Abstract
Although biologically known for its central role in calcium homeostasis, Vitamin D3 (VD3), owing to its scattered receptors across bodily tissues and the presence of its metabolizing enzymes, has recently garnered scientific attention. This review examined the literature to document the role and specific mechanisms of action of VD3, its receptors, and metabolizing enzymes in male reproduction. Using the keywords Vitamin D3, vitamin D receptors, vitamin D metabolic enzymes, and male reproductive system to search PUBMED and other academic archives, it was observed that VD3, through its interaction with the VDR and with the backing of the activities of its metabolizing enzymes, modulates the male reproductive functions, acting as an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory in reproductive organs to prevent oxidative damages that may result from exposure to environmental toxicants and the increased oxygen utilization by mitochondria owing to high level of unsaturated fatty acids in the testis, thus preventing male infertility. Abstract
Purpose This comprehensive study examines the multifaceted relationship between vitamin D and cancer, synthesizing key scientific advancements and global research trends to guide future investigations and address critical gaps in the field. Methods Publications on vitamin D and cancer were retrieved from Scopus up to November 2024. English-language original and review articles were analyzed using Excel, VOSviewer, and Scimago Graphica, focusing on publication trends, citation impacts, and research themes. Results A total of 11,442 publications (80.01% original articles, 19.98% reviews; 51.24% open access) were analyzed. The United States of America led in publications (38.3%) and citations (56.2%), followed by China (7.7%) and the United Kingdom (7.2%) in output, and the United Kingdom (10.6%) and Germany (6.4%) in citations. Countries with the highest citations per document were Belgium (103.4), Slovenia (87.9), and Puerto Rico (76.6). The most frequently studied cancers in relation to vitamin D were breast, colorectal, prostate, skin, lung, ovarian, pancreatic, gastric, hepatocellular, thyroid, leukemia, multiple myeloma, bladder, lymphoma, osteosarcoma, cervical, endometrial, and glioblastoma, respectively. Cluster analysis revealed key patterns related to vitamin D: Calcitriol's chemopreventive role in breast, prostate, and colorectal cancers, dietary vitamin D for its involvement in ovarian cancer, vitamin D for regulation of cancer-related hypercalcemia, vitamin D deficiency links to inflammation-obesity-cancer risk, VDR polymorphisms affecting outcomes in lung and colorectal cancers, and vitamin D's photoprotective effects on skin malignancies, and vitamin D in ulcerative colitis-related cancer. The most cited articles emphasized optimal vitamin D levels and cancer prevention. Conclusion This study highlights the extensive research on vitamin D and its complex links to cancer, emphasizing future prospects with a focus on precision medicine approaches, including targeted supplementation and genomic analyses, to better address individual variability in cancer prevention and treatment.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Prostate cancer is a prevalent form of cancer that impacts men on a global scale, and its treatment faces challenges such as tumor metastasis, immune resistance, and epigenetic abnormalities. Most current research focuses on nanocarriers with a single function, but the dual mechanism of action-enhancing immune response and regulating EZH2 epigenetic modification-has not been reported. PURPOSE This study is the first to construct an engineered outer membrane vesicle (OMV) delivery system loaded with PD-1 antibody and Curcumol, combining two cutting-edge approaches: tumor immunotherapy and epigenetic regulation. We developed a nanocarrier system based on engineered OMVs (OMV-PD-1) to deliver the natural anticancer compound Curcumol, aiming to regulate epigenetic modifications and enhance tumor immune responses, thereby effectively inhibiting the proliferation and metastasis of prostate cancer cells. METHODS OMV-PD-1 was prepared using recombinant technology, and its characteristics were identified through the application of liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS), dynamic light scattering (DLS), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). We assessed its antitumor activity against prostate cancer cells (PC3) in vitro and in vivo and explored its molecular mechanisms through RNA sequencing and gene set enrichment analysis (GSEA). RESULTS An outstanding encapsulation efficiency and a delayed drug release profile were evident in OMV-PD-1/Curcumol. In vitro experiments demonstrated that the system significantly inhibited PC3 cell migration (77.25 % inhibition) and invasion (73.03 % inhibition), and regulated histone methylation modifications (such as H3K9 and H3K27) by downregulating EZH2 gene expression. In vivo experiments confirmed its excellent tumor targeting in a humanized mouse model, significantly inhibiting tumor growth and enhancing immune responses, such as increased NK cell infiltration and elevated pro-inflammatory cytokine levels. CONCLUSION The OMV-PD-1/Curcumol delivery system developed in this study not only hinders the aggressive actions of prostate cancer cells by regulating epigenetic modifications but also significantly stimulates antitumor immune responses, offering a unique and readily implementable therapeutic avenue.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Vitamins are essential for homeostasis and proper functioning of organisms. These micronutrients prevent tumor onset by functioning as antioxidants and enzymatic cofactors involved in anti-stress and immune responses, modulating epigenetic regulators, and shaping the microbiota composition. Unbalanced diets and sedentary lifestyles contribute to obesity, associated with increasing cancer risk. Cancer patients often exhibit vitamin deficiencies due to chronic inflammation, anticancer therapies, and tumor-induced metabolic changes, leading to malnutrition and cachexia. AREAS COVERED This review critically analyzes preclinical and clinical studies, sourced from PubMed and ClinicalTrials.gov databases, that investigate the potential benefits of vitamin supplementation and dietary interventions, such as intermittent fasting and ketogenic diets, in mouse tumor models and cancer patients. This analysis elucidates the limitations of such interventions and suggests optimal dietary strategies to prevent cancer and enhance patients' quality of life and prognosis. EXPERT OPINION To date, clinical studies have found no substantial benefit of over-the-counter vitamin supplements and dietary interventions on cancer patients' health and prognosis. To prevent the spread of useless and potentially harmful products by the nutraceutical industry, establishing a regulatory authority is necessary to monitor and ensure product quality and validity before commercialization.

