Abstract
In recent years, exosomes have garnered extensive attention as therapeutic agents and early diagnostic markers in neurodegenerative disease research. Exosomes are small and can effectively cross the blood-brain barrier, allowing them to target deep brain lesions. Recent studies have demonstrated that exosomes derived from different cell types may exert therapeutic effects by regulating the expression of various inflammatory cytokines, mRNAs, and disease-related proteins, thereby halting the progression of neurodegenerative diseases and exhibiting beneficial effects. However, exosomes are composed of lipid bilayer membranes and lack the ability to recognize specific target cells. This limitation can lead to side effects and toxicity when they interact with non-specific cells. Growing evidence suggests that surface-modified exosomes have enhanced targeting capabilities and can be used as targeted drug-delivery vehicles that show promising results in the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases. In this review, we provide an up-to-date overview of existing research aimed at devising approaches to modify exosomes and elucidating their therapeutic potential in neurodegenerative diseases. Our findings indicate that exosomes can efficiently cross the blood-brain barrier to facilitate drug delivery and can also serve as early diagnostic markers for neurodegenerative diseases. We introduce the strategies being used to enhance exosome targeting, including genetic engineering, chemical modifications (both covalent, such as click chemistry and metabolic engineering, and non-covalent, such as polyvalent electrostatic and hydrophobic interactions, ligand-receptor binding, aptamer-based modifications, and the incorporation of CP05-anchored peptides), and nanomaterial modifications. Research into these strategies has confirmed that exosomes have significant therapeutic potential for neurodegenerative diseases. However, several challenges remain in the clinical application of exosomes. Improvements are needed in preparation, characterization, and optimization methods, as well as in reducing the adverse reactions associated with their use. Additionally, the range of applications and the safety of exosomes require further research and evaluation.

Abstract
CONTEXT Previous studies assessing adapted physical activity (APA) in Parkinson's disease (PD) have been very heterogeneous regarding methodology and intervention, and have generally not addressed the question of combining various types of physical activity with a long-term evaluation. OBJECTIVES To evaluate the immediate and long-term effect of a 3-month APA program, combining endurance, resistance training and stretching on motor symptoms, body composition, cardiorespiratory function and metabolic profile in PD patients. METHODS In this controlled trial, we randomly assigned forty-four PD patients in a 1:1 ratio to receive a 3-month APA program (APA + group, n = 22), or freely practice physical activity (APA- group, n = 22). The patients were evaluated for parkinsonian symptoms (UPDRS-III), body composition, cardiorespiratory function and metabolic profile at baseline, immediately after the end of the program (M3) and six months later (M9). RESULTS Between baseline and M3, the mean UPDRS-III score decreased in PD patients from the APA + group whereas it increased in the APA- group (-1.2 ± 6.6 vs. +1.9 ± 8.9; p = 0.04), regardless of age, sex, disease duration, dopaminergic treatment, UPDRS-III and axial score at baseline, but these between group differences waned at M9. No between group difference was observed regarding the evolution of body composition, metabolic profile or cardiorespiratory function between baseline, M3 and M9. CONCLUSION A 3-month APA program combining endurance and resistance training plus stretching is more efficient for improving motor symptoms in PD compared to an unstructured engagement in non-specific physical activities. However, the benefits fade away six months after discontinuation of the program. Abstract
Appreciation for the utility of creative arts therapy in rehabilitation is on the rise. The limitations of conventional approaches to address posttraumatic stress disorder and co-occurring traumatic brain injury is spurring the development and increased use of creative arts therapies, especially in US military health care systems. However, emerging applications of creative arts therapies in rehabilitation extend well beyond posttraumatic stress disorder/traumatic brain injury and military populations to span the continuum of care, from the intensive care unit, postoperative recovery unit, acute inpatient medical and surgical wards, outpatient clinics, and home health, as well as in traditional long-term care and psychiatric settings. Critical steps to more fully integrating creative arts therapies in rehabilitation include the following: (1) incorporation of education about creative arts therapies into the curricula across rehabilitation disciplines; (2) alteration of national and state policies to promote greater inclusion of creative arts therapies as reimbursable treatments for a wide array of clinical diagnoses and conditions; and (3) significant expansion of creative arts therapies' evidence base. This can be achieved by increasing funding levels to encourage rigorously designed and controlled studies to determine the efficacy, populations, diagnoses and conditions, cofactors, and the mechanisms of action of creative arts therapies. The time has come for a concentrated effort from the community of rehabilitation professional associations, advocacy organizations, and practitioners to promote the advancement and inclusion of creative arts therapies into appropriate clinical settings to optimize outcomes for patients.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Dissecting the neurobiology of dance would shed light on a complex, yet ubiquitous, form of human communication. In this experiment, we sought to study, via mobile electroencephalography (EEG), the brain activity of five experienced dancers while dancing butoh, a postmodern dance that originated in Japan. RESULTS We report the experimental design, methods, and practical execution of a highly interdisciplinary project that required the collaboration of dancers, engineers, neuroscientists, musicians, and multimedia artists, among others. We explain in detail how we technically validated all our EEG procedures (e.g., via impedance value monitoring) and minimized potential artifacts in our recordings (e.g., via electrooculography and inertial measurement units). We also describe the engineering details and hardware that enabled us to achieve synchronization between signals recorded at different sampling frequencies, along with a signal preprocessing and denoising pipeline that we used for data re-sampling and power line noise removal. As our experiment culminated in a live performance, where we generated a real-time visualization of the dancers' interbrain synchrony on a screen via an artistic brain-computer interface, we outline all the methodology (e.g., filtering, time-windows, equation) we used for online bispectrum estimations. Additionally, we provide access to all the raw EEG data and codes we used in our recordings. We, lastly, discuss how we envision that the data could be used to address several hypotheses, such as that of interbrain synchrony or the motor theory of vocal learning. CONCLUSIONS Being, to our knowledge, the first study to report synchronous and simultaneous recording from five dancers, we expect that our findings will inform future art-science collaborations, as well as dance-movement therapies.

Abstract
Research investigating the neural processes related to music perception and production constitutes a well-established field within the cognitive neurosciences. While most neuroimaging tools have limitations in studying the complexity of musical experiences, functional Near-Infrared Spectroscopy (fNIRS) represents a promising, relatively new tool for studying music processes in both laboratory and ecological settings, which is also suitable for both typical and pathological populations across development. Here we systematically review fNIRS studies on music cognition, highlighting prospects and potentialities. We also include an overview of fNIRS basic theory, together with a brief comparison to characteristics of other neuroimaging tools. Fifty-nine studies meeting inclusion criteria (i.e., using fNIRS with music as the primary stimulus) are presented across five thematic sections. Critical discussion of methodology leads us to propose guidelines of good practices aiming for robust signal analyses and reproducibility. A continuously updated world map is proposed, including basic information from studies meeting the inclusion criteria. It provides an organized, accessible, and updatable reference database, which could serve as a catalyst for future collaborations within the community. In conclusion, fNIRS shows potential for investigating cognitive processes in music, particularly in ecological contexts and with special populations, aligning with current research priorities in music cognition.

