Abstract
Gastrointestinal (GI) parasitic infections are the major constraint for livestock production causing huge economiclosses to the livestock producers in terms of decreased milk production and reduced weight gain. Gastrointestinaldisorders including diarrhoea may be caused by various etiological factors but parasitic infections play a significantrole. A total of 1755 faecal samples from cattle (n = 594) and buffaloes (n = 1161) with the history of digestive disturbances/disorders were tested at four Disease Investigation Laboratories at Ambala, Bhiwani, Mahendergarhand Rohtak in Haryana during July 2020 to June 2021. All the faecal samples were processed by floatation and sedimentation methods. Coprological examination revealed 33.5% cattle and 37.3% buffalo as positive for GIparasites. The major parasitic infection of Amphistomes (6.3%), Buxtonella sulcata (14.8%) and Strongyles (11.05%)was observed in bovines. Highest infection of Strongyles (13.3%) and Buxtonella sulcata (17.4%) was found in cattle and buffaloes, respectively. Gastrointestinal parasitic infections in calves were in higher frequency than adult animals. Season-wise GI parasitic infections were recorded to be non-significantly higher in rainy season. Area-wiseoccurrence of parasitic infection was recorded highest in Rohtak followed by Bhiwani, Ambala and the least in Mahendergarh district of Haryana. This kind of study is found to be helpful in formulating effective control trategiesagainst GI parasitic infections on regional basis.

Abstract
Gastrointestinal parasites (GIPs) are common among cattle resulting severe infection. Prevalence of GIPs in stray street cattle may pose risk of dissemination of parasites of zoonotic importance. This study was conducted to determine the prevalence of GIPs in stray cattle of the Kathmandu valley. One hundred (n = 100) freshly voided dung samples were collected from eight sites. The samples were processed using the concentration method for microscopic examination, and modified McMaster technique for quantification of mean eggs/oocysts per gram of feces (EPG/OPG). Results revealed that 72% of the cattle were found positive for one or more species of GIPs and nine genera of GIPs were recorded (Eimeria, Ostertagia, Haemonchus, Trichostrongylus, Capillaria, Trichuris, Toxocara, Fasciola and Paramphistomum). The prevalence of parasitic infection was higher in males (73.68%) than in females (69.76%). The prevalence was found to be highest in adults (63.89%) followed by heifers or steers (27.78%) and calves (8.33%). Approximately, 76% of the cross breed and 65% of the local breed of cattle were positive for parasitic infection. The parasites differed both in prevalence and intensity. Eimeria sp. was the most prevalent (27%) species and had the highest intensity (858.02 OPG ± 63.46 SD). To our knowledge, this is the first research of its kind in relation to stray cattle in Nepal. Our findings reveal that there is a burden of helminth infections of zoonotic and socioeconomic importance in straycattle. Therefore, we recommend regular inspection of stray cattle and relevant preventive measures be put in place.

Abstract
This study aimed to evaluate the immune responses and oxidative stress provoked by Toxocara vitulorum infection in buffaloes with special reference to milk parameters as an emerging tool. The use of the milk tool was reported for the first time in tracing T. vitulorum infection in Egyptian buffaloes. Intestine, milk, serum, and liver samples were gathered from flocks in Cairo and Giza districts to evaluate buffalo immune responses provoked by T. vitulorum. The compositional items and somatic cells of milk were monitored. The intestine and milk were evaluated for interleukin IL-1β, IL-6, and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction protocol and the analysis of malondialdehyde (MDA) as an oxidative stress marker. The mean percentages for the total solids, fats, proteins, lactose, salts, pH, and somatic cell count/ml in positive samples were 11.23 ± 0.37, 5.1 ± 0.17, 4.44 ± 0.14, 3.9 ± 0.14, 0.81 ± 0.02, 6.8 ± 0.22, and 4.23 × 106± 1.41 × 105 cells/ml, respectively. A significant difference (p < 0.05) was observed in the mean values of compositional items except for the total protein %, salts %, and pH. For T. vitulorum-contaminated samples, the milk IL-1β, IL-6, TNF-α, and MDA (nmol/ml) were 7 ± 0.23, 18 ± 0.6, 17 ± 0.56, and 3.7 ± 0.12, respectively (which were less than the values for intestinal cytokines). There is a statistical difference (p < 0.05) between positive and negative samples in the intestinal, milk cytokines, and MDA. This study is an initial investigation of the utilization of intestine and milk cytokines in the evaluation of buffalo toxocariasis.