Abstract
Vitamin D and its metabolites exert anti-cancer properties in various cancers; however, their effects on cervical cancer remain largely unexplored. To investigate this gap, we exposed HeLa adenocarcinoma cervical cells to physiological and the growth inhibition 20% (GI20) concentration of 25-hydroxycholecalciferol, the precursor hormone of active 1,25-dihydroxycholecalciferol. We then assessed its impact on cell health, and the expression of the genes and proteins involved in the activation and catabolism of vitamin D at the cellular level by autocrine vitamin D metabolism via the vitamin D metabolizing system (VDMS). Cell health was evaluated by crystal violet and alamarBlue assays, while cell cycle progression and apoptotic cell death markers were assessed by flow cytometry. Gross morphology and ultrastructure were observed using brightfield microscopy and transmission electron microscopy. Gene and protein analyses of the autocrine VDMS were assessed using reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction and Western blot, respectively. Our findings reveal that 25(OH)D3 inhibits cell growth and induces apoptosis in HeLa cervical cells in a dose-dependent manner through the autocrine upregulation of CYP27B1 and VDR. These autocrine effects most likely promote the bioactivation of 25(OH)D3 and intracellular signaling of pro-apoptotic genomic pathways by liganded VDR. Furthermore, the upregulation of CYP24A1 at GI20 treatment likely increases the catabolism of 25(OH)D3 and 1,25(OH)2D3, and therefore may mitigate the anti-cancer action of the high-treatment dose. In summary, 25(OH)D3 holds immense potential as a complementary therapeutic treatment for cervical cancer.

Abstract
Malignant tumors are heterogeneous diseases characterized by uncontrolled cell proliferation, invasion, metastasis, and/or recurrence of their malignancies. In particular, cancer stem cells (CSCs) within these tumors might be responsible for the property of invasiveness and/or therapies-resistance. CSCs are a self-renewing, awfully tumorigenic subpopulation of cancer cells, which are notorious for strong chemoresistance and are frequently responsible the aggravated invasion, metastasis, and/or recurrence. Developing targeting therapies against CSCs, therefore, may be deliberated a more encouraging mission for the greater cancer therapy. Innovation for a more potent anti-CSC treatment has been required as soon as possible. Interestingly, vitamin D could modulate the inflammatory condition of the tumor microenvironment (TME) by successfully affecting CSCs, which has an imperative role in determining the malignant phenotype of CSCs. In addition, vitamin D may also contribute to the regulation of the malignant behaviors of CSCs. Consistently, vitamin D could have potential applications for the significant inhibition of several tumor growths within various cancer therapies. The biological significance of vitamin D for CSCs regulation may be involved in the function of APRO family proteins. Therefore, vitamin D could be one of the innovative therapeutic modalities for the development of novel CSCs related tumor therapies.

Abstract
Background/Objectives: Athonian fasting, a rigorous form of intermittent fasting practiced by Christian Orthodox nuns and a subset of the Mediterranean diet, has known health benefits, but its impact on the interplay of adipokines, inflammatory cytokines, and vitamin D status remains under-investigated. This study aimed to elucidate these relationships within this controlled dietary context. Methods: This cross-sectional study examined the interplay of leptin, interleukin-6 (IL-6), and vitamin D in 41 overweight, vitamin D-sufficient Christian Orthodox nuns practicing Athonian fasting. Anthropometric, biochemical, and inflammatory markers were assessed in the nuns (mean age 53.4 ± 17.1 years, median monastery stay 17 years, median BMI 26.8 kg/m2). Results: Analysis revealed significant positive correlations between age and monastery stay (r = 0.615, p < 0.001), age and visceral fat (ρ = 0.791, p < 0.001), age and IL-6 (ρ = 0.647, p < 0.001), and BMI and IL-6 (ρ = 0.622, p < 0.001). Strong associations existed between adiposity (BMI, body fat, visceral fat), leptin, and IL-6. Specifically, body fat showed substantial positive correlations with visceral fat (ρ = 0.858, p < 0.001), leptin (ρ = 0.538, p < 0.001), and IL-6 (ρ = 0.675, p < 0.001). Visceral fat demonstrated strong positive correlations with leptin (ρ = 0.613, p < 0.001) and IL-6 (ρ = 0.741, p < 0.001). A significant positive correlation was also observed between leptin and IL-6 (ρ = 0.507, p = 0.003). Conversely, a significant negative correlation was found between 25(OH)D and PTH (ρ = -0.380, p = 0.016). Multivariate regression analysis did not reveal independent effects of leptin or IL-6 after adjusting for other factors. Conclusions: This study reveals a complex interplay of adiposity, inflammation, and vitamin D status in this unique population of Orthodox monastery fasters. The strong correlations suggest potential targets for interventions aimed at improving metabolic health. Future research should investigate the effects of vitamin D within the context of Athonian fasting.

Abstract
Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) is a chronic functional gastrointestinal disorder. Despite its common occurrence, the pathophysiology of IBS remains not fully understood. Emerging evidence suggests that IBS is a multifactorial condition characterized by low-grade inflammation, immune system activation, impaired gut permeability, intestinal hypersensitivity, and alterations in intestinal microbiota. Recent data have highlighted the potential role of vitamin D in modulating these underlying mechanisms. Vitamin D is known to influence various cellular processes, including the regulation of the gut microbiome, immune response modulation, and anti-inflammatory effects, which may alleviate the altered gut function observed in IBS. Research indicates that individuals with IBS often have lower levels of vitamin D compared to healthy controls, suggesting a possible link between vitamin D deficiency and IBS. Vitamin D supplementation has been associated with improvements in IBS symptoms, such as bloating, flatulence, abdominal pain, constipation, and overall quality of life. The mechanisms by which vitamin D exerts these effects may involve direct or indirect modulation of immune responses, the production of antimicrobial peptides, and the regulation of gene expression related to serotonergic metabolism. Despite these promising findings, the exact pathways through which vitamin D affects IBS pathophysiology remain unclear. The aim of this review is to outline the current knowledge and evidence regarding these mechanisms, as well as the therapeutic potential of vitamin D supplementation in IBS patients. Exploring the connection between vitamin D and IBS may pave the way for innovative interventions, enhancing both management strategies and the quality of life for those affected by the disorder.

