Abstract
Chronic liver disease (CLD) is the major cause of mortality and morbidity, particularly in developing countries. Although there has been a significant advancement in the identification and treatment of liver diseases over time, clinical results are not satisfactory in advanced liver disease. Thus, it is crucial to develop certain technology for early detection, and curative therapies and to investigate the molecular mechanisms behind CLD's pathogenesis. The study of exosomes in CLD is a rapidly developing field. They are structurally membrane-derived nano vesicles released by various cells. In CLD, exosomes released from injured hepatic cells affect intercellular communication, creating a microenvironment conducive to the illness's development. They also carry liver cell-specific proteins and miRNAs, which can be used as diagnostic biomarkers and treatment targets for various liver diseases. End-stage liver disease can only be treated by a liver transplant, however, the low availability of compatible organs, high expenses of treatment, and surgical complications significantly lower patient survival rates. Early diagnosis and therapeutic intervention of CLD positively affect the likelihood of curative treatment and high patient survival rates. Considering the possibility that exosomes could be employed as tools for disease diagnostics and clinical intervention, The current study briefly summarizes the roles of exosomes and their cargo in diagnosing and treating liver diseases.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Looking for undiscovered blood markers of liver fibrosis and steatosis still remains an issue worth exploring. There are still plenty of unresolved issues related to the actual role of hematological indices as potential markers of liver function.
AIM To study red blood cell distribution width (RDW), RDW-to-platelet ratio (RPR) and RDW-to-lymphocyte ratio (RLR) in alcohol-related liver cirrhosis (ALC) and metabolic-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD).
METHODS The study group was composed of 302 people: 142 patients with ALC and 92 with MAFLD; 68 persons were included as controls. RDW, RPR and RLR were measured in each person. Indirect and direct parameters of liver fibrosis were also assessed [aspartate transaminase to alkaline transaminase ratio, aspartate transaminase to platelet ratio index (APRI), fibrosis-4 (FIB-4), gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase to platelet ratio (GPR), procollagen I carboxyterminal propeptide, procollagen III aminoterminal propeptide, transforming growth factor-α, platelet-derived growth factor AB, laminin]. MELD score in ALC patients and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) fibrosis score together with BARD score were obtained in the MAFLD group. The achieved results were compared to controls. Then a correlation between assessed markers was done. Diagnostic value of each investigated parameter and its suggested cut-off in the research group were evaluated with area under the curve (AUC).
RESULTS RDW, RPR and RLR values turned out to be significantly higher in ALC and MAFLD groups compared to controls (ALC: P < 0.0001; NAFLD: P < 0.05, P < 0.0001 and P < 0.0001, respectively). RPR correlated positively with MELD score (P < 0.01) and indirect indices of liver fibrosis (FIB-4 and GPR; P < 0.0001) in ALC patients; negative correlations were found between PDGF-AB and both: RDW and RPR (P < 0.01 and P < 0.0001, respectively). RPR correlated positively with NAFLD fibrosis score and APRI (P < 0.0001) in the MAFLD group; a positive relationship was observed between RDW and FIB-4, too (P < 0.05). AUC values and suggested cut-offs for RDW, RPR and RLR in ALC patients were: 0.912 (> 14.2%), 0.965 (> 0.075) and 0.914 (> 8.684), respectively. AUC values and suggested cut-offs for RDW, RPR and RLR in MAFLD patients were: 0.606 (> 12.8%), 0.724 (> 0.047) and 0.691 (> 6.25), respectively.
CONCLUSION RDW with its derivatives appear to be valuable diagnostic markers in patients with ALC. They can also be associated with a deterioration of liver function in this group.

Abstract
Hepatic regenerative nodules are reactive hepatocellular proliferations that develop in response to liver injury. Giant hepatic regenerative nodules of 10 cm or more are extremely rare and have only been reported in patients with biliary atresia or Alagille syndrome. A 50-year-old man presented with a pathologically confirmed giant 11.3×9.4×11.2 cm hepatic regenerative nodule and hepatitis B virus-related cirrhosis. Imaging of intrahepatic nodule included mild hyperenhancement in the portal phase of contrast-enhanced CT and the hepatobiliary phase in the gadoxetic acid-enhanced MRI scan, as well as the portal vein crossing through sign in the setting of liver cirrhosis. This case highlights the imaging characteristics of giant hepatic regenerative nodules in hepatitis cirrhosis.

