Abstract
BACKGROUND Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is one of the most widespread neurobehavioral problems during childhood. A child's personal health record (PHR) plays an important role in the controlled routine monitoring of ADHD symptom improvement. Along with the advantages, the convenience offered by mobile technology, and the ubiquity of smartphones in contemporary society, there is a compelling need for PHR to be available in the form of a mobile app. OBJECTIVE This study aims to identify stakeholder needs, followed by designing, developing, testing, and evaluating a mobile-based PHR in the context of pediatric ADHD management. METHODS This study will adopt an action research design structured into 4 stages: diagnosing, planning, taking, and evaluating action. Stakeholders, including parents, pediatricians, occupational therapists, clinical psychologists, and teachers, will participate actively. In stage 1, stakeholder requirements for the mobile-based PHR will be explored through in-depth interviews, focus group discussions (FGDs), and document reviews. Thematic analysis will be used to identify key needs and challenges. In stage 2, a systematic literature review will be conducted to enhance user requirements analysis by synthesizing insights from existing mobile apps for pediatric ADHD management. A mobile-based PHR prototype will be designed and developed based on user requirements enhanced with systematic review results. In stage 3, the prototype will undergo a 6-week trial with participants to evaluate its functionality and address any identified issues. In stage 4, both quantitative and qualitative methods will be used to assess the app's usability and quality. The System Usability Scale (SUS) and the User Version of the Mobile App Rating Scale (uMARS) will be used for quantitative evaluation, while interviews and FGDs will be conducted for qualitative evaluation. RESULTS This study commenced in October 2024. As of December 2024, 13 participants (n=5, 38.5%, parents; n=2, 15.4%, pediatricians; n=2, 15.4%, occupational therapists; n=2, 15.4%, clinical psychologists; and n=2, 15.4%, teachers) have been enrolled, meeting the minimum participant requirements for stage 1. Stage 1 was completed at the end of 2024, with stage 2 expected to be completed by September 2025, stage 3 by December 2025, and stage 4 by February 2026. The findings from each stage will inform iterative refinements to the mobile-based PHR. The final results, including usability and quality assessments, are anticipated for publication by the middle of 2026. CONCLUSIONS This study protocol outlines a pivotal initiative to enhance the management of pediatric ADHD. By using an action research methodology and actively engaging stakeholders, the study aims to contribute significantly to the field. The iterative cycles of the research seek to develop a mobile-based PHR that is not only user friendly but also effective and uniquely attuned to the diverse needs of those involved in pediatric ADHD care. Abstract
QUESTION What are the experiences and needs of parents of children and young people (CYP) aged 5-18 with diagnosed mental health difficulties, particularly in relation to the parents' own well-being? STUDY SELECTION AND ANALYSIS A systematic review with thematic meta-synthesis was conducted, including qualitative studies published in English. Seven databases were searched (MEDLINE, PsycINFO, CINAHL Ultimate, AMED, EMBASE, Web of Science and Cochrane Library) from inception to September 2024. Studies focused on parents of CYP aged 5-18 years, where the CYP had a confirmed mental health diagnosis. FINDINGS Of 75 862 screened studies, 46 met inclusion criteria. Six overarching themes were identified: support needs and gaps; impact on everyday life; altered family dynamics; parental worries and fears; emotional experience of caregivers and self-care paradox. Parents face significant challenges, including unmet support needs from healthcare and education systems, substantial impacts on daily life and altered family dynamics. Emotional experiences such as worry, guilt and stigma were pervasive, compounded by systemic gaps in information and resources. Parents often prioritise their child's needs over their own, creating barriers to self-care. These challenges were consistent across diagnoses but heightened in cases of life-threatening conditions like eating disorders and depression. CONCLUSIONS The findings highlight support needs for parents of CYP with mental health difficulties. Tailored interventions, better professional training and family centred care are needed. Future research should focus on developing theoretical models of parental distress to guide interventions and inform support mechanisms that mitigate these broad impacts on parents' well-being.

Abstract
Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) occurs in 5.9% of youth, impacting their health and social conditions often across their lifespan. Currently, early diagnosis is constrained by clinical complexity and limited resources of professionals to conduct evaluations. Scalable methods for ADHD screening are thus needed. Recently, digital epidemiology and biometry, such as the visual, emotional, or digit pathway, have examined brain dysfunction in ADHD individuals. However, whether biometry can support screening for ADHD symptoms using a multimodal tech system is still unknown. The EPIDIA4Kids study aims to create objective measures, i.e., biometrics, that will provide a comprehensive transdiagnostic picture of individuals with ADHD, aligning with current evidence for comorbid presentations. Twenty-four children aged 7 to 12 years performed gamified tasks on an unmodified tablet using the XAI4Kids® multimodal system, which allows extraction of biometrics (eye-, digit-, and emotion-tracking) from video and touch events using machine learning. Neuropsychological assessments and questionnaires were administered to provide ADHD-related measures. Each ADHD-related measure was evaluated with each biometric using linear mixed-effects models. In contrast to neuro-assessments, only two digit-tracking features had age and sex effects (p < 0.001) among the biometrics. Biometric constructs were predictors of working memory (p < 0.0001) and processing speed (p < 0.0001) and, to a lower extent, visuo-spatial skills (p = 0.003), inattention (p = 0.04), or achievement (p = 0.04), where multimodalities are crucial to capture several symptomatology dimensions. These results illustrate the potential of multimodality biometry gathered from a tablet as a viable and scalable transdiagnostic approach for screening ADHD symptomatology and improving accessibility to specialized professionals. Larger populations including clinically diagnosed ADHD will be needed for further validation.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To examine the experiences of Australian parents raising primary school-aged children with ADHD and gather feedback on a proposed ADHD parenting program. METHODS Reflexive thematic analysis of semi-structured interviews undertaken with 11 Australian parents of 7- to 11-year-old children with ADHD. Interviews were conducted over Webex, audio recorded, transcribed verbatim, and analyzed in NVivo Ltd. software. RESULTS We identified four themes: (1) "I love my child but their ADHD traits are challenging," (2) "Compliance, control, and completion," (3) "It's hard, burdensome, and exhausting and I can feel like I'm alone," and (4) "What a welcome relief." CONCLUSION Parents report that although raising neurotypical children is difficult, the presence of childhood ADHD increases the emotional and support burden placed on them. Parents were also very interested in and supportive of the proposed ADHD parenting program. The program aims to enhance parents' understanding of the neurocognitive implications of ADHD and to foster secure parent-child attachment, attuned parental responsiveness, and age-appropriate development of traits that promote well-being, adaption and recovery in people with ADHD.).

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Elevated attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) symptoms in preschoolers are a risk factor for poorer psychiatric health, cognitive deficits, and social and academic impairment across the lifespan. The first-line treatment for these preschoolers, behavioral parent training (BPT), reduces children's disruptive behaviors and parenting stress, yet its impact on core ADHD symptoms is inconsistent. Early interventions targeting biological mechanisms linked to core ADHD pathophysiology are critically needed. METHODS This topical review explores sleep dysregulation as a potential key target for early intervention for ADHD symptoms among preschoolers. RESULTS Sleep dysregulation is common in school-aged children with ADHD, and treating sleep improves core ADHD symptoms in older children. Cross-sectional and prospective research with preschoolers offers compelling evidence that sleep dysregulation and ADHD symptoms are closely linked over the course of early development. BPT and behavioral sleep medicine (BSM) interventions share an underlying theoretical framework and could be streamlined to target sleep in addition to daytime behaviors. CONCLUSIONS Novel early interventions targeting underlying biological mechanisms linked to core ADHD pathophysiology are critically needed to improve the trajectories of ADHD symptoms, comorbidity, and functional deficits for preschoolers with elevated ADHD symptoms. Sleep regulation is a promising mechanistic treatment target for this population, and future interventions may draw from the shared behavioral principles of BPT and BSM to target behaviors across the 24-hr period and employ scalable formats to optimize the number of families who can benefit from parent-based interventions targeting ADHD symptoms and sleep in early development.