Abstract
Human skin is a physical and biochemical barrier that protects the internal body from the external environment. Throughout a person's life, the skin undergoes both intrinsic and extrinsic aging, leading to microscopic and macroscopic changes in its morphology. In addition, the repair processes slow with aging, making the older population more susceptible to skin diseases. Intrinsic factors associated with advanced age gradually degrade the dermal collagen matrix, resulting in fine wrinkles and reduced elasticity; this is accelerated in post-menopausal women due to estrogen deficiency. In contrast, extrinsic factors associated with advanced age, primarily caused by exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation, lead to coarse wrinkles, solar elastosis, hyperkeratosis, irregular pigmentation, and skin cancers. UVB radiation, while contributing to skin photo-aging, also induces the cutaneous synthesis of vitamin D. Vitamin D, in turn, protects the skin from oxidative stress, inflammation, and DNA damage, thereby delaying both chronological and photo-aging. Moreover, research has demonstrated an association between lower vitamin D levels and a higher prevalence of certain cutaneous diseases. This review explores and summarizes the critical role of vitamin D in skin aging and age-related skin diseases. The data presented highlight the importance of maintaining vitamin D adequacy throughout life.

Abstract
The active metabolite of vitamin D3, calcitriol (1,25D), is widely recognised for its direct anti-proliferative and pro-differentiation effects. However, 1,25D is calcaemic, which restricts its clinical use for cancer treatment. Non-calcaemic agonists of the vitamin D receptor (VDR) could be better candidates for cancer treatment. In this study, we examined the influence of the hydroxylated lithocholic acid derivative CAR-R on osteosarcoma (OS) cell (MG63) growth and differentiation. Treatment of MG63 cells with CAR-R inhibited growth under conventional and hypoxic conditions. Co-treating cells with CAR-R and a lysophosphatidic acid (LPA) analogue resulted in their differentiation, as supported by synergistic increases in alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity. Under hypoxic conditions, however, this differentiation response was attenuated. The importance of observed increases in hypoxia inducible factors (HIFs) were investigated through targeted disruption using pharmacological and genetic approaches. Disruption elicited a reduction in ALP activity, suggesting an important role for HIFs in OS differentiation. Finally, we examined the expression of the VDR protein. Hypoxic MG63s expressed less VDR, with the levels increasing with CAR-R exposure. Whilst these findings are encouraging, future studies aimed at bolstering the pro-differentiating effect of CAR-R under hypoxic conditions are warranted if this agent is to gain traction in the treatment of OS.

Abstract
Background/Objectives: This study explored the association between dairy products consumption (total and subgroups) and cancer of the esophagus, stomach, and pancreas within the PANESOES case-control study. Methods: Data from 1229 participants, including 774 incident cases of cancer and 455 controls matched by age, sex, and region, were analyzed. Dietary intake was assessed using a validated Food Frequency Questionnaire, categorizing dairy intake by total and subgroups (fermented dairy, sugary dairy desserts, and milk). Multinomial logistic regression was used to estimate relative risk ratios (RRRs), adjusting for confounders. Results: We found an inverse association between moderate dairy consumption (T2) and esophageal cancer (RRR T2 vs. T1 = 0.59 (95%CI: 0.37-0.96)). The highest tertile (T3) of fermented dairy was associated with a lower risk of esophageal (RRR T3 vs. T1 = 0.55 (0.33-0.90)) and stomach cancers (RRR T3 vs. T1 = 0.68 (0.47-0.97)). By contrast, the highest tertile of consumption of sugary dairy desserts was associated with a higher risk of stomach cancer (RRR T3 vs. T1 = 1.85 (1.30-2.64)). No association was found for milk. Conclusions: This study suggests that fermented dairy may reduce the risk of esophageal and stomach cancers, while sugary dairy desserts may increase the risk of stomach cancer.

Abstract
The aim of this research was to design and synthesize new lipid conjugates of 7-DHC that could serve as a new storage form of esterified provitamin D3, increasing the reservoir of this biomolecule in the epidermis and enabling controlled production of vitamin D3 even during periods of sunlight deficiency. Acylglycerol and glycerophospholipid containing succinate-linked provitamin D3 at the sn-2 position of the glycerol backbone were synthesized from dihydroxyacetone (DHA) and sn-glycerophosphocholine (GPC), respectively. The three-step synthesis of 1,3-dipalmitoyl-2-(7-dehydrocholesterylsuccinoyl)glycerol involved the esterification of DHA with palmitic acid, reduction of the carbonyl group, and conjugation of the resulting 1,3-dipalmitoylglycerol with 7-dehydrocholesterol hemisuccinate (7-DHC HS). The use of NaBH3CN as a reducing agent was crucial to avoid acyl migration and achieve the final product with 100% regioisomeric purity. For the preparation of 1-palmitoyl-2-(7-dehydrocholesterylsuccinoyl)-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine, a two-step process was applied, involving the esterification of GPC at the sn-1 position with palmitic acid, followed by the conjugation of 1-palmitoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine with 7-DHC HS. Alongside the main product, a small amount of its regioisomer with provitamin D3 linked at the sn-1 position and palmitic acid at the sn-2 position was detected, indicating acyl migration from the sn-1 to the sn-2 position in the intermediate 1-palmitoyl-sn-glycerophosphocholine. The synthesized novel lipids were fully characterized using spectroscopic methods. They can find applications as novel lipid-based prodrugs as additives to sunscreen creams.

Abstract
Significant advancements have been made in cancer therapy; however, limitations remain with some conventional approaches. Adjuvants are agents used alongside primary treatments to enhance their efficacy and the treatment outcomes of patients. Modern lifestyles contribute to deficiencies in melatonin and vitamin D. Limited sun exposure affects vitamin D synthesis, and artificial light at night suppresses melatonin production. Both melatonin and vitamin D possess anti‑inflammatory, immune‑boosting and anticancer properties, rendering them potential adjuvants of interest. Studies suggest melatonin and vitamin D supplementation may address antioxidant imbalances in lip, oral and pharyngeal cancers. Moreover, promising results from breast, head and neck, brain, and osteosarcoma research indicate potential for tumor growth inhibition, improved survival, and a better quality of life of patients with cancer. The radioprotective properties of melatonin and vitamin D are another exciting area of exploration, potentially enhancing radiotherapy effectiveness while reducing side effects. For its part, the sleep‑promoting effects of melatonin may indirectly benefit patients with cancer by influencing the immune system. Thus, the prevalence of vitamin D and melatonin deficiencies highlights the importance of supplementation, as lower levels can worsen side‑effects from cancer treatments. The present review explores the potential of combining melatonin and vitamin D as synergistic adjuvants for cancer therapy. These agents have shown promise individually in cancer prevention and treatment, and their combined effects warrant investigation. Therefore, large‑scale controlled trials are crucial to definitively determine the optimal dosage, safety and efficacy of this combination in improving the lives of patients with cancer.