Abstract
Objective Imaging endothelial cell behaviour under physiological conditions, particularly those associated with chronic fibrotic pathologies, is an incredibly challenging endeavour. While short-term assessments (hours) can be achieved with techniques such as intravital microscopy, vascular changes often occur over days and weeks which is unfeasible with current imaging techniques. These challenges are exemplified within the liver where liver sinusoidal endothelial cells (LSECs) are known to undergo dramatic changes termed endothelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EndMT) during fibrotic liver disease. Despite the established presence of EndMT in liver disease, the inaccessibility of viable liver tissue, and simplicity of 2D culture techniques has meant, the role of EndMT during disease progression remains largely undetermined. This study describes the development of novel fluorescent EndMT reporters to identify, track, and characterise the migratory behaviour of EndMT cells. We show that liver-on-a-chip (LOAC) platforms provide a flexible, optically accessible, and physiologically relevant microenvironment to study the vascular dynamics of EndMT during liver disease. Methods Identification, creation, and application of an EndMT-specific fluorescent reporter construct (EndMT-Rep). Transduction of EC using lentiviral packaged CNN1-eGFP construct as an inducible EndMT-Rep (CNN1-Rep) to 2D, 3D, and 4D imaging techniques for fixed and live cell imaging. Combined application of live and fixed imaging technologies to measure EndMT using CNN1-Rep on LOAC platform under physiological conditions. Demonstration of the high-resolution single-cell EndMT tracking by live cell time-lapse microscopy and with post-acquisition processing to perform a comparative study of CNN1-Rep and healthy LSECs within a NASH-like LOAC microenvironment. Conclusions LOAC enables prolonged, multi-platform imaging of endothelial cell sub-populations such as those undergoing EndMT in 2D and 3D cultures. Our study highlights the application of EndMT reporters, such as CNN1-Rep, to provide high-resolution imaging of EndMT behaviour for the first time under physiologically relevant liver microenvironment. Overall, these methods reveal the adaptability and impact of live-cell imaging on uncovering vascular behaviours, such as EndMT, that are unattainable in viable tissue or conventional 2D in vitro experiments. Abstract
We describe, for the first time, a new splice variant of the human TGF-β type II receptor (TβRII). The new transcript lacks 149 nucleotides, resulting in a frameshift and the emergence of an early stop codon, rendering a truncated mature protein of 57 amino acids. The predicted protein, lacking the transmembrane domain and with a distinctive 13-amino-acid stretch at its C-terminus, was named TβRII-Soluble Endogenous (TβRII-SE). Binding predictions indicate that the novel 13-amino-acid stretch interacts with all three TGF-β cognate ligands and generates a more extensive protein–protein interface than TβRII. TβRII-SE and human IgG1 Fc domain were fused in frame in a lentiviral vector (Lv) for further characterization. With this vector, we transduced 293T cells and purified TβRII-SE/Fc by A/G protein chromatography from conditioned medium. Immunoblotting revealed homogeneous bands of approximately 37 kDa (reduced) and 75 kDa (non-reduced), indicating that TβRII-SE/Fc is secreted as a disulfide-linked homodimer. Moreover, high-affinity binding of TβRII-SE to the three TGF-β isoforms was confirmed by surface plasmon resonance (SPR) analysis. Also, intrahepatic delivery of Lv.TβRII-SE/Fc in a carbon tetrachloride-induced liver fibrosis model revealed amelioration of liver injury and fibrosis. Our results indicate that TβRII-SE is a novel member of the TGF-β signaling pathway with distinctive characteristics. This novel protein offers an alternative for the prevention and treatment of pathologies caused by the overproduction of TGF-β ligands.

