Abstract
Objective: To explore the relationship between the triglyceride glucose (TyG) index and the risk of developing hypertension among rural Chinese adults. Methods: A prospective cohort study was conducted from 2007 to 2008, involving 20 194 adults selected through random cluster sampling from a rural community in Luoyang City, Henan Province. Follow-ups were carried out in 2013-2014 and 2018-2020. After excluding participants with hypertension at baseline, those with missing TyG index data, individuals who passed away during follow-up, and those with incomplete hypertension status at the second visit, 9 802 participants were included in the analysis. Baseline and follow-up assessments included questionnaire interviews, physical measurements (including blood pressure), and blood sample collection for fasting lipid and glucose levels. Participants were divided into four groups according to TyG index quartiles, and a modified Poisson regression model was utilized to assess the association between TyG index quartiles and hypertension risk. Results: The study cohort comprised 9 802 participants with a median age of 48 (39, 57) years, including 3 803 males (38.80%). Participants were distributed across TyG index quartiles as follows: TyG<8.2 group (2 224 individuals), TyG 8.2-8.5 group (2 653 individuals), TyG 8.6-8.9 (2 441 individuals), and TyG≥9.0 (2 484 individuals). Over a follow-up period of (11.1±1.3) years, 3 378 subjects developed hypertension, resulting in a cumulative incidence of 34.46% (3 378/9 802). The risk of hypertension increased with higher TyG index quartiles (Ptrend<0.05). Compared to the TyG<8.2, the TyG 8.2-8.5 (RR=1.11, 95%CI 1.01-1.22, P=0.023), TyG 8.6-8.9 (RR=1.16, 95%CI 1.06-1.27, P=0.023), and TyG≥9.0 (RR=1.20, 95%CI 1.10-1.31, P=0.023) exhibited increased hypertension risk after adjusting for age, gender, educational level, and other potential confounders. Subgroup analyses based on gender and age at baseline yielded results consistent with the main analysis. Conclusions: The TyG index is positively correlated with the risk of developing hypertension in the rural adult population.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the role of the Abdominal Aortic Calcification-8 (AAC-8) scoring system in predicting restenosis or occlusion of lower extremity arteries after dilatation and angioplasty with drug-coated balloon (DCB). Methods: In this retrospective study, 62 patients who underwent dilatation and angioplasty with DCB for lower limb atherosclerotic obliterans (ASO) were enrolled from September 2018 to June 2022 in Nanjing Drum Tower Hospital Affiliated to Nanjing University Medical School. Among them who aged (73.9±11.3) years, 37 were males and 25 were females. Patients were divided into two groups according to the condition of the lower extremity arteries after dilatation and angioplasty with DCB: recurrence group (n=26) and patency group (n=36). Logistic regression was used to analyze the factors associated with restenosis or occlusion of lower extremity arteries after dilatation and angioplasty with DCB. The predictive value of the AAC-8 score for restenosis or occlusion of the lower extremity arteries after dilatation and angioplasty with DCB was analyzed using the receiver operating characteristic curves (ROC curves). Results: The postoperative follow-up was 16.30 (10.97, 24.10) months in the patency group and 9.03 (6.98, 15.31) months in the recurrence group. The results of multifactorial logistic regression analysis showed that an elevated AAC-8 score (OR=1.388, 95%CI: 1.067-1.806, P=0.015) was an associated factor of restenosis or occlusion of the lower extremity arteries after dilatation and angioplasty with DCB. The ROC curve analysis showed that the area under the curve (AUC) of the AAC-8 score for predicting restenosis or occlusion of the lower extremity arteries after dilatation and angioplasty with DCB was 0.687 (95%CI: 0.550-0.824, P=0.013), with a cut-off value of 5.5 points, a sensitivity of 65.4% and a specificity of 69.5%. Conclusions: Elevated AAC-8 score is associated with restenosis or occlusion of the lower extremity arteries after dilatation and angioplasty with DCB. When the cut-off value is 5.5, the AAC-8 score predicts restenosis or occlusion of the lower extremity arteries after DCB dilation and angioplasty with a sensitivity of 65.4% and a specificity of 69.5%.

Abstract
Circular RNA (circRNA) influences on the pathological process of osteoarthritis (OA) and may be a potential marker for disease diagnosis. The study was to scrutinize the association of circ_0045474 with OA. Clinical samples of OA patients were collected, and 12 circRNAs derived from KPNA2 gene were examined. CHON-001 cells were stimulated with IL-1β to construct an OA chondrocyte model. miR-485-3p, transcription factor 4 (TCF4) and circ_0045474, type II procollagen (COL2A1), and human collagenase-3 (MMP13) were tested. Furthermore, cell activities were analyzed. The relationship between miR-485-3p, TCF4, and circ_0045474 was determined. The role of circ_0045474 in vivo was further confirmed by constructing an OA mouse model by anterior cruciate ligament transection. circ_0045474 expression was elevated in OA patients. Suppressing circ_0045474 restrained IL-1β-stimulated extracellular matrix degradation, inflammatory cytokine secretion, and chondrocyte apoptosis. Circ_0045474 competitively combined with miR-485-3p, while TCF4 was the target of miR-485-3p. Circ_0045474 modulated IL-1β-stimulated extracellular matrix degradation, inflammatory cytokine secretion, and chondrocyte apoptosis via miR-485-3p/TCF4 axis. Suppressing circ 0045474 was effective to alleviate OA in mice. Silenced circ_0045474 suppresses OA progression in vitro and vivo via miR-485-3p/TCF4 axis. In short, circ_0045474 can be considered a novel therapeutic target for OA.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the chronic respiratory symptoms and pulmonary function of adult residents in 3 towns of Hongtong County, Shanxi Province, and to explore their risk factors. Methods: The investigation of chronic respiratory symptoms and lung function status of adult residents in Hongdong County is based on the regional population of the entire county in Hongdong County. The project was initiated by the Science and Technology Department of Linfen City and coordinated by the Hongdong County Government. The investigation will be conducted in 3 townships in Hongdong County, Linfen City, Shanxi Province from April to November 2021: Demographic characteristics, respiratory symptoms, smoking dust exposure and other personal history were collected through questionnaires. Physical examination, routine blood tests and lung function tests were also performed on each individual. SPSS 22.0 software was used to conduct t test, χ2 test, ANOVA or Kruskal-Wallis test for statistical analysis of the collected information. Results: 10 945 subjects aged 18-102 years were included in the analysis, of whom 3 754 (34.3%) were male, 1 222 (11.2%) had a history of dust exposure, 7 164 (65.5%) had used straw and firewood as cooking fuel, and 3 296 (30.1%) had a history of smoking. Among the participants, 394 (3.6%), 339 (3.1%), and 1 543 (14.1%) had respiratory symptoms such as chronic cough, sputum, and dyspnea. Statistics showed that the population with chronic respiratory symptoms was more elderly and had a smoking history, and the incidence of chronic respiratory symptoms was higher in those who smoked more than 40 packs a year (all P<0.05). Men with a history of dust exposure were more likely to suffer from chronic cough and expectoration, while emaciation and biofuel use for more than 40 years were more likely to suffer from chronic expectoration and dyspnea (all P<0.05). The median values of forced expiratory volume in 1 second (FEV1), forced vital capacity (FVC) and FEV1/FVC in 1 second were 2.19 L/s, 3.24 L and 69.16%, respectively. Among them, the lung function of 5 801 (53.0%) respondents was lower than the expected value. The median FEV1/FVC decreased with the increase of age. The FEV1/FVC of people over 40 years old with smoking history was lower, the dust exposure history of people with decreased lung function was more than that of people with normal lung function, and the incidence of chronic expectoration and dyspnea was higher in people with decreased lung function (all P<0.05). The absolute value and ratio of eosinophils in patients with decreased ventilation function over 60 years old were significantly higher than those with normal ventilation function, but the level of body mass index (BMI) was lower (all P<0.05). Conclusion: In Hongdong County, Shanxi Province, grassroots residents have poor medical awareness, low lung function examination rate, chronic respiratory symptoms and lung function decline are associated with more risk factors. Primary medical institutions need to formulate prevention strategies and carry out lung function detection according to the actual situation, focusing on monitoring and follow-up of high-risk groups to achieve early and timely prevention, diagnosis and treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

