Abstract
INTRODUCTION Quality of life (QOL) and health-related quality of life (HRQOL) in children and adolescents with food allergies have been an important and steadily growing field of research for the past 20 years. There seem to be conceptual and methodological challenges that might influence the face validity of QOL and HRQOL research in general health research, but this has not been investigated in pediatric and adolescent food allergy research up until now. The aim of this study was to perform a systematic review of the QOL and HRQOL studies on food allergy in children and adolescents under the age of 18. METHODS The systematic review was conducted on studies purporting to measure QOL or HRQOL in children and adolescents with food allergies. The literature search was developed in Ovid MEDLINE and databases used in the review were Embase, Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, CINAHL, and Scopus. Studies were evaluated based on a set of face validity criteria developed by Gill and Feinstein in 1994 and refined by Moons et al. in 2004. RESULTS Out of 61 studies eligible for the review, 11 (18%) defined QOL or HRQOL and two distinguished QOL from HRQOL. The Food Allergy Quality of Life (FAQLQ) instrument series is the most frequently used HRQOL measurement among the studies included. QOL and HRQOL were employed interchangeably in half of the studies, some of them also using a third term in addition. CONCLUSION Our findings lead to the conclusion that the research field investigated contains methodological and conceptual shortcomings regarding QOL and HRQOL. An increased awareness toward the terminology as well as consideration of points to reflect upon will be beneficial, as this will also improve the validity of future studies.

Abstract
AIM To examine child-led goal setting and evaluation tools and approaches for children with a disability or developmental delay. METHOD Six databases were searched for studies that included population (children aged less than 18 years with disability or developmental delay); construct (child-led goal setting tool or approach); and context (developmental therapy or rehabilitation). The utility of tools and approaches across the goal setting and evaluation process was investigated using abductive content analysis. RESULTS Fifty articles met the inclusion criteria. Three approaches and four tools for child-led goal setting and evaluation were identified. No studies reported the clinimetric properties of tools specifically for child self-respondents. Qualitative analysis revealed six distinct goal phases in which tools and approaches were used, which were synthesized into a new framework for child-led goal setting and evaluation titled DECIDE: Direct children to goal setting; Elicit goal topics and priorities; Construct a goal statement; Indicate baseline goal performance; Develop an action plan to address the goal; and Evaluate goal progress after the intervention. INTERPRETATION Children actively participated in goal setting and evaluation across six DECIDE goal phases. Further clinimetric information is required to support use of goal setting and evaluation tools with child self-respondents. Future research should emphasize the development of multi-phase goal setting tools and approaches for diverse populations of children.

Abstract
This study aimed to investigate agreement and discrepancies between parent proxy- and adolescent self-reports on assessments of adolescents' health-related quality of life (HRQoL), and the role that individual factors may play in parent-adolescent agreement, in a sample of adolescents with Tourette syndrome (TS) compared to a control group of healthy adolescents. Adolescents aged 12-18 years diagnosed with TS were recruited with their parents from primary and secondary referral centres. Adolescent healthy controls were matched for gender and age. Adolescents and each of their parents completed a set of questionnaires including a HRQoL evaluation of adolescent, the 'Vécu et Santé Perçue de l'Adolescent'. Mother-adolescent, father-adolescent and mother-father agreements on adolescents' HRQoL scores were investigated at individual and group level, both in TS and control groups. Data were available for 75 adolescents, 75 mothers and 63 fathers, in the TS group. Agreement between mother, father proxy-reports and TS adolescents self-reports of HRQoL varied from poor to good, without significant difference with the control group. In TS group, mothers and fathers underestimated adolescents' HRQoL in 'Psychological well-being' subscale and mothers underestimated it in 'Physical 'well-being' subscale, while controls overestimated adolescents' HRQoL in these subscales. Larger mother-adolescent discrepancies for 'Psychological well-being' and 'Physical well-being' subscales were associated with internalizing symptoms. Regarding future studies, comprehensive evaluation of the various dimensions of adolescents' HRQoL with TS requires the integration of the perspectives of both adolescents, mothers and fathers. Clinicians should take into account this point to provide comprehensive care and services.

Abstract
LAY ABSTRACT Camouflaging is a coping strategy used by some autistic and other neurodivergent people to fit in neurotypical social contexts. The self-reported Camouflaging Autistic Traits Questionnaire has been validated for use in research with adults in some Western societies, but not in non-Western cultural-ethnic groups. We translated Camouflaging Autistic Traits Questionnaire into traditional Chinese and examined the use of this measure in Taiwanese adolescents via both self-report and caregiver-report in 100 autistic and 105 non-autistic adolescents. Both self-reported and caregiver-reported Chinese version Camouflaging Autistic Traits Questionnaire were composed of two factors (i.e. a "compensation-masking" subscale and an "assimilation" subscale). Both adolescent self-reported and caregiver-reported Chinese version Camouflaging Autistic Traits Questionnaire total score and subscales were reliable in measurement, and they highly correlated with each other. Taiwanese autistic adolescents were more likely to camouflage than non-autistic adolescents, especially on assimilation. Female autistic adolescents showed higher assimilation than male autistic adolescents. Higher camouflaging, especially assimilation, was associated with higher stress in autistic and non-autistic adolescents alike. Both self-reported and caregiver-reported Chinese version Camouflaging Autistic Traits Questionnaire were reliable and offered meaningful information to help us understand the social coping experiences of autistic and non-autistic adolescents.

Abstract
A school's commitment to promoting health extends beyond students' efforts to encompass parental involvement and must recognize the critical role of parents in enhancing overall student well-being. This study, conducted in 27 schools across Lebanon, assessed parents' awareness of their children's physical and mental health. A school health campaign involved direct medical interventions on 7184 students, followed by phone interviews with 3880 parents to compare their responses with the medical findings. Discordances ranged from extreme mismatches (≥50%) to mild mismatches (<15%), with notable disparities in incomplete vaccination (67.8%), BMI (59%), and mental health indicators (expressions of sadness (69.1%), loneliness (61.0%), and anxiety (53.4%)). Factors such as school type, child's age, governorate, family income, parents' occupation, education level, and marital status significantly influenced discordance rates. Notably, mental health aspects exhibited higher disparities, emphasizing the need for improved communication between parents, physicians, and children. Bridging these gaps could empower parents with better knowledge, fostering environments conducive to lifelong healthy behaviors in children. The study underscores the urgency for enhanced communication strategies to bridge discrepancies and ensure a more comprehensive understanding of children's physical and mental well-being.

Abstract
Language disorders are associated with difficulties in various aspects of life, such as academic and social functioning, resulting in impaired health-related quality of life (HRQoL). Most studies use a parent proxy method to assess HRQoL. Since HRQoL refers to the subjective experience of an individual, it is necessary to assess children's perspectives along with their mothers'. The aim of the current study is to explore HRQoL rating agreement between children and their mothers, since the literature on other conditions suggests that discrepancies seem to reflect their different perspectives. Thus, 53 Greek-speaking children diagnosed with DLD attending kindergarten and their mothers completed, respectively, self-report and parent proxy PedsQLTM questionnaires. Mothers reported significantly better HRQoL than their children with developmental language disorder (DLD) in all HRQoL domains (p < 0.001). Poor agreement was revealed after comparing the scores from both responders, both in abstract domains, such as emotional functioning, as well as in more observable ones, such as physical health (ICC ranged from -0.05 to 0.07). Bland-Altman plots also showed poor agreement on HRQoL. Our results expand on the already known, from other conditions, importance of evaluating children's subjective experience of their HRQoL in kindergarten children with DLD. A multi-informant approach is ideal, and clinicians should prioritize children's view about their lives even when they are kindergarten-age. This approach could inform interventions focusing not only on language skills but also on other areas where it is necessary, depending on the child's subjective experience combined with the maternal perspective.

