Abstract
This study explores the reduction of carbamates (CAs) and pyrethroids (PYs) - commonly used pesticides - in lettuce using various immersion solutions and ultrasonic processing. It also examines the role of machine learning and molecular docking in understanding the mechanisms of pesticide reduction. The results revealed that the highest reduction of both CAs and PYs exceeded 80 % on lettuce leaves. In most samples, the reduction increased with the power of ultrasonic processing and processing time. The results of machine learning models (XGBoost and SHAP) showed that during the immersion cleaning of CAs and PYs, as well as during both immersion cleaning and ultrasonic processing of CAs + PYs, the reduction was most influenced by the initial pesticide levels and immersion time. Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) analysis of lettuce's wax layer identified 24 compounds, including fatty alcohols, fatty acids, fatty acid esters, and triterpenoids. Despite the absence of active sites, the lipophilic nature of long-chain aliphatic compounds aids in pesticide binding, while triterpenoids form strong hydrogen bonds with pesticides, indicating a robust adsorption on the lettuce surface. This study aims to offer insights into the efficient removal of chemical pesticide residues from fruits and vegetables, addressing critical concerns for food safety and human health.

Abstract
Pyrethroids (PYs) are widely applied pesticides whose residues pose potential health risks. This review describes current knowledge on PY chemical properties, usage patterns, environmental and food contamination, and human exposure models. It evaluates life cycle assessment (LCA), chemical alternatives assessment (CAA), and high-throughput screening (HTS) as tools for pesticide policy. Despite efforts to mitigate PY presence, their pervasive residues in the environment and food persist. And the highest concentrations ranged from 54,360 to 80,500 ng/L in water samples from agricultural fields. Food processing techniques variably reduce PY levels, yet no method guarantees complete elimination. This review provides insights into the fates and exposure pathways of PY residues in agriculture and food, and highlights the necessity for improved PY management and alternative practices to safeguard health and environment.

Abstract
The aquatic environment encompasses a wide variety of pollutants, from plastics to drug residues, pesticides, food compounds, and other food by-products, and improper disposal of waste is the main cause of the accumulation of toxic substances in water. Monitoring, assessing, and attempting to control the effects of contaminants in the aquatic environment are necessary and essential to protect the environment and thus human and animal health, and the study of aquatic ecotoxicology has become topical. In this respect, zebrafish are used as model organisms to study the bioaccumulation, toxicity, and influence of environmental pollutants due to their structural, functional, and material advantages. There are many similarities between the metabolism and physiological structures of zebrafish and humans, and the nervous system structure, blood-brain barrier function, and social behavior of zebrafish are characteristics that make them an ideal animal model for studying neurotoxicity. The aim of the study was to highlight the neurotoxicity of nanoplastics, microplastics, fipronil, deltamethrin, and rotenone and to highlight the main behavioral, histological, and oxidative status changes produced in zebrafish exposed to them.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Understanding the role of adjuvants in pesticide persistence is crucial to develop effective pesticide formulations and manage pesticide residues in fresh produce. This study investigated the impact of a commercial non-ionic surfactant product containing alkylphenol ethoxylates (APEOs) on the persistence of thiabendazole on apple and spinach surfaces against the 30 kg m-3 baking soda (sodium bicarbonate, NaHCO3 ) soaking, which was used to remove the active ingredient (AI) in the cuticular wax layer of fresh produce through alkaline hydrolysis. Surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) mapping method was used to quantify the residue levels on fresh produce surfaces at different experimental scenarios. Four standard curves were established to quantify surface thiabendazole in the absence and presence of APEOs, on apple and spinach leaf surfaces, respectively. RESULTS Overall, the result showed that APEOs enhanced the persistence of thiabendazole over time. After 3 days of exposure, APEOs increased thiabendazole surface residue against NaHCO3 hydrolysis on apple and spinach surfaces by 5.39% and 10.47%, respectively. CONCLUSION The study suggests that APEOs led to more pesticide residues on fresh produce and greater difficulty in washing them off from the surfaces using baking soda, posing food safety concerns. © 2023 Society of Chemical Industry.