Abstract
Molar-incisor hypomineralization (MIH) is defined as an enamel mineralization defect caused by systemic factors, which is characterized by demarcated opacities. These opacities are liable to result in brittle hypomineralized enamel breakdown, which expediting the eventual development of cavities, even tooth loss. Early diagnosis and prompt intervention are essential. The MIH scoring system based on the diagnostic criteria of the European Academy of Paediatric Dentistry (EAPD) is internationally recognized. This system is particularly helpful to diagnose and evaluate the MIH, as well as conductive to the performance of epidemiological investigations. This paper gives a presentation on the EAPD judgment criteria and scoring system as well as their applications, based on the current situation of MIH studies and our findings of MIH epidemiological investigation.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the value of T2 map and synthetic T2WI generated by T2 mapping in evaluating the histological type, pathological classification and depth of myometrial invasion of endometrial carcinoma (EC). Methods: Seventy-three patients with pathologically proven EC diagnosed at the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University from December 2019 to December 2021 and 42 healthy volunteers were enrolled in the study. All subjects underwent conventional MRI, diffusion weighted imaging (DWI) and T2 mapping sequence for the pelvic cavity to test the T2 values and the apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) of the focus nidus of the patients and the normal endometrium of the volunteers. The T2 and ADC values of EC vs normal endometrium, and those of different histological types and pathological grades were compared. The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves were constructed to evaluate the diagnostic performance of T2 and ADC values in determining the pathological type and classification of EC. In addition, two radiologists used synthetic T2WI combined with T2 map and conventional T2WI combined with DWI, respectively, to evaluate the depth of myometrial invasion, and compared the imaging results with the results of pathological diagnosis to evaluate the diagnostic efficacy of the two methods in determining the depth of myometrial invasion. Results: The T2 and ADC values of endometrial carcinoma were 85.0 (80.8, 92.5) ms and 0.71 (0.64, 0.77) ×10(-3) mm(2)/s, respectively, which were significantly lower than those of normal endometrium [147.4 (123.4, 176.7) ms and 1.46 (1.26, 1.76)×10(-3) mm(2)/s, respectively; both P<0.05]. The T2 values of endometrioid carcinoma (EA) [84.1 (79.5, 88.7) ms] were significantly lower than those of non-EA [98.8 (92.1, 102.8) ms; P<0.05]. There was no significant difference in ADC values between EA and non-EA (P=0.075). The T2 values of G1, G2 and G3 groups in EA were 89.1 (84.4, 94.4) ms, 83.6 (80.9, 86.2) ms, and 76.5 (71.4, 80.3) ms, respectively. There were significant differences in the T2 values between G1 vs G2, G1 vs G3, and G2 vs G3 groups, respectively (all P<0.017). Significant difference was also found in the ADC values between the G1 and G3 groups (P<0.017). The area under the ROC curve (AUC) of T2 values in distinguishing EA from non-EA was 0.867. The AUC of T2 values, ADC values and their combination in predicting high-grade EA was 0.888, 0.730 and 0.895, respectively. The accuracy of synthetic T2WI+ T2 map and conventional T2WI+ DWI in the diagnosis of deep myometrial invasion was 78.1% and 79.5%, respectively, with no significant difference (P>0.05). Conclusions: T2 mapping has great potential in preoperative evaluation of EC. The quantitative T2 value can be used in the diagnosis, pathological classification and grading of EC. The combination of synthetic T2WI and T2 map may be helpful to determine the depth of myometrial invasion.

Abstract
Objective: To analyze the level of chromosome aberration in lymphocytes of medical radiation workers and its influencing factors. Methods: From July to September 2020, 252 medical workers in a tertiary hospital were selected as the study subjects and 107 preserviceworkers were selected as the control group. The Chromosomal aberrations of peripheral blood lymphocytes were measured using conventional cytogenetic analysis method, and the differences were analyzed. Results: The frequencies of dicentric puls centric ring, total chromosome-type aberrations, and abnormal detection rate in the radiation group were significantly higher than those in the control group (Z=2.59, 3.74, 9.99, P<0.05). There was significant difference in the frequencies of dicentric plus centric ring and total chromosome-type aberrations among different types of work (χ(2)=8.59, 8.17, 11.39, P<0.05), and the frequencies of dicentric plus centric ring were significantly higher in the interventional radiology group than those in diagnostic radiology (χ(2)=2.90, P<0.05), While the rates of acentric fragment and total chromosome-type aberrations were significantly higher in the nuclear medicine group than those in diagnostic radiology (χ(2)=2.81, 3.19, P<0.05). The difference in the abnormal detection rate of chromosome aberrations between different types of work was statistically significant (P<0.05), and the rate in the interventional radiology group was significantly higher than that in the diagnostic radiology group (χ(2)=7.66, P<0.05). There was no significant difference in chromosome aberration level and abnormal detection rate among different working ages (P>0.05). Poisson regression analysis indicated that the type of work is a risk factor for chromosomal aberration [IRR=2.31 (nuclear medicine group), 1.66 (Radiation therapy), and 1.78 (interventional group) ; P<0.05]. Conclusion: Ionizing radiation causes certain radiation damage to medical radiology workers, and the frequencies of chromosome aberration in the radiation workers of nuclear medicine and interventional radiology groups are relatively high, so radiation protection should be strengthened to ensure the health of relevant workers.

