Abstract
OBJECTIVE To evaluate the impact of mindfulness sessions and weekly wellness messages embedded in course content on pharmacy students' well-being as measured by resilience and perceived stress scale. METHODS Pharmacy students enrolled in 2 required courses participated in in-class mindfulness sessions and weekly wellness messages for 10 weeks to improve their physical and mental well-being. The study was conducted with 2 student class cohorts in the 2022-2023 and 2023-2024 academic years. Students' resilience and perceived stress levels were measured using the Connor-Davidson resilience scale-10 and perceived stress scale-10, respectively, before and after the wellness intervention. Additionally, students' perceptions of the intervention's helpfulness were collected in the end-of-the-semester course evaluations. RESULTS Following the intervention, participants (n = 30) demonstrated a significant increase in resilience scores (27.33 SD 5.19 vs 24.77 SD 4.89, Cohen's d = 0.54) and a statistically insignificant reduction in perceived stress scores (17.43 SD 5.18 vs 19.00 SD 6.09, Cohen's d = 0.24) compared to preintervention levels. Collated end-of-the-semester course evaluations indicated that 76.35% (113/148) and 68.92% (102/148) of students found the in-class mindfulness sessions and weekly wellness messages, respectively, helpful. Thematic analysis of students' comments revealed that mindfulness sessions promoted stress reduction, improved focus, and stress management. Wellness messages were associated with increased optimism, resilience, and focused attention among students. CONCLUSION Integrating wellness activities (such as mindfulness sessions and wellness messages), into the course content can enhance well-being by improving students' resilience and focused attention.

Abstract
PURPOSE Little is known about the relationship between learner load and pharmacist and pharmacy technician burnout. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to examine the association between burnout and the number of learners (residents, students, and new employees) assigned to pharmacists or pharmacy technicians. METHODS A validated survey to measure burnout and professional fulfillment was administered to employees of a university health system's pharmacy service in 2019. A threshold analysis determined the optimal cutoff for number of learners trained that maximized the ability to predict binary outcomes. Chi-square and Fisher's exact tests were used, and effect sizes between percentages were reported. Finally, the adjusted associations between number of learners and outcomes were assessed using logistic regression. RESULTS A total of 448 pharmacy staff members were included in the analysis. Of those, 57% (n = 254) worked in ambulatory care, 27.4% (n = 122) worked in an inpatient setting, and 15.7% (n = 70) worked in infrastructure. Pharmacists working in an inpatient setting who reported training 4 or more learners per year indicated significantly higher rates of burnout than those training fewer learners on both a single-item burnout assessment (64.3% vs 31.0%; P = 0.01; effect size, 0.68) and a 10-item burnout assessment (54.8% vs 13.8%; P = 0.01; effect size, 0.91). Similar results were not observed in pharmacists working in ambulatory care and infrastructure positions or in pharmacy technicians. CONCLUSION Added precepting and training responsibilities may be associated with higher levels of burnout among pharmacy team members, particularly inpatient pharmacists.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Mental health problems are critical and common in medical staff working in Intensive Care Units (ICU) even at the late stage of COVID-19, particularly for nurses. There is little research to explore the inner relationships between common syndromes, such as depression and burnout. Network analysis (NA) was a novel approach to quantified the correlations between mental variables from the perspective of mathematics. This study was to investigate the interactions between burnout and depression symptoms through NA among ICU nurses. METHOD A cross-sectional study with a total of 616 Chinese nurses in ICU were carried out by convenience sampling from December 19, 2022 to January19, 2023 via online survey. Burnout symptoms were measured by Maslach Burnout Inventory-General Survey (MBI-GS) (Chinese version), and depressive symptoms were assessed by the 9-item Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9). NA was applied to build interactions between burnout and depression symptoms. We identified central and bridge symptoms by R package qgraph in the network model. R package bootnet was used to examined the stability of network structure. RESULTS The prevalence of burnout and depressive symptoms were 48.2% and 64.1%, respectively. Within depression-burnout network, PHQ4(Fatigue)-MBI2(Used up) and PHQ4(Fatigue)-MBI5(Breakdown) showed stronger associations. MBI2(Used up) had the strongest expected influence central symptoms, followed by MBI4(Stressed) and MBI7 (Less enthusiastic). For bridge symptoms. PHQ4(Fatigue), MBI5(Breakdown) and MBI2(Used up) weighed highest. Both correlation stability coefficients of central and bridge symptoms in the network structure were 0.68, showing a high excellent level of stability. CONCLUSION The symptom of PHQ4(Fatigue) was the bridge to connect the emotion exhaustion and depression. Targeting this symptom will be effective to detect mental disorders and relieve mental syndromes of ICU nurses at the late stage of COVID-19 pandemic.