Abstract
Most concurrent multiscale methods that expand atomistic region by continuum domain suffer from inconsistent material constitutive properties, which affect the integrity of model in the interface of atomistic and continuum domains. In this paper, the Generalized Particle (GP) method is employed to simulate nanoindentation and nanoscratching of a single-crystal aluminum sample. The main advantage of the GP method lies in its ability to extend the simulation model while maintaining consistent atomic properties across all scales. Coarsening of the atomic domain has been conducted through two-scale and three-scale GP model. The results showed a strong consistency between the results of full atomic simulations and those achieved through the GP method for both nanoindentation and nanoscratch simulations. Also, wave reflections were not seen at the interfaces. The study revealed that an increase in the number of distinct particle domains led to a reduction in the accuracy of multiscale simulations.

Abstract
The increasing use of nanofertilizers in modern agriculture and their impact on crop yield and pest management require further research. In this study, the effects of nano-Fe, -Zn, and -Cu (which are synthesized based on nanochelating technology), and urea (N) fertilizers on the antioxidant activities of wheat plants (cv. Chamran), and the wheat green aphid Schizaphis graminum (Rondani) are investigated. The authors observed the highest levels of phenolics in non-infested nano-Zn-treated plants (26% higher compared with control). The highest H2O2 levels are in the infested and non-infested nano-Zn-treated and infested nano-Fe-treated plants (in infested nano-Zn and nano-Fe treated plants, 18% and non-infested nano-Zn-treated plants, 28% higher compared with control). The highest peroxidase (POX) activity is observed in the infested and non-infested N-treated and non-infested water-treated plants (almost 14%, 37%, and 46% higher than control, respectively). The lowest activity is in the infested plants' nano-Zn and -Fe treatments (almost 7 and 5 folds lower compared to the control, respectively). The highest and lowest catalase (CAT) activity are in the infested N-treated plants (almost 42% higher than control) and water-treated plants, respectively. The infested nano-Zn, -Fe, -Cu and Hoagland-treated plants showed the highest superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity. Regarding the antioxidant enzyme activities of S. graminum, the highest POX activity is in the nano-Cu treatment (more than two folds higher compared with control); the highest CAT and SOD activities are in the nano-Cu and -Zn treatments. It can be concluded that the application of nanofertilizers caused increasing effects on the wheat plant's antioxidant system and its resistance to S. graminum.

Abstract
Concurrent multiscale methods have been developed to reduce the degrees of freedom and reduce the effects of boundary conditions on the results of atomic simulations. In this paper, two simplified concurrent multiscale methods, one with handshake region and another without handshake region are used to investigate the nanoindentation process on a single crystal of Al at room temperature. The multiscale models are validated by observing reasonably well similarities in the load-depth curves obtained from multiscale and full MD simulations. Refining the element size down to atomic spacing resulted in high computational efforts while the analysis results do not improve significantly. Also, it is shown that by defining the thermostat in the atomistic part, wave reflections are eliminated at the interface of atomic and continuum domains. It is shown that by selecting appropriate dimensions of the atomic domain, there is no need to use nonlinear elasticity in the continuum region. Also, hardness is more affected by sample size than the elastic modulus.

Abstract
1. The objective of present study was to evaluate the effects of intra-amniotic injection of different probiotic strains (Bacillus subtilis, Enterococcus faecium and Pediococcus acidilactici) on the intestinal MUC2 gene expression, microbial population, growth performance and immune response in broiler chicken. 2. In a completely randomised design, different probiotic strains were injected into the amniotic fluid of the 480 live embryos (d 18 of incubation), with 4 treatments and 5 replicates. Ileal MUC2 gene expression, microbial profile, growth performance and immune response were determined. 3. Injection of probiotic strains, especially B. subtilis, had significant effect on expression of the MUC2 on d 21 of incubation and d 3 post-hatch, but not on d 19 of incubation. 4. Injection of the probiotic strains decreased significantly the Escherichia coli population and increased the lactic acid bacteria population during the first week post-hatch. 5. Inoculation of probiotics had no significant effect on antibody titres against Newcastle disease virus, antibody titres against sheep red blood cell and cell-mediated immune response of chickens compared to control. 6. In ovo injection of the probiotic strains had no significant effect on growth performance of broiler chickens. 7. It was concluded that injection of probiotic bacteria especially B. subtilis into the amniotic fluid has a beneficial effect on ileal MUC2 gene expression and bacteria population during the first week post-hatch, but has no effect on growth performance and immune response in broiler chickens.

