Abstract
BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) is a leading cause of Lower Respiratory Tract Infections (LRTIs), posing a serious threat to vulnerable populations. Although growing evidence highlights its significant impact on older adults, RSV surveillance and data collection remain largely focused on children, underestimating the burden in older and high-risk adults. This review aims to synthesize current evidence on the epidemiological and clinical impact of RSV in older adults in Europe, assess existing surveillance strategies, and identify gaps to guide targeted public health responses. METHODS A two-phase research strategy was adopted. First, a comprehensive review of studies published between 2015-2025 was conducted via PubMed, focusing on the RSV burden in high-risk and elderly populations in Europe. Second, a structured web screening was performed to assess the status of existing RSV surveillance systems, focusing on eight selected European countries. RESULTS The review reported RSV prevalence rates ranging from 1% to 64.7% among older adults, with a high prevalence of comorbidities that exacerbate disease severity. Hospitalization rates varied between 12.6-55.9%, while mortality ranged from 2.15% to 13%, reaching up to 36% in intensive care settings. Surveillance systems for adult RSV infections across Europe remain limited and fragmented, with only 37.5% (3/8) of analyzed countries having dedicated surveillance for adults. CONCLUSIONS RSV represents a substantial and underrecognized threat to older adults, with significant clinical and healthcare implications. Strengthening surveillance, standardizing data collection, and ensuring equitable access to newly available preventive measures are urgent priorities to reduce the disease burden, protect vulnerable populations, and support resilient health systems against future health challenges.

Abstract
By tracking infectious diseases through sewage, municipal-scale wastewater surveillance has provided early warnings of future COVID-19 hospitalisations, identified biases in diagnostic testing, and is rapidly expanding to a broader array of pathogens. Despite applications in the targeted delivery of local interventions, near-source wastewater surveillance has received less attention and we know little about the near-source time series dynamics of contrasting pathogens. To address this, we conducted wastewater surveillance at five sites for SARS-CoV-2 and two sites for norovirus GI, norovirus GII, influenza A virus, influenza B virus, and human respiratory syncytial virus (RSV A and RSV B). Sites were selected for contrasting functions: an office, charity centre, museum, university, and care home. The key findings are (1) near-source wastewater detections were linked to local events (staff sickness, enhanced cleaning, changing populations); (2) wastewater detections decreased in the order norovirus GII > norovirus GI > SARS-CoV-2 ≈ influenza A ≈ RSV A > influenza B ≈ RSV B; (3) correlation between near-source wastewater data and national surveillance data increases as a function of catchment size and viral prevalence (examples include the SARS-CoV-2 BA.4/BA.5 variant peak at a museum and wastewater tracking the winter norovirus season); (4) strong weekday periodicity in near-source wastewater SARS-CoV-2 detections, with the correlation against COVID-19 case numbers increasing when modelling variable lag times between faecal shedding onset and clinical diagnosis (R2 = 0.45 increases to 0.84-0.86); (5) a log-linear relationship between the frequency of wastewater SARS-CoV-2 detection and log(catchment size⋅viral prevalence) (R2 = 0.6914-0.9066). Finally, we propose two use cases. Firstly, for rare or high-risk pathogens, near-source wastewater sentinel systems provide early warning of outbreaks, achieving high frequency community coverage without behaviour change and at low cost versus diagnostic testing. Secondly, for endemic pathogens, near-source wastewater reveals long-term patterns and trends, the effectiveness of local policies, and community vulnerabilities.

Abstract
Background: Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is a common respiratory virus that can cause serious illness in infants and the elderly. Vaccines for RSV have recently been introduced and have been shown to reduce the severity of the disease. However, there has been limited examination of how viral dynamics differ between vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals. Methods: Here, we use data from the MVA-BN-RSV Phase II vaccine study to quantify the dynamical differences between vaccinated and unvaccinated patients challenged with RSV. We use an ordinary differential equation model of within host viral dynamics to fit viral load data. Results: We find statistically significant differences in viral clearance rate and basic reproduction number. We also find that vaccinated patients experience a higher response variance than the placebo group. Conclusions: While the differences in viral clearance and basic reproduction number are promising, the high variability in response to the vaccine could leave many vaccinated patients without adequate protection.