Abstract
Fenpropathrin (FN), a pyrethroid has been linked to potential pulmonary toxic effects to humans via incident direct or indirect ingestion. Thus, we aimed to the investigate the underlying mechanisms of lung toxicity upon exposure to FN in the rat model, besides studying whether curcumin (CCM) and curcumin-loaded chitosan nanoformulation (CCM-Chs) can mitigate FN-induced lung damage. Six distinct groups, namely, control, CCM, CCM-Chs, FN, and CCM + FN, CCM-Chs + FN were assigned separately. The inflammatory, apoptotic, and oxidative stress states, histological, immunohistochemical, and immunofluorescence examination of different markers within the pulmonary tissue were applied. The results revealed that the FN-induced tissue damage might be caused by the oxidative stress induction and depressed antioxidant glutathione system in the lungs of rats. Furthermore, FN upregulated the expression of genes related to inflammation, and pyroptosis, and elevated the immunoreactivity of Caspase-3, tumor necrosis factor-α, vimentin, and 4-Hydroxynonenal in pulmonary tissues of FN-exposed rats compared to the control. CCM and CCM-Chs mitigated the FN-induced disturbances, while remarkably, CCM-Chs showed better potency than CCM in mitigating the FN-induced toxicity. In conclusion, this study shows the prominent preventive ability of CCM-Chs more than CCM in combatting the pulmonary toxicity induced by FN. This may be beneficial in developing therapeutic and preventive strategies against FN-induced pulmonary toxicity.

Abstract
Pyrethroid insecticides (PIs), a class of structurally similar non-persistent organic pollutants, can be degraded and metabolized to more toxic, and longer half-life products. In this study, the binding interaction mechanisms between human serum albumin (HSA) and the main degradation metabolites of PIs, 3-phenoxybenzoic acid (3-PBA) and 4-fluoro-3-phenoxybenzoic acid (4-F-3-PBA), were studied by theoretical simulation and experimental verification. Steady state fluorescence spectra showed that the fluorescence quenching mechanism was static. According to the binding constant, 4-F-3-PBA (1.53 × 105 L mol-1) was bound more strongly to HSA than 3-PBA (1.42 × 105 L mol-1) in subdomain ⅡA (site I). It was found by isothermal titration calorimetry that the metabolites and HSA spontaneously combined mainly through hydrogen bond and van der Waals interaction. Ultraviolet absorption spectra and circular dichroism spectra showed that the metabolites caused slight changes in the microenvironment and conformation of HSA. The above results were proved by molecular docking. The toxicity properties of the metabolites were further analyzed by software, and 4-F-3-PBA was found to be more toxic than 3-PBA. Considering the high exposure level of these metabolites in food, the environment and human body, it is necessary to further explore the toxicity of PIs metabolites.

Abstract
Rechargeable materials for the effective protection of dry food products were developed. β-cyclodextrin-thymol inclusion complex was covalently grafted on a solid platform of polyethylene terephthalate-viscose using either traditional cross-linker of epichlorohydrin, or natural cross-linker of citric acid. A correlation between the grafting method and physicochemical properties, loading capacity and release capabilities of the resulted materials was studied. The developed materials demonstrated antimicrobial properties preventing mold propagation in wheat grains. The treated grains showed normal germination abilities verifying that the prepared materials can protect dry food products without using harmful chemicals. The suggested approach can be extended to other applications and active agents. A combination of rechargeable films with natural volatiles can serve as an effective platform for sustainable active materials for food protection and in other fields such as agriculture, cosmetics, and medicine.

Abstract
Deltamethrin (DM) is a widely used pesticide and has been generally detected in aquatic systems. To systematically investigate the toxic effects, zebrafish embryos were treated with various concentrations of DM for 120h. The LC50 was determined to be 102 μg L-1. Lethal concentrations of DM induced severe morphological defects in the surviving individuals. Under non-lethal concentrations, DM suppressed the development of neurons in the larvae, which was associated with the reduction in locomotor activity. DM exposure induced cardiovascular toxicity, including suppressed growth of blood vessels and enhanced heart rates. DM also disrupted the development of bones in the larvae. Moreover, liver degeneration, apoptosis and oxidative stress were observed in the larvae treated with DM. Correspondingly, the transcriptional levels of the genes related to the toxic effects were altered by DM. In conclusion, the results obtained in this study provided evidence that DM showed multiple toxic effects on aquatic organisms.

