Abstract
Uric acid (UA) levels in blood serum have been associated with hypertension, indicating a potential causal relationship between high serum UA levels and the progression of hypertension. Therefore, the reduction of serum UA level is considered a potential strategy for lowering and mitigating blood pressure. If an individual is at risk of developing or already manifesting elevated blood pressure, this intervention could be an integral part of a comprehensive treatment plan. By addressing hyperuricaemia, practitioners may subsidize the optimization of blood pressure regulation, which illustrates the importance of addressing UA levels as a valuable strategy within the broader context of hypertension management. In this analysis, we outlined the operational principles of effective xanthine oxidase inhibitors for the treatment of hyperuricaemia and hypertension, along with an exploration of the contribution of nanotechnology to this field.

Abstract
The present study conducted metabolomics profiling (targeted and untargeted) in the roots of two wheat varieties (BARANI-70 and NARC-09) under arsenate stress in a hydroponic experiment. The findings indicated a better growth response of BARANI-70 compared to the NARC-09. From amino acid profiling, a total of 26 amino acids (AAs) were quantified in roots. BARANI-70 showed higher induction of stress-responsive AAs compared to the NARC-09. From untargeted metabolomics, a total of 136 metabolites were identified: AAs, fatty acids, purines, carnitines, LysoPCs, and others. The KEGG pathway identified pathways such as linoleic acid metabolism, TCA cycle, glutathione metabolism, and aminoacyl-tRNA biosynthesis that were regulated to improve the defense of tolerant variety. BARANI-70 emerged as a tolerant variety based on the psychological response, As accumulation, and behavior of stress-responsive metabolites. This study should facilitate the breeding of low-As accumulating wheat varieties for future application to ensure sustainable production and food safety.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Telomeres form repeated DNA sequences at the ends of chromosomes, which shorten with each cell division. Yet, factors modulating telomere attrition and the health consequences thereof are not fully understood. To address this, we leveraged data from 326,363 unrelated UK Biobank participants of European ancestry. RESULTS Using linear regression and bidirectional univariable and multivariable Mendelian randomization (MR), we elucidate the relationships between leukocyte telomere length (LTL) and 142 complex traits, including diseases, biomarkers, and lifestyle factors. We confirm that telomeres shorten with age and show a stronger decline in males than in females, with these factors contributing to the majority of the 5.4% of LTL variance explained by the phenome. MR reveals 23 traits modulating LTL. Smoking cessation and high educational attainment associate with longer LTL, while weekly alcohol intake, body mass index, urate levels, and female reproductive events, such as childbirth, associate with shorter LTL. We also identify 24 traits affected by LTL, with risk for cardiovascular, pulmonary, and some autoimmune diseases being increased by short LTL, while longer LTL increased risk for other autoimmune conditions and cancers. Through multivariable MR, we show that LTL may partially mediate the impact of educational attainment, body mass index, and female age at childbirth on proxied lifespan. CONCLUSIONS Our study sheds light on the modulators, consequences, and the mediatory role of telomeres, portraying an intricate relationship between LTL, diseases, lifestyle, and socio-economic factors.

Abstract
Purpose The association between serum uric acid (SUA) and atrial fibrillation (AF) has been widely focused on and studied in recent years. However, the exact association between SUA and AF is unclear, and the effect of gender on the association between SUA levels and AF has been controversial. This study aimed to investigate the association between SUA levels and non-valvular AF (NVAF) and the potential effect of gender on it. Patients and Methods A total of 866 NVAF patients (463 males, age 69.44 ± 8.07 years) and 646 sex-matched control patients in sinus rhythm, with no history of arrhythmia were included in this study. t-test, ANOVA, and chi-square test were used for baseline data analysis. The receiver operating characteristic curve, logistic regression and Pearson correlation analysis were used for correlation analysis. Results Compared to controls, NVAF patients exhibited higher SUA (P<0.001). After adjusting for confounders of NVAF, SUA remained significantly associated with NVAF, regardless of gender (OR= 1.31, 95% CI 1.18-1.43, P<0.001). SUA demonstrated higher predictability and sensitivity in predicting the occurrence of female NVAF compared to male (area under the curve was 0.68 (95% CI 0.64-0.72, P<0.001), sensitivity 87.3%), with the optimal cut-off point identified as 5.72 mg/dL. Furthermore, SUA levels correlated with APOA1, Scr and NT-proBNP in NVAF patients. SUA levels varied significantly among NVAF subtypes. Conclusion High SUA levels were independently associated with NVAF, regardless of gender. SUA exhibited higher predictability and sensitivity in predicting the occurrence of NVAF in females compared to males. High SUA levels may affect other NVAF-related factors and participate in the pathophysiological process of NVAF.

Abstract
Accumulating evidence suggests that dietary fructose may play a role in the hyperuricaemia development, but the precise mechanism remains unclear. Hyperuricaemia is characterised by excessive production and deposition of urate crystals, and the metabolism of fructose has been implicated in the elevation of serum urate levels. The association between fructose intake and the risk of hyperuricaemia is explained by the metabolism of fructose in the liver, small intestine, and kidney. Many studies have confirmed the correlation between fructose consumption and an increased risk of developing hyperuricaemia, but more prospective studies to fully elucidate the role of fructose intake in the pathogenesis of hyperuricaemia are needed. It is important to note that maintaining a balanced diet, and lifestyle is crucial when considering fructose intake. Limiting the consumption of products high in added sugars and maintaining a healthy weight can contribute to reducing the risk of hyperuricaemia and associated health complications.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Evidence regarding the efficacy of a low-protein diet for patients with CKD is inconsistent and recommending a low-protein diet for pediatric patients is controversial. There is also a lack of objective biomarkers of dietary intake. The purpose of this study was to identify plasma metabolites associated with dietary intake of protein and to assess whether protein-related metabolites are associated with CKD progression. METHODS Nontargeted metabolomics was conducted in plasma samples from 484 Chronic Kidney Disease in Children (CKiD) participants. Multivariable linear regression estimated the cross-sectional association between 949 known, nondrug metabolites and dietary intake of total protein, animal protein, plant protein, chicken, dairy, nuts and beans, red and processed meat, fish, and eggs, adjusting for demographic, clinical, and dietary covariates. Cox proportional hazards models assessed the prospective association between protein-related metabolites and CKD progression defined as the initiation of kidney replacement therapy or 50% eGFR reduction, adjusting for demographic and clinical covariates. RESULTS One hundred and twenty-seven (26%) children experienced CKD progression during 5 years of follow-up. Sixty metabolites were significantly associated with dietary protein intake. Among the 60 metabolites, 10 metabolites were significantly associated with CKD progression (animal protein: n = 1, dairy: n = 7, red and processed meat: n = 2, nuts and beans: n = 1), including one amino acid, one cofactor and vitamin, 4 lipids, 2 nucleotides, one peptide, and one xenobiotic. 1-(1-enyl-palmitoyl)-2-oleoyl-glycerophosphoethanolamine (GPE, P-16:0/18:1) was positively associated with dietary intake of red and processed meat, and a doubling of its abundance was associated with 88% higher risk of CKD progression. 3-ureidopropionate was inversely associated with dietary intake of red and processed meat, and a doubling of its abundance was associated with 48% lower risk of CKD progression. CONCLUSIONS Untargeted plasma metabolomic profiling revealed metabolites associated with dietary intake of protein and CKD progression in a pediatric population.

