Abstract
Prunus africana, a widely utilized medicinal plant in various African ethnic communities, continues to hold significant importance in traditional healing practices. Research has identified phytochemical compounds in this plant, exhibiting diverse pharmacological activities that offer potential for pharmaceutical development. Notably, P. africana is employed in treating various ailments such as wounds, diabetes mellitus, malaria, benign prostatic hyperplasia, chest pain, and prostate cancer. Its pharmacological properties are attributed to a spectrum of bioactive compounds, including tannins, saponins, alkaloids, flavonoids, terpenoids, phytosterols, and fatty acids. Multiple studies have documented the anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, antiandrogenic, antiangiogenic, antioxidant, antidipeptidyl peptidase-4 activity, analgesic, and astringent properties of P. africana extracts. This review offers a comprehensive compilation of ethnomedicinal applications, phytochemical composition, pharmacological effects, and toxicity assessments of P. africana, serving as a foundation for future preclinical and clinical investigations. By understanding its traditional uses and chemical constituents, researchers can target specific medical conditions with greater precision, potentially expediting the development of safe and effective pharmaceuticals. Moreover, toxicity assessments provide crucial insights into the safety profile of P. africana extracts, ensuring the development of safe pharmaceuticals to treat various diseases.

Abstract
Zoonotic diseases are major public health concerns and undeniable threats to human health. Among Zoonotic diseases, zoonotic viruses and prions are much more difficult to eradicate, as they result in higher infections and mortality rates. Several investigations have shown curcumin, the active ingredient of turmeric, to have wide spectrum properties such as anti-microbial, anti-vascular, anti-inflammatory, anti-tumor, anti-neoplastic, anti-oxidant, and immune system modulator properties. In the present study, we performed a comprehensive review of existing in silico, in vitro, and in vivo evidence on the antiviral (54 important zoonotic viruses) and anti-prion properties of curcumin and curcuminoids in PubMed, Google Scholar, Science Direct, Scopus, and Web of Science databases. Database searches yielded 13,380 results, out of which 216 studies were eligible according to inclusion criteria. Of 216 studies, 135 (62.5%), 24 (11.1%), and 19 (8.8%) were conducted on the effect of curcumin and curcuminoids against SARS-CoV-2, Influenza A virus, and dengue virus, respectively. This review suggests curcumin and curcuminoids as promising therapeutic agents against a wide range of viral zoonoses by targeting different proteins and signaling pathways.

Abstract
Herbal medicine is safe and effective in treating various diseases. Traditional herbal medicine plays a tremendous role in treatment of various diseases and accompanying complications, hence herbal medicine requires remarkable attention in further research for the development of numerous active formulations for treatment of health troubles. The plant needs special consideration for development and research of unidentified compound and characterization of novel active molecules that overcome multiple pathological abnormalities. The genus Manilkara contains 135 plants around the world. This overview discusses all the virtues of most important and commonly used plant Manilkara zapota (L.) P. Royen (M. zapota), also known as Sapodilla. M. zapota has various traditional beneficial effects in treatment of various diseases and disorders dating back to prehistoric times and used in ancient traditional system of herbal medicine.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Limited evidence exists on how people living with dementia and their family/unpaid carers navigate care and support in India. AIM This study used case vignettes to illustrate likely pathways to care for dementia, from receiving a diagnosis to long-term support, in India and to highlight gaps and challenges associated with current care provision for persons living with dementia. METHODS As part of the Strengthening Responses to Dementia in Developing Countries (STRiDE) project, and to contribute to an analysis of dementia care policies and systems in India, case vignettes were used to illustrate the diverse situations that people with dementia and their families may experience when seeking care in the Indian context. Eight hypothetical, but realistic cases of people with dementia were created by a multi-disciplinary team with experience in dementia care in India, to map out the likely care journeys of each case. RESULTS Investigating eight diverse care trajectories of people living with dementia highlighted important patterns relevant to the Indian context. We identified delays in dementia diagnosis to be attributed to low awareness of dementia among the general public and medical professionals in addition to a critical shortage of specialist services involved in facilitating dementia diagnosis. Post-diagnosis, support was recognized as limited and associated with considerable out-of-pocket (OOP) costs. Families primarily provide long-term care for people with dementia till end of life. CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS Several steps need to be taken in order to improve dementia care in India. Increasing dementia awareness among both medical professionals and general public is essential. Shortages in dementia specialists can be addressed in part through appropriate task shifting. Lastly, more research is needed to develop evidence-based community interventions to support informal care provision for persons with dementia in India.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND AIM Bombax buonopozense (Bombacaceae) leaves have been used traditionally for arthritis in south-western Nigeria. Therefore, the aim of the study was to investigate the antioxidant and anti-arthritic activity of B. buonopozense in Complete Freund adjuvant-induce arthritic wistar rats. EXPERIMENTAL PROCEDURE The plant leaves methanol extract and fractions were screened for preliminary phytochemicals and brine shrimp lethality was determined. Total phenolic content (TPC), Total flavonoid content (TFC) as well as anti-oxidant activity of the extract and fractions were evaluated using 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH). Cyclophosphamide, gallic acid, and ascorbic acid were used as standards respectively. Anti-arthritic activity of crude methanol extract (BBME) at 100, 200 and 400mg/kg was evaluated in complete Freund's adjuvant (CFA) induced arthritis model in rats. Data were analysed using Graph pad prism version 5, two-way and one-way ANOVA, and Bonferroni post hoc test. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION Phytochemical screening revealed the presence of flavonoids, alkaloids, and phenolics. The brine shrimp lethality assay of the crude extract and fractions gave LC50 value≥1000μg/mL, compared to Cyclophosphamide (LC50=224.7±0.35μg/mL). The BBME had TPC value of 19.8±0.56mg GAE/g, while the TFC of ethyl acetate fraction was the highest (173.5±0.05mg QE/g). The ethyl acetate fraction has the highest antioxidant activity (IC50=20.96±0.23μg/mL) as compared to ascorbic acid (2.8±0.01) and rutin (20.6±9.26μg/mL). BBME significantly reduced the paw circumference. BBME (400mg/kg) prevented biochemical changes to a greater extent than Celecoxib (20mg/kg). Bombax buonopozense leaves could be an effective antiarthritic and holds prospect in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis.

Abstract
ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE India has an extensive reservoir of traditional wisdom and a diverse range of medicinal plants that enrich its heritage. Plants have actively been used for healthcare practices globally since the time immemorial. Medicinal uses of plants have been well recognized in India, evident from plant species documented in different traditional medicinal systems such as Ayurveda (1400-1800 species), Siddha (500-900 species), Unani (400-700 species), Homeopathy (about 372 species), and Sowa-Rigpa (about 250 species), etc. AIM OF THE STUDY: The primary purpose of this review is to provide systematic updated information on thirteen medicinal plants prioritized by the Indian government (providing75 % subsidy on cultivation cost) based on the availability and market demand of these plants. Updated information regarding the traditional uses, phytochemistry, pharmacology, quality control, and conservation status of these plants will help in understanding their pharmacological and commercial importance. This will also help in developing new strategies for their conservation. MATERIAL AND METHODS Online databases such as SciFinder, Web of Science, Pubmed, and Google Scholar were used to collect the electronically available literature on targeted thirteen plants. Also, different Indian government official websites such as AYUSH (https://www.ayush.gov.in); NMPB (National Medicinal Plants Board) (https://nmpb.nic.in); e.charak (https://echarak.in) were used for collecting information related to the amount of subsidy, trade and price related information of these plants. RESULTS To promote medicinal plant cultivation, the Indian government provides subsidies for cultivating some traditionally important medicinal plants. These plants are divided into three categories according to the subsidy provided to farmers, i.e., 30%, 50%, and 75% of the cost of cultivation. Thirteen medicinal plants which are provided 75% subsidy are Aconitum ferox Wall., Aconitum heterophyllum Wall., Aquilaria agallocha Roxb., Berberis aristata DC., Commiphora wightii (Arn.) Bhandari, Nardostachys jatamansi (D.Don) DC., Oroxylum indicum (L.) Benth. ex Kurz, Picrorhiza kurroa Royle ex Benth., Podophyllum hexandrum Royle, Pterocarpus santalinus L.f., Santalum Album L., Saussurea costus (Falc.) Lipsch., and Swertia chirayita (Roxb.) H.Karst. The literature survey reveals the enormous traditional medicinal importance, wide geographical distribution, diverse range of natural products, and broad spectrum of pharmacological activities of these plants. CONCLUSION A comprehensive literature survey revealed that although remarkable progress has been made in isolation, bioactivity evaluation, quality assessment, and conservation, there is still a lot of scope for further scientific interventions. Scientific validation of traditionally claimed medicinal potential is lacking for various bioactivities. Some of the bioactivities are performed just on extracts/fractions, so there is a need for proper phytochemical studies to identify active constituents responsible for the specific bioactivity. Further, quality assessment methods using both targeted and non-targeted tools are required to evaluate the quality of these highly-priced medicinal plants and their adulterants. Ultimately, to encourage the cultivation of these endangered medicinal plant species, it is imperative to implement proper legislation and employ in-situ and ex-situ conservation tools.