Abstract
AIMS To estimate the self-reported and parent-reported mental well-being of adolescents (aged 14 and 17) with/without intellectual disability in a sample of young people representative of the UK population. METHODS Secondary analysis of data collected in Waves 6 and 7 of the UK's Millennium Cohort Study. The analytic sample consisted of 10,838 adolescent respondents at age 14 (361 with intellectual disability and 10,477 without) and 9,408 adolescent respondents at age 17 (292 with intellectual disability and 9,116 without). RESULTS Parental reports of adolescent problems on the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ) indicated that adolescents with intellectual disability at ages 14 and 17 were more likely to have problems than those without intellectual disability across all SDQ domains. Adolescent self-report data at age 17 indicated that adolescents with intellectual disability were more likely to (self)-report that they had problems than those without intellectual disability on all but one SDQ domain. The magnitude of relative inequality between those with and without intellectual disability was consistently lower for self-report than parental report. On indicators of depression, mental well-being, self-harm, positive mental health, happiness and general psychological distress at ages 14 and 17, we found no self-reported group differences between adolescents with and without intellectual disability. CONCLUSIONS Further research is needed to understand: (1) why the magnitude of mental health inequalities between those with and without intellectual disability on the SDQ may be dependent on the identity of the informant; and (2) whether such differences are also apparent for other measures of mental health or well-being.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study examined the inter-rater agreement between child-self and parental proxy health-related quality of life (HRQoL) ratings (overall and domain level) using two different generic child-specific measures, the Child Health Utility 9D (CHU9D) and the Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory (PedsQLTM), in a community-based sample of Australian children. A secondary objective was to investigate the impact of age on child-parent agreement across the dimensions of the two measures. METHODS A total of 85 child-parent dyads (children aged 6-12 years) recruited from the community completed the self and proxy versions of the CHU9D and the PedsQLTM, respectively. The inter-rater agreement was estimated using Concordance Correlation Coefficients (CCC) and Gwet's Agreement Coefficient (AC1) for the overall sample and across age-groups. RESULTS Agreement was low for overall HRQoL for both the CHU9D (CCC = 0.28) and the PedsQLTM (CCC = 0.39). Across the CHU9D dimensions, agreement was the highest for 'sad' (AC1 = 0.83) and lowest for 'tired' (AC1 = 0.31). The PedsQLTM demonstrated stronger agreement (AC1 = 0.41-0.6) for the physical health dimension but weaker for the psychosocial dimensions (AC1 < 0.4). Except for the 'tired' dimension, agreement was consistent across age-groups with the CHU9D, whilst the PedsQLTM showed poor agreement for most of the psychosocial health items among the older age-groups only (8-10 and 11-12 years). CONCLUSION This study highlights that the agreement between child and parent proxy reported HRQoL may be influenced by both the measure used and the age of the child. These findings may have implications for the economic evaluation of healthcare interventions and services in child populations when both child and proxy perspectives are considered in the assessment of child HRQoL.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the persistence of dimensional measures of inattention in a population-based, gender-balanced sample of adolescents with parent reports of inattention from childhood and self-reports of inattention in adolescence. METHOD Adolescents, 16-19 years old, completed the Adult ADHD Self Report Scale. Their parents completed the Swanson, Nolan, and Pelham Rating Scale-4th Edition when they were 7-9 and 11-13 years old. RESULTS More severe inattention in boys than girls in childhood shifted to a female predominance in adolescence. The correlation between reports of inattention in childhood and adolescence was weak, with parent reports explaining only ~5% of the variance in the inattention score reported in adolescence. CONCLUSION The weak association between inattention in childhood and adolescence is consistent with the emerging challenges associated with being an adolescent, but the impact of shifts in informants, gender and age on symtpom presentations should be investigated in future studies.

Abstract
In the field of qualitative health research on children, scholars have called for the inclusion of children's perspectives. Still, health care research on children appears to be characterized by an exclusionary approach that stems from a conception of disability and sickness as equivalent to a lack of agency. This article responds to the call to include children's perspectives. It presents the Double-view (Dovi)-river interview, which is a drawing- and metaphor-based interview method that enables ambiguous and multi-layered life course narratives. Based on two steps - (1) a life course interview conducted while drawing a river of the child's life and (2) revisiting and unfolding the child's stories - the method allows for an arts-based, joint exploration of life experiences. Inspired by childhood studies as well as a poststructuralist epistemology, the article discusses and proposes ways to challenge power relations between the adult interviewer and the child interviewee. It is argued that the method can also challenge the predominant deficit view and the dichotomous understanding of children's experiences of their life and capabilities that characterize much health care practice and health research, by focusing both on challenges and opportunities. Doing so enables a more nuanced and appreciative approach to children. We draw on empirical examples from a study with children with disabilities. However, we suggest that the method's potential for enabling articulation of the complex and ambiguous can inspire qualitative research and health care practice more broadly.

Abstract
PURPOSE This study examined whether the 12-item self-administered World Health Organization Disability Assessment Schedule (WHODAS) 2.0 demonstrated measurement invariance between young adolescents aged 10-16 years with a physical illness and older adolescents aged 15-19 years from the general population. MATERIALS AND METHODS Young adolescent data come from the baseline wave of the Multimorbidity in Youth across the Life-course study (n = 117) and older adolescent data come from the Canadian Community Health Survey-Mental Health (n = 1851). Multiple-group confirmatory factor analysis was used to test measurement invariance. WHODAS 2.0 scores were compared across morbidity subgroups using multiple regression. RESULTS Measurement invariance of the WHODAS 2.0 was demonstrated: (χ2=635.2(144), p<.001; RMSEA = 0.059 (0.054, 0.064); CFI = 0.967; TLI = 0.970; and, SRMR = 0.068). Adjusting for data source, sex, race, immigrant status, and household income, WHODAS 2.0 scores were associated with morbidity status in a dose-response manner: physical illness only (B = 1.50, p<.001), mental illness only (B = 2.92, p<.001), and physical-mental comorbidity (B = 4.44, p<.001). CONCLUSIONS Measurement invariance of the WHODAS 2.0 suggests that young adolescents interpret the items and disability construct similarly to older adolescents - a group that previously demonstrated measurement invariance with an adult sample. The 12-item self-administered WHODAS 2.0 may be used to measure disability across the life-course. IMPLICATIONS FOR REHABILITATIONThe 12-item self-administered WHODAS 2.0 is one of the most widely used measures of disability and functioning.Measurement invariance of the WHODAS 2.0 suggests that young adolescents interpret the items and disability construct similarly to older adolescents and adults in Canada.Researchers and health professionals can be confident that differences in 12-item self-administered WHODAS 2.0 scores are real and meaningful.The 12-item self-administered WHODAS 2.0 may be used to measure disability across the life-course.

Abstract
PURPOSE This study modelled the factor structure and tested for measurement invariance between youth and parent reports on the 12-item World Health Organization Disability Assessment Schedule (WHODAS) 2.0; estimated agreement between informants; and, examined moderators of youth-parent discrepancies. MATERIALS AND METHODS Data come from the baseline wave of the Multimorbidity in Youth across the Life-course study (n = 117). Multiple-group confirmatory factor analysis was used to test for measurement invariance and Wilcoxon signed-rank tests compared informant scores. Intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) and Bland-Altman limits of agreement plots were used to examine the youth-parent agreement. RESULTS The WHODAS 2.0 demonstrated measurement invariance [χ2 = 221.8(136), p < 0.01; RMSEA = 0.073 (0.055, 0.091); CFI = 0.962; and, SRMR = 0.078]. Youth typically reported more disability compared to parent proxies, with the exception of item Q5 (emotional). The agreement was low (ICC = 0.08-0.53). Youth sex moderated informant agreement such that more consistent agreement was seen for female youth (β = 0.54, p < .01) compared to male youth (β = 0.11, p = .29). CONCLUSIONS Youth and their parents interpret the construct of disability, as measured by the 12-item WHODAS 2.0, similarly. Thus, informant differences represent real differences that are not a consequence of error. Low parent-youth agreement reinforces the need for collecting multiple perspectives in the pediatric setting, especially for male youth.Implications for rehabilitationThe WHODAS 2.0 is one of the most widely used measures of disability and functioning.Measurement invariance of the WHODAS 2.0 suggests that youth and parents interpret the construct of disability similarly.Parent-youth agreement was low and youth typically report more disability compared to parent proxies.More consistent agreement with parents was found for female youth compared to male youth.