Abstract
Background There is a significant association between low vitamin D levels at diagnosis of indolent B-cell lymphomas and inferior overall survival (OS). To determine whether supplemental vitamin D improves event-free survival (EFS) in these patients, we conducted a comparative double-blind study of vitamin D3 vs. placebo. Methods In this phase 3, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial, patients with low tumor burden follicular, marginal zone or small lymphocytic lymphoma, age 18 or older, with stage two or greater disease and no prior systemic treatment were enrolled at 7 academic cancer centers. Patients were stratified by histology and FLIPI (Follicular Lymphoma International Prognostic Index) score and randomized 2:1 to receive 2000 IU vitamin D3 or placebo daily beginning on day one with rituximab 375 mg/m2 administered weekly times four. 257 patients were assessed for participation: 24 were not eligible and 22 refused. Patients with stable disease or disease progression at week 13 counted as events; responding patients continued treatment with vitamin D or placebo until progression for up to three years. The primary endpoint was EFS, defined as the time from randomization to lack of response at week 13, initiation of a new treatment, disease progression or death. Secondary endpoints included week 13 response and OS. This trial is registered at clinicaltrials.gov, NCT03078855. Findings 206 evaluable patients (135 on vitamin D and 71 on placebo) were enrolled between September 2017 and March 2022 with a median EFS follow-up of 19.6 months (IQR, 9.3-33.5). The median age was 62 years (IQR, 54-70); 118 (57%) female; 182 (89%) white. At week 13 the mean vitamin D level increased to 41.6 ng/mL (SD 10.1) in the vitamin D arm vs. remaining stable (31.3 ng/mL, SD 11.2) in the placebo arm. There was insufficient evidence of a difference in EFS between the two arms (P = 0.26): three-year EFS in the vitamin D arm was 47.7% (95% CI, 39.0-58.4) compared to 49.5% (95% CI, 37.6-65.0) in the placebo arm. There was no difference in week 13 response between the arms (both 84%). Adverse events associated with vitamin D supplementation were rare. The median OS follow-up was 35.1 months (IQR, 22.9-45.1), overall survival was 96.6% (95% CI, 93.1-98.6) and there was no significant difference between the vitamin D and placebo arms (P = 0.47). Interpretation As tested in this study, there is no benefit to routine vitamin D supplementation in patients with indolent lymphoma treated with rituximab. These results have implications for ongoing and planned studies of vitamin D supplementation in other malignancies. Abstract
Vitamin D status, the vitamin D receptor (VDR), and the ability to produce active vitamin D [1,25(OH)2D, regulated by Cyp27b1] regulate fetal and adult hematopoiesis. Transgenic reporter mice that express the tdTomato RFP as an indication of Vdr expression were used to identify immune cells that express the Vdr. Vdr/tdTomato+ hematopoietic progenitors were identified as early as embryonic day (E)15.5, establishing that these cells have expressed the Vdr and are vitamin D targets. Maternal vitamin D deficiency [D-; serum 25(OH)D < 20 ng/ml] or Vdr knockout or Cyp27b1 knockout resulted in embryos with fewer fetal progenitors. Vdr/tdTomato+ expression was found to increase with age in CD8+ T cells and innate lymphoid cells (ILCs)1 and ILC3, suggesting that initial Vdr expression in these cells is dependent on environmental factors immediately postbirth. In adult tissues, the frequencies of mature T cells and ILCs as well as Vdr/tdTomato expression were reduced by D-. Maternal D- resulted in fewer progenitors that expressed Vdr/tdTomato+ at E15.5 and fewer Vdr/tdTomato+ immune cells in the adult spleen than offspring from D+ mice. We challenged D- mice with H1N1 influenza infection and found that D- mice were more susceptible than D+ mice. Treating D- mice with vitamin D restored Vdr/tdTomato+ expression in splenic T cells and partially restored resistance to H1N1 infection, which shows that developmental D- results in lingering effects on Vdr expression in the adult immune system that compromise the immune response to H1N1 infection. Vitamin D and the Vdr regulate hematopoiesis in both fetal and postnatal phases of immune cell development that impact the immune response to a viral infection.

Abstract
BACKGROUND & AIMS Obesity is associated with vitamin D (VitD) deficiency. However, previous studies showed mixed effects of VitD (25-hydroxyVitD/calcidiol) supplementation on body weight. The biological actions of VitD require the hydroxylation of inactive VitD into active VitD (1.25-dihydroxyVitD/calcitriol). This step is highly regulated; therefore, supplementing with inactive VitD might not be sufficient to overcome the potential adverse health effects of VitD deficiency. The objective of this study was to conduct a systematic review and individual participant data (IPD) meta-analysis of data acquired from randomised placebo-controlled calcitriol trials (RCTs) to determine the effects of calcitriol on body weight and weight-related parameters. METHODS Studies were identified from MEDLINE, EMBASE, and CENTRAL databases up to January 27, 2024, and excluded those involving dialysis or cancer patients. We obtained IPD from eligible trials and assessed bias using the Cochrane Collaboration risk-of-bias tool and methodological quality using the Heyland Methodological Quality Score. The study was prospectively registered with PROSPERO (CRD42017076202). RESULTS Although none of the studies reported information regarding our primary objective, we obtained IPD for 411 patients, with 206 randomised to receive calcitriol and 205 to placebo. This dataset enabled us to conduct an IPD meta-analysis with 17,084 person-months of follow-up (median: 11 months). Meta-analysis showed that calcitriol does not alter body weight, BMI, waist circumference, fat mass or lean body mass compared to placebo. Adjusting for age and sex did not alter the outcomes. CONCLUSIONS In conclusion, this systematic review and IPD meta-analysis indicate that calcitriol does not affect body weight in normal-weight postmenopausal women and lean patients with type 1 diabetes nor in people suffering from obesity, type 2 diabetes and chronic kidney disease. Whether calcitriol lowers body weight in VitD-sufficient people with obesity remains to be elucidated.

