Abstract
Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) refers to chronic inflammatory disorders of the gut. Ulcerative colitis (UC) and Crohn's disease (CD) are two subtypes of IBD. Evidence suggests that the intestinal microbiota plays a role in the pathogenesis of IBD, so probiotics have garnered a lot of interest as a potential treatment or prevention for IBD. However, clinical evidence of the efficacy of probiotics is still debatable. We performed a literature review. An advanced search considered clinical studies on probiotic for IBD from inception to 2023 in PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, and Web of Science. In the treatment of UC with probiotics, only Escherichia coli Nissle 1917 for maintenance treatment of UC in remission, and Bifidobacterium and VSL#3 for induction of remission in patients with mild to moderately active UC have shown strong evidence. Currently, there are no definitive conclusions regarding the effectiveness of probiotics in CD. The mechanism of probiotic treatment for IBD may be related to reducing oxidative stress, repairing the intestinal barrier, regulating intestinal flora balance, and modulating intestinal immune response. Differences in the benefits of probiotics between CD and UC may be attributable to the different lesion extent and immune-mediated pathophysiology. More robust randomized clinical trials are required to validate the efficacy and safety of diverse probiotic strains in IBD.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The aim of this research was to study the expression of anti-glutamate decarboxylase antibody (GADA), zinc transporter-8 autoantibody (ZnT8A), and insulinoma-associated protein-2 antibody (IA-2A) in patients with type 1 diabetes (T1DM) with thyroid disease (TD) and its correlation with thyroid autoantibodies. PATIENTS AND METHODS 380 patients with T1DM were included in the study, of which 313 patients with T1DM alone were included in the control group. In the TD group, 41 patients with T1DM and Hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT) were included, and 26 cases of T1DM patients with Graves' disease were included in the Graves group. The clinical features of the control group, the HT group, and the Graves group were compared. The positive rates of insulin autoantibodies in the control group and the TD group were analyzed. The clinical characteristics of patients with and without insulin autoantibody positivity were compared. The positive rates of thyroid autoantibodies in T1DM patients with positive GADA, ZnT8A, IA-2A, and different numbers of positive insulin autoantibodies were analyzed. RESULTS The levels of total cholesterol (TC) and thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) in the HT group were significantly higher than those in the control and Graves groups, and the levels of free thyroid hormone (FT4) and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) were significantly lower than those in the control and Graves groups (p<0.001). The levels of TC and TSH in the Graves group were significantly lower than those in the control group, the levels of HbA1c, LDL-C, and FT4 were significantly higher than those in the control group, and the levels of FT3 were significantly higher than those in the control and HT groups (p<0.001). The levels of C peptide, triglyceride (TG), and LDL-C of insulin autoantibodies positive patients were significantly lower than those of negative patients (p<0.05). The positive rates of GADA, ZnT8A, and IA-2A in the TD group, as well as the positive rates of double antibodies and triple antibodies, were significantly higher than those of the control group (p<0.05). In T1DM patients, the positive rates of thyroid peroxidase antibody (TPOAb) and thyroglobulin antibody (TGAb) in GADA and IA-2A-positive patients were significantly higher than those in GADA and IA-2A-negative patients (p<0.05). The positive rate of TPOAb in ZnT8A-positive patients was significantly higher than that in ZnT8A-negative patients (p<0.05). The positive rates of TRAb, TPOAb, and TGAb in T1DM patients positive for two of the three insulin autoantibodies and three insulin autoantibodies were significantly higher than those positive for one of the three insulin autoantibodies (p<0.001). CONCLUSIONS TD can exacerbate the disorder of glucose and lipid metabolism in patients with T1DM, and multiple insulin autoantibodies positive T1DM patients it is more likely to have thyroid autoantibody positivity. It is suggested that patients with aggravated glucose and lipid metabolism and multiple insulin autoantibody positivity should be routinely screened for thyroid antibodies to help early diagnosis of TD.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Sepsis is an infection-caused syndrome, that leads to life-threatening organ damage. We aim to develop machine learning models with large-scale data to predict sepsis patients' mortality. DESIGN we extracted sepsis patients from two databases, Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care IV (MIMIC-IV) as a train set and Philips eICU Collaborative Research Database as a test set. SETTING ICUs in multicenter hospitals in the USA during 2012-2019. PATIENTS OR PARTICIPANTS A total of 21,680 sepsis-3 patients are included in the study, in which, 3771 patients were dead and 17,909 survived during hospitalization, respectively. INTERVENTIONS No interventions. MAIN VARIABLES OF INTEREST Basic information, examination items during hospitalization and some medication and treatment information are incorporated into analyzed. Seven different models were built with a Support vector machine, Decision Tree Classifier, Random Forest, Gradients Boosting, Multiple Layer Perception, Xgboost, light Gradients Boosting to predict dead or live during hospitalization. RESULTS Algorithms with an AUC value in the test set of the top three: light GBM, GBM, Xgboost. Considering the performance of the training set and the test set, the light GBM model performs best, and then the parameters of the model were adjusted, after that the AUC value was 0.99 in the train set, 0.96 in the test set, respectively. CONCLUSIONS Models built with light GBM algorithm from real-world sepsis patients from electronic health records accurately predict whether sepsis patients are dead and can be incorporated into clinical decision tools to enhance the prognosis of the patient and prevent adverse outcomes.

Abstract
B cells play a vital role in the elimination of periodontal pathogens, the regulation of the immune response, and the induction of tissue destruction. However, the role of B cells in the dysfunction of mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) differentiation to osteoblasts in periodontitis (PD) has been poorly studied. Here we show that the frequency of CD45-CD105+CD73+ MSCs in inflamed periodontal tissues is significantly decreased in patients with PD compared with that of healthy controls. CD19+ B cells dominate the infiltrated immune cells in periodontal tissues of patients with PD. Besides, B-cell depletion therapy reduces the alveolar bone loss in a ligature-induced murine PD model. B cells from PD mice express a high level of TGF-β1 and inhibit osteoblast differentiation by upregulating p-Smad2/3 expression and downregulating Runx2 expression. The inhibitory effect of PD B cells on osteoblast differentiation is reduced by TGF-β1 neutralization or Smad2/3 inhibitor. Importantly, B-cell-specific knockout of TGF-β1 in PD mice significantly increases the number of CD45-CD105+Sca1+ MSCs, ALP-positive osteoblast activity, and alveolar bone volume but decreases TRAP-positive osteoclast activity compared with that from control littermates. Lastly, CD19+CD27+CD38- memory B cells dominate the B-cell infiltrates in periodontal tissues from both patients with PD and patients with PD after initial periodontal therapy. Memory B cells in periodontal tissues of patients with PD express a high level of TGF-β1 and inhibit MSC differentiation to osteoblasts. Thus, TGF-β1 produced by B cells may contribute to alveolar bone loss in periodontitis, in part, by suppressing osteoblast activity.