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES The purpose of this narrative review is to summarize the literature on well-being and burnout among community pharmacists in the U.S. and provide recommendations for future research. METHODS Relevant literature was identified by searching PubMed for combinations of keywords such as "burnout" and "well-being" combined with "pharmacists." Titles and abstracts were reviewed for relevancy, and full text articles were reviewed when applicable. RESULTS While burnout is defined by its 3 core symptoms of emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and low personal accomplishment, well-being is more challenging to define and measure, which has led to it being less studied. Community pharmacists faced high rates of burnout, low quality of life (QOL), and extreme fatigue prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, a situation that has likely only worsened. Factors such as workload, the type of community pharmacy, the level of education or training of the pharmacist, and stress may be some of the contributors to high rates of burnout. Clinician burnout may be related to high rates of mental health disorders seen in pharmacists, may impact patient safety and satisfaction, and may affect productivity and costs to employers and the healthcare system overall. There has been no research into interventions or strategies to support well-being and reduce burnout among community pharmacists, but having a workplace that is perceived as supporting well-being may have some impact. Recommendations for future research include the following: (1) define well-being, (2) explore why various factors support well-being or contribute to burnout, (3) determine the impact of community pharmacists experiencing well-being or burnout, and (4) develop strategies to support well-being and reduce burnout that are specific to community pharmacy. CONCLUSION There is a sparsity of evidence regarding community pharmacist well-being and burnout. Further research is needed to generate the evidence needed to support interventions that are specific to the unique work setting of community pharmacists.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Burnout of health professionals is of concern internationally and the pharmacy profession is no exception. The period of transition from University to autonomous practitioner is recognized to be challenging and these Early Career Pharmacists (ECPs), may be at increased risk of stress and burnout. OBJECTIVES This study aimed to collect data on the current extent of self-identified stress and burnout, of ECPs, and to (i) identify contributing factors and (ii) identify strategies used to manage this stress. METHODS This study was conducted in Aotearoa New Zealand and was based on a survey used previously in Australia. A national database was used to identify all pharmacists who had been registered for <10 years. The survey was emailed to each pharmacist, and was further advertised through social media platforms. RESULTS A total of 1418 ECPs were identified and invited to participate, and responses were received by 416 of these. The majority of respondents were female (73%) and community pharmacy based (79%). A vast majority (89%) indicated that a normal working day was at least moderately stressful with 79% indicating a level of burnout. These reflect a combination of "external" stressors, i.e. negative patient interactions, staff shortages, and "internal" stressors, i.e. fear of making a mistake, adjustment from University to working life. CONCLUSIONS Stress and burnout appear to be widespread in the ECPs, this study highlights areas of concern and potential support where efforts can be focussed to create a more sustainable working environment.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Board certification has been associated with job satisfaction. Identifying factors influencing board-certified pharmacists' job satisfaction can assist employers in recruitment and retention. OBJECTIVES To identify factors associated with job satisfaction among board-certified pharmacists in Virginia. METHODS This cross-sectional study utilized data from the 2018 Virginia Pharmacy Workforce Survey and included pharmacists who held an active license in Virginia, were employed within the last year, and held any Board of Pharmacy Specialties certification. Descriptive statistics were used to summarize the data, and bivariate analyses compared job satisfaction across demographics and practice characteristics. Multivariable logistic regression identified factors associated with job satisfaction. RESULTS Of 15,424 licensed pharmacists, 13,962 completed the survey (90.5%), while 1,284 (9.2%) met the inclusion criteria. Respondents were primarily female (69.4%) with a mean (SD) of 10.5 (9.6) years of work experience. Pharmacists predominantly held one full-time position (81.5%), earned an annual income between $100,000-$149,999 (77.0%), and worked in inpatient health systems (43.9%). Most board-certified pharmacists (93.7%) reported being very/somewhat satisfied with their current job. Job satisfaction was associated with work setting, primary hours worked per week, and paid sick leave benefits in bivariate analyses. In the multivariable logistic regression model, pharmacists working 30-49 versus ≥50 h/wk in their primary job (aOR= 2.91, 95% CI 1.63, 5.20), earning ≥$150,000 versus $100,000-$149,999 (aOR=4.60, 95% CI 1.21, 17.46), and with paid sick leave benefits (aOR= 1.92, 95% CI 1.19, 3.10) were more likely to report higher job satisfaction. Additionally, working in academia (aOR= 5.36, 95% CI 1.45, 19.85), inpatient health system (aOR= 3.13, 95% CI 1.41, 6.94), and outpatient health system (aOR= 4.07, 95% CI 1.33, 12.51) were associated with job satisfaction. CONCLUSION Board-certified pharmacists in Virginia reported high job satisfaction. Primary hours worked per week, income, paid sick leave, and work setting were positively associated with job satisfaction.