Abstract
Background and Purpose The role of serum uric acid (UA) level in patients suffering from stroke remains controversial. Our aim was to investigate the effect of UA level on clinical outcomes in patients with intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH). Methods In the retrospective cohort study, we analyzed data from 250 patients with intracerebral hemorrhage (85 women and 165 men) to investigate the difference in UA levels between patients with a good prognosis and those with a poor prognosis. Additionally, we analyzed the impact of UA levels on the risk of short-time prognosis of ICH patients. Results Patients with a good prognosis presented with significantly lower levels of UA (348.71 ± 84.97 μmol/L) than those with poor prognosis (393.06 ± 148.46 μmol/L). Furthermore, multivariate logistic regression model demonstrated that a high UA level was a likely risk factor for worse prognosis among patients suffering in ICH (odds ratio [95% confidence interval], 1.006 [1.0012, 1.0108]; P = 0.015). Additionally, UA has a threshold effect value of 363.9 μmol/L and was presented in levels that were in a nonlinear relationship with incidence rate of short-time prognosis outcome of ICH patients. Conclusion Our findings indicate that higher UA levels can increase the risk of poor clinical prognosis in patients with ICH and high UA levels are not conductive to the clinical prognosis of patients with ICH. These findings provide a new perspective on the treatment and prevention of ICH.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Both hyperuricaemia and chronic kidney disease are known mortality risk factors. This study examined the modifying effect of renal function on hyperuricaemia-associated mortality risk, which is an issue that has not been studied before. METHODS Data on levels of serum uric acid (SUA), creatinine, cystatin C and other variables of persons aged 52-76 years were collected. Persons with SUA >410 μmol/L (75th percentile) were classified as clearly hyperuricaemic and persons with eGFR of ≤67 ml/min (25th percentile) as having reduced kidney function. RESULTS Reduced kidney function was associated with higher mortality in both SUA groups. When compared to individuals with SUA ≤410 μmol/L and eGFR >67 ml/min the hazard ratio (HR) for all-cause mortality was 1.53 (95 % CI: 1.26-1.84) in clearly hyperuricaemic persons with reduced kidney function, 1.26 (95 % CI: 1.02-1.55) in clearly hyperuricaemic persons with eGFR of >67 ml/min and 1.15 (95 % CI: 0.96-1.39) in persons with SUA ≤410 μmol/L and reduced kidney function. The HR for hyperuricaemia-related premature death was lowest in individuals with reduced eGFR, and it rose strikingly as the eGFR increased above 90 ml/min. CONCLUSIONS Reduced kidney function is a risk factor for mortality both in individuals with normal and elevated SUA. The hyperuricaemia-associated mortality risk is remarkably higher in individuals with normal kidney function than in individuals with reduced kidney function. Presumably overproduction of uric acid (metabolic hyperuricaemia) is a separate and more deleterious entity than hyperuricaemia resulting from reduced renal excretion of uric acid (renal hyperuricaemia).

Abstract
Hyperuricemia is associated with kidney function decline (KFD), although whether hyperuricemia directly causes nephrotoxicity or is indirectly mediated by systemic arterial stiffening remains unclear. We examined the detailed relationship of serum uric acid (SUA) with KFD and potential mediation by arterial stiffness. Study population was 27,648 urban residents with an estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) of ≥60 mL/min/1.73 m2 at baseline, and they participated in a median of three consecutive annual health examinations. Arterial stiffness was assessed using cardio-ankle vascular index (CAVI). KFD was defined as a decrease in eGFR to below 60. Multivariate analysis showed an association between baseline SUA and CAVI independent of eGFR. During the study period, 6.6% of participants developed KFD. Stratified analysis revealed a linear relationship between the contribution of CAVI or SUA and KFD. ROC analysis determined a cutoff CAVI of 8.0 (males) or 7.9 (females) and a cutoff SUA of 6.3 (males) or 4.5 mg/dL (females) for predicting KFD. The linkage between SUA and CAVI was associated with a greater increase in the hazard ratio for KFD with an increase in SUA. CAVI showed the mediating effect on the relationship of SUA with KFD after an adjustment for confounders. SUA was associated positively with CAVI-mediated KFD. Further studies should verify whether intensive SUA-lowering treatment prevents KFD via improving vascular function.

Abstract
BACKGROUND We aimed to investigate the interaction between serum uric acid (SUA) levels with estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) to low muscle strength (LMS) among older people in China. METHODS Cohort data were obtained from China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS) in 2011 and 2015. A total of 2,822 community-dwelling adults aged 60 and above were enrolled for the follow-up. Serum uric acid was collected after 8 h of fasting, and handgrip strength was measured with a dynamometer. eGFR was calculated with an equation based on the Chinese population. A generalized additive model was employed for interaction analysis and progressively adjusted confounders. RESULTS During the follow-up, a total of 659 individuals were excluded due to the lack of grip strength data, leaving 2,163 participants for analysis. Despite the protective effect of high uric acid against low muscle strength, especially in older females, it is not statistically significant (OR = 0.69, 95%CI = 0.45-1.04, P = 0.075). Following the progressive adjustment of covariates, the association between higher eGFR and elevated SUA levels remained statistically significant in females, showing a reduced odds ratio with low muscle strength (OR = 0.82, 95%CI = 0.70-0.97, P = 0.021). However, this trend was not observed in male participants. CONCLUSIONS This Chinese population-based cohort study suggests that among older females, a higher serum uric acid level combined with a higher estimated glomerular filtration rate is linked to a reduced risk of low muscle strength. This implies that the relationship between high serum uric acid levels and the risk of low grip strength might differ by gender.

