Syntheses and crystal structures of three salts of 1-(4-nitro-phenyl)-piperazine

The crystal structures and Hirshfeld surface analyses of three salts of 1-(4-nitro-phenyl)-piperazine with 2-chloro-benzoic acid, 2-bromo-benzoic acid and 2-iodo-benzoic acid are reported. The chloro-benzoate salt, C₁₀H₁₄N₃O₂ ⁺·C₇H₄ClO₂ ^-, contains whole-ion-disordered cations and anions, which were modeled with two equivalent conformations with occupancies of 0.745 (10)/0.255 (10) and 0.563 (13)/0.437 (13), respectively. The bromo-benzoate and iodo-benzoate derivatives are isomorphous and crystallize as hemihydrates, viz. C₁₀H₁₄N₃O₂ ⁺·C₇H₄BrO₂ ^-·0.5H₂O and C₁₀H₁₄N₃O₂ ⁺·C₇H₄IO₂ ^-·0.5H₂O, respectively [the water mol-ecule is disordered over two locations with occupancies of 0.276 (3)/0.223 (3) for the iodo-benzoate derivative]. In the extended structures, all three salts feature an R ⁴ ₄(12) loop of two anions and two cations linked by N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds.

Syntheses, crystal structures and Hirshfeld surface analysis of three salts of 1-(4-nitro-phenyl)-piperazine

The structures and Hirshfeld surface analysis of three salts of 1-(4-nitro-phenyl)-piperazine are discussed. In 4-(4-nitro-phen-yl)piperazin-1-ium salicylate (C₁₀H₁₄N₃O₂ ⁺·C₇H₅O₃ ^-), there are strong hydrogen bonds between cation and anion and the 4-nitro-phenyl substituent occupies an equatorial position in the piperazinium ring. The cation and anion are linked together by supra-molecular inter-actions [graph-set notation of hydrogen bonding (6) propagating in the a-axis direction]. Additionally, there is π-π stacking involving the salicylate anion and the piperazinium cation in adjacent asymmetric units as well as a C-H⋯π inter-action between a hydrogen atom on the piperazine ring and the phenyl ring within the salicyclate anion. In bis-[4-(4-nitro-phen-yl)piperazin-1-ium] bis-(4-fluoro-benzoate) trihydrate (2C₁₀H₁₄N₃O₂ ⁺·2C₇H₄FO₂ ^-·3H₂O), there are two cations, two anions, and three water mol-ecules of solvation in the asymmetric unit, all linked by hydrogen bonds [graph-set notation of hydrogen bonding R ² ₂(20) between adjacent cations and R ³ ₃(9) between a cation and its adjacent anion]. In the anion, the 4-nitro-phenyl ring occupies an axial substitution position in the piperazinium ring, which is relatively rare. Within the asymmetric unit, the phenyl groups in the cations show an offset π-π inter-action. Additionally, there is a C-H⋯π inter-action between a hydrogen atom on the phenyl ring within a cation and the phenyl ring within an anion. In 4-(4-nitro-phen-yl)piperazin-1-ium 3,5-di-nitro-benzoate (C₁₀H₁₄N₃O₂ ⁺·C₇H₄N₂O₆ ^-), there is a strong N-H⋯O hydrogen bond linking the cation and anion and the 4-nitro-phenyl ring occupies an axial substitution position in the piperazinium ring, as seen in the previous structure. In the crystal, the cation and the anion form a complex three-dimensional hydrogen-bonded array involving R ² ₂(8), R ⁴ ₄(12) and R ⁴ ₄(20) rings propogating in the a-axis direction. The nitro-phenyl group is disordered with occupancies of 0.806 (10) and 0.194 (10).

Syntheses, crystal structures and Hirshfeld surface analysis of 4-(4-nitro-phen-yl)piperazin-1-ium tri-fluoro-acetate and 4-(4-nitro-phen-yl)piperazin-1-ium tri-chloro-acetate

The synthesis and crystal structures of the mol-ecular salts of 4-(4-nitro-phen-yl)piperazine with tri-fluoro-acetate, namely, 4-(4-nitro-phen-yl)piperazin-1-ium tri-fluoro-acetate, C₁₀H₁₄N₃O₂ ⁺·C₂F₃O₂ ^- (I), and with tri-chloro-acetate, namely, 4-(4-nitro-phen-yl)piperazin-1-ium tri-chloro-acetate, C₁₀H₁₄N₃O₂ ⁺·C₂Cl₃O₂ ^-, (II), are reported and compared. A partial positional disorder of the anions was found. In both structures, the piperazine rings adopt a chair conformation, whereas the positions of the nitro-phenyl group on the piperazine ring differ from bis-ectional in (I) to equatorial in (II). In both structures, the supra-molecular assemblies are mono-periodic on the basis of the chain-of-rings motifs supported by aromatic π-π inter-actions. Hirshfeld surface analysis was used to explore the inter-molecular close contacts in both crystals. The most dominant contacts of the Hirshfeld surface of the cation-anion pairs of the asymmetric units are O⋯H/H⋯O, and those with a contribution of halogen atoms: F⋯H/H⋯F in (I) and Cl⋯H/H⋯Cl in (II), respectively.

Anti-Proliferative Acyl Phenols and Arylnonanoids from the Fruit Rind of Myristica malabarica Lam

Phytochemical investigation of the methanol extract of the fruit rind of Myristica malabarica led to the isolation of eight known compounds that were identified as malabaricones A-D, promalabaricones B and C, 1-(2,6-dihydroxyphenyl)tetradecan-1-one, and ericanone by comparison with literature spectroscopic data. The structures of malabaricones A-D, promalabaricone B, and 1-(2,6-dihydroxyphenyl)tetradecan-1-one were confirmed by X-ray crystallography. In vitro assay of the isolated phenols indicated that they exhibited moderate anti-proliferative activity against the A2780 human ovarian cancer cell. Compounds (1, 3, 5, 6 and 7) had the most potent activities, whereas the anti-proliferative activities of compounds 2 and 4 were less potent.

