Abstract
PURPOSE This review aims to ascertain the effects of mHealth on negative emotions among parents of preterm infants and analyze the current state of mHealth services in this context. BACKGROUND Caring for preterm infants often engenders negative emotions in parents, such as anxiety, depression, and stress. Mobile Health (mHealth) services offer potential benefits for preterm infant care. However, there are several uncertainties regarding the impact of mHealth services on parental emotions. METHODS AND STUDY DESIGN Randomized controlled trial (RCT) and quasi-RCT were published in English and Chinese until 2023 and are available in the electronic databases of MEDLINE, EMBASE, the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, Web of Science, Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINHAHL), Chinese Biomedical Literature Database, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, Wanfang Database, and China Science and Technology Journal Database were reviewed. Review Manager 5.4 was employed for random-effects meta-analysis. RESULTS Seven RCTs and 6 quasi-RCTs with high risks were included, most of them were based on small sample size and single-centered. Meta-analysis demonstrated that mHealth interventions mitigated negative emotions, including anxiety (standard mean difference [SMD] = -1.07; 95% confidence interval [CI], -1.47 to -0.66; P< 0.0001), depression (SMD = -1.94; 95% CI, -3.01 to -0.86; P< 0.0001), and stress (SMD = -1.24; 95% CI, -2.07 to -0.40; P< 0.0001), among parents of preterm infants. CONCLUSIONS It is recommended to develop independent specialized software for mHealth, enhance theoretical underpinnings, and standardize practical protocols. Incorporating early recognition and screening of negative emotions within mHealth could offer comprehensive support for the mental health of parents with preterm infants. IMPLICATIONS The mHealth-based interventions are needed to focus on the parents' emotional needs and minimize the impacts associated with mental stress.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The objective of this mixed methods review was to examine the effectiveness and family experiences of interventions promoting partnerships between families and the multidisciplinary health care team in pediatric and neonatal intensive care units. INTRODUCTION Hospitalization of infants and children in neonatal intensive care units and pediatric intensive care units has a significant effect on their families, including increased stress, anxiety, and depression. Available evidence syntheses focused on specific family-centered care, but not on partnership, which is another aspect that may improve families' outcomes and experiences. INCLUSION CRITERIA This review considered studies that focused on effectiveness or family experiences of interventions by health professionals in partnership with families of infants or children hospitalized in an intensive care unit. For the quantitative component of the review, the type of intervention was a partnership between the health care team and the family, and focused on outcomes of stress, anxiety, depression, quality of life, attachment, or satisfaction with family-centered care. For the qualitative component, the phenomenon of interest was family experiences of interventions that included collaboration and partnering with the health care team in the pediatric or neonatal intensive care unit. Quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods studies, published from 2000 to August 2022 in English or French, were eligible for inclusion. METHODS The JBI methodology for convergent segregated mixed methods systematic reviews was followed using the standardized JBI critical appraisal and data extraction tools. Ten databases were searched in December 2019 and again in August 2022. Study selection, critical appraisal, and data extraction were performed by 2 reviewers independently. Findings of quantitative studies were statistically pooled through meta-analysis and those that could not be pooled were reported narratively. Qualitative studies were pooled through meta-synthesis. RESULTS This review included 6 qualitative and 42 quantitative studies. The methodological quality varied, and all studies were included regardless of methodological quality. Meta-analyses showed improvements in anxiety, satisfaction with family-centered care, and stress, yet no conclusive effects in attachment and depression. These results should be interpreted with caution due to high heterogeneity. Qualitative analysis resulted in 2 synthesized findings: "Interventions that incorporate partnerships between families and the health care team can improve the family's experience and capacity to care for the child" and "Having a child in intensive care can be an experience of significant impact for families." Integration of quantitative and qualitative evidence revealed some congruence between findings; however, the paucity of qualitative evidence minimized the depth of this integration. CONCLUSIONS Partnership interventions can have a positive impact on parents of children in intensive care units, with improvements reported in stress, anxiety, and satisfaction with family-centered care. Abstract
BACKGROUND Preterm birth is associated with adverse mental health outcomes, including internalizing problems, social difficulties and inattention. Interventions are needed beyond infancy and toddlerhood to support children and their families. We examined the feasibility and acceptability of the I-InTERACT Preterm pilot study, an online parenting intervention for preterm children ages 3-8. METHOD Families participated in a weekly intervention comprised of seven sessions with online modules followed by videoconference coaching sessions with a therapist. Following completion of the study, caregivers completed a survey to assess their satisfaction and were asked to participate in a voluntary semi-structured interview to provide feedback. We anticipated greater than a 50% participation rate (enrollment feasibility) and 75% completion rate (adherence feasibility). We also hypothesized that at least 80% of participants would be satisfied with the intervention (acceptability). RESULTS Nineteen of 32 families (59%) enrolled in the study, suggesting adequate enrollment feasibility. Feasibility of programme completion (adherence) was lower than anticipated (59%). Regarding satisfaction, all caregivers agreed that the programme's information was relevant to them and their family. Nearly all participants (92%) indicated that they had a better understanding of the effects of preterm birth on behaviour, that they enjoyed the programme, that it met their expectations and that they recommend the programme to others. In qualitative interviews, caregivers expressed satisfaction with the content, skills they learned, and receiving direct coaching. Caregivers suggested improvements to increase intervention feasibility and skill implementation, including offering biweekly sessions and more hands-on coaching. CONCLUSION Our largely satisfactory acceptability rates suggest the value of and need for a parenting intervention for children born preterm past the initial period of early development. Future directions include modifying the intervention in response to caregiver feedback to improve recruitment, engagement and adherence.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Parenting of preterm infants presents unique challenges, particularly during their transition from hospital to home. Early discharge programs can assist parents during this critical period. However, the feasibility of delivering a family-focused online discharge program remains understudied. OBJECTIVES This study was conducted to investigate the impact of a family-focused online parenting support intervention on parents' sense of competence, depression, caregiving, social support, family functioning, and the weight and length of preterm infants. METHODS We conducted a single-blind, two-arm randomized controlled trial with a repeated-measures design. Participants were recruited from a specialized tertiary hospital in China between May and December 2022. Forty-five families were randomly assigned to the intervention group and 44 to the control group. The intervention included three components: (1) two one-hour group sessions and three 30-minute individual sessions of online parenting support; (2) two follow-up telephone calls (15-30 min each) post-discharge; and (3) access to online parenting resources. Primary outcomes included parenting sense of competence, parental care ability, and preterm infants' weight and length. Secondary outcomes included depression, social support, and family functioning. Measurements were taken at baseline, preterm infant discharge, one month post-discharge, and three months post-discharge. A generalized estimating equation model was employed based on the intention-to-treat principle for outcome comparison. RESULTS Parents in the intervention group showed significant improvements in parenting sense of competence (P < 0.001), parental care ability (P < 0.001), depression (P < 0.001), and social support (P = 0.002). However, no statistically significant differences were observed in preterm infants' weight and length, or in family functioning (P > 0.05). CONCLUSIONS Although the intervention did not affect preterm infants' outcomes, the positive enhancements in parenting sense of competence, care ability, depression, and social support indicate that online family-focused parenting support can effectively prepare parents for hospital discharge and the early transition period.