Abstract
Neurofibromatosis 1 (NF1) and attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) are distinct conditions with similarities in developmental course. Research suggests that neurodivergent processes in both conditions begin in the first year, altering infant behaviour and how parents respond, over time reducing social-communicative opportunities for social brain development. This study aimed to investigate parent-infant interactions in both groups relative to typically developing infants (TD) at 10 and 14 months. We hypothesised that the infants with NF1 and infants at elevated likelihood of ADHD (EL-ADHD) would show less attentiveness to their parent and less mutual parent-infant interaction relative to TD controls, that attentiveness-to-parent would be particularly low in infants with NF1, and that liveliness and negative affect would be higher in infants with EL-ADHD. Parents and their infants with NF1, EL-ADHD and TD were videotaped during free play interactions and coded using validated rating scales. The two non-TD groups differed in their interactive patterns from the TD group and each other in ways somewhat consistent with the early behaviours that characterise each group. The NF1 group showed relatively less mutual interactions than the EL-ADHD group, and less parental sensitive responsiveness and parental directiveness than the TD group, while EL-ADHD infants were livelier and showed less negative affect relative to the other groups. Most main effects persisted over time. While longer-term follow-up in larger samples is needed, our findings highlight how children with neurodevelopmental conditions that are not primarily characterised by social communication difficulties may nonetheless come to have distinct social experiences in the first year of life.

Abstract
LAY ABSTRACT Children with neurodevelopmental conditions like autism and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder may experience eating difficulties and related health issues later in life. Sharing family meals can help prevent these issues developing, but most studies have looked at families with neurotypical children. Our goal was to learn more about how families of children with autism, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and both conditions (autism + attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) experience mealtimes. We developed an online survey asking caregivers about their child's eating, mealtime experience and if they experienced stress. We tested it with nine caregivers and made improvements based on their feedback before recruiting 351 caregivers to complete the main survey. We found that families of children with neurodevelopmental conditions experienced greater food fussiness, emotional undereating, 'problematic' child mealtime behaviours, dietary concerns, higher stress for caregivers and spouses and less frequent conventionally structured mealtimes compared to those without these conditions. Families of children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and autism + attention deficit hyperactivity disorder reported greater appetite, 'problematic' mealtime behaviours and increased stress for caregivers and spouses compared to families of children with autism. Meanwhile, families of children with autism and autism + attention deficit hyperactivity disorder reported less enjoyment of food and less structured mealtimes compared to those with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. Our findings highlight that families of children with neurodevelopmental conditions, particularly those with autism + attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, have different mealtime experiences and eating behaviours compared to those with neurotypical children. These families may benefit from support at mealtimes. Learning why people do or do not participate in shared family meals will be crucial to developing improved mealtime support in the future.

Abstract
The October 7th events precipitated an unprecedented psychological crisis for Israeli families, particularly affecting parents of children with special needs. This empirical study aimed to investigate the psychological factors contributing to parental stress and mental health outcomes in a community sample of 2097 parents, comparing those with children with special needs (n = 540) to those with typically developing children (n = 1557). Findings revealed that parents of children with special needs exhibited significantly higher levels of attachment anxiety and avoidance, parental stress, and intolerance of uncertainty, while reporting lower levels of parental competence, perceived social support, and mental health. Notably, meaning in life did not significantly differ between the groups. Correlational analyses indicated that attachment anxiety and avoidance were negatively correlated with parental competence, social support, meaning in life, and mental health while positively correlating with parental stress and intolerance of uncertainty. Mediation analyses showed that attachment anxiety and avoidance significantly predicted increased parental stress and reduced mental health, with these effects mediated by lower parental competence and diminished meaning in life. Moreover, intolerance of uncertainty mediated the effect of attachment anxiety on mental health. However, the mediating role of perceived social support on parental stress was absent among parents of children with special needs. These findings underscore the need for targeted interventions that bolster parental resilience, particularly for families of children with special needs during times of crisis.

Abstract
Raising your child with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in Jordan is a challenge due to the prevailing behavioral concerns, low availability of specialized care, and generalized feelings of social stigma. This phenomenological study involved twelve Jordanian parents of children aged 4-14 years, all diagnosed with ADHD according to DSM-IV-TR criteria. Participants were recruited through purposive sampling, and semi-structured interviews were conducted. Thematic analysis revealed three key themes: "The Journey through ADHD," in which parents recognized the abnormalities of their children, reported suffering during the diagnosis, and described a wide range of uncertainty regarding the diagnosis and treatments. The second theme was "Disease as part of life," where parents reported the impact on family dynamics and social life. The third theme was "Caregiving burden," reflecting physical and emotional exhaustion and financial burden. Jordanian parents caring for children with ADHD face several challenges, including physical, emotional, economic, and social challenges and limited access to specialized services. Identifying their unique needs and challenges is essential in supporting them, providing appropriate services and resources, and developing policies and guidelines for culturally competent quality services.

Abstract
Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) are the most prevalent neurodevelopmental disorders. There is a growing body of literature investigating factors affecting quality of life in families (FQoL) with a child with these disorders. However, there are no studies that trace their knowledge anatomy. Thus, we conducted a scientometric analysis to describe this literature, detect certain variables that could be related to FQoL, and identify tendencies and open questions for future research. A literature search in the Web of Science, PubMed, and Scopus was run and identified 3281 publications published between 1975 and 2022. The results suggest an increase in the quantity of publications on FQoL in ASD and ADHD over the last few years (14% and 12%, respectively). For both research fields, the USA published the highest number of documents, showing that the production related to ADHD and FQoL is concentrated in just a few countries. Thematic analysis revealed several clusters, considering quality of life and children as core themes that are still setting trend lines. Moreover, it would be worthwhile to describe and analyze FQoL not only during the childhood of children with ASD and ADHD but also during their adolescence. IMPACT: Although the relationship between family quality of life and neurodevelopmental disorders could be considered novel, there is a growing interest from an interdisciplinary perspective. Family quality of life should be monitored not only during the childhood of children with ASD and ADHD, but also during their adolescence and adulthood. The analysis of the family quality of life in first-degree relatives and its relationship with protective factors (e.g., resilience and social support) should be explored in future studies.

Abstract
Over a quarter of children with Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) meet diagnostic criteria for an anxiety disorder as well. The goals of this paper are (a) to examine what is currently known about co-occurring ADHD and anxiety in children, (b) propose and outline underlying factors relevant to the development of anxiety in children with ADHD, and (c) discuss future directions and clinical implications for the prevention and identification of anxiety development in children with ADHD. It is proposed that certain associated features of ADHD (i.e., low effortful control and emotion dysregulation) as well as various interpersonal factors related to ADHD (i.e., poor parent, teacher, and peer relationships) form a negative feedback loop that increases susceptibility to anxiety in a subset of children with ADHD. The literature supports interrelations between and across the associated features and interpersonal factors. Additional research is needed to test the validity of the proposed process. Obtaining further insight into the interplay between these different factors can help identify a subset of children with ADHD who are at risk for developing anxiety, which can enhance the precision of prevention, assessment, and treatment efforts for these children.