Abstract
Background Inadequate epidemiologic investigations of the paranasal sinuses malignancies prompted this retrospective study with special emphasis on a major group of 111 tumors. Material and Methods Clinical records of 111 patients with histologically confirmed malignant tumors of the paranasal sinuses were investigated retrospectively from April 2000 to January 2012. Collection of data included demographic information, clinical manifestations, treatment plans, and histopathology of the tumor. Results There were 69 (62.16%) male and 42 (37.83%) female patients (male-to-female ratio of 1.6:1), with a median age of 49±12.2 years (range 21 to 88 years). A high level of occurrence was noticed in the fifth (26.3%) decade of life. The most frequent histological types were squamous cell carcinoma (43.5%) and adenoid cystic carcinoma (19%). Among clinical manifestations, nasal obstruction was the most frequent followed by diplopia, and facial swelling. Fifty three patients (47.74%) were treated with combined approach of surgery and radiation therapy. Conclusions Paranasal sinuses malignancies are rare conditions with nonspecific symptoms which make early diagnosis of the lesions more challenging. The optimal therapeutic protocol for patients suffering from these tumors is still a somewhat controversial entity and requires further studies. Abstract
A total of 360 fertile eggs from a broiler breeder strain (Ross 308) were used for in ovo feeding (IOF) of 0, 100 and 200 mg/kg Silybum marianum water extract at 17.5 d of incubation. After hatching, 240 chicks were transferred to the experimental cages. The diets consisted of two types; one of them without extract and the other one containing 100 mg/kg of Silybum marianum extract. Then chicks were exposed to elevated temperatures 4°C above optimum from 7 to 28 d of age for 4 h per d and after 28 d they were kept at optimum temperature. The chicks were divided into 6 treatments with 4 replicates as a completely randomised 2 × 3 factorial design. There was no effect of IOF of Silybum marianum extract on hatchability, body weight (BW) of hatched chicks or hatched chick BW/initial egg weight ratio. Chickens fed on the diet containing the extract had the highest feed intake, daily weight gains (DWGs), final BW and lowest feed conversion ratio. At 28 d, the weights of heart, spleen and bursa of birds in the treatment groups given extract were higher, but abdominal fat weights were lower. At 42 d in those fed extract in the diet, the weights of spleen and bursa were higher and abdominal fat weights were lower than the other groups. No differences were observed between groups in body temperature before application of the higher temperature but at 21 d and 28 d the body temperature of chicks given the Silybum marianum extract was lower than the other treatments during the elevated temperatures. In birds fed on the extract in the diet, HDL and cholesterol concentrations were lowest at 28 d, whereas blood glucose levels were higher in the other treatments. At 42 d the cholesterol concentration was significantly lower in birds given extract in their diet. These results indicated that dietary feeding of Silybum marianum extract resulted in an improvement in performance, immunity and carcass characteristics and decreased the adverse effects of the higher temperatures, specifically in reducing blood fat reduction, but IOF of the extract did not have an effect.

Abstract
The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effect of commercial monostrain and multistrain probiotics in diets on growth performance, intestinal morphology and mucin gene (MUC2) expression in broiler chicks. Three hundred seventy-eight 1-d-old male Arian broiler chicks were allocated in 3 experimental groups for 6 wk. The birds were fed on a corn-soybean based diet and depending on the addition were labeled as follows: control-unsupplemented (C), birds supplemented with Bacillus subtilis (BS) and lactic acid bacteria (LAB) based probiotics. Each treatment had 6 replicates of 21 broilers each. Treatment effects on body weight, feed intake, feed conversion ratio and biomarkers such as intestinal goblet cell density, villus length, villus width, and mucin gene expression were determined. Total feed intake did not differ significantly between control birds and those fed a diet with probiotics (p>0.05). However, significant differences in growth performance were found. Final body weight at 42 d of age was higher in birds fed a diet with probiotics compared to those fed a diet without probiotic (p<0.05). Inclusion of Bacillus subtilis based probiotic in the diets also significantly affected feed conversion rate (FCR) compared with control birds (p<0.05). No differences in growth performance were observed in birds fed different types of probiotic supplemented diets. Inclusion of lactic acid bacteria based probiotic in the diets significantly increased goblet cell number and villus length (p<0.05). Furthermore, diets with Bacillus subtilis based probiotics significantly increased gene expression (p<0.05), with higher intestinal MUC2 mRNA in birds fed diet with probiotics compared to those fed the control diet. In BS and LAB probiotic fed chicks, higher growth performance may be related to higher expression of the MUC2 gene in goblet cells and/or morphological change of small intestinal tract. The higher synthesis of the mucin gene after probiotic administration may positively affect bacterial interactions in the intestinal digestive tract, intestinal mucosal cell proliferation and consequently efficient nutrient absorption.