Abstract
Background Moxibustion is a potential therapy for inflammatory bowel disease-related depression, but its specific mechanism of action is unclear. This study aimed to investigate the molecular mechanism by which moxibustion alleviates depressive behavior in rats with Crohn's disease (CD). Methods The CD rat model was established with 2,4,6-trinitrobenzenesulfonic acid. Treatment with moxibustion was applied to Tianshu (ST25, bilateral), Qihai (CV6), and Baihui (GV20) acupoints, and the effect of moxibustion was compared with that of the combination of moxibustion plus indoleamine-2,3-dioxygenase 1 (IDO1) inhibitor, 1-methyltryptophan (1-MT). The effects of moxibustion and moxibustion plus 1-MT combination on colonic inflammation and depressive behavior (assessed by forced swimming test, sucrose preference test, and open field test) were investigated. The changes in IDO1, TNF-α, and IL-1β in rat colon and hippocampus were assessed by Western blot (WB). Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry, immunofluorescence staining, and WB were applied to detect kynurenine pathway (KP) metabolites, hippocampal neuronal activity, and microglia activation, respectively. Results Both moxibustion and moxibustion plus 1-MT combination significantly alleviated intestinal inflammation and depressive behavior, downregulated the levels of IDO1 in the colon and hippocampus, and inhibited inflammation-inducing factors IL-1β and TNF-α, as well as the kynurenine/tryptophan (KYN/TRP) ratio of KP metabolites, and upregulated the kynurenic acid (KYNA)/KYN ratio and the KYNA/quinolinic acid (QUIN) ratio in the hippocampus in rats with CD; Hippocampal ionized calcium-binding adaptor molecule-1 (Iba-1), c-fos protein expression, activated microglia, and neuronal activation was also significantly reduced by moxibustion and moxibustion plus 1-MT. The addition of 1-MT did not significantly increase the therapeutic effect of moxibustion. Conclusion Moxibustion can improve depressive behavior in rats with CD, which may be related to its regulation of KP metabolism in the gut-brain axis and inhibition of hippocampal microglia activation and neuronal activation.

Abstract
ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE Moxibustion therapy is a traditional Chinese medicine external treatment method, which involves crushing dried herb Artemisia argyi H. Lév. & Vanio and rolling it into a long cigarette-like strip, igniting it and using its warmth to stimulate specific acupuncture points for a certain period of time. It is often used in Asia to treat various diseases, especially abdominal pain. Clinical reports suggest that acupuncture and moxibustion are the effective treatment for Irritable Bowel Syndrome with Diarrhea (IBS-D). However, there is no placebo-controlled study to prove its safety and efficacy. OBJECTIVE To evaluate the effects of mild moxibustion (MM) for the treatment of irritable bowel syndrome with diarrhea (IBS-D) through comparisons with those of placebo moxibustion. PATIENTS AND METHODS This was a single-site, randomized controlled trial was conducted at Shanghai Research Institute of Acupuncture and Meridian in China and enrolled 76 participants who met the Rome IV diagnostic criteria for IBS-D between May 2017 and December 2019. 76 participants were randomized to either mild moxibustion (MM) or placebo moxibustion group (PM) in a 1:1 ratio. 18 sessions of MM or PM were implemented over the course of 6 weeks (3 times per week). The primary outcome was adequate relief after 6 weeks of treatment. RESULTS Of 76 patients with IBS-D who were randomized (38 in the MM group and 38 in the PM group) were included in the intention-to-treat (ITT) analysis set. After treatment at week 6, the response rate was significantly higher in the MM group than the PM group (81.58% vs. 36.84%) with an estimated difference of 44.74 (95% CI, 23.46 to 66.02, P < 0.001). No participant reported severe adverse effects. CONCLUSION The findings suggest that mild moxibustion may be more effective than placebo moxibustion for the treatment of IBS-D, with effects lasting up to 12 weeks. Abstract
BACKGROUND The efficacy and mechanisms of acupuncture for Crohn's disease (CD) are not well understood. We investigated its effects on symptoms, intestinal microbiota, and circulating inflammatory markers in CD patients. METHODS This 48-week, randomized, sham controlled, parallel-group clinical trial was performed at a tertiary outpatient clinic in China. From April 2015 to November 2019, 66 patients (mean age 40·4, 62·1% were male, all were Han Chinese) with mild to moderate active CD and unresponsive to drug treatment were enrolled and randomly assigned equally to an acupuncture group or a sham group. The treatment group received 3 sessions of acupuncture plus moxibustion per week for 12 weeks and a follow-up of 36 weeks. Clinicaltrials.gov: NCT02559037. FINDINGS At week 12, the clinical remission rate (the primary outcome) and clinical response rate of acupuncture group were significantly higher than that of sham group, with a difference of 42·4% (95% CI: 20·1%-64·0%) and 45·5% (95% CI: 24·0%-66·9%), respectively, both of which maintained at week 48. The acupuncture group had significantly lower CD activity index and C-reactive protein level at week 12, which maintained at 36-week follow-up. The CD endoscopic index of severity, histopathological score, and recurrence rate at week 48 were significantly lower in acupuncture group. The number of operational taxonomic unit of intestinal microbiota and relative abundance of Faecalibacterium prausnitzii and Roseburia faecis were increased. Plasma diamine oxidase, lipopolysaccharide, and Th1/Th17 related cytokines were decreased in 12-week after acupuncture. INTERPRETATION Acupuncture was effective in inducing and maintaining remission in patients with active CD, which was associated with increased abundance of intestinal anti-inflammatory bacteria, enhanced intestinal barrier, and regulation of circulating Th1/Th17-related cytokines. Abstract
BACKGROUND Moxibustion is increasingly used for treatment of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). This study investigated the long-term effects of moxibustion for IBS with diarrhea (IBS-D). METHODS Patients with IBS-D were assigned to receive moxibustion or sham moxibustion (52 each, 3× per week, 6 weeks) and were followed up to 24 weeks. The acupoints were bilateral ST25 and ST36, body surface temperatures at acupoints were 43°C ± 1°C and 37°C ± 1°C for the moxibustion and sham groups, respectively. Primary outcome was changes in IBS Adequate Relief (IBS-AR) from baseline to 6 weeks. Secondary outcomes included the following: IBS symptom severity scale (IBS-SSS), Bristol stool form scale (BSS), IBS quality of life (IBS-QOL), and Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS). RESULTS Based on an intention-to-treat analysis, the rate of IBS-AR in the moxibustion group was significantly higher than the sham group at 6 weeks (76.9% versus 42.3%; p < 0.001); the mean decrease of total IBS-BSS score in the moxibustion group was lower than that of the sham group (-116.9 versus -61.5; p < 0.001), both of which maintained throughout the follow-up period. Five specific domains of the IBS-SSS were lower in the moxibustion group than the sham, throughout (p < 0.001). At week 6, the rate of reduction >50 points in IBS-SSS of the treatment group was significantly higher than that of the sham (p < 0.001), which persisted throughout the follow-up period. Similar long-lasting improvements were observed in BSS, stool frequency, and stool urgency (p < 0.001). Improvements of IBS-QOL and HADS were comparable between the groups. CONCLUSIONS Moxibustion treatment benefits the long-term relief of symptoms in IBS-D patients. TRIAL REGISTRATION Clinical trials.gov (NCT02421627). Registered on 20 April 2015.

