Abstract
Aroma quality is a key indicator of the degree of roasting of large-leaf yellow tea (LYT). In this study, a colorimetric sensing array (CSA) composed of tetraphenylporphyrin (TPP) was designed for the rapid quantitative detection of key volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in LYT. First, the responses of the CSA system were compared under three environmental conditions. The response intensity of the TPPs to the VOCs was analysed using density functional theory (DFT). Finally, on the basis of the DFT calculations, a streamlined CSA sensor incorporating a least-squares support vector machine model was designed for the quantitative detection of 2-ethyl-3,5-dimethylpyridazine, 2,5-dimethylpyrazine, benzaldehyde, dihydro-2-methyl-3-furanone, linalool, and trans-β-ionone at levels ranging from 0.005 to 5 ppm. The predictive coefficients and relative predictive deviations of the quantitative model ranged from 0.82 to 0.93 and 1.75 to 2.65, respectively. This study provides a theoretical basis for the construction of CSA and a novel perspective on the monitoring of tea processing and quality.

Abstract
Depression is strongly linked to dysfunctions in the microbiota-gut-brain axis. Jasmine tea, a traditional Chinese beverage made by combining green tea with Jasminum sambac, has potential antidepressant effects. However, its potential to alleviate depression via modulation of the microbiota-gut-brain axis remains largely unstudied. In this study, we used a rat model of depression induced by chronic unpredictable mild stress (CUMS) to investigate the effects of jasmine tea extract (JT) on depression-related symptoms. Behavioral assessments, inflammatory marker analysis, hippocampal histology, and brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) expression assays demonstrated that JT alleviated depressive behaviors, reduced brain tissue damage, and restored cognitive function in CUMS-exposed rats. JT also significantly reduced intestinal levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines (IL-1β, IL-6, and TNF-α) and modulated oxidative stress markers (MDA, SOD, and CAT), suggesting a role in preserving intestinal integrity. Further, 16S rRNA sequencing revealed that JT shifted the gut microbiota composition in favor of beneficial bacteria such as Romboutsia, Blautia, and Monoglobus, while decreasing the abundance of potentially harmful bacteria, including Bifidobacterium, Clostridium_sensu_stricto_1, and Escherichia-Shigella. Meanwhile, non-targeted and targeted metabolomics analyses showed that JT influenced key metabolic pathways involving tryptophan, short-chain fatty acids, and bile acids, helping to restore metabolic balance across various tissues (feces, colon, serum, and cerebral cortex) in the depressed rats. These findings indicate that JT may alleviate depression by modulating the microbiota-gut-brain axis, highlighting its potential as a dietary intervention for depression management.

Abstract
ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE Traditional Chinese medicine has historically used Citrus aurantium L. cv. Daidai to alleviate anxiety and improve mood. Essential oils are the primary active component of Citrus aurantium L. cv. Daidai, but little research has been conducted on the active substances and mechanisms of the antidepressant effect of Citrus aurantium L. cv. Daidai essential oil (CEO). AIM OF THE STUDY This research used network pharmacology, molecular docking, transcriptomics, and in vitro and in vivo experimental validation to assess the effectiveness and therapeutic mechanism of CEO. MATERIALS AND METHODS We used gas chromatography‒mass spectrometry (GC-MS) to identify and quantify CEO components and brain-penetrating chemicals. CEO was given to chronic and unpredictable mild stimulation (CUMS) mice for 4 weeks. Depression was assessed using sucrose preference, forced swimming, tail suspension, elevated plus-maze, and open field tests. Analyzing brain homogenates and serum biochemistry data simultaneously revealed neurotransmitter and hormone alterations. Tissue samples were collected for histological and protein analysis. Furthermore, transcriptome and network pharmacology were used to investigate the mechanism by which CEO alleviates depression, and in vitro glutamate (Glu)-induced PC12 cell injury assays were conducted to validate this new mechanism. RESULTS CEO inhalation altered neurotransmitter and hormone expression and improved CUMS-induced weight and depression-like behavior in mice. Compared with CUMS mice, CEO mice presented less pathological brain damage, as demonstrated by HE staining, immunohistochemistry, Golgi staining, transmission electron microscopy, and immunofluorescence staining. We discovered that 13 of the active chemicals in CEO act on 522 targets, 96 of which are linked to depression. PRKACA was identified as the core target by a modular analysis of the PPI network. Network pharmacology and transcriptomics revealed that CEO influences depression via the cAMP/PKA/Grin2b pathway and Glu synaptic modulation. In vivo studies indicated that CEO administration reduced PKA and Grin2b phosphorylation in CUMS mice, inhibited the cAMP/PKA/Grin2b pathway, protected against synaptic deficits, and restored HPA axis function. In vitro investigations revealed that the survival rate of PC12 cells treated with CEO increased, the apoptotic rate decreased, and the expression of LDH, Ca2+, and MDA decreased. Western blot and immunofluorescence staining indicated that CEO inhibits the cAMP/PKA/Grin2b pathway to regulate Glu-induced PC12 cells and that 8-Bromo-cAMP pretreatment reduces the protective effect of CEO. CONCLUSIONS The active chemicals in CEO can inhibit the cAMP/PKA/Grin2b pathway, reduce anxiety and depression, alleviate excitotoxicity caused by Glu synaptic overactivation, protect against hypothalamic synaptic deficits, and restore HPA axis function. This research could serve as a reference for the field of illness prevention and complementary therapies for depression.

