Abstract
Campylobacter jejuni represents one of the leading causes of bacterial gastroenteritis in humans and is primarily linked to chicken meat contamination. In the present study, we analyzed the virulence and survival genes, antimicrobial resistance, and the clonal distribution of 50 C. jejuni isolates obtained from various sources in 14 chicken slaughterhouses across 8 provinces in South Korea from 2019 to 2022. Furthermore, we determined their genetic relatedness to human-derived isolates registered in PubMLST using multilocus sequence typing (MLST). All isolates harbored various virulence and survival genes (flhA, cadF, cdtA, cdtC, cmeA, and sodB) out of 17 tested genes, as confirmed via polymerase chain reaction analysis. Adherence factor gene virB11 was not detected in any isolate. All isolates harbored 12 or more virulence and survival genes. Antimicrobial susceptibility testing indicated that ciprofloxacin resistance was the most prevalent (84.0%), followed by nalidixic acid (82.0%) and tetracycline (52.0%) resistance. MLST analysis of the isolates revealed 18 sequence types (STs), including four new ones. Overlapping STs between chicken slaughterhouse and human-derived isolates included ST42, ST45, ST50, ST137, ST354, and ST464. Our study identified 11 clonal complexes (CCs), with CC-21 being the most prevalent in both human and chicken slaughterhouse-derived isolates. This study provides comprehensive insights into recent C. jejuni isolates from chicken slaughterhouses, including data on quinolone resistance and virulence factors. The MLST-based genetic relatedness between isolates from humans and chicken slaughterhouses in this study suggests the potential of C. jejuni transmission from chickens to humans through the food chain. This study suggests the need for improved management practices in chicken slaughterhouses to reduce the transmission of chicken slaughterhouse-derived C. jejuni to humans.

Abstract
Campylobacter spp. represents one of the most frequently incriminated pathogens in the evolution of foodborne gastroenteritis in humans worldwide. Alongside Salmonella spp., Yersinia spp., Escherichia coli, and Listeria monocytogenes, these pathogens represent a principal threat to public health because they are vehiculated to humans via food products and many of them have developed alarming resistance to different classes of antimicrobials. Thus, the present study aimed to provide scientifically relevant data on the public health risk represented by Campylobacter spp., contamination of chicken carcasses at the slaughterhouse and retail levels, and the antimicrobial resistance of the isolated strains. A total of 130 samples collected from slaughterhouses (n = 40) and retail stores (n = 90) were analyzed using standardized microbiological methods (ISO 10272-1:2017). Of these, the overall prevalence of Campylobacter spp. was 27.7%, with a prevalence at the slaughterhouse level of 32.5% and at the retail level of 25.5%. Following antimicrobial resistance profile determinations using the Kirby-Bauer disc diffusion assay, the isolated strains showed resistance to the following antimicrobials in descending order: ciprofloxacin (41.6%), tetracycline (25.0%), chloramphenicol (16.6%), gentamicin (11.1%), ertapenem (5.6%), and erythromycin (2.8%). The study results confirm that chicken meat may pose a threat to public health and, moreover, that due to the widespread use of antimicrobials, a large number of strains have developed antimicrobial resistance, leading to difficulties in the treatment of various foodborne diseases.

Abstract
Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a global health challenge requiring cross-sector action, with research largely focused on chickens, leaving ducks underexplored. This study examines AMR dynamics in Ross 308 broilers and Cherry Valley ducks over 15 months and 15 stocking periods under consistent rearing conditions. A total of 96 pooled samples were collected: 50 from broiler farms (26 biological, 24 environmental) and 46 from duck farms (24 biological, 22 environmental). Using next-generation shotgun sequencing, 3,665 distinct AMR types were identified: 1,918 in broilers and 1,747 in ducks. Host-specific AMRs comprised 25.3% in broilers and 18% in ducks, while 56.7% were shared. AMR diversity declined across production phases, with broilers losing 641 types and ducks losing 308, yet AMR frequencies increased significantly by the finisher phase (p < 0.0001). Based on in silico data, prophylactic antibiotic use significantly reduced the prevalence of multidrug-resistant bacteria in both poultry species (p < 0.05). Hospital-acquired infection-associated AMRs were higher in broilers than in ducks at the start of production but declined significantly by the end of the rearing period (p < 0.0001). Above-average resistance markers accounted for approximately 10% of all detected resistance determinants. Tetracycline and phenicol resistances emerged as the most prevalent. 13 high-resistance carrier (HRC) species were shared between both hosts. Broiler-specific HRCs exhibited significantly higher abundances (relative frequency: 0.08) than duck-specific HRCs (relative frequency: 0.003, p = 0.035). The grower phase emerged as a critical intervention point. In farm environments 15 broiler-specific and 9 duck-specific biomarker species were identified, each strongly correlated with poultry-core HRCs (correlation coefficient > 0.7). Broiler exhibited higher abundances of key resistance genes, with tetracycline resistance predominantly associated with Bacteroides coprosuis, Pasteurella multocida, and Acinetobacter baumannii. Despite its limitations, this research provides key insights into AMR trends in two major poultry types, guiding targeted interventions and sustainable management strategies.