Abstract
African swine fever virus (ASFV) can infect domestic pigs and wild boars and causes huge economic losses in global swine industry. Therefore, early diagnosis of ASFV is important for the control and eradication of African swine fever (ASF). In this study, a SYBR Green-based real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assay targeting the viral encoded A137R gene was established for the detection of ASFV infection. For the evaluation of the established real-time PCR, 34 clinical samples were assessed by both the A137R gene-based real-time PCR and OIE-recommended TaqMan PCR. The results showed that 85.29% (29/34) were detected by A137R gene-based real-time PCR, but only 79.41% (27/34) positive using OIE-recommended TaqMan PCR. Moreover, no cross-reaction with other common swine pathogens was found in the A137R gene-based real-time PCR. These results demonstrated that the established real-time PCR assay in this study showed better performance than the OIE-recommended method in detecting ASFV from clinical samples, which could be applied for control and eradication programs of ASF.

Abstract
Background:Clinical efficacy and safety of golimumab (GLM) for patients with ankylosing spondylitis (AS) who have not received prior biologic therapy were studied in two phase-3 clinical trials (NCT00265083 - GO RAISE and NCT01248793). In both studies, a greater proportion of patients treated with GLM 50 mg every 4 weeks achieved improvement in clinical signs and symptoms measured by ASAS20 and in patient-reported outcomes, such as Health Related Quality of Life (HRQoL) and sleep disturbance when compared with placebo (PBO) at Weeks 14 and 24.Objectives:To assess the effect of GLM on HRQoL, back pain, and sleep disturbances in phase-3 studies in Asian patients with AS.Methods:Post-hoc sub-analysis to examine HRQoL, measured with the Short Form 36 (SF-36) Physical and Mental Component Summary (PCS and MCS), total back pain (VAS) and sleep disturbance, assessed with the Jenkins Sleep Evaluation Questionnaire (JSEQ) in active AS patients enrolled from Asian countries (China, including Taiwan region and South Korea). Improvement from baseline to Week 24 was expressed as mean and standard deviation (SD) for SF-36 PCS and MCS and total back pain. Reduction of sleep disturbance was expressed as the proportion of patients with improvement from baseline ≥2 points in the JSEQ, defined as baseline value minus post-baseline value with lower scores indicating the better sleep evaluation.Results:At Week 24, active AS patients treated with GLM 50 mg had greater mean improvements in SF-36 and total back pain than PBO. The pooled results were comparable with patients enrolled from other regions (Table 1). A higher proportion of Asian patients who received GLM had reduced sleep disturbance (JSEQ ≥2) after 24 weeks than PBO (59.7% [83/139] vs 38.5% [47/122]; Δ21.2) and the results were similar with AS patients on GLM (67.4% [64/95] vs 45.6% [26/57]; Δ21.8) pooled from other regions.Conclusion:Asian patients with AS treated with GLM demonstrated improved HRQoL, total back pain, and reduced sleep disturbance. Abstract
Background:Iguratimod (IGU) has demonstrated efficacy and safety for active rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients in double-blind clinical trials in China and Japan as a new disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drug (DMARD). There are no studies evaluating the radiographic progression of structural joint damage of IGU for the treatment of RA using the mTSS as the primary endpoint.Objectives:Our study was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of IGU monotherapy and IGU combined methotrexate (MTX) compared with MTX monotherapy, including the inhibitory effects of joint destruction.Methods:This randomized, double-blind, parallel-controlled, multicenter study in patients with active RA who have not previously used MTX and biological DMARDs (bDMARDs) (ClinicalTrials.gov Identifier NCT01548001) was carried out in China. Patients were randomized 1:1:1 to receive IGU 25 mg twice a day (bid), MTX 10mg once a week(qw) for the first 4 weeks and 15 mg once a week(qw) for week 5 to 52, or IGU combined MTX (IGU+MTX) for 52 weeks. The primary endpoints were to assess and compare American College of Rheumatology 20% (ACR20) response and the change of modified total Sharp scoring (mTSS) score over 52 weeks (Intention-to-treat, ITT analysis). The non-inferiority test was used to analyze the difference of ACR20 response at 52 weeks between the IGU monotherapy and the MTX monotherapy arms, and the non-inferiority limit value was 10%. The difference test was used for the comparison between the IGU+MTX and MTX monotherapy arms. Two-way ANOVA was used to analyze the difference of the changes of mTSS score of each arm compared with baseline value (0 week).Results:A total of 895 patients were randomized to IGU 25mg bid (n =297), MTX 10-15mg qw(n=293), and IGU+MTX (n=305). More concretely, IGU monotherapy and IGU+MTX were found to be superior to MTX at week 52 with a higher ACR20 response of 77.44%(230/297, P=0.0019) and 77.05%(235/305, P=0.0028) versus 65.87%(193/293) (fig 1). As shown in fig 1, the structural remission (ΔmTSS≤0.5) was statistically significant for IGU monotherapy (57.4%, P=0.0308) but not for IGU+MTX arm (55%) versus MTX monotherapy (47.8%).Overall incidence of the adverse events (AEs) leading to study discontinuation were reported in 13.8% (41/297) in IGU monotherapy arm, 11.26% (33/293) in MTX monotherapy arm and 11.51% (35/305) patients in IGU+MTX arm. The incidence of adverse drug reactions (ADR) leading to study discontinuation were 11.45% (34/297), 8.53% (25/293) and 9.21% (28/305), respectively. There was no one death and no significant difference in all the safety indicators among the three arms.Conclusion:Iguratimod alone or in combination with MTX demonstrated superior efficacy with acceptable safety compared to MTX for patients with active RA who have not previously used MTX bDMARDs.Disclosure of Interests:None declared

