. Overweight and obesity status was positively associated with the serum Cu level (β = 19.434 ± 7.309, p = 0.008). Serum Cu level was observed to have a positive association with serum triglycerides level (β = 0.160 ± 0.045, p < 0.001) and TyG (β = 0.001 ± 0.001, p < 0.001). Additionally, high serum Cu level was positively associated with overweight and obesity status (odds ratio [OR] = 1.9, 95% confidence interval [95% CI] 1.1-3.4, p = 0.014), hypertriglyceridemia (OR = 3.0, 95% CI 1.7-5.3, p < 0.001), and IR (OR = 2.6, 95% CI 1.4-4.6, p = 0.001). In conclusion, our results suggest that overweight, obesity, hypertriglyceridemia, and IR are positively associated with serum Cu levels in Mexican adults.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Non-insulin-based insulin resistance (NI-IR) indices have been reported to have an association with prevalent hypertension, however, no cohort studies to date have compared their prediction of hypertension among young adults. METHODS A total of 2,448 military men and women, aged 18-39 years, without baseline hypertension in Taiwan were followed for incident hypertension events from 2014 until the end of 2020. All subjects underwent annual health examinations including measurements of blood pressure (BP) in mmHg. Systolic BP (SBP) 130-139/diastolic BP (DBP) < 80, SBP < 130/DBP 80-89, and SBP 130-139/DBP 80-89 were respectively defined as stage I isolated systolic hypertension (ISH), isolated diastolic hypertension (IDH) and combined hypertension (CH). The cut-off levels of stage II hypertension for SBP and DBP were 140-159 and 90-99, respectively. Four NI-IR indices included the ratio of serum triglycerides (TG) to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), TyG index defined as ln[TG* fasting glucose (FG)/2], Metabolic Score for IR (METS-IR) defined as ln[(2* FG) + TG)* body mass index (BMI)/(ln(HDL-C))], and ZJU index defined as BMI + FG + TG + 3* alanine transaminase/aspartate transaminase (+ 2 if female). Multivariable Cox regression analysis was performed with adjustments for baseline age, sex, body mass index, BP, substance use, family history for early onset cardiovascular diseases or hypertension, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, kidney function, serum uric acid and physical activity to determine the associations. RESULTS During a median follow-up of 6.0 years, there were 920 hypertension events (37.6%). Greater TyG, TG/HDL-C and METS-IR indices were associated with a higher risk of stage I IDH (hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals: 1.376 (1.123-1.687), 1.082 (1.039-1.127) and 3.455 (1.921-6.214), respectively), whereas only greater ZJU index was associated with a higher risk of stage II IDH [HRs: 1.011 (1.001-1.021)]. In addition, greater ZJU index was associated with a higher risk of stage II ISH [HR: 1.013 (1.003-1.023)], and greater TyG index was associated with a higher risk of stage II CH [HR: 2.821 (1.244-6.395)]. CONCLUSION Insulin resistance assessed by various NI-IR indices was associated with a higher risk of hypertension in young adults, while the assessment ability for specific hypertension category may differ by NI-IR indices.

Abstract
Dietary patterns (DPs) are an essential tool to analyze the relationship between diet and health as they have presented an association with the incidence of chronic non-communicable diseases. Therefore, the aim of this study was the identification and characterization of DPs and their association with cardiovascular risk factors. For this purpose, a cross-sectional descriptive study was carried out in 165 Mexican adults, including dietary intakes derived from a validated food frequency questionnaire, clinical history, anthropometry, and biochemical biomarkers using standardized procedures for glucose, total cholesterol, triglycerides, LDL-c, and HDL-c. DPs were identified through principal component analysis and ordinal logistic regression was used to examine associations between DPs and cardiovascular disease risk factors. Three DPs were identified: Mexican Fast-Food, Variety-Food, and Healthy-Economic, with a high prevalence of overweight and obesity (78%). Having a high adherence to a Mexican Fast-Food pattern (OR 1.71 CI 1.4-2.8), being sedentary (OR 4.85 2.32-10.15) and smoking (0R 6.4 CI 2.40-16.9) increased the risk of having a high scale of risk factors (four or more risk factors simultaneously). In conclusion, the Mexican Fast-Food pattern showed an increase in the risk of having multiple risk factors, while a sedentary lifestyle and overeating were largely responsible for the prevalence of overweight and obesity in this group of Mexican adults.