Abstract
Salt stress detrimentally impacts plant growth, imperiling crop yield and food quality. Ameliorating plant resilience and productivity in saline environments is critical for global food security. Here, we report the positive effect of Arthrospira (Spirulina) on plant growth and salt tolerance in Arabidopsis and sweet sorghum. Arthrospira application greatly promotes seed germination and seedling growth in both species under salt stress conditions in a dosage-dependent manner. Application of 6 mg Arthrospira per plate significantly enhances K+/Na+ equilibrium and reactive oxygen species (ROS) scavenging in Arabidopsis, reducing salt-induced toxicity. The primary root length, survival rate, chlorophyll content, photosynthesis, plant height, biomass and yield were all improved in both species. Concurrently, Arthrospira demonstrated the synthesis of compatible solutes, such as trehalose (Tre) and glucosylglycerol (GG), contributing to heightened stress tolerance when co-cultivated with Arabidopsis on plates. Transcriptome analysis revealed dramatic up-/down- regulation of genes involved in phytohormone signal transduction, chlorophyll and photosynthesis metabolism, and phenylpropanoid metabolism in Arabidopsis. Furthermore, the application of Arthrospira exerted a positive influence on the rhizosphere bacteriome structure in sweet sorghum, crucial for nutrient cycling and soil health enhancement. Our findings uncovered the underlying mechanisms of algae-plants interaction in saline soil, proposing strategies to enhance crop productivity and soil quality, thereby addressing the urgent need for sustainable agriculture practices to mitigate salinity's repercussions amidst climate change challenges.

Abstract
Euphorbiaceae, also known as the spurge family, is a large group of flowering plants. Despite being tropical natives, they are now widespread. Due to its medicinal and commercial importance, this family of plants attracted a lot of attention in the scientific community. The distinctive characteristic of the family is production of milky latex, which is a rich source of several lectins, the proteins that bind carbohydrates. Although their function is unclear, they are believed to defend plants against damaging phytopathogenic microorganisms, insects, and predatory animals. Additionally, they serve as crucial metabolic regulators under a variety of stressors. Detection, separation, purification, and characterization of lectins from the Euphorbiaceae family - mostly from the latex of plants - began over 40 years ago. This effort produced over 35 original research papers that were published. However, no systematic review that compiles these published data has been presented yet. This review summarizes and describes several procedures and protocols employed for extraction and purification of lectins belonging to this family. Physicochemical properties and biological activities of the lectins, along with their medicinal and pharmacological properties, have also been analyzed. Additionally, using examples of ricin and ricin agglutinin, we have structurally analyzed characteristics of the lectin known as Ribosome Inactivating Protein Type II (RIP-Type II) that belongs to this family. We anticipate that this review article will offer a useful compendium of information on this important family of lectins, show the scientists involved in lectin research the gaps in our knowledge, and offer insights for future research.

Abstract
Biotic and abiotic stresses impose adverse effects on plant's development, growth, and production. For the past many years, researchers are trying to understand the stress induced responses in plants and decipher strategies to produce stress tolerant crops. It has been demonstrated that molecular networks encompassing an array of genes and functional proteins play a key role in generating responses to combat different stresses. Newly, there has been a resurgence of interest to explore the role of lectins in modulating various biological responses in plants. Lectins are naturally occurring proteins that form reversible linkages with their respective glycoconjugates. To date, several plant lectins have been recognized and functionally characterized. However, their involvement in stress tolerance is yet to be comprehensively analyzed in greater detail. The availability of biological resources, modern experimental tools, and assay systems has provided a fresh impetus for plant lectin research. Against this backdrop, the present review provides background information on plant lectins and recent knowledge on their crosstalks with other regulatory mechanisms, which play a remarkable role in plant stress amelioration. It also highlights their versatile role and suggests that adding more information to this under-explored area will usher in a new era of crop improvement.

Abstract
The date palm, Phoenix dactylifera, is a vital crop in nations in the Middle East and North Africa. The date palm was thought to have outstanding traditional medicinal value because it was abundant in phytochemicals with diverse chemical structures. The date palm's ability to withstand harsh environments could be partly attributed to a class of proteins known as lectins, which are carbohydrate-binding proteins that can bind sugar moieties reversibly and without changing their chemical structures. After scanning the genome of P. dactylifera (GCF 009389715.1), this in silico study discovered 196 possible lectin homologs from 11 different families, some specific to plants. At the same time, others could also be found in other kingdoms of life. Their domain architectures and functional amino acid residues were investigated, and they yielded a 40% true-lectin with known conserved carbohydrate-binding residues. Further, their probable subcellular localization, physiochemical and phylogenetic analyses were also performed. Scanning all putative lectin homologs against the anticancer peptide (ACP) dataset found in the AntiCP2.0 webpage identified 26 genes with protein kinase receptors (Lec-KRs) belonging to 5 lectin families, which are reported to have at least one ACP motif. Our study offers the first account of Phoenix-lectins and their organization that can be used for further structural and functional analysis and investigating their potential as anticancer proteins.

Abstract
Sorghum is emerging as a model crop for functional genetics and genomics of tropical grasses with abundant uses, including food, feed, and fuel, among others. It is currently the fifth most significant primary cereal crop. Crops are subjected to various biotic and abiotic stresses, which negatively impact on agricultural production. Developing high-yielding, disease-resistant, and climate-resilient cultivars can be achieved through marker-assisted breeding. Such selection has considerably reduced the time to market new crop varieties adapted to challenging conditions. In the recent years, extensive knowledge was gained about genetic markers. We are providing an overview of current advances in sorghum breeding initiatives, with a special focus on early breeders who may not be familiar with DNA markers. Advancements in molecular plant breeding, genetics, genomics selection, and genome editing have contributed to a thorough understanding of DNA markers, provided various proofs of the genetic variety accessible in crop plants, and have substantially enhanced plant breeding technologies. Marker-assisted selection has accelerated and precised the plant breeding process, empowering plant breeders all around the world.

Abstract
Lectins are carbohydrate-binding proteins and are involved in a multitude of biological functions. Lectins at the surface of plant cells often occur as lectin receptor-like kinases (LecRLK) anchored to the plasma membrane. These LecRLKs are part of the plant's pattern-recognition receptor (PRR) system enabling the plant to perceive threats and respond adequately. Furthermore, plant lectins also occur as secreted proteins, which are associated with stress signalling and defence. The aim of this short review is to provide a general perspective on plant lectins and their role at the cell surface.