Abstract
BACKGROUND In recent decades, 95% of children with congenital heart disease (CHD) can survive to adolescence and adulthood. However, adolescents with CHD are prone to poorer health-related quality of life (HRQoL). It is imperative to develop a reliable and valid instrument for health professionals to monitor the HRQoL. This study aims to: (1) evaluate the psychometric properties of the traditional Chinese version of Pediatric Quality of Life™ 3.0 Cardiac Module (PedsQL-CM) and measurement invariance across adolescents with CHD and their parents; and (2) investigate the adolescent-parent agreement in HRQoL. METHODS A total of 162 adolescents and 162 parents were recruited. Internal consistency was examined using Cronbach's alpha and McDonald's Omega. The criterion-related validity was evaluated with intercorrelations between the PedsQL-CM and PedsQL™ 4.0 Generic Core (PedsQL-GC) Scale. The construct validity was examined by second-order confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). Measurement invariance was evaluated using the multi-group CFA. The adolescent-parent agreement was analyzed with the intraclass correlation (ICC), paired t-tests, and Bland-Altman plots. RESULTS PedsQL-CM showed acceptable internal consistency (self-reports 0.88, proxy-reports 0.91). The intercorrelations were medium to large effect size (self-reports 0.34-0.77, proxy-reports 0.46-0.68). The CFA supported the construct validity (CFI = 0.967, TLI = 0.963, RMSEA = 0.036, 90% CI = 0.026-0.046, SRMR = 0.065). The multi-group CFA proved scalar invariance between self and parent proxy-reports. Parents significantly underestimated their adolescents' HRQoL in cognitive problems (Cohen's d = 0.21) and communication (Cohen's d = 0.23) subscales, while there was a negligible difference in total HRQoL (Cohen's d = 0.16). ICCs were poor to moderate effect size with the highest and lowest agreement in heart problems and treatment subscale (ICC = 0.70) and communication subscale (ICC = 0.27), respectively. The Bland-Altman plots showed lesser variability in the heart problem and treatment subscale and the total scale. CONCLUSION The traditional Chinese version of PedsQL-CM has acceptable psychometric properties to measure disease-specific HRQoL in adolescents with CHD. Parents may be proxies for adolescents with CHD to rate total HRQoL. When the patient-reported score is the primary outcome, the proxy-reported score could serve as a secondary outcome for research and clinical evaluation.

Abstract
To be a parent or a caregiver in a modern society is a very difficult task, including multiple demands and expectations. Parenting imposes a special role in the life of any couple, especially for the mother, roles which must be learned through personal education, enriched by transgenerational experience. Chronic disease is recognized as a large stressor that affects the current situation of a child and a child's family. In this difficult situation, the family must go through a process of learning how to cope with it. In the family, where a child has a long-term health problem, there are certain behaviours that hinder the normal functioning of family relationships. According to the experience of many researchers, including my own, there is an indication that a child's illness often leads to the divorce of the parents. The fathers of sick children are often the initiators of such decisions. The purpose of this article was to find if there are differences in parenting between mothers and fathers of chronically ill children. The methodology is comprised of a review of published articles in PubMed over the last two decades related to parenting when there is chronic illness in children. More than 500 articles related to the topic were found. Obtained results were discussed.

Abstract
Importance Health-related quality of life (HRQOL) is regarded as a key outcome for evaluating treatment efficacy. However, it is uncertain how HRQOL evolves after epilepsy surgery compared with medical therapy, such as whether it continues to improve over time, improves and then remains stable, or deteriorates after a period of time. Objective To assess trajectory of HRQOL over 2 years in children with drug-resistant epilepsy (DRE) treated with surgery compared with medical therapy. Design, Setting, and Participants Prospective cohort study assessing HRQOL longitudinally over 2 years. Participants were children recruited from 8 epilepsy centers in Canada from 2014 to 2019 with suspected DRE aged 4 to 18 years who were evaluated for surgery. Data were analyzed from May 2014 to December 2021. Exposures Epilepsy surgery or medical therapy. Main Outcomes and Measures HRQOL was measured using the Quality of Life in Childhood Epilepsy Questionnaire (QOLCE)-55. HRQOL and seizure frequency were assessed at baseline, 6-month, 1-year, and 2-year follow-ups. Clinical, parent, and family characteristics were assessed at baseline. A linear mixed model was used to evaluate HRQOL over time, adjusting for baseline clinical, parent, and family characteristics. Results There were 111 surgical and 154 medical patients (mean [SD] age at baseline was 11.0 [4.1] years; 118 [45%] were female). At baseline, HRQOL was similar among surgical and medical patients. HRQOL of surgical patients was 3.0 (95% CI, -0.7 to 6.8) points higher at 6-month, 4.9 (95% CI, 0.7 to 9.1) points higher at 1-year, and 5.1 (95% CI, 0.7 to 9.5) points higher at 2-year follow-ups compared with medical patients. Surgical patients experienced greater improvements in social functioning relative to medical patients, but not for cognitive, emotional, and physical functioning. At 2-year follow-up, 72% of surgical patients were seizure-free, compared with 33% of medical patients. Seizure-free patients reported higher HRQOL than those who were not. Conclusions and Relevance This study provided evidence on the association between epilepsy surgery and children's HRQOL, with improvement in HRQOL occurring within the first year and remaining stable 2 years after surgery. By demonstrating that surgery improved seizure freedom and HRQOL, which has downstream effects such as better educational attainment, reduced health care resource utilization, and health care cost, these findings suggest that the high costs of surgery are justified, and that improved access to epilepsy surgery is necessary.

Abstract
Children's risk of poorer mental health due to the COVID-19 pandemic may depend on risk and protective factors heading into the pandemic. This study examined same-day associations between COVID-19 stressors and children's mental health using a daily diary design across 14 days, and considered the moderating roles of pre-pandemic peer victimization experiences and resting respiratory sinus arrhythmia (RSA; an indicator of cardiac regulatory capacity). Forty-nine Canadian children aged 8-13 years (Mage = 10.69, 29 girls) participated in the final wave of a longitudinal study just prior to the pandemic and a daily diary extension during the pandemic (N = 686 pandemic measurement occasions). Multilevel modeling indicated that children had poorer mental health on days when they experienced a COVID-19 stressor (e.g., virtual academic difficulties, social isolation). A three-way interaction indicated that this association was stronger for those with higher pre-pandemic peer victimization experiences and lower pre-pandemic resting RSA; however, highly victimized children with higher resting RSA did not experience poorer mental health on days with COVID-19 stressors. Findings offer preliminary insights into the preceding risk and protective factors for children's mental health amidst major subsequent stress.

Abstract
IMPORTANCE In light of the promising neuroprotective properties of recombinant human erythropoietin (RHEpo), the Swiss EPO Neuroprotection Trial was started to investigate its effect on neurodevelopment in very preterm infants. The results of the primary and secondary outcome analysis did not show any effect of RHEpo on cognitive performance, neuromotor outcomes, or somatic growth of the study participants at ages 2 or 5 years. OBJECTIVE To investigate whether early high-dose RHEpo improves behavioral outcomes and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) at age 5 years. DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS This was a prespecified secondary analysis of the double-blind, placebo-controlled, multicenter Swiss EPO Neuroprotection randomized clinical trial, which was conducted at 5 level-III perinatal centers in Switzerland. Infants born between 26 weeks 0 days' and 31 weeks 6 days' gestation were recruited between 2005 and 2012 and followed-up until age 5 years (last follow-up in 2018). Data were analyzed from January 6 to December 31, 2021. INTERVENTIONS Infants were assigned to receive either RHEpo (3000 IU/kg) or placebo (saline, 0.9%) intravenously 3 times within the first 42 hours after birth. MAIN OUTCOMES AND MEASURES The prespecified parent-reported measures of behavioral outcomes and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) of their children at the age of 5 years were assessed by two standardized questionnaires: the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (behavioral outcomes) and the KIDSCREEN-27 (HRQoL). RESULTS Among 448 randomized infants, 228 infants were assigned to the RHEpo group and 220 infants were assigned to the placebo group. Questionnaire data were available for 317 children (71%) at a mean (SD) age of 5.8 (0.4) years (mean [SD] gestational age at birth, 29.3 [1.6] weeks; mean [SD] birth weight 1220 [340] grams; 128 [40%] female infants). At the age 5 years follow-up, the mean (SD) total difficulties score in the RHEpo group (8.41 [5.60] points) was similar to that of the placebo group (7.76 [4.81]) (P = .37). There were no statistically significant differences between the groups in any other outcome measures. CONCLUSIONS AND RELEVANCE This secondary analysis of a randomized clinical trial showed no evidence for an effect of early high-dose RHEpo administration on behavioral outcomes or HRQoL in children born very preterm at early school age. Abstract
Aim: Considering the role of the parent in the children and adolescent's access to treatment, it is important that the symptoms are adequately noticed by the parents. In this study, it was aimed to examine the adolescent-parent agreement in terms of symptoms of adolescents with anxiety disorder.
Material and Method: 100 adolescents who applied to the child and adolescent psychiatry outpatient clinic and were diagnosed with anxiety disorder according to the DSM-5 diagnostic criteria were included in the study. In the study, the sociodemographic form and the Revised Child Anxiety and Depression Scale (RCADS) adolescent and parent form were used for data collection.
Results: When the parent and adolescent forms of RCADS were compared, the adolescent scores were significantly higher than the parents in all subscales and scale total scores, except for the separation anxiety subscale. The ICC (95% CI) value between the parent and adolescent forms of RCADS ranged from 0.06 to 0.74.
Conclusion: In our study, it was found that adolescents scored their symptoms higher than their parents, and the correlation between parent-child reporting was low-moderate. Age, gender, comorbidity, and parental psychopathology were among the factors affecting adolescent-parent agreement.