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index has been proposed as a surrogate marker of insulin resistance. However, the relationship between the TyG index and central blood pressure (BP), has not been well studied in adults. METHODS A total of 715 Chinese adult participants were enrolled in this study. Anthropometric and BP were assessed. The TyG index was calculated as ln[fasting triglycerides(mg/dL) × fasting glucose(mg/dL)/2]. Central BP was measured using SphygmoCor system. RESULTS The participants were stratified into three groups based on the TyG index, and significant differences were observed in metabolic and cardiovascular parameters and the prevalence of hypertension among the groups. Both brachial (β = 1.38, P = 0.0310; group highest vs. lowest, β = 2.66, P = 0.0084) and aortic (β = 2.38, P = 0.0002; group highest vs. lowest, β = 3.96, P = 0.0001) diastolic BP were significantly and independently associated with the TyG index and increasing TyG index tertile. However, there was no independent association between the TyG index and systolic BP. A one-unit increase in the TyG index was associated with a 46% higher risk of hypertension (P = 0.0121), and compared with the lowest group, participants in the highest group had a 95% higher risk of hypertension (P = 0.0057). CONCLUSIONS Our study demonstrates a significant and independent association between the TyG index and both brachial and aortic diastolic BP in Chinese adults. Furthermore, the TyG index was found to be an independent predictor of hypertension.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Diabetes and hyperlipidaemia are both risk factors for coronary artery disease, and both are associated with a high triglyceride-glucose index (TyG index). The TyG index has been presented as a marker of insulin resistance (IR). Its utility in predicting and detecting cardiovascular disease has been reported. However, few studies have found it to be a helpful marker of atherosclerosis in patients with symptomatic coronary artery disease (CAD). The purpose of this study was to demonstrate that the TyG index can serve as a valuable marker for predicting coronary and carotid atherosclerosis in symptomatic CAD patients, regardless of diabetes mellitus and hyperlipidaemia. METHODS This study included 1516 patients with symptomatic CAD who underwent both coronary artery angiography and carotid Doppler ultrasound in the Department of Cardiology at Tianjin Union Medical Center from January 2016 to December 2022. The TyG index was determined using the Ln formula. The population was further grouped and analysed according to the presence or absence of diabetes and hyperlipidaemia. The Gensini score and carotid intima-media thickness were calculated or measured, and the patients were divided into four groups according to TyG index quartile to examine the relationship between the TyG index and coronary or carotid artery lesions in symptomatic CAD patients. RESULTS In symptomatic CAD patients, the TyG index showed a significant positive correlation with both coronary lesions and carotid plaques. After adjusting for sex, age, smoking, BMI, hypertension, diabetes, and the use of antilipemic and antidiabetic agents, the risk of developing coronary lesions and carotid plaques increased across the baseline TyG index. Compared with the lowest quartile of the TyG index, the highest quartile (quartile 4) was associated with a greater incidence of coronary heart disease [OR = 2.55 (95% CI 1.61, 4.03)] and carotid atherosclerotic plaque [OR = 2.31 (95% CI 1.27, 4.20)] (P < 0.05). Furthermore, when compared to the fasting blood glucose (FBG) or triglyceride (TG) level, the TyG index had a greater area under the ROC curve for predicting coronary lesions and carotid plaques. The subgroup analysis demonstrated the TyG index to be an equally effective predictor of coronary and carotid artery disease, regardless of diabetes and hyperlipidaemia. CONCLUSION The TyG index is a useful marker for predicting coronary and carotid atherosclerosis in patients with symptomatic CAD, regardless of diabetes mellitus and hyperlipidaemia. The TyG index is of higher value for the identification of both coronary and carotid atherosclerotic plaques than the FBG or TG level alone.

