Abstract
The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of supplementing toothpastes containing 1100 ppm F with micrometric or nanometric [beta]-calcium glycerophosphate (β-CaGPm/β-CaGPn) on artificial enamel demineralization, using a pH cycling model. Bovine enamel blocks (4 mm × 4 mm, n = 120) selected using initial surface hardness were randomly allocated to ten toothpaste groups (n = 12): without fluoride or β-CaGPm or β-CaGPn (Negative control), 1100 ppm F (1100 F), and 1100 ppm F plus 0.125%, 0.25%, 0.5%, and 1.0% of β-CaGPm or β-CaGPn. Blocks were treated two times per day with toothpaste slurry and subjected to five pH cycles (demineralizing and remineralizing solutions) at 37 °C. The final surface hardness, percentage of surface hardness loss (%SH), cross-sectional hardness (ΔKHN), and profile analysis and lesion depth subsurface were analysed using polarized light microscopy (PLM). Fluoride (F), calcium (Ca), and phosphorus (P) concentrations were also measured. Data were analysed using ANOVA and Student-Newman-Keuls tests ([alpha] = 0.001). Blocks treated with 1100 F toothpaste containing 0.5%β-CaGPm or 0.25%β-CaGPn showed with reduced %SH values when compared with those treated with 1100 F alone (p < 0.001). Reduced lesion depths (ΔKHN and PLM) were observed for the slurry made up of 1100 F and 0.25%β-CaGPn (p < 0.001). The addition of β-CaGPm and β-CaGPn did not influence the enamel F concentration, with the 1100 F/0.25%β-CaGPn group exhibiting the highest Ca and P enamel concentrations (p < 0.001). Based on the findings of this in vitro study, we can conclude that the fluoride toothpaste produced a superior effect when combined at an appropriate β-CaGP molar ratio. This effect was achieved with a lower proportion of β-CaGP in the form of nanometric particles.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Calcium-coacervate emulsions (CC) might be considered as mineral precursors to foster remineralization of carious dental hard tissues. This study analyzed the instant effect of repeated infiltration of artificial caries lesions with a CC emulsion as well as the effects of subsequent exposure of CC-infiltrated lesions to demineralizing and remineralizing environments. METHODS Bovine enamel specimens were partly covered with varnish to leave three exposed windows. Artificial enamel caries lesions were created (pH 4.95, 17d). Baseline controls (BL) were obtained by preparing a thin section of each specimen. Specimens were allocated to five groups. In three groups lesions were etched with 37 % phosphoric acid gel, infiltrated with dipotassium hydrogen phosphate and subsequently with a calcium coacervate emulsion, prepared by mixing CaCl2 ⋅ 2H2O with polyacrylic acid sodium salt (PAA-Na). Subsequently, the infiltration effect was either analyzed immediately (Inf.) or after exposition to either de- (Inf.+DS) or remineralizing solution (Inf.+RS) for 10 or 20 days, respectively. In two control groups specimens were exposed to either DS or RS, respectively without prior CC infiltration. Integrated mineral loss [ΔZ(vol%×µm)] was analyzed using transverse microradiography (TMR). RESULTS Infiltration of enamel caries lesions with coacervate solution resulted in only subtle immediate mineral gain even if repeated. When exposed to demineralizing conditions, infiltrated lesions showed significantly less mineral loss compared to untreated controls (p < 0.05; Kruskal Wallis) and exhibited characteristic mineral depositions within the lesion body. CONCLUSIONS While immediate mineral gain by infiltration was only modest, the CC-emulsion might be able to prevent demineralization in acidic conditions. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE Calcium coacervates might act protective against further demineralization when infiltrated into enamel caries lesions.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Demineralization of the enamel surface, which appears as white spot lesions during and after removal of the fixed orthodontic appliance, is the most common disadvantage of the orthodontic treatment course. Using the remineralizing agents during and after orthodontic treatment helps to avoid those enamel defects. OBJECTIVE The present study aims to assess the remineralizing effect of the chicken eggshell powder on the demineralized enamel surfaces after debonding the orthodontic bracket system. MATERIALS AND METHODS The current study was performed on 80 prepared premolar crowns embedded into acrylic molds. The samples were prepared to receive routine steps of the bonding process for the bracket system. The paste of the chicken eggshell powder was added to the samples after the debonding process. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy-dispersive X-ray (EDX) were used to evaluate the remineralization effect of the chicken eggshell powder. Also, the Vickers microhardness tester was used to assess the enamel surface microhardness. RESULTS It was found that the mean value of the Ca/P ratio for the samples before bonding of the orthodontic bracket system was (4.17 ± 2.2). This value significantly decreased to (2 ± 1.3) after debonding of the orthodontic bracket system and then showed a significant increase to (4.79 ± 2.65) after remineralization. These results were assured by the values of the Vickers microhardness tester. CONCLUSION The chicken eggshell powder has an excellent remineralization effect for the demineralized enamel surface after debonding the orthodontic enamel surface.

