Abstract
To mark 15 years of the European Journal of Psychotraumatology, editors reviewed the past 15-year years of research on trauma exposure and its consequences, as well as developments in (early) psychological, pharmacological and complementary interventions. In all sections of this paper, we provide perspectives on sex/gender aspects, life course trends, and cross-cultural/global and systemic societal contexts. Globally, the majority of people experience stressful events that may be characterized as traumatic. However, definitions of what is traumatic are not necessarily straightforward or universal. Traumatic events may have a wide range of transdiagnostic mental and physical health consequences, not limited to posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Research on genetic, molecular, and neurobiological influences show promise for further understanding underlying risk and resilience for trauma-related consequences. Symptom presentation, prevalence, and course, in response to traumatic experiences, differ depending on individuals' age and developmental phase, sex/gender, sociocultural and environmental contexts, and systemic socio-political forces. Early interventions have the potential to prevent acute posttraumatic stress reactions from escalating to a PTSD diagnosis whether delivered in the golden hours or weeks after trauma. However, research on prevention is still scarce compared to treatment research where several evidence-based psychological, pharmacological and complementary/ integrative interventions exist, and novel forms of delivery have become available. Here, we focus on how best to address the range of negative health outcomes following trauma, how to serve individuals across the age spectrum, including the very young and old, and include considerations of sex/gender, ethnicity, and culture in diverse contexts, beyond Western, Educated, Industrialized, Rich, and Democratic (WEIRD) countries. We conclude with providing directions for future research aimed at improving the well-being of all people impacted by trauma around the world. Abstract
BACKGROUND The triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index and its combined indices serve as markers of insulin resistance, but their associations with sleep disorders remain unclear. This study examines the links between the TyG index, its combined indices, and sleep disorders while assessing the mediating role of depressive symptoms. METHODS Using data from NHANES (n = 17,538, USA) and CHARLS (n = 7758, China), we conducted cross-sectional and longitudinal analyses. Associations between TyG-related indices and sleep disorders were assessed using logistic and linear regression models. Mediation analysis evaluated the indirect effects of depressive symptoms. RESULTS Higher TyG index levels were significantly associated with sleep disorders (NHANES adjusted OR: 1.127, 95 % CI: 1.051-1.209; CHARLS adjusted OR: 1.54, 95 % CI: 1.00-1.80, P < 0.001). Gender-stratified analyses showed a stronger association with depressive symptoms in females. Mediation analysis revealed that depressive symptoms accounted for 68.91 % (NHANES) and 21.33 % (CHARLS) of the TyG-sleep disorder relationship. Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) analysis showed TyG outperformed the triglyceride-glucose body mass index (TyG-BMI) and the triglyceride-glucose waist circumference (TyG-WC) in CHARLS (AUC = 0.62). CONCLUSIONS Metabolic dysfunction, shown by the TyG index, links to sleep disorders. Depressive symptoms partly explain this connection. These results highlight the importance of addressing both metabolic and mental health to improve sleep. More research is needed to understand the causes and find effective treatments.

Abstract
Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) is a major public health problem to be addressed with innovative and interconnecting strategies for ensuring the psychophysical health of the surviving woman. According to the World Health Organization, 27% of women worldwide have experienced physical and sexual IPV in their lifetime. Most of the studies on gender-based violence focus on short-term effects, while long-term effects are often marginally included even though they represent the most serious and complex consequences. The molecular mechanisms underlying stress-related disorders in IPV victims are multiple and include dysregulation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis, inflammatory response, epigenetic modifications, neurotransmitter imbalances, structural changes in the brain, and oxidative stress. This review aims to explore the long-term health consequences of intimate partner violence (IPV), emphasizing the biological and psychological mechanisms underlying stress-related disorders and resilience. By integrating findings from epigenetics, microbiome research, and artificial intelligence (AI)-based data analysis, we highlight novel strategies for mitigating IPV-related trauma and improving recovery pathways. Genome-wide environment interaction studies, enhanced by AI-assisted data analysis, offer a promising public health approach for identifying factors that contribute to stress-related disorders and those that promote resilience, thus guiding more effective prevention and intervention strategies.