Abstract
A retrospective analysis was performed to evaluate the frequency of vitamin D blood testing in individuals from the Padua province, Veneto, Italy from 2005 to 2016. A significant increase in the frequency of vitamin D blood tests, particularly in females was observed and in individuals with severe vitamin D deficiency (Class I). PURPOSE Vitamin D deficiency has been linked to negative health outcomes that extend beyond bone-related conditions. The frequency of vitamin D blood testing in residents from the Padua province, (Veneto, Italy) from 2005 to 2016 was evaluated. METHODS Data were retrospectively retrieved from blood test databases (Laboratory Medicine Unit, Padua University Hospital) and information on number of vitamin D blood tests performed on residents from 2005 to 2016 was collected. Data were stratified by sex and ten birth cohorts from 1901 to 2016. Blood tests were classified into five vitamin D classes: I < 50 nmol/L, II 50-74.9 nmol/L, III 75-149 nmol/L, IV 150-250 nmol/L, and V > 250-1000 nmol/L. Blood test trends were analyzed as blood test rate and vitamin D class rate/resident population. Population analysis was analyzed by incidence rates and stratified by vitamin D class. RESULTS 293,013 vitamin D blood tests were conducted between 2005 and 2016 across 10 birth cohorts. Females accounted for 75% of tests and fewer were conducted in the youngest and oldest birth cohorts. Sex differences in vitamin D blood test frequency were observed; adjusted rates ranging from 1.7 to 35.6% for males and 8 to 81% for females from 2005 to 2016. Crude incidence rates (per 1000 from 2005 to 2016) varied from 1.5 to 10.8‰ for males and 7 to 19.4‰ for females. Crude blood test rates for vitamin D deficiency (Class I) increased from 1.1 to 9.9‰ in 2016 for males and 5 to 17.3‰ for females. Crude incidence rates (from 2005 to 2016) for Class I were 9.7-57.1‰ in males and 43.6-92.4‰ in females. CONCLUSIONS These findings highlight sex-related differences in vitamin D testing, providing valuable insight for healthcare planning.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Invasive ductal carcinoma (IDC) is one of the most commonly diagnosed subtypes of breast cancer, representing the majority of breast cancer cases. This study investigates the levels of vitamin D, folic acid, and antioxidant minerals (zinc (Zn), copper (Cu), and magnesium (Mg)) in IDC patients across different disease stages to explore their potential roles in disease progression. METHODS We analyzed a cohort of 150 female patients with IDC, aged between 30 and 67 years (51 ± 15.5 years). Blood samples were collected to measure levels of vitamin D, folic acid, Cu, Mg, and Zn. Patients were categorized into Stage 1 to Stage 4 of cancer. Variations in nutrient levels across these stages were statistically assessed using ANOVA and post-hoc tests. RESULTS The study results revealed varying levels of key nutrients across different stages of the disease. Vitamin D levels averaged 17.7 ng/mL, with higher concentrations in early-stage patients, indicating a possible correlation with disease severity. Folic acid levels had a mean of 12.2 ng/mL, showing a decline in later stages, potentially linking it to cancer progression. Copper levels averaged 161.3μg/dL, peaking at 170μg/dL in Stage 3, suggesting a connection with cancer aggressiveness. Magnesium levels, with an average of 1.4 mg/dL, dropped notably to 0.6 mg/dL by Stage 4, highlighting its possible involvement in disease progression. Zinc levels averaged 69.4 μg/dL, with a significant decrease in advanced stages, emphasizing its importance for immune function and cellular health. CONCLUSION The study demonstrates significant variations in the levels of vitamin D, folic acid, and antioxidant minerals across different stages of IDC. These nutrients may influence cancer progression, underscoring the potential benefits of nutritional assessments and interventions in managing IDC.

Abstract
The preventability of acute lymphocytic leukemia during childhood is currently receiving great attention, as it is one of the most common cancers in children. Among the known risk factors so far are those affecting the development of gut microbiota, such as a short duration or absence of breastfeeding, cesarean section, a diet lacking in short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs), the use of antibiotics, absence of infection during infancy, and lack of pets, among other factors. Namely, it has been shown that iron deficiency anemia (IDA) and lack of vitamin D may cause intestinal dysbiosis, while at the same time, both increase the risk of hematological malignancies. The presence of IDA and vitamin D deficiency have been shown to lead to a decreased proportion of Firmicutes in stool, which could, as a consequence, lead to a deficit of butyrate. Moreover, children with IDA have increased blood concentrations of cadmium, which induces systemic inflammation and is linked to the onset of an inflammatory microenvironment in the bone marrow. Finally, IDA and Cd exposure increase fibroblast growth factor 23 (FGF23) blood levels, which in turn suppresses vitamin D synthesis. A lack of vitamin D has been associated with a higher risk of ALL onset. In brief, as presented in this review, there are three independent ways in which IDA increases the risk of acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL) appearance. These are: intestinal dysbiosis, disruption of vitamin D synthesis, and an increased Cd load, which has been linked to systemic inflammation. All of the aforementioned factors could generate the appearance of a second mutation, such as ETV6/RUNX1 (TEL-AML), leading to mutation homozygosity and the onset of disease. ALL has been observed in both IDA and thalassemia. However, as IDA is the most common type of anemia and the majority of published data pertains to it, we will focus on IDA in this review.

Abstract
The exploration of targeted therapy has proven to be a highly promising avenue in the realm of drug development research. The human body generates a substantial amount of free radicals during metabolic processes, and if not promptly eliminated, these free radicals can lead to oxidative stress, disrupting homeostasis and potentially contributing to chronic diseases and cancers. Before the development of contemporary medicine with synthetic pharmaceuticals and antioxidants, there was a long-standing practice of employing raw, natural ingredients to cure a variety of illnesses. This practice persisted even after the active antioxidant molecules were known. The ability of natural antioxidants to neutralise excess free radicals in the human body and so prevent and cure a wide range of illnesses. The term "natural antioxidant" refers to compounds derived from plants or other living organisms that have the ability to control the production of free radicals, scavenge them, stop free radical-mediated chain reactions, and prevent lipid peroxidation. These compounds have a strong potential to inhibit oxidative stress. Phytochemicals (antioxidants) derived from plants, such as polyphenols, carotenoids, vitamins, and others, are central to the discussion of natural antioxidants. Not only may these chemicals increase endogenous antioxidant defenses, affect communication cascades, and control gene expression, but they have also shown strong free radical scavenging properties. This study comprehensively summarizes the primary classes of natural antioxidants found in different plant and animal source that contribute to the prevention and treatment of diseases. Additionally, it outlines the research progress and outlines future development prospects. These discoveries not only establish a theoretical groundwork for pharmacological development but also present inventive ideas for addressing challenges in medical treatment.