Abstract
Aim and Objective This study was intended to compare and determine the potency of strontium-doped nano-hydroxyapatite paste against a topical cream containing casein phosphopeptide-amorphous calcium phosphate and a regular dentifrice for remineralization of white spot lesions of enamel following orthodontic debonding. Methods Ninety individuals with white spot lesions on their enamel who visited the orthodontic department for de-bonding were selected for the research. Patients were randomly assigned to three distinct groups with each group consisting of 30 patients. Group 1 served as the control and received regular dentifrice, Group 2 received strontium-doped nano-hydroxyapatite paste, and Group 3 received casein phosphopeptide-amorphous calcium phosphate topical cream. Patients were instructed to locally apply a specified amount of the prescribed preparation twice daily for six weeks. The data were analysed using the statistical programme SPSS 22.0 (SPSS Inc., Chicago, IL, USA), and the level of significance had been set at p < 0.05. Results Group 1 did not show any change in the enamel following the application of toothpaste. Both Group 2 and 3 demonstrated higher post-treatment scores, indicating effective remineralization potential (p < 0.001). However, Group 2 (strontium-doped nano-hydroxyapatite paste) displayed significantly greater remineralization capacity when compared to group 3 (casein phosphopeptide-amorphous calcium phosphate topical cream). Conclusion Compared to conventional dentifrice and casein phosphopeptide-amorphous calcium phosphate paste, strontium-doped nano-hydroxyapatite preparation demonstrated greater enamel remineralization of the white spot lesions and favourable surface alterations in the enamel surface. strontium-doped nano-hydroxyapatite can be utilised safely and efficiently to treat early caries and remineralise white spot lesions on the enamel.

Abstract
Introduction With the paradigm shift in the management of dental caries, the focus is now laid on remineralization therapies that can arrest the progression of the disease and remineralize the subsurface lesions. Objectives The purpose of this study was to determine and compare the remineralizing potential of silver diamine fluoride (SDF), casein phosphopeptide-amorphous calcium phosphate (CPP-ACP), and fluoride varnish (FV) on enamel surfaces in primary and permanent teeth. Materials and methods A total of 120 primary anterior teeth and 120 premolars were used to prepare enamel blocks in acrylic resin. The mean baseline surface microhardness (SMH) for each sample was determined using a microvickers hardness testing machine. Thereafter, the samples were randomly and equally distributed into groups and subgroups based on the materials used, that is, SDF, CPP-ACP, FV, and distilled water (control). After subjecting the samples to a pH cycling regime, SMH was determined again and the percentage change in SMH was calculated. Results The data were tabulated and subjected to statistical analysis using an independent t-test and one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA). In primary teeth, the least mean percentage reduction in SMH was observed after the application of FV followed by SDF, CPP-ACP, and control. In permanent teeth, both SDF and FV showed the least percentage reduction of enamel SMH followed by CPP-ACP and control. Abstract