Abstract
This study looked at the effect of group music therapy on dementia patients' levels of feelings of depression and anxiety. Quasi-experiment was carried out (N = 121) in which patients were randomly divided into a control (N = 61) and an experimental group (N = 60). Following a six-weeks, twelve-sessions trial involving both passive and active music therapy, it was discovered that the music group therapy intervention decreased the anxiety and depression levels of dementia patients in the experimental group as compared to the control group, which did not receive any music therapy. It was also noted that after three months of follow-up, participants in the experimental group still maintained a low level of anxiety and depression, but the control group's level remained high, therefore, substantiating the effect of music in lowering anxiety and depression among older ones. We urge the nursing descipline, medical professionals, carers, and care homes to include music therapy in the care they provide for patients with dementia.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the effects of a dance intervention on selected functional parameters during the 180° turning phase of the Timed Up & Go (TUG) test in people with Parkinson's Disease (PwPD). Methods: Fifteen adults clinically diagnosed with idiopathic PD were allocated into dance intervention (DIG; n = 7 ; age 73 ± 2 years) and control (CG; n = 8; age 64 ± 5 years) groups. The dance intervention lasted for 3 months (1 hour, twice a week). At baseline, all participants completed the Unified PD Rating Scale-part III, the International Physical Activity Questionnaire-short form, and the Hoehn & Yahr scale. Pre- and post-intervention, the primary outcomes were measured (number of steps and time to complete the 180° turning phase of the TUG test) at 2 speeds (comfortable walking and as quickly and safely speed) while using the Xsens® 3D motion suit. The secondary outcome (girdle dissociation) was assessed by calculating the difference between pelvis and affected shoulder orientation in the transverse plane (dissociation angles) at each data point during the TUG test's 180° turning phase. Results: At participant's comfortable walking speed, the functionality during the 180° turning remained unaffected following the dance intervention. However, at participant's fast speed, the dance intervention group significantly reduced the number of steps with a large effect size, and the total time taken to complete the 180° turning with a medium effect size. Post-intervention, most participants in the dance intervention group reduced the affected shoulder and pelvic girdle dissociation and turned more "en bloc." Conclusion: Dance can improve selected functional parameters during the 180° turning at fast speed in PwPD. The current results should be considered in rehabilitation programs.

Abstract
Background Music elicits multifactorial benefits in emotional, social, cognitive, and academic aspects of human life. Music is clinically proven to reduce stress and anxiety, and improve mood and self-expression, particularly after traumatic events. Studies have also demonstrated that music promotes parasympathetic autonomic systems, suppresses hyperactivation of stress responses, and boosts immune functions. However, its ability to promote brain plasticity and signalling are only beginning to be realized. Moreover, its employment as a therapy for the treatment of specific aspects of other neurological disorders, including neurodevelopmental and neurodegenerative conditions and their comorbidities, is fast becoming an interesting field of research. Objective The aim of this review is to summarize some of the recent studies focused on evaluating the applications of music therapy. For this purpose, we have focused on disorders encompassing both temporal extremities of brain developmental stages, from developmental conditions of autism and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), to ageing-related pathologies of Parkinson's disease and dementias. Results The findings of the reviewed studies indicate potent utilities of music-based interventions in beneficially affecting multiple spheres of brain functions, such as sensorimotor, auditory, communication/language, psychological/emotional, behavioural, sleep and memory and cognitive attributes of patients diagnosed with diverse neuropathologies. Nevertheless, lack of standardized protocols for music provision as well as absence of information regarding key aspects, such as cultural and musical orientations of subjects and therapists'/caregivers' attitudes, have hindered the complete realization of music's therapeutic potential for neurological conditions. Further, while some studies have undertaken assessments of core neurophysiological mechanisms underlying music therapy, this information is largely lacking for most clinical studies. Conclusion While this is not an exhaustive review of literature, we do hope that it serves as a platform to promote future research for establishing music therapy as a relevant neurotherapeutic strategy.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Parkinson's disease (PD) causes a decline in motor function, cognitive decline, and impacts the mental health of patients. Due to the high cost and side effects of conventional treatments, the medical community has begun to explore safer and more cost-effective alternative therapies. In this context, arts therapies have gained increasing attention as innovative treatments. This review plans to explore the role and potential of various arts therapies in the rehabilitation of PD patients by analyzing existing literature and case studies. METHODS This review comprehensively searched the literature in several databases, including PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, and China National Knowledge Infrastructure, to assess the effectiveness of different arts therapies in the rehabilitation of patients with PD. RESULTS From 3440 articles screened, 16 met the inclusion criteria. These studies included a variety of therapies, including music, meditation, yoga, art, dance, theatre, video games and play therapy. These different types of arts therapies had a positive impact on the motor, psychological and cognitive rehabilitation of PD patients, respectively. CONCLUSION The existing literature highlights the great potential of arts therapies in the rehabilitation of people with PD, further confirming the efficacy of arts therapies in enhancing the motor, psychological and cognitive rehabilitation process of people with PD. In addition, this review identifies research gaps in the use of color therapy in PD rehabilitation and highlights the need for further exploration of various arts therapies modalities.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Reviews of depression interventions in nursing home residents resulted in positive findings. However, because of the heterogeneity of the studies, it remains unclear what works for whom. Considering moderator effects may contribute to a comprehensive understanding of depression treatment in residents. Therefore, this study aims to review depression interventions, examining moderator effects of (1) residents' factors, and (2) components specific of interventions. METHODS A Bayesian network meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials primarily aimed at reducing depressive symptoms among residents was conducted. First, intervention types, e.g., exercise interventions, were compared to care as usual. Second, meta-regression analyses were conducted for moderator effects of residents' factors (i.e., severity of depressive symptoms, physical dependency, and cognitive impairment) and components identified as specific to an intervention (e.g., music, creativity, positivity). RESULTS Our search across six databases resulted in 118 eligible studies: 16 on neurobiological interventions, 102 on non-pharmacological interventions. Compared to care as usual, cognitive interventions, such as cognitive behavioral therapy and goal-oriented therapy, showed the strongest effects (MD = -1.00, 95% CrI [-1.40 to -0.66]). Furthermore, the severity of depressive symptoms moderated the effect of interventions (ƅ = -0.63, CrI 95% [-1.04 to -0.22]), while none of fifteen identified intervention-specific components did. In residents with a depression diagnosis, there were larger effect sizes for interventions including daily structure, psychoeducation, healthy food, creativity, positivity, and an activating/encouraging environment, whereas interventions focusing on distraction and relaxation had larger effect sizes in those residents without. CONCLUSIONS By examining the moderator effects, we provided an integrative perspective on the observed variations in effects across different target groups, and components of depression interventions. This approach underscores the complex nature of interventions, emphasizing the need for continued transdisciplinary research, and the exploration of potential moderators. Future investigations should carefully assess residents' factors and choose interventions and their components accordingly.

Abstract
Objective This study aimed to investigate the clinical effects of Orff music therapy on children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) from the perspectives of parents, evaluators, and therapists. Methods 93 children with ASD aged 3-6 years participated in the study. They were divided into an observation group (n = 48) receiving comprehensive rehabilitation intervention including Orff music therapy, and a control group (n = 45) receiving only comprehensive rehabilitation intervention. The Autism Behavior Checklist (ABC), Childhood Autism Rating Scale (CARS), and Psycho-educational Profile-3rd edition (PEP-3) were used for assessments before and after the intervention. Results There were no significant demographic differences between the two groups. Both groups showed significant improvements in Sensory, Relating, Language, CVP, EL, RL, VMI, AE, SR, and CARS scores at T1, T2, and T3 (T1 vs. T2, T2 vs. T3, T1 vs. T3) (all p < 0.05). The observation group demonstrated significant changes in Body and Object use and FM, while the control group showed some changes in these domains. Social and self-help, GM, CMB, and CVB also significantly improved in both groups after 6 months of intervention (all p < 0.05). In terms of different time intervals, the observation group showed greater improvements in Sensory, Relating, Language, CARS scores, EL, RL, and SR compared to the control group (all p < 0.05). The improvement levels in Body and Object use, CVP, FM, VMI, and AE did not differ significantly between the two groups in the T1-T2 interval, but were significantly higher in the observation group in the T2-T3 and T1-T3 intervals (all p < 0.05). The magnitude of changes in Social and self-help, GM, CMB, and CVB did not differ significantly between the groups. Conclusion Orff music therapy showed significant improvements in language expression, language comprehension, social skills, cognitive abilities, imitation abilities, emotional expression and fine motor in children with ASD. These findings provide support for the use of Orff music therapy as an effective intervention for children with ASD.

