Abstract
Mounting evidence suggests that environmental pollutants may affect reproductive health, potentially leading to adverse outcomes like pregnancy loss. However, it remains unclear whether exposure to synthetic phenolic antioxidants (SPAs) correlates with early pregnancy loss (EPL). This study explores SPA exposure's link to EPL and its potential molecular mechanisms. From 2021 to 2022, 265 early pregnant women (136 serum and 129 villus samples) with and without EPL were enrolled. We quantified 17 SPAs in serum and chorionic villus, with AO1010, AO3114, BHT, AO2246, and BHT-Q frequently being detected, suggesting their ability to cross the placental barrier. AO1135 showed a positive relationship with EPL in sera, indicating a significant monotonic dose-response relationship (p-trend <0.001). BHT-Q exhibited a similar relationship with EPL in villi. Inhibitory effects of BHT-Q on estradiol (E2) were observed. Molecular docking revealed SPA-protein interactions involved in E2 synthesis. SPA-induced EPL might occur with specific serum levels of AO1135 and certain villus levels of AO1010, BHT-Q, and AO2246. BHT-Q emerges as a potential biomarker for assessing EPL risk. This study provides insights into understanding of the exposure to SPAs and potential adverse outcomes in pregnant women.

Abstract
This study was designed to assess whether selenium-chitosan (Se-CTS) can protect porcine endometrial epithelial cells (PEECs) against damage and apoptosis induced by zearalenone (ZEA) via modulating the JNK/SAPK signaling pathway. The cell cycle, mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP), reactive oxygen species (ROS), and apoptosis rates of porcine endometrial epithelial cells were determined, as well as the expression levels of genes related to the SAPK/JNK signaling pathway. The results showed that 3.0 µmol/L Se-CTS decreased the percentage of ZEA-induced G1 phase in PEECs (P < 0.01), whereas 1.5 and 3.0 µmol/L Se-CTS increased the percentage of ZEA-induced percentage of G2 phase of PEECs (P < 0.01). Further, Se-CTS at 1.5 and 3.0 µmol/L improved the ZEA-induced decrease in MMP (P < 0.01), whereas Se-CTS at 0.5, 1.5, and 3.0 µmol/L reduced the increase in ROS levels and apoptosis rate induced by ZEA in PEECs (P < 0.01 or P < 0.05). Furthermore, 3.0 µmol/L Se-CTS ameliorated the increase in the expression of c-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK), apoptosis signal-regulated kinase (ASK1), and c-Jun induced by ZEA (P < 0.01) and the reduction in mitogen-activated protein kinase kinase 4 (MKK4) and protein 53 (p53) expression (P < 0.01), while 1.5 µmol/L Se-CTS improved the expression of ASK1 and c-Jun induced by ZEA (P < 0.05). The results proved that Se-CTS alleviates ZEA-induced cell cycle stagnation, cell mitochondrial damage, and cell apoptosis via decreasing ZEA-produced ROS and modulating the JNK/SAPK signaling pathway.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Immunological rejection is the most common reason for corneal transplantation failure. The importance of T cells in corneal allograft rejection is well demonstrated. Recent studies highlight that pigment epithelium-derived factor (PEDF) plays an immunoregulatory role in ocular diseases by enhancing the suppressive phenotype of regulatory T cells besides its other functions in neurotrophy and antiangiogenesis. METHODS The effects of PEDF on immune rejection were examined in rat models of corneal transplantation using slit-lamp microscope observation, immunohistochemistry, flow cytometry, and Western blot. In vitro, we demonstrated PEDF reduced alloreactive T-cell activation using real-time polymerase chain reaction, flow cytometry, and Western blot. RESULTS Topical administration of PEDF provided corneal transplantation rats with an improved graft survival rate of corneal allografts, reduced hemangiogenesis, and infiltration of immune cells in corneas, in particular, type 17 T helper cells while increased regulatory T cells. Moreover, nerve reinnervation within grafts was promoted in PEDF-treated recipient rats. In vitro, PEDF inhibited alloreactive T-cell activation via the c-Jun N-terminal kinase/c-Jun signaling pathway and upregulated the expressions of interleukin-10 and transforming growth factor-β, emphasizing the suppressive role of PEDF on immune responses. CONCLUSIONS Our results underscore the feasibility of PEDF in alleviating corneal allograft rejection and further illustrate its potential in managing immune-related diseases.

Abstract
Mining activities aggravate the ecological degradation and emission of greenhouse gases throughout the world, thereby affecting the global climate and posing a serious threat to the ecological safety. Vegetation restoration is considered to be an effective and sustainable strategy to improve the post-mining soil quality and functions. However, we still have a limited knowledge of the impact of vegetation restoration on carbon sequestration potential in mining areas. In this pursuit, the present study was envisaged to integrate the findings from studies on soil organic carbon (SOC) sequestration in mining areas under vegetation restoration with field monitoring data. The carbon sequestration potential under vegetation restoration in China's mining areas was estimated by using a machine learning model. The results showed that (1) Vegetation restoration exhibited a consistently positive impact on the changes in the SOC reserves. The carbon sequestration potential was the highest in mixed forests, followed by broad-leaved forests, coniferous forests, grassland, shrubland, and farmland; (2) The number of years of vegetation restoration and mean annual precipitation were found to be the important moderating variables affecting the SOC reserves in reclaimed soils in mining areas; (3) There were significant differences in the SOC sequestration potential under different vegetation restoration scenarios in mining areas in China. The SOC sequestration potential reached up to 9.86 million t C a-1, when the soil was restored to the initial state. Based on the meta-analysis, the maximal attainable SOC sequestration potential was found to be 4.26 million t C a-1. The SOC sequestration potential reached the highest level of 12.86 million t C a-1, when the optimal vegetation type in a given climate was restored. The results indicated the importance of vegetation restoration for improving the soil sequestration potential in mining areas. The time lag in carbon sequestration potential for different vegetation types in mining areas was also revealed. Our findings can assist the development of ecological restoration regimens in mining areas to mitigate the global climate change.

Abstract
Lithium metal batteries represent a promising technology for next-generation energy storage, but they still suffer from poor cycle life due to lithium dendrite formation and cathode cracking. Fluorinated solvents can improve battery longevity by improving LiF content in the solid-electrolyte interphase; however, the high cost and environmental concerns of fluorinated solvents limit battery viability. Here we designed a series of fluorine-free solvents through the methylation of 1,2-dimethoxyethane, which promotes inorganic LiF-rich interphase formation through anion reduction and achieves high oxidation stability. The anion-derived LiF interphases suppress lithium dendrite growth on the lithium anode and minimize cathode cracking under high-voltage operation. The Li+-solvent structure is investigated through in situ techniques and simulations to draw correlations between the interphase compositions and electrochemical performances. The methylation strategy provides an alternative pathway for electrolyte engineering towards high-voltage electrolytes while reducing dependence on expensive fluorinated solvents.

Abstract
Hydroxypropyl guar gum (HPG) is a critical thickener to increase viscosity and lubrication to improve the water-based hydraulic fracturing efficiency. However, current crosslinkers require a large amount of HPG (>0.3 wt%) to form gel with sufficient viscosity, and high concentrations of HPG may cause adverse effects to the production and the environment. In this study, a novel starch microsphere silica‑boron crosslinker (SMSB) was developed using starch microspheres as a carrier and γ-aminopropyl triethoxy silane (KH550) as a modifier with an in-house method. Both the rheology and surface reactions of the SMSB-HPG crosslinking system were studied using multiple laboratory experiments and molecular dynamics simulation. The results showed that SMSB crosslinker caused multi-site cross-linking with low concentration (only 0.2 wt%) of HPG molecules, reducing the twisting of single molecular chain in the crosslinking system, enhancing the cross-linking strength between molecular chains, and making HPG molecular chains stretcher in the aqueous solution. The apparent viscosity and viscoelasticity of the HPG system were substantially higher than the organoboron crosslinker, and the temperature resistance of the SMSB-HPG crosslinking system was up to 140 °C. This study provides an alternative green crosslinker for more sustainable industrial applications and provides theoretical basis for the modification of biomaterials.