Abstract
Depression, a serious mental illness, is characterized by high risk, high incidence, persistence, and tendency to relapse, posing a significant burden on global health. The connection between depression and gut microbiota is an emerging field of study in psychiatry and neuroscience. Understanding the gut-brain axis is pivotal for understanding the pathogenesis and treatment of depression. Gut microbes influence depression-like behaviors by impacting the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis (HPA), monoamine neurotransmitters, immune responses, cell signaling, and metabolic pathways. Tea, widely used in clinical practice to improve neuropsychiatric disorders, contains Epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), a major ingredient of green tea, which effectively regulates intestinal flora. This review examined the risks and causes of depression, the complications associated with intestinal flora, their role in the development and treatment of depression, and how EGCG may alleviate depression through interactions with gut microbiota and other mechanisms.

Abstract
The major components of tea leaves and their infusions were analyzed for various types of green tea available in Japan in 2022. Almost all the green teas used were from the first crop, known for their high amino acid content. The amino acids theanine and arginine in green tea have been shown to reduce stress. On the other hand, epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) and caffeine, the major components of green tea, counteract the effects of theanine and arginine. We have shown that the CE/TA ratio, which is the ratio of the molar sum of caffeine (C) and EGCG (E) to the molar sum of theanine (T) and arginine (A), can be used to evaluate the stress-relieving effects of each green tea. Green tea with a CE/TA ratio smaller than 3 can be expected to have a stress-reducing effect. The CE/TA ratios of the tea leaves and infusions of Gyokuro, Sencha, and Tamaryokucha were less than 3, indicating that these teas are expected to have stress-relieving effects. In addition, when the same tea leaves were infused repeatedly, it was found that most of the amino acids were eluted by the first and second cups; therefore, no stress-relieving effect could be expected after the third cup.

Abstract
Worldwide, tea is a popular beverage; within the realm of Chinese tea, Sichuan tea holds particular significance for its role in the origin and composition of Chinese tea cultivars. Sichuan tea is noted for its rich content of free amino acids (FAAs) and tea polyphenols (TPs), which has made it an important subject for studying genetic diversity and the genes regulating these compounds. In this study, 139 varieties of tea were collected from areas in Sichuan Province, China, with similar geographical and climatic conditions. The FAA content was approximately 3% and the TP content was approximately 17%. Using RAD sequencing, 5,656,224 variant loci were identified, primarily comprising SNPs (94.17%) and indels (5.83%). Evolutionary analysis revealed that genetic divergence was not closely linked to the collection location. Population structure analysis confirmed a division into two main populations having a similar composition to the phylogenetic clusters. Screening for FAA-related SNPs identified significant loci associated with 33 genes that potentially regulate FAA content. Similarly, TP-related analysis pinpointed 8 SNPs significantly linked to 20 candidate genes. Notably, genetic associations hinted at the genes involved in the stress response and the accumulation of phenolic compounds, enhancing the understanding of determinants of tea quality. This research underscores the potential for molecular breeding based on genetic insights, suggesting pathways to improve the FAA and TP contents in tea. These findings not only provide a solid foundation for exploring gene-chemical interactions but also offer practical strategies for improving the nutritional and sensory attributes of tea cultivars through informed breeding practices.