Abstract
Human Respiratory Syncytial Virus (hRSV) is a major cause of acute lower respiratory tract infections (ALRTI) in infants, the elderly, and immunocompromised individuals. The recent approval of recombinant protein-based hRSV vaccines represents significant progress in combating hRSV. However, these vaccines utilized optimized preF ectodomain attached with an exogenous trimeric motif, which may induce immunological complications. Our research addresses these concerns by employing modified "full-length" preF proteins, preF-TMCT, designed to mimic the natural F protein structure and avoid potential immunological complications. We characterized a group of preF constructs and identified two candidates that exhibited desirable expression levels, high antigenicity and good stability. Immunization of Balb/c mice confirmed the robust immunogenicity and effective in induction of cross-reactive neutralizing antibodies of these antigens, particularly the lead-construct BR40. This investigation aims to contribute new insights to hRSV vaccine development. The near-native structure of the "full-length" preF-TMCT antigen also makes it valuable for producing therapeutic monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) and other biopharmaceuticals against hRSV infection.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Data on the natural history of the community-acquired RSV in adult outpatients are limited. It is also unclear whether the existing influenza surveillance platforms based on influenza-like illness (ILI) case definitions are efficient for RSV. The two-season RESPIRA-50 study was established in 2023 to identify an optimal RSV case definition and to explore the natural history of RSV. Here, the first-season results are reported. METHODS The study was conducted in Genoa (Italy) during the 2023/2024 RSV season. Twenty-four general practitioners were randomized 1:1 to enroll adults aged ≥ 50 years seeking care for acute respiratory infection (ARI) or ILI, respectively. Both syndromes were defined according to the European criteria. All subjects were tested by real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) for RSV and other pathogens. RSV-positive adults were followed for up to 30 days. RESULTS Of 517 subjects included, 7.0 % [95 % confidence interval (CI): 4.9-9.5 %)] tested positive for RSV. RSV prevalence in the ARI group (8.0 %; 95 % CI: 5.0-12.1 %) was higher than in the ILI group (6.0 %; 95 % CI: 3.5-9.5 %) with an odds ratio of 1.36 (95 % CI: 0.69-2.70). Conversely, positivity for influenza (10.4 % vs 12.4 %) and SARS-CoV-2 (12.4 % vs 16.9 %) were lower in the ARI group and the corresponding ORs were 0.82 (95 % CI: 0.48-1.42) and 0.70 (95 % CI: 0.43-1.15), respectively. The mean duration of an RSV episode was 18.8 ± 8.0 days and two thirds of individuals were prescribed antibiotics. A total of 33.3 % (95 % CI: 18.6-51.0 %) of RSV-positive individuals developed complications, of which bronchitis (13.9 %) and pneumonia (8.3 %) were the most frequent. CONCLUSIONS Compared with ARI, ILI-based surveillance may underestimate the burden of RSV in community-dwelling adults aged ≥ 50 years. A high proportion of RSV-positive adult outpatients develops complications, which lead to substantial resource consumption.

Abstract
The exchange of knowledge and best practices in adult immunization are essential to improve vaccination strategies across the European region. Italy has made groundbreaking progress in the field, being one of the first countries to propose a life-course vaccination schedule, broadening the traditional focus on childhood immunization to include adults. All vaccines included in Italy's vaccination schedule are free of charge. Moreover, the country's National Immunization Plan sets clear coverage targets, immunization priorities, and actions to reduce disparities. However, the fragmentation of its National Health System following the constitutional reform of 2001 has led to an increased complexity and regional inequalities regarding immunization. Other challenges the country faces include growing vaccine hesitancy, data gaps and underserved populations. This review describes Italy's adult immunization system, from policy to implementation. The successes, challenges and lessons learned were shared during the first Adult Immunization Board country meeting in Italy, where local experts, healthcare providers, public health representatives, and policymakers engaged in collaborative discussions and shared insights through case studies and presentations (December 2023). These insights are reviewed and discussed in this manuscript.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION SARS-CoV-2, seasonal influenza, and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) are major causes of acute respiratory infections in all age groups and responsible for an enormous socio-economic burden. The recently coined term 'tripledemic' describes co-circulation of these three viruses, a novel epidemiological paradigm that poses profound public health implications. AREAS COVERED Real-time reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) is now considered the reference method for the diagnosis of SARS-CoV-2, influenza, and RSV infections. Syndromic-based multiplex RT-PCR panels that simultaneously detect several respiratory viruses have become increasingly common. This review explores available molecular diagnostics (MDx) platforms for the diagnosis of SARS-CoV-2, influenza, and RSV in the same biological sample. Within some limitations of the published validation and diagnostic accuracy studies, both laboratory-based and point-of-care multiplex panels proved highly performant in identifying SARS-CoV-2, influenza A, influenza B, and RSV. Improved operational efficiency and faster turnaround times make these assays potentially cost-effective or even cost-saving. EXPERT OPINION The adoption of multiplex MDx assays for the contemporary detection of SARS-CoV-2, influenza, RSV, and other respiratory pathogens will likely increase in the next few years. To maximize the clinical usefulness and cost-effectiveness of these assays, locally issued guidelines and protocols on their implementation should be adopted.