Abstract
Rapid urbanization and industrialization promote economic growth as well as bring carbon emissions, which seriously threaten the eco-environment and socioeconomic sustainable development. Facing increasing resource constraints, improving carbon emissions efficiency (CEE) is conducive to promote coordinated development of economy and environmental protection. In recent years, regional economic integration (REI) has rapidly developed. It can not only promote factors flow between regions but also achieve industrial and economic agglomeration. However, few studies have been reported in the literature about the relationship between the REI and CEE. In this study, we first illustrate how the REI influences CEE in theory, then take the Yangtze River Delta (YRD) as a case study to conduct empirical research. The results show that (1) the overall CEE value in the YRD has exhibited an upward trend from 2000 to 2020, and its spatial distribution has revealed a significant auto-correlation pattern. (2) On the whole, the REI act a noteworthy positive impact on CEE. When considering types of cities, it is found to have significant positive impacts for the CEE in economically developed cities, while it exhibits a negative impact in the less-developed ones. (3) Upgrading industrial structure and increasing per capita GDP can promote the CEE, but hinder its growth in surrounding areas. Our findings suggest that the government should formulate a unified overall plan to facilitate REI development and establish a modern industrial system of clean and low-carbon to promote regional sustainable development.

Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the safety of early enteral nutrition (EEN) support in patients with severe intra-abdominal infection and intestinal fistulas. Methods: This was a retrospective cohort study. We collected relevant clinical data of 204 patients with severe intra-abdominal infection and intestinal fistulas who had been managed in the No. 1 Department of General Surgery, Shanghai Ninth People's Hospital, Shanghai Jiaotong University between 1 January 2017 and 1 January 2020. The patients were allocated to EEN or delayed enteral nutrition (DEN) groups depending on whether enteral nutrition had been instituted within 48 hours of admission to the intensive care unit. The primary outcome was 180-day mortality. Other outcomes included rates of intraperitoneal hemorrhage, septic shock, open abdominal cavity, bloodstream infection, mechanical ventilation, and continuous renal replacement therapy. Risk factors for mortality were analyzed by logistic regression. Results: There were no significant differences in hematological data or other baseline characteristics between the two groups at the time of admission to the intensive care unit (all P>0.05). However, septic shock (31.2% [15/48] vs. 15.4% [24/156], χ2=4.99, P=0.025), continuous renal replacement therapy (27.1% [13/48] versus 9.0% [14/156], χ2=8.96, P=0.003), and 180-day mortality (31.2% [15/48] vs. 7.7% [12/156], χ2=15.75, P<0.001) were significantly more frequent in the EEN than the DEN group (all P<0.05). Multivariate regression analysis showed that older age (OR=1.082, 95%CI:1.027-1.139,P=0.003), worse Acute Physiology and Chronic Health Evaluation (APACHE) II scores (OR=1.189, 95%CI: 1.037-1.363, P=0.013), higher C-reactive protein (OR=1.013, 95%CI:1.004-1.023, P=0.007) and EEN (OR=8.844, 95%CI:1.809- 43.240, P=0.007) were independent risk factors for death in patients with severe intra-abdominal infection and intestinal fistulas. Conclusion: EEN may lead to adverse events and increase mortality in patients with both enterocutaneous fistulas and severe abdominal infection. EEN should be implemented with caution in such patients.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Butter has been widely used in bakery products and it contains high level of saturated fats. However, excessive consumption of saturated fats would increase the risk of chronic disease. This study was to fabricate water-in-oil (W/O) type bigels as butter replacers to improve the quality attributes of breads. RESULTS A stable water-in-oil (W/O) type bigel system was fabricated based on mixed oleogelators (rice bran wax and glycerol monostearate) and sodium alginate hydrogel. The ratios of oleogel to hydrogel could significantly affect the stability, microstructure and rheological properties of bigels. All of the bigels exhibited solid-like properties, with increased oleogel fractions, and the network structure of bigel became more compact and orderly with smaller sodium alginate gel particles. Meanwhile, the viscoelastic modulus and firmness of bigel increased, contributing to a higher stability. The bigel dough exhibited lower gel strength and relatively higher extensibility compared to the butter dough. Regardless of oleogel fractions, all the bigel produced bread with a higher specific volume and softer texture than the butter bread. When the oleogel fractions was less than 80%, increasing the oleogel fractions was more beneficial for improving the specific volume, softness and fluffy structure of bread. CONCLUSION W/O type bigel as butter replacers showed great potential in improving the appearance, structure and textural properties of bread. © 2023 Society of Chemical Industry.

Abstract
1. The objective of this study was to investigate the protective effects of a peptidoglycan produced by Limosilactobacillus reuteri against aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) induced toxicity in vitro and in vivo in broiler chicks.2. Toxin adsorption experiments were carried out firstly in vitro. These experiments indicated that the absorption efficiency of the peptidoglycan for AFB1 was 64.3-75.9%.3. In the in vivo experiments, Hy-Line Brown chicks were fed a diet containing AFB1 at 71.43 µg/kg with and without peptidoglycan supplementation at concentrations of 100, 200, or 300 g/kg feed from 0-42 d of age.4. The peptidoglycan supplementation in AFB1-contaminated diets resulted in significant improvements in terms of average daily gain, feed intake, feed conversion ratio, white blood cell count, haemoglobin content, glutathione peroxidase activity, immunoglobulin (Ig) A, IgG, IgM and Newcastle disease virus antibody titres (p < 0.05) and diminished liver steatosis.5. In conclusion, peptidoglycan supplementation alleviated AFB1-induced toxicity through adsorbing toxins and improving growth performance, antioxidant ability, immunity and liver pathological changes in chicks. The optimal supplemental dose was 200 mg/kg in feed.

Abstract
Nanotechnology is capturing great interest worldwide due to their stirring applications in various fields and also individual application of iron oxide nanoparticle (FeO - NPs) and selenium nanoparticles (Se - NPs) have been studied in many literatures. However, the combined application of FeO and Se - NPs is a novel approach and studied in only few studies. For this purpose, a pot experiment was conducted to examine various growth and biochemical parameters in wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) under the toxic concentration of cadmium (Cd) i.e., 50 mg kg-1 which were primed with combined application of two levels of FeO and Se - NPs i.e., 15 and 30 mg L-1 respectively. The results showed that the Cd toxicity in the soil showed a significantly (P < 0.05) declined in the growth, gas exchange attributes, sugars, AsA-GSH cycle, cellular fractionation, proline metabolism in T. aestivum. However, Cd toxicity significantly (P < 0.05) increased oxidative stress biomarkers, enzymatic and non-enzymatic antioxidants including their gene expression in T. aestivum. Although, the application of FeO and Se - NPs showed a significant (P < 0.05) increase in the plant growth and biomass, gas exchange characteristics, enzymatic and non-enzymatic compounds and their gene expression and also decreased the oxidative stress, and Cd uptake. In addition, individual or combined application of FeO and Se - NPs enhanced the cellular fractionation and decreases the proline metabolism and AsA - GSH cycle in T. aestivum. These results open new insights for sustainable agriculture practices and hold immense promise in addressing the pressing challenges of heavy metal contamination in agricultural soils.

Abstract
The emergence of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) microplastics (MPs) as pollutants in agricultural soils is increasingly alarming, presenting significant toxic threats to soil ecosystems. Ajwain (Trachyspermum ammi L.), a plant of significant medicinal and culinary value, is increasingly subjected to environmental stressors that threaten its growth and productivity. This situation is particularly acute given the well-documented toxicity of chromium (Cr), which has been shown to adversely affect plant biomass and escalate risks to the productivity of such economically and therapeutically important species. The present study was conducted to investigate the individual effects of different levels of PVC-MPs (0, 2, and 4 mg L-1) and Cr (0, 150, and 300 mg kg-1) on various aspects of plant growth. Specifically, we examined growth and biomass, photosynthetic pigments, gas exchange attributes, oxidative stress responses, antioxidant compound activity (both enzymatic and nonenzymatic), gene expression, sugar content, nutritional status, organic acid exudation, and Cr accumulation in different parts of Ajwain (Trachyspermum ammi L.) seedlings, which were also exposed to varying levels of titanium dioxide (TiO2) nanoparticles (NPs) (0, 25, and 50 µg mL-1). Results from the present study showed that the increasing levels of Cr and PVC-MPs in soils significantly decreased plant growth and biomass, photosynthetic pigments, gas exchange attributes, sugars, and nutritional contents from the roots and shoots of the plants. Conversely, increasing levels of Cr and PVC-MPs in the soil increased oxidative stress indicators in term of malondialdehyde, hydrogen peroxide, and electrolyte leakage, and also increased organic acid exudation pattern in the roots of T. ammi seedlings. Interestingly, the application of TiO2-NPs counteracted the toxicity of Cr and PVC-MPs in T. ammi seedlings, leading to greater growth and biomass. This protective effect is facilitated by the NPs' ability to sequester reactive oxygen species, thereby reducing oxidative stress and lowering Cr concentrations in both the roots and shoots of the plants. Our research findings indicated that the application of TiO2-NPs has been shown to enhance the resilience of T. ammi seedlings to Cr and PVC-MPs toxicity, leading to not only improved biomass but also a healthier physiological state of the plants. This was demonstrated by a more balanced exudation of organic acids, which is a critical response mechanism to metal stress.