Abstract
Crohn's disease (CD), a chronic inflammatory bowel disease, involved in brain structural and functional changes, including the amygdala. Amygdala is a key structure in the limbic system and its related circuits are implicated in processing of emotion, pain and sensory. However, limited study of the amygdala is elucidated in CD. This study mainly investigated altered functional connectivity (FC) of the amygdala in CD patients during resting-state. Magnetic resonance imaging scans were acquired from 42 CD patients and 35 healthy controls (HCs). Whole amygdala bilaterally were selected as regions of interest (ROIs). Voxel-based morphometry and FC methods were applied to investigate the differences of structure or intrinsic connectivity of the amygdala between the two groups, separately. Pearson correlations were performed to explore relationships between the clinical characteristics and neuroimaging findings in CD patients. Based on the whole amygdala bilaterally as ROIs, compared with HCs, CD patients showed no statistical differences of grey matter destiny but exhibited decreased FC between the amygdala and insula, parahippocampus, as well as anterior middle cingulate cortex/dorsal anterior cingulate cortex. CD patients had negative correlation between the disease duration and amygdala-insula connectivity. In the patient group, patients with higher anxiety or depression scores revealed increased FC of the amygdala with thalamus and orbitofrontal cortex. Our results reveal that aberrant FC of the amygdala may be involved in processing of visceral pain and sensation, and emotion in CD. These findings may further enhance the understanding of neural mechanisms of CD.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Hydrogen was proven to have anti-oxidative and anti-inflammation effects to various diseases. AIM We wish to investigate the acute effects of inhaled hydrogen on airway inflammation in patients with asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). DESIGN Prospective study. METHODS In total, 2.4% hydrogen containing steam mixed gas (XEN) was inhaled once for 45 min in 10 patients with asthma and 10 patients with COPD. The levels of granulocyte-macrophage colony stimulating factor, interferon-γ, interleukin-1β (IL-1β), IL-2, IL-4, IL-6 and so on in peripheral blood and exhaled breath condensate (EBC) before and after 'XEN' inhalation were measured. RESULTS 45 minutes 'XEN' inhalation once decreased monocyte chemotactic protein 1 level in both COPD (564.70-451.51 pg/mL, P = 0.019) and asthma (386.39-332.76 pg/mL, P = 0.033) group, while decreased IL-8 level only in asthma group (5.25-4.49 pg/mL, P = 0.023). The level of EBC soluble cluster of differentiation-40 ligand in COPD group increased after inhalation (1.07-1.16 pg/mL, P = 0.031), while IL-4 and IL-6 levels in EBC were significantly lower after inhalation in the COPD (0.80-0.64 pg/mL, P = 0.025) and asthma (0.06-0.05 pg/mL, P = 0.007) group, respectively. CONCLUSIONS A single inhalation of hydrogen for 45 min attenuated inflammatory status in airways in patients with asthma and COPD.

Abstract
Background:Treating to target (T2T) is routine in RA, but no comparable standard has been defined for SLE. In 2015, the definition of Lupus Low Disease Activity State (LLDAS) was generated by Asia-Pacific Lupus Collaboration, and the preliminary validation demonstrated its attainment to be associated with improved outcomes in SLE. A SLEDAI-2K score lower than 4 is the main criteria for LLDAS. SSDM is an interactive mobile disease management application, including application systems for both the doctors and patients.Objectives:To evaluate the patterns of T2T and related influential factors among SLE patients after applying SSDM in real world.Methods:Patients were trained to master SSDM by healthcare professionals in clinics. The first assessment for SLEDAI-2K was performed as the baseline. Patients were required to perform repeated self-assessments after leaving the clinics. The data is synchronized to the SSDM of authorized rheumatologists. Based on the patients’ data, rheumatologists will provide medical advices to the patients.Results:From July 2015 to Jan 2020, 32,559 SLE patients enrolled in SSDM. The mean age is 36.35 years old and median disease duration is 3.85 years. Among T2T achievers at the baseline, 78.85% (820/1,040) maintained T2T, and 21.15% (220/1,040) relapsed. Of patients who didn’t achieve T2T at baseline, 56.41% (506/897) of the patients achieve T2T after 12-month follow-up.The impact of the online interaction and the frequency of self-assessment for SLEDAI-2K on T2T has been analyzed. Compared with 1,475 patients who didn’t interact online with their physicians through SSDM, 462 patients with online interaction achieved higher rate of T2T improvement (19.48% vs 13.29%, p<0.05). The more frequent of the self-assessments being performed by patients, the higher improvement of T2T rate will be. The improvement rates of T2T in the subgroups which self-assessed with SSDM by quarterly, bimonthly and monthly were 8.56%, 16.14% and 23.24% respectively. The improvement rate (y) of T2T was positively correlated with the frequency of self-assessment for SLEDAI-2K(x) independently, r = 0.9998. (Figure 1)Conclusion:After proactive disease management via SSDM for more than 12 months, the rate of T2T in SLE patients increased significantly. Online interaction between patients and physicians contributed in promoting T2T improvement rate. The patients who performed more self-assessments through SSDM had higher probability of T2T achievement. Abstract
INTRODUCTION Constipation is one of the most common non-motor symptoms in Parkinson's disease (PD). Acupuncture can have a positive on chronic functional constipation and PD, but its efficacy for the treatment of constipation in PD has not yet been confirmed by high-quality clinical trials. Therefore, this study aims to evaluate the efficacy and safety of electroacupuncture (EA) in the treatment of constipation in PD. METHODS AND ANALYSIS This study is a multicentre randomised controlled trial. A total of 124 qualified patients with PD and constipation will be randomly divided into the intervention group (62 participants will receive 12 weeks of EA +usual care) or the waitlist control group (62 participants will receive 12 weeks of usual care). EA will be performed three times per week from weeks 1-8, two times per week during weeks 9 and 10, and once a week during weeks 11 and 12. The primary outcome is the change in mean weekly spontaneous bowel movements from baseline to weeks 8 and 9. The secondary outcomes are the changes from baseline in mean weekly bowel movements, mean weekly stool consistency, and mean weekly straining. Other secondary outcomes include the weekly doses of defecation drugs, Visual Analogue Scale for subjective improvements in stool symptoms, Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale, and the time and number of steps required to walk 20 m. Outcomes will be assessed at baseline, week 4, 8, 12 (intervention period); as well as at week 16, 24 (follow-up period). ETHICS AND DISSEMINATION Ethical approval has been obtained from four local ethics committees. The results of the study will be published in peer-reviewed journals and will be disseminated through national and international conferences. TRIAL REGISTRATION NUMBER ChiCTR1900021053.