Abstract
This study aimed to investigate the relationship between earthquake-related post-traumatic stress disorder, eating behaviours, and sleep disorders. Conducted online with 515 participants (80.2% female; mean age: 32.1 ± 14.0), it utilized a questionnaire including socio-demographics, PTSD-Short Scale (PTSD), Insomnia Severity Index (ISI), and the Three-Factor Eating Questionnaire (measuring cognitive restraint-CR, uncontrolled eating-UE, emotional eating-EE, and hunger sensitivity-HS). 28.5% of the participants lived in the earthquake zone. The rate of destroyed house, losing a loved one, and injury were significantly higher in those with PTSD. A significant correlation was found between the ISI and PTSD scores (r = 0.509, p < 0.001). PTSD score (β = 0.162), age (β=-0.335), body mass index (β = 0.269), and body weight change (β=-0.179) significantly related the CR. ISI and PTSD scores were positively associated with UE and HS. PTSD triggers the occurrence of insomnia and maladaptive eating behaviours such as emotional or uncontrolled eating..

Abstract
BACKGROUND Neighborhood-level adverse social determinants may be a risk factor for sleep health disparities. We examined the associations between neighborhood factors and insomnia and explored their spatial clustering in the city of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. METHODS We conducted a cross-sectional analysis of data from Philadelphia residents who participated in online screening for insomnia-related research. Participants self-reported sex, age, body mass index, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, depression, and insomnia symptoms. The sample was stratified as "No Insomnia" (≤7) and "Insomnia" (>7) based on the Insomnia Severity Index (range: 0-28). Neighborhood and participant data were merged using geospatial techniques. Multiple regression models and geospatial analysis were used to identify neighborhood variables that are associated with insomnia and their spatial distribution. RESULTS The sample (N = 350) was predominantly female (53%), middle-aged (40.8 ± 13.8), overweight (body mass index=26.1 ± 5.54), and 53.7% had insomnia. The insomnia group had significantly higher depression scores (14.6 ± 5.5), a large percentage had anxiety (64.4%) and post-traumatic stress disorder symptoms (31.9%), and largely resided in high crime (p < .001) and highly deprived neighborhoods (p = .034). Within the insomnia group, a 1-point increase in the number of spiritual centers in the neighborhood was associated with lower insomnia symptoms (b=-1.02, p = .002), while a 1-point increase in depression scores (b=0.44, p < .001) and residence in a highly deprived neighborhood (b=1.49, p = .021) was associated with greater insomnia. CONCLUSION Disparities exist in the neighborhood determinants of insomnia and their spatial distribution in Philadelphia. Interventions targeting the spatial distribution of adverse social determinants may improve insomnia disparities.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE We aimed to investigate the prevalence of sleep disturbances and associated factors among Ukrainians 1 year after Russia's full-scale invasion. METHODS Quota sampling was used to collect online survey data from 2364 adults living in Ukraine aged 18 to 79 years from April 5, 2023, to May 15, 2023. Short sleep duration was defined as sleep duration ≤6 hours and long sleep duration as ≥9 hours. Insomnia was assessed by the Insomnia Symptom Questionnaire. RESULTS The prevalences of short sleep duration, long sleep duration, and insomnia were 39.4%, 6.9%, and 38.5%, respectively. Short sleep duration and insomnia were both more likely in females (short sleep duration: adjusted odds ratio [aOR] = 1.44; insomnia: aOR = 2.17), individuals with depression (short sleep duration: aOR = 1.61; insomnia: aOR = 7.76), affected by the 2014 Russian invasion (short sleep duration: aOR = 1.37; insomnia: aOR = 1.78), and with more trauma events (short sleep duration: quartile 3 [Q3] versus Q1: aOR = 1.88; Q4 versus Q1: aOR = 1.83; insomnia: Q3 versus Q1: aOR = 2.14; Q4 versus Q1: aOR = 2.32). Insomnia was more likely in Ukrainians with posttraumatic stress disorder (aOR = 2.95), anxiety (aOR = 4.57), and loneliness (aOR = 1.67). Essential public service was associated with short sleep duration (aOR = 1.64). Short sleep duration and insomnia were associated with lower quality of life in physical, psychological, and environmental domains. Insomnia was associated with the social relationships domain. CONCLUSIONS Sleep health among Ukrainian adults 1 year into the war is concerning, with more than one-third reporting inadequate sleep or insomnia. More studies are needed on impacts and interventions for sleep health during and after the war.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The purpose of this study was to determine whether social support from extended family and church members moderate the association between chronic stress exposure and sleep quality in a nationally representative sample of African American adults. DESIGN Data from African American respondents aged 18 and older were drawn from the National Survey of American Life-Reinterview. The analytic sample for this study included 1,372 African American adults who attended religious services at least a few times a year, as the church-based relationship measures were only assessed for these individuals. Self-reported sleep quality was assessed by sleep satisfaction, trouble falling asleep, and restless sleep. Chronic stress exposure was measured by a nine-item index. OLS and logistic regression were used to estimate the relationship between chronic stress exposure, extended family and church relationships, and sleep quality. RESULTS The data indicated that chronic stress exposure was associated with decreased sleep satisfaction, increased likelihood of trouble falling asleep and restless sleep. Receiving emotional support from family and more frequent contact with church members were associated with decreased restless sleep. Emotional family support moderated the associations between chronic stress exposure and trouble falling asleep and restless sleep. The positive associations between chronic stress exposure and these two sleep quality measures were attenuated among respondents who received high levels of emotional support from their family. CONCLUSIONS Together, these findings underscore the detriment of chronic stress exposure to African Americans' sleep quality and suggest that extended family members are effective stress coping resources and play an important role in this population's sleep quality.