Abstract
Soil contamination with toxic heavy metals [such as lead (Pb)] is becoming a serious global problem due to the rapid development of the social economy. Organic chelating agents such as maleic acid (MA) and tartaric acid (TA) are more efficient, environmentally friendly, and biodegradable compared to inorganic chelating agents and they enhance the solubility, absorption, and stability of metals. To investigate this, we conducted a hydroponic experiment to assess the impact of MA (0.25 mM) and TA (1 mM) on enhancing the phytoremediation of Pb under its toxic concentration of 100 μM, using the oil seed crop canola (Brassica napus L.). Results from the present study showed that the Pb toxicity significantly (P < 0.05) decreased plant growth and biomass, photosynthetic pigments, gas exchange attributes and nutritional contents from the roots and shoots of the plants. In contrast, toxic concentration of Pb significantly (P < 0.05) increased oxidative stress indicators in term of malondialdehyde, hydrogen peroxide, and electrolyte leakage, increased enzymatic and non-enzymatic antixoidants and their specific gene expression and also increased organic acid exudation patter in the roots of B. napus. In addition, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) revealed that Pb toxicity significantly affected double membranous organelles while Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy showed an nveiled distinct peak variations in Pb-treated plants, when compared to control. Additionally, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) revealed that Pb toxicity significantly affected double-membrane organelles, while Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy unveiled distinct peak variations in Pb-treated plants compared to the control. The negative impact of Pb toxicity can overcome the application of MA and TA, which ultimately increased plant growth and biomass by capturing the reactive oxygen species, and decreased oxidative stress in B. napus. With the application of MA and TA, the values of the bioaccumulation factor (BAF) and translocation factor (TF) exceeded 1, indicating that the use of MA and TA enhances the phytoremediation potential of B. napus under Pb stress conditions. This finding could be beneficial for field environment studies, especially when explored through in-depth genetic and molecular analysis.

Abstract
Timely and accurate identification of harmful bacterial species in the environment is paramount for preventing the spread of diseases and ensuring food safety. In this study, laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy technology was utilized, combined with four machine learning methods - KNN, PCA-KNN, RF, and SVM, to conduct classification and identification research on 7 different types of bacteria, adhering to various substrate materials. The experimental results showed that despite the nearly identical elemental composition of these bacteria, differences in the intensity of elemental spectral lines provide crucial information for identification of bacteria. Under conditions of high-purity aluminum substrate, the identification rates of the four modeling methods reached 74.91%, 84.05%, 85.36%, and 96.07%, respectively. In contrast, under graphite substrate conditions, the corresponding identification rates reached 96.87%, 98.11%, 98.93%, and 100%. Graphite is found to be more suitable as a substrate material for bacterial classification, attributed to the fact that more characteristic spectral lines are excited in bacteria under graphite substrate conditions. Additionally, the emission spectral lines of graphite itself are relatively scarce, resulting in less interference with other elemental spectral lines of bacteria. Meanwhile, SVM exhibited the highest precision rate and recall rate, reaching up to 1, making it the most effective classification method in this experiment. This study provides a valuable approach for the rapid and accurate identification of bacterial species based on LIBS, as well as substrate selection, enhancing efficient microbial identification capabilities in fields related to social security and military applications.

Abstract
Objective: To explore the association between aldehyde dehydrogenase 2 (ALDH2) gene polymorphisms and abnormal liver function-induced by acetaminophen (APAP) drugs. Methods: An ALDH2 gene knockout mouse model was constructed using CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing technology. The obtained heterozygous mice were mated with opposite sex of heterozygotes. Genomic DNA was extracted from the tail of the offspring mouse. The polymerase chain reaction (PCR) method was used to determine the ALDH2 genotype. APAP was further used to induce acute drug-induced liver injury models in wild-type and ALDH2 knockout mice. Blood and liver tissues of mice were collected for liver function index, HE staining, F4/80 immunohistochemistry, and other detections. The intergroup mean was compared using a one-way ANOVA. The LSD- t test was used for pairwise comparison. Results: ALDH2 knockout mice were bred successfully. The genotyping of the offspring was segregated into the wild-type (ALDH2(+/+)), heterozygous mutant (ALDH2(+/-)), and homozygous mutant (ALDH2(-/-)), respectively. Biochemical and histological results after APAP modeling showed that the level of alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alkaline phosphatase (ALP), and total bilirubin (TBil) was not significantly increased in the blank control group (P < 0.05), while the ALT, AST,ALP, and TBil were all elevated in the APAP experimental group. The levels of ALT (P = 0.004), AST (P = 0.002), and TBil (P = 0.012) were significantly elevated among the mutant group compared to those in the wild-type group, and the expression levels of these indicators were also significantly elevated among the homozygous mutant group compared to those in the heterozygous mutant group (P = 0.003, 0 and 0.006). In addition, the ALP levels were higher in the heterozygous mutation group than those in the homozygous mutant group (P = 0.085) and wild-type group mice, but the difference was only statistically significant compared to wild-type mice (P = 0.002). HE staining results showed that mice in the APAP experimental group had hepatocyte degeneration, necrosis, and increased inflammatory cell infiltration, which was mostly evident in mutant mice. Simultaneously, the F4/80 immunohistochemical staining results showed that brown granules were visible in the liver tissue of APAP experimental group mice, and its expression levels were significantly enhanced compared to the blank control group. Conclusion: APAP-induced liver function abnormalities were associated with the ALDH2 gene polymorphism. The liver injury symptoms were increased in ALDH2 mutant mice following APAP modeling, and the ALDH2 gene defect may alleviate, to some extent, APAP-induced liver function abnormalities.

Abstract
Clinical trial is the gold standard for evaluating the efficacy and safety of interventions; however, it is limited by high costs and long time. Real-world data (RWD) can provide a robust data basis for comparative research, but the quality is uneven. This review introduces the target trial emulation, in which researchers, using RWD and following the design of clinical trials, define exposure and outcome in advance, set eligibility criteria, determine the time zero, estimate sample size, and plan statistical analysis, to enhance the quality of evidence for observational studies. This review preliminarily discusses the standard of evidence quality evaluation in target trial emulation. Then, the target trial emulation is shown through case interpretation.

Abstract
Loss of laryngeal function is a primary problem faced by patients after total laryngectomy. Although the voice function of the larynx can be partially compensated by some methods(such as implanting a voice prosthesis, using an electrolarynx and so on), and swallowing dysfunction can be improved by postoperative rehabilitation training, patients still need to breathe through the tracheostoma for life. Laryngeal transplantation, as the only therapeutic measure that has the potential to completely restore laryngeal function, has been the focus of attention in the field of otorhinolaryngology head and neck surgery both at home and abroad. In this article, we review a case of human laryngotracheal allotransplantation that was successfully completed in West China Hospital of Sichuan University, including case presentation, preoperative evaluation and preparation, surgical procedure, and postoperative management, which will provide a reference for the future development of clinical laryngeal transplantation.

Abstract
Circular dichroism (CD) in terahertz (THz) regions has been widely used in biomonitoring, analytical chemistry, communication sensing, and other fields. Herein, we present a simple design for a dual-band THz chiral metasurface absorber (CMA) with a stronger CD effect based on temperature-tunable InSb for enhanced sensing applications. The proposed dual-band CMA consisted of a periodic array of the evolved C-shaped InSb adhered to a copper substrate. The designed CMA at 305 K achieved a right-handed circular polarization (RCP)-selective absorbance of 98.86% and 97.43% at 1.65 THz and 1.89 THz, respectively, and left-handed circular polarization (LCP) absorbance of 9.98% and 22.46%, respectively, and exhibited stronger CD values of 0.89 and 0.75. In addition, the CD properties of the designed CMA can be adjusted by changing the geometrical parameters of the unit-cell structure. The simulated electric field and power follow distributions indicate that this dual-band chiral-selective absorption of the designed CMA is due to the different plasma resonance mode excitations for the incident circular polarization (CP) wave. In addition, the CD properties of the designed CMA can be adjusted by changing the geometrical parameters of the unit-cell structure. Furthermore, CD spectra can be dynamically adjusted by varying the outside temperature and refraction index (RI) of the filled analytes. The designed dual-band CMA can function as a high-performance temperature sensor with sensitivities of 4.68 GHz K-1 and 5.52 GHz K-1 and also as an RI sensor with sensitivities of 1080 GHz RIU-1 and 860 GHz RIU-1, respectively. Our proposed tunable dual-band CMA with its exquisite performance has the potential to be widely applied in diverse areas such as detection, sensing, and other related optoelectronic fields.