Abstract
Methods involving solid-liquid extraction with low-temperature partition and analysis by gas chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry (GC-MS) were validated to investigate the dissipation/migration of residues of the postharvest fungicide imazalil in papaya skin, pulp, and seeds. The fruits were stored for 23 days (14 °C). Every two days, fruits from the control group and those treated with imazalil had their skin, outer pulp, inner pulp, and seeds separated and then analyzed by GC-MS. After the 23rd day, about 70% of the imazalil had dissipated. Most of the remaining residue was found in the skin; however, the small amount migrating into the pulp was above the maximum residue levels allowed by the regulatory agencies. Imazalil residue was also detected in seeds at concentrations lower than the LOQ (0.025 mg kg-1). Mass loss was the only quality parameter that showed a significant difference between the fruits of the control and study groups.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Pesticide residues in animal feed can endanger animal health and compromise the safety of livestock products for human consumption. Even though policymakers such as the European Union and the World Health Organization have established maximum residue levels (MRLs) for pesticides in both human food and animal feed, there is no systematic management of pesticides in animal feed that considers the entire supply chain. In response, we propose a framework for defining consistent MRLs for pesticides in animal feed that assesses the impact of defined MRLs on upstream (e.g., MRLs in feed crops) and downstream (e.g., MRLs in livestock products) sectors of the livestock-product supply chain. RESULTS The MRLs determined for the selected pesticides in the feed of cattle and sheep as case study animals indicate that lipophilic pesticides tend to have lower MRLs than hydrophilic pesticides, primarily due to the relatively high toxicity and biotransfer factors of lipophilic pesticides. In addition, we observe that, primarily for lipophilic pesticides, upstream and downstream regulations are not aligned in terms of defining MRLs in feed using current MRLs in crops with relevance to feed and foods of animal origin. CONCLUSION Some of the current pesticide regulations in the livestock-product supply chain need to be re-evaluated to ensure that MRLs in the upstream sector (i.e., crops) do not result in unacceptable residues in the downstream sector (i.e., MRLs in livestock products affecting animal and human health). Finally, we provide recommendations for optimizing the derivation of MRLs in feed, including the evaluation of residue fate during feed and food manufacturing processes. © 2022 The Authors. Abstract
Persistent organic pollutants, such as polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, are hazardous trace contaminants frequently observed in food ingredients, such as edible oils. This study aimed to measure PAHs in forty brands of edible oils marketed in southwest Iran. Additionally, we characterized the daily intake of MOE and ILCR using Monte Carlo simulation. To analyze the content of PAHs, the liquid-liquid extraction method followed by GC-MS was utilized. The average concentration of PAHs was mostly lower than the maximum value for individual PAH (2 μg/Kg); however, the average concentration of fluorene (3.86 μg/Kg) and benzo(a)anthracene (3.13 μg/Kg) was more than the permitted level. The highest residual concentrations of PAHs were mostly observed in canola and corn oils. The daily intake of BaP and 4-PAH for 95% of consumers was 0.01 ng/kg BW/day and 0.04 ng/kg BW/day, respectively. Also, MOE was more than 10,000 for the percentiles of 5%, 50%, and 95%. The modeled ILCR showed that consumption of oil does not currently pose a cancer risk for Iranian consumers due to PAHs exposure. Concerning potential health risks, consumption of edible oils is safe; however, regular monitoring and assessment are required.

Abstract
A metal-organic framework UiO-66 was prepared and used as a sorbent for dispersive solid-phase extraction combined with high-performance liquid chromatography (DSPE-HPLC) for extracting and determining four pyrethroids in water samples for the first time. The as-synthesized material was confirmed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and N2 adsorption-desorption analysis. In addition, several important parameters affecting DSPE efficiency, including sorbent dosage, extraction time, salt concentration, pH, elution solvent, elution volume, and elution time, were optimized. Under the optimum conditions, the UiO-66 based on the DSPE-HPLC method displayed a wide linear range (10-1000 ng/ml), low limits of detection (2.8-3.5 ng/ml), and good precision (relative standard deviations [RSDs] < 3%) for the four pyrethroids. The recoveries at different spiked levels ranged from 89.3% to 107.7%. In addition, UiO-66 featured good reusability and reproducibility. The results demonstrated that π-π stacking interactions, hydrophobic interactions, and van der Waals forces between UiO-66 and the four pyrethroids played a crucial role in the adsorption process. Meanwhile, the maximum extraction capability could be obtained within 5 min. Thus, the DSPE coupled with the UiO-66 sorbent can be successfully used in the analysis of four pyrethroids in environmental water samples. PRACTITIONER POINTS: Simultaneous determination of four pyrethroids using the developed UiO-66-based DSPE-HPLC method in water samples. The developed method had a short enrichment time, broad linear ranges, a low detection limit, and high enrichment factor. It is showed that π-π stacking interaction, hydrophobic interaction, and van der Waals forces were the main mechanism.