Abstract
Breast cancer (BC) is one of the most common and fatal malignancies among women worldwide. Circadian rhythms have emerged in recent studies as being involved in the pathogenesis of breast cancer. In this paper, we reviewed the molecular mechanisms by which the dysregulation of the circadian genes impacts the development of BC, focusing on the critical clock genes, brain and muscle ARNT-like protein 1 (BMAL1) and circadian locomotor output cycles kaput (CLOCK). We discussed how the circadian rhythm disruption (CRD) changes the tumor microenvironment (TME), immune responses, inflammation, and angiogenesis. The CRD compromises immune surveillance and features and activities of immune effectors, including CD8+ T cells and tumor-associated macrophages, that are important in an effective anti-tumor response. Meanwhile, in this review, we discuss bidirectional interactions: age and circadian rhythms, aging further increases the risk of breast cancer through reduced vasoactive intestinal polypeptide (VIP), affecting suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN) synchronization, reduced ability to repair damaged DNA, and weakened immunity. These complex interplays open new avenues toward targeted therapies by the combination of clock drugs with chronotherapy to potentiate the immune response while reducing tumor progression for better breast cancer outcomes. This review tries to cover the broad area of emerging knowledge on the tumor-immune nexus affected by the circadian rhythm in breast cancer.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION AND AIMS In the specialized nursing setting, nurses are susceptible to developing negative mental health issues. Such conditions among nurses can potentially result in unfavorable medical outcomes. Consequently, this study aims to explore the role of social support in regulating between sleep and mental health in nurses. METHODS A cross-sectional study was carried out in September 2022 on 1219 nurses in Quanzhou. The study comprised general demographic information and utilized various questionnaires, namely the Social Support Rate Scale (SSRS), Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index Questionnaire (PSQI), Generalized Anxiety Disorder Questionnaire (GAD-7), and Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9). The data analysis was performed using t-tests, ANOVAs, Pearsons correlations and hierarchical regression analyses in SPSS software. RESULTS Results show that significant associations of sleep quality and social support with anxiety and depression. Simple slope analysis shows that under low levels of social support, sleep quality has a positive impact on anxiety(β = 0.598) and depression(β = 0.851), and the impact is significant. Under high levels of social support, sleep quality also has a positive impact on anxiety(β = 0.462) and depression(β = 0.578), but the impact is smaller. This indicates that as the level of social support increases, the positive predictive effect of sleep quality on anxiety and depression gradually diminishes. CONCLUSIONS Social support has the potential to alter the impact of sleep quality on anxiety and depression. Therefore, healthcare policymakers need to focus on enhancing the level of social support and mitigating the impact of poor sleep on anxiety and depression.