Abstract
Enterovirus G (EV-G) is prevalent in pig populations worldwide, and a total of 20 genotypes (G1 to G20) have been confirmed. Recently, recombinant EV-Gs carrying the papain-like cysteine protease (PLCP) gene of porcine torovirus have been isolated or detected, while their pathogenicity is poorly understood. In this study, an EV-G17-PLCP strain, 'EV-G/YN23/2022', was isolated from the feces of pigs with diarrhea, and the virus replicated robustly in numerous cell lines. The isolate showed the highest complete genome nucleotide (87.5%) and polyprotein amino acid (96.6%) identity in relation to the G17 strain 'IShi-Ya4' (LC549655), and a possible recombination event was detected at the 708 and 3383 positions in the EV-G/YN23/2022 genome. EV-G/YN23/2022 was nonlethal to piglets, but mild diarrhea, transient fever, typical skin lesions, and weight gain deceleration were observed. The virus replicated efficiently in multiple organs, and the pathological lesions were mainly located in the small intestine. All the challenged piglets showed seroconversion for EV-G/YN23/2022 at 6 to 9 days post-inoculation (dpi), and the neutralization antibody peaked at 15 dpi. The mRNA expression levels of IL-6, IL-18, IFN-α, IFN-β, and ISG-15 in the peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) were significantly up-regulated during viral infection. This is the first documentation of the isolation and pathogenicity evaluation of the EV-G17-PLCP strain in China. The results may advance our understanding of the evolution characteristics and pathogenesis of EV-G-PLCP.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the role of platelet derived growth factor receptor alpha (PDGFRα) on bidirectional differentiation of glioma-associated oncogene homolog 1-positive mesenchymal stem cells (Gli1+-MSC). Methods: Breeding double reporter transgenic mice ROSAmT/mG/Gli1-CreERt2/PDGFRαfl (Experimental group) and ROSAmT/mG/Gli1-CreERt2 (Control group), 20 mice in each of the two groups at four weeks of age were selected, MSC were isolated from the mouse aortic epithelium. After tamoxifen inducement, the two groups of Gli1+-MSC were screened by green fluorescent protein (GFP) labeling and flow cytometry sorting. PDGFRα was conditionally knocked out in the experimental group, and the control group Gli1+-MSC expressed PDGFRα normally. The two groups of Gli1+-MSC were subjected to adipogenic induction and fibrogenic induction, the Western blotting was performed to detect PDGFRα, adipocyte markers [perilipin and CCAAT/enhancer binding protein alpha (C/EBPα)] and fibrogenic markers [alpha smooth muscle actin (α-SMA) and fibroblast-specific protein 1 (FSP-1)] and semi-quantitative analysis was performed. The degree of cellular adipose differentiation after bidirectional induction of Gli1+-MSC in both groups was observed by oil red O staining and analyzed semi-quantitatively. Results: After tamoxifen induction, Gli1+-MSC could be accurately isolated from flow cytometry by GFP labeling. Via adipogenic differentiation, the expression of PDGFRα in the experimental group (0.017±0.002) was significantly lower than that in the control group (0.184±0.012) (t=25.48,P=0.002). The protein expressions of perilipin (3.138±0.414) and C/EBPα (3.565±0.289) were significantly higher than those in the control group (2.312±0.218 and 2.179±0.103, respectively) (t=6.21,P=0.025;t=6.69,P=0.022). Thus, the knock-out of PDGFRα enhanced the adipogenic differentiation ability of Gli1+-MSC. After fibrogenesis induction, the protein expressions of PDGFRα, α-SMA and FSP-1 in the experimental group (0.030±0.001, 0.932±0.177 and 0.276±0.020, respectively) were significantly lower than those in the control group (0.439±0.006, 1.352±0.170 and 0.835±0.097, respectively) (t=149.40, P<0.001; t=66.38,P<0.001; t=11.41,P<0.08). This suggested that the knock-out of PDGFRα significantly inhibited Gli1+-MSC differentiation toward fibroblasts. After bidirectional induction, significantly less adipocyte formation was seen in the control group and more in the experimental group. Quantitative analysis showed that the amount of oil red O staining in the experimental group (0.461±0.042) was significantly higher than that in the control group (0.017±0.007) after bidirectional induction (t=23.20, P<0.01). Conclusions: PDGFRα plays an important role in the regulation of bidirectional differentiation of vascular adventitial Gli1+-MSC.

Abstract
Objective: To explore the surgical methods and effects of transoral endoscopic resection of benign tumors in parapharyngeal space via medial pterygomandibular raphe approach. Methods: The clinical data of 23 patients who underwent resection of benign tumors in parapharyngeal space by endoscopic medial pterygomandibular raphe approach from January 2016 to July 2020 in the Department of Otorhinolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery, the Affiliated Hospital of Qingdao University were analyzed retrospectively. There were 14 males and 9 females with a median age of 43 years. The tumors were located in the anterior space of the styloid process in 13 cases and in the posterior space in 10 cases. The smallest tumor volume was 7.3 ml and the largest was 80.2 ml. The preoperative imaging features, the characteristics and risks of this approach in the operation were analyzed, and the feasible mode of operation was explored. Results: All patients completed the operation successfully. The intraoperative blood loss was 20 to 50 ml, with an average of 28.3 ml. The operation time was 40 to 110 min, with an average of 75.4 min. The incision length was 2 to 4 cm, with an average of 3.0 cm. The postoperative pain score was 2 to 4, with an average of 3.2. The postoperative hospital stay was 4 to 9 d, with an average of 6.7 d. Postoperative pathological diagnosis included pleomorphic adenoma (n=12), neurilemmoma (n=10) and basal cell adenoma (n=1). The patients were followed up for 6 to 60 months. There was no postoperative complication such as infection or serious bleeding, and there was no tumor recurrence after operation. Conclusion: Endoscopic resection of benign tumor in parapharyngeal space via medial pterygomandibular raphe approach is a safe, effective, and minimally invasive surgical method for the treatment of tumors in parapharyngeal space.

Abstract
Dendrobium viroid (DVd) was first reported in China in 2020, and it is the only viroid known to infect Orchidaceae family plants. In this study, we developed a simple reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) method for the rapid detection of DVd in Dendrobium plants. When extracting the sap template from the leaves, they are first clamped between two layers of plastic film, and the sap is pressed out and collected with a pipette. Using this sap, DVd was detected by dot-blot and RT-PCR methods and, the expected amplicons were confirmed by sequencing analysis. The batch analysis of field samples revealed that this method can be used to detect DVd rapidly. The detection method also reduces cross-contamination between different samples and minimizes false positives. Thus, this sap-direct RT-PCR method allows effective and rapid DVd detection in the study of Orchidaceae plants.

