Abstract
BACKGROUND Visual disabilities (VD) are expected to rise with an aging population. Persons with VD experience a higher prevalence of chronic and acute diseases. Despite the significance of influenza to this population, there is limited data comparing influenza care disparities between those with VD and those without. OBJECTIVE The study aimed to determine the influenza burden and associated healthcare utilization in individuals with VD compared to those without disabilities. METHODS A retrospective cohort study was conducted using the Korean National Health Information Database, encompassing three influenza seasons (2011-2012 to 2013-2014). The influenza incidence and incidence rate ratio (IRR) was calculated. Adjusted IRRs were calculated using a zero-inflated Poisson model. We assessed the risk of admissions and 30-day post-influenza mortality, employing logistic regression or survival analysis. RESULTS A total of 504,374 patients (252,964 patients with VD and 251,410 controls) were followed for 1,471,480 person-years. The influenza incidence was higher in the VD cohort than in the control (8.8 vs. 7.8 cases per 1000 person-years). VD cohort had a higher influenza IRR (adjusted IRR 1·13, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1·02-1·25). Severe VD exhibited higher hospitalization risk (adjusted odds ratio [OR] 1·29, 95% CI 1·10-1·20) and increased medical costs. Severe VD was a significant risk factor for mortality (adjusted Hazard Ratio 1·89, 95% CI 1·04-3·45). CONCLUSIONS People with VD have a higher influenza incidence, while their outcomes are comparable to those without. Nevertheless, severe VD significantly contributes more to hospitalization, mortality, and medical costs than controls.

Abstract
The flu, often known as influenza, is a dangerous public health hazard for the pediatric population. Immunization is essential for decreasing the burden of the disease and avoiding complications related to influenza. However, the immunogenicity, efficacy, and safety of different influenza vaccines in children warrant careful evaluation. The purpose of this narrative review is to give a summary of the existing literature on the immunogenicity, efficacy, and safety of several vaccinations against influenza viruses in children. The review incorporates evidence from a range of studies focusing on the outcomes of interest. Immunogenicity studies have shown that influenza vaccines induce a robust immune response in children, primarily through neutralizing antibodies' formation. However, variations in vaccine composition influence the duration and magnitude of immune responses. Safety is a crucial consideration in pediatric vaccination. In children, influenza vaccinations have generally shown a high safety profile, with mild and temporary side effects being the most common. Vaccinations against influenza have shown a modest level of efficacy in avoiding hospitalizations linked to influenza, laboratory-confirmed influenza infections, and serious consequences in children. Live attenuated vaccines have shown higher effectiveness against matched strains compared to inactivated vaccines. In conclusion, this narrative review highlights that receiving influenza vaccination in children aged six to 47 months is very important. While different vaccines exhibit varying immunogenicity, safety profiles, and effectiveness, they all contribute to reducing the burden of influenza among children. Future research should focus on optimizing vaccine strategies, improving vaccine coverage, and evaluating long-term protection.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Many studies have described nosocomial outbreaks of influenza in specialized wards. We evaluated nosocomial transmission of influenza in a pediatric general ward. DESIGN Retrospective observational study. SETTING Single secondary hospital. PATIENTS The study included 814 hospitalized children with influenza between September 2015 and August 2020. METHODS The medical records of the included children were retrospectively reviewed, and clinical characteristics of children with community-acquired (CA) influenza and hospital-acquired (HA) influenza were determined. The room of each included child during hospitalization was traced to identify the children exposed to them. RESULTS CA influenza and HA influenza were diagnosed in 789 (96.9%) and 25 (3.1%) children, respectively. Among children with CA influenza, 691 (87.6%) were isolated or place in a cohort on admission. In total, 98 children (12.4%) admitted to multibed rooms exposed 307 children with noninfluenza diseases to influenza during 772 patient days; 3 exposed children (1.0%) were diagnosed with HA influenza. Including these 3 children, 25 children (19 without definite in-hospital exposure to influenza and 3 exposed to other children with HA influenza) were diagnosed with HA influenza, and 11 (44.0%) exposed 31 children with noninfluenza diseases to influenza for 85 patient days. Also, 3 exposed children (9.7%) were diagnosed with HA influenza, a significantly higher rate than that for CA influenza (P = .005). The clinical characteristics were comparable between children with HA influenza and those with CA influenza. CONCLUSIONS Cohort placement of children with influenza in a pediatric general ward can be effective in controlling nosocomial transmission of influenza. However, control measures for children with HA influenza should be emphasized.