Abstract
Depression, anxiety and sleep disorders are prevalent psychiatric conditions worldwide, significantly impacting the physical and mental well-being of individuals. The treatment of these conditions poses various challenges, including limited efficacy and potential side effects. Tea, a globally recognized healthful beverage, contains a variety of active compounds. Studies have shown that consuming tea or ingesting its certain active ingredients have a beneficial impact on the mental health issues mentioned above. While the effects of tea on physical health are well-documented, there remains a gap in our systematic understanding of its impact on mental health. This article offers a thorough overview of animal, clinical, and epidemiological studies examining tea and its components in the treatment of depression, anxiety, and sleep disorders, and summarizes the associated molecular mechanisms. The active ingredients in tea, including L-theanine, γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA), arginine, catechins, theaflavins, caffeine, theacrine, and several volatile compounds, may help improve depression, anxiety, and sleep disorders. The underlying molecular mechanisms involve the regulation of neurotransmitters, including monoamines, GABA, and brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), as well as the suppression of oxidative stress and inflammation. Additionally, these ingredients may influence the microbiota-gut-brain (MGB) axis and the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis. Abstract
Tea contains a variety of bioactive components, including catechins, amino acids, tea pigments, caffeine and tea polysaccharides, which exhibit multiple biological activities. These functional components in tea provide a variety of unique flavors, such as bitterness, astringency, sourness, sweetness and umami, which meet the demand of people for natural plant drinks with health benefits and pleasant flavor. Meanwhile, the traditional process of tea plantation, manufacturing and circulation are often accompanied by the safety problems of pesticide residue, heavy metal, organic solvents and other exogenous risks. High-quality tea extract refers to the special tea extract obtained by enriching the specific components of tea. Through green and efficient extraction technologies, diversed high-quality tea extracts such as high-fragrance and high-amino acid tea extracts, low-caffeine and high-catechin tea extracts, high-bioavailability and high-theaflavin tea extracts, high-antioxidant and high-tea polysaccharide tea extracts, high-umami-taste and low-bitter and astringent taste tea extracts are produced. Furthermore, rapid detection, green control and intelligent processing are applied to monitor the quality of tea in real-time, which guarantee the stability and safety of high-quality tea extracts with enhanced efficiency. These emerging technologies will realize the functionalization and specialization of high-quality tea extracts, and promote the sustainable development of tea industry.

Abstract
Tea, derived from the young leaves and buds of the Camellia sinensis plant, is a popular beverage that may influence the host microbiota. Its consumption has been shown to promote the growth of beneficial bacterial species while suppressing harmful ones. Simultaneously, host bacteria metabolize tea compounds, resulting in the production of bioactive molecules. Consequently, the health benefits associated with tea may stem from both the favorable bacteria it nurtures and the metabolites produced by these microbes. The gut microbiota plays a vital role in mediating the systemic immune homeostasis linked to tea consumption, functioning through complex pathways that involve the gut-lung, gut-brain, and gut-liver axes. Recent studies have sought to establish connections between tea, its bioactive compounds, and immune regulation via the gut microbiota. In this paper, we aim to summarize the latest research findings in this field.

Abstract
Hydrothermal carbonization (HTC) is an effective strategy for high-value utilization of tea residue (TR), and it was noticed the aqueous phase (AP) has not been extensively studied. This study aimed to investigate the chemical components and characteristics of the AP, and applied it in active food packaging films. The results showed that the total phenolic content of AP was 1.86 mg GAE/mL, and the main compounds in AP were organic acids, alcohols, and amino acids. The AP showed excellent antibacterial activity and antioxidant capacity. The active films were prepared using the casting method. The 4:7-AP/PVA film showed outstanding mechanical properties (tensile strength = 34.18 MPa, elongation at break = 458.67%), antioxidant ability (DPPH scavenging capacity 92.01%), antibacterial activity, water resistance and biocompatibility. The banana preservation test showed the AP/PVA films could successfully prolong the shelf-life of bananas and have the potential to be food packaging films.

