Abstract
Cel pracyCelem badania pilotażowego było porównanie poziomu empatii wśród młodzieży leczonej w oddziale dziennym psychiatrycznym w grupach zróżnicowanych pod względem wieku, płci i rodzaju zaburzenia (zaburzeń zachowania i emocji oraz depresyjno-lękowych).MetodaBadanie przeprowadzono w grupie 117 adolescentów (69 dziewcząt oraz 48 chłopców) w wieku 13-20 lat leczonych w Oddziale Dziennym Klinicznym Kliniki Psychiatrii Dorosłych, Dzieci i Młodzieży SU w Krakowie w latach 2016-2021. Do badań wykorzystano Skalę Empatii Davisa oraz Skalę Empatii Cohena.WynikiDziewczęta osiągnęły istotnie wyższe wyniki w skalach Empatii Cohena i Davisa oraz w podskali Davisa: Osobistej Przykrości w porównaniu do chłopców. Zaobserwowano istotne statystycznie interakcje dla czynników płci i wieku oraz wieku i rodzaju zaburzenia. Starsi chłopcy w porównaniu do młodszych cechowali się znamiennie statystycznie wyższymi wynikami w skali empatii Davisa, natomiast u dziewcząt zaobserwowano odwrotną prawidłowość, która jednak nie osiągnęła istotności statystycznej. Starsi pacjenci z zaburzeniami zachowania osiągali istotnie niższe wyniki w skali Empatii Cohena w porównaniu do młodszych, w grupie pacjentów z zaburzeniami depresyjno-lękowymi zaobserwowano odwrotną prawidłowość, która jednak nie osiągnęła znamienności statystycznejWnioskiDziewczęta cechuje wyższy poziom empatii afektywnej i poznawczej niż chłopców. Nasilenie empatii zmienia się wraz z wiekiem w grupie chłopców (rośnie), dla dziewcząt otrzymane różnice nie są istotne statystycznie. Nasilenie empatii jest istotnie niższe w grupie starszych nastolatków z zaburzeniami zachowania i emocji w porównaniu do ich młodszych kolegów z tym samym rozpoznaniem. W grupie z zaburzeniami depresyjno-lękowymi odnotowano odwrotną, choć nieistotną prawidłowość. Otrzymane unikalne wyniki wskazują na różną trajektorię rozwoju empatii w grupie pacjentów z zaburzeniami zachowania oraz z zaburzeniami depresyjno-lękowymi.

Abstract
Recent studies suggest that impaired glutathione synthesis and dopaminergic transmission are important factors in the pathophysiology of schizophrenia. Moreover, some studies have suggested that antidepressants are able to increase the activity of atypical antipsychotics which may efficiently improve the treatment of negative and some cognitive symptoms of schizophrenia. In the present study, we investigated the influence of repeated co-treated with mirtazapine and aripiprazole on the schizophrenia-like behavior and brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) mRNA expression in adult rats exposed to glutathione deficit during early postnatal development. Between the postnatal days p5-p16, male pups were treated with the inhibitor of glutathione synthesis, BSO (L-buthionine-(S,R)-sulfoximine) and the dopamine uptake inhibitor, GBR 12909 alone or in combination. Mirtazapine and aripiprazole were given repeatedly, once daily for 21 days before the tests. The behavioral and biochemical tests were performed in p90-92 rats. BSO given alone and in combination with GBR 12909 induced deficits in the studied behavioral tests and decreased the expression of BDNF mRNA. Repeated aripiprazole administration at a higher dose reversed these behavioral deficits. Co-treatment with an ineffective dose of aripiprazole and mirtazapine also abolished the behavioral deficits and biochemical changes, especially in the hippocampus in these rats. The present study indicated that the inhibition of glutathione synthesis in early postnatal development induced long-term deficits corresponding to schizophrenia-like behavior and decreased the BDNF mRNA expression in adult rats, and these behavioural and biochemical deficits were reversed by repeated treatment with a higher dose of aripiprazole and also by co-treatment with an ineffective dose of aripiprazole and mirtazapine. The above data suggest that this neurodevelopment rat model of schizophrenia-induced by glutathione deficit evoked by repeated treatment with BSO alone and together with GBR 12909 in early postnatal life may be useful for studies on the pathomechanism of schizophrenia.

