Abstract
Food contamination is a current global concern, thus rapid and accurate quantitative detection of contaminants is essential for ensuring food safety. Herein, a MOF-based mixed-matrix membrane (1@PMMA) was fabricated by incorporating a stable 2D luminescent Cd-MOF, {[Cd2(L)2(DMSO)2]·2DMSO}n (1) (H2L = 5-(4-(pyridin-4-yl)benzamido)benzene-1,3-dioic acid), into a flexible poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) matrix. The resulting 1@PMMA exhibited sensitive, strong anti-interference, recyclable, and visual detection of nitrofurazone (NFZ) and 2,6-dichloro-4-nitroaniline (DCN). Furthermore, a portable smartphone-assisted sensing platform was developed by coupling the luminescent 1@PMMA with a smartphone, to realize visual and on-site quantitative detection of NFZ and DCN in real food samples. This work provides a portable and intelligent sensing platform for the visual and on-site quantitative detection of antibiotic and pesticide residues in food samples, demonstrating significant potential for food safety monitoring and quality control.

Abstract
A pentafluoropropionic acid-functionalized fluorescent metal-organic framework material (UiO-66-NH2-PFPA) is prepared by a simple post-synthetic modification (PSM) strategy for the sensitive and selective detection of dichloran (DCN). The results of fluorescence experiments demonstrate that the sensitivity of UiO-66-NH2-PFPA (limit of detection, LOD = 0.478 μM) to DCN is nearly 10.93 times higher than that of UiO-66-NH2 (LOD = 5.225 μM) and the material has good selectivity and anti-interference ability. After the addition of DCN, the blue fluorescence of UiO-66-NH2-PFPA is obviously quenched. Therefore, the possible quenching mechanism is further discussed in combination with relevant experiments and density functional theory calculations. Moreover, the sensor is applied to the detection of DCN in fruit samples with a satisfactory recovery of 101.1-107.9%, which implies that UiO-66-NH2-PFPA is expected to be a candidate material for the detection of DCN in food.

Abstract
Developing sensitive, rapid, and convenient methods for the detection of residual toxic pesticides is immensely important to prevent irreversible damage to the human body. Luminescent metal-organic cages and macrocycles have shown great applications, and designing highly emissive supramolecular systems in dilute solution using metal-ligand coordination-driven self-assembly is demanded. In this study, we have demonstrated the development of a silver-carbene bond directed tetranuclear silver(I)-octacarbene metallacage [Ag4(L)2](PF6)4 (1) based on an aggregation-induced emissive (AIE) cored 1,1',1″,1‴-((1,4-phenylenebis(ethene-2,1,1-triyl))tetrakis(benzene-4,1-diyl))tetrakis(3-methyl-1H-imidazol-3-ium) salt (L). A 36-fold enhanced emission was observed after metallacage (1) formation when compared with the ligand (L) in dilute solution due to the restriction of intramolecular motions imparted by metal-ligand coordination. Such an increase in fluorescence made 1 a potential candidate for the detection of a broad-spectrum pesticide, 2,6-dichloro-nitroaniline (DCN). 1 was able to detect DCN efficiently by the fluorescence quenching method with a significant detection limit (1.64 ppm). A combination of static and dynamic quenching was applicable depending on the analyte concentration. The use of silver-carbene bond directed self-assembly to exploit coordination-induced emission as an alternative to AIE in dilute solution and then apply this approach to solve health and safety concerns is noteworthy and carries a lot of potential for future developments.

Abstract
Current-use Organoamine Pesticides (CUOAPs) are a growing concern as emerging pesticide pollutants that were initially discovered on a large scale in Chinese Marginal Seas (CMSs). The highest level was detected in the East China Sea in the late spring and decreased in the following order: East China Sea (early spring) > the South China Sea > the Bohai Sea. The crucial role played by the Yangtze and Yellow rivers as significant terrestrial sources were established. The fluctuations in the land application and riverine input led to variations in the source, distribution, and seasonal patterns of CUOAPs. Terrestrial-exported CUOAPs were transported and redistributed spatially by the surface ocean currents, resulting in significant regional disparities. The results displayed a pronounced terrestrial source signature and a cross-regional impact. By the ocean current transport, CMSs will likely become a secondary source region for the surrounding seas.