Abstract
Background Bovine eimeriosis is thought to be very important for the productivity and health of cattle all over the world. Despite the importance of cattle farming in Sylhet, little is known about the prevalence of bovine Eimeria spp. and the risk factors connected with it. Objectives We conducted a study to evaluate the prevalence, species diversity and associated risk factors of Eimeria spp. in a population of 50 cattle farms from 12 upazilas (sub‐district) in Sylhet district. Methods Faecal samples were collected randomly from a total of 554 calves ranging in age from 1 month to 2 years old during a period of 7 months. We used Flotation and McMaster techniques for parasitological examination. Species identification was done by using their morphological and morphometric characteristics. Results Out of 554 calves, 308 were found to be positive for Eimeria species (55.60%). Seven species of Eimeria were identified. Among the identified species, E. bovis (38.98%), E. zuernii (26.17%) and E. alabamensis (22.38%) were found to be the most prevalent species. Mixed and species‐specific Eimeria infection were (24.73%; 95% CI 21.32–28.49) and (30.87%; 95% CI 27.17–34.84), respectively. In addition, the highest prevalence was observed at Zakigonj (68%; 95% CI 58.34–76.33) and the lowest at Companygonj (40%; 95% CI 30.94–49.80). Eimeria species intensity ranged between 50 and 76,550 oocyst per gram of faeces. Analysis of associated risk factors by using multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed that age, gender and body condition were significantly (p < 0.05) associated with Eimeria infection. Conclusions Based on these present findings, it can be assumed that ‘coccidia belong to the most prevalent pathogens in the population of calves in the study area’. Thus, the findings of this study could be used as tools for adoptive surveillance and effective control and prevention of the disease in cattle populations in this region.

Abstract
Endoparasite infections can lead to considerable economic losses in dairy cattle due to decreases in milk yield and quality. Environmental and host-related factors contribute to endoparasite infection intensity and probability. Moreover, advancing urbanization influences parasite infection dynamics in livestock due to close human-animal cohabitation and changes in animal housing conditions. The aim of the present study was to investigate social-ecological effects on gastrointestinal nematode (GIN) and Eimeria spp. infections in dairy cattle along a rural-urban gradient in the emerging Indian megacity Bangalore. In this regard, 726 faecal samples from 441 dairy cattle of different ages and physiological stages were collected from 101 farms and examined at three visits between June 2017 and April 2018. Based on a survey stratification index (SSI) comprising built-up density and distance to the city center, we assigned the farms to urban, mixed and rural areas. GIN eggs were identified in the faeces of 243 cattle (33.5%; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 30.1-36.9%), and Eimeria spp. oocysts in the faeces of 151 cattle (20.8%; 95% CI: 17.9-23.7%). Co-infection rates of GIN and Eimeria spp. were 8.5 to 12.2% higher in rural compared to urban and mixed areas. The SSI effect significantly influenced Eimeria spp. infection probability and oocyst per gram of faeces (OpG; P < 0.001) with an infection probability and OpG higher than 26% and 40% for cattle kept in rural areas compared to cattle from urban areas. However, the SSI effect was not significant for the infection probability of GIN and for GIN eggs per gram of faeces (EpG). Infection probabilities and EpG/OpG were significantly higher in calves and heifers compared to lactating and dry cows. Moreover, we estimated significantly lower OpG values in summer compared to the other seasons. No differences were estimated for GIN and Eimeria spp. infection probabilities and EpG/OpG with regard to pasture access and breed. The variations in endoparasite infection intensity and probability observed along the rural-urban gradient of Bangalore reflect the variability in dairy husbandry systems governed by the social-ecological context.