Abstract
The value of serum tumour markers in the prognosis of patients with breast cancer is controversial. This prospective study in Yazd, Islamic Republic of Iran, assessed the value of the tumour markers carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) and cancer antigen (CA) 15-3 in 159 patients with primary breast cancer. CEA and CA15-3 assays (mean 14 per patient) were performed at diagnosis, end of surgery and chemotherapy and every 3 months in the first 2 years and every 6 months in second 2 years of the follow-up period. During follow-up, 33 patients (20.8%) presented symptomatic metastasis. A significant relationship was seen between metastasis status and positive CEA and CA15-3 levels. The sensitivity and specificity were 66.7% and 98.4% for CEA respectively and 84.8% and 91.3% for CA15-3 respectively. Optimum cut-offs were 4.95 ng/mL and 30.5 U/mL for CEA and CA15-3 respectively.

Abstract
In vitro growth of preantral follicles has the potential to produce considerable numbers of competent oocytes for use in medicine, agriculture, and even wildlife conservation. The critical regulatory role of growth factors and hormones in the development of preantral follicles has been established. This study investigated the effect of glial-derived neurotropic factor (GDNF) and kit ligand (KL) on the in vitro development of ovine preantral follicles. Results indicated that both GDNF and KL significantly improved activation of primordial follicles, similar to co-addition of epidermal growth factor (EGF) and basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF), which are commonly used for in vitro follicular development. Importantly, GDNF had a more profound effect on follicle health, development, and differentiation compared with KL alone. Furthermore, the combination of GDNF and KL in the presence of EGF and bFGF had a positive, synergic effect on health, development, and differentiation of preantral follicles, as determined by histological and hormonal assessments. The results of this study may provide a foundation for further studies that will unravel the molecular mechanisms of follicular development to further improve the current status of in vitro preantral follicle culture.

Abstract
The aim of the current study was to investigate the effect of feeding a DHA-enriched nutriceutical on the in vitro quality and sperm motility parameters of fresh and frozen-thawed bull semen assessed by CASA. Samples were obtained from nineteen Holstein bulls used for semen collection at Semen Production Center, Karaj, Iran. Control group (n = 10) were fed a standard concentrate feed while treatment group bulls (n = 9) had this standard feed top dressed with 100 g of a commercially available DHA-enriched nutriceutical. Semen quality was assessed on ejaculates collected at the baseline and after 5, 9, and 12 weeks of supplementation. Classical semen evaluation, assessment of sperm motility (subjective and computer-assisted), viability (eosin-nigrosin), and hypo-osmotic swelling test (HOST) were conducted. Semen volume, sperm concentration, and consequently total sperm output were not affected by dietary treatment (P > 0.05). Feeding the nutriceutical was indeed found to affect sperm motility parameters assessed by CASA after 9 weeks of trial. The treatment has improved total motility (P < 0.01), progressive motility (P < 0.05), average path velocity (P < 0.05), HOST-positive (P < 0.01), and proportion of rapid spermatozoa (P < 0.01) in the fresh semen of bulls. Moreover, the proportion of viable spermatozoa increased (P < 0.05) in the ejaculates collected from nutriceutical-fed bulls compared to the control after 12 weeks of feeding trial. The post-thawed HOST and sperm motility data obtained by CASA did not differ between two groups (P > 0.05). On the other hand, dietary supplementation did not affect body weight, BCS and scrotal circumference. Consequently, it can be concluded that dietary DHA supplementation or its precursors, improve in vitro quality and motility parameters of fresh semen assessed by CASA in Holstein bulls. However, this effect was not pronounced in frozen-thawed semen.