Abstract
Objective: To explore the relationship between the total cerebral small vessel disease (CSVD) score and retinal vessel diameters in patients with mild stroke. Methods: The patients with mild stroke who were hospitalized in the Second People's Hospital of Changzhou, Nanjing Medical University from March to December 2019 were continuously collected (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale score≤3 points). All patients completed the head magnetic resonance imaging and retinal fundus photography examination, and then the retinal arteriovenous diameter was measured semi-automatically based on the pictures. According to the total CSVD score (0-4 points), the patients were divided into 5 groups. The baseline characteristics of the patients were compared. Moreover, the correlation of total CSVD with retinal blood vessel diameters were analyzed by spearman and linear regression. Results: A total of 206 patients were enrolled. There were 69, 51, 41, 30, and 15 patients with 0, 1, 2, 3, and 4 points, respectively. In CSVD subgroups, there were significant differences in age, duration of hypertension and diabetes (all P<0.05). The central retinal artery equivalent (CRAE), (CSVD scores 0-4 were (126±12) μm, (118±11) μm, (108±11) μm, (99±8) μm, (90±7) μm, P<0.001) and arteriole-to-venule ratio (AVR) (CSVD scores 0-4 were 0.65±0.05, 0.60±0.04, 0.56±0.04, 0.49±0.03, 0.44±0.02, P<0.001) were different in CSVD subgroups. With the increase of CSVD score, the diameter of artery and AVR became smaller. The total CSVD was significantly correlated with AVR by Spearman correlation analysis (r= 0.818, P<0.001). By constructing a linear regression equation model, the coefficient of determination of the total CSVD score (R2=0.694) was higher than that of lacunes, white matter hyperintensities, cerebral microbleeds and enlarged perivascular space. After adjusting for age, course of hypertension and diabetes, and different types of CSVD, further multiple linear regression analysis revealed that the total CSVD score was still an independent related factor of AVR (β=-0.039, P<0.001, 95%CI=-0.051--0.028). Conclusions: Total CSVD score is negatively correlated with retinal artery diameters and AVR. Additionally, the total CSVD score can better reflect the degree of cerebral microvascular lesions than single type CSVD.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Gastric cancer (GC) with bone metastasis is rare, and rib metastasis is even less common. The clinical prognosis of GC with bone metastasis is poor given the lack of an effective treatment.
CASE SUMMARY A 70 year old man was referred to Shaoxing People’s Hospital with left chest pain and slight dyspnea. Chest computed tomography (CT) revealed a metastatic lesion in the left 3rd rib. Esophagogastroduodenoscopy revealed several ulcers in the angle and antrum of the stomach, and tumor biomarkers including CEA and CA-199 were clearly increased. In addition, lymph node metastasis in the lesser curvature of the stomach was identified by positron emission tomography/CT scanning. Further pathological examination confirmed metastatic adenocarcinoma in the rib and medium-low differentiated adenocarcinoma in the gastric space. The patient had GC with rib metastasis, and was clinically staged as T3NxM1 (IVB). Based on multidisciplinary team opinions, the patient received five courses of chemotherapy (CAPOX plus aptinib), and then underwent rib resection and laparoscopic radical distal gastrectomy. The patient started four courses of chemotherapy after surgery, and then capecitabine and aptinib were administered orally for 3 mo. Follow-up was performed on an outpatient basis using abdominal/chest CT and tumor biomarkers. The patient exhibited an overall survival greater than 2 years, and the disease-free survival was approximately 18 mo. His adverse events were tolerable.
CONCLUSION The incidence of GC with rib metastases is extremely low, and patients can obtain more benefits from individualized treatment formulated by multidisciplinary team. Chemotherapy plus surgery might represent an alternative option for GC with rib metastasis.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To study the expression level of cAMP response element-binding protein (CREB) in children with recurrent wheezing under three years of age and its effect on the expression of the serum orosomucoid 1-like protein 3 (ORMDL3) gene. METHODS Thirty-six children with recurrent wheezing under three years of age who visited the hospital from June 2017 to June 2019 were selected as the recurrent wheezing group. Twenty-four healthy children from physical examination were selected as the control group. The CREB expression level in peripheral blood was measured by quantitative real-time PCR. Human bronchial epithelial cells (BEAS-2B) were cultured, and dual-luciferase reporter assay and quantitative real-time PCR were used to investigate the effects of overexpression and siRNA interference of CREB on the promoter activity and mRNA expression of the ORMDL3 gene in the BEAS-2B cells. RESULTS The expression level of CREB in the recurrent wheezing group was significantly higher than that in the control group (P<0.001). In BEAS-2B cells, overexpression of CREB significantly up-regulated the promoter activity and mRNA expression of the ORMDL3 gene (P<0.05), while siRNA interference of CREB significantly reduced the promoter activity and mRNA expression of the ORMDL3 gene (P<0.05). CONCLUSIONS The expression of CREB is increased in children with recurrent wheezing, and CREB may be involved in the pathogenesis of recurrent wheezing by regulating expression of the ORMDL3 gene.