Abstract
Due to flexible structure tunability and abundant structure diversity, redox-active polymers are promising cathode materials for developing affordable and sustainable Na-ion batteries (NIBs). However, polymer cathodes still suffer from low capacity, poor cycle life, and sluggish reaction kinetics. Herein, we designed and synthesized a polymer cathode material bearing carbonyl and azo groups as well as extended conjugation structures in the repeating units. The polymer cathode exhibited exceptional electrochemical performance in NIBs in terms of high capacity, long lifetime, and fast kinetics. When coupled with a low-concentration electrolyte, it shows superior performance at low temperatures down to -50 °C, demonstrating great promise for low-temperature battery applications. Raman spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) were employed to study the reaction mechanism, interphase structure, and morphological evolution, confirming reversible redox reactions between azo/carbonyl groups in the polymer and Na+/electrons, a NaF-rich interphase, and high structure stability upon cycling. This work provides an effective approach to developing high-performance polymer cathodes for affordable, sustainable, and low-temperature NIBs.

Abstract
For nearly a century, the misuse of antibiotics has gradually polluted water and threatened human health. Photocatalysis is considered an efficient way to remove antibiotics from water. Zirconium-based metal-organic frameworks have attracted much attention as promising photocatalysts for the degradation of antibiotics. However, single Zirconium-based metal-organic frameworks can still not achieve a more satisfactory photocatalytic efficiency, due to poor light absorption and charge separation efficiency. In this study, a novel metal-loaded metal-organic frameworks material was explored. As a potential photocatalytic material, the performance of NH2-UiO-66 in the photocatalytic degradation of tetracycline was greatly improved just by the loading of a single metal. Bismuth/NH2-UiO-66 photocatalysts of various compositions were physicochemically (TEM, SEM, XRD, XPS, BET, FTIR, UV-VIS, PL), and electrochemically (electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, photocurrent response) characterized. We evaluated the photocatalytic performance of Bismuth/NH2-UiO-66 composites by measuring their ability towards tetracycline decomposition in simulated sunlight irradiation conditions. The experimental results indicated that the introduction of metal Bismuth significantly boosts the photocatalytic activity of the composite catalysts. The final degradation rate of Bismuth/NH2-UiO-66 for tetracycline was found to be 95.8%, namely 2.7 times higher than pure NH2-UiO-66. This behavior is due to the surface plasmon resonance effect of Bismuth, which ameliorates the photocatalyst's electron-hole separation and strengthens the charge transfer. Apart from that, the presence of Bismuth magnifies the visible-light absorption range of Bismuth/NH2-UiO-66. In this study, an innovative approach for designing efficient and cost-effective metal-modified metal-organic frameworks photocatalysts is proposed.

Abstract
This research aims to explore the degradation properties of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) by PET hydrolase (WCCG) in high-temperature composting and its impact on microbial communities. PET degradation, composting parameters and microbial communities were assessed in 220 L sludge composters with PET and WCCG using high-throughput sequencing. Results showed that WCCG addition led to a deceleration of the humification process and a reduction in the relative abundance of thermophilic genera. Potential PET degrading microbiota, e.g. Acinetobacter, Bacillus, were enriched in the plastisphere in the composters where PET reduced by 26 % without WCCG addition. The external introduction of the WCCG enzyme to compost predominantly instigates a chemical reaction with PET, concurently curtailing the proliferation of plastic-degrading bacteria, leading to a 35 % degradation of PET. Both the WCCG enzyme and the microbiota associated with plastic-degradation showed the potential for reducing PET, offering a novel method for mitigating pollution caused by environmental microplastics.

Abstract
Gastrointestinal (GI) cancers are the most common tumors of the digestive system, and their high morbidity and cancer-related mortality dramatically threaten the health of the population. With the researching progress of immunotherapy, its use in the treatment of GI cancers in the perioperative and advanced stages is becoming more and more important. Currently, immunotherapy has become the standard first-line treatment for MSI-H late-stage colorectal cancer, while in the first-line treatment of late-stage gastric cancer, immunotherapy combined with chemotherapy and HER2-targeted drugs (in HER2-positive patients) has also achieved significant efficacy and long-term survival benefits. Advances in immunotherapy in the neoadjuvant and adjuvant treatment and in the second- and later-line treatment of late-stage GI cancers have demonstrated its promising therapeutic potential. However, there is still an urgent need for future studies to explore more immunotherapy combination strategies for patients with GI cancers, especially with MSS colorectal cancers.