Abstract
Platelet (PLT) indices have been proposed as potential markers in the assessment of liver fibrosis and exacerbation of liver failure. The aim of our study was to verify mean platelet volume (MPV), platelet distribution width (PDW), and plateletcrit (PCT) in alcohol-related liver cirrhosis (ALC) and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) patients. One hundred forty-two patients with ALC, 92 with NAFLD, and 68 in control group were enrolled in this study. Hematological indices (MPV, PCT, and PDW) and serological (indirect and direct) markers of liver fibrosis (AAR, APRI, FIB-4, GPR, PICP, PIIINP, TGF-α, PDGF-AB, laminin) were measured in each participant. MELD score in ALC patients and NAFLD fibrosis score (NFS) together with BARD score in the NAFLD group were also obtained. Results were compared between research and control groups. Then, a correlation between evaluated indices was performed in study groups. Receiver operating characteristic curves (ROCs) and area under the curve (AUC) values were applied to assess the diagnostic accuracy of measured indices. Significant increase in PDW and decrease in PCT in comparison to controls were noted in examined ALC (60.4% vs. 51.2% and 0.1% vs. 0.21%, respectively, p < 0.0001) and NAFLD (54.75% vs. 51.2% and 0.19 vs. 0.21%, respectively, p < 0.01) patients. Decreased level of MPV was observed in NAFLD group (7.85 fl vs. 8.90 fl, p < 0.0001). Additionally, PCT correlated with NFS (p < 0.0001). Evaluated PLT indices correlated with MELD score (MPV and PDW, p < 0.001; PCT, p < 0.05). They correlated with indirect and direct markers of liver fibrosis in the whole research group, too. PCT was the parameter with the greatest diagnostic accuracy in ALC patients (AUC = 0,839 for cutoff < 0.17%); in NAFLD group, it was MPV (AUC = 0,808 for cutoff < 7.9 fl). PCT in ALC and MPV in NAFLD can be perceived as potential diagnostic markers.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Chronic liver diseases pose a major health problem worldwide, while common tests for diagnosis and monitoring of diffuse hepatopathy have considerable limitations. Preliminary data on the quantification of hepatic extracellular volume fraction (ECV) with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for non-invasive assessment of liver fibrosis are encouraging, with ECV having the potential to overcome several of these constraints. PURPOSE To clinically evaluate ECV provided by quantitative MRI for assessing the severity of liver disease. MATERIALS AND METHODS In this prospective study, multiparametric liver MRI, including T1 mapping and magnetic resonance elastography (MRE), was performed in subjects with and without hepatopathy between November 2018 and October 2019. T1, T2, T2*, proton density fat fraction and stiffness were extracted from parametric maps by regions of interest and ECV was calculated from T1 relaxometries. Serum markers of liver disease were obtained by clinical database research. For correlation analysis, Spearman rank correlation was used. ROC analysis of serum markers and quantitative MRI data for discrimination of liver cirrhosis was performed with MRE as reference standard. RESULTS 109 participants were enrolled (50.7 ± 16.1 years, 61 men). ECV, T1 and MRE correlated significantly with almost all serum markers of liver disease, with ECV showing the strongest associations (up to r = 0.67 with MELD, p < 0.01). ECV and T1 correlated with MRE (0.75 and 0.73, p < 0.01 each). ECV (AUC 0.89, cutoff 32.2%, sensitivity 85%, specificity 87%) and T1 mapping (AUC 0.85, cutoff 592.5 ms, sensitivity 83%, specificity 75%) featured good performances in detection of liver cirrhosis with only ECV performing significantly superior to model of end stage liver disease (MELD), AST/ALT ratio and international normalized ratio (p < 0.01, respectively). CONCLUSION Quantification of hepatic extracellular volume fraction with MRI is suitable for estimating the severity of liver disease when using MRE as the standard of reference. It represents a promising tool for non-invasive assessment of liver fibrosis and cirrhosis.

Abstract
Hepatic disease accounts for approximately 2 million deaths/year worldwide. Liver fibrosis, as the last stage of numerous chronic liver diseases, is one of the most relevant prognostic factors. The liver biopsy with the histopathological examination is considered to be the "gold standard" for the identification and staging of the hepatic fibrosis. However, liver biopsy is known as an invasive investigation that has multiple limitations. Research studies conducted in the last few years focused on identifying non-invasive type methods for the evaluation of hepatic fibrosis; usually, there are 2 categories of such investigations: serologic tests and imaging techniques. This narrative review presents the non-invasive investigation methods used in the liver fibrosis evaluation. New molecular perspectives on fibrogenesis and fibrosis regression, as well as the appearance of therapeutic antifibrotic agents, justify the necessity of non-invasive tools to detect and grade liver fibrosis.