Abstract
Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a chronic endocrine disorder that poses a long-term risk to human health accompanied by serious complications. Common antidiabetic drugs are usually accompanied by side effects such as hepatotoxicity and nephrotoxicity. There is an urgent need for natural dietary alternatives for diabetic treatment. Tea (Camellia sinensis) consumption has been widely investigated to lower the risk of diabetes and its complications through restoring glucose metabolism homeostasis, safeguarding pancreatic β-cells, ameliorating insulin resistance, ameliorating oxidative stresses, inhibiting inflammatory response, and regulating intestinal microbiota. It is indispensable to develop effective strategies to improve the absorption of tea active compounds and exert combinational effects with other natural compounds to broaden its hypoglycemic potential. The advances in clinical trials and population-based investigations are also discussed. This review primarily delves into the antidiabetic potential and underlying mechanisms of tea active compounds, providing a theoretical basis for the practical application of tea and its active compounds against diabetes.

Abstract
Allergic rhinitis (AR) is a type-I hypersensitivity disease mediated by immunoglobulin E (IgE). Although antihistamines, glucocorticoids, leukotriene receptor antagonists, and other drugs are widely used to treat AR, the various adverse side effects of long-term use of these drugs should not be ignored. Therefore, more effective and safe natural alternative strategies are urgently needed. To this end, this study designed a nanosupramolecular delivery system composed of β-cyclodextrin supramolecular polymer (PCD), thiolated chitosan (TCS), and natural polyphenol epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) for intranasal topical continuous treatment of AR. The TCS/PCD@EGCG nanocarriers exhibited an excellent performance in terms of retention and permeability in the nasal mucosa and released the vast majority of EGCG responsively in the nasal microenvironment, thus resulting in the significantly high antibacterial and antioxidant capacities. According to the in vitro model, compared with free EGCG, TCS/PCD@EGCG inhibited mast cell activity and abnormal histamine secretion in a more long-term and sustained manner. According to the in vivo model, whether in the presence of continuous or intermittent administration, TCS/PCD@EGCG substantially inhibited the secretion of allergenic factors and inflammatory factors, mitigated the pathological changes of nasal mucosa, alleviated the symptoms of rhinitis in mice, and produced a satisfactory therapeutic effect on AR. In particular, the therapeutic effect of TCS/PCD@EGCG systems were even superior to that of budesonide during intermittent treatment. Therefore, the TCS/PCD@EGCG nanocarrier is a potential long-lasting antiallergic medicine for the treatment of AR.

Abstract
Depression is a prevalent mental disorder. However, clinical treatment options primarily based on chemical drugs have demonstrated varying degrees of adverse reactions and drug resistance, including somnolence, nausea, and cognitive impairment. Therefore, the development of novel antidepressant medications that effectively reduce suffering and side effects has become a prominent area of research. Polysaccharides are bioactive compounds extracted from natural plants that possess diverse pharmacological activities and medicinal values. It has been discovered that polysaccharides can effectively mitigate depression symptoms. This paper provides an overview of the pharmacological action and mechanisms, intervention approaches, and experimental models regarding the antidepressant effects of polysaccharides derived from various natural sources. Additionally, we summarize the roles and potential mechanisms through which these polysaccharides prevent depression by regulating neurotransmitters, HPA axis, neurotrophic factors, neuroinflammation, oxidative stress, tryptophan metabolism, and gut microbiota. Natural plant polysaccharides hold promise as adjunctive antidepressants for prevention, reduction, and treatment of depression by exerting their therapeutic effects through multiple pathways and targets. Therefore, this review aims to provide scientific evidence for developing polysaccharide resources as effective antidepressant drugs.

Abstract
The potential biological function of tea and its active components on colitis has attracted wide attention. In this study, different tea active ingredients including tea polyphenols (TPPs), tea polysaccharides (TPSs), theabrownin (TB), and theanine (TA) have been compared in the intervention of dextran sulfate sodium (DSS)-induced colitis in mice. Specifically, TPP showed the greatest effect on colitis since it reduced 60.87% of disease activity index (DAI) compared to that of the DSS-induced colitis group, followed by the reduction of 39.13% of TPS and 28.26% of TB on DAI, whereas there was no obvious alleviative effect of TA on colitis. TPP, TPS, and TB could regulate the composition and abundance of gut microbiota to increase the content of short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) and enhance intestinal barrier function. Further evidence was observed that TPP and TPS regulated the activation of Nrf2/ARE and the TLR4/MyD88/NF-κB P65 pathway to alleviate the colitis. Results of cell experiments demonstrated that TPP showed the greatest antiapoptosis and mitochondrial function protective capability among the tea ingredients via inhibiting the Cytc/Cleaved-caspase-3 signaling pathway. In summary, the superior anticolitis activity of TPP compared to TPS and TB is primarily attributed to its unique upregulation of the abundance of Akkermansia and its ability to regulate the mitochondrial function.