Abstract
BACKGROUND This study aimed to compare the cardio-metabolic, anthropometric, and liver function indices among metabolic obesity phenotypes. METHODS In this cross-sectional study, which was carried out in Hoveyzeh, Khuzestan Province, Iran, a total of 7,464 individuals (male: 2859, female: 4605), were recruited and classified into four groups, based on Body Mass Index (obese, BMI ≥ 30 kg/m2; non-obese, BMI = 18.5-29.9 kg/m2) and the National Cholesterol Education Program and Adult Treatment Panel (NCEP ATP) III criteria (Healthy group, ≤ 1 of the criteria; Unhealthy group, ≥ 2 of the criteria), as follows: Metabolically Healthy Non-Obese (MHNO, 28.14%), Metabolically Unhealthy Non-Obese (MUNO, 33.06%), Metabolically Healthy Obese (MHO, 6.54%), and Metabolically Unhealthy Obese (MUO, 32.26%). Anthropometric indices (Waist/Hip Ratio (WHR), Waist/Height Ratio (WHtR), Body Adiposity Index (BAI), Visceral Adiposity Index (VAI), and Weight adjusted Waist Index (WWI)), cardio-metabolic indices (Atherogenic Index of Plasma (AIP), Lipid Accumulation Product (LAP), Cardio-Metabolic Index (CMI), Lipoprotein Combine Index (LCI), Triglyceride-Glucose (TyG), TyG-BMI, TyG-WC, and Thrombolysis In Myocardial Infarction (TIMI) risk index), and hepatic indices (Hepatic Steatosis Index (HSI) and ALD/NAFLD index (ANI)) were calculated and compared between the groups. RESULTS WHR,VAI, AIP, LAP, CMI, LCI, TyG, and TIMI risk index values were significantly higher in the MUNO phenotype compared to the MHO phenotype (WHR: 0.97 vs. 0.95; VAI: 3.16 vs. 1.33; AIP: 0.58 vs. 0.25; LAP: 78.87 vs. 55.79; CMI: 2.69 vs. 1.25; LCI: 27.91 vs. 12.11; TyG: 9.21 vs. 8.41; TIMI: 18.66 vs. 15.63; p < 0.001). The highest and lowest HSI and ANI values were detected in the MUO phenotype. After adjustment for age, sex, physical activity, and years of education, VAI showed the highest Odds Ratio for MUNO (OR: 5.65; 95% CI: 5.12, 6.24) and MUO (OR: 5.40; 95% CI: 5.89, 5.95) compared to the MHNO phenotypes (p < 0.001). The ANI indices was associated with a reduced risk of MUO (OR: 0.76; 95% CI: 0.75-0.78), MUNO (OR: 0.88; 95% CI: 0.87-0.90), and MHO (OR: 0.79; 95% CI: 0.77-0.81) phenotypes (p < 0.001). CONCLUSION MUNO phenotype was exposed to a higher risk of cardiovascular disease compared to the MHO phenotype. VAI was found to be the optimal index for cardiovascular risk assessment.

Abstract
The present paper reports a sustainable raw material obtained from the by-products derived from the industrial production of bergamot (Citrus × Bergamia Risso & Poiteau) essential oils. The procedure to obtain the raw material is designed to maintain as much of the bioactive components as possible and to avoid expensive chemical purification. It consists of spray-drying the fruit juice obtained by squeezing the fruits, which is mixed with the aqueous extract of the pulp, i.e., the solid residue remained after fruit pressing. The resulting powder bergamot juice (PBJ) contains multiple bioactive components, in particular, among others, soluble fibers, polyphenols and amino-acid betaines, such as stachydrine and betonicine. LC-MS analysis identified 86 compounds, with hesperetin, naringenin, apigenin and eridictyol glucosides being the main components. In the second part of the paper, dose-dependent anti-inflammatory activity of PBJ and of stachydrine was found, but neither of the compounds were effective in activating Nrf2. PBJ was then found to be effective in an in vivo model of a metabolic syndrome induced by a high-sugar, high-fat (HSF) diet and evidenced by a significant increase of the values related to a set of parameters: blood glucose, triglycerides, insulin resistance, systolic blood pressure, visceral adipose tissue and adiposity index. PBJ, when given to control rats, did not significantly change these values; in contrast, they were found to be greatly affected in rats receiving an HSF diet. The in vivo effect of PBJ can be ascribed not only to bergamot polyphenols with well-known anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and lipid-regulating effects, but also to the dietary fibers and to the non-phenolic constituents, such as stachydrine. Moreover, since PBJ was found to affect energy homeostasis and to regulate food intake, a mechanism on the regulation of energy homeostasis through leptin networking should also be considered and deserves further investigation.