Abstract
Both cancer patients and the elderly are at high risk of developing flu complications, so influenza vaccination is recommended. We aimed to evaluate potential adverse events (AEs) following influenza vaccination in elderly cancer patients using the self-controlled tree-temporal scan statistic method. From a large linked database of Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency vaccination data and the National Health Insurance Service claims data, we identified cancer patients aged over 65 who received flu vaccines during the 2016/2017 and 2017/2018 seasons. We included all the outcomes occurring on 1-84 days post-vaccination and evaluated all temporal risk windows, which started 1-28 days and ended 2-42 days. Patients who were diagnosed with the same disease during a year prior to vaccination were excluded. We used the hierarchy of ICD-10 to identify statistically significant clustering. This study included 431,276 doses of flu vaccine. We detected signals for 1 set: other dorsopathies on 1-15 days (attributable risk 16.5 per 100,000, P = 0.017). Dorsopathy is a known AE of influenza vaccine. No statistically significant clusters were found when analyzed by flu season. Therefore, influenza vaccination is more recommended for elderly patients with cancer and weakened immune systems.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Older persons are at high-risk of developing severe complications from influenza. This consensus statement was developed to provide guidance on appropriate influenza prevention strategies relevant to the Malaysian healthcare setting. METHODS Under the initiative of the Malaysian Influenza Working Group (MIWG), a panel comprising 11 multi-speciality physicians was convened to develop a consensus statement. Using a modified Delphi process, the panellists reviewed published evidence on various influenza management interventions and synthesised 10 recommendations for the prevention of influenza among the aged population via group discussions and a blinded rating exercise. RESULTS Overall, annual influenza vaccination is recommended for individuals aged ≥ 60 years, particularly those with specific medical conditions or residing in aged care facilities (ACFs). There is no preference for a particular vaccine type in this target population. Antiviral agents can be given for post-exposure chemoprophylaxis or when vaccine contraindication exists. Infection control measures should serve as adjuncts to prevent the spread of influenza, especially during Hajj. CONCLUSION This consensus statement presents 10 evidence-based recommendations that can be adopted by healthcare providers to prevent influenza among the aged population in Malaysia. It could also serve as a basis for health policy planning in other lower- and middle-income countries.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate healthcare professional staff and students' perception of wearing surgical masks before and after their experience with the COVID-19 pandemic, and to evaluate the impact on mask wearing behaviour in future influenza seasons. DESIGN Cross-sectional study using anonymous survey. SETTING AND PARTICIPANTS Healthcare students and staff from a healthcare academic institution in Southern California participated in the mask survey study. Survey results were collected from June to November 2021. A total of 305 respondents responded to the survey, with 173 being healthcare students and 132 being working healthcare staff. OUTCOMES The study examined respondents' perceptions and hospital mask wearing behaviour before and after their COVID-19 pandemic experience, as well as during previous and future influenza seasons. RESULTS Two hundred and sixty-four (86.6%) respondents agreed that wearing a surgical mask reduces infection and limits transmission of infectious disease, yet prior to the pandemic, only a small proportion wore a mask in the hospital or during patient care. After experiencing the COVID-19 pandemic, more respondents indicated that they would continue to wear a mask when they are in a hospital in general (n=145, 47.5%), during patient care (n=262, 85.9%), during influenza seasons throughout the hospital (n=205, 67.2%) and during influenza seasons during patient care (n=270, 88.5%). CONCLUSION The pandemic experience has greatly influenced the health prevention behaviours of healthcare students and staff. After the pandemic, many respondents will continue to practice surgical mask wearing behaviour in the hospital, especially during face-to-face patient care. This demonstrates a significant change in health prevention perceptions among the current and the future generation of healthcare professionals.