Abstract
Despite the increasing use of music therapy to treat patients with dementia, studies focused on developing nations are still in their embryonic stages. In this view, this study examined the impact of group music therapy intervention in ameliorating depression levels among older people in two care homes. A randomized control trial (RCT) was carried out in which a total of 121 patients were randomly divided into control 61 and experimental group 60. After 6 weeks, 12-session experiment which involved passive and active music therapy, it was found that music group therapy intervention reduced the depression level of older persons in the experimental group, compared to those who were not exposed to the music therapy; control group. The music therapy session also influenced the salivary cortisol of the patients as it was shown to reduce their salivary cortisol levels. It was also observed that after three months of follow-up, participants in the experimental group still maintained a low level of depression and salivary cortisol level, but the control group's level was still high, thus, substantiating the effect of music in reducing depression among older people. We encouraged clinicians, nursing practitioners and care homes in Nigeria to incorporate music therapy as part of the treatment offered to patients with dementia.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The purpose of this review was to investigate the efficacy of rhythmically cued exercise interventions on motor function, cognition, and mental state in patients with Parkinson disease. METHODS PubMed, Cochrane Database, Web of Science, Embase, and CINAHL were searched June 15, 2023. Original studies investigating the efficacy of rhythmically cued exercise interventions on the functions of patients with Parkinson disease were included. The Cochrane risk-of-bias assessment tool was used to evaluate the risk of bias. The protocol was registered in PROSPERO (CRD42022371203). RESULTS A total of 38 original studies involving 1486 participants were included. Rhythmically cued exercise interventions demonstrated superior effects on motor function compared to exercise therapy without rhythm (standardized mean difference [SMD] = -0.31). However, no significant improvements were observed in cognition and mental state. Overall, significant improvements were observed in motor examination (SMD = -0.61), Timed "Up & Go" Test (mean difference [MD] = -0.91), activities of daily living (SMD = -0.49), balance (SMD = 0.59), walking velocity (MD = 0.06), step length (MD = 2.65), and stride length (MD = 0.04) following rhythmically cued exercise interventions. No significant improvements were observed in freezing of gait and cadence. Assessment of publication bias showed no significant evidence of publication bias. Meta-regression analyses revealed a significant association between treatment duration and improvement in motor function. Furthermore, adverse events and dropout rates did not significantly differ between the 2 groups. CONCLUSION Rhythmically cued exercise interventions are effective in improving motor function in the early to middle stages of Parkinson disease. More than 10 weeks of intervention yielded better results. However, these interventions do not have a significant impact on cognition and mental states. Importantly, rhythmically cued exercise interventions are safe and well tolerated. Large-scale trials are needed for further confirmation. IMPACT This study contributes to the development of safe and reliable home rehabilitation programs, aiming to enhance the quality of life for patients with Parkinson disease.

Abstract
Time is an omnipresent aspect of almost everything we experience internally or in the external world. The experience of time occurs through such an extensive set of contextual factors that, after decades of research, a unified understanding of its neural substrates is still elusive. In this study, following the recent best-practice guidelines, we conducted a coordinate-based meta-analysis of 95 carefully-selected neuroimaging papers of duration processing. We categorized the included papers into 14 classes of temporal features according to six categorical dimensions. Then, using the activation likelihood estimation (ALE) technique we investigated the convergent activation patterns of each class with a cluster-level family-wise error correction at p < 0.05. The regions most consistently activated across the various timing contexts were the pre-SMA and bilateral insula, consistent with an embodied theory of timing in which abstract representations of duration are rooted in sensorimotor and interoceptive experience, respectively. Moreover, class-specific patterns of activation could be roughly divided according to whether participants were timing auditory sequential stimuli, which additionally activated the dorsal striatum and SMA-proper, or visual single interval stimuli, which additionally activated the right middle frontal and inferior parietal cortices. We conclude that temporal cognition is so entangled with our everyday experience that timing stereotypically common combinations of stimulus characteristics reactivates the sensorimotor systems with which they were first experienced.

Abstract
Understanding the behavior of the human postural system has become a very attractive topic for many researchers. This system plays a crucial role in maintaining balance during both stationary and moving states. Parkinson's disease (PD) is a prevalent degenerative movement disorder that significantly impacts human stability, leading to falls and injuries. This research introduces an innovative approach that utilizes a hidden Markov model (HMM) to distinguish healthy individuals and those with PD. Interestingly, this methodology employs raw data obtained from stabilometric signals without any preprocessing. The dataset used for this study comprises 60 subjects divided into healthy and PD patients. Impressively, the proposed method achieves an accuracy rate of up to 98% in effectively differentiating healthy subjects from those with PD.

Abstract
Background Parkinson's disease (PD) is a progressive disease, which is associated with the loss of activities of daily living independency. Several rehabilitation options have been studied during the last years, to improve mobility and independency. Objective This systematic review will focus on inpatient multidisciplinary rehabilitation (MR) in people with Parkinson's disease (PwPD), based on recent studies from 2020 onwards. Methods Search strategy in three databases included: multidisciplinary rehabilitation, Parkinson's Disease, inpatient rehabilitation, motor-, functional- and cognitive performance, cost-effectiveness, Quality of Life, and medication changes/Levodopa equivalent daily doses. Results Twenty-two studies were included, consisting of 13 studies dealing with inpatient MR and 9 studies on inpatient non-MR interventions. Inpatient PD multidisciplinary rehabilitation proved to be effective, as well as non-MR rehabilitation. Conclusions This review confirms the efficacy of inpatient MR and non-MR in PD, but is skeptical about the past and current study designs. New study designs, including new physical training methods, more attention to medication and costs, new biomarkers, artificial intelligence, and the use of wearables, will hopefully change rehabilitation trials in PwPD in the future.

Abstract
Introduction Dance can positively impact older people's health and wellbeing across cultures and socioeconomic groups, countering age-related physical, sensorimotor and cognitive decline. Background/objectives The RIPE (Really Is Possible for Everyone) Dance program aims to improve older people's physical, mental, cognitive and social wellbeing by integrating engaging dance sequences with evidence-based fall prevention exercises. We sought to identify what mechanisms support observed long-term participation in this program, including by people living with challenging health conditions. Methods Following a realist evaluation approach, we co-developed and tested program theories iteratively with participant interviewees (n = 20), dance teachers (n = 2) and via observation of a dance class. Initial data were dual-coded and emergent findings were interrogated by the research team. Findings were organised to express Program activities + Context + Mechanism = Process outcomes configurations. Results We identified four program theories comprising 14 mechanisms which explained long-term attendance: 1. RIPE Dance benefits my body and mind (trust in the program, belief in health benefits), 2. RIPE Dance helps me feel good about myself (self-efficacy, pride in achievement, psychological safety, defying expectations, feeling valued), 3. RIPE Dance creates camaraderie (social connection, mutual support, rapport with the teacher), and 4. RIPE Dance is uplifting (raised spirits, fun, synchrony, musical reactivity). Conclusion The RIPE Dance program provides effective and enjoyable 'exercise in disguise' for older people with diverse mobility profiles. Significance/implications This research confirms that participation in dance can contribute significantly to healthy, happy ageing. Findings detail program activities that were most strongly associated with process outcomes, offering guidance for further program development, implementation and scaling up.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE The COVID-19 global pandemic has necessitated the urgency for innovative mental health interventions. We performed a comprehensive review of the available literature on the utility and efficacy of arts therapies in treating mental health problems, with special emphasis on their deployment during the COVID-19 pandemic, aiming to provide some evidence for the application of this therapy. METHODS The potential studies were systematically sourced from five authoritative databases: PubMed, Embase, the Cochrane Library, Web of Science, and the CNKI database. The evaluation of these studies was conducted based on stringent criteria, including validity, suitability, therapeutic potential, and consistency. Each piece of included literature was meticulously scored in accordance with these criteria, thus ensuring the inclusion of only the most robust studies in this review. The data from these Randomized Controlled Trials (RCTs) were carefully extracted using the PICO(S) framework, ensuring a comprehensive and systemic approach to data collection. In order to emphasize the variability in the effects of differing arts therapies on COVID-19-induced psychiatric disturbances, the sourced literature was systematically categorized and scrutinized based on distinct modalities. RESULTS Out of the 7,250 sourced articles, 16 satisfied the inclusion conditions. The therapies were predominantly meditation (n = 7), supplemented by individual studies on color therapy (n = 3), music therapy (n = 2), and single studies on horticultural therapy, dance therapy, mindfulness and music therapy, and yoga and music therapy (n = 4 collectively). These various forms of arts therapies had a positive short to medium-term impact on the mental health of COVID-19 patients. Besides improving patients' physical and mental health, these therapies can also be employed to mitigate mental health issues among healthcare professionals. CONCLUSION The COVID-19 pandemic has profound and long-lasting implications for public mental health. Diverse forms of arts therapies are potentially effective in addressing related psychiatric symptoms. The integration of artificial intelligence might further enhance the efficacy and scalability of arts therapies in future implementations.