Abstract
Liver fibrosis is an intrinsic repair process of chronic injury with excessive deposition of extracellular matrix. As an early stage of various liver diseases, liver fibrosis is a reversible pathological process. Therefore, if not being controlled in time, liver fibrosis will evolve into cirrhosis, liver failure, and liver cancer. It has been demonstrated that hepatic stellate cells (HSCs) play a crucial role in the formation of liver fibrosis. In particular, the activation of HSCs is a key step for liver fibrosis. Recent researches have suggested that autophagy and inflammasome have biological effect on HSC activation. Herein, we review current studies about the impact of autophagy and NOD-like receptors containing pyrin domain 3 (NLRP3) inflammasome on liver fibrosis and the underlying mechanisms.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Liver fibrosis is characterized by the excessive accumulation of extracellular matrix proteins. Electrical conductivity imaging at low frequency can provide novel contrast because the contrast mechanisms originate from the changes in the concentration and mobility of ions in the extracellular space. PURPOSE To evaluate the feasibility of an MR-based electrical conductivity imaging that can detect the changes in a tissue condition associated with the progression of liver fibrosis. STUDY TYPE Prospective phantom and animal study. ANIMAL MODEL Fibrosis was induced by weekly intraperitoneal injection of dimethylnitrosamine (DMN) in 45 male Sprague-Dawley rats. FIELD STRENGTH/SEQUENCE 3T MRI with a multispin-echo pulse sequence. ASSESSMENT The percentage change of conductivity (Δσ, %) in the same region-of-interest (ROI) was calculated from the DMN-treated rats based on the values of the normal control rats. The percentage change was also calculated between the ROIs in each DMN-treated group. STATISTICAL TESTS One-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and a two-sample t-test were performed. RESULTS Liver tissues in normal control rats showed a uniform conductivity distribution of 56.6 ± 4.4 (mS/m). In rats more than 5 weeks after induction, the fibrous region showed an increased conductivity of ≥12% compared to that of the corresponding normal control rats. From regional comparisons in the same liver, the fibrous region showed an increased conductivity of ≥11% compared to the opposite, less induced region of rats more than 5 weeks after induction. Liver samples from the fibrous region represent tissue damages such as diffuse centrilobular congestion with marked dilatation of central veins from the histological findings. Immunohistochemistry revealed significant levels of attenuated fibrosis and increased inflammatory response. DATA CONCLUSION The increased conductivity in the fibrous region is related to the changes of the extracellular space. The correlation between the collagen deposition and conductivity changes is essential for future clinical studies. Level of Evidence 2 Technical Efficacy Stage 2 J. MAGN. RESON. Abstract
Traditional histopathological allograft biopsy evaluation provides, within hours, diagnoses, prognostic information, and mechanistic insights into disease processes. However, proponents of an array of alternative monitoring platforms, broadly classified as "invasive" or "noninvasive" depending on whether allograft tissue is needed, question the value proposition of tissue histopathology. The authors explore the pros and cons of current analytical methods relative to the value of traditional and illustrate advancements of next-generation histopathological evaluation of tissue biopsies. We describe the continuing value of traditional histopathological tissue assessment and "next-generation pathology (NGP)," broadly defined as staining/labeling techniques coupled with digital imaging and automated image analysis. Noninvasive imaging and fluid (blood and urine) analyses promote low-risk, global organ assessment, and "molecular" data output, respectively; invasive alternatives promote objective, "mechanistic" insights by creating gene lists with variably increased/decreased expression compared with steady state/baseline. Proponents of alternative approaches contrast their preferred methods with traditional histopathology and: (1) fail to cite the main value of traditional and NGP-retention of spatial and inferred temporal context available for innumerable objective analyses and (2) belie an unfamiliarity with the impact of advances in imaging and software-guided analytics on emerging histopathology practices. Illustrative NGP examples demonstrate the value of multidimensional data that preserve tissue-based spatial and temporal contexts. We outline a path forward for clinical NGP implementation where "software-assisted sign-out" will enable pathologists to conduct objective analyses that can be incorporated into their final reports and improve patient care.

Abstract
Objective To assess the application value of perfusion-weighted imaging (PWI) in early diagnosis, quantitation, and hepatic fibrosis staging by analyzing the related parameters in hepatic fibrosis. Methods A total of 60 rats were randomly divided into the hepatic fibrosis and control groups, and carbon tetrachloride (CCL4) was used to establish the liver fibrosis model. All rats underwent PWI examination, and the trend of the time-signal intensity curve (TIC, automatically generated by the software) was observed. Also, the perfusion parameters, maximum signal reduction ratio (SRRmax), time to peak (TTP), and mean transit time (MTT), were analyzed and compared with pathological staging. Results The TIC curve was characterized by slow wash-in and wash-out with a low and wide peak. The PWI perfusion parameters were statistically significant in specific groups (P < 0.05): SRRmax values (control group and F3, F4), TTP, and MTT values (control group and F2–F4, F1 and F3, F1 and F4, and F2 and F4 in addition to TTP values for F1 and F2). Pearson's correlation analysis showed a negative correlation of SRRmax with hepatic fibrosis stage (r = −0.439, P < 0.05), while TTP and MTT values were positively correlated with hepatic fibrosis stage (TTP, r = 0.798; MTT, r = 0.647; all P < 0.001). Conclusions PWI perfusion parameters reflect the degree of hepatic fibrosis, especially TTP and MTT, and PWI is recommended for the early diagnosis of liver fibrosis for timely intervention and treatment of the disease and delaying its progression.