Abstract
Background Influenza vaccination reduces cardiovascular events in patients with cardiovascular disease (CVD). Identifying the factors that affect influenza vaccination uptake can help improve the prognosis in patients with CVD. This study aimed to evaluate the secular trends of influenza vaccination uptake and factors associated with lack of vaccination in individuals with CVD. Materials and methods We analyzed the annual trends and factors associated with influenza vaccination among 3,264 patients with CVD, included from the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey which reflect the health and nutritional status of the nationwide population of Korea conducted between 2007/2008 and 2018/2019. We used a stratified, multistage sampling method. Results The influenza vaccination rate was greater in patients with CVD (53–74%) than in those without CVD (28–40%). Multivariable logistic regression analysis showed that age <50 years [odds ratio (OR), 16.22; 95% confidence interval (CI), 7.72–34.07], 50–64 years (OR, 6.71; 95% CI, 4.37–10.28), male sex (OR, 1.45; 95% CI, 1.14–1.65), and asthma (OR, 0.45; 95% CI, 0.22–0.92) were independently associated with a lack of influenza vaccination. Among patients aged <65 years, smoking (OR, 2.30; 95% CI, 1.31–4.04), college graduation status (OR, 1.81; 95% CI, 1.16–2.82), and hypertension (OR, 0.70; 95% CI, 0.51–0.95) were independently associated with influenza vaccination. For individuals aged 65years, there was no significant determinant of lack of vaccination. Conclusion In patients with CVD, a continuous increase in the secular trend of influenza vaccination was demonstrated in Korea. Young age, male sex, and non-asthma status were independently associated with lack of influenza vaccination uptake.

Abstract
Few studies have examined the influenza vaccination rates among stroke survivors despite the importance of vaccines in preventing influenza- and stroke-related complications. Thus, we investigated the vaccination rates and the associated factors among stroke survivors using the representative Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2014–2018. We measured and compared the vaccination rates of 591 stroke survivors and 17,997 non-stroke survivors. Multivariate logistic regression analyses of all stroke survivors and age subgroups (<65 and ≥65 years) were performed to identify the factors influencing vaccination. The overall vaccination rate was significantly higher in the stroke survivors (64.8%) than in the non-stroke survivors (41.1%), but it was low compared to global standards. Among stroke survivors aged <65 years, the rate was low (37.5%), but it improved in those aged ≥65 years (85.6%). Age ≥ 65 years, the eligible age for the national free vaccination program was the most prominent predictor of vaccination for all stroke survivors, while smoking was a negative predictor. No significant factors were found in the subgroup analyses according to age (<65 and ≥65 years). Therefore, implementing strategic public health policies, such as expanding the free vaccination program to stroke survivors aged <65 years, may improve vaccine coverage.

Abstract
To curb the COVID‐19 pandemic, isolation measures are required. Shared room occupancy is recommended when isolation rooms are insufficient. However, there is little evidence of the applicability of shared and single room occupancy for patients with COVID‐19 to determine whether shared room occupancy is feasible. COVID‐19‐infected patients admitted to the Daegu Dongsan Hospital of Keimyung University from 21 February 2020 to 20 April 2020 were enrolled in the study and randomly assigned to hospital rooms. Clinical symptoms, underlying diseases and epidemiological data of patients were analysed after dividing participants into a shared room occupancy group (group A) and a single room occupancy group (group B). Outcomes analysed included microbiological cure rates, time to clinical symptom improvement, time to defervescence and negative‐to‐positive conversion rates of polymerase chain reaction (PCR) results during hospitalization. A total of 666 patients were included in this study, 535 and 131 patients in groups A and B, respectively. Group B included more underlying conditions, such as pregnancy and solid organ transplantation, and was more closely associated with severe pneumonia during hospitalization. Besides, no statistically significant differences between the two groups in terms of negative PCR rates at HD 7 and 14, conversion rates of PCR results from negative‐to‐positive, as well as time to the improvement of clinical symptoms, and time to defervescence were observed. Our results suggest that the shared room occupancy of patients with mild symptoms could be an alternative to single room occupancy during the COVID‐19 pandemic.