Abstract
Tea is a traditional plant beverage originating from China as one of the most popular beverages worldwide, which has been an important companion in modern society. Nevertheless, as the waste after tea processing, tea residues from agriculture, industry and kitchen waste are discarded in large quantities, resulting in waste of resources and environmental pollution. In recent years, the comprehensive utilization of tea residue resources has attracted people's attention. The bioactive components remaining in tea residues demonstrate a variety of health benefits and can be recycled using advanced extraction processes. Furthermore, researchers have been devoted to converting tea residues into derivatives such as biosorbents, agricultural compost, and animal feeds through thermochemical techniques and biotechnology. This review summarized the chemical composition and physiological activities of bioactive components from tea residue. The extraction methods of bioactive components in tea residue were elucidated and the main high-value applications of tea residues were proposed. On this basis, the utilization of tea residues can be developed from a single way to a multi-channel or cascade way to improve its economic efficiency. Novel applications of tea residues in different fields, including food development, environmental remediation, energy production and composite materials, are of far-reaching significance. Abstract
Depression is a mental disorder characterized by low mood, lack of motivation, negative cognitive outlook, and sleep problems. Suicide may occur in severe cases, although suicidal thoughts are not seen in all cases. Globally, an estimated 350 million individuals grapple with depression, as reported by the World Health Organization. At present, drug and psychological treatments are the main treatments, but they produce insufficient responses in many patients and fail to work at all in many others. Consequently, treating depression has long been an important topic in society. Given the escalating prevalence of depression, a comprehensive strategy for managing its symptoms and impacts has garnered significant attention. In this context, nutritional psychiatry emerges as a promising avenue. Extensive research has underscored the potential benefits of a well-rounded diet rich in fruits, vegetables, fish, and meat in alleviating depressive symptoms. However, the intricate mechanisms linking dietary interventions to brain function alterations remain largely unexplored. This review delves into the intricate relationship between dietary patterns and depression, while exploring the plausible mechanisms underlying the impact of dietary interventions on depression management. As we endeavor to unveil the pathways through which nutrition influences mental well-being, a holistic perspective that encompasses multidisciplinary strategies gains prominence, potentially reshaping how we approach and address depression.

Abstract
Green tea-derived catechins, which can be divided into galloylated (epicatechin gallate: ECG, epigallocatechin gallate: EGCG) and non-galloylated (catechin: C, epicatechin: EC, epigallocatechin: EGC) catechins, are considered to be the main contributors to the caries control potential of green tea. In this study, we intended to compare the antimicrobial effects of these representative green tea-derived catechins and their combined effects with fluoride on the acid production and aggregation of Streptococcus mutans. The effects of different catechins on the growth, aggregation and acid production of S. mutans, and the combined effect of catechins and potassium fluoride (2 mm at pH 7.0, 0.3 mm at pH 5.5) on S. mutans acid production were measured by anaerobic culture, turbidity changes due to aggregation, and pH-stat methods. Molecular docking simulations were also performed to investigate the interactions between catechins and membrane-embedded enzyme II complex (EIIC), a component of the phosphoenolpyruvate-dependent phosphotransferase system (sugar uptake-related enzyme). ECG or EGCG at 1 mg/mL significantly inhibited the growth of S. mutans, induced bacterial aggregation, and decreased glucose-induced acid production (p < 0.05). All catechins were able to bind to EIIC in silico, in the following order of affinity: EGCG, ECG, EGC, EC, and C. Furthermore, they enhanced the inhibitory effects of fluoride at pH 5.5 and significantly inhibited S. mutans acid production by 47.5-86.6% (p < 0.05). These results suggest that both galloylated and non-galloylated catechins exhibit antimicrobial activity, although the former type demonstrates stronger activity, and that the caries control effects of green tea may be due to the combined effects of multiple components, such as catechins and fluoride. The detailed mechanisms underlying these phenomena and the in vivo effect need to be explored further.