Abstract
PURPOSE To characterize the magnetic susceptibility changes of liver fibrosis using susceptibility tensor imaging. METHODS Liver biopsy tissue samples of patients with liver fibrosis were obtained. Three-dimensional gradient-echo and diffusion-weighted images were acquired at 9.4 T. Susceptibility tensors of the samples were calculated using the gradient-echo phase signal acquired at 12 different orientations relative to the B0 field. Susceptibility anisotropy of the liver collagen fibers was quantified and compared with diffusion anisotropy, measured by DTI. For validation, a comparison was made to histology including hematoxylin and eosin staining, iron staining, and Masson's trichrome staining. RESULTS Areas with strong diamagnetic susceptibility were observed in the tissue samples forming fibrous patterns. This diamagnetic susceptibility was highly anisotropic. Both the mean magnetic susceptibility and susceptibility anisotropy of collagen fibers exhibited a strong contrast against the surrounding nonfibrotic tissues. The same regions also showed an elevated diffusion anisotropy but with much lower tissue contrast. Masson's trichrome staining identified concentrated collagens in the fibrous regions with high susceptibility anisotropy, and a linear correlation was found between the susceptibility anisotropy and the histology-based staging. CONCLUSION Diamagnetic susceptibility indicates the presence of collagen in the fibrotic liver tissues. Mapping magnetic susceptibility anisotropy may serve as a potential marker to quantify collagen fiber changes in patients with liver fibrosis.

Abstract
BACKGROUND In the present study, we aimed to put forward the relationship between multidetector computed tomography findings and scores for liver function evaluation. METHOD Included in the study were 51 patients with liver cirrhosis. Preoperative creatinine levels, international normalized ratio and alpha-fetoprotein values, albumin and sodium levels, the presence of ascites and varices, Model for End-Stage Liver Disease (MELD) scores, MELD-Sodium (MELD-Na) scores, and Child-Turcotte-Pugh Classification, the presence of ascites and varices, the size of liver, the size and diameter of the spleen, portal vein diameter, splenic artery diameter, and proper hepatic and right hepatic artery diameter were all determined. RESULTS Although the correlation between the spleen diameter and the MELD scores (P <.001) and MELD-Na scores (P = .02) was strong, there was no association with the Child-Turcotte-Pugh Classification (P = .08). Despite the correlations between portal vein diameter (P = .04) and splenic artery diameter (P = .04) and MELD scores, no association was detected with MELD-Na scores and the Child-Pugh scores. Even though a negative correlation between proper hepatic artery diameter (P = .18) and MELD-Na scores was noted, no statistically significant correlation could be identified with any scoring systems. In the multivariate linear regression analyses, the correlation between the portal vein diameter and MELD scores was significant as a radiologic finding. In the multiple linear regression analyses, the negative correlation between the right hepatic artery and MELD-Na scores diameter was statistically significant. In the multiple linear regression analyses, there was no statistically significant correlation between preoperative radiologic findings and Child-Turcotte-Pugh Classification. CONCLUSION We believe that preoperative multislice computed tomography imaging in patients with chronic liver disease may contribute to the diagnosis of disease, the determination of vascular anomalies, and the grading of the severity of the disease.

Abstract
The liver morphological changes in relation to fibrosis stage in nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) have not yet been clearly understood. This study was to develop a liver surface nodularity (LSN) quantification program and to compare the fibrosis grades in simple steatosis (SS) and nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). Thirty subjects (7 normal controls [NC], 12 SS and 11 NASH) were studied. LSN quantification procedure was bias correction, boundary detection, segmentation and LSN measurement. LSN scores among three groups and fibrosis grades compared using Kruskal–Wallis H test. Diagnostic accuracy was determined by calculating the area under the receiver operating characteristics (ROC) curve. Mean LSN scores were NC 1.30 ± 0.09, SS 1.54 ± 0.21 and NASH 1.59 ± 0.23 (p = 0.008). Mean LSN scores according to fibrosis grade (F) were F0 1.30 ± 0.09, F1 1.45 ± 0.17 and F2&F3 1.67 ± 0.20 (p = 0.001). The mean LSN score in F2&F3 is significantly higher than that in F1 (p = 0.019). The AUROC curve to distinguish F1 and F2&F3 was 0.788 (95% CI 0.595–0.981, p = 0.019) at a cut-off LSN score greater than 1.48, and its diagnostic accuracy had 0.833 sensitivity and 0.727 specificity. This study developed LSN program and its clinical application demonstrated that the quantitative LSN scores can help to differentially diagnose fibrosis stage in NAFLD.