Abstract
Background Burnout and depression have overlapping symptoms, but the extent of overlap remains unclear, and the complex relationship between burnout and depression in pharmacists is rarely explored. Methods We investigated burnout and depression in 1,322 frontline pharmacists, and explored the complex relationship between burnout and depression in those pharmacists using network analysis. Results Network analysis showed that there were 5 communities. A partial overlap was found between burnout and depressive symptoms in pharmacists. The nodes MBI-6 (I have become more callous toward work since I took this job), D18 (My life is meaningless), and D10 (I get tired for no reason) had the highest expected influence value. D1 (I feel down-hearted and blue) and D14 (I have no hope for the future) were bridge symptoms connected with emotional exhaustion and reduced professional efficacy, respectively. Conclusion A partial overlap exists between burnout and depressive symptoms in pharmacists, mainly in the connection between the emotional exhaustion and reduced professional efficacy and the depressive symptoms. Potential core targets identified in this study may inform future prevention and intervention.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES The COVID-19 pandemic impacted the lives of pharmacists, resulting in new ways of working. Little literature focuses on the experiences and well-being of hospital pharmacists, particularly on paediatric pharmacists. The setting - a paediatric stand-alone tertiary hospital - opened to adult ICU COVID-19 patients for two time periods. Paediatric pharmacists had to shift their roles; this impacted their well-being. Paediatric ICU clinical psychologists provided support using a compassion-focused therapy (CFT) model to guide thinking, reflection and promoting behaviour change. This study aimed to explore the experiences and perceptions of the paediatric pharmacists working in a paediatric stand-alone tertiary hospital before, during and after the admission of adult COVID-19 patients into ICU and their experiences of support offered by clinical psychologists. METHODS A qualitative interpretative design using remote photo-elicitation interviews was adopted. Data analysis was undertaken using the six stages of reflexive thematic analysis. KEY FINDINGS Five paediatric pharmacists participated; four deployed to work in the A-ICU (from PICU) and one deployed to work in the PICU (from ward-based work). An overarching theme, 'Unsettling the fluidity of practice and dealing with threat', is supported by four key themes 'Context and preparation', 'Dread and challenges', 'Keeping it together' and 'Lessons learned'. The fluidity of the pharmacists' practice was unsettled as they dealt with the threats and sought resources (drive) to enable optimal care delivery. Soothe techniques helped compensate for threats, and promote resilience and well-being. CONCLUSION The CFT model has been useful in the longer term with the adoption of a more open, compassionate approach to their work and colleagues.