Abstract
Pyrethroid contamination in fish can contribute to the dietary uptake of pesticides. To mitigate this risk, the effects of frozen storage, thermal treatments (boiling and grilling), and non-thermal treatments (pickling and curing) on the reduction of bifenthrin, cypermethrin, deltamethrin, and permethrin in mackerel fillets were investigated. The curing process was the most effective method that significantly depleted 74.82-79.45% of pyrethroid residues from fish fillets, followed by the synergistic effect of eight weeks' frozen storage and grilling method (69.19-78.31%). Moreover, pyrethroid degradation pathways in processed fish were proposed into three major mechanisms of C1-C3 bond cleavage in cyclopropyl, dehalogenation, and double bond cleavage. These identical pathways incorporated with additional four mechanisms of dimerization, ester hydrolysis, oxidation, and reduction. This study recommended simple and effective processing practices for consumers and/or manufacturers to enhance food safety from the potential risks of consuming pyrethroid-contaminated fish.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Pesticide contamination in oil crops and processed products is an important food safety concern. The study was aimed to investigate the pesticide residue changes in press processing of peanut oil and frying of chips. RESULTS Five pesticides - chlorpyrifos, deltamethrin, methoxyfenozide, azoxystrobin and propargite - which are often applied during growth period in peanut plants, were selected to investigate their residue changes in cold press processing of peanut oil and frying of potato chips. Results showed that the residues of the five pesticides were decreased by 3.1-42.6% during air-drying before oil pressing. The residues of chlorpyrifos, deltamethrin, methoxyfenozide and propargite in peanut oil were 2.05-3.63 times higher than that in peanut meal after cold pressing of the oil, except for azoxystrobin having a slightly lower residue in peanut oil, with 0.92 times that in peanut meal. The processing factors of the five pesticides in peanut oil ranged from 1.17 to 2.73 and were highly related to the log Kow of the pesticides. The higher the log Kow , the more easily was the pesticide partitioned in the peanut oil. Besides, as frying time increase during preparation of chips, the concentration of pesticides in peanut oil decreased gradually by 6.7-22.1% compared to the first frying. In addition, 0.47-11.06% of the pesticides were transferred to the chips through frying with contaminated oil. CONCLUSION This is first report showing that pesticides can transfer from contaminated oil to chips. There exists a potential dietary health risk by using pesticide-contaminated oil for frying chips. This work could provide basic data for accurate dietary risk assessment of pesticide residues in peanut oil and its frying products. © 2021 Society of Chemical Industry.

Abstract
This study aimed to investigate the acute and chronic hazard quotients of chlorpyrifos and diazinon for tomatoes in preharvest and postharvest conditions, and to evaluate the relationship between the main variables, including temperature and contact time and pesticide dissipation at different conditions using response surface methodology for the first time. The qualification analyses were conducted by a gas chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry. The Monte Carlo simulation technique was utilized to evaluate the variability and uncertainty and achieve more accurate results in the health risk assessment process. A quadratic model and the second-order polynomial analysis were employed to investigate the mutual effect of time and temperature on removing diazinon and chlorpyrifos. Based on findings, the chronic hazard quotient values of chlorpyrifos and diazinon residues ranged from 0.43 - 1.33 to 0.13 - 2.27 for boiling, 0.65 - 1.49 to 3.05 - 7.15 for room condition, and 0.63 - 1.92 to 3.28 - 7.47 for refrigerator condition, respectively. According to the Monte Carlo simulation, the hazard quotient and estimated daily intake values were more affected by the consumption rate, pesticide concentration, and body weight. The results of response surface methodology showed that the effect of temperature variations on the dissipation of both pesticides was more than that of contact time variations.