Abstract
Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a chronic inflammatory, autoimmune disease of the Central Nervous System with a vast spectrum of clinical phenotypes. A major aspect of its clinical presentation is cerebellar ataxia where physiotherapy and treatment modalities play a significant role on its management. This systematic review aims to investigate the physiotherapeutic rehabilitation techniques regarding the management of cerebellar ataxia due to MS and secondary to stratify each protocol as part of a multi structural personalized rehabilitation approach based on the gravity of the symptoms. A Pubmed Medline, Scopus and Web of Science research was performed using the corresponding databases. The results were screened by the authors in pairs. In our study, six (6) non-pharmacological interventional protocols, 3 Randomized Controlled Trials and 3 pilot studies, were included with a total of 145 MS patients. Physiotherapeutic techniques, such as NDT-Bobath, robotic and visual biofeedback re-education protocols and functional rehabilitation techniques were included. In most cases cerebellar ataxic symptoms were decreased post-treatment. The overall quality of the studies included was of moderate level (level B). Rehabilitation in cerebellar ataxia due to MS should be based on multicentric studies with the scope of adjusting different types of treatments and physiotherapeutic techniques based on the severity of the symptom.

Abstract
Altered expression of multiple miRNAs was found to be extensively involved in the pathogenesis of different neurological disorders including Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, stroke, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, and Huntington's disease. One of the biggest concerns within gene-based therapy is the delivery of the therapeutic microRNAs to the intended place, which is obligated to surpass the biological barriers without undergoing degradation in the bloodstream or renal excretion. Hence, the delivery of modified and unmodified miRNA molecules using excellent vehicles is required. In this light, mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) have attracted increasing attention. The MSCs can be genetically modified to express or overexpress a particular microRNA aimed with promote neurogenesis and neuroprotection. The current review has focused on the therapeutic capabilities of microRNAs-overexpressing MSCs to ameliorate functional deficits in neurological conditions.

Abstract
The potential of socially assistive robots (SAR) to assist in rehabilitation has been demonstrated in contexts such as stroke and cardiac rehabilitation. Our objective was to design and test a platform that addresses specific cognitive-motor training needs of individuals with Parkinson's disease (IwPD). We used the participatory design approach, and collected input from a total of 62 stakeholders (IwPD, their family members and clinicians) in interviews, brainstorming sessions and in-lab feasibility testing of the resulting prototypes. The platform we developed includes two custom-made mobile desktop robots, which engage users in concurrent cognitive and motor tasks. IwPD (n = 16) reported high levels of enjoyment when using the platform (median = 5/5) and willingness to use the platform in the long term (median = 4.5/5). We report the specifics of the hardware and software design as well as the detailed input from the stakeholders.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Movement sonification, the use of real-time auditory feedback linked to movement parameters, have been proposed to support rehabilitation. Nevertheless, if promising results have been reported, the effect of the type of sound used has not been studied systematically. The aim of this study was to investigate in a single session the effect of different types of sonification both quantitatively and qualitatively on patients with acquired brain lesions and healthy participants. METHODS An experimental setup enabling arm sonification was developed using three different categories of sonification (direct sound modulation, musical interaction, and soundscape). Simple moving forward movements performed while sliding on a table with both arms were investigated with all participants. Quantitative analysis on the movement timing were performed considering various parameters (sound condition, affected arm and dominance, sonification categories). Qualitative analysis of semi-structured interviews were also conducted, as well as neuropsychological evaluation of music perception. RESULTS For both the patient and healthy groups (15 participants each), average duration for performing the arm movement is significantly longer with sonification compared to the no-sound condition (p < 0.001). Qualitative analysis of semi-structured interviews revealed different aspects of motivational and affective aspects of sonification. Most participants of both groups preferred to complete the task with sound (29 of 30 participants), and described the experience as playful (22 of 30 participants). More precisely, the soundscape (nature sounds) was the most constantly preferred (selected first by 14 of 30 participants). CONCLUSION Overall, our results confirm that the sonification has an effect on the temporal execution of the movement during a single-session. Globally, sonification is welcomed by the participants, and we found convergent and differentiated appreciations of the different sonification types.

Abstract
This study investigated the determination of exercise intensity for a rhythmik exercise program based on cardiopulmonary functions. Nine female participants in their 20s to 40s performed a rhythmik exercise program for 60 min per session, three sessions weekly, for 8 weeks. All participants underwent a grade exercise test to measure their minute ventilation (VE), oxygen uptake (VO2), maximal volume of minute oxygen consumption (VO2max), heart rate (HR), and oxygen pulse (O2 pulse) at the time of anaerobic threshold (AT) and maximal exercise time (ETmax). To determine the exercise intensity of the rhythmik exercise program, the Polar Heart Monitor was used for quantification, and the Borg Scale was used to measure the rating of perceived exertion (RPE). We did not observe any significant effects on the reaching time of AT, VE, VO2, VO2max, HR, and O2 pulse at either AT or ETmax. However, maximal value of VE (VEmax) was significantly enhanced at ETmax. The exercise intensity of the rhythmik exercise program was found to be low at 62.85% of HRmax with an RPE of 12.22. Our results suggest that the rhythmik exercise program did not directly improve cardiopulmonary functions; however, considering the unstructured nature of the rhythmik exercise program, anticipated positive effects on cardiopulmonary fitness are achievable through changes in the program contents and exercise time according to the goals of the participants.

Abstract
Music is both universal, appearing in every known human culture, and culture-specific, often defying intelligibility across cultural boundaries. This duality has been the source of debate within the broad community of music researchers, and there have been significant disagreements both on the ontology of music as an object of study and the appropriate epistemology for that study. To help resolve this tension, I present a culture-cognition-mediator model that situates music as a mediator in the mutually constitutive cycle of cultures and selves representing the ways individuals both shape and are shaped by their cultural environments. This model draws on concepts of musical grammars and schema, contemporary theories in developmental and cultural psychology that blur the distinction between nature and nurture, and recent advances in cognitive neuroscience. Existing evidence of both directions of causality is presented, providing empirical support for the conceptual model. The epistemological consequences of this model are discussed, specifically with respect to transdisciplinarity, hybrid research methods, and several potential empirical applications and testable predictions as well as its import for broader ontological conversations around the evolutionary origins of music itself.