Abstract
Rhabdomyosarcoma with TFCP2-related fusions (TFCP2-RMS) is a rare entity that commonly affects young adults with a predilection for skeletal involvement. We herein report a 40-year-old female patient with TFCP2-RMS who was misdiagnosed as fibrous dysplasia or low-grade central osteosarcoma of the mandible by referring institutions. Histologically, the tumor showed dominant spindle cells and focal epithelioid cells with marked immature woven bone formation. Immunophenotypically, in addition to the characteristic expression of myogenic markers, ALK, and cytokeratins, tumor cells also unusually expressed osteogenic markers, such as MDM2 and SATB2. Through fluorescence in situ hybridization, the tumor cells showed EWSR1::TFCP2 gene fusion and no MDM2 gene amplification. This is a rare case of TFCP2-RMS, which was misdiagnosed as low-grade central osteosarcoma due to its presenting immunophenotype of MDM2 and SATB2, as well as extensive osteoid matrix formation.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Sodium-glucose co-transporter-2 (SGLT2) inhibitors reduce progression of chronic kidney disease and the risk of cardiovascular morbidity and mortality in a wide range of patients. However, their effects on kidney disease progression in some patients with chronic kidney disease are unclear because few clinical kidney outcomes occurred among such patients in the completed trials. In particular, some guidelines stratify their level of recommendation about who should be treated with SGLT2 inhibitors based on diabetes status and albuminuria. We aimed to assess the effects of empagliflozin on progression of chronic kidney disease both overall and among specific types of participants in the EMPA-KIDNEY trial. METHODS EMPA-KIDNEY, a randomised, controlled, phase 3 trial, was conducted at 241 centres in eight countries (Canada, China, Germany, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, the UK, and the USA), and included individuals aged 18 years or older with an estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) of 20 to less than 45 mL/min per 1·73 m2, or with an eGFR of 45 to less than 90 mL/min per 1·73 m2 with a urinary albumin-to-creatinine ratio (uACR) of 200 mg/g or higher. We explored the effects of 10 mg oral empagliflozin once daily versus placebo on the annualised rate of change in estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR slope), a tertiary outcome. We studied the acute slope (from randomisation to 2 months) and chronic slope (from 2 months onwards) separately, using shared parameter models to estimate the latter. Analyses were done in all randomly assigned participants by intention to treat. EMPA-KIDNEY is registered at ClinicalTrials.gov, NCT03594110. FINDINGS Between May 15, 2019, and April 16, 2021, 6609 participants were randomly assigned and then followed up for a median of 2·0 years (IQR 1·5-2·4). Prespecified subgroups of eGFR included 2282 (34·5%) participants with an eGFR of less than 30 mL/min per 1·73 m2, 2928 (44·3%) with an eGFR of 30 to less than 45 mL/min per 1·73 m2, and 1399 (21·2%) with an eGFR 45 mL/min per 1·73 m2 or higher. Prespecified subgroups of uACR included 1328 (20·1%) with a uACR of less than 30 mg/g, 1864 (28·2%) with a uACR of 30 to 300 mg/g, and 3417 (51·7%) with a uACR of more than 300 mg/g. Overall, allocation to empagliflozin caused an acute 2·12 mL/min per 1·73 m2 (95% CI 1·83-2·41) reduction in eGFR, equivalent to a 6% (5-6) dip in the first 2 months. After this, it halved the chronic slope from -2·75 to -1·37 mL/min per 1·73 m2 per year (relative difference 50%, 95% CI 42-58). The absolute and relative benefits of empagliflozin on the magnitude of the chronic slope varied significantly depending on diabetes status and baseline levels of eGFR and uACR. In particular, the absolute difference in chronic slopes was lower in patients with lower baseline uACR, but because this group progressed more slowly than those with higher uACR, this translated to a larger relative difference in chronic slopes in this group (86% [36-136] reduction in the chronic slope among those with baseline uACR <30 mg/g compared with a 29% [19-38] reduction for those with baseline uACR ≥2000 mg/g; ptrend<0·0001). INTERPRETATION Empagliflozin slowed the rate of progression of chronic kidney disease among all types of participant in the EMPA-KIDNEY trial, including those with little albuminuria. Albuminuria alone should not be used to determine whether to treat with an SGLT2 inhibitor. FUNDING Boehringer Ingelheim and Eli Lilly.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The EMPA-KIDNEY trial showed that empagliflozin reduced the risk of the primary composite outcome of kidney disease progression or cardiovascular death in patients with chronic kidney disease mainly through slowing progression. We aimed to assess how effects of empagliflozin might differ by primary kidney disease across its broad population. METHODS EMPA-KIDNEY, a randomised, controlled, phase 3 trial, was conducted at 241 centres in eight countries (Canada, China, Germany, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, the UK, and the USA). Patients were eligible if their estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) was 20 to less than 45 mL/min per 1·73 m2, or 45 to less than 90 mL/min per 1·73 m2 with a urinary albumin-to-creatinine ratio (uACR) of 200 mg/g or higher at screening. They were randomly assigned (1:1) to 10 mg oral empagliflozin once daily or matching placebo. Effects on kidney disease progression (defined as a sustained ≥40% eGFR decline from randomisation, end-stage kidney disease, a sustained eGFR below 10 mL/min per 1·73 m2, or death from kidney failure) were assessed using prespecified Cox models, and eGFR slope analyses used shared parameter models. Subgroup comparisons were performed by including relevant interaction terms in models. EMPA-KIDNEY is registered with ClinicalTrials.gov, NCT03594110. FINDINGS Between May 15, 2019, and April 16, 2021, 6609 participants were randomly assigned and followed up for a median of 2·0 years (IQR 1·5-2·4). Prespecified subgroupings by primary kidney disease included 2057 (31·1%) participants with diabetic kidney disease, 1669 (25·3%) with glomerular disease, 1445 (21·9%) with hypertensive or renovascular disease, and 1438 (21·8%) with other or unknown causes. Kidney disease progression occurred in 384 (11·6%) of 3304 patients in the empagliflozin group and 504 (15·2%) of 3305 patients in the placebo group (hazard ratio 0·71 [95% CI 0·62-0·81]), with no evidence that the relative effect size varied significantly by primary kidney disease (pheterogeneity=0·62). The between-group difference in chronic eGFR slopes (ie, from 2 months to final follow-up) was 1·37 mL/min per 1·73 m2 per year (95% CI 1·16-1·59), representing a 50% (42-58) reduction in the rate of chronic eGFR decline. This relative effect of empagliflozin on chronic eGFR slope was similar in analyses by different primary kidney diseases, including in explorations by type of glomerular disease and diabetes (p values for heterogeneity all >0·1). INTERPRETATION In a broad range of patients with chronic kidney disease at risk of progression, including a wide range of non-diabetic causes of chronic kidney disease, empagliflozin reduced risk of kidney disease progression. Relative effect sizes were broadly similar irrespective of the cause of primary kidney disease, suggesting that SGLT2 inhibitors should be part of a standard of care to minimise risk of kidney failure in chronic kidney disease. Abstract
Objective: To analyze the burden and changing trends of periodontal disease in adults of the mainland of China from 1990 to 2019, and to predict the incidence trends of periodontal disease in the next 25 years, with a goal to provide a basis for reducing the burden of periodontal disease and formulating relevant prevention and treatment measures. Methods: Data on the incidence, prevalence, and disability adjusted life years (DALY) rate of periodontal disease among adults in the mainland of China from 1990 to 2019 were extracted from the global burden of disease study 2019 (GBD 2019) database. The estimated annual percent change (EAPC) was used to estimate the temporal trend of periodontal disease, and the age-period-cohort model (APC) was used to predict the age-standardized incidence of periodontal disease in Chinese adults from 2020 to 2044. Results: From 1990 to 2019, the incidence, prevalence, and DALY rate of adult periodontal disease in the mainland of China showed an increasing trend, with EAPCs of 0.3 (95%CI: 0.1-0.6), 0.5 (95%CI: 0.1-0.8), and 0.5 (95%CI: 0.1-0.8), respectively. The incidence and prevalence of periodontitis among the population aged 35-39 years old and 40-44 years old increased the most significantly, with EAPCs of 0.8 and 0.7, respectively, whereas the change in periodontal disease prevalence tended to be stable and the increase trend in prevalence was lower in the elderly group (EAPC=0.4). The incidence (EAPC=2.1), prevalence (EAPC=2.6) and DALY rate (EAPC=2.6) of periodontal disease in females increased more than those in males (EAPC=1.9, 2.4, and 2.4, respectively), of which the prevalence had exceeded that of males in 2019. The APC model predicted that the prevalence of periodontal disease in the period of 2020-2044 in China would still be on an upward trend, and the increase rate would be higher in females than in males. Conclusions: The burden of periodontal disease among adults in China had been increasing over the past 30 years, especially among young and middle-aged adults as well as females, and the incidence of periodontal disease will continue to increase over the next 25 years.

Abstract
BACKGROUND In this study, we explored the characteristics and causes of freckle formation. We collected 15 normal and freckled eggs each for eggshell index testing and hypothesized that the structure and function of the uterus would have a direct effect on freckled egg production given that eggshells are formed in the uterus. To test this hypothesis, we collected uterine tissue from laying hens (418 days of age) that laid normal (Group C, n = 13) and freckled (Group T, n = 16) eggs for 7 consecutive days. RESULTS When we examined the eggshell quality, we found that the L value was significantly lower (P < 0.05) in the freckled site group of freckled eggs compared to the normal egg group during the detection of blunt pole, equator, and sharp pole of the eggshell color. The a-values of the three positions were significantly higher (P < 0.05) in the freckled site group of freckled eggs, and the a-values of the blunt pole were significantly lower (P < 0.05) in the background site group of freckled eggs, compared to the normal egg group. The b-values were significantly higher (P < 0.05) at three locations in the freckled site group of freckled eggs compared to the normal egg group. During the detection of eggshell thickness, the blunt pole was significantly higher (P < 0.05) in the freckled egg site group of freckled eggs compared to the normal egg group, and there was no significant difference between the other groups (P > 0.05). There was no significant difference (P > 0.05) between the transverse and longitudinal diameters of the eggs in each group.We then performed histopathology and transcriptome analyses on the collected tissue. When compared with group C, uterine junctional epithelial cells in group T showed significant defects and cilia loss, and epithelial tissue was poorly intact. From transcriptomics, genes that met (|log2FC|) ≥ 1 and P < 0.05 criteria were screened as differentially expressed genes (DEGs). We identified a total of 136 DEGs, with 101 up- and 35 down-regulated genes from our RNA-seq data. DEGs identified by enrichment analyses, which were potentially associated with freckled egg production were: IFI6, CCL19, AvBD10, AvBD11, S100A12, POMC, and UCN3. Gene ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway enrichment analyses showed that pathways were associated with immunoreaction and stress stimulation, e.g., complement activation, interleukin-1 cell reactions, viral responses, cell reactions stimulated by corticotropin releasing hormone, steroid hormone mediated signaling pathways, staphylococcal infections, B cell receptor signaling pathways, and natural killer cell mediated cytotoxicity. CONCLUSIONS From these data, freckled areas deepen freckled eggshell color, but background areas are not affected. At the same time,we reasoned that freckle eggs may result from abnormal immune responses and impaired uterine functions induced by stress. Therefore, the uterus of laying hens in a state of stress and abnormal immune function can cause the appearance of freckled eggs.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Embryo implantation provides an efficient way for patients with repeated implantation failure (RIF) to achieve pregnancy. The aim of this study is to compare the implantation outcomes of RIF patients in artificial cycle to those in natural cycle, both were treated with RNA sequencing endometrial receptivity test (rsERT) based personalized embryo implantation. METHODS The endometrial receptivity (ER) analysis was performed using rsERT followed by personalized embryo transfer at optimal window of implantation (WOI). The implantation rate (IR), clinical pregnancy rate (CPR) and live birth rate (LBR) were calculated. The expression levels of biomarkers involved in pregnancy process in the patients detected as in receptivity status were also analyzed. RESULTS The rsERT shown that 44.8% (natural cycle) and 47.8% (artificial cycle) patients were in non-receptive status, which indicated a WOI displacement. After personalized embryo transfer, the IR of patients in artificial cycle was higher than those in natural cycle (52.2% vs 27.6%). The expressions of FKBP52, MUC1 and LPAR3 were significantly lower in artificial cycle than in natural cycle. CONCLUSION Using artificial cycle for personalized embryo transfer based on rsERT may yield better pregnancy outcomes for RIF patients. A gene expression analysis of FKBP52, MUC1 and LPAR3 provided a potential way to increase implantation outcomes for RIF patients.