Abstract
BACKGROUND This study aimed to investigate the effect of antiviral therapy following influenza outpatient episodes on the incidence of hospitalized pneumonia episodes, one of secondary complications of influenza. METHODS In the National Health Insurance Research Database, data from July 2013 to June 2018 were used. All of the claim data with diagnoses of influenza and pneumonia were converted to episodes of care after applying 100 days of window period. With the 100-day episodes of care, the characteristics of influenza outpatient episodes and antiviral therapy for influenza, the incidence of hospitalized pneumonia episodes following influenza, and the effect of antiviral therapy for influenza on hospitalized pneumonia episodes were investigated. RESULTS The crude incidence rate of hospitalized pneumonia after influenza infection was 0.57% in both males and females. Factors affecting hospitalized pneumonia included age, income level except self-employed highest (only in females), municipality, medical institution type, precedent chronic diseases except hepatitis (only in females) and antiviral therapy. In the 2017 flu season, the relative risk was 0.38 (95% confidence interval [CI], 0.29-0.50) in males aged 0-9 and 0.43 (95% CI, 0.32-0.57) in females aged 0-9 without chronic diseases, and it was 0.51 (95% CI, 0.42-0.61) in males aged 0-9 and 0.42 (95% CI, 0.35-0.50) in females aged 0-9 with one or more chronic diseases in the aspect of the effect of antiviral therapy on pneumonia. It suggests that antiviral therapy may decrease the incidence of pneumonia after influenza infection. CONCLUSION After outpatient episode incidence of influenza, antiviral treatment has been shown to reduce the incidence of hospitalized pneumonia, especially in infants and children, during pandemic season 2017. Antiviral therapy for influenza is recommended to minimize burden caused by influenza virus infection and to reduce pneumonia. In addition, medical costs of hospitalization may decrease by antiviral therapy, especially in infants and children.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Mortality of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a major concern for quarantine departments in all countries. This is because the mortality of infectious diseases determines the basic policy stance of measures to prevent infectious diseases. Early screening of high-risk groups and taking action are the basics of disease management. This study examined the correlation of comorbidities on the mortality of patients with COVID-19. METHODS We constructed epidemiologic characteristics and medical history database based on the Korean National Health Insurance Service Big Data and linked COVID-19 registry data of Korea Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (KCDC) for this emergent observational cohort study. A total of 9,148 patients with confirmed COVID-19 were included. Mortalities by sex, age, district, income level and all range of comorbidities classified by International Classification of Diseases-10 based 298 categories were estimated. RESULTS There were 3,556 male confirmed cases, 67 deaths, and crude death rate (CDR) of 1.88%. There were 5,592 females, 63 deaths, and CDR of 1.13%. The most confirmed cases were 1,352 patients between the ages of 20 to 24, followed by 25 to 29. As a result of multivariate logistic regression analysis that adjusted epidemiologic factors to view the risk of death, the odds ratio of death would be hemorrhagic conditions and other diseases of blood and blood-forming organs 3.88-fold (95% confidence interval [CI], 1.52-9.88), heart failure 3.17-fold (95% CI, 1.88-5.34), renal failure 3.07-fold (95% CI, 1.43-6.61), prostate malignant neoplasm 2.88-fold (95% CI, 1.01-8.22), acute myocardial infarction 2.38-fold (95% CI, 1.03-5.49), diabetes was 1.82-fold (95% CI, 1.25-2.67), and other ischemic heart disease 1.71-fold (95% CI, 1.09-2.66). CONCLUSION We hope that this study could provide information on high risk groups for preemptive interventions. In the future, if a vaccine for COVID-19 is developed, it is expected that this study will be the basic data for recommending immunization by selecting those with chronic disease that had high risk of death, as recommended target diseases for vaccination.

Abstract
During the COVID‐19 pandemic, incidence rates for dental diseases will continue unabated. However, the intent to prevent the spread of this lethal respiratory disease will likely lead to reduced treatment access due to restrictions on population movements. These changes have the potential to increase dental‐related emergency department visits and subsequently contribute to greater viral transmission. Moreover, dentists experience unique challenges with preventing transmission due to frequent aerosol‐producing procedures. This paper presents reviews and protocols implemented by directors and residents at the Dental College of Georgia to manage a dental emergency clinic during the COVID‐19 pandemic. The methods presented include committee‐based prioritization of dental patients, a multilayered screening process, team rotations with social and temporal spacing, and modified treatment room protocols. These efforts aid in the reduction of viral transmission, conservation of personal protective equipment, and expand provider availability. These protocols transcend a university and hospital‐based models and are applicable to private and corporate models.