Abstract
Autistic/ADHD individuals are increasingly recognised as a valid minority group, with consistent research demonstrating a higher prevalence of co-occurring mental health conditions such as PTSD, anxiety, depression, substance use, and eating disorders among other mental health challenges. Due to this, there is increasing focus on the adaptations required for Autistic and ADHD individuals of current therapeutic approaches such as Schema Therapy. Particular emphasis when creating these adaptations needs to include looking at the developmental experiences, social influences, and continued adversity faced by Autistic and ADHD individuals across the lifespan, and how the narrative around Autism and ADHD within psychotherapy in general needs to change. This paper critically examines the role of attachment, unmet needs, and adverse childhood experiences in Autistic and ADHD individuals and the subsequent impact on schema development and maintenance and mental health. This will include an overview of the current literature in this area, reconsideration of understandings of Autism and ADHD, particular therapeutic considerations and adjustments and importantly discussion around the wider societal changes that need to occur to prevent schema development and reinforcement across the lifespan.

Abstract
This study aimed to examine the opinions of parents with children diagnosed with attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder about genetic tests. A total of 540 parents living in Turkey participated in the study face-to-face and online. A questionnaire form prepared by the researchers was used as the data collection instrument. Face-to-face data were collected in different institutions in the cities of İzmir, Bursa and Antalya, while online data were collected through Google Forms. The results revealed that parents' views on genetic testing differed according to the sex and age of the child, as well as the parents' level of education and income, and whether the parents had genetic testing during pregnancy (p < 0.05). In the analysis, it was determined that parents' knowledge and awareness levels about genetic tests were generally low, while parents who reported that they would consider having genetic tests had concerns about the storage of their DNA materials, family conflicts that could be caused by genetic tests, and the compatibility of genetic tests with their religious beliefs.

Abstract
Children with congenital heart disease are more likely to receive special educational services in schools and have an increased risk of mental health issues. We explored the lived experiences of parents caring for a child with heart disease and concurrent mental health issues in Denmark. Semi-structured interviews with ten parents (age 39-57 years) to these children (age 5-17 years) were analysed using interpretative phenomenological analysis. Three Group Experiential Themes (GETs) were generated from the analysis: The first GET, Parental roles and caring behaviours, described parental struggles of fulfilling their parenting role ideals and experiences with stigmatization of MHI. GET two, Parental reflections on their illness explanations, portrayed how parents utilize different illness explanations to make sense of their child's MHI. GET three, Differences in access to help and support, captured how the CHD affected overall access to mental health support. The results may inform various topics of importance for health professionals to address in their clinical encounters with these families.

Abstract
Objective: Child-oriented psychotherapies, such as Attention Process Training (APT), target ADHD symptoms directly, whereas family-oriented interventions, like Parent Management Training (PMT), address its functional impairments. The aim of this study was to compare the effectiveness of APT and PMT in treating ADHD symptoms. Method : This research was a randomized controlled trial in which 45 children (26 females and 19 males, with a mean age of 8.47 ± 1.66 years) with ADHD were selected conveniently and assigned randomly to one of three groups (PMT = 15, APT = 15, and CTRL = 15). The groups had no significant differences in ADHD severity. The PMT children were managed with parenting techniques. Children in the APT group practiced attention techniques, while children in the control group did not receive any intervention. Ritalin was prescribed to all the children in the three groups. The score on the Conners Parenting Rating Scale-Revised: Short form was the outcome variable. Results: Both interventions decreased ADHD symptoms severity more than the control group. Howver, the reduction in the APT group was more than in the PMT group (P-value < 0.001). The scores of 40% of the APT group and 80% of the PMT group did not fall below the cut-off point. In the APT group after the intervention, the inattention subscale was significantly lower than the hyperactivity subscale, while in the PMT group, the hyperactivity subscale was lower. The effect sizes of APT and PMT were 2.18 and 2.09, respectively. Conclusion: For ADHD, psychological interventions are crucial in addition to medication. According to the results of this study, APT is more effective for inattention symptoms, while PMT is more effective for hyperactivity symptoms. When selecting psychotherapy, the subtype of ADHD should be taken into account. Treatment sessions must also be completed according to intervention protocols.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a prevalent neurodevelopmental condition in children in Saudi Arabia. ADHD significantly impacts children and their families, particularly by increasing parental stress and diminishing quality of life. In Saudi Arabia, there is a research gap regarding the quality of life and coping mechanisms of parents managing children with ADHD. This study assesses levels of depression and anxiety, quality of life, and coping strategies among parents of children diagnosed with ADHD. METHODS We conducted a cross-sectional online survey with 151 parents of ADHD-diagnosed children, utilizing the WHOQOL-Brief for life quality, the Brief-COPE for coping strategies, and the Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ) for depression (PHQ9-9 items) and generalized anxiety (GAD7-7 items) modules. RESULTS Among the parents surveyed, 36% reported moderate to severe depression, while 39.1% experienced moderate to high anxiety levels. Quality of life was significantly positively correlated with higher household monthly income (HHI), employment status, sibling count, and effective coping strategies. Conversely, a parent's age, educational level, and, in particular, maternal status were inversely related to anxiety levels, with fathers displaying higher maladaptive coping scores. CONCLUSION This study sheds light on the considerable anxiety and depression experienced by parents of children with ADHD, significantly affecting their quality of life. Lower quality of life among parents is associated with high levels of depression, anxiety, and ineffective coping strategies. These insights highlight the critical need for interventions to aid parental mental health, thereby improving their overall quality of life amidst ADHD challenges.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES In 2018, approximately 2.3 million children in the United States had unmet healthcare needs (UHCN). To date, studies examining associations between UHCN and parent stress and support have had limited generalizability. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between children's UHCN and parenting stress and support using a nationally representative sample. Additionally, this study aimed to assess associations between unmet mental health needs and these parental well-being measures. METHODS Households with children ages 0-17 and complete data on UHCN in the combined 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019 cohorts of the National Survey of Children's Health (NSCH) met inclusion criteria. Logistic regressions were used to evaluate associations between overall UHCN and outcome measures of parental coping, aggravation, emotional support, and neighborhood support. Associations between mental UHCN and these outcome measures were analyzed in a subset limited to children with mental health conditions. Regressions were adjusted for potential confounders, including demographics, household income, medical home status, and health insurance (adequacy/type). RESULTS In our sample of 131,299 children, overall UHCN were associated with poorer parental coping (aOR = 5.35, 95% CI: [3.60, 7.95]), greater parental aggravation (aOR = 3.35, 95% CI: [2.73, 4.12]), and non-supportive neighborhood (aOR = 2.22, 95% CI: [1.86, 2.65]). Mental UHCN were similarly associated with parental coping and aggravation and neighborhood support in the mental health subset. CONCLUSIONS FOR PRACTICE Healthcare professionals must address the needs of children with UHCN and collaborate with community organizations and child advocates to promote coordinated and comprehensive care and adequately support caregivers.