Abstract
Behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia (BPSD) include apathy, sleep problems, irritability, wandering, elation, agitation/aggression, and mood disorders such as depression and/or anxiety. Elderly patients are usually treated with second-generation antipsychotics; however, they present not enough efficacy against all symptoms observed. Hence, there still is an unmet need for novel pharmacotherapeutic agents targeted BPSD. A novel arylsulfonamide derivative ADN-1184 has been developed that possesses a preclinical profile of activity corresponding to criteria required for treatment of both psychosis and depressive symptoms of BPSD without exacerbating cognitive impairment or inducing motor disturbances. To broaden its pharmacological efficacy toward anxiety symptoms, its anxiolytic properties have been examined in common animal preclinical models in rats and mice. ADN-1184 significantly increased the number of entries into open arms measured in the elevated plus-maze test; however, it simultaneously increased parameters of exploratory activity. In the Vogel conflict drinking test, ADN-1184 dose-dependently and significantly increased the number of shocks accepted and the number of licks. Moreover, in mice, it also had specific anxiolytic-like activity in the four-plate test, and only negligible one at a specific mid-range dose measured in the spontaneous marble burying test. The obtained findings reveal that ADN-1184 displays anxiolytic-like activity in animal models of anxiety which employed punished stimuli. In its unusual combination of some anxiolytic action with already proven antipsychotic and antidepressant properties, and lack of any disruptive impact on learning and memory processes and motor coordination, ADN-1184 displays a profile that would be desired for a novel therapeutic for BPSD.

Abstract
We describe a novel class of designed multiple ligands (DMLs) combining serotonin 5-HT6 receptor (5-HT6R) antagonism with dopamine D2 receptor (D2R) partial agonism. Prototype hybrid molecules were designed using docking to receptor homology models. Diverse pharmacophore moieties yielded 3 series of hybrids with varying in vitro properties at 5-HT6R and D2R, and at M1 receptor and hERG channel antitargets. 4-(piperazin-1-yl)-1H-indole derivatives showed highest antagonist potency at 5-HT6R, with 7-butoxy-3,4-dihydroquinolin-2(1H)-one and 2-propoxybenzamide derivatives having promising D2R partial agonism. 2-(3-(4-(1-(phenylsulfonyl)-1H-indol-4-yl)piperazin-1-yl)propoxy)benzamide (47) exhibited nanomolar affinity at both 5-HT6R and D2R and was evaluated in rat models. It displayed potent antidepressant-like and anxiolytic-like activity in the Porsolt and Vogel tests, respectively, more pronounced than that of a reference selective 5-HT6R antagonist or D2R partial agonist. In addition, 47 also showed antidepressant-like activity (Porsolt's test) and anxiolytic-like activity (open field test) in aged (>18-month old) rats. In operant conditioning tests, 47 enhanced responding for sweet reward in the saccharin self-administration test, consistent with anti-anhedonic properties. Further, 47 facilitated extinction of non-reinforced responding for sweet reward, suggesting potential procognitive activity. Taken together, these studies suggest that DMLs combining 5-HT6R antagonism and D2R partial agonism may successfully target affective disorders in patients from different age groups without a risk of cognitive deficits.