OBJECTIVE White spot lesions (WSLs), the earliest evidence of enamel demineralization, are considered amenable to intervention to achieve a remineralized or arrested state of caries. The management of WSLs is quite challenging, and there is no definitive cure as yet. We performed a network meta-analysis to assess the efficacy of seven therapies for WSLs and gave a hierarchy of them. MATERIALS AND METHODS We systematically searched the PubMed, EMBASE, Cochrane, and Web of Science databases (last search: July 2022) to identify all relevant studies. We limited our search to studies published in English. Randomized controlled designed in vitro/clinical trials related to the efficacy of the seven therapies for WSLs were included. Data extraction was performed independently by two reviewers. The risk of bias (ROB) 2.0 tool from Cochrane and a previous in vitro methodological tool will be used for the quality assessment. Variations in quantitative light-induced fluorescence (QLF), laser fluorescence (LF), and lesions area were the primary outcome measures. Standard mean difference (SMD) was used as the effect size for the Network meta-analysis (NMA). Consistency and inconsistency tests were conducted. The hierarchy of 7 treatment effects was evaluated using surface probabilities under cumulative ranking (SUCRA). Publication bias was evaluated using a bias plot. RESULTS Forty-two articles were included in the systematic review. Thirty-one of them, with a total of 1906 participants, were included in the network meta-analysis. The studies owned a low and moderate risk of bias. This analysis does not suffer from significant inconsistency. The difference between 4 groups 'self-assembled peptide (SAP) P11-4', 'P11-4 + Fluoride Varnish (FV)', 'Resin Infiltration (RI)', 'casein phosphor peptides-amorphous calcium fluoride phosphate (CPP-ACFP)' and the 'Control' group was found to be statistically significant. Compared to the 'FV' and 'casein phosphor peptides-amorphous calcium phosphate (CPP-ACP)' groups, the 'P11-4 + FV" group and 'RI" group made a significant difference. The hierarchy was evident in the SUCRA values of 7 therapies. P11-4 + FV and RI were considered effective therapies compared to the control group or the FV group (gold standard group). CONCLUSIONS The available evidence suggests that resin infiltration and P11-4 in combination with fluoride varnish had advantages over gold standard (FV). The effect of tricalcium phosphate-based drugs and fluoride is not very noticeable. Overall, drugs based on P11-4 and resin infiltration will be better therapies. Using more than two drugs in combination also would increase efficacy.

Abstract
Biomimetic zinc-carbonate hydroxyapatite technology was developed to realize materials that mimic the natural hydroxyapatite of enamel and dentin and possess good activity in terms of affinity to adhere to these biological tissues. The chemical and physical characteristics of this active ingredient allows the hydroxyapatite itself to be particularly similar to dental hydroxyapatite, enhancing the bond between biomimetic hydroxyapatite and dental hydroxyapatite. The aim of this review is to assess the efficacy of this technology in terms of benefits for enamel and dentin and reduction of dental hypersensitivity. MATERIALS AND METHODS A literature search (Pubmed/MEDLINE and Scopus) of articles from 2003 to 2023 was conducted to analyze studies focused on the use of zinc-hydroxyapatite products. Duplicates were eliminated from the 5065 articles found, leaving 2076 articles. Of these, 30 articles were analyzed based on the use of products with zinc-carbonate hydroxyapatite in these studies. RESULTS 30 articles were included. Most of the studies showed benefits in terms of remineralization and prevention of enamel demineralization in terms of occlusion of the dentinal tubules and reduction of dentinal hypersensitivity. CONCLUSION Oral care products such as toothpaste and mouthwash with biomimetic zinc-carbonate hydroxyapatite were shown to provide benefits according to the aims of this review.