Abstract
Nanotechnology, now established as a transformative technology, has revolutionized medicine by enabling highly targeted drug delivery. The use of organic nanocarriers in drug delivery systems significantly enhances the bioavailability of vitamins and their analogs, thereby improving cellular delivery and therapeutic effects. Vitamin D, known for its crucial role in bone health, also influences various metabolic functions, such as cellular proliferation, differentiation, and immunomodulation, and is increasingly explored for its anticancer potential. Given its versatile properties and biocompatibility, vitamin D is an attractive candidate for encapsulation within drug delivery systems. This review provides a comprehensive overview of vitamin D synthesis, metabolism, and signaling, as well as its applications in customized drug delivery. Moreover, it examines the design and engineering of organic nanocarriers that incorporate vitamin D and discusses advances in this field, including the synergistic effects achieved through the combination of vitamin D with other therapeutic agents. By highlighting these innovations, this review provides valuable insights into the development of advanced drug delivery systems and their potential to enhance therapeutic outcomes.

Abstract
Evidence is increasing that vitamin D and CYP11A1-derived vitamin D, tachysterol, and lumisterol metabolites play a significant antioxidant role beyond its classical functions in bone health and calcium metabolism. Several recent studies have linked these elements to reduced oxidative stress as well as improved immune, cardiovascular, and neurological functions as a result of chronic kidney disease and cancer. Additionally, supplementation with this vitamin has been shown to be one of the most cost-effective micronutrient interventions worldwide, highlighting its potential as a therapeutic approach. The underlying mechanisms and implications of this antioxidant function of vitamin D or CYP11A1-derived vitamin D, tachysterol, and lumisterol metabolites are not well understood. This comprehensive and narrative review is aimed at summarizing the current evidence regarding the molecular mechanisms implicated in this antioxidant function of vitamin D, as well as to provide a general overview and to identify key research areas for the future, offering an extensive perspective that can guide both researchers and clinicians in the management of diseases associated with oxidative stress and/or insufficient vitamin D status.

Abstract
Objective To evaluate the risk factors for postoperative incision infection in colorectal cancer, this meta-analysis aimed to identify key variables impacting infection incidence following colorectal cancer surgery. Methods Utilizing a meta-analytical approach, studies published from January 2015 to December 2022 were systematically collected and analyzed through the assessment of factors like body mass index, diabetes, albumin levels, malnutrition, and surgical duration. Results The meta-analysis of eleven high-quality studies revealed that elevated BMI, diabetes, low albumin levels, malnutrition, and extended surgical duration were associated with increased infection risk, while laparoscopic procedures showed potential for risk reduction. Conclusions This study underscores the significance of preoperative risk assessment and management in mitigating postoperative incision infections in colorectal cancer patients. The findings present actionable insights for clinicians to enhance patient prognoses and overall quality of life.

Abstract
BACKGROUND 1,25(OH)2D3 is a fat-soluble vitamin, involved in regulating Ca2+ homeostasis in the body. Its storage in adipose tissue depends on the fat content of the body. Obesity is the result of abnormal lipid deposition due to the prolonged positive energy balance and increases the risk of several cancer types. Furthermore, it has been associated with vitamin D deficiency and defined as a low 25(OH)2D3 blood level. In addition, 1,25(OH)2D3 plays vital roles in Ca2+-Pi and glucose metabolism in the adipocytes of obese individuals and regulates the expressions of adipogenesis-associated genes in mature adipocytes. SCOPE AND APPROACH The present contribution focused on the VDR mediated mechanisms interconnecting the obese condition and cancer proliferation due to 1,25(OH)2D3-deficiency in humans. This contribution also summarizes the identification and development of molecular targets for VDR-targeted drug discovery. KEY FINDINGS AND CONCLUSIONS Several studies have revealed that cancer development in a background of 1,25(OH)2D3 deficient obesity involves the VDR gene. Moreover, 1,25(OH)2D3 is also known to influence several cellular processes, including differentiation, proliferation, and adhesion. The multifaceted physiology of obesity has improved our understanding of the cancer therapeutic targets. However, currently available anti-cancer drugs are notorious for their side effects, which have raised safety issues. Thus, there is interest in developing 1,25(OH)2D3-based therapies without any side effects.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Little information exists about vitamin D status in bitches with mammary tumors. OBJECTIVES To determine whether low plasma vitamin D concentrations are found in bitches with mammary tumors. ANIMALS Eighty-five client-owned bitches with mammary tumors (n = 21 benign, n = 64 malignant) and 39 age-matched healthy bitches. METHODS Case-control study. Plasma ionized and total calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, urea, creatinine, albumin, total proteins, alanine aminotransferase, alkaline phosphatase, parathyroid hormone (PTH), calcitriol (1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D), and 25-hydroxyvitamin D concentrations were measured in all bitches at the time of clinical diagnosis and before any treatments. Statistical analysis was performed to compare variables among groups (control, benign, and malignant). RESULTS No significant differences were found when plasma 25-hydroxyvitamin D concentrations in bitches with malignant (148.9 [59.9] ng/mL) and benign mammary tumors (150.1 [122.3] ng/mL) were compared with control group (129.9 [54.5] ng/mL). Parathyroid hormone was significantly higher in bitches with malignant (19.9 [20.5] pg/mL), and benign mammary tumors (14.6 [14.9] pg/mL) compared with control group (7.5 [7.5] pg/mL; P < .01). Only the presence of mammary tumors (P < .01) and age (P = .04; adjusted R2 = .22) was significant in predicting PTH. CONCLUSIONS Bitches with mammary tumors do not have low 25-hydroxyvitamin D concentrations thus vitamin D supplementation is unlikely to be useful for prevention of mammary tumors in bitches.

Abstract
Natural Health Products (NHPs) have long been considered a valuable therapeutic approach for the prevention and treatment of various diseases, including cancer. However, research on this topic has led to inconclusive and often controversial results. This review aims to provide a comprehensive update of the effects and mechanisms related to the use of NHPs, to describe the results of randomized clinical trials (RCTs) on their effects in cancer patients, and to critically discuss factors influencing clinical outcomes. RCTs available in the literature, even those studying the same NHP, are very heterogeneous in terms of indications, doses, route and timing of administration, and outcomes evaluated. Silymarin, ginsenoside, and vitamin E appear to be useful in attenuating adverse events related to radiotherapy or chemotherapy, and curcumin and lycopene might provide some benefit in patients with prostate cancer. Most RCTs have not clarified whether NHP supplementation provides any real benefit, while harmful effects have been shown in some cases. Overall, the available data suggest that although there is some evidence to support the benefits of NHPs in the management of cancer patients, further clinical trials with the same design are needed before their introduction into clinical practice can be considered.