Abstract
Cueing and feedback training can be effective in maintaining or improving gait in individuals with Parkinson's disease. We previously designed a rehabilitation assist device that can detect and classify a user's gait at only the swing phase of the gait cycle, for the ease of data processing. In this study, we analyzed the impact of various factors in a gait detection algorithm on the gait detection and classification rate (GDCR). We collected acceleration and angular velocity data from 25 participants (1 male and 24 females with an average age of 62 ± 6 years) using our device and analyzed the data using statistical methods. Based on these results, we developed an adaptive GDCR control algorithm using several equations and functions. We tested the algorithm under various virtual exercise scenarios using two control methods, based on acceleration and angular velocity, and found that the acceleration threshold was more effective in controlling the GDCR (average Spearman correlation -0.9996, p < 0.001) than the gyroscopic threshold. Our adaptive control algorithm was more effective in maintaining the target GDCR than the other algorithms (p < 0.001) with an average error of 0.10, while other tested methods showed average errors of 0.16 and 0.28. This algorithm has good scalability and can be adapted for future gait detection and classification applications.

Abstract
PURPOSE To summarize the available evidence from systematic reviews with meta-analysis on the effects of music-based interventions in adults diagnosed with cancer. METHODS An overview of systematic reviews was conducted. CINHAL, Embase, PEDro, PubMed, Scopus, the Cochrane Library and Web of Science were searched from inception until November 2022. Systematic reviews with meta-analysis in individuals with cancer (any type), any comparator, and outcomes of cancer-related pain, fatigue, and psychosocial symptoms were eligible. The methodological quality of systematic reviews and the amount of spin of information in the abstract were assessed. The Graphical Representation of Overlap for OVErviews tool (GROOVE) was used to explore the overlap of primary studies among systematic reviews. RESULTS Thirteen systematic reviews, with over 9000 participants, containing 119 randomized trials and 34 meta-analyses of interest, were included. Music-based interventions involved passive music listening or patients' active engagement. Most systematic reviews lacked a comprehensive search strategy, did not assess the certainty in the evidence and discussed their findings without considering the risk of bias of primary studies. The degree of overlap was moderate (5.81%). Overall, combining music-based interventions and standard care seems to be more effective than standard care to reduce cancer-related pain, fatigue, and distress. Mixed findings were found for other psychosocial measures. CONCLUSION Music-based interventions could be an interesting approach to modulate cancer-related pain, fatigue, and distress in adults with cancer. The variability among interventions, together with important methodological biases, detract from the clinical relevance of these findings.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Individuals with Down syndrome (DS) exhibit deficits in static and dynamic balance abilities and maladaptive functions. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of dance movement therapy (DMT) group intervention in individuals with DS. METHODS The 31 participating individuals with DS, aged 5-29 years, were randomly divided into intervention (n = 16) and control (n = 15) groups. Posturography was used for static balance measurement, timed up and go test for dynamic balance measurement and the Achenbach System of Empirically Based Assessment (ASEBA) questionnaire for adaptive function and behavioural problem measurement in participants before and after the DMT interventions. The intervention group underwent 60-min DMT intervention once a week for 10 times, while the control group had usual daily activities. RESULTS The results revealed a statistically significant difference and large effect sizes in dynamic balance [(f(1, 29) = 4.52, P = 0.04, ηp 2 = 0.14)] in the intervention group compared with the control group. There were no statistically significant differences in static balance and ASEBA scores between the groups. CONCLUSIONS This study found that the DMT interventions helped to improve the dynamic balance in individuals with DS.

Abstract
Parkinson's disease (PD) is a neurodegenerative disorder that affects >1% of individuals worldwide and is manifested by motor symptoms such as tremor, rigidity, and bradykinesia, as well as non-motor symptoms such as cognitive impairment and depression. Non-pharmacological interventions such as dance therapy are becoming increasingly popular as complementary therapies for PD, in addition to pharmacological treatments that are currently widely available. Dance as a sensorimotor activity stimulates multiple layers of the neural system, including those involved in motor planning and execution, sensory integration, and cognitive processing. Dance interventions in healthy older people have been associated with increased activation of the prefrontal cortex, as well as enhanced functional connectivity between the basal ganglia, cerebellum, and prefrontal cortex. Overall, the evidence suggests that dance interventions can induce neuroplastic changes in healthy older participants, leading to improvements in both motor and cognitive functions. Dance interventions involving patients with PD show better quality of life and improved mobility, whereas the literature on dance-induced neuroplasticity in PD is sparse. Nevertheless, this review argues that similar neuroplastic mechanisms may be at work in patients with PD, provides insight into the potential mechanisms underlying dance efficacy, and highlights the potential of dance therapy as a non-pharmacological intervention in PD. Further research is warranted to determine the optimal dance style, intensity, and duration for maximum therapeutic benefit and to determine the long-term effects of dance intervention on PD progression.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Physical exercise is considered an effective intervention for maintaining or improving quality of life (QoL) in patients with Parkinson disease (PD), but there is no evidence showing which type of physical exercise intervention has more positive effects. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to synthesize the evidence regarding the effectiveness of exercise interventions on improving QoL in patients with PD, comparing different types of exercise interventions. METHODS A literature search was conducted through January 2022. The methodological quality of the trials was assessed using the Cochrane risk of bias tool RoB2. For the meta-analysis, physical exercise interventions were classified into 5 training categories: resistance, endurance, alternative exercises, dance, and sensorimotor interventions. A standard meta-analysis and network meta-analysis were carried out to evaluate the efficacy of the different types of physical exercise interventions. RESULTS The search retrieved 2451 studies, 48 of which were included in this network meta-analysis with a total of 2977 patients with PD. The indirect effects of the network meta-analysis showed positive results for alternative exercises (-0.46; 95% confidence interval [CI]: -0.76, -0.16), dance (-0.63; 95% CI: -1.08, -0.17), and sensorimotor interventions (-0.23; 95% CI: -0.40, -0.07) versus control comparisons. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS More research is needed to determine the types of physical exercise interventions that are most beneficial and for which conditions of the disease they have the most positive effects.Video Abstract available for more insights from the authors (see the Video, Supplemental Digital Content 1, http://links.lww.com/JNPT/A398 ).

Abstract
BACKGROUND Music Therapy (MT) is a unique treatment method for Persons with Multiple Sclerosis (PwMS) that can accelerate their functional recovery. MT has been proven to adjust the gait performance of PwMS in a short period. Its therapeutic effects in gait disorders of PwMS for long-term intervention are also starting to draw interest, but it has yet to be investigated. AIM This review aimed to systematically examine the outcomes of PwMS with gait disorders after receiving MT intervention. METHODS A systematic review has been performed using several academic databases with keywords such as music therapy, multiple sclerosis, and gait. The study protocol was registered on PROSPERO (CRD42022365668). RESULTS A total of 405 studies were initially identified. After applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria, twelve studies were finally included. The results showed that all PwMS received MT intervention with different strategies, and ten studies confirmed that gait disorders of PwMS were effectively improved by MT intervention. CONCLUSION Most previous studies focused on the transient effects of MT on the gait performance of PwMS. This review bridges gaps in the long-term intervention of MT on gait disorders of PwMS and offers references for therapists to design treatment plans. According to this review, MT intervention has positive therapeutic effects on gait disorders in PwMS.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to review and quantify the changes in gait parameters after therapeutic intervention in adults with neurologic disorders. DATA SOURCES A keyword search was performed in 4 databases: PubMed, CINAHL, Scopus, and Web of Science (01/2000-12/2021). We performed the search algorithm including all possible combinations of keywords. Full-text articles were examined further using forward/backward search methods. STUDY SELECTION Studies were thoroughly screened using the following inclusion criteria: Study design: randomized controlled trial; adults ≥55 years old with a neurologic disorder; therapeutic intervention; spatiotemporal gait characteristics; and language: English. DATA EXTRACTION A standardized data extraction form was used to collect the following methodological outcome variables from each of the included studies: author, year, population, age, sample size, and spatiotemporal gait parameters such as cadence, step length, step width, or double limb support. A meta-analysis was performed among trials presenting with similar characteristics, including study population and outcome measure. If heterogeneity was >50%, a random plot analysis was used; otherwise, a fixed plot analysis was done. DATA SYNTHESIS We included 25 out of 34 studies in our meta-analysis that examined gait in adults with neurologic disorders. All analyses used effect sizes and standard error and a P<.05(denoted by *) threshold was considered statistically significant. Overall, we found that sensory (SS) and electrical stimulation (ES) had the most significant effect on step length (SS: z=5.44*, ES: z=2.42*) and gait speed (SS: z=6.19*, ES: z=7.38*) in adults with Parkinson disease (PD). Although balance or physical activity interventions were not found to be effective in modifying step length in adults with PD, they showed a significant effect on gait speed. Further, physical activity had the most significant effect on cadence in adults with PD (z=2.84*) relative to sensory stimulation effect on cadence (z=2.59*). For stroke, conventional physical therapy had the most significant effect on step length (z=3.12*) and cadence (z=3.57*). CONCLUSION Sensory stimulation such as auditory and somatosensory stimulation while walking had the most significant effect on step length in adults with PD. We also found that conventional physical therapy did improve spatial gait parameters relative to other physical activity interventions in adults with PD and stroke.