The structures of eleven (4-phen-yl)piperazinium salts containing organic anions

Eleven (4-phen-yl)piperazinium salts containing organic anions have been prepared and structurally characterized, namely, 4-phenyl-piperazin-1-ium 4-fluoro-benzoate monohydrate, C₁₀H₁₅N₂ ⁺·C₇H₄FO₂ ^-·H₂O, 1; 4-phenyl-piperazin-1-ium 4-bromo-benzoate monohydrate, C₁₀H₁₅N₂ ⁺·C₇H₄BrO₂ ^-·H₂O, 3; 4-phenyl-piperazin-1-ium 4-iodo-benzoate, C₁₀H₁₅N₂ ⁺·C₇H₄IO₂ ^-, 4; 4-phenyl-piperazin-1-ium 4-nitro-benzoate, C₁₀H₁₅N₂ ⁺·C₇H₄NO₄ ^-, 5; 4-phenyl-piperazin-1-ium 3,5-di-nitro-salicylate, C₁₀H₁₅N₂ ⁺·C₇H₃N₂O₇ ^-, 6; 4-phenyl-piperazin-1-ium 3,5-di-nitro-benzoate, C₁₀H₁₅N₂ ⁺·C₇H₃N₂O₆ ^-, 7; 4-phenyl-piperazin-1-ium picrate, C₁₀H₁₅N₂ ⁺·C₆H₂N₃O₇ ^-, 8; 4-phenyl-piperazin-1-ium benzoate monohydrate, C₁₀H₁₅N₂ ⁺·C₇H₅O₂ ^-·H₂O, 9; 4-phenyl-piperazin-1-ium p-toluene-sulfonate, C₁₀H₁₅N₂ ⁺·C₇H₇O₃S^-, 10; 4-phenyl-piperazin-1-ium tartarate monohydrate, C₁₀H₁₅N₂ ⁺·C₄H₅O₆ ^-·H₂O, 11; and 4-phenyl-piperazin-1-ium fumarate, C₁₀H₁₅N₂ ⁺·C₄H₃O₄ ^-, 12. Compounds 1 and 3-12 are all 1:1 salts with the acid proton transferred to the phenyl-piperaizine basic N atom (the secondary amine) with the exception of 3 where there is disorder in the proton position with it being 68% attached to the base and 32% attached to the acid. Of the structures with similar stoichiometries only 3 and 9 are isomorphous. The 4-phenyl substituent in all cases occupies an equatorial position except for 12 where it is in an axial position. The crystal chosen for structure 7 was refined as a non-merohedral twin. There is disorder in 5, 6, 10 and 11. For both 5 and 6, a nitro group is disordered and was modeled with two equivalent orientations with occupancies of 0.62 (3)/0.38 (3) and 0.690 (11)/0.310 (11), respectively. For 6, 10 and 11, this disorder is associated with the phenyl ring of the phenyl-piperazinium cation with occupancies of 0.687 (10)/0.313 (10), 0.51 (7)/0.49 (7) and 0.611 (13)/389 (13), respectively. For all salts, the packing is dominated by the N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds formed by the cation and anion. In addition, several structures contain C-H⋯π (1, 3, 4, 8, 9, 10, and 12) and aromatic π-π stacking inter-actions (6 and 8) and one structure (5) contains a -NO₂⋯π inter-action. For all structures, the Hirshfeld surface fingerprint plots show the expected prominent spikes as a result of the N-H⋯O and O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds.

Isopropyl 4-aminobenzoate

The title compound crystallizes with two mol­ecules in the asymmetric unit, which form double chains in the crystal linked by N—H⋯O and N—H⋯N hydrogen bonds.

The title compound, C₁₀H₁₃NO₂, crystallizes with two mol­ecules (A and B) in the asymmetric unit. For A, the dihedral angle between the plane of the phenyl ring and the i-propyl substituent is 65.4 (3)° while for B this angle is 67.8 (3)°. In the crystal, the mol­ecules are linked by N—H⋯O and N—H⋯N hydrogen bonds to generate double chains propagating in the [100] direction.

Synthesis, structural characterization, and evaluation of new peptidomimetic Schiff bases as potential antithrombotic agents

New Schiff bases functionalized with amide and phenolic groups synthesized by the condensation of 2-hydroxybenzaldehyde and 2-hydroxyacetophenone with amino acid amides which in turn were prepared in two steps from N-Boc-amino acids and homoveraltrylamine through intermediate compounds N-Boc-amino acids amides. The compounds were characterized by elemental analysis, FT-IR, UV–Vis, and NMR spectroscopy. The crystal structures of three Schiff bases were determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction. The Schiff bases have been screened for anticoagulant and antiplatelet aggregation activities. All the compounds showed procoagulant activity which shortens the clotting time of citrated human plasma in both platelet-rich plasma and platelet-poor plasma except the derivatives of L-methionine which showed anticoagulant activity by prolonging the clotting time. In addition, the compounds derived from benzyl cysteine and phenylalanine showed adenosine diphosphate induced antiplatelet aggregation activity, whereas others did not show any role. Moreover, all these compounds revealed non-hemolytic activity with red blood cells.

Crystal-structure studies of 4-phenylpiperazin-1-ium 4-ethoxybenzoate monohydrate, 4-phenylpiperazin-1-ium 4-methoxybenzoate monohydrate, 4-phenylpiperazin-1-ium 4-methylbenzoate monohydrate and 4-phenylpiperazin-1-ium trifluoroacetate 0.12-hydrate

In this study, four new piperazinium salts, namely, 4-phenylpiperazin-1-ium 4-ethoxybenzoate monohydrate, C9H9O3·C10H15N2·H2O (I); 4-phenylpiperazin-1-ium 4-methoxybenzoate monohydrate, C10H15N2·C8H7O3·H2O (II); 4-phenylpiperazin-1-ium 4-methylbenzoate monohydrate, C10H15N2·C8H7O2·H2O (III); and 4-phenylpiperazin-1-ium trifluoroacetate 0.12 hydrate, C10H15N2·C2F3O2·0.12H2O (IV), have been synthesized. The single-crystal structures of these compounds reveal that all of them crystallize in the triclinic P\overline{1} space group and the crystal packing of (I)–(III) is built up of ribbons formed by a combination of hydrogen bonds of type N—H...O, O—H...O and other weak interactions of type C—H...O and C—H...π, leading to a three-dimensional network. In the crystal of (IV), the cations and the anions are connected by C—H...O, N—H...O and C—H...F hydrogen bonds and by C—H...π interactions, forming sheets which in turn interact to maintain the crystal structure by linking through the oxygen atoms of water molecules and van der Waals interactions, giving the whole structure.

Crystal structures of six 4-(4-nitrophenyl)piperazin-1-ium salts

Six piperazinium salts are reported, five of them are hydrated and two crystallized as 2:2 salts. They exhibit asymmetric units of a common 4-nitro­phenyl­piperazine cation and different p-substituent benzoate anions. Their crystal structures mainly pack as chains stabilized by strong N—H⋯O and O—H⋯O hydrogen bonds and other weak inter­actions such as C—H⋯O and C—H⋯π.

Six piperazinium salts, namely 4-(4-nitro­phenyl)­piperazin-1-ium 4-bromo­ben­zo­ate dihydrate, C₁₀H₁₄N₃O₂⁺·C₇H₄BrO₂⁻·2H₂O, (I), 4-(4-nitro­phenyl)­pi­per­a­zin-1-ium 4-iodo­benzoate dihydrate, C₁₀H₁₄N₃O₂⁺·C₇H₄IO₂⁻·2H₂O, (II), 4-(4-nitro­phenyl)­piperazin-1-ium 4-hy­droxy­benzoate monohydrate, C₁₀H₁₄N₃O₂⁺·C₇H₅O₃⁻·H₂O, (III), 4-(4-nitro­phenyl)­piperazin-1-ium 4-methyl­benzoate monohydrate, C₁₀H₁₄N₃O₂⁺·C₈H₇O₂⁻·H₂O, (IV), 4-(4-nitro­phenyl)­piperazin-1-ium 4-meth­oxy­benzoate hemihydrate, 2C₁₀H₁₄N₃O₂⁺·2C₈H₇O₃⁻·H₂O, (V), and 4-(4-nitro­phenyl)­piperazin-1-ium 4-eth­oxy­benzoate, 2C₁₀H₁₄N₃O₂⁺·2C₉H₉O₃⁻, (VI), have been synthesized and their crystal structures solved by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, revealing that all of them crystallize in the triclinic space group P except for (V), which crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P2₁/c and has a disordered nitro group. Compounds (I) and (II) are isostructural. The crystal packing of (I)–(V) is constructed from organic chains formed by a combination of hydrogen bonds of type N—H⋯O and/or O—H⋯O and other weak inter­actions of type C—H⋯O and/or C—H⋯π, forming sheets, whereas (VI) shows a cationic and anionic-based layer structure.