Abstract
An increasing base of evidence suggests that respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) infections may be associated with neurological complications. In accord with the PRISMA statement, we performed a systematic review and meta-analysis on the occurrence of encephalitis and encephalopathy associated with documented RSV infections. PubMed, Embase, and Scopus databases were searched for eligible observational studies published up to 10 April 2024. Raw data included the occurrence of RSV infections among cases of encephalitis and/or encephalopathy and cases of encephalitis and/or encephalopathy among series of RSV infections. Data were pooled in a random effects model. Case reports were also collected, and their data pooled as a cumulative series. Heterogeneity was assessed using the I2 measure, while reporting bias was assessed by means of funnel plots and regression analysis. A total of 15 studies for a total of 7719 RSV infections and 1631 cases of encephalitis were analyzed. Moreover, 27 case reports and case series were retrieved, for a total of 84 individual cases of encephalitis/encephalopathy occurring during a documented RSV infection. A pooled prevalence of 2.20 cases of encephalitis/encephalopathy per 100 RSV cases (I2 = 99%) was calculated, while a prevalence of RSV infections among cases of encephalitis/encephalopathy was estimated to 3.53 per 100 cases for studies on respiratory specimens (I2 = 48%) and 0.37 per cases on central nervous system (CNS) specimens (I2 = 0%). Detection of RSV within the CNS was relatively rare (17.86% of pooled case reports), being associated with male gender (adjusted odds ratio [aOR] 5.021, 95% confidence interval [95%CI] 1.104 to 22.831) and recovery with long-term sequelae (aOR 5.699, 95%CI 1.152; 28.183). Case fatality ratio was estimated to be 0.43 per 100 cases on observational studies and 10.71% in case reports, a difference likely due to publication bias. In summary, RSV represented a not frequent but notable cause of encephalitis/encephalopathy in adults and children. The paucity of available studies not only recommends a cautious appraisal of our results but stresses the clinical significance of future studies on incident cases of encephalitis and/or encephalopathy.

