Abstract
BACKGROUND Secondary malignancy of the thyroid occurs infrequently and mainly originates from malignant tumors of the kidney, gastrointestinal tract, lungs, breast, and skin. The correct diagnosis is important but difficult. Importantly, there are major differences in the treatment of primary and metastatic thyroid cancer, which has a significant impact on prognosis and survival. Therefore, how to diagnose thyroid metastasis (TM) correctly before surgery is a major concern for surgeons.
CASE SUMMARY We report a 38-year-old woman who presented with palpable cervical lymph nodes after breast cancer (BC) surgery 2 years ago. Ultrasonography and computed tomography revealed thyroid nodules with irregular margins and enlarged cervical lymph nodes. Biopsy was performed for the right largest cervical lymph node, and immunohistochemical analysis revealed negativity for thyroglobulin, estrogen receptor, and progestin receptor and positive for human epidermal growth factor receptor 2. The diagnosis was TM from BC with cervical lymph node metastasis. Total thyroidectomy with bilateral central and lateral neck lymph node dissection was performed. After a 5-mo follow-up, no recurrence or novel distant metastasis was identified.
CONCLUSION TM from BC is a rare secondary malignancy. Broad differential diagnosis by biopsy and immunohistochemical analysis needs to be considered.

Abstract
Objective: To analyze the concordance of KRAS, NRAS, BRAF and PIK3CA gene mutations detected in plasma and matched tumor tissues in colorectal cancer patients, in order to provide good evidences to support plasma could be a potential surrogate of tumor tissue for gene mutation test. Methods: One hundred and seventy-five cases of colorectal cancer were collected at the First Hospital of Jilin University, from October 2016 to October 2017.There were 101 males and 74 females, their ages ranged from 28 to 85 years,with median age of 59 years. The KRAS, NRAS, BRAF and PIK3CA gene mutations in the plasma and paired tumor specimens of all patients were detected by next generation sequencing. Results: The results of tissue samples test were gold standard. Comparison of the four genes showed that concordance rates between plasma and tissue samples were 81.1%(Kappa=0.543), 99.4%(Kappa=0.886), 99.4% (Kappa=0.886) and 97.7%(Kappa=0.714) respectively for KRAS, NRAS, BRAF and PIK3CA. The plasma detection rates of these genes were related to tumor stage(P=0.001), but not to gender(P=0.468) and age(P=1.000) of patients. Conclusions: The study shows a high concordance of KRAS, NRAS, BRAF and PIK3CA gene mutations in plasma against mutation status in tumor tissue. In colorectal cancer, tumor tissue remains the best specimen for gene detection. However, patients from tumor tissue specimens cannot be obtained, especially those with advanced metastases, plasma can be used instead of tissue to detect the mutation status of KRAS, NRAS, BRAF and PIK3CA to guide targeted therapy.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The lethal-7 (let-7) family members and their targets are involved in the development and progression of tumors. Let-7-related polymorphisms have been reported to be associated with tumorigenesis and prognosis. In gastric cancer, however, the related studies are limited.
AIM To investigate the role of let-7-related microRNA polymorphisms in the tumorigenesis and prognosis of gastric cancer in a Chinese population.
METHODS A total of 898 gastric cancer patients and 992 tumor-free controls were recruited into this study from 2008 to 2013. Gastric cancer patients were followed periodically. Ten single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the let-7 gene region or their target mRNAs were genotyped using the MassARRAY system and their associations with the risk for or overall survival of gastric cancer were analyzed.
RESULTS All the ten SNPs were in Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium. The C allele of the rs3811463 polymorphism in the 3’-untranslated region (UTR) of LIN28A was associated with a lower risk of gastric cancer [odds ratio (OR) = 0.74, 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.61-0.88, P = 0.001] after adjustment for age and Helicobacter pylori status. Seven hundred and thirty-five gastric cancer patients who had undergone radical tumorectomy were included in the survival analysis and their 5-year survival rate was 53.9% (95%CI: 50.1%-57.6%). The rs10889677 in the 3’-UTR of IL23R was corresponded to the prognosis of gastric cancer in a dose-response manner, in which the death risk increased by 25% [hazard ratio (HR) = 1.25, 95%CI: 1.04-1.45, P = 0.011] with each increase in the number of C alleles after controlling for other potential clinicopathological parameters.
CONCLUSION The let-7-related polymorphism rs3811463 in LIN28A is associated with the susceptibility to gastric cancer and the let-7-related polymorphism rs10889677 in IL23R is associated with the prognosis of gastric cancer.