Bi- and trimetallic complexes with macrocyclic xanthene-4,5-diNHC ligands

Three different types of bimetallic NHC-metal complexes were synthesized, whose NHC units are attached at the 4,5-positions of xanthene. The NHC units are in close proximity and are designed such that each carbene coordinates one ML unit, while the chelation of one metal by two NHC is not possible. Several xanthene-((NHC)ML)₂ complexes with ML = RhCl(cod), IrCl(cod), RhCl(CO)₂, IrCl(CO)₂, AuCl, AgCl, CuCl and Pd(allyl)Cl were synthesized and investigated.

Crystal structure studies of 4-ethyl-piperazin-1-ium 3,5-di-nitro-benzoate, 4-methyl-piperazin-1-ium 3,5-di-nitro-benzoate and 4-methyl-piperazin-1-ium 4-iodo-benzoate

As part of our ongoing investigation on the chemical and biological properties of piperazinium salts, we synthesized three novel compounds: 1-ethyl-piperazinium 3,5-di-nitro-benzoate (I), 1-methyl-piperazinium 3,5-di-nitro-benzoate (II) and 1-methyl-piperazinium 4-iodo-benzoate (III). The crystal structures of these compounds are built up of organic layers formed by the strong connection between the mol-ecules by hydrogen bonds of type N-H⋯O. These layers are linked through N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds and C-H⋯O inter-actions or C-I⋯N halogen bonding, leading to the formation of a three-dimensional network.

Crystal structures of three N-acyl-hydrazone isomers

The crystal structures of three isomers of (E)-4-chloro-N-{2-[2-(chloro-benzyl-idene)hydrazin-yl]-2-oxoeth-yl}-benzene-sulfonamide, namely, (E)-4-chloro-N-{2-[2-(2-chloro-benzyl-idene)hydrazin-yl]-2-oxoeth-yl}-benzene-sulfonamide (I), (E)-4-chloro-N-{2-[2-(3-chloro-benzyl-idene)hydrazin-yl]-2-oxoeth-yl}-benzene-sul-fon-amide (II) and (E)-4-chloro-N-{2-[2-(4-chloro-benzyl-idene)hydrazin-yl]-2-oxo-eth-yl}-benzene-sulfonamide (III), with the general formula C15H13Cl2N3O3S are described, with the chloro group in ortho, meta and para positions in the benzyl-idene benzene ring. All the three isomeric compounds crystallize in the centrosymmetric triclinic P space group with one mol-ecule each in the asymmetric unit and two mol-ecules in the unit cell. The dihedral angles between the two phenyl rings are 11.09 (14), 53.79 (18) and 72.37 (11)° in (I), (II) and (III), respectively. The central part of the mol-ecule (-C-N-N=C-) is almost linear with C-N-N-C torsion angles of 179.1 (2), -169.5 (3) and 178.5 (2)° for (I), (II) and (III), respectively. In all the three crystals, the mol-ecules form inversion dimers with R 2 2(8) ring motifs, which are further augmented by C-H⋯O inter-actions.

The crystal structures of three disordered 2-substituted benzimidazole esters

The crystal structures of three benzimidazole esters containing aryl or heterocyclic substituents at position 2 are reported, and all three exhibit disorder of mol-ecular entities. In ethyl 1-methyl-2-[4-(prop-2-yn-oxy)phen-yl]-1H-benzimidazole-5-carboxyl-ate, C20H18N2O3, (I), the prop-2-yn-1-oxyphenyl unit is disordered over two sets of atomic sites having effectively equal occupancies, 0.506 (5) and 0.494 (5). The propyl substituent in ethyl 1-propyl-2-(pyren-1-yl)-1H-benzimidazole-5-carboxyl-ate, C29H24N2O2, (II), is disordered over two sets of atomic sites having occupancies 0.601 (8) and 0.399 (8), and the ester unit in ethyl 1-methyl-2-(5-chloro-3-methyl-1-phenyl-1H-pyrazol-4-yl)-1H-benzimidazole-5-carboxyl-ate, C21H19ClN4O2 (III), is disordered over two sets of atomic sites having occupancies 0.645 (7) and 0.355 (7). In each of the C-H⋯π(arene) hydrogen bonds in (I), the donor and acceptor form parts of different disorder components, so that no continuous aggregation is possible. The mol-ecules of (II) are linked by a single C-H⋯O hydrogen bond into C(10) chains, which are linked into sheets by a π-π stacking inter-action, whereas those of (III) are just linked into C(13) chains, again by a single C-H⋯O hydrogen bond. Comparisons are made with the structures of some related compounds.

Different patterns of supra-molecular aggregation in three amides containing N-(benzo[d]thia-zol-yl) substituents

Crystal structures are reported for three amides containing N-benzo[d]thia-zole substituents. In N-(benzo[d]thia-zol-6-yl)-3-bromo-benzamide, C14H9BrN2OS, where the two ring systems are nearly parallel to one another [dihedral angle = 5.8 (2)°], the mol-ecules are linked by N-H⋯O and C-H⋯N hydrogen bonds to form ribbons of R 3 3(19) rings, which are linked into sheets by short Br⋯Br inter-actions [3.5812 (6) Å]. N-(6-Meth-oxy-benzo[d]thia-zol-2-yl)-2-nitro-benzamide, C15H11N3O4S, crystallizes with Z' = 2 in space group Pna21: the dihedral angles between the ring systems [46.43 (15) and 66.35 (13)°] are significantly different in the independent mol-ecules and a combination of two N-H⋯N and five C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds links the mol-ecules into a three-dimensional network. The mol-ecules of 5-cyclo-propyl-N-(6-meth-oxy-ben-zo[d]thia-zol-2-yl)-isoxazole-3-carboxamide, C15H13N3O3S, exhibit two forms of disorder, in the meth-oxy group and in the cyclo-propyl-isoxazole unit; symmetry-related pairs of mol-ecules are linked into dimers by pairwise N-H⋯N hydrogen bonds. Comparisons are made with the structures of some related compounds.

