Abstract
Purpose Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a progressive respiratory condition characterized by persistent airflow limitation, leading to significant morbidity and mortality. Despite the effectiveness of multiple inhaler triple therapy (MITT), its complexity often results in poor adherence and suboptimal outcomes. Transitioning to single inhaler triple therapy (SITT) may enhance adherence, leading to improved clinical outcomes and quality of life of patients. The Real-World Effectiveness of Single Inhaler Triple Treatment through Assorted Respiratory Outcomes when Switched from Multiple Inhaler Triple Therapies (RESTART) study aimed to evaluate the clinical benefits of switching from MITT to SITT using fluticasone furoate/umeclidinium/vilanterol (FF/UMEC/VI) in a real-world Korean setting. Patients and Methods This prospective, multicenter, observational study enrolled 107 patients, aged 40 and older, with diagnosed COPD, all previously on MITT. The patients were transitioned to once-daily FF/UMEC/VI administered via the ELLIPTA inhaler. The primary outcome was a change in the COPD Assessment Test (CAT) score after 24 weeks. The secondary outcomes included changes in lung function, exacerbation rates, Modified Medical Research Council Dyspnea Scale scores, and Treatment Satisfaction-Visual Analysis Scale (TS-VAS) scores. Results A total of 91 patients completed the 24-week observation. CAT scores significantly improved (mean change = 1.40 points, P = 0.007). Lung function also improved, with a mean increase in the FEV1/FVC ratio (mean change = 4.31%, P = 0.005). Exacerbation rates decreased significantly (incidence rate ratio = 0.45, P = 0.016). Treatment satisfaction increased, with a mean TS-VAS score rise of 1.71 points (P < 0.001). Conclusion The transition from MITT to SITT significantly improved COPD symptom management, pulmonary function, exacerbation rate, and treatment satisfaction in Korean cohort. Using a single inhaler to simplify therapy might increase patient compliance and improve clinical outcomes of COPD management.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES The development of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) in middle-aged working groups can be a major contributor to disability-adjusted life years. However, information regarding the current trends in influenza vaccination within this demographic group remains scarce. Thus, we aimed to investigate the recent 11-year trends in influenza vaccination and related factors among these populations in Korea. METHODS Of 42,879 individuals aged 40-64 years enrolled in the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey between 2010 and 2021, 35,323 were included. We investigated the yearly trend of influenza vaccination rate according to ASCVD risk and factors associated with being unvaccinated in the elevated ASCVD risk group (ASCVD risk score: ≥7.5%). RESULTS Among the 35,323 participants, 20,392 (57.7%) were classified into the elevated ASCVD risk group. Over the 11 years, the vaccination rate was significantly higher in the elevated ASCVD risk group than in the low ASCVD risk group (33.8% vs. 25.3%, p<0.001). Factors associated with the unvaccinated status in the elevated ASCVD risk group included younger age (<50 years; adjusted odds ratio, 1.61; 95% confidence interval, 1.31-1.98), male sex (1.43; 1.16-1.76), current smoker status (1.41; 1.13-1.76), residence in an urban area (1.19; 1.01-1.41), and having higher education (1.3; 1.04-1.64). CONCLUSIONS One in 3 middle-aged working adults with an elevated risk of ASCVD received the influenza vaccination. Although the influenza vaccination rate was higher in participants with an elevated ASCVD risk than in those with low ASCVD risk, the vaccination rate was relatively unsatisfactory.

Abstract
Background Understanding the trends of the prevalence and incidence rate of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is vital for improving the control and prevention of COPD. We aimed to examine the trends in the prevalence and incidence rate of COPD among adults aged 50 years or older in the United States during 2000-2020. Methods Utilizing data from the Health and Retirement Study, we analyzed COPD prevalence across survey waves and calculated COPD incidence rates between consecutive interview waves, stratified by gender and race. We employed joinpoint regression models to investigate trends in COPD prevalence and incidence. Results The individuals reporting COPD are more likely to be women and Caucasians. The age-adjusted prevalence of COPD among adults aged 50 years and over showed an increasing trend throughout the study period, spanning from 9.02% in 2000 to 9.88% in 2020 (average biennial percent change [ABPC] = 0.41, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.10, 0.71; p = 0.01). The age-adjusted incidence rate of COPD among adults aged 50 and over showed a decreasing trend throughout the study period 1031.1 per 100,000 person-years in 2000 to 700.5 per 100,000 person-years in 2020 (ABPC = -1.63, 95% CI: -2.88, -0.36; p = 0.02). Conclusion Our findings indicate a rising prevalence of COPD among older adults in the United States since 2000, while the incidence rate of COPD has shown a declining trend.