Abstract
Esterase, as a type of powerful catabolic enzyme for the degradation of pyrethroid pesticides (PYRs), appears promising in improving the quality of crops and the environment contaminated by pesticide residues. The purpose of this research is to provide a detailed introduction to the enzymatic properties, optimal production and immobilization conditions, and the degradation ability of Est804 for PYRs. The study on enzymatic properties indicated that Est804 was an alkaline esterase with an optimal pH of 8.0 and a broad optimal temperature in the range of 35-50°C. The optimal activity of free Est804 was calculated to be 112.812 U, and the specific enzyme activity was 48.97 U/mg. The kinetic parameters of Est804 were K m = 0.613 mM, k cat = 12,371 s-1, and V m = 0.095 mM/min. The results of the fermentative optimization demonstrated that the optimal conditions included 1.5% of inoculation amount, 30 mL of liquid volume, 28°C of the fermentation temperature, and 18 h of the fermentation time. The optimal medium consists of 15.87 g of yeast powder, 8.00 g of glycerol, and 9.57 g of tryptone in 1 L of liquid. The optimized enzyme activity was 1.68-fold higher than that before optimization. Immobilized Est804 exhibited the highest activity under the optimum preparation conditions, including 0.35 g of chitosan dosage, 0.4 mL of an enzyme, and 4 h at 40°C for adsorption. The degradation rates of Cypermethrin (CYP), fenpropathrin (FE), and lambda-cyhalothrin (LCT) by Est804 within 30 min were 77.35%, 84.73%, and 74.16%, respectively. The present study indicated that Est804 possesses great potential for the treatment of pesticide residues on crops and environmental remediation, conducive to the development of SGNH family esterase against pyrethroid accumulation.

Abstract
A facile and rapid strategy for preparation of covalent organic framework (COF) coated fibers at ambient temperature is urgently needed for solid-phase microextraction (SPME) technology. In this work, an in situ room-temperature rapid growth strategy was developed to high-efficiently fabricate imine-linked COF (TPB-DVA) coated fibers in as little as 30 min at room temperature, and the thickness of the coating reached 9 μm. The prepared TPB-DVA coated fiber offer high thermal and chemical stability, and outstanding service lifetime. Moreover, we generalize this strategy to other two imine-linked COF (TPB-DMTP and TFPB-TAPB) coated fibers and the fibers were fabricated at room temperature for 3 h and 12 h, respectively, which demonstrate the applicability of this strategy. Subsequently, a SPME-GC-MS/MS analytical method was developed for trace pyrethroids (PYs) detection, which exhibited high enhancement factors (EFs, 2700-13195), wide linear range (0.08-800 ng L-1), low limits of detection (LODs, 0.02-0.20 ng L-1), and good repeatability (RSD ≤ 8.5%, n = 6). Furthermore, the developed analytical method was applied to tea samples and trace PYs (1.31-4.32 ng L-1) were found with satisfactory recovery (80.2-119.8%). The above results demonstrated that the feasibility of the developed strategy for the facile and rapid fabrication of imine-linked COF coated fibers.

Abstract
As a biologically inspired insecticide, pyrethroids (PYRs) exert evident toxic side effects on non-target organisms. PYRs and their general toxic intermediate 3-phenoxybenzoic acid (3-PBA) have shown high detection rates/levels in human beings recently, for which diet was identified as the major exposure route. Microbial mineralization has emerged as a versatile strategy in addressing such escalating concern. Herein, PYRs and 3-PBA biodegradation with regards to strain safety, application and surfactant were summarized. Numerous PYRs-degrading microbes have been reported yet with a minority focused on 3-PBA. Most isolates were from contaminated sites while several microbial food cultures (MFCs) have been investigated. MFCs such as Bacillus spp. and Aspergillus spp. that dominate in PYRs-degrading microbial pools are applicable candidates for agricultural by-products detoxification during the postharvest process. Subsequently, we discussed committed degradation steps, wherein hydrolase responsible for PYRs ester linkage cleavage and oxygenase for 3-PBA diphenyl ether bond rupture play vital roles. Finally, comprehensive information of the key enzyme genes is outlined along with methodologies concerning gene cloning. Cytochrome P450 monooxygenases (CYP) is competent for diphenyl ether scission. Newly-developed omics has become a feasible gene and enzyme mining technology. To achieve PYRs mineralization in feed and food commodities, the screening of MFCs rich in related enzymes and the construction of MFCs-derived genetically modified microbes (GMMs) exhibit great potential considering the safety issues.