Abstract
Although dysregulated stress biology is becoming increasingly recognized as a key driver of lifelong disparities in chronic disease, we presently have no validated biomarkers of toxic stress physiology; no biological, behavioral, or cognitive treatments specifically focused on normalizing toxic stress processes; and no agreed-upon guidelines for treating stress in the clinic or evaluating the efficacy of interventions that seek to reduce toxic stress and improve human functioning. We address these critical issues by (a) systematically describing key systems and mechanisms that are dysregulated by stress; (b) summarizing indicators, biomarkers, and instruments for assessing stress response systems; and (c) highlighting therapeutic approaches that can be used to normalize stress-related biopsychosocial functioning. We also present a novel multidisciplinary Stress Phenotyping Framework that can bring stress researchers and clinicians one step closer to realizing the goal of using precision medicine-based approaches to prevent and treat stress-associated health problems.

Abstract
This study aimed to investigate the correlation between chronotypes and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms in medical students affected by earthquakes in Kahramanmaraş, Turkey, while elucidating if the PTSD manifestation varies among different chronotypes four months post-disaster. The study encompassed 193 medical students, subjected to the sociodemographic data form, the Morningness-Eveningness Questionnaire (MEQ) and the PTSD Checklist for DSM-5 (PCL-5). The results indicated that students identified as "evening types" reported significantly elevated PCL-5 scores (p < 0.001) relative to "morning" and "intermediate" types. According to PCL-5 scores, 43.5% of the participants exhibited PTSD, with a higher occurrence among the evening types. Multivariable linear regression analysis revealed that lower MEQ scores independently correlated with elevated PTSD symptoms (β = -0.1389 [95% CI = -0.273 - -0.0048], p = 0.042), suggesting the potential of eveningness as a risk factor for PTSD post-disaster. These findings could enhance our understanding of PTSD, aid the development of preventive strategies, and underscore the importance of considering chronotypes. Further expansive, population-based studies with a longitudinal design are necessary to better understand the relationship between PTSD and the circadian system.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Insomnia, sleep apnoea and sleep loss are risk factors for the development of cardiovascular diseases. Most research on sleep disturbances includes patients with heart failure, while the role of sleep in sudden cardiac arrest survivors (SCA) has been only partially investigated and understood. Sleep-related breathing disorders and obstructive sleep apnoea increase illness and mortality in the aftermath of SCA. Also, post-traumatic stress is evident in SCA survivors, where sleep disruptions are some of the main symptoms of the condition. Consequently, it is important to identify sleep problems in SCA survivors at an early stage to avoid unnecessary suffering. AIM The aim of this study was to investigate registered nurses' perceptions of SCA survivors' sleep, both in hospital and after discharge. STUDY DESIGN This was an explorative interview study with a phenomenographic approach. Nineteen registered nurses (RNs) varying in age, sex and years in the profession participated. FINDINGS The nurses' perceptions of SCA survivors' sleep were categorized as: "The observer - noticing behaviours, emotions and habits of the patient that affect sleep", "The oblivious witness - attitudes that hinder the ability to recognise sleep behaviours", and "The practitioner - advising and medicating for sleep". The outcome space showed that the nurses detected both obvious and subtle signs relating to patients' sleep. However, attitudes hindering the recognition of sleep behaviours were independent of acting as an observer or practitioner. If nothing unforeseen was observed, or if the patient did not spontaneously raise the subject, sleep was considered less important than other health problems in SCA survivors. CONCLUSIONS Although the nurses knew that SCA survivors suffered from poor sleep, they failed to reflect on the consequences for the patient. Nurses' feelings of insufficient knowledge about sleep, as well as their omittance of sleep in the follow-up documentation could leave sleep issues unaddressed and cause unnecessary patient suffering. RELEVANCE TO CLINICAL PRACTICE Nurses need increased knowledge and training to enable them to detect subtle signs of sleep problems in SCA survivors.