Abstract
The human respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is considered one of the most common viruses that infect children globally. The virus is known to have extensive gene sequence variability within and between RSV groups A and B globally; however, there is no information on the whole-genome characterization and diversity of RSV in Kuwait. Therefore, this study aimed to sequence the entire genome of RSV strains isolated from patients with acute respiratory tract infection (ARTI) in Kuwait. Therefore, this study aimed to sequence the entire genome of RSV strains isolated from patients with ARTI in Kuwait. Between January 2020 and September 2022, 7,093 respiratory samples were collected from hospitalized infants, children, and adults and were analyzed for respiratory viruses by multiplex real-time PCR. Whole-genome sequencing using the Oxford Nanopore sequencing technology was performed on 84 RSV-positive samples. The results revealed a higher prevalence of group A (76%) than group B (24%) RSV isolates. Phylogenetic analysis showed that RSV-A strains clustered with the GA2.3.5 sub-genotype and RSV-B strains clustered with the GB5.0.5a sub-genotype; however, forming new lineages of RSV-A and RSV-B circulated in Kuwait during this period. Genetic variability was higher among the group A viruses than group B viruses, and the rate of synonymous and missense mutations was high in genes other than the G protein-coding gene. We also detected several known and unique molecular markers in different protein-coding genes. This is the first study in Kuwait to characterize the whole genomes of RSV A and B to identify the circulating genotypes, comprehend the genetic diversity and the evolution of the virus, and identify important genetic markers associated with specific genotypes.IMPORTANCEWhole-genome sequencing of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) strains in Kuwait using MinION Nanopore technology was used to characterize and analyze the genotypes and sub-genotypes of the RSV circulating among patients with acute respiratory tract infections in Kuwait. This study also identified known and unknown gene mutations and imported genetic markers associated with specific genotypes. These results will assist in establishing a framework for RSV classification and allow for a better consideration of the mechanisms leading to the generation of diversity of RSV. In addition, these data will allow a comparison of vaccine viruses with those in Kuwait, providing useful insights into future vaccine and therapy strategies for RSV in Kuwait.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The adjuvanted RSV prefusion F protein-based vaccine (RSVPreF3 OA) was efficacious against RSV-related lower respiratory tract disease (RSV-LRTD) in ≥60-years-olds over 1 RSV season. We evaluated efficacy and safety of 1 RSVPreF3 OA dose and of 2 RSVPreF3 OA doses given 1 year apart against RSV-LRTD over 2 RSV seasons post-dose 1. METHODS In this phase 3, blinded trial, ≥60-year-olds were randomized (1:1) to receive RSVPreF3 OA or placebo pre-season 1. RSVPreF3 OA recipients were re-randomized (1:1) to receive a second RSVPreF3 OA dose (RSV_revaccination group) or placebo (RSV_1dose group) pre-season 2; participants who received placebo pre-season 1 received placebo pre-season 2 (placebo group). Efficacy of both vaccine regimens against RSV-LRTD was evaluated over 2 seasons combined (confirmatory secondary objective, success criterion: lower limits of 2-sided CIs around efficacy estimates >20%). RESULTS The efficacy analysis comprised 24 967 participants (RSV_1dose: 6227; RSV_revaccination: 6242; placebo: 12 498). Median efficacy follow-up was 17.8 months. Efficacy over 2 seasons of 1 RSVPreF3 OA dose was 67.2% (97.5% CI: 48.2-80.0%) against RSV-LRTD and 78.8% (95% CI: 52.6-92.0%) against severe RSV-LRTD. Efficacy over 2 seasons of a first dose followed by revaccination was 67.1% (97.5% CI: 48.1-80.0%) against RSV-LRTD and 78.8% (95% CI: 52.5-92.0%) against severe RSV-LRTD. Reactogenicity/safety of the revaccination dose were similar to dose 1. CONCLUSIONS One RSVPreF3 OA dose was efficacious against RSV-LRTD over 2 RSV seasons in ≥60-year-olds. Revaccination 1 year post-dose 1 was well tolerated but did not seem to provide additional efficacy benefit in the overall study population. Abstract
Following an interseasonal rise in mainly pediatric respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) cases in Germany in 2021, an exceptionally high number of adult cases was observed in the subsequent respiratory season of 2022/2023. The aim of this study was to compare the clinical presentation of RSV infections in the pre- and post-SARS-CoV-2 pandemic periods. Additionally, the local epidemiology of the RSV fusion protein was analyzed at a molecular genetic and amino acid level. RSV detections in adults peaked in calendar week 1 of 2023, 8 weeks earlier than the earliest peak observed in the three pre-pandemic seasons. Although the median age of the adult patients was not different (66.5 vs. 65 years), subtle differences between both periods regarding comorbidities and the clinical presentation of RSV cases were noted. High rates of comorbidities prevailed; however, significantly lower numbers of patients with a history of lung transplantation (p = 0.009), chronic kidney disease (p = 0.013), and immunosuppression (p = 0.038) were observed in the 2022/2023 season. In contrast, significantly more lower respiratory tract infections (p < 0.001), in particular in the form of pneumonia (p = 0.015) and exacerbations of obstructive lung diseases (p = 0.008), were detected. An ICU admission was noted for 23.7% of all patients throughout the study period. Sequence analysis of the fusion protein gene revealed a close phylogenetic relatedness, regardless of the season of origin. However, especially for RSV-B, an accumulation of amino acid point substitutions was noted, including in antigenic site Ø. The SARS-CoV-2 pandemic had a tremendous impact on the seasonality of RSV, and the introduction of new vaccination and immunization strategies against RSV warrants further epidemiologic studies of this important pathogen.