Abstract
The rapid emergence of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in Campylobacter has reinforced its status as a foodborne pathogen of significant public health concern. Resistant Campylobacter is typically transferred to humans via the consumption of contaminated animal products, particularly poultry. The genes associated with antimicrobial resistance in Campylobacter spp. are poorly understood. To address this knowledge gap, we conducted a prevalence survey of AMR Campylobacter across 84 chicken farms in two districts of Bangladesh. Pooled cloacal swabs were collected from chickens and underwent bacteriological testing for Campylobacter spp. with PCR confirmation. Antimicrobial susceptibility was tested against 14 antibiotics by disk diffusion method, and 12 resistance genes were screened in Campylobacter-positive isolates using multiplex PCR. A total of 34 (40.5%) farms were Campylobacter-positive of which 73.5% of isolates were resistant to at least 10 antibiotics. The antimicrobial susceptibility results indicate a high level of resistance against streptomycin (97.1%), clindamycin (97.1%), ampicillin (94.1%), tetracycline (94.1%), erythromycin (91.2%), ciprofloxacin (88.2%), nalidixic acid (85.3%), and imipenem (82.4%), and comparatively a low frequency of resistance to chloramphenicol (47.1%), ceftazidime (44.1%), and colistin (35.3%). Multidrug-resistant (MDR) and extensively drug-resistant Campylobacter were identified in 97.1%, and 50% of isolates, respectively. Ten resistance genes were identified including blaTEM (in 97.1% of isolates), strA-strB (85.9%), tetA (70.6%), tetB (32.4%), qnrS (23.5%), blaCTX-M-1 (20.6%), qnrB (20.6%), blaSHV (8.8%), aadB (5.9%), and qnrA (2.9%). Our findings demonstrate that resistance to ampicillin, tetracycline, and ceftazidime in Campylobacter isolates was significantly (p ≤ 0.05) associated with the presence of blaTEM, tetA, and blaSHV genes, respectively. The high rates of AMR in Campylobacter isolates from our study are not surprising given the liberal use of antimicrobials and incomplete biosecurity provisions on farms. Of particular concern are resistance rates to those classes of antibiotics that should be reserved for human use (azithromycin, ciprofloxacin, and colistin). AMR was more prevalent in chicken farms that used multiple antibiotics, engaged in prophylactic treatment of the birds, and improperly disposed of antibiotic packages. The high prevalence of MDR in chicken-derived Campylobacter isolates from the different regions of our study reinforces the need for more prudent use of antimicrobial compounds in Bangladeshi chicken farms.

Abstract
Campylobacter is highly associated with poultry and frequently causes foodborne illness worldwide. Thus, effective control measures are necessary to reduce or prevent human infections. In this review, Campylobacter control methods applicable at postharvest level for poultry meat during production, storage, and preparation are discussed. Drying and temperature are discussed as general strategies. Traditional strategies such as steaming, freezing, sanitizing, organic acid treatment, and ultraviolet light treatment are also discussed. Recent advances in nanotechnology using antibacterial nanoparticles and natural antimicrobial agents from plants and food byproducts are also discussed. Although advances have been made and there are various methods for preventing Campylobacter contamination, it is still challenging to prevent Campylobacter contamination in raw poultry meats with current methods. In addition, some studies have shown that large strain-to-strain variation in susceptibility to these methods exists. Therefore, more effective methods or approaches need to be developed to substantially reduce human infections caused by Campylobacter.

Abstract
This study investigated the prevalence and associated risk factors of Campylobacter in South Korean broilers using a random-effects meta-analysis. Subsequently, to facilitate the design of preventive measures, the prevalence estimate from the meta-analysis was incorporated into a stochastic risk assessment model to quantify the Campylobacter contamination levels on broiler carcasses. The baseline model was developed based on the most common practices along the South Korean broiler processing line, with no interventions. Meta-analysis results revealed Campylobacter prevalence across the chicken supply chain in the following order: farms (60.6 % [57.3-63.4]), retail markets (43.90 % [24.81-64.99]), slaughterhouses (27.71 % [18.56-39.21]), and processing plants (14.50 % [3.96-41.09]). The model estimated a 52 % (36.1-70.8) Campylobacter prevalence at the end of chilling, with an average contamination level of 4.62 (2.50-6.74) log CFU/carcass. Sensitivity analysis indicated that Campylobacter fecal shedding (r = 0.95) and the amount of feces on bird exteriors (r = 0.17) at pre-harvest were the main factors for carcass contamination, while soft scalding (r = -0.22) and air chilling (r = -0.12) can serve as critical control points (CCPs) at harvest. Scenario analysis indicated that a combination of hard scalding, inside-outside bird washing, spray washing, and chlorinated water immersion chilling can offer a 30.9 % reduction in prevalence and a reduction of 2.23 log CFU/carcass in contamination levels compared to the baseline model. Apart from disinfection and sanitation interventions carried out during meat processing, the implementation of robust control measures is indispensable to mitigate Campylobacter prevalence and concentration at broiler farms, thereby enhancing meat safety and public health. Furthermore, given the high Campylobacter prevalence in the retail markets, future studies should explore the potential risk of cross-contamination at post-harvest stage.

Abstract
This study aimed to characterize the latest antimicrobial resistance patterns and genetic diversity of Campylobacter spp. isolated from patients with acute diarrhea in Korea. In total, 371 clinical isolates (361 Campylobacter jejuni and 10 Campylobacter coli) were collected from patients with diarrhea in 106 medical institutions of six provinces during the seasonal peak (April-September 2022) in South Korea. We then assessed their antimicrobial susceptibility to eight antimicrobial agents and performed multilocus sequence typing (MLST). This study investigated the antimicrobial resistance (AMR) profiles to tetracycline (32.3%), nalidixic acid (64.9%), and ciprofloxacin (83.3%), confirming high levels of the latter even after its Korean ban in 2010. However, tetracycline resistance displayed a decreasing trend. Alternatively, significantly lower resistance rates to clindamycin (0.8%), azithromycin (0.53%), erythromycin (0.53%), and gentamicin (0.53%) as well as absolute susceptibility to florfenicol (0%) were observed. Four C. jejuni and three C. coli isolates (7/371, 1.88%) were classified as multidrug-resistant (MDR) to at least three antimicrobial classes. MLST identified a high genetic diversity with 21 clonal complexes (CCs) and sixty-six sequence types (STs), including eight novel STs. The high CC frequency of C. jejuni comprised CC21 (37.7%), CC22 (13.8%), and CC206 (9.4%), while C. coli was predominated by CC828 (90%). The high CC21 and CC828 strain prevalence in this study was consistent with their worldwide distribution. This study highlights that quinolone- and tetracycline-resistant Campylobacter circulate in Korea with diverse genotypes, providing important information that could contribute to controlling and preventing increasing antimicrobial resistance in patients.

Abstract
Campylobacter spp. constitute a significant global threat as a leading cause of foodborne illnesses, with poultry meat as a prominent reservoir for these pathogens. South Korea is known for its diverse poultry consumption habits, and continuous outbreaks make it a matter of concern to perform a meta-analysis to identify the primary source of contamination. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to assess and compare the prevalence of Campylobacter in various poultry and meat types while also considering the importance of environmental factors in South Korea. The meta-analysis revealed that duck meat exhibited the highest prevalence of Campylobacter, with a pooled estimate of 70.46% (95% CI: 42.80% to 88.38%), followed by chicken meat at a pooled prevalence of 36.17% (95% CI: 26.44% to 47.91%). Additionally, our analysis highlighted the predominance of C. jejuni and C. coli in South Korea. These findings underscore the importance of implementing rigorous food safety measures and establishing robust surveillance programs in the poultry industry to mitigate the risk of Campylobacter-related foodborne illnesses associated with meat consumption in South Korea.