Abstract
Pyrethroid insecticides are a class of pesticides with multiple agricultural and residential applications. However, widespread use of these chemicals may pose a threat to human health. Biomarkers of pyrethroid exposure are frequently detected in populations around the world, but some groups may be underrepresented. Moreover, there is an ongoing debate on factors contributing to pyrethroid burden in humans. To address these problems, we measured urinary biomarkers of pyrethroid exposure in urine samples from 306 young men living in urban area of Łódź, Poland, and gathered questionnaire data to identify predictors of exposure. Limit of detection (LOD) of gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) method was 0.1 ng/mL for all quantified pyrethroid metabolites, namely cis-3-(2,2-dichlorovinyl)-2,2-dimethylcyclopropane carboxylic acid (cis-DCCA), trans-3-(2,2-dichlorovinyl)-2,2-dimethylcyclopropane carboxylic acid (trans-DCCA), cis-3-(2,2-dibromovinyl)-2,2-dimethylcyclopropane carboxylic acid (cis-DBCA), and 3-phenoxybenzoic acid (3-PBA). Detection rate ranged from 32% (cis-DBCA) to 76% (trans-DCCA). Concentrations of urinary biomarkers in studied sample were in lower range of these observed in similar studies, with unadjusted geometric means (GMs) of most prevalent biomarkers, trans-DCCA and 3-PBA, equal to 0.268 and 0.228 ng/mL, respectively. As for questionnaire data, the statistical analysis revealed that non-dietary factors, especially dog ownership and pesticide use on household pets, contribute significantly to urinary trans-DCCA and 3-PBA concentrations (p ≤ 0.009). Moreover, a few dietary sources of exposure were identified, such as seeds and nuts consumption for 3-PBA (p < 0.001) and vegetable juice intake for trans-DCCA (p = 0.015). Multivariate analyses further highlighted the importance of non-dietary factors in pyrethroid exposure. Compared to other works, our results confirm widespread exposure to pyrethroids observed in other studies and stress the role of residential pyrethroid use in pyrethroid burden in humans.

Abstract
The aim of the conducted study was to characterize the attitudes and practices of Polish farmers in the area of performing chemical plant protection treatments. A particular attention was paid to identifying the relationship between the direction of changes in the volume of chemical plant protection product consumption and selected attributes of farms. The main time range of the analyses covered the period of 2013-2017. Statistical data and results of representative surveys carried out on a sample of 1101 farms in Poland were used in the research process. Due to the large number of variants of the analysed variables, a multiple correspondence analysis was used, which made it possible to determine the correlation between the examined features (direction of changes in pesticide use relative to the farm area, economic size of the farm and location of the farm). Statistical analysis showed the existence of strong relationships between the physical (1) and economic (2) size of farms and the direction of changes in pesticide consumption ((1) φ2 = 0.0907; (2) φ2 = 0.1141)). According to empirical studies, the reduction of pesticide consumption took place mainly on the smallest farms. The implementation of the integrated plant protection directive has not resulted in significant changes in the form of reduced pesticide use in large-scale field crops. This raises the need to modify the strategy and model of crop protection in large-scale field crops in Poland.

Abstract
Production of minor crop varieties often requires intensive pesticide use, which raises serious concerns over food safety and human health. Chaenomeles speciosa (Sweet) Nakai as one of the representative of this kind of crops is therefore used for investigating the residue behavior of fenpropathrin and emamectin benzoate, a synthetic pyrethroid and macrocyclic lactone widely used as an insecticide, respectively, from cultivation to C. speciosa postharvest processing. Results showed that the degradation trends of those selected insecticides in C. speciosa followed first-order kinetics with an average half-life (t1/2) of 3.7-4.1 days and a dissipation rate of 97% over 14 days. The terminal residues of fenpropathrin and emamectin benzoate at 120 and 3 g a.i./ha were below the U.S Environmental Protection Agency (FAD, 1.00 mg/kg) and European Union (EU, 0.01 mg/kg) maximum residue limits (MRLs) in papaya species, respectively, when measured 14 days after the final application, which suggested that the use of these insecticides was safe for humans. Postharvest processing procedure resulted in a |90% reduction of the insecticides. Moreover, the hazard quotient (HQ) for C. speciosa decoction (with processing factors) indicated an acceptable risk for human consumption. These findings provide the scientific evidence of reasonable application and risk assessment of the selected pesticide residues in C. speciosa.