Abstract
Abstract
Objectives
The purpose of this study was to investigate the central activity of the two new imidazo[2,1-f]purine-2,4-dione derivatives behaved as presynaptic 5HT1A receptor agonists and postsynaptic 5HT1A, 5HT2A and D2 receptors antagonists. The compounds were examined using animal tests towards antipsychotic, antidepressant- and anxiolytic-like properties and then compared with effects evoked by an atypical antipsychotic drug ziprasidone.
Methods
D-amphetamine-induced hyperactivity test was used to determine antipsychotic-like activity of compounds 7 and 9. The forced swim test (FST) and the four-plate test were conducted to investigate antidepressant- and antianxiety-like activity, respectively, of studied agents. The investigated compounds 7, 9 and ziprasidone were administered intraperitoneally 60 min before the tests. Diazepam and imipramine were used as standard anxiolytic and antidepressant drugs, respectively.
Key findings
The obtained results demonstrate that new synthesized compound 9 evokes antipsychotic-like activity alike ziprasidone and, in contrary to the antipsychotic drug, shows antidepressant- and anxiolytic-like properties in behavioural tests in mice.
Conclusions
The present preclinical results indicate that one of the two investigated imidazo[2,1-f]purine-2,4-dione derivatives, compound 9, with methyl group at 7 position of imidazo[2,1-f]purine-2,4-dione fragment and the ortho-OCH3 substituent in the aryl moiety, acts as an antipsychotic drug with additional antidepressant and anxiolytic properties.

Abstract
In order to target behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia (BPSD), we used molecular modeling-assisted design to obtain novel multifunctional arylsulfonamide derivatives that potently antagonize 5-HT(6/7/2A) and D2 receptors, without interacting with M1 receptors and hERG channels. In vitro studies confirmed their antagonism of 5-HT(7/2A) and D2 receptors and weak interactions with key antitargets (M1R and hERG) associated with side effects. Marked 5-HT6 receptor affinities were also observed, notably for 6-fluoro-3-(piperidin-4-yl)-1,2-benzoxazole derivatives connected by a 3-4 unit alkyl linker with mono- or bicyclic, lipophilic arylsulfonamide moieties. N-[4-[4-(6-Fluoro-1,2-benzoxazol-3-yl)piperidin-1-yl]butyl]benzothiophene-2-sulfonamide (72) was characterized in vitro on 14 targets and antitargets. It displayed dual blockade of 5-HT6 and D2 receptors and negligible interactions at hERG and M1 receptors. Unlike reference antipsychotics, 72 displayed marked antipsychotic and antidepressant activity in rats after oral administration, in the absence of cognitive or motor impairment. This profile is particularly attractive when targeting a fragile, elderly BPSD patient population.

Abstract
Myosin VI (MVI) is the only known myosin walking towards minus end of actin filaments and is believed to play distinct role(s) than other myosins. We addressed a role of this unique motor in secretory PC12 cells, derived from rat adrenal medulla pheochromocytoma using cell lines with reduced MVI synthesis (produced by means of siRNA). Decrease of MVI expression caused severe changes in cell size and morphology, and profound defects in actin cytoskeleton organization and Golgi structure. Also, significant inhibition of cell migration as well as cell proliferation was observed. Flow cytometric analysis revealed that MVI-deficient cells were arrested in G0/G1 phase of the cell cycle but did not undergo increased senescence as compared with control cells. Also, neither polyploidy nor aneuploidy were detected. Surprisingly, no significant effect on noradrenaline secretion was observed. These data indicate that in PC12 cells MVI is involved in cell migration and proliferation but is not crucial for stimulation-dependent catecholamine release.

Abstract
Inhibition of Rho-associated protein kinase (ROCK) activity in glioma C6 cells induces changes in actin cytoskeleton organization and cell morphology similar to those observed in other types of cells with inhibited RhoA/ROCK signaling pathway. We show that phosphorylation of myosin light chains (MLC) induced by P2Y₂ receptor stimulation in cells with blocked ROCK correlates in time with actin cytoskeleton reorganization, F-actin redistribution and stress fibers assembly followed by recovery of normal cell morphology. Presented results indicate that myosin light-chain kinase (MLCK) is responsible for the observed phosphorylation of MLC. We also found that the changes induced by P2Y₂ stimulation in actin cytoskeleton dynamics and morphology of cells with inhibited ROCK, but not in the level of phosphorylated MLC, depend on the presence of calcium in the cell environment.