Abstract
Background and aim Novel nature of the viral pathogen SARS-CoV-2 and the absence of standard drugs for treatment, have been a major challenge to combat this deadly infection. Natural products offer safe and effective remedy, for which traditional ethnic medicine can provide leads. An indigenous poly-herbal formulation, Kabasura Kudineer from Siddha system of medicine was evaluated here using a combination of computational approaches, to identify potential inhibitors against two anti-SARS-CoV-2 targets - post-fusion Spike protein (structural protein) and main protease (Mpro, non-structural protein). Experimental procedure We docked 32 phytochemicals from the poly-herbal formulation against viral post-fusion Spike glycoprotein and Mpro followed by molecular dynamics using Schrodinger software. Drug-likeness analysis was performed using machine learning (ML) approach and pkCSM. Results The binding affinity of the phytochemicals in Kabasura Kudineer revealed the following top-five bioactives: Quercetin > Luteolin > Chrysoeriol > 5-Hydroxy-7,8-Dimethoxyflavone > Scutellarein against Mpro target, and Gallic acid > Piperlonguminine > Chrysoeriol > Elemol > Piperine against post-fusion Spike protein target. Quercetin and Gallic acid exhibited binding stability in complexation with their respective viral-targets and favourable free energy change as revealed by the molecular dynamics simulations and MM-PBSA analysis. In silico predicted pharmacokinetic profiling of these ligands revealed appropriate drug-likeness properties. Conclusion These outcomes provide: (a) potential mechanism for the anti-viral efficacy of the indigenous Siddha formulation, targeting Mpro and post-fusion Spike protein (b) top bioactive lead-molecules that may be developed as natural product-based anti-viral pharmacotherapy and their pleiotropic protective effects may be leveraged to manage co-morbidities associated with COVID-19.

Abstract
Multidrug-resistant pathogens pose a significant and pressing global health threat. This study explores the therapeutic potential of Indian Traditional Medicine, particularly Yagya, as an innovative antimicrobial strategy rooted in the ancient Rig Veda traditions dating back to 7500 B.C. Our research uses advanced analytical techniques like GC-MS and MALDI-TOF to investigate Yagya's antimicrobial properties against challenging Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. Our study reveals proteomic insights into bacterial responses, including Glutamate Decarboxylase, EF-Tu, and Alpha-Hemolysin. Altered expression levels suggest significant impacts on bacterial survival, shedding light on the multifaceted mechanisms. By showcasing Yagya's remarkable antimicrobial properties, it provides valuable proteomic insights into its mode of action. This study sets stage for future research to harness Indian Traditional Medicine in combatting microbial infections, especially those driven by multidrug-resistant pathogens. This research emphasises the importance of exploring alternative and complementary approaches in modern medicine to combat the global health crisis of antibiotic resistance.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Our study assessed the effectiveness of a traditional bonesetter (TBS) educational program that was designed to increase knowledge, reduce complications, and promote the referral of patients to local hospitals by TBSs when necessary. METHODS From April to December 2021, TBSs from the Northern Sector (the Northern, Savannah, and North East regions) and the Ashanti region of Ghana underwent a 4-day training course that had been designed to teach basic principles of fracture care with the use of local tools. We assessed the levels of knowledge of the TBSs both before and after training. The change in practice of the trained TBSs also was assessed at 6 months using a structured questionnaire and a checklist. RESULTS In total, 157 TBSs were trained in 5 training sessions over a 9-month period. There was an improvement in knowledge in all of the modules of training, with an overall knowledge gain of 19.7% (from 67.2% to 86.9%). At 6 months of follow-up, the practices of TBSs that had most improved were record-keeping, hand hygiene, and patient rehabilitation. As a result of the referral system that was established by the training project, a total of 37 patients were referred to local hospitals in the 6 months following the training. CONCLUSIONS Formal training for TBSs that was provided by a multidisciplinary team with use of a locally developed curriculum and tools was effective in improving the practice and outcomes of treatment by TBSs. There was marked knowledge retention by the trained TBSs at 6 months after training in fracture management. CLINICAL RELEVANCE Education, training, and the establishment of referral pathways between TBSs and local hospitals could improve trauma care in Ghana.

Abstract
Emergent diseases and the pursuit of universal health coverage have incited a renewed interest in the role of traditional medicines (TM) in healthcare. Ayurveda, a widely accepted and practised system in India, is gaining attention globally owing to its holistic and individualised therapeutic approaches. Addressing the contemporary relevance of Ayurveda in healthcare, the article examines concerns surrounding its core principles, educational methodologies, and research validation. Pertinent queries are raised about Ayurveda's relevance today and challenges in aligning Ayurvedic theories with current scientific paradigms and pedagogical dilemmas in Ayurvedic education. Further, we propose solutions, charting a course for Ayurveda's evolution in contemporary healthcare. This includes bridging epistemological differences by integrating modern scientific methodologies with Ayurvedic concepts. Addressing the educational challenges, we recommend comprehensive curriculum revisions considering contemporary healthcare needs. The teaching methodologies are to be enhanced to impart Ayurvedic principles effectively, acknowledging the limitations of ancient anatomical and physiological constructs. Training programs must prioritise equipping teachers with the ability to impart a critical understanding of Ayurveda's philosophy without undermining modern scientific concepts. In conclusion, this article underscores the importance of policy reforms in Ayurvedic curriculum design and teaching methodologies to ensure Ayurveda's sustained relevance and integration within contemporary healthcare systems.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The present study explored the molecular mechanism of herbal (Unani) drug Habb-e-asgandh as anti-tumorigenic adjuvant therapy experimentally in U266 cells and its role in treatment of Multiple myeloma. The formulation of Habb-e-asgandh is investigated alone or as a combinatorial therapy with standard drug lenalidomide to check for its efficacy against U266 myeloma cells for prevention of drug relapse and resistance. METHODS We performed the following assays on singly or in combination of Habb-e-asgandh-Lenalidomide treated U266 cells. The cytotoxicity evaluation done by MTT assay, we studied cell cycle kinetics by Propidium Iodide staining, mitochondrial apoptosis analysis by Annexin V/PI dual staining and JC1 staining assays. Further, anti-oxidative potential was assessed by ORAC assay and cytokine levels estimation of anti-inflammatory (TNF-alpha and IL6) and anti-angiogenic (VEGF and Ang-2) markers were done by ELISA. RESULTS The myeloma U266 cells when treated with Habb-e-asgandh alone or in combination with standard drug lenalidomide showed cytotoxicity in dose dependent manner with promising effects at 0.4 mg/ml (IC30) and 1.5 mg/ml (IC50) inhibitory concentrations. The formulation treated cells showed modulation in cell cycle kinetics patterned by sub Go/G1 population accumulation. Furthermore, it induced mitochondrial apoptosis mainly at half maximal inhibitory concentration and in combinatorial combinations. Significantly elevated oxidative capacities (p<0.05) and reduced levels of angiogenic and pro-inflammatory markers were observed. Multiple mechanism based inhibition by Habb-e-asgandh in co-treatment with lenalidomide against myeloma cells is indicated. Conclusion: Habb-e-asgandh formulation possess anti-tumorigenic efficacy against multiple myeloma. The adjunctive Habb-e-asgandh formulation with standard chemotherapeutic drug may prove to be a potent anti-myeloma agent in interventional therapy for Multiple myeloma if further studied in future avenues.

