Abstract
Objective: To investigate the mid-term efficacy of sacral nerve stimulation (SNS) for chronic constipation. Methods: A descriptive case series study was conducted. Patients with chronic constipation were treated in Xijing Hospital of Digestive Disease from February 2013 to December 2018 were retrospectively enrolled. The types of constipation were confirmed based on colon slow transit test, anorectal manometry and defecography in Xi'an Mayinglong Coloproctological Hospital. This study has been registered in China clinical trial registry (Registration No.: ChiCTR-ROC-16008945). Case inclusion criteria: (1) constipation was diagnosed according to Rome III criteria; (2) traditional treatment, including education, diet adjustment, laxative, biofeedback treatment, failed for at least 1 year; (3) there were no constipation-related organic diseases. After excluding neurogenic diseases, including spinal cord injury and multiple sclerosis, 21 patients were included in this study. There were 10 males and 11 females, with an average age of 50.9 (14-76) years. After the relevant examination and evaluation of patients, they underwent percutaneous nerve evaluation (PNE). If patient experienced a good response to PNE after 2 or 3 weeks (≥50%), permanent SNS implantation was performed. The improvement of clinical symptoms and quality of life between the baseline, PNE, and latest follow-up time points were compared. Improvement of clinical symptoms, including autonomic stool frequency per week, autonomic stool days per week, defecation time, visual analogue scale (VAS, lower score indicates more serious symptoms) score and Cleveland clinic constipation score (CCCS, higher score indacates more serious symptoms) criteria. The change of quality of life was scored by SF-36 questionnaires (the higher score indicates better quality of life). Results: Of 21 patients, 18 (85.7%) experienced significant improvement in symptoms with PNE, and 2 patients discontinued treatment due to their dissatisfaction. Sixteen patients (76.2%) received permanent SNS implantation, two of whom underwent bilateral PNE implantation. These patients were followed-up for mean 56 (34-72) months. The treatment was continuously effective in 13 patients (61.9%), including 3 of ODS, 1 of STC and 9 of mixed constipation. Compared with baseline, the score of constipation patients receiving permanent SNS implantation at latest follow-up was shown. The median autonomic stool frequency per week increased from 1.0 (0-7) to 7.5 (0-10) (P<0.001), the median autonomic stool days per week increased from 1.0 (0-7) d to 4.5 (0-7) d (P<0.001), the median defecation time decreased from 19.0 (8-40) minutes to 4.0 (3-31) minutes (P<0.001), the median CCCS decreased from 20.0 (13-30) to 9.0 (6-30) (P<0.001), and the median VAS score increased from 9.0 (7-40) to 80.0 (15-90) (P<0.001). The values of the 8 parts of the SF-36 questionnaire increased (all P<0.05). Conclusion: SNS implantation is safe and has obvious effects on severe constipation with stable mid-term efficacy.

Abstract
Objective: To assess the efficacy and safety of different opportunity of Saccharomyces boulardii (S. Boulardii) Sachets combined with bismuth quadruple therapy for Helicobacter pylori(H. pylori)eradication. Methods: This experiment was a prospective study. A total of 300 H. pylori-infected patients were enrolled and randomized assigned into three groups. Quadruple therapy group received pantoprazole 40 mg+bismuth potassium citrate capsule 220 mg+amoxicillin 1 000 mg+furazolidone 100 mg, bid, oral for 14 days. The simultaneous probiotic group received pantoprazole 40 mg+bismuth potassium citrate capsule 220 mg+amoxicillin 1 000 mg+furazolidone 100 mg+S. Boulardii Sachets 500 mg,bid,oral for 14 days.There after probiotic group:S.Boulardii Sachets was added on the first day after the end of 14 days in the quadruple group, for 500 mg, bid 14 days. The eradication rates and adverse reactions of the three groups were compared. Results: The eradication rates of H.pylori were 89.0%,90.4% and 91.3% in the quadruple therapy group, the simultaneous probiotic group and the there after probiotic group according to Per-protocol(PP) analysis,respectively,with no statistical difference (P=0.870). According to intention-to-treat(ITT)analysis, 81.0%, 85.0% and 84.0%, respectively, the difference was not statistically significant (P=0.732).The overall incidence of adverse reactions and the incidence of diarrhea and nausea in the simultaneous probiotic group, and the there after probiotic group were lower than those in the quadruple group(P<0.05),and the difference was statistically significant.The overall incidence of adverse reactions and diarrhea in the simultaneous probiotic were lower than those in the there after probiotic group (P=0.021, P=0.007), and the difference was statistically significant. Conclusions: S. Boulardii Sachets combined with quadruple therapy at the same time or after eradication treatment can not improve the H.pylori eradication rate,but can reduce the overall incidence of adverse reactions and the incidence of diarrhea and nausea. It is safer to add S. Boulardii Sachets at the same time than after eradication therapy.