Abstract
From November to December of 2018, twenty 65-year-old or older women patients with knee osteoarthritis were recruited from the Department of Physical Therapy, the First Affiliated Hospital of Anhui Medical University. Meanwhile, twenty healthy 65-year-old or older women were recruited from the local community. The results showed that the knee contact angle of the patient group was more flexed (P=0.040), and the minimum angle of the knee joint increased (P=0.008) during the stance period compared to the healthy group. However, there was no significant difference in the maximum contact angle between the angle of hip and ankle joints. In addition, the tibialis anterior muscle of the patients was significantly smaller than the healthy group (P=0.023). Therefore, knee osteoarthritis could change the gait and muscle activity of older women, especially the knee joint.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Selection of approach for subaxial cervical fracture-dislocation (SCFD) is controversial. The questions of whether a posterior ligamentous structure (PLS) can be functionally healed in patients with SCFD and how long this healing process takes are critical in these patients. METHODS This study retrospectively enrolled 394 patients with SCFD who underwent anterior decompression, reduction, and fusion between January 2002 and December 2017. The definition of functional healing of PLS was based on evaluations of clinical function and radiographic stability of PLS. RESULTS Follow-up was available for 354 patients (89.8%). The PLS of 339 cases was functionally healed at the first follow-up interval without any posterior surgical intervention. No hardware failure or progressive cervical kyphosis was observed at further follow-up. At 12 months postoperatively, interbody fusion was satisfactory. However, the other 15 patients experienced nonhealing PLS at 8 weeks postoperatively and developed cervical deformity at further follow-up. Five patients refused revision surgery; the other 10 patients obtained solid fusion after revision surgeries. CONCLUSIONS Among 354 patients with SCFD and treated by single anterior reduction and fixation, simple PLS injury without any bony instability at the posterior column of the cervical spine can be functionally healed in 95.8% of patients by external fixation for 8 weeks. Whether this finding is applicable to various types of SCFD should be verified in further prospective studies with larger samples.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the effect of global end-diastolic volume index (GEDI)-guided fluid resuscitation on the prognosis of patients with chronic heart failure and septic shock. Methods: This study was a prospective randomized controlled study. Consecutive eligible patients were divided into 2 groups according to the random number table method: control group (n=21) and experimental group (n=20). On the basis of routine treatment, patients in the control group received early goal-directed therapy until the central venous pressure (CVP) reaching 8-12 mmHg (1 mmHg=0.133 kPa), mean arterial pressure reaching over 65 mmHg, urine volume reaching over 0.5 ml·kg(-1)·h(-1), and central venous oxygen saturation reaching more than 70%. On the basis of routine treatment, patients in the experimental group were monitored continuously on cardiac output with pulse indication and fluid resuscitation guided by volume index GEDI. The GEDI should be maintained on the range of 680-800 ml/m(2). The remaining resuscitation goals were the same as control group. General clinical data of the two groups were collected at admission. Negative fluid balance onset time, duration of mechanical ventilation, ICU mortality and 28-day mortality were compared between the two groups. The outcomes were recorded as listed: start time of negative fluid balance, duration of mechanical ventilation, mortality in ICU and 28-day mortality. Results: There was no significant difference in age, sex, weight, APACHE Ⅱ score, SOFA score and NYHA functional class score between the two groups (all P>0.05). The negative liquid balance onset time in the control group was 3.5 (2.5, 4.0) days, which was significantly longer than that in the experimental group (2.6 (2.0, 3.0) days,U=115.0, P=0.012). The duration of mechanical ventilation was 355 (118, 552) hours in the control group, which was significantly longer than that in the experimental group (132 (36.75, 233.3) hours, U=130, P=0.038). The ICU mortality was 38.1% (8/21) in the control group, tended to be higher than that in the experimental group (20.0%(4/20), χ(2)=1.620, P=0.203). The 28-day mortality was 42.9% (9/21) in the control group, similar as in the experimental group (25.0%(5/20), χ(2)=1.482,P=0.477). Conclusion: Fluid resuscitation guided by volume index (GEDI) may improve the prognosis of patients with chronic heart failure complicated with septic shock.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the risk factors of systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS) in patients undergoing flexible ureteroscopic lithotripsy based on enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS). Methods: The clinical data of 243 kidney stone cases who underwent flexible ureteroscopic lithotripsy based on ERAS in the First Affiliated Hospital of Wannan Medical College from January 2016 to December 2017 were analyzed retrospectively. The cases were divided into two groups according to whether they had SIRS after surgery: SIRS group (26 cases) and non-SIRS group (217 cases). The age, gender, laterality of kidney stone, history of previous kidney stone surgery, degree of hydronephrosis, multiple kidney stones, length of operation time, white blood cell count of preoperative urine routine, result of preoperative urine culture, use of preoperative antibiotics, diabetes and other chronic diseases in the groups were collected and analyzed. Results: SIRS occurred in 26 cases in this study, which accounted for 10.7% (26/243). Multivariate analysis found that, moderate and severe hydronephrosis (OR=6.711, P=0.008), stone burden ≥2 cm (OR=10.353, P<0.001), length of operation time ≥ 60 min (OR=5.583, P=0.011), white blood cell count of preoperative urine routine ≥25×10(6)/L (OR=6.195, P=0.005), positive preoperative urine culture (OR=4.216, P=0.011), diabetes and other chronic diseases (OR=4.532, P=0.006) were the independent risk factors for postoperative SIRS (P<0.05). Conclusions: The occurrence of SIRS after flexible ureteroscopic lithotripsy based on ERAS is closely correlated with hydronephrosis, stone burden, length of operation time, white blood cell count of preoperative urine routine, positive preoperative urine culture, diabetes and other chronic diseases.