Abstract
Uterine fibroids are the most common tumors in females affecting up to 70% of women world-wide, yet targeted therapeutic options are limited. Oxidative stress has recently surfaced as a key driver of fibroid pathogenesis and provides insights into hypoxia-induced cell transformation, extracellular matrix pathophysiology, hypoxic cell signaling cascades, and uterine biology. Hypoxia drives fibroid tumorigenesis through (1) promoting myometrial stem cell proliferation, (2) causing DNA damage propelling transformation of stem cells to tumor initiating cells, and (3) driving excess extracellular matrix (ECM) production. Common fibroid-associated DNA mutations include MED12 mutations, HMGA2 overexpression, and Fumarate hydratase loss of function. Evidence suggests an interaction between hypoxia signaling and these mutations. Fibroid development and growth are promoted by hypoxia-triggered cell signaling via various pathways including HIF-1, TGFβ, and Wnt/β-catenin. Fibroid-associated hypoxia persists due to antioxidant imbalance, ECM accumulation, and growth beyond adequate vascular supply. Current clinically available fibroid treatments do not take advantage of hypoxia-targeting therapies. Growing pre-clinical and clinical studies identify ROS inhibitors, anti-HIF-1 agents, Wnt/β-catenin inhibition, and TGFβ cascade inhibitors as agents that may reduce fibroid development and growth through targeting hypoxia.

Abstract
Vitamin D, an essential micronutrient crucial for skeletal integrity and various non-skeletal physiological functions, exhibits limited bioavailability and stability in vivo. This study is focused on the development of polyethylene glycol (PEG)-grafted phospholipid micellar nanostructures co-encapsulating vitamin D3 and conjugated with alendronic acid, aimed at active bone targeting. Furthermore, these nanostructures are rendered optically traceable in the UV-visible region of the electromagnetic spectrum via the simultaneous encapsulation of vitamin D3 with carbon dots, a newly emerging class of fluorescents, biocompatible nanoparticles characterized by their resistance to photobleaching and environmental friendliness, which hold promise for future in vitro bioimaging studies. A systematic investigation is conducted to optimize experimental parameters for the preparation of micellar nanostructures with an average hydrodynamic diameter below 200 nm, ensuring colloidal stability in physiological media while preserving the optical luminescent properties of the encapsulated carbon dots. Comprehensive chemical-physical characterization of these micellar nanostructures is performed employing optical and morphological techniques. Furthermore, their binding affinity for the principal inorganic constituent of bone tissue is assessed through a binding assay with hydroxyapatite nanoparticles, indicating significant potential for active bone-targeting. These formulated nanostructures hold promise for novel therapeutic interventions to address skeletal-related complications in cancer affected patients in the future.

Abstract
Clinical and preclinical studies have provided conflicting data on the postulated beneficial effects of vitamin D in patients with prostate cancer. In this opinion piece, we discuss reasons for discrepancies between preclinical and clinical vitamin D studies. Different criteria have been used as evidence for the key roles of vitamin D. Clinical studies report integrative cancer outcome criteria such as incidence and mortality in relation to vitamin D status over time. In contrast, preclinical vitamin D studies report molecular and cellular changes resulting from treatment with the biologically active vitamin D metabolite, 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 (calcitriol) in tissues. However, these reported changes in preclinical in vitro studies are often the result of treatment with biologically irrelevant high calcitriol concentrations. In typical experiments, the used calcitriol concentrations exceed the calcitriol concentrations in normal and malignant prostate tissue by 100 to 1000 times. This raises reasonable concerns regarding the postulated biological effects and mechanisms of these preclinical vitamin D approaches in relation to clinical relevance. This is not restricted to prostate cancer, as detailed data regarding the tissue-specific concentrations of vitamin D metabolites are currently lacking. The application of unnaturally high concentrations of calcitriol in preclinical studies appears to be a major reason why the results of preclinical in vitro studies hardly match up with outcomes of vitamin D-related clinical studies. Regarding future studies addressing these concerns, we suggest establishing reference ranges of tissue-specific vitamin D metabolites within various cancer entities, carrying out model studies on human cancer cells and patient-derived organoids with biologically relevant calcitriol concentrations, and lastly improving the design of vitamin D clinical trials where results from preclinical studies guide the protocols and endpoints within these trials.

Abstract
Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers worldwide, at the same time being one of the most prevalent causes of women's death. Many factors such as alcohol, weight fluctuations, or hormonal replacement therapy can potentially contribute to breast cancer development and progression. Another important factor in breast cancer onset includes micronutrient status. In this narrative review, we analyzed 23 micronutrients and their possible influence on breast cancer onset and progression. Further, the aim of this study was to investigate the impact of micronutrient status on the prevention of breast cancer and its possible influence on various therapeutic pathways. We researched meta-analyses, systemic and narrative reviews, retrospective studies, as well as original studies on human and animal models. The results of these studies indicate a possible correlation between the different levels of micronutrients and a decreased risk of breast cancer as well as a better survival rate. However, further studies are necessary to establish adequate doses of supplementation of the chosen micronutrients and the exact mechanisms of micronutrient impact on breast cancer therapy.

Abstract
Poor bone health is a significant contributing factor to the frequency and severity of many childhood injuries and fractures. Osteoporosis starts in childhood. Therefore, it is important to optimize bone health in children in order to decrease the risk of injury, improve healing, and maximize peak bone mass. To do this, pediatricians and pediatric orthopedists need to effectively counsel patients and families to give them the tools necessary to effect lasting change. Bone health is a recipe that requires ingredients including calcium, vitamin D, vitamin C, vitamin K, and physical exercise. Required amounts of each component change as children grow and are lifelong requirements. Unfortunately, at this time, there is no uniform consensus on vitamin D supplementation guidelines or optimal serum levels. Current vitamin D dosing guidelines are age-based, but vitamin D is stored in adipose tissue and higher weights/body mass index (BMI) require higher doses of vitamin D to achieve and maintain adequate serum levels. Routine monitoring of vitamin D is recommended in all patients. However, re-evaluating the dosing guidelines to base them on weight/BMI, rather than age, should be considered. Key Concepts (1)Bone health needs to be prioritized from a young age because the majority of peak bone mass is attained by the end of the second decade of life.(2)Patient counseling and patient buy-in are imperative to create lasting impact.(3)Bone health is a recipe and the amounts of ingredients needed will vary according to growth and body size.(4)Vitamin D dosing should take weight and body mass into consideration to achieve optimal serum levels.