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Previous studies showed that the triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index was a better predictor of adverse cardiovascular events than triglycerides or fasting blood glucose alone. However, few studies have focused on new-onset hypertension. We aimed to explore the association of TyG index with new-onset hypertension in Chinese adults. METHODS A total of 4,600 participants who underwent at least 2 rounds of visits from 2009 to 2015 in the China Health and Nutrition Survey were enrolled in this study. Our outcome of interest was new-onset hypertension. Multivariate Cox hazard regression models and restricted cubic spline were performed to explore the relationship between TyG index and new-onset hypertension. RESULTS The mean (standard deviation, SD) age of the study population was 48.1 (13.6) years, and 2058 (44.7%) of the participants were men. The mean (SD) TyG index level was 8.6 (0.7). A total of 1,211 (26.3%) participants developed new-onset hypertension during a median (interquartile range) follow-up duration of 6.0 (2.0-6.1) years. The incidences of new-onset hypertension were 18.1%, 25.3%, 28.5%, and 33.4% by quartiles of TyG index [from quartile 1 (Q1) to Q4], respectively. The Cox model showed that high levels of TyG index were significantly associated with increased risk of new-onset hypertension (adjusted hazard ratio [aHR]: 1.29, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.07-1.55, Q2; aHR, 1.24, 95% CI 1.03-1.49, Q3; aHR, 1.50, 95% CI 1.22-1.84, Q4) compared with Q1. Consistently, as a continuous variable, for every 1.0 increase in TyG index, there was a 17% increase in the risk of new-onset hypertension (aHR, 1.17; 95% CI 1.04-1.31). The associations were consistent in various subgroups and sensitivity analysis. The dose-response curve indicated a positive, linear association between TyG index and the risk of new-onset hypertension. CONCLUSIONS High TyG index was significantly associated with an increased risk of new-onset hypertension among Chinese adults. Our findings suggest that maintaining a relatively low level of TyG index might be effective in the primary prevention of hypertension.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND AIM We aimed to investigate the association of triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index and its dynamic change with risk of hypertension in rural Chinese and, further, to explore whether the TyG index mediates the obesity-related hypertension. METHODS AND RESULTS A prospective cohort study, including 10,309 subjects without hypertension at baseline, was conducted in 2007-2008 and followed up in 2013-2014. TyG index was calculated as Ln[fasting triglycerides (mg/dL) × fasting glucose (mg/dL)/2]. Logistic regression model was used to estimate the odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Mediation analysis was performed to examine the contribution of the TyG index to the association of obesity-hypertension incidence. During a median follow-up of 6 years, 2073 subjects developed hypertension. In multivariate logistic model adjusted for age, sex, alcohol drinking, smoking, physical activity and education, monthly income, family history of hypertension, TC, and HDL-C, the risk of hypertension was 1.14 (1.07-1.22) for per-SD increase in TyG. After additional controlling for obesity, this association was nonsignificant (1.06, 0.99-1.13) and (1.05, 0.99-1.13) for BMI and WC, respectively. Increasing trends were found for hypertension incidence as the TyG change increased, with or without adjustment for obesity (all Ptrend < 0.05). With per-SD increment in TyG change, the risks of hypertension incidence were 1.14 (1.07-1.22) for absolute TyG change, and 1.15 (1.08-1.22) for relative TyG change in multivariate logistic model; the results were significant after further adjustment for BMI or WC, respectively. The TyG index partially mediated the obesity-incident hypertension association: 6.84% for BMI and 6.68% for WC, respectively. CONCLUSIONS Elevated TyG index and its dynamic change were positively associated with risk of incident hypertension in rural Chinese population, and the TyG index may play a partially mediating role in obesity-related incident hypertension.

Abstract
BACKGROUND While studies have suggested the association between triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index, a reliable surrogate for insulin resistance and hypertension data are limited to the correlation of TyG and central blood pressure. This study aims to test the hypothesis that a higher TyG index is associated with elevated central systolic blood pressure (cSBP). METHODS A total of 9249 Chinese hypertensive adults from the H-type Hypertension and Stroke Prevention and Control Project were analyzed in this study. cSBP was measured noninvasively using an A-Pulse CASPro device. TyG index was calculated as ln [fasting triglycerides (mg/dL) × fasting glucose (mg/dL)/2]. Smoothing curve and multivariate linear regression models [beta coefficient (β) with 95% CI] were applied to analyze the association between TyG index and cSBP. Subgroup analyses were conducted to explore potential modifications to such a correlation. RESULTS The overall mean TyG index is 8.8 ± 0.7, and the total mean cSBP is 131.3 ± 12.8 mmHg. TyG index was observed to be independently and positively associated with cSBP among the total population (β = 0.92, 95% CI: 0.53-1.31, P < 0.001), and participants who do not use antihypertensive drugs (β = 1.03, 95% CI: 0.46-1.60, P < 0.001), which is in accordance with the result of the smoothing curve. The association between TyG index and cSBP appears robust in all tested subgroups. CONCLUSIONS TyG index is positively and independently associated with cSBP among hypertensive adults. Our study result suggests that TyG index might serve as an effective marker for vascular function.