Abstract
RATIONALE Zieve syndrome, a rarely reported disease resulting from alcohol abuse, consists of a triad of symptoms: hemolytic anemia, cholestatic jaundice, and transient hyperlipidemia. It is largely under-recognized and under-reported, possibly because of unawareness of the condition by physicians. Here, we report a case of Zieve syndrome managed at the Jilin University First Bethune Hospital. PATIENT CONCERNS A 30-year-old Chinese woman presented with a 4-month history of fatigue, yellowish discoloration of the eyes, and tea-colored urine. She had been a heavy drinker for 2 years prior to onset of the disease with an average daily alcohol intake of 60 g/d and more than 80 g/d for the previous 6 months. DIAGNOSIS The diagnosis of Zieve syndrome was confirmed based on hemolysis and cholestatic jaundice secondary to alcoholic liver disease and heavy drinking. Bone marrow biopsy and liver biopsy both supported the diagnosis. INTERVENTIONS We treated her with abstinence from alcohol and supportive therapy. OUTCOMES The patient was discharged 14 days after admission with an improvement in symptoms, which continued to subside during the 2-month follow-up period. LESSONS Doctors confronted with hemolysis in a patient with alcoholic liver disease should be aware of the under-reported Zieve syndrome. Recognition of this syndrome could help doctors avoid unnecessary invasive procedures and emphasize the importance of alcohol abstinence as the mainstay of management. Glucocorticoids may not be useful in treating hemolytic anemia in Zieve syndrome.

Abstract
AIM: To investigate the role of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in CD24 gene in susceptibility and overall survival of gastric cancer (GC).
METHODS: We genotyped 3 tagging SNPs of CD24-P-534 in the promoter region, P170 in the coding region of exon 2 and P1527 in the 3′ untranslated region - using polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism in specimens from 679 histologically-confirmed GC cases, 111 gastric atrophy (GA) cases and 976 tumor-free controls. Serum immunoglobulin G antibodies to Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) of all subjects were detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. CD24 expression was evaluated by immunohistochemistry in 131 GC specimens. Correlations between SNPs and risk of GC or GA were shown by P values and odd ratios (ORs) with 95% confidence intervals (95%CI) compared with the most common genotype of each SNP using the unconditional logistic regression model after adjusting for age, sex and H. pylori infection. Survival within each SNP group was plotted by Kaplan-Meier method and compared by log-rank test (recessive model). Hazard ratios with 95%CIs were computed by Cox regression model after adjusting for age, sex, histological type, tumor differentiation, clinical stage and post-operational chemotherapy.
RESULTS: All of the three loci were in Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium in the control group. Median follow-up time for the 600 GC patients included in the survival analysis was 36.2 mo (range, 2.1-66.7 mo; 95%CI: 34.3-36.5 mo). Patients with the P-534 A/A genotype had significantly shorter survival (HR = 1.38, 95%CI: 1.01-1.88, P = 0.042) than did the C/C or C/A genotype carriers after adjusting for age, sex, histological type, tumor differentiation, clinical stage and post-operational chemotherapy. This trend was more evident in patients who lived longer than 2.5 years (HR = 7.55, 95%CI: 2.16-26.32, P = 0.001). The P170 T/T genotype was associated with a shorter lifespan than the non-T/T genotypes, but not significantly so. None of the three genetic variants was found to be associated with risk of GC (including tumor stage, grade and distant metastasis) or with risk of gastric atrophy. Furthermore, no difference of CD24 expression was found among the genotypes.
CONCLUSION: The P-534 site in CD24 gene affects the overall survival of gastric cancer and may serve as a prognostic marker for gastric cancer.