Abstract
The ethnic communities living near protected areas are critically dependent on medicinal plants for their healthcare. Although several ethnomedicinal studies are available from the Himalaya, quantitative studies focusing on protected areas in this region are largely overlooked. In this study, we aimed to document the ethnomedicinal plants of the Overa-Aru wildlife sanctuary in Kashmir Himalaya. We conducted a systematic field survey in the study area during 2020 - 2021 to collect primary data from 110 participants through semi-structured interviews and questionnaires. The data was analyzed using quantitative indices and Pearson's correlation. We recorded 64 plant species used against 8 human disease categories, including some first-time reports from the region. Asteraceae and Lamiaceae were the most dominant families and herbs were the dominant growth form. The most common plant part used were leaves, and the main method of preparation was decoction. Plant species with the highest relative frequency of citation was Achillea millifolium (0.83). Informant consensus factor for each disease category ranged from 0.94 to 0.97. We found a strong positive correlation between participants' age and citations (r = 0.85), but a negative correlation between the participants' education status and citations (r = - 0.11). Our results revealed that the younger generation possesses the least ethnomedicinal information. We recommend that the species with high use values and fidelity level merit priority in phytochemical and pharmaceutical studies. Our findings highlight that protected areas, besides their prime importance in biodiversity conservation, play a pivotal role in providing the healthcare provisioning ecosystem services to the ethnic communities.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Prediabetes and diabetes involve alterations in glucose homeostasis, including increased fasting blood glucose and impaired glucose tolerance. Berberine has been identified as a potential regulator of glucose homeostasis with implications on the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM). Given a paucity of data on berberine in prediabetes, evaluation of its effect in individuals with prediabetes may prove clinically valuable. OBJECTIVE The present pilot study aimed to investigate the effect of daily oral berberine on markers of glycemic control and insulin resistance among individuals with prediabetes. METHODS A randomized, double-blinded, placebo-controlled trial was conducted for 12 weeks among 34 individuals with prediabetes as defined by the American Diabetes Association (fasting plasma glucose (FPG) between 5.6 and 6.9 mmol/L, glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c) between 5.7% and 6.4%, or 2-hour 75-gram oral glucose tolerance test (2 h-OGTT) between 7.8 and 11.1 mmol/L). HIMABERB® 500 mg was given three times daily to the treatment group, and placebo was administered three times daily to the control group. Glycemic control markers and physical parameters were evaluated for both groups on days 0, 28, 56, and 84. The glycemic control markers assessed included FPG, fasting insulin (FI), 2 h-OGTT, HbA1c, and homeostatic model assessment-insulin resistance (HOMA-IR). The observed outcomes were analyzed using independent t-test statistics to determine the significance of differences over time after treatment initiation and between treatment and control groups. RESULTS Significant decreases in all markers of glycemic control were observed in the treatment group at intermediate time points and the endpoint of the study compared to baseline levels and to the control group. For the treatment group, FPG decreased from 6.75 ± 0.23 mmol/L to 5.33 ± 0.28 mmol/L, FI from 9.81 ± 0.36 to 7.88 ± 0.52 mmol/L, 2 h-OGTT from 10.44 ± 0.52 to 8.12 ± 0.40 mmol/L, HbA1c from 6.40% ± 0.20-5.43% ± 0.21%, and HOMA-IR from 3.61 ± 0.31 to 2.41 ± 0.14. The decreases in glycemic control markers compared to the control group were clinically and statistically significant (p<10- 5). No severe adverse effects, kidney or liver toxicity were detected. CONCLUSION After 12 weeks, berberine (HIMABERB®) intervention in individuals with prediabetes significantly reduced glycemic control markers, with mean FPG and 2 h-OTGG being reduced to below prediabetic thresholds, supporting the investigation of the use of HIMABERB® for delaying progression to diabetes mellitus. Abstract
Aegle marmelos (L.) Correa is an Indian medicinal plant known for its vast therapeutic activities. In Ayurveda, the plant is known to balance "vata," "pitta," and "kapha" dosh. Recent studies suggest anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial, and anti-diabetic potential but lack in defining the dosage over the therapeutic activities. This study aims to determine the chemical profile of Aegle marmelos fruit extract; identification, enrichment, and characterization of the principal active component(s) having anti-inflammatory and anti-diabetic potential. Targeted enrichment of total coumarins, focusing on marmelosin, marmesin, aegeline, psoralen, scopoletin, and umbelliferone, was done from Aegle marmelos fruit pulp, and characterized using advanced high-throughput techniques. In vitro and in silico anti-diabetic and anti-inflammatory activities were assessed to confirm their efficacy and affinity as anti-diabetic and anti-inflammatory agents. The target compounds were also analysed for toxicity by in silico ADMET study and in vitro MTT assay on THP-1 and A549 cell lines. The coumarins enrichment process designed, was found specific for coumarins isolation as it resulted into 48.61% of total coumarins enrichment, which includes 31.2% marmelosin, 8.9% marmesin, 4% psoralen, 2% scopoletin, 1.7% umbelliferone, and 0.72% aegeline. The quantification with HPTLC and qNMR was found to be correlated with the HPLC assay results. The present study validates the potential use of Aegle marmelos as an anti-inflammatory and anti-diabetic agent. Coumarins enriched from the plant fruit have good therapeutic activity and can be used for Phytopharmaceutical ingredient development. The study is novel, in which coumarins were enriched and characterized by a simple and sophisticated methodology.

Abstract
Undoubtedly, the advent of antibiotics in the 19th century had a substantial impact, increasing human life expectancy. However, a multitude of scientific investigations now indicate that we are currently experiencing a phase known as the post-antibiotic era. There is a genuine concern that we might regress to a time before antibiotics and confront widespread outbreaks of severe epidemic diseases, particularly those caused by bacterial infections. These investigations have demonstrated that epidemics thrive under environmental stressors such as climate change, the depletion of natural resources, and detrimental human activities such as wars, conflicts, antibiotic overuse, and pollution. Moreover, bacteria possess a remarkable ability to adapt and mutate. Unfortunately, the current development of antibiotics is insufficient, and the future appears grim unless we abandon our current approach of generating synthetic antibiotics that rapidly lose their effectiveness against multidrug-resistant bacteria. Despite their vital role in modern medicine, medicinal plants have served as the primary source of curative drugs since ancient times. Numerous scientific reports published over the past three decades suggest that medicinal plants could serve as a promising alternative to ineffective antibiotics in combating infectious diseases. Over the past few years, phenolic compounds, alkaloids, saponins, and terpenoids have exhibited noteworthy antibacterial potential, primarily through membrane-disruption mechanisms, protein binding, interference with intermediary metabolism, anti-quorum sensing, and anti-biofilm activity. However, to optimize their utilization as effective antibacterial drugs, further advancements in omics technologies and network pharmacology will be required in order to identify optimal combinations among these compounds or in conjunction with antibiotics.

Abstract
The aim of the present study is to explore the anti-cancer, anti-oxidant, and anti-obesity potential of saffron petal extract (SPE) prepared through the hydro-alcoholic extraction method. Further partitioning was done with a series of polar and non-polar solvents to find out the most potent fraction of SPE against HCC. Organoleptic characterization depicted the color, odor, taste, and texture of the sub-fractions of SPE. Phytochemical, and pharmacognostic screening of these fractions revealed the presence of alkaloids, flavonoids, carbohydrates, glycosides, and phenols. The quantitative assessment demonstrated that the n-butanol fraction showed maximum phenolic (60.8 mg GAE eq./mg EW), and flavonoid (23.3 mg kaempferol eq./mg EW) content. The anti-oxidant study revealed that the n-butanol fraction exhibited the highest radical scavenging activity, as assessed through DPPH and FRAP assay. The results of the comparative cytotoxic potential also showed n-butanol as the best against liver cancer cells (Huh-7), as it has the least IC50 value (462.8 µg/ml). While other extracts viz., chloroform, n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and aqueous fractions have IC50 values as 1088, 733.9, 1043, and 1245 µg/ml, respectively. Additionally, the n-butanol fraction exerted the highest inhibitory potential against α-amylase (92.5%) and pancreatic lipase enzymes (78%), indicating its anti-adipogenesis property. Based on the current finding, we can deduce that the n-butanol fraction of SPE has better cytotoxic, anti-oxidant, and anti-obesity potential than the other fractions. Abstract
This paper aims to illustrate the crucial role of preserving, protecting and managing the environment by Indigenous Peoples in Japan and India. Traditional Knowledge has provided the ability to detect, understand and respond to environmental changes. However, modern science and applied technology often fall short of sustainable practices, acquired through 'centuries of local observation'. Our consumer-centric world has unravelled a sad situation that has contributed to an irretrievable climate crisis. Multilateral instruments, however, have come to the rescue. In this journey, Japan and India have shown the world some constructive initiatives with positive outcomes which could go a long way in achieving the UN-SDGs.