Abstract
Obesity and insulin resistance are significant contributors to hypertension. There is a high prevalence of obesity among Uyghurs in the rural areas of Xinjiang, China. Therefore, this study aimed to explore the association between insulin resistance indices and hypertension according to different body weights in rural Uyghur residents of Xinjiang, China. A total of 12 813 local Uyghur residents were recruited for the study. Excluding those with incomplete data and those using antihypertensive, lipid‐lowering, or glycemic drugs, 9577 permanent residents were eligible for the study. Three insulin resistance indicators were calculated: triglyceride to high‐density lipoprotein cholesterol ratio, product of fasting triglyceride and glucose (TYG), and metabolic score for insulin resistance. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was performed to estimate the association between the three non‐insulin‐based insulin resistance indices and the risk of hypertension for different body weights. TYG was significantly associated with hypertension in the normal‐weight group, particularly in women. In the obese group that was obese, all three indicators were associated with hypertension. Since TYG was associated with hypertension in the groups with normal weight and obesity, it may be useful as a reference indicator for insulin resistance. This indicator may provide a basis for the identification and management of hypertension risk among adults in the Uyghur population.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND AIMS There is a bi-directional association between non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and insulin resistance in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and metabolic syndrome. The triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index is a novel surrogate marker of insulin resistance. In this population-based study, we aimed firstly to investigate the association of the TyG-index with metabolic-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) risk. METHODS This case-control study used the data from the first phase of the Persian Cohort Study in Sabzevar. Of 4,241 participants aged 35 to 70 years, we identified and recruited 968 MAFLD cases and 964 age- and sex-adjusted controls. Demographic, lifestyle, anthropometric, and biochemical information were collected. We calculated TyG and a new index combined of TyG and alanine aminotransferase (TyG-ALT). We used the multivariable unconditional logistic regression model to calculate the odds ratios (ORs) of the TyG and TyG-ALT for having MAFLD. RESULTS Among those in the highest relative to the lowest TyG and TyG-ALT tertiles, the multivariable-adjusted ORs were 12.01 (95% CI [confidence interval] 9.03 - 15.98; P trend < 0.001) and 10.89 (95% CI 7.66 - 15.48; P trend = 0.001), respectively. The area under the curves (AUC) for the TyG-index to predict MAFLD was 8.62, resulting in a cut-off value of 8.62 with a sensitivity of 81.66% and specificity of 75.36%. CONCLUSIONS The higher TyG and TyG-ALT scores were significantly positively associated with higher MAFLD risk in the Iranian population.

Abstract
Purpose This study aimed to explore the relationship between obesity- and lipid-related indices and insulin resistance (IR) and construct a personalized IR risk model for Xinjiang Kazakhs based on representative indices. Methods This cross-sectional study was performed from 2010 to 2012. A total of 2170 Kazakhs from Xinyuan County were selected as research subjects. IR was estimated using the homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance. Multivariable logistic regression analysis, least absolute shrinkage and selection operator penalized regression analysis, and restricted cubic spline were applied to evaluate the association between lipid- and obesity-related indices and IR. The risk model was developed based on selected representative variables and presented using a nomogram. The model performance was assessed using the area under the ROC curve (AUC), the Hosmer–Lemeshow goodness-of-fit test, and decision curve analysis (DCA). Results After screening out 25 of the variables, the final risk model included four independent risk factors: smoking, sex, triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index, and body mass index (BMI). A linear dose–response relationship was observed for the BMI and TyG indices against IR risk. The AUC of the risk model was 0.720 based on an independent test and 0.716 based on a 10-fold cross-validation. Calibration curves showed good consistency between actual and predicted IR risks. The DCA demonstrated that the risk model was clinically effective. Conclusion The TyG index and BMI had the strongest association with IR among all obesity- and lipid-related indices, and the developed model was useful for predicting IR risk among Kazakh individuals.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The triglyceride glucose (TyG) index is a novel surrogate marker of insulin resistance and increases cardiovascular disease risk. We sought to explore sex differences in the relationship between TyG and cardiovascular (CV) risk factors in metabolically obese normal weight (MONW) phenotype. METHOD We analyzed data of 1208 healthy men and nonpregnant women enrolled in a population-based longitudinal study from January 2017-June 2020. MONW phenotype was defined by normal body mass index (BMI: 18-<25 kg/m2) with at least one of the following metabolic disorders (MONW phenotype): elevated blood pressure (BP), hypertriglyceridemia, hyperglycemia, and low HDL cholesterol. Multiple logistic regression analysis was performed to assess the association between elevated TyG index and the CV risk factors in women and men and was presented in odds ratio (OR) with 95% confidence interval (CI). RESULTS Of 1208 subjects, 350 (29%) were MONW phenotype (mean age (years): male: 43.5 ± 12.4 and female: 43.1 ± 12.7) and 858 were metabolically healthy normal weight (MHNW; n = 858 (71%)). MONW women had higher mean values of the TyG index (8.03 ± 5.07) than men (7.47 ± 4.68). Multivariate analysis revealed that the elevated TyG index is significantly associated with MONW phenotype in women (adjusted OR: 8.73, 95% CI: 5.62-13.57) and men (aOR: 5.90, 95% CI: 4.23-8.23). TyG was found to be an excellent predictor of MONW status in both women (receiver operating characteristic (ROC) area under the curve (AUC): 0.979, 95% CI: 0.969-0.988) and men (ROC-AUC: 0.968, 95% CI: 0.952-0.983). CONCLUSION Our study revealed that the TyG index may represent a cost-effective and informative screening tool for the high-risk MONW phenotype.