Abstract
BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES Nontuberculous mycobacterial pulmonary disease (NTM-PD) is an important comorbidity of COPD. Although many studies have reported an association between COPD and NTM-PD, no clear estimate of the prevalence of COPD and its effects on survival times in patients with NTM-PD is available. This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of COPD and its impact on survival in patients with NTM-PD. METHODS All studies reporting the prevalence of COPD in patients with NTM between 1952 and 2021 were searched using PubMed in May 2023. The inclusion criteria were studies about patients with NTM and COPD. A random-effects meta-analysis was performed in accordance with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines. RESULTS The pooled overall prevalence of COPD in patients with NTM-PD was 28% (95% confidence interval [CI], 22-35). Patients with NTM-PD were six times more likely to have COPD than those without NTM-PD (pooled odds ratio [OR], 6.26; 95% CI, 3.37-11.65). Male patients with NTM-PD had a four-fold higher risk of COPD than females (OR, 3.81; 95% CI, 1.18-12.35). The co-existence of COPD and NTM-PD was significantly associated with an increased risk of mortality compared with NTM-PD without COPD (OR, 3.65; 95% CI, 1.28-10.40). CONCLUSIONS COPD is common in patients with NTM-PD, and patients with NTM-PD had a six-fold increase in the odds of having COPD than those without NTM-PD. The presence of COPD and NTM-PD had a significant negative effect on survival. These findings may support the need to assess the presence of COPD in patients with NTM-PD and the potential negative effects associated with the co-existence of COPD and NTM-PD.

Abstract
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) remains a significant global health burden exacerbated by tobacco smoking, occupational exposure, and air pollution. COPD is one of the top 3 causes of death worldwide. In South Korea, the COPD burden is expected to increase due to ongoing exposure to risk factors and the aging population. COPD is extensively underdiagnosed or underestimated, owing to a lack of public awareness. This study aimed to develop and validate a nomogram for COPD by using national data to promote early diagnosis and intervention. This study drew on a dataset from the 7th Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey from 2016 to 2018, including 10,819 subjects aged 40 years or older with spirometry results. Influence of demographic, socioeconomic, and health-related factors on the incidence. Multivariable logistic regression was used to identify the significant predictors of the nomogram. The nomogram was validated using receiver operating characteristic curves, calibration plots, and concordance index (C-index). Internal validation was performed by bootstrapping. In the final analysis, 1059 (14.0%) participants had COPD. Key risk factors associated with increased COPD risk included being male, aged 70 and older, lower educational level, living in a rural area, current smoking status, underweight, and history of tuberculosis and asthma. The area under the curve (AUC) of the model was 0.822 (95% CI: 0.810-0.832), indicating that the nomogram has a high ability to identify COPD. The nomogram demonstrated solid predictive performance, as confirmed by calibration plots with a C-index (of 0.822) for the validation set with 1000 bootstrap samples. In conclusion, we developed a tool for the early detection of COPD with good properties in primary care settings, without spirometry. Appropriate and early diagnosis of COPD can have a crucial impact on public health.