Abstract
Coprological studies on the prevalence of gastrointestinal helminth (GI) parasites in domestic ruminants from Srikakulam district of Andhra Pradesh, India, were carried out for a period of one year from January 2019 to December 2019. Fecal examination was done using direct smear, sedimentation and floatation methods. Altogether 3527 fecal samples were examined including 595 from cows, 485 from buffaloes, 1342 from sheep and 1105 from goat. Out of 3527 fecal samples examined, 1084 were found to be positive with three groups of gastrointestinal parasites (GI) showing an overall prevalence of 30.7%. Maximum infection was noted with nematodes (39.1%) and trematodes (37.3%), least infection was noted with cestodes (3.5%) and mixed infections were found to be moderate (20.01%). Host wise prevalence of parasitic infection has shown highest in the case of cattle recording 43.03%, followed by 40.8% in buffaloes, 29.4% in sheep, and 21.4% in goats. Total six varieties of parasites were recorded, the predominant being Haemonchus (Strongyle group) (29.25%), followed by Paramphistomum (25.5%), Fasciola (11.9%), Strongyloides (7.6%), Moniezia (3.5%) and Trichuris (2.2%). Season wise data on prevalence showed, high rate of infection in summer season (32.0%) when compared to winter (30.2%) and rainy (29.9%) seasons. Further studies are needed to design a rational for sustainable management of GI parasite infections in domestic animals of local regions.

Abstract
In the present study, the tick isolates were collected from Assam state, of northeastern region (NER) and characterized using in vitro bioassay, biochemical and molecular assays. Comparing LC50 value of susceptible IVRI-I and larvae of field isolates, revealed that RF against deltamethrin was highest for Morigaon (MGN = 21.8) and lowest for Sonitpur (SNP = 3.3) isolate. The RF against cypermethrin was highest for Nagaon (NGO = 5.0) and lowest for Barpeta (BPT = 1.2) isolate. Against coumaphos, the highest RF of 4.5 was calculated for BPT (4.5) and lowest for NGO (1.3) isolate. While using adults based assay, highest RF of 24.68 against deltamethrin and lowest RF of 4.96 was determined for MGN and SNP isolate, respectively. In contrast to the results obtained using larvae, against cypermethrin, highest RF was recorded for Kamrup Metropolitan (KMP) while it was NGO isolate using larvae. In case of coumaphos, both larvae and adults of BPT isolate were also highly resistant and lowest RF was detected in SNP (2.30) isolate. All the isolates were susceptible to ivermectin. A significant correlation (p < 0.01) between deltamethrin resistance and higher expression of glutathioneS-transferase was observed while no correlation with esterase and monooxygenase enzymes activity was noted. For the development of possible ecofriendly control measure, different accessions of Argemone mexicana and Datura metel plant species were collected, extracted and screened against adult ticks. Two accessions, NEA-03 and NED-06 collected from Amlighat and Diphu (East Karbi Anglong) were more than 90 % effective. Further dose response study of these accessions determined the LC50 values of 4.86 and 3.96 %, respectively.The resistance status of the collected tick isolates was compared with the data generated from other regions having higher livestock population and possibility of exploitation of identified plant species for the development of natural antitick product is discussed.

Abstract
A study was conducted on cattle and buffaloes in western region of Gujarat to determine the incidence of gastrointestinal parasites (GIPs) infection in it. Coprological examination revealed, higher incidence of GIPs infections in cattle compared to buffaloes. Overall, incidence of parasitic infections in both cattle and buffaloes was recorded highest for protozoan parasites followed by nematode, trematode and least for cestode. Age wise, the highest incidence of GI parasitic infections was recorded in up to 2 years age group followed by 2–5 years aged and lowest in above 5 years aged animals. Significantly, higher prevalence of GI parasites was recorded in female cattle and buffaloes compared to male. Seasonally, significantly higher percentage of GI parasitic infections was recorded in monsoon followed by winter compared to summer. Similarly, breed wise, significantly higher infection of GI parasites was recorded in Gir cattle compared to Jaffrabadi buffaloes.