Abstract
Panax japonicus( PJ) is a valuable medicinal plant belonging to the genus Panax of Araliaceae,the recumbent rhizome of which is widely used in clinic therapy,healthcare products and as cosmetic additives with functions of dissipating stasis,reducing swelling,stanching bleeding,and reinforcing deficiency,etc. PJ contains abundant levels of oleanane-and dammarane-type triterpene saponins,which are considered as the material basis for exerting pharmacodynamic action. Based on the previous researches,more than110 triterpene saponins have been reported from PJ. These triterpene saponins were summarized in this review,and could be classified into dammarenediol Ⅱ,protopanaxadiol,protopanaxatiol,ocotillol,oleanolic acid,ursolic acid and miscellaneous subtypes,according to their molecular skeletons in biosynthesis processes. Further more,the structural features of these triterpene saponins in the seven different subtypes,together with their~(13)C-NMR spectroscopic characteristics were described,hoping to provide available information for chemical diversity research of PJ.

Abstract
To research the effection and probable mechanism for the total saponins of Panax japonicas(TPSJ) in mice on non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. Forty SPF male Kunming mice were randomily divided into four group:control group,NAFLD group, low-dose TPSJ treated group,high-dose TPSJ treated group. High-fatty and high-frutose-diet was applied to eatablish NAFLD model,and TPSJ (100 and 200 mg·kg⁻¹) in feeding were given for the TPSJ groups for 4 weeks. To collect the serum with liver and the ALT and TC of serum were monitored after 4 weeks. The hepatic histopathologic structure was observed by haematoxylin-eosin (HE) staining, RT-PCR and RT-qPCR was applied for the detection of miR-199-5p,VEGFa,HGF,c-Met and protein expression level was detected bv laser confocal microscope.Compared with control group, the level of serum ALT and TC in the model group was higher,the liver of the model group showed that hepatocytes display obvious lipid deposition. Then TPSJ treated showed that markedly improved histopathologic changes, decreased fatty deposition. In the meantime,the expression level of miR-199-5p was significantly decreased, thus the expression of HGF and c-Met were significantly increased. TPSJ play a role of prevention on fatty liver, the machanism maybe by blocking miR-199-5p targeted to c-Met signaling pathways in NAFLD.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE The survival outcomes of patients with metastatic nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) differ significantly between individuals. This study aimed to evaluate whether serum lactic dehydrogenase (S-LDH) level had a clinical value in predicting clinical response and survival outcome for patients with metastatic NPC. METHODS S-LDH level was measured at baseline and then before every cycle of treatment in 689 NPC patients with distant metastases. Correlations of pre-treatment and post-treatment S-LDH levels to response of treatment and survival were analysed retrospectively. RESULTS Patients with elevated values of pre-treatment S-LDH (>245 IU/L) had significantly worse survival than those with normal values of pre-treatment S-LDH (≤245 IU/L) (P<0.001). Patients with elevated values of post-treatment S-LDH had worse survival compared with those with normal values of post-treatment S-LDH (P<0.001). Patients with normal values of pre-treatment and post-treatment S-LDH showed the highest response rate and the most favourable prognosis. CONCLUSION S-LDH appears to be a significant independent prognostic index in patients with disseminated NPC that should be considered in the comparison of the results achieved with different therapies and in planning new randomised clinical therapeutic trials.

Abstract
Dendritic spines are the principal recipients of excitatory synaptic inputs and the basic units of neural computation in the mammalian brain. Alterations in the density, size, shape, and turnover of mature spines, or defects in how spines are generated and establish synapses during brain development, could all result in neuronal dysfunction and lead to cognitive and/or behavioral impairments. That spines are abnormal in fragile X syndrome (FXS) and in the best-studied animal model of this disorder, the Fmr1 knockout mouse, is an undeniable fact. But the trouble with spines in FXS is that the exact nature of their defect is still controversial. Here, we argue that the most consistent abnormality of spines in FXS may be a subtle defect in activity-dependent spine plasticity and maturation. We also propose some future directions for research into spine plasticity in FXS at the cellular and ultrastructural levels that could help solve a two-decade-long riddle about the integrity of synapses in this prototypical neurodevelopmental disorder.