Abstract
Disorders of metabolic obesity with normal body weight (MONW) are widely recognized risk factors for the development of cardiovascular diseases and type 2 diabetes. Despite this, MONW is not diagnosed in clinical practice. There is no consensus on the definition of MONW, and measuring the degree of insulin resistance or obesity among apparently healthy, non-obese patients is not widely applicable. The awareness of the relationship between metabolic disorders such as MONW and a higher risk of mortality from cardiovascular causes and other related diseases prompts the need for action to be taken aimed at creating appropriate diagnostic models that will allow for the effective detection of those with metabolic abnormalities among people with normal body weight. Such actions are decisive in the prevention and treatment of diseases. Therefore, the purpose of this article is to review the MONW diagnostic criteria used over the years.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Insulin resistance (IR) is a significant risk factor for cardiometabolic diseases and a defining feature of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). This study aimed to examine the potential value of triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index as a predictor of prognosis in coronary heart disease (CHD) patients with T2DM after coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) surgery and to facilitate the identification of those at high risk of major adverse cardiovascular events (MACEs) for closer monitoring or possible early intervention. METHODS This study enrolled 386 T2DM patients who underwent CABG surgery at Nanjing Drum Tower Hospital. Patients were separated into two groups according to the median preoperative TyG Index. The Kaplan-Meier plot was used to compare the rate of MACEs-free survival in T2DM patients after CABG. The independent risk factors for the occurrence of MACEs were investigated using multivariate analysis. Nomogram was used to depict the predictive model. RESULTS Significantly more MACEs occurred in individuals with higher medians of the TyG index (65 (33.7%) vs. 39 (20.2%), p=0.003). TyG index [hazard ratio (HR) 12.926], LVEF [hazard ratio (HR) 0.916], and NYHA functional class III/IV [hazard ratio (HR) 4.331] were identified as independent predictors of MACEs incidence in post-CABG T2DM patients by multivariate analysis. The area under the curve (AUC) for predicting MACEs using the TyG index was 0.89 at five years. Combining the TyG index, LVEF, and NYHA functional class III/IV to build a novel risk assessment model for postoperative MACEs, the AUC climbed to 0.93 at five years. With AUCs, the nomogram comprised of the TyG index, LVEF, and NYHA functional class III/IV demonstrated strong specificity in the training and test sets. CONCLUSIONS The incidence of MACEs is high among post-CABG T2DM patients with a high TyG index. TyG index improves the diagnostic accuracy of MACEs, especially at long-term follow-up. A high TyG index may serve as an early warning signal for individuals to undertake lifestyle adjustments that can reduce the progression or incidence of MACEs.