Abstract
Insomnia is one of the most common accompanying symptoms of depression, with both sharing highly overlapping molecular pathways. The same pathological changes can trigger comorbidity of insomnia and depression, which further forms a vicious cycle with the involvement of more mechanisms and disease progression. Thus, understanding the potential interaction mechanisms between insomnia and depression is critical for clinical diagnosis and treatment. Comorbidity genetic factors, the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis, along with circadian rhythms of cortisol and the brain reward mechanism, are important ways in contributing to the comorbidity occurrence and development. However, owing to lack of pertinent investigational data, intricate molecular mechanisms necessitate further elaboration. Synaptic plasticity is a solid foundation for neural homeostasis. Pathological alterations of depression and insomnia may perturb the production and release of neurotransmitter, dendritic spine remodeling and elimination, which converges and reflects in aberrant synaptic dynamics. Hence, the introduction of synaptic plasticity research route and the construction of a comprehensive model of depression and insomnia comorbidity can provide new ideas for clinical depression insomnia comorbidity treatment plans.

Abstract
Aging is a progressive and irreversible pathophysiological process that manifests as the decline in tissue and cellular functions, along with a significant increase in the risk of various aging-related diseases, including metabolic diseases. While advances in modern medicine have significantly promoted human health and extended human lifespan, metabolic diseases such as obesity and type 2 diabetes among the older adults pose a major challenge to global public health as societies age. Therefore, understanding the complex interaction between risk factors and metabolic diseases is crucial for promoting well-being and healthy aging. This review article explores the environmental and behavioral risk factors associated with metabolic diseases and their impact on healthy aging. The environment, including an obesogenic environment and exposure to environmental toxins, is strongly correlated with the rising prevalence of obesity and its comorbidities. Behavioral factors, such as diet, physical activity, smoking, alcohol consumption, and sleep patterns, significantly influence the risk of metabolic diseases throughout aging. Public health interventions targeting modifiable risk factors can effectively promote healthier lifestyles and prevent metabolic diseases. Collaboration between government agencies, healthcare providers and community organizations is essential for implementing these interventions and creating supportive environments that foster healthy aging.