Abstract
Avian campylobacteriosis is a vandal infection that poses human health hazards. Campylobacter is usually colonized in the avian gut revealing mild signs in the infected birds, but retail chicken carcasses have high contamination levels of Campylobacter spp. Consequently, the contaminated avian products constitute the main source of human infection with campylobacteriosis and result in severe clinical symptoms such as diarrhea, abdominal pain, spasm, and deaths in sensitive cases. Thus, the current review aims to shed light on the prevalence of Campylobacter in broiler chickens, Campylobacter colonization, bird immunity against Campylobacter, sources of poultry infection, antibiotic resistance, poultry meat contamination, human health hazard, and the use of standard antimicrobial technology during the chicken processing of possible control strategies to overcome such problems.

Abstract
Simple Summary Campylobacter species are the leading cause of foodborne bacterial enteritis worldwide. Recently, extensively drug-resistant (XDR) and multi-drug-resistant (MDR) Campylobacter spp. have caused several global crises. Therefore, the present work aims to detect the prevalence and antimicrobial resistance patterns of Campylobacter spp. from various chicken sources in Egypt, and to investigate the efficacy of a mixture of eugenol and trans-cinnamaldehyde on the performance and immunity of challenged broilers and also to assess their effects on C. jejuni load and virulence gene expression in an in vivo model. Our results showed a high prevalence of campylobacter isolates (67.3%). Of note, 25.7 and 74.3% of campylobacter isolates were XDR and MDR, respectively. Interestingly, a mixture of eugenol and trans-cinnamaldehyde had significant enhancing and antimicrobial effects through improving the growth-performance variables, minimizing the C. jejuni fecal loads, and decreasing the C. jejuni virulence genes (flaA, virB11, and wlaN) expressions in broilers challenged with C. jejuni. Moreover, the mixture of eugenol and the trans-cinnamaldehyde had immunostimulant and anti-inflammatory activities. In conclusion, our findings suggest that the utilization of the mixture of eugenol and trans-cinnamaldehyde has a growth-promoting role and can be considered as a better replacement of the antimicrobial agents for the control and treatment of campylobacter infection in broiler chickens. Abstract Campylobacter species (spp.) are one of the most important causes of human bacterial gastroenteritis in foods of animal origin. Recently, with the spread of multi-drug-resistant (MDR) and extensively drug-resistant (XDR) Campylobacter spp., natural alternative therapeutic methods are urgently required. Phytogenic active principles have gained considerable attention due to their proficiency to enhance gut health and, thereby, performance of broiler chickens. Thus, the current study aims to determine the prevalence and antimicrobial resistance of Campylobacter spp. of different chicken sources in Sharkia Governorate, Egypt, and to assess the growth-promoting, immunostimulant and antimicrobial effects of a mixture of eugenol and trans-cinnamaldehyde in an in vivo approach. A total of 101 (67.3%) campylobacter isolates was identified, according to both phenotypic and genotypic techniques. Moreover, all of the campylobacter isolates were resistant to erythromycin, trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole, and ampicillin (100% each). Of note, a dietary supplementation of the mixture of eugenol and trans-cinnamaldehyde led to a significant improvement of the feed conversion ratio and body weight gain and a decrease in the cecal C. jejuni loads in the broilers challenged with XDR C. jejuni. Additionally, eugenol and the trans-cinnamaldehyde mixture had protective activities via the down-regulation of XDR C. jejuni (flaA, virB11 and wlaN) virulence genes and proinflammatory cytokines (TNF-α, IL-2, IL-6, and IL-8), and the up-regulation of anti-inflammatory cytokine IL-10. Thus, we recommend the usage of a mixture of eugenol and trans-cinnamaldehyde as an alternative to antimicrobials for the control and treatment of campylobacter infections.

Abstract
A total of 1,400 samples of food animals (pigs, chickens, and ducks) were collected between July and September 2019 in China to uncover the prevalence of E. fergusonii and its potential role in the evolution of antimicrobial resistance (AMR). An isolation of E. fergusonii was performed and pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE) was used to uncover the genetic relationship. The AMR of E. fergusonii isolates was comprehensively characterized using broth microdilution-based antimicrobial susceptibility testing, S1-PFGE, southern hybridization, whole-genome sequencing, and in-depth bioinformatics analysis. As a result, a total of 133 E. fergusonii isolates were obtained. These isolates could be grouped into 41 PFGE subclades, suggesting a diverse genetic relationship. The resistance phenotypes of sulfafurazole (97.74%) and tetracycline (94.74%) were the most frequently found. Of the E. fergusonii isolates, 51.88% were extended spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL)-positive. Forty-three different AMR genes were revealed based on 25 genome sequences harboring mcr-1. Briefly, aph(6)-Id, aph(3'')-Ib and tet(A) genes were the most frequently observed, with the highest rate being 76.00% (19/25). Three mcr-1-harboring plasmids were identified after Nanopore sequencing, including pTB31P1 (IncHI2-IncHI2A, 184,652 bp), pTB44P3 (IncI2, 62,882 bp), and pTB91P1 (IncHI2-IncHI2A, 255,882 bp). Additionally, 25 E. fergusonii isolates harboring mcr-1 were clustered together with other E. fergusonii isolates from different regions and sources available in GenBank, suggesting a possible random process of mcr-1 transmission in E. fergusonii. In conclusion, E. fergusonii is widespread in food animals in China and might be an important reservoir of AMR genes, especially mcr-1, and facilitate the evolution of AMR. IMPORTANCEE. fergusonii, a member of the genus Escherichia, has been reported to transmit via the food chain and cause diseases in humans. However, the prevalence of multidrug-resistant E. fergusonii, especially mcr-1-positive E. fergusonii isolates, has rarely been reported. Here, we collected 1,400 samples from food animals in three provinces of China and obtained 133 E. fergusonii isolates (9.5%). We found that the prevalence of E. fergusonii isolates was diverse, with high levels of antimicrobial resistance. Among them, 18.8% E. fergusonii isolates carried the colistin resistance gene mcr-1. Thus, E. fergusonii may facilitate the evolution of colistin resistance as a reservoir of mcr-1. As far as we know, the prevalence and AMR of E. fergusonii in the food animals in this study was first reported in China. These findings increase our understanding of the role of E. fergusonii in public health and the evolution of antibiotic resistance.