Abstract
Background Xanthine oxidoreductase (XOR) inhibitor administration, known to reduce uric acid and reactive oxygen species (ROS) production, also improves vascular endothelial function (VEF). This cross-sectional study examined our hypothesis that XOR contributes to impaired VEF through ROS but not uric acid production. Methods In 395 subjects (196 males, 199 females) without urate-lowering agent administration who underwent a health examination, plasma XOR activity was determined using our highly sensitive assay based on [13C2,15N2] xanthine and liquid chromatography/triple quadrupole mass spectrometry. For VEF evaluation, flow-mediated dilatation (FMD) in the brachial artery was determined by ultrasound, with physical and laboratory measurements also obtained. Results The median values for plasma XOR activity, serum uric acid, and FMD were 26.6 pmol/h/mL, 5.4 mg/dL, and 6.2%, respectively. Simple regression analysis showed weak correlations of both log plasma XOR activity and serum uric acid level with FMD (r = -0.213, p < 0.001 and r = -0.139, p = 0.006, respectively). However, multivariable linear regression analyses revealed that log plasma XOR activity but not serum uric acid level remained associated with FMD (β = -0.116, p = 0.037 and β = 0.041, p = 0.549, respectively) after adjustments for various clinical parameters, with no remarkable inconsistencies for the association observed in subgroups divided based on sex or uric acid level. Finally, a series of mediation analyses showed that serum uric acid level did not meet the criteria for mediator of the association of plasma XOR activity with FMD (p = 0.538). Conclusions These findings suggest the possibility that XOR contributes to the pathophysiology of impaired VEF through ROS but not uric acid production.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Dietary pattern involving meat consumption has an association with serum uric acid level which subsequently has an impact on moods. However, this relationship is not clearly established in pregnant women, particularly those who are accustomed to daily meat consumption. OBJECTIVE This study investigated the relationship between red meat consumption and uric acid level and the subsequent impact on mood disorders in 1st trimester pregnant women. METHODOLOGY A total of 92 pregnant women in their first trimester (8-12 weeks), were selected for this study. Socio-demographic characteristics including age, body mass index (BMI), educational qualification, sleep hours, blood pressure and exercise status were recorded. To assess meat consumption, classification based on the recruited population consumption was divided into low and high meat consumption groups. Serum uric acid level was estimated in plasma. Mood disorder, namely, depression and anxiety were assessed using a self-reported Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) questionnaire. Collected data was analysed using different statistical tools. RESULTS Logistic regression analysis showed higher odds of depression (OR = 0.059, 95% CI 0.02-0.172, p < 0.001) and anxiety (OR = 0.144, 95% CI 0.055-0.375, p < 0.001) in the high meat consumption group. Further, the potential confounders, high BMI and less exercise increased the odds of depression and anxiety in high meat consumption groups. Linear regression analysis revealed a significant influence of meat consumption on uric acid level (F (1, 90) = 305.385, p < 0.01). CONCLUSIONS The study recommends regular clinical screening of mood disorders, and recommends reasonable consumption of lean meat and/or replacing some portions with fish, as well as, a commitment to eating a healthy, balanced diet. It also suggests extensive studies because it could be linked to postpartum mood disorders among those who consume red meat every day.

Abstract
Elevated uric acid (UA) levels have been reported in malaria patients and are particularly prominent in severe malaria cases. This study aims to synthesize the difference in UA levels between malaria patients and uninfected controls, and between patients with severe and non-severe malaria. A comprehensive literature search was carried out across databases such as Embase, MEDLINE, Ovid, PubMed, Scopus, ProQuest, and Google Scholar to identify relevant studies for inclusion. The methodological quality of the included studies was evaluated independently by two reviewers using the JBI critical appraisal tool for observational studies. A meta-analysis was performed to calculate the pooled effect sizes, expressed as Hedges' g, with 95% confidence intervals (CIs). The Hedges' g was pooled using the random-effects model. An initial search yielding a total of 1122 articles, and a final total of 19 studies being included in the review. Elevated UA levels were observed more prominently in malaria patients, especially those with severe manifestations, when compared to uninfected controls. The conducted meta-analysis demonstrated a significant elevation in UA levels in patients suffering from malaria as compared to uninfected controls (P < 0.01, Hedges's g = 1.40, 95% CI 0.84-1.95, I2 = 95.81, 16 studies). The conducted meta-analysis demonstrated a significant elevation in UA levels in patients suffering from severe malaria as compared to non-severe malaria (P < 0.01, Hedges's g = 3.45, 95% CI 1.06-5.83, I2 = 98.73, 6 studies). In summary, these findings provide valuable insights into the potential use of UA as a biomarker for malaria infection and determination of its severity. Further research is needed to validate these findings and to explore the underlying mechanisms that contribute to the elevation of UA levels during malaria infection.

Abstract
Alterations in the circulating concentrations of uric acid and its degradation product, allantoin, might account for the systemic pro-oxidant state and the increased cardiovascular risk in rheumatoid arthritis (RA). We sought to address this issue by conducting a systematic review and meta-analysis of the association between the plasma/serum concentrations of uric acid and allantoin and RA. We searched PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science from inception to 20 June 2023 for studies comparing plasma/serum concentrations of uric acid and allantoin between RA patients and healthy controls. We assessed the risk of bias with the JBI Critical Appraisal Checklist for analytical studies and the certainty of evidence with the Grades of Recommendation, Assessment, Development and Evaluation (GRADE) Working Group system. In the 19 studies selected for analysis, there were non-significant differences in uric acid concentrations between RA patients and controls (standard mean difference, SMD = 0.11, 95% CI -0.07 to 0.30, p = 0.22; I2 = 87.9%, p < 0.001; low certainty of evidence). By contrast, the concentrations of allantoin were significantly higher in RA patients (SMD = 1.10, 95% CI 0.66 to 1.55, p < 0.001; I2 = 55.6%, p = 0.08; extremely low certainty of evidence). In meta-regression, a significant association was observed between the SMD of uric acid concentrations and body mass index, a risk factor for atherosclerosis and cardiovascular disease (t = 3.35, p = 0.007). Our study has shown a significant increase in the concentrations of the oxidative stress biomarker allantoin in patients with RA. Further research is warranted to investigate the interplay between uric acid, allantoin, redox balance, and cardiovascular disease in this group. (PROSPERO registration number: CRD42023441127).