Abstract
Although epidural analgesia may provide adequate pain relief and minimize systemic side effects, long-term, even permanent placement of epidural catheter for chronic or cancer-related pain management carries a potential risk of both superficial and deep infection. The development of antibiotics microspheres that could be dwelled in epidural drug-delivery devices is likely to achieve a significant advance allowing antibiotics given by the intradiscal route to control catheter-related infections. In the present study, the composite microspheres composed of double-walled microcapsules and PLGA were constructed for encapsulating water-soluble antibiotics, cefazolin. The results show that these microspheres could efficiently control the initial release of drug, which was only 3.0% at 2 h. Cefazolin encapsulated in the composite microspheres released gradually nearly in a constant rate in the first 16 days, and still maintained a relative fast rate in the next 14 days, indicating that composite microspheres could improve the incomplete release of entrapped drugs.

Abstract
QTLs with epistatic effects and environmental interaction effects for final height of rice were studied by mixed-model based QTL mapping with a doubled haploid population from IR64/Azucena in four environments. The results demonstrated the importance of epistasis as a genetic basis of the quantitative traits and also revealed several important features of this phenomenon. In the results, 100 per cent of QTLs were involved in epistasis, of which 64 per cent were found with significant additive effects. This might mean that the usual estimates of the QTL additive effects could be confounded by epistatic interactions and result in biased estimation unless epistatic effect is separated. The other 36 per cent did not have any significant additive effects of their own but were involved in 48 per cent of the identified epistatic interactions. Such loci might play the role of modifying agents that tend to activate other loci or modify the action of other loci. The other features of epistasis include as follows: it was fairly common for the same locus to get involved in interactions with more than one locus; the QTLs with relatively high magnitude of effects might also be involved in epistasis; and epistasis was sensitive to environmental interactions for their expression. QTL x environment (QE) interaction effects were detected more often than QTL main effects for plant height behavior, as might indicate that gene expression could be greatly affected by environments.

Abstract
Complete diallel crosses with seven varieties of black pericarp rice were conducted in one year to analyze the genetic effects on main mineral elements of Fe, Zn, Mn and P contents in kernels of parents and their F1S and F2S, using the full genetic model including triploid endosperm, cytoplasmic and maternal effects on quantitative traits of seeds in cereal crops. The results indicated that the contents of all the four mineral elements were controlled by seed direct genetic effects, maternal genetic effects as well as by cytoplasmic effects. The seed direct genetic effects were more important than the maternal genetic effects for Fe, Zn, Mn contents, and seed direct additive effects constituted a major part of their genetic effects, whereas seed direct additive, maternal additive and dominant effects formed the main part in the inheritance of P content. The heritabilities of seed direct effects of the 4 mineral element contents were all highly significant. The estimate values of narrow heritabilites of seed direct genetic effects were high for Fe, Zn and Mn contents, while those of seed and maternal effects were intermediate for P content. Therefore, more attention should be paid to the single plant selection and single grain selection based on the seed mineral element contents of hybrid offspring.

Abstract
To study translocation of Xylella fastidiosa to citrus rootstocks, budsticks from citrus variegated chlorosis (CVC)-affected cv. Pera sweet orange (Citrus sinenesis (L.) Osb.) were top grafted on 15 citrus rootstocks. Disease symptoms were conspicuous 3 months later on all 15 rootstocks tested. The presence of X. fastidiosa was confirmed by light microscopy, double-antibody sandwich enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays, and polymerase chain reaction in rootlets and main roots of CVC-symptomatic Pera sweet orange in 11 of the 15 rootstocks tested. These results suggest that bacterial translocation from the aerial plant parts to the root system occurs but is not essential for X. fastidiosa to induce symptoms in the aerial parts. Bacterial translocation to the roots was not correlated with CVC leaf-symptom severity in the Pera scion. To determine if CVC disease could be transmitted by natural root grafts, two matched seedlings of each of four sweet orange cultivars (Pera, Natal, Valencia, and Caipira) were transplanted into single pots. One seedling rootstock of each pair was inoculated by top grafting with a CVC-contaminated budstick while the other seedling rootstock was cut but not graft inoculated. Transmission of X. fastidiosa from an inoculated plant to a noninoculated plant sharing the same pot was observed in all four sweet orange cultivars tested. Transmission was confirmed by observation of natural roots grafts between the two plants, presence of X. fastidiosa in the root grafts, and disease development in the uninoculated plants. This is the first report of transmission of CVC disease through natural root grafts.

Abstract
Xylitol has attracted much attention because of its many applications in the food, medicine and chemical industries. However the use has been limited by its high price. This coast is a result of the extensive purification steps needed for the preparation of a pure xylose solution, which is essential for the chemical process. The fermentative process of xylitol is an interesting alternative to conventional chemical process, since it does not require initial xylose purification. The present review describes the advantage of xylitol production by fermentation, xylitol-producting microorganisms, metabolic pathway of xylose in yeasts, detoxification of hemicellulose hydrolysates and fermentative conditions affecting xylitol production.