Abstract
Recently, we found a 130-kDa myosin VI immunoanalog in amoeba, which bound to actin in an ATP-sensitive manner and in migrating amoebae colocalized to filamentous actin and dynamin II-containing vesicular structures. To further characterize this protein, we assessed its involvement in amoeba pinocytosis and phagocytosis. Confocal immunofluorescence microscopy and electron microscopy of immunogold-stained cells revealed that, in pinocytotic and phagocytotic amoebae, the myosin VI immunoanalog was visible throughout the cells, including pinocytotic channels and pinocytotic vesicles as well as phagosomes and emerging phagocytic cups. Blocking endogenous protein with anti-porcine myosin VI antibody (introduced into cells by means of microinjection) caused severe defects in pinocytosis and phagocytosis. In comparison with control cells, the treated amoebae formed ~75% less pinocytotic channels and phagocytosed ~65% less Tetrahymena cells. These data indicate that the myosin VI immunoanalog has an important role in pinocytosis and phagocytosis in Amoeba proteus (Pal.).

Abstract
Amoeba proteus and smaller by an order of magnitude (and evolutionary younger) Acanthamoeba castellanii have been for many years model cells for studies of amoeboidal (crawling) type of movement, characteristic also for some of metazoan cells such as fibroblasts, granulocytes and macrophages. Amoeboidal migration is indispensable of organization and dynamics of actin-based cytoskeleton. While there is a number of data on molecular mechanisms of motility of A. castellanii, there is very little known about bases of migration of A. proteus. Noteworthy, a large A. proteus (length approximately 600 microm) have been from over a century an object for studies on biology and physiology of cellular migration. This review describes the current knowledge on molecular aspects of force generation required for migration of these two amoebae and attempts to compare the functioning and regulation of actin cytoskeleton in these free-living unicellular species.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Pituitary adenomas occur rarely in childhood and adolescence. Pituitary adenoma predisposition (PAP) has been recently associated with germline mutations in the aryl hydrocarbon receptor interacting protein (AIP) gene. The aim of the study was to examine the proportion of germline AIP mutations in apparently sporadic paediatric pituitary adenomas. DESIGN Genomic DNA was analysed for mutations in the AIP gene, by PCR amplification and direct sequencing. PATIENTS A population-based cohort consisting of 36 apparently sporadic paediatric pituitary adenoma patients, referred to two medical centres in Italy, was included in the study. Patients were either less than 18 years at diagnosis, or showed clinical evidence of adenoma development before the age of 18 years. RESULTS A heterozygous in-frame deletion Y248del (c.742_744delTAC) was identified in one GH-secreting adenoma patient. Loss of heterozygosity (LOH) analysis of tumour DNA revealed the loss of the wild-type allele. First degree relatives carrying the mutation were clinically unaffected. CONCLUSIONS While mutations were absent in non-GH-secreting adenoma patients, germline AIP mutations can be found in children and adolescents with GH-secreting tumours, even in the absence of family history. The present study reports the AIP mutation analysis results on patients of a single ethnic origin. Clearly, further studies are needed to improve our knowledge on the role of AIP in paediatric pituitary adenomas.