Abstract
Matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-2 and MMP-9 are important proteases involved in invasion and metastasis of various tumors. Extra-gastrointestinal stromal tumors (EGISTs) are rare neoplasms. This study was performed to assess MMP-2 and MMP-9 expression in EGIST tissue samples for association with clinicopathological data from the patients. Twenty-one surgical EGIST tissue specimens were collected for analysis of MMP-2 and MMP- 9 expression using immunohistochemistry. MMP-2 and MMP-9 proteins were expressed in all of the epithelial cell types of EGISTs, whereas they were only expressed in 75% of the spindle cell type, although there was no statistically significant difference (p>0.05). Expression of MMP-2 and MMP-9 proteins was associated with tumor size, mitotic rate, tumor necrosis, and distant metastasis (p<0.05). MMP-2 expression was linked with MMP-9 levels (p<0.05). However, there was no correlation between MMP-9 expression and age, sex, primary site, or cell morphology in any of these 21 EGIST patients (p>0.05). Moreover, expression of MMP-2 and MMP-9 proteins increased with the degree of EGIST risk. This study provided evidence of an association of MMP-2 and MMP-9 expression with advanced EGIST behavior.

Abstract
Aldehyde dehydrogenase 1 (ALDH1), a cancer stem cell marker, has been reported to be altered in human carcinogenesis. This study assessed the expression of ALDH1 protein in invasive vs. noninvasive bladder cancer tissues for association with clinicopathological factors and bladder cancer prognosis. Tissue samples were collected from 227 bladder cancer patients, including 118 with noninvasive and 109 with invasive bladder cancer for immunostaining of ALDH1 expression. ALDH1 expression in tumor tissues was significantly greater than that in adjacent normal tissues. ALDH1 protein was highly expressed in 29.07% (66/227) of bladder tumor tissues (i.e., 24.58% of noninvasive bladder cancer tissues vs. 33.94% of invasive bladder cancer tissues). In patients with noninvasive bladder cancer, ALDH1 protein expression was significantly associated with an advanced tumor grade and frequent tumor recurrence (P≤0.05). In patients with invasive bladder cancer, ALDH1 protein expression was significantly associated with an advanced tumor grade, stage, as well as lymph node and distant metastases (P≤0.05). After adjusting for the confounding factors, ALDH1 protein expression was significantly associated with relapse-free survival in noninvasive bladder cancer patients [HR (95% CI)=4.45 (1.32-15.04); P=0.027] and overall survival in invasive bladder cancer patients [HR (5% CI)=2.86 (1.72-8.83); P=0.020]. These data indicate that ALDH1 expression plays an important role in bladder cancer development and prognosis. Further validation of our results is warranted in a larger sample cohort, and further investigation of ALDH1 signaling and function will increase our understanding of ALDH1 in bladder cancer progression.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Recent studies have focused on the diagnostic and prognostic significance of CD24 and CD44 expression in human cancers. This study aimed to explore changes in CD44 and CD24 expression levels in patients with gastric cancer and to assess their prognostic values. METHODS CD44 and CD24 expression levels were investigated immunohistochemically in tumor samples from 290 patients with non-cardia gastric adenocarcinoma, of whom 77 had paired adjacent normal gastric mucosa. CD24 and CD44 mRNA levels were determined by quantitative polymerase chain reaction in 34 patients. Serum anti-Helicobacter pylori IgG was detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Relationships between CD44 and CD24 protein expression levels and tumor parameters were analyzed and their prognostic values were evaluated by Cox proportional hazards models. RESULTS CD24 and CD44 expression levels were significantly higher in patients with gastric cancer compared with those in paired controls (45.5% vs. 0.0%, and 61.0% vs. 0.0%, P < 0.001). Among 290 patients, the overall survival rate was significantly higher in CD44(-) compared with CD44(+) patients (log-rank test, P = 0.035). However, there was no significant correlation between CD24 expression and overall survival time (log-rank test, P = 0.115). Multivariate regression analysis indicated that positive CD44 expression (P = 0.029), TNM staging (P < 0.001), and lymphovascular invasion (P = 0.016), but not CD24 expression (P = 0.065), were independent prognostic factors in gastric cancer. CONCLUSIONS Individual expression of CD44 was associated with poor survival in patients with gastric carcinoma.