Abstract
The present study examines to what extent two core characteristics of the quality of life (QoL) construct were incorporated in the field of autism: (1) its subjective nature; and (2) its multidimensionality. Therefore, we reviewed 174 articles examining QoL in individuals with autism. The review showed parents reporting a lower QoL compared with autistic individuals themselves, especially on internal domains. This may suggest different expectations about what a good QoL may entail. Such an underestimation of QoL by others is commonly observed in individuals with disabilities (the so-called 'disability paradox'). For the multidimensionality of the QoL construct, our findings suggest that the narrower (and more unidimensional) construct of health-related QoL is often measured instead of QoL. Additionally, a substantial proportion of items did not measure QoL, but they evaluated characteristics that may or may not have an impact on QoL. Researchers and clinicians should be aware that QoL domains are selected and operationalized differently by different instruments. QoL may benefit from an exclusive focus on subjective aspects, which can be measured alongside more normative, objective characteristics of individuals or their environment.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Increased body weight has been associated with reduced muscle wasting in the early catabolic phase after a severe burn. Yet, overweight and obese non-burn children often exhibit impaired musculoskeletal function, which may lead to poor physical function (PF). We aimed to determine the association between body mass index (BMI) at discharge and self-reported PF and caregiver proxy-reported PF during recovery of burned children. MATERIALS AND METHODS This is a retrospective multisite longitudinal study in paediatric burn patients ((8-17 y old at time of burn). PF outcome measures were self-reported mobility, proxy-reported mobility, and upper extremity PF evaluated using PROMIS measures at 6-, 12-, and 24-months after injury. Primary exposure variable was BMI-for-age at discharge. RESULTS A total of 118 paediatric patients, aged 11.7 ± 3.3 y, with burns covering 37.6 ± 18.8% of their total body surface area (TBSA) and BMI-for-age of 23.1 ± 5.4 kg/m2 at discharge were analyzed. BMI at discharge was not significantly associated with self-reported mobility scores 6 months after burn (beta coefficient =-0.23, p = 0.31), had a positive effect on mobility at 12 months (beta = 0.46, p = 0.05), and no effect at 24 months after injury (beta=-0.10, p = 0.60), when adjusted for burn size. BMI did not have a significant effect on proxy-reported mobility or upper extremity PF. CONCLUSION A greater BMI at discharge was associated with improved self-reported PF at 12 months after burn but not at 6 months or 24 months, which suggests a faster recovery of PF in paediatric patients of larger body weight. Our data suggests that a larger body weight does not compromise the recovery of PF after burn.

Abstract
Background Congenital heart disease (CHD) is the most common congenital anomaly at birth, affecting approximately 1% of live births. In recent decades great medical and surgical advances have significantly increased life expectancy, shifting healthcare professionals' and researchers’ interests in patients' Quality of Life (QoL). The main aims of our study were to evaluate generic and condition-specific QoL in a group of Italian children and adolescents with CHD and their parents and examine the level of agreement and directional disagreement between child/adolescent and parents reports on generic and condition-specific QoL.
Methods A cross-sectional study was designed with CHD children and adolescents and their parents referred to the Cardiology Department of “Bambino Gesù” Children’s Hospital. The PedsQL scale was used, including generic (PedsQL 4.0) and cardiac-specific modules (PedsQL 3.0) were administered to patients and caregivers. A Kruskal–Wallis test was used to compare generic and cardiac module scores between patients with different ages, CHD diagnoses, and between patients who underwent surgery interventions and/or are currently taking cardiac medications.
Results 498 families were enrolled in this study. On average, patients reported a good level of generic and condition-specific QoL, as well as their mothers and fathers. Children aged between 5–7 years old reported lower generic and cardiac-specific total QoL levels than children aged 8–12 years and adolescents (13–18 years). With regard to the agreement, patient-parent agreement on condition-specific QoL ranged from 25 to 75% while on generic QoL, it ranged from 19 to 76%. The highest percentage of disagreement between parents and children was found in patients aged 5–7 years old, both for condition-specific and generic QoL rates. Conclusions Our study contributed to the growing body of knowledge on QoL in CHD, emphasizing the need for these families to receive support from multidisciplinary standardized care, including psychological consultations and support. Abstract
BACKGROUND Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in adolescence is associated with functional impairment in several domains of life. To enable development of interventions that more effectively target functional impairment in this age group, the associations between clinical characteristics and impairment need to be clarified. The aim of this study was to investigate the associations between ADHD and functional impairment, if they varied by sex, and the potential impact of comorbid psychiatric symptoms on the associations. METHODS This was a cross-sectional study including adolescents with ADHD (n = 164) and a reference group of adolescents without ADHD (n = 106). Self-ratings and parental ratings of functional impairment in different life domains were used as outcomes in all analyses. Differences between groups were investigated with comparative analyses. General linear models (GLMs) were used to explore associations between ADHD symptoms and functional impairment in adolescents with ADHD, while adjusting for of comorbid symptoms, sex, and medication. RESULTS Adolescents with ADHD displayed higher levels of functional impairment than peers without ADHD, and girls with ADHD rated higher impairment than their male counterparts. The combined ADHD presentation was associated with the highest levels of self-reported impairment, while parental ratings indicated comparable levels of overall impairment across presentations. In the adjusted GLMs, symptoms of inattention were strongly associated with self- and parent-rated impairment in school, but symptoms of hyperactivity/impulsivity were not, whereas symptoms of both inattention and hyperactivity/impulsivity were modestly associated with self-rated impairment with friends. Further, both emotional and conduct problems were associated with impairment in daily life. CONCLUSIONS Our results suggest that attention difficulties, in particular, seem to impair academic functioning in adolescents with ADHD, and interventions targeting such difficulties are warranted. In addition, comorbid symptoms need to be assessed and treated, and self-reports of functioning should be included in research and clinical practice involving adolescents.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Transgender (TG) children and adolescents experience problems in school as well as with family and social relationships that can adversely affect their physical and psychosocial health and impair their quality of life (QoL). This study aimed to assess health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in TG children. METHODS We performed a cross-sectional study comparing HRQoL in gender non-conforming (Trans) and gender-conforming (CIS) children and adolescents using the Spanish version of KIDSCREEN-52 in 120 Chilean Trans and CIS children (aged 8-18 years) and their parents. All scores were standardized according to the KIDSCREEN manual. RESULTS Among the 100 questionnaires answered, 38 corresponded to children and adolescents aged 8.4-18 years. Twenty-one of them were TG (71% trans males) and 17 were CIS (76% females). Sixty-two parents answered the questionnaires: 33 from families of TG children (PTrans) and 29 from families of CIS children (PCis). Trans children had lower HRQoL scores in all domains than CIS children. The lowest-scoring domains for TG children were "Moods and Emotions," "Psychological Well-Being" and "Social Acceptance," and the highest-scoring domain was "School Environment." The PTrans group had significantly higher scores than the Trans group for 3 of the 10 domains: "Psychological Well-Being," "Moods and Emotions," and "Parent Relations and Home Life." CONCLUSION Our results revealed that TG children and adolescents have lower QoL than their CIS counterparts, especially regarding items related to mental health. Furthermore, their parents may underestimate their well-being, confirming the vulnerability of the TG population. This finding underlies the need to perform early assessments of QoL for early detection and intervention in aspects that could deteriorate their quality of life.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Parents pity their amblyopic child when they think that they suffer from occlusion therapy. We measured health-related quality of life during occlusion therapy. METHODS We developed the Amblyopia Parents and Children Occlusion Questionnaire (APCOQ). It was designed by a focus group of patients, orthoptists and ophthalmologists and consisted of twelve items concerning skin contact of patch, activities, contact with other children, emotions and awareness of necessity to patch. Parents filled out the Proxy Version shortly before the Child Version was obtained from their child. Child Version item scores were compared with Proxy Version item scores and related to the child's age, visual acuity, refraction, angle of strabismus, and cause of amblyopia. RESULTS 63 children were recruited by orthoptists, and their parents agreed to participate. Three children were excluded: one child with Down-syndrome, one child with cerebral palsy, and one child who had been treated by occlusion therapy. Included were 60 children (mean age 4.57 ± 1.34 SD) and 56 parents. Children had occluded 128 ± 45 SD days at interview. Prior to occlusion, 54 children had worn glasses. Cronbach's α was 0.74 for the Child Version and 0.76 for the Proxy Version. Children judged their quality of life better than their parents did, especially pertaining to skin contact and activities like games and watching TV. Notably, 13 children with initial visual acuity ≥ 0.6 logMAR in the amblyopic eye experienced little trouble with games during occlusion. Quality of life in eight children with strabismus of five years and older correlated negatively (Spearman rank mean rho = -0.43) with angle of strabismus. Children with amblyopia due to both refractive error and strabismus (n = 14) had, relatively, lowest quality of life, also according to their parents, as proxy. Several children did not know why they wore a patch, contrary to what their parents thought. CONCLUSIONS Children's quality of life during occlusion therapy is affected less than their parents think, especially regarding skin contact, playing games and watching TV during occlusion. Quality of life correlates negatively with the angle of strabismus in children five years and older. Children do not know why they wear a patch, contrary to what their parents think. Notably, children with low visual acuity in the amblyopic eye, had little difficulty playing games.