Abstract
Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) are associated with an increased risk of diabetes in adulthood. However, the potential mediational role of sleep duration in this association is unclear. A total of 116, 014 participants in the United States, from the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) survey in 2020 were involved in the study. The effects of ACE status, different ACEs, and ACE scores on short sleep duration were examined using binary logistic regression analysis, and the association of ACE status, different types of ACEs, and ACE scores with diabetes and the mediating role of short sleep duration were observed. Path analysis was used to investigate short sleep duration as pathways between different types of ACEs and diabetes in adulthood. For the different types of ACEs, alcohol abuse in the household (OR = 1.13, 95%CI 1.08; 1.18), witnessing domestic violence (OR = 1.17, 95%CI 1.11; 1.23), emotional abuse (OR = 1.11, 95%CI 1.06; 1.16), physical abuse (OR = 1.22, 95%CI 1.17; 1.28), sexual abuse (OR = 1.25, 95%CI 1.18; 1.32) and short sleep duration (OR = 1.26, 95%CI 1.21; 1.32) independently increased the odds of diabetes. There was also an indirect relationship between alcohol abuse in the household, witnessing domestic violence, physical abuse, sexual abuse, and diabetes via short sleep duration. Short sleep duration plays a partial mediating role between ACEs and diabetes, including alcohol abuse in the household, witnessing domestic violence, physical and sexual abuse.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Life-course disadvantages and unhealthy lifestyles are well-known to independently induce depressive symptoms, but whether adopting healthy lifestyles can dilute the depressive risks attributed to life-course disadvantages remain unknown in China. METHODS This population-based cross-sectional study included 5724 middle-aged and older people from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS). Depressive symptoms and healthy lifestyles (including regular exercise, reasonable sleep, never smoking, and no heavy alcohol consumption) were collected in 2018 while life-course disadvantages were collected in 2014. RESULTS Multiple healthy lifestyles were associated with decreased depressive risks more significantly as the life-course disadvantages increased, with odds ratios (ORs) and 95 % confidence intervals (CIs) of 0.44 (0.25-0.80) and 0.33 (0.21-0.53) for 4 healthy lifestyles in participants with mild and severe life-course disadvantages, respectively. Life-course disadvantages and unhealthy lifestyles had enormous joint effects on depressive symptoms. Finally, adopting multiple healthy lifestyles can dilute the depressive risks attributed to life-course disadvantages and even mask some risks attributed to childhood disadvantages. LIMITATIONS Given that dietary data were not gathered by the CHARLS, diet was not included in the lifestyles used in this study. In addition, information on life-course disadvantages was primarily self-reported, which may lead to potential recall bias. Finally, the cross-sectional design of this study cannot capture causal associations well. CONCLUSIONS Adopting multiple healthy lifestyles can well-dilute the depressive risks attributed to life-course disadvantages in middle-aged and older Chinese, which is of great importance for reducing the depressive burden and the construction of healthy aging in China.

Insomnia is a sleep disorder which severely affects patients mood, quality of life and social functioning, serves as a trigger or risk factor to a variety of diseases such as depression, cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, obesity and diabetes, and even increases the risk of suicide, and has become an increasingly widespread concern worldwide. Considerable research on insomnia has been conducted in modern medicine in recent years and encouraging results have been achieved in the fields of genetics and neurobiology. Unfortunately, however, the pathogenesis of insomnia remains elusive to modern medicine, and pharmacological treatment of insomnia has been regarded as conventional. However, in the course of treatment, pharmacological treatment itself is increasingly being questioned due to potential dependence and drug resistance and is now being replaced by cognitive behavior therapy as the first-line treatment. As an important component of complementary and alternative medicine, traditional Chinese medicine, especially non-pharmacological treatment methods such as acupuncture, is gaining increasing attention worldwide. In this article, we discuss the combination of traditional Chinese medicine, acupuncture, and medicine to treat insomnia based on neurobiology in the context of modern medicine.

Abstract
Sleep disturbance is a major component of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The role of circadian disruption is largely overlooked, though many PTSD studies collect proxy markers of circadian timing. This individual participant data (IPD) meta-analysis examined the correlation between sleep timing / chronotype and PTSD severity among individuals diagnosed with PTSD, the standardized mean difference in sleep timing / chronotype for individuals with and without PTSD, and moderators of these relationships. A systematic search was conducted; authors provided IPD for 27 studies and aggregate data for 16 studies (3,011 participants with PTSD; 2,703 participants without PTSD). Two-step meta-analyses were conducted using a random-effects multivariate approach with robust variance estimation. Bedtime and wake time were not significantly associated with PTSD symptoms or diagnosis. Less total sleep time / time in bed was weakly associated with greater PTSD symptoms. Moderator analyses revealed that effect sizes were stronger in certain populations and when using wrist actigraphy to measure sleep timing; however, gap maps revealed few studies in moderator categories with the strongest effects. Only two studies measured chronotype, prohibiting strong conclusions. Our findings indicate that the relationship between sleep timing and PTSD is weak; however, key gaps in the literature warrant further study.