Abstract
Aromatic amines (AA) are carcinogenic compounds that can enter the human body through many sources, one of the most important being tobacco smoke. They are excreted with the urine, from which they can be extracted and measured. To that end, hollow fiber-liquid-phase microextraction (HF-LPME) and parallel artificial liquid membrane extraction (PALME) were optimized for the analysis of representative aromatic amines, as alternatives to liquid-liquid extraction (LLE). Relevant extraction parameters, namely organic solvent, extraction time, agitation speed, and acceptor solution pH, were studied, and the two optimized techniques-HF-LPME: dihexyl ether, 45 min, 250 rpm, and pH 1; PALME: undecane, 20 min, 250 rpm and pH 1-were compared. Comparison of the optimized methods showed that significantly higher recoveries could be obtained with PALME than with HF-LPME. Therefore, PALME was further validated. The results were successful for nine different AA, with regression coefficients (R2) of at least 0.991, limits of detection (LOD) of 45-75 ng/L, and repeatability and peak area relative standard deviations (RSD) below 20%. Furthermore, two urine samples from smokers were measured as proof of concept, and 2-methylaniline was successfully quantified in one of them. These results show that PALME is a great green alternative to LLE. Not only does it use much smaller volumes of toxic organic solvents, and sample-enabling the study of samples with limited available volumes-but it is also less time consuming and labor intensive, and it can be automated.

Abstract
2,6-Dichloro-4-nitroaniline, alias dicloran (DCN), is a broad-spectrum pesticide that can cause irreversible damage to the human body. Therefore, it is of great significance to develop a technology for the rapid and convenient detection of DCN. Luminescent metal organic frameworks have attracted extensive attention in the field of sensing and detection due to their excellent optical properties. In this study, two kinds of 2D Cd-MOFs (CdMOF-1 and CdMOF-2) were developed for the detection of residual DCN in the environment. Both CdMOFs exhibit excellent solvent and acid-base stability and can respond to DCN quickly and sensitively in a short time (30 s). CdMOFs not only have good selectivity and anti-interference toward DCN but also have good reusability. Under the conditions of DCN concentrations of 1-15 and 0.3-30 μM, the change in fluorescence intensity of CdMOF-1 and CdMOF-2 showed a good linear relationship with DCN concentration (R2 = 0.999/0.991), and the detection limits were 0.36 and 0.12 μM, respectively. Through ultraviolet-visible absorption spectroscopy (UV-Vis), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, fluorescence lifetime, and density functional theory calculations, it is revealed that the fluorescence quenching mechanisms of DCN for two kinds of Cd-MOFs are competitive absorption and photoinduced electron transfer, and there may be a weak π-π interaction. Finally, it is demonstrated that by using two types of fluorescent CdMOFs to make the fluorescent test paper and detect actual soil, these can be applied to the actual scene and achieve onsite real-time detection.

Abstract
A very simple, sensible and advanced new methodology for the determination of copper species in seawater has been developed. The method consisted of two steps: first a separation/preconcentration of copper species by using liquid phase microextraction-based solvent bars followed by the direct analysis of these solid polymeric micro-samplers in an atomic absorption spectrometer provided with a device for direct analysis. For liquid microextraction, di-2-pyridylketone benzoylhydrazone (dPKBH) dissolved in octan-1-ol was selected as the extracting agent due to its ability to transport inorganic Cu species from seawater samples. The optimum chemical and physical conditions for copper micro-extraction were sample pH 8, a dPKBH concentration of 0.010 mol L-1, a stirring speed of 800 rpm and an extraction time of 10 min. A graphite furnace temperature program was optimised to assure the complete elimination of the solvent bar matrix, and the atomisation step took place at 2200 °C. The method exhibited a limit of detection of 0.026 μg L-1 of copper and a linear range up to 1.50 μg L-1, showing great repeatability and reproducibility (4.07% and 4.43%, respectively). Suitability of the method was confirmed by analysing a certified reference material (CASS-4) under optimum conditions, being the first time ever that a direct solid analysis-based method has been used for the determination of total dissolved copper concentration in seawater. Furthermore, the method was applied to the determination of the operationally defined transportable Cu fraction in seawater samples at natural conditions and the results were compared with theoretical data provided by Visual MINTEQ® 3.1 software. A mathematical model that permits to estimate total dissolved copper concentration was obtained, and the non-transportable copper fraction was calculated by difference.