Abstract
Introduction Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) affects up to 5% of the population and is characterised by symptoms of impulsivity, hyperactivity and inattention. These symptoms are significantly impairing and carry additional risks for children and adults with ADHD, including negative mental health (e.g. depression), physical health (e.g. obesity) and societal outcomes (e.g. imprisonment, divorce). Very few studies have attempted to synthesise these risks in one publication due to the breadth of evidence published on the adverse outcomes of ADHD. Methods An umbrella review was performed to identify reviews (systematic, meta-analysis and narrative) that investigate the risks arising from having ADHD. We conducted a narrative synthesis of the findings and conducted a quality review of the included publications. Results Upon searching five databases, 16,675 records were identified. Of these, 125 reviews met the criteria for inclusion. A narrative synthesis of these findings highlighted three key domains of risks associated with ADHD: mental health, physical health, social and lifestyle. Most reviews were of good and moderate quality. Discussion This review highlights the many risks associated with having ADHD, beyond its three key symptom domains and the impact of the condition on daily functioning. Abstract
BACKGROUND Scholars from multiple fields have shown that parents raising a child with mental and behavioral health concerns (MBHC) need additional support. We need parents to self-identify necessary supports as a basis for intervention planning. OBJECTIVES In this study, we examined what parents say they need from professionals to support their families. METHODOLOGY Occupational therapy faculty and students employed a strengths-based coaching approach to conduct a focus group with five parents. We conducted qualitative thematic analysis and used inductive coding to identify themes related to unmet self-identified needs of families. We refined themes through an iterative process and achieved 93% agreement after three rounds of coding. RESULTS Four themes emerged from the transcript analysis: External Control, Internal Competence, Relating to Others, and Role of Self-Care. CONCLUSION Professionals must consider the unique needs identified by parents who have children with MBHC when planning interventions within our education and health care systems.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is one of the most common neurodevelopmental disorders in children. This study aims to systematically synthesize the literature on service utilization and costs for children with ADHD. METHODS The search included 9 databases for peer-reviewed primary studies in English from 2007 to 2023. Two independent reviewers conducted title/abstract and full-text screenings and quality assessment. Meta-analysis was conducted on direct medical costs. RESULTS Thirty-two studies were included. Children with ADHD have used more pharmaceuticals, mental health, and special education services than children without ADHD (counterparts). Nevertheless, one study found that children with ADHD were twice as likely to have unmet health needs than their counterparts. Annual health system costs per patient were highly varied and higher in children with ADHD ($722-$11 555) than their counterparts ($179-$3646). From a societal perspective, children with ADHD were associated with higher costs ($162-$18 340) than their counterparts ($0-2540). The overall weighted mean direct medical cost was $5319 for children with ADHD compared with $1152 for their counterparts when all studies with different sample sizes were considered together, with the difference being $4167. Limited literature on productivity losses associated with ADHD reported them as a substantial cost. ADHD in children had a "large" effect on the increment of direct medical costs. CONCLUSIONS ADHD was associated with increased service utilization and costs. However, unmet health needs or underuse among children with ADHD was also evident. Governments should endeavor to improve access to effective services for children with ADHD to mitigate the impact of ADHD.

Abstract
BACKGROUND There is a dearth of evidence regarding physical health problems and health risk behaviours (e.g., drinking, physical inactivity, smoking, and suboptimal sleep behaviour) in caregivers of children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder or autism spectrum disorder (CCAA). The purposes of the current study were to examine differences in physical health problems between CCAA and caregivers of children without attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and autism spectrum disorder (CCWAA) and to explore health risk behaviours associated with those problems. METHOD Data from the 2016-2018 National Health Interview Survey were used in the current study. 10 common physical health problems were compared between CCAA and CCWAA by using multivariable logistic regressions. In addition, in order to detect associated health risk behaviours, decision tree analysis was performed for physical health problems in CCAA. RESULTS Of the 10 physical health problems, caregivers of children with ADHD showed significantly higher likelihood of experiencing nine (arthritis, asthma, back pain, high cholesterol, diabetes, heart problems, hypertension, neck pain, obesity), compared to CCWAA. Caregivers of children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) showed significantly higher likelihoods of experiencing two physical health problems compared to CCWAA. The decision tree analysis revealed that age (> 42 years), and suboptimal sleep behaviour (not 7-8 hours), and smoking (current smoker) were the frequent predictors for physical health problems in CCAA. CONCLUSION The results of the current study represent an important milestone in further investigating physical health problems in CCAA.

Abstract
PURPOSE Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is currently the most prevalent childhood psychiatric diagnosis. This article reports how 10 young adults in Norway positioned themselves before they were diagnosed with ADHD either during early childhood or adolescence. A central theme is how these subject-positions relate to societal norms and mental well-being. METHOD Individual interviews were conducted, and the transcriptions of the interviews were analysed according to discourse theory. RESULT Six central subject positions were identified which in turn related to two major positions: 1) failure with schoolwork and 2) struggle in social interaction. The findings indicated specific emotional and environmental needs and that individuals were confronted with societal norms related to the criteria for ADHD prior to and regardless of whether one had received a formal diagnosis. CONCLUSION We argue that analysing subject positions provides important knowledge regarding ADHD that is useful for individuals, parents, teachers, practitioners, policymakers, and helping professionals in the field of mental health and education when it comes to interventions that support children who possess different temperaments.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To explore the effect of health promotion program (HPP) on stress, quality of life, health-promoting lifestyles, and children's attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) symptoms in parents of children with ADHD. METHODS Sixty parents of children with ADHD were equally randomized into the intervention (health promotion program) and control (usual care) groups. Outcomes included parents' stress, quality of life, health-promoting lifestyles, and children's ADHD symptoms before, immediately after, and 1, 3, and 6 months after the intervention. The GEE was used to evaluate the effectiveness. RESULTS The intervention group reported significant improvement in the children's hyperactivity/impulse and opposition at the 6- and 3-month, respectively. Parental overall stress significantly improved at 3 and 6 months. Parents' quality of life had significant effects at the immediate, 3-month, and 6-month. Self-actualization behavior for health-promoting lifestyles had significant effects at the immediate follow-up. CONCLUSION HPP can promote the mental well-being of parents of children with ADHD.

Abstract
BACKGROUND/PURPOSE Hopelessness can compromise caregivers' mental health and impede their ability to take care of their child with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). The study aimed to explore the associations of hopelessness with caregiver depression and anxiety in caregivers of children with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Additionally, the study examined the associations of child demographics, ADHD and oppositional defiance symptoms, and caregiver demographics, parenting stress, and affiliate stigma with hopelessness. METHODS The study included 213 caregivers of children with ADHD who completed various assessments. Caregiver hopelessness was assessed using the Beck Hopelessness Scale, while child ADHD and oppositional defiance symptoms were assessed using the Parent Form of the Swanson, Nolan, and Pelham Scale, Version IV. Parenting stress was measured using the Parenting Stress Index, Fourth Edition Short Form (PSI-4-SF), and affiliate stigma using the Affiliate Stigma Scale. Hierarchical regression analysis was used to investigate the multidimensional factors associated with caregiver hopelessness. RESULTS Caregiver hopelessness was significantly linked to caregiver depression and anxiety. Child inattention, caregiver parenting stress, and affiliate stigma were significantly associated with caregiver hopelessness. A higher level of affiliate stigma increased the association between child inattention and caregiver hopelessness. CONCLUSION These findings suggest that it is necessary to develop intervention programs for alleviating the sense of hopelessness among caregivers of children with ADHD. Such programs should focus on addressing child inattention, caregiver parenting stress, and affiliate stigma.