Abstract
The dissipation of triforine in the immature and mature fruit periods was investigated under field conditions. Residue levels of triforine in watermelon were determined by gas chromatography with an electron capture detector (GC-ECD). The decline curves of triforine residues in the watermelon corresponded with first-order kinetics. The half-lives of triforine in Dark Belle and Shiny Boy were 2.10-2.57 days and 2.31-2.67 days respectively. Meanwhile, the half-lives of triforine in the immature and mature fruit periods were 1.69-2.04 days and 2.89-3.85 days, respectively. In the terminal residue experiment, the terminal residues of triforine in the watermelon flesh and peel were below 0.01 mg/kg to 0.05 mg/kg and 0.03 mg/kg to 0.36 mg/kg, respectively. The dissipation rates of triforine varied in different cultivars of watermelon, and even in the same cultivar, the half-lives of triforine significantly varied in the different fruit periods. Although triforine is a fungicide within the suction, the terminal residues in the peel and flesh were very significant.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the diagnostic value of whole liver CT perfusion imaging in the quantitative evaluation of hemodynamic changes before and after transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE). Methods: Twenty-six patients with hepatocellular carcinoma underwent TACE therapies were recruited. Whole -liver computed tomographic perfusion imaging (CTPI) was performed 2~3 days before TACE and 1 month after TACE. We measured the following perfusion parameters: hepatic arterial perfusion (HAP), portal venous perfusion (PVP), total liver perfusion (TLP), hepatic arterial perfusion index (HAPI), and time-to-peak (TTP).The F-test, t-test and Rank sum test were used for statistical analysis. Results: A total of 34 HCC lesions were detected. According to the deposition of lipiodol after TACE, they were divided into a lipiodol dense group (21) and a lipiodol light group (13). The length of hepatocellular carcinoma lesions after TACE showed a decreasing trend compared with preoperative TACE. The lesions in the lipiodol dense group had smaller lesions than those in the lipiodol light group. The preoperative and postoperative longitudinal diameters were (3.12 ± 0.58) cm vs. (1.93 ± 0.79) cm, (2.98 ± 2.01) cm vs. (2.58 ± 2.00) cm, the differences were statistically significant (t = 15.1, 8.65, P < 0.05). The preoperative HAP and HPI of the lipiodol dense group were the highest, and the peritumoral within 1cm was higher than that of the surrounding liver parenchyma. The PVP, TLP, and TTP were highest in the surrounding of liver parenchyma, and 1 cm higher than the tumor area in the background. The corresponding perfusion parameters were statistically significant (P < 0.05); HAP and HPI were 1 cm higher than the surrounding liver parenchyma. After the operation, PVP, TLP and TTP were lower than the background liver parenchyma, the difference was statistically significant (P < 0.05); HAP and HPI decreased by 1 cm after the operation, and the PVP, TLP, and TTP increased. There was no significant difference after operation in the blood perfusion of background liver parenchyma (P ˃ 0.05). The HAP and HPI decreased, and the PVP and TTP increased in the lipiodol light group after operation (P < 0.05). There was no significant difference between the other two regions (P ˃ 0.05). Conclusion: There was no blood perfusion in the lipiodol deposition area after TACE. The perfusion volume of hepatic artery in the peritumoral 1 cm and lipiodol light group decreased and the portal venous perfusion increased. CTPI can quantitatively evaluate blood perfusion state, which is of great significance for the determination of treatment plans before TACE treatment to assume the postoperative therapeutic effect in liver cancer.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the diagnostic value of RESOLVE DWI in the evaluation of benign and malignant epithelial tumors of parotid gland. Methods: A total of 106 patients in the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University with epithelial tumors of parotid gland confirmed by pathology from July 2015 to October 2017 were retrospectively analyzed. All patients underwent preoperative routine MRI and RESOLVE DWI, the ADC average values were calculated, t test were used to compare the ADC values of benign and malignant epithelial tumors of parotid gland. Diagnostic performance of ADC value was compared using receiver operating characteristic (ROC)curves. Results: All lesions were solitary, including 69 benign epithelial tumors and 37 malignant epithelial tumors. The mean ADC values of pleomorphic adenoma and basal cell adenoma, adenolymphoma and malignant epithelial tumors were (1.47±0.16)×10(-3) mm(2)/s, (0.83±0.19)×10(-3) mm(2)/s and(1.14±0.14)×10(-3) mm(2)/s, the mean ADC value of adenolymphoma lower than the rest of the two groups, there were statistically significant differences among them (P<0.05). Using 0.94×10(-3) mm(2)/s≤ADC value≤1.28×10(-3)mm(2)/s as the critical value for diagnosing malignant epithelial tumors of parotid gland and comparing with pathological results, the result obtained had a sensitivity of 81.1%, specificity of 88.9%. ADC value had high correlations compared with pathological results, kappa value was 0.600. Conclusion: RESOLVE DWI can be applied in differential diagnosis between benign and malignant epithelial tumors of parotid gland.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the influence of intravenous thrombolysis on prognosis of acute ischemic stroke in patients with moderate to severe leukoaraiosis and to analyze influencing factors of the clinical prognosis. Methods: We consecutively included acute ischemic stroke patients with middle cerebral artery occlusion (n=101) from Department of Neurology or Emergency, and patients were divided into two groups according to whether on intravenous thrombolysis therapy (IVT) or not. The Fugl-Meyer scale score (FMS) was used to assess motor function outcome and the National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) score was used to assess neurologic function. Clinical data were obtained and compared between the two groups. Patients were followed up for 90 days, the primary clinical endpoint events included stroke recurrence and death, and the key secondary endpoint events included other vascular events after IVT. Multivariate linear regression analysis was used to analyze the relevant factors influencing the motor function 90 days later. Results: Among the 101 enrolled patients, 37 (36.6%) were classified as IVT group and 64 (63.4%) as no IVT group. In IVT group, hemorrhagic transformation and symptomatic intracranial hemorrhage were observed in 32.4% (12/37) and 13.5% (5/37) of the patients, which were higher than those in the no IVT group (9.4% (6/64) and 1.6% (1/64) , respectively) (χ(2)=8.511, P=0.004; χ(2)=5.993, P=0.014). And there was no significant difference between the two groups in NIHSS score and FMS score at any time point. In addition, there was no significant increase in 90-day FMS score in the two groups compared with the FMS score on admission (83±9 vs 80±12; 86±8 vs 80±10). After followed up for 90 days, the primary clinical endpoints were obtained in 32 patients (32/101; 31.9%), including 18 cases of stroke recurrence (18/101; 17.8%) and 14 cases of death (14/101; 13.9%). No significant difference was found in primary clinical endpoints between the two groups. Multivariate linear regression analysis revealed that symptomatic intracranial hemorrhage (t=-2.318; P=0.023), baseline NIHSS score (t=-4.263; P=0.000), recurrent stroke (t=-9.114; P=0.000) and hemorrhage transformation (t=-2.121; P=0.037) were risk factors of poor 90-day motor function recovery, but not application of intravenous thrombolysis therapy (t=0.328; P=0.744). Conclusions: Acute ischemic stroke patients with moderate to severe LA have higher risk of hemorrhagic transformation and symptomatic intracranial hemorrhage after intravenous thrombolysis. However, there is no association of intravenous thrombolysis therapy with motor function recovery.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the different pattern of neck lymph node metastasis, the choice of surgical methods and prognosis in early tongue squamous cell carcinoma. Methods: A total of 157 patients with early oral tongue squamous cell carcinoma were included in this study. Statistical analysis was performed to identify the pattern of lymph node metastasis, to determine the best surgical procedure and to analyze the prognosis. Results: The occurrence of cervical lymph node metastasis rate was 31%(48/157). Neck lymphatic metastasis was significantly related to tumor size (P=0.026) and histology differentiation type (P=0.022). The rate of metastasis was highest in level Ⅱ [33% (16/48)]. In level Ⅳ, the incidence of lymph node metastasis was 5%(7/157), and there was no skip metastases. The possibility of level Ⅳ metastasis was higher, when level Ⅱ (P=0.000) or Ⅲ (P=0.000) involved. The differentiation tumor recurrence, neck lymphatic metastasis and adjuvant radiotherapy were prognostic factors (P<0.05). Multivariate analyses revealed histology differentiation type, neck lymphatic metastases and adjuvant radiotherapy were the independent prognostic factors. Conclusions: Neck lymphatic metastasis rate is high in early tongue squamous cell carcinoma, simultaneous glossectomy and neck dissection should be performed. Level Ⅳ metastasis rate is extremely low, so supraomohyoid neck dissection is sufficient for most of the time. The histology differentiation type, neck lymphatic metastasis and adjuvant radiotherapy are independent prognostic factors.

Abstract
The single application of 0.5 % clothianidin granules, a novel formulation, was used to control pests in vegetables under a high dose. In this article, residues of clothianidin in cabbage and soil samples under field conditions from Guangzhou, Nanning, and Qianjiang were determined by HPLC. The terminal residues of clothianidin in cabbage were less than the limit of detection (<LOD) at pre-harvest intervals of 30 days, and these values were lower than the maximum residue limit of 0.2 mg kg-1 in cabbage set by the Codex Alimentarius Commission. To test on the influence of the pesticide fertilizers' effect on clothianidin residual, clothianidin granules and fertilizers of chicken manure, urea, and organic fertilizer were mixed into different pesticide fertilizers through their normal field using dosage and evaluate residual influence of clothianidin in different formula. After analysis of variance of the effect factors, the effect of different pesticide types on half-life was not significant, but the effect of sample types was significant. Clothianidin granules and pesticide fertilizers could be safely applied in cabbage under a single high-dose administration.