Reduced 3,4'-bi-pyrazoles carrying thio-phene and thia-zole substituents: structures of two intermediates and two products

Cyclo-addition reactions between 3-(5-ar-yloxy-3-methyl-1-phenyl-1H-pyrazol-4-yl)-1-(thio-phen-2-yl)prop-2-en-1-ones and thio-semicarbazide leads to the formation of reduced 3,4'-bi-pyrazole-2-carbo-thio-amides. Further cyclo-addition of these inter-mediates with either diethyl acetyl-enedi-carboxyl-ate or 4-bromo-phenacyl bromide leads to reduced 3,4'-bi-pyrazoles carrying oxo-thia-zole or thia-zole substituents, respectively. The structures of two representative inter-mediates and two representative products established unambiguously the regiochemistry of the cyclo-addition reactions. The mol-ecules of 3'-methyl-5'-(2-methyl-phen-oxy)-1'-phenyl-5-(thio-phen-2-yl)-3,4-di-hydro-1'H,2H-3,4'-bi-pyra-zole-2-carbo-thio-amide, C25H23N5OS2 (Ia), are linked by N-H⋯N hydrogen bonds to form simple C(8) chains. The analogous compound 5'-(2,4-di-chloro-phen-oxy)-3'-methyl-1'-phenyl-5-(thio-phen-2-yl)-3,4-di-hydro-1'H,2H-3,4'-bi-pyra-zole-2-carbo-thio-amide hemihydrate crystallizes as a hemihydrate, C24H19Cl2N5OS2·0.5H2O (Ib), and the independent components are linked into a chain of spiro-fused R 4 4(20) rings by a combination of O-H⋯N and N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds. In the structure of ethyl (Z)-2-{2-[3'-methyl-1'-phenyl-5-(thio-phen-2-yl)-5'-(2-methyl-phen-oxy)-3,4-di-hydro-1'H,2H-3,4'-bi-pyrazole-2-yl]-4-oxo-4,5-di-hydro-thia-zol-5-yl-idene}acetate, C31H27N5O4S2 (II), inversion-related pairs of mol-ecules are linked by paired C-H⋯π(arene) hydrogen bonds to form cyclic centrosymmetric dimers, but there are no direction-specific inter-molecular inter-actions in 4-(4-bromo-phen-yl)-2-[5'-(2,4-di-chloro-phen-oxy)-3'-methyl-1'-phenyl-5-(thio-phen-2-yl)-3,4-di-hydro-1'H,2H-3,4'-bi-pyrazole-2-yl]-4-thia-zole, C32H22BrCl2N5OS2 (III). Comparisons are made with the structures of some related compounds.

Six 1-halobenzoyl-4-(2-meth-oxy-phen-yl)piperazines having Z' values of one, two or four; disorder, pseudosymmetry, twinning and supra-molecular assembly in one, two or three dimensions

Six 1-halobenzoyl-4-(2-meth-oxy-phen-yl)piperazines have been prepared using carbodi-imide-mediated coupling reactions between halo-benzoic acids and N-(2-meth-oxy-phen-yl)piperazine. The mol-ecules of 1-(4-fluoro-benzo-yl)-4-(2-meth-oxy-phen-yl)piperazine, C18H19FN2O2 (I), are linked into a chain of rings by a combination of C-H⋯O and C-H⋯π(arene) hydrogen bonds. 1-(4-Chloro-benzo-yl)-4-(2-meth-oxy-phen-yl)piperazine, C18H19ClN2O2 (II), crystallizes in the space group Pca21 with Z' = 4 and it exhibits both pseudosymmetry and inversion twinning: a combination of six C-H⋯O and two C-H⋯π(arene) hydrogen bonds generate a three-dimensional assembly. In 1-(4-bromo-benzo-yl)-4-(2-meth-oxy-phen-yl)piperazine, C18H19BrN2O2 (III), which also crystallizes in space group Pca21 but with Z' = 2, the bromo-benzoyl unit in one of the mol-ecules is disordered. Pseudosymmetry and inversion twinning are again present, and a combination of three C-H⋯O and one C-H⋯π(arene) hydrogen bonds generate a two-dimensional assembly. A single C-H⋯O hydrogen bond links the mol-ecules of 1-(4-iodo-benzo-yl)-4-(2-meth-oxy-phen-yl)piperazine, C18H19IN2O2 (IV), into simple chains but in the isomeric 3-iodo-benzoyl analogue (V), which crystallizes in space group P212121 with Z' = 2, a two-dimensional assembly is generated by a combination of four C-H⋯O and two C-H⋯π(arene) hydrogen bonds; pseudosymmetry and inversion twinning are again present. A single C-H⋯O hydrogen bond links the mol-ecules of 1-(2-fluoro-benzo-yl)-4-(2-meth-oxy-phen-yl)piperazine, C18H19FN2O2 (VI), into simple chains. Comparisons are made with the structures of some related compounds.

Two 3-amino-1H-pyrazol-2-ium salts containing organic anions, and an ortho-rhom-bic polymorph of 3-amino-1H-pyrazol-2-ium nitrate

Co-crystallization from methanol of 3-amino-1H-pyrazole with 3,5-di-nitro-benzoic acid produces 3-amino-1H-pyrazol-2-ium 3,5-di-nitro-benzoate monohydrate, C3H6N3 +·C7H3N2O6 -·H2O, (I), while similar co-crystallization of this pyrazole with an equimolar qu-antity of fumaric acid produces bis-(3-amino-1H-pyrazol-2-ium) fumarate-fumaric acid (1/1), 2C3H6N3 +·C4H2O4 2-·C4H4O4, (II). The reaction of 3-amino-1H-pyrazole with a dilute solution of nitric acid in methanol yields a second, ortho-rhom-bic polymorph of 3-amino-1H-pyrazol-2-ium nitrate, C3H6N3 +·NO3 -, (III). In each of (I)-(III), the bond distances in the cation provide evidence for extensive delocalization of the positive charge. In each of (I) and (II), an extensive series of O-H⋯O and N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds links the components into complex sheets, while in the structure of (III), the ions are linked by multiple N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds into a three-dimensional arrangement. Comparisons are made with the structures of some related compounds.

1-(3,5-Dinitrobenzoyl)-4-(2-methoxyphenyl)piperazine

The mol­ecules of the title compound are linked into sheets by two π–π stacking inter­actions.

In the title compound, C₁₈H₁₈N₄O₆, the piperazine ring adopts a chair conformation, the amidic N atom is planar (sum of angles = 360°) and the non-amidic N atom is pyramidal (343°). There are no hydrogen bonds of any kind in the crystal, but the mol­ecules are linked by two independent π(nitro­benzene)⋯π(meth­oxy­benzene) stacking inter­actions to form π-stacked sheets with inter-centroid separations of 3.8444 (12) and 3.9197 (12) Å.