Abstract
Introduction: Hepatic fibrosis and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) can develop in children with congenital heart disease. Although hepatic fibrosis and HCC are prone to develop after the Fontan operation, they can also develop in patients suffering from congenital heart disease who have not undergone Fontan operation. Area covered: The history of cardiac hepatopathy including Fontan-associated liver disease is described. Patient characteristics, liver histology, imaging examinations and blood tests are reviewed to elucidate the mechanism of cardiac hepatopathy. In addition, a flowchart for the follow-up management of cardiac hepatopathy in children with congenital heart disease is proposed. Expert opinion: Congestion and low cardiac output are the main causes of cardiac hepatopathy. Advanced hepatic fibrosis is presumed to be associated with HCC. HCC can develop in both adolescents and young adults. Regardless of whether the Fontan operation is performed, children with a functional single ventricle and chronic heart failure should be regularly examined for cardiac hepatopathy. There is no single reliable laboratory parameter to accurately detect cardiac hepatopathy; hepatic fibrosis indices and elastography have shown inconsistent results for detection of this disease. Further studies using liver specimen-confirmed patients and standardization of evaluation protocols are required to clarify the pathogenesis of cardiac hepatopathy.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Staging diagnosis of liver fibrosis is a prerequisite for timely diagnosis and therapy in patients with chronic hepatitis B. In recent years, ultrasound elastography has become an important method for clinical noninvasive assessment of liver fibrosis stage, but its diagnostic value for early liver fibrosis still needs to be further improved. In this study, the texture analysis was carried out on the basis of two dimensional shear wave elastography (2D-SWE), and the feasibility of 2D-SWE plus texture analysis in the diagnosis of early liver fibrosis was discussed.
AIM To assess the diagnostic value of 2D-SWE combined with textural analysis in liver fibrosis staging.
METHODS This study recruited 46 patients with chronic hepatitis B. Patients underwent 2D-SWE and texture analysis; Young's modulus values and textural patterns were obtained, respectively. Textural pattern was analyzed with regard to contrast, correlation, angular second moment (ASM), and homogeneity. Pathological results of biopsy specimens were the gold standard; comparison and assessment of the diagnosis efficiency were conducted for 2D-SWE, texture analysis and their combination.
RESULTS 2D-SWE displayed diagnosis efficiency in early fibrosis, significant fibrosis, severe fibrosis, and early cirrhosis (AUC > 0.7, P < 0.05) with respective AUC values of 0.823 (0.678-0.921), 0.808 (0.662-0.911), 0.920 (0.798-0.980), and 0.855 (0.716-0.943). Contrast and homogeneity displayed independent diagnosis efficiency in liver fibrosis stage (AUC > 0.7, P < 0.05), whereas correlation and ASM showed limited values. AUC of contrast and homogeneity were respectively 0.906 (0.779-0.973), 0.835 (0.693-0.930), 0.807 (0.660-0.910) and 0.925 (0.805-0.983), 0.789 (0.639-0.897), 0.736 (0.582-0.858), 0.705 (0.549-0.883) and 0.798 (0.650-0.904) in four liver fibrosis stages, which exhibited equivalence to 2D-SWE in diagnostic efficiency (P > 0.05). Combined diagnosis (PRE) displayed diagnostic efficiency (AUC > 0.7, P < 0.01) for all fibrosis stages with respective AUC of 0.952 (0.841-0.994), 0.896 (0.766-0.967), 0.978 (0.881-0.999), 0.947 (0.835-0.992). The combined diagnosis showed higher diagnosis efficiency over 2D-SWE in early liver fibrosis (P < 0.05), whereas no significant differences were observed in other comparisons (P > 0.05).
CONCLUSION Texture analysis was capable of diagnosing liver fibrosis stage, combined diagnosis had obvious advantages in early liver fibrosis, liver fibrosis stage might be related to the hepatic tissue hardness distribution.