Abstract
Introduction Saussurea costus, an important critically endangered medicinal herb native to the Himalayan region, is commonly used in various ailments, viz. asthma, ulcer, inflammation, and stomach problems. In the international market, the dry roots and essential oil of S. costus has become an important drug. The lack of appropriate fertilizer dose recommendations is one of the limiting factors for its ex-situ conservation and large-scale cultivation, as plant nutrition is vital in determining crop growth and productivity. The study aimed to understand the comparative impact of different levels of fertilizer nutrients on growth, dry root and essential oil yield, and essential oil profile of S. costus. Methods A field experiment was conducted in Himachal Pradesh, India's cold desert region (Lahaul valley), during 2020-21. The experiment comprised three levels of nitrogen (60, 90, and 120 kg ha-1), three levels of phosphorus (20, 40, 60 kg ha-1), and two levels of potassium (20 and 40 kg ha-1) in a factorial randomized block design. Results The fertilizer application had an immense effect on growth attributes, root yield attributes, dry root yield, and essential oil yield over control. The treatment combination N120, P60, and K40 had the largest effect on the plant height, number of leaves per plant, leaf length and width, root length and diameter, dry matter per plant, dry root yield, and essential oil yield. However, the results were at par with the treatment comprising N90, P40, and K20. Dry root yield increased by 108.9%, and essential oil yield increased by 210.3% with fertilizer applications over unfertilized plots. The regression curve shows an increasing trend in dry root yield till N90, P40, and K20; after that, it nearly stabilized. The heat map showed that applying fertilizer significantly affected the chemical constituents of S. costus essential oil. Similarly, the plots fertilized with the highest level of NPK recorded the utmost value of available N, P, and K, as compared to unfertilized plots. Discussion The results emphasize that for sustainable cultivation of S. costus, the application of N90, P40, and K20 combinations is the most suitable one.

Abstract
ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE The use of herbal medicines for prophylaxis, prevention, and treatment of various ailments is rising throughout the world because they are thought to be safer than allopathic treatments, which they are. However, several investigations have documented the toxicity and adverse drug reactions (ADR) of certain formulations and botanicals if not consumed wisely. AIM OF THE STUDY The goal of the current study is to address herbal medication pharmacovigilance (PV) modeling and related considerations for improved patient safety. Also, focus is laid on the comprehensive and critical analysis of the current state of PV for herbal medications at the national and international levels. MATERIALS AND METHODS Targeted review also known as focused literature review methodology was utilized for exploring the data from various scientific platforms such as Science Direct, Wiley Online Library, Springer, PubMed, Google Scholar using "pharmacovigilance, herbal medicine, traditional medicine, ADR, under reporting, herb toxicity, herb interactions" as keywords along with standard literature pertaining to herbal medicines that is published by the WHO and other international and national organizations etc. The botanical names mentioned in the present article were authenticated using World Flora Online database. RESULTS The historical developments paving the way for PV in regulatory setup were also discussed, along with various criteria's for monitoring herbal medicine, ADR of herbs, phytoconstituents, and traditional medicines, herb-drug interactions, modes of reporting ADR, databases for reporting ADR's, provisions of PV in regulatory framework of different nations, challenges and way forward in PV are discussed in detail advocating a robust drug safety ecosystem for herbal medicines. CONCLUSION Despite recent efforts to encourage the reporting of suspected ADRs linked to herbal medicines, such as expanding the programme and adding community pharmacists and other healthcare professionals as recognized reporters, the number of herbal ADR reports received by the regulatory bodies remains comparatively low. Since users often do not seek professional advice or report if they have side effects, under-reporting, is anticipated to be significant for herbal medications. There are inadequate quality control methods, poor regulatory oversight considering herbs used in food and botanicals, and unregulated distribution channels. In addition, botanical identity, traceability of herbs, ecological concerns, over-the-counter (OTC) herbal medicines, patient-physicians barriers requires special focus by the regulatory bodies for improved global safety of herbal medicines.

Abstract
Medicinal plants encompassing a series of bioactive compounds have gained significant importance for use in the treatment of different diseases. Of them, Elaeagnus umbellata Thunb. (Deciduous shrub found in dappled shade, and sunny hedge) exhibits high medicinal value, with a widespread distribution across the Pir Panjal region of the Himalayas. Fruits serve as an excellent source of vitamins, minerals, and other essential compounds that exhibits hypolipidemic, hepatoprotective, and nephroprotective effects. The phytochemical fingerprint of berries revealed them to have a high content of polyphenols (with major proportion of anthocyanins), followed by monoterpenes and vitamin C. Extract of fruits help in regulating the digestion and absorption of glucose and reduces inflammation and oxidative stress. The phytosterols upholding anticoagulant activity serve the purpose of causing decrease in angina and the blood cholesterol levels. Phytochemicals such as eugenol, palmitic acid, and methyl palmitate exhibit potent antibacterial activity against broad range of disease-causing agents. Additionally, a high percentage of essential oils attribute it with the property of being effective against heart ailments. The present study highlights the importance of E. umbellata in traditional medicinal practices, and summarizes the knowledge of its bioactive constituents and a snapshot vision of remarkable biological activities like antimicrobial, antidiabetic, antioxidant, etc towards understanding its role in the development of efficient drug regimens for use in the treatment of different diseases. It also underlines the need to explore the plant on nutritional aspects to strengthen the existing knowledge pertaining to health promoting potential of E. umbellata.

Abstract
Introduction Traditional applications of medicinal plants in healthcare practices provide indication to new therapeutic concepts; hence, their relevance is highly recognized. The objective of the study was to map the traditional healers from the aspirational district and scientific documentation of their healing practices to treat various diseases. Method This was community-based study in tribal subpopulation zone of district Sirohi. The data was collected through field survey and interviews of tribal healers by using semi-structured questionnaire. Result We identified 1015 tribal healers (68% male and 32% female), and all belong to Bhil, Meena, and Garasia communities of district Sirohi. The mean age was 60.45 ± 16.56 years, 82.6% healers were uneducated, and 12.6% had primary education, while 1.2% were graduates. Tribal healers act as primary point of care for tribal community and practiced various treatment modalities including herbal healing (32.7%), diviners (28.9%), child birth attendant (24.7%), and bone setters (13.7%). We recorded 88 herbal healing practices from tribal communities of district Sirohi and scientifically documented. The common diseases treated by tribal healers included wound healing, skin infection, fever, arthritis, pain, diarrhea, cough, and cold. The Fabaceae family was credited with highest number (17%) of plants used by herbal healers. It was also noted that some of the plants used for medicinal purpose are endangered and overexhausted. Conclusion Ethnopharmacological data is the foundation for further validation and value addition of herbal healthcare practices. The mapping of indigenous knowledge holders and scientific documentation of their knowledge might be a crucial step for providing clue regarding new therapeutic molecules.

Abstract
Purpose This study was conducted to explore doctors' perceptions and understanding of the self-medication practices of people living with type 2 diabetes. Methods A qualitative research design incorporating 20 semi-structured, face-to-face interviews were conducted with doctors treating people with type 2 diabetes in Mysuru, India, between July 2019 and January 2020. All the interviews were conducted in doctors' clinics, audio-recorded and thematically analyzed. Results Three themes were identified from these interviews- i) Doctors' beliefs towards their patients' use of traditional medicine and environmental factors influencing prescription practices, ii) Doctors reported little faith in traditional medicines, iii) Limited strategies implemented by doctors to overcome barriers to self-medications. Doctors reported greater belief in western medications over traditional medications and expressed concern that their patients favored traditional medications over western. Multiple factors such as social media, accessibility of healthcare facilities and pill burden influenced adherence to western medications. Also, lack of knowledge about traditional medications and trust in western medications available under government schemes have influenced prescription practices among doctors. It appears that doctors implemented strategies such as educating patients on the detrimental effects of self-medication and insisting on patients to take only western medications to achieve desired blood glucose levels when managing self-medication practices among people with diabetes. Conclusion These results suggest that doctors have limited strategies to implement to prevent self-medication practices among people with diabetes. Increasing knowledge amongst doctors about JAS medication effectiveness and thereby garnering greater trust in generic medications. In addition, efforts should be made to identify the best ways to integrate traditional and western medicine into patient-centered care delivery. Abstract
ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE OF STUDY Pterospermum rubiginosum is an evergreen plant in Western Ghats, India, used by traditional tribal healers due to its excellent biological potential for treating inflammation and pain relief procedures. The bark extract is also consumed to relieve the inflammatory changes at the bone fractured site. The traditional medicinal plant in India have to be characterized for its diverse phytochemical moieties, its interactive multiple target sites, and to reveal the hidden molecular mechanism behind the biological potency. AIM OF THE STUDY The study focussed on plant material characterization, computational analysis (prediction study), toxicological screening (In vivo), and anti-inflammatory evaluation of P. rubiginosum methanolic bark extracts (PRME) in LPS-induced RAW 264.7 cells. MATERIALS AND METHODS The pure compound isolation of PRME and their biological interactions were used to predict the bioactive components, molecular targets, and molecular pathways of PRME in inhibiting inflammatory mediators. The anti-inflammatory effects of PRME extract were evaluated in the lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced RAW264.7 macrophage cell model. The toxicity evaluation of PRME was performed in healthy 30 Sprague-Dawley experimental rats, were randomly divided into five groups for toxicological evaluation for 90 days. The tissue levels of oxidative stress and organ toxicity markers were measured using the ELISA method. Nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR) was performed to characterize the bioactive molecules. RESULTS Structural characterization revealed the presence of vanillic acid, 4-O-methyl gallic acid, E-resveratrol, gallocatechin, 4'-O-methyl gallocatechin, and catechin. Molecular docking of NF-kB exhibited significant interactions with vanillic acid and 4-O-methyl gallic acid with binding energy -351.159 Kcal/Mol and -326.5505 Kcal/Mol, respectively. The PRME-treated animals showed an increase in total GPx and antioxidant levels (SOD and catalase). Histopathological examination revealed no variation in the liver, renal and splenic tissue's cellular pattern. PRME inhibited the pro-inflammatory parameters (IL-1β, IL-6, and TNF-α) in LPS-induced RAW 264.7 cells. The protein level of TNF-α and NF-kB protein expression study brought out a notable reduction and exhibited a good correlation with the gene expression study. CONCLUSION The current study establishes the therapeutic potential of PRME as an effective inhibitory agent against LPS-activated RAW 264.7 cells induced inflammatory mediators. Long-term toxicity evaluation on SD rats confirmed the non-toxic nature of PRME up to 250mg/body weight for 3 months.