Epidemiological and phylogenetic assessment of human respiratory syncytial virus among pediatric patients presenting acute respiratory infections in Shiraz, Iran during 2015-2016. Abstract
Background and Objectives The pediatric population worldwide bears a significant morbidity and death burden due to acute respiratory infections (ARIs). Human Orthopneumovirus, sometimes referred to as the Human Respiratory Syncytial Virus (HRSV), is one of the main causes of ARIs in infants. The main goal of this study was to identify the genetic diversity of HRSV strains that were circulating in the Iranian population at a certain time of year. Materials and Methods Two hundred youngsters less than 12 years old with acute respiratory infections had samples taken from their throat and pharynx secretions. Then, external and hemi-nested PCR were employed, using specific primers targeting the G gene region to detect HRSV. Subsequently, nine randomly selected positive samples were subjected to sequencing. The results were then compared with reference strains cataloged in GeneBank, and phylogenetic tree was constructed using Chromes and MEGA7. Results Out of 200 samples, 34 were identified as containing HRSV. Subgroup A was predominant, accounting for 61.76% of cases, followed by subgroup BA (35.29%) and subgroup B (2.94%). Phylogenetic analysis revealed five samples associated with subtype B and four with genotype A. Genomic analysis showed three samples under the GA2 subgroup and one under GA1 for subtype A, and four samples in subgroup BA and one in GB2 for subtype B. Conclusion In this study, subgroup A strains, particularly genotype GA2, exhibited a higher prevalence compared to subgroup B strains during the specific period under investigation, shedding light on the genetic landscape of HRSV in this region.

Abstract
Objectives Annual outbreaks of human respiratory syncytial virus (HRSV) are caused by newly introduced and locally persistent strains. During the COVID-19 pandemic, global and local circulation of HRSV significantly decreased. This study was conducted to characterize HRSV in 2018-2022 and to analyze the impact of COVID-19 on the evolution of HRSV. Design/methods Combined oropharyngeal and nasopharyngeal swabs were collected from children hospitalized with severe acute respiratory infection at two hospitals in Zambia. The second hypervariable region of the attachment gene G was targeted for phylogenetic analysis. Results Of 3113 specimens, 504 (16.2%) were positive for HRSV, of which 131 (26.0%) and 66 (13.1%) were identified as HRSVA and HRSVB, respectively. In early 2021, an increase in HRSV was detected, caused by multiple distinct clades of HRSVA and HRSVB. Some were newly introduced, whereas others resulted from local persistence. Conclusions This study provides insights into the evolution of HRSV, driven by global and local circulation. The COVID-19 pandemic had a temporal impact on the evolution pattern of HRSV. Understanding the evolution of HRSV is vital for developing strategies for its control.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is a common respiratory pathogen not only in children, but also in adults. In view of a recent authorization of adult RSV vaccines in Italy, our research question was to quantify the epidemiology and burden of RSV in Italian adults. METHODS Observational studies on the epidemiology and clinical burden of laboratory-confirmed or record-coded RSV infection in Italian adults of any age were eligible. Studies with no separate data for Italian adults, modeling and other secondary publications were excluded. A literature search was performed in MEDLINE, Biological Abstracts, Global Health, Scopus and Web of Science on 22 November 2023. Critical appraisal was performed by means of a Joanna Briggs Institute checklist. Random-effects (RE) meta-analysis was performed to obtain pooled estimates and the observed heterogeneity was investigated by subgroup and meta-regression analyses. The protocol was prospectively registered (doi.org/10.17504/protocols.io.5qpvo32odv4o/v1). RESULTS Thirty-five studies were identified, most of which had at least one possible quality concern. RSV seasonal attack rates ranged from 0.8 ‰ in community-dwelling older adults to 10.9% in hematological outpatients. In the RE model, 4.5% (95% CI: 3.2-5.9%) of respiratory samples tested positive for RSV. This positivity prevalence was higher in older adults (4.4%) than in working-age adults (3.5%) and in outpatient (4.9%) than inpatient (2.9%) settings. According to the meta-regression, study location and sample size were also significant predictors of RSV detection frequency. The pooled estimate of in-hospital mortality was as high as 7.2% (95% CI: 4.7-10.3%). Data on other indicators of the diseases burden, such as complication and hospitalization rates, were unavailable. CONCLUSION RSV poses a measurable burden on Italian adults, especially those of older age and with some co-morbidities. However, several data on the natural history of RSV disease are missing and should be established by future large-scale studies.