Abstract
AIM The triglyceride-glucose index (TyG index) is proposed as a surrogate parameter for insulin resistance (IR) and, when elevated, is related to increased cardiovascular risks. Whether the TyG index is of great value in predicting adverse prognosis for individuals diagnosed with non-ST-segment elevation acute coronary syndrome (NSTE-ACS), who received elective percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), and without recognized diabetes remains unclear. METHODS Overall, 1,510 subjects diagnosed with NSTE-ACS, who received elective PCI, and without recognized diabetes were enrolled in the current study. All participants received a routine follow-up after discharge. The TyG index was obtained from the following equation: napierian logarithmic (ln) [fasting triglyceride (TG, mg/dL)×fasting blood glucose (FBG, mg/dL)/2]. Adverse cardiovascular events included all-cause death, nonfatal myocardial infarction (MI), nonfatal ischemic stroke, and ischemia-driven revascularization, composite of which was defined as the primary endpoint. RESULTS Overall, 316 (20.9%) endpoint events were documented during a 48-month follow-up. Despite adjusting for confounding variates, the TyG index remains to be a significant risk predictor for the primary endpoint, with a hazard ratio (HR) [95% confidence interval (CI)] of 2.433 (1.853-3.196) (P<0.001). A significant enhancement on the predictive performance for the primary endpoint emerged when adding the TyG index into a baseline model [area under the receiver-operating characteristic (ROC) curve (AUC), 0.835 for baseline model vs. 0.853 for baseline model+TyG index, P<0.001; net reclassification improvement (NRI), 0.194, P<0.001; integrated discrimination improvement (IDI), 0.023, P=0.007]. CONCLUSIONS The TyG index is an independent risk predictor for adverse cardiovascular events in nondiabetic subjects diagnosed with NSTE-ACS and who received elective PCI. Further prospective studies are needed to verify these findings.

Abstract
PURPOSE Osteoporosis and atherosclerosis share common risk factors. Aim of this study was to test if FRAX (which is an algorithm that can identify subjects at risk of fracture), without or with BMD values, also adjusted for trabecular bone score (TBS) was able to identify subclinical atherosclerosis, evaluated by measurement of carotid intima media thickness (cIMT ≥ 0.9 mm) as compared to DXA values. METHODS Ninety postmenopausal women underwent DXA measurement and cIMT evaluation. For each patient, the FRAX algorithm for major osteoporotic fracture (M) and for hip fracture (H) without BMD was computed, together with FRAX with BMD and TBS-adjusted FRAX. Serum levels of osteoprotegerin, sRANKL, and interleukin-6 were also measured. RESULTS There were no differences in anthropometric parameters and cardiovascular risk factors between subjects with cIMT ≥ 0.9 mm (35% of subjects, group A) compared to those with cIMT < 0.9 mm (group B). The prevalence of osteoporosis and FRAX BMD, TBS-adjusted FRAX both for M and H were higher in group A compared to group B. The best ROC curves to identify subjects with a cIMT ≥ 0.9 mm were: lumbar spine T-score, with a threshold of - 2.5 SD (area under the curve, AUC 0.64; p = 0.02) with a sensibility of 50% and a specificity of 76%; TBS-adjusted FRAX H with a sensibility of 50% and a specificity of 72% (AUC 0.64; p = 0.01 with a threshold of 3%). Interleukin-6 positively correlated with FRAX BMD H and M. CONCLUSIONS FRAX without BMD does not identify subclinical carotid atherosclerosis, while lumbar spine T-score and TBS-adjusted FRAX H similarly detected it with higher specificity for T-score.

Abstract
Background: Triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index is a recently proposed surrogate indicator of insulin resistance. Previous studies evaluating the association between TyG index and hypertension risk in general adult population showed inconsistent results. We performed a meta-analysis to systematically evaluate this association. Methods: Observational studies, which evaluated the independent association between TyG index and hypertension in the general adult population, were identified by systematic search of PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, Wanfang data, and Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure databases. A random-effect model, which incorporated the potential intra-study heterogeneity, was used for the meta-analysis. Results: Eight observational studies including 200,044 participants were included. Results showed that compared with those with the lowest category of TyG index, subjects with the highest category of TyG index were associated with higher odds of hypertension [adjusted risk ratio (RR): 1.53, 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.26-1.85, I 2 = 54%, P < 0.001]. Sensitivity analysis by excluding one dataset at a time showed consistent result (adjusted RR: 1.44-1.62, P all < 0.001). Results of univariate meta-regression analysis showed that differences in sample size, mean age, male proportion, mean body mass index, and study quality score among the included studies did not have significant influence on the association between TyG index and hypertension (P values all > 0.10), suggesting that differences in these characteristics may not be the major source of heterogeneity. Subgroup analyses showed that study characteristics such as study design, participant ethnicity, age, or sex of the participants did not significantly affect the association (P for subgroup difference all >0.05). Conclusions: Higher TyG index may be associated with higher odds of hypertension in general adult population. Large-scale prospective cohort studies are needed to validate these findings, and further studies are needed to elucidate the potential pathophysiological mechanisms underlying the association between TyG index and hypertension.