Abstract
Research indicates strong connections between child ADHD, child ODD/CD, and sleep. Children experiencing these concerns also have caregivers who report feeling more stress. However, no studies have examined how child ADHD and ODD/CD interact together and with insufficient sleep to potentially exacerbate caregiver stress. Data were acquired from the 2018/2019 National Survey of Children's Health, a nationally representative survey of parents or caregivers conducted across the United States (U.S.). The current study used data for children 6-17 years old with a final analytic sample size of 41,541, representing a total of 47,357,862 U.S. youth. Overall child ADHD and ODD/CD were each uniquely associated with increased caregiver stress, while adequate child sleep duration was related to decreased caregiver stress. However, these findings were qualified by a significant two-way interaction that revealed that caregiver stress among children with comorbid ADHD and ODD/CD was not significantly greater than that of children with ODD/CD alone. Significant interactions between sleep and ODD/CD on caregiver stress were generally not observed, except potentially in females with ADHD. Our findings underscore the importance of considering strategies to reduce both youth symptoms and caregiver stress simultaneously. Additionally, ensuring adequate sleep for all children is recommended.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Subthreshold attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) has been suggested to be a "morbid condition" which also needs medical attention. METHODS The present study recruited 89 children with subthreshold ADHD (sADHD), 115 children with diagnosed ADHD (cADHD), and 79 healthy controls (HC) to explore the clinical manifestation, executive functions (EFs) of sADHD, and the caregiver strain. The clinical manifestation was evaluated through clinical interviews and parent-reports. Executive functions were assessed both experimentally and ecologically. Caregiver strain was measured by a parent-reported questionnaire. RESULTS For the clinical manifestation, both sADHD and cADHD indicated impairments when compared with HC. The comorbidities and the scaled symptoms indicated that the externalizing behaviors were relatively less serious in sADHD than cADHD, whereas the internalizing behaviors between two groups were comparable. For ecological EFs, sADHD scored between cADHD and HC in inhibition and working memory. For experimental EFs, sADHD was comparable to cADHD in inhibition, shifting, and was worse than cADHD in verbal working memory. For the caregiver strain, all scores of sADHD were between that in cADHD and that in HC. CONCLUSION Our present findings supported the suggestion of subthreshold ADHD as "morbid condition," which should be treated with caution in clinical practice, especially for the internalizing behaviors and some key components of EFs.

Abstract
Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) results in various functioning impairments in children's lives and families. Parents of children with ADHD report high levels of parenting stress, low levels of parental self-efficacy, and use of more authoritarian and/or permissive parenting practices than parents of typically developing children. Intervention programs need to address both children's and parents' needs and multimodal intervention programs could cover this demand. The aim of this study was to examine the efficacy of "Child ViReal Support Program"-a multi-level evidence-based comprehensive program-on parenting stress, parental self-efficacy, parenting practices, and the core symptoms of children's ADHD. Families with a child diagnosed with ADHD (n = 16) were randomly allocated to two groups (PC and CP; P = parent training, C = child training), and a cross-over design was utilized. Participating parents completed, in four different times during the study, the Parenting Stress Index-Short Form, the Parenting Sense of Competence Scale, the Parenting Styles and Dimensions Questionnaire-Short Version, and the parent form of the ADHD Rating Scale-IV. Parents from both groups, after their participation in the parent training, demonstrated reduced parenting stress, enhanced parental self-efficacy, and increased the employ of democratic parenting practices. More than that, they reported decreased levels of inattention and impulsivity/hyperactivity for their children. Evidence-based multi-level intervention programs could produce positive effects on parents and children by incorporating effective methods and tools in accordance with the needs and the demands of the family context.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Understanding the unmet needs of healthcare consumers with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) (individuals with ADHD and their caregivers) provides critical insight into gaps in services, education and research that require focus and funding to improve outcomes. This review examines the unmet needs of ADHD consumers from a consumer perspective. METHODS A standardised search protocol identified peer-reviewed studies published between December 2011 and December 2021 focusing on consumer-identified needs relating to ADHD clinical care or research priorities. RESULTS 1,624 articles were screened with 23 studies that reviewed examining the needs of ADHD consumers from Europe, the U.K., Hong Kong, Iran, Australia, the U.S.A. and Canada. Consumer-identified needs related to: treatment that goes beyond medication (12 studies); improved ADHD-related education/training (17 studies); improved access to clinical services, carer support and financial assistance (14 studies); school accommodations/support (6 studies); and ongoing treatment efficacy research (1 study). CONCLUSION ADHD consumers have substantial unmet needs in clinical, psychosocial and research contexts. Recommendations to address these needs include: improving access to and quality of multimodal care provision; incorporating recovery principles into care provision; fostering ADHD health literacy; and increasing consumer participation in research, service development and ADHD-related training/education.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Sleep disturbances are prevalent in Australian children and cause a significant amount of stress to both children and their parents. If sleep disturbances are left untreated, they can result in detrimental consequences to both child and parental wellbeing. While behavioural interventions are recognised as the gold standard treatment for paediatric insomnia, there is a growing use of melatonin from both prescription and non-prescription sources in paediatrics. However, empirical research on the efficacy and safety of melatonin for children is sparse, conflicting, and inconsistent. This first Australian study aimed to investigate correlates of melatonin use in a sample of children with sleep disturbance in Australia and assess whether melatonin is being administered to children contrary to Therapeutic Goods Administration Guidelines. METHODS An exploratory online study was undertaken with 318 parents of Australian children with sleep disturbance (95.30% females). Logistic regression, mediation and descriptive analysis were conducted. RESULTS As hypothesised, higher parental stress, older child age, and a diagnosis of ADHD were significantly associated with melatonin use in this sleep disturbed sample. Other potential correlates such as financial stress, number of household dependents, child sleep disturbance, and autism were not significantly associated with melatonin use in adjusted analyses. CONCLUSION Findings show off-label melatonin use in children with sleep disturbance is prevalent. For the first time, this study showed an indirect path linking child sleep disturbances with melatonin use via parental stress. Overall, while the safety of melatonin use remains unknown, there is a clear need to mitigate parental stress to minimise potentially unmonitored and improper use of melatonin in children.

Abstract
Parenting communication and parenting style, including expressions of fear, worry, and threat, may contribute to children's anxiety and apprehension. This study examined the degree to which perceptions of parental communication (both verbal and nonverbal) and parenting style are linked with childhood anxiety. This is among the first studies to investigate these relationships in a Saudi Arabian context. We employed a sample of 121 Saudi adults who completed questionnaires measuring perceptions of 2 parenting styles (authoritative and authoritarian), parental anxiety, and childhood anxiety. Parental communication elements such as shouting, criticism, facial expression, and body expressions were included among assessments of perceived parental anxiety, authoritative style, and authoritarian style. The results indicated that perceptions of childhood anxiety were positively associated with parental anxiety but not consistently associated with other assessed variables. This research addressed perceptions of parental communication and parenting style in the development of childhood anxiety, extending upon previous research on Western samples to a Middle Eastern sample residing in Saudi Arabia.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a common neuro-developmental health condition in children and adolescents. Parenting a child with ADHD can profoundly affect mothers' health. Research is limited regarding occupational experiences and their impact on health among mothers of children with ADHD (MoCwADHD). Ultra-orthodox MoCwADHD may have unique cultural circumstances that have not been studied. AIMS To broaden understanding of parental stress, psychological health, and quality of life (QoL) of ultra-orthodox MoCwADHD and explore a possible role of occupational experiences on these outcomes. METHODS Ultra-orthodox MoCwADHD (N = 114) completed a sociodemographic questionnaire and measurements to assess child ADHD symptomatology, mother's ADHD, parental stress, psychological health, QoL, and occupational experiences. RESULTS Participants displayed moderate parental stress, and 54.9 percent also showed psychological distress symptoms, similar to the literature on MoCwADHD in the general population. Frequency of engagement in health promoting occupations reflected patterns in line with cultural beliefs. Structure Equation Modeling showed that child ADHD negatively affected mothers' stress, psychological health and QoL. Importantly, occupational experiences directly and indirectly, via parental stress, impacted psychological health and QoL. CONCLUSIONS MoCwADHD impacts maternal health in the ultra-orthodox population and occupational experiences may be a modifiable target for promoting their health.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To evaluate the therapeutic efficacy of Pantogam aktiv in the treatment of clinical manifestations of burnout in mothers of children with ADHD. MATERIAL AND METHODS Under observation were 108 mothers of children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) aged 25 to 50 years, who had symptoms of burnout in the clinical picture during the initial visit. The following research methods were used in the work: clinical history taking, neurological examination, S. Maslach questionnaire for assessing the burnout manifestations, subjective asthenia rating scale (MFI-20) with five subscales, digital fatigue rating scale (10-point variant), quantitative assessment of autonomic changes (questionnaire A.M. Wein), Spielberger-Khanin Scale for assessing emotional disorders, psychophysiological study of cognitive functions: test of attention variables TOVA (the Test of Variables of Attention). For the treatment of patients, the drug Pantogam Active was used in capsules of 300 mg, at a daily dose of 900 mg (2 capsules in the morning and 1 capsule in the afternoon) for 8 weeks. RESULTS A re-examination after a course of treatment showed improvement in 68.5% of patients. After treatment, there was a significant decrease in the severity of such indicators of burnout as emotional exhaustion and depersonalization, a significant decrease in the average values according to the A.M. Wayne, a decrease in reactive anxiety, a statistically significant improvement in attention and a decrease in impulsivity (p<0.05). CONCLUSION Thus, the results of the study indicate that the use of Pantogam active in the treatment of clinical manifestations of parental burnout is characterized by high efficiency. After treatment, there is a significant decrease in fatigue, asthenia, anxiety, and total indicators characterizing burnout. The data obtained make it possible to recommend the use of Pantogam aktiv in the treatment of clinical manifestations of parents burnout in children with neurological diseases.