Abstract
Civil aviation flight crew and civil aviation air traffic controllers are prone to circadian rhythm abnormalities, which can lead to a slew of other maladies. It could endanger people's health and provide a serious threat to the safety of civil aviation flights if it is not appropriately evaluated and addressed. Early detection of rhythm irregularities and prompt treatment for particular populations that are vulnerable to rhythm disorders are crucial for enhancing civil aviation safety. In general, monitoring of the classical circadian rhythm biomarkers (melatonin or cortisol) in plasma or saliva is an effective way to evaluate the rhythm status. Due to the challenging sample procedure and the trauma of plasma, urine sample testing has received an increasing amount of attention. While, urine circadian rhythm biomarkers have seldom been examined, and the relationship between urinary steroid hormones and melatonin is still poorly understood. In most cases, hormones are determined by immunoassays respectively, mainly enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) or radioimmunoassay (RIA). There are also reports describing the liquid chromatography with tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) technique as a method of melatonin or few steroid hormones quantification, however, the simultaneous detection of multiple rhythmic hormones in human urine is rarely reported. For the quantification of the rhythmic hormones in human urine, an accurate approach using ultra performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS/MS) was devised in this work. Nine endogenous hormones (melatonin, 6-hydroxymelatonin, 6-sulfatoxymelatonin, cortisol, corticosterone, cortisone, testosterone, epitestosterone and androsterone), in human overnight urine, were quantified after solid phase extraction (SPE). A reverse phase HSS C18 column was used for chromatographic separation with a 9-minute gradient elution and deuterated analogues of each analyte were applied as internal standards. This method was successfully applied to the analysis of 596 overnight urine samples (23:00-9:00) collected from 84 air traffic controllers in the Beijing area during shift work. This study's findings showed a clear correlation not only between melatonin and its metabolites; cortisol-related metabolites, but also between melatonin metabolites and endogenous metabolites upstream and downstream of cortisol, implying that these two categories of hormones can be used as potential biological rhythm indicators to provide circadian rhythm data support for future studies on circadian rhythm disorders.

Adverse childhood experiences and Chinese young adults' sleep quality: Moderation of resting respiratory sinus arrhythmia. Int J Psychophysiol 2023; 184:12-19. Abstract
This study examined the moderating roles of resting respiratory sinus arrhythmia (RSA) in the relations between adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and sleep quality (i.e., sleep efficiency, perceived sleep quality, and daily disturbances) in young adulthood. Chinese young adults (N = 259; Mage = 25.85 years) reported on their adverse childhood experiences retrospectively and current sleep quality. Their electrocardiogram (ECG) and respiration data were recorded while they were seated resting and resting RSA scores were computed. Results indicated that ACEs were associated with poor perceived sleep quality and greater daily disturbances among young adults who showed low resting RSA. The associations were not significant among those who showed high resting RSA. These findings suggest that high resting RSA may serve as a protective factor for young adults' sleep against adverse childhood experiences and these effects were consistent for different biological sex and sexual orientation groups.

Abstract
A recent scandal in the Netherlands painfully underscored that sexual harassment and abuse are unfortunately still happening around the world, even after decades of advocacy on this issue and five years of #MeToo. To make progress in prevention and treatment we argue that we should address sexual violence from a public health perspective. Fruthermore, looking back on the past year, the COVID-19 pandemic was the dominant and potentially traumatic stressor affecting large populations around the world. Another big topic was that of the impact of climate change, we are only beginning to realize its impact on stress across the globe. The European Journal of Psychotraumatology (EJPT), with its increasing global readership and scientific and social impact, is focusing on the traumatic stress aspects of these and many other events. Relatedly, neurobiological aspects are an important and growing focus of the journal in that they help us better understand the mechanisms behind the development of trauma-related disorders and their treatment. In this editorial, we present recent trends, new Open Science developments, journal metrics, the plans and themes for next year and the ESTSS EJPT award winners for best paper of 2021. Highlights Next years' research focus should be on sexual violence from a public health lens, climate change, and neurobiologal aspects of trauma-related disorders. The European Journal of Psychotraumatology (EJPT) calls or papers on these issues.