Abstract
Developing evidence-based uses of herbal medicines and natural product-based drug discovery are two core aims of ethnopharmacology. This requires an understanding of the medicinal plants and the traditional medical knowledge associated with them which is a basis for cross-cultural comparison. The botanical drugs of traditional medical systems are still not understood well, even for well-known and widely respected traditions like Ayurveda. In this study, a quantitative ethnobotanical analysis was performed on the single botanical drugs included in the Ayurvedic Pharmacopoeia of India (API), presenting an overview on the medicinal plants of Ayurveda from perspectives of plant systematics and medical ethnobotany. Part-I of API includes 621 single botanical drugs, which are sourced from 393 species (323 genera in 115 families). Of these, 96 species yield two or more drugs, together accounting for 238 drugs. Taking the traditional concepts, biomedical uses and the pragmatic disease classification into account, therapeutic uses of these botanical drugs are sorted into 20 categories, which meet primary health demands. The therapeutic uses of the drugs sourced from the same species may differ considerably, but 30 of the 238 drugs are used in highly similar way. The comparative phylogenetic analysis identifies 172 species with high potential for specific therapeutic uses. This medical ethnobotanical assessment for the first time provides a comprehensive understanding on the single botanical drugs in API from the perspective of medical botany using an "etic" (scientist-oriented) approach. This study also highlights the importance of quantitative ethnobotanic methods in understanding traditional medical knowledge.

Abstract
Croton gratissimus (Lavender croton) possesses three distinct secretory structures. These include lepidote and glandular trichomes and non-articulated unbranched laticifers. The lepidote trichomes form a dense indumentum on the abaxial surface of the leaves and canopy the glandular trichomes. Although assumed to be non-glandular, transmission electron microscopy (TEM) indicated high metabolic activity within the stalk and radial cells. Glandular trichomes are embedded in the epidermal layer and consist of a single cell which forms a prominent stalk and dilated head. Laticifers occur on the mid-vein of leaves and are predominantly associated with vascular tissue. In the stems, laticifers are associated with the phloem and pith. Both trichome types and laticifers stained positive for alkaloids, phenolic compounds, and lipids. Positive staining for these compounds in lepidote trichomes suggests their involvement in the production and accumulation of secondary metabolites. These metabolites could provide chemical defense for the plant and potentially be useful for traditional medicine.

Abstract
BACKGROUND This exploratory study was done to assess the multidimensional perfectionism trends among various core and allied health care professionals in a major Indian metropolitan city of western India. Unlike other scales, here we considered both individual and intersubjective components of perfectionism by introducing three trait dimensions - self-oriented perfectionism, other-oriented perfectionism, and socially prescribed perfectionism. MATERIALS AND METHODS A cross-sectional descriptive type of study was conducted with total sample consisting of 500 participants with the main motive of evaluation and comparison of the multidimensional perfectionism among interns of the core and allied health care professionals from fields of medicine, dentistry, ayurveda, and homeopathy residing in the major Indian metropolitan cities of western India. RESULTS This study showed that under the self-oriented domain, highest mean score is of medical faculty (73.97). In other-oriented domain, dental (62.62) and homeopathy (62.38) professionals have almost similar mean. Lowest being of ayurveda (61.65) compared to the highest score of the medical fraternity (67.62). In the socially prescribed domain, medical professionals (65.53) have the highest mean though it is the lowest mean value of the medical faculty compared to other two domains. Chi-square test is applied to the data for the questions among all the three domains. Correlation has been deduced by applying Pearson's correlation to the collected data from the study. The degree of correlation between self-oriented with self-oriented is 1, self-oriented with other-oriented is 0.763, and that of self-oriented with socially oriented is 0.678. CONCLUSION Medical professionals scoring maximum in self-oriented perfectionism compared to other two domains reflect their extreme personal standards. Medical professionals are followed by dental professionals in self oriented perfectionism who are demanded of perfection in their routine practice. Ayurveda and homeopathy professionals scored better in other-oriented and socially prescribed perfectionism attributing to their sentiments of fulfilling the expectations and demands of others.

Abstract
Background: Dawa ul Kurkum (Duk) is a widely used Unani formulation. It consists of seven plant herbs, including stigmas of Crocus sativus L., rhizomes of Nardostachys jatamansi (D.Don) DC., the bark of Cinnamomum cassia (L.) J. Presl., shoot of Cymbopogon jwarancusa (Jones ex Roxb.) Schult., the resin of Commiphora wightii (Arn.) Bhandari, roots of Saussurea lappa (Decne.) Sch.Bip., and bark of Cinnamomum zeylanicum Blume. However, no study has been previously conducted to characterize this formulation. Thus, the present study was designed to carry out the pharmacognostic and phytochemical characterization of Duk. Methods: Duk was prepared following the protocols in Bayaz e Kabeer and The National Formulary of Unani Medicine Part-I. The characterization included organoleptic properties, fluorescence analysis, preliminary phytochemical screening, antioxidant activity, and active constituent profiling using HPTLC. Results: Evaluation of Duk showed the presence of carbohydrates, flavonoids, quinones, glycosides, cardiac glycosides, terpenoids, phenols, coumarin, steroids, and phytosterols. The total phenolic and flavonoid content was 5.75 ± 0.23 mg GAE/g and 10 ± 0.18 mg QUE/g, respectively. HPTLC of Duk showed the presence of p-coumaric acid, cinnamaldehyde, citral, crocin, isovaleric acid, guggulsterone, and dehydrocostus lactone. Conclusions: Our findings supported the use of Duk as a conventional medicine, and these results could be used as a reference for the standardization of Duk.

Abstract
Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are the leading cause of mortality worldwide. Terminalia arjuna (Roxb. ex DC.) Wight & Arnot of the Combretaceae family is one of the most frequently approved and utilized medicinal trees in the traditional medicinal system, which was used for the treatment of a variety of diseases, including cardiovascular disorders. The present study aims to identify phytochemicals from T. arjuna, that do not exhibit any toxicity and have significant cardioprotective activity using an in-silico technique. Four different cardiovascular proteins, namely human angiotensin receptor (PDB ID: 4YAY), P38 mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK, PDB ID: 4DLI), 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-coenzyme A (HMG-Co A) reductase (PDB ID: 1HW9), and human C-reactive protein (PDB ID: 1B09), were used as target proteins to identify potential inhibitors using a virtual screening of the phytochemicals in T. arjuna revealed casuarinin as a potential inhibitor of all selected target proteins with strong binding energy. Furthermore, MD simulations for a 100 ns time scale also revealed that most of the key protein contacts of all target proteins were retained throughout the simulation trajectories. Binding free energy calculations using the MM-GBSA approach also support a strong inhibitory effect of casuarinin on target proteins. Casuarinin's effective binding to these proteins lays the groundwork for the development of broad-spectrum drugs as well as the understanding of the underlying mechanism against cardiovascular diseases through in vivo and clinical studies.