Abstract
BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES Oxidative stress, an imbalance between oxidants and antioxidants, is known to affect pulmonary function (PF), thereby leading to the development of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). However, data on the associations of serum vitamin A and E concentrations with PF parameters and COPD are inconsistent. The present cross-sectional study aimed to investigate these associations, considering inflammatory status. PARTICIPANTS/METHODS This study included 2005 male and female adults aged ≥40 years who had participated in a population-based national survey. Spirometry without a bronchodilator was conducted to yield PF parameters, such as forced expiratory volume in one second (FEV1), forced vital capacity (FVC), and the FEV1/FVC ratio, which were used to define COPD. Serum vitamin A (retinol) and E (α-tocopherol) concentrations were assayed. Multivariable regression analysis was performed after adjusting for potential confounding variables. RESULTS Serum vitamin A concentration was positively associated with FEV1 (p for trend < 0.01) among all participants. In addition, the odds ratio (95% confidence interval) of the highest serum vitamin A concentration tertile for the prevalence of COPD, which was defined by the FEV1/FVC ratio < 0.7, was 0.53 (0.31, 0.90) compared with that of the lowest tertile (p for trend < 0.05). Analysis stratified by a cutoff point of 1 mg/L serum high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) revealed that such associations with FEV1 and COPD prevalence were stronger in participants with lower hs-CRP levels (p for trend < 0.05). In contrast, serum vitamin E concentration was associated with neither PF parameters nor COPD prevalence. CONCLUSIONS These findings suggest that serum vitamin A concentration may be important in preventing the progressive decline in PF parameters that results in COPD. Further epidemiological investigations are warranted to evaluate the causal associations of antioxidant vitamin status with PF parameters and COPD.

Abstract
Introduction Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is frequently associated with airflow limitation (AFL). However, information on the prevalence of and factors associated with likely OSA in individuals with AFL in Korea is limited. Methods Data from the 2019 Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES) were used, and 3,280 individuals (2,826 individuals without AFL and 454 individuals with AFL) were included. AFL was defined as forced expiratory volume in 1 s (FEV1)/forced vital capacity (FVC) < 0.7. A score ≥ 5 on the STOP-BANG questionnaire was used to identify individuals with likely OSA. The prevalence of likely OSA was compared between individuals with and without AFL. In addition, factors associated with likely OSA in individuals with AFL were evaluated using multivariable logistic regression analysis. Results Of 3,280 individuals, 13.8% had an AFL. The prevalence of likely OSA was significantly higher in individuals with AFL than in individuals without AFL (9.2% vs. 5.0%, p = 0.014). Among 454 individuals with AFL, obesity (adjusted odds ratio [aOR] = 14.78, 95% confidence interval [CI] = 4.20-52.02) was most strongly associated with likely OSA, followed by heavy alcohol consumption (aOR = 4.93, 95% CI = 1.91-12.70), hypertension (aOR = 4.92, 95% CI = 1.57-15.46), overweight (aOR = 4.71, 95% CI = 1.76-12.64), college graduate (aOR = 4.47, 95% CI = 1.10-18.22), and history of pulmonary tuberculosis (aOR = 3.40, 95% CI = 1.06-10.96). Conclusion In Korea, approximately 1 in 10 individuals with AFL had likely OSA. Overweight and obesity, heavy alcohol consumption, high educational level, hypertension, and history of pulmonary tuberculosis were associated with likely OSA in individuals with AFL.

Abstract
The 2023 Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease (GOLD) revised the definition of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) to broadly include a variety of etiologies. A new taxonomy, composed of etiotypes, aims to highlight the heterogeneity in causes and pathogenesis of COPD, allowing more personalized management strategies and emphasizing the need for targeted research to understand and manage COPD better. However, controversy arises with including some diseases under the umbrella term of COPD, as their clinical presentations and treatments differ from classical COPD, which is smoking-related. COPD due to infection (COPD-I) and COPD due to environmental exposure (COPD-P) are classifications within the new taxonomy. Some disease entities in these categories show distinct clinical features and may not benefit from conventional COPD treatments, raising questions about their classification as COPD subtypes. There is also controversy regarding whether bronchiectasis with airflow limitations should be classified as an etiotype of COPD. This article discusses controversial issues associated with the proposed etiotypes for COPD in terms of COPD-I, COPD-P, and bronchiectasis. While the updated COPD definition by GOLD 2023 is a major step towards recognizing the disease's complexity, it also raises questions about the classification of related respiratory conditions. This highlights the need for further research to improve our understanding and approach to COPD management.