Abstract
In recent times, resistant foodborne pathogens, especially of the Campylobacter species, have created several global crises. These crises have been compounded due to the evolution of multidrug-resistant (MDR) bacterial pathogens and the emergence of extensively drug-resistant (XDR) and pan-drug-resistant (PDR) strains. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the development of resistance and the existence of both XDR and PDR among Campylobacter isolates. Moreover, we explored the use of the polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) technique for the detection of fluoroquinolone (FQ)-resistant Campylobacter isolates. A total of 120 Campylobacter isolates were identified depending on both phenotypic and genotypic methods. Of note, cefoxitin and imipenem were the most effective drugs against the investigated Campylobacter isolates. Interestingly, the majority of our isolates (75%) were MDR. Unfortunately, both XDR and PDR isolates were detected in our study with prevalence rates of 20.8% and 4.2%, respectively. All FQ-resistant isolates with ciprofloxacin minimum inhibitory concentrations ≥4 µg/mL were confirmed by the genetic detection of gyrA chromosomal mutation via substitution of threonine at position 86 to isoleucine (Thr-86-to-Ile) using the PCR-RFLP technique. Herein, PCR-RFLP was a more practical and less expensive method used for the detection of FQ resistant isolates. In conclusion, we introduced a fast genetic method for the identification of FQ-resistant isolates to avoid treatment failure through the proper description of antimicrobials.

Abstract
The Indian poultry industry is one of the fast-growing sectors of which duck farming plays an important role. Duck population in India is 33.51 million that is concentrated towards north-east and southern parts of the country who rears mainly for eggs and meat. Duck diseases are of great concern as they badly affect the financial status of the small, landless farmers. Databases such as Google Scholar, PubMed, J gate were used to search articles between 2000 and 2019 that showed the prevalence of viral, bacterial, and parasitic duck diseases. R open source software was used to derive forest plots by statistical analysis. Pooled prevalence estimates of duck diseases worldwide was found to be 20% (95%-CI:15-26). Also, continent-wise analysis of all duck diseases has revealed highest prevalence in North America, followed by Asia, Africa, Europe,Oceania and South America. This prevalence of data would be helpful to the policymakers to develop appropriate intervention strategies to prevent and control diseases in their respective locations.

Abstract
Rapid identification of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) profiles and mechanisms is critical for clinical management and drug development. However, the current AMR detection approaches take up to 48 h to obtain a result. Here, we demonstrate a Raman spectroscopy-based metabolomic approach to rapidly determine the AMR profile of Campylobacter jejuni, a major cause of foodborne gastroenteritis worldwide. C. jejuni isolates with susceptible and resistant traits to ampicillin and tetracycline were subjected to different antibiotic concentrations for 5 h, followed by Raman spectral collection and chemometric analysis (i.e., second-derivative transformation analysis, hierarchical clustering analysis [HCA], and principal-component analysis [PCA]). The MICs obtained by Raman-2nd derivative transformation agreed with the reference agar dilution method for all isolates. The AMR profile of C. jejuni was accurately classified by Raman-HCA after treating bacteria with antibiotics at clinical susceptible and resistant breakpoints. According to PCA loading plots, susceptible and resistant strains showed different Raman metabolomic patterns for antibiotics. Ampicillin-resistant isolates had distinctive Raman signatures of peptidoglycan, which is related to cell wall synthesis. The ratio of saturated to unsaturated fatty acids in the lipid membrane layer of ampicillin-resistant isolates was higher than in susceptible ones, indicating more rigid envelope structure under ampicillin treatment. In comparison, tetracycline-resistant isolates exhibited prominent Raman spectral features associated with proteins and nucleic acids, demonstrating more active protein synthesis than susceptible strains with the presence of tetracycline. Taken together, Raman spectroscopy is a powerful metabolic fingerprinting technique for simultaneously revealing the AMR profiles and mechanisms of foodborne pathogens. IMPORTANCE Metabolism plays the central role in bacteria to mediate the early response against antibiotics and demonstrate antimicrobial resistance (AMR). Understanding the whole-cell metabolite profiles gives rise to a more complete AMR mechanism insight. In this study, we have applied Raman spectroscopy and chemometrics to achieve a rapid, accurate, and easy-to-operate investigation of bacterial AMR profiles and mechanisms. Raman spectroscopy reduced the analysis time by an order of magnitude to obtain the same results achieved through traditional culture-based antimicrobial susceptibility approaches. It offers great benefits as a high-throughput screening method in food chain surveillance and clinical diagnostics. Meanwhile, the AMR mechanisms toward two representative antibiotic classes, namely, ampicillin and tetracycline, were revealed by Raman spectroscopy at the metabolome level. This approach is based on bacterial phenotypic responses to antibiotics, providing information complementary to that obtained by conventional genetic methods such as genome sequencing. The knowledge obtained from Raman metabolomic data can be used in drug discovery and pathogen intervention.

The worldwide trend of Campylobacter spp., infection from duck-related isolates and associated phenotypic and genotypic antibiotic resistance, since 1985: identifying opportunities and challenges for prevention and control. Abstract
Campylobacter, a leading cause of foodborne diseases, is well recognized worldwide. Poultry and poultry products are considered as major sites for Campylobacter infection in humans. The extensive uses of antibiotics mostly as growth promoters and for therapeutic purposes have led to the emergence of antibiotic-resistant strains of foodborne pathogens including Campylobacter. A key tenet of this paper is the need for reviewing the previous studies conducted around the globe on the prevalence and antimicrobial resistance of Campylobacter spp. isolates in duck to better understand the sources and trends of infection. Based on published data, the prevalence of Campylobacter spp. in duck and duck-related samples ranged from 0% to 100% and was largely influenced by the isolation method. Among Campylobacter spp., C. jejuni was the predominant cause of campylobacteriosis, followed by C. coli. Campylobacter spp. from ducks were mostly resistant to fluoroquinolones and tetracycline and a lesser extent to gentamicin, chloramphenicol, and erythromycin. Some studies showed that ducks may pose a risk for acquiring campylobacteriosis because they had genotypes quite similar to human isolates detected previously. A continued monitoring approach is needed, at national and international levels, with enhanced surveillance and reporting of trends, as well as harmonization of surveillance systems toward a one-health approach to monitoring antimicrobial resistance in animal production particularly if increased resistance rates are being demonstrated.