Abstract
Aim To report a unique case of Autoimmune polyendocrinopathy-candidiasis-ectodermal dystrophy (APECED) in a young boy and discuss the oral health impact and management of the disease. Background Autoimmune polyendocrinopathy-candidiasis-ectodermal dystrophy (APECED) is a rare autoimmune disorder with various clinical manifestations. Biallelic mutations in the autoimmune regulator (AIRE) gene lead to impairment of central immune tolerance and a targeted attack on various endocrine and non-endocrine organs. Patients classically suffer from a triad of disorders, including chronic mucocutaneous candidiasis (CMC), hypoparathyroidism, and adrenocortical failure (Addison's disease). Results In recent times, it has been observed that oral manifestations of the disorder, such as enamel hypoplasia, appear early and frequently. Affected individuals require a comprehensive preventive and minimally invasive approach for oral health along with follow-up throughout their lifespan to manage potentially life-threatening disease manifestations. Conclusion Prompt recognition by a pediatric dentist can facilitate an earlier diagnosis and allow for screening, preventive and therapeutic services. Clinical Significance To deliver oral health care in an effective and comprehensive manner, clinicians should be able to recognize, diagnose and manage the signs and symptoms of the disease. Abstract
People performing regular physical activity are at high risk of dental erosion especially in cases of high sport drinks intake. Biomimetic hydroxyapatite-based oral hygiene products, like toothpastes and mouthwashes, have been investigated in recent years for their remineralizing activity on the teeth. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the efficacy of two different oral hygiene protocols, respectively consisting of the combination of a hydroxyapatite-based toothpaste plus mouthwash (Trial group) or toothpaste alone (Control Group). At baseline (T0), as well as at 15 days (T1), 30 days (T2) and 90 days (T3), the following clinical indexes were assessed: Basic Erosive Wear Examination (BEWE), Schiff Air Index (SAI), Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), Plaque Index (PI) and Bleeding Index (BI). In general, for all the indexes assessed, a progressive intragroup reduction was noticed from the baseline to the subsequent timepoints, with no intergroup differences. Accordingly, the use of the hydroxyapatite-based toothpaste, alone or in combination with the mouthwash containing hydroxyapatite as well, is an effective method for the domiciliary management of dental erosion in physically active individuals like rugby players.

Abstract
Introduction: Biomimetic hydroxyapatite-based toothpastes have been investigated in recent years for their remineralizing activity on dental surfaces. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the efficacy of toothpaste containing biomimetic hydroxyapatite versus a 1450 pppm fluoride one in promoting the remineralization and desensitization of white spot lesions. Methods: 40 patients were randomly assigned to two different domiciliary oral hygiene treatments: toothpaste containing 1450 ppm of fluoride (control group) and toothpaste containing biomimetic hydroxyapatite (experimental group). Dental sensitivity/pain and dental erosion were assessed at baseline and after 15, 30, and 90 days using the following indexes: Schiff Air Index (SAI), Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), and Basic Erosive Wear Examination (BEWE). Results: Data were submitted for statistical analysis. SAI significantly decreased after 3 months (T3) of treatment only in the Trial group (p < 0.05). VAS values significantly decreased at T2 in the trial group (p < 0.05) with a further significant reduction at T3 (p < 0.05). BEWE scores did not significantly vary during the follow up neither in the trial nor in the control group. Conclusions: The hydroxyapatite-based toothpaste tested caused a reduction of hypersensitivity/pain values higher than conventional fluoride toothpaste.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The aim of the current study is to evaluate the remineralization potential of experimental tricalcium silicate (TCS) paste in comparison with more popular remineralizing agents like silver diamine fluoride potassium iodide (SDF-KI) and casein phosphopeptide amorphous calcium phosphate (CPP-ACP) on early enamel lesions. MATERIALS AND METHODS Forty-five patients in the age range of 15-50 years had early enamel lesions on the buccal surface of molar teeth. The patients were randomly divided into three treatment groups (SDF-KI, CPP-ACP, and TCS group) with 15 patients per group. Lesions were evaluated clinically by DIAGNOdent pen immediately and after 3,6,12, and 24 months of treatment. RESULTS The study was completed with 45 patients and 92 teeth. Twice-daily application of CPP-ACP and TCS paste showed a significant remineralization effect on early enamel lesions after 24 months (p < 0.001). Also, annual application of SDF-KI showed a significant remineralization effect after 24 months (p < 0.001). There was a significant difference between (SDF-KI and CPP-ACP) and (SDF-KI and TCS) at the different follow-up periods 3,6,12, and 24 months (p < 0.001). Meanwhile, there was no significant difference between CPP-ACP and TCS at the mentioned follow-up periods (p > 0.05). CONCLUSION TCS showed potential remineralization for early enamel lesions. CLINICAL RELEVANCE Experimental TCS is a promising remineralizing agent for management of early enamel lesions.