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Existing studies on chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) in Korea lack full population coverage, relying on small sample sizes. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the prevalence and mortality of COPD in the entire Korean population. METHODS This serial cross-sectional study used national databases, linking the National Health Information Database (2008-2017) with Causes of Death Statistics. Identification of individuals with COPD used diagnostic codes (International Classification of Diseases-10: J41-J44) or a history of COPD-related hospitalisation, focusing on adults aged 40 and above. Prevalence and mortality rates, calculated for 2008-2017, encompassed both crude and age-standardised and sex-standardised measures. A multivariate Poisson regression model estimated the association between COPD and all-cause and cause-specific mortality, presenting incidence rate ratios (IRRs) and 95% CIs, using data from the year 2017. RESULTS Age-adjusted COPD prevalence exhibited a notable increase from 2008 (7.9%) to 2017 (16.7%) in both sexes. The prevalences of diabetes mellitus, hypertension, dyslipidaemia, ischaemic heart disease, cancer, osteoporosis and tuberculosis were higher in the COPD group than in the group without COPD (p for all <0.001). The incidence of stroke and myocardial infarction (p for all <0.001) and overall mortality were higher in the COPD group (adjusted IRR 1.23, 95% CI 1.22 to 1.24, p<0.001). In particular, incidence rate and risk of mortality due to lung cancer were higher than that of those without COPD compared with other cancer types (adjusted IRR 2.51, 95% CI 2.42 to 2.60, p<0.001). It was significantly higher the incidence rate and risk of mortality among group with COPD than those without COPD in lower respiratory disease (adjusted IRR 16.62, 95% CI 15.07 to 18.33, p<0.001), asthma (adjusted IRR 6.41, 95% CI 5.47 to 7.51, p<0.001) and bronchiectasis (adjusted IRR 11.77, 95% CI 7.59 to 18.26, p<0.001), respectively. DISCUSSION Our study showed that the prevalence of COPD is gradually increasing from 9.2% in 2009 to 16.7% in 2018. Furthermore, in overall (all-cause) mortality, it was significantly higher in group with COPD than in group without COPD. The mortality rate of group with COPD was much higher than the overall mortality rate but is gradually decreasing.

Abstract
BACKGROUND A suboptimal peak inspiratory flow rate (PIFR) in dry-powder inhaler (DPI) users can lead to insufficient therapeutic effects in the treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). However, few data on the prevalence of and factors associated with suboptimal PIFR in Korean patients with COPD are available. METHODS We conducted a cross-sectional study of patients with COPD who had been using DPIs for more than three months. PIFR was measured using an In-Check DIAL G16 device. Suboptimal PIFR was defined as below the resistance-matched threshold. Multivariable logistic regression analysis was used to determine factors associated with suboptimal PIFR. RESULTS Of 444 DPI users with COPD, the rate of suboptimal PIFR was 22.0 % (98/444). In a multivariable analysis, significant factors associated with suboptimal PIFR were age (adjusted odds ratio [aOR] = 1.06 by 1-year increase; 95 % confidence interval [CI] = 1.02-1.09), male sex (aOR = 0.28; 95 % CI = 0.11-0.73), body mass index (BMI) (aOR = 0.91 by 1 kg/m2 increase; 95 % CI = 0.85-0.99), post-bronchodilator forced vital capacity (FVC) %pred (aOR = 0.97 by 1%pred increase; 95 % CI = 0.95-0.99), and In-Check DIAL R2-type inhaler [medium-low resistance] use (aOR = 3.70 compared with R1-type inhalers [low resistance]; 95 % CI = 2.03-7.03). CONCLUSIONS In Korea, more than one-fifth of DPI users with COPD had a suboptimal PIFR. The factors associated with suboptimal PIFR were age, female gender, low BMI, low FVC, and R2-type inhaler use. Therefore, clinicians should carefully evaluate the possibility of suboptimal PIFR when prescribing DPIs.