Abstract
As respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) vaccine distribution gains traction in Europe and Italy, healthcare workers (HCWs) can strategize about vaccine promotion to increase uptake among patients at risk of RSV consequences, such cardiac patients. This cross-sectional survey investigated the knowledge about and attitude towards RSV and RSV vaccines, and the intention to recommend vaccination within a cardiological hospital in Italy. To explore factors associated with the outcomes of interest, multivariate logistic regression analyses were conducted. Of 197 invited HCWs, 78.2% returned the survey. The knowledge about market authorisation for new RSV vaccines for older adults (present in 46.9% of respondents) was significantly associated with the HCWs' age, education, and previous update on vaccinations. HCWs with a higher educational level and those with a positive attitude towards RSV vaccines safety reported a higher attitude towards the importance of vaccinating people at risk. The willingness of recommending RSV vaccination to patients (70.5% of respondents) was more likely in HCWs who were knowledgeable about market authorisation for RSV vaccines and in physicians. This tempestive research sheds light on current factors influencing the strategies of cardiac HCWs regarding RSV vaccination. The results suggest the need for training events on the protective role of RSV vaccination in cardiac patients.

Abstract
Background and Aims Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is a leading cause of acute respiratory infection in infants and young children. Given the altered circulation patterns of respiratory viruses during the coronavirus disease pandemic-2019 (COVID-19), the study aimed to evaluate epidemiology and clinical features of RSV infections in hospitalized children during the COVID-19 pandemic in Gorgan, northeastern Iran. Molecular epidemiology studies on respiratory viral infections are necessary to monitor circulating viruses, disease severity, and clinical symptoms, in addition to early warning of new outbreaks. Methods Overall, 411 respiratory swab samples from hospitalized children from October 2021 to March 2022 were collected at Taleghani Children's Hospital, Gorgan, Iran. The incidence of RSV, as well as the circulating subgroups and genotypes, were investigated and confirmed using PCR methods. Additionally, all samples tested for severe acute respiratory syndrome-associated coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) and influenza, and demographic and clinical data were analyzed using SPSS software. Results The share of RSV, SARS-CoV-2, and influenza among hospitalized children with acute lower respiratory infections (ALRI) were 27%, 16.5%, and 4.1%, respectively. The RSV subgroup A (genotype ON1) was dominant over subgroup B (genotype BA9), with more severe clinical symptoms. Compared with the prepandemic era there were high numbers of hospitalized SARS-CoV-2 positive children and low numbers of other respiratory viruses. Despite this, the prevalence of ALRI-related RSV-disease among hospitalized children in our specialized pediatric center was higher than COVID-19 disease in the same cohort. Conclusions Studying the epidemiology of respiratory viruses and determining the circulating strains can contribute to effective infection control and treatment strategies.

Abstract
PURPOSE OF REVIEW Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) remains a leading cause of mortality and morbidity worldwide. RSV seasonality was disrupted by COVID-19-associated nonpharmaceutical interventions (NPIs). We review RSV seasonality, molecular epidemiology, clinical manifestations, and community awareness to inform future prevention strategies. RECENT FINDINGS An initial reduction of RSV disease observed with NPIs, and subsequent global resurgence was associated with a collapse in genetic diversity. A lack of immunity is suggested to have contributed to the resurgence of RSV cases experienced post COVID-19. The median age of children admitted with RSV increased during the resurgence, likely secondary to the expanded cohort of RSV-immune naive children. The pandemic also played a role in increased community awareness, which can be utilized as part of a coordinated public health effort to introduce prevention strategies. Further education on signs and symptoms of RSV is still required. SUMMARY mAbs and maternal vaccines targeting RSV have the potential to reduce paediatric morbidity, however this new era of RSV prevention will require ongoing research to facilitate community awareness and engagement, and better respiratory surveillance. Tackling the global burden of RSV will require a coordinated effort and measures to ensure access and affordability of new prevention strategies.