Abstract
Background: In vitro experiments have revealed that toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) pathway is involved in the progression of immunoglobulin A nephropathy (IgAN) by induction of proinflammatory cytokines. Evidence showed that, in other disease models, peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-γ (PPAR-γ) agonists have been shown to exert anti-inflammatory effects through suppression of the expression and activity of TLR4. However, the interaction between PPAR-γ and TLR4 in IgAN has not been fully studied both in vitro and in vivo. In this study, we explored whether TLR4 pathway attributed to the progression of IgAN in experimental rats. Methods: Bovine gamma globulin was used to establish IgAN model. Fifty-four Lewis rats were randomly divided into six groups: ControlTAK242, IgANTAK242, toll-like receptor 4 inhibitor (TAK242) groups (rats were administrated with TLR4 inhibitor, TAK242) and ControlPio, IgANPio, Pio groups (rats were administrated with PPAR-γ agonist, pioglitazone). Urinary albumin-to-creatinine ratio (ACR), serum creatinine, and blood urea nitrogen were detected by automatic biochemical analyzer. Renal histopathological changes were observed after hematoxylin-eosin staining, and the IgA deposition in glomeruli was measured by immunofluorescence staining. Real-time polymerase chain reaction and Western blotting were used to detect TLR4 and interleukin-1 beta (IL-1β) message ribonucleic acid (mRNA) and protein expression in renal tissues. Results were presented as mean ± standard deviation. Differences between groups were analyzed by one-way analysis of variance. Results: Compared to normal rats, experimental rats showed higher ACR (4.45 ± 1.33 mg/mmol vs. 2.89 ± 0.96 mg/mmol, P < 0.05), obvious IgA deposition with mesangial hypercellularity, hyperplasia of mesangial matrix accompanied by increased serum IL-1β (48.28 ± 13.49 pg/ml vs. 35.56 ± 7.41pg/ml, P < 0.05), and renal expression of IL-1β and TLR4. The biochemical parameters and renal pathological injury were relieved in both TAK242 group and Pio group. The expressions of renal tissue TLR4, IL-1β, and serum IL-1β were decreased in rats treated with TAK242, and the expression of TLR4 mRNA and protein was significantly reduced in Pio group compared to IgANPio group (1.22 ± 0.28 vs. 1.72 ± 0.45, P < 0.01, and 0.12 ± 0.03 vs. 0.21 ± 0.05, P < 0.01). Conclusions: Our study proves that inflammation mediated by TLR4 signaling pathway is involved in the progression of IgAN in rat models. Moreover, pioglitazone can inhibit the expression of TLR4 in IgAN.

Abstract
Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) is a medical condition due to compression of the median nerve as it travels through the wrist at the carpal tunnel. Few studies have been carried out to examine the effectiveness of mini-open technique for carpal tunnel release using minor wrist skin crease incision in patients with mild CTS. Therefore, the present study was designed to improve the neurophysiological parameters for the diagnosis of mild CTS, and to examine the effectiveness of small incision surgery for the clinical treatment of mild CTS. To this end, we applied the electrophysiological diagnosis of difference between median and ulnar palmar latencies (PMPU) and the difference of median and ulnar latencies from D4 stimulation (D4MD4U) in 80 patients with mild CTS, whom were diagnosed by hand surgeon at the First Hospital of Jilin University. Those patients showed normal in median nerve electrophysiological examination, and received minor wrist skin crease incision surgery. All patients were followed up and received electromyography (EMG) examination. We showed that D4MD4U and PMPU methods are sensitive diagnosis methods for mild CTS, and mini-open wrist crease incision is beneficial for the treatment of mild CTS in clinical settings.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Diagnostic and treatment delays increase the severity and transmission of pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB). This study aimed to evaluate TB diagnostic and treatment delays in acid-fast bacilli (AFB) smear-negative patients. METHODS This was a retrospective observational study. Patients with positive AFB culture of Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex (MTC) were selected from among hospitalised patients with a diagnosis of pneumonia. Admission ward, anti-tuberculosis treatment and the duration of AFB culture were compared between smear-positive and smear-negative patients. RESULTS Of the 70 patients with positive isolation of MTC in AFB culture, 27 (38.5%) were smear-negative; of these, 18 (66.7%) were not isolated while in hospital, and 17 (63%) were neither diagnosed nor treated for TB. In contrast, 41 of the 43 smear-positive patients (95.3%) were directly admitted or quickly transferred to the isolation room and started on anti-tuberculosis treatment (P < 0.001). Samples from smear-negative patients required more time to grow MTC in AFB culture than those of smear-positive patients (23 days vs. 14 days, P < 0.001). Diabetes was significantly associated with AFB smear positivity, with an odds ratio of 12.2. CONCLUSIONS Negative AFB smears caused significant diagnostic and treatment delay. Patients staying in the general ward were exposed to TB patients who were not diagnosed in time.

Abstract
Temporary strict emission control strategies were conducted to ensure good air quality for China's V-Day parade (August 20-September 3, 2015) in Beijing and nearby cities. The influence of the emission control on particle number size distribution (PNSD) was evaluated based on the long-term measurements of PNSD at a rural site (Shangdianzi) located northeast of Beijing. This study also presented the comparison results of PNSD during the parade in 2015 and the Olympics in 2008 (August 8-23), as well as the same period without strict emission control in 2010-2013 (August 20-September 3). Compared with the same period in 2010-2013 and 2008 Olympics, the accumulation mode particle number concentration showed a significant reduction in 2015, and the PM1 mass concentration decreased by approximately 60-90%. The alleviation of the PM1 was also associated with the weather conditions. The back trajectories analysis results showed that the southerly air mass passing through the polluted areas accounted for 14% of the total back trajectories in 2015, which contributed to approximately 60% in the other years. During the control period in 2015, there were six new particle formation (NPF) events observed, with a higher frequency, but a lower formation rate and growth rate than the same period in 2010-2013. The comparison of the condensation sink (CS), sulfuric acid, solar radiation and relative humidity among the different years indicated that at Shangdianzi station, the first factor in determining the NPF occurrence was the CS, and the second factor could be the concentration level of precursor vapors participating in the NPF event (e.g., sulfuric acid).

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To explore the attitudes of primary healthcare workers, including township public health workers (TPHWs) and village doctors (ViDs), towards web-based training on basic public health services (BPHS) and to examine the factors influencing their attitudes. STUDY DESIGN Cross-sectional study. METHODS Questionnaires addressing training status, needs, and attitudes towards web-based public health training were administered to 2768 primary healthcare workers from May to September 2013. Multivariate logistic regression models were used to identify the factors that were significantly associated with a positive attitude towards web-based public health training. RESULTS Among the 2768 participants, 90.6% of the TPHWs and 86.9% of the ViDs expressed a positive attitude towards web-based BPHS training. TPHWs who had a positive attitude towards previous public health training (odds ratio [OR] = 2.75, 95% confidence interval [CI] = 1.28-5.93) and better computer skills (OR = 2.59, 95% CI = 1.03-6.48) were more likely to adopt web-based training on BPHS, as were ViDs who had better computer skills (OR = 2.54, 95% CI = 1.58-4.11) and better Internet speeds (neutral: OR = 2.81, 95% CI = 1.58-5.01; satisfied: OR = 2.53, 95% CI = 1.28-5.01). TPHWs who tended to read papers (OR = 0.24, 95% CI = 0.11-0.50) and were aged 50 years or older (OR = 0.34, 95% CI = 0.14-0.87), as were ViDs who tended to read papers (OR = 0.48, 95% CI = 0.29-0.77), expressed a more negative attitude towards web-based BPHS training. CONCLUSIONS The findings indicated that most primary healthcare workers have a positive attitude towards web-based BPHS training. More priority measures, such as conducting computer training, improving Internet quality and integrating mobile technology, are recommended and will further improve the implementation of web-based public health training programs.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Apoptosis regulates embryogenesis, organ metamorphosis and tissue homeostasis. Mitochondrial signaling is an apoptotic pathway, in which Cyt-c and Apaf-1 are transformed into an apoptosome, which activates procaspase-9 and triggers apoptosis. This study evaluated Cyt-c, Apaf-1 and caspase-9 expression during renal development. METHODS Kidneys from embryonic (E) 16-, 18-, and 20-day-old fetuses and postnatal (P) 1-, 3-, 5-, 7-, 14-, and 21-day-old pups were obtained. Immunohistochemical analysis, dual-labeled immunofluorescence, terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase-mediated dUTP nick end-labeling (TUNEL) technique assay and Western blot were performed in addition to histological analysis. RESULTS Immunohistochemistry showed that Cyt-c was strongly expressed in proximal and distal tubules (DTs) at all time points. Caspase-9 and Apaf-1 were strongly expressed in proximal tubules (PTs) but only weakly expressed in DTs. Dual-labeled immunofluorescence showed that most tubules expressed both Cyt-c and Apaf-1, except for some tubules that only expressed Cyt-c. The TUNEL assay showed a greater percentage of apoptotic cells in PTs compared to DTs. Apaf-1 and cleaved caspase-9 protein expression gradually increased during the embryonic period and peaked during the early postnatal period but apparently declined from P7. Cyt-c protein expression was weak during the embryonic period but obviously increased after P1. CONCLUSION This study showed that PTs are more sensitive to apoptosis than DTs during rat renal development, even though both tubule segments contain a large number of mitochondria. Furthermore, Cyt-c-mediated mitochondrial apoptosis-related proteins play an important role in PTs during the early postnatal kidney development.