Abstract
In recent ages, industrial revolution and natural weathering processes have been increasing lead (Pb) contamination in agricultural soils, therefore, green remediation technologies are becoming attractive and cost-effective. In the current pot study, 1% and 2% (w/w) application rates of sulfur (S) alone and novel chemo-mechanically S-modified baby corn biochars (CSB and MSB) were applied in a Pb-contaminated (500 mg/kg) soil to evaluate tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum L.) growth, Pb uptake and its soil availability. The results from SEM-EDS and XRD patterns confirmed the S enrichment on the surface of baby-corn biochar. Further, Pb treatment alone imposed a significant reduction in biomass accumulation, photosynthetic pigments, antioxidative mechanism, root traits, and Pb-tolerance index because of increased soil Pb availability and its uptake, translocation and biological accumulation in various tissues of tomato. However, incorporation of lower rate of elemental S (1%) and higher rates of biochars, especially chemically S-modified biochar, CSB (2%) significantly improved dry biomass production, Pb-tolerance index, physiological attributes and antioxidative defense system of tomato plants. These results might be due to a prominent decrease in soil Pb availability by 37.5%, Pb concentration in shoot by 66.7% and root by 58.3%, soil to root transfer by 33.8%, and root to shoot transfer by 20.2% in tomato plants under 2% application rate of CSB, as compared with the Pb treatment without any amendment. Moreover, sulfur treatment induced a significant impact in reduction of soil pH (from 8.97-7.47) as compared to the biochar treatments under Pb-toxicity. The current findings provided an insight that 2% chemically S-modified biochar (CSB) has significant potential to improve the tomato growth by reducing Pb bioavailability in the Pb-contaminated soil, compared to the S alone and MSB amendments.

Abstract
This study aimed to investigate the effects of selenium (Se)-enriched Bacillus subtilis (Se-BS) on growth performance, antioxidant capacity, immune status, and gut health in broilers. A total of 240 one-day-old Arbor Acres broilers were randomly allotted to four groups and fed with basal diet (control group), 0.30 mg/kg Se (SS group), 3 × 109 CFU/g B. subtilis (BS group), and 0.30 mg/kg Se + 3 × 109 CFU/g B. subtilis (Se-BS group) for 42 days. The results showed that Se-BS supplementation increased body weight (BW), average daily gain, the activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxidase (GPx), catalase (CAT), and peroxidase (POD), total antioxidant capacity (T-AOC), and the contents of interleukin (IL)-2, IL-4, and immunoglobulin (Ig) G in plasma, the index and wall thickness of the duodenum, the villus height and crypt depth of the jejunum, and GPx-1 and thioredoxin reductase 1 mRNA levels in liver and intestine and decreased feed conversion ratio (FCR) and plasma malondialdehyde (MDA) content compared with the control group on day 42 (P < 0.05). Compared with groups SS and BS, Se-BS supplementation increased BW, the activities of GPx, CAT, and POD, and the contents of IL-2, IL-4, and IgG in plasma, the index and wall thickness of the duodenum, the crypt depth and secretory IgA content of the jejunum, and GPx-1 mRNA levels in liver and intestine and decreased FCR and plasma MDA content on day 42 (P < 0.05). In conclusion, Se-BS supplementation effectively improved the growth performance antioxidant capacity, immune status, and gut health of broilers.

Abstract
The double emulsions-filled hydrogel beads delivery systems with controlled lipolysis and sustained-release property of co-encapsulated bioactive substances will be highly desired. Herein, the water-in-oil-in-water emulsion with gelled inner water phase and oil phase (WG/OG/W) filled hydrogel beads as a novel co-delivery system were developed with varied concentrations of rice bran wax and W/O emulsions to achieve effectively controlled release of lipolysis and nutraceuticals. Interestingly, the gelation of oil phase triggered by rice bran wax could enhance the storage stability of WG/OG/W emulsions due to the enhanced viscoelastic property. Increasing the mass fractions of W/O emulsions improved the stability of double emulsions due to increased viscosity and decreased particle size. Cryo-SEM observation showed that the double emulsion droplets were scattered in the three-dimensional network of alginate gel beads. Increased the addition of rice bran wax or W/O emulsions, the encapsulation efficiency of collagen peptide and astaxanthin was significantly improved. The in vitro digestion results indicated that increasing the concentrations of rice bran wax and W/O emulsion fractions in WG/OG/W emulsion-filled gel beads could effectively delay the release extent of free fatty acids and encapsulated nutraceuticals. The presence of rice bran wax contributed to increase the bioaccessibility of collagen peptide and astaxanthin.

Abstract
PURPOSE Thyroid cell lines are useful tools to study the physiology and pathology of the thyroid, however, they do not produce or secrete hormones in vitro. On the other hand, the detection of endogenous thyroid hormones in primary thyrocytes was often hindered by the dedifferentiation of thyrocytes ex vivo and the presence of large amounts of exogenous hormones in the culture medium. This study aimed to create a culture system that could maintain the function of thyrocytes to produce and secrete thyroid hormones in vitro. METHODS We established a Transwell culture system of primary human thyrocytes. Thyrocytes were seeded on a porous membrane in the inner chamber of the Transwell with top and bottom surfaces exposed to different culture components, mimicking the 'lumen-capillary' structure of the thyroid follicle. Moreover, to eliminate exogenous thyroid hormones from the culture medium, two alternatives were tried: a culture recipe using hormone-reduced serum and a serum-free culture recipe. RESULTS The results showed that primary human thyrocytes expressed thyroid-specific genes at higher levels in the Transwell system than in the monolayer culture. Hormones were detected in the Transwell system even in the absence of serum. The age of the donor was negatively related to the hormone production of thyrocytes in vitro. Intriguingly, primary human thyrocytes cultured without serum secreted higher levels of free triiodothyronine (FT3) than free thyroxine (FT4). CONCLUSION This study confirmed that primary human thyrocytes could maintain the function of hormone production and secretion in the Transwell system, thus providing a useful tool to study thyroid function in vitro.

Abstract
China's agriculture is in the transformation and development stage to adapt to the influences of climate change, technological progress and the requirements for resources and environmental protection. Optimization of cropping structure variation in the new stage is urgent. Our study systematically described the spatiotemporal variation in crop patterns in China from 1985 to 2015 and further analyzed the changes in cropping diversity and dominant cropping structure based on a county-level agricultural database. The results showed that the planted areas of staple crops and oil crops had expanded in three major grain-producing areas. Coarse crop planting has been gradually replaced by staple and oil crops. A slight increasing trend occurred in tuber crop planting in southwestern China, and fiber crop planting had already transferred from eastern to northwestern China. Moreover, cropping diversity has decreased in northern China, especially in the Northeast China Plain and North China Plain, while a slight increase has occurred in the south. Cropping structure has been simplified in past decades and it basically formed a single cropping structure dominated by staple or oil crops. Further cropping structure adjustments should focus on resource-saving, ecofriendly, intensive and efficient industrial coordination goals, adapting to the mechanization, scale and precision developments of agricultural production. It is important to develop a multifunctional innovative farming system and technology to ensure national food security.

Abstract
This study aimed to investigate the effects of the combination of selenium and Bacillus subtilis (Se-BS) on the quality and flavor of meat and slaughter performance of broilers. A total of 240 one-day-old Arbor Acres broilers were randomly allotted to four treatments of a basal diet supplemented with no selenium (control), sodium selenite (SS), BS, or Se-BS and raised for 42 days. Compared with the control group, Se-BS significantly increased the carcass weight, the half-eviscerated weight, the completely eviscerated weight, the carcass rate, and redness in broiler muscles; improved the antioxidant state by increasing glutathione peroxidase (GPx) and glutathione S-transferase activities, the total antioxidant capacity, and GPx-1 and thioredoxin reductase 1 messenger RNA (mRNA) levels; promoted biological activity by increasing the contents of glutamate, phenylalanine, lysine, and tyrosine; and increased Se and five types of nitrogenous volatile substances in muscles. On the other hand, Se-BS treatment decreased the shear force, drip loss, and the malondialdehyde, glutathione, and lead contents in muscles. Se-BS exerted a better effect on slaughter performance, the physicochemical quality of meat, the redox status, the amino acid contents, the trace element contents, and volatile substances compared with SS and BS. In conclusion, Se-BS had a positive effect on the quality and flavor of meat and slaughter performance of broilers, suggesting that Se-BS may be a beneficial feed additive.