Abstract
In this research, homogeneous liquid-liquid extraction followed by ion mobility spectrometry (HLLE-IMS) with corona discharge ionization source has been developed for the determination of p-toluidine. The analyte was extracted by single-phase extraction in a ternary solvent system and then the extracted p-toluidine was injected into IMS for analysis. Optimization of different parameters which could influence HLLE-IMS was performed. Under optimum conditions, the dynamic linear range was obtained over 2.0-40.0 ng/mL with R (2) = 0.9966 while relative standard deviation was below 10 %. The limits of detection and quantification were 0.6 and 2.0 ng/mL of p-toluidine, respectively. The proposed method was applied to determine p-toluidine in environmental water samples which resulted in acceptable recoveries of the analyte, ranging from 85.3 %-90 %.

Abstract
A new procedure is presented for the determination of low concentrations of lead and cadmium in water samples. Ligand assisted pseudo-stir bar hollow fiber solid/liquid phase microextraction using sol-gel sorbent reinforced with carbon nanotubes was combined with differential pulse anodic stripping voltammetry for simultaneous determination of cadmium and lead in tap water, and Darongar river water samples. In the present work, differential pulse anodic stripping voltammetry (DPASV) using a hanging mercury drop electrode (HMDE) was used in order to determine the ultra trace level of lead and cadmium ions in real samples. This method is based on accumulation of lead and cadmium ions on the electrode using different ligands; Quinolin-8-ol, 5,7-diiodo quinoline-8-ol, 4,5-diphenyl-1H-imidazole-2(3H)-one and 2-{[2-(2-Hydroxy-ethylamino)-ethylamino]-methyl}-phenol as the complexing agent. The optimized conditions were obtained. The relationship between the peak current versus concentration was linear over the range of 0.05-500 ng mL(-1) for Cd (II) and Pb (II). The limits of detection for lead and cadmium were 0.015 ng mL(-1) and 0.012 ng mL(-1), respectively. Under the optimized conditions, the pre-concentration factors are 2440 and 3710 for Cd (II) and Pb (II) in 5 mL of water sample, respectively.

Abstract
Organophosphate esters (OPEs) are widespread organic pollutants that could be detected in various environmental matrices. In this study, a sample pretreatment method was developed for the determination of 9 OPEs by automatic hollow fiber-liquid phase microextraction (HF-LPME) coupled with gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). High sensitivity of OPEs could be achieved after optimization of several important parameters with the limits of detection (LODs) ranging from 2.6 to 120 ng L(-1) for different individual OPEs, and the relative standard deviations (RSDs) ranged from 2.1% to 10.4%. Acceptable recoveries were observed and the proposed method was then successfully applied to determine OPEs in seawaters collected from 23 sampling sites of the Pearl River Estuaries in dry and wet seasons, respectively. All of the OPEs could be detected, except tris(2-ethylhexyl) phosphate (TEHP). The total concentrations of 9 OPEs in seawaters were ranging from 2.04 (Hemen) to 3.12 (Humen) μg L(-1) in the dry season and from 1.08 (Hemen) to 2.50 (Jitimen) μgL(-1) in the wet season. By using spatial interpolation method of ordinary kriging, the most polluted area of ΣOPEs was found in Humen in the dry season, while it was Jitimen in the wet season. Moreover, the annual input of ΣOPEs discharged via eight estuaries ranged from 384 tons (Jitimen) to 1,225 tons (Modaomen), and the total annual input was 5,694 tons.

Abstract
A hollow fiber-based liquid-phase microextraction method has been developed for enrichment of trace chloroanilines in water samples. Target analytes including aniline, three mono-chlorinated aniline isomers (o-chloroaniline, m-chloroaniline, and p-chloroaniline) and four mono-chlorinated methylaniline isomers (2-chloro-4-methylaniline, 3-chloro-4-methylaniline, 4-chloro-2-methylaniline, and 5-chloro-2-methylaniline) were determined by CE with amperometric detection after microextraction. Several factors that affect separation, detection, and extraction efficiency were investigated. Under the optimum conditions, eight aniline compounds could be well separated from other components coexisting in water samples within 25 min, exhibiting a linear calibration over three orders of magnitude (r > 0.998); the obtained enrichment factors were between 51 and 239, and the LODs were in the range of 0.01-0.1 ng/mL. The proposed method has been applied for the analyses of real environmental water and sewage samples with relative recoveries in the range of 83-108%.