Abstract
Sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitors (SGLT2is) are glucose-lowering agents whose positive impact on cardiovascular risk has been described extensively. Not only do they influence lipid profile, blood pressure, atherosclerosis risk, hemoglobin level, and insulin resistance, but they also reduce cardiovascular events, all-cause mortality, and hospitalization rates. Some of these effects may be due to their impact on serum uric acid (SUA) concentration. Findings from nine meta-analyses showed that, indeed, SGLT2is significantly reduce SUA. The data on the drug- and dose-dependency of this effect were inconclusive. Several factors alternating the beneficial effects of SGLT2is on SUA, such as glycated hemoglobin concentration (HbA1c), presence of diabetes, and baseline SUA level, were described. Even though there is a consensus that the lowering of SUA by SGLT2is might be due to the increased urinary excretion rate of uric acid (UEUA) rather than its altered metabolism, the exact mechanism remains unknown. The influence of SGLT2is on SUA may not only be used in gout treatment but may also be of huge importance in explaining the observed pleiotropic effects of SGLT2is.

Abstract
Birds are sensitive to environmental pollution and lead (Pb) contamination could negatively affect nearly all avian organs and systems including kidney of excretive system. Thereby, we used a biological model species-Japanese quail (Coturnix japonica) to examine the nephrotoxic effects of Pb exposure and possible toxic mechanism of Pb on birds. Quail chicks of 7-day-old were exposed to 50 ppm Pb of low dose and high dose of 500 ppm and 1000 ppm Pb in drinking water for five weeks. The results showed that Pb exposure induced kidney weight increase while body weight and length reduction. The increase of uric acid (UA), creatinine (CREA) and cystatin c (Cys C) in the plasma suggested renal dysfunction. Moreover, both microstructural and ultrastructural changes demonstrated obvious kidney damages. In particular, renal tubule epithelial cells and glomeruli swelling indicated renal inflammation. Furthermore, changes in the content and activity of oxidative stress markers suggested that Pb caused excessive oxidative stress in the kidney. Pb exposure also induced abnormal apoptosis in the kidney. In addition, RNA sequencing (RNA-Seq) analysis revealed that Pb disturbed molecular pathways and signaling related with renal function. Especially, Pb exposure resulted in an increase in renal uric acid synthesis by disrupting purine metabolism. Pb caused apoptotic increment by inhibiting the phosphatidylinositol-3-kinase (PI3K)/RAC-alpha serine/threonine-protein kinase (AKT) pathway and induced aggravated inflammation by activating Nuclear Factor kappa B (NF-κB) signaling pathway. The study implied that Pb caused nephrotoxicity through structural damages, uric acid metabolism disorder, oxidation imbalance, apoptosis and inflammatory pathway activation.

Abstract
Epidemiological and experimental data have associated exposure to fine particulate matter (PM2.5) with various metabolic dysfunctions and diseases, including overweight and type 2 diabetes. Adipose tissue is an energy pool for storing lipids, a necessary regulator of glucose homeostasis, and an active endocrine organ, playing an essential role in developing various related diseases such as diabetes and obesity. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying PM2.5-impaired functions in adipose tissue have rarely been explored. In this work, metabolomics based on liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry was performed to study the adverse impacts of PM2.5 exposure on brown adipose tissue (BAT) and white adipose tissue (WAT) in the diabetic mouse model. We found the effects of PM2.5 exposure by comparing the different metabolites in both adipose tissues of male db/db mice using real-ambient PM2.5 exposure. The results showed that PM2.5 exposure changed the purine metabolism in mice, especially the dramatic increase of xanthine content in both WAT and BAT. These changes led to significant oxidative stress. Then the results from real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction showed that PM2.5 exposure could cause the production of inflammatory factors in both adipose tissues. Moreover, the increased reactive oxygen species (ROS) promoted triglyceride accumulation in WAT and inhibited its decomposition, causing increased WAT content in db/db mice. In addition, PM2.5 exposure significantly suppressed thermogenesis and affected energy metabolism in the BAT of male db/db mice, which may deteriorate insulin sensitivity and blood glucose regulation. This research demonstrated the impact of PM2.5 on the adipose tissue of male db/db mice, which may be necessary for public health.

Abstract
Gout is a disease caused by uric acid (UA) accumulation in the joints, causing inflammation. Two UA forms - monosodium urate (MSU) and soluble uric acid (sUA) have been shown to interact physically with inflammasomes, especially with the nod-like receptor (NLR) family pyrin domain containing 3 (NLRP3), albeit the role of the immune response to UA is poorly understood, given that asymptomatic hyperuricemia does also exist. Macrophage phagocytosis of UA activate NLRP3, lead to cytokines release, and ultimately, lead to chemoattract neutrophils and lymphocytes to the gout flare joint spot. Genetic variants of inflammasome genes and of genes encoding their molecular partners may influence hyperuricemia and gout susceptibility, while also influencing other comorbidities such as metabolic syndrome and cardiovascular diseases. In this review, we summarize the inflammatory responses in acute and chronic gout, specifically focusing on innate immune cell mechanisms and genetic and epigenetic characteristics of participating molecules. Abstract
BACKGROUND Monosodium urate (MSU) crystals are associated with gouty inflammatory diseases. MSU-associated inflammation is majorly triggered by NOD-like receptor protein 3 (NLRP3) inflammasome that promotes interleukin (IL)-1β secretion. Although diallyl trisulfide (DATS) is well-known polysulfide garlic compounds with anti-inflammatory effects, its action in MSU-induced inflammasome activation has not been known yet. PURPOSE The objective of the current study was to investigate anti-inflammasome effects and mechanisms of DATS in RAW 264.7 and bone marrow-derived macrophages (BMDM). METHODS The concentrations of IL-1β were analyzed with enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. The MSU-induced mitochondrial damage and reactive oxygen species (ROS) production were detected by fluorescence microscope and flow cytometry. The protein expressions of NLRP3 signaling molecules, NADPH oxidase (NOX) 3/4 were assessed with Western blotting. RESULTS DATS suppressed MSU-induced IL-1β and caspase-1 accompanied by decreased inflammasome complex formation in RAW 264.7 and BMDM. In addition, DATS restored mitochondrial damage. DATS downregulated NOX 3/4 that were upregulated by MSU as predicted by gene microarray and confirmed by Western blotting. CONCLUSION This study first reports mechanistic finding that DATS alleviates MSU-induced NLRP3 inflammasome by mediating NOX3/4-dependent mitochondrial ROS production in macrophages in vitro and ex vivo, suggesting DATS could be effective therapeutic candidate for gouty inflammatory condition.