Abstract
Our goal was to evaluate alveolar bone healing in OVX mice, and to assess the functional utility of a WNT-based treatment to accelerate healing in mice with an osteoporotic-like bony phenotype. INTRODUCTION Is osteoporosis a risk factor for dental procedures? This relatively simple question is exceedingly difficult to answer in a clinical setting, for two reasons. First, as an age-related disease, osteoporosis is frequently accompanied by age-related co-morbidities that can contribute to slower tissue repair. Second, the intervals at which alveolar bone repair are assessed in a clinical study are often measured in months to years. This study aimed to evaluate alveolar bone repair in ovariectomized (OVX) mice and provide preclinical evidence to support a WNT-based treatment to accelerate alveolar bone formation. METHODS OVX was performed in young mice to produce an osteoporotic-like bone phenotype. Thereafter, the rate of extraction socket healing and osteotomy repair was assessed. A liposomal WNT3A treatment was tested for its ability to promote alveolar bone formation in this OVX-induced model of bone loss. RESULTS Bone loss was observed throughout the murine skeleton, including the maxilla, and mirrored the pattern of bone loss observed in aged mice. Injuries to the alveolar bone, including tooth extraction and osteotomy site preparation, both healed significantly slower than the same injuries produced in young controls. Given sufficient time, however, all injuries eventually healed. In OVX mice, osteotomies healed significantly faster if they were treated with L-WNT3A. CONCLUSIONS Alveolar bone injuries heal slower in OVX mice that exhibit an osteoporotic-like phenotype. The rate of alveolar bone repair in OVX mice can be significantly promoted with local delivery of L-WNT3A.

Abstract
Abstract
Overexpression of HER2 occurs in approximately 20% of breast cancers and is associated with shortened survival. Trastuzumab emtansine (T-DM1), an anti-HER2 ADC, has shown efficacy in HER2-positive breast cancer patients and was approved by the FDA and EMA for advanced HER2-positive breast cancer. However T-DM1 causes grade 3 and 4 thrombocytopenia in up to 14.5% of patients as its major toxicity. The thrombocytopenia is likely caused by one of T-DM1's catabolites and payload, DM1, indicating T-DM1's linker can be cleaved. Here we adopted a novel noncleavable linker and created an anti-HER2 ADC, BAT8001, which is expected be efficacious in HER2-positive breast cancer and have a better side effect profile relative to T-DM1 due to the stability of BAT8001's noncleavable linker. BAT8001 is internalized in HER2-positive cancer cells. It inhibits proliferation of HER2-positive tumor cells with IC50s of ˜0.1 nM, similar to the potency of T-DM1. BAT8001 also induces apoptosis in HER2-positive cancer cells. In both cell-line and patient-derived mouse xenograft (PDX) models, BAT8001 demonstrates strong inhibition activity on tumor growth. For example, in a cell-line model of breast cancer (BT474), BAT8001 demonstrates potent activity with complete responses in all animals tested at the 15mg/kg dose level. Pharmacokinetics studies in monkey reveals BAT8001 has similar Cmax, AUC, and t1/2 as T-DM1. The major catabolite of BAT8001 is the Cys-linker-payload containing product. No free payload is observed. This compares favorably with T-DM1 where free DM1, T-DM1's payload, is one of the major catabolites. In a multiple dose toxicity study, BAT8001 had a NOAEL of 15 mg/kg versus 10 mg/kg for T-DM1. BAT8001 exhibits similar potency to T-DM1 on inhibiting HER2-positive cell proliferation and tumor growth, yet demonstrates better multiple dose toxicity than T-DM1. The improved toxicity profile of BAT8001 suggests that the novel noncleavable linker utilized in BAT8001 is more stable than the linker utilized in T-DM1. BAT8001 is very efficacious in cell-line xenograft models of breast cancer. The preclinical profile of BAT8001 warrants further development for the treatment of breast cancer and other HER2-positive cancers.

Abstract
Patients with Crohn's disease (CD) are shown to have abnormal changes in brain structures. This study aimed to further investigate whether these patients have abnormal brain activities and network connectivity. Sixty patients with CD and 40 healthy controls (HCs) underwent resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) scans. Amplitude of low-frequency fluctuation (ALFF) and seed-based functional connectivity (FC) were used to assess differences in spontaneous regional brain activity and functional connectivity. Compared to the HCs, patients with CD showed significantly higher ALFF values in hippocampus and parahippocampus (HIPP/paraHIPP), anterior cingulate cortex, insula, superior frontal cortex and precuneus. The ALFF values were significantly lower in secondary somatosensory cortex (S2), precentral gyrus, and medial prefrontal cortex. Functional connectivities between left HIPP and left inferior temporal cortex, and right middle cingulate cortex, HIPP, and fusiform area were significantly lower. The functional connectivities between right HIPP and right inferior orbitofrontal cortex and left HIPP were also significantly lower. Patients with CD showed higher or lower spontaneous activity in multiple brain regions. Altered activities in these brain regions may collectively reflect abnormal function and regulation of visceral pain and sensation, external environmental monitoring, and cognitive processing in these patients. Lower functional connectivity of the hippocampus-limbic system was observed in these patients. These findings may provide more information to elucidate the neurobiological mechanisms of the disease.