Abstract
AIM To explore the alteration of DNA methyltransferase expression in gastric cancer and to assess its prognostic value. METHODS From April 2000 to December 2010, 227 men and 73 women with gastric cancer were enrolled in the study. The expression of DNA methyltransferases (DNMTs), including DNMT1, DNMT3a and DNMT3b, in the 300 cases of gastric carcinoma, of which 85 had paired adjacent normal gastric mucus samples, was evaluated by immunohistochemistry using a tissue microarray. Serum anti-Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) IgG was detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). The relationships between the above results and the clinicopathological characteristics were analyzed. Their prognostic value was evaluated using the Cox proportional hazards model. RESULTS In gastric cancer, expression of DNMTs was mainly seen in the nucleus. Weak staining was also observed in the cytoplasm. Expression of DNMT1, DNMT3a and DNMT3b in gastric cancer was significantly higher compared to that in the paired control samples (60.0% vs 37.6%, 61.2% vs 4.7%, and 94.1% vs 71.8%, P < 0.01). The overall survival rate was significantly higher in the DNMT3a negative group than in the DNMT3a positive group in gastric cancer patients (Log-rank test, P = 0.032). No significant correlation was observed between DNMT1 and DNMT3b expression and the overall survival time (Log-rank test, P = 0.289, P = 0.347). Multivariate regression analysis indicated that DNMT3a expression (P = 0.025) and TNM stage (P < 0.001), but not DNMT1 (P = 0.54) or DNMT3b (P = 0.62), were independent prognostic factors in gastric cancer. H. pylori infection did not induce protein expression of DNMTs. CONCLUSION The results suggest that expression of DNMT3a is an independent poor prognostic indicator in gastric cancer. DNMT3a might play an important role in gastric carcinogenesis.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate discovered on gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST)-1 (DOG-1) and protein kinase C-θ (PKC-θ) expression in a series of GISTs and determine the sensitivity, specificity, and diagnostic value of these two antigens. METHODS Immnunohistochemistry (IHC) was used to detect CD117, DOG-1, PKC-θ, CD34, Ki-67, α-smooth muscle actin (SMA), S100, and Desmin expression in 147 GISTs and 51 non-GISTs. c-Kit gene (exons 9, 11, 13, and 17) and platelet-derived growth factor receptor-alpha (PDGFRA) gene (exons 12 and 18) mutations were also detected. RESULTS About 94.5% GISTs were CD117 positive, 96% were DOG-1 positive, and 90.5% were PKC-θ positive. DOG-1 had a specificity of 100%, while CD117 and PKC-θ had a specificity of 90% and 80%, respectively. There was no significant difference between DOG-1 and PKC-θ expressions when compared to CD117 expression. In 30 out of 42 (71.5%) GISTs, a c-Kit gene mutation was found, and in 3 out of 42 cases (7%), PDGFRA was mutated. Wild-type c-Kit/PDGFRA genes accounted for 21.5% (9/42). Most c-Kit gene mutations were found to be located at exon 11, mainly as in-frame deletions. Mutations in exon 9 were all missense mutations. Most PDGFRA gene mutations were found in exon 18, codon 842. c-Kit gene mutations in exons 13 and 17, and the PDGFRA gene mutation in exon 12 were not detected. CONCLUSIONS Compared to CD117, DOG-1 is a biomarker with higher sensitivity and specificity. The combination of CD117 and DOG-1 can be used to improve the diagnosis of GIST. Although PKC-θ has a lower specificity than DOG-1, it can be a useful biomarker, especially in CD117(-) and/or DOG-1(-) cases.