Abstract
The internet can be used as an alternative method in infant care education for mothers of preterm infants. This study was conducted to examine the effect of the Web-based infant care training program given to mothers of preterm infants on the self-confidence levels of mothers. This nonrandomized controlled study with a posttest design was conducted in Ministry of Health training and research hospital and university hospital. The study group comprised 84 mothers and their infants (intervention group: N = 42; control group: N = 42). Mothers with preterm infants in the intervention group participated in the Web-based program. The self-confidence of the mothers was evaluated before and after the training. The mothers' Pharis self-confidence scale mean scores were higher than the control group, but there was no significant difference. Web-based education program can be an alternative method that can be used in the education of mothers with preterm infants.

Abstract
PURPOSE The purpose of this study was to identify the gaps in research related to developmentally supportive care in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). The ultimate goal was to explore directions of further research on developmentally supportive care for premature patients. METHODS The Arksey and O'Malley scoping review method was used. Articles on developmentally supportive care for preterm infants in the NICU, written in English or Korean, were identified through electronic search engines. A total of 279 papers were identified in the initial search, of which 22 full-text papers were included in this review. RESULTS Several nursing studies have been published in the past 5 years. The important elements of developmentally supportive care were family-centered care and management of the NICU environment. The primary developmentally supportive care interventions were training programs to promote the care competency of NICU nurses. CONCLUSION It is necessary to actively develop comprehensive developmental support interventions that consider the various elements of developmentally supportive care for preterm infants. Additional studies should be done to develop programs that provide direct intervention for premature infant and their families.

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to describe the trends of research on follow-up care after neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) graduation for children born preterm. This scoping review was conducted according to Arksey and O'Malley's guidelines. Reviewed studies were searched in PubMed, CHINAHL, and Web of Science. Fifteen studies were analyzed according to general characteristics, elements of follow-up care after NICU graduation, and characteristics of follow-up care intervention after NICU graduation. Most research was conducted in the medical field (60%), with experimental studies (40%) being the majority, and a few studies focused on families (3%) and parents (3%). The major follow-up care after NICU graduation elements were growth/developmental monitoring and support, continuity of care, parent- and family-centered elements, and a multidisciplinary approach. The intervention methods included home visits, phone calls, video calls, and applications. In addition, the intervention period ranged from two weeks to three years. It is suggested that multidisciplinary research with interactive media for a various age of children over longer periods for further study.