Fifteen 4-(2-meth-oxy-phen-yl)piperazin-1-ium salts containing organic anions: supra-molecular assembly in zero, one, two and three dimensions

Fifteen 4-(2-meth-oxy-phen-yl)piperazin-1-ium salts containing organic anions have been prepared and structurally characterized. In the isostructural 4-chloro-benzoate and 4-bromo-benzoate salts, C11H17N2O+·C7H4ClO2 - (I) and C11H17N2O+·C7H4BrO2 - (II), and the 4-iodo-benzoate salt C11H17N2O+·C7H4IO2 - (III), the ions are linked by N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds, forming centrosymmetric R 4 4(12) four-ion aggregates; a similar aggregate is formed in the 2-chloro-benzoate salt (V), isomeric with (I). In the 2-fluoro-benzoate salt C11H17N2O+·C7H4FO2 - (IV), and the isomorphous pair of salts, the 2-bromo-benzoate (VI), isomeric with (II) and 2-iodo-benzoate (VII), isomeric with (III), N-H⋯O and C-H⋯π(arene) interactions link the components into three-dimensional arrays. Four-ion R 4 4(12) aggregates are also found in the 2-methyl-benzoate, 4-amino-benzoate and 4-nitro-benzoate salts, C11H17N2O+·C8H7O2 - (VIII), C11H17N2O+·C7H6NO2 - (IX) and C11H17N2O+·C7H4NO4 - (X), but those in (IX) are linked into complex sheets by an additional N-H⋯O hydrogen bond. In the 3,5-dinitrobenzoate salt, C11H17N2O+·C7H3N2O6 -·2H2O (XI), N-H⋯O and O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds link the components into a complex ribbon structure. In the picrate salt, C11H17N2O+·C6H2N3O7 - (XII), the four-ion aggregates are linked into chains of rings by C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds. In the hydrogen maleate salt, C11H17N2O+·C4H3O4 - (XIII), two- and three-centre hydrogen bonds link the ions into a ribbon structure while both anions contain very short but asymmetric O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds, having O⋯O distances of 2.4447 (16) and 2.4707 (17) Å. O-H⋯O Hydrogen bonds link the anions in the hydrogen fumarate salt (XIV), isomeric with (XIII), into chains that are linked into sheets via N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds. In the hydrogen (2R,3R)-tartrate salt, C11H17N2O+·C4H5O6 -·1.698H2O (XV), the anions are linked into sheets by O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds. Comparisons are made with the structures of some related compounds.

Order versus disorder in two isomorphous pyrazolone-substituted diethyl propane-dioates prepared using a three-component one-pot reaction under solvent-free conditions

Two new substituted propane-dioate esters have been synthesized using a three-component solvent-free thermal reaction between diethyl propane-dioate (diethyl malonate), 5-chloro-3-methyl-1-phenyl-1H-pyrazole-4-carbaldehyde and an aryl azide, forming two new C-C bonds in a single step. The products diethyl (RS)-2-[(4-bromo-phen-yl)(5-methyl-3-oxo-2-phenyl-2,3-di-hydro-1H-pyrazol-4-yl)meth-yl]propane-dioate, C24H25BrN2O5 (I), and diethyl (RS)-2-[(4-chloro-phen-yl)(5-methyl-3-oxo-2-phenyl-2,3-di-hydro-1H-pyrazol-4-yl)meth-yl]propane-dioate, C24H25ClN2O5 (II), are isomorphous, with Z' = 2 in space group P21/n. The two independent mol-ecules in compound (I) are both fully ordered, while each of the independent mol-ecules in compound (II) is disordered, but in different ways. In one mol-ecule of (II), the N-phenyl ring is disordered over two sets of atomic sites having occupancies 0.635 (10) and 0.365 (10), and in the other mol-ecule the ester function is disordered over two sets of atomic sites having occupancies 0.690 (5) and 0.310 (5). In both structures, the two independent mol-ecules adopt different conformations and, in each structure, the mol-ecules are linked into complex sheets by a combination of N-H⋯O, C-H⋯O and C-H⋯π(arene) hydrogen bonds. Comparisons are made with some related structures.

A very short O-H⋯O hydrogen bond in the structure of clozapinium hydrogen bis-(3,5-di-nitro-benzoate)

The title compound features a very short, but asymmetric, O—H⋯O hydrogen bond having an O⋯O distance of 2.452 (3) Å within the anion.

In the title salt {systematic name: 4-[6-chloro-2,9-di­aza­tri­cyclo­[9.4.0.0^3,8]penta­deca-1(15),3(8),4,6,9,11,13-heptaen-10-yl]-1-methyl­piperazin-1-ium 3,5-di­nitro­benzoate–3,5-di­nitro­benzic acid (1/1)}, C₁₈H₂₀ClN₄⁺·C₇H₃N₂O₆⁻·C₇H₄N₂O₆, there is a very short, asymmetric, O—H⋯O hydrogen bond [O⋯O = 2.453 (3) Å] within the anion. The oxygen atoms of one of the nitro groups of the anion are disordered over two sets of sites having occupancies of 0.56 (3) and 0.44 (3). The fused tricyclic portion of the cation adopts a butterfly conformation, with a dihedral angle of 45.59 (6)° between the planes of the two aryl rings. In the crystal, a combination of O—H⋯O, N—H⋯O and C—H⋯O hydrogen bonds links the component species into a three-dimensional framework. Comparisons are made with the structures of some related compounds.

The crystal structures of salts of N-(4-fluoro-phen-yl)piperazine with four aromatic carb-oxy-lic acids and with picric acid

The structures are reported for five salts formed by reactions between N-(4-fluoro-phen-yl)piperazine and aromatic acids. In 4-(4-fluoro-phen-yl)piperazin-1-ium 2-fluoro-benzoate monohydrate, C10H14FN2 +·C7H4FO2 -·H2O, (I), the components are linked by a combination of N-H⋯O and O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds to form a chain of alternating R 4 6(12) and R 6 6(16) rings. The ionic components of 4-(4-fluoro-phen-yl)piperazin-1-ium 2-bromo-benzoate 0.353-hydrate, C10H14FN2 +·C7H4BrO2 -·0.353H2O, (II), are linked by N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds to form a centrosymmetric four-ion aggregate containing an R 4 4(12) motif, and these aggregates are linked into a mol-ecular ladder by a single C-H⋯π(arene) hydrogen bond. 4-(4-Fluoro-phen-yl)piperazin-1-ium 2-iodo-benzoate, C10H14FN2 +·C7H4IO2 -, (III), crystallizes with Z' = 2 in space group P : the four independent ions are linked by N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds to form a non-centrosymmetric aggregate again containing an R 4 4(12) motif, and aggregates of this type are linked into a ribbon by a combination of C-H⋯O and C-H⋯π(arene) hydrogen bonds. The anion in 4-(4-fluoro-phen-yl)piperazin-1-ium 2,4,6-tri-nitro-phenolate, C10H14FN2 +·C6H2N3O7 -, (IV), shows clear evidence of extensive electronic delocalization from the phenolate O atom into the adjacent ring. The ions are linked by a combination of two-centre N-H⋯O and three-centre N-H⋯(O)2 hydrogen bonds to form centrosymmetric four-ion aggregates containing three types of ring. The ions in 4-(4-fluoro-phen-yl)piperazin-1-ium 3,5-di-nitro-benzoate, C10H14FN2 +·C7H3N2O6 -, (V), are again linked by N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds to form centrosymmetric R 4 4(12) aggregates, which are themselves linked by a C-H⋯π(arene) hydrogen bond to form sheets, the stacking of which leads to the formation of narrow channels, containing disordered and/or mobile solvent entities. Comparisons are made with some related structures.