Abstract
The excessive accumulation of reactive oxygen species (ROS)/free radicals can lead to abnormal oxidation of biomolecules such as proteins, lipids, fats, carbohydrates and nucleic acids in human organisms. Accordingly, endogenous oxidative stress induces the progressive development of various chronic diseases like rheumatoid arthritis, cancers, cardiovascular risks, diabetes, digestive ulcers, hypertension, obesity, neurological disorders, and age-related complications. Therefore, anti-oxidant defense mechanisms are needed to control/prevent the unbalanced molecular oxidative damage. Indeed, the oxidative stress arises from both endogenous and exogenous factors such as smoking, alcohol, medications, air pollution, sunlight, lifestyle disorders, and metabolic processes. Therefore, consumption of fruits, vegetables, grains, beverages, and leafy vegetables rich in antioxidants may inhibit or treat oxidative damage accompanying diseases. From this aspect, dietary foods are rich in various antioxidant metabolites such as flavonoids, vitamin A, C, E, phenolic acids, curcumin, stilbenes, anthocyanins, etc., which promote healthy life and nutritional benefits. Additionally, various studies have also proven that foods rich in antioxidants interact with reactive species to prevent cell damage(s) or therapeutic pathways for diseases. Although, there are various myths about the antioxidant mechanism(s), the optimal dosage of antioxidants can show beneficial pharmacological activities against various molecular oxidation paths.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Sarcocephalus latifolius is one of the most used plants in West African traditional medicine to treat malaria. OBJECTIVE The aim is to establish a strategy to control the quality of herbal preparations made from S. latifolius. METHOD A UHPLC-PDA method was developed for the determination and quantification of the two main bioactive compounds (angustoline and strictosamide) in various parts of the plant. Additionally, an LC-QToF with electrospray ionization method is described for the identification and confirmation of compounds in samples of different parts of the plant. RESULTS With the UHPLC-PDA method, separation was achieved within 5 min using a C18 column stationary phase at a temperature of 45°C and a gradient system with a mobile phase of water and acetonitrile, both containing 0.1% formic acid. The method was validated for linearity, accuracy, precision (repeatability and intermediate precision), limit of detection (LOD), and limit of quantification (LOQ). The LOD and LOQ of angustoline were found to be 0.3 and 0.8 μg/ml, respectively, and those of strictosamide were found to be 0.1 and 0.3 μg/ml, respectively. Using the LC-QToF method, 90 secondary metabolites, including four isolated compounds from the plant's roots, were identified from leaf, bark, and root samples of S. latifolius. CONCLUSION This work is the first to propose a strategy to control the quality of herbal preparations made from S. latifolius. The developed method allows the quantification of the main bioactive compounds and the established chemical profile allows to distinguish the plant from any other species.

Abstract
A new andrographolide-based terminal alkyne 3 was synthesized in good yield from deoxy-andrographolide 2, obtained from a natural compound andrographolide 1, which in turn was isolated from the leaves of the plant Andrographis paniculata. Copper(I)-catalyzed azide-alkyne cycloaddition reaction of alkyne 3 with azido-sugars 4a-f furnished a library of andrographolide-fastened triazolyl glycoconjugates 5a-f in good yields. The structures of these semisynthetic andrographolide derivatives were established by Fourier transform infrared, NMR, and mass spectroscopy. The compounds 5a-f were further evaluated against Alzheimer's disease (AD) using a scopolamine (SCOP)-induced memory impairment mice model. It was observed that antioxidant and anticholinesterase properties of these compounds contribute significantly toward their remarkable potential to improve cognitive functioning.

Abstract
Background Siddha Medicine system is one among the oldest traditional systems of medicines in India and has its entire literature in the Tamil language in the form of poems (padal in tamil). Even if the siddha poems are available in public domain, they are not known to other parts of the world because, researchers of other languages are not able to understand the contents of these poems and there exists a language barrier. Hence there is a need to develop a system to extract structured information from these texts to facilitate searching, comparing, analysis and implementing. Objective This study aimed at creating a comprehensive digital database system that systematically stores information from classical Siddha poems and to develop a web portal to facilitate information retrieval for comparative and logical analysis of Siddha content. Methods We developed an expert system for siddha (eSS) that can collect, annotate classical siddha text, and visualizes the pattern in siddha medical prescriptions (Siddha Formulations) that can be useful for exploration in this system using modern techniques like machine learning and artificial learning. eSS has the following three aspects: (1) extracting data from Siddha classical text (2) defining the annotation method and (3) visualizing the patterns in the medical prescriptions based on multiple factors mentioned in the Siddha system of medicine. The data from three books were extracted, annotated and integrated into the developed eSS database. The annotations were used for analyzing the pattern in the drug prescriptions as a pilot work. Results Overall, 110 medicinal preparations from 2 Siddhars (Agathiyar and Theran) were extracted and annotated. The generated annotations were indexed into the data repository created in eSS. The system can compare and visualize individual and multiple prescriptions to generate a hypothesis for siddha practitioners and researchers. Conclusions We propose an eSS framework using standard siddha terminologies created by WHO to have a standard expert system for siddha. This proof-of-concept work demonstrated that the database can effectively process and visualize data from siddha formulations which can help students, researchers from siddha and other various fields to expand their research in herbal medicines.

Abstract
In this review article, we present the updated evidence of therapeutic applications of fucoidan (a seaweed polysaccharide) and its novel potential to treat infectious diseases such as coronavirus disease (COVID-19). Because of their many biological activities, seaweeds have been identified as a rich and useful source of bioactive chemicals. Sulfated polysaccharides from the sea are considered a source of physiologically active chemicals that might be used in medication development. Antitumor, antiviral, antioxidant, antibacterial, anticoagulant, and immune-inflammatory properties have all been described for these compounds. By interfering at various phases of viral infection, marine sulfated polysaccharide has a virucidal effect. As a result, it opens the door to the development of antiviral treatments. Virus entry into host cells is an initial process, avoiding this type of entry makes any precautionary measure effective. The inhibitory action of certain marine sulfated polysaccharides against coronavirus was tested, and fucoidan, iota-carrageenan, and sea cucumber sulfated polysaccharides all showed a substantial antiviral impact. Fucoidan is one of the useful sulfated polysaccharides that has been widely studied and explored in various research. There are different sources of fucoidans, which have been used in the treatment of viral infection. Additionally, we highlight the mechanism of action of fuocidan against COVID-19. Hence, we could suggest that COVID-19 might be prevented and treated using these sulfated polysaccharides. This review thus highlights ample evidence to support the hypothesis that a large number of drugs have been developed from powerful compounds isolated from marine seaweeds.

Abstract
The present research signifies the anti-obesity potential of Bougainvillea spectabilis Willd. and its techno-functional properties. Bougainvillea spectabilis Willd. is a medicinal plant that belongs to the Nyctaginaceae family. Studies have reported the various bioactive compounds such as flavonoids, phenols, alkaloids, saponins, tannins, etc., in Bougainvillea spectabilis Willd., responsible for its biological properties such as antibacterial, antidiabetic, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antiviral, antifungal, antipyretic, and anticarcinogenic. In this article, the techno-functional properties of the plant, such as tapped density, bulk density, Hausner ratio, Carr index, angle of repose, water absorption and solubility index, swelling capacity, foaming capacity, foam stability, and oil absorption capacity were discussed. The plant’s total phenolic and flavonoid content was 2.9 mg GAE/g and 12.3 mg QE/g, respectively. The plant’s antioxidant activity (89.9%) was estimated using the DPPH assay. The components of the plant powder were confirmed by FTIR analysis. Lipase (IC50: 68.21) and amylase inhibition assay (IC50: 60.19) significantly confirmed the anti-obesity potential of the plant. The highest glucose retention time (2.1 mg/dL) was observed at 120 min.

Abstract
During a previous study that identified plants used in traditional medicine in Togo to treat infectious diseases, Daniellia oliveri was specifically reported to treat intertrigo and candidiasis. Consequently, to explore the anti-infective potential of this plant, we investigated the antibacterial and the antifungal activity of the plant's parts, as well as the cytotoxic activities of raw extracts and subsequent fractions, and the chemical composition of the most active fractions. In order to evaluate the antimicrobial activity, MICs were determined using the broth dilution method. Then, the most active fractions were evaluated for cytotoxicity by using normal human cells (MRC-5 cells) via the MTT assay. Finally, the most active and not toxic fractions were phytochemically investigated by GC-MS. Interestingly, all the raw extracts and fractions were active against the bacteria tested, with MICs ranging from 16 µg/mL to 256 µg/mL, while no antifungal activity was observed at 256 µg/mL, the highest tested concentration. Moreover, no toxicity was observed with most of the active fractions. The subsequent chemical investigation of the most interesting fractions led to identifying terpenes, phytosterols, phenolic compounds, and fatty acids as the main compounds. In conclusion, this study demonstrated that D. oliveri possesses valuable antibacterial activities in accordance with traditional use.