Abstract
Objective: To analyze the clinical features of pulmonary mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) lymphoma. Methods: A total of 14 cases diagnosed with primary pulmonary MALT lymphoma were collected from May 2007 to May 2017 in Zhongshan Hospital, Fudan University. The clinical features, pathological characteristics, diagnosis, treatment and prognosis were retrospectively analyzed. Results: All 14 cases were pathologically diagnosed with primary pulmonary MALT lymphoma. The biopsy tissues were obtained through the Video-assisted Thoracoscopic Surgery (VATS) (4 cases), percutaneous puncture (2 cases), and bronchoscopy (8 cases). Cell types of these tumors were centrocyte-like cells (10 cases), lymphocytoid cells (2 cases), and monocytoid B cells (2 cases). The B cell clonality was detected by IgH cloning test in 4 cases and 3 of them were demonstrated with monoclonal strips. MALT1 breakup gene was positive in 3 out of 6 examined cases using fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH). As for the treatment, 8 patients underwent chemotherapy, 5 patients underwent surgical resection and 1 patient abandoned treatment. Twelve patients were followed up to 9 years. The tumor recurrence occurred in 2 patients and resulted their death. Conclusions: The clinical manifestations of primary pulmonary MALT lymphoma are lack of specificity. The pathology, immunohistochemistry, IgH cloning test and MALT1 breakup gene tested by FISH are the criteria for diagnosis.

Abstract
Acupuncture and moxibustion have been shown to be effective in treating Crohn’s disease (CD), but their therapeutic mechanisms remain unclear. Here we compared brain responses to either electro-acupuncture or moxibustion treatment in CD patients experiencing remission. A total of 65 patients were randomly divided into an electro-acupuncture group (n = 32) or a moxibustion group (n = 33), and treated for 12 weeks. Eighteen patients in the electro-acupuncture group and 20 patients in the moxibustion group underwent resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging at baseline and after treatment. Seed-based analysis was used to compare the resting-state functional connectivity (rsFC) between bilateral hippocampus and other brain regions before and after the treatments, as well as between the two groups. The CD activity index (CDAI) and inflammatory bowel disease questionnaire (IBDQ) were used to evaluate disease severity and patient quality of life. Electro-acupuncture and moxibustion both significantly reduced CDAI values and increased IBDQ scores. In the electro-acupuncture group, the rsFC values between bilateral hippocampus and anterior middle cingulate cortex (MCC) and insula were significantly increased, and the changes were negatively correlated with the CDAI scores. In the moxibustion group, the rsFC values between bilateral hippocampus and precuneus as well as inferior parietal lobe (IPC) were significantly elevated, and the changes were negatively correlated with the CDAI scores. We conclude that the therapeutic effects of electro-acupuncture and moxibustion on CD may involve the differently modulating brain homeostatic afferent processing network and default mode network (DMN), respectively.

Abstract
Central sensitization and network hyperexcitability of the nociceptive system is a basic mechanism of neuropathic pain. We hypothesize that development of cortical hyperexcitability underlying neuropathic pain may involve homeostatic plasticity in response to lesion-induced somatosensory deprivation and activity loss, and can be controlled by enhancing cortical activity. In a mouse model of neuropathic pain, in vivo two-photon imaging and patch clamp recording showed initial loss and subsequent recovery and enhancement of spontaneous firings of somatosensory cortical pyramidal neurons. Unilateral optogenetic stimulation of cortical pyramidal neurons both prevented and reduced pain-like behavior as detected by bilateral mechanical hypersensitivity of hindlimbs, but corpus callosotomy eliminated the analgesic effect that was ipsilateral, but not contralateral, to optogenetic stimulation, suggesting involvement of inter-hemispheric excitatory drive in this effect. Enhancing activity by focally blocking cortical GABAergic inhibition had a similar relieving effect on the pain-like behavior. Patch clamp recordings from layer V pyramidal neurons showed that optogenetic stimulation normalized cortical hyperexcitability through changing neuronal membrane properties and reducing frequency of excitatory postsynaptic events. We conclude that development of neuropathic pain involves abnormal homeostatic activity regulation of somatosensory cortex, and that enhancing cortical excitatory activity may be a novel strategy for preventing and controlling neuropathic pain.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the effects of warming moxibustion Tianshu (ST 25, bilateral) and Qihai (CV 6) in patients with diarrhea-dominant irritable bowel syndrome (D-IBS) by assessing predominant factors, and determining the best factor combinations and their interactions. To identify the optimal quantity of warming moxibustion Tianshu (ST 25, bilateral) and Qihai (CV 6) to achieve optimal efficacy. METHODS An L9 (34) orthogonal design was applied to 233 confirmed subjects based on the three most influential factors and the three most frequently used levels. Nine programs were designed. Subjects were assigned to four subgroups according to age and gender; each subject underwent one of the nine programs randomly. We selected Tianshu (ST 25, bilateral) and Qihai (CV 6). The scores of symptoms and the IBS Quality of Life (IBS-QOL) were evaluated after the final treatment. RESULTS After treatment, clinical symptoms of all patients were significantly improved (P = 0.001). Quality of life also improved significantly (P < 0.05). For all the participants, frequency was the dominating factor regarding symptoms (P = 0.01). Duration was the dominating factor for quality of life (P = 0.0001). The best combination for improving symptoms in 30-40-year-old male and female patients was two courses of 10 min each once a day, and for 41-50-year-old male and female patients it was three courses of 10 min (males) or 30 min (females) twice a day. The best combination for quality of life was three courses of 20 min once a day. No interaction was found between frequency and course, or frequency and duration. CONCLUSION Warming moxibustion Tianshu (ST 25, bilateral) and Qihai (CV 6) is a promising therapy for D-IBS. To acquire optimal efficacy, the three main factors (duration, frequency and treatment course) of the warming moxibustion should reach a specific quantity and be combined appropriately.