Two N-{[4-(3-aryl-4-sydnonyl-idene-amino)-5-sulfan-yl-idene-1H-1,2,4-triazol-3-yl]meth-yl}benzamides as disordered ethanol monosolvates

Two new N-{[4-(3-aryl-4-sydnonyl-idene-amino)-5-sulfanyl-idene-1H-1,2,4-triazol-3-yl]meth-yl}benzamides have been prepared by acid-promoted condensation reactions between 3-aryl-4-formyl-sydnones and N-[(4-amino-5-sulfanyl-idene-1H-1,2,4-triazol-3-yl)meth-yl]benzamide, and both have been crystallized as ethanol monosolvates. N-{[4-(3-Phenyl-4-sydnonyl-idene-amino)-5-sulfanyl-idene-1H-1,2,4-triazol-3-yl]meth-yl}benzamide ethanol monosolvate, C19H15N7O3S·C2H6O (I), and N-({4-[3-(4-methyl-phen-yl)-4-sydnonyl-idene-amino]-5-sulfanyl-idene-1H-1,2,4-triazol-3-yl}meth-yl)benzamide ethanol monosolvate, C20H17N7O3S·C2H6O (II), differ only in the presence of a methyl group for (II) instead of a hydrogen atom for (I), and in both of them the ethanol component is disordered over two sets of atomic sites having occupancies of 0.836 (6) and 0.164 (6) in (I), and 0.906 (6) and 0.094 (6) in (II). Combinations of O-H⋯O and N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds link the mol-ecules into cyclic, centrosymmetric four-mol-ecule aggregates. Comparisons are made with the structures of some related compounds.

Three 4-(4-fluoro-phen-yl)piperazin-1-ium salts containing organic anions: supra-molecular assembly in one, two and three dimensions

Three salts containing the 4-(4-fluoro-phen-yl)piperazin-1-ium cation have been prepared and structurally characterized. In 4-(4-fluoro-phen-yl)piperazin-1-ium 2-hy-droxy-3,5-di-nitro-benzoate, C10H14FN2 +·C7H3N2O7 -, (I), the anion contains an intra-molecular O-H⋯O hydrogen bond, and it has a structure similar to that of the picrate ion. The cations and anions are linked into [001] chains of rings by a combination of two three-centre N-H⋯(O)2 hydrogen bonds. The anion in 4-(4-fluoro-phen-yl)piperazin-1-ium hydrogen oxalate, C10H14FN2 +·C2HO4 -, (II), is planar, and the cations and anions are linked into (100) sheets by multiple hydrogen bonds including two-centre N-H⋯O, three-centre N-H⋯(O)2, O-H⋯O, C-H⋯O and C-H⋯π(arene) types. In 4-(4-fluoro-phen-yl)piperazin-1-ium hydrogen (2R,3R)-tartrate monohydrate, C10H14FN2 +·C4H5O6 -·H2O, (III), the anion exhibits an approximate non-crystallographic twofold rotation symmetry with anti-periplanar carboxyl groups. A combination of eight hydrogen bonds, encompassing two- and three-centre N-H⋯O systems, O-H⋯O and C-H⋯π(arene) types, link the independent components into a three-dimensional framework. Comparisons are made with some related structures.

Crystal structures of the recreational drug N-(4-meth-oxy-phen-yl)piperazine (MeOPP) and three of its salts

Crystal structures are reported for N-(4-meth-oxy-phen-yl)piperazine (MeOPP), (I), and for its 3,5-di-nitro-benzoate, 2,4,6-tri-nitro-phenolate (picrate) and 4-amino-benzoate salts, (II)-(IV), the last of which crystallizes as a monohydrate. In MeOPP, C11H16N2O, (I), the 4-meth-oxy-phenyl group is nearly planar and it occupies an equatorial site on the piperazine ring: the mol-ecules are linked into simple C(10) chains by N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds. In each of the salts, i.e., C11H17N2O+·C7H3N2O6 -, (II), C11H17N2O+·C6H2N3O7 -, (III), and C11H17N2O+·C7H6NO2 -·H2O, (IV), the effectively planar 4-meth-oxy-phenyl substituent again occupies an equatorial site on the piperazine ring. In (II), two of the nitro groups are disordered over two sets of atomic sites and the bond distances in the anion indicate considerable delocalization of the negative charge over the C atoms of the ring. The ions in (II) are linked by two N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds to form a cyclic, centrosymmetric four-ion aggregate; those in (III) are linked by a combination of N-H⋯O and C-H⋯π(arene) hydrogen bonds to form sheets; and the components of (IV) are linked by N-H⋯O, O-H⋯O and C-H⋯π(arene) hydrogen bonds to form a three-dimensional framework structure. Comparisons are made with the structures of some related compounds.

Crystal structures of three 6-aryl-2-(4-chloro-benz-yl)-5-[(1H-indol-3-yl)meth-yl]imidazo[2,1-b][1,3,4]thia-diazo-les

Three title compounds, namely, 2-(4-chloro-benz-yl)-5-[(1H-indol-3-yl)meth-yl]-6-phenyl-imidazo[2,1-b][1,3,4]thia-diazole, C26H19ClN4S, (I), 2-(4-chloro-benz-yl)-6-(4-fluoro-phen-yl)-5-[(1H-indol-3-yl)meth-yl]imidazo[2,1-b][1,3,4]thia-diazole, C26H18ClFN4S, (II), and 6-(4-bromo-phen-yl)-2-(4-chloro-benz-yl)-5-[(1H-indol-3-yl)meth-yl]imidazo[2,1-b][1,3,4]thia-diazole, C26H18BrClN4S, (III), have been prepared using a reductive condensation of indole with the corresponding 6-aryl-2-(4-chloro-benz-yl)imidazo[2,1-b][1,3,4]thia-diazole-5-carbaldehydes (aryl = phenyl, 4-fluoro-phenyl or 4-bromo-phen-yl), and their crystal structures have been determined. The asymmetric unit of compound (I) consists of two independent mol-ecules and one of the mol-ecules exhibits disorder of the 4-chloro-benzyl substituent with occupancies 0.6289 (17) and 0.3711 (17). Each type of mol-ecule forms a C(8) chain motif built from N-H⋯N hydrogen bonds, which for the fully ordered mol-ecule is reinforced by C-H⋯π inter-actions. In compound (II), the chloro-benzyl unit is again disordered, with occupancies 0.822 (6) and 0.178 (6), and the mol-ecules form C(8) chains similar to those in (I), reinforced by C-H⋯π inter-actions involving only the major disorder component. The chloro-benzyl unit in compound (III) is also disordered with occupancies of 0.839 (5) and 0.161 (5). The mol-ecules are linked by a combination of one N-H⋯N hydrogen bond and four C-H⋯π inter-actions, forming a three-dimensional framework.

Synthesis, crystal structures, photophysical, electrochemical studies, DFT and TD-DFT calculations and Hirshfeld analysis of new 2,2′:6′,2′′-terpyridine ligands with pendant 4′-(trimethoxyphenyl) groups and their homoleptic ruthenium complexes

[Ru(L1)₂](PF₆)₂ (1) and [Ru(L2)₂](PF₆)₂ (2): X-ray structures, CH⋯F/O, OH⋯F/N, CH⋯O/π, π⋯π interactions, absorption and emission spectra, DFT/TD-DFT, Hirshfeld analysis.