Abstract
1,2,3,4-Tetrahydroisoquinolines, among them the most interesting neuroprotective substance, an inhibitor of MAO, 1-methyl-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoquinoline (1MeTIQ), are endogenous compounds present in the central nervous system of mammals and humans. In this study, we investigated the effect of 1MeTIQ on morphine-induced analgesia, tolerance and abstinence syndrome as well as its effect on morphine-induced changes in dopamine metabolism in rat brain structures (nucleus accumbens, striatum, substantia nigra) using HPLC methodology. The experiments were carried out on male Wistar rats. Morphine analgesia was measured in the "hot-plate" test. To induce tolerance, morphine was given chronically (20 mg/kg i.p.) alone or following 1MeTIQ (50 mg/kg i.p.) injection. The development of dependence was assessed in the naloxone (2 mg/kg i.p.) precipitation test, after 10 days of morphine administration. The behavioral studies have shown that an endogenous compound, 1MeTIQ produced strong potentiation of morphine analgesia, prevented the development of morphine tolerance and inhibited expression of morphine abstinence syndrome in morphine-dependent rats. In neurochemical studies, we have demonstrated that 1MeTIQ antagonized morphine-induced changes in dopamine metabolism observed in rat brain structures. The main finding of this study was demonstration for the first time of an anti-abuse effect of an endogenous compound, 1MeTIQ, and its efficiency in counteracting morphine-induced addiction in the way useful from clinical point of view. The obtained results suggested a possibility of clinical application of 1MeTIQ in morphine addiction.

Abstract
Pituitary adenomas are common neoplasms of the anterior pituitary gland. Germ-line mutations in the aryl hydrocarbon receptor-interacting protein (AIP) gene cause pituitary adenoma predisposition (PAP), a recent discovery based on genetic studies in Northern Finland. In this population, a founder mutation explained a significant proportion of all acromegaly cases. Typically, PAP patients were of a young age at diagnosis but did not display a strong family history of pituitary adenomas. To evaluate the role of AIP in pituitary adenoma susceptibility in other populations and to gain insight into patient selection for molecular screening of the condition, we investigated the possible contribution of AIP mutations in pituitary tumorigenesis in patients from Europe and the United States. A total of 460 patients were investigated by AIP sequencing: young acromegaly patients, unselected acromegaly patients, unselected pituitary adenoma patients, and endocrine neoplasia-predisposition patients who were negative for MEN1 mutations. Nine AIP mutations were identified. Because many of the patients displayed no family history of pituitary adenomas, detection of the condition appears challenging. Feasibility of AIP immunohistochemistry (IHC) as a prescreening tool was tested in 50 adenomas: 12 AIP mutation-positive versus 38 mutation-negative pituitary tumors. AIP IHC staining levels proved to be a useful predictor of AIP status, with 75% sensitivity and 95% specificity for germ-line mutations. AIP contributes to PAP in all studied populations. AIP IHC, followed by genetic counseling and possible AIP mutation analysis in IHC-negative cases, a procedure similar to the diagnostics of the Lynch syndrome, appears feasible in identification of PAP.

Abstract
We studied the distribution of the endogenous Arp2/3 complex in Amoeba proteus and visualised the ratio of filamentous (F-actin) to total actin in living cells. The presented results show that in the highly motile Amoeba proteus, Arp2/3 complex-dependent actin polymerisation is involved in the formation of the branching network of the contractile layer, adhesive structures, and perinuclear cytoskeleton. The aggregation of the Arp2/3 complex in the cortical network, with the exception of the uroid and advancing fronts, and the spatial orientation of microfilaments at the leading edge suggest that actin polymerisation in this area is not sufficient to provide the driving force for membrane displacement. The examined proteins were enriched in the pinocytotic pseudopodia and the perinuclear cytoskeleton in pinocytotic amoebae. In migrating amoebae, the course of changes in F-actin concentration corresponded with the distribution of tension in the cell cortex. The maximum level of F-actin in migrating amoebae was observed in the middle-posterior region and in the front of retracting pseudopodia. Arp2/3 complex-dependent actin polymerisation did not seem to influence F-actin concentration. The strongly condensed state of the microfilament system could be attributed to strong isometric contraction of the cortical layer accompanied by its retraction from distal cell regions. Isotonic contraction was limited to the uroid.