Abstract
Background In the NICU, interventions intended to enhance maternal sensitivity are indicated in order to optimize preterm infant development and long-term mother-infant attachment. A novel nursing intervention was developed following a theory-oriented methodology and is based upon the guided participation theory for mothers to participate in their preterm infant's therapeutic POSITioning and care (GP_Posit). The primary objective of this study is to evaluate the feasibility and acceptability of (i) the study design; and (ii) the experimental GP_Posit nursing intervention during NICU hospitalization. The secondary objective is to estimate the preliminary effects of GP_Posit on maternal and preterm infant outcomes. Methods A pilot parallel-group randomized clinical trial (RCT) was designed where mother-preterm infant dyads are being recruited and randomized to a control group (usual care) or experimental group (GP_Posit intervention). Data collection includes feasibility and acceptability data as well as preliminary effects on maternal sensitivity and infant neurodevelopment. Ethical approval from the University Hospital ethical board was obtained in January 2018 (2017-1540). Discussion Data collection for this pilot study is expected to end in 2020. Results of this pilot study will inform about the feasibility and acceptability of the study design and GP_Posit intervention, a nursing intervention having the potential to favor maternal sensitivity and infant neurodevelopment in the NICU and guide the elaboration of a large-scale RCT. Abstract
Many challenges have been noted in the implementation of developmentally-supportive care principles in neonatal intensive care units, despite evidence that adhering to such care principles achieves positive results for the neonate. The aim of this study was to explore and describe compliance in adhering to developmentally-supportive care principles implemented in one neonatal intensive care unit in South Africa. An exploratory design was used in this qualitative study with purposive sampling to select eligible neonatal intensive care registered nurses (n = 14) as participants. Participants all worked in a 10 bed neonatal intensive care unit at a large tertiary care public hospital. Six audio-recorded interviews were conducted, with recordings subsequently transcribed and analyzed. Three main themes were identified: value of developmentally-supportive care, nature of developmentally-supportive care, and barriers to developmentally-supportive care. One of the main themes had subthemes, which substantiated the findings, and included parent involvement, nurse engagement, and holistic care. Study outcomes offer insight into the development or revision of policies and practices, which are crucial when implementing developmentally-supportive care, particularly in resource-poor settings where challenges are magnified.

Abstract
Background Transitioning into parenthood can be stressful for new parents, especially with the lack of continuity of care from health care professionals during the postpartum period. Short hospital stays limit the availability of support and time parents need to be well equipped with parenting and infant care skills. Poor parental adjustment may, in turn, lead to negative parental outcomes and adversely affect the child’s development. For the family’s future well-being, and to facilitate a smoother transition into parenthood, there is a need for easily accessible, technology-based educational programs to support parents during the crucial perinatal period. Objective This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of a technology-based supportive educational parenting program (SEPP) on parenting outcomes during the perinatal period in couples. Methods A randomized, single-blinded, parallel-armed, controlled trial was conducted. The study recruited 236 parents (118 couples) from an antenatal clinic of a tertiary hospital in Singapore. Eligible parents were randomly assigned to the intervention group (n=118) or the control group (n=118). The SEPP is based on Bandura’s self-efficacy theory and Bowlby’s theory of attachment. Components of the intervention include 2 telephone-based educational sessions (1 antenatal and 1 immediately postnatal) and a mobile health app follow-up for 1 month. The control group only received routine perinatal care provided by the hospital. Outcome measures including parenting self-efficacy (PSE), parental bonding, perceived social support, parenting satisfaction, postnatal depression (PND), and anxiety were measured using reliable and valid instruments. Data were collected over 6 months at 4 time points: during pregnancy (third trimester), 2 days postpartum, 1 month postpartum, and 3 months postpartum. Outcomes were standardized using baseline means and SDs. Linear mixed models were used to compare the groups for postpartum changes in the outcome variables. Results The intervention group showed significantly better outcome scores than the control group from baseline to 3 months postpartum for PSE (mean difference, MD, 0.37; 95% CI 0.06 to 0.68; P=.02), parental bonding (MD −1.32; 95% CI −1.89 to −0.75; P<.001), self-perceived social support (MD 0.69; 95% CI 0.18 to 1.19; P=.01), parenting satisfaction (MD 1.40; 95% CI 0.86 to 1.93; P<.001), and PND (MD −0.91; 95% CI −1.34 to −0.49; P<.001). Postnatal anxiety (PNA) scores of the intervention group were only significantly better after adjusting for covariates (MD −0.82; 95% CI −1.15 to −0.49; P<.001). Conclusions The technology-based SEPP is effective in enhancing parental bonding, PSE, perceived social support and parental satisfaction, and in reducing PND and PNA. Health care professionals could incorporate it with existing hands-on infant care classes and routine care to better meet parents’ needs and create positive childbirth experiences, which may in turn encourage parents to have more children.