Abstract
Traditional herbal medicine has been playing an essential role in primary health care globally. The aim of this work is to present an overview of traditional herbal medicine research productivity over the past years. The data was accessed from the Scopus database (www.scopus.com), while VOSviewer.Var1.6.6, Bibliometrix, and R studio were used for further analysis of the obtained data. The results showed that researches on traditional herbal medicine increased annually after 1990, followed by a corresponding increase in global citations during the period, with a total of 22,071 authors contributing to all the publications. Yiling Wang of Shanghai Institute of Drug Control, Shanghai, China was the most productive author (TNP = 303), while Journal of “Evidence-based Complementary and Alternative Medicine”, and “Journal of Ethnopharmacology” were the top ranked journals, respectively. Also, China, Japan, and India were found to be the top Corresponding Author's Countries for researches on traditional herbal medicine, as Beijing University of Chinese Medicine, China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences and China Medical University were top affiliations. Moreover, National Natural Science Foundation of China, National Key Research and Development Program of China, Ministry of Science and Technology of the People's Republic of China, and Ministry of Science and Technology, Taiwan were top funding agencies, with more than 100 documents. The bibliometric research study has revealed an annual increasing trend in traditional herbal medicine, while also revealing that the topmost ranked authors and funding agencies were from Asia especially China.

Abstract
Ethnopharmacological relevance: The past couple of decades have witnessed the global resurgence of medicinal plants in the field of herbal-based health care. Increased consumption of medicinal plants and their derivative products is the major cause of the adulteration issues in herbal industries. As a result, the quality of herbal products is affected by spurious and unauthorized raw materials. Recent development in molecular plant identification using DNA barcodes has become a robust methodology to identify and authenticate the adulterants in herbal samples. Hence, rapid and accurate identification of medicinal plants is the key to success for the herbal industry. Aim of the study: This paper provides a comprehensive review of the application of DNA barcoding and advanced technologies that have emerged over the past 10 years related to medicinal plant identification and authentication and the future prospects of this technology. Materials and methods: Information on DNA barcodes was compiled from scientific databases (Google Scholar, Web of Science, SciFinder and PubMed). Additional information was obtained from books, Ph.D. thesis and MSc. Dissertations. Results: Working out an appropriate DNA barcode for plants is challenging; the single locus-based DNA barcodes (rbcL, ITS, ITS2, matK, rpoB, rpoC, trnH-psbA) to multi-locus DNA barcodes have become the successful species-level identification among herbal plants. Additionally, multi-loci have become efficient in the authentication of herbal products. Emerging advances in DNA barcoding and related technologies such as next-generation sequencing, high-resolution melting curve analysis, meta barcodes and mini barcodes have paved the way for successful herbal plant/samples identification. Conclusion: DNA barcoding needs to be employed together with other techniques to check and rationally and effectively quality control the herbal drugs. It is suggested that DNA barcoding techniques combined with metabolomics, transcriptomics, and proteomics could authenticate the herbal products. The invention of simple, cost-effective and improved DNA barcoding techniques to identify herbal drugs and their associated products of medicinal value in a fool-proof manner will be the future thrust of Pharmacopoeial monograph development for herbal drugs.

Abstract
Medicinal plants have been used as traditional herbal medicines in the treatment of various types of diseases. However, the increased demand for these plants highlights the importance of conservation specifically for endangered species. Significant advancements in next-generation sequencing (NGS) technologies have accelerated medicinal plant research while reducing costs and time demands. NGS systems enable high-throughput whole genome sequencing as well as direct RNA sequencing and transcriptome analysis. The sequence data sets created can be used in a variety of areas of study, including biodiversity conservation, comparative genomics, transcriptomic analysis, single cell mining, metagenomics, epigenetics, molecular marker discovery, multi genome sequencing, and so on. Commercial sequencing service providers are constantly working to improve technologies to address bioinformatics problems in NGS data analysis. Several genome sequencing projects on medicinal plants have been completed recently and a few more are in the works. In some medicinal plants, massive NGS-based data has been developed. In the present review, we have attempted to briefly discuss advancements in NGS technology on medicinally essential plants in India. The review will also provide ideas for applying NGS technologies for exploring genomes of various endangered medicinal plants whose genome sequences are not normally available and thus provides valuable insights for the conservation of these vulnerable species.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Hypertension is a major cardiovascular risk factor that affects most countries including those of Africa. Although Carissa edulis Vahl, Diodia scandens Sw. and Cleome gynandra L. are traditionally used in Benin as antihypertensive treatments with some efficacy mentioned by the local population, their biological activity on the cardiovascular system remains poorly studied. AIM The study investigated the vasoreactivity of the plants and assessed the underlying mechanisms using isolated arteries. STUDY DESIGN Aqueous-ethanolic extracts of aerial parts of C. edulis, D. scandens and C. gynandra were prepared by maceration before being subjected to multi-step liquid-liquid fractionation with solvents of increasing polarity. The vasoreactivity of the extracts and fractions were assessed on isolated porcine coronary artery and rat aorta using organ chambers, the role of nitric oxide (NO) using NG-nitro-L-arginine (NO synthase inhibitor), prostanoids using indomethacin (cyclooxygenases inhibitor) and endothelium-dependent hyperpolarization using TRAM-34 plus UCL 1684 (inhibitors of calcium-dependent K+ channels), and the vascular uptake of polyphenols using Neu reagent. RESULTS The aqueous-ethanolic crude extract of C. edulis (CECE) induced potent relaxations that were exclusively endothelium-dependent and more pronounced than those to D. scandens and C. gynandra. The n-butanolic fraction of C. edulis (CEBF) was more active than the cyclohexane, dichloromethane, and ethyl acetate fractions. The relaxation induced by CECE and CEBF were inhibited by NG-nitro-L-arginine and affected neither by TRAM-34 plus UCL 1684 nor by indomethacin. CEBF induced sustained endothelium-dependent relaxations for at least 60 min, and inhibited, in a concentration-dependent manner, contractions to KCl, CaCl2, U46619 and serotonin in rings with endothelium. Analysis of CEBF by LCHRMS indicated the presence of polyphenols, terpenes, and alkaloids. Exposure of coronary artery and aorta rings to CEBF caused the accumulation of polyphenols predominantly in the endothelium. CONCLUSION C. edulis leaf extract induced pronounced endothelium-dependent relaxations and inhibited contractile responses by stimulating the endothelial formation of NO. LCHRMS analysis of the most active fraction, the butanolic fraction, revealed the presence of numerous compounds including polyphenols, terpenes, and alkaloids. The polyphenols of CEBF accumulated preferentially in the endothelium of the arterial wall. Thus, these observations support the folkloric use of C. edulis in hypertension.

Abstract
Objectives The Barak Valley is well known for its rich diversity of medicinal plants.
Ethnomedicinal practices are prominent among Barak Valley’s major and
minor ethnic groups. This systemic review focuses on traditionally used
medicinal plants found in the Barak Valley as reported in different
ethnobotanical surveys. Methods We searched various databases, including PubMed, Web of Science, and Google
Scholar, to find ethnomedicinal surveys conducted in the Barak Valley. The
search was performed using different terms, including ethnomedicinal survey,
folk medicine, indigenous knowledge, and Barak Valley. Potential articles
were identified following the exclusion and inclusion criteria. Results A total of eight ethnobotanical surveys were included in this study. We
identified a total of 216 plant species belonging to 167 genera and 87
families, which are widely used by the ethnic communities who live in the
rural areas of Barak Valley for the treatment of various diseases and
ailments. Conclusion Folk medicine is the result of decades of accumulated knowledge and practices
by people who live in rural communities based on their needs and provides an
important source of information to assist the search for new
pharmaceuticals. Therefore, available information on traditional medicinal
plants needs to be explored scientifically to find effective and alternative
treatments for different diseases.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES The Barak Valley is well known for its rich diversity of medicinal plants. Ethnomedicinal practices are prominent among Barak Valley's major and minor ethnic groups. This systemic review focuses on traditionally used medicinal plants found in the Barak Valley as reported in different ethnobotanical surveys. METHODS We searched various databases, including PubMed, Web of Science, and Google Scholar, to find ethnomedicinal surveys conducted in the Barak Valley. The search was performed using different terms, including ethnomedicinal survey, folk medicine, indigenous knowledge, and Barak Valley. Potential articles were identified following the exclusion and inclusion criteria. RESULTS A total of eight ethnobotanical surveys were included in this study. We identified a total of 216 plant species belonging to 167 genera and 87 families, which are widely used by the ethnic communities who live in the rural areas of Barak Valley for the treatment of various diseases and ailments. CONCLUSION Folk medicine is the result of decades of accumulated knowledge and practices by people who live in rural communities based on their needs and provides an important source of information to assist the search for new pharmaceuticals. Therefore, available information on traditional medicinal plants needs to be explored scientifically to find effective and alternative treatments for different diseases.