Abstract
Using scanning electron microscopy, Amoeba proteus cells migrating on the glass have been shown to develop dense coats of minipodia, which are discrete microprotrusions up to 8 microm long and approximately 0.5 microm across. They cover the middle-anterior area of the ventral cell surface, i.e. the region previously determined as the zone of most efficient adhesion of an amoeba to its substratum. Minipodia are sparse underneath the frontal zone and lacking from the tail region. In amoebae that adhere to the glass without moving, have just started moving, or show unstable motor polarity, minipodia are grouped in rosette contacts, cauliflower-like papillae composed of supporting platforms with crowns of minipodia emerging from them. Both structures abound with cytoskeletal F-actin, as shown by staining with fluorescein-conjugated phalloidin. Amoebae experimentally prevented from adhering to the substratum neither develop discrete minipodia nor rosette contacts.

Abstract
A compact device based on purge-and-trap multicapillary gas chromatography was developed for sensitive species-selective analysis of methylmercury and Hg2+ by atomic spectrometry. The operating mode includes in situ conversion of the analyte species to MeEtHg and HgEt2 and cryotrapping of the derivatives formed in a 0.53-mm-i.d. capillary, followed by their flash (< 30 s) isothermal low-temperature separation on a minimulticapillary (22 cm) column. The very low detection limits obtained (0.01 pg mL-1 of Hg for methylmercury) are due to the narrow injection band and reduced peak broadening in a bundle of 0.038-mm capillaries at high flow rates (> 60 mL min-1) compatible with an MIP AES detector (no dilution with a makeup gas is required). Developments regarding each of the steps of the analytical procedure and effects of operational variables (sample volume, purge flow, trap temperature, separation conditions) are discussed. The device allows speciation of MeHg+ and Hg2+ down to 5 pg g-1 in urine and, after a rapid microwave-assisted hydrolysis, down to 0.1 ng g-1 in solid biological samples with a throughput of 6 samples/h. The analytical protocols developed were validated by the analysis of DORM-1 (dogfish muscle), TORT-1 (lobster hepatopancreas), and Seronorm urine certified reference materials.

PURPOSE Severe hyponatremia is often associated with permanent brain damage. There has been substantial controversy about whether central pontine myelinolysis (CPM), a rare neurologic disorder of uncertain etiology, can complicate either hyponatremia or its therapy. This study was undertaken to determine how often hyponatremic patients with the clinical diagnosis of CPM actually have the disorder as an integral structural component of their encephalopathy. PATIENTS Analyses were carried out in 20 patients who had severe symptomatic hyponatremia and a presumptive diagnosis of CPM, based on clinical and/or neuroradiologic findings. All had been referred for neuroradiology consultation. The mean age (+/- SD) was 47 +/- 14 years, the lowest serum sodium level was 104 +/- 8 mM, and 85% of the patients were female. The etiologies were diverse and included postoperative status, thiazide diuretics, polydipsia, infection, acute renal failure, chronic alcoholism with emesis, and beer potomania. METHODS The original and subsequent films of 20 patients were reevaluated retrospectively by two neuroradiologists. The clinical course was also reevaluated, and in eight patients, the postmortem brain findings were reviewed. The diagnosis of CPM was made only on the basis of strict criteria relating to either (1) pathologic findings of CPM on postmortem examination; or (2) computed tomographic scan and/or magnetic resonance imaging findings diagnostic of CPM. RESULTS No pontine lesions were present in 15 of 20 patients in whom the diagnosis of CPM had initially been made. All 15 had extrapontine demyelinating lesions but the pons was normal. Two others had only lateral pontine lesions, so that only three of 20 patients had definite CPM. All but one of the 20 hyponatremic patients had a definite hypoxic event prior to any therapy with intravenous sodium chloride. The involved brain areas included basal ganglia, thalamus, cortical gray matter, and periventricular white matter, areas often affected by hypoxia. Each of the three patients in whom unequivocal findings of CPM were present had long histories of chronic alcoholism and hepatic cirrhosis. CONCLUSIONS These results suggest that: (1) Neither hyponatremic encephalopathy nor its therapy is commonly associated with CPM; (2) Patients with chronic alcoholism who also become hyponatremic can develop pontine demyelinating lesions; (3) Most patients with symptomatic hyponatremia who are diagnosed as having CPM in fact have diffuse cerebral demyelinating lesions with a normal pons; (4) The distribution of cerebral demyelinating lesions in patients with hyponatremic encephalopathy is compatible with hypoxic damage.