Abstract
Despite their many advantages, covalent organic frameworks (COFs) built from three-dimensional monomers are synthetically difficult to functionalize. Herein, we provide a new synthetic approach to the functionalization of a three-dimensional covalent organic framework (COF-300) by using a series of solid-state linkage transformations. By reducing the imine linkages of the framework to amine linkages, we produced a more hydrolytically stable material and liberated a nucleophilic amino group, poised for further functionalization. We then treated the amine-linked COF with diverse electrophiles to generate a library of functionalized materials, which we tested for their ability to adsorb perfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) from water. The framework functionalized with dimethylammonium groups, COF-300-dimethyl, adsorbed more than 250 mg of perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) per 1 g of COF, which represents an approximately 14,500-fold improvement over that of COF-300 and underscores the importance of electrostatic interactions to PFAS adsorption performance. This work provides a conceptually new approach to the design and synthesis of functional three-dimensional COFs.

Abstract
BACKGROUND We aimed to establish image recognition and survival prediction models using a novel scoring system of cyclin D1 expression pattern in patients with human papillomavirus-negative oral or oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma. METHODS The clinicopathological data of 610 patients with human papillomavirus-negative oral/oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma were analyzed retrospectively. Cox univariate and multivariate risk regression analyses were performed to compare cyclin D1 expression pattern scoring with the traditional scoring method-cyclin D1 expression level scoring-in relation to patients' overall and progression-free survival. An image recognition model employing the cyclin D1 expression pattern scoring system was established by YOLOv5 algorithms. From this model, two independent survival prediction models were established using the DeepHit and DeepSurv algorithms. RESULTS Cyclin D1 had three expression patterns in oral and oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma cancer nests. Superior to cyclin D1 expression level scoring, cyclin D1 expression pattern scoring was significantly correlated with the prognosis of patients with oral squamous cell carcinoma (p < 0.0001) and oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (p < 0.05). Moreover, it was an independent prognostic risk factor in both oral squamous cell carcinoma (p < 0.0001) and oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (p < 0.05). The cyclin D1 expression pattern-derived image recognition model showed an average test set accuracy of 78.48% ± 4.31%. In the overall survival prediction models, the average concordance indices of the test sets established by DeepSurv and DeepHit were 0.71 ± 0.02 and 0.70 ± 0.01, respectively. CONCLUSION Combined with the image recognition model of the cyclin D1 expression pattern, the survival prediction model had a relatively good prediction effect on the overall survival prognosis of patients with human papillomavirus-negative oral or oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma.

Abstract
Deoxynivalenol (DON) has a strong toxic effect on the gastrointestinal mucosa of poultry. In this study, we evaluated chicken embryo development and glandular stomach damage to clarify the immunotoxic effects of DON injected through the allantoic cavity of chicken embryos. The glandular stomach index, routine blood indices, plasma inflammatory factors, pathological changes in the glandular stomach, and transcriptome results were analyzed in the hatching chicks. The results showed that DON was supertoxic to chicken embryos, causing edema, shedding, and bleeding of the mucosa of the glandular stomach, which triggered inflammatory reactions. As the toxin concentration increased, the immune system was successively activated and inhibited, and regulation was carried out by the differential regulation of the mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) signal pathway. These results suggested that the immunotoxic effect of DON on the glandular stomach of chicken embryos was closely related to the regulation of the MAPK signaling pathway.

Abstract
Chronic hepatitis B (CHB) infections caused by the hepatitis B virus (HBV) continue to pose a significant global public health challenge. Currently, the approved treatments for CHB are limited to interferon and nucleos(t)ide analogs, both of which have their limitations, and achieving a complete cure remains an elusive goal. Therefore, the identification of new therapeutic targets and the development of novel antiviral strategies are of utmost importance. Natural products (NPs) constitute a class of substances known for their diverse chemical structures, wide-ranging biological activities, and low toxicity profiles. They have shown promise as potential candidates for combating various diseases, with a substantial number demonstrating anti-HBV properties. This comprehensive review focuses on the current applications of NPs in the fight against HBV and provides a summary of their antiviral mechanisms, considering their impact on the viral life cycle and host hepatocytes. By offering insights into the world of anti-HBV NPs, this review aims to furnish valuable information to support the future development of antiviral drugs.

Abstract
Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a highly lethal disease, and surgical resection is one of the major treatment methods used. However, to date, at least to the best of our knowledge, there is no effective prognostic scoring system for the overall survival (OS) and relapse-free survival (RFS) of patients following hepatectomy. The present study developed a low-cost and easy-to-use model based on the clinicopathological characteristics of patients with HCC for assessment of outcome prediction and risk stratification. A total of 690 patients with HCC undergoing surgery were included and randomly divided into two cohorts (n=345). Cox regression analysis was conducted to investigate the association between the clinicopathological and treatment features, and patient survival. Multivariate analysis revealed that ascites, vascular tumor thrombus, low tumor differentiation and extrahepatic metastasis were independent risk factors for OS. Extrahepatic metastasis and multiple tumors were independent risk factors to predict tumor recurrence. These variables were weighted to construct the ascites, vascular tumor thrombus, low tumor differentiation, extrahepatic metastasis and multiple tumors (AVLEM) score based on the cumulative incidence (CuI) of the aforementioned variables, and the patients were classified into grade 0 (CuI=0), grade 1 (CuI=1 for OS and CuI ≥1 for RFS), and grade 2 (CuI ≥2) subgroups, respectively. Kaplan-Meier analysis revealed that the OS and RFS differed significantly among the subgroups; however, the survival rate between the two cohorts did not exhibit any marked differences. On the whole, the present study demonstrates that with this AVLEM scoring system, patients with HCC with a high score had a poor OS and RFS; thus, it is suggested that such patients undergo imaging examinations following a hepatectomy more frequently.

Abstract
Oral microbial community, as an important part of human microbial community, is closely related to oral and general health. Oral microbiological research has become the forefront of international microbiological research. Standardized and unified nomenclature for oral microorganisms in Chinese is of great significance to support the development of oral medicine research. Standardized translation of microbial names is the basis for writing canonical and authoritative professional textbooks and reference books, which helps students to accurately acquire the characteristics and classifications of oral microbes. Unified translation of oral microorganisms is also conducive to academic communication and cooperation, and plays an important role in oral health education and science popularization, which enables oral microbiology knowledge to be accurately disseminated to the public. Therefore, in order to standardize the words in scientific research, funding application, publications, academic exchanges and science popularization within the field of oral medicine, we have fully discussed and revised the Chinese names of oral microorganisms in 2017 edition and ones of newly discovered oral microbes, finally reaching a consensus to form the 2023 edition of Chinese names of oral microorganisms.

Abstract
PURPOSE This study explores the potential of TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) in encouraging attitudinal change and long-term learning and how digital technology might influence this process. The significance of the study lies in its insights to educators and policymakers to enhance language education quality and promote sustainable learning in higher education. Using a socio-cultural theoretical framework, the study presents a novel perspective on integrating digital technology into language education for improved learning outcomes. Additionally, the findings can facilitate the development of inventive teaching methods incorporating digital technology, resulting in better language education outcomes in higher education. METHODOLOGY The population comprised faculty members of Chinese universities. Data was collected through a standardized questionnaire from 307 respondents and analyzed using Mplus. FINDINGS The findings can be incorporated into language instruction rules to enhance language acquisition and advance intercultural understanding. Based on the study's findings, researchers can conduct additional research on applying digital technology in language instruction and investigate its potential to support long-term learning and attitude development. As they work to create successful techniques for encouraging sustainable learning habits and good attitudes toward language acquisition, TESOL practitioners, educators, policymakers, and researchers will be impacted by the findings. PRACTICAL IMPLICATIONS The findings can help TESOL practitioners create efficient teaching methods that encourage long-term learning habits and favorable attitudes toward language learning. Language teachers can use the results to improve their instruction methods and their effects on student learning. ORIGINALITY/VALUE Social and cultural theory supports this study's model. The approach helps in defining and measuring the TESOL, sustainable Learning. The study further established the moderating role of digital technology and the mediating part of Improved self-efficacy and self-regulated Learning.