Abstract
Caring for children with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (CADHD) is stressful for caregivers. Identifying factors related to parenting stress in caregivers of CADHD can facilitate the development of intervention programs. This study aimed to examine the associations between affiliate stigma and various domains of parenting stress among caregivers of CADHD. This study also analyzed the moderating effects of demographic characteristics and the symptoms of childhood ADHD and oppositional defiant disorder (ODD) on the associations between affiliate stigma and parenting stress. In total, 213 caregivers of CADHD participated in this study. Parenting stress was assessed using the Parenting Stress Index, Fourth Edition Short Form (PSI-4-SF). Affiliate stigma was assessed using the Affiliate Stigma Scale. ADHD and ODD symptoms were assessed using the Parent Form of the Swanson, Nolan, and Pelham Scale, Version IV. The results indicated that higher affiliate stigma was significantly associated with greater parenting stress in all three domains of the PSI-4-SF. ODD symptoms increased the magnitude of parenting stress in two domains of parenting stress among caregivers with affiliate stigma. Intervention programs for relieving parenting stress among caregivers of CADHD should take affiliate stigma and child ODD symptoms into consideration.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The COVID-19 pandemic uprooted regular routines forcing many children to learn from home, requiring many adults to work from home, and cutting families off from support outside the home. Public health restrictions associated with the pandemic caused widespread psychological distress including depression and anxiety, increased fear, panic, and stress. These trends are particularly concerning for families raising neuroatypical children such as those with Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), as these children are already more likely than their typically developing peers to experience comorbid mental health issues, and to experience greater distress when required to stay indoors. Families with children who have ADHD are also at greater risk for experiencing heightened familial stress due to the challenges associated with managing ADHD behavioural symptoms, greater parental discord and divorce, and greater financial difficulties compared to other families. The current study engaged families comprised of at least one child diagnosed with ADHD to elucidate 1) the unique ways that the COVID-19 pandemic affected their mental health and 2) the specific barriers these families faced to maintaining optimal mental wellbeing. METHODS AND FINDINGS A total of 33 participants (15 parent-child dyads) engaged in virtual interviews. Content analysis revealed that the most frequently identified mental health effects for families were increased child anxiety and disconnectedness, as well as deteriorating parental mental health. The most frequently identified barriers to maintaining optimal mental wellbeing were lack of routine, lack of social interaction and social supports, and uncertainty and fear. CONCLUSIONS Findings underscore areas of need during times of large-scale social isolation, specifically for families with children who have ADHD. This work contributes to a growing body of research aimed at creating safeguards to support mental wellbeing for vulnerable families during times of crisis.

Abstract
The provision of effective care models for children with neurodevelopmental delay or disability can be challenging in resource constrained healthcare systems. Economic evaluations have an important role in informing resource allocation decisions. This review systematically examined the scope and methods of economic models evaluating interventions for supporting neurodevelopment among children with common neurodevelopmental disorders and identified methods of economic models and presented policy implications. This scoping review employed the Arksey and O'Malley framework and aligned with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses extension for Scoping Reviews (PRISMA-ScR). Four electronic databases were systematically searched to identify eligible model-based economic evaluations of neurodevelopmental care models published since 2000. The Consolidated Health Economic Evaluation Reporting Standards (CHEERS) checklist was used to assess quality of reporting. Data were systematically extracted, tabulated, and qualitatively synthesised across diagnostic categories. Searches identified 1431 unique articles. Twelve studies used a decision analytic model to evaluate care for neurodevelopmental disorders and were included in the review. Included studies focused on attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD, n=6), autism spectrum disorder (ASD, n=3), cerebral palsy (n=2), and dyslexia (n=1). The most used decision analytic modelling approach was a Markov model (n=6), followed by a decision tree (n=3), and a combination of decision tree and Markov model (n=3). Most studies (n=7) adopted a societal perspective for reporting costs. None of the reviewed studies modelled impact on families and caregivers. Four studies reported cost-savings, three identified greater quality of life, and three identified cost increases.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To test whether parental factors including internalizing symptoms, parenting style, and confidence in assisting with remote learning conferred risk/resilience for children with/without ADHD's learning and emotional outcomes during the COVID-19 pandemic. METHOD 291 parents of children (ages 6-13; n = 180 males) with (n = 148) and without ADHD completed questionnaires online (April-July 2020). RESULTS Structural equation modeling identified parental risk/resilience factors. Across groups, risk predicted greater difficulties with learning, internalizing and externalizing symptoms, while parent confidence in educating their child predicted better outcomes. A positive association was observed between parental involvement and child difficulties, which was stronger in families of children with ADHD. Children with/without ADHD did not differ in remote learning difficulties. CONCLUSION Parent factors impacted child emotional and learning outcomes during the pandemic. With increases in remote learning practices, there is a need for improved understanding of how parent factors impact outcomes of children with/without ADHD.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Parents' lived experiences of having a child with ADHD may shape their decision making regarding ADHD treatment options for their child. The aim of this study was to explore parents' experiences of living with a child with ADHD in the family and how their experiences influence their perspectives on treatment preferences and priorities. METHODS A phenomenological qualitative design was used. Semistructured interviews were conducted with parents of children with ADHD who were enrolled in a multisite randomized controlled trial. Interviews were transcribed verbatim, and transcripts at each site were double coded. Initial codes were derived directly from the text. Qualitative data were analysed with an inductive approach. RESULTS Twenty-three parents were interviewed: eight from Alberta, Canada; eight from Portland, Oregon, USA; and seven from Columbus, Ohio, USA. Among the parents, 69% were married, 86% completed college education and 52% reported household income over $80,000. Among the children, the mean age was 9.6 years (SD = 1.8 years), 78% were boys and 48% were never medicated for their ADHD. Two major themes emerged from the analysis. Theme 1 was 'impact of ADHD on families within and outside the home' with the following subthemes: 'reconfiguring the home life', 'trial-and-error of accommodations at school' and 'responding to social pressures to fit in'. Theme 2 was 'enabling appropriate and accessible treatments for families' with the following subthemes: 'finding the "right fit" with professionals and treatments' and 'factors influencing inequitable access to treatments'. CONCLUSIONS Parents described shared experiences and identified similar barriers, preferences and priorities for ADHD treatments regardless of demographic differences by site. Families desired access to family-centred, multimodal approaches to ADHD treatment. Further research is needed to identify the specific structural changes to healthcare, services and policies that will better support this approach.