Abstract
This study was performed to examine whether the use of nitrogen-doped carbon nanodots (N-CNDs) can improve the detection sensitivity of the 3 M™ molecular detection system (MDS) for Campylobacter. N-CNDs were added to a Campylobacter enrichment broth (CEB) at concentrations of 5 and 10 mg/mL (NCEB-5 and NCEB-10, respectively). Campylobacter coli, C. jejuni, and C. lari were inoculated into the broths. The broth cultures were then irradiated with light-emitting diode (LED) at 425 nm for 1 h and incubated at 42 °C for 6 h, and then grown on modified charcoal cefoperazone deoxycholate agar (mCCDA). The detection rates of the MDS and a conventional method (plating an enriched sample on mCCDA and analyzing a colony on mCCDA with PCR) for Campylobacter in chicken and duck carcasses were compared. The detection rates from the MDS were compared after enrichment in CEB and NCEB-5 at 3, 5, 6, 7, 9, 12, and 24 h. When 5 mg/mL of N-CNDs was added to the CEB followed by irradiation at 425 nm, growth of the Campylobacter was accelerated. In addition, the qualitative test was more sensitive in the MDS than in the conventional method, and the detection time was shortened in CEB enriched with N-CNDs. These results indicate that adding N-CNDs to CEB can improve the detection efficiency of MDS.

Abstract
The aim of this study was to analyze the prevalence, antimicrobial resistance, and genetic diversity of Campylobacter isolates that were obtained from whole chicken production stages in Korea. A total of 1348 samples were collected from 10 production lines. The prevalence of Campylobacter in breeder farm, broiler farm, slaughterhouse, and retail meat products was 50.0%, 3.3%, 13.4%, and 68.4%, respectively, and Campylobacter was not detected at the hatchery stage. Resistance to quinolones/fluoroquinolones was the most prevalent at all stages. Among the multidrug-resistant isolates, 16 isolates (19.8%) from breeder farm were resistant to both azithromycin and ciprofloxacin. A total of 182 isolates were subdivided into 82 pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE) genotypes with 100% similarity. Diverse genotypes were presented with discontinuous patterns along the whole production chain. Thirty percent of Campylobacter-free flocks became positive after slaughtering. An identical genotype was simultaneously detected from both breeder farm and retail meat, even from different production lines. This study reveals that antimicrobial-resistant Campylobacter contamination can occur at all stages of the chicken supply chain. In particular, the breeder farm and slaughterhouse should be the main control points, as they are the potential stages at which antimicrobial-resistant Campylobacter could spread to retail meat products by horizontal transmission.

Abstract
Campylobacter jejuni is the leading cause of foodborne bacterial gastroenteritis in humans worldwide. Contaminated chickens and their products are the main sources of human campylobacteriosis. Therefore, this study aimed to detect the genotypic and virulence genes' profiles of multi-drug resistant (MDR) C. jejuni isolates and to assess the effects of sub-inhibitory concentrations (SICs) of eugenol and beta-resorcylic acid on the virulence of avian MDR C. jejuni isolates. These isolates were clustered together with the human isolates via enterobacterial repetitive intergenic consensus-PCR (ERIC-PCR) fingerprinting. A total of 345 samples were collected from human stool (100) and different chicken (245) samples in Sharkia Governorate, Egypt. Conventional phenotypic methods identified 113 isolates (32.8%) as C. jejuni, and all C. jejuni isolates were MDR and resistant to erythromycin and ampicillin. The genes virB11, wlaN, and flaA were detected in 52%, 36% and 100% strains, respectively. ERIC-PCR yielded 14 profiles and five main clusters. Interestingly, human and chicken C. jejuni isolates were clustered together in ERIC-PCR clusters II-V, which confirmed the genetic relatedness between the isolates from both origins. Beta-resorcylic acid and eugenol inhibited the invasion of C. jejuni isolates to chicken intestinal cells by 41.66-38.19% and 31.94-29.16%, respectively, and minimized the transcription of flaA, virB11, and wlaN genes in the tested isolates by real-time quantitative reverse transcription PCR (qRT-PCR). In essence, eugenol and beta-resorcylic acid are promising natural antimicrobials for minimizing the virulence of MDR C. jejuni in chickens, thereby managing human campylobacteriosis.

Abstract
ABSTRACT Antimicrobial-resistant bacteria in poultry meat pose a threat to public health. This article is the first to report the prevalence of antimicrobial-resistant Escherichia coli in retail poultry meat labeled with various claims of antibiotic use in Korea. A total of 719 E. coli strains were isolated from 1,107 raw poultry (chicken and duck) meat samples purchased from nationwide retail stores between 2017 and 2019. All strains were tested for antimicrobial susceptibility with a broth microdilution method. The prevalence of antimicrobial-resistant E. coli in chicken was significantly higher than that in duck for almost all antibiotics tested, and 87.9% of E. coli strains in chicken samples were multidrug resistant. The most prevalent types of antimicrobial resistance in these E. coli strains from poultry meat were to nalidixic acid (75.7%), ampicillin (69.1%), and tetracycline (64.0%), consistent with national sales data for veterinary antibiotics in the Korean poultry production industry. Organic or antibiotic-free and conventional chicken products were equally likely to be contaminated with antimicrobial-resistant E. coli. Contamination may occur during slaughtering and subsequent processing, and antibiotic use is permitted in certain cases under organic or antibiotic-free poultry standards. Therefore, close surveillance is required throughout the chicken production chain to prevent the spread of antimicrobial-resistant E. coli strains. HIGHLIGHTS