Abstract
AIM To explore the alteration of tyrosine phosphatase SHP-2 protein expression in gastric cancer and to assess its prognostic values. METHODS Three hundred and five consecutive cases of gastric cancer were enrolled into this study. SHP-2 expression was carried out in 305 gastric cancer specimens, of which 83 were paired adjacent normal gastric mucus samples, using a tissue microarray immunohistochemical method. Correlations were analyzed between expression levels of SHP-2 protein and tumor parameters or clinical outcomes. Serum anti-Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) immunoglobulin G was detected with enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Cox proportional hazards model was used to evaluate prognostic values by compassion of the expression levels of SHP-2 and disease-specific survivals in patients. RESULTS SHP-2 staining was found diffuse mainly in the cytoplasm and the weak staining was also observed in the nucleus in gastric mucosa cells. Thirty-two point five percent of normal epithelial specimen and 62.6% of gastric cancer specimen were identified to stain with SHP-2 antibody positively (P < 0.001). Though SHP-2 staining intensities were stronger in the H. pylori (+) group than in the H. pylori (-) group, no statistically significant difference was found in the expression levels of SHP-2 between H. pylori (+) and H. pylori (-) gastric cancer (P = 0.40). The SHP-2 expression in gastric cancer was not significantly associated with cancer stages, lymph node metastases, and distant metastasis of the tumors (P = 0.34, P = 0.17, P = 0.52). Multivariate analysis demonstrated no correlation between SHP-2 expression and disease-free survival (P = 0.86). CONCLUSION Increased expression of SHP-2 protein in gastric cancer specimen suggesting the aberrant up-regulation of SHP-2 protein might play an important role in the gastric carcinogenesis.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To report a hypertensive and systematically pigmented female with primitive neuroectodermal tumors. CLINICAL PRESENTATION AND INTERVENTION A female patient presented with a complaint of right flank pain. She had a right renal space-occupying lesion, underwent right radical nephrectomy, and returned to normotensive postoperatively. The pathological examination identified typical primitive neuroectodermal tumor histology. During a 60-month follow-up period, she remained normotensive and demonstrated normal renal and adrenal functions. CONCLUSION Early diagnosis and definitive surgery led to the patient's long-term survival.