Abstract
BACKGROUND A pilot randomized controlled trial (RCT) was conducted in mainland China to examine the feasibility, acceptability, and preliminary effects of parent-administered pediatric tuina on attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) symptoms in preschool children. An embedded process evaluation was performed to explore barriers and facilitators in the implementation, identify additional questions, and refine the study design for a future fully powered study. METHODS The process evaluation comprises the following parts: (a) self-reported questionnaires on parents (n = 43), traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) practitioners (n = 2), outcome assessor (n = 1), and research assistant (n = 1); (b) parent logbook on parent-administered pediatric tuina (n = 32); and (c) focus group interview sessions (n = 15). Accomplishment of the self-report questionnaires was voluntary for all participants and compulsory for research personnel and TCM practitioners. The parent logbook on the intervention was filled out by all participants in the intervention group. Participants of focus group interviews were selected via purposive sampling, and data were analyzed with template analysis. Qualitative findings were summarized in tables, while the mean was calculated to reflect the quantitative findings. RESULTS Perceived benefits, acceptability of parents and children, and professional support from the research team facilitated the implementation of the intervention. Meanwhile, the TCM pattern identification using online mode may limit the accuracy and lead to parents doubting the precision of the TCM pattern. This limitation was regarded as a major barrier. Parents perceived improvements in terms of children's appetite, sleep quality, and parent-child relationship. Participants were generally satisfied with the settings of parent-administered pediatric tuina and showed satisfactory adherence to the implementation. CONCLUSIONS Implementation of parent-administered pediatric tuina intervention is feasible and acceptable. The intervention can be refined by improving the TCM pattern identification procedure and adjusting outcome settings in a fully powered study in the future.

Abstract
Background The presence of attention deficit hyperactive disorder (ADHD) causes great impairment in social and professional activities as well as in the quality of life (QOL) and increases level of parental stress. Objective This study aimed to compare the QOL, self-competence, and self-liking among the caregivers of ADHD and non-ADHD children. Method A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted on 216 caregivers. They were divided into two groups: caregivers of children with ADHD and caregivers of children without ADHD. Setting This study was conducted in the Elsinbellawin City at Dakahlia Governorate in Egypt. Tools used were socio-demographic data sheet and WHO Quality of Life Scale-Brief (WHOQOL-Brief) and self-liking/self-competence scale. Results Our results showed that all QOL dimensions of the caregivers of ADHD children were markedly deteriorated, if compared to those of non-ADHD children, and two thirds of caregivers of ADHD children suffered from poor level quality of life (QOL). Caregivers of non-ADHD children had fair level of self-competence but a good level of self-liking. Caregiver of ADHD children who had no work or history of medical diseases has a fair level of QOL and self-competence but a good level of self-liking. Conclusions We found that caregivers of ADHD children have fair levels of QOL, self-liking, and self-competence, if compared to those of non-ADHD children. There are statistically significant correlations between QOL, self-competence, and self-liking among both caregivers of both non-ADHD children and ADHD children.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Hyperactivity, inattention, and impulsivity of children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) increase parenting stress and familial conflict. Among parent-related factors, maternal mental health has been studied in-depth, but studies on paternal factors in this context are scarce. This cross-sectional study was conducted of children with ADHD and their parents in South Korea. We investigated the relationships between ADHD symptom severity of children and the mental health of their mothers and fathers. METHODS The study included 70 children with ADHD and their 140 married heterosexual parents (70 fathers and 70 mothers). Children completed the Child Depression Inventory and State-Anxiety Inventory for children, and their parents completed the Korean ADHD rating scale-IV, Adult ADHD self-report scale, State-Anxiety Inventory, Patient Health Questionnaire-9, and Parental Stress Scale. RESULTS There was a significant positive correlation between children's ADHD symptoms and maternal anxiety symptom severity, whereby more severe ADHD symptoms were associated with more severe maternal anxiety symptoms. There was also a significant positive correlation between maternal anxiety symptom severity and paternal parenting stress severity, whereby more severe maternal anxiety was associated with more severe paternal parenting stress. A mediation model showed that paternal parenting stress severity was not directly related to children's ADHD symptoms, but the severity of maternal anxiety mediated this relationship. CONCLUSION The present study found the importance of mental health in mothers of children with ADHD and the interrelatedness of mental health within families. Future assessments and treatment of children with ADHD should include both the children and their parents.

Abstract
BackgroundThe diagnosis of Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is primarily dependent on parents’ and teachers’ reports, while children’s own perspectives on their difficulties and strengths are often overlooked.GoalTo further increase our insight into children’s ability to reliably report about their ADHD-related symptoms, the current study examined the associations between children’s self-reports, parents’ and teachers’ reports, and standardized continuous performance test (CPT) data. We also examined whether the addition of children’s perceptions of ADHD-symptoms to parents’ and teachers’ reports would be reflected by objective and standardized data.MethodsThe study included 190 children with ADHD, aged 7–10 years, who were referred to a pediatric neurologic clinic. A retrospective analysis was conducted using records of a clinical database. Obtained data included children’s self-reports of their attention level and ADHD-related symptoms, parent, and teacher forms of the Conners ADHD rating scales, Child Behavior Checklist (CBCL), Teacher’s Report Form (TRF), and CPT scores.ResultsChildren’s self-evaluations of their functioning were globally associated with their teachers’ and parents’ evaluations, but not uniquely. Children’s self-reports of ADHD symptoms were not uniquely linked to a specific CPT impairment index, but to a general likelihood of having an impaired CPT. The CPT performance successfully distinguished between the group of children who defined themselves as inattentive and those who did not.ConclusionPrimary school children with ADHD are able to identify their limitations and needs difficulties and that their perspectives should inform clinical practice and research. The clinical and ethical imperative of taking children’s perspectives into account during ADHD diagnosis and treatment is highlighted.

Abstract
Economic evaluations can help decision makers identify what services for children with neurodevelopmental disorders provide best value-for-money. The aim of this paper is to review the best available economic evidence to support decision making for attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in children and adolescents. We conducted a systematic review of economic evaluations of ADHD and ASD interventions including studies published 2010-2020, identified through Econlit, Medline, PsychINFO, and ERIC databases. Only full economic evaluations comparing two or more options, considering both costs and consequences were included. The quality of the studies was assessed using the Drummond checklist. We identified ten studies of moderate-to-good quality on the cost-effectiveness of treatments for ADHD and two studies of good quality of interventions for ASD. The majority of ADHD studies evaluated pharmacotherapy (n = 8), and two investigated the economic value of psychosocial/behavioral interventions. Both economic evaluations for ASD investigated early and communication interventions. Included studies support the cost-effectiveness of behavioral parenting interventions for younger children with ADHD. Among pharmacotherapies for ADHD, different combinations of stimulant/non-stimulant medications for children were cost-effective at willingness-to-pay thresholds reported in the original papers. Early intervention for children with suspected ASD was cost-effective, but communication-focused therapy for preschool children with ASD was not. Prioritizing more studies in this area would allow decision makers to promote cost-effective and clinically effective interventions for this target group.