Abstract
Though pesticide mixtures can reflect the real-life situation in the water ecosystem, the quantification of their toxicity is still not fully understood. Combined effects of thiophanate-methyl (THM) and fenvalerate (FEN) on embryonic zebrafish (Danio rerio) and underlying mechanism were conducted in this study. Results showed that the 96-h LC50 values of THM to D. rerio at different growth periods ranged from 12.1 to 26.1 mg L-1, which were lower in comparison with those of FVR ranging from 0.025 to 2.8 mg L-1. Mixture of THM and FVR exhibited a synergetic response to zebrafish embryos. Activities of Cu/Zn-SOD, POD, caspase 3 and caspase 9 were significantly different in most of single and mixture administrations compared with the control group. In addition, five genes (P53, Cu/Zn-sod, crh, ERα and IL-8) associated with oxidative stress, cellular apoptosis, immune system and endocrine system showed greater variations of expressions when administrated to pesticide mixtures compared with single chemicals. Our experimental results exhibited that mixtures of thiophanate-methyl and fenvalerate produced higher toxicity towards aqueous vertebrates than when determined singly. Collectively, upcoming environmental risk assessments established according to single administrations might not be enough to protect the water ecosystem.

Abstract
To examine pesticide mixture toxicity to aqueous organisms, we assessed the single and combined toxicities of thiamethoxam and other four pesticides (chlorpyrifos, beta-cypermethrin, tetraconazole, and azoxystrobin) to the rare minnow (Gobiocypris rarus). Data from 96-h semi-static toxicity assays of various developmental phases (embryonic, larval, juvenile, and adult phases) showed that beta-cypermethrin, chlorpyrifos, and azoxystrobin had the highest toxicities to G. rarus, and their LC50 values ranged from 0.0031 to 0.86 mg a.i. L-1, from 0.016 to 6.38 mg a.i. L-1, and from 0.39 to 1.08 mg a.i. L-1, respectively. Tetraconazole displayed a comparatively high toxicity, and its LC50 values ranged from 3.48 to 16.73 mg a.i. L-1. By contrast, thiamethoxam exhibited the lowest toxic effect with LC50 values ranging from 37.85 to 351.9 mg a.i. L-1. Rare minnow larvae were more sensitive than embryos to all the pesticides tested. Our data showed that a pesticide mixture of thiamethoxam-tetraconazole elicited synergetic toxicity to G. rarus. Moreover, pesticide mixtures containing beta-cypermethrin in combination with chlorpyrifos or tetraconazole also had synergetic toxicities to fish. The majority of pesticides are presumed to have additive toxicity, while our data emphasized that the concurrent existence of some chemicals in the aqueous circumstance could cause synergetic toxic effect, leading to severe loss to the aqueous environments in comparison with their single toxicities. Thence, the synergetic impacts of chemical mixtures should be considered when assessing the ecological risk of chemicals.

Abstract
It is necessary to understand the interactions between different pesticides in ecotoxicology because pesticides never appear as individual compounds but rather in combinations with other compounds. In this study, we planned to explicate the combined toxic effect of myclobutanil (MYC) and thiamethoxam (THI) on the zebrafish (Danio rerio) by adopting multiple biomarkers. Results unraveled that the 96-h LC50 values of MYC to D. rerio at various life phases ranged from 5.2 to 10.3 mg L-1, which were lower than those of THI ranging from 147 to 246 mg L-1. Combinations of MYC and THI exhibited synergetic toxicity to zebrafish embryos. The activities of antioxidative enzymes (T-SOD, Cu/Zn-SOD and POD) and detoxification enzyme (GST) were obviously varied in most of the MYC, THI and combined exposures compared to the control. The mRNA expressions of eight genes (Cu-sod, cas3, il-8, cxcl, erα, crh, cyp17 and dio1) involved in antioxidation, apoptosis, immunity and endocrine were obviously altered in the combined exposure of MYC and THI compared to their individual exposures. Our findings hinted the threats when YMC and THI co-existed, which would be beneficial for the risk assessments of pesticide mixtures.

Abstract
The stereoselective behaviors of triadimefon (TF) and its metabolite triadimenol (TN) during barley storage and beer brewing were studied by supercritical fluid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry to shed light on potential security risks. Matrix-matched calibration curves were constructed for barley and beer, with determination coefficients (r2) ≥ 0.9991. Average recoveries of 77.2-107.5 % and relative standard deviations within 15.0 % were observed. The degradation of the TF enantiomers during storage followed pseudo-first-order kinetics, and S-TF was degraded in preference to R-TF with the half-life ranges 18.5-36.5 d and 20.4-69.3 d, respectively. During beer brewing, the TF enantiomers (enantiomer fraction, 0.44-0.56) were selectively metabolized into TN stereoisomers (diastereomer fraction, 0.43-0.58). The total pesticide content of beer was 93.3 % lower than that of raw grain, whereby the TF content declined by up to 100 % and the TN stereoisomers were reduced by 35.1 %. The processing factors of all the brewing steps were less than one, illustrating that beer consumption is safer after its commercial processing. Furthermore, the TF enantiomers showed different behaviors upon fermentation by two yeast strains. Thus, this work is a useful reference for assessing the food safety risk posed by individual pesticide enantiomers and their contribution to environmental pollution.