Abstract
Due to the high mortality rate in Western countries, pancreatic cancer is considered one of the big killers, leaving patients and their families with little hope upon diagnosis. Although surgical and drug therapies are critical for cancer patients to improve life expectancy and alleviation of suffering, nutrition plays a key role in improving cancer treatment outcomes. This narrative review, conducted as part of the activities of the Italian Society of Human Nutrition (SINU) working group in oncology, focuses on the prevalence of vitamin malnutrition among pancreatic cancer patients. The results of the literature search show that pancreatic cancer patients are at a heightened risk of water-soluble vitamin deficiencies, particularly of vitamins B1, B3, and B6. Additionally, they also face an increased risk of deficiency of fat-soluble vitamins. Among these vitamins, the potential role of vitamin D in pancreatic cancer has garnered the most attention, with its plasma levels being identified as a significant factor in patient survival. Investigating vitamin nutritional status could provide valuable insights for incorporating nutritional approaches into the prevention and treatment of pancreatic cancer, thereby reducing the exacerbation of symptoms associated with the diagnosis.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Vitamin D deficiency is prevalent among the Indonesian population, particularly in individuals diagnosed with leukemia-lymphoma. The regulation of vitamin D metabolism is influenced by the expression of several enzymes, such as CYP2R1, CYP24A1, and the vitamin D receptor (VDR). This study aimed to scrutinize the gene expression profiles in both mRNA and protein levels of VDR, CYP2R1, and CYP24A1 in leukemia and lymphoma patients. METHOD The research was a cross-sectional study conducted at Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital (RSCM) in Jakarta, Indonesia. The study included a total of 45 patients aged over 18 years old who have received a diagnosis of lymphoma or leukemia. Vitamin D status was measured by examining serum 25 (OH) D levels. The analysis of VDR, CYP2R1, and CYP24A1 mRNA expression utilized the qRT-PCR method, while protein levels were measured through the ELISA method. CONCLUSION The study revealed a noteworthy difference in VDR protein levels between men and women. The highest mean CYP24A1 protein levels were observed in the age group > 60 years. This study found a significant, moderately positive correlation between VDR protein levels and CYP24A1 protein levels in the male and vitamin D sufficiency groups. In addition, a significant positive correlation was found between VDR mRNA levels and CYP2R1 mRNA levels, VDR mRNA levels and CYP2R1 mRNA levels, and CYP2R1 mRNA levels and CYP24A1 mRNA levels. However, the expression of these genes does not correlate with the protein levels of its mRNA translation products in blood circulation.

Abstract
Pancreatic cancer is currently the seventh leading cause of cancer death worldwide. Understanding whether modifiable factors increase or decrease the risk of this disease is central to facilitating primary prevention. Several epidemiological studies have described the benefits of physical activity, and the risks associated with sedentary behavior, in relation to cancer. This study aimed to assess evidence of causal effects of physical activity and sedentary behavior on pancreatic cancer risk. We conducted a two-sample Mendelian randomization study using publicly available data for genetic variants associated with physical activity and sedentary behavior traits and genetic data from the Pancreatic Cancer Cohort Consortium (PanScan), the Pancreatic Cancer Case-Control Consortium (PanC4), and the FinnGen study for a total of 10 018 pancreatic cancer cases and 266 638 controls. We also investigated the role of body mass index (BMI) as a possible mediator between physical activity and sedentary traits and risk of developing pancreatic cancer. We found evidence of a causal association between genetically determined hours spent watching television (hours per day) and increased risk of pancreatic cancer for each hour increment (PanScan-PanC4 odds ratio = 1.52, 95% confidence interval 1.17-1.98, P = .002). Additionally, mediation analysis showed that genetically determined television-watching time was strongly associated with BMI, and the estimated proportion of the effect of television-watching time on pancreatic cancer risk mediated by BMI was 54%. This study reports the first Mendelian randomization-based evidence of a causal association between a measure of sedentary behavior (television-watching time) and risk of pancreatic cancer and that this is strongly mediated by BMI. Summary: Pancreatic cancer is a deadly disease that is predicted to become the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths by 2030. Physical activity and sedentary behaviors have been linked to cancer risk and survival. However, there is limited research on their correlation with pancreatic cancer. To investigate this, we used a Mendelian randomization approach to examine the genetic predisposition to physical activity and sedentariness and their relation to pancreatic cancer risk, while excluding external confounders. Our findings revealed a causal link between the time spent watching television and an increased risk of pancreatic cancer. Additionally, we determined that over half of the effect of watching television on pancreatic risk is mediated by the individual's BMI.

Abstract
Introduction Low vitamin D levels have been associated more with overweight and obese people in previous studies. One of the possible explanations behind this association is the lipophilic property of vitamin D that causes the vitamin to deposit in adipose tissue and reduces the serum concentration of the vitamin, which still warrants further evaluation. Objective This study estimated the association between serum vitamin D levels and body mass index (BMI) among male patients in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Methods This is a cross-sectional study of male patients that was carried out in King Khalid Hospital, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Patients were included between October 2019 and November 2020. Results We concluded that almost half of the patients, 1,132 (48.3%), had adequate vitamin D, followed by 773 (33%) with vitamin D inadequacy, and only 288 (12.3%) had vitamin D deficiency. There was a significant relationship between age and vitamin D levels; younger people had lower vitamin D levels compared to older people (p<0.001). It was found that there was no significant relationship between BMI categories and vitamin D levels (p>0.05). Conclusion According to the findings of the current study, there was no discernible relationship between serum vitamin D levels and BMI. However, there was a substantial correlation between age and vitamin D levels, with younger age groups having lower amounts than older individuals. Future studies should adopt a prospective design encompassing multiple centers and preferably include the risk factors for developing vitamin D deficiency, such as sun exposure, dietary habits, comorbidities, etc. Such studies can provide a more accurate assessment of the association between BMI and vitamin D levels.