Abstract
The aim of the study was to evaluate the influence of the red cabbage extracts on the bioaccessibility of their isothiocyanates, and their effect on the intestinal microbiota using a dynamic model of human digestion treated with the gut microbiome of obese adults. The elicitation of red cabbage plants with methyl jasmonate (MeJA) duplicated the content of glucosinolates (GSLs) in the plant organs used for elaborating the encapsulated formula. The use of plasma membrane vesicles, according to a proper methodology and technology, showed a high retention of sulforaphane (SFN) and indol-3-carbinol (I3C) over the course of the 14-day digestion study. The microbiome was scarcely affected by the treatments in terms of microbiota composition or the Bacteroidetes/Firmicutes ratio, but a 3 to 4-fold increase was observed in the production of butyric acid with the encapsulated extract treatment. Based on our pilot red cabbage extract study, the consumption of this extract, mainly encapsulated, may play a potential role in the management of obesity in adults.

Abstract
This study aimed to compare the accuracy of novel lipid indices, including the visceral adiposity index (VAI), lipid accumulation product (LAP), triglycerides and glucose (TyG) index, TyG-body mass index (TyG-BMI), and TyG-waist circumference (TyG-WC), in identifying insulin resistance and establish valid cutoff values. This cross-sectional study used the data of 11,378 adults, derived from the United States National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (1999-2016). Insulin resistance was defined as a homeostasis model assessment-insulin resistance value above the 75th percentile for each sex and race/ethnicities. The area under the curves (AUCs) were as follows: VAI, 0.735; LAP, 0.796; TyG index, 0.723; TyG-BMI, 0.823, and; TyG-WC, 0.822. The AUCs for TyG-BMI and TyG-WC were significantly higher than those for VAI, LAP, and TyG index (vs. TyG-BMI, p < 0.001; vs. TyG-WC, p < 0.001). The cutoff values were as follows: VAI: men 1.65, women 1.65; LAP: men 42.5, women 42.5; TyG index: men 4.665, women 4.575; TyG-BMI: men 135.5, women 135.5; and TyG-WC: men 461.5, women 440.5. Given that lipid indices can be easily calculated with routine laboratory tests, these values may be useful markers for insulin resistance risk assessments in clinical settings.

Abstract
BACKGROUND To investigate whether the Triglyceride-Glucose index (TyG-index) is associated with increased risk of cardiovascular diseases (CVD)/coronary heart disease (CHD). METHODS A total of 7521 Iranians aged ≥ 30 years (male = 3367) were included in the study. Multivariate Cox regression analyses (adjusted for age, gender, waist circumference, body mass index, educational level, smoking status, physical activity, family history of CVD, type 2 diabetes, hypertension, low and high density lipoprotein cholesterol, and lipid lowering drugs) were used to assess the risk of incident CVD/CHD across quintiles and for 1-standard deviation (SD) increase in the TyG-index. The cut off point for TyG-index was assessed by the minimum value of [Formula: see text]. We also examined the added value of the TyG-index in addition to the Framingham risk score when predicting CVD. RESULTS During follow-up, 1084 cases of CVD (male = 634) were recorded. We found a significant trend of TyG-index for incident CVD/CHD in multivariate analysis (both Ps for tend ≤ 0.002). Moreover, a 1-SD increase in TyG-index was associated with significant risk of CVD/CHD in multivariate analysis [1.16 (1.07-1.25) and 1.19 (1.10-1.29), respectively]. The cut-off value of TyG-index for incident CVD was 9.03 (59.2% sensitivity and 63.2% specificity); the corresponding value of TyG-index for incident CHD was 9.03 (60.0% sensitivity and 62.8% specificity), respectively. Although no interaction was found between gender and TyG-index for CVD/CHD in multivariate analysis (both Ps for interaction > 0.085), the significant trend of TyG-index was observed only among females for incident CVD (P = 0.035). A significant interaction was found between age groups (i.e. ≥ 60 vs < 60 years) and TyG-index for CVD outcomes in the multivariate model (P-value for interaction = 0.046). Accordingly, a significant association between the TyG-index and outcomes was found only among the younger age group. Among the population aged < 60 the addition of TyG-index to the Framingham risk score (FRS) did not show improvement in the predictive ability of the FRS, using integrated discrimination improvement. CONCLUSION The TyG-index is significantly associated with increased risk of CVD/CHD incidence; this issue was more prominent among the younger population. However, adding TyG-index to FRS does not provide better risk prediction for CVD.