Abstract
Using the interference-contrast videomicroscopy the speed of cytoplasmic streaming was measured during the sequence of division stages in thigmotactically settled specimens of Paramecium bursaria. The speed of cytoplasmic flow gradually decreased during the first stages of binary fission and movement became indistinguishable at stage D(3). Almost at the same time cytoplasm started to move in the opposite direction, pushing or pulling the dividing micronucleus into the prospective posterior daughter cell and eventually stopped at stage D(5)-D(6). Further cell division events proceeded without detectable movement of cytoplasmic components. Cytoplasmic streaming in the normal interphase route was gradually restored in daughter cells about 30-40 min after cell separation. During the whole period of binary fission phagocytosis was arrested. Transportation and participation in the positioning of prospective micronuclei in daughter cells seems to be the main function of cytoplasmic streaming activity in cell division of Paramecium bursaria. The possible relationship between the stages of cytoskeleton transitions and the kinetics of cytoplasmic streaming associated with cell divison is discussed.

Abstract
In the group of 35 in-patients (30 female, 5 male) from the Department of Psychiatry, Medical Academy in Wrocław with depression resistant to antidepressive pharmacotherapy, the evaluation of ES therapy was made. The high efficacy (63% of full remissions) showed combined ES therapy with tricyclic antidepressants; only in 2 female and in 1 male patient there was no effect. At the same time neither serious side-effects nor complications were found, even in older patients.

Abstract
Acute thrombosis within the lumen of the intracranial artery may occasionally be demonstrated on precontrast CT. The hyperdensity follows the course of the occluded segment of the vessel and an area of low attenuation in the territory of the involved artery is usually present, consistent with infarction. Usually, a single vessel is involved; occlusion of multiple branches occurs less commonly. This report demonstrates a case of diffuse bilateral thrombosis of the main arteries of the anterior circle of Willis.

Abstract
A comparative study was carried out of the clinical usefulness and properties of two types (differing in the type of chalk used) of the following toothpastes: Nivea, Herbena, Salodent and four various Fluorodent toothpastes (differing in the type of calcium carbonate and thickener). The study was carried out on 100 students of the first classes of the Economics College in Poznań. The obtained results of clinical investigations justify the replacement (in part at least) in the production of toothpastes of the imported chalk Socal with Polish chalk from Janikowo.

Abstract
The HLA-B7/DR association was examined in a normal British population and in seven HLA-B7-positive patients with Felty's syndrome. After the exclusion of the most frequent A3-B7-DR2 association, a significant A2-B7-DR4 association was evident. This was present in six of the seven HLA-B7-positive Felty's patients and might indicate that the A2-B7-DR4 haplotype is prevalent in some forms of rheumatoid arthritis.

In order to examine the circulatory and bronchospasmolytic activity, new 7-beta-hydroxy-gamma-N4-alkylpiperazinopropyl-8- benzylaminotheophyllines (1, 2, 3) were synthesized and converted to the water soluble dihydrochlorides (1a, 2a, 3a). They showed hypotensive and bronchodilatory effect.

Abstract
The hemodialysis program was carried out in four male chronic schizophrenic patients hospitalized 3--12 months in the Psychiatric Clinic, Medical University, Wroclaw. The diagnosis was made independently by three psychiatrists. The disease lasted 5 to 26 years. The clinical assessment of mental and physical state followed each dialysis. The BPRS, CGI and Wing's Ward Behavior Scale were filled. Eleven to 20 dialyses were conducted once a week (two patients) or twice weekly (two patients). Neuroleptics were withdrawn. A short period of slight, unspecific improvement was followed by a deterioration in all cases, which made it necessary to put the patients back on neuroleptics. At the end of the dialysis program none of the patients improved. Further research on the efficacy of dialysis in chronic schizophrenia should be made before the final assessment of its value.