Abstract
The CD95-mediated apoptotic pathway is the best characterized of the death receptor-mediated apoptotic pathways. The present study characterized localization and expression of proteins involved in CD95-mediated apoptosis during rat renal development. Kidneys were obtained from embryonic (E) 18 and 20-day-old fetuses and postnatal (P) 1-, 3-, 5-, 7-, 14-, and 21-day-old pups. Immunohistochemical characterization revealed that CD95, FasL and cleaved caspase-3 were strongly expressed in proximal tubules and weakly expressed in distal tubules, but that expression of caspase-8 in distal tubules was stronger than that in proximal tubules. Results from terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase dUTP nick end labeling assays showed that levels of apoptosis in proximal tubules slowly increased after E18, while those of distal tubules slowly decreased after P5. Western blotting demonstrated that expression of CD95, FasL and FADD was very weak during embryonic development, but rapidly increased at P14. Expression of cleaved caspase-3 was maintained at high levels after P1, while caspase-8 expression gradually reached a peak at P7. Results from this study reveal that the CD95-mediated apoptotic pathway is a key driver of apoptosis in proximal tubules during late postnatal kidney development in rats and suggest that apoptosis in distal tubules is mediated by a different apoptotic pathway.

Abstract
The extracellular matrix (ECM) is the major macromolecule in skeletal muscle, which affects meat quality greatly. The remodeling of the ECM is mainly regulated by matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs). The expression patterns of MMP-1, -2, and -8 in longissimus dorsi muscle were explored using quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction. The results show that the expression of MMP-1, -2, and -8 decreased significantly from 135 days of pregnancy to postnatal 30 months. While the expression of MMP-1, -2, and -8 showed no significant relationships with intramuscular fat contents, MMP-1 and -2 showed significant negative correlations with the shearing force of the longissimus dorsi muscle in cattle. The expression of MMP-1 also showed a significant negative correlation with cooking loss and a positive correlation with water holding capacity. The expression levels of MMP-1 and -2 were usually higher in fat than in skeletal muscle tissue. The expression of MMP-8 was significantly higher in the mammary fat pad and the longissimus dorsi muscle than in all other tissues. This study indicates that the remodeling of the ECM has important effects both on the development of postnatal skeletal muscle and on meat quality.

Abstract
To investigate the expression of interleukin-24 (IL-24) in the children with acute leukemia (AL) and its effect on the apoptosis of bone marrow mononuclear cells (BMMNCs) in vitro. Four groups were assessed: acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL), acute myeloid leukemia (AML), non-leukemia, and healthy groups, 20 children in each group. ELISA was used to measure IL-24 serum level. The bone marrow was taken from patients and controls. BMMNCs were isolated and the DNA was analyzed by glucose electrophoresis. Flow cytometry was used to determine BMMNC apoptosis. The serum level of IL-24 in the ALL and AML groups were significantly higher than in the other two groups. There was no statistical difference between ALL and AML groups, either between non-leukemia and healthy groups. BMMNCs were exposed to IL-24 for 48 h, and the apoptotic rate of the group treated with 50 ng/ml IL-24 was obviously higher than that of control group (0 ng/mL). The serum IL-24 level of AL children decreased comparing to non-leukemia and healthy children, indicating that IL-24 can induce BMMNCs apoptosis of AL children in vitro.

Abstract
APC is a tumor suppressor gene that is involved in the processes of cell migration and adhesion, transcriptional activation, and apoptosis. The goal of this study was to evaluate the contribution of the APC rs383830 polymorphism to coronary heart disease (CHD) in Han Chinese. A total of 783 patients with CHD and 737 controls were tested in the current association study. Although our study did not identify an association between the APC rs383830 polymorphism and CHD, a breakdown analysis by gender indicated there was a significant contribution of the rs383830 T allele to the risk of CHD in males (P = 0.046, odds ratio = 1.267, 95% confidence interval = 1.004-1.598). In conclusion, our study suggested a male-specific association of the APC rs383830 polymorphism with CHD.

Abstract
We explored the associations of INSR and mTOR, 2 key genes in the insulin signaling pathway, and the susceptibility to type 2 diabetes mellitus and diabetic nephropathy. Three single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) (rs1799817, rs1051690, and rs2059806) in INSR and 3 SNPs (rs7211818, rs7212142, and rs9674559) in mTOR were genotyped using the Sequenom MassARRAY iPLEX platform in 89 type 2 diabetes patients without diabetic nephropathy, 134 type 2 diabetes patients with diabetic nephropathy, and 120 healthy control subjects. Statistical analysis based on unconditional logistic regression was carried out to determine the odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence interval (95%CI) for each SNP. Combination analyses between rs2059806 and rs7212142 were also performed using the X(2) test and logistic regression. Among these 6 SNPs, 4 (rs1799817, rs1051690, rs7211818, and rs9674559) showed no association with type 2 diabetes mellitus or diabetic nephropathy. However, rs2059806 in INSR was associated with both type 2 diabetes mellitus (P = 0.033) and type 2 diabetic nephropathy (P = 0.018). The rs7212142 polymorphism in mTOR was associated with type 2 diabetic nephropathy (P = 0.010, OR = 0.501, 95%CI = 0.288- 0.871), but showed no relationship with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Combination analysis revealed that rs2059806 and rs7212142 had a combined effect on susceptibility to type 2 diabetes mellitus and diabetic nephropathy. Our results suggest that both INSR and mTOR play a role in the predisposition of the Han Chinese population to type 2 diabetic nephropathy, but the genetic predisposition may show some differences.