Abstract
The aim of the present study was to investigate the effects of the coronavirus crisis on behavioral and emotional parameters in children and adolescents with ADHD and Learning Difficulties. A total of 101 children, 5–18 years old, were included in the study, 63 (44 boys) of which were diagnosed with ADHD and learning difficulties (ADHD/LD) and 38 were healthy children (19 boys). The CRISIS questionnaire for parents/caregivers was used. The questionnaire was completed during the first national lockdown in Greece and the data referred to two time-points: 3 months before, and the past 2 weeks. A significant deterioration in the “Emotion/Worries (EW)” symptoms was observed during the pandemic in the control group (2.62 ± 0.16 vs. 2.83 ± 0.18, p < 0.001). No such differences were noted in the ADHD group: 3.08 ± 0.25 vs. 3.12 ± 0.29, p = 0.12. Provision of educational and activities support was related to increased EW before the crisis. In ADHD/LD children, higher parental education and child’s younger age were related to increased symptoms of EW. In the entire group, previous mental health conditions, increasing stress due to restrictions, and increased COVID-related worries were positively associated with the EW symptoms during the crisis. Less affected relations with friends and less reduction in contact with people outside the home were negatively related with EW during the crisis. The study revealed specific parameters that negatively affected the emotional and behavioral variables of children with ADHD and learning difficulties.

Abstract
Background: Children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) co-occurring with Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD) further present aggressive behavior and may have a depressive parent. A child with co-occurring ADHD and ODD has differentially higher levels of behavioral and emotional difficulties. Little is known about how the irritable subtype of ADHD in children mediates the development of parental symptomatology. This study aims to elucidate the direct or indirect influence of childhood disruptive ADHD with aggressive behavior on their parental symptom using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). Methods: A total of 231 ADHD children and their parents completed the Swanson, Nolan, and Pelham Version IV questionnaire for symptoms of ADHD, Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD) scale for irritable symptoms, Child Behavior Check List (CBCL) for aggression, and Symptom Checklist (SCL) for parental symptom. Results: The three-factor confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) model found symptoms of inattention, hyperactivity/impulsivity, irritable ODD, and aggression were inter-related. Mediational analyses demonstrated ODD mediates symptoms directly predicting the risk of increasing ADHD severity. Disruptive child symptoms (ADHD + ODD + aggression) may increase the risk of depression-related symptoms in the parent. When the child’s aggression increases by one standard deviation (SD), parental psychiatric symptoms increase by 0.235 SD (p < 0.001). Conclusions: By this SEM pathway analysis, there is the correlation between the disruptive, more aggressive subtype of ADHD in children/adolescents and the existence of psychopathological symptomatology of their parents. ADHD + ODD + aggression in children should be classified as an irritable subtype of ADHD, warranting early diagnosis and intensive treatment.

Abstract
This study was conducted to investigate the effectiveness of the Family Empowerment Program, which aims to reduce the stress level of parents with a child diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and to increase their quality of life. In the research, experimental design with pre-test and post-test control group was used. The research group included volunteer parents with children diagnosed with ADHD who are currently enrolled at one of the preschool or primary school institutions of the Ministry of National Education in Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. The study was carried out with 65 participants who were divided into two groups. Namely, the experiment group (n = 33) and the control group (N = 32). Random assignment method was used in the distribution of parents to groups. Perceived Stress Level and Beach Center Family Life Quality Scale were applied to parents. In the study, the period of each session was determined as 60 minutes and consisted of 17 sessions (three sessions per a week) at a support education room of a private psychotherapy center. The impact size at the stress level for the experimental group was determined as 12.2%. The results of the study reveal that the psycho-educational empowerment program is effective.

Abstract
The aims of this study were to examine the proportion of caregivers who were hesitant to vaccinate their children with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) against coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and the factors related to caregiver intentions to vaccinate their children against COVID-19. In total, 161 caregivers of children with ADHD were recruited in this study. The caregivers completed an online questionnaire to provide data regarding their intention to vaccinate their children against COVID-19, concerns about the effectiveness and safety of vaccines, unfavorable family attitudes toward vaccines, and children’s medication use for ADHD and comorbid psychopathology. The factors related to caregiver intentions to vaccinate their child were examined using linear regression analysis. The results indicated that 25.5% of caregivers were hesitant to vaccinate their children with ADHD, and 11.8% refused to vaccinate their children against COVID-19. The caregivers’ concerns about the safety of vaccines and children’s regular use of medication for ADHD were negatively associated with caregiver intentions to vaccinate, whereas the children’s comorbid conduct or oppositional defiant problems were positively associated with the caregiver intentions to vaccinate. An intervention that enhances caregiver intentions to vaccinate their children with ADHD against COVID-19 by addressing the related factors found in this study is warranted.

Abstract
Affiliate stigma may increase the risks of negative parenting and psychological and depressive problems in caregivers of children with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Evaluating affiliate stigma and determining how to reduce it are crucial to promoting mental health in caregivers and their children with ADHD. The aim of this study was to examine the associations of stress-coping orientations and parental child-rearing styles with the risk of high affiliate stigma in caregivers of children with ADHD in Taiwan. Affiliate stigma, stress-coping orientations, and parental child-rearing styles were assessed. The results of univariate logistic regression analysis indicated that caregivers’ gender, depressive symptoms, four orientations of stress coping, and two parenting styles, and children’s high severities of internalizing, externalizing, and ADHD symptoms were significantly associated with high affiliate stigma. The results of multivariate logistic regression analysis indicated that after controlling for caregivers’ gender, depressive symptoms, and children’s severity of internalizing, externalizing, and ADHD symptoms, caregivers with high orientation of seeking social support were less likely to have high affiliate stigma than those with low orientation of seeking social support; the caregivers with high care and affection parenting were less likely to have high affiliate stigma than those with low care and affection parenting, whereas the caregivers with high overprotection parenting were more likely to have high affiliate stigma than those with low overprotection parenting. Intervention programs targeting caregiver affiliate stigma must consider various coping orientations and parental child-rearing styles in their approach.

Abstract
This 1-year follow-up study examined the predictive values of the demographics, depressive symptoms, stress-coping orientations, and perceived family support of caregivers as well as the internalizing, externalizing and ADHD symptoms of children with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) at baseline on the depressive symptoms of the caregivers after 1 year. A total of four hundred caregivers of children with ADHD were recruited. The baseline levels of the caregivers' depressive symptoms, stress-coping orientations, and perceived family support and the internalizing and externalizing problems of the children were assessed using the Center for Epidemiological Studies Depression Scale, the Coping Orientation to Problems Experienced, Family Adaptation, Partnership, Growth, Affection, Resolve Index, and the Child Behavior Checklist For Ages 6-18, respectively. Their predictions for the caregiver's depressive symptoms 1 year after the baseline were examined using linear regression analysis. In total, 382 caregivers of children with ADHD underwent the follow-up assessment 1 year from the baseline. A marital status of being separated or divorced, less effective coping and depressive symptoms orientation, and children with internalizing problems and ADHD symptoms at baseline were positively associated with the caregivers' depressive symptoms at follow-up, whereas the caregivers' perceived family support and an emotion-focused coping orientation at baseline were negatively associated with depressive symptoms at follow-up. Multiple characteristics of the caregivers and children with ADHD at baseline predicted the caregivers' depressive symptoms 1 year later.