Abstract
Bone condensation is thought to densify interfacial bone and thus improve implant primary stability, but scant data substantiate either claim. We developed a murine oral implant model to test these hypotheses. Osteotomies were created in healed maxillary extraction sites 1) by drilling or 2) by drilling followed by stepwise condensation with tapered osteotomes. Condensation increased interfacial bone density, as measured by a significant change in bone volume/total volume and trabecular spacing, but it simultaneously damaged the bone. On postimplant day 1, the condensed bone interface exhibited microfractures and osteoclast activity. Finite element modeling, mechanical testing, and immunohistochemical analyses at multiple time points throughout the osseointegration period demonstrated that condensation caused very high interfacial strains, marginal bone resorption, and no improvement in implant stability. Collectively, these multiscale analyses demonstrate that condensation does not positively contribute to implant stability.

Abstract
This study aimed to investigate changes in resting state brain activity in remissive Crohn’s Disease (CD) patients after electro-acupuncture or moxibustion treatment. Fifty-two CD patients and 36 healthy subjects were enrolled, and 36 patients were equally and randomly assigned to receive either electro-acupuncture or moxibustion treatment for twelve weeks. We used resting state functional magnetic resonance imaging to assess Regional Homogeneity (ReHo) levels, and Crohn’s Disease Activity Index (CDAI) and Inflammatory Bowel Disease Questionnaire (IBDQ) scores to evaluate disease severity and quality of life. The results show that (i) The ReHo levels in CD patients were significantly increased in cortical but decreased in subcortical areas, and the coupling between them was declined. (ii) Both treatments decreased CDAI, increased IBDQ scores, and normalized the ReHo values of the cortical and subcortical regions. (iii) ReHo changes in multiple cortical regions were significantly correlated with CDAI score decreases. ReHo changes in several subcortical regions in the electro-acupuncture group, and those of several cortical regions in the moxibustion group, were correlated with reduced CDAI. These findings suggest that both treatments improved cortex-subcortical coupling in remissive CD patients, but electro-acupuncture regulated homeostatic afferent processing network, while moxibustion mainly regulated the default mode network of the brain.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a worldwide disease with high morbidity. The effect of current treatment with Western medicine is not satisfactory. Although moxibustion treatment is widely used for gastrointestinal diseases, randomized controlled trials on the use of this treatment for IBS are limited. This study aims to evaluate the clinical efficacy and safety of moxibustion treatment in patients with diarrhea-predominant irritable bowel syndrome (IBS-D). METHODS/DESIGN A multi-center, randomized, single-blind and placebo-controlled trial is employed. 104 cases will be divided into two groups: (1) a mild-warm moxibustion group in which moxa stick is 3-5 cm away from acupuncture points and the skin temperature is maintained at 43 ± 1 °C; and (2) a placebo moxibustion group in which moxa stick is 8-10 cm away from acupuncture points and the skin temperature is maintained at 37 ± 1 °C. Moxibustion is performed on bilateral ST25 and ST36 in the two groups for 30 min each time, three times a week for 6 weeks. The patients are followed up at the 12th and 18th weeks. Adequate relief is used as a primary outcome measure; IBS symptom severity score, Bristol stool form scale, IBS quality-of-life questionnaire, and hospital anxiety and depression scale are used as secondary outcome measures. DISCUSSION This study aims to demonstrate the safety and efficacy of moxibustion treatment for IBS-D, which may validate moxibustion as an effective therapy for treating IBS-D. Abstract
Hypertension is common in adults and often undiagnosed, and the prevalence of pre- and undiagnosed-hypertension remains unclear. We aimed to investigate the prevalence of pre- and undiagnosed-hypertension and their correlates among urban Chinese adults. A total of 7435 participants aged 20-79 were included in this study. Data on demographics, lifestyle and medical history were collected through a structured interview. Pre- and undiagnosed-hypertension was defined as systolic blood pressure/ diastolic blood pressure (SBP/DBP) of 120-139/80-89 mm Hg and SBP⩾140 mm Hg and/or DBP⩾90 mm Hg, respectively, in participants without a history of hypertension and use of antihypertensive medication. Prevalence rates were calculated and standardized using local age- and gender-specific census data. Data were analysed using multinomial logistic regression with adjustment for potential confounders. Of all the participants, 2726 (36.7%) were diagnosed with pre-hypertension and 919 (12.3%) with undiagnosed-hypertension. Undiagnosed-hypertension accounted for 37.3% of all participants with hypertension. The prevalence of pre-hypertension gradually decreased with age, while undiagnosed-hypertension increased, although presenting different changing patterns among men and women. In a fully adjusted multinomial logistic regression, age, male sex, low socio-economic status (SES), abdominal obesity, alcohol drinking, physical inactivity and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) were significantly associated with increased odds of pre- and undiagnosed-hypertension. In conclusions, the prevalence of pre- and undiagnosed-hypertension was ~50% among urban Chinese adults. Abdominal obesity, low SES, alcohol drinking, physical inactivity and T2DM may be indicators for pre- and undiagnosed-hypertension.