Abstract
The aim of this study was to evaluate the potential of entomopathogenic fungi (EPF) for the control of aphid pests of field vegetable crops. Four biopesticides based on the EPF Beauveria bassiana (Botanigard ES and Naturalis L), Cordyceps fumosorosea s.l. (Preferal WG), and Akanthomyces dipterigenus (Vertalec) were evaluated in a laboratory bioassay against peach-potato aphid Myzus persicae, cabbage aphid Brevicoryne brassicae, and currant-lettuce aphid Nasonoviaribisnigri. There was significant variation in the spore dose provided by the products, with Botanigard ES producing the highest dose (639 viable spores per mm2). Botanigard ES also caused more mortality than the other products. Combining Vertalec with the vegetable oil-based adjuvant Addit had an additive effect on the mortality of B.brassicae. All fungal products reduced the number of progeny produced by M. persicae but there was no effect with B. brassicae or N. ribisnigri. When aphid nymphs were treated with Botanigard ES and Preferal WG, both products reduced population development, with up to 86% reduction occurring for Botanigard ES against M. persicae. In a field experiment, Botanigard ES sprayed twice, at seven-day intervals, against B. brassicae on cabbage plants, reduced aphid numbers by 73%. In a second field experiment with B. brassicae, M. persicae, and N. ribisnigri, Botanigard ES reduced populations of B. brassicae and N. ribisnigri but there was no significant effect on M. persicae.

Abstract
Pyrethroid residues in food and the environment can be bio-transformed into 3-phenoxybenzoic acid (3-PBA); It is more toxic than the parent compounds, and has been detected in milk, soil, and human urine. In this study, when incubated at 30 °C and 180 rpm for 48 h, mycelial pellets during logarithmic growth phase were obtained and washed 2 times by phosphate buffer. The cell debris solutions and filter liquor from inducible and non-inducible samples were cultured with 3-PBA and its intermediate metabolites at same condition, and the location and induction of enzymes were analyzed by the degradation. Then Cytochrome P450 (CYP450), lignin peroxidase (LiP), laccase, manganese peroxidase (MnP), and dioxygenase were selected as candidate enzymes due to these oxidases existing in the fungi and capable of degrading the contaminants with similar structures of these compounds, and CuSO4, NaN3, AgNO3, EDTA or piperonyl butoxide (PBO) were used as the enzymes inhibitors and inducers. The degradation of 3-PBA and its intermediate metabolites and the fungal biomass in presence of enzymes inhibitors and inducers was arranged to analyze the possible degrading-enzymes, and the co-metabolic enzymes and pathways can be reasoned. This study provided a promising method for studying the co-metabolic enzymes of 3-PBA degradation by fungi. The presented MethodsX was conducted for co-metabolic enzymes and pathways of 3-PBA degradation. The culturing condition for presenting enzyme properties were investigated. The candidate enzymes were analyzing based on location, induction of enzymes, fungal enzyme systems and chemical structures of these compounds.

Abstract
Effects of cooking modes on the real intake and chronic exposure risk of pesticide residues in vegetables are usually neglected and largely unknown. Four modes of daily meal preparation; chafing dish, soup, salad and stir-frying were studied in this work to clarify their impact on the residual pesticides in foods. A detection method for 14 types of pesticide residues in different cuisines was developed. In this work, chronic exposure risks of four pesticides were analysed by probabilistic assessment based on data from public health and a pesticide residues investigation conducted. The results showed that chafing dish and soup methods greatly lowered the types, contents and exposure risks from residue pesticides. Salad preserved almost all the pesticide residues, and the risks were also relatively high in the stir-frying method. In chafing dish and soup, pesticide residues were dispersed in the media and posed quite low threats to humans. Considering the age, infants and children were at a higher risk of exposure than other populations. Reassuringly, all of the risks were at acceptable levels. This study clarified how the cooking modes affect chronic exposure risks to pesticide residues in the vegetables. The outcomes also show the effects of cooking method on healthy daily diets.