Abstract
Cigarette smoke exposure is the major cause of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Cigarette smoke heightens the elevation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and thus leads to apoptosis. Hyperuricemia has been considered as a risk factor for COPD. However, the underlying mechanism for this aggravating effect remains unclear. The current study sought to examine the role of high uric acid (HUA) in COPD using cigarette smoke extract (CSE) exposed murine lung epithelial (MLE-12) cells. Our data showed that CSE induced the increase of ROS, mitochondrial dynamics disorder, and apoptosis, while HUA treatment aggravated the effects of CSE. Further studies suggested that HUA decreased the expression of antioxidant enzyme-peroxiredoxin-2 (PRDX2). Overexpression of PRDX2 inhibited excessive ROS generation, mitochondrial dynamics disorder, and apoptosis induced by HUA. Knockdown of PRDX2 by small interfering RNA (siRNA) promoted ROS generation, mitochondrial dynamics disorder, and apoptosis in MLE-12 cells treated with HUA. However, antioxidant N-acetylcysteine (NAC) reversed the effects of PRDX2-siRNA on MLE-12 cells. In conclusion, HUA aggravated CSE-induced cellular ROS levels and led to ROS-dependent mitochondrial dynamics disorder and apoptosis in MLE-12 cells through downregulating PRDX2.

Abstract
Uric acid has antioxidant properties. To examine whether a low uric acid level is associated with severe coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) progression via inflammation, alveolar damage, and/or coagulation abnormality, a retrospective observational study of 488 patients with non-severe COVID-19 and serum uric acid level ≤7 mg/dL at admission was conducted. Serum C-reactive protein (CRP), serum Krebs von den Lungen 6 (KL-6), and plasma D-dimer levels were also measured as markers of inflammation, alveolar damage, and coagulation abnormality, respectively. Median values for uric acid, CRP, KL-6, and D-dimer at admission were 4.4 mg/dL, 3.33 mg/dL, 252.0 U/mL, and 0.8 µg/mL, respectively. Among the total cohort, 95 (19.5%) progressed to severe COVID-19 with a median (interquartile range) time of 7 (4–14) days. Multivariable Cox proportional hazards regression analysis showed that low uric acid level was associated with a higher rate of severe COVID-19 progression. However, uric acid level was inversely associated with CRP level, and the association between the level of uric acid and severe COVID-19 progression was significantly different with and without CRP level inclusion. In contrast, no such association was found for KL-6 or D-dimer level. Low uric acid may contribute to severe COVID-19 progression via increased inflammation in subjects without hyperuricemia.

Abstract
Subjects with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2D) are at increased risk for heart failure (HF). The cardiac-specific (FABP3) and adipose-tissue-specific (FABP4) types of the fatty acid binding proteins have been associated with both all-cause and cardiovascular (CV) mortality. The aim of this study was to explore the prognosis value of FABP3 and FABP4 in ambulatory subjects with chronic HF (CHF), with and without T2D. A prospective study involving 240 ambulatory CHF subjects was performed. Patients were followed-up for a mean of 5.78 ± 3.30 years and cause of death (if any) was recorded. Primary endpoints were defined as all-cause and CV death, and a composite endpoint that included CV death or hospitalization for HF was included as a secondary endpoint. Baseline serum samples were obtained and the serum FABP3 and FABP4 concentrations were assessed by sandwich enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Survival analysis was performed with multivariable Cox regressions, using Fine and Gray competing risks models when needed, to explore the prognostic value of FABP3 and FABP4 concentrations, adjusting for potential confounders. Type 2 diabetes mellitus was highly prevalent, accounting for 47.5% for total subjects with CHF. Subjects with T2D showed higher mortality rates (T2D: 69.30%; non-T2D: 50.79%, p = 0.004) and higher serum FABP3 (1829.3 (1104.9–3440.5) pg/mL vs. 1396.05 (820.3–2362.16) pg/mL, p = 0.007) and FABP4 (45.5 (27.6–79.8) ng/mL vs. 34.1 (24.09–55.3) ng/mL, p = 0.006) concentrations compared with non-T2D CHF subjects. In the whole study cohort, FABP3 was independently associated with all-cause death, and both FABP3 and FABP4 concentrations were associated with CV mortality. The predictive values of these two molecules for all-cause (FABP3: HR 1.25, 95% CI 1.09–1.44; p = 0.002. FABP4: HR 2.21, 95% CI 1.12–4.36; p = 0.023) and CV mortality (FABP3: HR 1.28, 95% CI 1.09–1.50; p = 0.002. FABP4: HR 4.19, 95% CI 2.21–7.95; p < 0.001) were only statistically significant in the subgroup of subjects with T2D. Notably, FABP4 (HR 2.07, 95% CI 1.11–3.87; p = 0.022), but not FABP3, also predicted the occurrence of the composite endpoint (death or hospitalization for HF) only in subjects with T2D. All these associations were not found in CHF subjects without T2D. Our findings support the usefulness of serum FABP3 and FABP4 concentrations as independent predictors for the occurrence of all-cause and CV mortality in ambulatory subjects with CHF with T2D.