Abstract
Purpose The use of inhaled bronchodilators is the mainstay of treatment for patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Although the soft mist inhaler (SMI) was developed to overcome the disadvantages of pressurized metered dose and drug powder inhalers, misuse during handling has been frequently observed in many studies. However, few studies have focused on SMI misuse among patients with COPD. Thus, we aimed to assess and identify the risk factors associated with SMI misuse among patients with COPD. Patient and Methods In this prospective, observational, cross-sectional study, we enrolled patients with COPD who were undergoing SMI treatment between January 2018 and March 2020. An advanced nurse practitioner assessed the participants' handling of the device by using a check list. Results Among 159 participants, 136 (85.5%) reported inhaler misuse. Duration of COPD and COPD assessment test (CAT) scores were positively associated with inhaler misuse; adherence and education level were negatively associated with inhaler misuse. In the multivariable analysis, a low educational level (less than high school), high CAT score (≥ 10), and short duration of COPD (≤ 2 years) were identified as risk factors for SMI misuse. Conclusion SMI misuse remains common among patients with COPD. Therefore, clinicians should pay close attention to their patients using SMIs, especially in the early period after the diagnosis of COPD.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Acute exacerbations of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (AECOPD) exert a substantial burden on patients and healthcare systems; however, data related to the frequency of AECOPD in the Korean population are limited. Therefore, this study aimed to describe the frequency of severe, and moderate or severe AECOPD, as well as clinical and demographic characteristics of patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) in South Korea. METHODS Data from patients aged > 40 years with post-bronchodilator forced expiratory volume in 1 second (FEV1)/forced vital capacity ≤ 70% of the normal predicted value from the Korea COPD Subgroup Study database were analyzed (April 2012 to 2021). The protocol was based on the EXAcerbations of COPD and their OutcomeS International study. Data were collected retrospectively for year 0 (0-12 months before study enrollment) based on patient recall, and prospectively during years 1, 2, and 3 (0-12, 13-24, and 25-36 months after study enrollment, respectively). The data were summarized using descriptive statistics. RESULTS Data from 3,477 Korean patients (mean age, 68.5 years) with COPD were analyzed. Overall, most patients were male (92.3%), former or current smokers (90.8%), had a modified Medical Research Council dyspnea scale score ≥ 1 (83.3%), and had moderate airflow limitation (54.4%). The mean body mass index (BMI) of the study population was 23.1 kg/m², and 27.6% were obese or overweight. Hypertension was the most common comorbidity (37.6%). The mean blood eosinophil count was 226.8 cells/μL, with 21.9% of patients having ≥ 300 cells/μL. A clinically insignificant change in FEV1 (+1.4%) was observed a year after enrollment. Overall, patients experienced a mean of 0.2 severe annual AECOPD and approximately 1.1 mean moderate or severe AECOPD. Notably, the rates of severe AECOPD remained generally consistent over time. Compared with patients with no exacerbations, patients who experienced severe exacerbations had a lower mean BMI (21.7 vs. 23.1 kg/m²; P < 0.001) and lower lung function parameters (all P values < 0.001), but reported high rates of depression (25.5% vs. 15.1%; P = 0.044) and anxiety (37.3% vs. 16.7%; P < 0.001) as a comorbidity. CONCLUSION Findings from this Korean cohort of patients with COPD indicated a high exacerbation burden, which may be attributable to the unique characteristics of the study population and suboptimal disease management. This highlights the need to align clinical practices with the latest treatment recommendations to alleviate AECOPD burden in Korea. TRIAL REGISTRATION ClinicalTrials.gov Identifier: NCT05750810.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The relationship between sarcopenia and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) has been increasingly reported, and there is some overlap regarding their clinical features and pulmonary rehabilitation (PR) strategies. No Korean study has reported the actual prevalence of sarcopenia in patients with stable COPD who are recommended for pulmonary rehabilitation. This study evaluated the prevalence and clinical features of sarcopenia in older adult outpatients with stable COPD and the changes after 6 months. METHODS In this cross-sectional and 6-month follow-up study, we recruited 63 males aged ≥ 65 diagnosed with stable COPD. Sarcopenia was diagnosed using the AWGS 2019 criteria, which included hand grip strength testing, bioelectrical impedance analysis, Short Physical Performance Battery administration, and