Abstract
Campylobacter species are among the major bacteria implicated in human gastrointestinal infections and are majorly found in faeces of domestic animals, sewage discharges and agricultural runoff. These pathogens have been implicated in diseases outbreaks through consumption of contaminated milk and water in some parts of the globe and reports on this is very scanty in the Eastern Cape Province. Hence, this study evaluated the occurrence as well as virulence and antimicrobial-associated makers of Campylobacter species recovered from milk and water samples. A total of 56 water samples and 72 raw milk samples were collected and the samples were processed for enrichment in Bolton broth and incubated for 48 h in 10% CO2 at 42 °C under microaerobic condition. Thereafter, the enriched cultures were further processed and purified. After which, presumptive Campylobacter colonies were isolated and later confirmed by PCR using specific primers for the detection of the genus Campylobacter, target species and virulence associated genes. Antimicrobial resistance profiles of the isolates were determined by disk diffusion method against a panel of 12 antibiotics and relevant genotypic resistance genes were assessed by PCR assay. A total of 438 presumptive Campylobacter isolates were obtained; from which, 162 were identified as belonging to the genus Campylobacter of which 36.92% were obtained from water samples and 37.11% from milk samples. The 162 confirmed isolates were further delineated into four species, of which, 7.41%, 27.16% and 8.64% were identified as C. fetus, C. jejuni and C. coli respectively. Among the virulence genes screened for, the iam (32.88%) was most prevalent, followed by flgR (26.87%) gene and cdtB and cadF (5.71% each) genes. Of the 12 antibiotics tested, the highest phenotypic resistance displayed by Campylobacter isolates was against clindamycin (95.68%), while the lowest was observed against imipenem (21.47%). Other high phenotypic resistance displayed by the isolates were against erythromycin (95.06%), followed by ceftriaxone (93.21%), doxycycline (87.65%), azithromycin and ampicillin (87.04% each), tetracycline (83.33%), chloramphenicol (78.27%), ciprofloxacin (77.78%), levofloxacin (59.88%) and gentamicin (56.17%). Relevant resistance genes were assessed in the isolates that showed high phenotypic resistance, and the highest resistance gene harbored by the isolates was catII (95%) gene while VIM, KPC, Ges, bla-OXA-48-like, tetC, tetD, tetK, IMI and catI genes were not detected. The occurrence of this pathogen and the detection of virulence and antimicrobial resistance-associated genes in Campylobacter isolates recovered from milk/water samples position them a risk to human health.

Abstract
Current scenario in communicable diseases has generated new era that identifies the "One health" approach to understand the sharing and management of etiological agents with its impact on ecosystem. Under this context the relevance of zoonotic diseases generates major concern. The indiscriminate and higher use of antibiotics in animal husbandry creates substantial pressure on the gut microbiome for development of resistance due to shorter generation time and high density. Thus, gut works as a bioreactor for the breeding of ARBs in this scenario and are continuously released in different niches. These ARBs transfer resistance genes among native flora through horizontal gene transfer events, vectors and quorum sensing. About 60% of infectious diseases in human are caused by zoonotic pathogens have potential to carry ARGs which could be transmitted to humans. The well documented zoonotic diseases are anthrax cause by Bacillus anthracis, bovine tuberculosis by Mycobacterium tuberculosis, brucellosis by Brucella abortus, and hemorrhagic colitis by Escherichia coli. Similarly, most of the antibiotics are not completely metabolized and released in unmetabolized forms which enters the food chain and affect various ecological niches through bioaccumulation. The persistence period of antibiotics ranges from < 1 to 3466 days in environment. The consequences of misusing the antibiotic in livestock and their fate in various ecological niches have been discussed in this review. Further the light sheds on antibiotics persistence and it biodegradation through different abiotic and biotic approaches in environment. The knowledge on personnel hygiene and strong surveillance system for zoonotic disease including ARBs transmission, prevention and control measures should be established to regulate the spread of AMR in the environment and subsequently to the human being through a food web.

Abstract
Human infections with Campylobacter are primarily associated with the consumption of contaminated poultry meat. In this study, we isolated Campylobacterjejuni from retail raw chicken and duck meat in Korea and compared their aerotolerance, antibiotic resistance, and virulence gene prevalence. Whereas C. jejuni isolates from chicken dominantly belonged to multilocus sequence typing (MLST) clonal complex (CC)-21, CC-45 is the common MLST sequence type in duck meat isolates. C. jejuni strains from both chicken and duck meat were highly tolerant to aerobic stress. The prevalence of virulence genes was higher in C. jejuni strains from chicken than those from duck meat. However, antibiotic resistance was higher in duck meat isolates than chicken isolates. Based on the prevalence of virulence genes and antibiotic resistance, fluoroquinolone-resistant C. jejuni strains harboring all tested virulence genes except virB11 were predominant on retail poultry. Fluoroquinolone-resistant C. jejuni strains carrying most virulence genes were more frequently isolated in summer than in winter. The comparative profiling analysis in this study successfully demonstrated that antibiotic-resistant and pathogenic strains of C. jejuni are highly prevalent on retail poultry and that retail duck meat is an important vehicle potentially transmitting C. jejuni to humans in Korea.

Abstract
Proposals to update the harmonised monitoring and reporting of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) from a public health perspective in Salmonella, Campylobacter coli, Campylobacter jejuni, Escherichia coli, Enterococcus faecalis, Enterococcus faecium and methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) from food-producing animals and derived meat in the EU are presented in this report, accounting for recent trends in AMR, data collection needs and new scientific developments. Phenotypic monitoring of AMR in bacterial isolates, using microdilution methods for testing susceptibility and interpreting resistance using epidemiological cut-off values is reinforced, including further characterisation of those isolates of E. coli and Salmonella showing resistance to extended-spectrum cephalosporins and carbapenems, as well as the specific monitoring of ESBL/AmpC/carbapenemase-producing E. coli. Combinations of bacterial species, food-producing animals and meat, as well as antimicrobial panels have been reviewed and adapted, where deemed necessary. Considering differing sample sizes, numerical simulations have been performed to evaluate the related statistical power available for assessing occurrence and temporal trends in resistance, with a predetermined accuracy, to support the choice of harmonised sample size. Randomised sampling procedures, based on a generic proportionate stratified sampling process, have been reviewed and reinforced. Proposals to improve the harmonisation of monitoring of prevalence, genetic diversity and AMR in MRSA are presented. It is suggested to complement routine monitoring with specific cross-sectional surveys on MRSA in pigs and on AMR in bacteria from seafood and the environment. Whole genome sequencing (WGS) of isolates obtained from the specific monitoring of ESBL/AmpC/carbapenemase-producing E. coli is strongly advocated to be implemented, on a voluntary basis, over the validity period of the next legislation, with possible mandatory implementation by the end of the period; the gene sequences encoding for ESBL/AmpC/carbapenemases being reported to EFSA. Harmonised protocols for WGS analysis/interpretation and external quality assurance programmes are planned to be provided by the EU-Reference Laboratory on AMR.