Abstract
Introduction The expectations individuals hold about the future can influence the decisions they make toward achieving their goals. Existing research suggests parents of autistic adolescents hold expectations about the future that are significantly related to the postsecondary outcomes they achieve. However, less research exists about the adolescents' own expectations and the extent to which autistic adolescents and their parents agree about the future. Methods We used a scoring procedure to "quantitize" semi-structured interview data about what 46 adolescent-parent dyads envisioned for the future of the autistic adolescent across three areas of adulthood (postsecondary education, employment, and living situation). Adolescents ranged in age from 13-19 years (85.1% male) and were able to participate in a verbal interview. We scored the dyads' interviews on the extent to which they agreed or disagreed about the postsecondary future of the adolescent, as well as whose expectations were higher (when they differed). Results Proportions of agreement and disagreement did not significantly differ, demonstrating moderate agreement. Notably, fewer than half (37.0-47.8%) of adolescents and their parents partly or strongly agreed about their visions for the future in each of the three areas. Only 17.4% of dyads partly or strongly agreed across all three areas, and 23.9% did not agree in any area. When adolescents' and parents' views differed, adolescents were significantly more likely to have a higher expectation across all three areas (ps < 0.01). Conclusions Future research is needed to examine differences in autistic adolescents' and parents' visions of the future, and to explore interventions to support families to work toward shared goals for the future. This study contributes to a growing body of literature emphasizing the importance of including the perspectives of autistic adolescents in research and for them to have an active and substantial role in their own transition planning.

Abstract
BACKGROUND There is no Kenyan evidence on the relationship between mental illness and academic performance. We aimed to determine the effect of life skills training on mental health and academic performance. METHODS We administered to 1848 primary school children a researcher designed socio-demographic questionnaire, and the Youth Self Report (YSR) and Child Behavior Checklist (CBCL) to their parents, followed by eight sessions of life skills training. We extracted data from the individual records of each child on overall performance pre and post training separated by one year. We conducted descriptive statistics, paired sample t-tests, multivariate linear regression analysis and linear mixed model analysis to assess changing patterns of academic performance and any predictive characteristics. RESULTS There was significant (p < 0.05) improvement in overall academic performance (aggregate marks and all individual subjects) for both lower primary and upper primary classes after the life-skills training intervention. For lower classes (2-4 grades) increase in academic performance was significantly associated with fathers and mothers education levels, region and class. For upper classes, (5-7 grades) increase in academic performance was associated with region, class and age. CONCLUSIONS Life skills training is recommended as it could improve academic performance, but predicted by socio-demographic factors.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To explore how caregivers' (birth parents, adoptive parents, relative caregivers, and unrelated caregivers) depressive symptoms moderate the concordance between their and their youth's assessment of the youth's physical health symptoms, diseases, and physical health status. METHODS Participants included 224 youth with mean age of 18.0 years (SD = 1.3) and their caregivers. Multiple-group models were run to test whether caregiver depression status moderated the concordance between youth and caregiver report of physical health outcomes. Models compared caregivers above the mean for depression in the sample (n = 62) with caregivers below the mean for depression in this sample (n = 128). RESULTS There was a strong correlation between youth and caregiver report of pain in the last 30 days and physical health status in the caregiver group with no/fewer depressive symptoms [r (128) = 0.29, p = 0.04; r (128) = 0.59, p < 0.01], but no significant correlation between the two in the caregiver group with higher depressive symptoms [r (62) = - 0.27, p = 0.27; r (62) = - 0.14, p = 0.57]. CONCLUSIONS FOR PRACTICE Higher caregiver depressive symptoms was associated with worse concordance between caregiver and youth assessment of the youth's pain and physical health status. These two health issues are less visible and more subjective and communication between caregiver and youth may be affected by the caregiver's depressive symptoms. Since both caregiver and youth assessments of a youth's physical health provide the best clinical data, it may be helpful for health providers to assess caregiver's mental health status to provide a more complete picture.

Abstract
PURPOSE This study examined health-related quality of life (HRQL) in children across different physical illnesses; estimated parent-child agreement on HRQL reports; compared HRQL between children with and without physical-mental multimorbidity; and tested if multimorbidity was associated with HRQL. METHODS Children aged 6-16 years (mean = 11.1; n = 198) with one physical illness and their parents were recruited from a pediatric hospital. Physical illnesses were classified according to the International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems (ICD)-10, mental illnesses were assessed using the Mini International Neuropsychiatric Interview for Children and Adolescents, and HRQL was measured using the KIDSCREEN-27. Children who screened positive for ≥ 1 mental illness were classified as having physical-mental multimorbidity. χ2/t tests compared sample characteristics of children with vs. without multimorbidity; Kruskal-Wallis tests compared KIDSCREEN-27 scores across ICD-10 categories; interclass correlation coefficients estimated parent-child agreement; and multiple regression examined effects of the number of mental illnesses on HRQL. RESULTS HRQL was similar across ICD-10 categories. Parent-child agreement was fair to good for all HRQL domains, regardless of multimorbidity status. Parent-reported HRQL was significantly lower for children with multimorbidity compared to norms across all domains, whereas child-reported HRQL was significantly lower for physical well-being, psychological well-being, and school environment. Number of mental illnesses was negatively associated with psychological well-being and school environment in a dose-response manner. CONCLUSION Children with physical-mental multimorbidity are vulnerable to experiencing lower HRQL, particularly for psychological well-being and school environment. Longitudinal studies documenting trajectories of HRQL and school-based interventions that target these domains of HRQL for children with multimorbidity are warranted.

Abstract
Purpose: Adolescents with cerebral palsy may need a feeding tube due to feeding challenges, since nutritional intake and mealtimes may be negatively affected. The purpose of the study was to describe and better understand how one adolescent with cerebral palsy and her parents experienced mealtimes before and after a nasogastric and gastrostomy tube insertion and how the use of these feeding tubes was experienced in daily life. Methods: Individual interviews were performed with one adolescent and each of her parents. In total, six interviews were conducted on two separate occasions. The qualitative approach known as Interpretive Description was used during the analysis. Results: Four thematic patterns were identified within the data: (i) struggling with nutritional intake, (ii) the paradox of using an aid, (iii) being different, and (iv) challenges of public mealtimes. Conclusions: The results showed that four themes influenced daily mealtimes in adolescents with cerebral palsy and a gastrostomy tube. Nutritional intake and mealtimes may be difficult, which is why using a gastrostomy tube can be a relief. However, the gastrostomy tube can also pose a challenge and a paradox. Time of change and acceptance seems necessary in order to meet these challenges.

Abstract
CONTEXT There are no validated Spanish tools to assess symptom burden in pediatric cancer. The Pediatric Memorial Symptom Assessment Scale (Pediatric-MSAS) is an English valid multidimensional and comprehensive instrument. OBJECTIVES To validate Pediatric-MSAS-Spanish (MSAS-Child, MSAS-Teen, and MSAS-Caregiver versions) in patients with cancer treated in two public hospitals in Buenos Aires, Argentina. METHODS Cross-sectional study, classical psychometric theory. We recruited a convenience sample of 148 caregivers of children ≥ two years, 51 young children (seven to 12 years), and 48 adolescents (≥13 years). We assessed feasibility, comprehensibility, internal consistency, and convergent and known-groups validity. RESULTS Pediatric-MSAS-Spanish was feasible, acceptable, and comprehensible. Reliability of MSAS-total and subscale scores was satisfactory (Cronbach alpha: 0.90, 0.89, 0.71, respectively, for caregiver, teen, and child MSAS-total score). MSAS-total caregiver, teen, and child scores met a priori criteria for convergent validity correlating with Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory total scores (Spearman correlation (rs) = -0.59, -0.66, and -0.32, respectively) and visual -analogue well-being scores (rs = -0.63, -0.46, and -0.4, respectively). Caregiver-teen correlation was strong for total (rs = 0.78) and physical (rs = 0.85) scores, and moderate for global distress index (rs = 0.64) and psychological (rs = 0.45) scores. MSAS-total caregiver-child correlation was moderate (rs = 0.30) and Kappa analysis showed poor agreement. All MSAS-Caregiver scores and MSAS-Teen total and physical scores differentiated inpatients/outpatients and patients on/off-treatment, while MSAS-Teen psychological and global distress index subscales or MSAS-Child scores did not. CONCLUSION Pediatric-MSAS-Spanish is feasible and reliable for assessing symptom burden in children with cancer. Validity of MSAS-Caregiver and MSAS-Teen was largely supported. Further work on MSAS-Child is warranted.