Considerations on the application of miniaturized sample preparation approaches for the analysis of organic compounds in environmental matrices. OPEN CHEM 2012. Abstract
AbstractThe miniaturization and improvement of sample preparation is a challenge that has been fulfilled up to a point in many fields of analytical chemistry. Particularly, the hyphenation of microextraction with advanced analytical techniques has allowed the monitoring of target analytes in a vast variety of environmental samples. Several benefits can be obtained when miniaturized techniques such as solid-phase microextraction (SPME) or liquid-phase microextraction (LPME) are applied, specifically, their easiness, rapidity and capability to separate and pre-concentrate target analytes with a negligible consumption of organic solvents. In spite of the great acceptance that these green sample preparation techniques have in environmental research, their full implementation has not been achieved or even attempted in some relevant environmental matrices. In this work, a critical review of the applications of LPME and SPME techniques to isolate and pre-concentrate traces of organic pollutants is provided. In addition, the influence of the environmental matrix on the effectiveness of LPME and SPME for isolating the target organic pollutants is addressed. Finally, unsolved issues that may hinder the application of these techniques for the extraction of dissolved organic matter from environmental samples and some suggestions for developing novel and less selective enrichment and isolation procedures for natural organic matter on the basis of SPME and LPME are included.

Abstract
Hollow fiber liquid-phase microextraction (HF-LPME) technique was used as a clean-up procedure for the determination of organophosphorus pesticides (OPPs) in fish tissue. In this study, eight OPPs were first extracted with acetone from fish sample, the organic extract after rotatory evaporation was then redissolved with water-methanol (95:5, v/v) solution, followed by polyvinylidene difluoride (PVDF) HF-LPME. Experimental HF-LPME and other sample preparation conditions were carefully investigated and optimized. Under the optimum conditions, good linearity were observed in the range of 20-500 ng/g, limits of detections (LODs) were in the range of 2.1-4.5 ng/g. The repeatability and recovery of the method also showed satisfactory results. Compared with traditional sample preparation method for the determination of OPPs in fish tissue, the method developed in this study eliminated the solid phase extraction (SPE) step, simplified the sample preparation procedure and lowered the cost of analysis.

Abstract
A novel method of microemulsion electrokinetic chromatography (MEEKC) coupled with hollow fiber-liquid phase microextraction (HF-LPME) was developed for determination of six aromatic amines including 4-methylaniline, 3-nitroaniline, 2,4-dimethylaniline, 4-chloroaniline, 3,4-dichloraniline and 4-aminobiphenyl. Baseline separation of six aromatic amines was achieved within 8 min by using the microemulsion buffer containing a 10 mM borate buffer at pH 9.0, 0.8% (v/v) ethyl acetate as oil droplets, 60 mM sodium cholate as surfactant, 5.0% (v/v) 1-butanol as co-surfactant. The influence factors relevant to the HF-LPME process were systemically investigated. The obtained enrichment factors were ranged between 70 and 157 in a 30 min extraction time, and the limits of detection ranged between 0.0021 and 0.0048 microg/mL. This purposed method was successfully applied for the analysis of aromatic amines in water sample and the recoveries were ranged from 87.2% to 99.8%.

Abstract
The use of polypropylene porous membrane in a hollow fiber renewal liquid membrane (HFRLM) procedure for determination of Cd(II) in water samples was assessed. Ammonium O,O-diethyl dithiophosphate (DDTP) was used to complex cadmium (II) in an acid medium to obtain a neutral hydrophobic complex. The organic solvent introduced to the sample extracts this complex from the aqueous solution and carries it over the polypropylene membrane porous. The organic solvent is immobilized inside the polypropylene membrane porous, leading to an homogeneous phase. The complex strips the lumen of the membrane where, at higher pH, the complex Cd-DDTP is broken down and Cd(II) is released into the stripping phase. EDTA was used to complex the cadmium (II), helping to trap the analyte in the stripping phase. The optimized variables were: sample pH, DDTP concentration, stripping pH, EDTA concentration, extraction temperature and time, extractor solvent and addition of salt to saturate the sample. The sample volume used was 15 mL and the stripping volume was 165 microL. The analyte enrichment factor was 107, limit of detection 1.5 microg L(-1), relative standard deviation 4.0% (15 microg L(-1), n=7) and the working linear range 5-30 microg L(-1).