Abstract
AIM To investigate screening makers for gastric cancer, we assessed the association between gastric cancer and serum pepsinogens (PGs). METHODS The subjects comprised 450 patients with gastric cancer, 111 individuals with gastric atrophy, and 961 healthy controls. Serum anti-Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) immunoglobulin G (IgG), PGI and PG II were detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Gastric atrophy and gastric cancer were diagnosed by endoscopy and histopathological examinations. Odds ratios and 95%CIs were calculated using multivariate logistic regression. RESULTS Rates of H. pylori infection remained high in Northeastern China. Rates of H. pylori IgG positivity were greater in the gastric cancer and gastric atrophy groups compared to the control group (69.1% and 75.7% vs 49.7%, P < 0.001). Higher levels of PG II (15.9 μg/L and 13.9 μg/L vs 11.5 μg/L, P < 0.001) and lower PGI/PG II ratio (5.4 and 4.6 vs 8.4, P < 0.001) were found in patients with gastric cancer or gastric atrophy compared to healthy controls, whereas no correlation was found between the plasma PGI concentration and risk of gastric cancer (P = 0.537). In addition, multivariate logistic analysis indicated that H. pylori infection and atrophic gastritis were independent risk factors for gastric cancer. Lower plasma PGI/PG II ratio was associated with higher risks of atrophy and gastric cancer. Furthermore, plasma PG II level significantly correlated with H. pylori-infected gastric cancer. CONCLUSION Serum PG II concentration and PGI/PG II ratio are potential biomarkers for H. pylori-infected gastric disease. PG II is independently associated with risk of gastric cancer.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION DNA methyltransferase-1(DNMT1) is an important enzyme in determining genomic methylation patterns in mammalian cells. We investigated the associations between SNPs in the DNMT1 gene and risks of developing H. pylori seropositivity, gastric atrophy and gastric cancer in the Chinese population. METHODS The study consisted of 447 patients with gastric cancer; 111 patients with gastric atrophy; and 961 healthy controls. Five SNPs, rs10420321, rs16999593, rs8101866, rs8111085 and rs2288349 of the DNMT1 gene were genotyped. Anti-H.pylori IgG was detected by ELISA. Gastric atrophy was screened by the level of serum pepsinogen Ι and II and then confirmed by endoscopy and histopatholgical examinations. RESULTS The age- and sex-adjusted OR of H. pylori seropositivity was 0.67 (95%CI: 0.51-0.87) for rs8111085 TC/CC genotypes, significantly lower than the TT genotype in healthy controls. The adjusted OR of H.pylori seropositivity was 0.68 (95%CI: 0.52-0.89) for rs10420321 AG/GG genotypes. In addition, patients carrying rs2228349 AA genotype have a significantly increased risk for H.pylori seropositivity (OR=1.67; 95%CI: 1.02-2.75). Further haplotype analyses also showed that the ATTTG and ATCTA are significantly associated with increased risks in H.pylori infection compared to the GTCCG haplotype (OR=1.38, 95%CI: 1.08-1.77; OR=1.40, 95% CI: 1.09-1.80). The adjusted ORs of gastric atrophy were 1.66 (95%CI: 1.06-2.61) for rs10420321 GG genotype, and 1.67 (95%CI 1.06-2.63, P=0.03) for rs8111085 CC genotype, but no association was found between SNPs in the DNMT1 gene and risk of developing gastric cancer. CONCLUSIONS Individuals with rs10420321 GG and rs8111085 CC genotype of the DNMT1 gene were associated with reduced risks for H.pylori infection. On the other hand, higher risks of gastric atrophy were found in the carriers with these two genotypes compared to other genotypes. Our results suggested that SNPs of DNMT1 could be used as genotypic markers for predicting genetic susceptibilities to H.pylori infection and risks in gastric atrophy.

Abstract
Background The interaction between Src homology 2 domain-containing protein tyrosine phosphatase (SHP-2) of gastric epithelial cells and cagA from H. pylori plays a crucial role in developments of gastric atrophy and gastric cancer. This study aimed to investigate the association of haplotype tagging SNPs (htSNPs) in the PTPN11 gene encoding SHP-2 with gastric atrophy and gastric cancer in Chinese population. Methods The subjects comprised 414 patients with gastric cancer, 109 individuals with gastric atrophy and 923 healthy controls. Blood was collected from October 2008 to October 2010. Five htSNPs rs2301756, rs12423190, rs12229892, rs7958372 and rs4767860 from the PTPN11 gene were selected and genotyped by Taqman assay. Serum Ig G antibodies to H. pylori were detected by ELISA. Gastric atrophy was screened by the levels of serum pepsinogenIandII, and confirmed by endoscopy and histopatholgical examinations. Odds ratio (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated by a multivariate logistic regression. Results Among H. pylori seropositive subjects, age and gender-adjusted OR of gastric atrophy was 2.47 (95%CI 1.13-4.55, P = 0.02) for CC genotype compared with CT/TT genotypes, suggesting a recessive model of genetic risk for rs12423190. The prevalence of H. pylori seropositivity were significantly higher in groups of gastric cancer and gastric atrophy compared to the control group (70.3% vs. 75.2% vs. 49.7%, P <0.001). However, the distributions of genotypes and haplotypes in patients with gastric cancer were not significantly different from healthy controls. Conclusions Our study provides the first evidence that rs12423190 polymorphism of the PTPN11 gene is significantly associated with an increased risk of gastric atrophy in H. pylori infected Chinese Han population, suggesting that rs12423190 polymorphism could be used as a useful marker of genetic susceptibility to gastric atrophy among H. pylori infected subjects. The biological roles of this polymorphism require a further investigation.