Abstract
Background: This work aimed to investigate final year pharmacy students’ resilience (as determined by the CD-RISC-25 tool), whether students considered certain aspects of the course to be resilience-building, and the role of the university in developing this attribute. Methods: Following ethical approval and an invitation to participate, data were collected from consenting students at Queen’s University Belfast via a pre-piloted paper-based questionnaire. Descriptive statistics were performed. To ascertain significant differences (p < 0.05) by gender, the Welch Two Sample t-test was used for the CD-RISC-25 mean scores and the Mann-Whitney U Test and Chi-squared test for Section B data. Results: The response rate was 80.61% (79/98). The mean CD-RISC-25 score for males was higher (not significantly) than the female mean score (70.39 versus 67.18, p = 0.2355, possible score range 0−100). While 93.67% (74/79) considered the School has a responsibility to develop resilience, <20.00% availed of the free resilience building events. Activities deemed to help build resilience included being able to make mistakes in a safe environment and needing to achieve a high grade to pass assessments. Conclusions: Resilience levels among future pharmacists at Queen’s University Belfast should be improved going forward. A strategy, developed in light of conducting this research (from one institution), will now be implemented to enhance the curriculum with regard to resilience building opportunities.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Front-line workers (FLW) are at risk for secondary traumatic stress, burnout, and related psychiatric sequelae: depression, anxiety, suicidality, posttraumatic stress disorder, and sleep and substance use disorders. FLW are in need of self-care programs to support their mental health. METHODS Quasi-experimental study to assess the impact of a simple mental well-being and emotional regulation training, the Community Resiliency Model (CRM), using a convenience sample of FLW. Baseline scores of mental well-being and stress measures were compared with follow-up scores at 3 time points. Outcomes were psychological wellness (World Health Organization-5 Well-being Index); resilience (Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale-10); traumatic stress (Secondary Traumatic Stress Scale); physical symptoms (Somatic Symptom Scale-8). RESULTS Of the 104 participants who enrolled and attended the CRM training, 73 (70.2%) completed at least 1 posttest. Well-being scores increased at 1 year with a small-moderate effect size (Cohen d=0.32). Resilience scores increased with a small-moderate effect size by 1 year (Cohen d=0.36). Secondary traumatic stress scores declined, with the largest effect at 1 week (Cohen d=0.49). Somatic symptoms decreased at each posttest, with the largest change occurring from baseline to 1 week (d=0.39). Participants reported an awareness of body sensations helped them when overwhelmed as a means of calming themselves. CONCLUSIONS After a 3-hour CRM training, participants reported improved mental well-being and decreased secondary traumatic stress and somatic symptoms. This simple body awareness intervention may be a good resource during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Abstract
Workforce resilience in pharmacy is required to ensure the practice, education, and administrative systems remain viable and sustainable over time and when facing challenges. Whether it is addressing burnout of pharmacists or students, or the structure and policies/procedures of employment and professional organizations, working to increase resilience across all individuals and sectors is essential to relieve pressure and promote better well-being, especially during the recent pandemic. The purpose of this article is to describe the development of a community of practice global group focused on development of resilience within the pharmacy workforce that is inclusive of students, pharmacy interns/preregistration and registered pharmacists. The steering group meets monthly and has representation of 24 members across eight countries. Members meet to discuss pertinent issues they are facing in practice, as well as to share and progress ideas on education, research, and practice initiatives. To date, members have collectively implemented resilience training in pharmacy education, researched burnout and resilience in both students and pharmacists, and facilitated international collaborations both within and outside core group members. Future activities will focus on strengthening the community of practice in order to harness the power of the collective.

Abstract
The unprecedented changes brought about by the global coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic have had important impacts on society. The pandemic has provided an opportunity to highlight the crucial role pharmacists play in the provision of health care. The critical and unique role of pharmacists in pandemics and other disasters has been highlighted in the past (severe acute respiratory syndrome and Ebola outbreaks) and more recently with reports of the contributions of pharmacists during the global COVID-19 pandemic. Many reports have documented that health care professionals are experiencing significant psychological morbidity as a result of providing essential care and services during the global COVID-19 pandemic. In these reports, pharmacists are not well represented, and, therefore, it is essential to understand the impact of COVID-19 on pharmacists across multiple practice settings. This is particularly true as the experiences of pharmacists working through previous pandemics and disasters, and the associated psychological burden, are likely to offer insights and be useful in supporting the psychological well-being of pharmacists during the global COVID-19 pandemic. Research into the effect of the global COVID-19 pandemic on pharmacists should improve the understanding of the impact and the psychological morbidity associated with their role as frontline health care professionals.

Abstract
Pharmacists, like psychiatrists, have modified their practices amidst COVID-19 in order to guarantee care and support to their patients. Designated an essential frontline service, community pharmacists are facing a spectrum of challenges to surmount to ensure patient care continues. These include assisting in the prevention of infection, managing supply chains, preventing stockpiling and provision of evidence-based medical information. However, disasters like COVID-19 disproportionately affect poor and vulnerable populations, and patients with mental health conditions may be among the hardest hit. Pharmacist-level, system-level and regulatory responses have sought to minimise this impact, although there is likely to be a lasting impression on the profession, both good and bad. This article reviews the pandemic-related challenges and responses by pharmacists, as well as forming recommendation for areas of professional support and role expansion, particularly in the case of mental health.