Abstract
Introduction Some studies have shown the effectiveness of tea in reducing depression. Gut flora dysfunction is strongly associated with depression. The mechanism by which Ziyan green tea ameliorates depression is not clear. Methods In this study, we examined the impact of Ziyan green tea on mice exhibiting symptoms similar to depression. We specifically focused on the role of intestinal flora and its metabolites. We first established a chronic unpredictable mild stress (CUMS) mouse model to induce depressive symptoms and conducted behavioural tests, biochemical tests, and pathological tissue analysis. We also investigated gut microbiota changes by 16S rRNA sequencing and measured faecal metabolites in mice using UHPLC-MS/MS. Results The results showed that Ziyan green tea intervention improved depression-like behaviour, neurobiochemical factors, and reduced levels of pro-inflammatory factors in CUMS mice. Spearman's correlation analysis showed that different microbial communities (Corynebacterium, Faecalibaculum, Enterorhabdus, Desulfovibrio) correlation with differential metabolites (Cholic acid, Deoxycholic acid, etc.) and depression-related biochemical indicators (5-HT, DA, BDNF, IL-6, and TNF-α). Discussion In conclusion, our findings suggest that both low and high-dose interventions of Ziyan green tea have positive preventive effects on CUMS mice without dose dependence, partly because they mainly affect intestinal Purine Metabolism, Bile Acid Biosynthesis and Cysteine Metabolism in CUMS mice, thus stimulating brain 5-HT, DA and BDNF, and decreasing the inflammatory factors IL-6, TNF-α, activate the composition of intestinal flora, improve the intestinal flora environment and thus promote the production of intestinal metabolites, which can be used for depression treatment. It is suggested that Ziyan green tea may achieve an antidepressant effect through the gut-microbiota-brain axis.

Abstract
Due to its rich health benefits and unique cultural charm, tea drinking is increasingly popular with the public in modern society. The safety of tea is the top priority that affects the development of tea industry and the health of consumers. During the process of tea growth, pesticides are used to prevent the invasion of pests and diseases with maintaining high quality and stable yield. Because hot water brewing is the traditional way of tea consumption, water is the main carrier for pesticide residues in tea into human body accompanied by potential risks. In this review, pesticides used in tea gardens are divided into two categories according to their solubility, among which water-soluble pesticides pose a greater risk. We summarized the methods of the sample pretreatment and detection of pesticide residues and expounded the migration patterns and influencing factors of tea throughout the process of growth, processing, storage, and consumption. Moreover, the toxicity and safety of pesticide residues and diseases caused by human intake were analyzed. The risk assessment and traceability of pesticide residues in tea were carried out, and potential eco-friendly improvement strategies were proposed. The review is expected to provide a valuable reference for reducing risks of pesticide residues in tea and ensuring the safety of tea consumption.

Abstract
Blue light emitted by smartphones and tablets at night increases the risk of depression. Pu-erh tea has been reported to reduce the risk of depression by regulating tryptophan metabolism, but its underlying protective mechanism on depression induced by blue light at night (BLAN) remains unclear. In this work, two groups of C57BL6/J mice were given water or 0.25% (w/v) Pu-erh tea for 120 days, followed by a 45-day BLAN treatment (400 lux blue light between 21:00 and 23:00) to simulate blue light emitted from electronic equipment. Our results indicated that BLAN induced depression-like behaviors and gut microbiota disorders in healthy mice. Pu-erh tea intake significantly reshaped the gut microbiome (especially Bifidobacterium) and regulated the metabolism of short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) which protected the integrity of the intestinal barrier. This improvement further reduced blood-brain barrier (BBB) damage and alleviated neuroinflammation by inhibiting MyD88/NF-κB pathways which finally regulated neurotransmitters such as brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine, 5-HT). Collectively, 0.25% (w/v) Pu-erh tea has the potential to prevent BLAN-induced depression-like behaviors by reshaping the gut microbiota and increasing the generation of SCFAs via the gut-brain axis.

Abstract
Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) is presently the largest international public health event, individuals infected by the virus not only have symptoms such as fever, dry cough, and lung infection at the time of onset, but also possibly have sequelae in the cardiovascular system, respiratory system, nervous system, mental health and other aspects. However, numerous studies have depicted that the active ingredients in tea show good antiviral effects and can treat various diseases by regulating multiple pathways, and the therapeutic effects are associated with the categories of chemical components in tea. In this review, the differences in the content of key active ingredients in different types of tea are summarized. In addition, we also highlighted their effects on COVID-19 and connected sequelae, further demonstrating the possibility of developing a formulation for the prevention and treatment of COVID-19 and its sequelae through tea extracts. We have a tendency to suggest forestalling and treating COVID-19 and its sequelae through scientific tea drinking.