Abstract
Community engagement experiences through National Biomechanics Day (NBD) that focused on dance biomechanics have provided excellent Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math (STEAM) learning opportunities. During these experiences, bidirectional learning has been enjoyed by the biomechanists hosting the events and the kindergarten through 12th grade student attendees. In this article, perspectives are shared about dance biomechanics and hosting dance-themed NBD events. Importantly, examples of high school student feedback are provided that point towards the positive impact of NBD by inviting future generations to advance the field of biomechanics.

Aim: To assess the clinical effectiveness of a comprehensive rehabilitation program for patients with Parkinson’s disease Materials and Methods: The study was conducted in the regional center for movement disorders (Odesa, Ukraine). 90 patients with 1-2.5 Hoehn-Yahr stage were examined. Patients were randomly assigned to three groups (I (n=30) – standard drug therapy, II (n=30) – standard drug therapy +physical therapy, III (n=30) – standard drug therapy +physical therapy+ art therapy). The effectiveness of the therapy was assessed using the UPDRS questionnaires, Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA), and Pegboard Test. The follow-up period was 12 months.
Results: Patients of the II and III groups noted an improvement in mood after physical exertion. They observed a decrease in daytime sleepiness, a decrease in tremors, and a decrease in the intensity of anxiety and fear. During the observation period, signs of disease progression were observed only in 4 (13.3%) patients of group II, in 2 (6.7%) patients of group III and in 12 (40.0%) ) patients of the control group (respectively, χ2 = 4.18 p = 0.04 and χ2 = 7.55 p = 0.006)
Conclusions: 1. The use of complex rehabilitation allows to reduce the severity of motor and non-motor manifestations of Parkinson's disease.
2. The inclusion of art therapy in the complex rehabilitation program allows to halve the number of cases of disease progression. 3. The positive effect of the use of comprehensive rehabilitation is maintained throughout the observation period.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Freezing of gait (FOG) is one of the major debilitating motor symptoms that affect Parkinson's disease (PD) patients' gait,OBJECTIVE:To investigate the effect of dancing on FOG, motor symptoms, and balance in patients with Parkinsonism. METHODS Eight databases were searched for full-text English randomized control trials (RCTs). The freezing of gait (FOG) was the primary outcome while the balance and Unified Parkinson Disease Rating Scale (UPDRS-3) were the secondary outcomes. Methodological quality was evaluated by the Physiotherapy Evidence Database (PEDro) scale. Level of evidence was assessed by Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation (GRADE) system. A random-effect model of meta-analysis was used to calculate the standardized mean difference (SMD) at a 95% confidence interval (CI), and the effect size. RESULTS A total of nine studies (263 patients) were included. Qualitative data related to participants, dancing type, measured outcomes, and follow-up were extracted. PEDro scale showed one fair-quality and eight high-quality studies. GRADE showed a low to very low level of evidence with moderate effect size on both UPDRS (SMD -70 [-1.04, -0.36]) and Balance (SMD 0.35 [0.08, 0.63]). CONCLUSION Dance is an effective modality on improving UPDRS and balance with small effect on FOG. Further high-quality studies with high-quality of evidence are recommended to increase the confidence to the effect estimate and support the finding results.

Abstract
Objective: This study aimed to compare the regulation of brain activity by different kinds of long-term exercises (Tai Chi, treadmill training, and dancing) in healthy older adults and those with PD.Methods: From January 2000 to October 2021, the electronic databases PubMed, Web of Science, and Scopus were searched. All articles were screened throughout the inclusion and exclusion criteria, which was followed by PICOS criteria. Finally, all articles were systematically reviewed with analyses.Results: 29 studies were identified for this review, 24 of which were finally included in a group of healthy older adults, and five of which in a group of people with PD. All studies showed that significant changes were showed on people with PD and healthy older adults’ brain activity after three terms of the exercises we chose. An inverse change trend on the functional connectivity in people with PD was observed after treadmill training, whereas increased brain activity, cognitive function, memory, and emotion were noticed in healthy older adults.Conclusion: Our findings suggest that different patterns of brain activity were also observed between healthy older adults and people with PD after treadmill training. However, more robust evidence and comprehensive studies are needed to determine if there is a difference between healthy older adults and people with PD.

Abstract
Objective To explore the effect of independently developed transcranial pulsed current stimulation (tPCS) on alleviating athlete's mental fatigue. Methods A total of 60 college athletes were randomly divided into the active stimulation group (current intensity:1.5 mA, lasting for 15 min) and the sham stimulation group. Subjective questionnaires, behavior test, and functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) test were conducted before and after the experiment. Two-way ANOVA with repeated measures was used to compare the differences in mental fatigue indexes before and after the two experimental conditions. Results After 7 days of exercise training, there was a significant difference in the main effect of the time factor in all indexes of the two groups (p < 0.05). The scores of rated perceived exertion (RPE) scale, positive and negative affect schedule (PANAS), critical flicker frequency (CFF), and reaction time (RT), in the tPCS treatment group, were better than those in the sham stimulation group (p < 0.05). After 7 days of exercise training, all the subjects had different degrees of athlete's mental fatigue; the subjects in the active stimulation group have a good evaluation of the tPCS developed by the research group without adverse actions. Conclusion tPCS intervention can improve emotional state, reduce the subjective evaluation of fatigue, improve behavioral levels such as attention and reaction time and increase cerebral prefrontal blood flow and oxygen supply.