Abstract
Tricho-dento-osseous syndrome (TDO) is a rare autosomal dominant disorder with complete penetrance. Common clinical features include abnormalities of hair, teeth, and skull. Dental management of TDO patients is quite challenging in terms of existing dental and skeletal problems. The current article presents a 12-year-old girl suffering TDO, followed by a review on the published literature pertaining to the dental management of TDO patients. Patient history included, rejected corneal transplantation, stone-forming kidneys, and several previous dental treatments. She was noted to have signs of mandibular prognatia, frontal bossing of the skull, mild bilateral tibial bowing, microstomia, and labial fissures. Dental findings included severe generalized enamel defects, discolored teeth, microdontia, anterior open-bite, posterior cross-bite, deep periodontal pockets, hyperplastic inflamed gingiva, taurodontism of permanent molars, dental periapical radiolucencies, and missing teeth. She was the only child of healthy, nonconsanguineous parents with no familial history of similar congenital syndrome or dental abnormalities. A treatment plan was established based on medical/dental history and findings, using a team-based approach. This article emphasizes the importance of a multidisciplinary approach for the dental management of patients suffering TDO.

Abstract
Objective: The goal of this systematic review was to evaluate the therapeutic efficacy of Casein Phosphopeptide Amorphous Calcium Phosphate (CPP-ACP) remineralizing potential to that of other remineralizing treatments and placebo in both naturally occurring and postorthodontic white spot lesions (WSL) in vivo. Materials and Methods: From 2005 to 2020, the literature search used electronic databases PubMed, Embase, Science Direct, and Google Scholar to find studies published solely in English and randomized controlled trials (RCTs) employing CPP-ACP as an intervention. All eligible studies were reviewed by two independent reviewers. Results: Excluding duplications, 72 articles were identified. Abstracts of 58 articles were reviewed independently, 19 articles were excluded, 36 full text articles were retrieved; finally selecting 14 studies. Conclusion: The CPP-ACP was found to have efficacious remineralizing potential on naturally occurring and postorthodontic WSL compared to placebo or other preventive measures. Further well-performed RCTs are needed to determine the therapeutic significance of remineralizing medicines, and long-term follow-ups are required.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To determine if native Colombian Piper marginatum Jacq. and Ilex guayusa Loes plant extracts have a remineralizing effect on teeth with Amelogenesis imperfecta in comparison with the commercial products Clinpro-3M and Recaldent™. MATERIAL AND METHODS An in vitro study was carried out with 128 human teeth slices (64 healthy and 64 with Amelogenesis imperfecta) on which an initial Raman spectroscopy was performed followed by Raman spectroscopies at 0, 24, 48, and 72 h to determine possible remineralization by observing mineral increase or decrease as a result of P. marginatum Jacq. and I. guayusa Loes extract application in comparison to control substance (Clinpro and Recaldent™) application. Obtained data were analyzed using a bivariate method with a t unidirectional test. Significant differences among groups were determined by an ANOVA with Dunnett post hoc tests. RESULTS Native I. guayusa Loes and P. marginatum Jacq. Colombian plants extracts exhibited phosphate and orthophosphate mineral apposition, where P. marginatum Jacq. presented better results. CONCLUSIONS Native Colombian I. guayusa Loes and P. marginatum Jacq plant extract might in the future be useful for dental tissue remineralization, as they induced phosphate and orthophosphate mineral apposition, main components of tooth enamel. These types of natural compounds can become an alternative to fluorine, whose ingestion is harmful to the human body.