Abstract
PURPOSE/OBJECTIVE(S) Lymphopenia is common after radiotherapy (RT) and is known for its significance on poor survival outcomes in patients with breast cancer. Previous work has demonstrated the significance of point dosimetric factors like the volume receiving 5 Gy. Considering the full dosimetric data together, this study aimed to develop and validate predictive models for lymphopenia after RT in breast cancer. MATERIALS/METHODS Patients with breast cancer treated with radiation therapy in adjuvant setting and with complete dosimetric data were eligible. Combining dose-volume histogram (DVH) dosimetric and clinical factors, dense neural network (DNN) models were developed to predict both the reduction in lymphocyte counts and the graded lymphopenia in breast cancer patients after adjuvant RT. A Shapley additive explanation was applied to explain each feature's directional contributions. The generalization of DNN models was validated in both internal and independent external validation cohorts. P<0.05 was considered to be significant. RESULTS A total of 928 consecutive patients with invasive breast cancer were eligible for this study. Treatment volumes of nearly all irradiation dose levels of DVH were significant predictors for lymphopenia after RT, including volumes at very low-dose 1 Gy (V1) of all structures considered including the lung, heart and body. DNN models using full DVH dosimetric and clinical factors were built and a simplified model was further established and validated in both internal and external validation cohorts. This simplified DNN AI model, combining full DVH dosimetric parameters of all OARs and five key clinical factors including baseline lymphocyte counts, tumor stage, RT technique, RT fields and RT fractionation, showed a predictive accuracy of 77% and above. CONCLUSION This study demonstrated and externally validated the significance of an AI model of combining clinical and full dosimetric data, especially the volume of low dose at as low as 1 Gy of all critical structures on lymphopenia after RT in patients with breast cancer. The significance of V1 deserves special attention, as modern arc RT technology often has relatively high value of this parameter. Further study warranted for breast cancer RT plan optimization.

Abstract
AIM To use multidetector row computed tomography (MDCT)-derived tricuspid annulus (TA) measurements to identify predictors for tricuspid regurgitation (TR) reduction after transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR), and to investigate the impact of TR change on prognosis. MATERIALS AND METHODS A retrospective, single-centre study was conducted on consecutive patients who underwent TAVR with concomitant baseline mild or more severe TR from April 2012 to April 2022. TA parameters were measured using MDCT. RESULTS The study comprised 266 patients (mean age 74.2 ± 7.6 years, 147 men) and 45.1% had more than one grade of TR reduction at follow-up. Independent predictors of TR reduction at follow-up were distance between TA centroid and antero-septal commissure (odd ratio [OR] 0.776; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.672-0.896, p=0.001), baseline TR of moderate or worse (OR 4.599; 95% CI: 2.193-9.648, p<0.001), systolic pulmonary artery pressure (OR 1.018; 95% CI: 1.002-1.035, p=0.027), age (OR 0.955; 95% CI: 0.920-0.993, p=0.019), and pre-existing atrial fibrillation (OR 0.209; 95% CI: 0.101-0.433, p<0.001). Patients without TR reduction had higher rates of rehospitalisation (hazard ratio [HR] 0.642; 95% CI: 0.413-0.998, p=0.049). CONCLUSIONS The MDCT-derived TA parameter was predictive of TR reduction after TAVR. Persistent TR after TAVR was associated with higher rates of rehospitalisation.

Abstract
PURPOSE Recurrent incisional hernias are challenging, and their surgical outcomes have not been well studied. We aimed to analyze the outcomes of recurrent incisional hernia repair in a propensity score-matched cohort study on laparoscopic intra-peritoneal onlay mesh repair (lap. IPOM) versus open sublay repair. METHODS All consecutive patients who had undergone open sublay repair and lap. IPOM of recurrent incisional hernia between January 2015 and December 2021 at a tertiary hernia center was identified. One-to-one propensity score matching was used to achieve a balanced exposure groups at baseline. RESULTS Of 255 patients, 85/95 with open sublay repair were matched to 85/160 with lap. IPOM. Before matching, the open sublay group had significantly larger hernia defects (6.3 cm vs. 5.0 cm) than the lap. IPOM group. Other major baseline imbalances were also found in body mass index (BMI), obesity and European Hernia Society (EHS) width classification. The pre-match results showed that the lap. IPOM group had significantly shorter operative time (median 75 vs. 95 min) and shorter postoperative hospital stay (median 8 vs. 11 days) compared with the open sublay group. Wound infection (8.4% vs. 1.9%) and hematoma (5.3% vs. 0.6%) occurred more frequently after open sublay repair. After matching, baseline characteristics were well balanced. The recurrence rate and incidence of complications were comparable between the two groups. However, the post-match analysis still showed that lap. IPOM was associated with decreased length of postoperative stay. CONCLUSION The outcomes of recurrent incisional hernia surgery after lap. IPOM and open sublay repair appear similar, except that the former had shorter length of postoperative stay. However, the poor outcomes were more likely associated with the unfavorable risk profiles, such as larger defect size, rather than the procedure technique itself.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study aimed to explore the relationship between the triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index, glycated hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c), and preeclampsia in pregnant women without gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). PATIENTS AND METHODS This retrospective study included pregnancies with normal oral glucose tolerance tests (OGTTs) from March 2018 to February 2019. During the second trimester, serum lipids, fasting plasma glucose (FPG), and HbA1c were measured, and OGTTs were performed. Participants were classified into four groups based on their TyG index and HbA1c levels. Logistic regression analysis was done to determine the odds ratios (ORs), and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis was used to evaluate the ability of the TyG index and HbA1c to predict the risks of preeclampsia. RESULTS Patients with preeclampsia exhibited higher TyG index and HbA1c levels (all p < 0.001). The incidence of preeclampsia increased with elevated TyG index and HbA1c levels individually. Furthermore, the highest incidence of preeclampsia was observed when both the TyG index and HbA1c levels were elevated. ROC curve analysis revealed that the combined TyG index and HbA1c displayed an area under the curve (AUC) of 0.689 in predicting the risk of preeclampsia. Even after adjusting for potential confounding factors, the risk of developing preeclampsia remained significantly higher. These associations were especially prominent in women aged ≥ 35 years or those with a normal BMI. CONCLUSIONS The findings of this study indicate that increased TyG index and HbA1c levels are associated with a higher incidence and risk of preeclampsia in women with normal glucose tolerance during pregnancy. The TyG index and HbA1c levels may serve as potential markers for preeclampsia in individuals with normal OGTT results.

Abstract
Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) is one of the important human pathogens and causes both superficial and systemic infections. More importantly, the formation of S. aureus biofilms, a main cause of its pathogenicity and drug resistance, has been a critical challenge in clinical treatment. Carvacrol, a plant-based natural product, has gained great interest for therapeutic purposes due to its effective biological activity with low cytotoxicity. The present study aimed to investigate the effect of carvacrol on anti-biofilm activity. Growth curve analysis showed that applying a sub-inhibitory concentration of carvacrol (4 μg mL-1) was not lethal to S. aureus SYN; however, the inhibition rate of biofilm formation was as high as 63.6%, and the clearance rate of mature biofilms was as high as 30.7%. In addition, carvacrol effectively reduced the production of biofilm-associated extracellular polysaccharides and showed no effect on eDNA release. Furthermore, qPCR analysis revealed that carvacrol significantly down-regulated the expression of icaA, icaB, icaC, agrA, and sarA (P < 0.05). The in vivo efficacy of carvacrol against biofilm infection was further verified with a biological model of G. mellonella larvae. The results showed that carvacrol was non-toxic to the larvae and can effectively increase the survival rate of the larvae infected with S. aureus strain SYN.

Abstract
Objective: To observe the status of patient-reported outcomes (PROs) and their correlation with the number of hospitalizations within 1 year in patients with atrial fibrillation(AF). Methods: This study is a prospective investigation. Patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation treated in the Department of Cardiology of the Third People's Hospital of Yancheng from May 2020 to April 2021 were selected. General information and AF6 questionnaire were used to define PROs. The number of hospitalizations within 1 year after discharge was obtained. Spearman correlation analysis was used to analyze the correlation between PROs and the New York Heart Association (NYHA) classification. The logistic regression model was used to analyze the number of hospitalizations in AF patients within 1 year. Results: A total of 197 patients were enrolled, the mean age was (74.1±9.0) years, 106 (53.8%) patients were female. The mean AF6 score was (24.3±8.3). The proportion of patients with 6 entries≥1 point exceeded 50%. There was a positive correlation between NYHA classification and PROs (r=0.360, P<0.001). Logistic regression analysis showed that the older age (OR=1.058, P=0.004) and the AF6 scores≥24(OR=4.082, P<0.001) were the risk factors of rehospitalization within 1 year for AF patients. Conclusions: The PROs of AF patients are at the medium level and poor levels of PROs are associated with increased risk of rehospitalization within 1 year.