Abstract
Meta-analytic methods were used to examine ADHD-related risk-taking in children and adults, and to compare the magnitude of risk taking across behavioral, self-report, and virtual reality metrics. Potential moderators of effect size heterogeneity were also examined via a three-level multi-level approach and a hybrid meta-analytic/systematic review approach. Aggregated effect sizes obtained from 56 behavioral-task studies (82 effect sizes; ADHDN = 2577; TDN = 2606), 51 self-report studies (130 effect sizes; ADHDN = 18,641; TDN = 113,163), and 8 virtual reality studies (16 effect sizes; ADHDN = 382; TDN = 436) suggest that children and adults with ADHD exhibit moderately more risk-taking compared to children and adults without the disorder. Notably, the aggregated effect size obtained from virtual reality simulations (Hedges', g = 0.43) was 30-40% larger than effect sizes obtained from self-report and behavioral task metrics (Hedges' g = 0.31 and 0.27), respectively. Suboptimal Decision Making was the only significant moderator identified via multi-level modeling; however, comparison of subgroup effect sizes revealed potential moderating effects of ADHD presentation and trial-by-trial feedback on behavioral tasks. Collectively, findings suggest that ADHD is reliably associated with small to moderate magnitude greater risk-taking behavior and virtual reality simulations appear be the most sensitive currently available metric.

METHODS Agreement on the revised children's anxiety and depression scale (RCADs) was assessed between parents and children with CFS/ME (n = 93) using Bland-Altman plots, cross tabulations and regression analyses. RESULTS Diagnostic thresholds were met more frequently based on child-report. Parent- and child-report had similar sensitivity and specificity on RCADS compared to gold-standard diagnostic interviews. Regression analysis found similar accuracy between both reports. For anxiety diagnoses, odds ratio (OR) for child-report was 1.10 (CI = 1.06-1.14), and 1.10 (CI = 1.05-1.14) for parent-report. For depression, OR for child report was 1.26 (CI = 1.11-1.43), while for parent-report is was 1.25 (CI = 1.10-1.41). For total score, OR for child-report was 1.10 (CI = 1.05-1.13) while OR for parent-report was 1.09 (CI = 1.05-1.13). CONCLUSIONS Reasonable agreement was observed between parent- and child-report of mental health symptoms in paediatric CFS/ME. While parent-report can facilitate psychological evaluation in CFS/ME, this is not a substitute for a child's own report.

Agreement between proxy- and self-report scores on PROMIS health-related quality of life domains in pediatric burn survivors: a National Institute on Disability, Independent Living, and Rehabilitation Research Burn Model System Study. Abstract
PURPOSE To examine agreement between pediatric burn survivor self- and caregiver proxy-report on multiple PROMIS domains and examine factors associated with differences between self- and proxy-reports. METHODS Children 8-17 years of age and their caregivers completed PROMIS measures (physical function, depression, peer relationships, pain interference, and anger) between 6 months and 15 years after injury. Self- and proxy-report scores were compared using Wilcoxon sign rank test, Cohen's effect size, and intraclass correlation coefficients (ICC) and by agreement across severity of symptoms based on recommended cutoffs. Ordinary least squares regression analyses examined child- (self-report score, age, gender, and ethnicity) and proxy-related (relationship to child) factors associated with score differences. RESULTS Two hundred and seventy four child-caregiver pairs completed the PROMIS measures. Mean child age was 13.0 (SD:3) years. Caregivers reported significantly worse scores than the child on physical function, pain, and anger (all p ≤ 0.01). The effect sizes were small across all domains except physical function. Similarly, ICCs were all of moderate agreement. The percentage of dyads in agreement by severity groups was high with only 5%-9% of pairs discordant. Only higher self-report score was associated (all p < 0.05) with greater differences across all domains in regression analyses. CONCLUSIONS This study supports the use of pediatric proxy PROMIS depression, physical function, peer relationships, pain interference, and anger scales in pediatric burn patients. Although agreement was moderate to good, assessing proxy-report alone as a surrogate should only be considered when self-report is not possible or practical. Caregivers typically report slightly worse severity of symptoms than children across all domains.

Abstract
Despite the availability of evidence-based treatment models for adolescent behavior problems, little is known about the effectiveness of these programs for adolescents with callous-unemotional (CU) traits. Defined by lack of empathy, lack of guilt, flattened affect and lack of caring, CU traits have been linked to long-term anti-social behavior and unfavorable treatment outcomes and might be negatively related to outcomes in evidence-based programs such as Functional Family Therapy (FFT). This study used a single-group pre-post evaluation design with a sample of 407 adolescents (49.1% female, mean age = 14.4 years, SD = 1.9) receiving FFT to investigate whether outcomes in FFT are predicted by CU traits and to what extent reliable changes in CU traits can be observed. The results showed that although CU traits are related to increased problem severity at baseline, they predicted neither treatment dropout nor post-treatment externalizing behavior and family functioning. CU traits were related to diminished improvement ratings, in particular with respect to parental supervision. Reductions in CU traits were observed across the time of treatment, and these were most profound among adolescents with elevated levels of CU traits at baseline. Further research should investigate whether certain evidence-based treatment components are more suited for adolescents with CU, and if the addition of specific intervention elements for reducing CU-traits could further improve outcomes for this high-risk population.

Abstract
Background This study aimed at investigating the possible confounding effect of children’s gender on the parents’ dyads perception of their child HRQoL at both item and scale levels of PedsQLTM4.0 questionnaire. Methods The PedsQL™ 4.0 Generic Core Scales were completed by 573 children and their father-and-mother dyads. An iterative hybrid ordinal logistic regression/item response theory model with Monte Carlo simulation was used to detect differential item functioning (DIF) invariance across mothers/fathers and daughter/sons. Results Assessing DIF across mother–daughter, father–daughter, mother–son, and father–son dyads revealed that although parents and their children perceived the meaning of some items of PedsQLTM4.0 instrument differently, the pattern of fathers’ and mothers’ report does not vary much across daughters and sons. Conclusion In the Persian version of PedsQLTM4.0, the child’s gender is not a confounding factor in the mothers’ and fathers’ report with respect to their daughters’ and sons’ HRQoL. Hence, paternal proxy-reports can be included in studies, along with maternal proxy-reports, and the reports can be combined short of concerning children gender, when looking at parent–child agreement.

Abstract
Aim The aim of this study was to investigate the predictive role of marital satisfaction on similarities in parenting styles. Design The present cross-sectional study was conducted on 617 Iranian father-mother dyads in 2018. Methods During a systematic sampling method, Afrooz Marital Satisfaction Scale and Parenting Styles and Dimensions Questionnaire were administered. The data were analysed using a t test, a chi-square test, one-way ANOVA and logistic regression. Results Results showed that 71.47% of the couples exhibited agreement in parenting styles and that 82.50% reared their children in an authoritative manner. The logistic regression indicated that increased marital satisfaction among fathers (AOR: 3.19; CI: 2.06, 4.92) and mothers (AOR: 2.74; CI: 1.76, 4.25) could elevate the odds of correspondence in parenting styles. The findings suggest that agreement on parenting styles should be considered when evaluating marital satisfaction in couples. Intervention targeting marital satisfaction to improve parental agreement is recommended.