Abstract
The study was conducted to find out the prevalence of gastrointestinal (GI) helminths in cattle of low lying and marshy areas of Kashmir valley over a period of one year. The qualitative faecal examination of 885 samples revealed an overall prevalence of GI helminths to the tune of 37.06% comprising 7.80% trematodes, 4.29% cestodes and 31.98% nematodes. Prevalence of paramphistomes (7.34%) was more than that of Fasciola spp (0.45%). Among cestodes, the only genus reported was Moniezia spp (4.29%). In nematodes, maximum prevalence was observed for strongyle worms (31.19%) followed by Strongyloides spp. (1.24%) and Trichuris spp (0.57%). Seasonal variation of GI helminths revealed significantly highest prevalence in autumn (50%) followed by spring (41.62%), summer (33.99%) and winter (25.50%). Overall prevalence of GI helminths was significantly higher in young cattle (64.62%) than adults (32.32%). Significantly higher prevalence of GI helminths was observed in males (50.53%) as compared to females (35.44%). Mean intensity of GI nematodes ranged from 0 to 350 with an average of 177.41±28.25 eggs per gram (EPG). Significantly highest mean intensity of GI nematodes was found in summer (173.61±46.70) followed by spring (148.88±56.70), autumn (113±11.34) and winter (95.83±33.24). Mean EPG in young cattle (192.71±27.20) was significantly higher than that of adults (162.11±29.30). Sex had non-significant influence on intensity of GI nematodes. On the basis of above study, it can be concluded that the prophylactic dosing of cattle against trematodes should be done during late autumn and late winter or early spring. Similarly prophylactic de-worming of animals in mid-autumn, mid-spring and mid-summer shall be useful in preventing production losses. However, it will be better to use broad spectrum drug which is effective against trematodes, cestodes as well as nematodes to avoid frequent dosing.

Abstract
Mecistocirrus digitatus and Toxocara vitulorum are common pathogenic nematode parasites of mithun (Bos frontalis). Species identification by morphological features was confirmed by molecular identification of M. digitatus and T. vitulorum. The internal transcribed spacer-2 (ITS-2) region and beta tubulin gene of M. digitatus were polymerase chain reaction (PCR) amplified and sequenced. ITS-2 sequence analysis showed 100% homology with other isolates of M. digitatus and 83% identity with Haemonchus contortus and H. placei, respectively. Likewise, ITS-1 and ITS-2 sequences of T. vitulorum were PCR amplified and sequenced. Sequence analysis of these internal transcribed spacers from five worms of the parasite from mithun showed no intraspecific variations with T. vitulorum isolates from domestic ruminants.

Abstract
A total of 715 faecal sampleswere collected fromdairy animals ofeight tehsils ofBikaner district, Rajasthan during March 2015 to January 2016. An overall prevalence rate of 54.12 % was recorded for gastrointestinal helminthoses with highly statistical difference among dairy animals (p < 0.01). Quantitative analysis revealed mild to high severity of strongyle and Strongyloides sp. infections in cattle population, respectively whereas, mild severities of same infections were reported from the buffalo population of the region. Seasonal analysis revealed a non-significant difference with highest prevalence in rainy season (59.18 %). The tehsil wise analysis revealed a significant difference (p < 0.05) among tehsils with highest prevalence in Chhatargarh (69.70 %). Multivariate binary regression model revealed rainy season as the most favorable season and Chattargarh as the tehsil with maximum risk for GI helminth infections.On coproculture of positive samples, the nematode infections in decreasing order of prevalence were Haemonchus sp. (36.33 %); Oesophagostomum sp. (26.33 %); Strongyloides sp. (13.67 %); Trichostrongylus sp. (11.67 %); Bunostomum sp. (7.33 %) and Cooperia sp. (4.67 %). Thebaseline data on the prevalence of various GI Helminths of dairy animals generated in the current study would be of immense help in formulating control strategies against infections inBikaner district.