Abstract
The branching enzyme (EC 2.4.1.18) catalyzes the formation of α-1,6 branch points in starch. In this study, the <i>Geobacillus thermoglucosidans</i> gene-encoding branching enzyme was expressed in <i>Escherichia coli </i>BL21 (DE3) and the protein was isolated and characterized. <i>G. thermoglucosidans </i>branching enzyme is a thermostable enzyme with an optimal reaction temperature of nearly 60°C and a half-life at 65°C of approximately 1.1 h. The activity of the recombinant enzyme is optimal at pH 7.5, with broad stability between pH 5.5 and 9.0. Its thermostability, relatively broad pH stability and optimal temperature near the temperature at which starch begins to gelatinize may make it easy to use in industrial production. Furthermore, the enzyme is activated by Mg<sup>2+</sup>, Ba<sup>2+</sup>, K<sup>+</sup> and Na<sup>+</sup> in a concentration-dependent manner and dramatically inhibited by Ni<sup>2+</sup> and Co<sup>2+</sup>. Its substrate dependence, using amylopectin as the substrate, could be adequately fitted using the Michaelis-Menten equation, yielding a<i> K</i><sub>m</sub> of 0.99 mg/ml. High-performance anion exchange chromatography results showed that the chain length distribution of branching enzyme-treated waxy corn starch is indistinguishable from that of the branching enzyme-treated common corn starch. This enzyme may therefore be a promising tool for the enzymatic modification of starch.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To observe the effects and safety of clinical common symptoms of active Crohn's disease at the mild and moderate stages treated with acupuncture and moxibustion. METHODS One hundred and two patients were randomly divided into an observation group and a control group, 51 cases in each one. Herb-partition moxibustion and acupuncture were used in the observation group. Herbal cakes with Huanglian (coptis chinensis), Fuzi (radix aconiti carmichaeli), Rougui (cinnamomum cassia), Muxiang (radices saussureae), Honghua (carthamus tinctorious), Danshen (the root of red-rooted salvia) and Danggui (angelica sinensis) as the main ingredients were used on Tianshu (ST 25), Qihai (CV 6) and Zhongwan (CV 12); acupuncture was used at Zusanli (ST 36), Shangjuxu (ST 37), Sanyinjiao (SP 6), Taixi (KI 3), Gongsun (SP 4) and Taichong (LR 3). Bran-partition moxibustion and shallow acupuncture were applied in the control group. Wheat bran-partition moxibustion in the shape of cake was implemented on the same acupoints as the observation group; shallow acupuncture was used 1~2 cm next to the acupoints. Treatment was given three times a week for 12 weeks, 36 times totally. Clinical effects of eight symptoms were evaluated by TCM symptom score, and the symptoms included abdominal pain (degree, frequency, time), diarrhoea (number, shape and frequency), fatigue, anorexia, borborygmus andflatus, fear of cold, soreness and weakness of waist and knees, tenesmus. RESULTS After 12-week treatment, the eight symptoms were improved apparently (all P<0.05), with the scores of abdominal pain (degree, frequency, time), diarrhoea (shape and frequency), fatigue and anorexia in the observation group decreasing more obviously (all P<0.01). There was no statistical significance about the other symptom scores between the two groups (all P>0.05). CONCLUSIONS Herb-partition moxibustion combined with acupuncture achieve safety and efficacy for mild and moderate Crohn's disease, and can improve the clinical common symptoms. Furthermore, their effects on abdominal pain (degree, frequency, time), diarrhoea (shape and frequency), fatigue and anorexia are better than those of bran-partition moxibustion and shallow acupuncture.

Abstract
In this paper, an efficient method for determination of total pyrene concentration in the biological samples including plasma, liver, spleen, lung and kidney of Sprague-Dawley rats were investigated and established using steady-state fluorescence method. Equilibrium dialysis method was applied to determine plasma protein binding rate of pyrene. The results illustrated that the protein binding rate depends on the concentration of pyrene in plasma. Extraction of pyrene in plasma was studied by using biomedical nanopartical which was prepared from synthesized associating polymer poly(ethylene glycol) end-capped by hexadecane. The Critical Micelle Concentration (CMC) of the polymeric micelle in aqueous solution was determined to equal 0.0063 mg/mL using 1-pyrenemethanol as a fluorescent probe. The distribution of free pyrene and pyrene loaded nanoparticals in blood were determined. The results showed that over 95% of the free pyrene was distributed into the erythrocyte, and the pyrene-loaded nanoparticles were less distributed in to the erythrocyte than free pyrene, but it was higher than 60%. This study provides an efficient method to detect pyrene in different tissues as well as an extraction method at the molecular level, which might contribute to the development of modern molecular diagnosis and identification in vivo.

Abstract
From September 2014 to March 2015, 23 outbreaks of norovirus (NoV) acute gastroenteritis occurred in Jiangsu, China. Partial sequencing of the NoV capsid gene suggested that 16 of the 23 outbreaks were related to a new GII.17 variant. This variant was first detected in sporadic specimens in October 2014, and became predominant in February 2015. Analysis of the RNA-dependent RNA polymerase (RdRp), and complete capsid including the protruding domain P2 sequences confirmed this GII.17 variant as distinct from previously identified GII variants.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Moxibustion is one of the most commonly used therapies in acupuncture practice, and is demonstrated to be beneficial for patients with diarrhea from irritable bowel syndrome (D-IBS). But its mechanism remains unclear. Because visceral hypersensitivity in IBS patients has been documented by evaluation of perceived stimulations through functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) studies, we focused on observing brain imaging changes in D-IBS patients during rectal balloon distention before and after moxibustion in order to reveal its possible central mechanism and further evaluate its effect. METHODS This clinical trial is registered under the number: ChiCTR-TRC-10000887. Eighty D-IBS patients were randomly divided into a moxibustion and sham moxibustion group (control group) for a 4-week treatment. Fifteen patients in moxibustion group and thirteen patients in control group completed two fMRI scans during a 50 and 100 ml rectal balloon distention before and after treatment. Rectal pain were obtained with a scan test. Birmingham IBS Symptom Scale and IBS Quality of Life (QOL) Scale were used to evaluate therapeutic effect. RESULTS After treatment, the decrease in Birmingham IBS Symptom Scale and IBS QOL Scale scores in moxibustion group was significantly greater than that of control group (P < 0.01). The defecation urge threshold and the pain perception threshold of moxibustion group was also significantly higher after treatment than that of control group (P < 0.01). The decrease in pain score during the 100 ml rectal balloon distention in moxibustion group was significantly greater than that of control group (P < 0.05). There was no definite activated center during the 50 ml rectal distention in either group before treatment. After treatment, the prefrontal cortex (PFC) was affected in moxibustion group, while the PFC and the anterior cingulated cortex (ACC) were affected in control group. During the 100 ml distention before treatment in both groups, the PFC and ACC were activated. After treatment, they disappeared in moxibustion group but remained in control group. CONCLUSIONS Moxibustion can improve symptoms and quality of life in D-IBS patients. It can also decrease rectal sensitivity. The activation of PFC and ACC during a 100 ml rectal distention disappeared after moxibustion treatment.

Abstract
We describe a case-control study performed in Jiangsu, China, to evaluate risk factors for human infection with novel avian influenza A(H7N9) virus. Twenty-five cases and 93 controls matched by age, sex, and location were included in the study. Direct contact with poultry or birds in the two weeks before illness onset, chronic medical conditions (hypertension excluded), and environment-related exposures were significantly associated with A(H7N9) infection.