Abstract
AbstractThe Inventory of Callous-Unemotional traits (ICU) is a widely used measure of the affective aspects of psychopathy in children and adolescents. Although a 3-bifactor model of the ICU has often been supported, method-variance effects and mixed results for the Unemotional subscale raise concerns. This study applied a multi-informant design to investigate the structural and concurrent validity of the self-, parent- and teacher-versions of the ICU in a Norwegian at-risk adolescent sample (N = 160, female = 46.3%, mean age = 14.73 years, SD = 1.47). Confirmatory Factor Analysis demonstrated method-variance effects of the standard- and reverse-scored items. The best fitting model was the 12-item 2-factor ICU, comprising a Callousness and an Uncaring factor. The scale reliabilities were acceptable with Cronbach alphas ranging from .810 to .906 across respondent groups. Cross-rater reliability was poor, with Intra Class Correlations ranging from .170 to .226. The concurrent validity of the ICU12 was supported by within-rater associations to externalizing problems, aggression, and problematic alcohol use. Cross-rater associations of ICU12-scores to self-reported delinquency and lower levels of anxiety, provided additional support for the concurrent validity. The unidimensional ICU12 total score was associated both to delinquency and rule-breaking behavior as observed for the Callousness factor and to lack of anxiety and reduced fear sensitivity as observed for the Uncaring factor. The ICU items aimed at capturing lack of prosocial emotions, seem to need revision. Future research should assess the predictive validity and clinical relevance of unidimensional versus factor models of the ICU.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The purpose of this study was to translate and transculturally adapt the original English version of the Oxford Ankle Foot Questionnaire (OAFQ) into a Korean version, and to evaluate its psychometric properties. METHODS A Korean OAFQ for children was developed according to established guidelines. To test validity, 169 consecutive patients with foot and ankle problems and their caregivers each completed the OAFQ. The children also completed a Korean version of the KIDSCREEN-52 health related quality of life questionnaire (KIDSCREEN-52 HRQOL). To validate the Korean version of the OAFQ, reliability (child-parent agreement and internal consistency), feasibility (floor and ceiling effects), and construct validity were evaluated, and factor analysis was performed. RESULTS In terms of reliability, Cronbach's α values were > 0.7 in all subscales of the OAFQ (0.765 to 0.901). Child-parent agreement was confirmed by high intraclass correlation coefficients for all subscales (0.791 to 0.863). In terms of construct validity, there were moderate correlations between the subscales of the OAFQ and the subscales of the KIDSCREEN-52 HRQOL. Factor analysis revealed a three-component solution for both the child/adolescent and parent-proxy version, by combining the school and play, and footwear items into one subscale. In terms of feasibility, no floor effects were found for all subscales. However, ceiling effects were observed for the school and play, and emotional subscales for child/adolescent and parent-proxy versions. CONCLUSIONS The OAFQ was successfully translated and transculturally adapted into the Korean language; the Korean version of the OAFQ represents a reliable and valid instrument for evaluating children's foot or ankle problems. However, factor analysis suggested the use of a three-subscale questionnaire.

Abstract
BACKGROUND We aim to assess the levels of agreement between parents, as proxies, and Jamaican adolescents living with sickle cell disease (SCD) in the reporting of the adolescent's quality of life. PROCEDURES This cross-sectional study assessed 102 patient/proxy pairs on quality of life of adolescents with SCD using the PedsQL-SCD module. The level of agreement among pairs was assessed starting with broad group-level approaches (the Wilcoxon signed-rank test augmented by exploring percentage agreement) tapering to individual-level approaches (intraclass correlation coefficients [ICCs] supplemented with Bland-Altman plots). RESULTS Most patients (76.5%) had homozygous SS disease (45.1% females; mean age 15.2 ± 1.5 years). Median total pediatric quality of life (PedsQL) scores were 79.1 (adolescent report) and 80.2 (parental report) (P = .60). There were 11.8% underestimation and 12.7% overestimation of overall health-related quality of life (HRQOL) by parents. The highest perfect agreement existed on the "pain and hurt" domain for both male and female adolescents (85.7% and 84.4%, respectively). Overestimation was highest on the "social communication" domain for both male and female adolescents (19.6% and 34.8%, respectively). Parents exhibited good agreement on total PedsQL scores in male adolescents (ICC = 0.70), but moderate agreement (ICC = 0.43) in female adolescents. Generally, parents underestimated their male child's functioning and overestimated the female child's functioning on the various domains. CONCLUSIONS Parents and adolescents exhibit fair agreement in assessment of the adolescent's overall HRQOL but differ on subjective domains. Agreement varies by sex of the affected teen where girls' HRQOL is generally overestimated by the parental proxy. Interventions to improve parents' understanding of their children's psychosocial needs are needed.

Abstract
Eye-gaze technology allows individuals with severe physical disabilities and complex communication needs to control a computer or other devices with eye-gaze, thereby enabling them to communicate and participate in society. To date, most research on eye-gaze controlled devices related to persons with disabilities has focused on a single diagnosis in either adults or children and has included only a few participants. This current study utilized a total population survey to identify the prevalence and perceived usability of eye-gaze technology among adults and children in Sweden. Participants were 171 eye-gaze technology users with severe physical and communication impairments, ranging between 4 and 81 years. Cerebral palsy was the most common diagnosis. Daily usage was found in 63%, while 33% had weekly, and 4% had less frequent usage. Adults, compared with children, reported using their computers more frequently (65%/38%; p < 0.01), and for the activities they needed to perform (59%/31%; p < 0.01) and were more satisfied with services, indicating that service providers should prioritize and develop more effective services for children and their parents.

Abstract
Purpose This study aimed to examine health-related quality of life (HRQoL) of children and their parents, 6 months after the child’s admission to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). Associations between parents’ reports regarding HRQoL of their child and of themselves were investigated, as well as associations between children’s baseline variables and their parent-reported HRQoL outcomes. Methods This is a secondary analysis of cross-sectional data collected in a group of children who participated in the PEPaNIC trial. Six months after discharge from the PICU, parents of critically ill children completed the Infant–Toddler Quality of Life Questionnaire (ITQOL, for age 0–3 years) or the Child Health Questionnaire-Parent Form 50 (CHQ-PF50, for age 4–18 years), which are parallel questionnaires. Parents completed the Short Form Health Survey (SF-12) regarding their own HRQoL. Results were compared with normative data. Results At 6 months’ follow-up, 86 children of the 1343 (6%) had died which resulted in 1257 eligible children. Parents of 576 surviving children (46%) completed the questionnaires. Children of responding parents had less often an acute reason for admission and differed in diagnosis compared with children of non-responders. PICU children scored lower on most ITQOL (n = 390) scales and CHQ-PF50 (n = 186) scales compared with normative data. Parents reported (n = 570) higher scores on the physical (p < 0.001) and lower scores on the mental SF-12 scale (p < 0.001) compared with normative data. Parents̕ mental HRQoL correlated with HRQoL they reported for their child (Pearson Correlations range 0.25–0.57, p < 0.001–0.002). Shorter length of stay, lower risk of mortality, younger age, and cardiac diagnosis were associated with higher parent-reported HRQoL outcomes for the child. Conclusions Six months after PICU discharge, critically ill children have lower HRQoL compared with normative data. The mental component of HRQoL is impaired in parents and is associated with lower overall parent-reported HRQoL of their child. Abstract
BACKGROUND The diagnosis of depression in adolescents relies on identifying the presence of specific core and additional symptoms. Symptoms can be identified using structured or unstructured interviews and a range of questionnaire measures, which are completed by the young person and by a parent or carer. The aim of this research was to examine the inter- and intra-rater reliability of parent report and adolescent self-report of depression symptoms. METHOD In a sample of parent-child dyads, where young people aged 13-17 were referred to a mental health service for depression, we examined adolescents' (n = 46) and parents' (n = 46) independent responses to the Schedule for Affective Disorders and Schizophrenia in School-Age Children (Journal of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, 36, 1997, 980) and the Mood and Feelings Questionnaire (Journal of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, 27, 1988, 726). RESULTS In the clinical interview, diagnostic criteria were more often met based on the adolescent's report, and adolescents endorsed more symptoms of depression than their parents. Tentative results also suggest that parent-child agreement about specific symptoms was low. Comparing different measures of depression revealed that adolescent report on the questionnaire and interview was significantly correlated. However, there was no significant correlation between parent questionnaire and interview report. CONCLUSION These results suggest that relying solely on parents to identify depression in their children may result in young people with depression being missed and therefore untreated. Young people themselves should be encouraged and enabled to recognise the symptoms of depression and have an established pathway to services that offer assessment and treatment. Key Practitioner Message Diagnosis of depression in adolescents requires the identification of specific symptoms and can be identified using interviews or questionnaires. Previous research has suggested that parents and young people provide differing reports regarding symptoms of adolescent depression. Results indicated that diagnostic criteria were more often met based on young person report and that parents reported significantly less symptoms. Parent-child agreement about specific symptoms was found to be low. Assessment of adolescent depression should not rely solely on parental report. Young people should be encouraged and enabled to recognise symptoms of depression and be able to access mental health services.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Adolescent pre-visit screening on patient-generated health data is a common and efficient practice to guide clinical decision making. However, proxy informants (eg, parents or caregivers) often complete these forms, which may lead to incorrect information or lack of confidentiality. Our objective was to improve the adolescent self-report rate on pre-visit screening. METHODS We conducted an interventional study using an interrupted time series design to compare adolescent self-report rates (percent of adolescents ages 12-18 years completing their own pre-visit screening) over 16 months in general pediatric ambulatory clinics. We collected data using a computerized clinical decision support system with waiting room electronic tablet screening. Preintervention rates were low, and we created and implemented 2 electronic workflow alerts, one each to the patient/caregiver and clinical staff, reminding them that the adolescent should answer the questions independently. We included the first encounter from each adolescent and evaluated changes in adolescent self-reporting between pre- and postintervention periods using interrupted time series analysis. RESULTS Patients or caregivers completed 2670 qualifying pre-visit screenings across 19 preintervention, 7 intervention, and 44 postintervention weeks. Self-reporting by younger adolescents nearly doubled, with a significant increase of 19.3 percentage points (confidence interval [CI], 9.1-29.5) from the baseline 20.5%. Among older adolescents, the stable baseline rate of 53.6% increased by 9.2 absolute percentage points (CI, -7.0 to 25.3). There were no significant pre- or postintervention secular trends. CONCLUSIONS Two automated alerts directing clinic personnel and families to have adolescents self-report significantly and sustainably improved younger adolescent self-reporting on electronic patient-generated health data instruments.