Abstract
High-level football (soccer) players face intense physical demands that result in acute and residual fatigue, impairing their physical performance in subsequent matches. Further, top-class players are frequently exposed to match-congested periods where sufficient recovery times are not achievable. To evaluate training and recovery strategies, the monitoring of players' recovery profiles is crucial. Along with performance and neuro-mechanical impairments, match-induced fatigue causes metabolic disturbances denoted by changes in chemical analytes that can be quantified in different body fluids such as blood, saliva, and urine, thus acting as biomarkers. The monitoring of these molecules might supplement performance, neuromuscular and cognitive measurements to guide coaches and trainers during the recovery period. The present narrative review aims to comprehensively review the scientific literature on biomarkers of post-match recovery in semi-professional and professional football players as well as provide an outlook on the role that metabolomic studies might play in this field of research. Overall, no single gold-standard biomarker of match-induced fatigue exists, and a range of metabolites are available to assess different aspects of post-match recovery. The use of biomarker panels might be suitable to simultaneously monitoring these broad physiological processes, yet further research on fluctuations of different analytes throughout post-match recovery is warranted. Although important efforts have been made to address the high interindividual heterogeneity of available markers, limitations inherent to these markers might compromise the information they provide to guide recovery protocols. Further research on metabolomics might benefit from evaluating the long-term recovery period from a high-level football match to shed light upon new biomarkers of post-match recovery.

Abstract
BACKGROUND There is limited data on the mechanisms of aspirin desensitization in patients with nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID)-induced urticaria/angioedema (NIUA). OBJECTIVES We sought to characterize the transcriptomic and metabolomic profiles of patients with NIUA undergoing aspirin desensitization. METHODS PBMCs and plasma were separated from the blood of patients with NIUA undergoing aspirin desensitization for coronary artery disease and NSAID-tolerant controls. RNA was isolated from PBMCs and subjected to messenger RNA (mRNA)- and long noncoding RNA (lncRNA)-sequencing. Plasma samples were analyzed using LC-MS/MS for metabolite shifts using a semitargeted metabolomics panel. RESULTS Eleven patients with NIUA and 10 healthy controls were recruited. The mRNA gene profiles of predesensitization versus postdesensitization and healthy control versus postdesensitization did not differ significantly. However, we identified 739 mRNAs and 888 lncRNAs as differentially expressed from preaspirin desensitization patients and controls. A 12-mRNA gene signature was trained using a machine learning algorithm to distinguish between controls, postdose, and predose samples. Ingenuity Pathway Analysis identified 5 canonical pathways that were significantly enriched in preaspirin desensitization samples. IL-22 was the most upregulated pathway. To investigate the potential regulatory roles of the differentially expressed lncRNA on the mRNAs, 9 lncRNAs and 12 mRNAs showed significantly correlated expression patterns in the IL-22 pathway. To validate the transcriptomics data, IL-22 was measured in the plasma samples of the subjects using ELISA. IL-22 was significantly higher in preaspirin desensitization patients compared with controls. In parallel, metabolomic analysis revealed stark differences in plasma profiles of preaspirin desensitization patients and healthy controls. In particular, 2-hydroxybenzoic acid (salicylic acid) was significantly lower in preaspirin desensitization patients compared with healthy controls. CONCLUSIONS This is the first study to combine both transcriptomic and metabolomic approaches in patients with NIUA, which contributes to a deeper understanding about the pathogenesis of NIUA and may potentially pave the way toward a molecular diagnosis of NSAID hypersensitivity.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Elevated plasma levels of uric acid (UA) are considered an independent risk factor for hypertension, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, endothelial and vascular damage, obesity, and metabolic syndrome. Even physiological concentrations of soluble UA have been proved to induce gene expression of macrophage-secreted inflammatory cytokines and stimulate production of reactive oxygen species in mature adipocytes. UA is also described as a powerful endogenous plasma antioxidant, which reveals a paradox of duality for this parameter.

Abstract
BACKGROUND As a natural antioxidant, uric acid plays a protective role against neurodegenerative disorders, including Parkinson's disease (PD). Therefore, the risk of PD has been found to be lower in people with hyperuricemia. In this article, we conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to investigate whether gout affects the future risk of developing PD. METHODS We searched PubMed, Scopus, the Web of Science, and Google Scholar to find relevant studies, up to March 16, 2022. Studies investigating the risk of PD, following a gout diagnosis, were included if they were cross-sectional, case-control or cohort studies. The Newcastle Ottawa Scale (NOS) checklist was used to assess the quality of all included studies. The meta-analysis was performed using STATA 17.0. RESULTS Ten studies were included, which were comprised of three case-controls, six cohort studies and one nested case-control study. We found no significant association between gout and the risk of PD among both sexes (RR = 0.94, 95% CI: 0.86-1.04), although the association was significant for females (RR = 1.09; 95% CI: 1.02-1.17). Subgroup analysis also showed no significant findings by age group, whether they were receiving treatment for gout, study design, quality assessment score, and method of gout ascertainment. In contrast, the studies that defined PD according to the use of drugs showed significant results (RR = 0.82; 95% CI: 0.76-0.89). There was a significant publication bias on the association between gout and PD. CONCLUSIONS The presence of gout had no significant effect on the risk of subsequently developing PD. Further analyses are recommended to investigate the effects of demographic and behavioral risk factors.