Abstract
Copro samples (1,126) of locally reared cattle at north Kashmir (Baramulla, Kupwara and Bandipora) were examined over a period of 1 year by qualitative and quantitative techniques. The overall prevalence of gastrointestinal (GI) helminths was 59.86% with trematodes, cestodes and nematodes in 11.63, 4.44 and 53.02% animals, respectively. Paramphistomes (7.10%) were the most prevalent trematodes followed by Fasciola spp. (4.53%) and Dicrocoelium spp. (0.27%). Prevalence of Moniezia spp. the only cestode found in the study was 4.44%. Among nematodes, the prevalence of strongyle worms was the highest (49.91%) followed by Trichuris spp. (3.64%) and Strongyloides spp. (2.04%). Seasonal variation revealed significantly highest prevalence of GI helminths during spring (68.21%) followed by autumn (67.50%), summer (55.59%) and winter (48.21%). Overall young cattle had significantly higher prevalence (68.13%) than adult animals (55.10%) but trematode infection was significantly higher in adults. Overall GI helminths were non-significantly higher in females (60.56%) as compared to males (58.24%) but the prevalence of paramphistomes was significantly higher in females. The prevalence of Dicrocoelium spp. and all the nematodes was nonsignificantly higher in males. EPG was ranging between 0 and 400 with an average EPG of 177.44±6.29. Highest EPG was recorded in spring (231.11±14.15) followed by summer (211.11±11.56), autumn (148.00±11.15) and winter (132.73±8.32). On coprocultural examination, Haemonchus spp. (65%) was found to be the most predominant strongyle worm followed by Bunostomum spp. (20%) and Trichostrongylus spp. (15%).

Abstract
The current study was conducted to investigate the incidence of parasitic diseases in bovines which were sick and brought at veterinary hospital for treatment. A total of 366 samples were investigated from cattle (n = 175) and buffaloes (n = 191) presented at Teaching Veterinary Clinical Complex (TVCC), Veterinary College, Junagadh, Gujarat during January to December 2014. Examination of Giemsa-stained peripheral blood smears exhibited that 58.6 % of cattle and 41.2 % of buffaloes were infected with haemoparasites comprising Babesia bigemina, Theileria annulata, and Anaplasma marginale @ of 54.0, 3.4 and 1.1 in cattle and 38.8, 1.2 and 1.2 percent in buffaloes, respectively. The incidence of total haemoparasites and B. bigemina infections was significantly higher (p < 0.05) in cattle whereas, incidence of haemoparasites were recorded significantly higher in the month of July to November (i.e., rainy and autumn) in both cattle and buffaloes, respectively (p < 0.01 and p < 0.001). Coprological examination revealed that the overall incidence of gastrointestinal (GI) parasitic infection was 45.5 % in cattle and 43.4 % in buffaloes. The incidence of individual parasite was 11.4, 1.1, 2.3, 4.5, 1.1, 3.4, 2.3 and 19.3 in cattle and 4.7, 0.9, 0.0, 2.8, 0.9, 5.7, 0.0 and 28.3 % in buffaloes for Eimeria spp., Trichuris spp., Toxocara vitulorum, Strongyle, Fasciola spp., amphistomes, Schistosoma indicum and Buxtonella sulcata, respectively which differ insignificantly (p > 0.05). Seasonal prevalence of GI parasites was highest in summer in both cattle and buffaloes, the data being statistically non-significant (p > 0.05). However, the incidence of B. sulcata in both cattle (19.3 %) and buffaloes (28.3 %) was higher in comparisons to other GI parasites. The present investigation emphasized that B. bigemina and B. sulcata are the most important parasites of bovines of this region.