Abstract
Background: The principles of minimally invasive dentistry clearly tells us the need for clinically effective measures to remineralize the early enamel caries lesions. Aims and Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate the remineralisation potential of four different remineralisation agents used quantitatively by surface microhardness and qualitatively by energy dispersive X ray analysis. Materials and Methods: Artificial enamel lesions were created on the buccal surfaces of 60 extracted mandibular second premolar. Specimens were randomly assigned to four groups (n=15) according to the remineralisation agents used: Group 1-Nano Hydroxyapatite, Group 2-Fluoride, Group 3-CPP ACP, Group 4-Chitosan 5mg. All products were applied according to the manufacturer's instructions and specimens were stored in daily renewed artificial saliva. Surface microhardness was assessed using Rockwell hardness test and change in mineral content was evaluated using Energy Dispersive X ray analysis. Statistical Analysis: One way analysis of Variance test and post-hoc Tukey test were conducted for multiple group comparison. Results: There was remarkable remineralisation in Hydroxyapatite treated comparatively to the other three groups. Conclusion: All remineralising agents showed improved surface remineralisation. However complete remineralisation did not occur within 7 days. Nanohydroxyapatite showed the highest potential for remineralisation followed by CPP-ACP, Chitosan and Fluoride.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To evaluate the effect of treatment with fluoridated toothpaste supplemented with a combination of sodium trimetaphosphate (TMP) and casein phosphopeptide-amorphous calcium phosphate (MI Paste Plus®) on the demineralization of dental enamel. METHODS Bovine enamel blocks selected by initial surface hardness (SHi) were randomly allocated into six groups (n = 12), according to the test toothpastes: (1) without F-TMP-MI Paste Plus® (Placebo); (2) 1100 ppm F (1100F); (3) MI Paste Plus®; (4) 1100F + MI Paste Plus® (1100F-MI Paste Plus), (5) 1100F + 3 % TMP (1100F-TMP); and (6) 1100F-TMP + MI Paste Plus® (1100F-TMP-MI Paste Plus). Blocks were treated two times per day with slurries of toothpaste (1 min), and groups 4 and 6 received an application of MI Paste Plus (3 min). Next, the samples were subjected to five pH cycles (demineralizing/remineralizing solutions) at 37 °C, to produce subsurface enamel lesions.Thereafter, the blocks were maintained for 2 days in fresh remineralizing solution. After pH cycling, the following were obtained: percentage of surface hardness loss (%SH); integrated loss of subsurface hardness (ΔKHN); profile analysis and lesion depth subsurface through polarized light microscopy (PLM); scanning electron microscopy (SEM); and fluoride (F), calcium (Ca), and phosphorus (P) in the enamel. The data were subjected to ANOVA (1-criterion), followed by the Student-Newman-Keuls test (p < 0.001). RESULTS The 1100F-TMP-MI Paste Plus group showed better results for SHR, ΔKHN, and PLM (p < 0.001). The F concentration was similar among all groups (p > 0.001). The 1100F-TMP-MI Paste Plus group showed the highest concentration of Ca and P in the enamel (p < 0.001). CONCLUSION The application of 1100F-TMP-MI Paste Plus promoted a higher inhibitory effect against enamel demineralization. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE The combination of treatments with F, TMP, and MI Paste Plus® can be an effective alternative to improve the oral health of individuals, especially those with high activity of dental caries and at high risk for its development.