Synthesis, oxide formation, properties and thin film transistor properties of yttrium and aluminium oxide thin films employing a molecular-based precursor route

Combustion synthesis of dielectric yttrium oxide and aluminium oxide thin films is possible by introducing a molecular single-source precursor approach employing a newly designed nitro functionalized malonato complex of yttrium (Y-DEM-NO₂1) as well as defined urea nitrate coordination compounds of yttrium (Y-UN 2) and aluminium (Al-UN 3). All new precursor compounds were extensively characterized by spectroscopic techniques (NMR/IR) as well as by single-crystal structure analysis for both urea nitrate coordination compounds. The thermal decomposition of the precursors 1–3 was studied by means of differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermogravimetry coupled with mass spectrometry and infrared spectroscopy (TG-MS/IR). As a result, a controlled thermal conversion of the precursors into dielectric thin films could be achieved. These oxidic thin films integrated within capacitor devices are exhibiting excellent dielectric behaviour in the temperature range between 250 and 350 °C, with areal capacity values up to 250 nF cm⁻², leakage current densities below 1.0 × 10⁻⁹ A cm⁻² (at 1 MV cm⁻¹) and breakdown voltages above 2 MV cm⁻¹. Thereby the increase in performance at higher temperatures can be attributed to the gradual conversion of the intermediate hydroxy species into the respective metal oxide which is confirmed by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). Finally, a solution-processed Y_xO_y based TFT was fabricated employing the precursor Y-DEM-NO₂1. The device exhibits decent TFT characteristics with a saturation mobility (μ_sat) of 2.1 cm² V⁻¹ s⁻¹, a threshold voltage (V_th) of 6.9 V and an on/off current ratio (I_on/off) of 7.6 × 10⁵.

The monohydrated benzoate, 4-fluoro-benzoate, 4-chloro-benzoate and 4-bromo-benzoate salts, C₁₁H₁₇N₂O⁺·C₇H₅O₂ ^-·H₂O (I), C₁₁H₁₇N₂O⁺·C₇H₄FO₂ ^-·H₂O (II), C₁₁H₁₇N₂O⁺·C₇H₄ClO₂ ^-·H₂O (III), and C₁₁H₁₇N₂O⁺·C₇H₄BrO₂ ^-·H₂O (IV), respectively, are isomorphous and all exhibit disorder in the 4-meth-oxy-phenyl unit: the components are linked by N-H⋯O and O-H⋯O hydrogen bond to form chains of rings. The unsolvated 2-hy-droxy-benzoate, pyridine-3-carboxyl-ate and 2-hy-droxy-3,5-di-nitro-benzoate salts, C₁₁H₁₇N₂O⁺·C₇H₅O₃ ^- (V), C₁₁H₁₇N₂O⁺·C₆H₄NO₂ ^- (VI) and C₁₁H₁₇N₂O⁺·C₇H₃N₂O₇ ^- (VII), respectively, are all fully ordered: the components of (V) are linked by multiple N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds to form a chain of rings; those of (VI) are linked into a three-dimensional framework by a combination of N-H⋯O, C-H⋯O and C-H⋯N hydrogen bonds and those of (VII), where the anion has a structure reminiscent of the picrate anion, are linked into a three-dimensional array by N-H⋯O and C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds. The hydrogensuccinate and hydrogenfumarate salts, C₁₁H₁₇N₂O⁺·C₄H₅O₄ ^- (VIII) and C₁₁H₁₇N₂O⁺·C₄H₃O₃ ^- (IX), respectively, are isomorphous, and both exhibit disorder in the anionic component: N-H⋯O and O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds link the ions into sheets, which are further linked by C-H⋯π(arene) inter-actions. The anion of the hydrogenmaleate salt, C₁₁H₁₇N₂O⁺·C₄H₃O₃ ^- (X), contains a very short and nearly symmetrical O⋯H⋯O hydrogen bond, and N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds link the anions into chains of rings. The ions in the tri-chloro-acetate salt, C₁₁H₁₇N₂O⁺·C₂Cl₃O₂ ^- (XI), are linked into simple chains by N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds. In the hydrated chloranilate salt, 2C₁₁H₁₇N₂O⁺·C₆Cl₂O₄ ^2-·2H₂O (XII), which crystallizes as a non-merohedral twin, the anion lies across a centre of inversion in space group P2₁/n, and a combination of N-H⋯O and O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds generates complex sheets. Comparisons are made with the structures of some related compounds.

Six 1-aroyl-4-(4-meth-oxy-phen-yl)piperazines: similar mol-ecular structures but different patterns of supra-molecular assembly

Six new 1-aroyl-4-(4-meth-oxy-phen-yl)piperazines have been prepared, using coupling reactions between benzoic acids and N-(4-meth-oxy-phen-yl)piperazine. There are no significant hydrogen bonds in the structure of 1-benzoyl-4-(4-meth-oxy-phen-yl)piperazine, C18H20N2O2, (I). The mol-ecules of 1-(2-fluoro-benzo-yl)-4-(4-meth-oxy-phen-yl)piperazine, C18H19FN2O2, (II), are linked by two C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds to form chains of rings, which are linked into sheets by an aromatic π-π stacking inter-action. 1-(2-Chloro-benzo-yl)-4-(4-meth-oxy-phen-yl)piperazine, C18H19ClN2O2, (III), 1-(2-bromo-benzo-yl)-4-(4-meth-oxy-phen-yl)piperazine, C18H19BrN2O2, (IV), and 1-(2-iodo-benzo-yl)-4-(4-meth-oxyphen-yl)piperazine, C18H19IN2O2, (V), are isomorphous, but in (III) the aroyl ring is disordered over two sets of atomic sites having occupancies of 0.942 (2) and 0.058 (2). In each of (III)-(V), a combination of two C-H⋯π(arene) hydrogen bonds links the mol-ecules into sheets. A single O-H⋯O hydrogen bond links the mol-ecules of 1-(2-hy-droxy-benzo-yl)-4-(4-meth-oxy-phen-yl)piperazine, C18H20N2O3, (VI), into simple chains. Comparisons are made with the structures of some related compounds.

Aqueous Solution Processing of Combustible Precursor Compounds into Amorphous Indium Gallium Zinc Oxide (IGZO) Semiconductors for Thin Film Transistor Applications

Combustion synthesis of semiconducting amorphous indium gallium zinc oxide IGZO (In:Ga:Zn, 7:1:1.5) thin films was carried out using urea nitrate precursor compounds of indium(III), gallium(III) and zinc(II). This approach provides further understanding towards the oxide formation process under a moderate temperature regime by employment of well-defined coordination compounds. All precursor compounds were fully characterized by spectroscopic techniques as well as by single crystal structure analysis. Their intrinsic thermal decomposition was studied by a combination of differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermogravimetry coupled with mass spectrometry and infrared spectroscopy (TG-MS/IR). For all precursors a multistep decomposition involving a complex redox-reaction pathway under in situ formation of nitrogen containing molecular species was observed. Controlled thermal conversion of a mixture of the indium, gallium and zinc urea nitrate complexes into ternary amorphous IGZO films could thus be achieved. Thin film transistors (TFTs) were fabricated from a defined compositional mixture of the molecular precursors. The TFT devices exhibited decent charge carrier mobilities of 0.4 and 3.1 cm² /(Vs) after annealing of the deposited films at temperatures as low as 250 and 350 °C, respectively. This approach represents a significant step further towards a low temperature solution processing of semiconducting thin films.