Abstract
A total of 2089 faecal samples (956 buffaloes and 1133 cattle) were collected from 21 districts of five major agro-climatic zones of Punjab during April, 2013-May, 2014. An overall prevalence rate of 32.17 % (672/2089) was recorded for coccidiosis in dairy animals with a significantly higher (P < 0.01) infection rate in buffaloes (35.46 %) in comparison to cattle (29.39 %). Quantitative analysis revealed oocyst per gram of faeces ranging from 200 to 10,000 (1083.72 ± 227.20) and 100 to 2400 (748.72 ± 81.38), in cattle and buffalo populations, respectively. The results of multivariate analysis showed that prevalence of coccidiosis in cattle population was associated with various risk factors viz. districts (P = 0.000; OR 2.749; 95 % CI 1.238-6.107), agro-climatic zones (P = 0.004; OR 2.707; 95 % CI 1.707-4.293) and seasons (P = 0.000; OR 1.106; 95 % CI 0.811-1.509). Similarly, in buffalo population an association with districts (P = 0.000; OR 2.163; 95 % CI 0.702-6.668), agro-climatic zones (P = 0.000; OR 1.237; 95 % CI 0.673-2.277) and seasons (P = 0.100; OR 1.382; 95 % CI 1.003-1.903) was recorded. The findings of the current study would provide a basis for evolving effective control strategy for the management of coccidiosis in dairy animals of the region.

Abstract
Coprological examination of 416 bovine faecal samples revealed the presence of parasitic stages of Toxocara vitulorum, strongyles, Strongyloides spp., Fasciola spp., amphistomes, coccidia (Eimeria spp. and Cryptosporidium spp.) and Buxtonella sulcata. About 42 % (n = 302) faecal samples from cattle and 36 % (n = 114) samples from buffaloes were positive for gastrointestinal (GI) parasitic infections. Both cattle (14.57 %) and buffalo (15.79 %) had the highest incidence of Buxtonella sulcata, respectively. The overall incidence of GI parasitic infections in young animals (below 1 year) was higher followed by older (more than 5 years) and adult animals (1-5 years) and the difference was statistically significant (p < 0.05). Non descriptive breeds of bovines showed more parasitic infections than pure breeds, the difference being statistically non-significant (p > 0.05). Season wise GI parasitic infections were recorded to be non-significantly (p > 0.05) higher in monsoon (48.38 %) followed by summer (39 %) and winter (34.61 %) in cattle. There was no significant variation of GI infections in buffaloes in relation to season though highest prevalence was documented in monsoon (44.89 %) followed by winter (35.71 %) and summer (24.32 %). Similarly, sex wise females recorded higher infection rates than males in bovines and the difference being statistically non-significant (p > 0.05).

Abstract
Hematophagous activity of Mecistocirrus digitatus, which causes substantial blood and weight loss in large ruminants, is an emerging challenge due to the economic loss it brings to the livestock industry. Infected animals are treated with anthelmintic drugs, based on the identification of helminth species and the severity of infection; however, traditional methods such as microscopic identification and the counting of eggs for diagnosis and determination of level of infection are laborious, cumbersome and unreliable. To facilitate the detection of this parasite, a SYBR green-based real-time PCR was standardized and validated for the detection of M. digitatus infection in cattle and buffaloes. Oligonucleotides were designed to amplify partial Internal Transcribed Spacer (ITS)-1 sequence of M. digitatus. The specificity of the primers was confirmed by non-amplification of DNA extracted from other commonly occurring gastrointestinal nematodes in ruminants. Plasmids were ligated with partial ITS-1 sequence of M. digitatus, serially diluted (hundred fold) and used as standards in the real-time PCR assay. The quantification cycle (Cq) values were plotted against the standard DNA concentration to produce a standard curve. The assay was sensitive enough to detect one plasmid containing the M. digitatus DNA. Clinical application of this assay was validated by testing the DNA extracted from the faeces of naturally infected cattle (n = 40) and buffaloes (n = 25). The results were compared with our standard curve to calculate the quantity of M. digitatus in each faecal sample. The Cq value of the assay depicted a strong linear relationship with faecal DNA content, with a regression coefficient of 0.984 and efficiency of 99%. This assay has noteworthy advantages over the conventional methods of diagnosis because it is more specific, sensitive and reliable.