Abstract
BACKGROUND This study aimed to identify the incidence rate of episodes diagnosed with influenza and the effects of age-period-cohort (APC) in Koreans. METHODS The 2009-2018 National Health Insurance Research Database was used for analysis. All time-related claims connected relatively short window period in 100 days. The case definition was defined by all codes diagnosed with J09, J10, and J11. Calculation of the incidence rate and APC analysis adjusted income levels by insurance type, metropolitan city was performed to identify the characteristics of episodes diagnosed with influenza. RESULTS Incidence rate by age and cohort gradually increased since 2014. The incidence rate of males aged 0-4 years was 171.02 and that of females was 173.31 in 2015-2016 season. In males, 29.19 in 1963 cohort and 243.79 in 2013 cohort were confirmed as high incidence rates in 2017-2018 season. In the females, a high incidence was confirmed in 1953-1967 cohort and 1978-1987 cohort, and the incidence was 251.38 in 2013-2017 cohort. APC effects showed a high relative risk in the infants, the pandemic influenza season in 2010 (1/7/2009 to 30/6/2010) and the adults of 1978-1987 cohort. CONCLUSION Since 2014, influenza outbreaks have been increasing every year. The start year of free vaccination decreased the incidence in infants and adults over 65 years of age but the incidence increased from the following year. Because influenza can be primarily prevented by vaccination, reinforcement of vaccination in infants may reduce the disease burden in their parents, and also the risk of infection caused by family transmission. A new vaccination strategy is needed to reduce the incidence and burden of diseases caused by influenza infection.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The influenza season of 2017/2018 was burdensome in comparison to previous years. In patient management of seasonal influenza patients is poorly described. AIM To assess the impact of managing influenza patients on a dedicated influenza ward on antimicrobial use and duration, and length of stay (LOS). METHODS A prospective cohort study from Jan 1st to Feb 28th 2018. Patients diagnosed with influenza in the Emergency Department (ED) were cohorted under infectious disease (ID) or a general internal medicine (GIM) firms on a 35 bed influenza ward. At times of maximum capacity some patients were managed on other wards by other firms 'non flu ward'. FINDINGS 91 patients were admitted to the influenza ward from ED (64 ID, 27 GIM), 38 had influenza A. Patients managed by ID were more likely to be switched to oral antibiotics sooner median 3 vs 5 days p=.049. Antibiotic duration was shorter for patients managed by the ID firm median 7 vs 9 days p=.016. LOS was shorter for patients managed by the ID firm on the flu ward vs 'non flu ward', median 5 vs 9 days p=.007. No significant difference was seen between ID and GIM LOS on the flu ward, median 5 vs 7 days p=0.30. CONCLUSION Influenza patients managed by an infectious disease service on an influenza ward had reduced length of intravenous (IV) and total antimicrobial use compared to a GIM service and had reduced LOS compared to the standard of care, 'non flu ward' influenza patients.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES This study aims to identify the coverage rates for influenza vaccination and related factors depending on chronic disease in Korean adults aged 50 and older. METHODS The 2016 Korea Community Health Survey was used for analysis. Chi-square test was performed to investigate the coverage rates for influenza vaccination depending on chronic disease, and a multiple logistic regression analysis was used to identify the factors associated with influenza vaccination, by chronic disease. RESULTS In men with ≥1 chronic disease, 39.8% of 50-64 years of age, and 86.8% of elderly (over 65 years of age) received influenza vaccination. In women with ≥1 chronic disease, 58.7% of 50-64 years of age, and 89.9% of elderly (over 65 years of age) received influenza vaccination (p<0.001). The chronic diseases associated with influenza vaccination were hypertension (odds ratio [OR], 1.27; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.19 to 1.37), diabetes (OR, 1.41; 95% CI, 1.28 to 1.55) in men aged 50-64, hypertension (OR, 1.34; 95% CI, 1.20 to 1.49), diabetes (OR, 1.17; 95% CI, 1.02 to 1.33), chronic cardiovascular disease (OR, 1.31; 95% CI, 1.07 to 1.60) in elderly (over 65 years of age). In women aged 50-64, hypertension (OR, 1.39; 95% CI, 1.30 to 1.49), diabetes (OR, 1.51; 95% CI, 1.35 to 1.68), chronic cardiovascular disease (OR, 1.31; 95% CI, 1.05 to 1.64), and hypertension (OR, 1.55; 95% CI, 1.40 to 1.71), diabetes (OR, 1.27; 95% CI, 1.12 to 1.43) in elderly (over 65 years of age). CONCLUSIONS Populations in aged 50-64 are recommendation subject for vaccination or classified as high-risk group in case with chronic disease. Though subject over 60 years old is age close to the elderly, the coverage rates for vaccination was low. It is necessary to devise strategies to raise the coverage rates for vaccination.