Abstract
Resumo Campylobacter jejuni é o principal causador de gastroenterite bacteriana aguda e a carne de frango é um importante veículo do agente. Entretanto, as metodologias convencionais de isolamento de Campylobacter muitas vezes não são eficientes, podendo levar a resultados errôneos. Sendo assim, este trabalho teve como objetivo avaliar diferentes métodos utilizados na detecção de C. jejuni em produtos de frango. Carne moída experimentalmente contaminada com três diferentes diluições do microrganismo foi analisada com diferentes protocolos para isolamento de C. jejuni. Foram feitas semeaduras diretamente nos ágares mCCDA, Columbia e ágar sangue, e após pré-enriquecimento nos caldos Bolton ou Brucella. As colônias características de Campylobacter foram identificadas e os resultados comparados a fim de avaliar qual o método foi mais eficaz. Os únicos protocolos em que foi possível recuperar o microrganismo de todos os testes foram aqueles em que foi utilizado o ágar mCCDA associado com o Caldo Bolton ou com o Caldo Brucella. Estes foram também os únicos protocolos que permitiram a recuperação de C. jejuni 24 horas após a contaminação experimental com inóculo igual a 100 UFC/25 g. Entretanto, o ágar mCCDA sem o uso de pré-enriquecimento apresentou desempenho insatisfatório, inferior ao dos demais protocolos. Conclui-se que ágar mCCDA com pré-enriquecimento em caldo Brucella ou em caldo Bolton foram mais eficientes para o isolamento de C. jejuni que os demais protocolos.

Abstract
Emerging resistance to the antimicrobial agents of choice for treatment of thermophilic Campylobacter infections is becoming a serious threat to public health. In this study, 548 Campylobacter (372 C. jejuni and 176 C. coli) isolates from diarrheal patients and poultry meat were subjected for antibiotic susceptibility analysis to ciprofloxacin, tetracycline, gentamicin, erythromycin and clindamycin. Among them, 151 Campylobacter (32 C. jejuni and 119 C. coli) were identified as multidrug resistant isolates. PFGE analysis was performed on the 151 multidrug resistant isolates to determine their genetic relatedness, and 103 PFGE genotypes were determined. Some isolates from both human and chicken belonged to identical genotypes, indicating these clones might be able to spread between human and chicken. Antibiotic resistant genes of the 151 isolates were identified. The numbers of isolates carried tet (O), aadE, ermB, and aadE-sat4-aphA were 148 (98%), 89 (58.9%), 31 (20.5%), and 10 (6.6%), respectively. Almost all (n = 150, 99.3%) had gyrA mutation at codon 86. And the 23s rRNA A2075G point mutation was found in 56 (37.1%) isolates. Gene mutations at the cmeR-cmeABC intergenic region may lead to the activation of CmeABC multidrug efflux pump, and in this study novel sequence types of the intergenic region were identified in both C. jejuni and C. coli. This study determined the genetic prerequisites for antibiotic resistance of multidrug resistant Campylobacter isolates from diarrheal patients and poultry meat in Shanghai, China.

Abstract
Fosfomycin is a broad-spectrum antibiotic with the activity against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative pathogens by inhibiting the bacterial cell wall synthesis. Given the potential therapeutic efficacy of fosfomycin against Campylobacter spp., the aim of the present study was to determine the in vitro fosfomycin susceptibility of Campylobacter isolates from avian sources including poultry and wild birds. A total of eight (1.8%) strains of Campylobacter including five C. jejuni strains isolated from ducks and three C. coli strains isolated from chickens and duck showed resistance to fosfomycin, with MICs ranging from 64 to ≥ 256 μg/mL. The extent of fosfomycin resistance was 0%, 0.9% and 3.9% in wild birds, chicken and ducks respectively. The MIC50, MIC90, and MIC100 values were 8, 32, and 32 μg/mL respectively in wild bird, 32, 32, and 64 μg/mL respectively in chicken, and 32, 32, and ≥ 256 μg/mL respectively in ducks. All eight fosfomycin-resistant Campylobacter strains were multidrug resistant; six were also resistant to fluoroquinolones, ampicillin, and tetracycline, and two were also resistant to fluoroquinolones, ampicillin, tetracycline, and macrolides. However, the fosfomycin resistance gene fosXCC was not detected in the eight fosfomycin-resistant strains. Because food animals can harbor fosfomycin-resistant Campylobacter and transmit them to humans, greater efforts are needed to monitor the prevalence of fosfomycin resistance in Campylobacter strains isolated from such animals.

Abstract
We investigated the molecular mechanisms underlying macrolide resistance in 38 strains of Campylobacter isolated from poultry. Twenty-seven strains were resistant to azithromycin and erythromycin, five showed intermediate azithromycin resistance and erythromycin susceptibility, and six showed azithromycin resistance and erythromycin susceptibility. Four Campylobacter jejuni and six Campylobacter coli strains had azithromycin MICs which were 8-16 and 2-8-fold greater than those of erythromycin, respectively. The A2075G mutation in the 23S rRNA gene was detected in 11 resistant strains with MICs ranging from 64 to ≥ 512 μg/mL. Mutations including V137A, V137S, and a six-amino acid insertion (114-VAKKAP-115) in ribosomal protein L22 were detected in the C. jejuni strains. Erythromycin ribosome methylase B-erm(B) was not detected in any strain. All strains except three showed increased susceptibility to erythromycin with twofold to 256-fold MIC change in the presence of phenylalanine arginine ß-naphthylamide (PAßN); the effects of PAßN on azithromycin MICs were limited in comparison to those on erythromycin MICs, and 13 strains showed no azithromycin MIC change in the presence of PAßN. Differences between azithromycin and erythromycin resistance and macrolide resistance phenotypes and genotypes were observed even in highly resistant strains. Further studies are required to better understand macrolide resistance in Campylobacter.