Strength, Assistance with walking, Rising from a chair, Climbing stairs, and Falling screening tool administration. A 6-minute walk test (6 MWT) was conducted, forced vital capacity (FVC), forced expiratory volume in 1 s (FEV1), maximal inspiratory and expiratory pressures (MIP and MEP, respectively) and peak expiratory flow (PEF) were assessed, and patient-reported questionnaires were administered. RESULTS At baseline, 14 (22%) patients were diagnosed with possible sarcopenia, and eight (12.6%) were diagnosed with sarcopenia. There were significant differences in the age; body mass index; Body mass index, airflow Obstruction, Dyspnea, and Exercise index; modified Medical Research Council dyspnea scores; and International Physical Activity Questionnaire scores between the normal and sarcopenia groups. Whole-body phase angle, MIP, MEP, PEF, and 6-minute walk distance (6 MWD) also showed significant differences. Over 6 months, the proportion of patients with a reduced FEV1 increased; however, the proportion of patients with sarcopenia did not increase. CONCLUSION A relatively low prevalence of sarcopenia was observed in older adult outpatients with stable COPD. No significant change in the prevalence of sarcopenia was found during the 6-month follow-up period. Abstract
BACKGROUND Tuberculosis (TB) survivors have an increased risk of developing chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). This study assessed the risk of COPD development and COPD-related hospitalization in TB survivors compared to controls. METHODS We conducted a population-based cohort study of TB survivors and 1:1 age- and sex-matched controls using data from the Korean National Health Insurance Service database collected from 2010 to 2017. We compared the risk of COPD development and COPD-related hospitalization between TB survivors and controls. RESULTS Of the subjects, 9.6% developed COPD, and 2.8% experienced COPD-related hospitalization. TB survivors had significantly higher COPD incidence rates (36.7/1,000 vs. 18.8/1,000 person-years, P < 0.001) and COPD-related hospitalization (10.7/1,000 vs. 4.3/1,000 person-years, P < 0.001) than controls. Multivariable Cox regression analyses revealed higher risks of COPD development (adjusted hazard ratio [aHR], 1.63; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.54-1.73) and COPD-related hospitalization (aHR, 2.03; 95% CI, 1.81-2.27) in TB survivors. Among those who developed COPD, the hospitalization rate was higher in individuals with post-TB COPD compared to those with non-TB COPD (10.7/1,000 vs. 4.9/1,000 person-years, P < 0.001), showing an increased risk of COPD-related hospitalization (aHR, 1.84; 95% CI, 1.17-2.92). CONCLUSION TB survivors had higher risks of incident COPD and COPD-related hospitalization compared to controls. These results suggest that previous TB is an important COPD etiology associated with COPD-related hospitalization.

Abstract
BACKGROUND In Korea, tests for evaluating respiratory muscle strength are based on other countries' clinical experience or standards, which can lead to subjective evaluations. When evaluating respiratory function based on the standards of other countries, several variables, such as the race and cultures of different countries, make it difficult to apply these standards. The purpose of this study was to propose objective respiratory muscle strength standards and predicted values for healthy Korean adults based on age, height, weight, and muscle strength, by measuring maximal inspiratory pressure (MIP), maximal expiratory pressure (MEP), and peak cough flow (PCF). METHODS This cross-sectional study analyzed MIP, MEP, and PCF in 360 people, each group comprising 30 adult men and women aged 20-70, diagnosed as healthy after undergoing medical check-ups at a general hospital. Hand grip strength (HGS) and the five times sit-to-stand test (FTSST) results were also recorded. Correlations among respiratory muscle strength, participant demographics, and overall muscle strength were evaluated using Pearson's correlation analysis. The predicted values of respiratory muscle strength were calculated using multiple regression analysis. RESULTS Respiratory muscle strength differed from the values reported in studies from other countries. In the entire samples, both MIP and MEP had the highest correlations with peak HGS (r = 0.643, r = 0.693; P < 0.05), while PCF had the highest correlation with forced expiratory volume in 1 s (r = 0.753; P < 0.05). Age, body mass index, peak HGS, and FTSST results were independent variables affecting respiratory muscle strength. A predictive equation for respiratory muscle strength was developed using the multiple regression equation developed in this study. CONCLUSION Respiratory muscle strength index may differ by country. For more accurate diagnoses, standard values for each country are required. This study presents reference values for Korea, and a formula for estimation is proposed when no respiratory muscle strength measurement equipment is available.