Abstract
An experiment was conducted by eight lactating Holstein cows with an average milk production of 32.75 kg day(-1) and body weight of 643.6 kg to evaluate the effects of propylene glycol (PG) on productive performance, blood metabolites and nutrients digestibilities. In this experiment a balanced change-over design with four treatments and four periods with 21 days were employed. Treatments included: (1) Control (without PG), (2) 250 g PG/cow/day, (3) 500 g PG/cow/day and (4) 750 g PG/cow/day. Daily milk yield recorded and milk samples were taken during seven and two last days of each period. The results show that dry matter intake, milk yield, fat corrected milk yield, milk compositions were not affected (p > 0.05) by different levels of PG. Supplementing diets with 500 and 750 g PG/cow/day, significantly increased plasma glucose (p < 0.05) but other blood metabolites such as blood urea nitrogen, triglyceride and cholesterol were not affected (p > 0.05) by PG. Apparent digestibility of dry matter and organic matte was not affected (p > 0.05) by PG administration. In conclusion, plasma glucose was increased by using 500 and 750 g PG/cow/day (as powder) in the first and mid lactation stage, but the levels of 250 g PG/cow/day did not have any significant effect on dry matter intake, milk yield, milk compositions and other blood metabolites.

Abstract
The effect of electron beam irradiation at doses of 100, 200 and 300 kGy on ruminal dry matter degradation kinetics of wheat straw was investigated. Samples were irradiated by electron beam irradiator under identical conditions of temperature and humidity. Nylon bags of untreated or irradiated wheat straw were suspended in the rumen of three Taleshi steers for up to 96 h and resulting data were fitted to non-linear degradation model to calculate degradation parameters of dry matter. Results show that the washout fractions of dry matter increased linearly (p<0.001), but potentially degradable fraction and degradation rate decreased linearly (p<0.001) by electron beam irradiation. As a consequence, the effective degradability of dry matter increased linearly (p<0.001) with increasing irradiation dose. Electron beam irradiation at doses of 100, 200 and 300 kGy increased the effective degradability of dry matter at rumen outflow rate of 0.05/h by about 7, 15 and 18%, respectively. In the condition of this study, electron beam irradiation at dose of 200 kGy appeared to be a suitable dose for improving dry matter degradability of wheat straw in the rumen.

Abstract
This study was carried out to test the potentially of using rice straw substrate for the cultivation of four Pleurotus species including Pleurotus florida, Pleurotus djamor, Pleurotus sajor-caju and Pleurotus ostreatus and the effect of these species on the chemical composition, cell wall degradation and digestibility of rice straw. Rice straw soaked in water for 24 h and then it was pasteurized at 100 degrees C for 6 h. Rice straw was inoculated with spawns of four Pleurotus fungi (Pleurotus florida, Pleurotus djamor, Pleurotus sajor-caju and Pleurotus ostreatus) and packed in the plastic bags and incubated in a fermentation chamber at 23-27 degrees C and 75-85% relative humidity. After 60th day, rice straw samples from all groups were taken and analyzed for chemical composition and in vitro digestibility. The data obtained were analyzed according to the complete randomized design model consisting of four treatments plus one control and four replicates. The results of this study showed that fungal treatment increased (p<0.05) the Crude Protein (CP), silica, Ca and P contents of the rice straw but the hemicellulose, Organic Matter (OM), Acid Detergent Fiber (ADF), Neutral Detergent Fiber (NDF) and Acid Detergent Lignin (ADL) contents decreased. However, the ability of the fungi to degrade these components varied among the species. The ability of Pleurotus sajor-caju and Pleurotus ostreatus were higher than the other species in decreasing the hemicellulose, NDF, ADF and ADL contents. The highest Biological Efficiency (BE) was produced by sajor-caju species with 56.02 and the lowest was belong to Pleurotus djamor species with an average 51.17%. All species of fungi incubated on rice straw showed increased (p<0.05) the in vitro dry mater and organic matter digestibility. Rice straw treated with sajor-caju fungus had the highest in vitro dry matter digestibility (IVDMD) and in vitro organic matter digestibility (IVOMD) with 80.10 and 82.18%, respectively. In general this experiment cleared that treatment with sajor-caju can improve the quality of rice straw to be useful feed for ruminant nutrition.