Abstract
White spot lesions on teeth present as white opacities due to enamel surface and/or subsurface demineralisation. Unfortunately, dentistry has seen a marked jump in prevalence and severity of white spot lesions over the past decade. In response to the rise in white spot lesions, the dental industry has been pushed to create less invasive alternatives for the removal of these lesions, particularly when located anteriorly. There are numerous different causes of white spot lesions that influence how the enamel substructure is affected and which treatment option is selected. Once, the only treatment option for white spot lesions was drilling the defects away, but with a better understanding of the science and the aetiology, we have now been able to create minimally invasive, preventive alternatives. It is vital that the cause, size and depth of the white spot lesions are ascertained before providing treatment options to a patient, as treatment results will vary depending on the enamel substructure available. This paper will explore the main causes of white spot lesions and the recommended treatments for them.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the effect of orthodontic traction on the microstructure of dental enamel. METHODS Forty-eight isolated premolars were randomly divided into 6 groups (n=8), including Group A (blank control group), in which the teeth were bonded with the orthodontic brackets without any loading force; Groups B1, B2, and B3 where the teeth were bonded with the orthodontic brackets using clinical adhesives and loaded with 50 g force for 6 months, 200 g force for 6 months, and 200 g force for 1 month, respectively; and Groups C1 and C2, where the teeth were bonded with straight wire brackets using light curing bonding and chemical curing bonding techniques, respectively. All the teeth were embedded with non-decalcified epoxy resin. Scanning electron microscope (SEM), atomic force microscope (AFM), and energy spectrometer (EDS) were used to analyze interface morphology and elemental composition of the teeth sliced with a hard tissue microtome. RESULTS Compared with those in Group A, the teeth in the other 5 groups showed increased adhesive residue index with microcracks and void structures on the enamel surface under SEM; AFM revealed microcracks on the enamel surface with angles to the grinding direction. A larger loading force on the bracket resulted in more microcracks on the enamel interface. The interface roughness differed significantly between Groups A and C2, and the peak-to-valley distance differed significantly between Groups A, C, and C2. CONCLUSIONS Orthodontic traction can cause changes in the microstructure of normal dental enamel.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To compare the effect of use of laser, casein phosphopeptide-amorphous calcium phosphate (CPP-ACP), and their combination on prevention of enamel demineralization using polarized light microscopy to assess lesion depth. MATERIALS AND METHODS Eighty premolars were randomly allocated to four equal groups (n = 20): Group I: Control group, no preventive measures. Group II: CPP-ACP. Group III: Er,Cr:YSGG laser. Group IV: Er,Cr:YSGG laser followed by CPP-ACP. Specimens were subjected to thermocycling and brushing protocols equivalent to 1 year intraorally. Then, all teeth were subjected to acid challenge. Teeth were then sectioned longitudinally and examined under a polarized light microscope and lesion depth was measured. RESULTS Group IV resulted in the least lesion depth with a significant difference between it and all other groups. CPP-ACP alone and laser alone also showed a significant difference in white spot lesion (WSL) depth compared to the control group; however, no significant difference was found between them. CONCLUSIONS The combined use of laser and CPP-ACP showed the best prevention against WSL development. The use of CPP-ACP or laser alone also resulted in a significant reduction in lesion depth but was significantly less than their combined use, with no significant difference between them.

Abstract
Objectives This randomized controlled in vitro 4-arm trial study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of SoproLife® in detecting and quantifying in vitro remineralization with early caries lesions. Material and Methods Sixty human teeth were randomly assigned into four equal groups. Groups 1 and 2 were prophylactically cleaned; groups 3 and 4 were not. Group 1 received treatment with MI Varnish® and Recaldent™ for 30 days. Group 2 was treated similarly, but without MI Varnish®. Group 3 was treated as 1 and Group 4 as 2. Mineral composition was obtained using scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive X-ray analysis SoproLife® camera images on the occlusal surfaces were analysed for grey value distribution and difference in mean intensity values (DI). Paired t-test and Mann-Whitney-U test were used for intragroup comparison between baseline and T1. Kruskal-Wallis followed by Mann-Whitney-U tests were used for inter-group comparisons at T1. Results All groups exhibited a significant increase in calcium content and calcium-to-phosphorus ratio (P < 0.05), except Group 4 (Group 1 showed the greatest increase, then Groups 3 and 2). Grey intensity values decreased in all groups (P < 0.05). Group 1 showed the greatest change in DI (16.82 [SD 12.07]), followed by Group 3 (12.46 [SD 9.41]), 2 (10.45 [SD 7.76]), and 4 (6.46 [SD 6.21]). The difference in DI was different between the compared groups (P = 0.038); Groups 1 and 3 exhibited a greater DI compared with 4 (P < 0.01). Conclusions Within the limitations of this study, SoproLife® is effective for early detection and for longitudinally monitoring the remineralization after Recaldent™ therapy.