Abstract
Hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) is a treatment for hematologic malignancies, immune deficiencies, or genetic diseases, ect. Recently, the number of HSCTs performed in Korea has increased and the outcomes have improved. However, infectious complications account for most of the morbidity and mortality after HSCT. Post-HSCT infectious complications are usually classified according to the time after HSCT: pre-engraftment, immediate post-engraftment, and late post-engraftment period. In addition, the types and risk factors of infectious complications differ according to the stem cell source, donor type, conditioning intensity, region, prophylaxis strategy, and comorbidities, such as graft-versushost disease and invasive fungal infection. In this review, we summarize infectious complications after HSCT, focusing on the Korean perspectives.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Influenza infection is a contagious disease and annual influenza vaccination is recommended to the patients with chronic diseases. Although diabetes is an indication for influenza vaccination, the global rate of influenza vaccination is insufficient. Therefore, our study aimed to elucidate influenza vaccination statuses among patients with diabetes and the related factors in Korea. METHODS A total of 32,268 subjects (4,540 with and 27,728 without diabetes) from the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey III-VI (2005-2015) were included. Socioeconomic factors and health-related factors were analyses for the relation of influenza vaccination by Student's t-test, the chi-squared test and a multivariate logistic regression analysis. RESULTS The influenza vaccination coverage rates were 50.0% in the diabetes mellitus (DM) group and 38.2% in the non-DM group. The trends in influenza vaccination rates during KNHANES III-VI were not significant in each group (P trend = 0.24 in the DM group, 0.30 in the non-DM group). Socioeconomic (older age, female sex, higher family income, and medical aid insurance) and health-related factors (lack of risky alcohol consumption, obesity, and recent health check-ups) were associated with influenza vaccination among patients with DM. CONCLUSIONS The rate of influenza vaccination among patients with diabetes is insufficient in Korea. More efforts are needed to increase the influenza vaccination rates among vulnerable at-risk populations.

Abstract
Objective The aims of the present study were to investigate the women's perspective on influenza infection and vaccination and to evaluate how they influence vaccine acceptability, in Korean women of childbearing age. Methods This was a prospective study by random survey of women of childbearing age (20 to 45 years). They were asked to complete a questionnaire assessing their knowledge, attitudes and acceptability of influenza vaccination before and during pregnancy. This study utilized data from the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES) between 2008 and 2012, to analyze the recent influenza vaccination trends. Results According to KNHANES (2008-2012), influenza vaccination rates in women of childbearing age have increased up to 26.4%, after 2009. The questionnaire was completed by 308 women. Vaccination rate during pregnancy or planning a pregnancy was 38.6%. The immunization rate increased significantly with the mean number of correct answers (P<0.001). Women who received influenza vaccination were more likely to be previously informed of the recommendations concerning the influenza vaccination before or during pregnancy, received the influenza vaccination in the past, and of the opinion that influenza vaccination is not dangerous during pregnancy, with odds ratios of 14.6 (95% confidence interval [CI], 6.44 to 33.33; P<0.0001), 3.6 (95% CI, 1.84 to 6.97; P=0.0002) and 2.7 (95% CI, 1.34 to 5.47; P=0.0057). Conclusion Influenza vaccination rate in women of childbearing age has increased in this study and national data. More information and recommendation by healthcare workers, especially obstetricians, including safety of vaccination, might be critical for improving vaccination rate in women of childbearing age.

Abstract
Influenza vaccination is important for cancer survivors, a population with impaired immunity. This study was designed to assess influenza vaccination patterns among Korean cancer survivors. In this cross-sectional analysis, data were obtained from standardized questionnaires from 943 cancer survivors and 41,233 non-cancer survivors who participated in the Fourth and Fifth Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys (2007-2011). We identified the adjusted influenza vaccination rates and assessed factors associated with influenza vaccination using multivariate logistic regression. Cancer survivors tended to have a higher adjusted influenza vaccination rate than the general population. The rates for influenza vaccination in specific cancer types such as stomach, hepatic, colon, and lung cancers were significantly higher than non-cancer survivors. Among all cancer survivors, those with chronic diseases, elderly subjects, and rural dwellers were more likely to receive influenza vaccination; those with cervical cancer were less likely to receive influenza vaccination. Cancer survivors were more likely to receive influenza vaccinations than non-cancer survivors, but this was not true for particular groups, especially younger cancer survivors. Cancer survivors represent a sharply growing population; therefore, immunization against influenza among cancer survivors should be concerned as their significant preventative healthcare services.