Crystal structure and Hirshfeld surface analysis of two (E)-N'-(para-substituted benzyl-idene) 4-chloro-benzene-sulfono-hydrazides

Two (E)-N'-(p-substituted benzyl-idene)-4-chloro-benzene-sulfono-hydrazides, namely, (E)-4-chloro-N'-(4-chloro-benzyl-idene)benzene-sulfono-hydrazide, C13H10Cl2N2O2S, (I), and (E)-4-chloro-N'-(4-nitro-benzyl-idene)benzene-sulfono-hydrazide, C13H10ClN3O4S, (II), have been synthesized, characterized and their crystal structures studied to explore the effect of the nature of substituents on the structural parameters. Compound (II) crystallized with two independent mol-ecules [(IIA) and IIB)] in the asymmetric unit. In both compounds, the configuration around the C=N bond is E. The mol-ecules are twisted at the S atom with C-S-N-N torsion angles of -62.4 (2)° in (I), and -46.8 (2)° and 56.8 (2)° in the mol-ecules A and B of (II). The 4-chloro-phenyl-sulfonyl and 4-substituted benzyl-idene rings form dihedral angles of 81.0 (1)° in (I), 75.9 (1)° in (IIA) and 73.4 (1)° in (IIB). In the crystal of (I), mol-ecules are linked via pairs of N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds, forming inversion dimers with an R 2 2(8) ring motif. The dimers are linked by C-Cl⋯π inter-actions, forming a three-dimensional structure. In the crystal of (II), mol-ecules are linked by C-H⋯π inter-actions and N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds, forming -A-B-A-B- chains along the c-axis direction. The chains are linked via C-H⋯O and C-H⋯π inter-actions, forming layers parallel to the bc plane. Two-dimensional fingerprint plots show that the most significant contacts contributing to the Hirshfeld surface for (I) are H⋯H contacts (26.6%), followed by Cl⋯H/H⋯Cl (21.3%), O⋯H/H⋯O (15.5%) and Cl⋯C/C⋯Cl (10.7%), while for (II) the O⋯H/H⋯O contacts are dominant, with a contribution of 34.8%, followed by H⋯H (15.2%), C⋯H/H⋯C (14.0%) and Cl⋯H/H⋯Cl (10.0%) contacts.

Crystal structure and Hirshfeld surface analysis of (E)-N'-[4-(piperidin-1-yl)benzyl-idene]aryl-sulfono-hydrazides

The crystal structures and Hirshfeld surface analyses of three Schiff bases, namely (E)-N'-[4-(piperidin-1-yl)benzyl-idene]benzene-sulfono-hydrazide, C18H21N3O2S, (I), (E)-4-methyl-N'-[4-(piperidin-1-yl)benzyl-idene]benzene-sulfono-hydrazide, C19H23N3O2S, (II), and (E)-4-chloro-N'-[4-(piperidin-1-yl)benzyl-idene]benzene-sulfono-hydrazide, C18H20ClN3O2S, (III), derived from aryl-sulfono-hydrazides and 4-(piperidin-4-yl)benzaldehyde have been analysed to investigate the effect of substituents on the structural parameters. All three structures crystallize in monoclinic crystal systems, in the space groups P21/c for (I) and (II), and C2/c for (III). Compound (III) contains two independent mol-ecules in the asymmetric unit and sixteen mol-ecules per unit cell, while (I) and (II) both have one and four mol-ecules, respectively, in their asymmetric units and unit cells. In all cases, the central part of the mol-ecule is twisted at the S atom. In the crystals, the mol-ecules are linked via N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds, forming chains. Two-dimensional fingerprint plots of various inter-atomic contacts show that the major contributions are from H⋯H inter-actions.

Crystal structures and the Hirshfeld surface analysis of (E)-4-nitro-N'-(o-chloro, o- and p-methyl-benzyl-idene)benzene-sulfono-hydrazides

The crystal structures of (E)-N'-(2-chloro-benzyl-idene)-4-nitro-benzene-sulfono-hydrazide, C13H10ClN3O4S (I), (E)-N'-(2-methyl-benzyl-idene)-4-nitro-benzene-sulfono-hydrazide, C14H13N3O4S (II), and (E)-N'-(4-methyl-benzyl-idene)-4-nitro-benzene-sulfono-hydrazide monohydrate, C14H13N3O4S·H2O (III), have been synthesized, characterized and their crystal structures determined to study the effects of the nature and sites of substitutions on the structural parameters and the hydrogen-bonding inter-actions. All three compounds crystallize in the monoclinic crystal system, with space group P21 for (I) and P21/c for (II) and (III). Compound (III) crystallizes as a monohydrate. All three compounds adopt an E configuration around the C=N bond. The mol-ecules are bent at the S atom with C-S-N-N torsion angles of -59.0 (3), 58.0 (2) and -70.2 (1)° in (I), (II) and (III), respectively. The sulfono-hydrazide parts are also non-linear, as is evident from the S-N-N-C torsional angles of 159.3 (3), -164.2 (1) and 152.3 (1)° in (I), (II) and (III), respectively, while the hydrazide parts are almost planar with the N-N=C-C torsion angles being -179.1 (3)° in (I), 176.7 (2)° in (II) and 175.0 (2)° in (III). The 4-nitro-substituted phenyl-sulfonyl and 2/4-substituted benzyl-idene rings are inclined to each other by 81.1 (1)° in (I), 81.4 (1)° in (II) and 74.4 (1)° in (III). The compounds show differences in hydrogen-bonding inter-actions. In the crystal of (I), mol-ecules are linked via N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds, forming C(4) chains along the a-axis direction that are inter-connected by weak C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds, generating layers parallel to the ac plane. In the crystal of (II), the amino H atom shows bifurcated N-H⋯O(O) hydrogen bonding with both O atoms of the nitro group generating C(9) chains along the b-axis direction. The chains are linked by weak C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds, forming a three-dimensional framework. In the crystal of (III), mol-ecules are linked by Ow-H⋯O, N-H⋯Ow and C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds, forming layers lying parallel to the bc plane. The fingerprint plots generated for the three compounds show that for (I) and (II) the O⋯H/H⋯O contacts make the largest contributions, while for the para-substituted compound (III), H⋯H contacts are the major contributors to the Hirshfeld surfaces.

Crystal structure and Hirshfeld surface analysis of (Z)-4-chloro-N'-(4-oxo-thia-zol-idin-2-yl-idene)benzene-sulfono-hydrazide monohydrate

The asymmetric unit of the title thia-zole derivative containing a sulfonyl-hydrazinic moiety, C9H8ClN3O3S2·H2O, consists of two independent mol-ecules and two water mol-ecules. The central parts of the mol-ecules are twisted as both the mol-ecules are bent at both the S and N atoms. In the crystal, N-H⋯N, N-H⋯O, C-H⋯O and O-H⋯O hydrogen-bonding inter-actions connect the mol-ecules, forming layers parallel to the ab plane. Two-dimensional fingerprint plots associated with the Hirshfeld surface show that the largest contributions to the crystal packing come from O⋯H/H⋯O (32.9%) and H⋯H (22.6%) inter-actions.