Abstract
Background Progression of freezing of gait (FOG), a common pathological gait in Parkinson’s disease (PD), has been shown to be an important risk factor for falls, loss of independent living ability, and reduced quality of life. However, previous evidence indicated poor efficacy of medicine and surgery in treating FOG in patients with PD. Music-based movement therapy (MMT), which entails listening to music while exercising, has been proposed as a treatment to improve patients’ motor function, emotions, and physiological activity. In recent years, MMT has been widely used to treat movement disorders in neurological diseases with promising results. Results from our earlier pilot study revealed that MMT could relieve FOG and improve the quality of life for patients with PD. Objective To explore the effect of MMT on FOG in patients with PD. Materials and methods This was a prospective, evaluator-blinded, randomized controlled study. A total of 81 participants were randomly divided into music-based movement therapy group (MMT, n = 27), exercise therapy group (ET, n = 27), and control group (n = 27). Participants in the MMT group were treated with MMT five times (1 h at a time) every week for 4 weeks. Subjects in the ET group were intervened in the same way as the MMT group, but without music. Routine rehabilitation treatment was performed on participants in all groups. The primary outcome was the change of FOG in patients with PD. Secondary evaluation indicators included FOG-Questionnaire (FOG-Q) and the comprehensive motor function. Results After 4 weeks of intervention, the double support time, the cadence, the max flexion of knee in stance, the max hip extension, the flexion moment of knee in stance, the comprehensive motor function (UPDRS Part III gait-related items total score, arising from chair, freezing of gait, postural stability, posture, MDS-UPDRS Part II gait-related items total score, getting out of bed/a car/deep chair, walking and balance, freezing), and the FOG-Q in the MMT group were lower than that in the control group and ET group (p < 0.05). The gait velocity, the max ankle dorsiflexion in stance, ankle range of motion (ROM) during push-off, ankle ROM over gait cycle, the knee ROM over gait cycle, and the max extensor moment in stance (ankle, knee) in the MMT group were higher than that in the control group and ET group (p < 0.05). However, no significant difference was reported between the control group and ET group (p > 0.05). The stride length and hip ROM over gait cycle in the MMT group were higher than that in the control group (p < 0.05), and the max knee extension in stance in the MMT group was lower than that in the control group (p < 0.05). Nevertheless, there was no significant difference between the ET group and MMT group (p > 0.05) or control group (p > 0.05). Conclusion MMT improved gait disorders in PD patients with FOG, thereby improving their comprehensive motor function.

Abstract
Parkinson's disease (PD) has become the second largest neurodegenerative disease after Alzheimer's disease, and its incidence is increasing year by year. Traditional dopamine replacement therapy and deep brain stimulation can only alleviate the clinical symptoms of patients with PD but cannot cure the disease. In recent years, stem cell therapy has been used to treat neurodegenerative diseases. Many studies have shown that stem cell transplantation has a therapeutic effect on PD. Here, we review recent studies indicating that exosomes derived from mesenchymal stem cells also have the potential to treat PD in animal models, but the exact mechanism remains unclear. This article reviews the mechanisms through which exosomes are involved in intercellular information exchange, promote neuroprotection and freely cross the blood-brain barrier in the treatment of PD. The increase in the incidence of PD and the decline in the quality of life of patients with advanced PD have placed a heavy burden on patients, families and society. Therefore, innovative therapies for PD are urgently needed. Herein, we discuss the mechanisms underlying the effects of exosomes in PD, to provide new insights into the treatment of PD. The main purpose of this article is to explore the therapeutic potential of exosomes derived from mesenchymal stem cells and future research directions for this degenerative disease.

Abstract
Objectives To comprehensively determine the effect of dance activities on the cognitive functions and its sub-domains of older adults with mild cognitive impairment (MCI). Methods We obtained data from PubMed, Web of Science, EBSCO, China national knowledge infrastructure, Wanfang data, and VIP databases from 2017/01/01 to 2022/03/01. We included trials of older adults with MCI that underwent dance activity intervention and fulfilled the inclusion criteria. Two researchers independently assessed the quality of the study using the Cochrane risk of the bias assessment tool. Meta-analysis was performed when data were available, with further subgroup analysis, using Review Manager 5.4, and sensitivity analysis was performed using Stata software 15.1. Results Search terms yielded 183 articles, of which 12 fulfilled the inclusion criteria. This included 7 high-quality studies and 5 medium-quality studies. A total of 820 older adults were analyzed. Results showed that dance activity had beneficial effects for global cognition [SMDMMSE = 0.65, 95% CIMMSE (0.20, 1.09), p MMSE = 0.004; SMDMoCA = 0.87, 95% CIMoCA (0.44, 1.29), p MoCA < 0.0001], memory [SMD = 0.61, 95% CI (0.35, 0.88), p < 0.00001], visuospatial function [SMD = -0.39, 95% CI (-0.60, -0.19), p = 0.0002], cognitive flexibility [SMD = -0.31, 95% CI (-0.52, -0.11), p = 0.003], attention [SMD = 0.34, 95% CI (0.07, 0.61), p = 0.01], and balance [SMD = 1.25, 95% CI (0.06, 2.44), p = 0.04]. Further subgroup analysis showed that open-skill dance activity (OSDA) was more effective in promoting global cognition in older adults with MCI than closed-skill dance activity (CSDA) because of the different stimulation provided by the two types of dance activities in the brain regions of the older adults (p = 0.0002). It could be speculated that dance activity improved cognitive function mainly by affecting the microstructure and function of the cingulate tract, hippocampus, cardiovascular function, and other brain areas of older adults with MCI. Conclusion Dance activities can significantly improve global cognition, memory, visuospatial function, cognitive flexibility, attention, and balance in older adults with MCI. However, more trials with rigorous study designs are necessary to provide more concrete evidence in the future.

Abstract
Dance is unique in that it is a sport and an art simultaneously. Beyond improving sensorimotor functions, dance training could benefit high-level emotional and cognitive functions. Duo dances also confer the possibility for dancers to develop the abilities to recognize, understand, and share the thoughts and feelings of their dance partners during the long-term dance training. To test this possibility, we collected high-resolution structural and resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) data from 43 expert-level ballroom dancers (a model of long-term exposure to duo dance training) and 40 age-matched and sex-matched nondancers, and measured their empathic ability using a self-report trait empathy scale. We found that ballroom dancers showed higher scores of empathic concern (EC) than controls. The EC scores were positively correlated with years with dance partners but negatively correlated with the number of dance partners for ballroom dancers. These behavioral results were supported by the structural and functional MRI data. Structurally, we observed that the gray matter volumes in the subgenual anterior cingulate cortex (ACC) and EC scores were positively correlated. Functionally, the connectivity between ACC and occipital gyrus was positively correlated with both EC scores and years with dance partners. In addition, the relationship between years with dance partners and EC scores was indirect-only mediated by the ACC-occipital gyrus functional connectivity. Therefore, our findings provided solid evidence for the close link between long-term ballroom dance training and empathy, which deepens our understanding of the neural mechanisms underlying this phenomenon.

Abstract
As an innovative exercise therapy, therapeutic climbing (TC) has attracted more attention than ever before in recent years. In this review of the related studies on TC, the authors explore its origin and development; summarize its therapeutic effect in treating depression, low back pain and other diseases; and further analyze its underlying mechanism. According to the literature, TC was primarily applied in the field of orthopedics and then was gradually used in neurology, psychiatry and psychology. It provides a new means for the treatment of depression, lower back pain, multiple sclerosis and other diseases. There are two potential mechanisms: physiological and psychological. In the future, exercise effects, adverse effects and exercise prescriptions of TC should be explored with large samples and high-quality randomized controlled trials.