Abstract
Currently Campylobacter is the most commonly reported zoonosis in developed and developing countries. In the European Union, the number of reported confirmed cases of human campylobacteriosis was 246,307 in 2016, which represents 66.3 cases per 100,000 population. The genus Campylobacter includes 31 species with 10 subspecies. Within the genus Campylobacter, C. jejuni subsp. jejuni and C. coli are most frequently associated with human illness. Mainly, the infection is sporadic and self-limiting, although some cases of outbreaks have been also reported and some complications such as Guillain-Barré syndrome might appear sporadically. Although campylobacters are fastidious microaerophilic, unable to multiply outside the host and generally very sensitive, they can adapt and survive in the environment, exhibiting aerotolerance and resistance to starvation. Many mechanisms are involved in this, including pathogenicity, biofilm formation, and antibiotic resistant pathways. This chapter reviews the sources, transmission routes, the mechanisms, and strategies used by Campylobacter to persist in the whole food chain, from farm to fork. Additionally, different strategies are recommended for application along the poultry food chain to avoid the public health risk associated with this pathogen.

Abstract
The thermotolerant species Campylobacter jejuni, Campylobacter coli, Campylobacter lari and Campylobacter upsaliensis are the causative agents of the human illness called campylobacteriosis. This infection represents a threat for the health of consumers in Europe. It is well known that poultry meat is an important food vehicle of Campylobacter infection. As emerged from the reported scientific literature published between 2006 and 2016, poultry meat sold at retail level in Europe represents an important source of the pathogen. The contamination level of poultry meat sold at retail can vary depending on pre- and post-harvest factors. Among the pre-harvest measures, strict biosecurity practices must be guaranteed; moreover, among post-harvest control measures scalding, chilling and removal of faecal residues can reduce the contamination level of Campylobacter. An additional issue is represented by increasing proportion of Campylobacter isolates resistant to tetracyclines, ciprofloxacin, and nalidixic acid, thus feeding a serious concern on the effectiveness of antibiotic treatment for human campylobacteriosis in a near future.

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to identify the molecular basis of quinolone resistance of Campylobacter isolates recovered from duck meats. Sixty-one isolates from duck meat samples were studied using sequence analysis of the gyrA gene, and PCR assays were used to identify the presence of the CmeABC efflux pump and its restored sensitivity in the presence of efflux-pump inhibitors. High-level resistance to nalidixic acid and ciprofloxacin was attributed to amino acid substitutions Thr-86-Ile in some isolates. The PCR assay confirmed the presence of the cmeB gene in 29 (47.5%) of the 61 Campylobacter isolates. Phenylalanine arginine β-naphthylamide reduced the MICs of ciprofloxacin and nalidixic acid in 16 (55.2%) and 26 (89.7%) isolates, respectively. The Thr-86-Ile substitution in the gyrA was the primary contributor to the high-level quinolone resistance in Campylobacter isolates from duck meats.

Abstract
PURPOSE Current study was aimed to enhance the confidence of consumers as well as entrepreneurs towards food irradiation program. MATERIALS AND METHODS In this work, safety of high dose (25 kGy) irradiated meat samples (HDIMS) was ascertained by scoring mutation frequency through a long-term sub-culturing study in Escherichia coli MG1655 cells (ATCC 700926) up to 1500 generations (at 1%), 250 generations (at 5% and 10%) and human lymphoblast thymidine kinase heterozygote (TK6) cell line (ATCC CRL-8015) [at two gene loci, tk-/+ (thymidine kinase) and hprt+ (Hypoxanthine Phosphoribosyltransferase)] up to 156 generations using goat meat sample. Also these samples were assayed at further radiation doses of 10, 45 and 70 kGy at 2% concentration (in cell line), and 1% (in E. coli). Study was also performed with other meat samples such as chicken, fishes (pomfret and rohu) and shrimps by carrying out limited long-term sub-culturing trials in human lymphoblast cell line. Mutation analysis was also carried out using a novel DPAR (Differential loss of Plasmid Antibiotic Resistance) assay followed by sequencing of tcR (tetracycline resistance) gene of pBR322 plasmid isolated from E. coli cells grown for 1500 generations on HDIMS medium and RAPD (Random Amplified Polymorphic DNA) analysis of the genome. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION None of the assays exhibited any induced mutation when analyzed at regular time intervals. RAPD analysis also did not indicate any change in its nucleotide sequence, ruling out the occurrence of any silent mutation. Thus, the present findings report absence of mutagenic effect of high dose irradiated meat samples.

Abstract
This study was designed and conducted to evaluate the frequency, antimicrobial resistance, and presence of six virulence-associated genes among thermophilic Campylobacters isolated from raw milk, poultry (chicken, turkey, and duck), fish, cattle, and sheep meat. Out of 590 samples, which were recovered from different origins, 141 (23.9%) samples were positive for Campylobacters. Campylobacter spp. was isolated in 40.8% (106/260), 14% (28/200), and 8.7% (7/80) of poultry meat, red meat, and milk samples, respectively. Antimicrobial susceptibility test indicated a high frequency of resistance to ciprofloxacin, tetracycline, and nalidixic acid among the isolates. Furthermore, prevalence of waaC, ciaB, and pldA genes were 91.7%, 86.7%, and 80.8%, respectively; and, none of the isolates harbored both wlaN and cgtB genes, simultaneously. Moreover, there was a weak correlation between antibiotics resistance and presence of the pathogen genes. However, the existence of Campylobacter spp. isolates in food animal products, with high resistance to antibiotics and several virulence gene possessions, is alarming and increases the attention to the widespread use of antibiotics.

Abstract
Aim: This study was accomplished to test raw milk and certain dairy products sold in local markets of Qena, Egypt, for the presence of Campylobacter coli and Campylobacter jejuni. Materials and Methods: A total of 150 samples of raw milk, kareish cheese, and yoghurt (50 samples each) were subjected first to enrichment in Bolton broth at 42°C for 2 days under a microaerobic condition, subsequently campylobacter blood free selective agar plates were cultured and incubated in the same condition of the broth. Based on the morphological and biochemical themes of the growing colonies, it was further classified into Campylobacter spp. The identified isolates were later affirmed by polymerase chain reaction using primers that were designed to locate hipO genes in C. jejuni and glyA in C. coli. Results: Of the total 150 examined samples of raw milk and soft cheese samples; 37 (24.6%) samples were contaminated with Campylobacter spp. C. jejuni was dominating in this study in 20%, 14%, and 8% of the examined raw milk, kareish cheese, and yoghurt samples, respectively. No sample harbored C. coli. Conclusion: Campylobacter spp. could be detected in 24.6% of the investigated samples. C. jejuni isolated from 14% of the total tested samples, while C. coli could not be detected from the examined samples. Campylobacter spp. is rampant in the areas of poor hygienic conditions making products made from raw milk of public health hazard.