Abstract
Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) is an uncommon condition marked by elevated pulmonary artery pressure that leads to right ventricular failure. The majority of drugs are now been approved by FDA for PAH, however, several biopharmaceutical hindrances lead to failure of the therapy. Various novel drug delivery systems are available in the literature from which lipid-based nanoparticles i.e. solid lipid nanoparticle is widely investigated for improving the solubility and bioavailability of drugs. In this paper, the prototype phytoconstituents used in pulmonary arterial hypertension have limited solubility and bioavailability. We highlighted the novel concepts of SLN for lipophilic phytoconstituents with their potential applications. This paper also reviews the present state of the art regarding production techniques for SLN like High-Pressure Homogenization, Micro-emulsion Technique, and Phase Inversion Temperature Method, etc. Furthermore, toxicity aspects and in vivo fate of SLN are also highlighted in this review. In a nutshell, safer delivery of phytoconstituents by SLN added a novel feather to the cap of successful drug delivery technologies.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES To evaluate the safe dose range of Clerodendrum viscosum (C. viscosum) and Leucas indica (L. indica) ethanolic leaf extracts of acute and chronic oral toxicity study in Swiss Albino mice. MATERIALS AND METHODS The Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development guideline was used for the toxicity studies. C. viscosum and L. indica plant extract were administered orally in a single dose of 2000 mg/kg, and general behavior, adverse effects, and mortality were studied for 72 h. For the chronic toxicity study, both plant extracts were administered orally to a separate set of animals at 300 mg/kg doses for 90 days. Animals body weight was taken out, blood and gastric juice were collected for biochemical parameters, and vital organs were collected for histopathological studies after sacrificing test and control group animals. RESULTS Both in acute and chronic toxicity assay, there was no significant alteration in body weight, physical signs, symptoms, hematological, biochemical parameters, and body organ weights compared to the normal group. The liver, kidney, and stomach histology did not show any drug-induced lesion. CONCLUSIONS The result indicates that the oral administration of C. viscosum and L. indica ethanolic plant extract did not cause any toxicological effects. Hence it could be regarded as a safe natural product for therapeutic use.

Abstract
Phytochemicals derived from Cydonia oblonga have been investigated for their anti-oxidant and anti-cancer activities in various cancer cell lines. The reported bioactive compounds are evaluated in silico to develop a novel antagonist against pTEN (phosphatase and tensin homolog) and HBx (hepatitis B X-interacting protein) to target hepatocellular carcinoma. Lower expression of pTEN or higher expression of HBx represents the progression of hepatocellular carcinoma. This research is intended to identify the best candidate who interacts with our target proteins (pTEN and HBx) from the quince seeds by using computational methodologies. The ternary structures of the proteins and phytochemicals are retrieved from the online databases (RCSB and PubChem). The drug likeness analysis of the reported seventeen compounds was done, but only five follow the selection criteria. ADMET profiling of these five compounds was done, followed by docking analysis and molecular dynamics study of the best complexes to determine the stability of the complexes. A docking study revealed that caffeoylquinic acids (CQA) derivatives have the significant inhibitory potential of 3-O-caffeoylquinic acid (3CQA) and 5-O-caffeoylquinic acid (5CQA) with binding affinity of - 7.53 and - 7.49 against pTEN and - 5.94 and - 6.01 against HBx in comparison to the doxorubicin. The average root mean square deviation and root mean square fluctuation values for protein-ligand complexes were found quite stable compared to the standard, while parameters like gyration and SASA (solvent-accessible surface area) supported the complexes significant binding and stability. The results obtained from the evaluation show that 3CQA and 5CQA have the best stability, especially with the pTEN protein target. Hence, these compounds have to be considered for detailed experimental studies to understand their biological function against hepato-carcinoma.

Abstract
Azadirachta indica (Neem) is a large tree that is native to India and is traditionally used due to its several properties, mainly to treat skin diseases, as well as its “herbicidal” activity. Its bark, leaves, seeds, fruits and flowers are widely used in medicinal treatment due to the presence of active secondary metabolites with biological effects, mainly limonoids and tetranortriterpenoids, such as azadirachtin. Thus, A. indica was studied in a variety of conditions, such as anticancer, antiseptic, anti-inflammatory and chemopreventive agents, as well as a biopesticide. Furthermore, differentiated cell tissue in A. indica cultivation was reported to produce active metabolites for different purposes. However, only a few studies have been developed regarding its potential use in cosmetics. For instance, most studies explained the antimicrobial properties in health conditions, such as acne, dandruff and personal health care. Here, we summarized not only the most common cosmetic claims to treat acne but also mitigating other skin disorders related to inflammatory and oxidant processes in recent in vivo studies and patents to aid researchers and industrialists to select A. indica derivatives as novel cosmetic ingredients.

Abstract
COVID19 has emerged as one of the worst pandemics in the history of mankind. Several vaccines have been approved by different government agencies worldwide, but data on their efficacy and safety are limited, and distribution remains a massive challenge. As per WHO, personal immunity is vital for protection against COVID19. Earlier, Vitamin C-mediated pathways have been shown to play critical role in boosting immunity attributed to its antioxidant properties. Recently, the involvement of such pathways in protection against COVID19 has been suggested. The controlled doses of Vitamin C administered through intravenous (IV) injections are being studied for determining its role in the prognosis of COVID19. In this article, we have discussed the potential role of Vitamin C in the management in COVID19 patients and presented recent clinical trials data. Additionally, we have elaborated the possibility of administering Vitamin C through inhalers in order to achieve local high concentration and the challenges of such approach.

Abstract
Fractionation of essential oils is technically challenging due to enormous scaffold diversities and structural complexities as well as difficulties in the implementation of the fractionation in the gas phase. Packing beads with multi-dimensional hierarchical nanostructures have been developed herein to pack fractional columns for atmospheric distillations. Activated alumina beads were coated with a porous TiO2 thin film. Growth of Cu-BTC (benzene-1,3,5-tricarboxylate) crystals in resultant porous surfaces leads to the generation of new nanopores and increased metal centers for differential coordination with diverse components of essential oils. The TiO2 thin film is not only an integral part of the composites but also induces the oriented growth of Cu-BTC metal organic framework (MOF) crystals through coordinative interactions. These Al2O3@TiO2@Cu-BTC MOF beads show very strong absorptive capability for major components of essential oils, except for a single cyclic ether eucalyptol with steric hindrances. The eucalyptol was fractionated by using the column packed with those modified alumina beads from raw materials of Artemisia argyi, and Rosmarinus officinalis with high purities up to 96% and 93%, respectively.

Abstract
Introduction:
Zanthoxylum rhetsa fruits, a common spice in many cuisines, have proven to have a good therapeutic potential and are routinely used in food, medicine, and commerce. The present study was conducted to screen the in vitro antileukemic and antimalarial activities of the methanolic extract of Z. rhetsa fruits and conduct mechanistic studies for antileukemic activity.
Methods:
Methanol extract was prepared by maceration process and standardised with lupeol as a marker using HPLC. MTT and SRB assays were used to establish the cytotoxicity of the extract against L929 and leukemic cell lines (Jurkat, K562, and HL-60). Amount of ROS in cell lines was detected by flow cytometry using 2',7'-dichlorodihydrofluorescin diacetate. Apoptosis on HL-60 was detected by Annexin-V/PI dual staining assay through cell cycle analysis and gel electrophoresis. In vitro antimalarial activity was conducted on Plasmodium falciparum CQ sensitive 3D7 strains according to the WHO 2001 guidelines.
Results:
The methanol extract contained 1.03% of lupeol. Potent antileukemic activity (IC50 <10 μg/mL) was observed against HL-60 in comparison to K562 and Jurkat cell lines. The extract induced apoptosis in cancer cells in the proliferative and mitotic phase without DNA fragmentation. Therefore, the antileukemic activity exhibited by the extract could be attributed to the increased oxidative stress generated in cancer cells. Fruits also exhibited good antioxidant activity against normal cells, thus proving beneficial as a cytoprotective agents. Promising antimalarial activity (IC50 = 16.21 μg/mL) with high selectivity against malarial parasites was exhibited by the fruits.
Conclusion:
Thus, the fruits of Z.rhetsa can be used as an adjuvant therapy to reduce the side effects and resistance associated with chemotherapy and can be a potential candidate for drug discovery research in the areas of cancer and parasitic infection.