Abstract
There has recently been increasing interest in postural stability aimed at gaining a better understanding of the human postural system. This system controls human balance in quiet standing and during locomotion. Parkinson’s disease (PD) is the most common degenerative movement disorder that affects human stability and causes falls and injuries. This paper proposes a novel methodology to differentiate between healthy individuals and those with PD through the empirical mode decomposition (EMD) method. EMD enables the breaking down of a complex signal into several elementary signals called intrinsic mode functions (IMFs). Three temporal parameters and three spectral parameters are extracted from each stabilometric signal as well as from its IMFs. Next, the best five features are selected using the feature selection method. The classification task is carried out using four known machine-learning methods, KNN, decision tree, Random Forest and SVM classifiers, over 10-fold cross validation. The used dataset consists of 28 healthy subjects (14 young adults and 14 old adults) and 32 PD patients (12 young adults and 20 old adults). The SVM method has a performance of 92% and the Dempster–Sahfer formalism method has an accuracy of 96.51%.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Dance can reduce motor symptoms in persons with Parkinson's disease (PD). However, the effect on psychosocial wellbeing, including self-esteem and quality of life is less clear. METHODS Forty-nine persons with PD (Hoehn and Yahr stage 1-4) participated in weekly dance classes for a consecutive period of 22 weeks, 36 participants completed the classes. Two baseline measurements (T1a and T1b) were performed during a 2-week control period prior to the dance classes. Post-measurements (T2) were performed immediately after 22 weeks of dance classes. Primary outcome was self-esteem as measured with the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Score. RESULTS Self-esteem scores were stable across the two baseline measurements and improved significantly after the dance classes (1.5 points improvement between T1b and T2, 95% CI 0.3, 2.7; p = 0.012). Additionally, quality of life as measured with the Parkinson's Disease Questionnaire 39 improved significantly (3.4 points reduction between T1b and T2, 95%CI - 5.7, - 1.2; p = 0.003) as did motor symptoms as measured with the Movement Disorders Society-Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale-part III (6.2 points reduction between T1b and T2, 95%CI - 10.1, - 2.4; p = 0.002). Balance confidence as measured with the Activities-Specific Balance Confidence Scale did not change. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS Dance classes seem to improve self-esteem, quality of life and motor symptoms in persons with PD. These effects should be investigated further in a randomized clinical trial. CLINICAL MESSAGE Dance classes may be a valuable complementary treatment option in people with PD to improve not only motor symptoms, but also self-esteem and quality of life.

Abstract
Previous research has shown the positive effects of music and dance-based interventions on the physical and psychosocial symptoms of Parkinson’s disease (PD). The aims of this study were: (1) to investigate how PD patients subjectively perceive the emotional, cognitive, and social benefits of a music- and dance-based intervention; (2) to apply an innovative methodology for an interview analysis combining findings from a linguistic text with an analytic approach and conducted with the software LIWC and from the content analysis performed by human coders. Extensive, open-ended interviews were conducted with 13 patients with PD who had participated in a dance and music program. The interviews were analyzed using both human coders and the computer-based approach. The results show that emotional and social aspects are considered the most frequent perceived benefits of the dance program. The data confirm the positive impact of dance- and music-based programs on promoting participants’ emotional and social well-being. A combined approach to text analysis appears to be a promising way to achieve more in-depth insights into patients’ subjective perceptions.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Parkinson's disease (PD) represents the second most common neurodegenerative disease. OBJECTIVE To evaluate the effects of dance therapy (DT) aimed at improving non-motor symptoms in PD. METHODS Studies were performed through PubMed, Web of Science, The Cochrane Library, Embase, and Science Direct from inception to October 27, 2021. The data were screened independently by two reviewers, and the quality of the papers was assessed using the Cochrane manual. The included studies were randomized controlled trials and quasi-randomized controlled trials, reporting random-effects standardized mean differences, and 95% confidence intervals as the effect size. I2 statistics were used to assess heterogeneity. The main outcomes included the Montreal Cognitive Assessment Scale (MOCA), Baker Depression Scale (BDI), Parkinson's Fatigue Scale (FPS-16), and Apathy Scale (AS). RevMan 5.3 software was integrated for meta-analysis. RESULTS Nine literatures were analyzed for the meta-analysis with a total of 307 patients. Random effects showed that DT significantly improved cognitive of PD (MD = 1.50, 95% CI [0.52, 2.48], P = 0.0003; I2 = 51%). However, this meta-analysis demonstrated that dance therapy had no significance for improving depression (MD = - 1.33, 95% CI [- 4.11, 1.45], P = 0.35; I2 = 79%), fatigue (MD = 0.26, 95% CI [- 0.31, 0.83], P = 0.37; I2 = 0%), and apathy (MD = 0.07, 95% CI [- 2.55, 2.69], P = 0.96; I2 = 50%). CONCLUSION The meta-analysis suggests that dance can improve cognitive function in PD.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The purpose of this study was to compare the effects of fundamental movement skills (FMS)-based dual-task training and dance training on spatio-temporal characteristics of gait performance under single- and dual-task walking conditions among older women with dementia. METHOD Thirty-eight elderly females with dementia were randomly assigned to one of two groups: (1) dual-task intervention (DTI, age: 73 ± 6.5 years) or (2) Iranian dance intervention (IDI, age: 72.52 ± 6.01 years). Both groups participated in a 10-week intervention program (3 sessions per week, each lasting 50 min). Gait performance parameters (gait speed, cadence, and stride length) and dual-task costs (DTC) were examined using a gait analysis system. The participants completed three walking trials under two conditions: single- and dual-task. The video data was analyzed using motion analysis software (Frame-DIAS II, DKH, DKH Inc., Tokyo, Japan). RESULTS The results showed that both groups significantly improved in terms of all gait variables, and DTC decreased (p < .001) from pre- to post-test for both conditions. However, the main effects for the group and the group-by-time interactions were not significantly different between the two groups (p > .05). CONCLUSION These findings showed that DTI and IDI effectively improved gait performance following a 10-week intervention for older women with dementia. Therefore, it is suggested that either training program could decrease DTC and increase gait speed, stride length, and cadence among older females with dementia.

Abstract
In a million years, under the pressure of natural selection, hominins have acquired the abilities for vocal learning, music, and language. Music is a relevant human activity, highly effective in enhancing sociality, is a universal experience common to all known human cultures, although it varies in rhythmic and melodic complexity. It has been part of human life since the beginning of our history, or almost, and it strengthens the mother-baby relation even within the mother's womb. Music engages multiple cognitive functions, and promotes attention, concentration, imagination, creativity, elicits memories and emotions, and stimulates imagination, and harmony of movement. It changes the chemistry of the brain, by inducing the release of neurotransmitters and hormones (dopamine, serotonin, and oxytocin) and activates the reward and prosocial systems. In addition, music is also used to develop new therapies necessary to alleviate severe illness, especially neurological disorders, and brain injuries.

Abstract
The author presents eight of his own group’s studies. They have been published from early 1980s until 2016. Each study will be placed in its scientific context and discussed in relation to possible progress in arts and health research. In these examples, statistical methods with longitudinal designs and mostly control groups have been used. Some of them are randomized controlled trials. Physiological and endocrinological variables have been assessed in some of these studies in efforts to increase our understanding of how music experiences and other kinds of arts experiences interact with bodily reactions of relevance for health development. Although some of the studies have suffered from low statistical power and other methodological weaknesses, they show that it is possible to do statistical evaluations of arts interventions aiming at improved health.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Impaired motor function is one of the early symptoms shown in patients with Parkinson Disease (PD). For this reason, rehabilitative interventions have been used for many years to improve motor and non-motor symptoms. Among them, the use of music therapy has shown benefits in helping to overcome some of the most common motor dysfunction. Addressing the challenge of providing access to this type of therapy, this document presents the collaborative design process to develop a remote training support tool for PD based on music therapy. METHODS A qualitative study with creative co-design methods was used in which different groups of healthcare professionals, patients, and relatives participated in six iterative sessions. Workshops were designed and structured to incrementally discover requirements and needs and validate the proposed prototype ideas. RESULTS The study provided key aspects that were used for the development and validation of the proposed prototypes for the remote music-based training support tool for PD. Up to 20 factors that had a positive and/or negative influence on patient access to training were detected. These factors were classified into three common themes: daily activities and independence, participation in treatment and barriers to daily treatment, and self-management and personalization of information and telecommunication technologies (ICT). CONCLUSIONS This paper shows the results of a collaborative design process aimed at identifying the different factors, relevant to patients with PD, to improve their access to remote ICT-based training therapy and their expectations regarding alternative therapies, such as music. The participatory design methods and the iterative model used helped overcome many of the traditionally barriers that this type of technological support solutions usually have, facilitating the future participation.