Abstract
Aim: The aim of this study was to measure serum levels of methylarginine derivatives and related metabolites in patients with gout. Materials & methods: This study enrolled 100 patients with gout and 80 patients in the control group. Serum asymmetric dimethylarginine, symmetric dimethylarginine, L-N-monomethylarginine, arginine, homoarginine, citrulline and ornithine levels were measured with tandem mass spectrometry. Results: Serum ornithine, citrulline and total methylated arginine load levels were statistically significantly higher in patients with gout compared with the control group, while serum arginine and homoarginine levels and global arginine bioavailability ratio were statistically significantly lower. Conclusion: There may be an association between gout, methylarginine levels and hyperuricemia and increased risk of cardiovascular disease.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Increased production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and oxidative stress are known to play a key role in the pathogenesis of type 2 diabetes (T2D); however, the relationship between genes encoding a multi-subunit ROS-generated enzyme NADPH oxidase and disease susceptibility remains unexplored. AIMS The present pilot study investigated whether single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP) at the RAC1 gene (Rac family small GTPase 1), a molecular switcher of NADPH oxidase, are associated with the risk of T2D, glucose metabolism and redox homeostasis. MATERIALS & METHODS DNA samples from 3206 unrelated Russian subjects (1579 T2D patients and 1627 controls) were genotyped for six common SNPs rs4724800, rs7784465, rs10951982, rs10238136, rs836478 and rs9374 of RAC1 using the MassArray-4 system. RESULTS SNP rs7784465 was associated with an increased risk of T2D (p = .0003), and significant differences in the RAC1 haplotypes occurred between the cases and controls (p = .005). Seventeen combinations of RAC1 genotypes showed significant associations with T2D risk (FDR <0.05). Associations of RAC1 polymorphisms with T2D were modified by environmental factors such as sedentary lifestyle, psychological stresses, a dietary deficit of fresh fruits/vegetables and increased carbohydrate intake. RAC1 polymorphisms were associated with biochemical parameters in diabetics: rs7784465 (p = .015) and rs836478 (p = .028) with increased glycated haemoglobin, rs836478 (p = .005) with increased fasting blood glucose, oxidized glutathione (p = .012) and uric acid (p = .034). Haplotype rs4724800A-rs7784465C-rs10951982G-rs10238136A-rs836478C-rs9374G was strongly associated with increased levels of hydrogen peroxide (p < .0001). CONCLUSION Thus, polymorphisms in the RAC1 gene represent novel genetic markers of type 2 diabetes, and their link with glucose metabolism and disease pathogenesis is associated with the changes in redox homeostasis.

Abstract
Uric acid (UA) is associated with renal disease and patient survival, but the causal associations remain unclear. Also, the longitudinal UA control (trajectory) is not well understood. We enrolled 808 subjects diagnosed with stage 3 chronic kidney disease from 2007 to 2017. We plotted the mean UA over a period of 6 months with a minimum requirement of 3 samples of UA. From the sampled points, we generated an interpolated line for each patient by joining mean values of UA levels over time. Using lines from all patients, we classified them into 3 groups of trajectories (low, medium, and high) through group-based trajectory modeling, and then we further separated them into either treatment or nontreatment subgroups. Due to multiple comparisons, we performed post hoc analysis by Bonferroni adjustment. Using univariate competing-risks regression, we calculated the competing risk analysis with subdistribution hazard ratio of possible confounders. All of the 6 trajectories appeared showed a gradual decline in function over time without any of the curves crossing over one another. For all-cause mortality risk, none of the variables (including age, gender, coronary arterial disease, cerebrovascular disease, diabetes mellitus, renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system inhibitors, trajectories of UA, and treatment of UA) were statistically significant. All 6 trajectories appeared as steady curves without crossovers among them over the entire period of follow-up. Patients with diabetes mellitus were statistically more likely to undergo dialysis. The only trend was seen in the on-treatment trajectories, which showed lower risks for dialysis compared to their nontreatment trajectories. There was no effect of UA control on survival. Initial treatment of UA is crucially important for UA control. However, the long-term effects on patients and renal survival appeared to be minor and without statistical significance.

Abstract
Greater physical fitness may lead to greater left ventricular mass (LVM) and reduce the effect of cardiometabolic risk factors on LVM. However, the cardiometabolic biomarkers associations for LVM have not been clarified in physically active young adults. This study included 2019 men and 253 women, aged 18-43 years, from the military in Taiwan. All participants underwent anthropometric and blood metabolic markers measurements, and completed a 3000-m run test for assessing fitness. LVM was calculated on the basis of an echocardiography. Multiple linear regression was used to determine the sex-specific associations between cardiometabolic risk markers and LVM indexed for the body height (g/m2.7). In men, age, systolic blood pressure (SBP), 3000-m running time, serum triglycerides, serum uric acid and waist circumference (WC) were correlated with LVM index (β = 0.07, 0.10, - 0.01, 0.01, 0.24 and 0.24, respectively; all p-values < 0.05). The correlations were not significant for fasting plasma glucose, total cholesterol and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C). In women, SBP, HDL-C and WC were correlated with LVM index in the univariate analysis (β = 0.07, - 0.05 and 0.32, respectively; all p-values < 0.05), whereas the correlation was only significant for WC in the multiple linear regression analysis (β = 0.20; p-value < 0.001). In physically active adults, the associations of cardiometabolic risk markers with LVM might vary by sex. Better endurance exercise performance associated with greater LVM was noted only in men, while greater WC was the only metabolic risk marker for greater LVM in both men and women.

Abstract
Seeking for new effectual anticancer drugs is of great importance. In this study, a newly synthesized and well-characterized chromene derivative (ethyl 2-amino-4-phenyl-4H-benzo(h)chromene-3-carboxylate) "C" was prepared. Molecular docking studies were done. The new compound "C" in compare to the natural parent Quercetin "Q," as a well-known natural chromene derivative with antioxidant and antitumor activities, were tested for their antitumor activity against Ehrlich ascites carcinoma (EAC)-bearing mice. Both reduced ascites volume, decreased viable EAC cells, and prolonged EAC-bearing mice life span. They normalized troponin, creatine kinase-MB, lactate dehydrogenase, and urea levels, reversed liver enzyme activities towards normal, and increased antioxidant levels while reduced tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) levels. Compared to each other, the new synthetic derivative "C" showed stronger antineoplastic effects than the natural parent "Q" may via the anti-inflammatory activities. Therefore, the newly synthesized chromene derivative is more promising as a future antitumor candidate than the natural parent molecule "Quercetin." Finally, our results encourage researchers to pay more attention to developing more novel natural-based derivatives that would be more beneficial as future therapeutics than their natural parents.

Abstract
We previously found an association of insulin resistance (IR) with plasma xanthine oxidoreductase (XOR) activity in a cross-sectional study. However, whether IR induces increased XOR activity has not been elucidated. This retrospective longitudinal observational study included 347 participants (173 males, 174 females) who underwent annual health examinations and were medication naïve. Homeostasis model assessment of IR (HOMA-IR) index, and physical and laboratory measurements were determined at the baseline. At baseline and 12-month follow-up examinations, plasma XOR activity was determined using our novel assay based on [13C2,15N2] xanthine and liquid chromatography/triple quadrupole mass spectrometry. Subjects with IR, defined as HOMA-IR index ≥ 1.7 (n = 92), exhibited significantly (p < 0.001) higher plasma XOR activity levels than those without IR (n = 255), with an increase in that activity seen in 180 (51.9%) after 12 months. Multivariable linear and logistic regression analyses showed that IR, but not BMI or waist circumference, at baseline was significantly associated with plasma XOR activity (β = 0.094, p = 0.033) and increased plasma XOR activity over the 12-month period (odds ratio, 1.986; 95% confidence interval, 1.048–3.761; p = 0.035), after adjustments for various clinical parameters, including plasma XOR activity at baseline. These results suggest that IR induces increased plasma XOR activity in a manner independent of adiposity.