Abstract
AIM: To investigate the role of expressions of Ki-67, p53, epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) in gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) grading and prognosis.
METHODS: Tumor tissue was collected retrospectively from 96 patients with GIST. Antibodies against Ki-67, p53, EGFR and COX-2 were used for immunohistochemical staining. Tumor grading was designated according to a consensus system and the staining was quantified in 3 categories for each antibody in the statistical analysis.
RESULTS: The Ki-67 expression in GISTs was significantly associated with the size of the tumors, mitotic rate and the risk of malignancy (χ2 = 15.51, P = 0.02; χ2 = 22.27, P < 0.001; χ2 = 20.05; P < 0.001). The p53 expression was also significantly correlated with mitotic rate and the risk of malignancy (χ2 = 9.92, P = 0.04; χ2 = 9.97; P = 0.04). Over-expression of Ki-67 was strongly correlated with poor survival (χ2 = 10.44, P = 0.006), but no correlation was found between the expression of p53, EGFR or COX-2 and survival. Multivariate analysis further demonstrated that Ki-67 expression (relative risk = 15.78, 95% CI: 4.25-59.37) could be used as an independent prognostic value for GIST patients. Adjuvant imatinib therapy could improve clinical outcomes in the patients with high risk and intermediate risk of recurrence after complete tumor resections (median survival time: 52 mo vs 37 mo, χ2 = 7.618, P = 0.006).
CONCLUSION: Our results indicated that the expression of Ki-67 could be used as an independent prognostic factor for GIST patients.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To explore the clinical features and treatment of spermatic cord liposarcoma (SCL). METHODS We retrospectively analyzed the clinical data of a case of SCL, reviewed the related literature and investigated the diagnosis and treatment of the disease. RESULTS The patient underwent tumor resection and left inguinal orchidectomy. Postoperative pathology confirmed the case to be s SCL. Neither recurrence nor metastasis was found during the five-month follow-up. CONCLUSION SCL is a rare medical condition with no specific imaging and laboratory features. Radical orchidectomy with wide local excision of the mass is recommended for its treatment, and adjuvant radiotherapy can be considered in intermediately or highly differentiated tumors and recurrent liposarcomas, while the role of chemotherapy is not well-defined.

Abstract
Primary adrenal lymphoma (PAL) accompanied by hypertension is extremely rare. We present a case of PAL with hypertension, whom was treated with bilateral adrenalectomy and a combination of the modified Appleby operation and chemotherapy. Computed tomography and biopsy is helpful to aid diagnosis.

Abstract
The monolithic integration of N-channel metal-oxide-semiconductor (NMOS) driver circuits in silicon thin films onto a lead lanthanum zirconate titanate (PLZT) substrate is reported. Two integration methods are compared. Both methods result in NMOS transistors that exhibit electrical properties that are close to those of transistors fabricated in bulk silicon. The characteristics of PLZT modulators driven by thin-film transistors are also similar to those of bulk PLZT modulators. These techniques promise new spatial light modulators of high complexity and performance that good-quality silicon and bulk PLZT can offer.

Abstract
Four cases of malignant tumor of the shoulder were treated by radical resection of the shoulder girdle, saving the upper extremity. During follow up, all patients were able to use their upper extremities with satisfactory function and stability. This article presents the indications, operative technique, and follow up.