Abstract
Background The concepts of disease, illness and sickness capture fundamentally different aspects of phenomena related to human ailments and healthcare. The philosophy and theory of medicine are making manifold efforts to capture the essence and normative implications of these concepts. In parallel, socio-empirical studies on patients’ understanding of their situation have yielded a comprehensive body of knowledge regarding subjective perspectives on health-related statuses. Although both scientific fields provide varied valuable insights, they have not been strongly linked to each other. Therefore, the article aims to scrutinise the normative-ethical implications of patient perspectives in building a bridge to the empirical ethics debates. Main text Three potential fields of tension between the illness and the disease perspective are presented. Consequently, findings from empirical research examining patient perspectives on illness are displayed and the practical implications and associated ethical issues which arise are discussed. This leads to the conclusion that an explicit and elaborate empirical-ethical methodology is needed to deal appropriately with the complex interaction between patients’ views and the medico-professional view of disease. Kon’s four-stage model of normative-empirical collaboration is then applied against the background of empirical data on patient perceptions. Starting from this exemplary approach, the article suggests employing empirical-ethical frameworks for further research on the conceptual and normative issues, as they help to integrate perspectives from the philosophy of medicine with socio-empirical research. Conclusion The combination of theoretical and empirical perspectives suggested contributes to a more nuanced discussion of the normative impact of patients’ actual understanding of illness. Further empirical research in this area would profit from explicitly considering potential ethical issues to avoid naturalistic fallacies or crypto-normative conclusions that may compromise healthcare practice. Vice versa, medico-theoretical debates could be enriched by integrating subjective views of those people who are immediately affected.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Life quality has become a widely used concept within rehabilitation and occupational therapy practice. AIM This study explored child and parent perspectives of life quality of children with physical impairments compared with a group of non-disabled children. METHOD Data were collected with the Icelandic self- and proxy-reported versions of the KIDSCREEN-27. For children with physical impairments, reports from 34 children and 40 parents were included in the analyses, and in control group reports from 429 children and 450 parents were included. RESULTS Children with physical impairments evaluated their life quality within the average range on four out of five life quality dimensions. The lowest scores were within the physical well-being dimension. Self-reported scores of children with physical impairments were higher than those of their parents on all dimensions except autonomy and parent relations. Thus, the parents considered more environmental and personal factors to negatively influence their child's life quality than children did themselves. CONCLUSION Children with physical impairments experience their life quality similarly to non-disabled children. SIGNIFICANCE Focus on life quality can help occupational therapists to identify what circumstances positively or negatively influence client well-being and to focus more on contextual factors that contribute to disablement.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Malignant disorders in childhood are life-threatening conditions, and issues regarding the children's health-related quality of life (HRQOL) are crucial in paediatric oncology. The overall aim of this study was to explore HRQOL in children with cancer in two countries, Argentina and Sweden, which have different cultural contexts. The specific aims were: to determine HRQOL by gender, age, diagnosis, treatment modality, time since diagnosis, and parental education/employment across cultures. Further aims were to assess the child/parent relationship in HRQOL and the influence of demographic variables in psychosocial and physical HRQOL in each country. METHODS A cross-sectional study was performed in 2014, including 58 children (24 females, 34 males) and 62 parents/guardians. The instrument, the Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory™ (PedsQL™, generic, cancer and fatigue modules), and medical records were used. The response rate was 97%. RESULTS The mean age of the children was 8.67 years (SD 5.1, range 2-18 years) and the mean time on treatment was 10.7 months (SD 8.7, range 1-30 months). The most common diagnosis was leukaemia (57%). In Argentina, in comparison with Sweden, a higher estimation of generic HRQOL was reported among adolescents (p = 0.022) and more cancer-related problems among school-age children (p < 0.0001). Children and parents in both countries confirmed the major problem with fatigue and multimodality therapy regimes, but lower levels of fatigue were reported in Argentina. Adolescents and children with solid tumours appeared as vulnerable groups. In Sweden, children whose mothers had post-secondary education reported less cancer-related problems (p = 0.031). Good relationships were found between child/parent reports in Argentina regarding the fatigue module (p = 0.034) and physical subscale (p = 0.014), and in Sweden regarding generic health (p = 0.004), including psychosocial (p = 0.006) and physical subscales (p = 0.042), and cancer (p = 0.001), and fatigue (p < 0.0001) modules. In Sweden, psychosocial health (OR 7.5; p = 0.007) and physical health (OR 6.2; p = 0.011) were positively influenced by being a school-age child. CONCLUSIONS Fatigue is as a major problem across cultures. Still, being in school facilitates recovery. Good relationships in psychosocial HRQOL highlight professional challenges regarding severe issues and open communication, and the need of performing comparative studies of HRQOL of children with cancer from different cultural backgrounds.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) could play an important role in identifying patients' needs and goals in clinical encounters, improving communication and decision-making with clinicians, while making care more patient-centred. Comprehensive evidence that PROMS are an effective intervention is lacking in single randomised controlled trials (RCTs). METHODS A systematic search was performed using controlled vocabulary related to the terms: clinical care setting and patient-reported outcome. English language studies were included if they were a RCT with a PROM as an intervention in a patient population. Included studies were analysed and their methodologic quality was appraised using the Cochrane Risk of Bias tool. The protocol was registered with PROSPERO (CRD42016034182). RESULTS Of 4302 articles initially identified, 115 underwent full-text review resulting in 22 studies reporting on 25 comparisons. The majority of included studies were conducted in USA (11), among cancer patients (11), with adult participants only (20). Statistically significant and robust improvements were reported in the pre-specified outcomes of the process of care (2) and health care (3). Additionally, five, eight and three statistically significant but possibly non-robust findings were reported in the process of care, health and patient satisfaction outcomes, respectively. CONCLUSIONS Overall, studies that compared PROM to standard care either reported a positive effect or were not powered to find pre-specified differences. There is justification for the use of a PROM as part of standard care, but further adequately powered studies on their use in different contexts are necessary for a more comprehensive evidence base.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Conventionally, PFAPA syndrome is considered as a benign disease compared to other recurrent fevers because it completely passes before adulthood. However, in our clinical practice, fever episodes have a huge impact on daily activities. METHODS Observational cohort study using the Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory (PedsQL™ 4.0) Generic Core and Fatigue Scales. PedsQL™ uses a modular approach to measure the HRQOL in children with acute and chronic health conditions. We used pediatric FMF patients as the control group. RESULTS We included 33 children with PFAPA and compared them to 27 FMF patients matched for age: preschool-age children (2 to 7 years) and school-age children and youths (8 to18 years). PedsQL™ self-reported scores of children with PFAPA were systematically lower than those of FMF peers for general quality of life and physical and psychosocial functioning (significant only in the preschool-age group). PedsQL™ self-reported fatigue scores of children with PFAPA were significantly lower than those of FMF peers for both preschoolers and school-age children and youths. Parent proxy-reports were not significantly different, even though scores were systematically lower for the parents of PFAPA children. CONCLUSION Our study demonstrates, for the first time, that the wellbeing of PFAPA children is poor, with a major impact on psychosocial functioning and increased fatigue. The quality of life of PFAPA children appears to be even lower than that of FMF patients, for whom a lower than normal HRQOL has already been demonstrated.