Abstract
Background Migraine is a common neurological disease and an important cause of disability worldwide. Serum urate is the end product of purine metabolism in Homo sapiens and other hominoids. Previous studies about the serum urate level in migraine were contradictory. Hence, we present a cross-section study to clarify the association between serum urate and migraine and explore the dose effect of serum urate on migraine. Materials and Methods The data for this cross-section study were acquired from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES). A diagnosis of migraine was made through patient the self-reported and prescription medication. For data analysis, the weighted linear regression model, weighted chi-square test, logistic regression models, smooth curve fittings, and the two-piecewise linear regression model were utilized for data analysis. All data analysis was conducted on Empower software. Results Totally, 18,637 participants were enrolled in this study, of which 208 were migraineurs. The rest were set as control. There existed a statistically significant difference in mean age (p = 0.0389), gender (p< 0.0001), race (p< 0.0001), data release cycle (p = 0.048), drug usage, blood albumin (p< 0.0001), blood total protein (p< 0.0001), hemoglobin (p< 0.0001), serum iron (p< 0.0001), and serum urate (p< 0.0001) between the two groups. According to logistic regression models, there existed no consistent linear relationship between serum urate and migraine before (model 1: odd ratio (OR) = 0.83, p = 0.0004) or after adjusting for confounders (model 2: OR = 0.96, p = 0.5198; model 3: OR = 0.84, p = 0.0184). However, smooth curve fittings found an exponential curve relationship between serum urate and migraine. Furthermore, when serum urate was more than 7.8 mg/dl, higher serum urate was correlated with higher migraine occurrence (model 1: OR = 1.54, p = 0.0022; model 2: OR = 1.51, p = 0.0050; model 3: OR = 1.77, p = 0.0348). Besides, 8 out of the 208 migraineurs had a serum urate higher than 7.8 mg/dl. Conclusions In conclusion, there existed an exponential curve relationship between serum urate and migraine, with an infliction point of 7.8 mg/dl. When serum urate was more than 7.8 mg/dl, increased serum urate was correlated with higher migraine occurrence.

Abstract
Background Serum uric acid (UA) has been reported to be associated with ischemic stroke and inflammation. However, whether or not UA is related to the recurrence of ischemic stroke, and whether inflammation plays a role in the relationship between them remain inconclusive. Objective We sought to explore the relationship between UA and the recurrence of ischemic stroke and to define the role of neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) in the aforementioned relationship. Methods A total of 8,995 patients were included in this study. Basic information and blood samples were collected, and whether or not each participant experienced ischemic stroke recurrence within 3 years was documented. Patients were stratified into three groups according to their UA level, as follows: ≤ 266, 267–339, and ≥ 340 μmol/L. COX regression and restricted cubic spline regression models were used to evaluate the clinical correlation between UA and ischemic stroke recurrence, mediation analysis and interaction and joint analysis were used to evaluate the role of NLR in the association of UA and ischemic stroke recurrence, and sensitivity and subgroup analyses were performed to test the robustness of the data. Results Ischemic stroke recurrence was related to male sex, older age, higher UA level, higher NLR, hypertension, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease. Following adjustment for potential confounders, a high level of UA (≥ 340 μmol/L) increased the risk of recurrence by 92.6% in patients with previous ischemic stroke. We also found that NLR affects the association between UA and the recurrence of ischemic stroke in older adults, suggesting that patients with high NLR and high UA levels are at greater risk for ischemic stroke recurrence. Conclusion UA level is non-linearly associated with recurrence, and NLR has an additive interaction between UA and ischemic stroke recurrence.

Abstract
Hyperuricemia (HUA) is a metabolic disease, closely related to oxidative stress and inflammatory responses, caused by reduced excretion or increased production of uric acid. However, the existing therapeutic drugs have many side effects. It is imperative to find a drug or an alternative medicine to effectively control HUA. It was reported that Gardenia jasminoides and Poria cocos could reduce the level of uric acid in hyperuricemic rats through the inhibition of xanthine oxidase (XOD) activity. But there were few studies on its mechanism. Therefore, the effective ingredients in G. jasminoides and P. cocoa extracts (GPE), the active target sites, and the further potential mechanisms were studied by LC-/MS/MS, molecular docking, and network pharmacology, combined with the validation of animal experiments. These results proved that GPE could significantly improve HUA induced by potassium oxazine with the characteristics of multicomponent, multitarget, and multichannel overall regulation. In general, GPE could reduce the level of uric acid and alleviate liver and kidney injury caused by inflammatory response and oxidative stress. The mechanism might be related to the TNF-α and IL-7 signaling pathway.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Increased level of serum uric acid (UA) is often considered a risk factor for ischemic stroke. However, there are limited data on the association between UA and intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH). This study aimed to examine the connection between UA and early neurological deterioration (END) in patients with ICH. METHODS This is a prospective observational study. Patients with ICH were enrolled from January 2017 to December 2020. END was diagnosed as the Canadian Stroke Scale (CSS) score decreased ≥1 points between admission and 48 hours. UA was measured at admission. Multivariable logistic regression analysis was performed to explore the relationship between serum UA and END. RESULTS Of the 498 enrolled patients, 132 (26.5%) were developed with END. Patients with END had a significantly higher level of serum UA (332 vs 270 µmol/L, P < 0.001). Univariate logistic regression analysis indicated that patients with the highest quartile of UA level had an OR of 3.256 (95% CI: 1.849-5.734, P < 0.001) for END compared with those with the lowest quartile of UA level. After adjusting for major confounders, the highest UA quartile remained as an independent predictor for END (OR = 2.282, 95% CI: 1.112-4.685, P = 0.013). CONCLUSION Higher serum UA level was independently associated with END in patients with ICH; therefore, intervention to lower UA level may be worth considering.
